"Very good. And then they measured that they swabbed their nose to measure the number of bacteria or viruses that were present flu viruses. And then they did a blood test. So this is just like you would do in a pharmaceutical trial. They took out blood and they measured their natural killer T cells, which is what your vaccines would do. And here's what they found. They found that people who had the flu vaccine plus the shake had 22 times more of the natural killer T cells. That's 22,000% more. That's an insane result. Because we get excited in medicine when we see a 28% improvement or a 30% improvement, we're talking about a 22,000% improvement. There's no drugs into that. Right. And we think about like how to make the medicine do its job better, right? Well, look, here's the difference between foods and medicines. And we're talking about making them work together. Medicines don't give you joy. They give you some effect that you hope to have. Foods give you that can give you that effect and the joy as well. And then when you put them together, you're getting more effect and you also get a little bit of the joy of life as well. And so that's one of the studies that I always refer to to say, you know, like we can't ignore food as medicine. And the other thing that I think that is, you know, I'm a cancer researcher. I've done a lot of cancer research over my career. And I've had cancer in my family. I talk about my mother who actually had all of our cancer successfully eliminated by immunotherapy using her own immune system to get rid of it. And we had given her pomegranate juice, we'd given her other foods that actually helped to grow good bacteria. Well, the latest study that I think is a jaw dropper was published in nature medicine. It was done by the MD Anderson cancer center, one of the top cancer centers in the world. Jim Ellison, who actually Allison, who's actually one of the researchers. For his work in immunotherapy, that group is studying immuno immune system, the microbiome, what you eat and cancer. Like it's sort of like the holy quadrant of what we want to actually start to do in cancer research. They took 200 patients who had malignant melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. And these patients were getting immunotherapy, kind of infusing a therapy that actually works when it works. It works great. The problem only about 20% of people respond to this type of immunotherapy. So they wanted to find out what the difference between responders and non responders were. And this is starting to be the pattern of the kind of research done in this field. They found the responders who benefited from an immune therapy that Jack up your own immune system to go after the cancer. And therefore, you do better. You can start to go away and you live. Had one bacteria that the ones who didn't respond didn't happen. That bacteria is a room in a caucus. Now, on a past podcast, I talked about ackermann Sia. Well, Ruben a caucus is starting to pop up as another significant player in the microbiome space. Now, I started to take note of ruminococcus about a year and a half ago during the pandemic, people were studying, why did some people have more antiviral cytokines in their bloodstream? If they weren't getting COVID, and it turned out that those people had more room in a caucus. In their stool as well. Wow. So cancer, but also COVID. Yeah. And so what was interesting is that in the study in China that found this during early days of COVID, also asked what were these people eating? And in China, the study for the COVID study showed that the people with more ruminococcus and more interferon gamma, the natural virus killer, they were drinking more green and black tea, not just green tea, but black tea. And they were having more omega three fatty acids, both from plant based foods, as well as seafood. Now, flip back over to the Japanese food with sushi and green tea is a good thing. Exactly. That's the carry out. The cancer study is much more sober because now we're talking about a different kind of life or death. And the surprise with this room in a caucus bacteria, now what they did is actually ask the people what they were eating. And because the microbiome, of course, is strongly influenced by the food weed. Turns out that they were that these people were eating many different, mostly plant based foods with tons of dietary fiber if they were getting room at a caucus if they were responding. And so then they began to calculate how much dietary fiber you would need to get an effect. And what they found is that for every 5 grams per day of dietary fiber you ate. How much is 5 grams of dietary fiber? That's the average amount you'd get in a medium sized pair. A pair a day would give you 5 grams. Lower by the way, the average American eats about 8 grams a day, which is terrible. But even 5 grams in this setting would actually lower the risk of tumor progression and lower mortality by 30%. So now they calculated it out. If you actually had a 20 gram, up to 20 grams of fiber, you really maxed out your ability to actually respond to a metastatic cancer medicine. And so every cancer patient always asks their oncologist, hey Doc, what should I eat? And oftentimes, they're saying just eat anything. Go to Mickey D's or whatever. Or they say ice cream and milkshakes and it's like terrible. This is where science is. Science is giving us the answer to those questions that patients want to have. And I think that this is what responsible doctors who are on who are current and who are forward going. This is where our society has to go. Is beginning to get those answers to be able to tell patients how they can help themselves. Well, it's interesting. Well, you know, we talk about dietary fiber, but that's a very big bucket. There's soluble fiber insoluble fiber prebiotic fibers. Did it matter? And how do they figure that out? You know, they were looking at mostly fruits and vegetables. And I think these are mostly insoluble fibers or sorry, sorry about fibers that were in this study. And so this is now the next layer. So real scientific research doesn't deliver all the answers and one fell so you kind of go back and you get back into the batter's box and you hit another one out in terms of research and so that's really I think a place to watch MD Anderson looking at this work that they're doing on the microbiome and diet and looking at the response to cancer therapy. So I mean, look, these kinds of efforts are going on all around the world, but they underscored this idea that the food that we eat does matter. And it can matter a lot to help the medicines that have been the product of all this research to help get the result that we want to patient. So first, deliver benefit. And I think that that's something that I was really important for doctors to hear. So I think if this is true and I clearly believe it is, and you believe it is, and I don't even know what to believe because it's scientifically proven. I can believe in God or not, but that's hard to prove scientifically or how many angels dance on the head of a pin. We can argue that all day. But this is science..

"Deep sleep or you're not going to make it too well through this journey to recover from what we're having to do to your body to kill the cancer. So deep sleep is critical. And, you know, in America, we're kind of live on the run. And I used to do things like I did. I was interviewed for my first book at the crystal cathedral. I flew out there left work flew out there, was interviewed and flew back overnight on the red eye special, got into Atlanta airport at 5 a.m. and got to work by 7 a.m.. I don't do that anymore. But that's kind of the way I lived my life. And when I realized what important work in our body happens when we sleep, I've now changed how I do things and I make sleep, a priority. So deep sleep is a chief contributor to enhancing the self healing mechanisms that it goes on overdrive when we're in that. Right. That's right. That's when our body detoxes, cleanse, heels, and repairs itself. And so when we're living on the run, that is not happening. So what other obviously you learn a lot and you put a lot of your book. Yeah, we could be here all night, but I also learned that 70 to 80% of our immune cells are in our gut lining. And so that care and nourishment of our gut is critical for us to have good health and have a strong immune system. Now let's be honest, we know that when we take antibiotics, which can save your life, sometimes. That gut lining gets destroyed by the antibiotics. So each time we use an antibiotic, we must be cautious about conscientiously trying to rebuild that gut. And when we go through something like chemotherapy, which is the worst thing you can possibly do to the gut. Worse than antibiotics, you have to realize that once the chemotherapy is over, you've got to rebuild that gut lining if you want to have a strong immune system. And when I finished chemo, number one, I was protecting my gut with certain things I was doing, but it was still damaged, but I completely rebuilt it and so this suppressed immune system that chemo patients have for two, three, up to 5 years or maybe the rest of their life, I did not have. At the end of chemotherapy, 6 weeks later. My red blood cells white blood cells and platelets were back within normal ranges. My doctors called me their rockstar cancer patient and said, we just don't see this. This is unbelievable. But the point is, if you're actively involved and you're going to the best doctors who are up on the current research and the current ways of fighting cancer. And then you're doing your part too, then you're going to compliment what they're doing to get a better outcome. When we talk, do you mention you cited that research or pronouncement from the MD Anderson cancer center,.

"And this didn't happen. In sham conditions when the energy healer was not turning on the energy yes. Thank you aerial. That's absolutely right. The only thing i would add to that is in these cases. They were not even handling the mice. That is they weren't touching the mice so there near the mice but they're not actually touching the mice and everything that you said there is correct. Their control conditions there sham conditions. They are intending to send healing to these mice who have been injected with cancer cells using standard models that we use for looking at drugs for example louis carcinoma. In this case. I believe the model that they used for the mice. In the md anderson cancer study and yes they're seeing for shrinkage in tumors then changes in tumor metastasis and patterns across these studies of the same cytokines the same cell subsets and the same protein kindness. Signaling they're seeing this pattern and it's all connected to the bio energetic work. It's not connected to the use of a drug. I must say my mind is blown. And if i didn't trust you as a scientist in the science that went into this i would also be incredibly skeptical but at fred through the science that goes into. It's people can agree that it is good science so it's quite shocking to me that we are finding these things it's shocking and it's shocking that people don't know to paraphrase a little bit. Lorenzo is part of our consciousness in healing initiative. Scientific advisory council part of what we did areolas. We realized that many of our scientists needed support not just financially to support their studies which is still very much needed but also community because they can't even talk about their research with other scientists. People think they're crazy. That's changing a little bit. But i have to tell you even with the funding support that lorenzo was able to get. He had to really go through a lot to even be able to conduct. These studies at md anderson cancer center because people just think they're weird and they have a really hard time believing it and so you can imagine how dejected some of our fellow scientists are when they say. These are amazing results. And i thought we were for science for scientists sake that we're going to follow the data and explorer where we go. There's no agenda with the scientists except to explore what is possible for human healing potential and a lot of times whether it's the press or whether it's scientific gatekeepers or whatever they're met with a lot of resistance it's very hard sometimes for them to even publish their studies as i mentioned in certain parts of the book so the struggle is real from that perspective and it is very much related to even for people listening like. That's really hard for me to believe. This is why i detail in reference painstakingly all of these studies for you all because i want you to really look in the data. I want you to tear it apart. I want you to check it out. I want people to really get involved. Because i really do believe we're seeing something really tremendous. And there's a whole field of research here to be galvanized for human healing. I really do believe that. I wouldn't be so passionate about what i do. It doesn't mean we have all the answers at all but it does mean that we're going to have to open our minds to how powerful we are as human healing agents and quite frankly that's scary for most of us. Do i really have that much. Power is consciousness really powerful because if it is what does that mean for me. What does that mean for my responsibility in healing myself. But it doesn't have to be heavy. It's actually a super joyful thing when you think about it. One of the things that i thought very reassuring was the idea that consciousness seems to have this intelligence around. It's healing so in some of the studies that you referenced you reference that in a petri dish of cells directing healing towards healthy cells would allow those cells to flourish and directing the same healing energy energy the universe quote unquote towards cancer cells would diminish and kill the cancer cells so they're actually seems to be some sort of intelligence to this process. Yes and again..

"She found this unique effect only for the healing touch group where they had a maintenance in their natural killer cells. Cyto-toxicity during chemo radiation. So that is that aspect of their immune system was maintained during chemo radiation. Where it usually isn't you. See the decline for the usual care group. You see the decline for the relaxation group but not the healing touch group so as you can imagine. You're thinking how does energy get under the skin. Like i know we measured placebo effects in some of these things but couldn't be something very much about being human so several of my colleagues have looked at this and sell an animal models to ostensibly get away from the placebo question which is a whole other conversation but essentially you wanna know. Can you see these direct physiological effects in non humans was released some kind of biological movement or mechanisms that are taking place and in a nutshell. Yeah it seems like there are and i. Detail is several studies. Some of the most exciting work. That i'm really enthused about and i'm excited to see where this continues to go is happening at the md anderson cancer center with my colleague. Dr lorenzo cohen. Who is a very well funded researcher in integrative health and medicine. He is the director for research at the integrative chair at md anderson cancer center has been looking at things like yoga and acupuncture and other types of integrative interventions for cancer for many many years very well funded by nih but like me. He's always had these passions for the biofilm research. Lorenzo's team now has to published studies out already exploring how a trained and i would say very talented bio 'field healer is able to reproduce ably shrink tumors in mouse models of cancer down to cite a kind or immune signaling molecules and actually all the way down to proteinase levels. They replicated the first study. And the first study they actually found the shrinkage in tumors. In the second study they didn't see a shrinkage in tumors they actually saw into chronic effect which other researchers have found with examining bioenergy for completely different bio-energy interventions something very interesting patterns. That's going on in the second study though they found a reduction in tumor migration or metastasis and interestingly the same pattern of the reduction in specific inflammatory cytokines that immune signaling and cell subsets as well as specific protein kindness levels and as i detail in the book. That's not a one off either. We're seeing that. Those specific protein kindness level. Signaling has been found not just an md anderson cancer studies but in a couple of studies at harvard looking at emitted shougang. There seems to be a pattern here. And when i'm looking at this i'm just jumping out of my skin being like this is fantastic. Like isn't anyone paying attention. We need to be investing in this research. There's a pattern here. There's very little data from a scientist perspective from my perspective. The promise that we're seeing with this handful of studies on the physiology when we're seeing these correspondences across labs with different types of energy healing down to the cell signaling where people are actually looking at drug discovery looking to see how they can manipulate these same protein kinases using drugs. We're basically seeing that with these energy healing effects so just to summarize for people in these studies. An energy healer would approach a mouse with cancer. He would what his hand somewhere over the mouse and transducers energy towards them energy of the universe and in doing so would reduce the amount of cancer in the mouse or change the way that it was metastasized and this would lead to reliable and obvious changes in cellular signaling inside the mouse..

"Okay and then. We'll probably about the last couple years. She's been talking. Just hate upkeep on the house and data you know. I'm forty minutes away so if she needs me to do something you know it's like okay. You know it takes me forty minutes to get over there to to do it so and you know just you know the upkeep and that kind of thing and so she said well let me look at one of these Independent facility so should we went and we looked at a whole bunch of them but She picked one actually not too far from where she lives but Yeah it's really nice place. It looks more like an apartment complex in anything but Once you get inside everything's interconnected. And you know i have like a you know. They have all kinds of little activity areas and indoor swimming pool and all these kind of things so that kind of interesting. Yeah so yeah. Yeah and with the circle of life One of the things. I'm learning to do in. My shop is to sit down. I'm one of the ankle is always standing. And then i'll get you know you know after about Eight hours in the shop. All day will come up and go feed or killing me my lower bags killing me. Sit down so. I've been making a conscious effort to use the to shops tools. I have constantly to. Yeah you know if. I don't have to move around for something. Let me sit down and and do it. So that's that's actually been hell helping but it you know. I have to consciously think to sit down. It's kind of weird just an active guy. Yeah yeah it is so you know so anyway but just You know and that's one of the things. That's the bad thing about my shop result concrete so i do have pads down and things of that nature but i you know those only help to a certain degree And especially when you're walking back and forth things but anyway so If anyone has any solutions for that. I've looked into who was it. That recommended the The horse mats that you could get a tractor supply. I think we mentioned that. Kevin i all i heard probably so it's amita but anyway. Yeah but kevin kevin's one at recommended though so. Yeah definitely going to have to Look into that but all in all the tractor supply. Or it's mets. Yes yes he said he said yeah you could pick them up fairly inexpensively. They'll cover much bigger area than if you buy those Those rubber tiles and remember. He said you can also put machines on them too. So yeah i i never i. I don't have them. But i understand. They're pretty pretty stout and think obviously if they're holding organs so someday someday but with that said roger what are you working on the shot. Oh how always have at least a half a dozen things going on in the shop. Biggest biggest one right now is there is a Tech company that just built a Oh it's like a sixteen million dollar building and they asked me to build their kind of a counter counter heights table for their their break room. the break room is very interesting in the center of the building is a full size basketball court. Why that is the know the the breaker omen then so we built a twelve foot. Long old growth redwood left live edge on one side and then the side. They'll say that you know the straight edge and the sides are waterfall and so it's forty five degree angles. Chemistry down turned out pretty. Nice the The foot rests. We did a lot of the foraging with power hammer person braces to hold some Disa- around salt around stock. The goes from side to side so it can axes snail both support for the table but also for their feet but pretty pretty pretty impressive piece. Yeah that sounds very interesting. The really kind of a hippy hippy. Hip kind of place. I mean when your break room consists of or areas of basketball court and you know and they've got somebody making a new thing so many. I mean i worked for a company whose furniture is probably literally thirty years old. And they're just they ship it in and a cube farm and who cares you know that's pretty cool that they're they're he'll get new stuff and and you get the chance to make it with the attitude or the. I don't know how you describe it. But their work model. Is you give you give people a little bit more freedom and nice things. They're more productive. I think a lot i think. A lot of america. A lot of businesses have lost sight of that. But if you get the right mix of people and in that situation. They you know they're going to. They're going to do really well. And that's this you know. This company is built themselves around that and they're very successful so that's pretty cool. Yeah much different than the you know the medical world that. I'm immersed in polar opposites you know so Corporate corporate medicine. I think could learn a lot from some of these big tech companies. Yeah i agree. Yeah it was. I worked for a number of healthcare institutions throughout my career. so yeah it's kind of interesting and in mine were all state medical institutions like at work for md anderson cancer center for a number of years. So okay yeah. So it's that's even that's even worse when you mix the state with the The medical center especially one as large as md anderson. When i left them they were right at twenty five thousand employees out. Yeah just im- i mean. Yeah yeah i mean you look at you talk about. Ut system you all the universities and stuff md anderson's everyone thinks ut austin but actually it's md. Anderson that's the Big dog on the street when it comes down to funding and legislative impact and all that kind of stuff. But yeah definitely understand. Stand that but speaking of which you have a fascinating background so tell us a little bit about that because you're both in the medical side but then you also run a business. That does a lot of custom cabinetry as well as some other interesting things. I don't i don't do a lot of cabinetry. Well custom furniture outside. You grew up. I grew up in northern nevada We're about eighty miles from reno. Hannah grew up on on alfalfa farm. So we were twenty five miles out of the nearest town. So you know growing up ahead. A whole corner of nevada just myself and at parents that were you know. They taught me how to work. The expected me to work but same..
