Doyle but John McCarthy and goalkeepers of his ilk might be in high demand, goalkeepers of his ilk meaning penalty kick experts. Yes. Shot stopping experts in specifically from the spot. He jumps up, right? Why not? We just need to know that it's gonna last. Yeah? Yeah, I mean, it just specifically because of the lack of extra time. You could see maybe more defensive managers deciding to make a sub in the 88th minute to get their penalty kick expert onto the field and into the shootout. No guarantee, of course, but it's something fun to think about. I'm mostly with weebie in terms of I like the idea that this is going to create momentum. Night after night after night for, I think, about the first ten days. There's going to be an MLS playoff game or several to watch. And that's something the league has never had before. And we as great as single elimination has been the past few years. We have tended to lose that momentum or at least not really start to build it until the conference semifinals. So I think it'll be a step forward on that. I do think we may be reserved judgment. That said, we need to get it clear that this is not the same three game series that we had 20 years ago. 20 years ago, it was first to 5 points. Three points for a win, one point for a draw. So these games could end in draws 20 years ago. It was a mess. I hated it so much. This is like literally you have to win. That's two out of three, whether the win comes in regulation or via penalty shootout. So that's why John McCarthy Tim melia, other superb shot stoppers in terms of penalties,

Revolutions
The February Revolution in Russia
"The entrance of a bunch of socialist into the ministry and the endorsement of the coalition government by the soviet seemed to signal that the fragile period of dual power was drawing to a close the liberal and socialist wings of the revolution appeared to be combining under the banner of revolutionary unity. The man who most personally exemplified this new spirit of unity was alexander kerensky who had carved out a space for himself in both camps and was now serving as minister of war in the spring of nineteen seventeen. He was probably the single most energetically influential leader in russia. Today he will embark on an audacious plan he believes will permanently solidify. The gains of february rallied. The empire back to patriotic health and launch a new russia portugal aureus future in the spring of nineteen seventeen. The russian army would launch a major offensive to prove to themselves and to the world the revolution had not weakened russia but instead infused her with a mighty power as kerensky took over as minister of war in the first week of may nineteen seventeen the long and frozen winter approached the spring thaw and the question of how the february revolution would impact the war. Now had to be answered as we discussed last week now ex foreign minister pavel melia cough. Believe most of the anti czarist revolutionary energy that had been building since nineteen fifteen was driven by the catastrophic mismanagement of the war. And though melia cough let this analysis take him to the unsupported conclusion that there was nothing wrong with the composition of the army or the objectives of the war. Just its management. He was far from the only one who believed better run. War was meant to be one of the principal. results of the revolution. Kerensky himself was committed to the same idea but he believed the revolution would do far more than just shuffled around a few ministers and generals in kerensky view. The revolution had changed the very nature of the russian military. Infusing it with the new patriotic and democratic spirit that would propel it to glorious victory. Victory not on behalf of mir imperialist greed or territorial ambition but in the name of global freedom and global peace

I've had so many therapists right to take me out of my feelings over the years that i know when people are in that feelings you have to let them take it. As far as they're going they need to go. They will take themselves out of it when they've had enough and for some people that may be a three minute conversation for other people. They may sit in thirty five minutes but you have to allow people their reality and their experience and let them get to those feelings. Taking people out of it does nothing. And if you don't do the work as a therapist or a coach and you haven't gone to those places see. Nobody can take me where. I haven't been to uncomfortable so doing the work yourself and getting to the darkness to crazy painful hurtful slob. You can sit there yourself and live with it. You can sit with somebody else. I shouldn't say. Because i i looked at so many but i believe it was talking about You know for you know lubrication sexual function and believe it mentioned for the treatment of incontinence yet so this is citizens important one for us to discuss and i guess what i would say up front is in ways. I almost don't even really consider this tool really within the basket of conservative care. Because it's almost of going across the line where it's kind of almost really in that medical domain. The reason why. I say that is because it's us minimally invasive but it's still invasive and also you have to be an md to actually administer it right so it needs to be administered by a physician right and so when we look at okay and certainly in oakville ontario. Sixty eight coronas between us. Yes we have. We have consumed many coronas in feet many people. When looking at the film franchise would consider inadvisable or impossible but we have matched it. That's right and so we're gonna get the brass tacks right away. This movie f. Nine moffat saga has in its entirety of its run time two bottles of corona with drinking them and once seen to empties in the background of that same scene we only drank the ones with liquid in them and then gigantic seen with no lie center. Stage the largest bucket of corona. You've ever seen and so. We're going to act the clause that for giant buckets of corona instead of matching the bottle to bottle. We'll be drinking forties of corona familiar instead to blanket. Cast that scene but to start out with for this episode We john and i both have to drink one corona. Now do you want to. Do you wanna give the listeners. The bad news or shall i. The bad news is that apparently and I don't know if this is in correlation with nine coming out or if because it's fourth of july week but there was a run on come on corona's of familly are so very very unfortunately we are drinking corona light. Yes we are. Drinking corona lights That is a beer that i just tasted. I'd certainly did. Just as corona light. I went to gas stations and an heb shot up to texas and apparently corona extra which is what we are used to the light corny of slightly bitter sweet mexican logger by the fast and food. Melia is not in stock in any gas station or an heb. Not even like the huge cases i talked to some of the heb. And they said they can't keep in stock. And i think similar to how road accidents increase when fast and furious movies. Come out i think. Consequently the nation supply of corona briefly troughs. Just want to add that I feel like someone as wind someone as they build up and refine their ballot over over centuries defying wine drinking and tasting. And i feel like a similar way. I'd be building building this. This taste profile of craft beer for myself. And i literally just tasted all wash right off my tongue all the refinement has been debris from your mouth and your mind if i could describe the taste of corona lights. It's been a long time since i had a corona. I think by the end of our of our supplementary series of the eight films we develop of a taste for corona on and would enjoy it and order it infrequently however this is a it's like it's very watery. It's a light beer that's expected. It's corey but very sweet and a pretty unpleasant way. It doesn't have like the fun tickly. Hops finish of your typical corona extra. It's not enjoyable beer. It's like every sip is raising my body temperature by degree. It's it's not great and for that reason. I will endeavour to finish as quickly as possible that we can move onto the corona familiar. Which is the serious contender episode. Yeah we have to finish it before the episode is over to that end is chugging has light not chugging just drink his their assault taste or is that just there's like a little lime salt taste but not in a pleasant way oh man languages saline taste it is. Let's forego this talk of the town. We don't know how our bodies work anymore. Let's forego this talk up top. They've waited long enough john. They've waited a year more plus. This film was delayed. I was thrown off by the way he describes like i said basically that every in that in that the religious sense in the in the way that anybody goes about it basically any kind of sacred feeling even and especially the ones who grabs his pagan are basically good and basically a step on the way to To the the the the the finalisation the the fulfillment of that feeling in revelation which is distilled religion religion to him is is man's construction of his relate man's turn towards god and revelation and his guys turn turn towards me right right. Yeah it's just a of from for me. I'm though experts so this may be more common that i really for me. It was kind of bespoke definition. That i m really come across or and i'm not. I'm not sure how helpful it is. Yeah i'm not. i'm not crazy about it either but but we can come back to that. Let's talk about kind of the central the way he opens. The book is interesting. Because it's the same way that you open your book The prodigal church actually which is to talk about this idea of a pure smaller church you. You're you're referencing The kind of misquoted benedict the sixteenth address which i will mention that that famous quote from him we we actually recorded that in our catholic or other cascal culture audio books. It's important note to because that was nineteen. Seventy in this is the mid sixties. And you can see. They're both operating. They're both operating in europe. The operating in kind of a similar melia and hyundai some different conclusions. Actually which is. Yeah so so the first chapter this book is something like a church for the poor and the the problem that he's dealing with is this problem of a religion that is accessible to the masses at whatever level that they're going to engage with it essentially not that he thinks that it doesn't need to be kind of fully personalized and spiritualized but he. He thinks that he references the legalization of christianity. With constantine and this this this new problem that augustine had to to deal with I think augusta and talks about the I don't remember the latin. But he basically talked about this now. Three categories know. There's the the really good they're really bad. And the wholly good nor wholly bad and these are the mass of christians who are now able to enter into the church because it no longer requires heroism simply to bear the name of christian And some people..

I don't want to put the jinx out in the universe but say we had another centreback. Go down That would probably be more catastrophic to the team's prospects than having precise play. So chris is. he's he's a good he's a good for a couple of game. Run every every season somebody gets hurt and get together there as well so hopefully that continues yup and by the way the the almost bookkeepers do exist. I just i just googled. Ms keeper and pulled up an article from two thousand twenty where they talked about the pool keepers. That were with the mls is back tournament. So i this is going going into this season a little injured so it's going to be curious to see how quickly they can sort of get healthy I i think i think. Dc maybe hold off on the pool keeper until they absolutely need to so probably. If chris sites were to go down then you might see them. Pull someone up and you and you mentioned it before the show like i would say rather than a bookkeeper. It make sense even. If you're just having a guy hold some gloves. The sideline like allow allowed and goalkeeper can do that. I've seems crazy to have to go the route but stranger things have happened. I have seen games in which three goals have played. I have seen games in which the the emergency keeper has played forty. It's happened in anything can happen players but players playing goalie. Anything can happen so I don't think it's a bummer. That he close and fell out. But and who knows. Maybe find your find. Tim melia and he was was. He was an mls. Pokey pretend wasn't mls bookkeeper and then made it to sporting kansas city. And i'm looking forward to show today all right. Let's get right to it. What exactly is up. Because we've seen some of the literature on it. We've seen some of the partners. You guys have established seems pretty popular exciting technology on share. A little about what it is. You guys do show so am very quickly. Yahoos a an audio and video conversational tool. We are big differences in how. We've approached this platform to other social media. Iphones so we live on the publisher's website just like coming to would do. We look similarly in similar positions to cut where coming to usually place and you can leave at five second audio or video yet on websites like hail you know we. We hit some really big strides in the last year. So we can dak installed on about four hundred ninety five million pages across the united across the equality in a moment. And that's pretty much who we are and what we do all right so for audience to compare this to something. I brought up Some different technologies in my research from melia with discus. And i'm also familiar with live fire. commenting tools that have been used previously. Uh so this is most commonly Set up their mindset if you go to a website like let's say espn and you go down below. There's usually like a comment section a lot of times. Those comments sections are not actually built into the website. They are an external third party provider. That does this now. There's something about yet but that makes it uniquely different. What do you guys do. That's uniquely different the caveat back. Espn lanka's comments on their side. Just for i'm dating myself. There somewhere has commas. I wanna say yeah. Well you know i like you know. I don't wanna reveal. Actually where i go because people. Espn they decided that comments on no longer relevant so they decided to to to switch them off. Used generated continent disney Not very good friends. Illicit is calm. The comment section is often cesspool. Not gonna lie but it is. It is that's kind of like question. What makes us different mats. You know we approached if we saw a gap in the market where toxicity on the way we communicate is so unhealthy for for for us as human beings emotionally mentally. How we commu how we develop. These tools and ways of communicating online is a massive problem effects. Mental health affects our how we see ourselves our confidence levels and everything about it. And it's it's just a constant cesspool. Love just the worst parts of humanity.

Over the Road
Update From the Road April 14
"And Hey everyone we'll be back with episode five on Thursday but today we wanted to give you another update last time we checked in. We were telling you about some of the hardship that truckers were going through out here over the road but today we want to tell you about some of the good things that are going on. My name is Stephanie. Hope and I'm the owner of lucky steer so in the middle of last week denise and I wheeled in to the lucky steer restaurant and what can at Ohio It's a family restaurant. Sixties era brick building. My Dad started with this company when it was fifteen years old when it was a chain and it came down to just one with left this particular unit was the last one standing and he purchased that when he was ready to retire. I took over and bought the restaurant from him. So it's IT'S GONNA staple in this community. I mean we've been here since sixty five sixty six. I think the building was built. We decided to stop because we seen post from a trucker. We knew that was touting. This steakhouse and the fact that they were letting trucks come in. I know we've had at least five on the lot at one time. And we don't were hesitant. We don't really want to go in. Because their signs carry out. Only I sorta half open the door and looked in there and lady came up and met us and I had my money out was getting ready to give it to her and she goes no. It's free so a few days later. I called the restaurant and talk to the owner. So Stephanie I I was just blown away that you wouldn't take my money The other day what. What's up with that well When this all started One of the big problems we were gonNA have is we were gonNA. We knew we were going to have to throw out a lot of food. If we didn't use it quickly. And my general manager had called me and said you know I hear that the truckers are having a really hard time eating on the road and is there anything that we could do for them and I said you know what we're going to offer them forty percent off so we decided to do that and only the very first trucker paid and from that point on we have gotten so many donations from across the US that everyone after that has been completely and totally free. Yes we we were just overwhelmed with the people calling in saying I want to donate. I want to donate. I want to donate or a local volunteer firefighter. Company has donated pies right down to yesterday or local girl scout troop dropped off a whole box of. I don't know how many different boxes of girl scout cookies to get to the truckers for free. Sure we try to carry our own food and you know we have means of preparing if we need to but you know after about five days of that. Rib aisher tasted good. I'm so bad. And when this thing went viral. How is that like because I mean it it did go viral for you on? Social Media. It did I well. The funny thing was when I made that post. I didn't even post that. We were in Ohio. So we we've had people from Texas from Georgia to know. There are so many people out there that are appreciate it gives you a little a little faith in humanity. Again we We don't see that kind of kindness all the time and and I just WanNa thank you for that. Oh I'm glad you enjoy your trip here. And and that your food was good and and Grad we hope you wow Melia. I'll be back perfect. Perfect okay. Well we'll we'll sign off for now and thanks again for for talking to us a good day but by

What the episode was about an so? Well it's been a confusing one because we originally set. How how you wanted to do an episode milius spots didn't year yes so jade mine l.? Lady friend has been saying it's for so long. She's a beautician. She was like amy. You need to upset about this amount of people that come to me and ask what the are you know. Don't I don't shaking skin. I salute ongoing of this. All right all right anyway Let off with billy you talk about it because I've never had I've never had one. They sound fucking irritating but then later on I'm gonNA talk about chicken skin By the way if you don't know what chicken is actually say. It's like the kind of like pinpoint rough spotty skin making the buck serums on your cheeks on your legs and not very often on new face. skin yeah So yeah as flacco saying when we start looking into we found the couches. Polaris and it's because the both caused by the same thing but millions most any face I would just said in Ketosis polarises services generally across your body and and they are both caused by builds poof. Something who ran an which is something that you might have heard of quite quite low because is quite popular to get like carrots and hair treatments now am on. What it is is the main protein that kind of Foams as they uh of your skin but it also helps with the nails and hair so like a character in hair treatment is used to kind of like make the strand of hair stronger so kind of feel it any blocks where the coach has been damaged? Or you've got not much Collagen or whatever So yeah it's basically just what makes something in strong so Carrollton in the skin is to make sure that it regulates skin Regeneration make sure the skin cells healthy and kind of and what they should be doing and also prevent Cisco the cells from Diane obviously cells have a lifespan. And you need to make sure that you turn over which is why originals and acids really good because as soon as it dies then you kind of shed and you like that is gone. Let's make some new Skin cells so curtain tin basically. Just make sure the skin cells you've got healthy and prevents them from dying to early So that's kind of the main thing bull Carotene does also 'cause milks Boston chicken skin. Thanks Obama Ball. No sorry. I didn't decide to that is out the way go. Do you WANNA start with Melia aims. I shall so basically for all you look guys and Gals who have never experienced before so basically small tiny cysts with Whitehead Ed That can be found in clusters all on their own but they are absolutely painless on appear from nowhere. Oh fantastic Yeah they can develop develop without any real reason yet I quickly just interject that It's really difficult for people to know why cow tim builds so there's loads the study says still ongoing about it because it's just not really that well known an that you're going to list a few reasons as to how can be made worse 'em book just just from. The outset carried him build up like nobody really knows what happens. which just makes us more annoying So yeah just annoying like Oh my God. One thing caught my hungry so the client commoner on the nose in the area and they're also rarely common babies around the nose. Jose if you've ever looked at a really young child really young babies knows and it's got loads awhile dot the not spots. Yeah then commonly known as milk spas but they are media actually and their annoyance. Because if you've ever tried to pop on you'll know the is literally like China. Walk a mortar. It's impossible awesome. Oh they are rock solid inside. Oh you can't pump. That honesty. Never had one. Carl had quite a big lawn as far as they call like owned his I next as knows. 60-Second Science
Familiar Tunes Rapidly Jog the Brain
"Remember scrolling through the radio. Dial hoping at tune you liked would pop out of the static. You never had to listen to long to know you'd landed on. A hit has a very strong remarkably strong. Hold on us so that we it's enough to be exposed to very brief snippet of familiar song wrong for us to be able to recognize it Maria. An auditory cognitive neuroscientist University College London chait entertain recently studied. Just how quick that reflects lex. Is they started by asking ten volunteers to name a feel-good familiar song like this. Then the researchers searchers handpicked his second tune it sounded similar but was unfamiliar to the volunteer. They chop to both songs into tiny ebbets. Each less than a second long and then randomly interspersed them into a six and a half minute long track of song snippets as the snippets played. The scientists measured the volunteers brain activity the network of one hundred twenty eight electrodes and they monitored changes in pupil diameter to assign of arousal muscle and the researchers found that the listeners pupils dilated more rapidly when they heard familiar versus unfamiliar samples with just a tenth to a third of a second familiar Melia tunes also triggered a two step pattern of brain activation almost identical to that seen in other memory studies. Where the brain I recognizes something as familiar and then retrieves more detailed information about it? That pattern was absent for unfamiliar songs and for the Control Group. The results are in the Journal. Scientific reports this the study does have limitations. It used a small number of songs. It was hard to mask. The purpose of the study from the participants and the control group ended up being primarily international students from Asia since they had to be unfamiliar with every single song so their native languages and music backgrounds were different from the experimental group which was primarily students from a European background. Still for clinicians. Who WanNA use music as a therapeutic tool for patients with dementia for example this study might provide a few clues varies a a lot of interest in trying to develop So to speak objective measures of music enjoyment of music familiarity and This sort of paradigm might be usable in the sort of context because it doesn't require the participants to indicate anything they just listened. Passively clinician simply have to observe the neural fingerprints of hearing that same old song.

We went to like this big beautiful beach and i looked down at my bikini line and and i was like cheesman strikers it was a forest. It's like before i had kids. Hair didn't even go down so passes like so far is like the you know. I don't even know down my god. I really don't want to have a bad image of my late. China yeah is he like you kind of just lose all l. dignity when you have kids but okay so that happened what else so there's just so then these are like little tiny stories that it just kind of all added up like by the end of the day my mom and in my neck were just chirping me. They're like alex. This is what it's like going to cottage with you. It's absolutely ridiculous. So the second thing that happened benway's the lovely neighbors that were beside us notice we had kids rain and they had these like fun beach toys and they're like just take everything borrow it for the day. The kids will love it. They were so oh sweet so they gave us this really big tube like when that you would use for boating <hes> but they're like yeah. Just use it in the water so i was sitting in the water. There was like mesh underneath so so comfortable so relaxing and all of a sudden i like i just moved my little net and the bottom completely breaks and i fall in the fall all under the water broke. I broke that thing and i have no idea how i did it with my mom and molly just tear them me. My mom was like do honestly just so i go over to the neighbors explain broker to maybe they baited you and actually knew it was broken. <music> god i literally just went right through the water. It was raining and then the third time so my mom brielle and i went canoeing k. so moms i just love your face and you're telling these stories because you just can't keep it together on the back i met the front brielle's in the middle like she's sitting all cute in the middle and so we're we're making our way back to the cottage and we pull up to the dock but we were going a little too fast so next like alex you've because he's standing on the dock great to kinda like within like alex use your row to slow down 'cause i was at the front and i wasn't quite sure how to do that but i had this great idea idea that i would and it happened so fast so i used my row and like just like hit it against the dog and stop <hes> cane so we were like pulling up. He's like alex usua- row. Use your oaks. He wanted me to use it in the water and i just like brought it forward and a used it against the dock pat. I fell backwards in so fast. I fell backwards into the canoe. I'm between heels legs and she's just staring at me with like st face like what are you doing and my mom was dying but didn't explain so unexpected it was like i thought that i could stop it no problem yeah but it just like the. I don't know the yeah well. Actually it's an anger that no one caught any of these months. I can't run because i i was crying. Laughing nick doesn't laugh like he has like this poker face and he's like typical like he. He's not mad about it but he's just seen it so many times that that it doesn't faze him at all. You know what i mean like. Oh man alex. You are so fun that is amazing. I don't have really any stories of of stuff going on this week. Except for i have my period again which is just has been battling. Oh my god no. It's like kerry in two point. Oh down their own weren't didn't you buy yet. Popcorn with Peter Travers
An Interview with Carmen Ejogo of 'True Detective'
"I'm thrilled today to have as my guests. Karma jogo whose work. I just think is spectacular. Thank you. This is where we're going to start today talking about what you did with true detective on season, three because EMMY people, I know you're out there and you're thinking this over and look at that face should remember. Yeah. Look it. But, you know, everything that you've done from playing Kereta Scott King from being the president of match. Right. Yes. What is it? The magical congress Makusa. So I. Yeah, so I'm the president of the American wizards associated. Course you are. That's my type of couse lamb. And that's the life is an actual informed for many things. Yeah. I read a quote from you that I just want to ask you about before we start to get into this, because it is probably a blade is saying, it doesn't sound like you'd say you said something about Hollywood not knowing what to do with someone who looks like you. That was true. I would say when I first out around a long time. Oh, KOMO and doing this. What to do with beautiful and intelligent and talented. I, I think what I meant when I said that was the, at the time when I first got when I first came to the states and started working with took IPE out the ninety s and that's quite different to where we're at right now in the industry, this good so much. Yeah, there's been such positive shift that's happened in the past, like five five six years, that recently. So when I first came here, maybe twenty five thirty years ago that long. Age abate. With the snapper. I think that I had I'm Bishop for myself being leading actress and doing certain kinds of roles really serious and had reels live gumption and, and I wanted to be more than just the girlfriend will the pretty sort of, you know, extracurricular character in the in the movie, and I don't think that the industry was quite ready to put me in that position because I'm not not a white girl, you know. And I was the time I was, you know, I it seemed like it was my best years, you know as an honor Jew. That's what you'll told the. Yeah. That's what they tell you outs like eight to ten years, right, this, and then goodbye. We'll, but what I didn't know yet was that she might my real move understanding of myself, and my work, and my cross in what I was meant to be doing wasn't gonna come to later. And I think the industry knew that yet either. And so twenty five years ago, I kinda. I was I was not. I didn't have a place. They didn't know what to do with me. And I'm glad that I stuck had it, you know, I, I had kids and I went into other things for bit. And then came back back to an industry that finally figured out that you can have someone that's a real woman, that's not a twenty two year old and that could be the time that she's most viable, and she doesn't necessarily, you know, she can be of color, and that, that can be really a viable idea to, and that, she can even sometimes wear has supernatural in crazy in that can be okay. Lychee had moments where I would be that close to getting a job. And then the, the executive student would be like, what are we gonna do that, you know, it'd be that kind of reaction twenty years ago? So, so much has changed, and I'm so glad because it means that I get to reap the benefits of that. And it also means that, you know, actresses coming up behind me getting to really enjoy possibilities without having to go through all kinds of ridiculous securities that I had to navigate let's just. True detective as as a way in to us discussing your career and what's happening with because on the surface, it would look like. Okay. Maharshtra Ali is the star. He's the detective who's been trying to solve this crime, and he has some woman, he meets who they live together. They have children together. But as those eight episodes, move along your character just takes hold. Yeah. And as he is waking up to who your character is. So we're way, and we're seeing things is that detraction? Yeah. Makes you say true detective that is perfect in this new world that we live. Sure. I think, yeah, the character that allowed to self actualize over eight episodes, and really flourish, as a woman that has had a family that has spent years, trying to release sort of be the crush to Amanda. It needed that sort of support, and has found a way to the other side of that and is still viable and is still going becomes the autism. She wants to be all of those things are exciting to me to explore into brings the screen because that's so much that so much the journey of so many women, you know that it, it's with time and with sort of self acceptance that, you, you get to that place. And, and to Nick Lotto's great credit. He really understood that about women or this woman. That was a journey that was going to be exciting to explore and it's funny because, you know, for an audience when you first meet her she doesn't. She doesn't offer the goods in that way tool. You don't really know if this is going to be, you know, somewhat archetypal dynamic between between Wayne and Amelia. You know, does will it be will will get to be more than that? And, and Nick wrote something that is really quite extraordinary. And with great honor, I got. Two. To allow Melia to become this character. That goes from something that's very understated. And quiet, you know, Mitchely with voice, I you know, I sort of damned panta to some degree when we first meet her, she's quite reflective of Wayne's personality. And then by the end episode eight, she's really become Nick secret weapon in the series, even when dead. Yeah, absolutely. She is subconscious poetic voice. There's so many ways in which she really takes hold of the show and unknown. Sees it coming, which is quite the, you know, sometimes character will just like Bashar heavily read the script, and you're like okay that I can see how it's going to just be glorious on screen, and it's be so obvious. Now it's going to be amazed Oscars. Yeah. Right. Exactly. And then some other characters of very quiet that beautifully written them. But that just as exciting to do if you can get it, right. And that was the challenge for this was to find a way to on. Unravel into bring to life and bring off the page as as, as the actor employed, something that was delightfully written. But that is so quiet in ways, and such a sort of slow reveal that sometimes the harder work than, than the thing, that's like. Well the being here I am is hard to sustain over eight hours. There's something about your work where where you do something that makes us come to you, which to me is the best compliment, I can give an actor that you're, you're not writing it all out for us and saying here, here's the cliff notes for you to understand to. It is used you watch and you wonder stand. Does this give you this particular project? Give you the time as an actor to develop this. It's television, so it could be more rushed. But was it? Ooh. Well, it was it was overwhelming. It was eight episodes that I really had to know. And having the back of my head on day one that that was new to me. You know, when you have time I've done a little bit of television, and you learn the first episode and you have a sense of the overview, but, but you go through piecemeal with this for many reasons I had to really know it all and have in my head from day, one all the lines learnt complete understanding of all the time lines 'cause they would jump shoot things traction like time line thing that Nick lights to do. We know for that reason, and then also just because to have a real sense of what the shape of things would be over the season. It was important to just to start with, with all of that in in my databank, and, and that's that was a lot of material. You know piles of scripts, I was it was it was quite overwhelming. But we did we kind of had enough time to get it together. I don't know how hard you are on you. You know. Little bit. You can tell. Right to do. But is there a moment, not like saying this is my best seen this is it? But that when you look at you in this season, three of true detective that you can look at even moment and say I got close to being satisfied with and coming coast to what I wanted to do in that scene. Is there a moment? Gosh. There. There are a few moments, whether they made them to the screen or not. Is often the challenge dodgers. You know, sometimes you do things that you'll really excited. Yes. To the screen. Their couplings between Hirschman I again, I think just because we sat in the truth of the rhythm of the thing. Like, even though like hush often was like not really sure what my process was he wasn't. Really? Sure what I was doing how I was doing. I knew I felt very confident in knowing if I just trusted the way it was written. And even if on the day, it felt very disjointed at times and often did between he and I, I just knew that it was going to feel really authentic when it was together. I just knew it, and so they're, they're couple of scenes table between he nine where it was one of those things with a beat just wasn't really. It was just all you just felt all. And there's a scene at the one of the first things I had to film, I think it might have been the first has a foam. It's just me and him at the in the school in the classroom. And I'm and I'm you know. This very strange of chemical energy between he and I the, the two characters there's a lot of subtext and as being spoken. And again, I could just tell I was sitting in the right way. And sometimes scenes Bill is though, they are satisfying the obese up, then sometimes seen just feels as though, it's, it's. Is it? I don't know for sure what kings the cameramen over the director. But I know it's working him and I right now. And when I was able to trust that stuff that's the stuff. I I'm proudest office on the screen. Yeah. How did this all start for you go back to the show because how I know no win win.

FiveThirtyEight Politics
Top takeaways from Michael Cohen's testimony
"Today, he answered questions about Trump's communications with Roger stone relating to WikiLeaks about hush money payments to stormy Daniels about possible tax fraud about his own personal credibility and plenty more. So let's break down. What's new what's an actual legal liability for Trump if anything, and of course, the politics of it and here with me to do that our editor and chief Nate silver comes down. It's going well here in spent all day watching television. I guess it is my job. Yeah. Yeah. How was it? I'm one of those people where I like go to a museum like after the first hour, my eyes start to glaze over here. He lose concentration. Well, I think actually part of the problem is I think it got more interesting at the end toward the end because in part because you have all these old fogies who like are not asking show. Questions or grandstanding right toward the end. You had from I think both Republicans and probably more. Democrats more sharp lines of questioning more interesting things to say more differentiation. And so I think people should tune in for the for the second half. All right. We'll get more into that momentarily. But also here with us. Our senior writer Perry. Big junior Perry. How's it going? Hey, good to be with you. Thanks for joining us. And also we have five thirty contributor and legal reporter Amelia Thompson devoe him Melia. How's it going? Alan let's start with you a meal of the person who's helped us track. What kind of legal liability is on the table for Trump? Did we learn anything new regarding any possible criminality in anything that Trump did as either a candidate or as president today? Well, see we did get a clarification on one important thing. Which is the question of what happened with Michael Cohen's testimony previous testimony to congress, and whether the president directed him to lie there had been reporting from BuzzFeed saying that Trump had told him to lie to congress, which is a crime. And then there is a sort of immediate question about whether that reporting was true, and it seems based on Cohen's testimony that it was sort of partially true. Trump didn't come up to him and say, hey, I want you to light a congress. So it's not clear what my role was. In the Trump Tower Moscow deal at at a moment when it wouldn't look good for me, politically, but he sort of told Cohen to do it and not so many words in an indirect way. And the question the center, which that is illegal little bit more up in the air, but it's important to have sort of that clarification, at least based on Cohen's testimony. And then there were a couple of really interesting moments where Cohen got asked questions about the investigations in the southern district of New York. And those are the prosecutors that folks may remember had initially charged Cohen with campaign finance violations and other crimes back in August and cone, which sort of stop, and I can't talk about this because it relates to an ongoing investigation. And he even indicated that he's he's still cooperating with prosecutors in the hope of potentially his cooperation lessening his. Sentence in the futures. So that was really interesting sort of suggested, we know that prosecutors in New York are looking into the Trump organization's role in those payments or potential role and the inaugural committee. And so it was interesting to know the Cohen is still working with them. And of course, raises the question about what he might be telling them. So those are the headlines in terms of legal liability for Trump, which is I think perhaps what the Democrats were most interested in today pair, you've also been following these investigations what stuck out to you either from a legal standpoint or a political standpoint from a legal standpoint Amelia's hit about some things that might be different threads. But nothing jumped out in terms of the with the New York prosecutors investigating or in terms of Muslim militant getting imparted that think at times Cohen hinted. I can't talk about certain things because they're still in legal limbo. I think he was limited in that. In terms of the politics of are. Or the health? Congress handle that I was struck by two things. One is not shocking. But the Republicans members below time attacking Cohen calling Cohen Aligarh, and pointing out how much he had lied didn't really Cohen has some great detail in criticizing the president's behavior and conduct. That wasn't a lot of pushback against that. The Republican members themselves seem to concede a fair amount of it. And then on the democratic side. I did get the sense that they they they didn't really use the time very much. I didn't think to any new details to our overall understanding of the Russian story or Trump overall. I'm not sure that I think Cohen calling his former boss racists. And a conman cheater was interesting, but I'm the Democrats. Nestle told us much new in in the last four or five hours. Once Coen's opening statement was given what's your top line? Takeaway. Can make a non top line point. I yeah. About the BuzzFeed story because

Frog Picks Maternity Ward Like Goldilocks
"This is scientific Americans sixty seconds science. I'm Jason Goldman in the jungle home is anywhere. You can raise your babies while trying not to get gobbled up by somebody else. Take a tiny creature from Brazil whose name is longer than it is the, but he is broad snout casque headed tree frog. It likes to hang out in the little puns that form in cavities within Ramilia plants. These tiny pools are technically known as Fido tell Mata from the Greek words for plant and Pont. A male finds Melia and attracts a female who lays her eggs directly into the water. The male stays behind to guard, the eggs and the tadpoles spending the rest of his life within that one plant, but not just any Ramilia pool will do it's so crazy that all some really nice big permits in never found our rock there. If I. Would be the frog. I would like that for minute herpetologist miracle Solway from Brazil's state university of Santa Cruz coating his graduate students, Amanda lantern Silva brought Dan we may did research, and we saw that they were trade-offs in all solo and his team surveyed two hundred and thirty nine Ramirez within a protected part of Brazil's Atlantic rainforest of which seventy four were occupied by frogs. The frogs preferred big bre Melia ads, but the very largest bromellias were unoccupied by the frogs, which suggests there's a Goldilocks situation are the researchers think it has to do with the size of the frogs alligators shaped heads if the Bermudez water tank was too large and the frogs head can't form a tight seal around the opening which would make them and their offspring and easy meal. But if the pool was too small it might dry out completely. So they are really picky. Concerning day their houses, they need to clean house with fresh raw too. And it should not be large not small. The study is in the journal plus one so many says these findings remind us that we need to think about the nuanced habitat needs of species when it comes to conservation. It's not enough to bring some frogs and release them into the rainforest. We also need to ensure they're able to find the habitats they need to live may end raise their young. Thanks for listening for scientific Americans. Sixty seconds science. I'm Jason Goldman.

All Of It
Are the Honduran migrants aware of their role in the midterm elections?
"Been one of the defining issues in the US midterm elections. Hundreds of enduring migrants part of the so-called caravan that President Trump wants to go home have arrived in the capital, Mexico City, they've been taken to temporary shelter at a local. Sports stadium. I asked will grant who's traveling with a caravan. How wear the migrants were of their role in the US midterms. They are pretty aware of that media. I mean, obviously, the sheer number of international media who's accompanied them on this journey or appeared at least for parts of it has made it clear to them. Just how widespread and international that the focus on them has become. Yes, you're quite right. They are really the key element of one of the key elements of this midterm election. And I think as that draws closer they are very very aware of their role. Nevertheless, sometimes I think in in the caravan they all in a bit of a bubble as well. So he's both ends of the scale in the sense of not actually being able to to see beyond the next town. The next few hundred kilometers wherever they need to get to next, you know, sometimes that very much within within the group itself. And how difficult of an issue is this for the Mexican authorities have. Concerned are they about the possible impact on relations with the US? Well, domestically in Mexico comes at an interesting time to is obviously the very end of the anti Capena near to administration and not yet taken over by the president-elect, and there is men were local law. So in a sense, it's huge huge return to and that goes as well for the migrants themselves by and large. They're much more interested in speaking to under Manuel Lopez over to go, the incoming administration who appears to be pushing the idea that he can find work for them and to make that idea of staying in Mexico more attractive rather than guy who'll the way to the border and trying to present for asylum claims there, many the vast majority of which one would expect to be turned down. And we'll you spent a lot of time with the members of the caravan. They've been portrayed in a very negative light by President Trump. What can you tell us about them in the condition? They're in after what's already been a very long journey for them vast majority Melia. Families either mothers traveling with children or parents traveling with children. There are plenty. Of course, if young couples or individuals traveling on the road and in terms of their condition they are exhausted at this stage. We've seen them all the way from the border with Guatemala now to the Mexican capital. And in that time there faced extreme heat, driving rain sleeping rough and eating very literal. So they are very very tired when they reached Mexico City, and they still have a very long way to go. We'll grant in Mexico City. A
