"So i can't wait to out what it's about. No that's awesome. I love it. Hey i mean you didn't have to know anything so just sending the pages you know. I i don't need your fun. And the cast incredible and the story from what i can gather. It actually is really good. It's it's about finding your beauty in the created you to be as opposed to know outward appearances in such so i do know that much And i i know it's going to be incredible that the talent on it is astronomical another one is called still pitching and that one is based on the true life story of Pitcher baseball pitcher rick fisher and he had some bins and so that kind of just goes to show like the lord's work in his life Wind when god stepped in he stepped big. So that's very exciting Really fine. I met incredible guy on that. Who plays ricky fisher. Who's just incredibly talented actors. Names jason frederick. If you don't know who he is you should look them up because he's super super talented and he is like killing it right now and another one is running the basis and that one. I'm not terminal b outfits. Bob is baseball movies baseball even once on about baseball soccer. Some baseball in problem. But you wouldn't rather scripts so. I don't know what i'm going to go with no leaving. We'll find out together. Maybe we should do a live cast. Should we should do a live. Cast watch or watch party or something. That'd be perfect there. H turns out. There wasn't baseball. Sorry but yeah. And then in november. I had you mississippi to work on a movie titled mind reader and that rich. Christiano is directing that. And so that'll be a lot of fun to do. And i'm not until you anything about that one. But but it'll be great. And at and then i do show called mega rambles with other people. Kinda like this. Where i just talked about if it's thirty minutes so it's short and sweet to the point. We have fun. we play game. We talked about projects so a handful of stuff have gone. Oh if you are an actor and you want to follow me on instagram facebook but I post daily acting tips and just may be frustrating things about being in this business so quick little instagram reels about those things so often. "I series was It was like he haw okay. Very cool now. I'm role. yeah it's definitely a variety type and it was really fun to do but it was something to that. I was like okay. I've i've kind of you just kind of feel like you're recycling the same things over and over and it just kind of got boring. Think like that sounds awful. Doesn't i probably. It's it was great at the time and it was super fun but it was like okay. This is run. It's course that. I'm ready for this season to be over. So do you think it was that the that you felt god clearly calling you to do stuff in the faith space that made that or was it. Was it just the material. Yeah i at the time. I was running the children's ministry at mitch perch So for me content was really really important. I mean this show was it's family entertainment but it was you know. I've gotten some scripts and i'm like three pages. And i'm like no you know like yes so to me. Content has always been really really important. Because your kids will google you and their friends will google you and your what are they gonna find right and my kids a church. I you know my i. I didn't ever want to be a part of something that i wouldn't be okay with watching now. That does that mean. Obviously a five year isn't gonna watch all your. It's not doesn't mean you have to do everything appropriate for all ages but it should be reflecting something that you can sit and with them at the appropriate age and go see. That's fine it's good. It's not done. I think that brings up a really interesting point that a lotta christian creative struggle with maybe not as much in the secular space obviously but trying to find that balance right as a believer to work on projects and to work on products that are in some way glorify god. Sometimes it's a really tough decision to make you know because you're looking at that possible paycheck at the end of that project going. I really need that to pay the mortgage but does this really glorify king. So can you talk a little bit. About how megi handles that problem is there. Is there criteria that you use to.

"He doesn't play next year i don't think he'll well even playing next year i don't know he'll get i don't know if you'll reach it because he's not a guy who strikes. I was actually surprised that he was this high on the list. And i think there's longevity there was talk about. He's the guy just doesn't strike out the fact that he's that high the next guideline is chris davis he's retired and we all know what happened thereafter. Whatever but but then you got joey votto so then you go down to fifteen thousand fifteen hundred joy bottle one thousand four hundred sixty one. Another guy you don't think strikes out often. Nope i don't even know man it's crazy. It is crazy so thinking about this for back. Let me say this. Let me say this. It's evidence of how the culture has shifted right. Because we're like. I don't even notice. That's huge that's indicative of a lot of culture change Just saying it is But so keep track. Miguel cabrera i think is really to watch just enough. I couldn't tell you who he plays for him. I think he's applying for the the angels right. Just nothing i think so. I don't even know i'm behind. That's the thing is i know. One of the upton is playing. the angel. Couldn't tell you which one he played for the oakland at one point. I don't remember seeing this guy on. He's guys okay the but these guys like this probably move around a lot of teams. Unless they're lifers like megi. No upton his only played for five teams and he's and he had a cup of coffee in san diego. He played for detroit for a couple years land for a couple of years. But he's been in arizona and and anaheim guy or most of his career so interesting. 'cause i would imagine these guys get shuffled a lot but apparently not. That's interesting and it's like you said it's a longevity thing that some of these guys 'cause the thing by just not he's a great leadoff hitter is a very leadoff hitter for the angels. I think the problem he has is staying on the field and the reason. I didn't know if you put the or not..

I want to be sure that we discussed both of these realities so first. Let's address the headlines. Last spring university of michigan received significant coverage for a series of very anti israel statements from the student government and other bodies on the heels of israeli palestinian violence in may as well as physical act of semitism against hillel and as michigan. current sued. ed's at alum no but lovely the rock. This was accompanied by a weaker than hoped for response from the administration which left jewish and pro. israel students feeling unheard invulnerable.

"Knee brings a lot of athleticism in defense and speed talk about the shortstop. And what. I'm talking about a bronx tale me. He's from the bronx been in the minor leagues for while sleeping in his family's bed. You know what. His whole. In the bronx maine and his first home. Run at yankee stadium. And he's made some plays. I mean what a great little story that is for sure know. He's he spent some time in the major leagues. Or i've been on the orioles and the raise so it was kind of like a quadruple aids. Twenty seven years old and the yankees signed him over the off season. Minor league contract only got his shot. Went torres got hurt. And he certainly for relational guy just a high energy guy and when others labor tour with a few all star team already You know labor is on a natural. I guess natural shortstop at one way but it certainly doesn't look like a shortstop math. Most athletic guy or andrew. Alaska is more of an athletic guy strong defensive shortstop Great play to save a game. It's the red sox. An runs the basis. Really well so you just brought a different element to the team. Our guest is new york. Post baseball columnists. Ken david off. Ken also j. Carlos stanton has been big for the yankees. How much has put them back in. The outfit will help just to get him. Not just being eight for playing everyday or am i making too much of that. No contrary them all fair. I don't think you're making enough of it. six. I think it's been a huge and to their credit I had my doubts guy. Who's gotten susan so injured the last year. Why why increase the risk and. Send him out there. But he's seen appears to be in far better condition the last of years and it's been a dual benefit rob because he says himself stanton at he's hitting better because he likes playing the field at the thing about hitting all the time and then my playing them in the field. They open up a d. h. spots for luke void who's been superb. He was just american league player of the week losses. First base job anthony. Okay ken last thing can the yankees good to the world series from the american league and i say that because you know over the last few years they've been close and they just can't seem to get over to harm but the one team that to me that's really in the way is a chicago white sox and basically own them. I think they've only lost one time to white sox is that their nemesis or is still tampa bay. It's still tampa bay rob eliminated from the playoffs last year. Trying to get its second. Straight ale east tidal at a vastly smaller payroll than the yankees. Really kind of showing up the yankees. It away right and you know the rays of largely had the yankees number really since the start of last year. So yeah i i've in raise the nemesis are going to try to overcome do it of course in better shape but to do it as well. The space on the way they played recently. All right here it is meant check out his column in the new york post one of the best baseball writers in the country. And i'm proud to say a friend of mine mr k. Ken david off. Ken appreciate you. I this i hate that. This happened in toronto. I'm sorry. I know we're celebrate. I don't love it. But i think that they did the best that they could given the circumstances. It's not about the fans and it's okay for me to be angry about this like this because there's nothing wrong with with jays fans did. I don't know that another fan base maybe aside from the marlins give him that kinda love. I would like to think so because baseball fans in general understand and appreciate moments like this so it's not taking away from any other fan base. We should absolutely applaud the jay's fan base for doing what they did and showing miguel the respect that they did that's that's awesome and honestly it's that kind of reception one of the reasons why you play the game here is your own fans are going to fall in love with you. Just because you're wearing their colors but to have an impact on the game to the extent that mickey has where it really wasn't gonna matter where he hit he was going to be loved and he was going to be celebrated. That's awesome. But i really wanted it to be for the tigers fans simply because they haven't had what they thought they would get with micki there and this is. I don't want to say a nice consolation prize but it would be a nice consolation prize and it's not gonna make you forget that the championships didn't happen but it can be your like you'll have this moment and they don't but they've got their guy and i know that when he gets back the celebration and the ovation is gonna be fucking wild. Yeah the dude is. He's a rare birdman. A river and it was really cool. Was some some fans from like venezuela where reaching out being like. We can't watch. Miguel cabrera here so like we follow you guys on social media to see the clips and like the the pursuit of five hundred like we're watching that shit on twitter and i mean he's obviously a god in venezuela for what he's been able to do with his his big league career coming from there and i was just curious anytime that someone that achieves a milestone like that you go back and you look at the the baseball reference page to see like the grand scope of things and do that for a nineteen year. Big league career is hitting over three hundred. I believe it's like three eleven and his career. Nine hundred yeah nine twenty two and it's like well you look at. I think it was a hundred and thirty. Six players are qualified this season. Only ten of them have an open. That are that's not nine twenty two or better and this dude's been doing it for almost two decades now for an entire career and we'll have the conversations we can have it now if you want About it's it's not even a debate. He's one of the best right handed hitters of his generation. Where does he fall. And the debate between pool halls. Cabrera trout's it's a different generation those rattles conversations though jerry can be different and they and i believe if you're going to have the conversations you have to you have to have them with a certain level of respect and a certain level of understanding that like what i'm about to say isn't comparing production and isn't comparing value of a player. That's because i that's up can be argued but ultimately there's facts numbers right and if i have one home run and you have none. Well i have more home runs than you and you can call me home. Run hitter between the two and blah blah blah blah blah. Like alex cora. What's that so. This feels like a shot against alex. Cora so that's a that's a great point. Like take me and alex cora right collegiate players both college. Baseball players both got to the big leagues. Am i going to tell you that. I'm a better collegiate hitter. Alex cora that i provide more pop than alexander. Because i hit one home. Run and alex. Gloria hit zero. No that just couldn't be further from the truth so like you try to make that case. Absolutely make that case to him. Ac knows who's got the fuck it big bat. Don't ever fucking sleep on it but micky dude like there's this feels there's vibes two guys okay and stature. Physical stature has something to do with it. sometimes it's just skillset like dustin. Pedroia could step in the box. You could feel that little motherfucker just because just because you know. He's got that to ball. Megi the presents not only physical but the bat to ball very aware of it. Basketball's the power. He was getting to pitches and still to this day. I mean the dude. Let's not forget. Hit a ball out. I gave the fucking year into the face of a blizzard. Okay out to right field and it was a ball down in. And that's patented miguel cabrera from the time he was nineteen years old. This it's been getting hy-vee lows shit inside inside outing. It out of the ballpark. That's just a type of threat that other hitters. Maybe didn't present and so the production like we're talking about albert pools and we always talk about folks who want to bury him as an angel like please go back in. Just spend five minutes and look at what that man did in a saint louis cardinal uniform and you'll understand why he is one a whichever side of the point you wanna look at when it comes to right handed hitters. Let me let me ask you this. Because i think i don't know if it's like a cut and dry i think it might be. What would you say how many years is.

"Work l. Boys got degraded there. Duck dave porter magic over there with some unobtainable put it in the foothills up quicker than any foot has ever held in the past dump. He's got a question about south beach. I believe ian What are you hearing about two. He looked pretty sharp. The other night jacoby actually looked really good too but all signs point to him look more healthy and more comfortable. What do you think about a You know they've been pretty positive onto as far as like an. Hey this is like surgically shaping taking the next step which were to really is something like throwing deeper taking more time in the pocket diagnosing throwing the you know taking more shots all of the things you want to see from a first year quarterback to second year like he's looking like it you know so it's that was a really good sign. I think the dolphins are team like their defense should be really good skill wise. They got some they got some ballers specially with waddell. And i think he's going to be really electric. Just need a quarterback that can distribute to looking like this if he continues on this path. It's going to go two things one. It's gonna force everyone to not make snap decisions on rookie players. Who aren't good enough for our expectations. The first year and to it's gonna make them. You know probably team that can compete for the. The people were snap judgment because be flow was pulled him out two minute drills and it's kind of like we were told the hayes guy stinks wherever matters or whatever it was that all. That's that's a good point and that's part of it. Right is that they basically told us with the actions that this guy is not someone should be on the field But you know you gotta win now and you gotta develop them for the future. That is unbelievably tricky balance and honestly last year. There were times when i was like. We'll see which way this goes. That's going to happen this year with a lot. That's gonna happen this year. A lot like it seems like this last year was fits magic in two or was a conversation right but there wasn't really many other condos. I don't think this year. There's like i know five six actual like this guy's his ass is hot right now it is. There's a chance. I mean it's like in like in denver. Donate a starting quarterback at some point. I think probably fairly soon next probably next week or so And whoever it is let's say it's bridgewater like you know that you okkas sitting there ready. Waiting for sign of you know going going to kind of strut in and do his dance thing. Like you're doing. There's gonna be a couple of those this year. And we're going to have to get comfortable with a bunch of new quarterbacks coming in and back and forth and like just it's hard to find one and if you don't have d- guy you gotta make do with whatever couple of guys you have. We appreciate you for all your time. I mean you are very kind to us. We appreciate it when you talk about making those decisions. Do you just see like dollar signs in your mind. Because the amount of insider information on quarterbacks thoughts and oh if he has one more bag game they're ready to pull the my sources. I mean the amount of my sources about this quarterback situations are gonna be huge right. I mean that's going to be a lot of conversation. Yeah when when the and roger situation was happening in the off season people were complaining. Because all we do is talk about rogers. I'm like let's do a baby like weeks. Who doesn't love. Aaron rodgers intrigue right. Yeah well for as long as there's some shit for you to break. I appreciate it because it gives us something to talk about. We appreciate all your hard work on the same page is mitchell. Trubisky gonna get traded for like maybe and carolina's up there in buffalo already. i would be supply. I mean. I guess nothing should surprise you but i would be a little surprised at that. Everyone had a chance to sign. Mitchell trubisky in march when no one had a quarterback and thing he got was two and a half million dollars only we'll see if he's not even not even gonna joke to not mcafee money but anyway which is not. Yeah for what we say. Someone loses a quarterback is going to be interesting to see if someone calls trubisky. I'd be surprised but does he do an awful the last week in this week to make someone okay. This guy that i saw on the field last year was not good enough for this guy. They see in the field. This year is going to be good. Megi does not want to fall into that gays umbrella where tannahill leaves and has success now. Mitchell trubisky potentially does i like nagy by the way after listening to is. He did a press conference. It seemed like he was pretty comfortable and cool and everything like that. They're going to win some games though. I'm sick of watching that bullshit up there. Ladies and gentlemen he grabbed now. The world's opening backup so many new thrills.

"Think of like bits. i liked and i always make a. I always try to was the beginning of the to talk about things. I liked before i get into nitpicky or critique and i struggled with this film but i'm not. I thought there was bits. I really disliked. I just think that was so much middle of the road. There was just so much beige. Will i think you've touched on one. I at least for me. I agree with you. scott that megi grace's character. I thought was much improved from the first one and that i'm like that. She was active in helping solve the problem. It wasn't the damsel in distress of the first movie. And she kind of dropped. The really awkward kind of ticks. That she was doing in the first one like the running and the swing your arms a lot. It felt like it was a character who had matured. so like. I'm not saying mega grace's delivering an oscar. Worthy performance here felt like just going to say. Yeah no that's actually exactly what i'm going to say right. Now that she was robbed at the two thousand twelve wasco. No but it felt like you know. If you're going to hand out like most improved. I felt like she'd warranted that also. I thought like fanta janssen's character. The performance was fine in the first one. It's fine here too. But i felt like the character wasn't written as brutally as the first time like in the in the first take and she's written to be thoroughly unlikable right from the get go immediately that like will clearly dad's right and you know the ex wife is horrible whereas i felt here there was a little more humanity. It's still pretty two-dimensional stuff. But at least. I could get on board with that character in some way. I couldn't in the first one. I feel like that. Maybe was because that m curtis named the no. She was kind of getting back william's character service. I guess i don't know if the run of the right is was having some issues of his ex wife or something. I don't know. I think that's what you're supposed to to get..

"Love the idea of a microphone. Being compared with a crucifix. I think that's an appropriately important symbol. But who's telling the story who who are we listening to as the story opens it's character named marty race. She's my protagonist in the spokane. She's actually both the voice in the recording and the person narrating so she's listening to herself. This clip from her podcasts. Being played during an award ceremony kicked off the book. So we get kind of her backstory in the podcast as well as sort of a nation in the beginning and then without getting up to any spoilers. What is the drama. The crime that She ends up being involved in with her podcasting friend andrea yes she So marty has very interesting backstory where she was interested in terrible her older sister. Maggie was Kidnapped or disappeared when she was eight years old. They were walking home together and they were stopped in the woods by a car and Megi Maggie told mardi to roj she basically lack overhand and said go and mardi watched her get into this car with a van that she didn't recognize and maggie was never seen again and data is sort of the the content of podcast that we're getting the club in the beginning is mardi telling the story of her sister's disappearance and the podcast goes viral because very popular and she wins the bid award in the the opening scene and so as a result she's contacted by a lot of people who have information about her sister's case and one of them is this woman named either grievance who reaches out about her own case because she thinks that there might be linkage between these two. She's working to free her younger brother from prison because she believes that. He's been falsely accused of a crime. That is actually linked to maggie's disappearance to mardi sister's disappearance. So yeah it's these sort of two cases that are working in parallel this back story about this on kidnapping for marty's family and then the sort of current time line of this wrongful conviction case..

"Calamity cast dot com and we are. we're back just like. I promised liz before we get back into the story. Can we go into a little bit of a discussion about the labyrinth here. We get to see you know the underground tunnels but we go through this door right and tooth and teabag are doing like a mid air fight and this is where we see that. This room is like three stories tall with multiple levels of balconies. The humans living there have clotheslines. Run from one side to the other. It's like an apartment building but underground. Yeah and it's like they're in the courtyard of the building or something. Yeah i do not get what this place is. I'm very intrigued. By it. And would like to learn more but i guess instead we have to watch these two idiots fight to just being all like piss boy baby and his like take orders from derek. Feel like it. A put you in this tube like maggie in. There's maggie trapped in the glass tube. You only have one yet. Did he mean he was going to put them both in the single too. Because i don't think that's going to work. I know it'll be like hey up close and personal like it. Hey girlfriend oh no now. We're having sex tube sex a glass to for everyone to watch. It's performance arts. They're smashed in so tight. No one can really see any action. That's true if the plan is to capture. Derek does mega to go free or does he have jail cells figured out. Why did he put maggie in the tube. It was just pissed derek off. Oh i'm sure that are making like this is a horrible idea and a horrible plan. Like i won't let you do it. And they're like shut up. Maggie and what are the tube. Shame on you claw your friend. What the fuck dude. Expect this from tooth but not you would. I don't get is if teabag and maggie didn't wanna follow tooth's orders. Couldn't they just be like exiled from the labyrinth way. Gotta put them in a tube. I know you were already given the option to live in the clock tower. Like if this went south can you just be like like gotta go back to the clock tower. I mean. I have to assume it's because tooth once that kind of subjugation from teabag it's a power trip it's knock ever gonna happen bro old teabag. Isn't that kind of guy. He's not a submissive. no he's a dumb for sure. Yeah that's why he's dating maggie 'cause she is a major yourself up all right so they're fighting in sunglasses. Guy shoots his bagel laser gun and we talked about lasers in xanadu tower earlier but this guy shooting his gun and missing a bunch underground causing major structural damage. He's going to collapse the whole labyrinth on himself. Do none of them understand the concept of like you're in a contained spaced. No stop fucking destroying where you live. They don't get it at all. Well he finally hits derek. Or maybe the other golden hits derrick derrick shot by these big ass laser cannons much like glances used to yup. And while all that's going on maggie pleads with claw to let her out so she can go get help so at this point tooth is knocked out. I don't remember how he got knocked out. I don't know if he got knocked out or knocked down. He his on the ground but was he unconscious. I think so because he wakes up a little bit later and it's like oh my god. What happened yeah. It was just kind of aerial fight. But i missed it to where he took a dive. Yeah i guess. Staircase got a good punch in or something and knocked him to the ground and whatever but yeah this is an maggie is like she needs to get help and convinces claw to set her free. Like i know you're of him. Fuck you claw. Don't be afraid of to. Nobody should be afraid of to you. Tell he's wavering. You can tell what maggie has to say matters to him and he kinda like sad little lost puppy look on his face which again. I don't understand any of it on a by so he lets megi go and megi runs away. Yeah and two is yellen claw. Because like what the cabinet to maggie clogged. Does his little mime bit and the goons. The human goods are like. Hey maybe we should go chase her down right. That's probably what we should do. Boss tooth right and tooth being the world's worst leader said there's no where she going to go during daylight hours. I mean maybe nowhere. Maybe she'll just go hang out elsewhere in the tunnels and you could quickly and easily recapture her. She didn't leave that long ago. Yeah she couldn't have gotten that far but instead you this letter go and she fucking immediately goes to the clock tower ticket. Her gargoyles buddies dude. You fucking idiot. She has just skies on which is like a cloak with a hood. Yeah i mean it's new york so no one would baton i. It is also weird that she chose a hooded cloak. That's not a normal thing that people wear. Yeah but at least it covers her wings. Yeah and puts a shadow on her cat like face. Well i mean she goes to the clock tower and waits for the rose to wake up and this cat. Cagney does not like maggie. I don't think that it likes the competition for brooklyn's affection. I figured it was more. Oh god what is this giant cat like creature. You'd think that she could relate to maggie big cat little cat. But now cagney ain't having. These are my gargoyles now so maggie relays. What went down in the labyrinth. And it's got got mounted up. It's time to go in. Hudson continues to be the quote unquote helpful old with this mortar over commotion. Talent needs help. Let's go for you. Didn't want to leave us. Lad this has nothing to do with what i want. You better come along this time. Hudson will need all the help we can get. Is that an order thin. Yeah i guess it is. Shut up dude. You're not helping. I don't know if you think you're actually helping. But i don't think you're helping. I feel if goliaths were here. Which is actively trying to prepare for oakland for the role. This is not the way it would go about it. Which is weird because hudson is who goliaths replaced. So you'd think because hasn't has gone through this before he'd be better. This is this. How hudson traded goliath when goliath took over as leader. He was just addicted. I mean if so maybe this is exactly the right way to teach a new leader because goliath turned up pretty well but glass and brooklyn or different people. Very different people. Maybe they.

Carbon offsets 101: How they work and how to get the biggest bang for your buck

"Carbon offsets one. Oh one i'm n._p._r. Chief meteorologist paul hutton her her. This is climate cats. They're called carbon offsets and you can buy them to offset your greenhouse gas emissions. But how do they work work. And how do you know they're really offsetting. Your carbon. Emissions maggie lund is a manager for greenie certification programs at the center for resource solutions nations megi. Thanks for talking today. Thanks all carbon offsets. One o-on what are they yes so a carbon offset is really just just a tradable purchaseable greenhouse gas emissions reduction so as a consumer you can go out and buy a carbon offset and apply that carbon offset to your own carbon footprint and negate or diminish your own carbon footprint so an easy example is let's say i drive cross cross country from san francisco to new york. If i calculate the greenhouse gas emissions from that trip i can go out and buy a corresponding number of offsets <unk> an zero out the emissions from that trip. Let's take an airline flight for example. What would a typical offset for an airline flight across the u._s._a. Cost me there is a pretty wide range of prices for different kinds of offsets depending on different kinds of benefits associated with that offset offset so with some offsets just the straight up emissions reduction in which case it would be a little bit cheaper probably around. I'd say five to seven dollars depending on who you're buying from a that's a rough estimate <hes> but if you wanna buy offset that has some attached co benefits which is other kinds of environmental or social benefits associated with the carbon offset project. That's gonna cost you a little bit more so let's say i do that. What what actually happens to the money. Where does it go when you think about a carbon offset generated all across the world it could be you know implementing energy the efficient technologies. It could be a renewable energy project. It could be a project with improved forestry practices. One of the core principles of carbon in offsetting is that without the revenue from the carbon offset or the carbon credit. The emissions reduction would have never happened so your investment as a consumer consumer into that carbon offset is what is driving the emissions reduction to happen in the first place. How is that verified. How do i know are the buyer no that that offset offset is working one of the most important if not the most important things to look out for as a consumer is what we call project level certification you know the carbon carbon offset market could potentially be a wild west if there wasn't some oversight of the projects themselves to make sure that the emissions reductions are quantified in a consistent and credible way so as a consumer when you're going out to buy these offsets. It's really important to make sure that the project project the offset is from has been certified at the project level because that certification body is the one that's going boots on the ground to the project to make sure that emissions actually are being reduced and they're the ones coming out with different processes and methodologies to quantify those emissions reductions so so let's say i i'm taking my flight right and i feel a little guilty about my greenhouse gas contribution for that flight i buy i buy my offset and and i've certified that it's legit. It's going somewhere. That's legit what would be a specific example of kind of offset project that that money would go towards. It's so a carbon offset project could look like a situation where normally a forest would be cut down but because of the investment into into this carbon offset project day avoid the deforestation in which case the trees remain standing and carbon dioxide is absorbed for years into the future church so as a consumer. What you're specifically doing is funding that avoided deforestation. It's probably worth noting that forestry projects six generally cost a little bit more to buy from than some traditionally less appealing project types so in the u._s. We see a lot out of what we call. Methane capture projects. That's where methane is captured in flared off into carbon dioxide which is less potent greenhouse gas than methane but they're you're still emissions coming from the project so you can argue that some projects are not only more attractive but you might have more holistic benefits as well well well and that's a great question because you know big picture. How effective are these offsets. Is there a more direct way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions rather than off set them after they're already in the atmosphere. Absolutely you know the the logic in the industry is generally reduce what you can offset what you can't it so carbon offsets are just one tool in a really big toolbox of activities consumers can engage in to <hes> reduce their carbon urban footprint so one is purchasing carbon offsets but another is just reducing your own emissions by installing energy efficient technologies or buying renewable energy or doing in a whole host of other things so what offsetting isn't is a permit to pollute. What about the airlines are are they already making carbon offsets part of the ticket price or they think that there's demand there for that in the future. I think there's absolutely demand for that in the future. I know that for some airlines they offer carbon offsets. Let's is kind of a back of the seat. You know you have your touch screen and you can navigate to the page where they allow you to buy. Carbon offsets to offset that flight but i don't know that it's necessarily built built into the price of the airline ticket yet although it is worth mentioning that there is this international initiative that's coming up. It's called corsica and it's something i think all countries eventually have to sign onto where international flights must be offset and that's coming up in the next decade or so. It's a program of the u._n. Baton and the criteria for those offsets is still being determined. It's kind of in flux but it is really looking to shake up. Not only the carbon offset market the the aviation industry is well. I can just see it now. When you log onto book your flight <hes> book your seat to check your bag and check the box for carbon offset right love love it yeah maggie lund for greenie certification programs that the center for resource solutions. Thanks for your perspective on climate cast today. Thanks thanks so much paul. That's climate cast n._p._r. Chief meteorologist paul

What Is The Path Forward For U.S.-China Trade Negotiations?

"Support for this podcast and the following message. Come from US's online MBA ranked number one by poets in Kwan's NPR listeners reap the benefits of a prestigious USC NBA. Find out if your if it more at USC online, MBA dot org. A presidential advisor made headlines yesterday by aknowledging effect. The fact involves President Trump's trade war, which involves ever increasing tariffs on goods that Americans import from China. The president has repeatedly made a false claim that China pays the tariffs yesterday. Chris Wallace of Fox News pressed White House advisor, Larry cudlow. It's not China that pays tariffs. It's the American importers the American companies that pay what ineffective a tax increase and oftentimes passes it onto US consumers. Fair enough. I in fact, both sides will pay both sides will pay and these things, and of course, it it's a the tariff on goods coming into the country, the Chinese aren't paying. No, but the Chinese will suffer GDP losses and so forth with respect to a diminishing export market by the end, their cud lows position was close to what economists have said China may well suffer if the taxes choke off US. Business with China? But it is Americans who pay the taxes and those Americans include Maggie rival, she's an American business owner and her California company light gear makes backpacks and luggage out of recycled materials, the bags are made in China and his tariffs climbed rival called off plans to expand her American company and instead began to shrink it, I cut back on my marketing, but I cut back on my own income late a couple people on libel says without some relief for small company may not make it past August, we do need to find a better solution between the two countries and get some balance in there in protection for the intellectual property, but crushing small companies and costing jobs over here. Just doesn't seem the right approach. One Americans experience of the trade war. David Wessel is with us next. He is the director of the Hutchins center at the Brookings Institution. David good morning. Once again, KOMO. Good morning. Steve I want to follow up on this. The president has imposed tariffs. We should note on multiple countries. Not just China. He says he loves tariffs. Tariffs are great. He prefers them. If he doesn't get a trade deal that he likes that they make money for the United States is any of that accurate. One piece of it is accurate. Tariff is Larry cudlow said attacks on the stuff that we import from China. Now, the president is right. The treasury is collecting money from these taxes. The question is who's paying those taxes? Now, China may absorb some of this. They may not pass along they may cut their prices or their currency may fall, which makes it a little easier for us to buy their goods without paying more. But as Larry cudlow said the available evidence suggests that most of the tariff is paid by Americans either the businesses that import the stuff who may choose to absorb the pain or alternately, the consumers and also domestic manufacturers who compete with China where we have them are free to raise their price. So basically, this is gonna hurt at eventually the American consumer now it's been a very small affect so far. We still don't import most of the stuff we buy and many businesses have been holding the line, but at a twenty five percent tariff. It's very hard to believe that will continue. Well, it wasn't supposed to go. This way was it because although the president has said he likes tariffs his goal was a trade deal. There were expectations of a trade deal just days ago. How did the talks go so wrong? That's a good question. I think there were some miscalculations in surprises on both sides here. According to my former colleagues at the Wall Street Journal, Bob Davidson, Ling Ling way who are covering this closely, the Chinese President Trump's criticism of the Federal Reserve as a sign he was worried about the vigor of the US economy and needed a trade deal, particularly as we get closer to the presidential elections. Mr. Trump, meanwhile figures that the Chinese were backtracking on some of their previous commitments they deny that. And he figures that China's being hurt more than the USO he decided to get tough. And so we ended up with this impasse. The Chinese have been really interesting, though, their rhetoric is very tough this morning. They've been saying, you know, we're not going to be pressured into a deal, but they haven't retaliated they've invited. The trade Representative Bob lighthizer in the Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin to come to China. It's not clear they're going to go and Larry cudlow keeps talking about how president Xi of China and President Trump are gonna meet in June at the g twenty meeting in Japan. I'm just dwelling on something you said there, David Wessel. You're telling me that the Chinese listened to the president and tried to figure out from what he says about so many issues what he was thinking and apparently made a miscalculation. Yeah. It's hard to believe, isn't it? Okay. So now, we have a situation in which neither side has said the talks have broken down. But they stopped stopped for the moment. And we don't know when things get resolved. What are the stakes? Well, the stakes are pretty high foreign stock markets this morning have reacted negatively. And I suspect that will continue unless there's some progress in the bigger picture is that when the United States agreed to let China into the World Trade Organization in two thousand and one in the Clinton administration. The hope was China reformers were on the rise. China's was on a play by the rules of the global economy. Chinese economy would become more like ours overtime. And that hasn't happened to the great frustration of businesses in the United States politicians on both sides of the aisle. So I think that what's at stake. Here is really an attempt to renegotiate the relationship between these two big powers how they'll interact in the future. And more broadly, the whole rules of the global trading system are at stake here. And I think that it we're not sure how it's going to shake out for domestic political reasons. Each of these men she and Trump seem determined to project an image of strength, while not hurting their economies the longer this. On the bigger the risks that this will have some damage done to both sides. And we did hear from megi rival that American business owner, even though she's being hurt. She had some sympathy sympathy for the goal of of of improving business conditions for Americans. David, thanks so much. You're welcome. That's
