"All goes, I can go and look at some water from fresh water swimming. Unlikely. Tell me what's happening where you are in the papers at few spots. I'm going to start with the Italian papers, and Algeria is very much in the headlines. Georgia meloni the prime minister is back from Algiers, as Rome strives to become a bridge for North Africa, trading with Europe. So she's happy with the fact that Italian energy giant any and Algeria's sonatrach group have signed deals to boost Algiers export capacity in terms of energy as it's in Europe are of course easing away from Russian gas. So the Italians are gunning to ramp up energy imports from Algeria. They're hoping to become a hub. She really used the word hub for supplies between Africa and Europe. In the coming years, leveraging their traditional ties. Now, the agreement signed include attempts at isolating activities that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, looking at increasing the transport capacity for existing gas supplies and working on a new pipeline to transport hydrogen. The time prime minister also referred to undersea electrical cables and boosting Algeria's capacity to produce liquefied natural gas. So this is definitely a new diplomatic drive in Africa. On Italy's behalf. And it's pretty ambitious as well. We love ambition and Georgia meloni, is doing really well in the polls too, so good for her for now. Okay. Let's move on to an interesting story about the number of women on the executive boards of the big companies in Switzerland. There has been a big jump. I knew you would like that story. So it's great news for women in this country. The proportion of women are executive boards in the country's largest listed companies has risen from 19% to 24. Okay, we're still far off higher numbers, but still according to a study by an HR consultancy, it's the largest increase in any European country over the last 12 months, Emma. So this place is Switzerland 6th in European rankings above Germany and Denmark. Now who takes a top spot, the UK, with 29% of board positions held by women. That's followed by Norway, Sweden, Finland and France. And it's generally financial sector companies that are leading the way Emma, so it's UBS, the largest Swiss bank there, women hold 42% of board seats, and they're followed by partners group Credit Suisse and Zürich insurance. Now, interestingly, the same set of executive board makeups found that foreign nationals occupy 73%. That's a large number of executive board positions in Switzerland's 20 largest companies. Now, if you want to compare that to Germany, well, only 37% of managers in Germany's top 40 companies are non Germans. Juliet lily, in Zürich, thank you so much for joining us on the program. "Closer look at the day's papers now with a journalist and broadcaster Julius linley, Julia to join us from our headquarters in Zürich. Good afternoon. Good afternoon, Marcus. Looking at today's papers, I understand you've been looking at what the French press is covering today, something from Le Mans. Absolutely, the paper's Rome correspondent has filed quite a detailed peace Marcus on Emmanuel Macron's only confirmed last minute very much kept under wraps meeting with Italy's new premier giorgia meloni and ketamine as they put it. It was the first meeting with the European leader from meloni who'd only just been sworn into office shortly before and it's notable because the two leaders are pretty much chalk and cheese in terms of their political positions. Liberal pro European Macron has long been particularly reserved about post fascist meloni often emphasizing the need to respect the tiny people's sovereignty in her regard and is closeness to former prime minister Draghi as you well remember. That was no secret. But as analysts have put it Macron can not underestimate the figure of meloni given Marie le pen's hefty popularity in his country. So the two met in Rome, Sunday Night, the day before Macau met the Pope at the Vatican. For what was initially touted as just a quick coffee with no official protocol, but apparently ended up turning into a far longer meeting with Macron quoted as saying relations between France and Italy are quote more important than relations between the two leaders. Now the Elise is hesitant to own contrast sharply with that of meloni's entourage. Which is quote very much in the Italian press saying that there was clear convergence of views on key European dossiers, including the energy crisis defense, economic matters, migration and support for Ukraine. But Marcus analysts are saying Macron has every interest in fostering good relations with the new Italian government, given the ten state of affairs with German Chancellor Olaf scholz. And of course meloni has every interest in not beating the anti European drum too much with Macron with Europe in general since she desperately needs the €140 billion package from the European recovery plan that still needs to be dispersed. It's definitely interesting to see how those relationships are going to evolve. This continues now with a story of sport from The New York Times, a very interesting one about Taiwan's charm offensive. Yeah, it's on the front cover of today's New York Times, to counter China, Taiwan banks on its charm. And so we're looking at how Taipei is working creatively to bolster its global alliances as China's threat on reunification grows more pointed. So Marcus, let's remember that only a handful of nations are officially recognized Taiwan as being the Republic of China and Xi Jinping just a few days ago called unification with Taiwan a natural requirement and stress Beijing reserving the right to use all measures necessary. So Taiwan's foreign ministry is an overdrive in terms of international diplomacy and this article. Interesting looks at Lithuania as a case study and says it's last year, Lithuania attracted Beijing's wrath after rejecting a popular Chinese cell phone that included a censorship registry of 450 terms banned by the Chinese government. Beijing therefore made it nearly impossible for many Lithuanian companies to sell their wares in China and so Taiwan hustled in, opening a de facto embassy last November and soon after announced it was setting up a $200 million fund to invest in Lithuania, plus a $1 billion program to finance joint projects. And ever since Marcus, Taiwan's leadership has been rallying around Lithuania, even on social media, as it's 3 million citizens were sort of as if they were KPop stars as how the article puts it. Well, let's continue, obviously Taiwan is concerned about the future, but you've got something something a bit more optimistic maybe from today's targets on psych, or what is this press covering today? Yes, it's some Swiss news via Cambodia. So a film about an incredible man markets who was both a pediatrician and a gifted musician. Who used both of those talents over the years to treat some 20 million sick children in Cambodia for free. Throughout the country. Now, this is bad richner, better known as bear to cello. He was a doctor for the Swiss Red Cross, and he had to escape Cambodia in 75 when the Khmer Rouge invaded. And he then went on, he returned to Switzerland, but then went back in 1991, was raising funds for hospitals in Cambodia. And one of the ways he raised funds was by playing cello concerts. And now a film is being released here at Zürich's kunst markers and it's called who was bad weakness. Amazing. And indeed, as the article mentioned, up to three and a half thousand children are treated in those hospitals every day. Juliet Linde, in Switzerland, in Zürich, thank you very much for joining us today.

Lord Conrad Black on the Media's Lambasting of Italy's Giorgia Meloni

"Let's focus at the recent events in Europe. This was Giorgio maloney, the incoming prime minister speaking earlier this year, at cpac. And I think we've ascertained why it is they hate her so much. This is cut 12. The successful political candidate, the conservative, Georgia meloni. People understand that in this age, the only way of being rebels is to preserve what we are. The only way of being rebels is to be conservatives. Is the same all over the world. So called progressive. Use the power and the arrogance of their mainstream media to force their political opponents to change, to be allowed into their inner circles, except that once the right wing men and women are admitted into progressive inner circles, they will have changed so much that conservative people will no longer recognize them and will stop supporting them. And that's exactly what they want. A right wing on a leash. That's what they want a right wing on a leash. When you look at the censorship of the Hunter Biden story, the raid of Mar-a-Lago on and on et Al. Perhaps these are the reasons that she has been so lambasted by the left wing media because of statements like that one, lord black. Yeah, I think that is very likely right. And actually, I thought what she said was a skillful adapt analysis. And this attempt to describe her as fascist is just the reflex that we have in almost all of these countries. I mean, in fairness, the British and Canadians being relatively more moderate than vandy that we're in so much. But and you Americans are overachievers. But from fascist Nazi, which is, of course, even more odious as it connotes genocide. But this is the shorthand we're in. Anyone who is not supposedly progressive, although we now see from the floundering of the Biden administration that progressive policies lead to economic regression and procession. Anyone who is not on the progressive bandwagon, it won't do to call them a conservative. That's not defamatory enough. You have to call them the fascist.

Dinesh Highlights Giorgia Meloni’s Rhetorical Subtlety

"Listening to the newly elected Italian prime minister Georgia maloney talk. What you have, first of all, is a certain type of rhetorical subtlety. She, they say yes, but we say no. And so as this lilt builds, you begin to see that there is an agenda here. She knows how to lay out her vision. She knows how to contrast it. So she is in her own way. You know, we sometimes say the left is a dividing force. She's a dividing force, but she's dividing against the left. She's trying to put it differently. She's unifying Italy against the left. And what a contrast with so many of the kind of conservatives and Republicans in this country who are just such lifeless duds. I mean, I think of just think of someone like McConnell of McCarthy, who have heartedly put out now that we're just two months from the election here is our agenda we're going to be doing this and we're going to be doing that. First of all, it's not even clear that you can believe them. Second of all, this agenda is nothing more. All they've done is go back to recycled papers from the last election or perhaps even from 25 years ago. And this is kind of a warmed over agenda. Yeah, this time we're really going to be serious. Look, we don't have an alternative. We have the Republican Party. We have to work through the Republican Party. But all I'm saying is that we could sure use some more Georgia maloneys over here.

"Yes to safe a borders. No to mass immigration yes to work for our people. I was quoting this to Debbie and showing her a clip. It's actually, you know, it's just interesting to listen to this in the Italian and Debbie goes, well, that's the Trump agenda. And it sure is. Interestingly, Georgia maloney is not a kind of libertarian free market capitalist. In fact, she attacks. Not only big government, but to some degree even big business. She goes that big government and big business have a kind of common interest in erasing the particularities of our given identities. So the fact that we are not just as she puts it numbers were not just interchangeable numbers or consumers, but rather we are members of a family. We have a family last name. And we are embedded in communities, and we have religious faith, and we have affiliations to not only our state, but also our country. So these loyalties to families to fade to country, she goes, get in the way of big business, which wants to see everybody merely as a consumer and big government, which wants to see everybody pretty much as a pawn that it can manipulate to its benefit. And at the end of her speech, Georgia meloni goes, she quotes G.K. Chesterton. And again, G.K. Chesterton, the famous Catholic intellectual, somebody would hardly be described as a fascist. In fact, it was vehemently anti fascist. And so her quotation from Chesterton very telling fire as will be kindled to testify that two and two make four. Swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green in summer. What she's getting at is that today we are in the surreal position. I think we all feel this of having to defend reality itself. Reality itself has become contested. You look like a woman, but no, I'm not a woman. I don't see myself as a woman. I see myself as a toad. And so this is an argument we seriously have to have with people. They identify with members of other genders or perhaps even other species and basically Georgia maloney says my candidacy is here. I'm here to tell you enough. Enough of this nonsense. So she's running as a cultural conservative.

The Significance of Giorgia Meloni’s Big Win in Italy

"Italy has had a free and fair election and the result is a big win for the right-wing or Conservative Party. And it's actually a coalition party. But the leading member of that coalition is a group called Friends of the fraternal order of Italy or Friends of Italy. And fraternal brothers of Italy and its leader is Georgia maloney, who will become the next Italian prime minister. Now, there might have been some leftists in this country. I mean, they were, they were warning against this result, and they might have been hoping that it just as here in 2020 you'd get like later results that would pivot away from maloney and give the election to the left. But unfortunately for these leftists here in America, Italy has voter ID. And also the only mules that you find in Italy are four legged ones. They eat grass. So this wasn't honest election. And now the left is dismayed at the outcome, and there's also a lot of screaming about the outcome at the EU. Why? Because at the European Union, they can see that this is a trend that is beginning to sweep across Europe. In the beginning, the trend was only in Eastern Europe and you may say at the periphery of Europe. So Hungary, for example, pivoted in a right wing direction Victor Orban, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia. And so the EU said, well, the mainstream countries in Europe aren't going that way. France is okay. Even though we've got le pen, Germany is okay. England is okay. And Italy is okay in Spain is okay, but now Italy, one of one of the countries, in fact, sometimes described as the beating heart of Europe. Italy has decided to also pivot sharply to the right.

Charlie Reads Viral Speech From Soon-To-Be PM of Italy, Giorgia Meloni

"There have been some massive excesses of the global regime, and it's all being rebalanced. Donald Trump played a role in that. Brexit played a role in that, but it is just starting. You see the globalists, they moved way too fast. The gang of Davos, if you will. They imposed their viewpoint and their philosophy on the western world, not ever thinking that there might be an electoral or populist backlash. So let me play this tape. Let me not play the tape. Let me actually read the speech. From Georgia maloney, the soon to be prime minister of Italy. Here's what she says. She says, please answer me these questions. This is about where we are today. Why is the family an enemy? Why is the family so frightening? There is a single answer to all these questions because it defines us. Because it is our identity because everything that defines us is now an enemy. For those of us who no longer like us to have an identity and simply be perfect, consumer slaves. So they attack our national identity. They attack our religious identity. They attack our gender identity. They attack our family identity. I can't define myself as an Italian Christian woman, mother, no. They tell me I must be citizen X, gender X, parent one, parent two. I must be a number, because when I'm only a number, when I no longer have any identity or roots, then I become a perfect slave at the mercy of financial speculators. That's the reason why our movement inspires so much fear. That's why this event inspires so much fear because we don't want to be numbers. We will defend the value of the human being because each of us has a unique genetic code that is unrepeatable. Can she run for office here? And like it or not, that is sacred, we will defend it, Georgia maloney says we will defend God, we will defend country. We will defend family, those things that disgust people so much.

"For now, Europe's right is celebrating with Spain's vox and Hungary's Victor Orban among the earliest to congratulate her. For Monaco in Milan, I'm Ed stocker. Thanks very much, Ed. Well, I'm joined for more from Rome by the journalist Megan Williams. Megan, these are provisional results. Can you give us the numbers that we have so far? Well, what we're looking at now is Georgia meloni's party fertility d'italia our brothers of Italy getting about 26% of the vote, which was more or less what most polls had indicated, the second most popular party is the Democratic Party of the center left, but they're under 20%, so they've dropped. And as we just heard, the populist 5 stars had a sort of last minute surge, this is a party that has veered to the left and its leaders now Giuseppe Conte, who was Middle East prime minister for a while. So they did fairly well. But the most interesting thing about giorgia meloni center right coalition and the coalition that she's formed with Silvio Berlusconi and Matteo salvini is that she really has the vast majority of votes with this 26% her two partners took 7, 8%, which is quite a dip, particularly for salvini. What was the turnout? The turnout was low. And in fact, it was about 64%, about 10% less than the elections four years ago and meloni herself addressed that in her victory speech at two 30 in the morning here and a hotel in Rome. We all stood around and waited for that. She said she was very disappointed that Italians don't understand how important it is to vote and one of the things that she would like to do is to increase a sense of importance among Italians of government institutions and the need to participate. Is there a particular demographic that supports maloney and her party? I think it's hard to say, I mean, Italy is an older country. But this particular election, the age limit dropped for people voting for the Senate. It used to be that you had to be 25 to vote for the Senate. Now you can be 18. So there were about 4 million more younger voters, but it's really not clear yet how many what the percentages of those younger voters who were attracted to meloni. Now Melania backs Ukraine, but that's not true of her coalition partners. What will this mean for the war and how is the EU reacted to the swing to the right? Well, her partner Matteo salvini, who has been in interior minister in Italy, whose anti migrant and very pro Putin traditionally, he's against the sanctions, the western sanctions against Russia and Silvio Berlusconi had made comments against Putin's invasion of Ukraine, but just a few days before the election, he went on national television to defend Putin essentially and say that he was forced to invade Ukraine and then all he really wanted to do was replace the zelensky's government with some decent people and then leave, but he faced unpredictable resistance. So I don't know how that's going to change maloney's position. I would doubt it would change much just because she's said repeatedly that she supports Ukraine. And she has a lot more power than these coalition partners do now. But as you have on the line has been very strong on the fact that the EU isn't I paraphrase here, but isn't taking any nonsense. Well, she came out and made a statement a few days before the election saying that the European Union has means to deal with a coalition that causes trouble. I don't know. I mean, we'll just have to see what meloni does. Her hands are really tied, particularly in terms of the economy. Italy got some 200 billion Euros in funds from the European Union to help it with its post pandemic recovery plan. And this was the plan that former power outgoing prime minister Mario daghi was ushering through, but there's very little wiggle room that given that we're possibly going into a recession that the cost of energy have spiked as there's inflation.

"Shows. Now I love that. Let's get him back on this network. Yeah. Yeah, he told the black guy for me that he really wanted to do that. Guy from ew, oh, my new Instagram handle is going to be love. You need to call Chris Kardashian some trademark this for you. 100%. I can not believe Eric did not bring a margarita out here. What is going on here? You guys is Nick Cannon ready to say I do. Last night, Nick posted photos of him with a mystery woman and an engagement ring, writing. I said I would never do it again, but finally doing what the world wants me to do. However, some fans, including myself, think Nick's post is all promotion and could be from a music video. I know this question that we were supposed to ask is, do you think he'll ever put a ring on it? Is this what the world wanted though? But that's what he's like, I'm just doing what the world asked me to do. I'm like, did we ask for this? I'm confused. I thought we were like, Nick, zip it up. Take it away. I love your day off. I think the picture is from music, because I don't remember him dropping music in a minute, right? No, no, I think it is from a music video, and he did say that he had this thing with Jessica white, this music video. So I do think it's from a music video. But I'm more curious, she looks gorgeous. He'd be proposed to somebody what they say yes. That's a lot of that's a lot to consider. Because I would say yes. You ready for some children? Yeah. Some or something. Quite a bit. I'm ready for an adventure. I'm ready for like three good years of a fun time, a yacht, some private jets, some probably a good divorce. I bet you. He is like, he's the black woman Paltrow. Consciously uncouple. Leave me a few meal. I'm here for Nikki. Oh my God. I'm here for

"Not even going to make a comment on that. I have never in my life. What age you have to be to be a zaddy. Can you just Timmy? I'm going to say it's a vibe. How do you answer that? I'm going to go over 49 because like four. 40 to 48 is like uncle, you know. Here we go. You know what I mean? Oh God. The daddy face comes not only with age, but with income. What about zaddy with a Z? Yes. Is that a vibe? Can you be a daddy? Not really. No. Okay. You call that a twink. Okay. You guys, it's official Khloe interesting or having a boy. Now we want to say again that Chloe and Tristan are not back together and as far as we know because we called everybody, there are no plans to reconcile. Could you see yourself having a baby in an unconventional way? I mean, as for the gays, we sort of do like three gay people up here like right. You guys want to zaddy me like this is it. I mean, it is going to happen in unconventional way. But look, they have a huge blended family. So like, of course, they're going to do this in an unconventional way. Everything that they do, I feel like is an unconventional way. For sure. Right, I would do that. You know, it's funny because I've read reports that came from another outlet that she didn't see herself being a single mom. And I think a lot of times we have this thing that single moms are not normal, but if you look at the statistics, one in four kids are raised by single mother are in a single parent household, so I'm pretty sure that's normal at this rate. Right. You know what I mean? Yeah. And she's got a family to support her. So I don't want to say yes, single mom, but also takes a vision. She's got their live next door or down the block. It's a whole little compound. No, no, it's a compound. I also think that there are a lot of married women who are single moms. Yes. I was just going to say that. I was like, just because you have a partner doesn't mean you're probably not a single mom and doing all the work and doing everything that's required. Exactly. Chloe's probably not. Is there another social norm that you wish that we would just like do away with? Oh gosh, that's a good one. But mine is gender roles in the house. Like that someone like that the woman always has to do the domestic stuff and the man does the fixer uppers, or whatever those kind of things look like in your household. I just feel like if you're good at it, do it. If you want to do it, do it. And try to chip in and relieve someone else's workload. If they normally do the laundry, nothing sexier than you doing it one week. Oh, I love it. When I see a man. Jay, maybe? When I see a man bending over to do the undo the dishwasher. Yes. That to me is lit. You know, I also think that we need to undo this whole thing that we have about divorce. Like, I have friends who have been living in their own prisons on you with your husband. I know how hard that you guys have tried. You know, I know that you are more afraid to leave because you're scared of what other people are going to say are afraid of the unknowing. But I wish that we told stories of women are men leaving marriages and having a happy time. We are having a second changing the language, then the lovingly uncoupling. Like, I love you. I want what's best for you, but I just don't want to be with you. Like, does it need to be so like, we got a divorce. What if you're not bitter and angry you're just like, this doesn't work anymore. The relationship just ended. That's the thing. I think people view success in relationships as like married two kids, married for 80 years. No one does that. And so my convention would probably like polyamory. Monogamy. People like multiple things at multiple times. We shouldn't always just view monogamy as like two people together forever. They never cheat. They never do anything. They're absolutely perfect because clearly that's not working. The divorce rates at 50%. Spoken like a true lesbian, you guys. She's like, polyamory, being open, want multiple things at the same time. I'm like, oh, I've heard these rumors about you. In our community. You know what's also so interesting that I love about like, what I like about a lesbian and I really do wish that gays would jump on this bandwagon. Oh my God. Okay. Wait to hear. What do you get? I've never heard the sentence come out of anyone's mouth. I want to normalize you hauling. And when you hauling means is there's a joke that lesbians. The second date date, and it's a U haul truck because they move in together because they move really quickly. But I think women immediately go to the connection, they immediately, by nature, want to not domesticate one another. They want to settle down. Yeah. And it's more of an intimacy thing. I feel like men play the game, you know, too long. I wish that we normalized that. We moved in together. It was fine. Now, he's dating Sasha, and we're all going to be Friends, because that's how we do it. Yeah, no, I agree. I think people make fun of lesbians a lot for doing that, but at the same time, we do have a high success rate in our relationships and like sometimes you want to speed up a little bit about getting to know them. I don't want to waste three years and not knowing what they're going to be like, then I move in with them and they're terrible. The worst roommate ever. I just wasted three years. I can't, no, no, no. If we're going to, no, no, no. I believe you should probably test out living together before you get married. You have to. Because I know a lot of couples who the minute or dating and the minute they move in together, they break up. Right. Something just like, I look at that pandemic. Isn't that close? Yeah. You know what else I want to normalize? I think this is so cool. And I'm going to get in trouble for this on Twitter. Oh, here we go. But lesbians also have makers. Like, you ever see a vampire movie and it's like the vampire that bites the girl.

Sure, they're famous for their amazing equipment, but the app gets me motivated to do lots of different workouts. Like yoga. Cardio. Meditation. And strength training. You okay back there? You want me to call somebody? I have never wanted to work for free more in my life than I do right now. I have never been gayer in this moment than I am. I have so many feelings. First of all, a good on him for being a gentleman of a certain age and being comfortable sexualizing himself because the older you get, especially in this industry, like the limelight seems to fade from your sexuality. And this is kind of like a sexual vibe, obviously he's such a zaddy. People have loved him and sexualized him. I mean, for years, even for Law & Order. You think men have a trouble being old and showing off their body. I mean, I don't think I feel like too many men show off their body for their recognize their age. Instagram has literally flipped that whole thing upside down. I feel like the older men get that's what when the end of that zaddy stage. Are you are you feeling this? Am I feeling it girl? I'm trying to get the uncut version. Okay, I'm trying to interview the cameraman about what you gotta take in that joke in two separate directions at the uncut, but I left it as a Jewish woman. "This is going back and forth but what it tells me garrett is there any fantasy we had that. He would resign that he would walk away from. This is not going to happen. It's going to take legal action to remove him. What do you think that. There's so many layers to a to. I mean you know britney side britney's dad's side the conservative side. The somewhere in the middle is somewhat the truth. And then here's the other one that i think makes it worse the fan side so the fans they they want to envision. What they believe is true from brittany bay. You know what i mean so it just adds to the internet of like someone wrote this. It has to be true. You know right. We don't know but it makes it worse because it just picks up and it snowballs into this bigger thing that it was complicated happen to some of the that. You've been a big fan of the day. You have to admit it's not quite as simplistic as you wanted it to be. So when you say celebrities i wanna love you madonna. I wanna love you. You're the best person in the world. Madonna's actually quite difficult and so she should be because she's the queen of pop you don't get to be madonna by necessarily being a nice person when i first interview to i had to reassess the whole feelings about you walked away going. Love your music. But you know it's weird. Isn't it as human beings. We all do this. We we want to totally love you or totally. Hey chew and the truth of the matter even including you and league. Guarant- is most of us are somewhere in between. We're not complete angels but would not complete devils so i kind of have seen in. It didn't change my mind of this person. But i kind of got to realize what they go through in a given day so i was fortunate. Enough to meet shawn mendez. At one of his shows. I took. I took my son in my big fans. And i've seen shawn mendez at the radio station a dozen times and it's almost like a meat factory where you know. He's he's put up and he asked to go through. I would say twenty five hundred to three thousand people before show and it's just like hey how're you right and it's like a later and it's like the mindset of that alone i was even. Yeah i went onto with bon jovi. I used to work for bon jovi and was on his private play in flying to each with concerts. I've seen more bon jovi concerts than i've had hot meals and the fantastic but it's complicated the bon jovi. You see on stage for two hours. And i'm sure john would not mind me saying this. Maybe he would is great. And that's the show biz. John but the second he gets off stage. That million dollar smiley has disappeared. Not because he's mad he just turns into like a normal person and you hear that with comedians to like you know where you run into a comedian on the street. And it's like hey do something funny like almost like yes yes no. It's so complicated here so this actually brings us beautifully to our poll question of the day. Britney spears his father is saying that there are no grounds to remove him. Who do you believe. Do you believe him or do you believe brittany. I want to believe britney but this is gonna be a legal matter. They're going to have to prove prove these accusations against the that. Hey go vote on our twitter page. It's juicy today garrett. That's not nice. Rob or facebook page which is not go see him. I'm be sure to check back tomorrow to hear your results..

"I seriously i'm just like oh one more and then i'm like well. Why does my belly her to wanna coincidence. So i don't know we'll lvmh's belly up for her probably not let's be real. No probes not transition. Sentence retail are like these fuckers. Almost six hundred fifty thousand retail workers quit their jobs. In april the larvae. Shit what yeah. I not not kidding. When i introduced this six hundred almost six hundred. Fifty thousand retail workers quit their jobs in april. It's the largest one month exodus for the industry since the labor department started tracking this data more than twenty years ago. So you may wonder why. Like don't people want to work now that we're getting out of the pandemic. Let's have rebecca given a professor of labor studies at rutgers. Explain it as she did to the washington post. Here's her quote. We're seeing a wider understanding that these were never good jobs and they were never livable jobs. In many cases the pay is below a living wage and the hours are inconsistent and insufficient if anything the pandemic has made retail jobs even less sustainable than they already were. Yeah mic drop. Even though some big retailers have increased their base wage to somewhere around fifteen dollars an hour. that's not true across the board. The median hourly pay for store. Employees is still only about thirteen dollars an hour and on top of that. You have to deal with weird hours customer moods and still the risk of getting sick right one person. The post talked with was working the closing shift at a dollar store in north carolina. She was making ten twenty five an hour. Sometimes she would work nine days straight without a day off and she was working one night when a customer encouraged her to apply for a job as an intake specialist at a law firm where they worked like. They saw her being cheerful even though she had the closing shift and said like maybe i can offer her about her situation so she took this job where she only makes thirteen dollars an hour but she gets to do it from home and during daylight hours so you can see that. It's still an upgrade and that shows what. A lot of retail workers are realizing. They don't need to stay in retail but the skills that they have and with so many employers across industries hiring right now they don't have to just suck it up and go to the next store at the mall to get a job. They can branch out and be welcomed in new roles where before they might not have been considered the post notes that it's too early to tell if this is going to be a long term trend or something that yoyos during the pandemic. but let's be real. I cover employment issues for work. So if things change i will let you know lisa. The retail industry has been treating people. I crap not paying them for years. Why won't they go back to it. i don't understand. i wonder. I really don't understand why they don't want to work across. An ansi stands for seven twenty five. Oh no being across from pretzel is a benefit. We all know that. I would like to preface this by saying i've worked in retail in the past and i loved it as a job. I actually really did enjoy working in retail and i worked in it for years. It was my first job worked at different points in my life. And like i would go back to it for real but i understand where people are like. Yeah you guys didn't really care if we've lived or died over the past year. So what do we owe you and also the nonsense with the crazy hours and only finding out your schedule like last minute and there are no benefits there. There's nothing keeping you there other than if you really love retail. This is a report you so situation. So let's not all be surprised And also as customers. I think we have to be patient during this time. Because a lot of systems are out of whack because there's a lack of retail were hers. I waited for fifteen minutes at the harbour store for some paint like to even be held at the counter. Yeah this has nothing to do with apparel retail. But they kept apologizing every time they can by. We'll be right with you'll be right with you. The man finally came over and he was like thank you for being so patient and i was like seal working like it's not like you're just ignoring me. Like i am not in a huge rush to buy this. Core of pain So yeah it's just it's just those little moments that remind you that like. Oh there's a disconnect here between retailers and a workers and it's gonna take some time for it to get sorted out. yeah. I've seen a lot of articles that have been like well. Teenagers now have their pick of retail jobs. And i was like well. Okay true but they're still like you're saying there's a disconnect between like there was kind of this mindset that only teenagers worked retail jobs in the first place and now that they're not adults and they are with those jobs because they needed to take them or they wanted to of like a well. Where is everybody well like Come on they've been there they have been there. How many times. How many ways can i say. The system is broken. Like you all know. The system is broken. As what i do. You have a crime for us. Oh my gosh. I do everybody. Let's sing the song fashion. Be all right. We got a desired as a unit. What ki- we're going to see that in from there but we'll figure that out after the show. I think we hurt serena's ears. I don't she's like please crying in the background. No more this is a story about watch. Detective everybody gather round as a story from the new york times by felicia craddock as about a guy named christopher maranello who recovers stolen art including stolen watches. This is his job. it's so good. Lisa is just so good all right so stolen paintings have typically made up most of his caseload but as of march of this past year he's been receiving more calls to recover luxury watches. He owns something called art claim which is an art recovery database and he just launched watch claim. It's an independent archive of lost and stolen watches. So if you have a timepiece stolen you can register your information including the watches model serial number proof of purchase insurance information..

"Dress like the real nice look and i was. I was shopping the net flicks collection however ranges from one to two thousand per piece. So they're actually doing a higher price collection for this special event rather than what we usually see which is a collaboration. That's maybe a diffusion. Yeah if it continues to do well the collection could elevate this brand that has really fallen out of the spotlight compared to some other luxury labels and i'm gonna say it again. The two part met gala starts in september celebrate american fashion and we could see some. We could see some vintage halston on the big red carpet. we could also see a lot of halston in the collection so this is going to be another one to watch over the next couple of months i love it i love halston vintage halston especially. It's so much fun. And i love how it encapsulates. An era so well. Yeah so sexy and beautiful. I love that. There's been this resurgence. Because people are remembering the halston name. The halston brand the weird part is net flicks bs. Oh weird. I wanna go back just a little bit because you said net flicks and neiman. Marcus are partnering for it. Is that we aside. It's halston x net. Flicks is the collection. So far it's only for sale online but in august neiman. Marcus will be the one store that gets to show it in stores so neiman. Marcus is also a part of this. What a bizarre trio of collaborators. But like that money needs to come from somewhere. And if if netflix can shine a spotlight on designers in order to reinvigorate our brand then so be it just feels a little weird it does and this is not the first time that netflix has done like merch. Collaboration for show. I think One of the earlier ones may have been with stranger things Because you know that's like ripe firmer ch right but this is the first time they've done something that's really elevated in terms of like sheer price point so I mean do you consider it as a merch idea or is it a fashion collection. I mean that's the thing it's not like. Yeah it's not like a t shirt or a lunchbox. It's an evening gown. I don't know all i know. Is that these. New pieces are really beautiful. They look very modern. But also very halston and i approve every single one of them. Lisa stamp of approval done. Lisa's damp over. I'm going to save my pennies. So i can get one of these and be like. Where am i going to go now. I got the stress. You got some gators to visit. It'd be like hey boys. I'm wearing your cousin. I'll talk about him like that. About this wade. Okay next story. Lvmh now completely owns pucci because why not they own everything else. Lvmh now owns one hundred percent of melia pucci. The founding family still had a thirty three percent stake in the business until earlier this month. When they sold the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed as part of the transaction loud of mea pucci will step down from her role as vice president and image director of the company. She's been in that role for twenty years. She will instead dedicate herself to the archives and promoting the heritage of her father. Emilio pucci who founded the company in nineteen forty seven so lvmh. I took a sixty seven percent stake in the italian fashion house in two thousand. The conglomerate recently said that pucci would return to its roots as a resort focused brand. Also just in case you guys didn't know this pucci recently had a collaboration with supreme. Like that was on the table if you would have blinked. You missed it. I missed that one. yeah happened. The spring was a collection of windbreakers. Track pants hoodies shirts. And if you did not know. Because i didn't realize this was happening. Most of poochies boutiques and cities across the world have closed recently but it sales at resort locations have been doing very well so they kept a few key places open and those places are like racking up sales because of resort. Wear two places in the us where it's doing really well our palm beach and miami. When i say miami totally makes sense because those bright patterns those colors i may be a works. Best as resort. Wear that's fun. I would like to be more. Resort focused as brand my brand my brand to be more focused on going to resorts. I'm just manifesting that. I'm just putting it out there into the world. You're in the space to make that happen. I mean you're not that far from a lot of fun stuff. Like that i am near properties that could be considered resorts. If you look at them through the right squinty. I if you look really squinting if you just have a couple of margaritas. They start looking great. Nah everything's a resort. after margarita. Anything can be resort if you put your mind to it. I'm really excited for this. New role for latin me is new job of like overseeing the archive sounds baller and it sounds like a great thing to do like if you've been overseeing this company for so many years you're stepping back you know you're giving over control of the company to this major conglomerate like this is still a way to have your hand in a way that i think is is really meaningful and can really help preserve the heritage of the brand as the title says But i think that's a good role switch. And i do like the direction that they're going with our fashion. My only hesitation about this entire thing is does. Lvmh need one more thing to own one more thing completely you know. How big is it going to get. I mean i never need another cookie. But i usually take one excellent analogy. You know like can't stop those thin man's girl.

"Linda fargo said quote. I think we've had him at bergdorf since the mid nineteen ninety s. And as far as i'm concerned he's as much a part of the fabric of the store as the main floor chandelier adorable compliment to be compared to a lamp. I may add like you all sparkley. You are part of this building. The collection will not be available in jacob's own stores. That's this significant like they are the exclusive partner. His stores will only feature his contemporary. The marc jacobs line his street. Where line haven or his off price merchandise. I wanna read you. Ww d put out an article about his latest collection. It was by booth more. And i loved the phrasing and the setup of how they went into this collection so watched want to read you this little paragraph at said inside the library. The scene was muted. Because let's be honest you can put on a happy face designed party close and say the roaring twenty twenties or upon us but the viruses still lurking new york. Fashion is struggling. And we're all just trying to work it out while sub well really well said because it was a beautiful collection but we still have a backdrop of like this thing this thing over so lisa. I know you saw the most recent collection. What were your thoughts. I loved it so much. Even at the same time i was like mark. This is crazy but let me give you an idea auditory early since you can't look at it with us. This had a ton of over-sized geometric prince not small prints but like super sized prince. Everything about this was super size. It was big wide pants. It was sleeves that were longer than the models arms. Everything was pretty androgynous. In terms of i couldn't tell you the gender of the person wearing it and part of the reason i could not tell who was wearing it was because people tended to be covered from head to toe in fabric and it was a lot of different fabrics at once. A lot of heavy things like like what looked like tweeds and wools and also like puffer jacket pieces. That made me think of kenny from south park a little bit now the big. Yes and it was. It was truly a work of art this collection. It had what sixty two looks. It was huge and it was just it thought big while also thinking about covering bodies in a way that i have been thinking about but then like now i'm thinking about it and smart jacobs brought it up in this collection. I really really think this collection is worth looking at me too. I came away saying. I want these pieces. So it's not just that it was beautiful in its entirety. I think it's very marketable. Which is wonderful he was working with. These oversized puffer jackets. And another thing that. I wanted to point out as he had a number of looks where the models were wearing body suits that had high cutouts for the legs and then a blanket skirt so you could see like the hip bone but these blanket skirts looked so comfortable. So there is this element of it being really joyful and bright's lots of bright colors but they're still this need for comfort that i think we visually need these days because everything has been so uncertain that he kind of addressed that i appreciate it. Yeah there are a couple of looks in this collection where like granted his cost thousands of dollars. But i still looked at the shapes and the silhouettes and i was like yeah. That's what i looked like dragging a blanket around my house for half the pandemic like that percent. Yes yeah what. I looked like but i think you know. Regardless of the fact that he took off two seasons like he's back and with this double part met retrospective on american fashion coming up like. Yeah he's gonna be one of those to watch for. The next couple of months. Agreed made excited. I was like this is the joe i needed. Right now yeah about american fashion fashions coming back baby. Yeah i'm gonna put you all back in the little fashioned time machine for a minute we're gonna do the what a tv. She goes back in time and it gets all wiggly. Yeah yeah so. We mentioned on our show a few months back. That netflix has a mini series. Right now called halston. That is about the famed halston. Brand and while the designer's family may not be happy about the sexed up. Hollywood ization of the label. They hated that shit they really hated it but halston the brand is loving it and it's going straight to the bank. Sales are up six hundred thirty one percent year over year. Miniseries debut web traffic for halston dot. Com is up. I have the number thirty two hundred here. i think. That's thirty two hundred percent. Yeah and that's mostly from organic search and it's likely to get even better. In terms of sales so in august neiman. Marcus will feature the halston x net flicks capsule collection in stores. "Jacobs is partnering with bergdorf goodman as the designers exclusive retail partner. So marc jacobs skipped the past two seasons of showing a collection which is significant. He presented his fall collection at the new york public library and projected the runway show on the building of bergdorf goodman on fifth avenue simultaneously which is pretty dope. It marks the beginning of a partnership between the designer and a store. Just a new iteration with that. Because he's been a part of that store for a long time bergdorf goodman will be the exclusive retailer to sell his runway collection. This fall it will be in stores and online and october jacobs said that the store has been a supporter of his since the mid nineteen ninety s the bergdorf goodman fashion director. Linda fargo said quote. "Podcast lisa off the bat. You have news to tell us about owls. What's going on over there. carin and everyone else. I heard with my ears. Some owls this weekend and it was really cool. Because i don't know how i've been doing nature wrong all this time but i had never heard owl. Sounds like this out in my life. Now i get it like living in dc. For so long. I wouldn't expect to hear some like surround sound. Al sounds say that six times but like here in florida. Like i also like i live in the suburbs. I live in the city. So it's still nature like every now and then there's like little tiny owl that comes to my art like he doesn't say much but when i went to the woods this weekend the woods of florida the rivers between orlando and everything else. That's where i went the swamp. I think of it a swamp. It was a little swampy. If you've ever seen the tiny toons how. I spent my summer vacation cartoon movie. You know exactly where i went and i'll just leave it at that but yeah i i heard these amazing owls and the one that likes stunned me while i was sitting on this patio like drinking and cheap beer in the middle of the night was The barred owl which is the one that has like the big round face. That is like totally symmetrical. He has these big is with big lake and now his contouring great. You know that album huge and they have a sound. That sounds like the phrase who cooks for you. Can you demonstrate please. Who cooks for you. That bitch has great concert some highlighter and is asking about who's cooking a meal. Yes i did not see him with my honest because it was dark out because you know he. He was napping during the day. This was his prime time. But i heard him and it was just so cool like it just like that tiny experience just really like lit up my weekend made it that much better so just you just got to keep your ears open kids. I am highly impressed that you willingly chose go out into the woods in the first place. Congratulations that's well. I stayed in a house with plumbing so it was. It wasn't like i went to the primitive camp. Say i went to someone's house okay. I'm with you. Yeah and then you like experience nature in this way you also mentioned gators to me which is wild that we're talking about owls when gators involved too. They swam near me. I don't wanna scare all the non florida people but like they were they were mere me and like i have the same rule for alligators as i do with bees. Like if you don't bother them they won't bother you. Yeah there's just hanging in their house. That's their house their whole. I just let. I gave him the right of way. I let him cross in the water in front of me thirty feet away. And i didn't even put myself look at you. And not sure. I think city lisa from five years ago would have been scared shitless but how then in florida too long. I'm like oh that little guy. He's just a baby. Fantastic well while you were in the woods. I was in new york city. Say i got mixed up on the pride parade. It was glorious. It was a really good time. Had by all fantastic. Did you mean to get mixed up in the pride parade or did you stumble upon it and you're like oh shit. This is happening really the ladder. I mean there were signs and indications because everyone was dressed fabulously but literally got mixed up in it and could not cross the street so we figured it out though. Were you dressed for the occasion. I was not dang girl you've been waiting to put on some outfits like had you thought about when you were going to new york. I know you think you would have maybe up to your outfit game. It was a last minute trip. So i wasn't really thinking clearly. I was just like get on the train and go but it was a good time. It was really lovely to just be an a city again doing events. I went to a museum that was fantastic. Ate a lot. Food was great. Which museums you go to whitney. I've never been it is worth it. It's beautiful it's a great museum going out into things. I know this is exciting. It really is things people places. Look at us man. Everything i do. I do it because of pfizer. Thanks visor daddy. Pfizer daddy phaser set me up real good for the summer. Amen amen wanna move onto fashion news because some people are just joining this podcast and an are like owls.
