Why Farm Reforms in India Have Been Met With Widespread Protests

"It was january. Twenty six republic day in india. It's this big national holiday. Normally there is a massive military parade in the capital delhi. Everybody watches it on tv but this year. The holiday gets completely overshadowed when tens of thousands of farmers roll into the cd on their tractors waving flags and they are angry and the reason they're angry is that the government has passed these new agriculture reforms. Laws that basically let the free market into what has been a pretty closed system. So i'm watching this tractor rally on tv from the other side of the country and mumbai where i live and all of a sudden things escalade farmers just bust through police lines and then they're getting teargassed and you can see them storm. The red fort like in real time. I'm watching them scramble. All over the ramparts of the seventeenth century palace and the whole thing is just shocking so a book it down to this cricket field in downtown mumbai where farmers from this part of the country are gathering in solidarity and some of them had literally walked hundreds of miles days to get here and while there overturning buses. And it's like mayhem in delhi here. It's like a music festival. It's this amazing atmosphere. You you look around. And it's kind of surprising mixture of people there their farmers for sure but then there are also like mumbai hipsters and housewives in their fifties and it just shows you that even in india's biggest megacities a lot of people have a connection to farming. I mean a lot of people. Even if they aren't farmers themselves through grandfathers were their fathers were maybe their mothers and i mean even now like half of indians make a living from

"So When I had made that decision to. I was like, okay I'M GOING TO GO TO MED training by sailboat I had no idea what I was doing and so I went to read it and I typed up my whole situation I was like this is what i WanNa do our go to the Mediterranean live on sailboat I have no experience only do this by A. What do I? What kind of paperwork do I need to make this legal because? I? Don't even like I don't even know where to look to figure out what kind of paperwork I need. In, so put that onto read one guy was like, yeah, you definitely can't do that by. April that's impossible. Then another guy was. Much more guide and it was like. Here's a he'd. Put like three or four paragraphs in was like. I did it in the Caribbean? This is what you need. This is what you don't need this what they say you need, but you don't really need. And he just kind of laid all that out and then he was like Oh and by the way. I. Have Sailboat in Barcelona that I'm trying to sell because I moved into a Catamaran and I was like, oh, that's interesting. What kind of boat is it? So he sent me some photos like how much do you want here's like this much and I was like well, that's too much and it's I don't need it for four months so on and I've never seen it. So I'm not going to buy a boat that I've never seen more months in advance. So I just stopped messaging him. In about a month later, he came back with half the price A. Sauce. Okay. Well, let's just kind of keep this conversation going and then it just so happened that Barscelona is where the cruise ship was ending like that's where it was landing and so a week before. I. I ended up. Being like here's my offer Will You Here's my offer of ten grand. Will you? Buy It for that if The by for that sight unseen, I'll take that risk based on your word. If I get it for this price because that's insanely cheap and for a boat that's like crazy cheap in so. That was a risk I was willing to take, and so he said, okay let's do it. So. We landed in Barcelona at like eight am, and then by one PM moving onto the book. It was perfect and it was like within walking distance of where the the ship landed in. So we We spent the next three days just kind of getting her ready took everything out of the boat clean. The whole boat took inventory of what all came with, which was like gear. Really happy with like it was really well kitted out. The buds already been around the world wants in, it's sailed across the Atlantic both ways. So we took inventory, cleaned it all out and then. On May Eleventh, we moved onto it on. Mesa on May eleventh we did our maiden voyage to my Orca, which was one hundred and eleven miles. So that was a twenty plus our sale. And that was our first sale and so we did. Over the next month, we did some different work on it. took it out of the water did some repairs Cleaned it up. painted. The deck and all that kind of stuff and then eventually renamed the boat and we've renamed it changes name to Ardian Rot and that's Celtic name comes from Celtic Mythology Arjan Rod is the The Goddess of the Moon Right it's the silver. Moon. My silver wheel and she. In, in the myth, she has two sons. In one of the sons. is named Dylan and so dylan also means son of the wave and as I. I I I didn't think I was going to rename it, but I wasn't particularly fond of the name of the sailboat at the time and. Had already been renamed before. Had never been renamed between its owners wouldn't have renamed it but had since it had already been renamed. Yeah. Let's do it. And so the denied learned that story I was like, yeah, that's the name. That's the name of the boat. So renamed her name's Ardy on Rod. Nice. So before we go, why don't you tell us about? So the floor channel is where people can see like toward and videos of all these alternative living spaces and then your new channel. Why don't you tell us where where we can find it and like what we what we can expect to find on it. Right. So if you go to youtube and you just search dylan megacity than both channels will pop up both floor and Dylan. Mick Gastro pop and floor is the alternative living spaces, short documentaries and then Dylan megacity. We just recently launched in its. These short videos on. You know around ten to twelve minutes something like that. Maybe bit longer maybe bit shorter. About, travel and adventure in philosophy in life into. Their videos on what you would expect to get out of travel right? Just we went from point a to point B, and this is what happened. It's like we went from point A. to Point B.. This is what happened in. This is how it changed me as a person or this is the things I learned from that or this is the. Cultural and philosophical ideas that. Were thought provoking from that into. But like I said, it goes into the philosophy of life and traveling things that I've learned while living on the road and living on the sea. And how that's impacted me as a person. "Or do you think Levada is miles ahead? Okay. So first of all, this, isn't golf is not tennis. And in tennis. You have double sometimes. He Kevin Durant to me is amazing. The best score. In the history of the game. There's nobody that's better than him. When it comes to how he scores seven feet tall. The last time I checked basketball's a team sport. So who would you rather lead your team Kevin Durant or LeBron James now, it's unfair to me? This is my opinion, it's unfair that you would that great. It's a great debate barber shop, you know, cookouts all this stuff too old Durant spending. Lebron look what he's done. Well, guess what? He's playing with three or four of future hall of famers, also and before he got an team, they went seven three games, and they wanna championship. So go to New York if you do go to New York after you win the championship this year, take them to the finals win it. And then we can have that debate right now, the Brian James is taken cats. No disrespect to everybody else. He plays with. But he's taken the get along gang in Cleveland. Home Depot, he picks four guys from Home Depot up and he goes to the playoffs. I just don't understand. Why this the comparison at the moment? Do you think the Lakers rosters, even good? I didn't take LeBron out. They lost the Nixon Cavs how good their Oster. I just think that's youth. I don't think it's not. They're not good. I just think they don't know how to win like when I was with the clippers. All right. I got recruited. It's I got a sign with the clippers and you had Elton brand who was twenty and ten in asleep. Corey megacity twenty points a game in his sleep. You had you had a really nuclear a really good team. But they weren't making the playoffs. Fourteen years in a row. I come boom you make the playoffs you add one. But Sam Casella as well. And we teach them how to win we taught them how to win. What does that mean? If it is it on the road, the hotel the locker room. What does that mean? It's just about being a professional you. They've lost the game the year before we Sam and I got to. The clippers in five or six I looked at their roster. And I looked at the games that they've lost. And they were losing games to three possession games where that's mental that judgment. That's bad decisions. It's all it is. So all you have to do is. Now, you correct those little mistakes. And now the doubt in the fourth quarter when you're down a possession of two possessions is different because now you have guys that can hold you down. Okay. Listen, we're not going to do this Corey. We're not gonna do this. We're going to dump it down to L when everybody's spread out. It's more organized. There's there's less doubt for individuals. So when LeBron's court with those younger guys, that's what he's giving them. Now, he's not the twenty eight twenty nine year old abroad anymore. But he knows how to win. And that helps them out just like reserve it to me, very urban is amazing. But guess what? The the Boston Celtics went without you to the finals of an Eastern Conference finals. It's a struggle right now pretty much I need you by yourself to see if you can lead people, and you are you right now your Boston lead them. That's all most guys most guys. That's not. That's not what most players know. It's hard in basketball and also basketball's always been play with your friends. And it's a group thing that most most guys wanna hoop..

'cause it was like majority on the spaceship, actually once we were in. Yeah. Out the alien ship bucket. It was it was a nice. Yes. Yes. That was the beginning. But I will I will say this personally like you say morale was higher my was lower because it was a smaller movie. And I don't I don't think that a sequel should be smaller than the first one is like if you're making a sequel, go get big did they make a joke about that. In twenty two jump street twenty jumps Frey breaks fourth wall very much for that series. And talk about how like, oh, yeah. That's what movie executives want we make this much money with this budget. That's been this much more and make that much more on the sequel. Yeah, it's all about math. You get bigger, right? Yeah. Yeah. That's more. So direction thinking about Gavin and his cinematography brain is. India facing rising pollution levels

"Every foreign posting has its perennial Goto stories the events or us that pop up time and time again over the years, and sometimes correspondent can witness one of these stories emerge and become a regular fixture in the news cycle. Well, ten years ago air pollution in Beijing made headlines, but it wasn't much of an issue in the rapidly growing megacities of India now, that's changed to sausage government action has could tangled toxic emissions in and around. Beijing while New Delhi is choking and pollution levels in northern India now worse than they ever were in China for South Asia correspondent, Chevron he knew it's already becoming a yearly needs story. I had a couple of weeks Christmas live in tropical Queensland and arrived back in Delhi just before the new year in that little gap between the plane and the airbridge it hit me in the face, a big whack of toxic foul tasting air even inside the airport. I could see a poll of yellowish. Gray. Guests feeling the arrival whole arriving in daily and winter is a shock to any visitor unless you used to the feel and taste of putrid, filling your mouth and coating it tongue before you've even hit the streets. The here is the Tory sleep bad all year round. But in winter, it becomes even more toxic as cold air prevents the pollution cloud from rising or being blown away. The official health advice is simply not to go outdoors. This is sadly exactly the story. I told a year ago on correspondence report when I arrived in Delhi to take up my new posting as South Asia correspondent are shocked to discover how bad the air really warrants. And I've no reason to believe the air quality will improve in this country anytime soon, it's that time of the win. Despite what anybody says or does air pollution in the national capital region seems to get worse Norris by no let up this year. It's no different with the education crisis makes headlines here, but that doesn't galvanize public or political will to do something about it late last year, the Lancet medical journal released a report that should have shocked. India into action it found that one point two four million people were killed by air pollution in India in two thousand seventeen that's one out of every eight deaths in the nation. It pollution now causes more deaths than tobacco here and half of those killed under seventy. Eight years old a report from the World Health Organization earlier last year found fourteen of the fifteen most polluted cities in the world are in India. The same report said that air pollution caused the premature deaths of one hundred thousand children in twenty seventeen. Children are one of the groups most at risk and coping mechanisms for parents, abound. Schools ask parents, not to let their children go outside when the pollution reaches hazardous levels. One popular online forum for ex pats living in Delhi illustrates the lengths that foreigners. Ken and do go to to try to keep their children safe. Their posts about karate classes being held at people's houses to ensure kids can socialize and exercise, but without going outside a notice one mum on the forum talking about an indoor rock climbing wall. She had built an installed to keep her children active without exposing them to the toxic air the pollution in. India is even turning the white walls of the iconic Taj Mahal green in the middle of last year in the boiling hate of summer. I watched as dozens of men scaled the partially shut monument to scrub scum off the roof by hand by now, it'll be caked in filth. India's gearing up for national election in April may this year. But pollution doesn't seem to be gaining traction as an election issue. The more valuable votes are in rural areas where pollution is less of a problem and even in Delhi most of the population is poor. So how to feed your family is a more pressing issue than the quality of the air, you breathe. And so once more I switch over the air filters in the great buzzing purifies, I used to keep the office, and my Badri slightly less toxic is a little orange light that flickers day and night, the one that takes the tiniest pollution conference known as pm two point five. They the ones that a tiny than a human hair ones that into the lungs and then the bloodstream and can cause cancer heart and respiratory diseases. The light glows and angry orange because despite pumping and purifying et twenty four seven the machines, cont low of the pm two point five to a safe level. All the privilege and technology in the world confines a pollution problem. It's getting more dangerous by the year this Chevron Hanyu in New Delhi. The correspondence report.

"Basketball's always dream. But for me, I was thinking like a fifty year life plan. So they'll always come back into give back into the president. Whenever I can which we guy, you know, you guys know is difficult during the season is difficult, and you act if in the league as a player, and then a coaches fall seasons twelve years twelve twelve months out of the year, you have to be active. It's not like a player you can leave in the summer. Now that I'm not coaching guys have more of a hand in the community. Just wondering Spar the next group of young young men and young women to say they actually saw me. They connected to me we entered the gym together or enter the preschool that I have there, and we just kind of be present for them to continue to dream. It's all about dreaming. I think you've done a great job of that. And just you know, knowing. Relationship we have in how how you've kinda helped me grow as a player as a person just kind of give me that guy in his when we were planning give me that guidance and feedback now that you're out you're been involved as a coach been involved as a player, you one of the outstanding people who are kind of look forward to having conversations with just because of how insightful you are. So I appreciate that. In just wanted to let you know that I've learned a lot from you in just by your demeanor. How you approach the game in how you're constantly trying to evolve as a person in gain that knowledge, I really appreciate that. If my tire life in Kansas City, I play for a legendary travel team called. You know, made seventy Sixers. We changed the roles and Ayu basketball, you know, to raw Russ Corleones young Kareem rush MAURICE Evans, Corey megacity play for a program. Mike Miller play for a program. So I was very comfortable being like that second third option. The guy that enter take all the credit, but other guys got all the credit, and what I learned from going from there UCLA to the NBA is how to kind of connect personalities and try to bring the best out of everyone around me and carry me throughout my career. It kinda put me in a mindset of coaching 'cause you know, coaching as a player, or as an actual coach you have to enhance the Bility's around you, and you have to be comfortable night getting all the credit, and I think it helped me as got became older player and extend their mockery NBA. So the relationships as mutual as always I love you guys do bigger and better things. Anyway, I can help up always try to implement that will positively Earl take me back. To your high school career because I remember talking to to last he lavon, and he said the first time he saw you play in a you were this undersized skinny little kid, but you were picking up these high prize guards full court, driving them crazy. You're rebounding every ball you were pushing every play. So like where did that style of you know, like that dog mentality? Come from at a young age for mailed if people realize high school, I was a score average twenty four point fourteen rebound, I think nine or eleven and fits my senior year, and my junior was a little bit less. But when I play it on my travel team, I had these six seven six nine top players in the country, and I came into that situation still scoring, but what I realized is the basketball was different at that time than it is now coming in as a point guard at that time you had to make everyone else better in fine. How to get yours in between all of that action. So for me, it was how can I impact the game defense? Wli picking up full court making my teammates better finding housing around rush like the ball and outlet pass. Or is he like late at the rim. Corleones young giving it to him in a post in spy. Nope. Or screening away just giving him space to work and Korean was just the shooter looking for him in transition and that kinda carried to UCLA with baron..

"You just internalize it. That's why I am. That's what I can do. I succeed. Have you remained close with them are owed him. Now we've lost touch years and years ago, but I, you know, off and on, I'll get attacks from him. You know a number chains or my number changes, but not that close obviously, an all time, NBA sort of character in terms of just you don't see guys that tall that can do that stuff. And everyone seemed to love him. Love playing with him. You know, he'd seems to have turned the corner, hopefully that that lasts. But yeah, you cross pass with with all these dudes, man, you, you have like Corey megacity. I mean, say what you want about is game in all that, like he was a beast like you could not keep that guy off the foul on. Let me quickly touch on the Marceau. So the mar, I really think health, Ron our tests in my development into McDonald's all Americans, and we all played on the same age. You team in the mar left and went to a Adidas, the different team. And two, six. Nine grew to six, ten probably just could handle the ball, like it was just so easy for them knew how to pass his knew how to play and like Ron. And ours is like grinders, like I'm undersides big at the time. Iran is just a hawk on defense. And we, we play at like ISE in queens, host city of be there. You'll be packed. And if like Lamar Odom than you know, Erick Barkley was on our team, they played high school ball together in the same team, but we just had to compete. It was just a competitive spirit like he's not going to beat us. We have to find ways to get better. That's what I worked on my jump shot, right. Ron's like, I got him like I'm guarding Lamar and it was a great great thing for competition competitive spirit until we got an MBA same thing. Same same thing. It's just like, I'm I'm with the bulls and I'm rookie in like he has a triple double tonight and through a bounce pass off the backboard through his legs. To Darius for our youth and all this stuff is just like, okay, what would I need to do next week is this competitive spirit. You always, you always have your eye on, you know, as a positive thing, but yeah, yeah. And then Cory Cory is a b, c, still a bee's MVP had a big three. Like I did not know that I am not followed the big for him VP via the big three. They won the championship. I went to scout younger player for the g. league, Corey and cat are both working out harder than all the young cat. You know, mobile mobile working harder than all the young guys there while training, like I mean, preparation, stretching foam, rollers, you look man, big three. You gotta like we don't need any injuries happen in these dudes run in run up and down with hard. I mean, went hard like, and his game translates to today's game. Like is three point shot. He's getting to the whole. He could always draw fouls, Josh. Yeah, I didn't. I almost didn't like watching them play. Because I knew that I'd have to watch like fourteen free throws in again by the way you do, you know how many guys averaged guess how many people were just twenty and ten in the NBA is rookies rookies rookie season twenty and ten. I don't know twenty guys total. I would say sixteen of them are either in the hall of fame or locks to be in the hall of fame. The other ones are Clark. Kellogg surprise me. Sidney wicks. Blake Griffin is going to be an interesting case when he comes up depending on how the rest of his career goes. Do care about the hall of fame you have some of the counting stats? No, I care about it in the fact that honor it and respected in just happy for everyone that gets in in that think is deserved deservingly so that they get in may. I don't have enough wins five got that championship with any team. Then there was big a bigger case. And then like like Christian Leitner for college because it's basketball. It's like he's has to be one of the top. Three collegiate players of all time what he's done..

"Corey megacity leads the NBA the big three in points and assists Corey McGee right now is the best player. He's there. LeBron Corey McGee is there LeBron so he's going to get to the finals and lose keep shot. Okay, so now we have time. So the NBA came out Vegas came out with a twin totals yesterday and I could run through the teams, but you don't care about Sacramento either. So I thought I'm gonna pick six teams give you strong opinions. I gotta give the graphics department credit here. You ever see the movie casino Sam Rothstein. That's my head on Sam Rothstein body. I'm as Rothstein. We're calling it. Collins pick six. So here we go. All right. Let's start with this. Vegas has the Celtics at fifty seven and a half wins to me. That's the best bet on the board bet the over. Listen, Boston's not only getting two stars back Jason Tatum's better. Jalen Brown. They both made big jumps last year, and I think this is a real thing LeBron is out of the east. They'll play with a renewed sense of confidence. Boston knows now this is their conference. I, it's been their conference last couple of years except LeBron he's gone. So they're gonna come in here thumping their chests, and you get to stars back to a very well coached team. And the other thing is Boston now sees themselves with the stars coming back and the development of Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown as a championship level team. They want homecourt advantage in the finals. If they're going to beat the warriors, they're going to need games one and two in Boston and game seven in Boston..

"Megacity was 4 of 24 from the field not looking like himself he literally had to write an exercise bike to try to get his leg feeling better again and you're leaving one of your most productive players sitting on the bench to me those are decisions that directly directly a loss his once dimarco once people start talking about this stuff in a locker room and openly and then openly telling us that they're talking about it you've officially got a story line that needs to be addressed like if it's something that agree and i don't know where you go with it i mean either were really overvaluing his ability or the we just don't see we don't agree with how the lakers feel about him or there is something else working either way it's not going to change his i don't think we let joyce julius randle paul george share the same agent so like the epa the there's a there's a finger yogi berra's i uh you know well there they're not starting in because if the if they keep below nine think it's nine games his qualifying offer is a million dollars lower than what none of that matters all that riley matters for the lakers is his cap hold like how much he costs them while they're trying to get these other free agents because if somebody tries to sign him it's not going to be for the qualifying offer to be for a lot of money they're not screwing around within that way but you know on the other way like the idea that there really going out of their way to make life miserable for him when they do want you know the kind feelings of his agent in the same way that kcp is monnet from heaven because he's rich paul client.
