"You've never listened before, this is a podcast that comes out every weekday for the most part. And it's usually about 5 to ten minutes long and we do ten or sometimes more trivia questions on different topics today. We're talking all about the bubbly world of soda, which I probably drink way too much of. I'm one of those guys that never grew out of drinking soda as a kid. All my Friends drink coffee and they drink sparkling water and I am just a big fan of good old fashioned cherry Coke or Pepsi or RC Cola, any color. And love me some cream soda. Love me some doctor enough. If you live down here in the Tennessee area, there's just so many things I like to try in the world of soda. Almost as much as I like beer. Really. And I drink quite a bit of that. So it's one of those things that is always been in my Wheelhouse and I hope you'll like soda trivia today. Before we get into it, I've got some questions for you from a random card in the weakest link at home game from 2001. Here's your first question. Megan mullally and Sean Hayes both won Emmys for their roles and what TV show. The answer there is Will & Grace will end grace. The next one and what time zone is the state of Montana in what U.S. time zone is the state of Montana that is in mountain time mountain standard time. And your third question here, which type of saddle has a saddle horn, English or western. The answer there is western and I don't know what a saddle horn is, but if I had a guess, it's that little nubby part that sticks out on the front. If you're a horseback rider, let me know if I'm right. Because I have no idea. I'm not going to Google it. I'm not going to take the time. But maybe you can hit me up on social media at Ryan buds or trivia with buds on just about everything. Let me know if I know my saddle trivia. All right, we're gonna jump into ten questions on soda pops right about now. Here we go. It is soda, trivia, question number one, what soft drink was originally named bib label, lithiated, lemon lime soda. Number one, what soft drink was originally named bibb label, lithiated, lemon lime soda. Number one..

"More unique personal approach to your work as an artist? So things like being told you should watch one episode of every show so that you can like mimic what they do or sort of ape their taste. That pretty quickly became clear to me as a fallacious idea where I was like if I succeed, I want to be because people see something in me that they're like, oh, this is good and fresh and like we want this ingredient in our recipe. I don't want them to hire me because they're like, oh, he's kind of similar to David. A murderer, whoever else, you know, he's kind of similar to a proven commodity. That's safe. He could be a third Belushi or whatever, you know. Let's put him on our show. To me, that's not my bag that would be really depressing. So I worked a lot less than maybe I would have if I just was like, hey guys, I love beer and tissue. Let's have fun. Several years in, you were living in a basement in silver Lake and hadn't had a TV for ten years when you went on an audition for the play the Berlin circle and heard that Megan mullally, one of the stars of the most popular television shows on the planet was storing, yet you weren't impressed. Well, no, that was, I mean, that was the last bastion of my Chicago snobbery. My dumb defensive Chicago snobbery because even when I got cast in the show, they dangled Megan as an incentive where they were like and our lead is on the new hit show Will & Grace. They had just finished their second season. This was the spring of 2000. And I said, listen, I know that that's supposed to be an incentive, but I'm from Chicago theater. I've played John proctor in the crucible. So, you know, I'm foolishly half my head up my ass. So I'm not going to be impressed by your Megan mullally's. And then the first day, you know, we did like a table read. And I was, of course, you know, I was like, oh, shit, you're a legend. Like, immediately, you're the greatest person I've ever done a table read with. And I was had a friend with a TV and I believe, you know, this is pre streaming. So thankfully, I was able to watch a couple Will & Grace reruns because the season was over, I think. And I saw the scales fall from my eyes, but not immediately, the first one I watched, I was like, oh man, I feel so bad for these people. They're trying so hard. This comedy is so broad. You know, and then towards the end of that, and then I was like, oh, let me watch another one. By the end of the second episode, my shit had goggles like cleared up. And I said, oh, shit. This is, this is the same as on stage farce. Like the most delicious concentrated version. So by the time I finished two and three episodes, I said, a, I'm so happy I'm working with this legend. B, how can I get a job like that? And so what good luck that these things befell me that I was able to lose that dumb sensibility and say, oh, everything is allowed. Don't be so stupid. I think that Karen walker is really one of the greatest television characters that has ever occurred in our culture. Couldn't agree more. No one funnier. No one. No offense. Noah, none taken. I mean, she we have a powerful teacher student relationship and I have no like I'm perfectly fine with my skill set and what I bring to the table. But I'm always totally happy to be a supporting character to Megan mullally. She's, I mean, I'm sincerely her biggest fan. You are both staunchly single when you first met, but found eternal love. I believe at a Glen Campbell concert. Glenn canyon. Yeah, that was where Cupid's arrow. Who would have come? Oh, we would. I mean, we're huge Glenn Campbell fans. I come from a small town in a rural upbringing, and she comes from Oklahoma City, which, although it's a state capital, feels strangely like a small town. Glenn Campbell definitely fits in Oklahoma City. And so rhinestone cowboy at the Hollywood Bowl is not something we would immediately say, yes, please wrap us up in a blanket, give us something to drink and let us be kissing by the end of that song. But I understand your first makeout session was to the great bex song, beautiful way. See, you guys have range. You have range. Megan Megan is like a musical encyclopedia. I mean, her amazing band, Nancy and Beth covers everything from the mills brothers. She does a vocal interpretation of the dying swan from the ballet swan Lake all the way to like completely modern Rufus Wainwright's song or Randy Newman's songs, petty Griffin songs. There's no rhyme or reason to be eclectic choices she covers..

"Most certainly knew that he played Amy Poehler's boss Ron Swanson on the sitcom Parks and Recreation. And you might know he's married to Megan mullally of Will & Grace and he appeared on that show as a plumber. But did you know that Nick Offerman is also a professional boat builder? And that he's written not one not two, but 5 really funny books. His latest is where the deer and the antelope play the pastoral observations of one ignorant American who loves to walk outside. He joins me to talk about his remarkably variegated career and to talk about his brand new book. Nick Offerman welcome to design manners. Thank you so much. I'm so pleased to be here. So is it true that your ultimate soundtrack for lovemaking is Peter Gabriel's music for the last temptation of Christ? Well, I mean, you'd be hard pressed to find a more suitable record, you know, it has it has romance. It has ambiance, and it also has screams of agony. So if you time it right, you know, it's like putting dark side of the moon to The Wizard of Oz. If you sink it upright, everything matches up. What makes it such an aphrodisiac, though, is that is there something about this sort of crescendo? I mean, I don't know, when that record came out for those who aren't familiar with it, it's a mostly instrumental Peter Gabriel tour de force. It's really drum heavy and period sounding, like otherworldly screaming and orchestrations. And so I've just always found it to be really moving. No one has ever asked me why so really examined it, but I guess I guess his rhythm in my own must align something about his music gets my juices flowing. Nick, you were born in the little town of manuka, Illinois, did I pronounce that correctly? That's right, yes. And your mom was a nurse, your dad taught social studies at the local high school. And I understand you grew up working on your grandparents farm where they grew corn and beans and raised pigs. What kind of work did you do on the farm? Oh, just menial labor. I mean, my first job, you know, if you work in agriculture, you hope to have kids because that's your labor pool. And they'll work for a sandwich generally. And so as a really small kid, grandpa would have me shovel out the poop out of the pig barn. That was my first job. Bailing hay, which means writing out behind the Baylor as the hay is harvested and stacking the bales, you know, throwing them up in the barn. And then on a soybean farm, one of the most prevalent summer jobs for young people is called walking beans. Where you actually walk up and down the rows of the entire fields of soybeans, just killing the weeds. We all learn to drive by the time we were 11 or 12, so we could haul empty wagons out to the field to be filled with corn and soybeans and stuff like that. And then just odd jobs. There is another job picking up rocks. So once the harvest would be done and last year's stems would be plowed under and the dirt would be turned over, often rocks, sometimes as big as your head would be turned up in the soil. And so you would be sent out with a tractor and a little trailer to just cover the entire field and pick up all the rocks you see. I read that when you were in the fourth grade studying vocabulary when your teacher taught the class, the word nonconformist. She defined it as a person who did the opposite of what everybody else was doing. Upon hearing that you raised your hand and told misses Christensen, you wanted to be a nonconformist. Where did that sensibility come from? Your question reminds me of at a young age, I want to say maybe first or second grade, I remember an art class. We had this project where we got a little piece of wood and a little paper cut out of a smiling clown head and then another little paper cut out that said a smile is the nicest kind of welcome. And the job was to stain the piece of wood and then glue the clown head and the text onto the thing and then varnish the whole shebang and take it home for mom and dad. And I remember looking at that sentiment, a smile is the nicest kind of welcome and it made me feel kind of whimsical. And so I tilted my clown head to what I considered a rakish whimsical angle and my teacher gave me a C and said, look at this, the head is crooked. And I said, ma'am, that is a rakish angle. I will one day come to know that that's called panache. And so I just always had this sensibility of like adding a little bit of a jaunty kick to whatever I did. And so when I heard that that was called nonconformity. I said, yes, please, please count me in for one of those. Nick, I know you were also an altar boy at church and have said that that helped you become very good at I acting. What is I acting exactly? I mean, you know, just the obvious of acting with your eyes. How do you do that? What I determined from, you know, my first stage was the altar of the Catholic Church where they never gave me any lines. And so I realized if I was going to get any response out of the crowd I was going to have to learn how to use my eyebrows and my intense gaze. And it was there that I began to understand deadpan. I did get to ring the bells a couple times during the mass. And so with my timing and depending on my eye line, I could really make my friends laugh just with my demeanor. And eventually they had me start doing the gospel readings in a position known as the lector. And so then it carried over where I found that if I had the right amount of gravitas and intense focus, the parents would be tricked into thinking that was sincerity and reverence. While all my friends just thought it was the most hilarious Leslie Nielsen in airplane kind of delivery. At that point in your life, what did you think.

"Do you remember the story of my grandpa Mike giving us Redman chewing tobacco and telling us to chew it like gum? I do remember that. Well, that grandfather grandpa Mike, his name is Michael Roberts. This is a little weird. Yeah, my mom's family or the Roberts. Okay. If it makes you comfortable, you could call me like grandpa pop pop. Over the course of the interview, that if that plays well for you. Are you using any tobacco products? I know. So, that's how my conversation with Nick Offerman started. The fact that I share a name with his grandpa, which, by the way, was also my grandpa's name, probably helped me on my mission, which was to understand the ingredients that make up this rather complicated man. And I know what you're thinking. Nick isn't complicated. He's funny. I hear that. He is, of course, best known as the actor who portrayed the mustachioed, hard ass libertarian, Ron Swanson. On the hit NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, dropping lines that are so brilliant. They get printed on t-shirts. There's only one thing I hate more than lying. Skim milk, which is water that's lying about being milk. Meek also does theater and movies. And solo live stage shows that makes up humor, biting social commentary and so on. I'm a manly man and I don't go in for smelling like a lady I like a Musk that's manly as the stubble on my chin. But. And here is where you start to see why I call him complicated. The guy is also an accomplished woodworker. He runs a shop in East Los Angeles that handcrafts traditional furniture, and the occasional canoe. At one point, he was enlisted to produce and star in an instructional video on canoe grafting. My name is Nick Offerman. I'm a woodworker, but I've never built a canoe before. And if you're watching me now, chances are you haven't either. Nick is also an author, who has written four books. The story he mentioned about his grandpa Michael Roberts comes from his latest, which was published earlier this month. It's called where the deer and antelope play. The pastoral observations of one ignorant American who loves to walk outside. The moment we heard that title. We knew we had to talk to Nick for this show. And I figured I could use a conversation about the book to try and get a handle on who he really is. And how he does it all. I find you kind of a hard guy to figure out, you know? You're an actor and a humorous to a times enjoys some kind of raunchy humor, but you're also an author has this really impressive fluency in the writings and foundational environmental writers, like Wendell berry and Aldo Leopold and John Muir, and your kick ass woodworker and you grew up in a small town in a farming family, but now you live in LA and somehow you've mashed all this up to deliver this new book, which presents this really incredibly thoughtful take. I don't want to be important topics. So, you know, that's what I'm hoping we can do today. I want to make sense of all that. Okay. I can't wait for someone to make sense of me. Yeah, it's a tall order for an hour long podcast interview. But, you know, your creative guy with a lot to say. So I think we can just go for it and hopefully something will make sense here. Let's jump to the middle of our conversation. Because that's when Nick told me a story that really helps us understand everything else. About 20 years ago, I was a skilled Carpenter. I was building cabins and decks for people in Los Angeles. But then things started to go well in my acting career. And so logically, I should have then quit building furniture because my dream had finally come true. I was going to have a career in the performing arts, but I had a very formative moment. I met my wife, Megan mullally, who had just done the first two seasons of Will & Grace. At the end of the 90s, and we met doing a play, we got together. We fell in love. We moved in together and bought our first house in the hills and we had a little swimming pool. And this would have been about 2003. And she went to work one day and I was mister mullally. I was working as a Carpenter and occasionally as an actor. And I thought, man, I have made it. Like this is my dreams have come true, I got it made. I smoked a joint and I had outdoor speakers for God's sake. I put some Neil Young on the outdoor speakers and went to float in the pool. And it lasted for about a song and a half. His early record, everyone knows this is nowhere. Coincidentally. And somewhere into the second song, I just thought what are you going to do lay around all day? Are you going to become an asshole? Because you can afford it. And I was like, oh, right. My my life, my self worth is derived from doing something productive of from being of some use to someone. And so I'm so grateful because that kept me from becoming a jerk with like a yacht. Or a person of leisure. You know, if that's your bag, I'm not judging it, but for me, if I choose that path, I will probably become an alcoholic or some sort of addict or that sort of idle hands situation is not good for me. And so anywhere I can I love to continue to make things with my body, my coordination, my strength, as long as I have it, that makes my life feel so much better. So like helping my friend James repair a stacked stone wall on his sheep farm in The Rain in the cold, that's my Disneyland. Sign me up for that. I will stand in line for the pleasure of getting something done. We'll circle back to the sheep farm in a bit. But first, let's rewind another decade. To the very beginning of Nick's education in the philosophies that would help him realize the importance of his childhood on a farm in rural Illinois, and ultimately provide the core ideas that permeate were the deer and antelope. In the mid 90s, I was working in theater in Chicago at the steppenwolf theater doing this production of Sam shepherd's buried child. And an actor in that play, named Leo burmaster, who sadly is no longer with us, but this amazing, larger than life, Kentucky, actor. He's recognized something in me, and he gave me a book of Wendell berry short stories. And I read those stories. I'd grown up my mom's family is still farming, corn and soybeans, they had pigs till I was in high school. My mom and dad grew up on farms like three miles in each direction from the home in a cornfield. I grew up in with them in my three siblings. So it's very rural agricultural setting. And what I discovered in the Wendell berry stories, I just was gobsmacked by the respect the reverence that he has for honest decent hardworking agrarian morality. My simple sort of boring parents who up until that point I resented because they baked bread every Sunday and I wasn't able to get that cool shiny bread from the store, like all the other kids had. So.

Bill Spadea came on board in Bound Brook. I thought you were at that show. Yeah. I don't remember the name of the theater, but but I was there back broke hard. Not it was still single. Bagley Wood. You think Audrey Meadows carry Jackie Gleason? Not Connie, Huh? I really do because Yeah, Jackie. Well, maybe not are carny. Jackie Gleason was good, but Audrey Meadows was the funniest of the four of them. You know what she was, in many ways the quarterback of that show because Gleason would do the show half in the bag. And she would like, you know she would shake her hip one way and he knew what to do when she would you know he would play off are you know she would pretty much read him, but she kept you know Alice Kramden kept Ralph grounded. And when she went for the role, she they thought she was too pretty. Because part accountant was the original Alice and pert Kellner ended up losing a job. She was part of the McCarthy blacklist and hearings and she's Communist, they said, and all that she ended up in a room the career but And later she gets cast is Alice, his mother. But when Audrey Meadows tried out for the part, they said she was too pretty. So she really wanted the part. So she ugly herself up, went back and did it again and stood up to Gleason. And one of the other things, too, is that I think was her husband or somebody who negotiated. Ah contract. That she would get residuals. Up until 1962 showing off in 56. She was the only one to get residuals. Everybody else back then just got paid. And the idea that we're not gonna do anything with this way you can. They never thought of the concept of reruns back then. Uh, but her husband figured it out. So 1 802 831 on 1.5 Cloris Leachman is gone and 94 years old, So give me give me the, uh, sitcom actress. That is somebody that could they was talking about this today. If they brought years back, it would be so easy. What do you make in Ted Danson? The mayor l. A. Who cares? Put him back a Sam alone. And you go get we a promo in back and you go get you know whoever wants to come back, and then you hire some young people to be the bartenders and waitresses car was over and that writing if you could get those writers back Oh, my God. "Yeah I gotcha okay Bernie thank you you're welcome bye bye Seinfeld has a lot of fans here's John on WGN hi John yes I just found this out while looking at some YouTube videos the one of the greatest episodes and monologues ever in the marine biologist the monologue about this he was angry that friends yeah that was written on the spur of the moment by Larry David originally the episode was supposed to end with the Chatham towards walking into the ocean in the people watching him and they were taping it and you know that the outdoor stuff a pre taped held that seat to the studio audience and it was a middling reactionary Davidson we need a better ending and they said let's take a fifteen minute break anyone to teach in Alexandria said if I write you a new model of delivery quickly yeah he wrote the whole monologue with him telling the story at the diner in like a fifteen minute break and given patient Alexander learned it and they shot it and they did it in one take and if you watch it you could see Julia Louis Dreyfus internecine felt try not to play yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and and the final line is at a title list from from Kramer said went when he went inside and it pinched the monologue it was like a one minute lap and the audience laughed solidly for one minute before Michael you could say that line and then they can set it up you know cut out all that laughter yeah yeah class was asked back they were shooting the episode by Larry David now that's great stuff that's a great story all right John thanks K. your favorite Seinfeld episode me arm one of the I'm not as unfortunately is deep into it as you are I mean the TV guide thing kills me that stag guessing every collects these and what kind of person takes another Frances TV guide or the the girl the one where it's several got a friend visiting from out of town yeah and she's gonna like stay at his place and the he assumes it's going to be kind of a romantic endeavor and they have this whole argument about whether or not it that's is that is that the first episode birds I feel like it's early very early yeah that's a very early I I think it's hilarious I think it's like one of those average everyday kind of problematic episodes that they have that I think is unbearably funny yeah yeah I'm eyes might F. as I have said before before the opposite my favorite but there are a lot of there are a lot of great episodes of Seinfeld the real George Costanza sued Seinfeld creator's for a hundred million dollars like Kramer George Costanza was partially named after a real person Jerry's former friend Michael Costanza who sued Seinfeld David and N. B. C. four hundred million dollars claiming that the series and violated his privacy the court sided with the show's creators who have always maintained that George is based on co creator Larry David in his book the real Seinfeld as told by the real Costanza Pakistan's a noted George's bald I'm Paul George's stocky I'm stocky George and I both went to queens college with Jerry George's high school theater a teacher nickname was can't stand here so I so did mine George anything about bathrooms and parking spaces so why that's that's loose at best yeah that's you know that definitely falls within the realm of inspired but you can't you get what a hundred million dollars he wanted yeah I don't I think they threw out good but the thing is the other thing is we shouldn't be thrilled like if somebody if somebody based the character on me and the show and it was like the best character on the show I would be I would be fine with that now I guess it's it might be one of those things where it's like what's his name Michael Costanza yeah well George Costanza wall is a great character throughout all television history whatever he's still like a loser he is a total loser most of most of the jokes are at his own expense yeah so I guess it's the thing of being having a character based on you is a total loser implying that you are also a total loser I guess but I I mean it's our it's a frivolous lawsuit yeah a waste of time Seinfeld's female lead was originally a waitress named Claire originally the main female character was supposed to be Claire a waitress at the coffee shop would offer Georgian Jerry advice with their coffee when we shot the pilot I was the girl in Seinfeld leak Garlington the actress who played clear in the pilot told Huffington post they didn't pick up my contract there are differing accounts as to why this happened Jason Alexander said it was because Garlington rewrote all over lines while Seinfeld confirm that she did indeed give Larry David a rewrite he swears that's not the reason she was replaced saying that they needed a character who was a little more involved I've you know you know I remember in the pilot I'm I remember in the pilot this that she was like the regular she was like the regular female character Julia Louis Dreyfus wasn't aware of the Seinfeld pilot episode until two thousand four in a making of documentary on the season one DVD Julie we Dreyfus admits that she wasn't even aware of the pilot until night two thousand four it has no plans to watch it Garlington can re eight re the relate I think I watched two episodes in ten years just because I had friends on or something it didn't bother me for the for the first five years but the second five years drove me nuts and I don't know why yeah Rosie o'donnell audition to play Elaine on Seinfeld can you imagine Rosie o'donnell playing that part not even I mean I can't imagine it will you know you can imagine anybody right playing it budget but chillier Dreyfus I get and there's some other people that I could see Rosie o'donnell audition for the part of a lane at the behest of J. Larry David the two world friends having come up with the the stand up comedy scene together Riske hard to get a target today Patricia Heaton any aspect and Meghan allow we were also among the actors and actresses who auditioned for the part I can see Megan Mullally which is almost too whiny yeah because she I mean she gonna be on will and grace right and well yeah twos all of these people would go on to big things yeah big things yeah all right Elaine's dad really did scare the hell out of the Seinfeld cast in the series Elaine's father is noted author Alton Venice the character was based on revolutionary road novelist Richard Yates the father of Larry David's own axe Monica Yates who really did intimidate David in the series almost played by legendary tough guy Lawrence Tierney who played Joan reservoir dogs in the season two episode the jacket which was based on David's real night out with the aids though it was intended to be a recurring role Tierney like its on screen counterpart really did terrify the cast particularly when Seinfeld discovered that he had stolen a butcher knife from the set and hitting the was done under his jacket Lawrence Tierney scared the living crap out of all of us Alexander admitted in Salton Venice made just one single appearance on the show yeah man I would not want to have to tango with Lawrence Tierney no no no Seinfeld had a strict no hugging no learning policy Larry David made sure the cast and crew were aware of his no hugging no learning model for the show which meant that the they should avoid any sort of sentimentality or situations that would force the characters to change or grow a lot of people don't understand that Seinfeld is a dark show David said if you examine the premises terrible things happen to people they lose their job somebody breaks up with a stroke victim somebody's told they need no job that's my sensibility manual is the core of the show so well I'm how about this one L. yeah again now the real soup store owner upon which the soup **** is based was not pleased with his depiction of the series and as evident from a CNN interview where you call Seinfeld a clown whose use of the N. word the **** word is disgraceful when the interviewer countered that you're famous because of him he insisted no he got fame through me I made him famous unsurprisingly Seinfeld was banned from other restaurant which didn't stop the comedian for making a surprise appearance when the soup stall opened re opened in two thousand ten they got in trouble a few times with real people man I mean that's the difficulty of got a show about where comedians get their ideas from yeah and the whole thing is that they get it from real people they get from regular people that they've just met in their life yes haha venture you're gonna run afoul yeah an abandoned storyline revealed the soup **** was a real **** what some Seinfeld storylines that got cut Frank is stands a gets into medical marijuana a woman called the prompter who leaves out key details and stories the soup **** being an actual **** Kramer fixing up human skeletons from museums and the whole gang going to Mexico but does wait for it nothing that prompted one who leaves out key details and stories that that then became yada yada yada that's clearly yada yada yada.

"Trending topics Lauren lapkus has stepped into the studio and look at this I know you are a big sports lover and sports cover and you enjoy thing sports Jay Cutler reportedly talking to CBS and ESPN about doing another kind of the beginning of the broadcast booth G. gray number how has he always seem so motivated about everything he's such a lack of enthusiasm everything he does and then they they I I don't know how we think about Tony Romo NJ in the broadcast this night exactly two night and day but there you go I guess the very Kavallerie reality show he's been hosting with his wife is kept him in the TV and now they're they're looking at the former bears quarterback on took but it bring him to the broadcast booth I am watching Kristin show have you been watching it at all I don't watch that I've heard a clips that we have played from and mostly making fun of it Gigi sake is here also does the winters business our you know she has a she she has a store that recently opened on Randolph she has a good gym there was only right she was cited there last weekend several Kavallerie sightings I've met her a few times she's a lovely wonderful celebrity and I enjoyed watching her what was originally she started off on the hills yes yes because I am into the again the reality business but I don't they so they're going to maybe take a chance on him that's that's what everybody's talking about that he's he's going to be a in the broadcast booth so Lauren doesn't seem excited no I that I I can't imagine him being kind of sleepy exactly he's always just whatever yeah kinda whatever which okay we'll see we'll see how it turns out listen to this the Gayle king situation that we talked about yesterday at this time that you know how she writ she's now receiving death threats over her Lisa Leslie W. NBA interview that she did about Kobe Bryant remember she said yesterday as she was horrified however network CBS had to utilize that in promos and teases and kind of turned into click bait which is where we are talking about yesterday kind of made it sound as if Lisa Leslie talks about his legacy Kobe's legacy and how it's all about rape I don't know the exact words those are not them but she somehow she felt as if it was presented in a salacious way and she's very upset she did not appear on the show today Oprah saying Gayle king is not slept since that interview and that she is receiving death threats and I learned that action I love the Oprah is Gail spokesperson in this situation who is better I don't have it clearly CBS is not sticking up for her and it was you know whoever posted the article title however you want to put it right ever chose to take that little snippet of the whole interview is responsible because she did do a very detailed interview she does seem some of her CBS colleagues have come out and and agreed with her and it's standing buyer but well that's pretty powerful to be able to say that about the company that you work for it is how it you know you've been TV visit as well as she she's a she's got property is what I said yesterday he's our she's a juggernaut herself so I mean you know it's very well shows how powerful you are if you can say that about a network CBS network for yes that you work for so anyway she said now for now and she isn't she's not happy in a lot of people are telling her they're not happy with her because of the way they perceive the interview so we'll see what happens there with Gayle king Sean Hayes did you ever watch will and grace three one great love will and grace and back yeah so these he's basically going to be at the Goodman theatre in twenty twenty one teaser agreed to sign on to good night Oscar hello I would love to see him on stage he is my favorite along with that Megan Mullally and her vodka martinis and constantly I always said it should have been called you know John and Megan twos whose names escape me right now okay this one a lot of people talk about this let people happy about this did you hear what Netflix is doing to change things and this is responding to a lot of its users saying Hey could you please change this they're turning off the auto play feature so that's going to end the constant previews the palm up that way and then also the other thing I think it's gonna stop which I I like is right when you watch one episode yeah automatically flips to the next and sometimes before you can stop it you just goes right I love Italian help say binging this is why they're still want to three in the morning I was actually watching stuff on demand yesterday and I was missing that feature that I'm used to from Alex because I'm like how can I get the remote again word in the room okay notice that sometimes I will binge watch an entire series and out I think to myself what happened what if what what was the plot by so quickly right well it does sort of encourage binge watching I think when it just sort of goes right all right I can watch one more I was watch one more right and then you just keep going and it can be very addictive but this is also to stop the pop up those other you know que you should also watch this movie you may also be interested in this he was recommending group lab to me going out that is the guest with Dr is a reality show doesn't conquered enough has now got our own Netflix series about group lab the laboratory and what they do at coop and I'm like no I don't want to watch this I will tell you sometimes they know you pretty well and they recommend things to me that I've been like I kind of would probably like that and then I sort of do but does it well here it is I believe they say that though they made the autoplay feature user controllable not disabled but the I think you can disable thought in the study the settings and and kind of take care of that I don't know I haven't done it yet but I I I don't mind them I hate it when it's right when I I pop up Netflix and whatever they're featuring starts playing and like I I don't hear it right now wait till I start scrolling through and obviously if I sit on it for awhile maybe give it two to three seconds and then start playing instead of just going over and over and over okay so alderman a cracking down on the right healing safety the got a big meeting there posing major finds you know we've had some incidences where you have people been impersonating ride hailing drivers we've talked about this on the show before and that alderman now say ten thousand dollar fine would be issue if you do this they're making a bigger crime trying to you know make sure the people are safe I think the people forget you gotta remember to do this look at the license plate it's on your app it's right there sometimes it'll say black SUV or black Nissan or whatever and you'll just walk up to the curb so that looks like a black Nissan and you get in and that that has been the issue where it has been a fake driver's sort of waiting for those folks who are just leaving a party or leaving a business or restaurant and willing to get into the car without in the app or does very distracted by something yeah yeah just acted which I mean we all learn the many ways you doing lots of things but that is something you got to be careful for sometimes I've gotten in a car and they've said what's the code and you have to tell them what the code is that they sent you yeah this thing sounds like a good sixteen feature of peace okay so we all talk about we're worried about the corona virus but maybe you should be more worried about pizza the number of hospitalizations in the U. S. involving pizza we have fifty percent last year it gets people fall upstairs while carrying a flashing a finger while cutting a pizza and there are no fewer than thirty eight hundred visits to the ER related to Italian food isn't coming in seconds but pizza was number one up way up I don't think I've ever been injured with I definitely have burnt the roof of my mouth because of PLO that's on here that's on the list burning the roof of the mouth because I'm so hungry and it's so delicious and it smelled so could I can't wait you can't wait that's very true sometimes you take a bite and the entire part of the cheese comes up yeah we're here is the final one here on trending topics this afternoon adorable golden retriever breaks world record by fitting six tennis balls in his mouth all I I don't know what it is about the holdings but they love doing that I my whole family group with golden's because I had a an uncle that bread Goldens and especially my grandma's dog Max he would carry at least for around and is now this I think is huge but six incredible I don't get it I did it did you discover here just go and pick up so we all like you left a whole bunch of them on the floor could get all of them yeah that's that's a talent but this one in particular this golden retriever New York just but broke the world record six tennis balls in his mouth I plan to Google that right now it's got to be a cute picture you know what I have to check it out myself we're back with more we're gonna check in with roe Conn see what's coming up on his show three to seven here on WGN radio that that way and at the top of the hour should mention the news from the northwestern medicine newsroom this.

"Information visit see our daughter I'm John horn and this is the frame now more my chat with wood workers slash actor slash comedian Nick Offerman it turns out when Offerman came take KPCC studios the other day it may not have been the first time a few months ago I taped a live interview here with offer man's wife comedian and musician Megan Mullally who had this to say yeah. please talk about him yes on the car. she did I leave the windows. the. no no the check. you've been waiting a lot all this time many months the windows were open you had some food and some water I mean this is the story of my career said the parking lot of NBC for decades you know for ten years and then finally somebody asked me to come in and sweep and somebody else thought that my mustache was funny and here we are I'm curious about creative decisions creative choices you make you're doing something with no Holly lives in the sky I think you're doing something coming up with Alice garland how do you decide what gets you motivated what interests you and how is that involved over the last couple of years in terms of choosing things and say no to other things well let's see it's a great question there is there is a time I don't know fifteen years ago does Mr Megan Mullally and my wood shop and I was working semi regularly as a character actor and I driven from Los Angeles to Santa Clarita which is maybe forty five minutes north and that's where he had to go if two if you had an audition for CSI and I've been up there maybe seven times to read for some version of the the rapist or serial killer of that being cast that's right okay yeah the seven times means for seven. and and number eight came and this is probably over four years or something and audition number eight came in and I said you know what. they haven't given it to me is seven times I'm going to I'm not gonna go I'm gonna choose a minister to choose to say no to things and it's incredible to just ever get a job in Hollywood in the first place and so if things go well enough that you get to the point where you can pick things and that's that continued of course parks and recreation up to my cachet I mean exponentially to the point where one that ended. the business is a business so I I certainly was being offered a huge sit com leads contracts but they were all about an ex marine who loves to grill and or a football coach you know who is tough as nails and I was like yeah this is the only thing I don't want to do is another mustache comedy and so Meghan and I have really always been this way it whether it's in the theater or in in in shooting for the camera we'd we'd don't go looking for a comedy or a genre all we do is consider the writing that comes across our table and see what moves us doesn't matter if it's funny or tragedy it's just writing that we think is good and working with people that we think are good people that won't be a nightmare I'm now I'm where I'm really expecting something to come along for Meghan who is the greatest actress light I may be slightly biased but she's you know she's known for her comedy chops but her dramatic work is astonishing I'm just you know I'm expecting her to have a a Bryan Cranston turned where somebody realizes she should be the leader of the the next flea bag or breaking bad or ask you one last thing about what works explain what would works is W. O. U. L. D. and why it's important to you well would works as a program in Los Angeles that was started by some very smart people they were they were interested in trying to help us deal with our our homeless problem here and the idea of what works is people on Skid Row or or people who have lost their homes can sign up to come perform labor on woodworking objects cutting boards and coasters and gift items and instead. getting paid they sign up to receive something they need to get back on their feet which could be a pair of glasses a suit of clothes first month's rent anything like that and then they come and perform the labor they're trained by a couple of the wood workers from my shop they do that they receive their per of classes or whatever it is but more importantly then receive a work reference where prospective employers can call and we say yes Julie showed up she was sober. you know I I would take a chance on her she's a good lady and and the thing is when misfortune strikes you which in so many cases it's because of health care issues it's it's like when you think of people in prison your mind goes to this incorrect place of like it's a bunch of evil people or the homeless you think to bunch of losers are drug addicts or whatever. and it it when you meet them you're like oh deserved their us it's people who have met with misfortune of circumstance human beings don't wanna lay around in a tent on the sidewalk they want to do something that gives their lives meaning and that's why it's called would works these people would work if they could in when it came to my attention I you know it's just a natural fit for my wood shop and I'm grateful that were able to help prop up the organization is it is it becomes healthier and stronger you know like I keep hoping for a platform to I think every city across the country should have something like this it's really helpful great.

Hasan Minhaj talks about the struggles of having his name pronounced right

"We had this is a guy. I just love. I call him Assan Manashe. He claims that his name is Haas on Manhattan. I call them home. He he he hosted the White House correspondents dinner a couple of years ago. I think it was the first White House correspondents dinner when Trump was President Trump declined to attend, and he was brilliant. I I remember listening to it in the car, we were on the way to dinner with my with Emily my daughter, and we could knock it out of the car because he was outrageously funny, and pointed and smart, and it really liked those things he really blew up after that. He now has his own show on Netflix called Patriot Act and it's a series, and it's it's it's politically charged and also smart, and and really funny, and it was his first appearance on our show. And he he told that he confessed to us that it was the thing that his mom had hoped. He would do is get to be on the Ellen show. Yeah. But I really liked him a lot. Here's very likable, dude. Yeah. He's cool. Here's a clip of that. Nice to meet you. I'm a huge fan of you. Thank you Assan Manashe. Yes. No, really. My name is Husselmann hush. Oh, I wanna do this actually want to do this on national television. Please everyone that says your name says Hasan Moniz. Yeah. But the real way you pronounce it. And this is a big deal because my parents are here. It's Husselmann Hodge and people always mispronounce it. They're always like a scene Menasheh Hussein. I'm so sorry, I can't pronounce it. Meet my son Higgs wither throttled third. How do you pronounce house try it? All right. That's on mini ish. No, that's not how I appreciate people trying. I was actually I was doing CNN which is like, it's it's a international drama show where nine people yell at each other. And the host brought me out. He was like he was trying really hard. He was like breathing heavily. And he was just like give it up for how thin mean high. It was like he was casting a spell on me. And I'm just like. You don't have to say it again. So that people hear it again, hus-, cinnamon. Hush house men has. Yes is how yes look when I first started doing comedy people like you should change your name. And I'm like, I'm not going to change my name if you can pronounce Ansel Elgort you can pronounce it doesn't actor named Ansel Elgort, and we all just walk around pronouncing completely normally. Yeah. Well, did generous was hard for people to get for a while. What did they do de generes or degenerate or like? Lots of other things you cited strong. Yeah. And now, it's too generous. But Hossan Menasheh Schmid so emphasis on the H S. And what do they do at Starbucks today at Starbucks? I just go by Timothy shell LeMay. Keep it simple. And they usually do it right with Timothy with to ease.
