I've had so many therapists right to take me out of my feelings over the years that i know when people are in that feelings you have to let them take it. As far as they're going they need to go. They will take themselves out of it when they've had enough and for some people that may be a three minute conversation for other people. They may sit in thirty five minutes but you have to allow people their reality and their experience and let them get to those feelings. Taking people out of it does nothing. And if you don't do the work as a therapist or a coach and you haven't gone to those places see. Nobody can take me where. I haven't been to uncomfortable so doing the work yourself and getting to the darkness to crazy painful hurtful slob. You can sit there yourself and live with it. You can sit with somebody else. And that's what people need. I was lucky enough to find a therapist. That was incredible. She went everywhere that i needed to be and she'd never once took me out of what i was feeling and i learned to trust that i could go as deep star is i needed and when i would look up. She was sitting across from me. And that's what i try to give to. Other stu i wanna thank you for sharing this very real authentic look at trauma and for being willing to open up to that vulnerability to revisit that passed with us. I'm so grateful for that today. We were telling you about some of the hardship that truckers were going through out here over the road but today we want to tell you about some of the good things that are going on. My name is Stephanie. Hope and I'm the owner of lucky steer so in the middle of last week denise and I wheeled in to the lucky steer restaurant and what can at Ohio It's a family restaurant. My Dad started with this company when it was fifteen years old when it was a chain and it came down to just one with left this particular unit was the last one standing and he purchased that when he was ready to retire. I took over and bought the restaurant from him. So it's IT'S GONNA staple in this community. I mean we've been here since sixty five sixty six. I think the building was built. We decided to stop because we seen post from a trucker. We knew that was touting. This steakhouse and the fact that they were letting trucks come in. I know we've had at least five on the lot at one time. And we don't were hesitant. We don't really want to go in. Because their signs carry out. Only I sorta half open the door and looked in there and lady came up and met us and I had my money out was getting ready to give it to her and she goes no. It's free so a few days later. I love how you say storytime the cutest thing every week you're like okay it story time like i'm in like junior kindergarten kindergarten. I love story time. Do you have any stories this week. Okay so i wish you cottage for the most people probably already know that i was at a cottage because he was all of my instagram stories by <hes>. We had such a fine week. I miss it already. Do you get the post vacation blues. Oh my god yeah. I get it bad <hes> like i'm just yeah it's like. I don't even like to go away because i i know what that feels like afterwards. It's like this little <hes>. I don't even want to say the word depression depression because it's not a depression but you like on you feel in <hes> so we went up to a cottage and every morning we'd like sit on the dog and the lake was beautiful and quiet and we listen into the birds. We'd have our coffee so i missed so much by oh my god not so i started for you. God here we go nick pointed out it. All three events happen in one day and he's like seib little embarrassing moments multiple times a day like it does not surprise him at all. I wonder if it can be last resold in the car. You know when you told that story though just to take you back again. I didn't realize when you were telling me in this room that you were naked i didn't i know that you had taken your whole bathing suit off. Like why didn't you just pull it to the side. I don't know i i didn't i just so like i knew come. I'm in so i just tried to like. Get it off as fast as i could but anyway okay so tell me what's going on. We are at the cottage and my parents were away. It's like get groceries or whatever so it was brielle meal nick and i down at the dock and <hes> you know the girls were getting ready to go swimming and this is exactly so nick turns to me and it's like eleven a._m. And i had on a cute little bikini from libyan rose like a different top a top and bottom and nick looks at me and he's like babe. You're bottoms are on inside out so my tag sticking out and this always happening. I wear clothes goes inside out all the time. I actually do as well do they. Tell adam like whoever comes into the dryer is how it's going on. So if anyone comes up i feel it's mom life. You're like what are you trying to get on his past. You've got so. I'm like oh no problem. I'm like no no one's around. It's really quiet so i pull like i'm i'm standing on the dock facing the lake and i take my bottoms off. Put them like turn them around. Pull them up and i look in in front of me not and there are two people on those boards called like wake ports like they're just like you know how they eat the paddleboard towards so there's two people on paddle boards paddle boards directly in front of me scaring me like they were like five feet from me. Did you have a clean shave. At least i did. That's nick. I'm michael at least texas shaved shaved everything so at least it was crazy. I looked up. I didn't think anyone was like i didn't even bother really looking because it was such a quiet morning and usually can look here if someone's coming along and nick just look semi shaved his head and i sink into my chair like i literally hit my face. I sink in my chair. They were steering like they're probably like what the lucky <music> doing so i think into my chair and i couldn't even make eye contact but they weren't like the next call over or anything where they five feet from me. No i know but like they weren't. You'll never see them again. So what her i was so i'm like i literally just showed that my right but jonah is here's my china. I don't think i'd get embarrassed by something like that. Talk just well maybe right now because i haven't shaved ears getting you just never know honestly and all of us that we're all at wonderland we were standing in line for water slide in the waterpark and a melia looks over and she's like right at that level. You have hair points that i would never take note that happens over time yet with my mom. We were at the beach at the cottage. We went to like this big beautiful beach and i looked down at my bikini line and and i was like cheesman strikers it was a forest. It's like before i had kids. Hair didn't even go down so passes like so far is like the you know. I don't even know down my god. I really don't want to have a bad image of my late. China yeah is he like you kind of just lose all l. dignity when you have kids but okay so that happened what else so there's just so then these are like little tiny stories that it just kind of all added up like by the end of the day my mom and in my neck were just chirping me. They're like alex. This is what it's like going to cottage with you. It's absolutely ridiculous. So the second thing that happened benway's the lovely neighbors that were beside us notice we had kids rain and they had these like fun beach toys and they're like just take everything borrow it for the day. The kids will love it. They were so oh sweet so they gave us this really big tube like when that you would use for boating <hes> but they're like yeah. Just use it in the water so i was sitting in the water. There was like mesh underneath so so comfortable so relaxing and all of a sudden i like i just moved my little net and the bottom completely breaks and i fall in the fall all under the water broke. I broke that thing and i have no idea how i did it with my mom and molly just tear them me. My mom was like do honestly just so i go over to the neighbors explain broker to maybe they baited you and actually knew it was broken. <music> god i literally just went right through the water. It was raining and then the third time so my mom brielle and i went canoeing k. so moms i just love your face and you're telling these stories because you just can't keep it together on the back i met the front brielle's in the middle like she's sitting all cute in the middle and so we're we're making our way back to the cottage and we pull up to the dock but we were going a little too fast so next like alex you've because he's standing on the dock great to kinda like within like alex use your row to slow down 'cause i was at the front and i wasn't quite sure how to do that but i had this great idea idea that i would and it happened so fast so i used my row and like just like hit it against the dog and stop <hes> cane so we were like pulling up. He's like alex usua- row. Use your oaks. He wanted me to use it in the water and i just like brought it forward and a used it against the dock pat. I fell backwards in so fast. I fell backwards into the canoe. I'm between heels legs and she's just staring at me with like st face like what are you doing and my mom was dying but didn't explain so unexpected it was like i thought that i could stop it no problem yeah but it just like the. I don't know the yeah well. Actually it's an anger that no one caught any of these months. I can't run because i i was crying. Laughing nick doesn't laugh like he has like this poker face and he's like typical like he. He's not mad about it but he's just seen it so many times that that it doesn't faze him at all. You know what i mean like. Oh man alex. You are so fun that is amazing. I don't have really any stories of of stuff going on this week. Except for i have my period again which is just has been battling. Oh my god no. It's like kerry in two point. Oh down their own weren't didn't you buy yet. No i use the <hes> no well yes yes and no so i bought the <hes> the luna patterns which are awesome but yesterday was so torrential like no they worked. I just use them all so now. I just got to wash him but i actually by yesterday because when i posted yesterday on instagram about that little coach that used to keep everything in yeah someone messaged me and they're like you need to try the diva cup. Have you tried the diva cup. I have and and what are your thoughts so i was using the diva cut for a long time and then i noticed that maybe this is tim. I but i have a really hard time taking it out without it hurting okay so i've stopped using it because it just became really uncomfortable interesting. You had the wrong size lady different different sizes now but this is the smaller size in it hurts survey so i know anyway he's saying. I hear you carry in in michigan. You demonstrate but you know so. I used it years and years ago and i just couldn't ever get it right. I think it was before four kids but it is true. I do find it trick yeah and then someone message me yesterday. They're like you have like because they they know i guess i promoted the luna pads before but it's the same maker acre luna pads and the diva cup. I think so she's like you had to try to and i'm like well. I did before but i didn't really you know anything of it but <hes> i am i purchased. We're just off amazon last night's. An Interview with Carmen Ejogo of 'True Detective'
"I'm thrilled today to have as my guests. Karma jogo whose work. I just think is spectacular. Thank you. This is where we're going to start today talking about what you did with true detective on season, three because EMMY people, I know you're out there and you're thinking this over and look at that face should remember. Yeah. Look it. But, you know, everything that you've done from playing Kereta Scott King from being the president of match. Right. Yes. What is it? The magical congress Makusa. So I. Yeah, so I'm the president of the American wizards associated. Course you are. That's my type of couse lamb. And that's the life is an actual informed for many things. Yeah. I read a quote from you that I just want to ask you about before we start to get into this, because it is probably a blade is saying, it doesn't sound like you'd say you said something about Hollywood not knowing what to do with someone who looks like you. That was true. I would say when I first out around a long time. Oh, KOMO and doing this. What to do with beautiful and intelligent and talented. I, I think what I meant when I said that was the, at the time when I first got when I first came to the states and started working with took IPE out the ninety s and that's quite different to where we're at right now in the industry, this good so much. Yeah, there's been such positive shift that's happened in the past, like five five six years, that recently. So when I first came here, maybe twenty five thirty years ago that long. Age abate. With the snapper. I think that I had I'm Bishop for myself being leading actress and doing certain kinds of roles really serious and had reels live gumption and, and I wanted to be more than just the girlfriend will the pretty sort of, you know, extracurricular character in the in the movie, and I don't think that the industry was quite ready to put me in that position because I'm not not a white girl, you know. And I was the time I was, you know, I it seemed like it was my best years, you know as an honor Jew. That's what you'll told the. Yeah. That's what they tell you outs like eight to ten years, right, this, and then goodbye. We'll, but what I didn't know yet was that she might my real move understanding of myself, and my work, and my cross in what I was meant to be doing wasn't gonna come to later. And I think the industry knew that yet either. And so twenty five years ago, I kinda. I was I was not. I didn't have a place. They didn't know what to do with me. And I'm glad that I stuck had it, you know, I, I had kids and I went into other things for bit. And then came back back to an industry that finally figured out that you can have someone that's a real woman, that's not a twenty two year old and that could be the time that she's most viable, and she doesn't necessarily, you know, she can be of color, and that, that can be really a viable idea to, and that, she can even sometimes wear has supernatural in crazy in that can be okay. Lychee had moments where I would be that close to getting a job. And then the, the executive student would be like, what are we gonna do that, you know, it'd be that kind of reaction twenty years ago? So, so much has changed, and I'm so glad because it means that I get to reap the benefits of that. And it also means that, you know, actresses coming up behind me getting to really enjoy possibilities without having to go through all kinds of ridiculous securities that I had to navigate let's just. True detective as as a way in to us discussing your career and what's happening with because on the surface, it would look like. Okay. Maharshtra Ali is the star. He's the detective who's been trying to solve this crime, and he has some woman, he meets who they live together. They have children together. But as those eight episodes, move along your character just takes hold. Yeah. And as he is waking up to who your character is. So we're way, and we're seeing things is that detraction? Yeah. Makes you say true detective that is perfect in this new world that we live. Sure. I think, yeah, the character that allowed to self actualize over eight episodes, and really flourish, as a woman that has had a family that has spent years, trying to release sort of be the crush to Amanda. It needed that sort of support, and has found a way to the other side of that and is still viable and is still going becomes the autism. She wants to be all of those things are exciting to me to explore into brings the screen because that's so much that so much the journey of so many women, you know that it, it's with time and with sort of self acceptance that, you, you get to that place. And, and to Nick Lotto's great credit. He really understood that about women or this woman. That was a journey that was going to be exciting to explore and it's funny because, you know, for an audience when you first meet her she doesn't. She doesn't offer the goods in that way tool. You don't really know if this is going to be, you know, somewhat archetypal dynamic between between Wayne and Amelia. You know, does will it be will will get to be more than that? And, and Nick wrote something that is really quite extraordinary. And with great honor, I got. Two. To allow Melia to become this character. That goes from something that's very understated. And quiet, you know, Mitchely with voice, I you know, I sort of damned panta to some degree when we first meet her, she's quite reflective of Wayne's personality. And then by the end episode eight, she's really become Nick secret weapon in the series, even when dead. Yeah, absolutely. She is subconscious poetic voice. There's so many ways in which she really takes hold of the show and unknown. Sees it coming, which is quite the, you know, sometimes character will just like Bashar heavily read the script, and you're like okay that I can see how it's going to just be glorious on screen, and it's be so obvious. Now it's going to be amazed Oscars. Yeah. Right. Exactly. And then some other characters of very quiet that beautifully written them. But that just as exciting to do if you can get it, right. And that was the challenge for this was to find a way to on. Unravel into bring to life and bring off the page as as, as the actor employed, something that was delightfully written. But that is so quiet in ways, and such a sort of slow reveal that sometimes the harder work than, than the thing, that's like. Well the being here I am is hard to sustain over eight hours. There's something about your work where where you do something that makes us come to you, which to me is the best compliment, I can give an actor that you're, you're not writing it all out for us and saying here, here's the cliff notes for you to understand to. It is used you watch and you wonder stand. Does this give you this particular project? Give you the time as an actor to develop this. It's television, so it could be more rushed. But was it? Ooh. Well, it was it was overwhelming. It was eight episodes that I really had to know. And having the back of my head on day one that that was new to me. You know, when you have time I've done a little bit of television, and you learn the first episode and you have a sense of the overview, but, but you go through piecemeal with this for many reasons I had to really know it all and have in my head from day, one all the lines learnt complete understanding of all the time lines 'cause they would jump shoot things traction like time line thing that Nick lights to do. We know for that reason, and then also just because to have a real sense of what the shape of things would be over the season. It was important to just to start with, with all of that in in my databank, and, and that's that was a lot of material. You know piles of scripts, I was it was it was quite overwhelming. But we did we kind of had enough time to get it together. I don't know how hard you are on you. You know. Little bit. You can tell. Right to do. But is there a moment, not like saying this is my best seen this is it? But that when you look at you in this season, three of true detective that you can look at even moment and say I got close to being satisfied with and coming coast to what I wanted to do in that scene. Is there a moment? Gosh. There. There are a few moments, whether they made them to the screen or not. Is often the challenge dodgers. You know, sometimes you do things that you'll really excited. Yes. To the screen. Their couplings between Hirschman I again, I think just because we sat in the truth of the rhythm of the thing. Like, even though like hush often was like not really sure what my process was he wasn't. Really? Sure what I was doing how I was doing. I knew I felt very confident in knowing if I just trusted the way it was written. And even if on the day, it felt very disjointed at times and often did between he and I, I just knew that it was going to feel really authentic when it was together. I just knew it, and so they're, they're couple of scenes table between he nine where it was one of those things with a beat just wasn't really. It was just all you just felt all. And there's a scene at the one of the first things I had to film, I think it might have been the first has a foam. It's just me and him at the in the school in the classroom. And I'm and I'm you know. This very strange of chemical energy between he and I the, the two characters there's a lot of subtext and as being spoken. And again, I could just tell I was sitting in the right way. And sometimes scenes Bill is though, they are satisfying the obese up, then sometimes seen just feels as though, it's, it's. Is it? I don't know for sure what kings the cameramen over the director. But I know it's working him and I right now. And when I was able to trust that stuff that's the stuff. I I'm proudest office on the screen. Yeah. How did this all start for you go back to the show because how I know no win win.

Top takeaways from Michael Cohen's testimony
"Today, he answered questions about Trump's communications with Roger stone relating to WikiLeaks about hush money payments to stormy Daniels about possible tax fraud about his own personal credibility and plenty more. So let's break down. What's new what's an actual legal liability for Trump if anything, and of course, the politics of it and here with me to do that our editor and chief Nate silver comes down. It's going well here in spent all day watching television. I guess it is my job. Yeah. Yeah. How was it? I'm one of those people where I like go to a museum like after the first hour, my eyes start to glaze over here. He lose concentration. Well, I think actually part of the problem is I think it got more interesting at the end toward the end because in part because you have all these old fogies who like are not asking show. Questions or grandstanding right toward the end. You had from I think both Republicans and probably more. Democrats more sharp lines of questioning more interesting things to say more differentiation. And so I think people should tune in for the for the second half. All right. We'll get more into that momentarily. But also here with us. Our senior writer Perry. Big junior Perry. How's it going? Hey, good to be with you. Thanks for joining us. And also we have five thirty contributor and legal reporter Amelia Thompson devoe him Melia. How's it going? Alan let's start with you a meal of the person who's helped us track. What kind of legal liability is on the table for Trump? Did we learn anything new regarding any possible criminality in anything that Trump did as either a candidate or as president today? Well, see we did get a clarification on one important thing. Which is the question of what happened with Michael Cohen's testimony previous testimony to congress, and whether the president directed him to lie there had been reporting from BuzzFeed saying that Trump had told him to lie to congress, which is a crime. And then there is a sort of immediate question about whether that reporting was true, and it seems based on Cohen's testimony that it was sort of partially true. Trump didn't come up to him and say, hey, I want you to light a congress. So it's not clear what my role was. In the Trump Tower Moscow deal at at a moment when it wouldn't look good for me, politically, but he sort of told Cohen to do it and not so many words in an indirect way. And the question the center, which that is illegal little bit more up in the air, but it's important to have sort of that clarification, at least based on Cohen's testimony. And then there were a couple of really interesting moments where Cohen got asked questions about the investigations in the southern district of New York. And those are the prosecutors that folks may remember had initially charged Cohen with campaign finance violations and other crimes back in August and cone, which sort of stop, and I can't talk about this because it relates to an ongoing investigation. And he even indicated that he's he's still cooperating with prosecutors in the hope of potentially his cooperation lessening his. Sentence in the futures. So that was really interesting sort of suggested, we know that prosecutors in New York are looking into the Trump organization's role in those payments or potential role and the inaugural committee. And so it was interesting to know the Cohen is still working with them. And of course, raises the question about what he might be telling them. So those are the headlines in terms of legal liability for Trump, which is I think perhaps what the Democrats were most interested in today pair, you've also been following these investigations what stuck out to you either from a legal standpoint or a political standpoint from a legal standpoint Amelia's hit about some things that might be different threads. But nothing jumped out in terms of the with the New York prosecutors investigating or in terms of Muslim militant getting imparted that think at times Cohen hinted. I can't talk about certain things because they're still in legal limbo. I think he was limited in that. In terms of the politics of are. Or the health? Congress handle that I was struck by two things. One is not shocking. But the Republicans members below time attacking Cohen calling Cohen Aligarh, and pointing out how much he had lied didn't really Cohen has some great detail in criticizing the president's behavior and conduct. That wasn't a lot of pushback against that. The Republican members themselves seem to concede a fair amount of it. And then on the democratic side. I did get the sense that they they they didn't really use the time very much. I didn't think to any new details to our overall understanding of the Russian story or Trump overall. I'm not sure that I think Cohen calling his former boss racists. And a conman cheater was interesting, but I'm the Democrats. Nestle told us much new in in the last four or five hours. "Been one of the defining issues in the US midterm elections. Hundreds of enduring migrants part of the so-called caravan that President Trump wants to go home have arrived in the capital, Mexico City, they've been taken to temporary shelter at a local. Sports stadium. I asked will grant who's traveling with a caravan. How wear the migrants were of their role in the US midterms. They are pretty aware of that media. I mean, obviously, the sheer number of international media who's accompanied them on this journey or appeared at least for parts of it has made it clear to them. Just how widespread and international that the focus on them has become. Yes, you're quite right. They are really the key element of one of the key elements of this midterm election. And I think as that draws closer they are very very aware of their role. Nevertheless, sometimes I think in in the caravan they all in a bit of a bubble as well. So he's both ends of the scale in the sense of not actually being able to to see beyond the next town. The next few hundred kilometers wherever they need to get to next, you know, sometimes that very much within within the group itself. And how difficult of an issue is this for the Mexican authorities have. Concerned are they about the possible impact on relations with the US? Well, domestically in Mexico comes at an interesting time to is obviously the very end of the anti Capena near to administration and not yet taken over by the president-elect, and there is men were local law. So in a sense, it's huge huge return to and that goes as well for the migrants themselves by and large.
