"Hand. Three main fingers on your right hand. Place them on your right and left Temple. And rub either way, clockwise or counterclockwise. Kind of ease your brain because it's about to get confusing. Yeah, kind of Spurs Rockets today. Well, 20 game day warm up on W. Away, I would crystal Simon didn't say. Quit rubbing your head, 12 30. Bill Schoening takes over the pregame and his Spurs rockets at one o'clock. D dub Derrick White for the Spurs game time decision. For the Rockets. Eric Gordon out ankle injury. James Harden, resting, not playing. That's the word now resting. You can change your mind. But here's the thing. The Rockets are currently in the four position. Taken get to three. If they went out, and then we're loses out. They could drop toe five. If Oklahoma City wins both of their games in Houston, loses one of their too. If Houston moves to three In the playoffs. Come along. They're gonna play the Jazz if they stay at four. They could possibly play the jazz. Yeah, if they moved that I mentioned three. Yes, OK, it's still likely that they would play in a nut shell. For the most part, Anything can still happen, but it would have to be really weird. They're going to end up playing the Jazz in the first round of the playoffs. And it's not like you're worried about home court advantage. You might play for that in a regular scenario where you would say I'm going to play the same team, but I mean, they're going to play him with home court advantage or not. Well, they're all in the bubble. They're all in the same place. It's not gonna matter. So For all intents and purposes. Houston's got nothing to win. That's got nothing to lose. That's why they're going to rest Harden. As it stands right now. Now the Spurs are not in a must win situation. But it's a pretty big game. Phoenix yesterday won their sixth in a row, beating Oklahoma City. Dallas knocked off Utah. The Sun's today have the Sixers Without being Simmons and play Dallas on Thursday. Portland today has Dallas And place Brooklyn on Thursday. Memphis, who was still in the eighth spot. Has Boston today. Milwaukee on Thursday. Memphis in the eighth spot. Portland in the nine seed, 1/2 game back. Phoenix in the Spurs are tied one game back tied for the 10th seed. What percentage Wise winning percentage tiebreaker goes to Phoenix. So I need some losses by the sun's. Yeah, but they're not going to lose because no joy ll Noah indeed know Simmons or Richardson's Anything can happen. We can always cross their fingers. I'll be interested. We're going to know it all full light up after the end of tonight. Or in my case by tomorrow morning. Yeah, way away at the end of tonight and once again If it's impossible not to at this point. If the nine seed whoever that isthe it could be Memphis, Portland, Phoenix Spurs could end up at eight. Memphis could drop to nine. Any of those four teams could end up in eight or nine. And the nine C because we're guaranteed now a play in right? Matchup in which the eight seed on Lee has to beat the nine seed one time the nine seed would have to beat the eight seed. Two times. You remove your fingers from rubbing your temples now you should be good to go. Good morning. It's charity. McCurdy bugs are on the move this time of year and you've got two choices. When dealing with the issue. You could buy something at the grocery store and spray away. Good luck with that approach or call a professional a professional. Definitely the way to go. You got kids. You got pets around the house. You're going to want to make sure you're comfortable with the products being used. You want to be able to talk to an expert Well, Bobby Jenkins and ABC are those experts. They are my pest control company. Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, discusses new book "The Lie That Binds"

"I'm Jim Taylor skinner, and this is the electorate on this episode, have a conversation with the hogue, the president of Nero Pro, choice America, and he joins me to discuss her new book. The lie that binds it's really an incredible book and it chronicles how abortion rights of all from being a non-partisan backburner issue to a central 'cause champion by conservatives in the radical, right. This is really one of those books that I have to read twice. It's that informative. So without further ADO, here's my conversation with Elise. Hogue. leasehold welcome to the cast. Thank you so much. You're. So before we jump into your book, I want us to talk about something because I recently learned that you were from Texas and that really my inches because I'm also from the South I'm from Memphis Tennessee, and I was reading one of your interviews where you'd said that you wanted to leave Texas because Uber afraid that you'd be bored and that was something like totally relate to. Manila it was sort of. Knew that there was a being rolled out there and I wanted to. It be challenged in You don't both my own horizons, but also different people different people think and act and. I am so privileged grateful to have been able to do that. You know I have to admit, and you may relate to this as being from a have A. Of defensiveness when it comes to people bashing Texas, they're such amazing people. They're they're such amazing within their and during such good work, and you can't judge inspired leaders. You have to judge us by Jordan Molly ivins in grammar yards and Janice Joplin for goodness. Sake. Now. There's just and that's true everywhere where there's adversity, there are amazing women trying to make a better future to Tennessee. It's true taxes in needs recognized. That is absolutely true. I FEEL DEFENSIVE ABOUT MEMPHIS TO MEMPHIS. Amazing. You know have Bill Street. Yeah. There's some things that I wanted to get to and that's where I connected with you because I was like, yes, I understand that needs to escape. But yet you know having these strong ties to my hometown It's. US You know and I always say at in calm from a reproductive rights background at came to it, and part of that is my experience in Texas in watching Texans in particularly poor people in taxes in rural people in Texas I'm being the canaries in coalmines of these rearrested policies that use reproductive oppression disenfranchise. So I really love this book because I've read some bit of this history in different books over time, and you just put it together into end. So well, right and I. I think one of the things about the Republican. Party. That happens I think we have these debates in the media when people talk about it as we just accept the Republican. Party. As is right without kind of thinking about how they got here or the illogic of their kind of overarching philosophy because a lot of it doesn't really make sense. Right. But you know when you read your book, the Republican Party today is not the way that it used to be like it's not recognisable from. Prior, to nineteen seventy right you at one Haley. How they kind of cobbled together this coalition of these disaffected smaller groups. You know these Democrats, who weren't happy with the passage of the Civil Rights Act and know some religious groups. So what were some of these initial groups in that coalition? Awkward it was a little bit. The opposite, right that every every political party has factions. There's no question about it, but you know as as the sort of book opens, you do see Jerry Falwell senior, who, subsequently passed and Paul and at small set a really fundamental as they call themselves dominion. It S, which means they believe God gave digging into white men over systems, elliptical, economic social systems, and. Our. Country, whereas before they had to do very much Mansi in short all the sudden is rich move mad. The Women's Liberation Movement is really challenging total control over power systems in the country and they mobilized to political action fighting school desegregation and. It's a long long story. You see throughout the book is that. An establishment GOP, which you still have any conservatives who still had social liberals in fiscal conservatives, they were not finding enough to hang together in related. People who hadn't been voting band goals were building over ten. Maybe we should add up and there was crew rate and they got more and more halt on a constituency within their electoral coalition that increasingly represented a small small action in the country in their views and they. Title, they were making deals with the devil and they. You know what? If anything can prince is that the artifice around abortion which seemed great to that at the time and I'm sure we'll discuss. Because one place where were toweling. Stream minority and they knew they didn't have public pain on their side. So it was a constant balancing act and what ended up happening is these radicals increasingly over to the party with each subsequent election, and trump is the ultimate manifestation of that.

Dr. Birx says coronavirus is "extraordinarily widespread" in rural areas

"Into a new month, and Dr Deborah Birks of the White House Corona Virus Task Force warns that were also in a new phase of the pandemic. What we're seeing today is different for March and April. It is extraordinarily rides spread. It's into the rural as equal urban areas and to everybody who lives in a rural area. You are not immune or protected from this virus. Works told CNN that no matter where people live, they should wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Today, President Trump called her pathetic in a tweet. Joining us now is NPR's Eric Whitney, who's keeping an eye on the latest news about covert 19 around the country. Hi, Eric. Hello, Jeremy. We just heard. Dr Burkes mentioned the spread in rural areas give us more details about where we're seeing spikes in rural parts of this country, So I'm based in Montana. It's a mostly rural state and like a lot of rural states, we've had very low numbers until about June. And since then we're seeing our overall case can't grow exponentially. Following rollbacks on restrictions on businesses and visitors. Last week, we saw a construction site at a mountain resort here blow up with more than 100 positive cases. I know there's a people in tourist towns were really concerned about all the out of state plates. They're seeing across many states, their frontline workers they're concerned about being exposed to the virus. Reporter in Tennessee tells me the outbreak there has now moved beyond Nashville and Memphis and become widespread across much of the state. And I think that's also the case in a lot of southern states with high infection rates like Mississippi and Alabama. Still pretty Communist e big spikes in rural places with big meatpacking plants or other agricultural operations where people worked closely together. Jails and prisons are often located in rural areas, and we're seeing spikes there, too, when you mentioned some of the states that are in the south. In fact, six of the top seven states in terms of the new cases are in the south. The other Being California are things starting to level off at all in those states that have seen spikes in recent weeks well, California's daily case count has dropped from a peak on July 25th of more than 10,000 new cases today. About 6400 yesterday. You know that's good news. But it is far from assured that trend will continue in 6400 cases a day is still huge that Khun spawned a lot of new spread. No, Arizona has seen a more sustained drop recently, the state's weekly average of new cases. Has been going down since early July. But health officials in Arizona and even that state's conservative governor Doug Ducey, are not saying that they're out of the woods yet Governor dues He paused his previous plans to continue broad reopening. Hospitals in Arizona have been strained. That's eased a little bit, but it's not over yet. And then, if you look a test positivity rates in many Southern states like Florida and South Carolina, there's they're often in the double digits. Mississippi's test positive the rate is over 20%. Georges is more than 12% in public health officials say that anything over a 5% positivity rate is concerning, so I don't think we can say that things were leveling off in Southern states.

Obituary: Herman Cain

"Herman Cain helped define the American black conservative movement. He also set the stage for trump by Philip Elliott. Herman. CAIN remembered the nineteen ninety-six moment that changed his political trajectory as clearly as any in his life. The businessman was advising Jack Kemp's vice presidential campaign and accompanied the boss to the iconic Sylvia's soul food restaurant in Harlem for an event a man in the crowd shouted out to Kane and colleagues Black Republicans, there's no such thing. The. Same Man in canes telling called them Uncle Toms. The episode. So angered Kane that when he got home from that campaign swing, he switched from a registered independent to a card carrying member of the Republican. Party and over the next quarter century, the child of the segregated south became one of the best known black Republicans in the country briefly rising to be his party's presidential front runner for the two thousand twelve nomination and remaining one of the most quotable stars in conservative media. So committed to his party's stick it in the I e host was Cain that he flew to Tulsa. Oklahoma for President Donald, trump's first return to the campaign trail after one hundred thousand US corona virus deaths despite dire warnings from public health experts at that endure rally on June twentieth the stage four colon cancer survivor posed for pictures without wearing a mask and sat in the packed stands with fellow fans of the president on June twenty-ninth Cain tested positive for the corona virus. On July second, his aides announced he had been hospitalized while fighting the disease his twitter account continued to criticize mask wearing and to promote unproven endorsements of hydroxy. On. July. Thirtieth CAIN aides announced he had died from the White House trump attributed the death to the thing called the virus cain among the most prominent Americans to die during this pandemic who was seventy four In many ways, Kane and trump were cut from the same cloth neither had been elected to any political post before running for the White House, both delighted in needling the Republican Party's establishment and the mainstream press they shot from the hip campaigned in slogans and didn't much care to learn the details. Both men were dogged by allegations of sexual affairs and inappropriate behavior, and both denied the allegations they proved disqualifying for Kane who ended his bid in December twenty eleven under intense scrutiny. But they did not derail trump just one election cycle. Later, they were also both savvy exploiters of the media. In saying things they knew would provoke outrage and thus amplify the celebrity at the core of their bids indifference toward if not hostility against what had come before was a cornerstone of their strategy, not a flaw. CAIN was born in Memphis in nineteen forty-five to a domestic worker mother and a janitor father when his dad was hired to be the chauffeur for the head of coca-cola, the family moved to Atlanta where cain would graduate from Morehouse College. He then completed his graduate studies at Purdue University after civilian service in the navy from there Kane moved from engineer to executive with Pillsbury and its subsidiaries of Burger King and Godfather's pizza where he would be its CEO. In nineteen, Eighty Eight, he oversaw Godfather's. From, Pillsbury throughout the same time yelled positions with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. That part of his resume lead trump to consider cane for a position in his administration a move that drew dissent from fellow Republicans who were not eager to revisit the allegations against Kane for three years. Kane led the national. Restaurant Association a lobbying arm for the industry that paid settlements to at least two women who detailed canes unwanted advances. His was not a typical career in his post. CEO Years Cain became a sought after motivational speaker and unsuccessful presidential candidate in two thousand and a Senate one in two thousand four. As, the tea party movement started to organize after Barack Obama's election to the White House. Kane emerged as one of its strongest spokespeople when the twenty twelve election cycle began kane decided to run the scrappy est of campaigns focused on untrue additional travel schedule that often seemed more like a book tour than an organizing effort. His novel nine, nine nine tax plan proposing a nine percent corporate business flat tax, a nine percent personal income flat tax and a nine percent national sales tax drew I rolls from economists but curiosity from voters. Antipathy toward front runner Mitt Romney proved sufficient to give cain a chance to rise in the late summer and fall of twenty eleven until his personal life just proved too much. But he didn't shrink from podcast life. Instead he became a ubiquitous voice and reliable critic of Democrats

Amtraks Sale on Sleeper Cars: COVID-19 Travel Solution?

"I love traveling by train. The sounds the scenery long distance train travel is almost undeniably romantic and yet. I almost always opt for airplanes in normal times. Train travel is just too time consuming for me and most average travelers, but of course we're not in normal times, and that's giving Amtrak and advantage over plane travel that it hasn't had in more than seventy years so rights Robert Clara and editor at Ad Week Clara unearthed a seventy four year old report produced by the Association of American railroads in a desperate bid to compete with convenience of flying. The report touted the solitude and comfort of the sleeping car over time of course that promotion failed. Until perhaps now once again in a new century for a new reason, Amtrak is making that same argument last week Amtrak, a two for one promotion, for its Roumat's tiny private compartments whose seats convert to upper and lower sleeping berths at night. Buy One ticket for a trip down the east coast or from Chicago to Los. Angeles and your companion can share your cozy for by seven foot space for free. Not Surprisingly Amtrak is promoting the affordable room at a great solution to cabin fever by staying isolated in your tiny train compartment. You can see the country without being pressed up against the flying masses. The ticket price includes linens, towels and meals which you can eat in the dining car. For! True social distancing have them delivered to your room at ticket. NFC West: Who will unseat the 49ers?

"So glad to be joined by Candace Silva of the rams wire as we go around the NFC west try to figure out who's going to unseat the forty Niners if they can be unseeded at the top of the division cam covers the the rams the rams who apparently are the hot bat right now to win the Superbowl at thirty to one what the hell's going on their camp yeah apparently they were the most popular Super Bowl bet of the last I think there's some were the bachelor come in anywhere on the rams won the Superbowl which is surprising because they've done nothing in the past okay two months to really bolster their claim as a Super Bowl contender in it's been a rough offseason for them so they got a bounce back in to see them as a Super Bowl favorite or not people will favor but to see so many people jumping on the bandwagon for them to win the Superbowl surprising I mean obviously they were just in the Super Bowl now might about a decade ago by our current time frame standards but it was two seasons ago and they still have the same quarterback they still have the same head coach where has it gone wrong we know what happened last year it in fact but if if people are buying in why would you say don't hi this is biggest issue right now I was really surprised that they essentially ignored the the office of identity try to remake it or bring in much talent really on the opposite line this offseason they refinance or what works best it brought back Austin blight who could play guard and center I'm so really they're sticking with the same group that they had last year there's a lot of competition really the only position that sat on the opposite wanted at left tackle with what danger what work right but the other four spots where they're gonna be competitions with Bobby Evans and rob Stein at right tackle Austin Blake and Bryan Alexander in the guard position is kind of just a mishmash of players who are relatively unproven at the NFL level so I would say that's the biggest issue switching Todd Gurley out for can makers they hope is going to be an upgrade at least hopefully in the in the explosiveness department because we do the regular Todd Gurley last season and he kind of seems like he's past his prime with the old me injury in right usage so they hope that with the improved often combined with these guys developing the younger guys and then a a better run game they're going to hopefully get back to their roots from the twenty seventeen twenty seventeen to twenty eighteen season that also supplying plan doesn't seem like a very good one considering that they're in a division with the forty Niners who I don't think I'm being a Homer here by saying that they have a pretty darn good defense of line like that that might not be a good match up for them yeah that's one of the best defensive line principality and you're gonna have it you're gonna have such a us a big mismatch every time that these teams square off because the defense of life for forty third San Francisco so good you got Nick Bosa all the guys on the interior Erik Armstead so there's gonna be tough match ups all across the front when these teams square off twice a year and you're not gonna want to right now in blocking these guys or Bobby Evans are often blight it's it's gonna be a tough match up for all these guys what's M. brings us to the cornerback what what went down with Jared Goff I mean I don't know what it was it all just smoke and mirrors in that Super Bowl season was he figured out I mean there there's been plenty of arguments I've seen a lot of smart people say listen as soon as Matt Patricia showed how to basically not bite on the play action it was game over for the rams they still made the Super Bowl but last year was not great is there any realistic expectation around the rams that they can make it jump now with you know maybe acres and there is the full time running back yeah I I wouldn't say your golf was just smoke and mirrors in twenty eighteen I thought he was a legitimate MVP candidates for most that season and then they kind of have that by the crazy Monday Night Football game against the chiefs and ever since then he's just more grass than not been the same player it was it was he was really terrible on play action last season which was a surprise but again that goes back to the office of line you just didn't have time to to get to a second read he didn't have time to to turn his back to the defense on these armies clashing passes so that a big impact but he's a player who I know they gave them a hundred thirty four million dollars but at this point in his career he doesn't seem like someone who's going to really master the issues of the rest of the offense it's not can overcome terrible off in one place so for him in the rams to really bounce back it's going to take an improvement on the offensive line golf getting back to how he was playing in twenty eighteen and then that running game coming alive and that seems like a lot of that on because it's it's everything coming together as a cohesive unit but I mean with the talent that they do have they still look really good receivers with concocting Robert wood acres and Henderson at running back our promising and golf if he if he lives up to his contracting really pleased the way the FHS quarterback showed the ram should bounce back nicely I like Henderson he came out of Memphis right yep yep he he really was under utilized last year yeah they were kind of well I wouldn't say stubborn sticking with elderly but he just didn't get many opportunities but when he did when he did get some chances he showed his show computer production yeah if you could once against the forty Niners last season to worry bounced off a few tackles and I mean he he's a smaller guy he runs hard and he he he also I'm interested to see how they utilize them with Cammy Kerr's

"John Mirant Journey Jackson fresh off a nice late night flight from Atlanta like this is the glamorous life of the NBA right. Like what time did you guys get in here last night Probably like one closer to very late. You Guys Jaren Jar. Like how much do you guys my sense? Is You guys? Do everything together home on the road. What what. What's what's it like having a guy who you connect with right away who you see there. You know you're building an organization. They're building an organization around. And like you just intertwined and the way you guys all right now I mean you know it makes it easier on the basketball court just because you know all chemistry's chemistry but At the end of the day I think it's just it's unique. Sr Ganic I think were closed group overall and we all seem to get along. Usually just 'cause usually because we're all young but I will say That it just Kinda just happened you some. You really can't can't put a finger on specifically why but it's good. What did you know about this Guy John when you get drafted by Memphis? You know. You'RE COMING MEMPHIS IT number two. What did you know about? Jaren Jackson started watching Fan. We kinda talk after the lottery. You know trying to get to know each other after I got drafted. It just went to another level again like no laughing joking all that time visual learning each other just carried over to the floor. What's it been like being without this guy on the court here? The last few weeks plane without it's been tough you know Not Too many guys can do he do on the floor He does a lot for us. spreads the flow out Protect a pain dominating. The paint was just a lot of things that you can't just add up to but she just got God and just compete each and every Jaren when you get drafted fourth and COME TO MEMPHIS. Last year you probably could sense. You're at the end of one era. Conley Marcus Saul and the team was going to cycle into. What would be the next Thera? Wha- what was it like early on last year with playing with Conley plane with the assault and then seeing the thing start to break apart over time and knowing. Hey I'm going to be kind of front and center on this rebuild here now when when the front office starts making moves you usually get wind of you know things are going to start changing Mike and Marken. Everybody did a great job of leading in doing but they did for so many years that they kind of put the team in a great position. Where me and Dylan at the time. Who were there can make an impact going forward and we know how to carry ourselves handle ourselves and then we add him it. Just it makes everything easy so it was quick though because last year it was a completely different team has come. It's now completely whole thing now. How much do you guys hear about like Memphis is used to have like a partnership right? It was Marcus Hall and my colleague for a very long time. They accomplished a lot got to the playoffs. Every year advanced in the playoffs. When you listen to the fan base or you listen in that community and even maybe around the building in the organization about sort of standard those guys set like professionalism and how they went about their business. Do you still feel it around the organization a little bit. Did you hear about it? A Lot. I mean. Of course you hear it a lot. Those guys meant a lot to Memphis But I mean we're a new team like you said So we just go out and just try to us and instead of liberal somebody else life You know just go out and compete. Just play together. Shot to get wins. This was you know how it goes when you have first year. Second Year guys. You're supposed to be in the lottery. You're supposed to take your bumps over few years and then maybe two years from now you compete to get the eighth spot is a seven spot in the West and here you guys are holding down the eighth spot. You've done it with injuries with guys out with some teams on your tail within your group. Was there much conversation earlier about. Maybe we're a little bit better than people think and maybe we shouldn't be putting any limits on what we can do. It is not easy to make the playoffs in the West. You guys know what you go through every night. But what was the conversation among the group about that? Maybe this would be better quicker than than anyone else imagined. We was looking to the future. We always focused on. The president thanked the first message. We sent out to each other worse. We try to be good now. So we'll doing that. We could Practicing hard you know just trying to get better each and every day Just trying to continue to learn grow. We got a young team we had some vets. We got some young coaches. So does everybody know just bought into what we have to do. Learning everything and then once we got clicking. We just went on a row. Now I think from from the start. We knew our building what we're capable of. But like you said you know. Stay in the president's key I think when you stay in the present and do just your habits. Every day everything works out the way it should if you just put in the work and you know that's what we did and we've always been confident in income from anything and income from Windsor. We just were GONNA have the confidence regardless to go out there and play because we're doing what we love at the end of the day doesn't doesn't matter for winning or losing. Brennan do the same thing. Yeah Jaren you've seen Gye. He's had two plays this year that I think John has gotten more like made more. Highlights gotten more attention for to miss dunks right than anybody gets on made ones the. Kevin Love One earlier this season and then Anthony Davis the one the other night like. Are you guys waiting for him? Like one of these days. He's one of those is going to go down against one of these guys right like like you get a little closer on those. When he's put trying to put one down on seven foot all star guy in this league. Are we getting closer to seeing it? I mean you've already seen it as well and there's a lot a lot of crazy he's missed. But there's a lot of crazy nineties made and you're gonNA see a probably a lot of both for a many years but he's got to remember that at the end of the day that's that's not all to his game You know those dunks are crazy but you know the other parts of his game. The fact that he's able to read the flooring has like he is the reason why we're getting wins. And that's pretty much all I care about at this point. Do you fear for his safety? And he's he's ten feet up in the air flying. He's it's a hard landing on those zero party like all right. Don't get hurt doing these. Maybe maybe on a couple of hours but I you know body control. He has good body control. So you know we work on. We work on stuff like that Landings and jumping and stuff to make sure that doesn't happen so yeah I'm not. I'm not worried about do in that moment. What is how in your mind. Are you calculating? Sort of the risk reward of one down on somebody about because you get caught up in the air you get hit or is it just instinct. You just see the rim and just go just go always address of my mindset was just finished play Honestly don't care who's under the go Stood I say my set. So the one. The other night was a moment. You thought I got this one. I've got this one just caught the back door and we're just going to finish They ended up quality to charge. But I mean I just wasn't able to get our before I wasn't able to get up for They call it Scotts turf builder. Thicker Lawn has announced. month on another project apparently has an affinity for Memphis and trying to help the city here part of this according to local officials yes that they are looking to use the S. to reassign a number of federal special agents to certain cities as well as building up task forces through collaborative efforts with state and other law enforcement partners there's no word exactly on how the money will be divided but they're hoping to increase staffing at the sheriff's office and with the Memphis police department course Memphis according to William Barr said quote in Memphis it's the second most violent city in the country with the violent crime rate five times the national average our guest in about six minutes will tell you all about that too because every day he kicks off his short for clock with the heinous crime report talking about all the violence in the city of Memphis been Ferguson will join us in about six minutes right here on this very radio station let's talk about some other news it's not all about crime okay well maybe it is a local nurse going to fox thirteen was busted stealing from the hospital where she worked Bailey Solomon I worked at Methodist low Bonner as a registered nurse I July audit revealed that someone stole drugs from work and even use the medication while she was on the clock in an email to the hospital someone said to her clinical director after her license was suspended quote I can't believe I allowed a drug addiction to surface and screw up my future going to fox thirteen they found some records showed in a two week period solving had one hundred and thirty instances where the administration waste and waste of controlled substances were not documented properly that includes twenty one different medications and a total of four hundred and sixty one individual items such as pills or surrender syringes according to the records found a fox thirteen looking in Tennessee Mississippi and Arkansas hundred fourteen nurses had their license either revoked or suspended after they tested positive for narcotics admitted to being addicted or were punished for mishandling narcotics our license you currently is suspended enter multi state privilege to practice in any other state is the activated so they don't allow the what do they call that when you can practice another reciprocation you can't yeah she can't do it in another state but you know that temptation is there when you're with with drugs I mean I can see that if somebody has a propensity for that maybe doesn't even know what but then it happens in Germantown a nineteen year old has been arrested for stealing keys out of the locker Germantown athletic club and then stealing the car was found around town a little bit later on and they arrested a nineteen year old in that case it didn't take too long but he did get busted coming up we got been Ferguson on the show we're gonna talk about some local and some national issues on security has a take regarding the increase employment about city council on trash and also on your utilities will talk to him about that we'll talk about impeachment of course again top story two articles of impeachment passed in the house representatives essentially on party lines you did have a few Democrats defect to vote against impeachment and now we'll wait a Senate trial.

"Memphis morning news it is seven forty five we got a temperature of thirty four a wind chill of twenty four it is at a little bit of flurry activity out there as well no surprise a high temperature only thirty nine for today city council will meet today and the term if they're going to add seven or eight Bucks a month trash feed to keep from letting go up to three hundred employees and limiting your trash to basically one pick up per month and also you may be experiencing a rate hike from emoji W. soon incremental increases on the different services which would be spread out until twenty twenty two sh man man oh man it is a it's a could be a time where you get them separated for more money in your wallet we'll talk to give Khan right about that tomorrow following the city council meeting today which would be a little bit later on also in the news by the way Grizzlies when again last night they moved to ten and seventeen pick up a win over the Miami Heat and they are a just a couple of games out of the last playoff spot at this point twenty seven games in about a third of the way through the season and I know that their ten and seventeen but they're a couple games they probably could have won and just lost late in the fourth quarter it's not a bad grizzly steam not bad at all also in the news a house fire in Memphis in Cooper young area this is caused by lightning strike yesterday morning over Peabody near Cooper several thousand dollars of damage that's a strong storm tornado damage and counted cross parts of Mississippi Alabama we did not catch the brunt of that yesterday thankfully all right joining us now is the host the been Ferguson showed catching every weekday at four o'clock right here well then I guess tomorrow old breathlessly awaiting air the nation will be for the articles of impeachment and whatever else they're going to be going on I know the the house Judiciary Committee just finished up on I guess whatever rules they're going to go over yeah it's going to be the rest the rest impeachment and that's exactly what the plan is there going to hurry up and do this go and check every box that along the way and make sure that the members of the Democratic Party don't have the option to leave town without impeaching the president then they can you know make sure that they don't have more people to fact and not present in the new polls are out it's a big swing in there was a poll simple the came out so Levin point swing and the last two weeks of people that were in favor of impeachment you are no longer in favor of impeachment are among independent it's four and a half points overall nationwide but in swing states the numbers are significant in swing states and so I think what you're saying now is Democrats realize they made a mistake and their chart hurry up and see the mistake through I guess to put it behind them so that may be it's forgotten in time for the twenty twenty election is that the font no because it looked when you've got a big civil war this growing within the Democratic Party right now and that is look Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and Jerry Nadler and Steve Cohen for example these types of Democrats they are in districts where they're not having to worry about losing their job because of impeachment what the problem is and and it seems like in leadership the only one that really realized this is Nancy Pelosi but she also wants to make sure that she stops because I house she is is trying to figure out how do you do this without losing these other member these other people like I said they don't care I mean you know if you impeach Donald Trump it's a personal you know then data for Steve Cohen he hates him you hate him since day one anyone to stick it to the man he's in a district where you can do are irresponsible partisan hack relax yes or a cute you know which is what this really is literally overthrowing the will the people because what his mentality is I don't care about trump's orders because I don't represent the misty color does not represent you if you're concerned that if he doesn't listen to you if you're a Republican he doesn't listen to you if you voted for Donald Trump so he doesn't care that he alienates you because in his district he can do that what with the Democrats have done those and lefties other Democrats literally let them hang out to dry and it's it's pretty pathetic then Ferguson joining us on the show this morning and I guess they're supposed to be a Democrat debate Thursday night but I was talking with tiny J. powers a few moments ago and that may not even go down due to a worker strike there in the area yeah which is in that ironic yes don't you thank I mean it's it's hysterical those strike would make you not have a debate it would be an embarrassment but it's a match and if this happened in a Republican debate it would be wall to wall news coverage I'm sure the Democrats will you know just kind of in the media will just kind of overshadow it and do the bare minimum reporting act like it never happened yeah Ben Ferguson joining us on the on the program what else you gonna be touching on look at later on today yeah I think we'll be talking about this the politics of these poll numbers are errors interesting that come out while this talk about that one of the crime report as well as for Clark with some of the crimes committed in which you get it on this really cool weather as well all right then all right get a few flurries this morning thanks for getting up and have a Cup of coffee with us and we will look for this afternoon at four o'clock presaging thanks for the truck you're saying I mean there's been version follow him had been Ferguson show right here on six hundred W. R. C. in ninety two point one FM get him on Twitter and die you can be up to date Oct city council meeting today will find out a little bit more on potential hikes on trash and also light gas and water tiger basketball this Saturday at noon that's the tipoff against Jackson state at FedEx forum the pre game will be at eleven we'll have it right here on the home of your tiger seven fifty two thirty four degrees and some flurries here's traffic with heather good morning right now it's still a delayed due to an earlier right how much about two forty just east.

"Associate editor of the Memphis business journal, our friend Megan Nichols. Megan. Thanks for joining us. How are you? A hope you are thawing out like the rest of us doing well. Good morning guys. Yeah. It's great to have you back on the program. Okay. Big announcement from Electrolux that seems to be making all the headlines what's going on with Electrolux? Yeah. So this is certainly the big headline. Yesterday was news that the Electrolux Memphis plan is going to be closing in twenty twenty so at its peak plant employed more than a thousand people currently has about five hundred and thirty employees locally, but the company is apparently consolidating its cooking products appliances business to Springfield, Tennessee. And it's going to be reinvesting in that plant Electrolux has previously stated how about ten percent of its North America revenue came from a Sears, essentially, so Sears bankruptcy has certainly had a negative impact. But Electrolux received a significant amount of incentives for its Memphis facility. So still lots of questions that need to be answered. But there were apparently not clawback provision for those incentives. So currently the state in Shelby county remain on the hook for a lot of that original investment to get them here. Now, meghan. I know what a clawback is. But for those that may not know in our audience. What does it clawback when it comes to a pilot? So essentially, it's if they were to leave before the pilot wants to expire, there'd be some provision where the incentives, and they might have to pay back where they then send it to be called off. So you kind of it's a safety net for our investment. But that was not in that contract. No, we're going to have to wait and see on this one. Oh, I wonder if that was a cut and paste wonder about that Meghan Nichols associated or the Memphis business journal joining us this morning. Other big company news FedEx retirement age. I changed their. Yes. So there's two kind of things that came from the board of directors this week with FedEx, I other notable news was Dave bronze Accu the president CEO. Fedex just was elected to the company's board of directors. So that decision is effective immediately. But the board also announced changes to the company's corporate government guidelines so previously. There was a mandatory retirement age for seventy five years old now that age requirement only applies to nonmanagement directors. Fred Smith is currently seventy four years old. So that's the adjustment in that rule. It'd be yeah. It'd be kind of weird to boot the founder of the company. Yeah. Meghan Clark tower getting a new tenant. Yeah. So little headquarter relocation news true. Temper sports is getting ready to move its headquarters to Clark tower. So true temper, which is one of the leading manufacturers of golf shafts is currently headquartered out and turnament drive in Southwind, but they're going to be moving to Clark tower in east Memphis, the company said they wanted to be in the heart of the city, rather than the suburbs. And that's kind of a larger plan to grow their local employees account by fifteen to twenty percent in the next couple of years. They wanted to space it would help attract some new talent. So that's supposed to be built out this spring, and they'll be moving in shortly after that. So I guess a warning into be careful for folks over at the Lenny's and over at the vitamin Shoppe and Home Depot if they start testing drivers on top Clark tower could be a problem across right? Four five six seven and eight you're hitting it off a Clark tower. Megan Nichols, the associated or Memphis business journal checking in with us this morning, Pyros one of my favorite pizza places in town. They've they branch out to not just hot food but cold to. Yeah. So little food update. The owners behind Pyros who also own Levy coffee and creamery recently opened their second coffee and ice cream shops. That's located over in the mixed-use Highland road development right by the university of Memphis. You might remember we talked about this a while ago and plans first came out, but they had some slight delays. But they are now officially open, and we have some photos of their new space on our website and check out very good as a subscriber to the Memphis journal. Now, you've got some big things coming up this week for those that have not subscribed or or getting ready to check that out. What have you got coming up? So we have a cover story this week called it. Welcome to Motown. It looks at how mayor Strickland plans to capitalize on the city's momentum. And we also have our. Annual special report this week on education called top honors. You can find that at Memphis business journal dot com. Terrific follow her at 'em BJ Nichols for the top stories of the week in fact throughout the week. You can you can get a heads up on what's going on around town. Megan. Thank you for joining us on. I did you gotta stay with your fellow university of Memphis alumni. Yeah. Absolutely. All right. Then patriots. It is have a good weekend. Megan thanks for joining us. Thank all, right. That and get 'em BJ Nichols. You can follow her on Twitter, by the way. Congratulations. I know. He is going to be the team's first captain when they kick off. Can you believe it? You can actually now say they will kick off the regular season. The first game in gosh, what thirty eight thirty nine years next month. They do have some preseason games coming up and they'll play university of Memphis next weekend. But congratulations to Memphis, not one AFC for finding their captain. Also, Memphis, express kicks off in kosh, Sherry, can you believe football in Memphis kicks. Off in about nine days. "William bell at pure stacks, sixty eight Memphis story new box that commemorates the incredible year that nineteen sixty eight was for stacks records and also in American history and the history of the civil rights movement to and we're gonna talk more about nineteen nineteen sixty eight. But I I want to hear a little bit more about your own personal history with stacks records, which I understand began long before that in in the early sixties. So so tell me about first signing with stacks. What was the what was the deal? Came to stacks that to the attention of stacks. I had a vocal group called the del Rio's. And they wanted some backup singing behind collar Thomas's. Gee whiz. So that was how I came to stacks to do some backup work with my vocal group, and we cut a couple of sides stacks like this the way we sound the sound and everything and we cut a couple of forty five during that time with stacks and nothing major happen. But chips moment wanted to sign me other solo artists, and eventually I signed, and I was the first single male artists that they signed on the Stax label because they were satellite records earlier. And so I signed on with them. They had Rufus some Carlin and the head them. Marquees, but the male artist, I was the first one that they signed that really put them on the map with you. Don't miss your water. So that was your big big single in nineteen sixty one. Can you tell me a little bit about what the studio is like around stacks at at that time in those early days. Kind of bland that in the early days because it was a a vacant theater building. And they converted it into a studio. So we just had bam minimum of things to work with. So we had to be really created without sound and everything, but it was a place that had an unusual sound just great musicians that came through and we developed it, and and nurse didn't honed it and made we didn't know it was going to have this kind of longevity. But it did. And we made at a career out of it. We're gonna play a little bit of that first single that you're that you're mentioning you. Don't miss your water until your well runs. Dry. Can you tell me maybe how some of the creativity that you're talking about like having really get creative? With the space applied to to making this song. Sound the way that it does? We were like mayhood kids all of us were Dinu Booker. And we went to same high school. I knew David porter Isaac all of us were just kids in the neighborhood, man. When you say. Okay. And and so the actual recording of it was just getting a bunch of young kids together and seeing what kind of talent and how we fit in. And we just worked at it. We really had led going to university we had to hone our craft and learn how to really right correctly asong that told the story and three verse, of course, a less, and and it was at the beginning trial and error. We went through a lot of musicians that because it would not only about the talent. But the middle attitude, and how you fit into what we would doing and the kind of music because we were at that time, which was not fashionable. It was during daren't segregation years, and we will. Mixed crowd mixed. Racially, and but we inside the confines of stacks. We will one family and that was important, and we just really created some just dynamic creations there in terms of music. I wanna come back to that very special place that that stacks occupied. I think in a racially segregated Memphis in nineteen sixty eight and a little bit. I know that's a really fascinating an important part of the story. But where we are right now, we're we're in nineteen sixty one and I wanna play a little bit of you. Don't miss your water until your well runs dry. So here we go. Now. You don't miss you..

"We travel back fifty years to nineteen sixty eight Memphis, Tennessee to take a peek inside one of the most influential recording studios, we're talking about stacks records co founded by brother and sister, Jim Stewart and Estelle accident. It was home to the likes of Otis Redding staple singers, t and the m g his Thomas is a ks and my guest on the show today, William bell. He's here to tell stories of the wildly productive time. That's captured a new box set called stacks sixty eight which features all one hundred thirty four singles that stacks put out that year. Blooms also here to talk about what was going on. Outside of stacks, and the politics that you can't separate from the music of that time while stacks was an integrated space. In Williams words, Memphis itself was staunchly segregated nineteen sixty eight was the year of the sanitation worker strike and in April Martin Luther King junior was assassinated at the Lorraine motel which was also hang out for some of the stacks crowd, including Isaac Hayes. He was a friend of William bells. And so was Otis Redding Otis's song sitting on the dock of the bay was released in early nineteen sixty eight shortly after reading died in December of sixty seven in a tragic plane crash. William bell joins me in a moment less. Listen to the song. I here we go. How? Plotting ships..

"And this is a pro every day Mark the same way all of our guys like we don't have guys who take plays off. We don't have guys who take practices off, you know. So I appreciate it. So when a guy says something to you, you know, you're probably in the wrong, which was you know, that to be that line between staying true to what you believe your values are thought out over the summer in a preseason of how you're going to do things and how you think it fits your group? But then to be able to just go off of it. And that's that ability coach has to have. To say to stop saying. Let's just keep doing it 'til we do it right versus. Maybe we're not doing it. Exactly. Maybe we should do it differently. Well, I think what it comes down to is understanding that it's not about you. And the only thing that matters is what's happening with the team. So if you've got something that you think is unbelievable. And you know, you put all this time and work and all this. If it doesn't work for the group of guys that you have it doesn't matter. So if you go into a situation with the idea that the team is always first then it makes your decisions easy. You know, you don't have to sit there and rethink it. It's it's not about us as coaches it's about what's best for the team. And you know, I can be wrong. You know what? I mean. I got no problem with that guy tells them, hey, you know, this made work a little better for the group that we have I'm open. It's easy. Obviously there's certain core principles that we have. But you know, whatever's best for the team as far as long as it is for the team. It's not what's best for me as. A play or me as this player me. Is that player it's genuinely in the best interest of the team that I'm open to it JV. I appreciate you taking time as always. And you got some film to watch tonight. "I mean, we're not playing exactly the same. You know from a defensive standpoint we hope to get after you offensively. We are shooting more threes shooting a higher percentage from three that type of thing to kind of keep up with where the league is going. But we've got a mindset of you know, we're going to get after you defensively we're going to try to play harder than you every single night. We're going to try to be unselfish to me. That's the city of Memphis at I've seen, you know, in the short time that I've been there like you couldn't coach the Lakers play this way. Right. Right. Yeah. It's identity the market. And I just think Memphis the fans they're like this is synonymous to them with success in winning. And like you said people underestimate what a great basketball town. Memphis, what Memphis state, and then, of course, university of Memphis and all the players who've come from there while it still a relatively newer NBA market. It's a pretty sophisticated basketball market. They appreciate how you play in the way do it. And it's a high Q basketball town to which I think is, you know, it's a unique situation where you know, they see what's going on. They recognize it. And they understand it. They come to our games. They watch what our guys are doing. They watched a style that they play they watch and recognize the extra pass they watch and recognize the extra rotation. You know, you go out in about town. And you know, you can have games where you one and people are saying things to you like, hey, will, you know? What we're going to do about that defense, the slippage that you'll usually maybe only seen the film room. Right. Exactly. And it's it's it's fun. You know, what I mean to have you know, open and have educated conversations with basketball fans..

"Harry one welcome in to another addition of the wochit, pod Herron Manhattan with Memphis grizzlies, coach JV, Bickerstaff GB. How are you? I'm doing good long-term. Ben traffic was crazy. Oh, yeah. You what what was longer traffic from the airport to lower Manhattan or the flight from Memphis to New York? It had to be the it's always it's always like that. When I have to go from jersey to Brooklyn some nights. I'm like I could fly to Atlanta faster, then go twenty eight miles right in the car to go over to bridges. This point in the season. You guys have gotten off to a terrific start. Who are the teams either you played or new prepared for or you're watching and you're going while because I think some people look at Memphis and say, hey, I'm some are surprised I think others aren't they just see that you're healthy? But who've you played this year or who have you watched. And you said hey that team. I like what that team's doing that team surprise me or I that seems maximizing what they have right? I think the Tina stands out. Most of my mind is the clippers the job that doc has done the the group of guys that they've assembled and the way that they're playing, you know, everybody says they don't have a star. But they have a bunch of really really good basketball players. They got guys. They're back court may be one of the best defensive bag courts. You know, the young kid is really really good defensively. Avery Bradley is really good Patrick Beverley is really good defensively. And then obviously they got guys like to buy his hairs gala Nari, Lou Williams who. Can score the ball. And then you know, give mantras at ton of credit. You know, he's come up huge form you had him in Houston. Yeah. Exactly. And it was he was one of those guys that it was like if he got minutes. Good things we're going to happen because he just plays so hard. And I think he's gotten better. He's learned how to use the length of his arms to help him finish around the pain early in summer league when he played force. He would get his shot blocked a lot when his rookie year. But he's figured that out. Now, he knows how to move the ball around. He knows how to use his body to create those opportunities for himself. So give them a ton of credit for giving better. I think this year has been an example, clippers are great example of this. But this year has been an example of we all make lots of sumptious come into a season, and what it's going to be. And it's like, oh, it's just gonna be Golden State Boston. They both got clear lanes to the finals and maybe for Golden State. That's still very much. The case wants healthy Boston has struggled more and they're figuring things out. But when you look at the standings twenty games in which usually appoint. Organizations are saying they're starting to decide are we buyers are we sellers who are we where do we fit in the league? I think there's more confusion among teams of who they are even an who others are than we've seen other years despite into the into the season. Yeah. I would agree. I mean, you know, there's you know, you look at the standings you watch games. And there is some some guys that we thought our teams that we thought would be shoe ins to be in whatever position whether in the playoffs out of the playoffs. And you know, there's not that clear. Cut separation between teams. So it's fun. You know to be a part of it because every single night, you know, even this early in the season, you're still jockeying and you're hoping to give yourself and opportunity in April. But you know, the Portland's of the world the clippers of the world we talk about like, they're people who have been, you know, surprising. So to speak..

"Memphis Tigers lead at seventy five at the half down in Dallas, Texas against SMU. Not much scoring obviously they seven five ballgame. Breaking things down. It was SMU who got the field goal or twenty two seconds remaining in the first quarter. Replied, oh. With a twenty one yard field goal Brady white going to join magnetic over sixteen yards. The Patterson kick made at seven three that's nine twenty six remaining in the first half. And then Patrick Taylor. Put down for a safety with a couple of minutes remaining in the first half the brings to the seven to five game. Again, at the most important thing though, mad even though it's kind of a strange game getting some strange calls. Some officials a little bit Nate o'clock game on a Friday. Both teams trying to find their gear still up by two. Maybe Friday's the problem. Maybe the extra day of non preparation has been a problem. I'm Jeff, and of course, this is your wake I guess you could say for both teams. But just not a lot of fire either southbound one or two big plays gonna break. This thing open. Maybe. A special teams return. Maybe you turn over which the Tigers took advantage of on their turnover to actually score their touchdown, a something like that may change the complexion of this thing. But there's a lot for both teams riding on the second half. Now, let's see which team can handle the pressure trying to stay in control of potentially wanting to Wes they've got to do that by tomorrow. Don't forget the second half coming up. But before we do that, we do need to pause, ten seconds for station ideas. Listen tiger football. The.

"Now, back to last podcast on the left. Admittedly with buyers, there was actually more evidence for him being the murderer than there was for the west Memphis three, and we'll get an all that later. But as we know, just a scant bit of evidence does not emerge for make suppose the point of all this is that while the cops did investigate buyers more than other parents buyers wasn't the only parent who should have been looked into, then there was the matter of Mr.. Bojangles the restaurant? Yeah. Really. We notice when the beginning of in the beginning of the devils there was like there's a map of west Memphis. And the first thing before I said reading, it was a arrow towards the bojangles in town. I was like, is this just like their impromptu city hall? Is that. Rent out the party room for most court case. It's a pretty good deal free app. It's a problematic name. Is that correct? Bojangles that I don't think so. Okay. Mr Bowe jail, you know, the Jerry, Jeff Walker, I know the dance for you Ben, the old soft shoe. Oh, absolutely. Well, I hope he has. I hope it's hard shoes for walking. So at around eight forty on the night of the murders, a call was made to the west Memphis police department from bojangle's fast food that bleed black guy entered the restaurant and hid in the bathroom. He left by the time, the cops at arrive, but there was plenty of blood, for example, scrapings were made that night but were quickly lost. Oh, brilliant. And this is only important because a hair belonging to a buck dude was found at the crime scene. Very interesting. And it's possible that at the very least they could cross reference to the DNA eventually because it was ninety. Three DNA wasn't like a super strong thing just yet, but in the future it could have been possible. They could cross reference that hair with the blood and they could've seen like, okay, well maybe it's the same guy here, but they lost the samples. Now I just don't understand and maybe you guys can tell me a little bit how the hell do you lose the sample? Don't you just go. On like, how does that happen? Mr. bead. Okay. Well, that makes sense. I'm not saying definitively that one of the parents or the men who came to be known as Mr. bojangles is the killer or part of a killing team. Excuse me here Mr. Marcus Mon is Frederick bojangles Representative jangled, and we wanna say, we would like to frown upon the use of this possible suspect and being named Mr Boge because it does not reflect the pinion of bojangles. We just feel that people should eat the chicken. Absolutely. The point I'm trying to make here is that there were very specific lines of investigation that the west Memphis PD Khuda taken, but didn't from the very beginning. The words of Jerry driver and Steve Jones carried some weight and both the community and in the police department, it seems I though that the lead investigator detective, Gary Goetchel treated. The whole satanic thing is a very unlikely. Third option get Joel. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Buddy. Looks like a two reminds me of Hugh minds me of the bad CD dude from Ghostbusters to Gary gets you'll. He also sounds like he was born with a kangaroo patch, but in his lip just made for chewing tobacco much. That's my two pouch. So get, you'll held a press conference concerning the murders, engage three options..
