"Since it was founded in nineteen fifty two the lebanon daily star has survived decades of war and disaster. It was one of the first and longest operating english language papers in the region but in recent years as lebanon's financial crisis deepened. It had been hanging by a thread going from print to digital only last year on sunday. Staff at the paper were informed that the daily star is shutting down associate editor. Hannah and bar started at the daily star in nineteen sixty five we reached him in beirut hannah after all these years for you getting this daily paper together what have the past couple of days. Been like for you sir comes. It is I was attached to the paper for more than fifty years. And that's a very long time to get attached to anybody or any The whole situation is not promising in the country you know. Under other circumstances when the country was flourishing. It wouldn't have been a problem because it would be both overnight and it will be is directed but with the situation. Now i think you know it might die. And that's what makes me said also because because you know to produce a paper you need more than Opposites on computers and desks. You need good people and lost the people who have been with us for twenty or twenty five years. You cannot train in your reporters to become experienced and seasons in You know overnight so that is a big problem if anybody wants to buy the papers. Just to put some perspective for those who don't know the daily star and for foreign journalists this has been a crucial source of information about lebanon for the world. Can you give us a sense of what you think has been lost with the shutting down of this paper thus averted good question will the daily star started the nineteen fifty two in fact fill the gap for news coming out from this part of the world in english or directed addressed so that was basically the reason. Why did they decided started. You know and and that time the whole area the whole region wasn't turmoil. There were the thought in in egypt the toppled the king and fifty six was. The suicide cannot ward under fifty eight. We had another war in lebanon and then and then the sixties that they were across across the areas and then our civil war so the daily star. We tried to go the extra mile every day. So we're proud of that. This is why. I say we feed sorry it not only for us but we feed saudi that the daily star and the impact it had on the area on on so many people university students from all over the world came to the daily star and we had interns from about twenty five countries over twenty years and we graduated four hundred and seventy students interns who became journalists. Some of them have become top positions. All over the world. that's something they're proud of. And that's what we are. Sorry for in this part of the world. It was one of the very modestly shining stars. And and and this is and you're not the only publication is going out of business this this crisis that has that lebanon is faced with the world bank describes it does perhaps the largest one in the world in a at least a century and so it's it's very hard for people in lebanon to get their news at this point. So what do you think. We're gonna lebanese. Find out what's going on and they they've turned to their media and now it's shutting down right to have a reliable source of news in lebanon other in print or online doesn't exist at the moment. This is very very important question. We don't know the answer to that. I mean today. I had dozens of phone calls especially from news agencies from embassies from international agencies like a squad. ndp united nations. They all to exactly what you really don't know to be honest. The data star is not functional anymore. We haven't had time to think what the rest of the world is going to do. But we know that the daily star It suspended publication during the civil war twice actually and then relaunched. So is it possible that the paper will come back. Is it really true that this is the end of the daily star. I'm really sorry about not being very optimistic about that. You see the country when it came back. The country was different country. You're living in a country where the currency has lost ninety percent of its value. You'll county where people don't want to come back. People just want to leave. Before an attraction for young journeys interns whoever from all over the world they came to lebanon. It was lovely. It's lovely weather mice. Beer cheap cigarettes. It's you know. It's warm warm society. Unfortunately these things that attracted these people don't really exist at the moment but the country is going through a very very Tough economic conditions. That is a big problem with electricity with water with petrol. So when you say don't i think it will republish. Of course. I hope so from all my but i'm realistic person mehanna. I do hope the paper comes back. It's been an important source for so many people and I appreciate you talking to us about it today. Thank you very much. Sorry i have been not very careful. But i wish you luck you take thank you. You too bye-bye hanna. Hanna and bar was the associate editor of the lebanon daily star. We reached him in beirut..

He found that is. That's a good thing about. It is that he recognizes. How funny he is when we were making. We're making sport of in that way. I know it's funny. It was terrible but it was fun. Yeah he was legitimately terrified. I would be for sure. I think we should next year. We should do alexis in on house. But i don't think. I can handle it very diaper if i go. And there's a long section of this haunted house it was in the mall. They opened up this empty store space in the mall. "A newly released document obtained by los angeles times on sunday. Night supposed to say that the weapon had been described to him as a code gun. Meaning it did not have any live rounds but the gun discharged striking hutchinson a chest and suaza the right shoulder according to santa fe county. Sheriff's detective affidavit affidavit used to obtain such weren't hutches with pronounced dead at arabic hospital so struck in the chest maybe what strike for heart lungs or whatever it went she she basically got hit in the one place in the body that could result in you dying straightway from a single bullet wound. Because you know that's usually the place people tell you to aim if you want to you know If you want to stop somebody. Right center of mass. And that's what she got hit. She got hit in the shoulder like the director in the leg. Maybe that missile artery something. She would probably be delighted this day. So that's the tragic part of it right. Such tragedy swabs us statement so detective offered a new window into unser shooting. And i say that. Let's hollywood reeling and calling for safe working conditions on the set. The shooting took place after six members of the film crew walked after complaining of the production company about the payment and housing camera to read. Russell told detective joe kind of carl. Sorry russell's a statement to detective offered the chronology yet of how the tragedy voters stuff happening before and the day. The day started late because the production had hired a replacement camera crew and the were was working with only one cameras wasn't so detective and aside from the baldwin sources. I could understand why somebody doesn't do a last minute. Check before they hand it to the person on the set just to make sure similar to what they do when they take when spe shows going offline they just go through stuff last minute just to make sure i know we'll go for the protocol beforehand. "Dad is very loving and supportive in very much about trying to lift up the family and our. Benny is very much like that. In early. On one of the things i loved. Jason said were crafting. This character is he was like you know. Clara mehanna are doctors in. They take care of everybody. But benny takes care of them and he has an important role because he supports in the amazing work baidu. And it's like a very sort of selfless view as opposed to. This is what i'm doing. And i'm the one it's it's very supportive. And when jason speaks about it he means it in such a sweet way in so we brought a lot of that to the character in. My dad has a lot of that sort of natural lake. Loving supportive you know. Everybody's doing their best. You know in like super chill like you can't get my dad like he doesn't get upset like doesn't worry you know he's gonna be all right. What can you do own a lot of that. Is him in. Jason just took it and ran. I wanna ask about another mill character Because he's actually the one who i personally had the most Connection with them and that's the younger brother character played by west yen Because on this island full of apparently super hot guys. You've got this younger brother. Who is like really trying to fit in and grow up and you know meet that bar and i i look at that kid and i'm like that kid was me. I still as me i. And he's such a fine and he's he's like funny and and just you know really hits that note so well what was was again. You know the idea of having the two brothers. Prime maps out to your brothers courtney. But i feel like his character really balances out in some ways Payton you're i mean you know duties character or lara's characters You know just because you have somebody who's you know..

"So let's talk through some of the thinkers who have inspired and then your teachers in this project and Montana is a prime example. Michelle montaigne the mitts and sixteenth century. french aristocrat philosopher. You've heard of him for him. There was nothing more joyful lively and playful. I would almost say more sexy than philosophy but but really he was about. He just indulged in the project. He called myself with a capital m. That's right right. I think this whole exploration begins for me as a writer having studied buddhist philosophy and having recognized that particularly in mehanna buddhism. They make a very clear distinction between the project of wisdom which is understood to be something one does really for one oneself in a way as opposed to the practice compassion which is very much an outward expression of that wisdom and their definition of a buddha or an awake being is one in whom these two dimensions of being of been realized and are no longer in a sense in opposition to each other but have become integrated in a figure of wholeness in which in witness and out witness just part and parcel of your experience of being fully human. Yeah there's a paradox. At the heart of this solitude of the closer you move into it right that i mean here's one way you wrote about it. Solitude is not to be found in a forest it's not to be found in a deep state of formless. Meditation is to be found by learning to dwell in your body and your senses but really it also while on the surface it it. It's something that takes us away from others or meets the fact that we are inherently away from others it takes us back outward as well eventually right it exactly. That is the paradox of solitude didn't want is a deep paradoxes of our humanity is that we're in each moment when i'm speaking to you now for example There's a part of that in which i'm aware of my own. Inner feelings and maybe anxieties and another part of it which is only possible. Because i'm engaged in a conversation with another person and you can never step out of all of that. Even the the hermit living in the middle of nowhere is still acutely aware that he or she is a social being they the very language the forms in our solitary mind is not ours. It's the language of our community of our of our culture. The the terms within which we think those of all religion or philosophy in other words you cannot escape yourself is impossible you.

"Because that's the way the world actually is. It really is big and uncertain in terms of concepts. So that's one point. Another point is to terms that bachelor uses and they're very artful Translations he translates the word particular summit potter which means you know codependent arising causality as contingency which is really good because the contingency of things the fact that everything is held up by a multiplicity of causes and conditions one of which any moments where they're all shifting you know constantly so everything is very shifty shaky oh world is constantly in motion. Nothing is solid separate or apart. Everything is very hard to pin down very hard to hold down very shaky very hard to control of very hard to figure out which is of course a disaster. If you depending on things being fixed and figure out of and delightful. If you're not so again how do we move from one position to the other. World only seem shaky from the standpoint of needing to be fixed from the standpoint of being energized by happy with an excited by the flow of the world and the very contingency of the world. This is not a problem in this contingency is what emptiness is and to be comfortable with an in harmony with it. That's our practice and that the practice of appreciating emptiness so that's contingency uses the word fixation to translate the word propaganda which means the opposite our desire to fix things almost the way the works the mind wants to say this is this and that is that and this is always this and that is always that are desired. It's very good to fixate things to freeze things freeze frame. fix things. Make a hard and fast world that inevitably disappoints us because in fact nothing really is hard fast so naturally we can't get it all straightened out in those sooner. Do we get it all straightened out. Then it shift in disappoints us everybody. Everything including our own mind and body is contingent. It's not can't be fixed and when we depend on it's being fixed. We are really disappointed. And it can be sort of fundamentally upsetting to to to realize then his use of the word sublime is kind of genius sublime he goes to the poetic tradition or this concept of the sublime and it's a concept that's kind of not in use so much now but it's interesting because sublime is the experience of recognizing the awesome this in the wonder in the beauty of the contingent nature of things when all of a sudden all the props the whole up in the conventional world are knocked away. This is a experience so it's not in other words. It's not just the pleasant the sublime it connotes not only not just a pleasant experience a happy experience but also one full of awe. Almost to the point of fear really wakes us up. The line is is a is an experience of really being waked up to the starkness. And the majesty really of things as they really are both in the world outside of us and also in our inner world so the first sort of introductory verse. He translates bachelor translates. This way this is. This is a verse that is a little epigraph to the series of poems. It's a short poem a dedication by nagarjuna to the buddha and he says i bow to buddha's who teach contingency no death no birth. No nothing no. Eternity noah arrival departure. No identity no difference and ease fixations bow to the buddhist who teach contingency in ease fixations. Third point. i wanna make is just to Wave a little bit for a moment. Just a moment in the direction of compassion. This whole situation of the radical contingency of everything means that you and are contingent upon each other. That's really true. There's no me without you and there's no you without me. I mean even the very words you and me you know can't exist without each other right and also it's interesting the way they shift. If i point to mandate say you. I mean van advantage and point to me and say you and then you means me so the words you and i me and we all depend on each other and so that's very accurate because we we literally for me to be knee really depends on the people in my life and all the things in my life and the same is true for you as well. That's the meaning and the essence of contingency. I depend on you. You depend on me. We all depend on everything in this world. You don't have to think about that for very long to recognize that the end result of that if you really kinda got that if you had a sublime experience of the reality of that the obvious conclusion obvious feeling that would well up. Inside of you would be compassion. Not poor you over there of sad that you have trouble but we're in this together your troubles mytravel might troubles your trouble. It can't be otherwise. This is kind of compassion beyond compassion. So although nagarjuna doesn't speak so much about compassion directly in this text the entire structure of compassion in mehanna buddhism. Which as you all know is essential for the whole idea of my is based on.

It wasn't even it's beyond adrenaline. I don't know how to explain it. And i remember when not wore off Will last forever. And it's just funny. It's like years later actors so much. Calmer onstage And probably less nervous than i have been which i think is cool. Maybe i'm becoming more confident or more able to go with the flow. I used to be very like have to have the set down after everything. Perfect like judging every single thing is there's a little bit of first of all less of the weight is on you because you're not the front person and then secondly there's a little bit there's a degree to which you just have to let go because all those guys have so decades and decades more experience collectively than i do and they might change their and they're gonna coal mehanna take me along for the ride and i just feel lucky that they kind of take care means under their wings so It's actually a really cool experience. "Do you mean that makes sense. It's oh oh crap it's it's three in the morning. This is why it's making sense. I get it now. Yeah when when you think that are a potential free agent might not work with you but then a duo who you see as a duo who you would assume what pick each other would work with you for your benefit and not each other's benefit it's gone off the rails a little bit but no taryn when you know it's all gone wrong. Is that kylie tried. The stuff earlier didn't work didn't stick and now suddenly thailand is e sarabeth whisper and literally piss you off and everything he saying is starting to shape it up starting to shape the week up No one thought you know sarabeth even declared i want this to be my h. It started to become cons. H once it hit two. Am yes and so he. He She she didn't suggest okay. So if we're gonna target derek. Than what if i do Hannah and big d is nomination. He's like no no because then hannah will pick their or the veto. You don't want that. Oh yeah okay. And he goes. He'd he goes on to say well look. I think that claire is the fastest person to put. Both of us up on the block or one of us goes on what why. Why don't you just. Because she was trying to flip the vote last week against me. Don't you understand that. I i one veto. And i used it on her and she still didn't wanna be with me afterward she still didn't wanna be on my side after all of that. Can you understand how how upsetting. That is that after everything i did for her last week. She still didn't trust me. Wanted to flip the vote. You know why she wanted to keep brittany in the game because britney was saying she would come after us. Everybody knows that Brittany was saying that she would nominate you and me together. That's why she wanted brittany to today. We cannot trust claire. sir. Says i don't know i just feel like if that were true if claire said those things or if she was using those motivations somebody would have ratted or out. Now i mean elissa was in that trying to throw the target on anybody but herself. Why wouldn't she have used that information and collins essentially essentially a 'cause she's not worth it. Nobody cares about claire. Nobody wants to point to point anywhere to declare they. Everybody knows that they just didn't care. Say it and she's like okay So we can't trust no. We cannot trust player cannot trust her at all like okay. But but but tiffany. Hannah basically volunteered to go up on the block Yeah but we can't layer. You have to understand like okay. So okay i just came up with an idea i just came up with an idea. How do you. How do you feel about this idea that i just came up. With what if. I nominated blair. I think you just cracked it. Sarabeth great job. You've done an amazing. This is a great idea. he inception ter- vocally. It wasn't subtle at all. very transparent. what he was doing. His arguments were very shallow at best eight full-on inception her and she's a look me. Him marines look at me driving the bus killing. Yeah i think the one thing he did well in putting the distinction between derek x unclear. Potentially talking about flipping vote is that he said derek x only said it from a perspective of i will not be saved next to big deal. I'll i'll lose whereas claire was defying the wishes of kylie and her savior the man who put the veto around her neck. And you can't be doing the things you just can't be doing them things. So the thought process here is that if player goes up on the block next to big z. "Year. Go on living in this point. Live without drugs working on that. Yeah and i just man i. I read a lot of Self-development books really. This is before it was cool. My all my friends that i was like fucking. I made some other friends after that. They're like tony robbins. Book managed to change my life. Be like what's that that's weird and then You know fast now. Everybody's was like dude. If you don't know who tony robbins is your fucking idiot. But like yeah. I would read those books on my own to go to the bookstores. We don't psychology to just like all. I had was his crazy thoughts so i was basically trying to like self Like what therapies there. Whatever the is that we know what i mean then You know that actually led me to having great understanding of myself. You know what is on you know what's great about that man is you were self medicating with drugs right and you took that same mentality but you applied something that would work which was just therapy self help and motivation and that became the new addiction as opposed to something that was killing you. Yes because i do have a very addictive personality. Whether games i have working out some have to do something. You'll crazy okasan and i think about all the time so that did you know that even prepared me for today and doing stand because i started a little later like twenty nine but helped me get past All all that self-doubt all that like. Why am i doing this morning. It's all your fault or that's what they don't like you. That's what laughing you know you. Just get past past at as you can understand what's more human nature and you know just outside of yourself and all that loneliness prepared you for stand up comedy mike. Do we all got together and in a part of me was like i if i depend on that. It's gonna make me weak. So i decided to just in the in the first year. At least i my i. I'm going to hit as many as i can on my own and fuel this loneliness and because i know it's going to make me stronger because every time i felt all this emotional pain alone and i just like sat in it and is in an not even just sat on it but like ran into the wave constantly. It made me way stronger and You know. I am actually grateful for those moments michael with you when you when you said. You're not up there are you. You didn't have a bunch of friends in their church. No no friends in the church at that point. I was playing in rock bands live in boston. I was the last holdout that had any religious feelings whatsoever at any of you ever like debate with an atheist or non believer as a christian now left to early on a couple. Early life really. I had a couple where i was pushing back on people as a christian and and they were nonbelievers and i looked at them differently. The forgetting his name. Listen that's crazy. I don't wanna admit that. He was the lead singer of deadpool deadpool drowning pool and i know you're talking about he died. He died on nine. We were friends. I we were. We were both in bands in in dallas and they were blowing up and we were starting to grow. We were like their feature act a little bit and they were headlining shows and We got into a conversation at a bar one night and he was just like brothers. No godman there's no way there's a god and i was like i use the respect you man and like i was still i had one foot in and i was had my own doubts and i was probably agreeing with him on a lot of what he was saying. I hadn't used the word atheist yet. But i was like still judge in the hell out of him for just openly brothers. No god i was just shocked by it so we started. Get into a debate. And really i looking back on it. He was saying all the shit. I was already thinking. I just didn't like it made me uncomfortable. In all of my insults to him it was just projection. You know we need to not given harder right now. Of course. I do remember when i was like fourteen years old a kid. I was playing basketball. With said. I don't believe in god that's bullshit and it. Hurt me physically. I felt the pain in my heart. I was like whoa. What like family was. Everything was religion we prayed before meals. I mean we were cath- oh lick of people like Like culturally catholic. Do you know what i'm talking about. You have any of that type of thing where you don't believe that is the thing though. My one of my sisters is culture catholics. She told me she She said and i don't believe in. God i blame you. She goes great now. Now there's nothing to live for everything there's nothing to die for yeah but Yeah so she still goes to tricia pie. I thought you said he didn't believe but she still goes all the time. I've been to church as like a very awake atheist. Who studied religion now and the catholic. I've just sitting there going. This is fucked up. The catholic church is the entire masses. Done i used to say to people like just for context. Be like what. I was board. A high priest said magic words over me on an altar right and they're like what the fuck religion realize a catholic but it's true the whole mass is done under a graphic representation of a human sacrifice humid nailed to a cross above them with the need to sit there. Like it's normal when you remove yourself from all can be objective about it. It's fucking gnarliest health but like catholic even amongst like christians because one of those ex-girlfriends about they were catholic. And i went to midnight. Mass with hired never been a catholic church before that was very familiar with like christian ship. But i was like what the fuck i because it's a whole 'nother level. I like we eat. Ritual wrap blood although like sort of like the nailing and the phrases the chant. Do the chance man when you when you go back and seeing it on. Tv or on youtube. It's one thing when you were in the room as a full-on atheist and you hear four hundred people chant. The same neck lucca high mehanna it since chills that much but it seems so creepy for some reason when the nuns are doing it together. And it's all these female voices it is like right. I don't know it's it's not just like scary scary movie. Shit it's like. It's like heartbreaking as a human that people are just willingly being sheep and a proud of having a shepherd to. It's just it's heartbreaking. it's scary. It's weird that the chant that has scariest is. I can't remember the name of it now. And the catholic church though is in english and its way scarier than any of the latin stuff. And it's the It's the profession of faith. Which is we believe. Everyone does it in unison. And now this shit gets orwellian. We believe in one. God the father the obama. What's it called. we we all believe what. What's it called. Paul's going to look it up for it. I believe it's called the profession of faith. But i could be wrong. But it's we believe in one god the father almighty the creator of heaven earth creator of all things seen and unseen. He's he's a creator of everything you see and the imaginary shit we're telling you on you. Effective yeah i want to hear audio of people saying it together. Because they'd have nightmares tonight. You know what. I was thinking. The whole time. Mueller explaining the webbing setup reminds me of like a demon bingham like race from the from. How you have a debbie. Read that we sick now. We have cell phones. It happened if you get a gay catholic recap story a think he's got right here. Let's see if it's one person or a bunch. Oh shit oh catholic hip hop you know what i catholic. "Basically down in london and they get wind that they little independent guys as applying they They're not to miss with cadavers. And so they they literally go into then into the dissecting rooms and coat and maim the cadaver so they useless for home the lectures so the lecturers are. They're not missed. Have no other choice but to go back to the crouch at the to the and say okay. We'll do it. We need to knock it out. Yeah so it was very lucrative but a lot of them. didn't didn't really save them. Innate there was very you know. I've got it will spend it in right. There's a few few of them in the crouch gang that did save them money. One of the went onto by hotel. Margate which is down by the coast for us to light seaside holiday town and he He was found out was to way proceeds of his of his proceeds k. From from One of them. I think gave six or seven thousand pounds left. Ms was family so you know some some of them did save it but the majority blow it as payment to the hands that went for more alcohol and you know but like like birkenhead. We talked about earlier before we started about the birkin half l. y. You know and how true to character. It was the gone reveling. And saying you know we've got we've got drink. Drink money off we go. Let's treat everybody will go out and make some more tomorrow. I mean so it's very lucrative very lucrative right. Yeah just don't have to have like no morals for that job exactly exactly absolutely so my question is you hear. I hear so much more about the grace. Snatchers grave robbers and stuff. What about the surgeons do here. I mean you mentioned some but do we know more about the surgeons that requested or bot these cadavers. And so i'm looking at from from the buddy snatches side I haven't been into the medico just because there's so much theresa haven't made into the medical from the the medical side but we do know of of some Certainly the hunter the so william hunter and his brother john they were big Cetinje johnsboro used to go out snatching for his for the william for his anatomy lectures. If he to the irish giant child's bed. It just register thing about him that you liked he hit. That's in the in the. When was the knifeman again. And he was a very famous snatching here And because he was so tall. I think he was seven seven six. I think of the top mehanna cow even told by today's standards exactly and so then you. They really wanted his catava to find out you know. Why is he grown so toll basically and he knew that the anonymous would have been after his his body and he asked his friends. Can you can you bear me. In a lead coffin. Far out to sea place round. Mock funeral was taken and nobody in the coffin as it was being pushed up at side of the boat into the say. 'cause william hunter had paid five hundred pounds which exorbitant amount of money by then to to secure the body of charles spread so we know about famous notching. Asti kupa and this. Quite lot of the london An atmosphere that we know about purely because they in eighteen twenty eight. We have an select committee on anatomy. Happen to look at after hair to look at. How come waste supply cadavers legally to the profession to stop bodysnatching again. That's free online. Remind me and i'll send you a link. "Cinderella Mehanna and. That's the first time I've ever seen one of those old and up on hold it up. Wow I mean okay. It's superficial call. That's exactly what it is. So what do you think is the inspiration for a level of discipline though For myself personally I can only speak to myself exactly You know I think part of it is for me trying trying to beat what I look like out of pass competition trying to do better to have a little more muscle come in leaner. That was always my issue. Not Coming in lean enough. Because I'm a big sugar person. I always since I was a kid. Don't you want to corner store okay? And they never said no pretty much. So I'm kind of surprised I don't have type two diabetes but that's another story don't but anyway so yeah. I think it's just the discipline and like because you know growing up. I was never really told no when it came to food like. Yeah you can eat that you know because my mom always did healthy home-cooked Lebanese food. So which is very healthy so we rarely had fast food or anything so balanced ice to walk to and from school and all that stuff so balanced it out right but and then having to do competition diet which can be really restrictive especially towards like the last eight weeks or so weeks. Well my no like most people I would die it like twelve to sixteen weeks out. Holy Smokes Lov is pushing it sixteen weeks out so most people will do. If I were to compete again I would definitely do a longer slower. Diet maybe twenty weeks so you kind of start dialing little Babylon body last week. Is the last week really crazy? It can be like. If you're doing like bodybuilding. They do that water and sodium manipulation and all that now. I did that in the past like a long time ago but in two thousand sixteen. I didn't I didn't do anything different from my last week. I had. I had done that in the past. And and it didn't work out once and I remember and it was really weird so like three days before my show. Yeah yeah it was awful so I look good the week before. I looked like how want look on stage. So why am I gonNa mess with that because your body can do something weird if it's thrown off off what it's you know it's courses past like two three months now you're doing something different and might react differently especially with women are hormones and stuff right and stress stress. Stress is a big thing for me as well and my husband noticed. When I'm not stressed my body. My Body reacts better to what I'm doing so I just left it the same rate and like I said I placed the best I ever did. So what is kind of? Is this scholas- sequence for the whole show? Yeah so usually they would have Prejudging in in the morning. We'll take a couple hours. Depending how many athletes and they would just judge by categories so categories would be depending. They might not have certain categories. The athletes aren't applying so mens bodybuilding which will go by weights women's bodybuilding. These days. The numbers are so low. They just have an open category so they might have if they're lucky. Two or three competitors competing open bodybuilding so all weights together and then they would have women's Zeke men's Zeke men's classic Physique Women's figure women's Bikini Women's fitness men's fitness is offered but usually people don't apply for that so and then there's usually like teenage categories. Like if you're a teen you can enter in that class and then a master's or grandmasters depending on your age. Thirty five plus forty five plus depending. Yeah so yeah. So the prejudging. Basically the athletes will come out in their class and then The judges will usually there's a hedge and they will call out The athletes to do their mandatory poses so bikini would just be front and back and then once they're all done the hedge will call out the top five or top six depending how many people are in the class and usually by five so it's first top five we'll we'll judge them and then they go off and then next top you know so judging six to ten and then until all the athletes are judged and and then the numbers are tallied by the software system whatever and in the evening is just the finals. The athletes come on do their personal presentation and You know usually an evening. That's when the family and friends will come to watch. Some will come in the daytime as well but it can be longer. Well actually no nighttime shows longer because of the routines and stuff but it's more tactical in the morning with the judging so and I judged as well so in the evening were just judging basically for overall so which is so say. There's three high classes for. There's more than that usually but let's just say there's five high classes for Bikini and the first first competitor. The winner from each high class at the end will come back on stage. So we're judging all the different high classes now for Bikini to pick the best of the overall winners so yeah and That would be the process. There's intermission in the middle and usually sponsors setup outside selling their stuff and and Photographer usually is. They're taking stage professional stage shots and backstage shots for the athletes if they want to purchase that and and it's pretty good so and tanners are onsite usually. Oh Yeah Yeah the spray Tan interesting. 'cause you're naked their food tents we think this thing seems like it goes all your fits doing well so like some. I mean some girls might have two different bikinis if they're doing two different classes like a high class and maybe an age category. They WANNA look different for the photos. Some won't so yeah. You're just doing in the daytime and then you'll have a few hours between the morning and night show and then you come back in the same outfit. I would just ca just kept mine on all day because the Tan and then you really careful when you're using the washroom live of discipline that goes into what you'd is amazing and I'm wondering like for my last question. What advice would you give someone that wants to maintain that level of discipline for whatever might be passionate about? I would say it can be hard to keep the focus and the discipline You know I would say just try to do research and as much as you can about what it is that you're passionate about so you. The I found the more I knew about something. More control ahead over it. In a sense you know and then you can only take small steps really end. Goal can be very daunting and seem so far away and like can't be realized that if you take small steps and just hold yourself accountable and check things off. You know that's all you can really do. We can't really we all have. It's new human nature to beat ourselves up over it right so but and find good support. I think it's very important. I didn't even think noticed especially in competing. I've seen people like it it it. It's very hard you know so especially if you have one partner that competes and the other one never has and doesn't really hasn't gone through it so my husband he had gone through it before and then when I started and then he stopped. He knew you know so. He's and he's very patient. So he's he's like the opposite of me rates for someone like me when. I'm dieting down and even crankier really short tempered so let's roll off his back. He knows it's not him. You know he just let it go. He knows to let certain things go right. Which is great so these are great support so yeah and just You know try to keep keep your focus and just if something really passionate about. You're going to do it regardless. Just try not to beat yourself up over it if you don't get what you thought you were going to get like for competitors if they put their heart and soul into they followed everything their their coach told them their diet their training and then make their really want first place but the Mike at Second or third and seven third is really good. But I've seen people come in second or third and then they just they're just crushed. You know You don't want that funny story. Yeah I got I at the two thousand sixteen provincials here I got first place and then it got snatched away from me why it was okay. This lie it's a funny story. This is what happened so it was during the evening presentation. And the you know the top three were announced and it was in my open class. So which was just a height based categories up to five six anyway and they announced third place. That was that was the class. I wasn't sure how I placed. There were six of us because I was the most muscular one there and I was thinking I might be in the middle like might get third or might not get anything is one of those things. That's what I thought. They call third place. It wasn't my name they called second-place wasn't my name is saying. Oh I must have gotten fourth called first place. It was my name. I was like what that's awesome. I've never gotten first place in my in my head because I judged already in my head I was like I don't think I'm I based on stage at the girls. Look different than if I'm sitting for my judges seat. Still you've got a good sense. I was like and then I looked down at the panel of judges and a couple of them were like. That's not a good sign on then. I was like a season. Competitor competed several years already. So but I was just imagine. Had that been my first or second show I would have been like. Oh my God like what like I don't know why the having that reaction so when especially when I saw that I knew and I went backstage and then the president came came by the Association and she knocked on the door. Cinderella's Oh you're in here I said Yeah and she didn't say anything she was like I need to talk to you and I looked. Oh you want trophy back don't you? Oh I'm sorry that's okay I said if I don't if if it was a missile was like nothing. It was just like an error in the stats. Ya and the way the papers were sorted. It goes right back right because I I mean I'm thinking of it from an Athlete's point of view. I'm like I don't want it if I don't deserve it. And then and then I was thinking and then my husband came backstage to because he was one of the judges or stats guy or whatever at the time and I I said to him I was like. Oh thanks a lot. You give your wife first place when you take it away. He's like I'm so he looks like but I was fine with it right and I said just tell me how I did. Because they made the girls go back on stage and redistribute the trophies. Just telling me before I go so I know in case I don't get a placing.
