"Changed my Mind Podcast with Nick Friar and Wesley sites to talk with the creators and show runners of X men. The animated series Eric and Julia Lee Wong. Explain. The animated series ran from 1992 until 1997 and was one of my favorite shows growing up and now l a cord to re watching it again with my son. So here's Nick Fried. We're talking about the art in making animated series and ex Mendy and made it shares were talking to Eric and Julia Lee world He's showrunner and writer. I mean the masterminds behind this timeless show that living Eric Julie. This was when I got Disney. Plus when it came out the first thing I went back and watched the game. It's hands up Truth. Then I will tell you I got kicked off Twitter for 24 hours because when X men debuted on Disney plus in England because it was such a big hit over here, I was so frantically saying is people are saying I love expert. I'll abasement. Disney. Plus, I kept Retweeting it so quickly. They thought it was about the nice thing is it really seems to have found an audience again. You know, it's it's been something people have been very excited for. Of course, I mean, this is types that absolutely timeless. Yeah. I mean, I can't can't remember how many Saturday mornings I spent up watching, you know, expand the animated Siri's Bobby's world. You're having a nice bowl of cinnamon toast crunch in the morning I That's I think a great way to kind of start off Most kids weekends there, so I think for every you know, 89 10 year old or so kind of in that range, this was A hallmark again to use that term and then somebody kid's childhood, so I definitely living out a childhood dream here, I would say. On. That's so kind. Thank you so much, And I just had a son about three months ago, and I am so excited to show this to him as well. So that makes us even happier to hear that is really cool at the cons, and you get to get a 40 year old guy come up with the Dragon. The eight year old chip on They just said we have. We just watched the whole thing together, just going from one generation to the next one and makes me remember stuff. I watch with my dad when I was a kid and just have great that experiences when you can share the excitement about something, and now you guys had another book that you published a few years ago in this was, I believe was previously on X Men Colon in the making of an animated series correct. We're grabbing that copyright different difference. There was way started this fight this one about five years ago. That's previously on ice original artwork by will many who did the show the cover of it. And at the time I know this sounds weird, but Marble, and everybody had just forgotten about the show that the rights were split between Marvel and Fox and maybe a couple other places and they just didn't want She talked to return our phone calls. So we got what had interviewed everybody that worked on the show and did this book anyway with a really tiny publisher. And without marvels, Blessing and no color were committed. Illustration lives in illustrations, but it's a really dense for 150 page 200,000 word. History of the whole thing from my point of view, and so it was very satisfying. What kind of got us away to go to commune testable? As soon as it came out in the fall of 17. We would get Khan requests that it would be something to focus on something for us to sign his. We're not artists were not voiceover. And so that was those who start and then Couple years ago. Once Marvel and Fox, we're getting back together, and we're hoping to be able to see the show again. Because show wasn't even on the air anywhere. We got an email from a major guy at Marvel. Oh, damn. They're coming after us fruit for doing the book without their permission. Yeah, and overstepping our bounds of some of the Gray area stuff that we used in the book. And he said, no, no, no, no, We just We read it and all the staff loved it here, and they said that the rights together The first thing on our list to do you know what's the first thing to do is what's what's doing a book on Expand the animated Siri's as an art book and do it was a big publisher that's used to doing art books. And so it was his idea. Larson Larson, great guy who happened to have his first job 25 serious job working for Marvel at the time that we were doing the show. So now you know, 27 years later, he gets the opportunity to go to his bosses and say, Not the best thing. We know that there was a book on this show that I loved back when I was there. So that's it. He started it, and we ran with it on DH. But that's so the first book got us the second book, We're joined by Eric and Julia Lee Wol, the creators and show runners of X Men. The animated Siri's speaking of previously on That's something that led off so many expand episodes. And the fact that you gave Children so much faith that they would be able to follow these two part three part four parts stories is something that I don't think any other animated show would D'oh. That was a big deal and and and a big I'm not going to say bone of contention because credit to the president of Fox kids..

Slack stock surges at debut, values company at more than $25 billion

"Well slack technologies, of course, making its debut as a publicly held company, and that was at the new York Stock Exchange stock. We heard from Charlie up about forty eight percent here in its first day of trading or Emily Chang, on Bloomberg television, cut up with the CEO of slack, Stewart Butterfield. And they talked about the business, bringing in more cash than me, put out on a non going basis is a priority because it allows us to control their own destiny. The ideal for us, though is that we continually find new ways the new opportunities to invest to further the business that we don't need a lot of free cash flow. But just a little bit. All right. Well investors seem pretty excited about what they heard from slack. Let's understand what they're seeing in this business a little bit about how they got to market, as they say, Mendy, sing senior tech industry analysts for Bloomberg intelligence. He's back in our Bloomberg interactive brokers studio. Mandy, you're our expert on these things. What did we see today once slack was really out in the public a one thing is fairly obvious that there is a lot of investor in two zero around, you know, cloud subscription businesses, especially on that deprives side, because the revenue stream is so predictable these in case oh slack. It's growing top line at over fifty percent. So there is demand for P. I think the concern for single product companies, you know, on the cloud is how sustainable that top line growth is. And you know once you hit a billion dollars. I think you're going to see growth taper down. So, but investors aren't focus. Passing on

"And then it has dried fruits, it's one big Imendia. I couldn't come up with. It's a French is it's a pallet really of chocolate with fruits. We have some some bars from that company and is a French company Dakota Mendy answer are. That's yeah. And we have them embar form as well. Stat right? Green in. There is just one of those lovely favorite things. French chocolate. Always seems a little bit better to why is that? Twat? Aw. That means nothing. So okay. So if you wanna come and there's little bars, and there's a lot of little things. But I mean, and let's be clear. This is not just for Valentine's eight this shop is that you can come and get this chocolate for birthdays or anything else. You know, what I mean like about the gallon Thein scale in Tignes, create one. Yes. For your gal pals that maybe you need a little pick me up. Yeah. I think so I think everybody deserves a little bit. I mean, even the hot chocolate mix them or is it Marie bell rebel. Yeah. By the way, that is if you haven't had that hot chocolate mix that stuff with it's a little spicy as tech hot chocolate. My favorite is Mexican hot chocolate when it's a little bit boosted by peppers, right? That stuff is great because it's not it's not cocoa powder. It's chocolate. It's shaved chocolate. So it's so what else? Thicke drinking before it's good on a nice day night. Like, yes. It is we're going to be here until eleven isn't it? Day for national. No, I think it's national pizza day. Actually, it is which yeah, we're going to be here until eleven and then harmony and Allie will be here from eleven to one. So we'll crossover and hand the reins over to them. But all day, you can come in and register for the view chocolates. And check out the jewelry get some there's a lot of cards here too. I have to get a few Valentine's Day cards, those you can pop those in the mail, and let's see first class mail two to four days. So you still have plenty of time. I used to work in the mail business, and you talking to my gosh, I would not remember that. What is in terms of jewelry are there like kinda styles of things that we're seeing right now that are trendy you know, I actually just got back from New York from market on Tuesday. Did a lot of shopping looked at a lot of things. And I would tell you that right now. It's a lot of a lot. So so it's layering. Yeah. It's larynx bracelets. It's layering of necklaces. It stacking of rings. It's just pilot on that. Yeah. And it's it's it's good. I mean people buy jewelry, especially when women by jewelry for themselves. They're buying things that have meaning to them. It. Just strikes strikes them at the right moment. Yeah. Just wanna wear it. You know, and that idea. Yeah. And so true to me. So it's like, okay. Well, again, another bracelet, and I can wear it with the other ones. Right. Yeah. So there was a lot of there was a lot of everything in the market. Really? There is a lot of little stuff that can be layered easily. There was a lot of bigger gemstone pieces that are really sort of standout pieces rose gold has been over the last several years like every year, it's a little bit more coming back stronger, stronger stronger. Yeah. I would tell you that rose gold right now is as prevalent and prominent as white and yellow is wow. Surprising. And it's not going anywhere. You don't think it is? I think it's here to stay. I think it's sort of like sea salt on chocolate. Yeah. It's not a trend anymore. No thing. It's a better thing. And I think rose gold is the same way. Okay, and platinum or are you still seeing that we are? You know, platinum people used to think that platinum was just outrageously expensive. But with the price of gold taking a huge rise over the last several years platinum has become. Sort of right there. In some cases. Yeah. So there's a lot of platinum as well. Diamonds diamonds diamonds in millennials were killing diamonds. Sprinkles of diamonds, big stones gemstones, surrounded by diamonds. So diamonds gemstones. I will post. I did buy something this morning that reminded me of my mom. I saw it online. When I knew I was coming here. And I got the permission. I'll grandma. Graham and a little bit. It's real cute reminds me of my mom. That's good. Yeah. That's a good. That's a good. Love jewelry, personal jewelry is very personal. I there's never a time. When someone gives you jewelry that you don't like it that is not true. Really? Have you didn't like it? Yeah. But I'm not going to talk about that is not true. You know, it's not if they don't if it's not really geared toward you. But then you can say this isn't really my style. Look for something else. Yes. You can't you can't. And a good relationship. "And hold on tight as I beam your ears all the way to San Francisco, so we can speak weighed Suheil Sony, co-founder Ennio. So massive world. Welcome to the show K tell the listeners about who you are. And what you do. Absolutely. Thank you so much for having me on this show. Well, let me let me talk on the personal friend, and then I can tell you about what I do. I I live in the US I immigrated here from India, and I'm being here for on twenty is and I reside with my wife, and so can Vati and then on what I do. I'm the co founder of Allio, which is a high growth startup in recruiting technology. And now, we are I think now enough full otehr prior to this. I had a job in management consulting with McKinsey and company before that I had another startup which was also you quickly fun. And prior to that I got my PHD in engineering, which is what brought me to the US in the first place. Fantastic. Now, full no research on you guys. I quickly discovered. The Elliott is an end to end aaagh recruiter that makes your recruiting delightful. Deficient with intelligent, automated and conversational engagement fear. Texting? So I've got to ask what is the role of artificial intelligence, and what advantages does it help you offer the recruiting solutions outlined you've done. Good research. I think that's a fantastic summary. In fact, I think it took us it took us several months summaries. Thanks for doing that Tago research. I think I think two roles to do advantages. So for for a one is it makes it more conversational and second of the feedback in the morning writes, a traditional software has offered primarily just automation. And what we're doing now is with the use of AI, which includes your NLP and machine learning the NFL peop- are allows for making the same automation more engaging conversation. So it ends up being one Mendy ace in Kronos conversation like you would have with the human. As opposed to going through a software form and filling that up in a dedicated session. That's the first part of it. And then the second part of it has again trying to mimic the human brain. But far from that at current state is the learning aspect of it, which is using a and this time machine learning is how can you use the memory and the right management mathematical statistics to make sure it learns about the system in imbibing the knowledge just like humans do as they become more expedience and using that to make smarter decisions going forward. And so it's those two aspects that make it may unique make way at vantage is- over tradition systems, and for my understanding the technology behind you Elliott, utilizes deep flow conversational AI to handle those complex and persistent multi-step workflows which can be incredibly cumbersome to if we do have any recruiters listening. Can you just talk me through exactly how? It works and how the algorithms can actually predict candidate quality based on that interaction with the system. Absolutely. And I think this is this is the best part. Of addition give you the full picture on how it comes in practice. So first and foremost, Leo would go and read all the job Rex to these your job post on the cardio website. And it tries to understand what's the job title. What's the location, and what are the basic requirements from the job for the job? Both from the job bracket anything in the app to contracting system, ending internal systems with that knowledge. That's now being imparted into Allio. It starts talking with applicants to understand what kind of jobs, do they want and show them relevant jobs and add as a third step. It begins to screen those applicants for the job that they chosen based on the basic requirements that Allio has learned has a footstep then goes forward and for those who have qualified. Based on those basic requirements. How you would go ahead and even schedule interviews with the hiding team members Beatrice crew has be hiding managers and for those who do not qualify route time to other jobs or respectfully ask them to check back later. And then once those interviews a done deal continues based on the shooting process that that organization follows which could include extending offers doing background checks checking in with new hires to make sure they happy or find any areas of discontent. And in this way, Neil at basically going all the way from first learning order, the different job Rex northern requirements due to having deep conversations, which are very complicated and dynamic all the way from presenting relevant jobs, do screening them extending authors addio is able to offer this end to end automated recruiting the Truter that is able to provide these. The players just kept through paper over and over again, a game of nullifying David. Certainly, if you think back to the fixtures between these teams losses, when when calls from stroke, especially this time it was the speed of each team that just nullified each other. You just you just felt that again and again, and again, when you say that about Las sees the five nail, Manny being. "Direct forms of aggression, like physical aggression, and verbal aggression in these kinds of things women definitely much less likely to do those things, but it's not to say that women aren't competitive or aggressive with each other either they tend to do things a little bit more differently. So rather than relying on things like physical aggression, indirect aggression, they'll use more indirect forms of aggression, like exclusion and gossiping and these kinds of things, but the research is a little bit mixed on this point about whether or not women do these things more than men. So there have been some studies that find that women and girls are more likely to engage in those behaviors. But then there's also research to suggest the opposite. So there's a bit of a myth that women are more bitchy in that way. I think I don't think the recession necessarily support's particular inclusions. So despite what society tells us, and what you might think women aren't necessarily be Chea than men. Just to make sure we asked three different psychologists what they thought about the way men and women treat each other. They agreed that men and women are both predisposed to bitchiness and something interesting came up women often bond through communication men tend to bond over activities. So there's nothing you now to unite which says, we're actually Chea we just talk more beaches. The social psychologist says the idea of bitchiness is completely overblown. I think ultimately comes down to double standards. We hold women goals too much higher standard than we do to minimize. So we just expect to be these little saints, and I never do anything aggressive. So when they do something even slightly aggressive and just put a tonal out of line. I think we judge for it. You know, even. Girls and women tend to be quite sensitive to social exclusion rejection. And also to just fantas so we all cells tend to just whole each other to a higher standard. So, you know, if you sort of step back, you'll say that actually women goals and anywhere near as bitchy as we perceive them to be in a lot of that is just good old double standards, pardon me can feel people listening to these podcasts shaking their heads going. No way. No group of men has ever frozen out a man for doing the wrong thing or saying the wrong thing or being a general decayed, whereas a group of women will totally phrase out. And I select one woman for some sort of transgression shortly in your real life. You've experienced witness. Well, I mean, I haven't seen the difference. I mean, I've seen Mendy absolutely horrible to each other. And sure I've seen women be horrible to each other as well with women. It will just be. Yes. Like, you say they freeze them out. They won't talk to them among men. They'll just bash each other. I mean, isn't that west? I don't know if it's worse. But at least it's out in the open, can we get back to these idea of a double standard, the kicker is it's not just men who reinforced the double standard. It comes from women to as much as it pains me to say while the research says women aren't necessarily Beechy than men we got that. There is growing evidence to suggest that women a legitimately biased against each other. I don't know where it comes from. Let's call this next person..
