Okay. I agree. At LSU, that's a lot. Three and 7, at Missouri, that's a list. Okay, four and 7, Florida state at home. That's a loss. You're right. Four and 8. That'll be fine. Everybody. Upshot could be 9 and three. They will be four and 8, man. The people will be who they can be another thing. I want to tell you about the AC Duval calendar. Tiny beautiful things now streaming only on Hulu. And welcome back. We are here two weeks from right now. Everyone will be gathered in KC and waiting and hearing what the first pick will be. Of the Carolina Panthers. Mel Kuiper, junior has been doing mock drafts for as long as I can remember in this calendar year, and we're delighted to welcome him back to our show on a busy time. Mel, thank you. We always appreciate you squeezing us in. Paul is the pleasure, my friend. Well, thank you so very much. So the question you've been asked everywhere you go, every day of the week, is what's going to happen when the draft begins. Who is Carolina going to take? All indications, Paul right now that Mach four at Bryce young quarterback from Alabama being the number one pick overall kind of went back and forth because it looked like after the pro day of CJ Stroud, he would be the number one pick and then all of a sudden we're back to full circle back to Bryce young. So it looks like Houston now is making it very interesting. Adam Schefter is thinking that they may throw a little bit of a curve ball here. Maybe not take CJ Stroud, maybe drive the defensive player or trade out of there. So I think now all of a sudden the second pick is now the first big ball and it becomes very interesting. We have mills four on the board mill. Let me ask you a question about Carolina when they made this move a couple of weeks ago, do you think they knew what they wanted or they just knew they wanted one of two people or one of three people? I think they probably had a pretty good idea, Paul. They kept everybody kind of guessing because of the size factor for Frank Reich being always the issue or his prototypical quarterback was always that 6 three 6 four range. But in this particular case, now we already are, as you say, two weeks before the draft, I thought last week was when I got the Intel and I checked with Adam and Morton. They said, hey, Bryce young, we're here. And the consensus among my people, my Friends and leg was Bryce young, so I said, what everybody, but the consensus was young and that when Morton and Adam said young, I went with Bryce young and looks like all indications right now. I know if I'd write it in ten yet, but I'm close to feeling that way right now, Paul. No, you've been doing this longer than anyone. So I'm curious about the methodology that everyone uses. And you're only as good as the information and there are only three people, maybe a few more involved in the actual decision making process, how do we know what's going on? I mean, I guess I'm asking you a pedestrian question for a reporter, but where does this Intel come from? What happens, Paul, as you talk to your friends in the league and you ask them about other teams because they're not going to tell you what they're doing. So you try to say, okay, if you were picking number one, who would you take, knowing what you know? Well, I would take CJ strader. I would take Bryce younger, I would take Anthony Richardson or we'll never. You get a wide array of opinions, which you try to do. That is, say, okay, what do I think based on what I know? I hear what they're saying. Let me just check with Adam and mort to hear what they're saying and you just put it all together, Paul, and that's the way you do these mocks are very fluid for that reason because you're not the team's not telling anybody. So people think they know, but they really don't know. We love surprises. The draft. It's like Christmas morning. You don't want to know what's under the tree until the Christmas morning. You don't want to know a week or two before. That's what makes it special for the kids. So I think when you look at where we are right now, we would hope we wouldn't know for sure. I'm open. We don't know for sure, but it seems like Bryce young is going to go number one. And then like I say, when you hear two, not being CJ strut to me, what I say then is fall, why not? Why is Houston who needs a young quarterback like Stroud or Richardson or levis, not going to take one? Or they think they're going to be awful next year and get Caleb Williams from USC or Drake may from North Carolina or Michael penix junior from Washington? I don't know. I don't think any team thinks they're going to be one of the worst teams in the league before the season begins. So I don't understand them with that being said, why a two? They would not take a quarterback. So let me get to what's after that.

"If the Gators can rely on a running game that I think is going to be really impressive again, then they're going to have a chance to kind of start moving in the right direction. To me, that's what this year is about. No one I think is realistically expecting them to beat Georgia or top ten or anything like that. But if they can improve, again, cut down on some of those mistakes and you're looking at an 8 and four, maybe things go really well, 9 and three seasons that gives them at least a little bit of momentum heading into what would be a pivotal year three for Billy. Okay, Matt, I'm not holding you to this. I've just asked you to speculate. So here's a schedule. 8 four maybe 9 three. Okay, for those who are driving around and can't see our screen, it begins at Utah, mcneese, home game against Tennessee, Charlotte, at Kentucky Vanderbilt. We'll do this in piecemeal. 6 games. Tell me what the record's going to be after those first 6. Well, I think they lose to Utah. I think they lose to Tennessee. And I think Kentucky's a coin flip. At Kentucky is a coin flip. I don't know why not? Look at the way Kentucky's played in the last few years at Kentucky. I'll give it to you. So we'll go to losses in a tie. And we'll come back to the tie later. Second half the season. At South Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, at LSU, at Missouri, Florida state, those 6 games. How do you handicap? I think three losses that I would feel pretty confident penciling in Georgia LSU and Florida state. And then South Carolina is the other kind of half of that coin flip where that goes either way and that's the swing between 7 and 5 and 6 and 6 if I had to pick. Okay, so I'm not trying to be a prosecutor here, but you said I'm going to go 8 four, maybe 9 three. You gave me two definite losses on the first half, which Kentucky, a coin flip. So that's two and a half. Second part, you gave me three with at Missouri at South Carolina in Florida state up for grabs. Citing what you told us correctly. Well, I think Florida states lost. Again, okay, so the losses are Georgia, LSU, and Florida state. The coin flips or South Carolina and Missouri. Do I understand you correctly? South Carolina and Kentucky to me are the coin flips. So again, if I say 8 and four, 9 and three, that's the most optimistic spin that I think I could put on it because I think that 6 and 6, 7 and 5. What do we do at another way, Matt? We'll put the schedule back on the screen. We're somewhere between maybe we're at 8 and maybe 7, 5, 8 and four optimistically. Let's say things don't go well. Maybe some things Utah's a loss. Kentucky's a loss. Tennessee's loss in the first half, Kentucky, Kentucky, Utah, so there's three losses on the front end, George is an automatic LSU in Florida state. So how many would we have now? Got 6. South Carolina, Missouri, our tweeners, correct? Correct. We could get to 8 losses without really trying couldn't we? You could. Just based on where this program is. And I'll say this billing acre seems pretty confident about his team. Is that putting on a face? Maybe. Or maybe there's something there in terms of the chemistry and stuff behind the scenes that I don't see in the 20 minutes of practice, right? But yeah, you could see this going pretty not very good for the Gators. That's certainly within the card that we sit here on April 13th or whatever. Let's split the middle, let's say it's 6 and 6 again. How does that play in gatorland? That's a really good question. I think a lot of Florida fans are understand that this was not a turnkey things are going to be better immediately situation. So I think the smart forest and know that this was going to take time and the way Billy approached the transfer portal and going in and going out and his first season showed that he thinks he has plenty of time. But you and I both know this is a fan base that is not a custom to patient. When you look at they were in mullin went to three straight new year 6 bowls and got ran out of town in year four. Jim mcelwain won the east twice and didn't have a chance to go for the third because he got run out of town. That's the way this is. So I wonder if it's going to be more of the same if things go south for Billy this year or don't improve much or if Florida fans kind of say, you know what? There's a couple of coaches in a row that didn't work out. We ran them out too fast. We actually have to be patient here because that's the way this is going to the ship is going to get turned around. So it could go either way. Give us one reason. One real reason, one legitimate reason why Florida fans should feel good about billion AP or today. Because he knows what it takes. He knows this is a talent acquisition business. As you said, literally in his first day. And there are some incremental gains that he made on the recruiting trail in his first full cycle. And they've got three top 60 recruits here in 24 as well, including blue chip quarterback and DJ lag life. So if I'm going to spin this optimistically, I think the recruiting has improved overall and there are signs of optimism going into 24 that the foundation is going to be laid for a longer term rebuild that Billy knows what it takes because you saw it first handed Alabama that this can be done. This is the way to do it. It's just up to him to kind of put that together. You could argue that Derek Dooley knew what it took as well. He worked for shaman at LSU. You could argue, will must champ. You can argue a lot of people have been around successful programs and failed at SEC schools. Why should we believe Billy Napier is going to change the direction of Florida football? I think is what fans are asking. You know that. You're down there and I'm and I realize I think we're all trying to find positivity. I'm just struggling to see

"It was like three or four years ago, it was that it was that Clemson defensive line, right? Where it was like Cleveland Farrell and who else did they have? Christian Wilkins. Dexter Lawrence Lawrence. Jury's out. Certainly on how that went, but I was talking to duke Tobin before the Super Bowl about Trey hendrickson. And I was like, how did you isolate because there was a couple advanced metrics that had said he was the most supporting cast dependent sack producer of the NFL, the year before the Bengals signed him in free agency, and then it turns out he's just in otherworldly ISO player and just did these tremendous things. And you know, he said, there really does take a large effort on part of the scouts to isolate him against other guys who are high quality players. And so I think that there was, you know, certainly, you know, certainly a big push for that. Why it, for example, you know, he's going to just sidestep and rip through a guard who's just standing there trying to pass in pass protection, but is that because, you know, you have to double two other guys. And so I think and you have Kirby smart who's the best defensive coordinator in the NFL. It's in college football. So it's an interesting question. And I think that some teams are probably going to be better at pulling him out of the context of his defensive line than other teams. It's unfair that we only said that about him. He's like the 8th Georgia guy we've talked about on this show. That's true. That's true. Yeah. Read of us. Maybe they all make each other better. American corn farmers, a proud and chosen profession inspired through generations. Tested, resilient, and committed to giving back as much as they're growing, pushing the boundaries of what's possible with every bushel. While replenishing every increasingly precious resource, like the reduction of soil loss by 40% with every acre grown in a world where sustainability matters more than ever, we need all the help we can get, and there's no greater resource than the capable hands of American corn farmers. I've been a metro station manager for 20 years. People need to know we are ready for them. That means keeping everyone safe. Right now, the focus is on trains and COVID precautions. Rioters and employees wear masks. All buses and trains have improved air filtration. And we're working hard to get all our trains back on the track. My name is Jeff doubt. I'm doing my part to keep the D.C. area moving. Let's go to Penn State's Arnold ebu kiti. Kind of a fascinating guy, not a whole lot of buzz until kind of draft season rolled around here. I would absolutely defer to other people who know, I don't know. How to assess these prospects better than I do, Mel kuipers and one of them, and I saw Mel kiper is like, he is totally on the bandwagon here. He thinks this guy's a sure phi first trumpet. I don't see it. I see a really high effort guy more of a face up rusher. I don't think he's bending the edge against anyone. I like that he goes so hard. He's got some Twitch. He's got, you know, he's gonna be really hard to sort of lock onto, but to me he's just sort of a smaller guy. I don't know. I'm just not quite seeing it. I think he's a fine kind of rotational edge rusher when it's all said and done, but I have a tough time going round one with him. You gotta trust milk hyper man. Milk Kuiper gets gets bashed. But I think his top 100, some mock drafters will be like, look at how good my mock draft is. But you look at mill's top 100. And I think that's where a lot of your bread is buttered as like a true draft analyst expert and that guy is like otherworldly. He's very good. Aka, yeah, I agree. I mean, the size doesn't jump out for me, but I think that there's a lot of things that you could do with them, right? I mean, like Penn State had him on to block kicks. They had him on to they had him on to do a bunch of stuff. And so, you know, he could just be one of those pieces of the puzzle guys that just flies around and does a bunch of interesting stuff on your defense. But again, you know, you'd have to have the right coordinator. You'd have to have the right system. And I think the league very generally speaking is moving away from some of the things that he does the best. At least temporarily. Okay, I am like I said, I will absolutely defer to Mel kiper. If you're going to go with someone's take, take him over me. Can I tell you a good melt Kuiper story? Yeah, always. Okay, so I was doing, I was doing a story on Paul Zimmerman. Our great mock drafter, the late great Paul's Zimmerman. About what was arguably the greatest mock draft of all time. He got like the first 12 picks right or something totally crazy like that. And even there was like two trades that he nailed in the top 12. And so I interviewed Mel Kuiper about it. And you go through Mel kuipers people and so whatever they say Connor or from Sports Illustrated is going to call you blah blah blah. And so throughout the entire interview, Mel is going, yeah, absolutely Ryan. And he's like, and let me tell you something else, Ryan, about this. And Ryan Ryan Ryan Ryan Ryan. And so I was like, whatever, I don't care. And he was great. He was awesome. He was so deferential and spoke really highly of Paul, who we all, I think, love and appreciate his work and his commitment to football journalism. And so he hangs up the phone, and I was like, okay, cool, so I could just go back to transcribing and writing. I get a call back from a Maryland number, which is where he's from like ten minutes later and he just goes, and this is the height of draft season. So Mel Kuiper every second of his day is budgeted from the end of the Super Bowl through the draft. This guy is spoken for. And he calls me back ten minutes later and he goes, oh my God, I was calling you Ryan that entire time on the phone. He's like, your name is Connor. He's like, I'm so sorry about that. And I was like, you don't have to apologize. It's amazing, you know? And that was like the coolest thing I think one of the most human things because I think that once you reach a certain level in this business, you become sort of subhuman, but that is not the case for milk I think he's one of the truly good people in this business. Absolutely. And like you said, if you are talking to Mel Kuiper in the month of April, he'll call you whatever you want. And you just accept it. I mean, that's totally understandable. Yeah. All right, last guy we're talking about here, that is David ojabo from Michigan. Obviously I have the rupture to Achilles at his pro day and that's probably going to knock him out of round one here. I'll just say this as someone who, again, not terribly good at this, but any edge rusher who has a really good spin move. I automatically think should go first overall. I think you should trade multiple first round picks to come up to number one to get an edge rusher with a great spin move because it just looks cool. And I.

"1000, including Sox games for the Chicago Land area. Welcome in what is the final edition of the first draft podcast for this season, and before us a load of Mel and Todd. I'm gonna give them like five extra seconds to catch up. On some sleep and say Thank you, everybody who has spent time listening to us over the last handful of months, plus the people that I'll make this podcast possible. Mike Boss Matt Up for David Presley helped bring this podcast to life through video, Daniel dot our intrepid producer and all those involved with the audio product. It was a banner year for us, and it was a banner year again for Mel Kiper Jr and Todd McShay. Mel, How are you doing after the draft? Have you slept more than like six or seven hours per night? Since then, a little less like that night. I was like that survival. This is our kind of our bear Grylls moment, throw us out there and see if we could come back and still stand today. After a couple days after the draft and we're still standing. We're so excited. Todd Scott is mock draft for next year coming out Thursday. I've already got some guys raided that I got a big board coming out in two weeks for next year's dress up this one of being a real view mirror will move on. The next year pretty soon, But today we'll kind of review everything and come up with some some ideas about who we think did well, some surprising, puzzling moves and wrap up the dress. I'll tell you what guys. A lot of good players went undrafted. And they've already signed with respective teams there, You kind of know, 8th and 9th round fixed, and some of those guys could be in camp and helping things this year. The National Football League having hanging in e. I told type of the story yesterday, So my parents both worked for Delta. Right Growing up. I've been flying. Plane since I was like, 89 months old. I've never been able to sleep on a plane ever. I so we I'm flying from Cleveland to Boston, and I got a tap on the shoulder. It's a flight attendant, and he says it's time to go. You got to grab your bag and go. Ah, 100 Thousands He did in one, eh? That was my seat. One, eh? 150 people had passed by me. I slept through the whole thing. I look around. And there were people with. You know, the cleaning crew. The trash bags. Cleaning everything up on things is embarrassing. Isn't it? Lucky that plate one head somewhere else that take you out to take it. Oh, yeah, Growing up in Germany. That is amazing. Well, it it's certainly well earned, and the content has not stopped. The draft is over. I know Mel is done. It's draft grade thought has done his biggest Question. Mark. You mentioned that tires doing his 2022 mark track, which comes out on Thursday mail. You're working on your big board. The draft really is a 365 days a year event, but we don't want to let this draft that just went behind us. Passed by without taking at least one more bite of the Apple to review some of the picks that were made some of the strategies involved by teams and maybe those that we felt like fair, stronger than others. So we're gonna start and reviewing this draft by starting with teams that we thought Stand down draft knocked out of the park. So, Mel, I'll give you the first papal was the team knock, knock this draft out of the park. Two ways. The Miami Dolphins awful like that a great dress. I don't do. They get players to help on both sides of all. We got 2023 1st round pick from the 40 Niners, but Jalen Waddle Jalen Phillips should be impact performers of pass rusher and Phillips and a receiver. Return Man. Put returner and Waddle John Holland Liam like the bird hunter long that second tight end Fornell Coleman at huge book an underrated attack while you mask They did really well in the Chargers, I thought lined it up. They sat. They waited for Slater to be there. He was a 13 Asante Samuel, junior cornerback from Florida State. On the more underrated players goes that 47. Then they get guys like Chris run for good pass rusher in the fourth round. I like Brendan. Hi. Mrs. Potential in Nebraska know about the Senior Bowl practice. I went back. It was the tape in the rascal. He held up very well there with the Cornhuskers Roundtree running back in the sixth around. Nice pick there. So I gave the Chargers and the Dolphins of two highest praise the Giants. Kind of amended that Came up the B Plus should have given him a day They moved out twice. They got a first round pick next year from Chicago. They got social or in a second for various Tony and the first added some real good players along the way. So I'd say that the Dolphins charges Giants in that order for May. I was just saying that comes to mind for you. I was just gonna say quickly. Gettleman. Dave Gettleman. The GM of the Giants has never traded down before And so he kind of went against the grain and move down twice, and I thought it over. Really successful draft. I'll start with the other New York team. The Jets. I thought Joe Douglas did a tremendous job and listen. He deconstructed the roster and get got all this. This draft capital on 20 picks over to your stand so that he can maneuver around. He's starting to spend all 20 text. But it's just figuring out the guys that he wants. Obviously sitting at number two they love Zack Wilson, the quarterback from BYU. He knew that he wanted to go up and get Elijah there. Tucker, the offensive tackle in college, who's gonna kick inside the guards jets to protect the quarterback? They want to do. With Wilson what the previous regime never really was able to do with Sam Donald and that's protect him and put weapons around them, so they utilize a little bit of that draft capital to move up. Sure, I think it was 18 overall to get Elijah. Very Tucker was a 14. Okay, 14, and then and then early in the second round, they sometimes lucky you got you got to be lucky to be good..

The draft kicks off tonight at seven o'clock, The Jacksonville Jaguars hold the first overall selection. It's widely expected they're going to take quarterback Trevor Laurence out of Clemson. Beyond that, though ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr expects chaos terms of the overall draft, I said back in August, most mysterious draft Ever covered in 43 years. A lot of question marks lot of uncertainly. Lot of unpredictability will make this draft. I think the most entertaining off ever covered in 43 years with the op tasked with injuries with covert interruptions like I say, This is one that we have never seen ever before. "Me today in the National Football League draft, which is tonight in Cleveland, Ohio. And it is my show, so that's what we're going to talk about right now. Move over Mel Kiper. We welcome and Tanner Carlson from our 24 hour news center or NFL draft expert. Cowboys pick in the first round at number 10 provided there are no trades upward down. Houston picks at number 67. That's their first pick, and it doesn't come until the third round. So unfortunately, we're not going to spend any time on Houston because they need everything. And you don't. Usually sometimes you get lucky in the sixties 3rd 4th 5th round but not not often. Let's start with the number one pick. We know there's no surprise there. It's going to be quarterback Trevor Lauren's going to Jacksonville. Yeah, 100% on. Think you're going to see a run of quarterbacks very early on in the first round. That's every It's everything everyone is talking about. When it comes to this year's draft is the five quarterbacks in the first round. All five could possibly go in the top 10, which bodes well for Dallas, sitting at number 10 because Dallas Obviously doesn't need a quarterback. Alright, so number two. The Jets. They need a little bit of everything. They unloaded. Sam. Donald, You think the Jets will go? QB? I think they go. QB. I think they go. Zach Wilson at BYU. Okay, Number three San Francisco is the Garoppolo experiment over. Yeah, I think they're trading Garoppolo within. Maybe within the draft. Maybe tonight they trade Garoppolo. Who knows, But I think they're done with Garoppolo. I think they go quarterback this year as well. And I think they take your guy. I think they take the Alabama quarterback Matt Jones. The number three. Is there anyone that would could benefit from Garoppolo? I mean, from my vantage point has been a major disappointment. I think he is a He's a bridge band Aid type quarterback who is you know, as long as he's healthy, we've seen what he can do. He can take you to a Super Bowl. We've seen that. But he has to be in the right system, and he has to be healthy. The health is the biggest concern. The biggest question mark surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo. All right, let's move to where it gets really important. The Dallas Cowboys at number 10. There are some rumors. There's always rumors that they could be working some kind of a trade to get Julio Jones from the Atlanta Falcons. They've got him on the market. I don't know why you would need another ride. Deceiver you've already got Cooper Lamb Gallop is coming on s O. What you go from scoring 35 points a game scoring 40 points a game And you still let the other team scored? 50? Yeah. What do you do with the wide receiver? No wide receiver doesn't help you at tight end doesn't help you so old. Those Kyle pits lovers out there as as talented and as great as he is, If he falls to you at 10. I suggest trading back to somebody not in your division, obviously so you don't to face him, But I think I think at 10, you have to go corner. There are murmurs. There's some rumors that filly wants to trade up ahead of Dallas. To get the Alabama corner. Patrick Ser tan. Why would you benefit? Why would you do anything to benefit Philadelphia or anybody in your division? I will doubtless message unless you've got some plans that you know, we're gonna make you better. Well, no, it would be. It would be their trading up to say Denver, Carolina at eight or nine ahead of Dallas to take a Patrick Ser tan will be Phillies move. They wouldn't trade without Dallas would never Would hope would never do that. But there are some murmurs some rumors going around that they really like certain and they want to jump ahead of Dallas to get him, which would leave my personal favorite corner would be JC Horn from South Carolina. So still, you're getting a really, really solid player to help your defense out. Okay, So you think it's db for me, Corners safety that they're interchangeable? Whatever. We know Dallas is Dallas doesn't need Let me rephrase. Somebody on the offensive line makes it better for your quarterback linebacker. You know of somebody on the D line is going to make you better defensively. But Dallas year after year after year after year, and I could say that for the next 30 minutes. Go through seasons with no strength at all. It's safety your corner. I think that they've got to go. You mentioned pits. A moment ago, the tidy and out of Florida this Panay Sul offensive linemen out of Oregon, arguably the best offensive lineman in the draft. No way he's sitting around at number 10. I would be shocked, and if he does fall, you grab him. No. Then in that case, you've got to go to you. You have to go to him. I think that is the most valuable position and the best player available. So you go not only value, but you also go best player available at the same time. I think that's a 100% guarantee. If Sewell false attend, which I'm giving it like a 99% chance that it does not happen. Alright, quickly. Here is we wrap up you mentioned certain out of Alabama and the kid out of South Carolina, South Carolina. One of those two, you figure will be there at number 10, I would be shot. I'd be out of my mind if one of the two wasn't there a 10. I think Dallas comes away with one of those two guys. Okay, And we know what Stephen Jones says, doesn't matter what Mike McCarthy says. Doesn't matter. The only thing that matters and it'll be this way until the unloads The team at some point is what Jerry Jones wants to do. He might let us son Steven, and you might let his head coach They have a say something right now. I don't think they have a say hey, might let them say something, but they don't have to say right now. You're 100% right? And that's what scares me with Kyle pits because it's almost as though if Kyle pits does fall to you at 10. You almost have to take him because the Giants and Philly have 11 and 12 and you can't let him fall within the division opponent. And the point and so you You can't let a talent like that fall to somebody in your division, so and you know, Jerry, he wants the shiny toy. No wants the new Lamborghini. And that's what Kyle Pitts is, and that would give you averaging. 45 points a game on offense, but your defense, allowing 50 points a game so Say whatever offensive player in terms of skill position, wide receiver running back tied in whatever you want to draft. It's doing that player a disservice. If you do not address the defense and fix that problem, quickly, everything we talked about. Give me one guy. You You'll be elated if.

"There's only certain networks are allowed to be on live during the draft. That's right because of rights fees. So what are we reactionary. No we'll we're allowed to be live on the radio at different story. Yeah you can't you just can't be doing a show it's nfl network it's espn. That's what it is you kind of interesting so over the weekend. A couple of my playing hockey over the weekend but buys like oh you know. Mel kiper made this mistake. Mel kiper made that mistake. How many has mel kiper actually hit on a million of them and i happened to be one of them but you know. He started a cottage industry. The reason we are all where we are today in enamored in the draft is because of him whether you like him. You don't like them whether you like his picture. You don't like his picks believe you me. Many general managers throughout the nfl can't oh sure there's glazed us clip of the old colts general manager of important but again look at all the they're they're moving the draft from city to city. Now it's such a big deal and it's because of what. Espn did with mel kiper. Way back when in the early part of it it's also the popularity of the gang. Give it to me that you know. They started now. Moving the draft around its espn's covenant nfl networks covering it sirius xm radio covering every every game fans love it and the nfl's recognized the opportunity to to build it and build it build a pitch count remember. And the next thing you know he's on tv spouting all these numbers and names and everything else. So is he going to get them all right now. Of course not. Does anybody get them all right now. I mean most of the mock drafts are horrendous. And a lot of this stuff. I mean there's more than there are great players at teams. Don't get them right. "Mark said I do I think that there are some chances on guys that day too and I'm never going to rule out the dacor the her cousins or Russell Wilson path for somebody, but certainly it does feel like the top five guys or 2022 is Mel Kiper put it is not a terrible way to look at this trapdoor any draft really cuz the end of the day it's only one of these guys is probably going to end up being good and it's probably going to be Trevor Lawrence and everything else is probably going to be bad. So, so that's usually how this works. Maybe Justin Fields can sneak in there as well. But Alex and I will be back on Thursday with a mock draft live mock draft are going to try to do better than we did last week and I mess around as much as we do with the trades, so we'll be back on Thursday night to do a live Minecraft. Thank you so much again Mark for coming on idea Mark all the time and he answers my call log. Back questions, no problem. So I really appreciate all of that as well and it's free advice to which I definitely appreciate but it's always great talking to you Mark and I'm sure if they dropped the quarterback early and then we're going to he's not going to get into I have as much longer discussion about that guy absolutely guys know where to find me. I'll have it. This was a blast. I've been don't stop asking the questions man, whenever you need something answered. I'll try to do my best. But with this point band, you don't need any help you're doing it pretty well on your own but I guys it's a lot of fun man. Appreciate you guys Mark. Is there anything that you want to plug specifically of your work touchdown wire or anything like that? Yeah. I'm a doctor and I do a Top Eleven in each position actually do top 14 receivers because they were guys like come on Ross a brown and Amari Rodgers that I just I just could not leave out. By the way. I am on Ross ain't proud is Julie tatham 2.0 by the way is great. I like watching that kid bad. I'm not. That's a few times just he's like Jacoby Myers, but a little bit faster to me, which is exactly what the Patriots should be good. In for that's the profile they should be hunting right is they know Jacoby Myers works, but he's just not that great of an athlete to like be this generational type of player for them. So just go out there and get Jacoby Myers that run off in the high for Force instead of low four or five or four six. You know, that that's the guy that I would always be looking for now. So yeah, we're doing top eleven twelve fourteen different positions. You can check those out on touchdown. USA Today awesome. Sounds good. Definitely go ahead and check that out and check out Mark's Twitter. He posts a lot of quarterback videos and stuff like that as well. But again mokja Thursday night. We'll be back on the Pod next Tuesday to talk more draft as well. Thanks to everybody that watch live everybody watched after the fact it will be back on Thursday night. Thanks guys.

Philadelphia Eagles Sign Super Bowl 47 MVP Joe Flacco

"Big news coming out of philly. Yesterday joe flacco agreeing to a contract with the eagles. It's a one year deal. Three and a half million dollars. Guaranteed the opportunity to win. Four million more in incentives. Now what does this mean. As far as the eagles and their draft plans remember. They only have one quarterback on the roster until this and that's jalen hurts and they have the six pick in the draft and as you see mel kiper junior and his latest mock has been taking the superstar receiver tamar chase from lsu which would be awfully knife or any quarterback that they have there but so does this mean mel again. It is not your expectation mel with us field. Yates as well here today. It does this mean and again. You're you're mock has them taking chase anyway but the signing flacco does that in your view. Close the door on any possibility that they draft a quarterback at number six. I think they would even going in before flacco. You think about. Joe flacco wise ian eagle thinking about the baltimore raven connection with the philadelphia eagles. Joe douglas and joe flacco who drafted where the want super bowl with the baltimore ravens. So there's that always that connection you can always go to. Guys are picked up later in their career. So for joe. Douglas bringing in a joe flacco you think about what he was doing with the jets in terms of the situation there. And then you've got the philadelphia eagles their same type of thing that raven connections. So i think when you look backing up jalen hurts right now. I don't think he's a threat. I think jalen that guy get jomar chase and go four with him and help jalen hurts and then reassess after the year's over that's what they will do that influence with the raven organization in philadelphia as a factor. I think it's a factor throughout the green and there always is joe. Flacco is a good backup came in the league. Same your matt ryan did and that ryan slow playing great football of course super bowl but Joe flacco did. But i think it's a good situation to have joe flacco there behind. The jalen hurts. Jalen hurts gets hurt. Your season's not over joke and still play. But i think this is jalen team right now. I thought it was carson wentz's team that didn't work out. But i think if you get your march help jalen hurts and then you make your decision air to this year whether in the twenty twenty two draft you have to think about drafting. A young quarterback failed. Same question to you. Does this mean in your mind that the eagles are out of the quarterback market at six. It does not greedy in. Here's a simple reason. Why i agree with everything else that i'm going to double back to that in just a moment. I just have long believed that if you are convinced. A player can be a franchise quarterback that if he's available at six. You have to at least consider it. If you're philadelphia. Now that being said all the indications this offseason from the previous reporting from more about the eagles plan to build around jalen hurts this year plus the signing of joe flacco which at least gives them a veteran option at the very least relatively modest priced by the way three point five million dollars. There are so many signs at the plan. This year is to find ways to make jalen hurts better so i still believe that ultimately the eagles are gonna be in prime position to land one of the best pass catchers in this year's draft a quarterback should not be entirely ruled out. And that's just me having seen the league long enough to know that sometimes teams do things the catch us by surprise even if they should not have caught us by surprise

"I don't I would just say false. I don't think it I don't think it matters. I think it's starting tackle money. So I guess I guess my answer would be false six and a half million guaranteed up to you know, and he has a realistic chance to earn ten eleven million dollars. Yeah, that's big money. It's more than Isaiah Wynn the I don't think that the the contract is not indicative to me on edge. It can be because even if you're damn good right tackle, you're still getting paid also, right? All right. So the second one before I get to the draft question the second one Marcus Mariota, you told us off of weeks ago. One of the problems with Mariota not getting traded was he was unwilling to move on his contract as we now know earlier today. It was reported. He finally relented I moved on the contract. Does that make him more available in your eyes? And if he is more available because of that contract now did that ship sail to use a term from earlier birth? In this podcast is the Mariota ship sailed on out because New England as you have also mentioned kind of question the leadership and whether or not he was an alpha. I would say that that the ships sailing on Mariota is likely true. I will say Nick and and I haven't been online in the last couple of hours. So, I don't know if this is a merged I'd be very interested. And actually I would be very surprised. If as part of his deal here that Mariota was not given a no-trade clause that would seem to be a fair trade-off to me would be like, okay. I want to stay I like this offense. I want to be developed cuz I really think that's what I think he looked around and he didn't love the other scenarios or vet. He might encounter and sort of wanted to stay but dropping my salary cap like that to stay. I want something else in return and I'd be like I want to no trade clause so I control you know, we get to the trade deadline or there's an injury in training camp or something like that. The Raiders do now have a commodity off the Patriots can't find the quarterback either Garoppolo or in the draft or what-have-you in before training camp the Raiders now at that price do have a commodity wage if I were Mariota, I would want control on where they could send me. So I'll be interested to see if that ever comes out whether he does have that. I just I just never thought that the the Patriots were big Mariota people but perhaps at this price. I think I think it UPS the chances. I still think it's unlikely. All right, here's the draft questions from the listeners true or false quarterbacks will go on the first 4 picks of the draft as Mel Kiper's latest mock has it. True and I think that V.

Raiders make surprise pick in latest Mel Kiper Jr. mock draft

"Mock draft three point. Oh is available on. Espn plus right. Now and here. We go no surprise at the top. Trevor lawrence has been there and we'll be there for the moment and started to the moment. That pig is made. He's going jacksonville. And that's not going to change at number. Two mel projects the jets to stay put and select quarterback zach wilson who would be the team's highest drafted quarterback since they took joe nemeth thousand nine hundred sixty five at number three. We have a trade that panthers would move up from number eight to select justin fields from ohio state carolina getting its quarterback of the future miami. Picking up more prime picks. And the falcons make it four for four to begin the draft selecting their quarterback of the future trae lanes. Should it go this way. It would be the first time ever that quarterbacks go with each of the first four picks in the draft. We take a look at the rest of mel's top ten. After the four consecutive quarterbacks we see some other names you will get to know. Kyle pitch superstar tight end. More pass catchers jamarcus devante smith jail waddell notably absent on this screen. Max jones the fifth quarterback in this first round the star from alabama who mel projects. Going number fifteen to the new england patriots and let's start there because mel we spoke about this the last time you broke this down for us. You had max jones going considerably higher namely number eight overall. Why do you see this drop. Greenwich carolina eight with matt rule had max jones at the senior bowl practices where he was exceptional right. So you figure carolina's stuck at eight. They would look at mack. Jones new england and fifteen is built. Bellichik nick sabin connection and obviously looking at a quarterback to get back to. Maybe the tom brady days. Okay get your that type of quarterback which is what mack jones is his style and the way he goes about his business as a pocket passer so once carolina in my mach three point. Zero was moving up to get justin field. Mack jones next opportunity to come off. The board for me would be new england at fifteen.

Ohio State's E.J. Liddell shares threats, vulgar insults received after Oral Roberts loss

"Ohio State, A two seed took a first round lost Orel Roberts of 15 seed. Roberts became the 9th 15, seeded to defeat a two seed in the round of 64. The one is the largest N C a a tournament upset since 16 seed you, NBC upset one seed Virginia and 2018 as a 20.5 point underdog. Of course, the outcome of the game was a big deal for both teams. Ohio State forward EJ Ladell led his team with 23 points and became on Lee, the second Ohio State player with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. And an N C a a tournament game. He's also the first ever Big 10 player with those numbers since 2000 and 12. The guy's definitely one of us use most valuable players, but he missed a free throw in the final seconds of the contest. On Friday, Ladell tweeted screenshots of messages that were sent to him after the loss with people threatening his life and saying they wish he was dead. Here's Mel Kiper and Katie George. Don't with it. Everybody deals with it in the public eye and EJ Lovell is a young kid who shouldn't have to deal with it. But that's the reality of social media. Now that's the world these kids live in, and we all live in now. I didn't have to deal with that. When I was growing up, they do. That's just the world as I say you live in and the authorities have to deal with this the best they can, But it is something they should obviously investigating will, But it's just unfortunate that everybody that's in the public ideals with this and that's unfortunate, really unfortunate that kids have to but That's life in the world we live in right now. Unfortunately, it is, you know, social media has become so prevalent and so much a part of our lives into your point knows people in the media. We're often told by higher ups and bosses just Don't look at it. Don't listen to it. Just move on about your day, but to your point when people are saying mean things and threatening you like they did Ladell. It's really hard to just tuck it away and move on. A lot of times. You want to respond, but you also don't want to incite anything further. That's something that's reported Katie which he did report it. Yeah, exactly. And for this situation, I'm actually proud of Ladell for not just standing by for responding and screen shotting and calling these people out for the vile things that they said, and and hopefully they're reprimanded for for doing so because it has no place in sports.

Who is QB2 in 2021 NFL Draft?

"It would have been fully justified and with that we welcome you back as always live from the seaport district appear seventeen brought to you by chase. I green this get up and we have a huge our coming your wine. It starts with this. It's a quarterback sneak mc shays make board is in and wait till you see the first four picks. He's with us live to break down off the top. Then wait a minute. What did russell say. Is he talking about getting sri. Didn't from seattle the wild ride in. Nfl history continues. And then we'll tell you how the shawn watson saga plays out and what it will mean for every team in the nfl. All that and more as we get out with you when this hour which starts right now with todd mcshay post super bowl mock draft. It's available right now on espn plus all it. It's fascinating a number one. That's no big surprise. He's got trevor lawrence going number one to urban meyer and the jaguars. But here's where it gets interesting. He also has quarterbacks going to three and four at two he has the jets taking. Byu's zack wilson who has been rising up. Everybody's draft what he has been be talk of the nfl draft process so far at three overall. He's projecting trade the panthers moving up from eight to take north dakota state's train lance to be their quarterback of the future which leaves ohio states justin field sitting there. Four and mcshea has the falcons taking him fields the second highest total qbr in college football season and then jones sliding down a little bit later to make five quarterbacks in the first round in there he is the man with the mic board. It is mcshea and it's awesome. Let's start with this todd. We all understand. Trevor lawrence going number one. Nothing even to discuss. How firmly planted in. Your mind is zack. Wilson right now as the number two quarterback in this draft. I think very firmly. The first thing i do when the season is over and a govan studied the top quarterbacks. Because i know that's what we're going to talk about for the majority of this process leading up to the draft and after lawrence. There's a little bit of a gap and then at zack wilson. And then there's a gap between gods trey lance from north dakota state and justin feels from ohio state. So i think he is clearly the number two quarterback in this class. The question becomes greenie. Is that the jets taking two or the jets gonna move out and allow a team like a carolina to that number two spot to take him. And that all depends on the domino's in terms of the veteran quarterbacks right now where does shawn watson wind up carson wentz. We know is going to get moved to chicago indianapolis. I think joe douglas. The general manager is kind of waiting. And seeing some of these other quarterbacks go and he's fielding phone calls he's not aggressively making calls but fielding calls to see maybe if they can move sam darnold and if they do exactly since the pick for the jets at number two and if not as i said i think the jets will move outta to and wilson will still wind up being that number number two overall pick in this class. I grew the. I've been saying for a while. I agree with you completely. He'll be number two. The question is who winds up making the peck. Then the other part of this is. I'm old enough to remember a time when we wondered if justin fields might supplant trevor lawrence as the number one draft now all of a sudden these the fourth quarterback off the board. How did that happen. You go back. And study games against indiana northwestern. And then the college football playoff national championship game against alabama. He completed around fifty two percent of throws with five interceptions. Those games in my opinion. You look at it physically. He's big. he's sturdy strong who mobile. He's got a big arm all the traits that you look for. But he likes to see his receivers. Come open and get stuck on that. I read very frequently. So you compare him with trae. Lance and i have identical grades on the to train. Lance didn't play the level of competition. Didn't play as many games as is justin fields but i think he processes the game a little quicker in terms of going from his first into a second and third and seeing the entire field. So it won't surprise me if it feels is third quarterback off the board. But i think they're kind of bunched together in that third tier of quarterbacks behind lawrence wilson and then the other two and then i want to ask you about the guy that you currently have fifth because i'm a regular listener of the first draft podcast and so i'm listening the other day to you and field. Yates and mel kiper talking about what was going on at the senior bowl and everyone is raving about matt jones. Your buddy mel had max jones moving this thing and i believe he has him sort of. I believe he hasn't projected higher than you have in projected. What do you see for mack. Jones as this process goes on the fifth quarterback in the first round. Well i think what's going to happen. He's matt jones is going to benefit from the fact that these four quarterbacks are gonna come off the board quickly and it's probably going to be cut because of trades moving up. I have matt jones going number twelve overall right now in a i had chicago moving up to twelve in san francisco. Moving back to twenty we have to see where carson wentz go. It does go to

"Know I've made the comment that that's the best quarterback. That's the best college quarterback I've ever evaluated, and so Then you're just trying to, like stealth out of the airport with no one seeing you not stop. Medic, Coffee shop, Not getting any picture Take And you just on to the next school like we didn't even go there And and yeah, you know, There were all the other checks all the other things that you can't see on video with personalities. Fantastic. He's He's one of those guys that's probably always hanging out in the gym when he was in high school. Um, he comes from an athletic family. He's got a bright smile. Um You know, I mean, it was it was all there and to see the success he's having. We were picking 11. Andy went to 10 and assumes that trade took place. We knew that was for my homes and we were staring at Latimore in my home, so those were too good scenarios. But he's fun to watch it. Certainly tough to defend. Stick the knife in and twist around alone. Now, maybe four years later. It's a little easier, convenient for Shawn to say what he just said about what he scouted that day because we know how great Mahomes is. But if he walked if he's being honest, And he walked out of that meeting. They left Le Bic. They got back on Mickey Loomis, who's not making this easy. Who's the owner? Benson? They got back on Mr Benson's plane, and he said to his group That's the best college quarterback I've ever evaluated. I don't want to hear about how well the Bears can't be blamed because nobody had Mahomes going that high. I wish someone smart enough to evaluate quarterbacks was in the Bears organization because there were people that saw it after his sophomore season Bread Beach. Was then doing college scouting for Andy. And this is John Dorsey was still the gym went to Andy Reid and said, This will be our next quarterback. This is our quarterback of the future, not after his junior season after a sophomore season. So obviously there are people out there. That know what they're looking at the smart ones. You guys. Some people can evaluate quarterbacks better than others. Some guys can evaluate certain positions. Whether it's they played that position in college, or they played against that position in college. They watched enough film watching something specific, where they were at what they understand a particular position. Or a position group and do very well. When they do they try to draft that group. And then sometimes there's a certain position. They're just terrible act. They're all flat. They all have strengths and weaknesses, right. I wish there was someone in the bear's building that had the strength to figure out How do we find a quarterback? Because they have with time and time again, and they did very bad but your weakness where whatever that weakness is go to the free agency market and find him in free agency. Don't try to get him in the draft. You don't know what the hell you're doing or looking for. Get him guy that's established to bring him in your program. Just say the hell with it. Here we go. So there were people out there that knew what they were looking at. And so you know, I'll never understand this argument. Over the years while you guys were being it's ridiculous. Nobody had Mahomes going that happy. Who cares? I don't care, Todd McShay and Mel Kiper. Well, I love Mel Kiper. We smells good at his job. Mel Kiper's not paid to pick the players for the organization's. He's not Kuipers, a draft analyst, draft and less rates player's overall grades never puts him in an order. I've never heard a lamer argument. Well, the draft experts didn't have him going that high. Who cares to add to that, too? They? They're limited by what they can do. You just heard Sean Payton talk about how they went to go to campus. They ahead of time gave him again Game plan and said, study this so that we When we get there, we can go over and see what you thought so they wanted to a Valium. You have been doing that. And Todd McShay don't have that accent. No, they do not. So if you know what you're doing. If you maybe have dinner with the Shawn Watson I mean, if you know what you're doing. You don't screw it up. And it's not easy to get over when the kids in his second straight Super Bowl when you don't know what you're doing after you draft him, you stand there with everybody there and go over. Everybody had thought he's acting number one guy. Exactly that shit. That's the first thing that would just make you scratch your head. Go, all boy. Oh, boy, you picked them because everybody said he was going to sporting news had him There's the operated quarterback. Good, good for the sporting news and like you would take it. You can come at it from every angle, too, because it's compounded by the fact that he traded up and took the wrong one had they set back at three. Because there were you know what? There were two generational quarterbacks in this draft now granted, Petricka Holmes is the best. But you know what? The consolation prize was to Shawn Watson. If for whatever reason, someone traded above you at two and came in and took Patrick Mahomes, You know what? You would have been sitting at three with Shawn Watson and he didn't give up any extra assets. Oh, no. They traded up and they took the wrong guy. It's craziness. So they've got to now start again. You're going to spend this offseason trying to find Your your quarterback, right? Like teddy upset. You've gotten the quarterback situation completely right? No. If we want enough games, no, Everything else is they're all good. Everything else is there. Yes, I mean, that's top notch, but you better find him..

"Saeko? I mean, it's just startling, right? I mean, sadly kind of used to bad news, but Sometimes it's worse than others. I guess not to compare things, but I mean something just hit home more than other ones. And this one really hit home and Sekou Smith, Mark Spears were guys that were super nice to me when I was just starting this business doing a nightly radio show on On serious Sanga was just serious, not Sirius XM On black, Shawn said. They didn't have the even answer our texts and emails. And yet they answered quickly and 99 hours of the time. They said Yes. And then when they came on They were awesome. I mean, sake, who was just Ah, super super guy, and it sucked to read this yesterday. Um, and it was sad but also, you know, uplifting to read all of the people remembering him so well, but I mean, 48 husband, Dad, and it's just It shouldn't be like this. Yeah, I know. I felt the same way. So we'll always remember Saeko around here on the show, No doubt about it. He was awesome for us. He was absolutely awesome. That said, That's a big loss for the sports world Sports Media World NBA world and for our world, no doubt about it. We got headlines this morning. Where do we begin with the headlines? Guys. It's not Curt Schilling, not Barry Bonds, not Roger Clemens, not Scott Rolen. Nobody elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday. And since covert kept the Veterans Committee from picking someone last month, there are no New Hall of Famers. For the first time since 1968 years ago, writers didn't elect anyone. But at least that year, There were veteran committee choices. Shilling missing Cooperstown by just 16 votes see then as to be removed from next year's balance. Preferring to wait for that Veterans committee to consider his resume. Instead, Bonds and Clemens finishing with less than 62% of the vote, they have one year left on this main ballot. JT real mood, So remains a Philly After all, the All Star catcher expected to re sign five years $115 million. That annual average value of 23.1 mil is a record for a catcher, just more than what Joe Mauer once got from the Twins. The Blue Jays were signing former A's infielder Marcus Simeon, and the Twins at all World shortstop Andrelton Simmons. Heisman winner Devante Smith chose not to weigh in yesterday at the Senior Bowl. He wants to wait for Alabama's pro day but this is fueling concerns. That he is under the 611 75 that the tide list him at Dolphin's head coach Brian Flores does not care. Good players are good players. Good players can I think I think we all can see that this guy's a very good player made a lot of plays in college made a lot of plays and the big game's biggest game to feel his opinion is important. Because Smith says he into its hunger by Loa have talked about a reunion in Miami. The Finns could use the third pick on Smith. Now that I don't think they have to use the third pick right. He probably go later than that. I'm trying to think what's the other part that they get? Do you think you could go that high five. He's a top five project. I mean, he's Mel Kiper just pulled it up, has a man number two of the Jets. Yeah, He's not getting out of the top sheet. I would say I thought I saw Mark yesterday that had a bit like 10. The Dolphins pick a number 18. So they got number three number 18, so he doesn't fall the 18. I wouldn't assume What would you use the number three pick on him. Maybe I don't think he goes to the Jets number two, though, And remember, there's no combine this year, just all these pro days and personal workouts. So we won't have the hysteria of combine risers or Fuller's this year, either, although that that did also remind that the Vontae Smith and people Lottie now both have something in common. They won't get on a scale in front of people. Now. It's you know, under seal. Why you just come out of left field consistently and try to drop elbows on belies a reason for it. It was too cute up on a tee not to take the shot. He be made a reference that Devante Smith not want to get on scale, but I can't let it pass the Listen. There's no I can't let it pass. I gotta cue it up in and out of the park. And it's just not a shot. He is never directed. There's like a three minute preamble there. Rush Sports day and then o. P s, by the way people with himself. I mean, look, we all this is in a very said showing a lot of ways. We're just on a and save Christmas. I'm trying to live, but we got to spice this up a little bit here. He will get on a scale in front of people. Neither will divide they Smith. The joke. Was there a cute it up. Thanks for spicing it up. We appreciate it. Yeah. Yeah, I really needed that wrong. I mean, you could could you just talked about all the papa Gino's that Eli pounded yesterday? This happened yesterday. Birth Dog party. He had a good time. He won't get on the scale today, either. You know, he gave them Wait. How much did you spend on that? Overall? It ended up the tab in the coming $113. Just, uh, that was 55. Yeah, And then there was taxes. And then I didn't realize that didn't include his actual daycare price, And then I had to tip them on top of it. So the grand total ended up being more money that I pay for my daughter's Day, Carol Week and then Eli and all of his friends wanted tickets for the skee ball. And so they had to play that not jobs before you know it, you know, a party for five dog suddenly goes crazy. You're at 113 Bucks later yesterday more as through a third birthday for Eli. Now, this was no parents allowed. No humans allowed just the doggy day care center and all of his friends. They had puppet chinos, which is a fraud, reading a frothy type of mix made by Starbucks that they could nose around in. They had snow pause. What do you call that? The A school for the garage. He paused. The A frosty paws ice cream. He had some party favors and pictures. Some birthday. Some birthday butts to sniff. That was pretty exciting for them..

"Higgins and Tyler Boyd all lining up wide for job, Earl and I made it the poll question Now on Twitter. It was about 50 50 50 said. Oh, I like that 50 Cent. I don't like that. Um, I heard I listened to a podcast Mel Kiper and Todd McShay. And they brought up the subject of Devante Smith. Don't trust what I say. I like it now. I'm not. I don't have to have him. I like him. I don't have to have here's Todd McShay on what he thinks about people who are worried about Devante Smith. The little things that he does getting getting off the press. They're our elite corners that air trying to press him and they don't have a chance. And then driving a guy down one way and then shaking him left and then coming back right and doing it all in full speed. And but then also Temple temple in his routes and all the little things he does, and then Has 170. What is it? 1 75 £175 receiver. He doesn't care about going over the middle. He'll go take the hit and he just keeps popping up. I just There's there, dudes that are special and Devante Smith is special, and that's it. And his road running in his toughness and his catching and traffic and it's everything. I don't care if you're 64 or 61. What's the difference if you can get open and you can catch the ball and you can make plays? And you could make plays after the catch? What is the difference? I don't understand why everyone's so worried about 63642 20. Who cares? Like If you can't see it, you're blind. Is that Z My opinion? Todd McShay earlier today on the podcast, ESPN podcast with Mel Kiper and Todd McShay. And, of course, Mel weighed in Here's Mel caper on what he thinks of the Heisman Trophy winner and potential Cincinnati bangle. The year that Marvin Harrison that's we all. Compare him to when I was with Marvin. The year he came out, and he has the same meant had the same mentality of Devante Smith, special Worker Baller all business, Everything you want to say about a great professional, but yet And Todd, who went number one. The year that Marvin Harrison came out, Martin, then go. Number one. You know, Marvin wet in the middle of the first to the Colts, right? Keyshawn Johnson went number one. He went number one. He had that imposing size and had all those and he had a great career. Marvin didn't go number 2345. Because he was slight. You know, you're getting coming out of Syracuse and look at the Hall of Fame career. Marvin had so this notion that Devante Smith shouldn't be 23 coming off the board make to try to make the same argument. Marvin should have been two or three coming off after keeping with he went number one, Todd McShay, it L caper on the podcast talking about Devante Smith, who dazzled Monday night in the National championship game for Alabama will head down the stretch doing on this date, which includes Who occurs in the history of Cincinnati Sports and his 8 48. "He now has more national championships. And the other 129 active FBS coaches combined. So that on Yahoo Sports today let me repeat that one. Coach Nick Saving has more national championships than every other college coach on the FBS level combined at 129 schools. And how about the Heisman winner Devante Smith. Last night 12 catches Ah College football title game, a record 215 yards, receiving three touchdowns and did not play the second half because of the finger injury. It would have 12 catches 215 yards and three touchdowns to play. The game was Jones to Smith? That was 42 yards just before the half. Somehow, some way. Devante Smith was one on one against poor tough. Borland, the Ohio State linebacker. The perhaps the lasting image of that game will be Devante Smith streaking away for a 42 yard touchdown and tough Borland. The poor guy, chugging, huffing and puffing behind is the middle linebacker who had no chance to catch him. And if you're like me, I don't know if you are, if you're like me. It was a moment last night where you found yourself watching Devante Smith make the sideline catch where he contorted his body to have the hands and got his feet down. And you're thinking Wait a minute. And I close my eyes and I said, I see. I see. I see Joe Burrow breaking the huddle coming to the line of scrimmage and I see him motioning Joe Mixon behind him in the back field. And I see Joe, take a look to the left. And I see Tyler Boyd in the slot and I looked further toe left and I see tea, Higgins. And then Joe brings his eyes back across the defensive line of scrimmage over to the right and he sees Devante Smith. And I'm thinking Oh, I had a chill wind a shiver. The hair stood up on the back of my neck. I can't be the older one last night who watched that game, it said. Do you realize what this offense might look like? If Dion Devante Smith was drafted by the Bengals at number five? Anybody else? Man. The Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian Sark, who's bound for Texas. It was like he was playing a video game license. I actually felt sorry for Ohio State's defense, actually, the way the game is played down college football. I feel sorry for defense is a general because it is such an explosive pass. Happy rules. Favorite Just explosion of offense in college football mean Mack Jones and I have no idea how good Mack Jones is gonna be as an NFL quarterback. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper seem convinced he's a first round pick. I saw Mel had him at what number 15 to the Patriots and his latest mock draft..

"You know his coaches and sort of realized that, you know. Hey, the reason you went to Alabama in the first place. That's the best way to prepare you for the NFL. That's your best road. Suits fulfilling your dream of playing professional football on D stuck with it, you know, And for that reason, I mean, he went to Alabama to see craved. Highest competition. You know, he he loved the idea of playing in the SEC against the best players in the country, and he knew that was the best road to the NFL, and it just required him to kind of stick with it. And then these last two years, obviously Totally validated his decision. Tortoise and the hare man is the reason why I spin around. He just waited out. Be patient, And sometimes it doesn't work for people. But it won't work for him. And what a triumph for him. Yeah, Yeah. I mean, you think about how many 18 19 year old dark Patient. It's a great call, right? You know, and it takes time to learn that that part of the deal on and I was thinking about that last night watching him because there were a couple plays where You know, he was waited that extra second or two took throughout the whole developed and I'm thinking, man, that's you know, that's the kind of thing he did in life, too. He wasn't necessarily great at 23 years ago, and he figured it out, and it's kind of cool to see his development that was said in the story. It's a great piece people reading Yesterday's Chronicle. Um, uh, I'm kind of growing kind of growing up to be a man kind of learned how to be a man and that all plays into it. By the way, it's nice to hear that You know, he still he still maintains fierce loyalty to the bay. Right? Cool. He's not. He's not like I'm done. I'm in Alabama kid. He said in your story. No man can we can't wait. Can't wait to get back to Northern California, right? Yeah, Alabama's a different world as you know. Yeah. Yeah, I think back to that first conversation. You know that that summer after he got back from his freshman year, and you know, he just laughed, he said, Man, the humidity you just hate is no joke, you know, and the culture and it's just so different in the Bay Area's as you guys know, and Um, you know, he went there because again that was his best route to his dream. And you know, it was not a place. Imagine, and she would enjoy living and he happens and he was candid about that. But it served its purpose and he met a lot of good people. I think you've made a lot of good friends that you could tell last night. That team is really close. You know, I think the seniors in particular have Ah clear bond, and that was part of their success. Yeah, Fun stuff. And and for you to have that front row seat Now, is there any talk is there just you know, since you follow it? I saw one report that said, lad. If he'd come out last year, you would have been late second early third, But now he's Mel Kiper, I think was the one who said probably the first runner running back taken is that the research bear that out? Yeah, Yeah. I think most of the stuff I've heard is his first or second at that worse running back taken and probably late, first round. I mean, running back, you know, are not valued the way they used to be. Um, I was having this conversation with my dad the other day Who I was asking about nausea where he'd go. And, you know, I mean, I was a Bears fan grew up in Chicago. Back in the day. Walter Payton was, I think the fourth overall pick, you know, And that was not unusual in the seventies and eighties. Right, Ondas? You know Emerson covering football? It's It's changed the passing game now. So running back just aren't valued enough to go. I think very often in the top 10 picks, so even if not, she's the first running back. It sounds like middle late first round. That's a hell of a lot more money than he would have gotten had he gone last year in lower second top of third Good stuff are great piece loved it yesterday and always just to follow the whole thing You made us feel really invested in him from his senior year. Danny back all the way. So that's good sports writing, buddy. Uh, I appreciate it. Next time was talk golf. All right? Yeah. There is still golf out there. Well, maybe a TNT time. It's only what about a month away. Uh, I don't know if we're going. I don't think we're gonna be here, man. Yeah, I'm going to be really everything. Well, everything's covered. You know, everything's different now. And, uh, I hope I hope you but Um, And if nothing else that probably go down the final day, But it Z. You know, the access is just so different now, and it's as much again as you know, it's that's an event where you really benefit from being on property. And, you know, go in your own way and finding things so hopefully hopefully I'll get down there can't wait, man. Take care of it. Run. All right. Thanks for having me guys. Iran coach. "You on a wild card weekend. Can you set up for this afternoon's game? Tonight's game Right now, The Titans are leading the Ravens, 10 Nothing. And tomorrow is the college football playoff. Between Ohio State and Alabama. ESPN Radio's presented by progressive Insurance and all guests appear via the Good Year hotline. So right now in the NFL, the Titans again lead the Ravens. 10 Nothing 10 minutes to go. In the second quarter. But tomorrow night we've got a good one. As college football is going to come new clothes, which is sad, but, hey, we made it right. So it's been kind of a weird week J. In terms of Ohio State in Alabama. There were kind of rumors or things circulating that maybe the game is going to get postponed because of covert issues with the Ohio State in Justin Fields health, you don't know if Alabama's going to get the receiver back. There's been a lot of ifs. However, The game is going to go on his plan, and it is tomorrow night. On. We're going to find out who's going to raise the trophy. Find out tomorrow night because football playoff national championship presented by 18 T coverage begins at 7 P.m. eastern on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. What do you like in this one? Jay? It should be interesting because I expect to shoot out and that's all. Obviously on the foundational belief that Justin Fields will be healthy enough. His ribs are good. And he's able to be the mobile productive with his arm quarterback Do we saw against Clemson? I mean, a lot of people counting this guy out. He was on a free fall on the draft board. Did you take a look at Todd McShay is where he was to now where he's moved up. Simply off of that game versus Clemson. Has a lot of people believing me included I was covering that came with a C C network with the focus on Clemson and assuming that they'd be moving on in Miami and I would not be here next to you. I would be down there covering the national championship. That was not the case in this game. I look at what Alabama was able to do against Notre Dame, and that was essentially toy with them. Alabama was able to run the football Nagy Harris, who finished fifth in the Heisman, voting back Jones and Devante Smith. Obviously, the chemistry between those two really reared its ugly head versus Notre Dame is the Vontae Smith scored three touchdowns, setting a Rose Bowl record. In this game against Ohio State. Ohio State is a second best rushing defense in college football. So to me. I'd like to see them. Just go all in on saying, Hey, we're gonna try and stop the run. Take it to the air Mack Jones. Obviously, that's a strength. But can there be some mistake's made their the secondary from Ohio State is questionable. But, Shawn, wait is back there. Can he get one? And they steal a few there. Can they make some mistakes when they're going to the air that much? Because run games? Not working. That may have to be a focus, but ultimately the analysis with this one starts with can Justin Fields be healthy enough to be productive? Is what you have to do against Alabama's put up points early on, You have to show that you can score with him. You have to play that game pressure early. Notre Dame got close to applying game pressure. But then he and book had to turn over in the third quarter, and it was cruise control from there. Damn. It needs to feel like they're being tested throughout this game. Then you hope for mistakes, But this game is going to be one in the forties, and Ohio State has to come to grips with that, no matter what their defense does. Dan was gonna find 40. They're averaging about 50. So can your offense meet the challenge there? Notre Dame was able to despite all I said, hold Alabama to a season low 31 points. We still have the firepower offense. They don't have a quarterback good enough to match Mack Jones play for play Justin Fields is that guy? So can their defense match with Notre Dame did despite the fact that I said Alabama at all this success Can they meet that mark that standard Ohio State's defensive with Notre Dame did and then go score with a better quarterback in a better offense? I think it should be a great game. I think it's gonna go one possession finish. All right, we will find out. This is game Dan, ESPN radio and on your ESPN app. We are seeing Jordan Cornett, former quarterback for the Buckeyes. Cardale. Jones was on game day yesterday on ESPN radio, and he said he had Justin Fields might be hurt, but it seems like everyone's hurt on both teams. Here's Cardale Jones. Help center. Not he's going. He's going to a hospital, but I've seen the wind behind center so that I can imagine him going into the game. There's no way that he's not going to play in their game. And you don't think about how what percentage you have. You've got onto injuries. But guess what? Attend the other guys that you planned? What about what they got some type of nagging injury as well. No one will be 100% going into this game to everybody's dealing with something, so I'm pretty sure he's not gonna let that hinder him or even play a part in his decision of playing this game at the national championship game, got their little online and you got all summer to recover. No doubt about it. So that was Cardale Jones, former quarterback for the Buckeyes, and so he knows that Buckeyes program really well, in fact, Jane I talked to Cardale Jones. What was that two weeks two weeks now, and he had had dinner with Urban Meyer the night before, Like he's very plugged in what was going on while he was in college, and he says, Oh, issues secondary. Gonna do Okay against Alabama, Take a listen. Think it's going to be a challenge. I mean, this is a great offense by Alabama, but we also have a pretty good secondary starting to come around. You know, we started a little bit in the beginning, but I think they're starting to find a group of next week spot and this is definitely the top challenge of the year. Kind of shut down, all of them, not just passing the fact but their offense as well. Okay, So that was Cardale Jones, former quarterback for the Buckeyes a little more sound for you. Here. Let's talk Go to the Alabama side. Here's Mel Kiper Jr yesterday, saying album, Alabama's offensive line could be a little shaky against Ohio State's defense of line. Take a Listen about Kiper Jr. The Ohio State Front, four dominated and really got after not over. The quarterback was disruptive in the backfield against the run, So I thought the offensive after Clemson was overmatched. Alabama's offensive line doesn't have landed Dickerson but the best offensive line in college football still really good. The key. There's going to be Me pressure up front bothers quarterbacks in the middle of field, disruptive them along the interior. That's Tommy Toki I and Haskell Garrett against that new center there was in for a landing Dickerson and held up against you against Notre Dame. But will he hold up? Chris owns against Toby, I and Garrett. Yeah, It's an interesting point there from Mel, except for the fact that I'm glad he did mention the cabbie out that Alabama's even without Patterson is still the best offensive line in the country. And that was a question with Clemson was the The resistance it could provide in the offensive line versus Ohio State. It will be a markedly different challenge, but because I think Ohio State is built to be to stop the run, even against a talent like nausea, Harris and Alabama's run game It then becomes yet to fold. Can you then put pressure on Mack Jones, where he's seeing guys in his face when throwing a football? It's gonna be a big time challenge. Because Alabama is he lied up front. But if there's going to be a place where there can be some challenge to try and mitigate the distance between these two, it's understanding. It's gonna be a shootout..

"To who was across the field from the Crimson Tide. People did. They just can't stop him, guys. I mean, the young man he's a excellent route Runner has great hands. He's just so consistent. He saw that, his coach Nick Saban, said. He's the hardest worker. He takes everything from the classroom and takes it on the field. Just outstanding player. The A P Player of the year the first time ever for wide receiver and the M V P offensive M v P of the Rose Bowl. Yeah, and when you think about Notre Dame and their performance, we're gonna talk about that. I'm sure it nauseum that life didn't matter who was in it doesn't matter. Who was it for? Alabama's clicking their offenses is unstoppable and played really good defense tonight, too, so it doesn't matter about Notre Dame or who else she would've put in their Alabama is the best team in the country have shown that throughout the season and they proved it again. That's why they're going to play for another title. Notre Dame's now lost seven concern. Could've New Year, six games since 2000 Bobby Carpenter on Freddy and Fitz Simmons on Brian Kelly's tenure at the helm of the Irish. Brian Kelly is a tremendous coach. I think he may have taken Notre Dame to their ceiling. I would really do like watching this. I thought they would compete a lot better than clubs and I was one of the guys who thought they had a chance to be constantly using primitive based upon what I saw earlier. I'm like. Okay, well, Trevor Lord didn't play. But Trevor Lawrence wasn't playing defense. Those skulls he was out and I mentioned, you know some of the defense of land all around. But I didn't think that much of an impact as they did, and so the Crimson Tide earning a spot January 11th in that title game in Miami against Ohio State, ESPN radio pregame coverage comes your way. At seven Eastern Kirk heard freaked and Chris Fowler with as VP and look ahead, We'll house It's got another tough assignment on defense. I mean, what is it? 25 straight for Obama Scoring 35 Plus Smith Jones Harris. Triplets are tough to stop. If you hadn't seen Ohio safely, this kind of defensive home tonight, you wouldn't like their chances, but they'll need to do that again. And fields has to be this brilliant again. You don't beat Alabama without a transcendent quarterback performance. I think the battle of the line of scrimmage is what I'm already looking forward to the Ohio State defensive line. Incredibly underrated across the board. The linebacker play is very physical and very experienced. How they match up against starts offense, Mack Jones way He can dial it up, throwing Nagy Harris behind him, and then I think Justin Fields Christians touched on it. I don't you know this was a legendary performance, but I think in his own mind, he's capable of doing this every time he takes the field, so Ryan Day on Ohio State. Sorry for Alabama. And you know about Nick Saban? Of course. So this will be a It'll be get the Ohio against the world shirt out again because you're gonna be hearing a lot about Alabama and the SEC leading up to this game of street, a former Buckeye himself more college football NEWS, Florida coach Dan Mullen firing his secondary coach is Iran English Victorian Gray. "This dude comes around once every 15 years And slowly, though, now you've seen won't not even close. You have taken a couple steps back. Confused a lot, You know, gotta know how to get rid of the football doesn't check the football down like you'd like to I'm not seeing it the way you would want to. I do want to get your thoughts on Cincinnati. And the committee and just the message that was sent to the group of five UCF ends of saying, Yeah, the message was sent a few years ago. To me. It's ridiculous for them to move just one spot up. Then they lose the spot for not playing and they move one spot up your thoughts on Cincinnati being shut out and also not even being in the top six. Start your, um well. You're not invited to this little like it's not. It's not set up for you. It would take a mini miracle you would you think of global pandemic endemic would change this. Maybe, but you still gotta three lost Florida team in front of you. I don't know what else to tell them. Like all the things that would need to happen. They need to make a statement late in the season. They need some moment I'm going in. Remember when it used to be Porter State going into that next season and kind of created some moment? Um Before they upset Oklahoma been created. A little bit of talk like it literally would have to be the perfect storm of sensitivities to be Georgia next year. They need to bleed beat their big time teams. I think they play Ohio State or somebody early in the season. That's really, really good like they You need to have it least two games against power. Five teams that are ranked highly TV and then run the table in your conference to even think about getting in before. This is why we should expand and I know the TV rights and all the crap that goes with this and the money, but we need to expand the sport next year immediately. We need to get this done. We have more opt outs than ever. We're going to continue to have more opt outs in the future. We need as many people in the mix every year. As long as possible. Toe people excitement level across college football. It's going to make the game better. Listen, it might get Tau Alabama Clinton regardless and that's okay. That's okay. It doesn't matter. Let's bring more people to the party that could have fun throughout the whole season. Listen, my team might not win and I know that if I'm Cincinnati, you're not running the table on an 18 players. You're not news Flash. You're not gonna be family. If you're the 18. You're not going to beat him. What? You got a shot? Yeah. Least they're there at least get the play and say what if we do pull this upset? What if what if we are a little better than you think so? We need to get that done immediately. We need to get that done next season this all season when you do it, adjust that And maybe with the power five teams taking over power of this offseason would be step number one in that direction. But man, it would be awesome to see the non power Five continue to play Power five but then have their own playoff where You and me would be tuned in everybody be watching across the country coming up next on the college football playoff preview show on ESPN radio. NBA Draft 2019: Latest 1st-Round Order, Predictions

"And ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mock draft out Mel kiper Jr's three point. Oh is here with us. And we are looking forward to the draft. Mel will join us in just about an hour to talk about the new mock draft. But there have been some changes in the draft specifically one less quarterback. Now going in the first round then in mel's two point oh mock draft. So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name. To those you mentioned McLaren the wide receiver who is one of the others. Chris Lynch reminder, you just mentioned from Boston College now. Number twenty one to Seattle Eric McCoy interior linemen going number twenty two to Baltimore. Right and the Garrett bradberry. The Senator from North Carolina State who is you mentioned one the Remington award is the best center in the country number thirty one to the LA Rams where they have an aging center, and John John Sullivan. And that was that was one of the things have been saying for the Rams the last couple of years that dynasties been built on the interior. If you land a guy like that good, Lord or you winning out it is. So we'll see how that plays out. Now, the one thing that I find interesting he he has drew lock the third quarterback Mel dozen his latest mock going thirteen in Miami. I'm telling you don't take out Denver at ten in Cincinnati of eleven in play for quarterbacks. I mean. Yeah. Denver made the play for Joe flacco. But John Elway has messed this up a couple of times with all due respect. I mean, that's just outside of getting Peyton Manning. He has not figured out the quarterback spot there at ten they might be in play for quarterback. And you have Andy Dalton with his situation with the Bengals and his contract situation. I, you know, I think that there's a really good chance that they could be in play with a quarterback there, by the way, by the way, Mel kiper Jr's mock draft not the biggest item related to the draft this week. That will have news for you guys. What more on that coming up later? This week

Jaguars release Blake Bortles costing $16.5 million in dead cap space

"Blake Bortles was released by the Jaguars released. Not traded just dropped over sixteen million dead money counted against his team, and they still drop them. Now. Let's go back five years to the two thousand fourteen draft. Where was Bortles picked first round number three at the time. What did they say fantastic size NFL body type franchise caliber quarterback Mel kiper gave the Jaguars overall a for their draft that year and a Bleacher report was more cautious. They wrote Bortles is not nearly as ready to step in and play from day one as teddy Bridgewater is and he may not have the. Upside that Johnny Manziel does a him. Both Bridgewater and Manziel are currently looking for jobs Bridgewater, perhaps his third team Menzel just to job period. And now, so as Bortles all this proves is that there was no such thing as a guarantee in drafting a player and all the pre-draft type is just a lot of hot air designed to keep TV show sports, talk radio and scouting websites in clover year, round Bortles is exhibit a improving you don't know an NFL quarterback until he becomes an NFL quarterback five years ago is team used a top three pick five years later. He's cutting costing them

Hour 2: Mel Kiper Jr's NFL draft predictions

"Mel kiper junior into the show. What's up melt? Hey, guys, how you doing? Good. All right. So number one overall. Mel you have Nick Bosa going to the cardinals. You've heard the things cliff Kingsbury has said about collar Murray, he's a big fan. But he's also said Josh Rosen is our guy. So how confident are you about the cardinals going Bosa at one do guys with a mock draft you call around and you get different opinions. You try to build some type of a consensus. Steve drafted Josh Rosen. I thought he held his own for getting no help you seems like the players in that locker ROY believe in him you move forward. Josh Rosen would have a higher grade than any quarterback in this draft. If you go basically apple apple, and you try to reject a year with a year experience where they would be. But I think they're happier with Josh Rosen than they would have been a quarterback including Tyler Perry. Tyler Murray is still five nine five ten and size body type or still some things at the combine and pro day, and he's going to have to answer to give up on Josh Rosen and go that direction. I don't see it happening based on the people have spoken to. So I went with both. Over Josh Allen. That's going to be the debate the trait outta there. Do you tape boasts Allen right now, it seems like Bosa may be the lead who knows internally with their thinking. But trading out of there for team. Let's go out and get Askins. Maybe something maybe interested in listening to Mel. I'm very surprised by that draft. Order Nick Bosa is the is the foolproof, right? He's going to be a stud, but people felt that way about Nick last year. Sorry, Bradley Chubb last year, he's the best Pash rusher by so much you might as well, get them. There question marks about everyone including including. Cleveland Browns quarterback acre Mayfield, including Gregor Mayfield. Sam darnold everyone. So they're going to go, Bradley choke with not only didn't go Bradley Chubb. They went to the talented quarterback, you know, out of the big twelve who they had questions about right? Isn't that Keiler Murray this year, and isn't Nick Bosa basically, Bradley up? Well, Trump had a great year and shove ended up going to a team that utilize him and put him out there with Miller and he's a tremendous player. Tremendous young man, he's going to have a huge future and the ratio that I think when taken the war, Denzel word overcharged was what Cleveland was kind of debating there. Do you take the corner the pass rusher and put him opposite Garrett? They thought Ogbeh would come on. He didn't. But that was a decision obeyed word played well till he got hurt. I think we look at at Murray Murray is different in that he's five nine and a half. He's not six foot and a half to twenty like Baker Mayfield was and is I think that body type when you think about we've never seen before we've seen Baker Mayfield types. Okay. Before we haven't seen Cuyler Murray fight go this SARS, no conflict Kyle Murray. Guys. There's none. So I think we've talked. The number one pick four pick even a first round pick for that matter. I've at thirteen to Miami you've never seen this ever happened before. So I think some answers may become at the combine when you see him as he looked like he can hold up. It looks those guys in the eye. Does he looked like an NFL quarterback putting on a board? You know, it's football IQ should be really good the hand size people. Always look at that nine is that is that there you can do it or you can't will see hand size with collar Murray comes in at so still some things that'd be determined the answers. I got back from that question. This week is was leave Cuyler Murray at thirteen don't move him up that seems to be fair for right now in the process is that you say that Mel just this morning. We learned we got some news. Peter King was speak into Lincoln Riley, the coach at OU, and he said that ninety one percent of the past column Murray through from the pocket while at OU last season ninety one percent of this passes were from floor from Nepal. So when you look at him in comparison to Dwayne has its handicap that us was break that down. What makes? What one quarterback better than the other for the next level in light of that ninety one percent there column, right? That's a great point. Because I think you look at how do you compare? I don't remember one man's L came out. I said he's a wild card even out liar. I don't know what he's going to be Baker Mayfield. Last year was the wildcard big three. We knew it was Josh Allen Sam darnold. Josh Rosen maker Mayfield was the wild card this year the wild card again is Kyle Murray. So you compare him to Haskins asan's as a traditional guy. Everybody knows what you're getting there. Even though he was one year as a starter. We don't know we're hoping I think if you draft him say at thirteen or wherever in the first round, you hope that today's NFL okay with the shotgun so deep getting that shotgun snap not under center, basically in space Todd mcshane's but talking about the statute great set more passes batted down for six foot and over quarterback than six foot and under quarterbacks like Cuyler Murray. So today's NFL makes this happen. It's kind of the perfect storm for him coming out at the right time and the right situation. So there's going to be able to protect his body. He can slide. We know that we know how lightning quickie. Yes. That is in the back. Of his Eddie senses things that nobody else. Can't you mentioned the pocket of build? That's underrated part. He will sit in that pocket. He will wait he'll go through progressions. And he's tremendously accurate. His completion percentage. Was right. Where Mayfield was and he accounted for more touchdowns this season. The Baker Mayfield did during his great year two seasons ago. So I said three months ago collar Murray six foot tall five eleven. It's no discussion. He's the number one pick. But at five nine and a half, it makes it interesting. So let's go to the other quarterback that people are talking about many projected to the giants including you at sixth Wayne Haskins. You said something interesting to me earlier, you said that that Sam darnold. Did you say Sam darnold would've sorry? Josh Rosen would've graded out as the best quarterback in this draft to me Dwayne Haskins looks like a better prospect than Josh Rosen or even probably Sam darnold does not as mobile as Sam darnold. How what do you think of where does Haskins rate and all this? Why wouldn't you give him a great underwear? Josh Rosen was less. Year. Well, they were better quarterbacks coming out. I think that those guys were elite we had talked to years ago about those guys even before they were in the draft that they would have come out earlier. They would have been highly. They were they were considered special. And they said back in August prior to those kids coming out last year that in August that it wouldn't set up well for those and they were Josh Allen, Los everything around them. Sam darnold loss a lot around him. And Josh Rosen was that UCLA where they didn't have a ton of talent. So it wasn't set up for those guys to live up to all the hype in terms of the numbers and the way they were expected to take over and dominate gains and be spectacular. So people were kind of wondering over radium. No, you weren't there. Great quarterbacks. And I thought the people in the league is that these guys this year be thankful if you're those teams you got those quarterbacks they're better and every team in the first round from Lamar Jackson won the Baker and everybody in between those guys are thrilled to have. And they don't have to worry about this Dwayne Haskins a one year starter. That's it. And he had a little trouble struggles rowing the Penn State game. But I like the fact he got better. He learned a seems like he's going to be all in to be a quarterback. He loves the challenge and the pressure that comes from being a quarterback. But so criticism of him to say those guys better those guys were considered super elite and special entities for a two year period. So that's not a critique Dwayne Haskins or or taking a shot. Joe Dwayne Haskins on that's a fair thing to say those three. And then you throw Baker Mayfield John Dorsey number one. Look what happened. He emailed that pick. They can own that division for the next ten years because of this draft and because of getting Baker Mayfield Bubills love Josh ninety five and five they weren't a games. He started to finish. You can Nate Sam darnold. Look what he did in the last month of the season. Look around more Jackson games. He wants those teams guys are thrilled that they know they got the right quarterback for a long long time. And hopefully for Baltimore. Lamar Jackson the passing has improved. But from from winning, and the attitude they're all in on the March access by those teams are really happy where they are right now quarterback
