"AP sports I'm Josh rowntree. We start on the NBA where Memphis took a game over Dallas with multiple stars sidelined. Correspondent Robert Stevens has more. Desmond baines scored 23 points as the Memphis Grizzlies completed a two game sweep of the Dallas Mavericks, one O four 88. Naz played without Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving both injured while the grizzlies were again without John morant. Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins says his team up this defensive intensity in the second half. Come out of halftime with just a renewed energy and mentality. Hey, we got to raise our level both sides of the floor. We made a couple adjustments defensively that paid off for us, which got us going with our groove on offense. And obviously that third quarter kind of changed the game. David roddy and Dylan Brooks had 19 apiece from Memphis while Jaden hardy led the Mavs with 28. Josh green at 23. Bob Stevens Dallas. In Houston, the rockets knocked off the Celtics one 11 one O 9. And jabari Smith scored 24 to lead the young rockets, one of the best teams in the league, where it was in the finals last year, you know, just competing with him. You know, going down to the wire like that with a great team like that. It's just real promise in this room. It's really good for us. The bucks beat the kings one 33, one 24. Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 46 in the win. The warriors took down the sun's one 23 one 12 behind 38 points from Klay Thompson, including 33 in the first half. On the ice, buffalo scored three third period goals rallying to beat Toronto four three. Alex tuck at the 30 goal mark with a pair in the final frame. We kind of got back to just trying to work and make simple plays and you know I just roll over one line after another after another and it makes a huge difference out there and big news in the opening day of NFL free agency. The Raiders reportedly filled their QB void by agreeing to terms with former 49er. Jimmy Garoppolo on a three year deal worth, 67 and a half $1 million. "Red now to rob wood fork. The wizards have won the first half of their three game home stand after beating the Memphis Grizzlies one O two 92, west on cell junior said it wasn't our prettiest effort. You know, let's tell us some nice second out of the back to back. But those type of games you just have to find a way to gut it out. The results the most important piece. There were some mistakes. There were a flurry of turnovers. Some of them were untimely, but we were able to get enough stops late, making a plays on offense to just keep the bay, but I'll take the win. That was propelled by their best three point shooting effort of the season going 19 of 40 from deep in a game without Bradley Beal or John morant for Memphis. The capitals took a 6 three beating and Tampa Bay as Darcy Kemper was pulled after giving up four goals on 9 shots in the first period. The caps would steady behind Charlie lindgren in net and third period goals from Lars Eller and garnet Hathaway but the damage was already done. Better news and local college hoops, George Mason survived an early scare from American pulling away for a 73 56 victory. Howard routed gallaudet one O 8 50 60 even their record at two and two and Virginia tech blew out William and Mary to improve to three. "The wizards right now. They are without Bradley Beal and still leading the Memphis Grizzlies by a score of 27 21 as we are in the second quarter at Capital One arena and the bench has been bad in this game, especially in the first quarter, going over 6 from the floor. There are only two points coming from Daniel gafford's inefficient two for 6 from the foul line and the leading score in the game so far, Monte Morris and thank goodness for M three for three, including one from three point range. She has 7 points to lead the wizards, but the defense handling business as the grizzlies are shooting just 34% from the floor including only one of 7 from three point range. Capital's hockey coming up at the top of the hour down in Tampa Bay is the lightning squad they just beat Friday night on home ice or hosting them this time around coach Kevin McCarthy. You play your team back to back. There's always something that carries over from the previous game and especially the way the game went tonight was physical on both sides and why you'd be expect that again and we've got to make sure that we're going to that rink and prepared to battle the same way we were prepared tonight. And McCarthy at the helm tonight while Peter laviolette is in COVID protocol, NFL week ten, Philly closes it out tomorrow nights, but today's action has the cowboys leading the packers 21 14 this one late in the third quarter, the Raiders back in front of the surprisingly competitive colts right now 20 to 19 that one early in the fourth quarter. Sunday Night football in San Francisco between the forty-niners and chargers out west, but the game we wish was on tonight is the one that was the one that everybody's talking about from earlier today. The Minnesota Vikings coming back from 17 down they beat the bills in Buffalo 33 30 in an overtime thriller so they are 8 and one on the local college hardwood, the 17th ranked Maryland women started the day with an 83 76 victory over fordham. They're now two in one, and on the men's side, Howard and George Mason win in blowouts, rob woodwork, WTO sports

Joey Sulipeck Investigated for Tweet Against Draymond Green
"Let's talk about Joey solo pack. Now, you know Joey, you were a meteorologist, your weather guy here in the Memphis area for a very long time before switching over and doing the right thing and coming to radio. Exactly. Exactly. I knew joy for I've known Joey for over 20 years. We did not work at the same station, but I would see him at conferences. I would see him locally and he's always been professional. He's the kind of guy that will walk up and ask you and know, you know, your family's name, how they're doing. He's the kind of guy that you want in the market. So he's a good guy. Very much so. So he's a big Memphis Grizzlies fan, and of course, there was a lot going on. It was a pretty tense rivalry between the warriors and the grizzlies. And he wrote a tweet. Yes, he did. And this goes all the way back to May 7th, and this was when the grizzlies were in the second round against the Golden State Warriors and draymond green is a troublemaker on the court. He runs his mouth a lot, he'll push, he'll nudge whatever he can to get an advantage. And one of the grizzlies players had just gotten ejected for the first time that they had mouthed off to the official. Joy writes, chew on this, draymond runs his knuckle dragging open mouth all game long, but mild mannered, Kyle Anderson disputes one call and gets ejected. Next level, Jack assery. That's it. So basically, he was saying the guy's a Neanderthal. Yes, okay. All right. Well, well, the local sports guy for the commercial appeal. Got ahold of that tweet and turned it into this big racial controversy that literally went nationwide. Everybody was talking about poor Joey solo pet who in the aftermath apologized. He should not have apologized. He did nothing wrong, and then deleted his account, he should not have done that. He did nothing wrong.

"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason yes, I was talking about the new logo for Vanderbilt university, but they got me thinking about other logo questions I've had recently. Watching a lot of the NCAA tournament this year don't know why particularly. And I've noticed every uniform has multiple logos on them now. The NASCAR you got logos all over the uniform. Everybody's used to that. In the NBA, we now have one corporate sponsor, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been good year because they're nearby. A lot of teams have different sponsors. I think FedEx is on the Memphis Grizzlies uniforms. But this year in the NCAA, you've got the NCAA logo. You've got the logo of the manufacturing company, whether it's Nike or Adidas or whoever is making the uniform. And then you've got the American flag or some kind of logo on there. And one of the schools, I think, has their 75th anniversary logo. And then you've got the team conference logo. So you've got four logos right about the stirrup area and all these uniforms. And I got to wonder why. And what's next? Advertising logos on these uniforms? I understand wanting to brand a school, but I don't understand why the NCAA needs their logo on the uniform. I'm not making a lot of sense to me. The American flag logo, wonderful idea, but do we really need that?

sports update I'm telling Rogers This is masters in business with Barry riddles on Bloomberg radio My extra special guest this week is Michelle sites She is the chairman and chief executive officer of Russell investments The firm manages over $331 billion with an additional 2.8 trillion under advisement they trade over $2.6 trillion in equities a year They are the 6th largest manager in the world half of their revenues comes from outside of the United States Michelle cites is a member of all the usual lists most powerful women in finance the power 100 most influential women in U.S. finance Michelle sites welcome to Bloomberg Barry thank you very much for having me My pleasure So let me jump to my first question So you spent about 21 years at William Blair tell us a little bit about how you got into the finance industry Sure sure Well going back I decided early on that it was what I wanted to do So before I applied to colleges I decided that I wanted to go into business And that was a cumulative impact of several things like many people in life influenced by my parents first my father was very influential in my formative years but especially as it revolved around business and dealing with people He was a second generation entrepreneur And from the age of 12 I worked by his side after school on the weekends During summer and he really was quite impactful And how I decided to pursue a degree in which college to go to On the flip side my mother was very influential And I would say more from the standpoint of the impact I wanted to have and kind of I guess I would say control for financial stability She worked very hard but it was a long and difficult path for her My parents divorced when I was young And so I just I saw firsthand the need to leverage people's hard work and drive them toward financial security And so I wanted to master money I guess is the best the best way to phrase it So I read all those money master books by I think it was John train Buffett shareholder letters et cetera but I was just fascinated with the miracle of compound interest and the like and that's when I decided that investing was what I wanted to do So that set me on my trajectory early on and before I even set off for college So the first I don't know if I should call it half but certainly the first part of your career you're on the asset management side you eventually rise to the leadership of William Blair and now you serve as CEO of Russell investments how did managing assets and being part of a larger corporate entity help prepare you for your present leadership role That's a really good question especially the way you phrase it Not many people ask me about the similarities or the leverage From being an investor to being a leader So that's a poignant question because I think there are strong similarities First of all I would say that just what energizes me aligns to the role both the investing role as well as the leadership role And so I would say that solving solving problems energizes me trying to figure out what the root cause problems are and making sure that there's a level of human connection that makes the work meaningful Inspires me And so I think that just as a touchstone that's been critically important both to being able to be a lifelong learner as an investor but also as a leader in a people and knowledge worker industry The second the second thing I would say is that as a p.m. as an investor where I was most additive to my peer discussions I do believe investing as a team sport and you make each other better by coming at problem solving and deposit with investing with different perspectives And mine was that I was a very structured and strategic thinker I could do the analyst role and the modeling role but it didn't excite me as much As digging into the problem that a company was solving for and how was it creating a durable sustainable franchise that was frankly some large way additive to society and filling a societal need And so that was really what I enjoyed And it aligns very much with being a CEO as well And so I think that part was very important I think also just being data driven and your decision making but being very understanding of how important people and teams are whether they be management teams for the companies that you're investing in or the culture of an organization or the ability to execute on a strategic plan all has to be with a very strong people component and a desire and understanding of the import of human connection And I think that as an investor as well as a leader I've hopefully been able to marry those two in a very real way Really quite interesting Coming up we continue our conversation.

"Like the top players in the league is like a totally different conversation than what's actually going to happen. But morant in year three has we were talking about the way this team was built. Do you think that there are any, I've heard some kind of commonalities between I said this scene reminds me of like kind of the 1415 warriors in it's a young not in terms of I don't think that they're going to accomplish what the warriors did. I don't think so. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but they remind me that it's a hater John needs Kyle. He needs to be a negative energy. I'd love to motivate you, Jo, go ahead, put that on your billboard, however you get it down here, Baltimore. But in terms of a team that is ahead of schedule, but it also just that it's a team that they're league has looked at them and thought, well, they don't necessarily fit our ideas of what a traditional star driven team would do in the past. It's like a cohesive unit that does something really well. You brought up another team though that they remind you of. Yeah, to me, they're less still warriors and they're more the suns. Like with jaws Nash, not that these are all and if these are always a very rough comparisons, right? For sure. I looked at them like they're at their best when they have Jared at the 5. They're spraying the core and running. So he's kind of like the Amari type jaws Nash. And I think what's going to be key for them to go back where time up before is that wing defense is Deshawn Marian type. Do they have enough wing defense from Clark from Brooks? And I think it's possible ultimately, they have to use Jaron in that role. As your wing stopper. I think that might be kind of the ceiling for this team. Could you start game planning out if they play the Lakers in a series? Who's actually going to guard LeBron James? They play the Mavs in a series who's actually going to guard Luka Dončić. Well, that's the thing to throw at him. Yeah, I mean, they have a bunch of good team defenders too, which is interesting like Kyle Anderson I was telling you that he just is so what a luxury to have like a guy who is a converted point guard who's 6 foot 9 that you can just plug in there. And a shot that just defies everything in my basketball DNA. The way he shoots, I just can never, ever get used to it. But quickly before we do that, I think what I'm kind of talking about too with the team thing is like, those teams all sort of like predated like a paradigm shift in the NBA. I've wondered a little bit if the rule changes have benefited Memphis like mentality and style of plagues we've talked about. They love to defend. They defend as a team. They're smart. I don't know that. I don't know how often you're going to see a paradigm shift like you saw in like 14, 15 with the warriors that people didn't see and it caused mass mis evaluation of players. I don't know if we're seeing that, but Memphis does seem like they're on to something with how they accrue talent. Quickly, I want to jump through Desmond Bain. Most improved player what do you think about that as a related to that? Sure. I had given most improved player to second year players because they're supposed to improve. That pisses some people off when you say that I felt the same way. When Luca made that jump to MVP level, I was like, well, yeah, he was right there. I don't know. That's a funny irritates people when you say that. I say it too, so I know. Most improved to me is kind of a made up award anyway. It's kind of like a low key disk, because that means you used to be really bad and now you're good or something. I never liked that award. I always thought it was reserved for people who were like, coming from off the radar a little bit and they jumped onto a path that we didn't expect. Because you know what else every player is going to say. I was always this good. I asked to get the opportunity. Like a 100% they're all going to say that. Yeah. Bane, bane this year, I think we saw some of the playmaking, those things are going to come in time. I think we saw those in summer league a little bit of the regular season a little bit different. I think Kyle just give them the stats. Bane has had a massive jump statistically this year. Well, yeah, in terms of his counting stats, he's way up. I mean, he's got he went from 9.2 last year to 17.7 this year, and he's up to 2.4 assists as a defender. He's basically up to close to a plus defender. I mean, we've sung his phrases a hundred times a 100 million times on here. I mean, he's a great relocating shooter. He can and if he's going to be able to hit those dribble pull ups, that's another wrinkle that you can throw in there. I think he's a pretty underrated passer, honestly. But I think more like creating and getting to the rim, his size, because he's not like a super explosive athlete, physical driver, but doesn't get over the ram, things like that. I love bane, but yeah, anything else you want to add on Bain before we move on? I mean, you look at Desmond Bain. You get the success he's had as the number 30 pick. And then it's like, man, Boston was at 14, and they drafted Aaron nee Smith. For the exact same role and you said, okay, Memphis got a much better player 16 picks later. That to me says, whoever in the Memphis front offices, I expect they're gonna start going around the league. I'd expect some guys from that front office to get GM job was pretty soon. Because what they've done top to bottom speaks for itself. Yeah, it's kind of you see like a ripple effect from innovative thinking. You know, we saw that with more, maybe maybe we'll see that from this Memphis how they're approaching things for sure. Just some other guys that I wanted to just bounce around talk here a little bit about. You talked about Stephen Adams kind of finding his groove again..

"Single item at regular price can not be combined with any other offer. All right, so the Memphis Grizzlies are on a tear right now. They have been on a tear for the past little bit. They are 19 and 5 since December 1st. I went through, you know, we're not totally sure who the playoff teams are, but 15 of those against perceived playoff teams. Third in the west behind Golden State in Phoenix. What in the world is clicking for Memphis right now? I mean, everything, right? They're probably the biggest story in the NBA, I would think. And we figured we are a young players podcast pretty much all their success is powered by young players. So let's talk about their whole team. They're relevant to us. We'll be the 50th podcast talk about the grizzlies. Hopefully we can put our own unique spin on it. But yeah, they've been dominant. It's been interesting because they've had John one, then ja went out for a while. They still kept wanting. They're just winning almost regardless of who's out there. It's pretty incredible. What did you think about the conversations that I know we briefly touched on it? I know how I feel about this, but what did you think about the John morant? They played better with jot without jaw for that brief time. What did you make of that conversation? I think the important point to make is sometimes when a team elevates like this, we want to give all the success credit one player because we're such a star driven league. So it's easy to look at because I've always said the most relevant stats, it always comes back to points per game and wins and losses. So when you score a lot of points on a team that wins a lot of games, you get all the credit for it. And I don't necessarily think it means all that much that they won without job. So they were ten and two without them. What it tells you is it's not just jaw. This is a team wide rise. And I think if you're a Memphis fan, that's the most encouraging part, is that it isn't just one player. It's three and four and 5 young players all rolling together at the same time. That's a nice segue to something that's interesting about this Memphis group. Now we can go down the itemized player by player development discussion that I want to do that quickly, but something about their culture that you and I talked about that was interesting and relevant kind of jutting off of the cam reddish thing that's relevant is how they go about Memphis is a team that over the past few years has had some picks. They've used the picks pretty pretty phenomenally. I think we could agree on that. And what was it you texted me the other day about how they choose their personnel. What do you think just from afar? I don't have any more speculating about speculating about this. I don't know anything specific. What is it about they pick players do you think that's showing up in the product this soon? That's already working this soon. Is there anything that jumps out to you? I think when you look at the players they draft and I really do think sometimes we make things more complicated than they actually are. And what Memphis does really well is there's obviously this very long conversation that goes back to 20 years now. I test versus stats, analytics for scouts, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But Memphis does, as they say, if you're a really good player, you should leave some kind of statistical impact on the game at the college level. It might not be the statistics that necessarily points rebounds, steals assists. But there should be some inkling on the court that you're impacting the game. And they're not just going to draft the guy based on his stats, but they're going to use stats to help themselves find players. So not to get too far down into a rabbit hole. But the guys like Brandon Clark, the Anthony Melton, Desmond Bain, these are all late first round picks early second round picks. They were all advanced stats darlings in college. And what they all had in common was they lacked the ideal physical dimensions that teams look for. Brandon Clark is 6 foot 8, really more of a center. The Anthony mountain's 6 foot two, more of a shooting guard. These don't necessarily fit your prototypical dimensions. Desmond. 6 foot four very short arms. So those guys lack the statistical things teams look for. What Memphis says not statistical. They like the physical traits. Memphis said, hey, yes, they might lack certain things, but they all suffer certain advantages that they have in the court. Clark phenomenal athlete. Desmond Bain phenomenal shooter. The Anthony mountain really, really smart player. And that allows them to have an impact on the game more than their physical tools might suggest. So we're just going to grab them. And I think what makes Memphis so interesting is you go up and down their roster. They have like 13 good players. 14 good players. It's that depth. When guys go out, they just keep rolling. And then there's guys like, John kancha. He was an advanced stats darling. He's a 6 foot 5 post player from where Fort Wayne or something. Fort Wayne. And he basically, if there was a guy who had crazy advanced stats numbers in college, but NBA scouts wrote him off. He probably wound up in Memphis. Yeah, I think that's very true. Now they do have a couple freaks. Darren Jackson junior was yet 6 11 with 7 foot 6 wingspan, ten inch hands, ten by ten inch hands. I mean, he's just a physical freak I want to talk more about him. But I think something else that I've noticed too is that there is a sort of commonality between these players and their ability to create disruption defensively. Now they're all like smart. I do think that they have a collection of pretty smart players in my opinion, but they have a lot of guys who can create disruption in the form of live ball turnovers. And we can see that because this is the number two in the league and deflections first and fast break points. And the other thing too, is that a lot of these players stylistically I've noticed that Memphis really embraces the middle game. They not just pull up jumpers, but they embrace the floater game. No team is shooting as many floaters as they do. Brandon Clark is incredible at it. John morant's incredible at it. They have a lot of guys who like to take that shot. But the defense is key. I think the floater thing is important. Here's why the photo thing is important. Because the Memphis lives at the intersection of guys who impact the game efficiently without ideal physical tools and that intersection exists, a lot of those guys use floaters because the floater allows you to play bigger than what you are. So I don't think that necessary target guys use floaters a lot. But if you use a floater, if you're not someone with ideal physical tools, you should probably have a floater in your game. And that's why Brandon Clark is a good example of the floater and how powerful it can be for an undersized big man..

"There and I know that Knox has struggled with confidence issues forever. I don't know whether or not he's going to be able to like flesh out with Atlanta or if they're even planning on keeping him. They may not be, do you expect the Knicks to get anything serious? Do you expect him to address their concerns at all in the short term or the relatively short term? I would say to double back, I wouldn't frame it as they're trading reddish for Knox. They're trading reddish for a future draft pick. And Knox is the best salary balancer. I don't necessarily think they're really looking at Knox as a potential piece for them in Atlanta. And I think you're right, they all went red. It is interesting reddish Knox and Zaire Williams, who the gross took at number ten this year's draft all went at number ten or I think Knox number 9 actually. But the reason that's going on is because at a certain point in the lottery, all the surefire picks are gone. And in the same spot in all three drafts, the teams are like, you know what? This is a very tall, athletic wing with a good jump shot, effort. Let's just take them now at some point the talent, let's just gamble on the talent and see what happens. And that's what all three teams have done. It'll be really interesting to see what happens with cam in New York because my big thing with cam is so the story is that cam went in Travis lank, the hawks GM talked about this to the media after the trade. He said, before the start of last this season, reddish said, I'd like a bigger role. And if I can't get one here, I would like to be traded. And then schlenk said, okay, and he immediately began trying to see, can I get a first round pick back for reddish? And this gets back into what I was saying about, I don't think the hawks could win this trade. Because what happened was the hawks of rath at this very talented young player who was a very high opinion of himself, and who wants a bigger role. The problem is he's not earned one. And I think that is the camera's problem right now because if you're going to ask for a big old bigger role, you have to succeed in the role you're in now. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense. And his three years in Atlanta, cam has never been a positive player. They've always been better with him off the floor than on the floor. And he's never been an efficient player. Where do you think he's hurting them though? Where do you think that the inefficiencies are coming from? Because I think that's the crux of the issue here. What's going on is he's taking a lot of shots and not making them, and he's gambling on defense constantly. It's a pretty basic stuff. And it's funny, right? You were saying in this era, maybe, but ultimately, the problem with camera, I just like, it's so simple, it's almost stupid. He takes a lot of shots and doesn't make them very efficient. Doesn't make a lot of them. And he gambles on defense constantly and doesn't justify his gambles. So then he goes into the hawks GM's office and says, I want a bigger role and he's schlank is like, well, why? I'm going to take away shots from Bogdanovich or Trae Young or Kevin herder. These are proven players who are better than you now. I'm going to give them a smaller role so you can because you think you're a top player will prove it on the court. And I think where I look at with cam, I would say the reverse, we're talking about these guys in the late lottery. What cam should be thinking of as miles bridges? And miles bridges, he's a guy who was drafted number 12 year before cam. Now in his fourth year, he might be an all star this year, and you look at his progression, he always succeeded in a smaller role. So the hornets kept giving him a bigger and bigger role every year. They said you are succeeding, we do believe in you. We're going to expand your role. Whereas cam is more, we know you have talent, so we'll give you a chance to play. But you're not really justifying getting a bigger role even though you want one. It's an interesting thing. Some of this is kind of like reading into who these people are just as people. What is ultimately, would it even have been the best thing for slink to give reddish that much? Give him that opportunity without proving it. Like you talked about. So it's like there's maybe a maturation thing going on. And maybe he's on this path. You said something interesting to me over text just about he's one of those two or three teams from now type guys. And he's in his early 20s still. What is he? 21, 22. 22, he's, it might take him a while to realize that. But I personally have more confidence in players who demonstrate what you were talking about. And that's something that comes up over and over again and I feel like on our draft discussions is when we look at. And I think it ties into the team that we're getting ready to talk about in the way that they evaluate. I'm really pointing my notebook like a head coach right now. But I'm going to roll it up like Joe B I think it might take a little while for reddish. I don't know that heading to, I don't know that heading to New York. I don't know that he's going to alleviate alleviate the issues and the concerns that they have in the short term. I could be totally wrong about that. One thing I will say about reddish is he's a big game player. We've seen him show up. I kind of have expected him to get traded during the off season..

"Folks, I can confirm to you that basketball indeed is very good and it's a chilly but a pleasant day to talk about it. My name is Jay Kyle Mann and welcome to upside high. The show where we zoom in on the youth movement in the NBA and the NBA draft, all the things that come before that, and I'm joined per usual by my co host, the lothario of the lone state, mister Jonathan sharks, sharks, how are you doing, buddy? I like that. Kyle, you've always got good vocab, so I appreciate it. Basketball is really good. I'm still recovering from my cowboys losing in the playoffs, so. Hate football. I'm not like an NFL person. I kind of like observed misery from afar, which was pretty amusing for me. I mean, just like the ubiquitousness of it across social media is just are you like a lifetime where you like one of those Emmitt Smith Troy Aikman did you cut your teeth on those cowboys teams or do you go that far back? For sure. I mean, I'm from Dallas, so I'll always support the cowboys, but I absolutely hate the team. And it's just a weird thing. They make you miserable, huh? For sure. You're obviously like a die hard longhorns guy too. So that's basketball is your first love, right? Definitely, yeah. Definitely. Well, today we're gonna be talking about a team and a player a couple players that got swapped. So the first thing that we're going to hit on is camera Edison, and then we're going to talk more about the grizzlies and their stars and things like that. But I want to talk about this reddish trade. I feel like it raised eyebrows more than this type of trade really. I don't know. I guess any time like a hot lottery picks get swapped for each other. At first, I kind of observed the reaction of Knicks fans was initially was elation, was that kind of what was your observation of the way this trade went down just off who did you think one just at a glance from a start? I don't think the winning framework is the right way to look at a trade like this, which we can get into. I just think that sometimes is kind of limiting, right? I think ultimately reddish was not going to work in Atlanta. So they had to trade him. And whether or not he worked somewhere else, it's almost immaterial to them. So I don't think they could necessarily win the trade, but they couldn't win having him around either. I think it's probably first off, let's talk about cam reddish a bit and why he's probably a bigger deal in a lot of basketball circles than maybe his NBA production might initially suggest. Well, he has been, first of all, I would want to say, too, that the Knicks, I think the Knicks initially felt like they got like it was a big time coup for them. I think, because they felt like they got rid of a guy that wasn't playing for God that is playing. But reddish, I think this ties into what you're talking about here is that reddish for a long time and we discussed some of this in like the ringer slack and we were talking. There's always talk about camera radish on Twitter all over the place. He has this like something something about his game about the way he looks about the way he's built about his gate that really allures people into his upside as a player. And yet going into that college season the 2018 19 season with Zion and RJ Barrett or is it 1718? I think it was 1819 now. But there was some thought that he was going to be like a top three pick that he was going to be like a really true that kind of special player. And some of his warts came out during that college season, some of the where did he actually end up going? I don't have that in front of me. He wasn't three. Yeah, okay. So they're both players picked at ten swap for each other. What do you think it is about him that is so alluring? Because it's definitely there. What is it about cam reddish that it's going to give people keep them taking chances on him? I love how you're acting like it's so mysterious. His feminine allure. It's really simple. He's freaking huge. He's 6 foot 8 two 20. So right there, that's one of the bigger wings in the league. He moves really, really well for a guy his size. I think that's more what it is. Less of the size. I think it's the second thing you said. Well, it's a combination of size and speed. And then he's got a good-looking jump shot. And then he was the exact same size at 18. And as usual, you did not really give the background, so I'll give it for the people. So the background is, cam reddish was seen as a top player in his high school class for a long time. Because he was so big, he was such a good shooter and he was so fluid. Everyone said, this guy's a future star. Everyone knew who he was at like 15 years old. And what happened was he commits to dupe first and he's thinking I'm gonna be the next Jayson Tatum, jabari Parker, Brandon Ingram, big star duke wing comes to top two pick. And then RJ Barrett and then Zion committed to duke as well. And when that happens, it pushes cam all the way down the pecking order to number three. And so then duke in that one year at duke, cam's playing off RJ and Zion, not really doing very much, very inconsistent, but then he has this flashes. It's like, man, he's so big, that jump shot looks so good. What happens when he puts it all together? Maybe in the NBA, it'll be the same. He'll get a bigger role. And then he'll really show his star potential. Everyone's always thought he's had. And then he gets to the NBA and basically the same thing happens again, where he's playing off Trae Young. He's behind Deandre hunter, who the hawks drafted in the same draft. And number four, and he's never really getting that lead role. And he's always kind of tantalizing. And that's kind of where he still is, like, four years later, is people see the talent and they're waiting for their production to come around. Yeah, it's interesting to go and read if you read like talent evaluators from the time you read. I think people were just seeing this upside of like you said, big wing fluid they expect him to kind of put it together. I kind of feel like he's maybe playing in the wrong era a little bit for like his body type, like he's he strikes me as somebody that if he had played like in the 2000s in the early 2000s, he probably would have, it would have been fine in a time when basketball was a little bit different, but it's interesting that we talked about Kevin Knox, being traded for him. Honestly, it's funny that Zaire Kevin Knox and reddish all three are like these big wings. Zayre's less skilled and reddish, but it's interesting that they all kind of similar challenges. They're very skinny. They're very tall, but creating for themselves off the bounce, and then expanding to anything beyond scoring for themselves has been like a challenge. Reddish though I think that we had some work done for us on the ringer about who what really are the Knicks getting in this situation. To me, I think that they're getting a more aggressive and more like hyper confident version of what Kevin Knox was, hypothetically, you know, like he's, he really is going to jump in.

"It is Friday. But I'm going to talk about that in just a minute. Exactly why we're going live on a Friday slight date change we're going to have for the next few weeks. But a lot to talk about today, the Lakers made a trade. Marc Gasol shipped out sent to the Memphis Grizzlies, no longer a Laker. We're gonna talk about what that means how the deal went down. Why it structured the way it is, we'll talk a little bit about the open roster spot as well that has now created. That's right, another open roster spot. That means there is another move coming. So we'll break that down plus we'll talk about the rotation. What's going to happen from here in terms of the starting lineup with no mark Gasol? Lot to dive into tonight. So if you're coming in from YouTube from Facebook from periscope, welcome in and of course, if you're listening to the podcast version of this, make sure you do subscribe follow us on Spotify on Apple podcasts, wherever it is that you listen to a podcast. I'm already seeing the questions coming in from YouTube. Looks like I'm seeing some from Twitter as well. I always say periscope, but it's Twitter now. And from Facebook, oh, and somebody said NBA front office is fired. Thank you. Really appreciate it that you guys would give us those kind words Keith and I have been working really hard on the NBA front office show. And if you saw earlier today, Keith and I did a live stream for the NBA front office show to celebrate 10,000 subscribers over on YouTube, which is phenomenal. We are so thrilled, especially given that we just started up that channel. But tonight, tonight we're talking Lakers and again, normally we don't do Friday night shows, but here's the thing. There's a little something that's come back called the NFL and we haven't run into this before, where we've had the NBA off season going on at the same time as the NFL. And so with the big game happening last night between the cowboys and the Buccaneers decided that we would slide back one day and for the next few weeks until the preseason starts and that's when the show converts back into a postgame show..

"All right, I need to address this. Somebody said, Eric Bledsoe for kuzma. Oh, somebody said, they're not getting notifications for my videos. Well, you better check your notifications cuz this time of year, you really want to make sure that you've got notifications turned on Eric Bledsoe for Kyle kuzma. I think. Because we heard the, the, the I believe was Chris Haynes, who put out there with Eric Bledsoe is not going to stay with the Memphis Grizzlies, he's part of that Pelicans, trade sending blood. So Steven Adams and picks swapping the 17th pick for the 10. Pick going to the Memphis Grizzlies to the Grizzlies, pick up the ten pick they move up seven spots. It sounds like they may even try to move up from there. They also get the Lakers pick in in 2022 and there was a month swap in the second round as well. I think it was from 51° least jump up from 51 to 40. But anyway, in that scenario, where you've got all of those things taking place, I don't know that blood. So is a guy that's actually going to get retracted. I think he could get bought out see blood. So his contract is really interesting. He actually has next season under contract on the following year. He only has about four million dollars under contract and that's it. That's the only amount that's guaranteed them is non-guaranteed so Bledsoe home. If he really says, you know what, I don't want to be a Memphis Grizzly keysmith. And I outlined this earlier today. He says I really don't want to be a Memphis Grizzly. I'd like to be able to say where I'm going to page and Memphis doesn't feel like they can get something for him. Like teams aren't going to be willing to offer anything of value for him. They can say, well you know what, drop the the guaranteed money off of the second year contract for a million bucks. And let's do a bio. If that happens, Jason I didn't even say this. He's brought it up to me. And he said, I expect Eric Bledsoe to be a Laker if he gets bought out. Now, that's keeps opinion. But klutch Sports guy relationship with LeBron. James makes a lot of sense. And I think what Keith even brought up here, makes a lot of sense from the Lakers perspective. He said, would you rather have Eric Bledsoe on a minimum contract because he's been bought out, or would you rather have done a shrewder on a four-year contract? Paying him twenty million per season, I said blood, so on a minimum contract, you it's no. It's a no-brainer right now. Dennis Schroder in a nutshell, the better player, but in terms of contractually, that gives you so much more flexibility at the other positions that I would definitely lean towards Eric Bledsoe in that situation. So keep an eye on that, keep an eye on that..

"Think about this, By the way all the players that I mentioned there the herders the tray Young's. There's a couple of players who those are the only guys by the way, who are still active. Don't forget Grace and Allen. He was part of that draft class as well for the Memphis Grizzlies. So, too, is some kid named Luca. Don't it's hurting might be pretty good. So while we're focusing on a lot of the young players Don't forget this NBA postseason does have one particular vet who's making another name for himself in a postseason run, and he's yet to appear in an NBA finals in his history. His name is Chris Paul yesterday spoke with ESPN Radio's J. Williams and I asked him what has impressed him most about C P three's performance so far in the series with the Denver Nuggets. Well, first off, Kev. He's not Chris Paul. To me. He's not CP three, either. He's always been a point God and the more and more watch CP three play over the years, you know, he moves into the upper upper echelon category of the greatest point guards to ever play the game. I mean, look the past three games. 38 assists, two turnovers. I don't think people recognize how difficult it is to do have a game where you have 15 assists in zero turnovers, you know, granted with the Clippers. Doc Rivers, and that scenario turned into something else. I think they kind of went past their time. But he's always been a culture shifter, right? Like you could bring CP three into bad environments and due to his attack mentality and how he leads playing through injuries and things of that sort, like he is the perfect catalyst for this team, and he just continues to prove that night in and night out. I mean, the same team that last year I know they went eight on the bubble, but they were nowhere close to being in the playoffs. Now the finished with the second best In the NBA, not the Western Conference, the N B A and for him to play the way he's playing. He just he proves it and I did not out J in Games one and two after these games so far for the Denver Nuggets, Mike Malone has called his team soft and then he said they quit. Um, that's bad. What do you think of those words that, he says as his team returns home for Game three. I love when coaches are blunt and honest, and that's who Mike Malone is. I respect it. Is this team outmanned? Yes, they are. I think that is a rally cry from their head coach to their team That says, Look, nobody expected us to be in this position. Considering how depleted all roster was. Maybe we did other people. Canada's out, So we have to find that next gear defensively to lock in. But I gotta tell you, man, I don't think they're going to be able to. It doesn't matter what Mike Malone says when you start breaking down the sets that Mike Malone I mean, I'm sorry that Monty Williams is able to run with Phoenix. I mean, think about this. Chris Paul is a dominant pick and roll type of player. So was Devin Booker, the whole first part of the first year they were trying to deal with how how do they handle that? How do they take turns? The continuity that Monty Williams puts him in makes him so dynamic Because now they're both at a very high rate involved in so many ball screen being surrounded with Jae Crowder McKell bridges. What some of the shooters they have on the perimeter, combined with the versatility of aim. I'm sorry to say there's nothing dimmer can really do with that. Jay Williams part of my conversation yesterday. Jay returns on Monday with Keyshawn and Zubin. Start today with K. Jay Z weekday mornings, beginning at six there, followed by Green with my Greenberg until noon on.

Lakers Lose Anthony Davis To Injury, Game To Nuggets
"Hello Lakers Nation welcome and apparently our inttra went the way of Anthony Davis's Achilles because it was not was not there where I thought it was so welcome and guys to an impromptu show a little bit because just regular, you know, we thought we'd be talking about the game tonight, but Lakers vs. Nuggets, but the sense I get from Lakers fans is that we mostly want to talk about the injury to Anthony Davis's Achilles Smith and everything else. Frankly secondary joining me tonight is Gary Sheffield Junior. Welcome back Gary great great show too. Cuz a call back before man roughing night, and obviously everybody is kind of waiting and holding our breath until we get that MRI on 80s Achilles tomorrow. Yeah, and we're going to wait on this summer. I but I also want to put some emphasis on the fact that I would love if Anthony Davis could just get you know, just take a load off and take maybe two or three potential even a month and just give to make sure that this guy's ready to play because the way the Lakers are playing there are two headed monster if Anthony Davis is a ride. The Lakers are winning a title LeBron's not right. They're not winning a title. They can figure out the rest of these pieces in between jobs. But when Anthony Davis is going to be dealing with this type of injury, especially with an achilles' you don't want him to say. Yeah, it feels good enough. I think I can go. We want to make sure that Anthony Davis doesn't even have to worry about this type of boundary because it didn't even seem like he took significant contact for that to be reactivated and that goes to show you really how how rushed this injury was and it wasn't necessarily I wouldn't call it necessary. So right now the Lakers are in position there twenty one in seven. I mean, they're they've they've really earned the right to to give a t sometimes. So I'm hoping that they're really patient with this and they don't they don't just get too excited just cuz it feels that way. I can give something this team. I want him to take. Yeah, I mean, you know what, it feels like they weren't patient enough to begin with with this injury. And that was that was a concern for a lot of fans know I will say I was worried about it. Yeah, but then I saw Anthony Davis's quote after the last game against the Memphis Grizzlies, which was a win you put a 35 points. You look good looked explosive on a few place. So I felt a little better there, but then he also mentioned that yeah, it can get better with ranch, but I'm not trying to rest but then that kind of you know, some red flags. They're like, hey I can make this better if I just rest it, but I don't want to do that. But then he also threw in that the team doctors and everything are okay with him being out there and playing like they gave him the okay to be out there. So to me that that says that there wasn't a risk for more injury and I had dr. Edwin Porter's over here on the Lakers Nation YouTube channel, come on and say the same things say this isn't this doesn't put you at higher risk for tearing your

"Fourth radio CBS Sports Network, So we had a little difficulty. They're both of our friends, but just to wrap it up. You know what we're talking about with the wizard situation. And a change in protocol. Now why there's gonna be really tough for the n batik is because up until now, you know, if there were a couple of positive tests that would only impact the players to your staff, whatever. Who tested positive and they would still try to plow forward with a decimated roster. But as always, you could feel the team to go out there. You play what or lose it. It's it's not really Don't say it's not the NBA's concern. I don't know that it's their primary focus. Their focus is to just get through this season now, though, automatic three games stoppage. This is why the Memphis Grizzlies are playing for the next three games as per the report that's gonna change things a little bit that is going to change things in the embassy, which had so much Success with the bubble down in Orlando. They started too soon, bt they didn't have enough time to formulate a thorough plan for guys who aren't isolated and in a bubble and you know, I know that this is we all know it's about money, and you don't blame them because they re started the season so they could get those Christmas games in and everything else and you know they have to, you know, seek revenue right now, but at the same time Without a coherent plan, or at least they a contingency plans to their plan were seeing what we're seeing happened right now that this could get ugly. It really could from a schedule swines and let's not forget There's a lot of, um you know, players that are dealing with this personally. And Karl Anthony towns of someone. We talked about a couple weeks ago B team when his mother passed away, and he's got seven members who have the covert coronavirus. Seven members who have died from the coronavirus s. So how is he? No, it's probably an escape in a sense, but and these are the real things that the we're not talking about, because they're worried about the game's being played. Jaylen Brown Scores Career High 42 Points in Blowout Over Grizzlies
"Jaylen brown man. What a first half incredible twenty six points ends up with forty two career high. I mean what he's able to do it. We know what he's able to do and transition. But i love when he's going in half court set down the middle slicing through defenders. I mean that's the jail that makes you wait a minute. This guy can really really be. Explosive can be dangerous. Miami Marlins: Derek Jeter, Kim Ng make baseball history
"I want to start with What I mentioned in the update, and that is the hiring of Qiming as the new GM off the Miami Marlins. And just off the top before we get to the historical nature of this and what it means for North American professional sports, moving forward. Just it is interesting to me. You know? Inevitably, the Rockies and the Marlins will be linked. Both coming into the league together. Iraqis and Marlins or not rivals by any stretch of the imagination. It's certainly if you are Iraqis Fan and the Marlins do something good. And the Rockies. Don't You inevitably draw that line between each other. And for the longest time, even though the Miami the now Miami Marlins used to be Florida Marlins have been more successful or tasted Oldham. Its success more than the Iraqis have. For the most part, the Marlins have been one of the worst run organizations. In all of baseball. We all remember Jeffrey Loria. Would buy a championship. Did buy a championship. 97 When Edgar Renteria got that hit off of Jose Mesa and the world Syriza's Sold everybody off. Because the wage bill would have been too high. But through that, by selling off all those players, he ended up getting a lot of really talented young players. Josh Beckett, Juan Pierre Carl Pavano. And they We're able to go win a championship, and then they were all sold off. Couple of ownership changes later, a monstrosity of a stadium poor attendance. Fire sales seemingly every other year incomes Derek Jeter and we thought that it was going to be more of the same. How in the world Is Derek Jeter. Going to Be the And he's not He runs the Marlins that he has a money man behind him. That helped him get the deal done as much money is Derek Jeter has made throughout his career. He can't outright by a major league baseball team himself, so he has kind of a What Silent partner that kind of front him the money, But he's the face. He's the guy that is making all the decisions. And it's something that We really haven't seen too much. And North American pro sports. We've seen plenty become G m's even presidents. And I guess that might be Derek Jeter's technical title, but two Be The owner. Of a team like the true owner, not nine. Justin Timberlake buying Air Peyton Manning's wife, buying shares of the Memphis Grizzlies. Like it's his team. And then they promptly had a fire sale. After he took over. We thought, okay, same old Marlins. Quietly. They have become one of the more Progressive Four thinking which I guess are It basically means the same thing. Progressive four thinking. Competent. Organizations in baseball.
