"Prove to himself and number to prove to the world that he's still here to stay harry without being said about julio jones wide receiver on a new team. Do you think we'll have the biggest impact j. will you. You're gonna make me pick one. I'm gonna pick just picked one here we got to you. Don't pick just one. I saw you when you came into. I take yesterday even say that's cool though we talk about that later after the show got you. I'll say the biggest impact who are instead of picking one. I'm gonna pick to number one. I'm corey davis. I play because davis in tennessee. And i think he's. He's he's at the point now where he's ready to be a great receive it in this lead. You look at mike boorda office. According to they're gonna get them the football i think. Zack wilson corey has this bond. They has this chemistry right now. It's going to get them over the hump number. Two i have is the sean jackson sean jackson going back to play with. Sean mcveigh guy. He was with in washington down enough plays. He's going to be a deep threat. So people do sean jacksonville. We're talking to harry douglas right now. Espn football analyst also former nfl wide receivers host of college game day on espn radio. On sunday primetime on espn radio. He's joining us here on k jay z. This morning i am. she cornet. J. willing keyshawn here with us as well okay. A lot of controversy around what is going on in chicago. We've talked about it ad nauseam. It feels like on the show. But we're going to get your opinion. How do you feel about how matt nagy is handled the bears quarterback situation. And do you agree with him that and should be the starter week. One number one. I do not agree with how the situation right played in this league for ten years and planned initially two years. I think god's job should be earned. Right so andy. Dalton came over and free agency from the cowboys and matt. Nagy just named him starting quarterback as a coach. If i'm a coach that's not the way on. How how i'm gonna handle things i'm gonna give everybody opportunity to earn your job on the football field versus just giving it to somebody who has improved to me especially in the last two years that he should be startled football team. They drafted justin feels overall. We've seen in preseason. Adjacent fields is the best quarterback. He's the guy who could improvise He's the guy at the old line is not what you want it to be. But he's a guy who can actually do some things outside and the pocket when he scrambles when it comes to this football team. Listen they're stack. Defensively and i just don't want them to waste the defenses years right because everyone has a window. I don't want that window to close on the beers because a decision at quarterback so who should be starting quarterback with these other teams of forty niners in who should be. Who should be the starting quarterbacks with those two teams for me new. England patriots meg jones. Like what. I've seen for mag jones. He's done a great job in preseason. He's going to do one thing and bill belichick doesn't want you to do he. He's not gonna turn the football over right. he's gonna take care of the football. But when i looked them in a pocket he looks comfortable. He looks like he's he's got this offense and control I can tell the football you look at them. Standing in the pocket right now delivering the strike. We call that a win out. You go up about eighteen twenty yards and you stop on the two yards outside the hash. But he's just fluent with everything he's smart he played we'll Play with nick. sabin down alabama. So we know what he brings to the table and ball placement places the ball in areas where it can be protected as well. And we've seen a titanic see tobacco tight in keyshawn. I know you like that when when when his presents itself hurry hard. I'll say for forty niners. I'm gonna go with the forty niners. Y'all i've always been. How trae lance i just think he adds a dimension to the game. That jimmy garoppolo doesn't right. I think he's a guy who can get them over the hump. I think he's a guy who's athletic in a reason. Why john lynch and cow shanahan moved up early to get a guy who is dual threat. Keep it real real with me on this one. What are your expectations for cowboys man. A lot of you'll say all. I want to see them win the division but the talent speaks like they should win the super bowl. Doesn't it i'll say division number one. I think they can win the division and then i think they can win a playoff game or to write anything other than that. I don't i don't think they can do because it's still questions. Defensively and for dan quinn taken over that defense. If he's learned from his mistakes in atlanta in doesn't have to be good he just has to be decent. Right edifice just has to be decent. If they're decent offense is going to do the risks. So i'll say when a playoff game or to not super bowl cam playoff game or two though is definitely an improvement that for for the dallas cowboys. That for sure harry douglas. Thanks so much for the insight. This morning we appreciate it no problem. Thank y'all okay corey. i'm sorry. Harry mentioned corey davidson there and keyshawn. I saw you kind of stern wanted to say something about it. So what we're gonna do is we're going to dive into the receivers that are perhaps joining new teams and what kind of impacts they can make he knows a thing or two about receivers right. We'll do that next right here. On keyshawn.

"Okay i said this from the start. And i believe this that mack jones is a better fit for bill belichick long-term than cabinet. There's no question about this and bell. Check is never wanted his quarterback because it wasn't brady's way to be a showman on the field. I loved to watch cam. But but i loved him in his. Mvp year at carolina. When some people didn't it was just. He's highly entertaining right. Well that's not the business. That bell checks jerry. Jones is in. That is right. Cam would be great for jerry jones. He he would get a kick out of them all of the above. But in this case. I just don't know how long that's gonna fly right. So if if it's fifty fifty. I say the nods going to the kid but to your point you you have to be sure that the kid can take you a little higher this year than cam especially at the start at the start of the season. 'cause last thanksgiving to do get to get off to a shaky start and find yourself fighting. An uphill battle is either a lot easier to make the playoffs. Give when you're probably three in one three to four one four two as opposed to vice versa. Because now you got to go just to get to five hundred. That's why such an advantage. That's why when teams dr owen. To how hard. It is skill for you to make the playoff because now you got to go to rhino just to get the five hundred and basically a quarter of the season's already gone so the question is the coach. Jake is matt jones substantially is he head and shoulders above cam. Do you believe the first quarter of the season. your record would be better with matt. Jones and cam newton. Because if you can't answer. Yes well i think you go with cam you as a yes. I believe that the quarto. If i start meg jones my record would be equal to or better than we can't will match. Okay what sticking and bell checks crawl right now is..

"Rookie mack jones. Taking advantage of every opportunity especially with him. Newton sitting out of practice for the third straight day yesterday due to those cove in nineteen protocols. Jones won wednesday's practice with the giants going thirty five or forty in the practice in eleven and eleven and also seven on seven drills at one point he completed eighteen straight isis. Not too shabby cam newton. We'll be back at practice today so we also have marcus spears also still in the house with us. But sam. let's start with you. Is the patriots quarterback competition more about cam newton or is it more about mack jones. Oh this is one hundred percent more about cam. Newton his dominance this preseason so think about it like everyone thinks that this was supposed to be mac job a long long time ago first round pick. He looks good at every turn. Eighteen straighten eighteenth straight completions thirty five or forty year. For whatever reason today's today's practice just started and cam. Newton has the rest of the ones right for whatever reason after that first phenomenal preseason game that we saw that jones. Do cam new. One up didn't win. Eight for nine hundred yards and a touchdown in the second preseason game every single time that matt has tried to push cam newton cam. Newton has only gotten better. And so for me. And i think for anyone who's watching or listening cam. Newton has shown why competition matters. It makes everyone better but it doesn't just because you miss a couple of days. People said oh. We miss a couple of days. Jones look great. That doesn't matter. Cam is the starter canvas. Shoney's a starter until cam gives it away. He's not going to lose that. Starting spot. charlie. Who's the quarterback competition about more about cam newton or mack jones about meg jones guys and it became about meg jones when he was the fifteenth overall pick. That's when it started now. I'm with you out. So i think we should start like i'm not. That's not what the question is. The question is who is this about this about jones because everytime make jones completes the pairs there is nine thousand articles written about the quarterback and with the new england patriots and look cam knows and understands that he is. He is auditioning for other teams. That's going to be looking for the services of a starting quarterback next year. I firmly believe that. And that's not an indictment no cam that's just where the patriots are going to go in there future. It's the first office of draft pick in the last. I don't know how low but they win. They took a quarterback that fit their scheme and their emo- perfectly. And this is what. I was talking about brought to the draft when everybody was screaming about mick jones going to san francisco and i said no. I'm gonna pause on that. Because i don't see top three talent imag jones but if you get him at fifteen and he turns out to perform like he did at alabama. You got a great draft. Pick for years to come. And i believe that's what the new england patriots have. This is about meg jones maturation. That doesn't mean that cam. Newton won't start and that doesn't mean camp won't play well throughout the race of season. But i'm telling you right now. The first sign of trouble the new england patriots at their quarterback spot based on everything. They did this. All season is going to quickly become about jones playing but right now it's about meg jones development match maturation and the things that he's been doing this show them and validate them taking them fifteenth wrong. Now all of that being safe cam. Newton is doing fine cam. Newton is play whale. He's answered the questions that you need to answer an off-season of to this being an unfortunate situation misunderstanding about cam having to miss those days of practice but those days of practice madder jones wail and that will be a part of the decision making process if anything goes awry we cam newton but this dhanjal who mag jones. I'm glad we're all in agreement that week one. We should see cam on the field. But marcus let me ask you. You said i signed trouble. Where's mac john's going to be playing next year. He'll be new england. Okay where's cam. Newton going to be playing next year. I have no idea exactly exactly. Because i think that's the point because right now mack jones kit right now. We think cam newton so far has been that guy. Sam laid it out like mike reese. Great mike reese tweeden early highlights from practice cam. Newton leads off the first red zone. Seven seven zero two for three with the best ball of bullet in the end zone. You think cam newton okay. I was away but no no. No no no sit. Move out move aside. We'll decide. I'm coming back. You know like right. Now we've seen is that dude but unique cam to you talked about first sign of trouble so it is camps job in your mind right now while mac is develop you so so the question for what what is gonna do what. How does he performing practices. How does he make the choices very difficult for or actually make it really easy for ballot. Check and say okay. We're going to go with the veteran because he has time in the system. He is healthy right. Now we have a better roster. I spent all that money in the in the off season. I'm not trying to go seven and ten this year. You know like it's about can what he's able to do when he falters. That will see mack jones. Like i feel like it when we see mack. Jones is dependent on cam. And that's why to me is the answer. This is about camp. i hear you. I hear you breathing mark. I hear you assign no. Because because i got i got to bring this up okay. Last year i remember when remember going through the season last year and the whole question was when is jerry steadham. Getting because cam is struggling. That was that was the conversation now was revolving around the entire. Nfl then moment it became about stood. Y'all we'll watching a quarterback competition right now and even though we all are in agreement. That cam has nothing to relinquish it. Matt jones is the damn thing to make tight. That's why this is about this. Competition is about mack. Jones showing the new england patriots. That i don't know if he. I don't know if they're going to make a decision to start week one but he's done enough to show the patriots that hey i'm over here i'm ready. I've grasped the system just in case cam. Newton struggles like he did last year. So look i get like the competition honestly to answer the question. It's about both of these guys but the guy that had the most the game in the least to lose is who the comp the competition is about and that is mack jones because to the point again when you draft fifteenth overall and we know now we have enough oversample size. The know that bill to has an affinity for cam newton. I think bill belichick wants to see cam. Newton succeed like a lot of people that work for cam newton. It's on don't but the bottom line is you still had to go out and take a guy that you thought would carry your team into the future and that is mack jones and even in the draft. You could pull the tape prior to. I said if matt jones makes it to new england this is a match made in heaven and obviously the correlation between nick sabin and bill check the type of system is scheme that they run is conducive to mac having success but now make his proved that i can have success which all have set up here now. It's about cam holding him off. This competition was about meg jones in seeing. Not only if you draft the right guy but if you had a guy just in case km store tripping you didn't isa they didn't have to sign cam. Newton cam newton.

"We're going that simple notion from bill. Shannon japan advantages back. Joe's get with yesterday's practice in today's joint practice against the giants. Good thing was the craft doesn't play coach pay coach bill. Take by the word with la out of money. He does very little. Talking is a big advantage because the thing is camps to starter. Now i can only base it. Oh how did how. John got starting rippling. We're in denver. John john elway emma. Ten most people do ten to ten play periods. Yeah john gay plays so that means cam newton's getting somewhere between seven and eight jones getting to agree now. All of a sudden jones getting seventy eight plays in the backup is getting to and so. I'm not saying that. This is going to lead to matt jones. Starting but i think it leads to coach check feeling comfortable. If cam struggles going to mack. Jones probably earlier knowing that he's got these reps under his belt more so probably quicker than he normally would have. And that's what happened. The greatest story in football's happened. Because what tom brady. Drew bledsoe got hurt. Tom brady get in there. And even when dr drew bledsoe guy healthy he'd never ever ever ever got that job bad and that was the greatest decision. Bill belichick made in. That was a tough one because he was the incumbent. And you you're not supposed to lose your job because of injury drew bliss. Who had taken the team to a super bowl. Had a year to remove from getting a hundred million dollar contract and coach. Belichick says i don't give a button. I believe this guy gives us a better chance and they never looked back. So this why you kill scale what why you. Tom take autumn rails. Why you'd say peyton manning took all those ripped we'd never knew what peyton manning back could do because he took the ball game. I never even knew who the backup exactly. And that's what they want to do. I don't want you to get any looks if you take a look at him. Yeah he's going to be doing scout team. Camp put himself in the situation and it seems to me. We don't care where the protocol says unvaccinated players that they leave the thai protocols that they got to go through when they come back. So it's telling me he's having to go through these protocols even fascinated but he put himself in this situation. That code you bella chick and the coaching staff gets a long look at mack jones. He said himself porpoise this. I'm not saying skip is going to lead them starting week one but what i will say what i what i do believe is that this gives coach belichick a little a greater comfort level of going jones probably earlier that he probably would knowing he's getting beef kinds of quality ribs. Okay this date. I have told you from the start about a guy that you love going into the draft. Even more than i did yes that i believe in bella checks heart of hearts sooner than later. He wants to go forward with mack jones. I'll agree with that guy. It's coach saban. It's their connection there like minded. They're sort of two peas in the same pod. Saving endorsed this kid. Even though right patriots snatched him all the way down at fifteen. I think bill still feels like this was the diamond in the rough. That brady was in the six round that that mack jones should've gone up at the top of the draft and he fell fifteen big slots which is the equivalent in br- in bell checks. Mind brady falling to around remember. Skip the forty nine before they had that second. Look at trae head. Meg meg jones going to take sitting right on top all along. It wasn't until very late in the process that there started to be a speculate roy. A second what about the north dakota state right right okay. Because of that. I believe that cam. Unfortunately i am a cam. Fan and cameron have been from pre. Drafting i'm afraid. He just gave bell check the excuse he needed and mack jones the opportunity he needed because bell check is old old old school coaching. He believes that practice really count loose. Show him in practice. It it actually count to him. Yes it matters yes. We're you could win a job by showing me in practice or losing jobs or lose a job and they got another practice session and this one's on a higher level starting today against the giants a joint practice so he's going to get to go against an opposing defense will run some new looks at him. They won't hit him because you can't hit in the joint practice but watch jones get extended time in the sunday. Final preseason game because this is a big deal for bell. Check to to pull the plug on cam and go forward mac joan right but it just feels like it's heading in that direction so this is this is just a practice. But i'm reading the usa today story this morning very early about his performance yesterday in practice. Big deal maybe to bella shack right because yesterday mack jones went thirty of thirty eight. He did throw two picks. But he's going against the the guys who picked it devin mccourty and jc. Jackson are really good at what they do with. Who were the best at what they illegal. Msf she's land okay so we got picked twice but near the practice he twice drove. His offense like eighty are drives for two touchdowns that prompted check to make the defensive players drop induce sets up push ups because that was their their so that they had to pay okay so he did that in. I'm i'm guessing that resonated with cordell check and then i'm reading quotes from yesterday from one matthew slater. Who is the longest tenured patriot. He's he's the most respected veteran. He is the captain of this team when he speaks my ears go wide open right and he was talking about mack jones saying his family should be proud of the way they raised him in the way he carries himself the way that he commands respect of even guys like myself older guys that have been here for a while and he concludes. He's earned that respect by the way he's gone about his craft so he's been a joy to work with says matthew slater of a rookie quarterback challenging cam newton who is a former. Mvp this league. Those words resonated to me. And i believe they will resonate to bill belichick so all of a sudden i sit back in. I'm going to stay this again. Cam has his reasons for not getting vaccinated their personal reasons. I don't know exactly what they are. But i do. Respect his right as an american to have that choice made that direction but if he's just at home living by himself that's fine right but he works under bill check for the new england patriots in a team concept. You you cannot do anything but maximize your chances to make the team better. And you're you're especially vicious killed. The you make it really really hard. 'cause that's the guy that's the guy you are the face franchisee. You're the leader. Just by position of this franchise. I think skip the thing that what it does. Is that when you take the lion's share of the rips. you don't have to press because skip. If i'm only get in rips. I need to show in one of those two rifts. I need to show coach. Bela check something. So i'm gonna press. I'm going to probably try to make throw that. I shouldn't make. But i gotta believe in the imprint. Owed him now that. I'm taking seven eight of those rips. Now i can relax. Olympic game. Clock comes to me. I let it blow so after i slept on it. It hit me even harder cam. Newton got rocked iraq by covert last year and it. It ruined his season so he you soon as somebody my age demographic and.

"At it from an offensive perspective zach hurts nelson. Aguilar alshon jeffery torrey smith. Trey burton sounds a lot like johnny smith. Hunter henry nelson aguilar sounds very similar bucky brooks. So i'm not just going to sit here and say that the patriots don't have enough talent at the white house position thus it has to be cam newton because we've seen skill sets that are comparable outside when super bowls with different types of playmakers at. Qb man my boy over here cooking these books. I met at them either one. I'm not getting anything out of this. Preseason i don't know why we keep putting so much onus on this preseason it's fake football only real to those who are either gonna work in fedex or be on the bench. It ain't real to anybody else going to be a bona fide starter. Like cam newton. Oh bill belichick already said that cam newton start well. Let's have some fun with this. Because i wanna take you into the mentality of a preseason football game okay you know what the thinking in priority one. I gotta do my assignment to stay healthy now. Know what happens in week one sudden. You ain't even thinking about that. You got a ball out and we got to win this game. That is completely different in my said of yesterday. But they still on feel cam newton meg jones so i get it. I'm encouraged by cam. Newton's preseason star just because he didn't mess it up now what was positive about it now. I play fifty four yard drive and go. What will help his cause since. We are trying to make this a quarterback competition even though bill city cam newton starter is the fact diplomatic. Jones went out there and at three drives just ended in punts and two will fill us. Great yeah but he went eight for nine on a drive that not a pass over ten yards so we keep tamar. Deacon duct is his first gain. Y'all i don't want to do is to the young rookie was also gotta know his place or those who are supporting him have to know his place. This is a team that has run centric. This is a team that has to give off the complexion that we're going to run football because that's the strength of his team. They're run blocking their office. A up front cam newton as a playmaker. They don't have the outside presence to go out there and say we're going to mac jones at his trip which is throwing the ball from the pocket. This team was in contention in four games. They lost and one sen gays with nothing to outside last year. So they're going to run it back with cam. Newton jones is gonna learn from that experience and be better for them in the future. Okay so. I'm glad i got another chance. Because ultra has me thinking that nelson agla evidently step on digs in jefferson and all those other guy. So what i did is. They had to look at the stats. And he doesn't have a thousand yard season in his career. But i still say that with a inexperienced. Evidently you get better. But i haven't necessarily seen that for nelson except the one year that he had lost beggars. Derek car maybe throwing the ball. I okay so i'll give negli- is pilot number. Two three jonah smith has never been to a pro bowl when you talk about those leading those teams. Those guys were dominant tied in gadget. Commended double team. So now. When you have two guys covering the tide in those other guys facing on cover it is easier for them to play. When i look at the patriot. I don't see that. And so because i don't see that i'm seeing them more now. Needs to be on the quarterback to be able to get it done and make no mistake about it cam. Newton scored twelve touchdowns on the ground and they runner last year using the added dimension. And let's be real about mack jones when you go back and look at the vignette that we see with jones. It was a lot of isolation rouse meaning the quarterback look to the side. He's the one guy throws it one guy. If they guys didn't open he eats it. The guy was opened last night the underneath road where he hit on check down those things nothing complex and complicated about what he did in the scheme but understand as we begin to steep more complex defense is the covers changing. They're going to need their quarterback to be more of the superhero. Then just the game manager. I don't know if maggie jones has that in his bag to be more than just a guy that's the distributor. He is a pass first point guard. He's not a guy going to get a bucket and for the patriots. Any guys who can go and get the bucket. That's why cam newton going to be. The starting quarterback here is where i disagree. I disagree this. I'm bringing up a super bowl. Blueprint a super bowl. Blueprint that is comparable to the patriots roster. I'm looking at an eagles team that won a super bowl against the patriots team. Bill attack on the sideline for that game. I was close. I was in the stands but he had a much better view. Than even i had and bill belichick saw an eagles team that had a dominant tight end and another tight end and trey burton. Who was a kind of gadget guy. And was a high quality player. They saw team that had nelson agla on the outside and had another receiver. Alshon jeffery on the outside and of torrey smith so belichick is like wait. I've lost a super bowl to a team that has two tight ends have the speedster at receiver and has competent other receivers on the outside. No stuff on digs. No michael thomas's no old outback comes in his prime. No worldbeaters just competent talent guys. That can run the foot running back around the football and receivers that can cast a football. That's the roster. Bella checks built so now. Come and tell me that this roster doesn't have enough playmakers 'cause bella tech lost a super bowl to a roster offensively that was eerily comparable. So don't try now to say nelson can't get the job done because nelson was the second best receiver best wide receiver second receiver when you count. Zachert says the first on the eagles super bowl winning teams statistically. So don't try to convince me that ain't got enough because bella check lost to a team that has built the same way offensively. His team is built. They have a gadget running back. James white the eagles hat couple of gadget running back staring spells ended up getting hurt. They still had corps command. If i'm not mistaken. The eagles had a bruising running back. They had gear blunt in that super bowl. If i'm not mistaken. The patriots have their bruising. Running back and damian harris. The eagles had a moderately good off into bind but remember their offense bombing got hurt and jason peters during the season the patriots have a good offensive line though bella check loss to a blueprint. He's now recreated. The differences can cam to have his nick foles moment or regular season. Have his carson wentz moment. I do not think that that is the case. If that is the case the patriots can be a super bowl contending team so bill belichick didn't have to look at your philadelphia eagles to see the blueprint because blueprint that he had previously as he's won all those who was very very similar all the way back to the early two thousand. We had david given and david patten and troy brown and then he just had a couple of guys. Derek graham and those guys playing tied in he was able to do it with tom. Brady and we're not talking about super bowl. Mvp or mvp. Winning tom brady. We're talking about tom brady. That was the game manager but the difference was the defense played at a high level. So we can't just take this offense and say oh. This is enough in. The quarterback has enough to be able to get it done. Yes cam newton can get it done because the lesser of the talent on the outside more talented quarterback these to be apparent in a quarterback competition. I'm looking at cam newton. I'm looking at mag joe. And if we're picking quarterback in the backyard based on dallas scam newness far superior as a talent the mag joe and the only way the pages will go to the super bowl with mag gel is mag. Jones is distributing and their defense is playing at a high level right. Now we haven't seen enough from the deepest and know if you can get away with playing with a game manage a quarterback and letting the other parts of the team dropped the buck. Yes fair to cam. Newton apparent last year's cam newton without all these playmakers to this year with the new playmakers in mind and projection. But he hasn't played with them yet. But we're going to give all of that credit to mag jones of what he could do them not will cam. Newton could do with.

"And so what made me think of is when you give a top five grade in your mind. You should be able to envision this player not only being maybe the best player this position in the league in a relative short time but this guy should be able to be projected to be like an all timer right and all the time great and so. If i use that born at used as standard to do these quarterbacks. I would have a hard time saying that. I can envision mag jones being all time great and so. I'm going to stay to the standard which is same standard. We will use in the draft room. Because i think we pull it out this grading sheets from the baltimore ravens in the carolina panthers in seattle seahawks respectively. Those grades when you talk about issuing out that eight. Oh grade to reggie bush. John hall of fame potential perennial all pro hall of fame type. One of the best. We've ever seen at the thing would. That's the standard for top five great. If this person doesn't exhibit those qualities from a trade standpoint or production or performance standpoint hard to do it so my thing is staying true to degrade insistent that i know man. It'd be hard for me to eight. Meg jones in off regards how much i needed a quarterback or not a couple thoughts on that and again. I was wanna preface by saying we both think mack jones is a good player and provided. Look if he goes to san francisco. He fits what they do. He'll he'll be good player. There are thing is are you maximizing the value of your pick to get the best option. Not not just a good option. I come back to that. Little phrase used. Iron man thing. And i i've been really can hone in on acceptable versus exception like acceptable player. Yes start win games shoot. You might win. The super bowl of the rest of your team is so good. But i don't see exceptional now look is trey lance there right now or just feel to. We've both advocated for both of those players We would both take. We both have them stack. You have fields have land but we both have those both of those guys over mac and so buck i just i put like this and you can probably do the same exact exercise with justin. I feel like everything. Mac can do. And then i look at trae. Lance i said okay. The only thing. That trade doesn't have the mac has right now is probably the accuracy to that degree. Which which i think he processes just as fast. I think he sees the field. He makes good good or better decisions than him. He's bigger and then you get. He's bigger he stronger. He adds whole element with his running ability. They're both off. The charts in terms of character and leadership and work at like the only area is accuracy often going okay. Well i've seen it with josh allen. We just saw. I've seen him make gains. So i think trade trailers is going to do everything mack jones can do and then plus more. There's no way like mac jones. I like tree chances at getting more accurate than mac. Jones's chances of being able to get bigger and move around like trae lance those. That's not happening. So that's why i'm just left with like i can. I've got a guy who can do everything the other guy can do plus xyz. That's why that's why advocating for trae lance there and i would advocate persistent fields in the same breath so take justin feels off the table. And we're just keep the conversation on trae last. Because when i look trae lance. Here's what i think is important..

"There's not enough time in the day to talk about the guy that i actually would put third and that's trae lance now. I wouldn't put them there to play it right away. There is definitely a rep experience issued that the gap needs to be filled if you draft this young. Many's by the majority of your preseason snaps this year and probably next year you need a year. One plan probably not to put him on the field. Because he has limited rats high school he was not a high volume thrower. He ran kind of a version of the wing. Tea is north dakota state. A dozen get a ton of starts over his career So you got to build that rep powder but if you wanna talk about shoes personality toughness. It's a cert. I've had him in my office. In here in nashville. I spent the summer with them at leader as a counselor. Here's a kid halloween for the game. Those of you. That don't know anything about north dakota state. Offense of football is as complex as the nfl. They multiple personnel groupings multiple shifts emotions tons a run checks on checks within run checks. Reads are peos. Endless amounts of of information that he had to digest every week. He was a kid that went all their coaches meetings so he acted as a coach even as a young player in college. He's a sponge. he's a break for the game. Football junkie so you add that with all the physical traits and if you went back fifteen years old school evaluation he could be the first pick of the draft cause you drafted off stature traits and how smart they were. It was pretty. That is pretty much that simple you. You would just chalk him up. Because he's as physically gifted as any of them his stature as big as the strongest arm of the group that could add the context of. He's as good. A learner is good as teammate. Go as anybody in the draft. You know go final. Think jones because we were around mag jones a little bit doing the process. You know about meg jones and the success. Are you surprised. By the success. That he's been able to have his final season alabama. I'm really not one because you know i. I've always says quarterbacks is that as dependent of position as anybody as any position sport. Yes it's important. Yes it's impactful but it's also very dependent so he's has a lot of good players around him to help him. Look good and i thought sark didn't incredible job of evolving. The offense around his skill set allowed him to do more where he could throw the ball on time he can play within the structure. The offense niki use his brain to get advantageous match. And one of the great things. Ballot obama's offense. This year is how how matt jones ran the show. He processed location and small amounts of time was able to find their match ups that created the biggest disadvantages for him. He was highly precise is a thrower. He's got very good. Throwing talent he wear he lacks is the ability to play second reaction football. So if you're drafting him you need to draft him to a situation where you're going to be more of an operator. You're going to operate the offense. You're going to have a lot of keys. The line of scrimmage to get into the best plays. He's as good as athlete peyton manning. he's as good as athlete. Is tom brady He needs to play that style of offense if he is if. That's your plan for him. Then he's a first round pick 'cause he has first round mental traits and throwing traits. But if you're gonna ask him to do something that he can't do well then you're making a mistake. So this is one of those drafts. Where the gm head coach coordinator all have to be some product on. You're going to ask him to do if you put him..

I found out a week later that Meg was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and make Jones died yesterday at the age of 58. Meg Jones. Unflappable on deadline fearless in the field. Voracious curiosity. Loud and boisterous laugh. Always paid attention to everybody else. Journal Sentinel Education reporter device, Shastri said this Meg made everyone around her feel scene and valued when she'd come into work at the start of her shift. She'd always take the time to say hi to everyone who sat near her by name one by one every day. That just hit me. Every day you come into work. Say hi to everybody by their name Individually as how are you doing? How are you doing? That was Meg. Really got to know. Megan 2003. I was getting ready to go to Iraq. I was going to be embedded with the military unit during the Iraq war. Meg had already been to Iraq and Meg was coming back getting ready Go to Afghanistan. She would make eight trips to Iraq and Afghanistan. Meg. As I was talking to her, and she's giving me advice on what to expect and how to handle things and so on and so forth. Told me that she was a little nervous because she didn't think her insurance coverage would be ineffective. She went into the war zone in Afghanistan. And I said, Well, man, that's going to stink if you can't go She said. Well, I'm going And I said, What about the insurance? And she said, I promised those men and women and their families who have been training with for six months that I would tell their stories that I would be their lifeline back home. So I'm going And I was stunned. I said you sure? And she said, I have to. It's my duty and she would use the word duty to tell their stories. And so she went. And I don't know if she got the insurance worked out or not, but she was going whether she got the insurance worked out or not, through the years make focused on stories of veterans who served in many, many wars. I loved on a stars and stripes on her flight, watching Meg interact with our veterans the way she looked them in the eye the way she talked to them, but most importantly, the way that Meg Jones listened. She was a listener. I'm not always is good at listening As I wish I were And when I'm around somebody like Meg Jones I learned how to listen. I learned how to be present. I learned how to be there. And now she's not here anymore. I'm gonna miss Reading her work. I'm gonna miss the journey's. She took us on. I'm gonna miss those stories she spun. I'm gonna miss reading the interviews. She did. But most of all, I'm gonna miss my friend, the one with the loud laugh and the big smile. And I'm gonna miss the way she listened. She always listened, and I'm sure right now she's getting the biggest salute from all those veterans. She's walking through her own silent salute in heaven. Chris Doering talks Florida and Georgia
"We welcome in chris during Who gives us her. Quite a look ahead to tomorrow's game. Chris in most years florida hosting lsu of the sec this week. It's been pretty quiet. I am curious as you know those two teams so well especially from florida side What what are they thinking as they get one of their bitter rivals in a bitter rival that they are a prohibitive favorite. It is weird. Isn't it paula. Me and thinking back to win. This game was originally scheduled. I thought most lsu people felt like we're gonna get a chance to play later in the year we'll get healthier. We'll get miles brennan back. We'll be in better position. And i would argue that. They're actually in a worse position now than when they were originally scheduled in october. So i it's kind of a weird dynamic with a lotta florida. Fans looking forward to sec. Championship game next weekend for me. This is all about. Florida has nothing to do with their opponent. Lsu it's about getting right offensively full full-fledged dress rehearsal right costumes everything. Let's go for what we're gonna do next week. I i honestly been kind of disappointed with florida's offensive performance. The last three weeks dating back to the vanderbilt came. Because they just look inconsistent. They look like they walk through a haze periods of time. They look like they're not executing and part of it's their own fault for looking so good against arkansas in the second half and missouri against georgia. We set the bar pretty high for them but focused level has not been there for a full sixty minutes. I want to see all fence. Get back to executing at the level. They were early in the year defensively. Let's get some things shored up. Let's figure out how to keep from giving up these long passing plays. Let's get generate some more pressure on the quarterback. Let's be able to to penetrate and stop the run something. I thought they did. Well against tennessee last week but The thing i'm gonna keep my paul. What are the numbers for. Kyle trask because obviously this is a game as you said against a A bitter rival one. That beat florida by fourteen. Last year florida's got a chance to return the favor but they also have a chance to outduel in back to back weeks what mack jones get did against the very same defense. And don't think that winning the heisman trophy is not something that dan mullen really wants. For contrast and something that will help his program significantly going forward in on that subject. How do you compare. Kyle trash to meg jones. And that's really his main competition now and that we know we know what had next two weeks especially next week but what what what what separates college trask. If anything well first of all. I love both of these guys you know as a former receiver. I love the the accuracy. I love the the the way they re defenses and get the ball to the right guy. On what the defense is dictating But i would go back and say kyle. Traffic is probably had a tougher. Time than what mack jones at and. That's not taking anything away. From mac ios but look at how. Good this offense of line is for alabama. Look at how well they've run the football over the last six games or so look at what. Najji harris has done. Devante smith the reason why iraq jones's numbers look so good on the deep passes over twenty yards and no disrespect. Mac has been really accurate. But when you're throwing a guy that's five yards behind the nearest defender. It makes it a little bit easier. So again i think without the run game florida certainly not able to run the football very well. I don't think they're offensive. Line is the most consistent So i think the load that kyle. Trask bears a little bit harder to to carry them. What jones does now with that being said. Look at the weapons of florida has i. I don't think i've ever been able to say at least in recent years. That florida has more receiving weapons around their quarterback than what alabama does. They've been absolutely loaded but Looking at the way that that not only kind of is utilized trayvon. Grimes justin shorter. All those receivers. Jacob copeland has come on as well Forgetting about tony. Who might be one of the biggest Factor mismatch guys in the sec. Right now but the way. They use the running backs as well. That was something that we saw against georgia so a lot of different guys. That are helping. Kyle trask out. But i think with the advantage that alabama has on the offensive line and that run game to complement the throws down the field. I think kyle may have a little bit more of a impressive Season just because of how much he's had to do himself chris. Couple of games. I want to ask you about one. Particular auburn at mississippi state mississippi state has been up and down we. We've been through that conversation. But i'm really curious about auburn. Because they've had some really good moments this year and then some clunkers especially lately. I know what you're doing here paul. You love it. When i go off on auburn and it's been up and down year with them right early in the season. I was really down on him. I was starting to get A little bit more positive with the way they were able to run the run the football figuring out who they were with take bixby and that offensive line and then they got hit with a bunch of injuries up front Bixby was was banged up.

You know, Doctor. I'm watching all the networks MSNBC. Okay, we'll surprise me now. It's not like that on Fox, of course, and they barely. Even they actually doing what I think most that more should be doing like. Is there a DNC going on this week? I think that's foxes. Kind of take on it. It's just interesting. You will notice. Can I say this? Do they actually care about Wisconsin? They really care about the state of Wisconsin, in which way That they need to win the state of Wisconsin. Did they really care about this doesn't seem like it doesn't seem like I have Democratic friends were saying I can't believe this stuff scrubbing the logo taking, you know, taking these little eye, so I didn't stories this morning. I said Good morning show. I'm the logo thing. So they took the Wisconsin shape Ottavio or that you're going on there. Honestly, be honest. Does that really matter? No, of course not. And you know, here's the dirty little secret. Maybe not so secret anymore. There's a lot less people watching this virtual convention. I honestly think 90% of the state doesn't care. I probably even more than that doesn't does not care and doesn't matter, But it's on a political thing. It's not. It's not about ideology. It's about just you know what it's August It's summer. You think if I turned on the TV Eagle River on a Tuesday night any those channels You know, it's it's available up there any channels watching pickle here over the course of the last two days, and they're playing a team and the Pirates who have been pretty much the worst team in baseball seas along and the Brewers have got beat pretty good over the course of the last couple days, and it's just It's not a great place to be and From a record standpoint, the Brewers are 11 and 14 there three games below 500. That's not the place that you want to be there still very much in playoff contention, especially with the extended or I should say the expanded playoff this year where you're gonna have eight teams, making it from each from each league. Yeah, That kind of creates an interesting scenario for David Stern's because What do you really What do you do here? Do you go for it? Do you hold back? Do you sell? There's just It's It's not an easy thing to figure out when you're playing a 60 game season and you're coming up on the halfway point. But you're not even a month into the season is just such a weird dynamic. I think all of us, I think whether you're Great council and knowing how to manage the team. Whether you're David Stern's in how you general manage the team, whether you're me and how you talk about the team and how you evaluate the team and any media personality for that matter that that's job is connected to being able to evaluate team. We're all still just trying Teo to figure out How in the world Tio Teo evaluate what is going on? Okay. Got a little bit of an update for you. The tarp is being pulled in Pittsburgh. The expected start. Time is to 10 Eastern, So that would be 1 10. Central 1 10 Central, So we're about a half hour from getting things started again. We're going to a check back in with Jeff Lovering and Lang Grendel. They're not in Pittsburgh. They're at Miller Park. That's one of the I think. Just kind of a knob survey shin on my part. I think the broadcasters both from a radio standpoint with what you're listening to, and from a TV standpoint as well. I think the broadcasters have done just absolutely fantastic job of handling broadcasting games remotely off a monitor the way it's being done this season for road games. But quite honestly and on a day like this, this is where it's more challenging, and this is where it's a struggle, because when you're those guys, you're not sitting there inside a PNC Park able to talk to anybody able to find out what the latest is able to observe what's going on for yourself. You're just kind of stuck looking at a monitor, but, yeah, they've done a great job this year in terms of being able to Broadcast games. And when you're watching on TV clearly you can tell it's different because there's no fans and stands. But when you're listening on the radio and with the piped in crowd noise, it's ah, it's It's tough to actually be able to tell that they're not actually at.

"The ground somewhere around the world you can count on Meg Jones the outstanding reporter at the Milwaukee journal Sentinel to be they're bringing their stories back and my friend make joins us in the studio it's always so good to see you make it to see you John and found out that I know that you're back here things are good yes okay you've been to a rack for times you've been Afghanistan four times this was a trip to Ukraine which of our boys and girls over in Ukraine so there's a it was a group of a hundred and sixty four Wisconsin National Guard soldiers there from headquarters company that's based out of camp Douglas but he also brought in people from other other units it's skewed mostly senior NCOs and senior officers because what they're doing is they're at a combat training center in western Ukraine and their mentoring Ukrainian military trainers who are and basically helping troops therefore the only active war in Europe at the moment so you were there they were there on the day that the U. S. Senate acquitted the president in his impeachment trial that was related to what did or didn't happen in Ukraine what was that like well that's one of the main reasons why I wanted to go to Ukraine was because few people even heard of Ukraine or knew of Ukraine before the whole in each meant hearings that became part of you know of the of what was going on in America but here was a hundred and sixty four with cats SO guard troops that were kind of it at the heart of that because part of that three hundred ninety one million dollars that was at issue is being spent on this combat training center in western Ukraine and that's where all these troops are they're serving out a one year deployment their boots on the ground will be about nine or ten months or so but but you know I asked everybody that I was there with I've you see I wanted to know what they were doing what they were you know kind of they could explain what their their task was but I also asked him about the the impeachment and they're like you know we know what's going on in and we follow what's going on back at home but we're very busy work where we had our eyes we have to concentrate on what's going on here so it doesn't really affect us at all she so you nine eleven you said in the piece that you've been overseers eight times and I imagine every time you go across season you're with the troops you learn something a little bit different about yourself for about our men and women what did you learn this time with this trip to Ukraine well it's it's interesting because there were some of the people that I've spent time with in Ukraine I'd also been in bed with them in Iraq right back in the stands so you know you stay in the Wisconsin as a guard long enough you've probably been to Iraq you probably been to Afghanistan dependent on when you were in so there are some people that I I had Max and one of the stories I know the main story wanted to do was about just exactly what they were doing over there and I and I explain that but also you know rack it's been in the news a lot lately with the with the killing of a reunion general some stolen money and I knew that there was probably a number of a rack that ins that were in this group in Ukraine so that was a story that actually was appeared in today's paper and I just went up to folks that somebody known some I didn't know and just what is getting kind of their their reaction in kind of their thoughts on what's been going on in Iraq so but what every time that I get I'm embedded with the group from what's the what's Hanson National Guard Wisconsin reserves I'm always impressed with the hard work the resilience of their can do attitude it's just very refreshing spending time with them in another country so Major General Donald Dunbar who we know very well resigned under a cloud of controversy he saw these troops off when they headed to Ukraine he was their boss for a long time you were with them when that out what what is their reaction to handing out right well so so when that all kind of came down you know he he that the report came out in mid December about these horrible things that were going on in some of the some of the units and so he but I would see general Dunbar it pretty much every time I would go to a a going away ceremony or return home ceremony so I wanted to find out from the sea the troops in Ukraine because they would have been in Ukraine when all the stuff was breaking back home and the commander of the unit said folks were very surprised they were shocked but it was but also just like the impeachment they had to continue with going on with with their jobs as well too so that turned out to be a a separate story as well to just kind of the reaction and kind of you know what's it like for a unit when their top guy that could because he was the top soldier in in the Wisconsin as a guard what's it like when he has to leave under you know under cloudy circumstances and for the most part they had a they called it a town hall meeting the they all discussed it because a lot of them were our old our you know higher up people and in the troops that had served with channel Dunbar for a number of years so so it's it was difficult for them but but you know they're they just dealt with it make Jones without standing work from Ukraine you should check it.
