"Want that now. What was the most fun for me around? That dynamic was watching in real time as people who haven't been tuned into this stuff and who are from the coasts discover Midwest and Minnesota Nice. Yeah no IT'S. It's basically the same as southern Nice. So yeah yeah just like there are so polite but it's like every single word is so barbed and edged. There's so much subtext is it's like normal and then just like all the t- he oh bless your heart rate to exactly. Yeah yeah good stuff is good stuff. I very much been enjoying the comedy. Coming out of this. Like the the the I'm sure they'll be different segments on it Next weekend such yeah next week because most of the late night shows took this week often like oh poor poor sound needed and snl cold open. On this I really did just came cynwyd do or this week. I assumed but maybe they are. I don't know I don't remember I'm not you know I. I watched last week because Paul so I this week. Remember who's hosting but I it's not someone I'm particularly engaged with. So we'll see we'll we find out but yeah it was just really? It was really interesting and entertaining given the bump that closure got out of her strong debate. Debate performance before the New Hampshire primary there. This could be a good thing for Warren Mean Bloomberg isn't on the ballot in Nevada Nevada. So want impact him there but the thing is that there's been so much early voting already like half the states. The anticipated voters have already voted so they might actually end up helping her all that much in Nevada but it did help them raise like seven million dollars six or seven million dollars in twenty four hours. I contributed fifteen bucks to that. Yeah yeah a lot of people did it was it was like a tip like tip your servers at the trae. Actually it's just like. Oh yeah no I should have given you money sooner but also poor bunny so your muscle vicious gave me life. So here's GonNa give you fifteen bucks. Yeah I can do. Maybe you'll get a call you. You must tell us if you get a call. I'm not going to get a call but now probably just probably not but you know anyways so that was interesting and I have not been watching it and most of the debates. I watched some of the last couple. I certainly watched the first one but yeah it was very much. The energy has always been yes. We have our differences but really any of US would be a would be. We all endorse all of us. Even the big differences we have until boomer chewed up was just everybody. We endorse all of us. But not that guy that and so we'll see what happens at the next debate. I anticipate lower viewing numbers but Who knows after this? Maybe not this week. At the end of the show we are talking about very different team dynamic with netflixing cheer which is a six episode. Docu series that trapped earlier this year. That's going to be Super Fun because when you think Tim Competitive Sports. You think Nolan Kate you think the Tele Verse Right. Yeah absolutely like I mean were I mean we we. We've done some sports related stuff and you love Friday night lights will yes I do yes? It'll be an interesting discussion. Melissa Benoist shares details of previous domestic violence

"Bigger piece of TV knows that we wanted to mention. was that Melissa Benoist went onto instagram. I think was instagram and posted a video detailing her experiences with domestic abuse and intimate partner violence and and I haven't girded my loins to watch it yet. I've read summaries there. A lot of people are very moved and I will watch. Watch it Hopefully the next couple of days. But it's not something I think he wanted to go into lately so I really commend both for being able to and being willing to be open about that experience and talk about how it shaped her and what her experiences were and hopefully there are. People bought their listening and sharing in that vulnerability and that honesty. That really need to hear. Hear this amazing we all do. But who can relate in a really personal way and drenched from from what she's been through and when she's able to share with other people. I mean that's amazing it is and it's a the what she describes and I I've only read a summary of it Sounds quite Harrowing so Yes no incredibly courageous of her Kinda step forward in use her platform to raise awareness of this kind of thing through her own experience and yes supergirl has experience intimate partner. Violence really can be anyone So so yeah it I I. It's something that you know. She doesn't name the the better People have kind of piece together who has to be But I think having that that open you communication with her her fanfare she can talk about these issues. Yeah takes a lot of strength. So we'd go most moist and Yeah I you know. I'm not looking forward to see that but I I think it's important inside. I will be checking that out and it's just incredibly

"University see characters casting has not yet begun for the role, but the cost will also feature return of Tyler heckling as Clark, Kent, man. Let's near DC hero and cousin to care danvers supergirl Melissa Benoist the crossover set to air this winter with the flash kicking things off to a ninth fall by aero on December tenth, super on December eleventh episodes were air at eight PM eastern time Pacific standard time. But you mentioned nothing about black lightning while the legends up tomorrow. So what's going on with all that? So. And we'll black lightning every crossover, Abba crossover into supergirl arrow and the flash universe. Just wonder, just put out there just saying. All right folks. And now it's time to talk about. Mr. Mercedes and my Chela. So we're going to do Mr. Mercedes last. I want to tell you about season two, macho, the Netflix original TV series. So we talked about it before my Chela as she's the English detective. She basically came. She had quit the forest to be like a stay at home. Mom. And wife and that just start working. She's got two kids. And. Her relationship with them, which is kind of a little strained. It's a. Emma's daughter Edwards, her son. Now my back Lynn and her estranged husband is Jason back. So. We talked about season one and what happened. You know, I told you much as that could in regards to that just to like Wicha whistle. Well, let me just tell you this season two. Season too much, and that's EMMY our c. e. l. LA is just even darker and dirtier than season one. Yeah. Remember how I told you guys that I really didn't care for her character, but I was still fascinated and intrigued and stimulated by the TV series. And how seems to be a new thing now where I'll get a show that has like great writing great characters and in some cast, but I may not really care for the main character. I'm still getting used to that because back in the day, it was all about the main character about the good guy or the good girl. You know, you watch the six minute, man. You were rooting for Steve Austin. When you watch the biotic lady, you rooting for Jamie summers, you know you just as just how it was, but now television is change and it's because is giving you more layers. So I'm happy about that. But so I discovered that I didn't care for her husband, Jason and the I see is, and I care for me the lesson. The second. Not that likeable. I guess you could say he's a loving dad to an extent, but just. Okay. So when you see a show like a police detective show and. The one formula that always seems to be the same said before previously, with the exception of the blue bloods on CBS, Tom Selleck is that these police officers don't have salad relationships, whether they're male or female, they're usually divorced or or headed towards divorce. And now we'll say about season. Two of parts of my Chela is that when I look at my husband, Jason. Yeah, he's, he's just not likeable either. And that look at the both of them and I'm just like you guys dysfunctional people who got their children, that's what you are. And whether my was a police officer or not, or detective or not. I still don't know if I would like a personality. She's a great cop. She's an excellent detective. She's she's, she's got a nose. She's very keen and intuitive and that regard. But. Sometimes she crosses the line. And that with procedure, but well, other things let me just say this, just some social etiquette that. That she should file this. She doesn't. Yeah. Her character can be kinda rude and abrasive. And when you look at her, she just kind of goes that way. Just kind of route new braces now all the time, but..

"But you'll never know your wish came true, I know. And it's something of others, right? I'm gonna wish from now on that I win the lottery and then I'll know if it came true. We need to be more specific with our wishes. Right. Like whenever blowing on my birthday candles, I think that the movie liar, liar. Kids wish came true and his dad can't lie, right? So you need to make it specific. That's the moral of the story. Specific wishes guys specificity is key. The teen choice awards where this weekend and we've got the winners complete list. Riverdale was a big winner, and that's really all we care about. They also won because they flew private there and back and I, I don't care about the words. I care about the logistics. One hundred play was it. I think CW has a plane because I remember last year to Comecon. Some of them were late and they got on a plane with Melissa Benoist. Okay. Who is super girl on CW like it was definitely a CW plane. We'll see definitely has a plane because I feel like all networks have to what level are important enough to the network to fly, said plane, and now they got the whole Catholic meta lane. Vanessa AMI, lend they were like a living the life of Riley, and I'm just so happy for those kids guys. And you know what? Some in the industry home friends with when you're green in the industry and you're on a new show that gets very successful. You and the cast mates are tight as hell because you're not like divas yet, but it always gets to that place where like someone gets more successful or like there's drama, and I'm glad that the go casts haven't gotten there yet, but they're all shooting off so much like something's going to happen like it's too good to be true. Do you know what I mean? I agree, but I think I just hope that there are smart enough to know even if you don't like so and so and so's annoying. Baba just know like this, is it for you this good as it's gonna get enjoy every fucking minute. Hollywood. They don't. They don't understand gratitude. No, they really don't accept. I've been seeing some funny like the riverdell fan accounts are hilarious, and I saw that yo- of Madelene like everytime coal talks in an interview where she's like rolling her eyes. I don't think she likes coal. Yeah. No, there's definitely like underlying drama that they're pushing under the rug because they know that this is their big break, but they're going to get to a point where it's like they think they're good. The show that always happens is no that you're not people hate the thing that made them successful, and it's going to go down and it's crazy. 'cause they're all dating hooking for most people like coal spouses like the breakout star and lily. But like for me, it's k. Jay and Cammie, I'm obsessed with was famous before it. I think I've interviews before they show after the first season they were like before we started filming. We were so excited to cold because of his acting Cody. He played Ross's son, both in friends, which is like the most iconic daddy, like they really did have these like blossoming careers, and they were still famous, but there just weren't working actors is your phone on vibrate? It is. And I'm sorry, I'm just feeling I felt it in my foot to like oriental. That was my phone, though. Whatever continue. But now it's like, I think the world has decided because when you think of who went to the gal colon lily, whereas if Kay Jay and Cammie were dating, I would have preferred to see them. I agree personally, but I think everyone else prefers Cohen, lily and you know it, I'll take whatever I and I don't wanna see the Nessim Morgan dating brielle's Michael head. So weird how the world is so small, it's like, are there really five eligible male teens in the world? Yes, that's crazy. Ryobi urbanism all of them and it's Donna Christly. That's crazy. And I just I'm loving the whole. I just love everything that Riverdale does. So I saw a couple of pictures of the cast going up to their fort home and it was like all these kids and Marcus weight loss. And I was like, tooting mortgage villes ever feels like stupid. She actually know that market swallows his son was just cast to play young..

"A few moments before we started shooting where grand tonight would maybe look at each other and be like this is going to be really silly is this going to work and then we started filming and i lost any fear i had because we were having such a good time we were having so much fun filming it that there was no way that at least it wouldn't make someone smile and no flying no flying no stunts that horrible to be in that thing that rig it can be painful there have been days where i've actually gotten a down now to sort of science we have sort of a like three strikes and you're out policy so they get three takes each setup because it's it can be really painful it's fun for like the first hour and a half and then you're like many times in a stationary position and doing what just like mike attached to a fork essentially and on hip picks it's the same system that they used for christopher reeves the technology has changed the dorm room no i miss is improved because it's all green and they can like do crazy cgi stuff to it but i'm still like just in hip picks attached to the ceiling and they're kind of waving me around and now i have you know you have to hold yourself horizontally and that's a lot of effort and you core stabilization and i hate planking so olympic training do i have to fly in this episode why not go to a song i have to fly every episode so we've had now we consolidate it to one day it's great because you know spoiling when you get to season for figure out you get a routine for these kinds of things and they get easier so it's great to have you on this show for one year so you don't know we always end in a snippet of song no no no anik knows that made maybe so everybody does it so is there a song in your heart is there some carole king song that you sing in this that's just the gentle that hits you that resonates for you my favorite song to sing is it's too late really can you give us a taste of it stayed in bed home lawn and just pass the time there's something wrong you can be no the night and one of us is changing may be we've just start dry but i love it so much thanks for joy to talk great to see

"I have do that every time oh like i just i'm not doing that concentrating on too many other things and they're just technical things like there was one time i this is one of the most embarrassing moments of my career still i wanted to they the i eighty was very sweet and it was like oh you can yell action this time because he knew how new i was and i was standing right under the boom mike and i didn't realize so i yelled action at the top of my lungs and the boom operator had his headphones on and he dropped his knees buckle i thought i'd bursts his eardrums i thought i had made this poor man go death i it was traumatizing best friends this day you actually i remembered episode of glee which is funny because it's a strange irony where you were in some was at wonder woman cost outfit her was what has woman fierce well that's a great name that sear okay woman fears see i think you have to careful each thing you did because it's gonna come back there you are singing send in the clowns to no one yes and now at the stephen sondheim then you're woman fear i would just be watching everything what is this experience for you now playing this is season for you're going into yeah on the cw fun flying around yeah i mean it's it's the most challenging job i've ever had it so physically taxing and and involved and it's really pushed my limits of you know what i can what i'm capable of as an creatively to because essentially the comic book genre can be very formulaic but our show what i'm very proud of is that it has so much heart and taking a character that is as i conduct as she is and has been around since the fifties and has had all of these at rations of of you know hairstyles and outfits and personalities and dilemmas that she faces it's sometimes daunting to bring that to life and also the pressures have been challenging too because every day i go to work i think of my audience and what we're saying to them and it's young girls that i do this show for this just it i know their fans and other demographics you're not doing it for me that's right but we have conversations every day to it's is very important to me especially that what we're saying in the message woody are portraying to these girls are ones of empowerment and optimism and hope and and so that's been really challenging to want to the audience of girls that see you do they recognize you immediately and say no not not always in my day to day life it's very normal and i don't get recognized very often i do obviously outside of the stage door i dunno i blend in really easily i think i always have i think it's kind of interesting too that you did that episode where we had the musical version of supergirl and the flesh yeah yeah we did that we tap dance we were tap dancing superheroes did that come from well greg berlanti are executive producers massive theater fan he actually went to college for he went to art school and i think wanted to be an actor first and then started directing so i think that was his idea and he's always wanted to do it and he casts a lot of people on his universe the on the cw our musical theater people there's victor garber and grant guston is very talented carlos on the flash he was in once on broadway there's a lot of theater actors yeah a lot of glee people so yeah darren criss was in the yes it's a lot of musical people d did you guys all say when it wasn't you people who came up with the idea was greg so yeah is this little bazaar the we had.

"Even more than summer stock i'm telling you we used to rehearse show for a week have two days of tech rehearsal and then we would run for three months and i was doing that when i was like twelve or thirteen because you can't tell what that aren't into going to do no sometimes they've eaten a weird like fishing pan and aren't feeling well like it's theirs unpredictable plow through also you worked in disneyland to right we did well that wasn't even work that was i wasn't a show choir so glee was very i knew that world i didn't do show choir through my school i did show choir through this dance studio that i took classes at and we traveled to disneyland every year it was kind of the most fun i think i'll ever have in my entire life because it was me and twenty of my closest friends we were all weirdo theater deeks that only understood each other all it's perfect yeah yeah and then we would just run around disneyland together warming performed medleys of musicals we did a wars stages that no one i mean no one watches the shows 'cause everyone's too busy writing rights but it was like this panel to like pinnacle for us that we were performing to land they stages in each park and we would do like sometime medleys like one of my solos was send in the clowns at disneyland how trying to think of all these angst ridden son hunt songs and you're on the stage now of the stephen sondheim i know it's such an irony that you you have you really made so your singing send in the clowns to a bunch of families who are waiting online for the next ride wow wait nothing for you didn't standing there doing that and wondering if anyone is listening to me no one was well must have been that ryan murphy was hanging out at disney man i all you're in you do send in the cloud and said i must have melissa is that how to happen you know what it would be a much better story if it did happen way but it's a lot the way it happened is less exciting really was going to college and new york at the school called marymount manhattan on the side and i had started auditioning and got called in to jim garner hans office and never in my wildest dreams expected it to happen because i'd seen glee and i knew i every time i watched it i was like why no these kids i was one of them i know this world and i mean i had a pretty drawn out process i screen tested three times for that show i think and retouched does it seem like much given no but it's stressful for month you're auditioning over and over and over again in meeting networks and i also was so unfamiliar with that the television sphere i had no knowledge of it very naive to what went into that process and then all of a sudden within a month i had packed a suitcase with almost all my clothes and never really left away for a couple of years was it was an easy transition for you to come into a show that everybody already knew each other and were functioning as this unit i mean it was it was i i wouldn't qualify it as easy because that job was difficult just in essence because we had on top of filming twentythree episodes we had rehearsals and we had to record music and we had to record dance numbers which takes a lot of time and effort and it was really established so i was kinda thrown into the ring so to speak also really hardly ever working on camera so it was a huge learning curve for me to say the least and i had some i had some epic fails i'll be on really what was the most stressful moment you had good well i mean there were moments where i didn't know that you had to stand on a mark i just thought you could make new blocking for every dating of war you want me to.

"Hi everybody i m peter travers welcome to popcorn where we tell you what happened in the culture and my guest today melissa benoist is not only supergirl and not only does a lot of jobs to a lot of things but now the sided two eight performances a week on broadway as carol king and beautiful the carole king musical so welcome to the show thank you for having me ready to take on the world this deeb you on broadway it's got to be hugely exciting absolutely it was what i always wanted before i got into television and film whatsoever all i did growing up was theater and musical theater specifically and being on broadway was always may dream so this is sort of wish fulfillment so nothing left then there no no mounts for you dived on it do you have any nerves yeah absolutely really yeah it depends on who's in the audience if i don't know anyone there it's fine but my opening night was you could say i had an out of body experience the first five minutes of being on stage and prior to being on stage i i didn't know if i was going to make it there's a lot of moving parts in this show yeah and there's a lot to remember and i haven't sung live and really longtime plus you know there's pno and you're right it's a lot of components that you have to kind of keep up here for three hours and i don't stop moving what did you know of carole king i grew up listening to her music we would take road trips i didn't fly in a plane until i was like fifteen years old so we drove everywhere and we were take turns every hour on the hour different member of family got picked music so my mom always picked tapestry and other carole king albums and linda ronstadt bonnie rates and singer songwriter women will sure what were you simon i picked like at the time broadway musical soundtracks and disease tracks and but i would sometimes pick carole king my sisters and i all loved her so i grew up from the time i can i as long as i can remember my mom played her music i didn't know any of her personal life though which i doing research yeah to for this show beautiful the beginning of her it's the brill building it's her writing these incredible songs as if they're nothing like okay today i'll do we used to love me tomorrow exactly disaster noon i'll do something else it's creative genius on a dime and also going through her marriage and difficulties of that and making all that come together yeah it's a journey it's a journey i mean what the story that we're telling in this show is it spans like a decade but a little bit more than that and we stop at the forefront of kind of her jumping off the precipice into her solo career and open and releasing tapestry which obviously changed your life and there's a sense in this show and what's really moving about it is that she warns to be independent yes it is finding her self and her femininity and what being woman means are empowerment and individuality owning it that's right because it's great to see she was taking care of everybody else i mean she started it was late fifties right into the sixth days where she had the dream i'll be a write these songs and maybe later i'll sing them right but i'm going to be a wife i'm going to be a mother i'm going to these are my jobs these are my main that's what she wanted and i do think that that makes very happy and fulfilled how did this all start for you denver where i grew up actually has a really big theater scene and a lot of amazing artists there and i kind of grew up doing children's theatre and dinner theater and actually prepare you for everything if you can do dinner theater you can do anything.

"Any time i believe in actor has the ability or opportunity to play a real life character especially someone who served in the us military or is currently serving i is the ultimate honor waco is the second true life character that i've played on ironically the second truelife us military character i played i played james saw and us navy seal in lone survivor ironically with taylor kitsch who is the lead who plays david koresh in waco as well it it's it's always a weird by you're you're you're creating something that really happened you're transforming into a character that really existed or still living how do you how do you recreate something this special i mean there's there's a certain energy onset there's a creepy nece because the sets especially on waco we start with ruby ridge in idaho than sit there and later moved to the actual waco compound that david crushed bill with his branston videos both those places when you see life footage or if you recall seeing life but it's on cnn back in ninety three and ninety two or whatever they have the exact house the exact cars the exact close that's hanging on the drying rack exact swing set that's in front of the it is so weird because it is so real you know and to be on in a life that like that with with the production team that we had and obviously our mazing director john doe and and our producer jude out like they were awesome like i said i worked with taylor and lone survivor we played us navy seals we were both in great shape and then to see taylor in santa fe new mexico were filmed i bumped into him at the gym i could not i thought it was david koresh he was so emaciated he had the hair he had this hoodie on she was riding the bike and i was it was him it was david koresh man and i think they i think casting and production did an excellent job in finding people that you know michael shannon is is is breathtaking this thing and you know they got melissa benoist from supergirl to play david crushes wife it casting did a phenomenal job like to say the very least.
