He climate pledge arena tomorrow not seeing suburb drop in dimes, Brianna Stewart nail in triples and blocking shots Without those Olympians and WNBA all stars outside our expectations are very low for the 2023 Seattle storm. Just don't tell that to the players. We have expectations for ourselves, but we're happy to go on to go on talked about for a while. That's not a problem for us. We feel like we'll be underdogs, and that's okay. And I think we probably will surprise people because like I said, there's just probably not a lot of expectation, but we'll have that expectation of ourselves, and that's really that's really what matters. "Has too many holes right now, at least in the back court. I'm a little. Oh, no, they definitely do. My thing is like, I look at those if we include LA in this, right? Kurt, Cheryl, James, and Noel. Out of those four, Noelle's the coach that I trust the least. But roster wise, like if someone came up to you and I was like, are you and Rachel? I want you to take over one of these four teams. Forget marketing place and all that. Jazz, just like roster wise, who you have now. Part of me wants to say, I'm going Seattle because you have jewel, you have, in my opinion, and underutilized if healthy can be a really effective center in Mercedes Russell, and then you have the potential aspect of esi, like as he's someone who's shown flashes, maybe I'm giving into the fan base a little bit too much, but I just feel like there's more youth upside than you look at LA who has neck on the down spin. You have Minnesota who has fee and no one else really. You have Chicago who has kah and Marina, but like Jules and Mercedes, I almost feel like is comparable if not better to any other three in on those teams. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. That's just my instinct, because my brain going again now. I like right. I'm kind of like getting warmed up to the season. I'm getting excited, talking about this sort of stuff. Like I said, I mean, you're catching me right at just like the rest of us that the beginning of all of this and what we're trying to go through each of these teams with a fine tooth comb. There's so much we don't know. We were going to have a conversation here. What do we have the first preseason games on May 5th? Something like that. Right? So what like two weeks away? Let's see if they show them this. And then we will cue the outcry for not showing them on air. Again, it's like it's every year. It's the cycle. You can predict what the complaints are going to be. "Around. That's South Carolina, developed the offensive game. And even better. But I think our defense is going to be absolutely problem in WNBA and her length. All right, let's keep it rolling here because we obviously win bags. We talk a lot. Let's talk about who we think is going to be rookie of the year. Actually. Well, so you want to give the hard answer to the easy answer. You go first. Okay. I totally a blossom. She's just going to she's going to have the most opportunity. She's going to have the biggest name recognition and I think she can be in a situation where she's going to be relied upon the most. I could see her struggling offensively in her rookie year, but honestly, I think she's going to be able to grab rebounds and play such good defense that. If people really pay attention to her, I'm guessing she's going to have the best or most productive rookie season just because of all the opportunities she's going to get. Okay, I'm going to also be annoying. And drop an MBA reference. Okay. The micro Carter Williams rookie of the year award. Great stats, awful team. Jordan horses in Seattle. Yeah. She's going to play. She's going to play. And she's going to have a lot of opportunities to do things. Who else do they have scoring? Well, Gabby Williams isn't coming back. Super excited coming back. Yeah, I got their starting 5 as Kia nurse Julio Sammy whitcomb as he magor Mercedes Russell and then their bench is no offense to any of these players kind of a mess. It's just not there's players that haven't been in the league for a little bit, maybe J Melbourne comes over, but I'm with you. Especially because I don't think say I was going to be that bad. Yeah. I think they're going to be a lottery team. I think they're going to challenge for the do they make the plans? You're asking me, you're asking me questions in April buddy. My bad. I don't think so though. Initial check, I don't think they make the playoffs. I think they're probably the last team out. Well, but say they start off bad. If I'm a team, I'm worried about developing my young talent, right? If the writing's on the wall, we're not making the playoffs. Let's get Jordan horse it's a reps. Do I think she can average 12 and 12 and 5? I don't think so, but I don't see any of these. I could see her doing that. I don't know that. It's hard to see any of these rookies stepping into a role like some of the rookies we've had in the recent years. Like probably highest usage percentage of our rookie we've seen since Candace Parker or something, you know? Like she was shooting more shots than anybody on her team. And that doesn't normally happen in what year we in 2023. That was 9 hours. It was awesome. Yeah. Ryan and Shakira had yeah, oh my God. I'd legendary right here. And Melissa had a good year too. It just got lost in the shuffle with those two. So it's hard, I guess it's hard to compare them to other years, but yeah, I mean, I think Boston is a safe pick. You're right. No, but I like questions too, because you're like, you know, she is going to get opportunity there. They don't have that sort of athletic that athlete and my most positions. I mean, Joel Lloyd obviously is there, but she and also I really love the idea of horse and learning from Lloyd. With all her athleticism, she just needs some more of a move set more of a way to get to her spots and obviously more shooting. I think those three things are something that Juul got better pull up Queen. My God. And that's what and that's who she needs to learn from. So I think has a shot at rookie of the year as well. I definitely, I Boston the top. I could see secrets doing it, hey, man. Why don't we give some Hailey Jones? Haley Jones. Haley Jones. I mean, really? I mean, could step into the starting lineup? She averages what ten boards last year? 7 assists? No, it may be two I 5. She's not going to have two giants in the paint. Yeah. I want to see that once you get translated. I mean, just by the person I'm most intrigued by. So yeah, I can see it. I can see it, but Boston's a safe play. I mean, I'm a betting man. And if I were to bet, I mean, if I were to set odds, she would be the Osmo favorite, for sure. Yeah, Boston. And she's gonna, man. I'm excited to see boss. And we decided to be boss. But it's just like a flare we know so much about. But yeah, I think Jones up there up there. Hopefully, and I'm sure there's going to be someone that comes in from left field as well. Speaking of left field, steal of the draft. Let's dive a little deeper. I would say, so preliminarily, I would say Jordan horston is a seal of draft. I had her at the fourth pick. She drops down to 9. I'll do a great job of snagging that talent and that potential. But we kind of want to dig a little deeper here. So who is your steal of the draft or do you want me to go first? Yeah, should we keep it out around? Let's keep it out of round one. And granted, we know that not every player is going to make a roster. But let's say in a perfect world they do. It's a spatula. And they play later, but yeah, so yeah, let's keep it round too. You know, this is completely vibes. And I think I'm changing my pick from what I discussed with you earlier. And what I said last night, sure. These are vibes. This is probably like if we had a dog of the year. So I've got that dog in her. Absolutely. She caught me off guard yesterday. She called me out for asking how I knew she would be okay on the top of the Empire State Building. Alexis Morris, if she can make that roster, like, I know,

"What at most 75% of the games. Yeah. I mean, that would be like a good year, I would think. Yeah. I don't care what anyone says. Brittany griner on the floor, the way she was playing before everything went down before last season was MVP caliber. I would imagine my gut is that she won't skip a beat in that area, but you're exactly right. What happens with Skyler digging Smith? I mean, if she's playing, and this team can figure it out from a chemistry perspective, but with their coach, I like the addition of Michaela, I like the addition of Mariah Jefferson. I think that you've got Sophie Cunningham, you're able to retain, like there's some sauce to this roster. I think it's got a lot of potential that looks a lot different. Without Skylar digging Smith playing, I have no idea when we will find that out. I feel like I feel like if I had to guess and I don't know anything, it's hard for me to envision her playing this year on this team with just how bad it got last year. And with the pregnancy and stuff like that, he just kind of wondered, does she sit the season out? But again, I would be pleasantly surprised if she does play in this team can somehow find a way to figure it out with their coach and things work. Because if they can, I mean, it's actually an interesting roster. I don't even hate the fact that diamond to shields left. I thought that was a little bit of an odd fit from the start. I like it. I like it, but like you said, the pass fail thing is a good way to analyze this because it's kind of like there's still a lot that's unknown. Now our last team Seattle last time I gave him a D look. Yeah, Kia nurse. Sammy wick comes back. You bring back as the Yvonne Turner, three supplies on. J Melbourne. I mean, Mercedes Russell, huge number Mercedes Russell. What's your status? I think I saw a report that she is a 100% to go. This team, maybe like, yeah, no, I think I stay with my D, they similarly have stacked it with a lot of similar players, a similar style, similar positional players. I don't know who their main ball handler is. Who's your point guard? Ivan Turner, maybe? You had all this time to figure out what the post super suburban era would look like. And was sitting here today on March 15th, and we don't know who you're starting point guards going to be. Heck, put jewel at starting. Just let jewel play everything. It's just, it's just. Seattle was lucky for so long, you know, to be in that era of suburban Stewart, amazing, amazing, amazing, but man, this is going to be some rough roads. Question. And this is a very leading question. Is it a disappointment for Seattle to come out of the suburb Lauren Jackson slash Briana Stewart era, right? And only have what they got four rings. I guess four is enough. But I guess the no. Now that I think when I add LJ into it, fine. But when you look at it with stewie, I don't know, it's a little bit. You look at here, it wasn't there a year there where it was like, they were going to be really, really good. It was hurt. That could have been a potential ring winning system. Oh, it wasn't my mind. It was a clear winning. How many did she end up playing there? I think it was what? Actually playing on the court was it for? I don't know if top of my head. No, definitely more than that. One second. One second, let me just I just go back to thinking about the year with the Achilles injury and she was the ambassador to the league. Oh, that was the stupidest thing ever. That was 2019. So 20. 16 was her first season 1718, misses 19 and 2021 and 22. I mean, look, I look at it and I go, okay, obviously not. But most definitely the 2016 2017 seasons were disappointing. She was young, the coaching wasn't there. It was I'd have to really, it's amazing how fast time goes. It felt like maybe like 5 years, but it was actually much more than that. Yeah, I mean, I don't think you sit there and think, man, disappointing we should have had more rings. I do think that that 2019 year would have been that was supposed to be like stack stack stack Seattle storm in their prime years. So that could have been another potential ring. I guess of course we'll never know. Could always play. You can always play the code of what is showed up, but I mean, yeah, I mean, clearly blessed with a lot of just legendary talent. And now it's just, you're sitting back and you're like, of course, there's going to be just a feeling of like, man, like what does this look like from here? I still think there's reason. We don't need to get into it. I know we were going to say, there's still a question as to whether should they have cords, do we a year ago as opposed to coring? Would you Lloyd? Thank you. I think that's a debate which I still can't find fairly interesting, but I mean, what's done is done. And at this point, I don't know, to be determined. It's not looking great. You've got to find a way to find someone who can bring the ball down the floor and handle pressure. That's all I know right now. Well, that's all the teams. I'll just drop a little tidbit breaking news because why the heck not? Heard from multiple sources, new jerseys are on the way. Oddly, what I'm hearing is it's not going to be every team. It's getting it this year. But some teams will have to wait till next year. We'll see if that holds true. To me, that seems odd to me, but okay. I mean, it's the W so they would do that. But look, I'm all for anything that gets more merchandise, more jerseys, as long as we can actually buy the jerseys this time. Right. So excited to keep your eyes peeled for that one. "Really hard to count out just because of everything that they've accomplished and the way they look in the top pressure situations. Yeah so i actually. I came into the season like much less optimistic about their defense. Just because i mean you lose like in my opinion. The player who should won defensive player of the year last year can't disrespect scott but like you listen to tasha howard to end like on the offensive end. Herb not necessarily to discount. Sammy wickham defensively. But she hasn't like some size that like if you have enough to clean up on the back there then like you can make up for and like you see her like the loss of her impacting. The offense more than that guns obviously but like. I didn't trust their defense to be able to do the things that they have shown they can do this year. So like the defense is a surprise to me. I thought they were going to be a team. That was going to shift over and load up their offense and just go. Hey we're going to get into these shootouts in and like turn everything detract. Me and like yeah. That is the way they win a lot of their games but like the defense is more stout than i ever expected coming into this season. So like whatever like if that counts for anything at all i mean. It doesn't But subaru pointed. This out in her commissioner's cup speech. Is that like Or no sorry. It was the the bubble speech Last year after they won the championship. She pointed out that when she is healthy. Like they either are out in the first round or they win at all So so we'll see how that shakes out but like you just have so much trust in in not just stir but like sue has won everything there is to win and jewell loyd has proven the lake. She has shift ability in her You know in in her ability on offense and defensively shocked. She is relentless as well. So like sue is is a weak link defensively relative to like the roster but like jewel stuey are like true superstars on both ends in that way and like you know basketball is very much a strongly game like if you tell me brand. Stewart is feeling good that night. I'm going to tell you that the storm win one hundred times out of one hundred and that's just like that's just how it goes for the rest of the roster. It's like the run Sabina talk talk about this a little bit Quite a bit is when if katie lewis putting it together then that solves that fifth starter problem or not even started like that fifth player because like mercedes russell has proven that like.

"Yeah exactly. I mean i guess the last thing we can talk about two before we dive into more talking about so match up with the aces. How would you feel about that. Because that that was in terms of looking more teams that have obviously i mean top talent with with asia and wiz but also looking at just having an interior presence. Which is something that the team can struggle with. That would be a tough match. Well again you're not as worried about. You know the shooting or getting spaced on what was happening criminal but curse you bill and beer. But i mean how would you feel about a match up with the aces rule. Lsu one question. i had did. Have you seen alaskan. They play think it was at the end of joop. I have not. But i will watch today. What do you what would you would you expect to happen. When they play while my expectation would be trying to i mean. They'll they'll get the ball into the post as much as possible just to force rotations forced the defense collapse a little bit but then again if they're not kicking the ball around as much like taking nine threes last night is just wild to me. I don't understand it But that would be my expectation. I'm assuming i was probably wrong in that. What happened was that mostly mercedes russell as he did did great job at it was most of our cities. Russell held asian liz to maybe twelve points combined twenty five percent shooting awhile and the as guards combined for like forty something once. They're starting to regards. Mind for like forty seven points. Add to that not. It was not a good match for the storms backwards. Presently despite the success court do do.

"But i think a lot of it comes down to. She's matched up at mercedes russell for most of the night and and cities is six foot. Six she is increasing long even for her height but she's awesome dot the strongest player in the league and she still working on getting her like technical ability in terms of her of her shoulders and our arms hands when she is in just pure stops she still working on refining that. So you get as the i. I believe it was the second game in new york. Natasha howard who is shorts racer who is short for center but still very strong. She goes like four for nineteen she back down. State is a lot on supposed Can't finish because of russell's length but sylvia fowles is. I think easily the best like most technical post player in the league. And so you get someone who ashby almost as long as russell. So she can't bother her with length the same way she can with howard. I think that's not a problem. You're gonna see with a lot of mashups but certainly one. That's going to be a difficult adjustment if they see them the playoffs. Yeah no i. That's such a great point. And i think even punctuating to how did you feel about the perimeter defense last night because to me. That was where i saw a lot of issues. Like obviously mercedes really struggled handling soviet one on one but also the i mean the links did a great job of getting penetration getting the ball into sylvia because of what they were doing on the perimeter and i thought that's spoke a lot to to how i mean a lot of the questions that have about seattle before that we're gonna talk about later on but Yeah the perimeter was. It was a little bit of a struggle last night. Yeah i mean also positive. Clarendon clarendon shot like three and eleven and almost all of that was against Sumberg is not exactly the person you'd expect to hold a physical downhill guard to three and eleven. And i mean look at the game. She was contesting most of their shots so fast. Good as far as the negative. I mean kalmyk brightest sort of overmatched for jewell loyd and she's not and can you lose elson is not the kind of person who's going to contain isolation on pick and rolls someone that kayla mcbride so we so you're running into problems there and i think i think that's what that starts i think crystal dangerfield is to quit for first to cover Yeah and then..

Martha Lake Area towards south Effort where the early estimate has the power back on around 5 30 or after 5 30. We'll keep an eye on this and let you know when we have updates. Billionaire Richard Branson landed safely back on Earth after a successful flight aboard a Virgin Galactic spacecraft yesterday. Everything I've dreamt about since I was a kid. Came through and more today and and and Baby spice. And he'd be Jeff Bastos. Blue Origin launch by more than a week, reporting on this in the Washington Post Christian Davenport, who joins Taylor van sites on the KOMO news line, so near enough to two decades of work went into this trip and Virgin Galactic as we've talked about before seen some tragedy along the road, did everything go according to plan over the weekend. Yeah, it seemed to go flawlessly. And you know, Richard Branson finally fulfilled this dream of going to the edge of space. He did it with a full cabin. There were three other crew mates with him all Virgin Galactic. Employees who were flying along on a test flight to sort of get a sense of what the experience would be for paying customers. You know, ultimately later this year early next, they want to open up their space tourism business. And there were two pilots on board as well. So a total of six people made it to space and this was, you know a big deal. For the company. And for Richard Branson himself who founded Virgin Galactic Way back in 2000 and four hoping initially to start flying people by 2000 and seven. Obviously, that didn't happen. It took a lot longer than they anticipated. As you mentioned they did have some setbacks. Along the way. There was a fatal accident in 2014 where the space plane came apart mid flight and it killed one of the pilots and injured the other pilot who had the parachute down. But they you know, um, went back. Made some modifications to the spacecraft stayed at it, and here we are. Now they're on the cusp of flying pain customers and you got to go to this launch in New Mexico at Spaceport America. Tell me a little bit about this place because once paying passengers are accepted by Virgin Galactic, I understand there's a pretty significant infrastructure. Built up around space tourism. Yeah, but Virgin Galactic facility in New Mexico. It's outside of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Um In the in the desert there and these beautiful mountains surrounded and spaceport America itself as this taxpayer funded facility that cost $220 million, and it really does sort of fit into the landscape of New Mexico there and the sort of modern Miracle almost kind of looks like a mirage when you get out there, and that's where Virgin Galactic will do its astronaut training. Getting the pan customers ready to fly where they keep of the spacecraft. Remember, this is not a rocket that launches vertically. That's what blue origin will use for the capsule on top. This is a space plane that is tethered to the belly of a mothership, a twin fuselage airplane that brings it up to about 45,000 ft or so and then releases the space plane and the pilot. It's the engines and turned and they go as fast as Mach three, going almost straight up, and then they come back down and land that Spaceport America and they're in space for about 3 to 4 minutes, and they get some weightlessness around them. Certainly an exciting time. I think to be covering the space industry as if it's not an interesting topic as it is Christian Davenport with US on common news, who covers the space industry for the Washington Post, and Christian will keep an eye out for your coverage of the blue origin launch in about eight days or so, Yeah, maybe I'll talk to you next week. I hope so. Christian Davenport on common. It was with us. And that's Cuomo's Taylor Vance Ice. Common news time is 3 40. I think we've got a sports report in there somewhere. Oh, no, We've got Bill Sports Life. Got the real deal. EJ. Yes, you do. Let's talk some storm basketball. Seattle learned the weekend split against the Phoenix Mercury. They're in first place in the W N b A with the 16 and five record, And now we've got the Olympics an all Star break.
