"I'm just thinking about the way I would describe it. And I'm sure you've heard the 1812 overture. And think about how that crescendos, crescendo, after crescendo. And if you've ever heard it performed with live cannon, you get to the very end. And I mean, it's as loud as it can be, and there's live cannon going off. That's what it's like to be a cocktail party at three 30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon when it's 50 50 and anybody that goes to that. Played a big role in the cocktail party. Well, I am trying to suggest to you what it is like for a legitimate fan. Pat, I'm glad you mentioned it. I'm going to cease discussing the cocktail party. Apparently, I've upset some very thin skinned and. Florida fans who are trying to wrap themselves up into that game as if it's a call to arm. So you could have the game. I am officially done discussing where that game should be. I don't really care where the game is anymore. It doesn't matter to me. I will be there. I'm sure in Jacksonville, and I'm sure I'll get a warm greeting from the Chamber of Commerce. And I'll bring my boots in case it rains so I don't get my sneakers muddy in that parking lot that we'll be doing our show. So enjoy it. And strike up the band. Strike up the cannons. Well, let me suggest to you if you have an issue with the parking lot that you do and your show in, Paul, why don't you find a better spot to do your show? Because pat there's nowhere to go. We've done the show from the river. It's inhaling the St. John's river. I might as well go to a toxic waste dump. Well, you made my point and I'm not going to take a bit. So I'm not near any toxins. Well, you've made my point, and I'm not going to take any offense. I mean, we're Friends. However, my point was, of course, joking. Nobody takes this seriously. Enjoy it. But it's your game, okay? I want you and then in two years or a year whenever we get to Oklahoma in Texas, we'll see we'll just pay more attention to the state fair game than we will the cocktail party because quite frankly, I think the Oklahoma Texas game is more important than the Georgia Florida game. Well, that may be the case. May very well be the case. But anybody knows anything can happen at that game. It doesn't matter what the records are. I mean, for three and a half, when was the last upset in that game? Can you cite that for me? Yes, Florida upset us within the last 5 years. And I'm sorry, I'm having a senior moment. Well, that's nothing who just said to anything can happen in the game. I just asked you for the last episode because it seems to me that it usually goes according to plan. Not always, nothing goes always according to plan, but anyway, enough of that will be there in late October. We can table it until then, we're coming right back. Thank you for listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast, the Paul fine bob show airs weekdays on the SEC network beginning at three eastern.

"Going on here. This is Kyle Tucker talking about this is quoting cow, excuse me. He said, this is a basketball school. Alabama is a football school. So is George, you know, disrespect to our football school. I hope they win ten games and go to bowls, but this is a basketball school. Talking about the he was talking about the practice facilities, which everybody knows cow has been on a warpath about. Mark stoops responding going basketball school, I thought we competed in the SEC, hashtag four straight postseason wins. So remember when we talked to calipari and Dustin, he was banging the table about this practice facility. The next day we had the ad on Mitch barnhart and he was probably not as eager to get into that subject and this is all bluegrass conversation and does it really mean anything because you know at the end cow and in stoops will put their arms around each other and sing kumbaya, but good for Mark stoops to stand up. He's not the one that got bounced out of the NCAA tournament last year in the first round. Let's get back to the calls here at 855-242-7285. Russ is in Ohio. Hello Russ. Hey, Paul. This stumbled under your program accidentally. By the way, Russ, Ross, I hope it wasn't some like you weren't sentenced to by a judge. You have to watch it. I hope you did it independently. No, no, it's really nice. Well, thank you. 94 years old and I really enjoy listening to you. Thank you. Regarding the ACC, have you heard anything whatsoever? I never hear anything about the university of Pittsburgh. And the Big Ten that state have in place for 20 years is one of the oldest rivalries around. And I just wonder if you've heard anything along those lines and all. Yeah, not much, although Pittsburgh does fit the Big Ten demographics very well. And I think if we get to expansion, the Big Ten will look west first to Washington and Oregon. And then they could come east as well. The ACC is in a very transitional phase right now. There's a lot of deep conversations going on about what to do. And there's one theory out there that they almost need to blow the whole thing up and start over again because this grant of rights, which locks in schools like Pittsburgh and everyone else to the conference under a disadvantage television deal for the next is really creating a lot of havoc. So I wouldn't say it's impossible it can't happen right now. It's too difficult to get out. But I think it could happen down the road. Well, that center has. With the changes that are going on, you've got to keep your ear to the ground and suddenly changing every couple of minutes. Hey, Ross, I'm curious because, I mean, what is the secret to making it to 94? If I'm a ask. Oh, let's see, well, let's say good living, strong Paris, strong parents. I like that. Good day, activities and occasional drink out of a Kentucky bourbon. I don't know why. I thought you were going so what's the bourbon that keeps you going the best? Well, let's see. The one with the red top on it. Bakers Mark. Oh man. That's a really good plane. 'cause I don't drink bourbon, but a guy ordered Woodford reserve. Is that good? Okay. It was also 7 o'clock in the morning. I was just wondering who drinks burning at 7 in the morning. From the night before. I don't think that's the secret to 94 is drinking bourbon at 7 in the morning. No, absolutely not. Although, you know what? I'm thinking about trying it the next time. Hey, thank you. You take care of yourself. It's great to hear from you. You drink Berman. I don't know. Well, I mean, we're going to get a hundred calls saying, of course you drink it at 7 in the morning. We'll take a short break. We're off and running. Mel Tucker started to show off. We have a former not a former, a current auburn coach on one of my thinking. A little bit later on, more of your phone calls right after this. You were listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast. And we're back. Let's continue more phone calls and Dwayne is in Mississippi. Hello, Dwayne. Hi, Paul. How are you doing today? Very well. Thank you. Yes, sir. Yes, I like the time, by the way. And the new guy Luke that answered the phone very polite. Yeah, Lucas. We won't show his face yet. We don't want to give him a security risk problem tonight. But he's a very polite guy. We got a whole new in there right now. But you know, Daryl, he's saying about how mail took to learn more from Harvey smart than he did. And that's stupid. Kirby smart, everything he knows come from Nick Saban. And Nick Saban beating by about a 6 times. So quite hard for that much on that game. It's over. Let's start a new season, let's see what George has done. So why don't you just think about what Darrell said? Here's Mel Tucker who was with us earlier. He was recruited by Nick Saban. He was a graduate assistant at Michigan state. He was with him at LSU. He was with him at Alabama. And of course, being with Kirby smart was far more important than any of those years with Nick Saban. Oh, yeah, that's so that's great. I mean, I know he's a fan of Georgia and I appreciate what he did for this country and all that. But I know he's a fan of Georgia, but I mean, brag about the national championship game, because the rest of what do you call it? Statistics is bullcrap, basically bullcrap. That's a good word for it. Thank you very much. I would have to agree with you. Pat is in Georgia. Hey, Paul. Thanks. Steve, from Georgia yesterday. I think he framed the cocktail party. Much more eloquently than I ever could. I think he started in 59 his dad started in 33. If Kirby had got his home and home, he'd have one more home game every two years, then he's got now to recruit. And if that's going to make or break Kirby, then heaven help us, you've got a list of negatives about Jacksonville and I thought of I think about it when you say what they are and for the most part, you're accurate and correct. We're members of the Jacksonville book, dog club, have been for 35 years. We've got a nice place to tailgate over next to the public TV station next to the river. We walk across the road and go into the stadium.

"Did I just expose you? Be careful who you poke. Be careful, sir, when you poke the bear to the bear's got smash shield 'cause there is dangerous. It's a dangerous animal, so you should think about your George bulldog what if they don't repeat as a back to back champion as my mouth is correct. It's correct and please correct me. If I'm not mistaken, Alabama was the only team who went back to back chicken during BTS if I'm a mistaken. You can correct me. Hey, I don't mind if someone corrects me. Absolutely because I know my sports, just like Jenkins said. Interesting about talking about sports. My brother, I'm smashing people at the same time. I can talk about three, four different topics. But this is where I'm gonna stay mister fine, bob. I debuted it in your station 5 years ago and honest to God, I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm not a liar, I read off a script. Now I became main event a speaker from their mission final by my transition into calling ten to 12 sports radio station. Why? Because I want to be confident. I don't need no script. We can do this every single day in the fine bob. Everything comes easy. And by the way, I'm gonna hang up by saying this. You know, everybody knows, he can not talk about LeBron James without dirt in the race. And you can't talk about Nick's statement without talking about sex and Bennett. I can go on and on, you can not talk about AC, excuse me, it can not talk about dream from possible. Without talking about AC, 'cause I made him quit. I'm gonna make a quit every single day. You should find bob. I love you, and this is my show, and this is my yard. Wherever out there, comment take it, we're gonna be waiting and starting tomorrow. I'll be Canada, mister Flynn. Cheerleaders, I love your hard work, but I'll feel tomorrow my brothers and sisters, I hope so. She was up next in deep gap. Oh, I'm sorry, we got disconnected yesterday. I'm having fun difficulties. I've been thinking a lot over the last 6 weeks about the Big Ten situation. And a couple of things come to mind. I think we've got some panicked networks like CBS NBC and Fox who see the terrific success ESPN has had and delivering worldwide to the fan bases of the southeastern conference. Their favorite teams games every Saturday. And that is a delivery system they've not been capable of. And I think it's panicked and to making what I think will prove to be a very bad deal. I find this business about big market. It's how many eyeballs are actually connected to that specific broadcast that really counts. And if you really get down to the history of the Big Ten, other than the 1940s, where they completely dominated every year, they've been in a decline ever since. And over the last 25 years of both BCS and CFP football only Ohio State as mustered the quality to play at a championship level. And when you stop and really think about 22 of the 24 teams that have competed in one at the championship level, are from the southeastern quadrant of the United States, it's pretty it's pretty obvious that quality football resides in the south. And I think there are some strong economic reasons for that. In the 40s, the strongest of the manufacturing and industrial output in the world was in the Big Ten states and because of the second war and the recovery after the war. But really over the last 50 years, we've seen a severe demise in the industrial output of that region. That's why they are now called the rust belt. And it's been at the direct advantage of the sunny south that have directed that have collected and built absolutely fabulous motor car companies that love the anti auto workers union problems. They don't have them in the south and truthfully the employment base in the south is a whole lot more stable than it is in the rust belt. There is a direct correlation there. There's also a correlation in the choicest black players made more than 50 years ago to play football at a big time level. It was in the Big Ten. But over the last 50 years, they have discovered they can stay right at home and be heroes at home and now we've seen northern black athletes coveting southern football because they want to play at a championship level. Paul, I don't think a $1 billion contract to the Big Ten is worth a hill of beans unless they can attract the eyeballs from good competition. And frankly, I've seen nothing over the last 40 years that indicates they're going to be any real competition for the southeastern conference. Thank you very much. Thank you very interesting point. We are heading to a break a lot to do the remaining three and a half hours. Do we have a possible feud up in the bluegrass between the head basketball coach and football coach? We will share that information with you in a few minutes. You are listening to the Paul fine bomb Joe podcast.

"The program has been pretty fast start there with Mel Tucker of Michigan state you certainly know his backstory as a graduate assistant. But let's get back to the real world. It's all about Brock Bowers, going to be one of the top players in the country. He already was. And we will keep our eye on him. Today in throughout the season, he could be the key if Georgia hopes to get back. Meanwhile, at Alabama, we heard this yesterday, Georgia or vying for the starting role as a wide receiver. He's hurt out for the first part of the season, and that could be a problem. Arkansas. What's going on in Arkansas? They're not happy about being an underdog, not so much an underdog. They are the favorite in the first game against Cincinnati. But they don't feel like they're getting any respect. My response to them would be your probably better than you were last year. Your schedule though is downright impossible. So if you can negotiate that, then we're having a serious conversation, much like last year, the a and M game really will help frame what happens to the razorbacks. Let's get back to the calls here and Andre is up next. Hey, Andre. Coach, bob. You know, you are the one of sports talk. Thank you. What a great interview. I mean, hey, man. What a great interview, coach, and male children well spoken. You know, yeah. It's not so much, it's just a way his demeanor, I mean, last year was a roller coaster. He gets that $100 million deal. He goes out and gets run over by Ohio State, but he made a really interesting decision to stay there. A lot of people had him going everywhere, but Michigan state. Personally wanted the man to come to LA. I'm satisfied with coach over there with our coach Chandler. What are you hearing coming out of a badge coach? I hear really good things and Andre, I happen to be down there two weeks ago briefly, but I know it. I know it. I thought I saw your stomach. I was able to get some pretty good Intel. Because I was with some LSU people. I just wasn't walking through the quarter drunk at midnight. I know. 'cause what you saw down on bourbon street. That was me, yes. But the difference. I was walking and I was walking down bourbon street at 12 o'clock, except it was 12 o'clock in the afternoon. I took my wife over there. So I asked her, we went bad routes. I asked her when I highway. So I asked her, did she want a doctor? She said, yeah, I wanna die. So we pulled up to the window and she ordered the daiquiri. And then she put the straw in it. She said that alcohol in it. Louisiana. Yeah, I forgot. I forget you can just order drinks at the drive-through there. Can you hear all the metrics? And then it's not considered an open container unless you put the scroll in it. Louisiana. But it is a Louisiana. Sometimes I wonder. As far as to take my call, coach. Thank you very much. I also wonder if Columbus, Georgia was part of the United States, not because of any other reason than our next caller. What's that? Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Hi. I was talking about military but first, I got to make a point, okay? Regarding your boy AC. I mean, is that to the point that I'm starting to wonder if Paul stays for knowing color? You know what I'm saying? Is he like a mixture of Oscar Brown? You may be Yosemite Sam. I'll give this to AC. Whatever he's doing, he is suddenly become the most talked about collar on the show. And you can say that's not a good thing, but it is a thing. Oh, it's psychology show a couple of weeks ago. He's talking about making it the blood. He the same sandwich every day he belongs, right? And you're trying to compare your show to them. Well, he needs to continue to listen to his own advice because his calls have become annoyed because it's always the same old same old. He's got to make us, you know, he's got to come up with gummy created. But with a new gig, we call this it really has gotten old. I mean, it makes no sense. It's gotten on now. It's gotten away from sport. And I'm just saying that the guy needs to stop bringing the same thing every time. He needs to be different. Now we're going to hill cooker. You know what I'm going to talk about today. He probably want to say coach. I mean, if I was being honest with you, I mean, I probably learned more from Kirby smart and I did coach Saban. I mean, you know, you saw what's marked down. We should have been on the first time we played when I was there, but Nancy Palo Alto delta hook, but we shared in that that happened the second time, you know what, Paul, I got to thinking about it. Look at Kirby smart, okay? Neutral site. This is in there. Alabama is beat. Oklahoma is beat Clemson. He's been Michigan all at neutral size. I just think that's just epic, what he's been able to accomplish is he's in there. As far as the excitement, the hardest thing to talk about the book, but made a comedy, I don't know why I'm back. You know, today I want to write a book. I don't write the book myself. Right. I mean, he's hating on books, Paul. He's hanging on books, but what Nick flavor needs realize is those same books are the books that have him. Be over the podium when he does his press conference, you know what I mean? But I know he's like, I'm standing on books, right? He has to be. I mean, he made his French conference. How many people are back behind the podium that Nick has to get up on before we can see it. Thanks for the call. He mentioned AC, so do you ever respond to that AC? Well, Daryl, if anything, just acknowledge you're trying to change, if you want to come after me, but the problem. Well, let me start by saying good afternoon. I'm thank you so much for taking my call. I like that other idiot. He did not say that. How do you think this should find bob? Very well. Thank you. Absolutely. See, this is how you start off the shelves. You know, it's funny how Daryl is taking a shot at me. He doesn't matter. Negativity. I told you three weeks ago. That motivates me. This is why I call the show. I heard the backup number to call the show because I like what I'm doing. Oops, the music is out, but the thing is, mister barrel, I appreciate what you did for this country, but you want to talk about I make the same call every day. Well, didn't you repeat Alabama, Alabama, Nick Saban, Nick's favorite every single day until you won a championship back in January?

"When you think about Nick Saban and think about his longevity, what can you say in relation to his beginning as a head coach where you saw him at Michigan state to what he's accomplished since? From the moment I met co saving when he recruited me. When he was head coach at Toledo, my senior in high school. I knew that he was a great coach. I knew that he was a special coach. I knew that he was a rare individual. So it was just, it was just an honor for me to actually coach for him to work under him here at Michigan state. And LSU and Alabama, he was later foundation for me as a coach. He was a mentor to me and still is to this day. And so his longevity is not a surprise to me. As you know, he is a relentless and everything he does. From a to Z every aspect of the organization, including recruiting ex was the nose, all kinds of defense special teams. He's what you would call a master coach, every aspect of what it means to be an outstanding football coach. He epitomizes every aspect of his gold standard. And so, you know, I'm not surprised anything that he's done or anything that he will do during the future. Well, we all try to figure out the end date, but he'll turn 71 in October and you tell me, I've watched him since LSU. You've watched him since before that. It doesn't seem that different or any different, does he? No, I mean, not to me. What you see is what you get, what coach Saban and I've heard him say that you will coach as long as he has a passion for it. And as long as he can get the job done and I don't see any slowdown in sight for him anytime in the near future, I can tell you that. I mean, you could fill it on the recruiting trail and I would say the way that his teams are prepared and the way they play. You know, he's just, you know, he's that guy. Once in a generation, what's in a couple generations type of coach that you say, hey, this is what it's supposed to look like. This is how you run a program. This is how you know this is how you recruit. This is how you coach, this is how you know this is how it's supposed to be done. You really set the pace for everyone in the business. And so yeah, I mean, he's just saying enough about cost saving. I mean, you know how I feel about him. And, you know, it's a production business for all of us. And he produces that a high level, you're in and you're out. Because before you go, you mentioned him recruiting you many, many years ago, and that has always such a big topic right now and how recruiting has changed. And what new has happened with NIL and the difficulties of the portal, which every coach is at addressed. What has it been like for you just watching the evolution of the game and dealing with it in real time, you know, challenges that coaches have not really ever had to deal with before. Yes, it's a lot different than it used to be. Certainly when I got in, as always, evolving, you have to adapt and adjust as a coach. I was unfortunate I've had experience coaching in the National Football League ten years. And so I'm used to players coming and going. I'm used to guys making different types of salaries and things like that and still having to develop a team still having to bring guys together for a common goal, getting guys to buy into something that's bigger than themselves. And that's very doable. You see it done every year at the national football league and there's no different for us here. Even with NIL and the portal and roster management and things changing, the game of football is fundamentally the same as the ultimate team sport. And you have to get the right guys fit into your culture to buy them buy into what you're selling. In order to get what we all want. That is to win football games. Become the best we can be on and off the field. And that's really the name of the game. We don't want to keep you because we know you've got a busy schedule, but we do want to thank you. It has been a real pleasure for all of us to get a chance to say hello to you and all the very, very best this season and we hope we can catch up with you maybe when it's all over. Thanks so much, coach. Yes, thanks, Paul. Thanks for having me on. You bet. It was our pleasure. What an incredible individual Mel Tucker for those of you who have never had a chance to listen to him or see him speak. He's truly one of the premier coaches in the country and you can understand why he has achieved that. We'll take a short break. We'll come back with much more right after this. "Program we are delighted to have you here and those seem like an ultra low season and itching ahead and we are going to share a lot of that with you over these next couple hours and we're not going to waste a minute. Very special guest is waiting to come on somebody well known. Coach and Alabama under Nick Saban as well and then later at Georgia under Kirby smart. He's now the head coach at Michigan state and maybe one of the most in demand coaches in the country last year during a wild coaching sweepstakes. He ended up re signing with Michigan state and delighted to say hello to coach Mel Tucker. First of all, coach, thanks for making time. I know this is not the most easy time of the year to jump on a program like ours, but we're happy to have you. Good afternoon. Hey, good afternoon, Paul. Thanks for having me. You know, anytime I just have to get on with you I'm gonna try to get it done. Well, we appreciate that. And I think you know, you have a lot of friends down in the southern part of the country where we live because we've seen you up close and continue to marvel at some of the accomplishments. I know you can't think about that right now. You have a game to get ready to, but how would you describe this Odyssey of yours going back 20 years ago when you were at LA shoe to being a head coach in Colorado and obviously now the head coach of Michigan state? Yeah, I've been I've been very blessed and very fortunate I've asked them outstanding opportunities. I've worked with a lot of great coaches, a lot of great players work for a lot of great coaches. And I've just tried to work really hard, you know, pay attention. Take advantage of the opportunities that were presented to me. And things have worked out for me so far. They have indeed coach this time of the year. You know, those of us in the media love to speculate, we really have no earthly idea what we're talking about though, but you do. Because you're on the practice field with your staff and your players, when you're getting, when you're targeting, when you've been there a week or so, getting ready to make the turn toward the final couple of weeks. So what is going through your mind on a day to today basis and how do you calculate how much progress you've made and what you need to do before that first game on September 2nd? Yes. That's a great question. Early in camp, we're really just focused on ourselves. We can get better each and every day. Raise our level of intensity, keep stacking one great day of practice after the next. And then as we get closer to the season, beginning and then we really start to hone in on our opponent. We're not at that point yet. We have our first scrimmage coming up this Saturday. That's going to be our first time really seeing our guys live streamers to the ground offense defense special teams. And so we'll have a much better indication of who we have, what we have. What our guys can do best when they're playing fast when there's live. And at that point, we'll start to hone in a little bit more in terms of our depth charts and seeing who the guys are that we feel like are going to give us the best chance. And then as we get closer to the game, we'll really start to hone in on our gang planning for western Michigan and there's really zero zeroing in on them. But right now it's really about technique fundamentals class smart plant fast plant fresco, make sure that we understand our scheme. Team chemistry is extremely important. Pair accountability is something we've been harping on. But just the overall nature of our program and our culture just really making sure that our players understand that decision has already been made to be the best football team that we can be and it's a process that we have to we have to hammer each and every day. Talking to coach Mel Tucker, coach, I know you're focused on this year. But if I could ask one thing about last year, I mean, you had that huge win over your cross state rival. The speculation about your future, really, I would think it became almost unbearable right in the middle of the season. How did you deal with that while trying to get ready for the week to week schedule in the Big Ten, which was pretty difficult, considering the stature of that league where everyone had you going everywhere, but where you ended up staying. Well, it was just keep the main thing the main thing. You know, mister state has always been my dream job. This is where I started my career. Co saving gave me an opportunity in 1997 to be a graduate assistant for him for 97 to 98. And this is home for me in that regard. And so when I walked, when I walked in the door here, February 12th, 2020, I was home. And this is where I wanted to be. So it was easy for me to focus on Michigan state and the task at hand, it was easy for me to keep my team focused. Because nothing changed for us inside the building. I always talk to our players about making sure the voices inside the building are louder than the voices outside of the building. So we stayed neutral in our thinking. Always deciding to what was the best next step to take in our preparation. And we stay focused and continue to press on. Because you mentioned Nick Saban and I'm sure no matter what you do and have done, you mentioned the beginning of your coaching career with him and you were with him a couple of other times as well. I know you can't really think about him any longer on a day to today basis, but you are attached to him just like you are with Kirby smart and others.

"I just i just do before. I let this go though i just gotta give it to mel tucker man. Just wow yeah. He came in mark. Dantonio did a great job at michigan. State he turned the rivalry around but like he left the program. Kind of in shambles. And mel tucker steph. Didn't said you know what i'll do what i can. And his first year not awesome. But you know what he did do that first year. He beat michigan. You know. i'm just thinking about this right now. And admittedly mel tucker had a few more tools in the drawer. Then dan campbell. But when you're looking at coaches and their early trajectory. I can't think of two different stories right now. Yeah it's it's really weird and very similar albeit very different between the two players to the two coaches because yeah they both came into very not awesome situations. They both were like. We'll give you some time to get your sea. Legs go before you go forward. But even with mel tucker you saw flashes of okay. This offense is trying to do certain things here. They don't have the pieces yet but they're working towards something they have a very specific Formation with very specific where they would run their defense. I see it but it's just not turning over them right now. The lions you like. I don't know what's happening. I don't know what's going on. They run one thing when we run another the next week They have a quarterback who the having an offense it must be a very vertical offense. He's five yard passes he's literally. There's a counter shuts tie shelter. Bring to my attention on twitter. At least three times this year on fourth and whatever jared goff is throwing the ball away out of bounce on fourth and whatever late in the game. He's throwing the ball out of bounds this time he's like it was a physical air. The ball got away from me. The last of if you were mental errors which is not something you want to hear from your quarterback at all. That's like the one time you don't want an error this is. Why have mel tucker were to leave next season. If you were to do rehab program do really well and then leave for bigger program. I'd have no problem at all because like he. He did the work. Here he turned. This turned the team around a bit. He's got the players thinking well. Okay dan campbell. I don't know what he came in with a bunch of energy or by nick after doing this being funny soundbite guy because he knew they were going to be bad. He just probably didn't know there'd be this bad. At this point moses lose the rest of the injured and get the first overall draft pick because there's nothing served by trying to go out there and win games now like nothing. I mean maybe compete just so fans. Don't throw bleacher seats at you. But i don't. I don't know what you serve by by going out there and trying to compete and win gains. When like we've seen what happens..

"A CC Big 10 challenge presented by Continental Tire, North Carolina, Iowa at 7 30 Eastern than Illinois, Duke Tuesday on ESPN. Him becoming the first black head coach in Ohio State history to roam the sidelines in the win against Michigan State are opposite Mel Tucker, right, so like it, just like they all the way all the way around for history state there, but I was encouraged by what they did, especially after the way that the committee sought to think about moving Texas A and M into that fourth spot based on beating what we all know to be a really bad L s u team right now, John. Yeah, Yeah, you know, listen, I know Michigan State is in a great team They did beat Northwestern last week. Northwestern today was crowned. The big 10 west of his in champion. There, they have a team meeting where they were holding the trophy because their game got canceled today. So don't Michigan State Mel Tucker's got a lot of work to do to kind of build that program back up, But being as short handed his Ohio State Woz It's still impressive that they want 52 to 12. The best games were those that were not involving the top four teams A and M beats Auburn 31 to 20. But our jae young, you do not seem very impressed. By the agonies victory this afternoon. Not at all. You beat up on a three lost Auburn team, a team it's somehow continues to get all sorts of praise. From people that I respect in college football for which I'm actually pulling your coattails here and asking. What do you watching, sir? Oh, Next. Isn't that great? A quarterback If anything, the compass killing mon, Which ain't saying a whole lot text and got absolutely stumped by Alabama. Ole Miss put up a better fight. Epperson, U is in a game with another shoe team that can't play on the same field as Alabama tonight and all burns best winds right earlier this year like Kentucky. You know, they lost to a South Carolina team that fired their head coach and has hired a new one before the season is ended. I don't give any respect to that all my team and I don't give any respect to a text saying them team that needs 1/4 quarter comeback. Beat them. I'm not sold it all on what the Yankees are. If anything, moves Cincinnati into that fifth spot if that's what you're really feeling, based on how text Santa has played the last two weeks, Jeff RJ young Jeff Dickerson. Game night, ESPN radio, The ESPN Apple guest on our show appear of you the shell Pennzoil Performance line. All right, you're not buying A and M I mentioned Florida before they will play Alabama in the S E. C championship game, there will be heavy underdogs. Florida, though, does be Tennessee 31 19 the best game. I think the most impressive win before we get to the instant Classic tonight, which is coastal Carolina against BYU, and we'll talk with the head coach of Coastal Carolina. Jamie Chadwell will join us next segment right here on ESPN radio to react to that huge win at home against BYU 22 to 17. How about Indiana? Down their starting quarterback. Beating Wisconsin, which isn't a great Wisconsin team, but the Badgers are still pretty tough winning 14 to 6. Over Wisconsin That is another in a long line of signature wins this year, RJ for the Hoosiers, 100% and without Michael panics, Junior. You saw Tom Allen's defense show up in a huge way with backup quarterback Jack Total. Who, by the way, Isn't any slouch like you take a look at what the quarterback situation has been at India or Indiana over the last two years. Pain Ramsey grad transfers to Northwestern. Oh, yeah, they just won the division and the Big 10 West, and he gets an opportunity to win a big 10 title hearing in a couple of weeks. Michael panics. Junior might be the second best player in the entire big 10, depending on which week and how you want to talk about the best player being quarterback. And now Jack Tuttle, who transfers from Were transferred from but is At Ohio State, right moves to Indiana is expected to succeed Michael Finish junior needed would come through in a meaningful way. And then you got Tom Allen just out there Ted Lasso style with his players. They love each other. They're playing for each other. It shows that way. You had a debilitating injury to his son at linebacker, and you had a debilitating injury to Michael Panics, Junior and still here They are playing big boy football. I expect to see them. In a meaningful bull. And you know, like if they make it through the season with one loss, we're going to talk about Indiana. Challenging for the Big 10 championship next year. I didn't think we would ever talk about Indiana football in that way in my lifetime. So that has been a remarkable story. One of the coolest things that happen in this 2020 season. I mean, they beat Indiana. They beat Wisconsin. Without their starting quarterback, and what type fried Fogell The best receiver. One of the best receivers in the Big 10 has one catch for 35 yards, Indiana still finds a way.

"60 wjr. Well, folks make absolutely no doubts about it. The Indiana Hoosiers as a football team are for real. They go into East Lansing yesterday afternoon ranked number 10 in all the land and what do they do? They shut out Mel Tucker and the Spartans 24 Nothing. The final there. Michael panics Junior 320 yards to go along with two touchdowns, and the fact of the matter is Shawn. Nothing good is gonna happen for Michigan State until they stop turning the ball over form or yesterday. Yes, Steve, you know, basic, fundamental stuff. That's just the way it is. I don't think there's any coincidence that you know the game that they didn't turn the ball over. They find a way to win that game. But I want to echo what she's Indiana's legitimate. Okay. You know that I think you know panics is a young quarterback. He's going to make some mistakes. He's but There's so much ability there. You have to give a tip of the cap to what they've been able to do The last couple years. They were always that close, but no cigar kind of program in the big 10. This is legitimate. I'm gonna be really interested to see what transpires with this team. They might be the second best team in the Big 10 right now, Steve Well, they beat Enos you in East Lansing for the first time since 2001. They claim the old brass spittoon for the first time since 2016. Furthermore, Indiana has won five consecutive big 10 games going back to last season. They've won nine of their last 11 tilts. The Hoosiers have won five of their last six big 10 games on the road. That is their best stretch since the 67 68 season so more work to do for Mel Tucker and the Spartans. Now the question is there supposed to be at Maryland on Saturday. Maryland, Ohio State that was canceled because of Cove it 21 days is the protocol in Big 10 play, We will keep your muse talk 7 60 wjr. Meanwhile, you've got some things going on in an arbor last night, and it wasn't good for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines. Number 13 Wisconsin Idol the last two games because of covert they go in. 49 11. That was the final beat down for sure. Uh, Wisconsin now have won five of the last seven meetings against Michigan and Jim Harbaugh has got a lot of questions to answer. Yeah, Steve, it's ugly right now, and it's it's both sides of the ball. You know, the one thing that has been frustrating around here this fall. Stevens how the defense's for for really All the teams have just Really struggled. And certainly that was the case last night. Michigan couldn't do anything right. They couldn't move the ball. Joe Milton looked like he was a young man that just wasn't ready for prime time and they could not stop the run. So this is a situation, Steve where they've got to find themselves quick, fast in a hurry, because this stuff Can go down the drain and again with all the expectations with this football team once Jim Harbaugh took over and 2015, they haven't come close to living up to those expectations. And more bad news for the Wolverines. They suffer their largest loss at the big house since 1935 when they fell 38 zip to Ohio State right now, the Wolverines one and three. There were start since 1967. According to Jim Harbaugh, after the till everything must be re evaluated. The Wolverines supposed to be at Rutgers next Saturday. Elsewhere in the big 10 number, 23 Northwestern, they go in the West Lafayette and take care of her Do 27 20. How about this Penn State Falling tow. Oh, and four. Can you believe it? They were a preseason top 10 team folks. Nebraska beats him 30 23. Mr. Franklin's got some things to figure out. Yeah, he does. What a mass. I want an absolute mess in. You know, there's a lot of that going around the conference right now. I mean, there really? Is Nebraska still trying to find themselves. You know, the rumors of Scott Frost taking over had been greatly greatly exaggerated, but it was nice for them to get a win, but at the expense of Franklin, So right now, Steve, there's just a whole heck of a lot of Huh? And again number three Ohio State They were supposed to be in Maryland take on the Terrapins that game canceled Top 25. Here we go. Notre Dame Day Roland number two Fighting Irish upends Boston College 45 31. About Florida. Number six in all the land may beat Arkansas. It was 77 at one point, the final Gators 63, Arkansas. 35, Florida Improves 25 and one Meanwhile, you got number 11, Oregon. Lot of expectation for them in the Pac 12. They beat Washington State 43 29. And number nine. Number nine. Miami They beat Virginia Tech. Close one. They're 25 24 you a believer in the Canes. Kind of does that make sense. I don't think that they're back to the level Steve that they were at in the eighties and in the nineties in the nearly part of the 21st century, But I don't think they're bad either. I think they're probably in that level below Clemson and some of the top 10 teams. I think the raking is at probably somewhere between 10 and 15. All right. Some high school action. Certainly in this great state of Michigan District Final Action West Bloomfield. No problem whatsoever, and they make a strong statement knocking off Sterling Heights, Stevenson 63 to 6 River Rouge on a roll. They take care of New Boston here on 40 21 Belleville. Why I'll tell you what saw them Friday night. They are a tough ball club right now is they look for their first state championship, and they're well on their way, knocking off a pretty good Canton club. Battle of the undefeated goes to Belleville. 53 29 Shoni onto the regional finals. Yeah, Coach Crow else done such a great job Christian do read is ah young man that just has made place his entire career. Belleville is looking tough and Steve, I'm going to say it again. I love the idea of letting teams get in in the playoff a new season and see if they could make a run. How about Oak Park? How about Warren de LaSalle? Certainly less than regular seasons they get in the playoffs, They start making noise. That's a great story. Yeah, very exciting. No question about it The way it's all panned out. Meanwhile, we continue to count you down. Steve Courtney. Sean believes in We've got your lions playing host to that Washington football team. How about your fantasy football rosters? "Here in East Lansing. My name is Steve Courtney. Thanks for being here and say what you will about me. I'm a man of my word Will team in. Joins us right now, with her conversation with coach Mel Tucker. Presented by TCF Bank, proud partner of an S U Athletics will Mostly thanks a lot in here It is Game three of the big 10 season melon. You know, I was tempted to say, Hey, Ma, what happen between game won a game, too, But I'm not going to do that. But I will ask you this. You've talked a lot about process and the team is process driven. I was curious in the framework of that one statement. How did the process actually get you from Game one against Rutgers to that gray one and Game two against Michigan? Person foremost, we're here to neutral thinking, which basically requires you to go to the truth and the facts and be real about you know what's really has happened. And not to judge you know, good or bad, right or wrong. Just what is it? Game one was was until turnovers. They had 21 points off turnovers. We needed to eliminate those. We had to do some things differently. Because obviously what we were doing on the daily basis did not show up on on game day. And so we went to the extremes reinforce, you know, ball security and our players embraced up. You know, the pass is not predictive of the future. Necessarily unless you unless you don't change the behavior, and so there were some things we had to change ultimately, Ah, last week, you know we were ableto take care of the football. That goes a long way to give you an opportunity to have a chance to win a game like that. You know, the explosive plays. You talk about that, like you also talked about creating turnovers, but you had six of those against Michigan five in the passing game. Explosive play meaning 20 yards. Plus, have you been surprised by the emergence of your passing game? We have, obviously, Rocky, you know, could make all all the throws. You know, J. Johnson Coast cap. You know, our office line coaching run game coordinator and aware ofthis astound, you know, they're veteran guys that understand, you know, howto work together. You know, as we learn more about our players understand how to put guys in positions to do things that they could do? Well, you know, we have some receivers that are hard to cover. Then we have a quarterback that can deliver the ball to them. So you know, it's about design a scheme to make sure that that were coordinated in our in our past protection. They're all offensive line or tight ends in our backs. Quarterbacks know you know where their hearts are in. Everyone's working together, so that we can, you know, take advantage of off somewhere our playmakers and you know, we're aggressive one. We're not afraid to take shots down the field work really hard to maintain some balance in office in terms of run past. I'm not. I'm not surprised, but you know we're working progress and you know they're certainly and things that we approve upon and corrections that we we've had to make. We have to improve on the road against Iowa got to be ready for to play. You know, probably the most physical football game with your life. Rocking Lombardi, Your Richard junior quarterback. He's in Iowa native and he was a great recruit for Michigan. Say coming out of Iowa. Do you ever worry about him may beginning too jacked up for this thing. No, I don't. I don't worry about that. You know, he's ah, very mature. Comparator. You know this is a team game. You knows it's not upto one guy ever. You know, everyone has to do their job and trusted. The man next to him was going was going to do here and he's got a job to do. His preparation has been very consistent. He's been very steady and focused the meeting rooms and on the practice field. And with his leadership, he understands our process and he embraces and he works to process. You know, Typically what you see from players in practice. When you practice with intensity, and you practice with a seance or just see an attention to detail. You're competing. You're straining and you're fighting in practice. This is what you what you see in the game, and and so what I'm seeing from him this week, you know, has been a steady leader on the knows what his job is and what his role is on his team. But when we come back with more of our visit with Michigan State, the head football coach Mel Tucker, we're going to talk about today's opponent, The Iowa Hawkeyes in the moment right here in the TCF Bank Spartan Media Network. North side or east.

"Yeah, it's tough when Michigan loses 27 24. We're all disappointed here following the game, and that's what this show generalise about. Right. It's the first reaction. You haven't had a chance to go back and we watched the game. You don't know all the specifics about everything that went wrong. In the game. And so it's usually more of a big picture conversation after a loss, as opposed to going into all the very specific so you could look through and see. What? Some of the you know what some of the problems were on. It was. Ah, really disappointing game has to say, And so we won't hear from you. We're gonna get to the comments on social media. We're going to the phone lines here first at 73499 18 50 or talk with Terry Insulin, Terry. Good afternoon. Hey, I already doing I'm hanging in there. Embarrassing, though that was an embarrassment and my my question, you know? Mel Tucker. You know, people gave a lot of lot of grief, you know, for taking that job, and you know, stepping into it, and then the way they looked last week, But he came out and he got his signature wins. If you could. I know that you're a historian of Michigan football. What is Harbaugh's signature win that Michigan? Fair question, Terry. I mean, he has winds over. It seems that I've won the big 10 years. Whatever pence a signature win. Yeah, I got you, Terry. I got your answer. Thanks for the call at 7349 18 50. I mean, I I don't know. Maybe it's because of how people looked at the game at the time. I don't know. But a dominant win over Penn State that won the big 10 is probably a signature win. But I understand your point because it's not one over Ohio State. He has winds over Michigan State. I'm not sure any other there was the road game. Against the rain team. That was the first time he went on the road in Peter right team. That was a win for him, so that's probably to go in there as well. A win over Michigan State on the road, But your point is eyes fair because in his second game after losing last week and laying an egg at home against Rutgers, and maybe there was more to the part of the conversation that I did ask Sam Early the weekend. It was brought up a few times by people over the course of the week, which was Like we've seen Ohio State overlook like Purdue a few years ago in the past because you're thinking about Michigan they lose to Purdue and again they should lose was Michigan State, looking past Rutgers thinking it's all Walt Rutgers and preparing for Michigan and getting ready for this game? I don't have an answer that but Michigan said always brings their best against Michigan doesn't matter who they have football coaches. You got to give Mel Tucker credit for having his football team ready and inside the team wasn't ready and Assed faras what the signature wins our road win. What was that? Ah, couple years ago at Michigan State, or ah, the winner helm against Penn State against the writing the Wisconsin when another reign team at home that that was the same year that they beat Penn State. The one that ended with the Jordan Lewis catch interception, probably down in that kind of conversation, but again, it's not about but people want the signature winds to be over right teams and ranked rivals Michigan State and Ohio sister tear. Your point is made. I'm not not defending them. Just answer the question. Let's go to Delaware on the East Coast. 7349 10 50 talk to Willie. Hello, Willie. Yeah, I like to say that this is one of the most embarrassing losses have ever watched. Um, why are we running the ball? You ran the ball. Last two games. It would be them bad Look. Around 56 yards or something like that again. Minister OD only for 1 25 today with 31 attempt a sum like that. That's horrible. Tolerable. You gotta clean it up about well needs to go. Donna Braun's crap. Really? Thanks to call 734998 and 50. Email studio w t k dot com You can tweet us at Michigan insiders Go back, Teo, the phones go down to the glass. He just go to Toledo. Talk to Mike. Hello, Mike. Hey, guys. Uh, yeah. I just gotta get my make kind of echo and some of those sentiments to it's Ah, It's a frustrating game and I don't know what practice was like They're on the way, guys. I was a little concerned because I knew Michigan State was going to come in here. Ah, pretty loaded up and ready to go. The game Planning was horrible. I think anyone who has watched football from warden A couple years knows this when I'm concerned about with Harbaugh, and I'm not one of those guys who says Let's fire him and all that, because I think that's that's just, you know. Ah, Knee jerk reaction. But you guys, I got to say that I'm a little concerned, and I like Harbaugh as much as anybody. But I'm concerned with his his attention to detail and he's usually on it. Okay, but to not at least throw the challenge flag on that one play. That was so huge that third down If there's any doubt at all you got to throw the challenge, like his job is to protect that football team and give them every chance that they can't win the game. I'm so concerned with. Why didn't you say Well? Well, if you don't get it, Do you lose a time out? We still have plenty of time left in the fourth quarter that that play was huge. Even the guys on TV said that did not look like it Catch. Now. Who knows what the bad officiating throughout the game? Maybe they would have gave it to him. Whatever, but you've got to give your team a chance. And that was the most frustrating thing that I've seen with your body today. I don't know what is going on in terms of his preparation, but it's lacking this week, especially against a rival. I don't know if they got too many pats on the back. It's Minnesota. Oh, Joe Milton looks like Cam Newton. Let's get rid of that. Ah, you know, the offense old executed so great. The play calling was trash today. Absolute trash. The defense if I could just say this real quick. How do we have a defensive coordinator in D one football coaching at the highest level who does not know how to adjust in game? To playing man demand bump coverage and go into some sort of soft zone or something to protect those D B. That is ridiculous. You got guys who are getting burned on every play. Hey, maybe we should stop playing bump and run man to man when we're not getting any pressure from the D line. It is ridiculous..

"And I don't even know that any of them would be starters and line play's going to be the The big thing. Michigan's defensive line versus Ah Michigan State's offensive line is going to be a bloodbath. Vice versa. I'm not sure that they have the defensive line to keep up with Michigan's offensive line. Based on what we saw this past week 1.5 that's the over and under on unsportsmanlike conduct. Penalties on panic. Shoot. Where were you out there? I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go under. I think he's going to get one. If it was day, Antonio, I think he'd be over. But I think Mel Tucker might be a little bit. Ah might might be a little bit more leery of that type of behavior. We'll find out very soon now what this is going to be like under belt sucker. All right. Well, Isaiah, Thanks for coming on. Appreciate it was. We'll talk to you next week. Oh, I mean, you could see us now. Dennis is dressed up nice. He's dressed the part, Mrs looking like miss, and I look like I mean, does that mean Jamie missiles like me is the hell's expose William, This looks like a man who gets there at four in the morning and there goes your flag again. I know you like he gets up a foreigner is there at gets up at four in the morning? Get over here. It's six gets over there. It's well. Drinks, guzzles some coffee down, and then he's coffee in it all day long. That's actually fairly accurate right there that checks out very accurately looking like miss. That's what that's what I called it. That's a Friday as a Friday maneuver right there. I like the the feature of the feedback that flashes up on the screen one that was right there at the tail end said that Ah, I forgot who the person's name was. But they are There It is, Carrie. I expect a few more deep shots tomorrow. Yeah. I agree with that. Like I think that we just had one and I mentioned it with Isaiah there that deep shot it was in the Second quarter and it was Roman Wilson and he was covered and Joe through it about five yards, too. You know, you get nit pick and say, maybe hey, could have given him a better chance or whatever else but I would expect the same thing, especially if you know if you're if you're running the ball against MSU. And you can get that play action. Well, I would expect that as well. Carry no doubt. And you're at home there. Ah, Hey, how about in the first series? I'm I'll predict. What's going on, Jen? Good afternoon, fellas. How are we doing today? Can we're Can't wait for the game tomorrow. Man. It's like Christmas on Halloween in Ha, Brother. Yeah, well, when you put it like that, you know, I don't need any sugar to get me going for that game. I could tell you that much. I don't think I'm even gonna hardly sleep tonight. Changed. How would you mention that cheap shop Art of Spanish you? He's the one that cheap shot late in the game last year. One day. Yeah. Yeah, Both of them are cheap shots and Jacobs the biggest one, but yeah, and I think he I think he's had more than one over the years, so he is somebody you know. He's Ah. He hates Michigan and he's going to go. You know, they say play up to the whistle. He's going to play over the whistle. And you know that, So I'm sure they'll be reminded of that to retaliate on the scoreboard instead of, you know, after the whistle. You know, after seeing that play had two or three times last year. He literally took three steps after the whistle when he hit Patterson and you know that work was pizza crap named Antonio. Mike Dan Antonio. He didn't even say a word to him come off the field. Yeah, He didn't say anything. Look, then, D'Antonio. He's gone. He left. He left Tucker. Ah, Dumpster fire. And you know what? I hope he goes up and get it fixed. Like Dennis is I want to put points on the board. I want to work on our game plan and get things taken care of. But you know, working. I'm done after this game. I'm done talking about Mark D'Antonio for the rest of no more. His name will not be mentioned. Exactly. There's so many ranges of emotion. But then when you get to this point in the wink, you know you feel really good, not relative to what happened last week. Just relative to what I've seen this week. You know, going to the game tomorrow. Really optimistic going to going to the next game. Just because of, you know, seeing the guys practice all week. City game plan unfold, you know. You know, you know, we have a really good process. And so you know about this, Tom A. We got actually a really good, you know, And then I start to get excited about the game, you know? Sure And and you also know, because you're very familiar with this rivalry. Obviously that if a Steve might say you throw the record book out the window Because of this rivalry and how many things have happened over the years that you kind of scratch your head and say, Oh, my, but that's because this is Michigan State. At Michigan Kickoff it noon in Ann Arbor are broadcast time starts at 10 30. And it's going to be a good game. No matter how you look at it exactly right. I mean, that's awful about it. These robber games are special. And you really can't throw, you know, records out the window and and so you know, it's not just another game. That's what makes college football's so special. And so I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity. Teo to compete and the Gamma NUS magnitude. I think the one thing that we can guarantees you won't have The turnovers that you had in that first game. I bet that was practised and practised and practised. Yeah, I've never been. I don't think I've ever been a part of a game that has has looked like that from a turnover standpoint, but we have we have Done, Uh, additional things in practice. Tio work to eliminate those turnovers. And so you know, I sat on it. In saying that this week so all things considered coach. What are you looking for? Tomorrow? I'm looking for a clean football game from our standpoint. You know? Ah, very, very physical game, but execution on offense, Defense and special teams. We believe in playing complementary football and you know, we all have to Everything's of our team has to be at their best in order to be able to get this done, Officer. Sources: Big Ten expected to cancel football season; no games for Michigan, Michigan State in 2020
"It is not official yet. But we know the big 10 presidents met, and the reporting from a number of different sources now is that 12 out of the 14 said we want to and need to Reluctantly pull the plug on the Big 10 college football season, at least for the moment and move it to spring. Want to get to the down and dirty about what's driving that decision with Steve Courtney? Who, of course, leads our team when it comes to Michigan State University football Hasty What's going on there, guy? How's everything, my friend? Well, I am sorry, because I know this is this would be a deep disappointment, and I have no doubt that it will become official sometime later today or tomorrow. What's AH, in your mind what's driving the decision? Why are they so doubtful that they can move Can't move forward with some quarantining? Well, first of all, guys, I participated in a zoom meeting with the new Michigan state head football coach Mel Tucker. Last Friday, and at that particular time coach Tucker was cautiously optimistic that the protocols that were set up would be successful and again. I say cautiously optimistic because he realised, of course, a za nation were at the mercy of this dreaded virus. Well, as you pointed out at the outset of our conversation, Big 10 presidents voted 12 to yesterday to end the fall sports in the conference and look guy. Here's the thing. I'm sure like me. You have been asked by a gazillion times going back to march. Is there gonna be college football? Is there going to be college football? Is there going to be NFL football? If I had a dime for every time I've been asked? I'd be a very wealthy man. The fact of the matter is our nightmare has begun because it's not going to be a shock to a lot of people guy. There's not gonna be college football this year, and the question is, why would there be

"Us from live dot com Talk about Michigan State football and the Spartan insider for him live dot com. Wenzel joins us, Matthew, How you doing? Are you good? Mel Tucker, anxious for his first year workouts going on Covert 19 battle more news in the public eye spikes in cases in other states. But Michigan is doing very well right now as good as any populated state in America. So tell me how covert 19 He is affecting Michigan State football in the adjustments Mel Tucker and his staff are making as those players came back to the science ing. I mean, it's you know, it is obviously affected every program, but in Michigan State unique, and you know the obvious late coaching change. And when you have a new head coach, and almost entirely new staff, you're doing new things and you didn't get a single spring practice. So I mean, that really limits you when you when, you know, I know, obviously, to try to make up for his best they can with. You know the meeting to resume and, you know, try and get to know each other that way, But you really You can implement only one online and going through and doing the various things that they've done with apse that quiz the guys on to see if they know what the new system you know, in plays and stuff like that. But until you really get on the field, you're not going to know. So I think it had more of Ah In effect at Michigan State, then than most programs may be anybody else in the Big 10. Anything is Mel Tucker's focus when he's sitting with his staff, maybe from day one when he took the job that they're looking at one of the, if not the toughest football schedule of the Games are played there looking at revamping the offense in terms of just personnel. So what do you think so at the top of his list right now, I would think it's a Q B. Yeah. I mean, that's obviously a huge thing. I think, you know, Obviously, I already put together your staff on your staff that, um what are we going to do, Which, you know, Obviously, part of that is comes with filling out your staffing. You know, he knows what he wanted. He knew what he wanted in these guys and what they bring to the table. So, yeah. I mean, it's evaluating the roster trying to figure out what you got, Um, water than major areas You need to address. What do you feel pretty good about it. And going forward, Obviously, like we didn't talk about that's been complicated, then recruiting is always a huge thing. Especially for them getting a late start when you don't take over till February, mid February before you really get your your staff in place on the lake. Never actually, you know, you really gotta play catch up in the 2021 classing in If there's one silver lining, I guess to this whole thing is not being able to be there physically working with the guys and not having spring practice, give them more time and still does, uh, focus on recruiting man wins. "You know I think we had a shared vision of where we wanted this program to go I think you'd have to ask him ask him that question but again I'm committed to this program and we're gonna go on iron incredible coach and but that I he tried to put on a brave face today but that is a defeated it see you athletic director Rick George what if the answering it the on answerable questions on why mail talker in the middle of the night like the Baltimore colts decided to leave see you for Michigan state coaches we places all the time it is a reality of the business is not a great reality but it's a reality none the last bite there is still in the dirty game of college coaching still some common courtesy items and Mel Tucker with don all of them keep the communication open with your athletic director did so the first go round but winds party came back to him George was out of the city and out of the loop talk to your players address your players before you go do you do that so now Mel talkers in east Lansing and he has the gall to use the word integrity in his initial statement you have to wonder like cal boys great drew Pearson wondered today on Twitter because his grandson committed to see you if Mel Tucker is a con man all of us in the media have had interactions with Mel Tucker any law seems like the most genuine guy there is by the way he laughed is jazz soul not white male talker publicly portrays himself fast he can leave whenever he wants but for him to put out the initial tweet you know what I don't even care about the tweet the tweet is a tweet but then he goes on a media tour he does three interviews with two different Denver radio stations yesterday reaffirming his love for see you his commitment to see you the build the grind the relentless all these other hashtags and buzz words he's like to use why are you doing that if you just know that Michigan state might come back to up their offer or you knew it because he knew at that point that looks Luke Fickell wasn't taking the job why do you go on the media tore you made it so much worse not just the way you left but the fact that you were so adamant you went out of your way to tell people that you were staying in boulder ages saying it's a bad look is just not even close to enough and now see you is left to pick up the pieces and our second story today is based on that Rick George deciding that Darren Severini is going to be the interim head coach of the Colorado buffaloes but for how long we did get a glimpse into that when he Rick George was asked today how long the interim coach could stay on and whether it would be into the season it's tricky right so you know we want to make sure that you know before we make a decision on a in a room that the coach wants to be here and it's going to be here and and how does that play out the future because you know I have an interim I think is is great to have in the short term but you know we're going to go out and find the best coach it could be on the staff and it could be on you know on a variety of other staff so a little bit and non committal on that I think it was a no brainer decision to put Derren Severini in charge of this program in the interim very well like deep sea you ties recruited a lot of these guys that are on this team it was the perfect way to try and do some damage control by putting him in charge but the ultimate question is is he Mister right or Mister right now and I think absolutely Rick George needs to scour the earth to try and find the perfect guy to come in he can not be hasty he cannot be knee jerk in say I'm just gonna give the job to Derren Severini can't do that nor are based on what he just said there do I believe he will what if you like the idea very be enemy if I am air P. enemy I get all the interest in the world from see you I get it if I'm see you when I'm making a whistle as he is at the top however if I Merope enemy I am primed to be the first guy chosen for the next open NFL head coaching gig it's kind of crazy that he didn't get a head coaching job this time around but now that he's won a Superbowl if I were a team that's thinking about firing my coach I don't know if they think that way here in the off season but you know if I'm a team that has a code sets a little bit on the hot seat Eric be enemies at the top of my list to and if your air key enemy see you ties see you love a side do you want to leave that do you want to leave Patrick my homes and you read because heck the enemy might be named the head coach in waiting in Kansas city we don't know where Andy Reid is going to do moving forward maybe any reader to trying keep Airbnb from leaving says you're gonna be the head coach next year I have no idea but if you were aired the enemy would you rather stay in Kansas city or come to boulder right now I can't imagine that he would want to leave Kansas city and that's not a knock on see you at all it's yes he's in a good spot and see use kind of in a bad way right now in tomorrow and in the coming days we'll start to put together other things I'm sure reports will come out but the safe pick would just be to keep Severini as the head coach or go in fine mark Helfrich or somebody like that with see you ties I'm sure Dave Logan's name is going to be thrown out there he's thrown out for the CS you job so why not I know the net the knee jerk reaction is to say let's go get one of our own let's go get someone who would never do this to us but are there that many guys out there that would never do this kind of thing I'm not talking Mel Tucker level I'm just saying is there somebody is there enough guys that are out there that see you would be truly their destination school that can also get see you near the top of the pac twelve again I think that list is pretty small so what Rick George has to balance is the risk of the next guy I hire might do the same thing and the fact that if they want to play Big Boy college football they gotta go get a Big Boy head coach so I expect this search to be wide ranging maybe urban Meyer's name comes up I don't know we'll find that out in the next few days but Rick Georgia has to go big game hunting he cannot be complacent out complacent the right word he can't go for the safe pick to protect everyone from getting hurt again because the plan here is to make see you relevant in the pac twelve and I don't know that there's somebody off the top of my head outside of the enemy that would look at see you as a dead at destination and would be able to get them to where they want to go our let's go I want to get out my brightest thoughts one more time here store number three there's no comment I haven't had a comment to this point so in the past thanks next question I know we talked about it yesterday but I had an epiphany last night because I said you know what this socks I wanted to be like the movie major league I want us to report for the Rockies en route for the Rockies to win in spite of Jeff bright it's but here's the problem if you root for the Rockies and if they succeed Jeff prided twins because he keeps telling us that this team doesn't need any changes and if this team with no changes goes on to win then Jeff prided she's going to be further emboldened to be pompous to be holier than now and so he is put you in an impossible position as a fan because now you can root for the Rockies because the best thing for the Rockies is for Jeff bright H. to eat a little humble pie I'm not saying I want him to be fired I don't think that's a bad course of action from Dick Monfort at this point what you hope pages changes like just realize that the way you're acting is not the way that you're supposed to act and if you are in a larger market you would be fired by now so you hope the changes but if he doesn't you know he'll land on his feet but the only way that happens is if the Rockies don't win this year so because he continues to avoid the question because he feels like sign in avoiding the question he doesn't feel like he needs to answer the question yes the anything to me or Patrick Saunders are Thomas Harding anybody that covers the Rockies and he doesn't feel like he always anything do you because he did talk to the media at fan fest guess why he didn't talk to you either so if your Rockies fan for the first time in thirty years he kinda can't root for the Rockies because if they succeed Jeff prided succeeds and nothing gets fixed five two two nine eight seven two but how well let's mix in some optimism on the show holy cow this is been to per se nuggets take on the Lakers where they need to do to win Katie when G..

"Not at I'm telling you this story because even though Mel Tucker is the figure head of the program he's not the program it's as assistant coaches is the support staff it's everybody else that brings it all together what we know about mill talk as a as a football coach by the way it was one of the things he said on our show yesterday was that he the the guys that are running those work out right and more time to spend more time with the players then the coach that's right it in and you know when when you when you consider who mail Tucker was all the offense he did call the defense so he was you know it wasn't up a football genius you know I love football geniuses what he was was a great recruiter certainly we can find another great recruiter to become the head football coach at the university of Colorado who knows a thing or two about call an offense a defense as well all right to if you want to watch I'm in three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five if you want to just get heard and I want to just drop us a message not wait on hold three oh three seven one three eighty two twenty three Erin in Montebello Erin Europe with big Alan Jo Jo I came away what's a parent what's up there in August on there going to a terminal situation of one big al was saying get you recruit more to the school you do recall that assistant coach is even more than the head coach is the figure head against of glory in all but do you conclude you're committed to those cultures and all brothers annals athletic trainers and everybody to the program and I'll still feel like you can be the rocks you know I would think like immediately you might wanna promo code share of to keep him in there get some stability but in the long term I don't know what would be the enemy is a good choice I mean why not people say he doesn't want to come back to college but you you never know somebody come back out and bring stability here come with a high powered offense if he can recruit no doubt about that no doubt about that he got charged Colorado California you know you can still get here to the state yes the young players in Colorado there fill in Colorado as a university it took a lot to do with that but I think Colorado has a lot to do with that it is to change the way the energy just with the university overall so whoever's there whatever's there they don't do good but I think you may delete a salvage the season does to would be on my list to kinda get some stability and get it rolling you know that calm to keep that momentum going but you know things happen you know why do you get a blade with leg kicks and did it you know culture do this no more strive to make saving does he doesn't always seems that excitement it's it's it seems that next save and does it whenever he wants to and the last cool is upset the new school is happy about it this is the business I mean I meet Mel Tucker was on Nick's saving staff he learned from the best by the way thank you for your call we really do need that I mean just think about it make saving man I mean if the wind blows long enough he's out of there I mean the brat I mean you don't get coaches to stay twenty years anymore you know maybe this is Nick save his last job but I wouldn't I wouldn't bet my last dollar on it yeah I think you maybe just you you you hope that the coach has more than one year it gets a chance to actually do that would help a lot longer than one year but I would say that you shouldn't reward coaches who haven't done nothing yet you should reward people who have not putting in that work in showing you that they have an excellent area of expertise and I'll tell you this while at Georgia not targeted called a defense that was Kirby smarts the pants and if you don't remember Kirby smart was a defensive coordinator at Alabama with Nick Sabin so what what what are we doing what what what what are we doing as a Colorado football family are we about to get all sad and down in blue because we lost the recruiter come on man got to be better than that Bruce in Denver you're on with big gala judge John Cale a what's up Bruce I have never called before and I think I was one of the greatest guys around but I think you terribly naive to think the kids don't come because of coaches who may have come for all the right reasons but ninety eight percent of those kids go to those big time schools because of coaches I didn't say not because because I say because of not because of the head football coach they'd get relationship with the assistant coaches because those are the first point of contact and those are the relationship that you need to keep strong and clear hi Bruce thank you very much your call I Stephen is in Broomfield Steven your I came away with big Alan Jo Jo what's up Stephen Hey guys eight out of perspective we don't put yourself you're sure to get get recruited all suddenness change after you talk about it that the coaches we gotta keep some assistance to keep these recruiting class all we are going to see these kids at that because of what happened I just gotta get your your perspective how you were recruited and I'll hang up but because I just like to hear what I feel for these kids I just like to get your perspective on that thank you Stephen and I appreciate the phone call and it just so I just want to give you a little bit of a risk perspective of how this works okay so coaches we have no took on yesterday and he talked about coaches move it's a part of the business and he just said yesterday own these airwaves that his defensive line coach had moved on to the university of Tennessee okay look man this is this is this is the business of football when I was at the university of of Colorado I were a defense of coordinator was Lou Tepper and Lou Tepper was a great great guy it was the our our defensive coordinator he left and became a cult someplace else end up becoming went to Vandy yeah I don't know where to go to Vanderbilt I I think you went to the university of buffalo eventually because Khalil Mack while he was in college okay but he was my defensive coordinator but guess what my take which came right after right after Lou Tepper and he was the defensive coordinator of record that helped us win to be a gate and titles in a national championship change happens all the time in this business you just don't remember it because it's been a while since the head coach walked out on us all right three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five you want to chime in you're always welcome to our techs line is five six six nine now this is big Alan Jo Jo on K. away the voice of Colorado.
