Fangio's patience with Lock pays off in big win for Broncos

"Heavy victory monday broncos country. It's always happy when it's victory monday. The broncos taking care of business against the miami dolphins yesterday was just what the doctor ordered. Twenty two thirteen was called a complete team win by so many people starting with vic fangio and then working through the organization all of the players calling a team win. We'll hear from vic fangio here coming up whilst from a happy and relieved drew lock but the broncos dominate on defense six sacks the interception for justin simmons late in the game to seal the win ryan fitzpatrick in and relief at two of who had been knocked out and it was a bunch of people getting in on the act in terms of taxes. John williams with me read. It was bradley job. It was draymond jones. It was demarcus walker. They were all they were all in the mix so it was good to see a complete team effort yesterday. Special teams really. Good they neutralized yukimi grant the stud returner for miami and it kind of relations. You what you thought this team could be. I guess maybe reminds. Isn't the right word but indicate shows you what this team can be when everything comes together. I know that can be a big. If but coming off the effort against the raiders to come back home a team that six and three that had won five in a row to buy low playing great as a rookie and to completely baffle him. Stifle their offense. Just thirteen points are lone touchdown coming early on a really nice catch by devante parker but just a great great effort. And you're on the ground for one hundred eighty nine yards you. Get eighty four for melvin gordon. Plus two scores. Yes the fumbles. Concerning phillip lindsay make plays eighty two yards on sixteen carries. Actually were tied both at fifteen carries for eighty four yards until lindsey was dropped for a two yard loss late in the game and and that ended up being the the difference after the interception

"Getting ready for the Patriots without one player. Minus running back Melvin Gordon, who was arrested Tuesday night under suspicion of DUI inside of her driving 71 miles an hour in a 35 following his Kobe test Wednesday morning, head coach Rick Fangio sent Gordon home quarterback Drew lock on track to start at New England said he's going to be there for his running back. Of course upset, but we're also here for him. It's like having a brother that gets in trouble. You're not gonna passion for what he did. You're going to go pick him up and he changed his mind. "Excited about that interview, of course, the Chat Zac appreciate on short notice jumping on with us and we'll look to catch up with these soon. I appreciate a brady thanks. Zach. Stevens of DNV, our broncos great great reporter, Excellent Guy, follow him on twitter at Zack. It's Z. A. C. Z. Stevens DNV are that's his twitter handle follow it check out the latest broncos information I want to talk about this because this Melvin Gordon Dui thing has only brought the Philip Lindsay Gordon discussion back to the surface and I mean could there be a more disrespected guy from his own team in the NFL. Now, the Broncos didn't have to pay him right? They didn't have to pay Lindsey they had him for this year anyway. But. This is the same team that gave tacked on three million dollars to Chris Harris Junior last year when they knew he wasn't going to be a long-term. Bronco. They tacked on three million dollars for what reason? No I mean. You might as well just resign him at that point to a five year deal rather than just say we're going to give you three million dollars just because you're you they. Didn't have to do that. He was contracted he had to play otherwise he wouldn't get anything. So the broncos held all the all the cards so to speak, but instead they tack three million dollars onto his contract just just to play out the year in a losing year and I have to think the Broncos knew they were going to lose or maybe they believe Joe Flacco was truly in his prime. But if you're Philip Lindsey, you're seeing all this stuff happened. You're seeing Kareem Jackson brought in and given money on the defensive side you're seeing. Guys constantly paid around you and you have been the most consistent Bronco for two seasons. Yes coralline sutton probably jumped up as the best Bronco last year as far as offense. But Lindsay has been the most consistent. And then you see this today Melvin Gordon with a Dui. And it only gets worse I mean. Then you look at this situation say, wow, you gave this guy a two year sixteen, million dollar deal. He's you know he's not in his prime anymore he wasn't putting together I mean, the chargers were comfortable saying we're done. We're going with our own undrafted free agent in Austin Neck Ler we're going there. We're done with this guy nobody's. Boston down the doors to draw to sign him yet. The broncos do it when they already have their starting running back. So again, this whole thing is awful for so many reasons, but it it. Just reminds me how much the broncos screwed Philip Lindsey over in this situation and it's it's worse than that. Colfax. You've got the Dui he was also ticketed for speeding between twenty five and thirty nine miles per hour over the posted limit I. Don't know where you get that twenty, nine, twenty, five and thirty, nine there but he was in downtown Denver. And now he's got a court date set for November thirteenth but. This is a tough one man. The broncos said in a statement this morning, we're aware of the situation involving Melvin Gordon our organization has been in communication with him and is in the process of gathering more details more on this coming up next twenty, two minutes after the hour our power play sports poll question of the day. It's more of a issue related question. How do you feel about these Thursday night games? You're going to have four Thursday games on the schedule for the rams. Do you love it. Do you hate I personally kind of like it? "So That that would really depend but that's a great question. It'll be interesting to see. Well, any good news I saw one of your tweets I retweeted a few moments ago. But AJ boy noah fan I mean, are we going to get some good news on top of this? Horrible Wednesday? Yeah, and that is the Good News Hump Day present some good stuff that there were two good thing. Those are the two names that you mentioned. We know drew lock was going to practice. So him practicing is very good but not necessarily shock but those two names that you mentioned a Noah Fan practicing when I saw him practice last week he was going about fifteen percent I mean it was brutal. Watching him out on the field try to run. He was going so slow. So honestly I thought he was going to be out for another week or two having him back on the practice field today is huge that that is a huge sign not now I'm giving him a big odds of being able to play this weekend and then Aj boy I was expecting him to be out another couple of weeks. Now he his window to return from the injured reserve has started. So that means he can start practicing the Broncos don't have to take him off the I. R. Right now they can wait a couple of weeks but I very encouraging because I thought he was still a couple of weeks away. Now what we've seen in the past with VIC, Fangio. Though is after player has a substantial injury where. They miss a couple of weeks. They typically take two weeks of practicing before they actually play. So with no offense, the fact that he only one week I wouldn't be surprised to see him play this week with Aj a I wouldn't be surprised if he if he practices this week does not play this coming week but then it's back for the chiefs game I'm really excited to see him back in now that. Guy We talked about last week Zach was Michael OJ moody seeing him grow as rookie. I'm excited to see him still continue that process but you get already a proven cornerback out there along with Callahan suddenly a position that I kind of thought was a week position might be strong coming in. If once you can get him back. Yeah. Seriously, and then you actually have depth at the position because I love what I've seen from Devante boss beat the Broncos, sent a message to him like cutting him. Resigning him to the practice squad and last week I asked defensive coordinator at Donatello about that and he said he has just responded outstanding. They've been really really impressed with him. So it going from a position where you will really doubting the depth just a couple of weeks ago now to where you really love your starters, you're very competent in the group moving forward especially the young Guy Moody like you mentioned, and then you actually have death with there. Zach Stevens joining us from DNV. Our broncos. Zach kind of circling back to the whole running back thing. Obviously, this will be interesting to see how Philip Lindsey handles this both physically on the field but but mentally going forward I think we're all curious to see how he really feels about this organization. But isn't this another big moment for Royce Freeman I mean, we've we've we've seen him kind of pushed the side I mean he was one that was really forgotten about when you sign Melvin Gordon and we really haven't seen him use that much even when Lindsay's out is this presented unique opportunity for him especially when you want to try to run the ball because the patriots like to run. Those nickel and dime. So they'll be ready for the pass. It certainly does and the the Broncos it seemed like Royce going into training camp could be on the bubble, and then he established himself as a really good third option during training camp I was really impressed with him during camp, and since Philip Lindsay's been out these last couple of weeks, he's been the guy that stepped up to get. A lot of playing time he's played between twenty and forty percent of the offensive snaps filling in for for Melvin Gordon during that time but he really hasn't done much on the ground. He's gotten like one carry three Kerry's in four carries in the game. So for him to to show himself, he needs to step up and and really average more than two yards per carry i. Think that he has the last couple of games. So he's going to need to take some pressure off of Phil because Philip Lindsay said, his his turf toe is feeling one hundred percent right now. But I still imagine a guy after missing a month of football that they're going to want to slowly ease him back. So instead of seeing fill at maybe eighty percent of of the offensive snaps maybe. Seventy but you're going to need productive snaps from Roy. Stream being that guy who's going to get about thirty maybe even forty percent of the offensive snaps because you don't have other depth running back besides that Look Levante Bellamy who was also really impressive. Well, he's on the injured reserve now. So you have Jeremy Cox on the practice squad and that's it. So if you don't have Melvin Gordon, you are really relying on Philip Lindsay and Morris Friedman yeah no question about it. Now Zack I've looked at this before I don't have the information in front of me but what is Phillips contract look like and kind of a two part question do you see Lindsay being long-term Bronco? Well that is the million dollar question right now at I if he is a long-term Bronco I, don't believe it's going to be on the deal that he has right now because he he finishes out his rookie contract this year being the third year then the broncos could tender him for I. Believe Two more years being undrafted guy. So the broncos could happen on the cheap for the next. Two years, and then for a second round tender in three years for I guess in two years for you know three or four million dollars I don't see that sticking..

"Northern Colorado. Another edition of the whole show powered by energy rolling on and I had a plan for the start of this program but now breaking news big news usually changes that for us. So joining me on our I advantage hotline again for the second time. I've even announced him yet. They just know. Zach Stevens of dnb our. broncos joining us our broncos insider Zach my friend. They love you now they just. Love you. Wow. Wow. Pretty. Good on Monday because they got no love on. Man That was bigger than I could ever imagine. Yeah they they were a little sleepy from the weekend know. Kinda hung over on Monday feeling up to it but Wednesday, they start coming around they're getting excited for the weekend again. So they having you on. Man. I can only imagine what a Friday. We'll get maybe with more breaking news coming up if we get more stuff on Friday, we'll just get you back on start show again. Zach. My friend this was not the news broncos country wanted to see in a season. That's just. Decimated by injuries. The last thing you want is a Dui Melvin Gordon cited, for Dui, all this this could not have come. It never comes at a good time, but this could not have come at a worse time for the broncos. There's never a good time for this and especially right now and not only are the broncos won three but this was their bye week. This is when coaches are really nervous about something happening, and of course, you know put by weakened quotations but VIC Fangio gave the team three days off from Sunday to yesterday. He gave him off their back for practice today, and this is just what you absolutely can't afford end on top of that. Philip Lindsay is coming back from an injury. So it looks like he'll play which is good but I could imagine that the broncos wanted to ease him back in. So having Melvin. Gordon. There to be as one two punch would-be really good and then also drew if he plays you certainly want you're running backs to take a little bit of workload off your quarterback who's going to have a little. Bit. Sore, shoulder or let's say drew lock doesn't play this weekend starting ripping I for only his second time in the NFL. So you would definitely want good running a good one two punch with your running back then and I'm not saying that Melvin Gordon isn't going to play this weekend, but he wasn't practiced today. So that's not a good side. I can't imagine it, but we'll see but this is. This is so terrible in. So many situations first off, we haven't seen. We really haven't got a chance to see this Philip Lindsey Melvin Gordon thing take hold because Lindsey was hurt. So early on in the season so I thought Zach thought that was going to be a key to if you hope to win this game, you needed to be able to run the ball effectively you need to be. Able. To get that one, two punch but more than likely, not going to see that. Zach. One of the things you and I haven't talked about we didn't have you on the show in the off season. But how is Philip Lindsey I mean you get this news today but before all this, you sign Melvin Gordon is Lindsay going to be a long-term Bronco does he want to be a long-term Bronco? He wants to be respected and you know, of course, in the NFL respect comes in money and this season the Broncos were allowed to give him a new contract being an undrafted free agent. You can do that after your second year Philip Lindsey has two years. So the broncos could have paid him money. Now, I don't think Phillips ever expected eight million dollars this season because the Broncos have team control of him on the cheek for many more years to come. But you know they, they could have given him something. Instead the broncos turned around and they gave it million dollars per year to Melvin Gordon and and so there was a level of disrespect and Philip actually admitted that over the off season saying that at first he was frustrated in, didn't understand why why the team would do that and now of course, Phillip does everything right on and off the field and then this news coming down I bet it only makes him a little more perturbed. Yeah I mean you. See this and again this this move was so strange for so many reasons and again it just today adds to that because you have Lindsey, he's undrafted guy he's to me consistently for two seasons. He's your best weapon. Now Sutton had an amazing year last year but for two years he was you're consistent weapon and I feel like the Broncos have done the complete opposite as far as respecting this guy and showing him that they really care about I mean obviously he's in their own backyard they don't draft him they signed him as. An undrafted guy. So for so many reasons Zach, this move just continues to haunt the broncos in my opinion. Yeah. It really does and I mean everyone that was skeptical about the broncos Siding Melvin Gordon and then on top of that not giving Philip Lindsey a raise I mean all those people are coming out today and understandably so you know last year the broncos signed Kareem Jackson to a big deal and then he gets suspended the final two games of the season due to a a Dui as well. It looks like Melvin Gordon be facing something similar except under the new CBA a suspension for first time do you I is three games so if if He does get more than just charged with this and the NFL come down as a CB would say, well, he he'll be suspended at some point for three games and that I don't imagine that's going to happen before Sunday's game. So we're going to have to see how the Broncos and all this and if they decide that they're going to suspend him or have him not played this coming Sunday and so how would that Work Zach if the Broncos make that decision say all right we're not GONNA we're not GonNa let you play on Sunday, but the NFL hasn't made its ruling yet would that game count toward the NFL's ruling with attack more games on? that. That's a that's a great question. My guess is the the broncos would try to work that out with the NFL and I think the NFL has ruled both ways in the past on that. So That that would really depend but that's a great question. It'll be interesting to see. Well, any good news I saw one of your tweets I retweeted a few moments ago but aj boy noah fan I, mean, are we going to get some good news on top of this horrible Wednesday? "Melvin Gordon just got a Dui did and the Patriots may or may not have cam. Newton. So good luck job go ahead. Yeah. Let's. Let's start with the broncos because the story for the broncos. A number one is we'll drew lock play that's number one but the story for the broncos. was going to be what would the rotation look like with Melvin Gordon and Philip Lindsey now, the question becomes is Vic Fangio going to discipline Melvin Gordon. Normally the NFL waits until the investigation is over to hand out discipline for things like that but that doesn't prevent the team from doing so so let's see if it does Melvin Gordon get benched as you know the old college coach thing he said a quarter you know does he sit a half does exhibit game I don't know that's something we're going to have to research this week so I would bump up personally Philip Lindsay on my personal depth chart if I had him just on the hunch that big could move on. And and. Put Melvin disciplined him. Somehow they're not gonNA cut him but like disciplined him somehow.

"Little bit of a hybrid Miller. You're trying to win games, but you're in a little bit of a development. Also, like developing for the future, wanting these guys to get a lot of opportunities. And certainly we could make an argument. If you're talking about the top tier playmakers on your team. Jerry Judy's name has to come up in the top three. Especially with Noah fan out. And you give Philip Lindsay back and that's going to be good news, and we could probably throw him into that mix. Loved him. Patrick, and he like like we just said, building very nicely into the Courtland Sutton role. But I want to make the argument that maybe Juri Judi should get a little bit more love like you're not wrong about what His role is a wide receiver to on this team, But maybe you have to shift your paradigm now because the paradigm has been shifted. Well, yeah, I would try to get Alberto's and targets as well. You know, we're like that whole world athlete. I would try to just used to just to see Especially early. If it's me, we activate him. That's that's the guy I'm going to early. Nobody's got a tape on him. Let's use him in a different way than we've used anybody. So far, we'll run a player to form its gift like a tight end wheel, something we haven't done all year. And we'll get him the ball and see because if you could do that, then all of a sudden that defense is gonna pay attention that player right off the bat, and that frees back up because what you're seeing right now is the team's looking at this there said OK, we're looking tape hammers out fans out. Lindsay's gonna be back s O. Are we worried about Dijon? Probably not. Are we worried about Tyree? Cleveland haven't seen enough to be worried about him. Nobody's game plan for Fred Brown. So our Deonte Spencer so Where we taking away? Well, Bela Chick likes to take away your best weapon. What's he going to do? He's got takeaway Melvin Gordon, and then he's gonna try to take away 10, Patrick and Jerry Judy and so in order to free those guys up, the best thing that you could do is go to the unknown commodity early. And make them reevaluate their strategy. Make them think that you've gotta run three plays for Alcoa Alberto in your first nine place, and that's going to make them rethink their entire defensive strategy, especially if two of those plays were successful. What we talked about it last night, the opportunities to run with both running backs on the field. Something we saw in week one against the Titans, but have not had a chance to see a lot of because Royce Freeman and Melvin Gordon, I don't think so, In the same kind of fear into opposing defense. They don't I'd love to see the Broncos run some too tight, two back sets, but the net but out there who feel Lindsay in the slot running off jet motion and get counteraction going, Because if you get Jack Phil Lindsay running one way on the jab, and then you hand it off to Gordon going the other way, you're gonna catch defenders leading in one of those guys. If your quarterback reads it right, One of those quarter with those guys is going to get a big game going to bust someone I know. That and then with Gordon's physicality, and he's you know, I don't think he gets a lot of love for his elusiveness. But you, Khun get some guys to shake he does. He makes guys miss and he always falls forward. That's the other thing, too right? Always fell like, down or backwards. He always falls forgets that extra yard out of the play. It's massive, and I mean huge difference makes a huge difference, and you could tell it is a game of inches. It literally is a game of inches and Melvin Gordon falls for those inches. I just want to say one thing, though, and we were talking about Melvin Gordon or what it's worth. Is on pace to have more first downs than Philip Lindsay had last year when we come back, we're in here from Vic Fangio, Brett Rip and don't go anywhere. It's Broncos Country Tonight on Kono is ready when the I Heart radio app everywhere. Basketball is back and so is high sense of great season. "At least what they hope he brings is what they thought they were getting. When they signed him out of Boise State. He was an undrafted free agent. As you said, college free agent. He was the guy that played a lot of football in a Ah, good offense, the Boise State an NFL style of offense. He was very accurate with the ball and he was a student of the game was very smart. Now he's not the most physically talented guy. He's unimposing guy in terms terms of his size and stature. And so the Broncos tonight, I think have to hope that he can get them into and out of plays against good and bad looks that they can run the ball and that they can choose when Brett ripping is going to throw the ball and not have to get behind in the game and have Brett rip and throw the ball 40 plus times, I think at the end of the game if Rick and I are talking about reparative, Brett referring was something for 44. I would say right now, The Broncos are going to lose that game tonight in New Jersey's I welcome my partner, Rick Lewis. Ricky and I have talked about Brett rip in this week, of course, or certainly since he was named as the starting quarterback. What is you If you've done your homework for this game, we really haven't seen Brett ripping much. We saw him last year in the preseason, but what what would be realistic? Expectations for Broncos fans tonight. Well, the more homework I did, the more I liked Brett Rip in. Hey, started 49 games in college Davis you mentioned at Boise State. In a pro style offense. His strong suit is reading defenses. So as you said, he's got a very high football. Ike you tonight. I would expect the Broncos too. Goto aground in pound game run the football. This is the night you want to see Melvin Gordon, get over 100 yards rushing and let Brett rip and just kind of settle in and manage the game because he's so smart, hopefully Hey, won't turn the ball over. Just kind of be a game manager today make a throw when you have to, and rely on your high priced running back Melvin Gordon and see if you can run the ball. On the Jets here tonight. You know, you mention Melvin Gordon. And I think my guest is we haven't We haven't had Philip Lindsay officially ruled out of the game. My guess is he will not play tonight. Which leaves Ah. Melvin Gordon as the bell cow back. I mean to me, I think you're exactly right. I think you look at Melvin Gordon at the end of this night, and he's gotta have 20 Plus carries he's got. He's got to touch the ball 25 times in this game tonight, whether you handed to him or use him in the passing game on Melvin Gordon has been a really good pass receiver out of the backfield his entire career, so that would be A nice safe throw that Brett Ribbon could make. And this is a Melvin Gordon. This is your night. Tonight. You're in New York City. You gotta have a good game here tonight. Broncos definitely desperately need to win this game here tonight. We said that last week must win game, Dave. This is must win game 2.0. They have to win here in beat a Jets team that is floundering. Ah, lot of the players have been reported to have given up on the coach. Reports that the coach will get fired. If they lose. We got to make sure that happens tonight. Yep. They have downplayed that a bit, at least in the national media earlier today, they said no, There's going to be no decision made on Adam Gates after this game, Which is what you might suspect would come from the front office of the Jets, given the fact that that rumor has been out there the entire week finally, on the other side of the ball, Sam Darnold A guy that the Broncos like very much couple of years ago in the draft, Darnel, a big, strong quarterback at a USC now in his third year finish last year on a streak, the Jets were six and two on their finally games, and yet this year, they just have not been able to get anything going offensively. Yeah, Jets insiders say that Donald has regressed this year. He threw to pick six it. Excuse me to pick sixes last week. In the game. Hey, he's inconsistent, indecisive. They still say he has footwork problems. Ah, you would expect a lot more of him in year three. Then they're seeing here so far. So Toby, the Broncos and the Jets, both teams Oh, and three. Both teams in a desperate mood. One would think somebody's going to be happier after this game is done. When we come back. We're going to dig into the archives and go back a bit for one time that the Broncos and the Jets played right here in the mile High city.

The top waiver-wire pickups for Week 3 of fantasy football

"Tap waiver wire picked for me this week. Is going to be 40 Niners runningback Jerick. McKinnon makes sense. McKinnon is available currently in 73% of ESPN League, so widely available and with the most injury, coupled With Kevin Coleman also being gone for a couple of weeks. This seems like an opportunity for the big free agent signing for Kyle Shanahan Step up and have Ah productive week and at least for a couple of weeks. I think he's the at least for this week. I think he's definitely the best ad long term. Maybe not because most it will return. So if you're just looking for help for this week, maybe a couple of weeks. Jerick. McKinnon is your best bet this week on the planet Jets, other playing A. Who cares? The Giants there. Still, I stayed in New York and you look the Giants Steelers. The Bears have run the ball on the Giants, and they stayed in New York. They're playing the Giants, so I would think that that's they're going to try to ground and pound. This is saline advice is always from the update and grapple is positive, right? Like they think he's gonna play? Yes, Okay again, though, it's it's obviously Tuesday, so it's hard to say anything definitively. But my cannon is the top waiver wire pick up, especially If you're hurting at running back, and if you have sake one if he had most, sir, if you had McCaffrey, and now you're starting to Sergio. Look, Yorgos got to start Jamal Williams from crying out. I got Jamal waves in my story. You might be hitting your waiver wire to pick up Jack Kennedy on the can, For sure, he's gone in one of my All right. Who else? Hide Let me fire Rams running back. Donald Henderson was highly drafted. You have Malcolm Brown, who left last week's game with a finger injury, along with Who's the other Ocampa and left with a rib injury as well. So Darnell Henderson stepped in. I think I believe you had 80 total yards from scrimmage. So Donald Henderson is my second ad. He is available in 54% of leagues. 50 44. That's good Darnell game this week. Rams and Bill's about it to Owen omits to know that those of a good man, that's an exciting game. This's now I'll give you a couple of guys right here. One's more of a long term play. The other is going to be a better bet. Immediately, but probably not for the long term. Joshua Kelly, Los Angeles Chargers, he is it looks like he has stepped right into the Melvin Gordon roll from last season. Austin Heckler obviously, is the main running back that you want with the Chargers. Things were better. With Justin Herbert under center. It's undeniable. Tyrod Taylor comes back. I'm I'm not nearly as enthused, but I have a hard time believing Anthony Lynn is just going to give the ball back to Tyrod Taylor. If Justin Herbert continues to be productive, why

Drew Lock lost to Broncos between 2-6 weeks after Steelers defeat

"News Radio Times 10 0 to the Broncos lost to the Steelers 26 21 today, falling tow on two on the season. They also lost their starting quarterback to injury in the first quarter. Jew Lock will have more tests on his injured throwing shoulder Monday. There are reports he could miss 2 to 6 weeks back up. Quarterback Jeff Driskel threw two touchdown passes, including one to running back Melvin Gordon in the fourth quarter school in the pocket floats. One up is that Gordon in the end zone, Gordon goes up makes the catch and he's got a Denver touchdown, Driscoll says. Even though back Quarterbacks don't get a lot of reps in practice. They still need to be ready to go. Being a backup in the NFL is you have to be ready to go without getting those wraps and everybody understands that And it's not an excuse for You know for not executing coach Vic Fangio talked about the team's mindset. Now that they are going to we got the right kind of people here in the right kind of players would show good fight. Our effort is good.

Running back Melvin Gordon is still nursing sore ribs. Rookie quarterback Michael Jim Moody is gonna be on the shelf for about a week with a quad injury, and rookie linebacker Justin Starr not left practice with a wrist injury progress back on the practice field UCL center this morning. "Let's get into our power to play sports poll question of the day. If you had to pick which broncos running back, would you look to keep long-term? No, you cannot right both you can't right. No I'd say, both because ideally we are going to be looking at both of these guys and saying that. They're going to be starting. Running backs Philip Lindsey probably should be a starting running back, but because of the situation with Melvin. Gordon Broncos didn't WANNA. Miss out on that, but if you think about it. Christian McCaffrey now, obviously setting the tone there he's. He's making sixteen million a year Ezekiel. Elliott's at fifteen on bells thirteen Melvin. Gordon is seven th the seventh highest paid running back in the league. That's eight million, so let's just say. Eight to ten million will be. What these these guys are gonNA take. You know what a what a top paid not necessarily average, but pretty high up. Unless you're Christian, McCaffrey Elliott. Derrick Henry those kind of guys. They're going to be making thirteen plus. But where where's Melvin Gordon going to rank after two years where where's Phill- plans are going to be. They're probably going to be anywhere. In that. Eight to ten is Melvin Gordon going to have to big years with the Broncos that warrant hey, another like a final four year contract that's closer to. Ten I mean that's that's going to be tough, because Melvin Gordon's age, but could fill up Lindsey. Show US enough in this twenty twenty year which again? He has a player option at the end of next season where he gets to the side. Does he wanna stay with the broncos. Give them another discount, and then they kind of have to come together to figure that out. And again if Lindsay feels that the broncos are going to, or they just go ahead and sign him into a long term deal. People are already talking about that. You should do it now. Don't leave it up to Lindsey side him now give him a sweet deal, even though he's a backup right now and go from there. But this is interesting. Because again. We talked about Lindsay yesterday saying this is the right offense forum Melvin. Gordon, saying the exact same thing. This is a healthy competition. Hopefully it goes the way the broncos wanted to. As far as right, these guys are competing each other, but that's only making the onfield product better, or does it kind of? I mean you saw training camp last year. Look what happened with Colin and Sanders. Everybody thought those guys competing against show. They gotTA fight. They were fighting and they say they repaired it, but do they ever repair it? Sanders was ultimately shipped out of Denver. and Portland so they paved the way for Portland Sutton to be clear number one, although then they muddied the waters again by drafting Jerry, Judy and Caja Handler I text line, three, one, nine, nine, six, three, one, nine, nine six. Power Play Sports poll question. If you had to pick which broncos running back, would you like to keep long-term Sixty two point? Five percent of the whole agains are saying Philip Linzie. We'll shocked by that. I mean. I I could see why a lot of people would say Philip Lindsey because. I mean he's a bronco favorite. He's Colorado Guy. I mean what's not to like about Philip Lindsey. I mean everything. Man I mean he's he's A. Guy, he's already under the underdogs, just ultimate underdog. He's had to. Claw and scratch not only for his position as a running back for the broncos to get on that roster. About really for every yard. He runs a lot like his. His career has been so far I. mean he is pushing and fighting, and he has a chip on his shoulder, but the broncos didn't deem that enough. They didn't think that Lindsey with Rolls Royce Freeman. Being the backup was enough for what they wanted to do. Offensively I mean John. Elway took a bad offense and said it is time to throw everything at it and see if that helps. I admire that I. Mean You're acknowledging you've done something wrong, so let me spend a lot of money in these areas and spend a lot of draft picks in these areas to grow, but. Again I've said from the beginning drew lock needs to to work on offense and learn how to drive the F one fifty rather than the jet. That's what he's been given right here at least on paper. It's very fast it going to be out of control. Who knows guys, says Melvin Gordon, not because I. Don't like Lindsey. I, actually love Lindsey, but history of this game is such that running backs his size historically don't last long in the NFL and twelve pound. Difference at the position is a big deal. It's the reason. A. Lot of these guys get out of the game, so our guys out of the game. I, events text, line, three, one, nine, nine, six, three one. Nine nine six somebody already commenting both the. Again, the question is. If you had to pick, you gotTA listen. You're not going to pay both of these guys. What is Philip Lindsey worth? In two years. You. Know Right now I mean Royce Freeman's making more than Philip Lindsay. That's. That's just how it is. Because Roy was drafted. What in the second round? The that's how it's going to be. But what will Philip Lindsay make right now? He's League minimum five hundred seventy five thousand dollars a year and you have Melvin Gordon. At Eight. I mean think about that. You have ran for the broncos. You. You made the team. Then you not only. Did you make the team? You earned the starting job? Not only did you earned the starting job? you run for a thousand yards, and not only did you run for thousand yards, and you become the first running back in while to do it back to back years. And how do they reward you? Go Pay Melvin.

What analysts have to say about the Broncos' 2020 free agency haul

"Season let's talk about the the Broncos free agents that they could be doing a really really good job of posting up some video break down to the players that the Broncos have recently added it's giving people a chance to kind of get to know some of these players some of our our household names like Melvin Gordon but Graham Glasco certainly is not a household name I think for a lot of Broncos fans so maybe let's just let's call it back to the AJ Bouye a trade and what did you what do you think the Broncos got with AJ Bouye well I think first and foremost this is a life of Fangio's scheme fit to be T. at you know he's a he's a lanky guy he's got speed towards what I think of a cover three or mast cell type defense of financial likes to run he's a very smart player in terms of getting himself in position there was a place Sam Darnold you know the just like the run that post will route a lot they try to run it earlier in the game and you know I think they did a very good job communicating at their place band coverage there and boy a cover number one on the post pattern pretty decently late in the game they try to throw the same exact routes and boy they read it perfectly he gotten from the wide receiver and shielded him almost like a box out in terms of of a basketball type analogy here and he was able to go downfield to make a play on that post pattern intercepted returned about twenty six yards off enjoy downhill looks more guys in band you know Ryan you guys know this well but being around silty a lot more defensive back plays importance and I know that a lot of Broncos fans been clamored for a star name but look aged boy if he can recreate a little bit at twenty seventeen season any ad you know it's gonna be fully healthy corner to twenty twenty you can still be a guy that contributes massively in you don't have to have the most amount of telling your secondary if you got guys that are really smart that's one thing about how Justin Simmons involved fans your system I think Borges same type of player not just a bully a Simmons Jackie Jackie a Gaza border they're all intelligent guys and guys that are willing to hit is there anybody out there you see right now on the free agent market still left it maybe the Broncos could bring in and that the the defense the second or the kind of fits that mold you know I was thinking a lot about it you know one of the names that I think we've all talked about as principal tomorrow but with Chicago Bears releasing and he met all the time in the world to be able to sign in the fact they haven't done so just yet tells me that you're not interested or you're waiting for a few more things to happen in terms of you know Simmons and you may be full plans yet on off that extension's gonna happen now in the off season of this year but I feel like it may look more so in the NFL draft and no garlic Bryce Oliver junior I like him I am also an EC Roberson Adalat tech is one of the guys that still exonerated could be available maybe in the second third fourth round if this team really wants to look at that position are you mentioned earlier in the broadcast to kill will be called when we told him you know what the rockets could you never gets called PI so that might be a good idea to bring in in but also that for like the market outside is is pretty small you know there's like save your roads I feel like would be too pricey and I just don't see where he would fit right now and the Broncos can consider that they traded for boy name and they also re signed Vontae buys before I project in forty eight I'm gonna be the outside corners provincials defense this year so really at this point Thomas like the market right now has close for Denver on cornerback to like I said I think that could change at any point time considering if they make any roster moves to fix more space I think restructuring Callaghan's contract opens the door for maybe another mover to

Falcons could field an offense with 11 first-round draft picks

"So we had a truck a couple of signings by the Atlanta Falcons over the weekend right to pick up tight end Hayden Hurst from the Baltimore Ravens and they also acquired look Kwan Treadwell a former number one pick for the Minnesota Vikings yeah as the Atlanta falcons roster currently stands right now on offense alone just on offense they have a Levin former first round picks all of these former first round picks quarterback Matt Ryan first round pick Todd Gurley who sign when he was released first round pick Julio Jones first round pick Calvin Ridley first round pick the Quantrill first round pick Hayden Hurst first round pick left tackle Jake Matthews first round pick left guard James carpenter first round pick center Alex Mack former first round pick Chris Lindstrom the right guard former first round pick and right tackle Caleb McGary also that he first started his first round eleven is incredible let them all eleven of them a former first round pick I mean there's no way that's ever happened before right I can't believe that what ever but here's the real question if you had to redraft everyone of these players how many would be former first rounder this okay because I think this is fair Lidstrom McGarry and carpenter I've always been really what one or two years no it's been really since two thousand eleven okay yeah so let's remind me Gerry I think you were taken off or taken them out yeah okay so all of the other nine how many would be redrafted as a first round what's what's going on it's not right absolutely no question that runs for Todd Gurley no yeah I I would say no I would sit well I would say no one quite frankly his a conversation about the value of the position in general could also affect the new with him that was the thing coming out of college yes I look he has fifty eight rushing touchdowns over his first whatever seasons and all the other ones are either in the hall of Famer going let me just say six are we saying first rounder today or go back to the beginning again it would re drawing back to the beginning again because I'm currently the way Todd Gurley came out I mean would you not still take him in the first one that's the question now right are you going to pay for that kind of production from a running back anymore we saw Christian McCaffrey Leonard for net like there's been plenty examples of even a legal or not re signing a big second contract drafting a great one of the first round can still benefit you a lot okay I'm just trying to get to it you know is that what they've done in their right career does that mean where are the first roll worthy to me the girly thing is to your point he had a knee injury coming out of college and right when they signed with the red sign that long term deal with they're trying they got out of now then he was going to be chronic so to me the top group member he was the first one that airports reset the market for running backs and it turned out no he just re establish the old line of thinking but that first three years of production would you that would you spend a first round pick on that because we saw that rand's office how much in common now it always goes like this with the running game but in combination with an offense of line that did really well what you brought into what worth over would you pay for that as the foundation of your off I'm beginning to go the Melkite around here that I'm not sure running back as well because Melvin Gordon was in that same draft and Melvin Gordon is on his team I got an extreme I think that's the biggest conversation we could take out of this is the running back position record number mellow one point eighty never take a running back in the first Rana I wonder for we're slowly but surely going back to it I mean there was a contract a couple years ago with the first running back off the board was late second round out of Tennessee and I think we're going back to that after a bevy running backs being taken so we were definitely in on Matt Ryan yes we're out on Todd Gurley a legit is amazing looking back at Todd Gurley's draft class there's not a lot of got like if you're talking about reworking the top ten Todd Gurley might be the most wealthy in that group maybe outside of Amari Cooper yeah we can we can have that discussion later because that's in it read graphic I think is always fast and you have to wait a certain amount of time Julio Jones know quite well right Calvin Ridley first round too early again I think it's too early last year what he had sixty three receptions okay just under nine hundred okay seven touchdowns I would mean he also can't account for how bad that team ask me yes or no right now I'd say yes but I still think it might be too early Hayden Hurst no not because look they they took marketers later in the draft in the third round he clearly became the tight end of Baltimore which made Hayden Hurst by the way has taken in the first row before Lamar Jackson R. Jackson for Lamar starting you know tight on that team right now marketers you said right Hayden Hurst also dealt with some injuries and stuff there too that's okay in perfect sample size and when you have a guy come on like marquetry who could predict that the way that offense ended up of what he was the Mackey award winner a what he was coming home with one truck will no no Jake Matthews yes I think so I think so I think so do not I meet yeah yeah I mean yes he's been there he's been there is a second contract I also wrote a like doesn't miss a lot of games he's he's dependable yeah I think that's what it our printer are probably not I mean he's he's been a guy that's been in the league for nine years now dependable guy but we're talking about first round right you know I mean when you're twenty four we'll talk about for sure we're talking about top ten picks like a lot yeah yeah yeah I I'd probably lean toward no on that as well yeah yeah Alex Mack yeah absolutely yeah yeah and then the other than what we remember and I think Lidstrom would be headed in that direction yeah kill the guy who's more reach last year get killed the one I have questions about obviously we know the health concerns that existed before the draft earning a hard issue that he had had to deal with early in this time oxygen so there's a lot to hash out with those two but just I mean blows off the page when you just read that number the every single hundred dinners with that crew yeah what eleven Ryan still got its still on that ride to reach for the paycheck first but everyone else has to at least go for their wallets and act like there's also a common I do with you know with my dad so you got rid you got Ridley help you got got this R. Ridley Hearst links from a Gerry all still on their rookie deals you know wrecked yeah everybody else is is all for them yeah if I'm looking at yes correct so yeah they're all fascinating eleven a former first rounders on

There looking at June is kind of the the soft restart date when sports could get back going again. Spoke with BUD BLACK AND JEFF. -British yesterday And they bug lack said that the League told them there would be at least three weeks of spring training. That was one of my big thoughts. Is You know not to downplay. I've talked to our basketball hockey guys. And they said just jumping right back on would be tough but a couple of games and they're ready to go. You need a spring training for a pitcher to be able to stretch his arm out to be able to throw a hundred pitches in a game and so I think that's where the tight window is going to curb. Baseball is a little bit lucky. In the way that they played seven thousand games a year. And even though it's GonNa feel weird and truncated like I feel like so. Let's say they start in June with some spring training. You can still get to a hundred or one hundred ten games through the end of September and start the postseason on time in October. Of course baseball has a clock here. You can't play baseball in November. You just can't do So whatever the season is going to be. If we're going to have one is going to be a shortened season But I even think if it's under a hundred games like I feel like they would kind of look at that and maybe consider canceling play an eighty game season. If that's all you've got An everyone in basically the entire season becomes a post season that includes everybody every game. Every pitch is going to matter that much more It could be really interesting to see what The baseball looks like at that point. No I remember. I'm trying to think of when the when the NBA had their half season. Lock out. I think they started like right after Christmas or something several years ago and I remember the talk drew was like Oh does the NBA look at this now every game means a little bit more is the NBA. GonNa look at this and think and and again. That question is so hard because you're asking owners to give up so many games so many ten opportunity so it's fairly unrealistic but it certainly will still have us talking and like you just said if you get to the point where it's like eighty games you know we we see we see seasons come down to one game anyway to get in the Wildcard. Imagine what it would be like with eighty. The excitement level would be absolutely crazy. Yeah I mean only the Baltimore. Orioles will be eliminated before the final month Sorry Ball smart is what it is Miami. Probably you know the Orioles in the MARLINS will be out of it and literally every other team in baseball going into September. I'll be like hey we're GONNA run. You know you get hot at the right time. Yeah Yeah I could be pretty exciting to watch. Yeah we're getting some texters suggesting with the NBA. They're like why don't you just just give us some basketball? Take take the number one west number one east and make them do a series. I I don't know how I feel about it drew. I mean I'm not complaining. I WANNA see Sports. They have some venom in it. I WANNA watch games and all that but at the same time. I don't WanNa get too strange with everything. We're we're just playing for the sake of playing but but but but a season like that with baseball. I mean I got to tell you that. That sounds pretty interesting to me. Yeah I think gotTa have enough games to make that work. We were doing our big Podcast once a week at the end. Vr All the beats get together and we do the Denver Sports podcast where we just talk about all the different things going on and we were saying the feels weird because to some degree are intrinsic sport idea of fairness is GonNa have to go out the window a little bit. This isn't going to be fair. There's almost no way to resume any of the sports and and have some teams not be at a disadvantage and some teams not being an advantage. Because of all this. There's there's no way around it so I don't want him to get too crazy on the other hand. Sports is better than not sports. I thought somebody say you know if they have to come back and play an empty stadiums and empty arenas that they shouldn't do that. They should have like one fan for one group of fans on one side and one group of and on the other side. I am so here for that idea. I Love I liked having one fan per team. Just hear them cheering. That would be to go. I would be more interested in the fan at that point right and becomes as much a part of it. You gotta look to him for the reaction on every shot of gray. Yeah I think that would be awesome. You just hear shot go in. And it's like doing freaking out dude. I think I think you're onto something. I think that would be tasked yelling at the empire yelling out the manager. Come on get him but you gotta get a radical fair to you. Don't want to just get one like I'm actually terrible fan. I sit very quietly and I don't zoom in on me all the time and just be really uncomfortable the whole time so you have to get the right fan. Oh yeah and it just be perfect for for everything in the reactions to everything with the Sansone side of that one. Great play by Trevor. Story up the middle and the fan goes wild. You start halftime interviews with. That actually sounds wonderful. I I am one hundred percent end somehow that needs to happen. We're done with this halftime conversation with Gregg Popovich. We're going to go talk to the fan. Yes guy he's like six beers deep matter. Oh man you gotta find things you gotTa. We're all trying to like sort through it and what we're trying to predict. What is sports going to look like in six months because yeah I think we're hopeful that it you know a year you know we should be. Hopefully everything is back to where it was and we're all just washing our hands a little more. Maybe not hugging as much but maybe things are somewhat back to normal. Yeah yeah that would be great. And I. You know like you said we all have to be cognizant of the very real tragedy going on out there but you everyone's gotta keep living their lives and and find ways to stay entertained. We've been doing. We just launched the video game channel at the end of this week. So we're getting into the digital space more and more but it's yeah we're GonNa have to find ways to find entertainment and value in places we haven't before including in sports. It's GonNa be Weird But we're GONNA have to embrace it and make it what we can. I'm seeing was it Sunday. Espn's putting the OCHO backup with although all the sports that we never really. We never really talked about but I. I'm actually going to watch that. I think we should do a segment every day where we just kinda give our analysis of some of those games happening. I think be wonderful. Dan Know everyone is like me watching hockey suddenly getting into rugby. 'cause we cover rugby at. Dnb are now the Colorado Raptors. You know so I'm like Hey I've got time to learn about rugby. We've been watching old games Tonight we're doing live viewings.

This is Bastogne okay. That's big story news presented by F-famous Bank. And and that's that's bringing Yup can act as that sounds more breaking. Yeah that sounds a little bit more breaking at this point. Yeah Yeah. The Denver broncos have signed Melvin Gorden to their roster former running back for the Los Angeles chargers he is. What is he twenty seven? He turns twenty seven next month. And this this is This one is going to be a lot to unpack here. Melvin Gordon is now a Denver Bronco and I WANNA get your thoughts on this our power to play sports poll question of the day. Do you like the move. Go vote at the whole. Show DOT com. That's it you hate it man. This puts a damper in Philip. Linzie situation just telling you if you are a die-hard Philip Lindsay fan according to NFL network. Gordon deal is for sixteen million dollars. Thirteen point five of it is guaranteed. This could impact any talks about Lindsay at this stage so two year contract for the broncos which will lead you into a question mark at the end of next season about Philip Lindsay. Gordon Turns twenty-seven this month. He's the broncos third free agent. I mean they've done pretty good haven't they? I mean drill K. C. A. G. Traded for a boy. You traded for Graham Glasgow. You signed on the offensive line. You Got your backup quarterback Jeff Driscoll. How do we feel about Melvin Gordon? I would say everything else up to this point pretty good now two years ago. Colfax you tell me. The broncos are getting Melvin Gordon. I am out no matter how cold it is dancing because I was a huge fan of Melvin Gordon in college huge fan of everything that he did a Wisconsin and and honestly he's. He's put together some nice years for the chargers mean. His first year was a little interesting. He wasn't he wasn't that strong within his second year. He cracked thousand Listen I don't know that Gordon I I don't know the Gordon is an easy number one now. This is Denver saying in my mind. They want to all those reports about the broncos wanting to get aggressive when it came to running backs here we are there at a position where They wanted to get another guy a guy that can also be a pass catching threat. And that's it. That's where we are so Melvin. Gordon.

"As well Andrew this I I love the perspective that you always bring especially when we get to a business issues in the NFL I was having breakfast this morning with someone in the sports agent world and I I sort of throughout their Mike boy what would it be like to be drew Rosenhaus this weekend and the response was I'd bet drew actually loves this what what do you think about that. yeah I mean the thing about through like dad don when I was you know with the Packers for ten years that did a lot of deals withdrew before that I was an agent that competed with through known him forever and he has volume and it's just amazing to me they keep going because he's been at this thirty something years. I say volumes probably over a hundred maybe a hundred and twenty clients so if you can imagine what kind of time he's had to put into Antonio brown these last three weeks with all these other DO things going on and he's done a deal for Tyree kill and he's doing all this it's just an amazing feat now always you know on like a few years ago now he's got a family he's got a wife and two young daughters so obviously that's a lot to go through and it's it's his brother and him and just a couple support staff so it's quite a feat an ad and on that point. I get at least five. young people students even professionals reaching out to me every week saying a highway being agent. everybody wants to be an agent and when they start thinking about that they have to realize that it's not a great life now I mean if if they think it's cool to meet players and hang out with players but. it is not a it's a it's a tough job what do you what do you tell him by the way with mass that. well I tell you that first you got to think about this now why do you want to be an agent and sometimes it's like yeah I just love sports and I said well that's not a good reason you have to figure out what a player is going to see in you. to make them want to be your client. and I sort of quiz them like what do you got well I'm smart or point of GBM that's that's a good enough. now did you go to did you have with your roommate with the number one pick now that'll help yeah. you just got a sort of find your way and and I started at a big firm which is again hard to get in but that's probably the best way to go. it is with us Andrew I was following along with your comments very much so before the season and and every year whenever we get into this hold out stuff at and Ezekiel Elliott Melvin Gordon things were were both I seemingly parallel and and an interesting but now they've gone very different directions what what's your perspective on on where those you don't kind of how they played out and where the Melvin Gordon situation sets. well it is generally in that to reflect these two players everyone's asking me you know is this isn't the seek and Connie and Toni one. I resist the trend. a trend in last year and Donald and Khalil Mack. and I'm saying okay you can call it a trend but here's the deal you better better be special I mean really special. and those players I mentioned are you know their top fifteen players. top twenty it at the low at the low end but no record not. he's just not. so the Chargers have played it and said you know what. we we acknowledge we engage Europe five million we offer a long term deal averaging ten. now everyone knows ten is not nowhere near the top of the market it's like fifteen but. and that's. and they said okay it's up to you court. any says the trade is not gonna get traded a second happened so it's just where you know careful what you wish for sometimes with these hold out because the team can say okay we'll we will give you a better contract they won't be the deal you want and then you had to make a really tough decision. so once the right decision for him now just tail between the legs and come back I think so I mean I think. you've got to hit free agency next year to make the money on the best way to do I just come back and play well he may resort to this you know you just need the six games to get your car credit so not come back till some late October date but you know we can it's up to him I listen to anyone say the levy on bill provided that template. I've been bell didn't he did himself no favors yeah sitting out here and we talked a lot about that all year last year and I want to get back to the entire brown situation as well in your opinion what is the right thing for the lead to do this week. I investigate on his sleeve and. you know this is this is the problem with the NFL when it comes to us fans media even those insiders that I consider myself we just don't know we just don't know the criteria that a draws a suspension. why tie retail didn't get a suspension Worrell what are we missing. and he would put someone on this new list called commissioner exempt. you know we hear about physical violence we hear about sexual assault. but we just don't know what is the trigger to throw someone on this list because it has been so sparingly used since Adrian Peterson was on five years ago. so where we go with you and. I think you we just have to say that we just don't know enough and now that the league you know more than us. what we know is you know is that a woman is accusing him of assault in a civil not criminal civil case. which happens probably a lot to players we haven't heard. and nothing is maybe happen to those players because we don't know all the civil cases criminal we now. so I guess I'll I'm coming around here to say probably not you know in terms of any kind of Lister discipline right now so I expect him to play I saw your tweets yesterday that you gave your sports law Klaus a two hour soliloquy on Antonio brown I obviously we don't have two hours right now but give it give me an idea what it was you couldn't stop saying like what what were you telling them. yeah my class wants me to go by the syllabus they're sorely disappointed. just to add on a room I was saying I'll say real quickly I just I was wrong on three occasions I said number one there was no way in hell I said this January so gorgeous does would trade them because they take on an enormous twenty one million dollar cap and I showed the class how that came to be that twenty one million dead cap money the lone behold they did so that really told us they were willing to take on disasters cap consequences where they're playing with less than a full deck this year it's gonna hurt thirteen. just to get him out of there. which is the strips to ordinary yeah and then when I thought I was wrong again I thought no way the raiders who give up to draft picks give a big contract. and move on cut him and I said that because he's a he's the best player and be with all the time alt he still could be a productive player there. long hold I went through the class how it became that is thirty nine dollars became zero guaranteed that due to his actions the letters that was put in from saying that these guarantees our board due to your behavior set him off video Friday night release me Saturday morning gone. Danny becomes a patriot within two hours. and now I just think we got to irresistible forces working against each other number one is the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. number two. Belichick and the patriots get everyone to fall in line. they both can't be right right so they both can't be right. and you're listening out there have to decide which one you're more confident. and I guess I would bet on number one that. you know people think of phone line in New England I'm not so sure yeah I want to see your your perspective both whether you're running a team or or simply representing a player. where is that line when you know you've got talent and then you've got a headache and and and where is that line where headache overwhelms talent and the money to do it. well Ted it's all related to town to hire the talent the more headaches of which stands major headache you'll take cake to your head but yeah I mean the Steelers and the raiders have shown. US. that they're not willing. despite great great talent. just not willing one takes on twenty one million one loses two draft picks that's the trail that he's left now with the thirteen that give me giving him a nine million dollar signing bonus which tells me drew had some suitors that's a that's a nice deal guy coming off for you. so I don't know where that line is but every team talks about it. and listen whatever drew had competition on Saturday you know there were no fifteen twenty plus teams saying no way we're not touching that. and it's always awesome to have your perspective I thank you so much for the time tonight. thanks. Andrew Brandt on the NFL and the business of sports really interesting stuff from him this evening you know that Melvin Gordon situation sits out there and he really has found himself but I listen I'm I'm behind Alvan Gordon a hundred percent I will more the fell players to get paid I think the Chargers in the final year of Philip rivers current contract our our silly for leaving one of their best players out by from a bargaining position I don't know what is AL laughed I don't know what to do and I don't know how it helps them to wait until the end of the season to get up there so pretty interesting Hey our friend Kate Scott who you know well in this town not only from here and can be our pac twelve network as well she's going to jump in here coming out now it's mark weather with you on the sports later..

Jerry Jones talked the talk. But Ezekiel Elliott knew Cowboys owner would pay up

"Begin begins today with jerry jones closing in on a deal with ezekiel elliott as he said he would elliott has flown back from parts unknown and jones's put the money on the table. The dealers is reported to be somewhere in the neighborhood of ninety million dollars for six years which is a pretty nice neighborhood frank. Did the cowboys do the right thing by showing zeke the money yeah well. We know how it works tony. It's all about the guaranteed money so right now. If it's six years of actually being eight year contract because we being extension still has two years left. I think jerry jones and i think is equal. It all knew that he was going to be backed by week one. I think this whole thing all along him going to mexico wherever he was working out. He knew that he would be back. I think he's our most important offensive player and to the point point. Jerry jones is desperate desperate to win the super bowl and he thinks he needs ezekiel elliott and he didn't wanna missing one game so i'm gonna push back gently because they need suzuki and this had to be done. I'm not sure they need ezekiel elliott right now. This has nothing to do with money. In my mind i think they open with the giants the better team than the giants and the redskins. They're a better team than the redskins. I think what went on in jerry's mine is the specter of emmett smith when they went oh and two and he had to publicly sort of eat crow and go and give him the money now. I think you always want ezekiel elliott and to your point. He is their offense. This is not the kid from san diego dago melvin gordon yeah. They don't really need like you put dak prescott out there without zeke elliott and they don't really have a great offense. I'm just i'm just suggesting that it could have been because they're gonna. They're gonna give him the ball so much that he could get hurt. I could they wait for you. Want load management then in the n._f._l. N._f._l. I want him to make sure if i'm trying to win the super bowl. I wanna make sure i understand there's sixteen games before you get to the price. You're my lead guy but you're bringing being up. Emmett smith and emmett smith played with more battle-tested quarterback number one. Yes a better team. They went on to win the super bowl. This team has a long way to go before they can do that. I guess it's it's too important. You know the gauging your talk just chunking up saying they're they're guaranteed win. I don't i don't but that's how that's what jerry jones said. Maybe we'll get him back in a week. We need them in time for the playoffs. Yes you sure you're gonna make. I'm not saying i would wait till the playoffs. That's what he well. He made it sound like we don't need in the first few weeks. We'll play that is public. Posturing that jerry does very very well but the money's money's on the table

Who is more important to the Dallas Cowboys: Ezekiel Elliott or DeMarcus Lawrence?

"Would you say is more important to the success of the dallas cowboys ezekiel elliott demarcus lawrence simple question well. I would say this is zeke elliott but for reasons that aren't as apparent. He had seventy seven catches ashes. He's a factor in their passing and we we agree. Zeke light is more valuable to the dallas cowboys and demarcus lawrence marcus lawrence pete over twenty million dollars. A year out of context is everything zeke. Elliott has two more years on his contract. He has no place to go. They could franchise him after that so that is a big look. He's really important but where else this is he gonna go. He has two years remaining. That's what makes it hard and it's not just the two years remaining the to franchise tag after that third franchise tag if they wanted so you could make the argument that dallas controls zeke's rights for five more seasons and get ice about until he decides through the collateral damage and all of this is the play the teammate you sitting there you you know nancy. We had the preseason bahamas. You're now. Everybody's focus week. One game plan in for the giants here. We're planning for the giants. We're getting ready for a divisional opponent and our best player has named reported. You know how much of a down of that is going into the the season will all everyone has all this optimism because everyone's owino right every it's a clean slate for everyone. You had a data zeke elliott. There hasn't ed's reporting and damian from a player's perspective. Here's the other thing anybody could get zeke elliott signed. That's the easy part. The context is dot prescott amari cooper byron aaron jones and starring see so you want your teammate in there but in the back of your mind as veteran. You're like wait a second. How much of the pies left for me so you have to really artful in terms of saying well. I got to be able to get jailing smith signing because he can't leave the marcus lawrence of good pass rusher but i gotta leave enough money for these other players because the starting quarterback he can't go anywhere. He may not happy elite but they've won. A lot of games with the sky is one. We'll say mike and i'm sorry but this is the dallas cowboys for for building team around zeke elliot. You look out of the dallas. Cowboys are constructed. They are like one of the few teams that their bill ronald running back. Okay so dallas cowboys put themselves in this position right now and now they're paying the piper because zeke elliott zeke elliott has perform and then maybe the top running back in the national football. He sees what the future is running running back position and he's sitting there saying i'm not i need it. I need to withhold services right now if i don't do it right now. I'm never going to get paid like like the other top running back. You're the best argument you can make for zeke elliott. They were fifth in the n._f._l. Last year and time of possession translate look at their defense. They were top five defense because they were never on the field. There were twenty two point scored but zeke elliott kept the their defense off the field bottom line. What's the eleventh-hour in this. I think that once you get to next week next week we get past monday or so monday or tuesday not complete the opener which again juries now bracing for an expecting and i think the problem with this situation with melvin gordon the longer it goes on the more things are said the more issues pop up we already heard jerry jones one say zeke coup which basically insulted zeke as agent so these things going. You never expected last year. After a couple of weeks. Steelers offensive lineman would be critical levian bell and they were and that inflamed the situation association and led to hurt feelings and eventually led to levy on bell sitting out the year so once you get this far into the game and they're so many sides with so much at stake everything is very personal sensitive and it's very risk but there there's a big distinguishment here. Fear does the work of reason. Maybe i'm bell was a free agent. J._v. soundcloud can be free agent. Zeke elliott's going anywhere at some point. He has to be reasonable because if he wants to play football is going to be all you with that but what i would say to you there is this in the next time zeke elliott steps on the football field he has he's not gonna be out there until he gets new contract when it gets a new contract what's the guarantees on that you tell me why would he stepped foot on fulfill. Find me take who am i sell it. I'm not stepping foot on a football field until i have my thirty forty whatever the number raising guaranteed millions of dollars and i'm not risking myself getting an a._c._l. Injury were some kind of career threatening injury. That would damage value. You keep your three point eight million dollars dollars this year. You keep defines. They come with that. We'll see how it goes if i'm sitting out the season and not playing and there are questions every day season to sabotage and if i'm jerry jones is stephen stephen jones. I'm betting on my offense align. I'm betting on good quarterback. I'm getting on the return of jason witten and every game i win. I'm more voted in my position and that's how why this whole thing is gonna implant and i've been in that situation. I'm like boy. We hold up without the role rears omnitel his agent we can but that's what kept me up at night and that's really where the cowboys are can only pollard pass protect. I promise you the first time that he gives up a sack. That's gonna put more money in zeke. Elliott's pocket and that's why i said at the beginning zeke elliott is right. The dallas cowboys right. Both sides are right now. The question is figuring out a solution that works for everybody that helps them save their season and help zeke. They don't either talk about it again on monday today to announce they are inactive ninety minutes before kick-off. I'm saying the eleventh hours like ninety one minutes as long as as long as he can get sign on that day on sunday before kick-off saturday four o'clock right he'd have to be in a roster exempt. It's a great point susan because they could get roster exemption so maybe they could sign him. He could work out for a couple of days but it'd be saturday and then as you're limit though

Chargers, Melvin Gordon And Ten Million Dollars discussed on SportsCenter AllNight

"Time Joseon adders are reporting the agent for Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has requested a trade because charges are not backing off their offer of ten million per season which represents a roughly twice the salary schedule to make in the final year of his rookie deal they remain at a record you know not wanting to report because he feels like he's valuation is higher than ten million when you have to put that in the context knowing that Todd Gurley right now is what at fourteen point three lay beyond del thirteen one David Johnson at thirteen million my understanding is that the comp that in being out there right now is that David Johnson and Melvin Gordon are similar in terms of how they should be paid and they are definitely still at a gap between those numbers and so right now he's going to stay out until the situation gets resolved nice of Gordon toll charges that if he does not receive a new deal that's acceptable obviously he'll sit out demanded trade he's followed through on both threats Louis Riddick Damien woody Chris Mortensen with insight on how this plays out in if Gordon has any leverage in this hold out he doesn't have the leverage because the charges obviously feels so his replacements is number two or number three players like Austin Meckler Justin Jackson will give them enough of a of a level of production a percentage of production may not equal what number will give them enough to where they have enough other weapons on the field to make up the difference and they're just going to go with the you know one year at a time type of philosophy and if he doesn't like it then they're gonna trade I think he's out on the football team before the regular season starts and hopefully he can find that one suitor who not only is willing to pay a high price to get him but is also willing to pay him long term which is what he's after after lands a former running back and running back coach and the one thing I know by if the land he's very confident that he can find another running back you mention it already the fact that Philip rivers in the last year for the of Joey Bosa is coming up they have players in the pipeline so to think that Melvin Gordon's going to get you know the levy on bail early heard Todd Gurley absolute because are guaranteed a lot of people looking to toggle the contract and is like wool we don't want any part of that so okay Melvin Gordon is in a situation where he's not gonna get paid by the Los Angeles Chargers and more likely he's going to be sued no with another team actually ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details Melvin Gordon's only played one full season out of a source for any is a good back is he an elite back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details but Melvin Gordon's only played one full season of the source for any is a good back is he in the league back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ultimately I think the charges feeling and we talked about this yesterday and make your Damian Moore and and the lens perspective is they do fill like if necessary if gore insanity assigned eventually then you can put them on the market as a team it is the one with the agent do the shopping Eric Williams covers the Chargers for ESPN provided this take on why the charger should find a resolution with Gordon if they have aspirations to make a run in the playoffs he was on Spain and company yeah I mean it's basically a stand off at this point you know Gordon wants to be paid amongst the highest running backs normally he thinks his his statistics over the last couple years point to that he should be pay you know like David Johnson girly let me del the Chargers obviously disagree on that date they are pricey them again according to reports and and I believe they're accurate about ten million per year you mean another structure the contract how much of that is guaranteed how much that is fully guaranteed when he would receive that type of money so those are things that are going on in terms of negotiations to try to get Melvin in the camp I did the things that are promising if both sides want to get a deal done Melvin Gordon wants to play for the charge the Chargers want Melvin Gordon the place so you would think at some point there there would be a compromise that could be made to get Mel in the camp because he remains to be seen you know Melvins representation that told the Chargers that you know that they would demand a trade at the contract demands aren't aren't made the charges are willing to trade him they basically haven't control for the next two to three years due to make five point six million in the following years rookie deal and they get franchise in another couple years no but it is important in terms of where the charge you want to go in the post season they can win games without knowing the crew that last year they want **** when no one was injured the issue is is can they want simple without melon and I think the answer probably is no and so I think that does give me a little bit of leverage yeah well he might want to look Gordon at levy on bell scenario the now jets running back doesn't second guess himself for sitting out last season a decision that cost them fourteen million in salary he did say you wish you could have told fantasy owners some type of way to not draft him or pick him never made it on the field

Zeke Update

"Be N._F._l.. Teams are in training camp but that doesn't mean every player is we've got hold doubts in key spots Saints Michael Thomas Chargers Melvin Gordon who else Yana can gakugei Jacksonville Trent Williams in Washington and of course Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas the big one big name that everyone's watching out there in oxnard California all guys that <hes> are heading into either the final year of their deal or wants some sort of adjustment on their contract before camp or the season starts so we gotta go through all these the person who helps us make sense of all this stuff is our own Adam schefter so Adam Una make this pretty simple. I will give you a name and you tell us the latest on that player. Start with Ezekiel Elliott of of the cowboys will Zeke Elliott has not shown up in Oxnard California side of the Dallas Cowboys training camp and they're going through physical today. They are basically supposed to be attending a team meeting and there's no sign of Zeke right now which tells you soup that it looks like at the very least Zeke Watch is underway and it certainly feels like this is going to be a hold out while the two sides tried to see if they can come up with a new deal for Zeke Elliott but no signs of him California this yet and no signs as of November by the chargers camp right now then this one is going to go on for a while the two sides basically have their own stances. There have differing pains. Nobody Gordon's value. I don't see this getting south anytime this summer I I think this one looks like it has a real chance to go into the regular season. It's time for Austin Ecuador and Justin Jackson and no Michael Thomas in New Orleans still you take the reading receiver off that team. The saints have offered to make them the highest a wide receiver receiver in football. It sounds like he wants to get to a very high threshold north of twenty million dollars a year. We'll see what they can get there where the saints a willing to budge but Michael Thomas wants to become not just a highest eight wide receiver in football but the highest paid wide receiver football by a long shot right now while we wait for Julio Jones deal to potentially come in later this summer Adam sit tight we we'll come back to you as as needed. We're going to go back and talk about Ezekiel Elliott though how important is even to the cowboys he's led the N._F._l.. Rushing yards per game in each of his first three seasons the only other players to do that in the ninety nine year history of the N._F._l.. or Jim Brown and Earl Campbell perhaps you've heard of them. Both of those guys are in the hall of fame name safe to say that few running backs have ever had a better start to their careers then has Ezekiel Elliott

Get excited! Only 50 days until 2019 NFL season starts

"His Well well well. I think we've made it today. Marks the first day of training camp for not one but four teams the broncos Raven particles and seahawks and his team now Jaguars quarterback Nick foles joins the show he'll chair his expectations for his first season at the helm in Jacksonville Seville and Hugh the countdown clock. Today marks the fifty day mark until the start of a brand new N._F._l.. Season and we covered the fifty they storylines between this happy to have you with us as we mark the fifty day mark between now and the start of a new N._F._l.. Season I'm Wendy Next Bill Gates Victor Cruz and Louis Riddick and we're going to look at the fifty biggest storylines that will face over the course of the next fifty days and none more pressing says training camp against today at least for for four teams which players Lewis might we not see show up to training camp. Why think to to really that headline villier being cloudy? Melvin Gordon in particular has signed his franchise tender. We don't really know what's going to go on with him as far as when he will report if he's going to you know he'll report at some point or the regular season Starts Melvin Gordon. He's one of these situations where he wants a long term deal. You'RE GONNA play on his fifth year option. He wants to secure is long term financial future right now nope as all running back Zeke Elliot who you saw brief clip there also in that clip right there. I mean he's a guy who has two years left that he can play unders rookie contract. I mean these running backs right now. They feel the accelerated sense of urgency to try and get their long-term deals deals done because they know teams are going younger and cheaper younger and cheap way running back and they understand why and these guys know. They're not going to be fooled into thinking that you can that. They have to prove themselves before they get paid because once they proved themselves a lot of times teams won't pay them. It's a whole different discussion to talk about sort of resetting that running back mark but there is no question that's where we are and that's the reality those players are having to work within right now. Let me ask you this. We've we've seen a number of quarterbacks who are also in line or looking for a contract extension victor who gets one. I think Dak Prescott mainly because obviously his age. She's the youngest of the crew. I mean when you look at Tom Brady as well as Philip rivers. He's the youngest quarterback out of that group that we're talking about. Obviously these other two are phenomenally more accomplished than than that Prescott is at this moment Eh Dak Prescott given his statistics given his age. I think he gets done. I I think the other two guys obviously get extensions maybe much smaller in years because of their as and just kind of give them they've earned that year to year kind of thing and extend them for not too much tom longer but I think that gets paid out of these and when he talked about his other two of course talking about Tom Brady and Philip rivers both of whom will likely say pudding continue playing for the team a little bit different right. I mean the threat of those players to party and go in somewhere else feels unlikely at at this point. Both of them want to get a probably two or three year extension done demet not necessarily conclude their career but it prolongs the current tenure with their teams more familiarity there as compared to Dak Prescott who for the first time and perhaps last time

"Does it happen to be another miles? No. Go ahead. My second sleeper is Benny snow junior from Kentucky. He's a guy who is really a workhorse back kind of in the Melvin Gordon mold guy who thrives on volume touches and gets better as the game goes on. Snell is quick to get to the edge dangerous and space. He has a good jump cut. And the makings of a good spin move. He's very effective as a receiver in the screen game. And he's instinctive in space in the open field and uses his blockers at the second and third levels. Very, well, I think some of his limitations I think is vision is questionable because he frequently runs into the pile one. There seems to be hold to to run through snow needs about five seven yards of open field to build a head of steam. He's not really what I would call burner. Benny's easily derailed by early penetration. Not overly effective in short yard situations and not very creative or loose of and not much of a blocker. So I have a seventy four on Snell. So kind of a mid to late third round pick. I think he's a guy who you know. I think he gets better with touches. So if you wanna get them somewhere in that fifteen to twenty touch range, I think he could be very effective as a workhorse kind of grind it out. Could certainly be effective closing out games late not not a whole lot of upside. But probably a pretty low pretty high floor as well. I didn't get all the way through enough running backs to get a second the running back out of Washington miles. Gaskin was I thought maybe your second one a guy that has something that I like to use more of a day three guy more of a finesse running back who's gonna need to be a niche role because he lacks the size. But I got I liked to. So let's. Go ahead and move on to top five, and I'll go ahead and start and these are my top five running bags. I got Josh Jacobs. And number one, I've got a leisha Holyfield at number two of the ninety five. Daryl Henderson is an eighty three for me. Devin single Terry who we didn't go over is number four for me at eighty one and David Montgomery with an eighty is my fifth running back. So we've got some this is I think this is probably one of the. Some of the most variation. We've had anywhere position group since we started doing this kind of cool. My number. One running back is David Montgomery with ninety three Elijah Holyfield is my number two with an eighty nine. Josh Jacobs is number three with an eighty eight. Rodney Anderson is number four with eighty six and mile. Sanders was my number five also my sleeper with an eighty four hour, right? Great. Okay. Let's go ahead and move onto wide receiver and we'll start off with de que Metcalf from old miss, and he's a big physical built has the ability to win every level early on and gets open with this release news his strong hands to combat any press swipes off coverage to work himself open Metcalf has the speed that DB's after respect because he can get open deep and with his big frame. He's easy money on quick headers and can create after the catch a negative. Of course is his season was ended because of neck injury. There are some issues with Metcalf fishing off place doesn't always high point with regularity. He can get up. And when he's on. He's dangerous. But there's a lot of miscommunication with his quarterback at all miss a lot of yards on the field with some mistime, leaps and coverage as well. Metcalf..

"Six years in a row, if you don't have a by you don't go to the Super Bowl is that. Now is that the conversation as you guys walk out of the chargers locker room into the off season next year? We gotta get. We want to stay home is not as we want to stay home. That's that's the the main thing we get that by. We know we went on out. We we have home field advantage. And I think that plays a part because we had to travel to Baltimore we had to come back. Then we have to travel to new Inc. Like that. That takes a toll on you, man. So we rather get that by week that I see we don't have to worry about. None that flying people that have come to us while I couple of questions about that. I was going to ask you, what is worse alternately the travel or being in LA getting used to? And in fact, I was talking about that in the run-up to the Foxborough game when they were saying it's going to be really cold there. I said one everybody keeps saying, oh, the chargers are warm weather city. I give saying not their runners, man. Justin Jackson and Melvin Gordon are big ten guys. They they are no strangers to that. What makes you more the cold or the travel the travel the code doesn't bother? It wasn't code in New England. I I'm used to that. We got heated seats in Wisconsin. We never disease we had. To Stanford or blue or so haven't he sees his dynamite for me? So it was more to travel. Honestly, traveling there is this join him in as far as the home field advantage that you mentioned it's something a lot of people talk about what what's it like being in the stadium. When it's generally is is every game. Basically like a fifty fifty kind of thing every game was more like a fifty fifty. But that last one we play was like seventy thirty almost eighty twenty chargers fans. And that's why I wish we would have had you know, we would have beat Baltimore. And we'd have been able to get that. I see. 'cause that's I was like, okay. If we could bring this to the play offs. If you guys come support supporters like this. That'd be done my first. Yeah. That would be cool. And then again in just a little while you're going to be in the new digs there. And you've been talking about that a little bit that you don't want the Rams to win for obvious reasons. Do you are you getting any heat or is it not any re-? You're not getting any. Real grief from anybody just gave me a little heat. But I mean, it is what it is. You call me a hater. It is what it is. I don't like any team. Honestly, I like the patriots. Neither is. But you know, I like the patriots a little more than I liked to ramp. So that's just what it because they're your neighbor. I never understood these people who are you one of these guys who when it comes to the big ten people always I root against Michigan, and Wisconsin and Ohio State and everybody else when they're playing in a bowl game or otherwise. And people say but DOJ good for the what do I care? That's I don't wanna see my neighbor do. Well, they they bullied my team around. I went to Indiana. I don't wanna see I don't want to see you guys go on. And do I wanna see you lose? Just the way you made us lose during the season. Right. It will Missouri at we'd beat most of the team. So advocate who is. But I do like in that says I do like I'm different because I do like in the big ten win in the boat when facing SEC because I hate this see as they talk about. So I like when the big ten, but you know, we usually kind of lose Wisconsin. While state, how do you? I'm one thing that is one of the many differences between pro football players. And and loser Dave is not just the physical ability, but you have a different level of of confidence..

"All right. One of my favorite guys. I said it a couple of years ago. The first time we cross paths. I said this is one of the most the light full characters in all my time of covering pro football here he is number twenty eight from your Los Angeles. Chargers. It's Melvin Gordon. What's happened in fella? How are you alone? For the news seeing a no man, I miss you. I well, you don't have to anymore. You look so fancy look at that chain around your neck flash. Nice man on July me, right, man. It a make you a piece I would like that very much. What would be my nickname though, like something? That is intimidating in a way. Like flash says, what people need to know about you coming in. What would be a good football nickname? Get. It says it all had the have name. You can have a Mike mind. Okay. I'll just a microphone Margaret. Yeah. Guy who never shuts up. Yes. I'll talk your ear off of you aren't careful foes, you know, hey. Melvin Gordon you really did have a dynamite year. And I remember talking with you about a year ago, your your your MO as well, of course, in part because of flash is that you're super fast and allusive. But the fact of the matter is and the NFL fully, but we've talked about this. I think a year and a half or two ago legitimately. But I think the NFL now understands that Melvin Gordon's banger. But who punishes the defender more than the defender? Punishes him is true and see Cavs make a difference with the I you remember. That's right. Zieger Aho small cats. Yeah. If the Rams and the chargers were both in the Super Bowl as I forecast in the preseason, I came one hundred and twenty minutes shy of that prediction coming to pass while. I mean, I got like halfway there anyhow which which radio team. Would you listen to? I would watch the TV brokos could be too tough for me shoes. But it actually meant something the way to pay Omayad his father. So he was sincere any thanked me there. I don't care if the world knows it actually. But now, I've just made the world aware of it. That was a great. You really do care if the world knows? Yeah. Really? I know. But yeah, you're right. I do and I wasn't really cool thing.
