Big Wins Across State Primaries This Week

"Had Kansas and Missouri Arkansas having battles, Missouri. We saw Eric Schmidt, the attorney general over there when the nomination in the battle of Eric's Donald Trump chiming in with an endorsement of Eric with two candidates having the same first name, Eric Schmidt ended up getting the win and will face off to try and make sure the Missouri Senate race stays in Republican hands and then down in Arizona. Carrie Lake finally gets the final nod that she's the winner in Arizona. Maricopa County, Phoenix that screwed up the 2020 election has done no progress in getting any further along at being able to actually count votes and get through an election process. You know, you've got other countries where they can literally hand count ballots and they can do it in 24 hours. Maricopa County can't even get it done in a few days and they had chaos, they had confusion, like we saw in 2020, despite all the denials that there was any election problems in Arizona that it didn't get stolen from Trump, but a big week there, and then in Tennessee, where we're broadcasting from in Memphis, Andy ogles wins the Republican primary in the Tennessee 5th congressional district. Last night, as Republicans redrew that district in Tennessee, it's been a 9 congressional district state for a while. Traditionally, you've had 7 Republicans to Democrats in recent years. Well, with redistricting, Republicans redrew the lines in Nashville, dividing Nashville up, adding some of the suburban counties to it. And for the first time for the first time since reconstruction, the Civil War, Republicans have an actual shot to pick up Nashville and probably do that new district is about a 12 plus Republican district Donald Trump carried it by over a dozen points,

Rep. David Kustoff: The Left's Crime Policies Don't Work

"Going on here? What's happening with the district attorneys we've got a guy running who's a Democrat and he believes in raising the age of juvenile crimes to 25 years old. I mean, this is a big issue not just here in Memphis, but nationwide. So Todd, I'm a former United States attorney. I had the tremendous honor to serve about 15 years ago as the U.S. attorney for the western district of Tennessee. You know, you see big spikes in violent crime in cities all across the country. And I think it's an issue all over. But it really does matter who governs. And we've seen these social experiments with the very liberal progressive DAs play out in places like Philadelphia, San Francisco, New York, New York, my colleague, Lee zeldin, who was attacked and his attacker was released the next day without any bail fortunately, federal authorities later charged that attacker and arrested him. But when you look at this locally and you reference this local district attorney's race and you see national money, national progressive liberal money. Come in for the Democrat candidate, that tells you something. These experiments have not worked. They recall that very liberal progressive district attorney in San Francisco because even in San Francisco, they were fed up. You care about this community. I care about this community. I grew up here and went to high school here and went to college here. You know, the fact of the matter is one thing is the Tennessee legislature did something as you know in this past session where they passed a truth in sentencing law. And that hopefully will keep some of these people, these offenders locked up for real time where you don't have to play Chinese math and try to figure out how long somebody's in prison for it. But

"I do believe that there is some redemption. I really do. I am the eternal hopeful person. I am the eternal optimist. I know that we're bracing for a red wave in November. But we also have to we also have to make sure in that wave, there are some current conservative water drops in that red wave. That's true. And not just a general wave. And with the pushback toward the center, I think we'll see that number rise and I think there will be some great things, but right now people are paying on average 17% more overall for a cookout. You're seeing gas prices, of course, more than double than last year. And I know locally and probably with your utilities as well where you live, we're on the Tennessee valley authority near our flagship station, but I'm sure you as well where you live, you're going to see significant increases this summer. We were just told here in the Memphis, Tennessee area to brace for an increase in utility bills of 20 to 40%. So not only does it cost more to get to the store, then good luck finding things on the shelves and then getting back home and it's gonna cost you 20 to 40% more just to store your perishable items to keep them from getting spoiled. There's a lot to be. There's a lot to be worried about in our country, but does that mean we have to get rid of our pride? I don't think so, but only 39% of Americans say they are proud to be Americans. This according to a Fox News poll, are you proud to be an American call us

"Is, it's got George Soros. It's got the odor of George Soros. It's got the odor of antifa and Black Lives Matter and these far left Democrat groups and Gigi, they just want to shut down anybody that has an opinion contrary to theirs, but the problem I have with this, we're talking about a basketball game and Joey Sullivan said nothing wrong. And he's being crucified for this. And if you look at his Facebook page, which is public and we understand owns that, you know, regardless of race this city has come together to fight for him. So regardless of who you are, where you come from in regardless of race, it is so obvious this entire city has just out there fighting for him where this woke mob and whoever supporting this needs to understand, you can't divide us. No, you can't. And that's the way to do it. GG is to take a stand together. And you've got a radio station in Memphis, Kwame, and that's the voice. That's a mouthpiece to get the word out to unify to mobilize and to fight back. We absolutely listen to it. We love Tim van horn and we thank you. All right, Gigi, do you

"Let's talk about Joey solo pack. Now, you know Joey, you were a meteorologist, your weather guy here in the Memphis area for a very long time before switching over and doing the right thing and coming to radio. Exactly. Exactly. I knew joy for I've known Joey for over 20 years. We did not work at the same station, but I would see him at conferences. I would see him locally and he's always been professional. He's the kind of guy that will walk up and ask you and know, you know, your family's name, how they're doing. He's the kind of guy that you want in the market. So he's a good guy. Very much so. So he's a big Memphis Grizzlies fan, and of course, there was a lot going on. It was a pretty tense rivalry between the warriors and the grizzlies. And he wrote a tweet. Yes, he did. And this goes all the way back to May 7th, and this was when the grizzlies were in the second round against the Golden State Warriors and draymond green is a troublemaker on the court. He runs his mouth a lot, he'll push, he'll nudge whatever he can to get an advantage. And one of the grizzlies players had just gotten ejected for the first time that they had mouthed off to the official. Joy writes, chew on this, draymond runs his knuckle dragging open mouth all game long, but mild mannered, Kyle Anderson disputes one call and gets ejected. Next level, Jack assery. That's it. So basically, he was saying the guy's a Neanderthal. Yes, okay. All right. Well, well, the local sports guy for the commercial appeal. Got ahold of that tweet and turned it into this big racial controversy that literally went nationwide. Everybody was talking about poor Joey solo pet who in the aftermath apologized. He should not have apologized. He did nothing wrong, and then deleted his account, he should not have done that. He did nothing wrong.

Memphis Progressives Feud With President Trump

"I mean, they're complaining about everything. You had the progressive city council in Memphis, and they said, no security for Donald Trump. We're not going to be providing any police, and you know what that's okay. I think Memphis police would have done a great job, but they weren't even asked to. The south haven police department. They kick butt. I mean, they had it all, I mean, it was pretty impressive. The security setup they had. But the city council said we don't want him here. They said, we would provide, as a matter of fact, I called him out on it. Some guy named JB smiley, but he's always got a frown on this. I'm about to say it's not a very fitting name. And some guy named martavius, what's his face? Nobody cares about his last name. He's a loser. So anyway, you got these two black city council, guys. And they're bashing Trump saying we don't want to provide him security. And so I called him out, grace baker, on social media. And I said, well, okay, fine. What about Obama? Well, of course we would provide security for Obama. If Obama came to town. I'd say so it's about race. All right, I just want to make sure we're all on the record there. I'm pretty sure it was all crickets after that.

President Trump Alludes to Running for Office at Weekend Rallies

"Trump came to the mid south and just had a great time. I was so proud of our audience, Kwan, the mighty 9 90, and many of you came by to say hello, hundreds, hundreds of our listeners came by. It was a sold out crowd, by the way. I was talking to the organizers. The local media in Memphis, there are a bunch of woke leftists, and they were talking about how, oh, they're hardly any people here, and they were taking photos of the empty seats. Well, yeah, because it was early in the morning. But by the time Trump showed up, the plants, the place was packed to the rafters, and it was a great, great event. And I am curious because the president on Friday was in Nashville, speaking at the road to the majority conference, which by the way, I had a chance to speak at was great crowd there, met a lot of our a lot of our listeners in Nashville. And really all across America at that rally, and I'll get to that. Again, it's a busy weekend, folks. But anyway, a Trump at that rally in Nashville and then Trump again in south haven, Mississippi. Told people hinted very strongly that he's going to be running for reelection. And the crowd went nuts. And I was very impressed with the enthusiasm of the people in that auditorium in that arena in south haven, Mississippi. Because to the person they all want this, they all went Donald Trump to run again. I mean, it's almost as if he is already running for The White House.

"Single item at regular price can not be combined with any other offer. All right, so the Memphis Grizzlies are on a tear right now. They have been on a tear for the past little bit. They are 19 and 5 since December 1st. I went through, you know, we're not totally sure who the playoff teams are, but 15 of those against perceived playoff teams. Third in the west behind Golden State in Phoenix. What in the world is clicking for Memphis right now? I mean, everything, right? They're probably the biggest story in the NBA, I would think. And we figured we are a young players podcast pretty much all their success is powered by young players. So let's talk about their whole team. They're relevant to us. We'll be the 50th podcast talk about the grizzlies. Hopefully we can put our own unique spin on it. But yeah, they've been dominant. It's been interesting because they've had John one, then ja went out for a while. They still kept wanting. They're just winning almost regardless of who's out there. It's pretty incredible. What did you think about the conversations that I know we briefly touched on it? I know how I feel about this, but what did you think about the John morant? They played better with jot without jaw for that brief time. What did you make of that conversation? I think the important point to make is sometimes when a team elevates like this, we want to give all the success credit one player because we're such a star driven league. So it's easy to look at because I've always said the most relevant stats, it always comes back to points per game and wins and losses. So when you score a lot of points on a team that wins a lot of games, you get all the credit for it. And I don't necessarily think it means all that much that they won without job. So they were ten and two without them. What it tells you is it's not just jaw. This is a team wide rise. And I think if you're a Memphis fan, that's the most encouraging part, is that it isn't just one player. It's three and four and 5 young players all rolling together at the same time. That's a nice segue to something that's interesting about this Memphis group. Now we can go down the itemized player by player development discussion that I want to do that quickly, but something about their culture that you and I talked about that was interesting and relevant kind of jutting off of the cam reddish thing that's relevant is how they go about Memphis is a team that over the past few years has had some picks. They've used the picks pretty pretty phenomenally. I think we could agree on that. And what was it you texted me the other day about how they choose their personnel. What do you think just from afar? I don't have any more speculating about speculating about this. I don't know anything specific. What is it about they pick players do you think that's showing up in the product this soon? That's already working this soon. Is there anything that jumps out to you? I think when you look at the players they draft and I really do think sometimes we make things more complicated than they actually are. And what Memphis does really well is there's obviously this very long conversation that goes back to 20 years now. I test versus stats, analytics for scouts, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But Memphis does, as they say, if you're a really good player, you should leave some kind of statistical impact on the game at the college level. It might not be the statistics that necessarily points rebounds, steals assists. But there should be some inkling on the court that you're impacting the game. And they're not just going to draft the guy based on his stats, but they're going to use stats to help themselves find players. So not to get too far down into a rabbit hole. But the guys like Brandon Clark, the Anthony Melton, Desmond Bain, these are all late first round picks early second round picks. They were all advanced stats darlings in college. And what they all had in common was they lacked the ideal physical dimensions that teams look for. Brandon Clark is 6 foot 8, really more of a center. The Anthony mountain's 6 foot two, more of a shooting guard. These don't necessarily fit your prototypical dimensions. Desmond. 6 foot four very short arms. So those guys lack the statistical things teams look for. What Memphis says not statistical. They like the physical traits. Memphis said, hey, yes, they might lack certain things, but they all suffer certain advantages that they have in the court. Clark phenomenal athlete. Desmond Bain phenomenal shooter. The Anthony mountain really, really smart player. And that allows them to have an impact on the game more than their physical tools might suggest. So we're just going to grab them. And I think what makes Memphis so interesting is you go up and down their roster. They have like 13 good players. 14 good players. It's that depth. When guys go out, they just keep rolling. And then there's guys like, John kancha. He was an advanced stats darling. He's a 6 foot 5 post player from where Fort Wayne or something. Fort Wayne. And he basically, if there was a guy who had crazy advanced stats numbers in college, but NBA scouts wrote him off. He probably wound up in Memphis. Yeah, I think that's very true. Now they do have a couple freaks. Darren Jackson junior was yet 6 11 with 7 foot 6 wingspan, ten inch hands, ten by ten inch hands. I mean, he's just a physical freak I want to talk more about him. But I think something else that I've noticed too is that there is a sort of commonality between these players and their ability to create disruption defensively. Now they're all like smart. I do think that they have a collection of pretty smart players in my opinion, but they have a lot of guys who can create disruption in the form of live ball turnovers. And we can see that because this is the number two in the league and deflections first and fast break points. And the other thing too, is that a lot of these players stylistically I've noticed that Memphis really embraces the middle game. They not just pull up jumpers, but they embrace the floater game. No team is shooting as many floaters as they do. Brandon Clark is incredible at it. John morant's incredible at it. They have a lot of guys who like to take that shot. But the defense is key. I think the floater thing is important. Here's why the photo thing is important. Because the Memphis lives at the intersection of guys who impact the game efficiently without ideal physical tools and that intersection exists, a lot of those guys use floaters because the floater allows you to play bigger than what you are. So I don't think that necessary target guys use floaters a lot. But if you use a floater, if you're not someone with ideal physical tools, you should probably have a floater in your game. And that's why Brandon Clark is a good example of the floater and how powerful it can be for an undersized big man..

"Rachel said on the morning of june fifth that they eventually walked outside to wait for the police. There were times before emergency personnel. Got there when they didn't know where nor was and nor was the last to exit the house when the emergency personnel arrived so we can read. That is saying nora. Had a chance to put that basket over her mother's head. And what do we know about that sort of thing in a murder. It's a personal thing. Yes usually someone that the killer cares about or is a shame to have killed and they don't wanna have to look at their face. Cover it up. So there's another red flag so the memphis crime scene investigation unit arrived at the scene around five forty five in the morning. Crime scene tape had not been put up yet but by six thirty. Am it was officer. David who is the head of the csi team arrived at five. Forty five in the morning and left at three o'clock in the afternoon he documented in his crime scene logged at twenty. Two people entered the house so payment. I walked the perimeter of the residents and noticed what appeared to be blood and glass on the kitchen floor as well as possible blood on the front porch lawyer front door and living room. Floors blood had soaked the sheets and pillows. On jennifer's bed and blood was spattered on the closet door next to her body smeared on the wall by the light switch and pulled on the floor under and surrounding the body so bloodbath officer payment requested that special equipment and three additional officers be dispatched to the scene. The csi unit and police requested that the medical examiner in particular. The blood spattered expert come out and evaluate the scene but no one from the emmys office ever came in an attempt to lift in preserved bloody footprints in the hallway. The csi unit use chemical products. They had not used before and more importantly had not been trained to use. Csi team also used a crime site imager which was a noninvasive body fluid fingerprint detection device. They used it throughout the house. But no fingerprints. With rich details we detected so maybe the same doesn't work as well as it should have or maybe the people didn't know how to use it. Well it's suggested that they didn't know what they were doing with it while it's gotta be fingerprints in the house and people live there well and you have to wonder then about wiping things down in my mind. Can't wipe much down. Well i don't know it wasn't a clean house. There was stuff everywhere. Yeah so there's not a lot of smooth surfaces. I'm just saying it would be impossible to totally wiped the house down so that there's no fingerprints at all. Oh sure you're probably right with that. But in addition to taking over two hundred photos of the scene and attempting to lift the bloody footprints the csi unit documented and collected physical evidence from the scene including a pair of gold sandals. Found in the foyer by the front door to drinking glasses located on the kitchen counter. A knife block found in the kitchen with three empty knife slots one knife found by the kitchen sink. Another knife found farther on the kitchen counter beneath a golf club and a third knife was also collected from the scene so above club during on the kitchen counter. Yeah i know was her blood on the close at one of the murder weapons. Nope there was no bludgeoning that they knew of broker could have been from an earlier. Argument may be defense. "I wanted to start the beginning here. Who was lorenzen wright. Lorenzo right was memphis tennessee. Anyone who knew him they all say the same thing that he kind of embodied. What the city of memphis was all about each chose to stay in memphis To play college ball and the city religious fell in love with them. Who's just an honor to play for is team. Because he has a great basketball tradition. He played two years at the university of memphis and then declared for the one thousand nine hundred ninety six nba draft challenge for the best best ball this momentum and went on to have a not a superstar career in the nba but a solid one. When you mentioned the city of memphis lisa and the ethos and the personality that city embodied and lorenzen embodying that what does that mean well to find out like you really have to talk to people who are from memphis and another one of memphis. "Reasons why this case was very controversial is due to the hastily selected suspects dubbed the west memphis three as ryan previously discussed these boys at the time. were targeted based on their appearances and their lifestyles and unethically obtained confession. From jesse miskelly led a storm led to a storm of court appearances in media frenzy that lasted for years. After many years of the west memphis three being held responsible for the murders multiple private investigators and individual activists conducted their own investigations to find out what really happened. This lead to a breakout of new evidence and suspects that had been considered suspicious and one who had never even been questioned by the police despite being close to the victims and even having a possible motive for the murders. So let's get started. There's a lot of fire here to like. There's a whole lot of possible suspects that the police just completely and totally didn't even talk to or completely overlooked even though there was like an abundance of reasons why they should be looking at them. It's it's a very strange thing that they they did hear. It shows how they they. Purposefully made this such any easy hidden hidden. Be done with it. Like close the case where good. We got the kid that we don't like any way. Yeah now we can finally put them down on something. We're we're dealing with three kids that live trailer parks. I'm with you a little bit here. And i'll tell you kind of very briefly. What i think their their motive here was. I think that they got. They got trapped. I think that early on they pinpoint pinpointed. These kids. it was a very high profile case. And i think any mistake or misstep was going to be analysed to death and i think what they did. tell me all right let's talk about the the corona virus here in the mid south we will give you the numbers here off of the top and you've got some other news here as well in the state of Tennessee four thousand six hundred thirty four positive test at this time in Shelby County now where it has topped one thousand positive test in the in the county by the way out of those four thousand six hundred and thirty four positive tests that's out of almost sixty thousand total tests over fifty five thousand have tested negative now in the state of Tennessee let's talk about it I I some of the the counties the numbers in the counties for a the positive tests here within the state he in in Fayette County in Tennessee those numbers at twenty five positives tutored in fifty three negatives in Shelby County one thousand six positive tests four thousand seven hundred and twenty seven negatives listing twenty fatalities at this time and then in Tipton county thirty nine test three hundred and after hearing that CD thirty nine positive three hundred seventy negatives so almost a ten to one ratio of no two ES on those in Mississippi in the state of Mississippi two thousand two hundred and sixty cases one hundred and fifty of those positive tests are in desoto county twenty six in Lafayette there in the Oxford area twenty one in Pinellas county nineteen and Tate forty one in Tampa seventeen in tunica county was seventy six fatalities in the state over Alton and ninety four in the Tennessee in Arkansas one thousand one hundred forty six positive tests for the corona virus seventy seven of those in Crittenden county but again as you've heard them admits they use these numbers loosely when it comes to fatalities and that if somebody was let's say for instance if somebody was was killed in a burglary and then in the autopsy there they find out that they had corona virus it's listed on the desktop get that they've got coronaviruses considered a corona virus related deaths so take that for what it's worth let's take a moment yesterday president trump addressed the media for his daily briefing regarding the corona virus the task force and and some of the things that are going on let's check in and take a moment to listen to some of the snippets from yesterday with president trump we passed a two million test completed in the United States first time most anywhere in the country it's a milestone for our country is a milestone anywhere nobody's done anywhere close or suggest a highly sophisticated and highly accurate not only as the virus inflicted immense physical suffering that many people but also mental and emotional suffering as well even though we're staying physically apart no American is alone and we're all in this together the deal is different from the standpoint that production will be lower but we have a deal was a sign deal it's a deal that say that one of the worst deals that we've ever had was after one of the worst trade deals ever made by any country anywhere will be terminating that and the new deal is a great deal for our country Boris Johnson prime minister has been moved out of intensive care that's a tremendous statement and we continue to pray for him and his fast recovery that's a very very positive development as president trump from yesterday some notes about how things have been going on we've got one other quick snippet from him as well and this is regarding hydroxy chloride you know what Cllr o'quinn hydroxy Karoq when that's I think that's what it is anyway he announces that companies producing the anti malaria drugs he's been promoting as a treatment for crying of ours are speeding up production here's a snippet on that the companies that manufacture hydroxy Clark when are massively ramping up production as you know many people are recommending strongly Zee pac be added the Z. pack and also zinc and the federal government continues to build our stockpiles and distributed millions of doses for doctors to use as they see fit president goes on to say states like Michigan will receive large quantities of the drugs very soon Memphis.

"At Tulsa enter university of Memphis Tigers will be they're trying to win two in a row now Tigers continuing with that win last night over Cincinnati and that was a Biggie I mean that was a huge win for the university of Memphis last night's also we should be thankful as well because the Memphis Grizzlies continuing to look fantastic job Moran who is expected to play participate in all star weekend should be I should be playing in that rookie sophomore game he's not expected to participate in the dunk contest however just a reminder that they're taking it easy not trying to over work game risk injury especially after landing him at the number two spot the Grizzlies were wondering if they were even going to be able to get a lottery pick and sure enough they struck gold with that second pick in John Marantz in credible sh man what a blessing for the university of Memphis Tigers are not diverse in Memphis the Memphis Grizzlies plan same building it's definitely a totally different game for sure also in the news this morning let's talk a little bit about a little bit if you other things this morning we talked about the athletes that could be getting paid soon according to a state legislator Brian Kelsey he's going to try to push that through the state legislature also in the news G. A. heart away says you know wants with all of that road rage that was going down last year you know we had about three dozen of highway or interstate shooting see said you know what it's time to get a key got to got to toughen up got to toughen up the game for sure and try to have some stricter laws on the books because apparently some of the gang members had been shooting no will some of the loopholes in the law were able to get really off with just some probation which is a which is a wow it seems like if you're gonna do that that seems like that does not fit the crime J. hardly says it's essentially domestic terrorism what's going on on our roadways with the way that people are a firing their weapons the way they did last year member we had operation grizzly bear dial with the Shelby County sheriff's office the Tennessee highway patrol involves trying to help out but it seems to no avail still have plenty of shootings last year it did seem to slow it down at least for a little bit but if you are member that was about the time that Ben Ferguson started doing his heinous crime report every week day right off the top of the show it for clock man oh man yeah G. A. heart away definitely is he he's definitely try to take a step then in a little bit of a direction where folks can maybe feel a little bit safer on the roadways yeah we'll see if that passes there I think that's gonna get bipartisan support though where it would upgrade some of the punishments for folks that would commit these crimes I mean you had truck drivers getting shot acts just Hey you basically vehicles of all shapes and sizes I don't know if it was some part of initiation offers mistaken identity I think some of us just just just pure I can get away with it for the thrill of it it's amazing what people will there the lack of respect incredible incredible man oh man not this morning news it is seven twenty seven twenty one and we have we have about a minute or so let's go to the phone line this morning and say good morning to our friend Mr engine parts in your hands how are you Hey good morning this is a hello well it sounded like Andrew but that is not injured we will put them on hold will talk to them coming up at the break for sure coming up a little bit later on we got on this day in history we've also got Jeff right well coming up at seven thirty five we've got Abin brown coming up at seven forty five on Memphis morning news and we're looking for two I have in a conversation window all of them and that should be coming up quite soon right here on this very radio station hot we got thirty eight degrees are gonna get up to around fifty a little bit later on with a little bit of rain fall out there and yeah we'll have that full forecast coming up in just a moment right here on six hundred W. R. E. C. and Tigers are gonna be looking to put a weapon on Cincinnati hopefully at the Tigers have righted the ship another was a two game losing streak this app that'll Sunday hopefully now things are turning for the better we can help that will be the we hope that will be the case coming up for the university of Memphis Tigers all right let's talk about a little bit about some other news out there that it looks like the house representative may take over the articles of impeachment today will follow that and fox news radio will have that throughout the day as well now we eight it still may not be the case today but they're saying today may be the first time that there's a better chance that they will then they won't in other news according to The Washington Post president trump will transfer another seven point two billion dollars from Pentagon accounts this year to build the promise border wall according to The Washington Post this at the present would uses national emergency powers to divert that money in Pentagon funding for border wall construction five times what Congress authorized him to spend on the project in the twenty twenty budget Pentagon funds would be extracted for the second year in a row for military construction projects and counter narcotics funding according the plans the funding would give the government enough money to complete a total of approximately eight hundred and nine eight eight hundred eighty five miles of new fencing by spring of twenty twenty two which is more than the five hundred mah nine miles they have slated for the US border with Mexico the transfer if not blocked by Congress of the courts would bump up his border spending to eighteen point four billion dollars I guess we'll have to keep an eye on the border jobs also use diplomacy to build some agreements with Mexico and some other central American countries that may allow border officials return nearly all migrants to Central America without allowing them to file for asylum even if they travel from Africa or India the legal agreements will bump up wages for blue collar Americans in this particular case other news this morning we told you about the the woman charged DIY work for the bus company but then we have the story and this is in Memphis in will as well as a police call a registered sex offender running down the street with his pants down investigators say a woman had called nine one one after spotting a Rico Marion outside her eleven year old daughter's room can you imagine how frightening that had to be she tried to take a photo of him when her flash went off it started the guy he ran still on his pants down top three able to catch him has he not seen the billboards pull your pants up I guess not my goodness he's expected to be in court tomorrow and he will be fully dressed so that's good news in other news this morning people are just crazy sometimes Jerry this is not a lieutenant governor of Mississippi has already toured parts of north Mississippi Delbert hose men spent yesterday morning looking at some of the damage from behind from the left behind from Saturday's two tornadoes any of one and a half to also some straight line winds over two hundred homes are estimated to have been damaged by the storms comes at an interesting time as they have a trade off in power is Phil Bryant says good bye today and Tate Reeves says hello as the next governor of the state of Mississippi a lot of clean up I see it on social media to a lot of people still have a lot of stuff to do out there and please be where that you're gonna have scammers coming out there offering to help with some work and want you to pay them up front and we've had rain the Hutchinson on before and he has said time and time again don't get scams see a legitimate company may want a small down payment but they're not gonna ask for a large chunk or all of that in advance nor should they just be where please enter out trying to get stuff done on your property Memphis.

"Memphis morning news it is six forty six and we have a temperature of forty degrees we have to fifty live it later on today my only talk about some of the night eight o'clock taking on two lane pre game will be at seven o'clock and we can't wait to get back on the basketball courts not Tigers eleven in one search engine from the court too I guess the Kocsis we're just weeks away from Iowa caucuses joining us this morning author founders revolution in political analysts Michael law joining us one last time here in twenty nineteen and then I guess it's game on for twenty twenty but for the Democrats you know it seems like there's a big question mark right now what's going on Michael good morning good morning to you for having me great to have you back on yeah what's what is going on that really is that is the question I mean you have too many candidates in the rain and none of them none of a more exact great so I think it's going to be Hey we're going to really understand where hall the candidates are at not in not in the next month or so but in the next really in the next three months since we have three fourths of the delegates that will be awarded awarded by the end of March and if there isn't I think if there isn't clear front runner fight then we may very well see a brokered convention that would be that would be pretty interesting that bring some interest to it is it you know I see the S. N. Biden still up there course Sanders and Warren for some reason in my gut it just feels like this could be a redo of twenty sixteen where they just throw all the super delegates to Biden and Bernie Sanders is like okay but what yeah Bernie Sanders all went down that road before and he was not thrilled with that so I think you would actually see a little bit more of a fight than just at this time around the new with the that you did last time around he's speaking against the Clinton machine he didn't have much choice there but by that might be a little bit different however either one of those two choices the they're currently at the top who would be would be a disaster for the Democrats the I don't I really don't think that either one of those has any kind of a tense against president trump particularly with Sanders being have socialistic if he is and that doesn't sit well I think with a lot of Democrats blue dog Democrats and of course with the biting you're gonna see trump tear him apart to especially with hunter Biden and and that this whole impeachment thing that went on over the last mantra that those would be the worst choice of the bank and it really is interesting that it could come down to a a a brokered convention at this point because it it does not from the surface seem like that there is one candidate that could be trump I mean heck two hundred and thirty people in the house of representatives can't beat trump so how are they gonna find one at this particular time it is an interesting dilemma for them yeah and and and one that nobody is really talking about yet and I I think actually you would stand the best chance in the regular vote is actually Michael Bloomberg not simply because he has the finances and the ability to can make it and and enough name recognition and he has of course of Bloomberg news that he can used to benefit to help him to win but I don't know if the Democrats so much like him but and my opinion I think he would be the best choice against president trump up there looking for somebody who could possibly be president trump Michael long joining us on Memphis morning news course almost kind of quiet up on Capitol Hill right now just simply because they're in recess for another week or so but it your gut feeling I would suspect would be that they're a impeachments not gonna get fast track no I don't think so pulls it doesn't want to do anything with impeachment because she knows the outcome like they did in the in the house and that outcome she should already know but she doesn't want to throw her hat in the ring as far as playing the game until she knows that she can win and that's never gonna happen yeah yeah so it's a I I can't believe twenty twenties actually here we've been talking about it for top three and a half years in twenty twenty comes in less than forty eight hours Michael we wish you know your friends and family a very happy new year and look forward to getting more of your insight to as things really get for real here in the coming months thanks so much again Michael you're welcome have a happy new year and let's hope twenty twenty is a year of more for you then I hear yeah absolutely met this morning news it.

"Memphis morning news it is seven forty five we got a temperature of thirty four a wind chill of twenty four it is at a little bit of flurry activity out there as well no surprise a high temperature only thirty nine for today city council will meet today and the term if they're going to add seven or eight Bucks a month trash feed to keep from letting go up to three hundred employees and limiting your trash to basically one pick up per month and also you may be experiencing a rate hike from emoji W. soon incremental increases on the different services which would be spread out until twenty twenty two sh man man oh man it is a it's a could be a time where you get them separated for more money in your wallet we'll talk to give Khan right about that tomorrow following the city council meeting today which would be a little bit later on also in the news by the way Grizzlies when again last night they moved to ten and seventeen pick up a win over the Miami Heat and they are a just a couple of games out of the last playoff spot at this point twenty seven games in about a third of the way through the season and I know that their ten and seventeen but they're a couple games they probably could have won and just lost late in the fourth quarter it's not a bad grizzly steam not bad at all also in the news a house fire in Memphis in Cooper young area this is caused by lightning strike yesterday morning over Peabody near Cooper several thousand dollars of damage that's a strong storm tornado damage and counted cross parts of Mississippi Alabama we did not catch the brunt of that yesterday thankfully all right joining us now is the host the been Ferguson showed catching every weekday at four o'clock right here well then I guess tomorrow old breathlessly awaiting air the nation will be for the articles of impeachment and whatever else they're going to be going on I know the the house Judiciary Committee just finished up on I guess whatever rules they're going to go over yeah it's going to be the rest the rest impeachment and that's exactly what the plan is there going to hurry up and do this go and check every box that along the way and make sure that the members of the Democratic Party don't have the option to leave town without impeaching the president then they can you know make sure that they don't have more people to fact and not present in the new polls are out it's a big swing in there was a poll simple the came out so Levin point swing and the last two weeks of people that were in favor of impeachment you are no longer in favor of impeachment are among independent it's four and a half points overall nationwide but in swing states the numbers are significant in swing states and so I think what you're saying now is Democrats realize they made a mistake and their chart hurry up and see the mistake through I guess to put it behind them so that may be it's forgotten in time for the twenty twenty election is that the font no because it looked when you've got a big civil war this growing within the Democratic Party right now and that is look Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and Jerry Nadler and Steve Cohen for example these types of Democrats they are in districts where they're not having to worry about losing their job because of impeachment what the problem is and and it seems like in leadership the only one that really realized this is Nancy Pelosi but she also wants to make sure that she stops because I house she is is trying to figure out how do you do this without losing these other member these other people like I said they don't care I mean you know if you impeach Donald Trump it's a personal you know then data for Steve Cohen he hates him you hate him since day one anyone to stick it to the man he's in a district where you can do are irresponsible partisan hack relax yes or a cute you know which is what this really is literally overthrowing the will the people because what his mentality is I don't care about trump's orders because I don't represent the misty color does not represent you if you're concerned that if he doesn't listen to you if you're a Republican he doesn't listen to you if you voted for Donald Trump so he doesn't care that he alienates you because in his district he can do that what with the Democrats have done those and lefties other Democrats literally let them hang out to dry and it's it's pretty pathetic then Ferguson joining us on the show this morning and I guess they're supposed to be a Democrat debate Thursday night but I was talking with tiny J. powers a few moments ago and that may not even go down due to a worker strike there in the area yeah which is in that ironic yes don't you thank I mean it's it's hysterical those strike would make you not have a debate it would be an embarrassment but it's a match and if this happened in a Republican debate it would be wall to wall news coverage I'm sure the Democrats will you know just kind of in the media will just kind of overshadow it and do the bare minimum reporting act like it never happened yeah Ben Ferguson joining us on the on the program what else you gonna be touching on look at later on today yeah I think we'll be talking about this the politics of these poll numbers are errors interesting that come out while this talk about that one of the crime report as well as for Clark with some of the crimes committed in which you get it on this really cool weather as well all right then all right get a few flurries this morning thanks for getting up and have a Cup of coffee with us and we will look for this afternoon at four o'clock presaging thanks for the truck you're saying I mean there's been version follow him had been Ferguson show right here on six hundred W. R. C. in ninety two point one FM get him on Twitter and die you can be up to date Oct city council meeting today will find out a little bit more on potential hikes on trash and also light gas and water tiger basketball this Saturday at noon that's the tipoff against Jackson state at FedEx forum the pre game will be at eleven we'll have it right here on the home of your tiger seven fifty two thirty four degrees and some flurries here's traffic with heather good morning right now it's still a delayed due to an earlier right how much about two forty just east.

"At seven thirty two right here on Memphis morning news it's six thirty five let's turn our attention to. well let's turn our attention on maybe having a little more time to ourselves joining us this morning is specialist on data privacy doctor Edward Peters doctor Peters thank you for joining me in Memphis how are you. why are you doing I'm sure rific at least once or twice a day I get a text. ed front and it looks like I don't know is it called a robo taxed at the from from something or somebody telling me I have won something or they have a great deal for me and it is annoying as all get out it just happens happens at all hours of the day. yes one forty we're all victims of these these days these are actually called believe it or not Beijing as opposed to fishing which were fraudulent emails sent out to try to get your information. change is actually the same concept but by messages and and many times I mean this is really just another form of cyber fraud okay now. how did they do they get our numbers the same way as spammers. our miserable callers. they do the same way you know anytime that you entered it someplace you could have entered it for a lottery online or given your number out or something they get it from there and then that wallet the legal they will use that to try to rob basically scan your information all right and I would assume that some money play either trying to get us to hand over information directly or to see as you said scams out of information to somehow sell that data I guess to somewhere else. yes all photos and the most dangerous ones are the ones that tell you there's been a problem with an account and you need to check right now to someplace and then once if you do that then of course you've now entered the game and they will start asking you for more information and try to get you to actually do something or give them access to an account we'll buy they can start to either don't you know download money from your account or or anything of that nature so it's it's a very serious situation so it's more than just an annoyance it can snowball pretty quickly are are there any remedies is there anything we can do other than simply ignore and I guess another part of the question is are the are the big cell phone companies are they aware of this and then can they do anything. what makes yeah as a matter of fact the best thing you can do is. first of all never reply. secondly if you actually copy that and forward it to seven seven two six which is out which is a free of charge you know spam reporting live from that all the major carriers. the next thing you could do is actually reported to the FTC themselves if you go to the website the F. T. C. complaint is that all of that will will help you start to. build the case to get rid of these things and now there are legitimate cases where you may have signed up for that a baby at your up for an account that you waste with your bank or maybe it's something where they Bob your pharmacy where you're going to get you know notifications about Medicaid today well and the key is to really understand which one do you decided to allow.

"Of Memphis a school he had no plans to attend but allowed him to go through the tour without any pressure he was able to ask questions as they came to him to see things that interested him and that experience eventually helped him to be better prepared and also as well for the ten colleges that we visited with him so yeah this is a great example of again bring it back to trying just really have some fun with it as well. since the school so that. lower the pressure our next emails from Tom listen to us in Vancouver he's asking why do some cruise lines and tour operators charges supplemental for solo travel I'm single and can't always ask a friend to travel with me to help you save money is there a way around this unfair policy well Tom merry and I have some thoughts on this and we also asked our producer Valerie to look into it a merry where you wanna start well she did a great job helping us research this I know you really can't get around get around it if you see it and it exists however what you can do a solo demographic is much of a solo traveller demographic is much larger these days it's a lot easier travel companies have gotten on board with enticing solo travelers and that market so you'll find cruise companies that will waive that single supplement fee you'll find tour companies willing to waive that you know you have to do your research sometimes you have to be willing to travel kind of last minute you may have to be willing to travel shoulder season if you can only travel in the summer and you want to get around that you definitely have to do your research but it is possible more and more today travel companies are beginning to really anti so what I I know. they certainly want to attract a saloon travelers we talk about that but some other companies out there that are not affiliated with the intrepid travels one classic journeys another we've had Bruce Poon tip on with G. adventures they do a nice job with it I can take it now that's going to be for a younger audience but I think you might be somebody will yeah intrepid has a lot of solo travelers and again you may pay with them sometimes a single supplement fee but much lower fees they have and if you're willing to have a roommate you don't pay anything on the older side our country walkers will be another crazy thing extractions so you don't have a roommate yeah we've got more emails I think we're gonna hold those will do more next week folks of please keep sending them to us at our end world travel dot com and we will get to those are for sure right now I want to thank Tom and Lisa further questions today you can send us your travel questions or comments or stories.

"Associate editor of the Memphis business journal, our friend Megan Nichols. Megan. Thanks for joining us. How are you? A hope you are thawing out like the rest of us doing well. Good morning guys. Yeah. It's great to have you back on the program. Okay. Big announcement from Electrolux that seems to be making all the headlines what's going on with Electrolux? Yeah. So this is certainly the big headline. Yesterday was news that the Electrolux Memphis plan is going to be closing in twenty twenty so at its peak plant employed more than a thousand people currently has about five hundred and thirty employees locally, but the company is apparently consolidating its cooking products appliances business to Springfield, Tennessee. And it's going to be reinvesting in that plant Electrolux has previously stated how about ten percent of its North America revenue came from a Sears, essentially, so Sears bankruptcy has certainly had a negative impact. But Electrolux received a significant amount of incentives for its Memphis facility. So still lots of questions that need to be answered. But there were apparently not clawback provision for those incentives. So currently the state in Shelby county remain on the hook for a lot of that original investment to get them here. Now, meghan. I know what a clawback is. But for those that may not know in our audience. What does it clawback when it comes to a pilot? So essentially, it's if they were to leave before the pilot wants to expire, there'd be some provision where the incentives, and they might have to pay back where they then send it to be called off. So you kind of it's a safety net for our investment. But that was not in that contract. No, we're going to have to wait and see on this one. Oh, I wonder if that was a cut and paste wonder about that Meghan Nichols associated or the Memphis business journal joining us this morning. Other big company news FedEx retirement age. I changed their. Yes. So there's two kind of things that came from the board of directors this week with FedEx, I other notable news was Dave bronze Accu the president CEO. Fedex just was elected to the company's board of directors. So that decision is effective immediately. But the board also announced changes to the company's corporate government guidelines so previously. There was a mandatory retirement age for seventy five years old now that age requirement only applies to nonmanagement directors. Fred Smith is currently seventy four years old. So that's the adjustment in that rule. It'd be yeah. It'd be kind of weird to boot the founder of the company. Yeah. Meghan Clark tower getting a new tenant. Yeah. So little headquarter relocation news true. Temper sports is getting ready to move its headquarters to Clark tower. So true temper, which is one of the leading manufacturers of golf shafts is currently headquartered out and turnament drive in Southwind, but they're going to be moving to Clark tower in east Memphis, the company said they wanted to be in the heart of the city, rather than the suburbs. And that's kind of a larger plan to grow their local employees account by fifteen to twenty percent in the next couple of years. They wanted to space it would help attract some new talent. So that's supposed to be built out this spring, and they'll be moving in shortly after that. So I guess a warning into be careful for folks over at the Lenny's and over at the vitamin Shoppe and Home Depot if they start testing drivers on top Clark tower could be a problem across right? Four five six seven and eight you're hitting it off a Clark tower. Megan Nichols, the associated or Memphis business journal checking in with us this morning, Pyros one of my favorite pizza places in town. They've they branch out to not just hot food but cold to.
