A highlight from 1262. Anti-CBDC Bill Vote! | 27 to 20 Stablecoins vs CBDCs
"You do not want to miss this one, we're going to be breaking down the CBDC vote that happened yesterday in DC. Also taking a look at a number of clips that'll give you some alignment as to what the future of CBDCs here in the United States might look like. We're going to break all that down for you. It's going to be a good one. My name is Paul Bearer, welcome back into Tech Path. Before we get started, I want to thank our sponsor, that's Tangem. And this is all about self -custody. When you think about CBDCs, you got to think about self -custody. Check out tangem .com, you can learn a little bit more about their wallet. They do slim as a bank card, secure as a bank vault, store, buy, earn, transfer, and swap thousands of coins and tokens. If you want to use their card, you can do so with two different types. You can get the classic wallet, or you can get this new Tangem wallet that is a new type of card that's going to give you optional seed phrases. You can order these in three -card packs, so it's very easy. I would suggest doing that, spend a little bit extra for that. Use our discount code to help kind of soften the blow there. But it's a great value, check it out, we'll leave a link down below, it does help the channel out. Let's get into a couple of the things that happened yesterday. The two I want to focus on are these right here. The Power of the Mint Act, and then also the CBDC Anti -Surveillance State Act. These were the two that were focused on primarily. And I want to go to an intro clip real quick to give you kind of a framework of how this all started there in D .C. Listen in. Today we'll consider a slate of legislation to bolster our national security, protect Americans' financial privacy, and shield our financial system from the risks associated with the potential central bank digital currency, or CBDC. Unlike decentralized cryptocurrencies, a central bank digital currency is a digital form of sovereign currency that is designed and issued by a government and transacts on a digital ledger that is controlled by that government. If not designed to emulate cash, could give the federal government the ability to surveil and restrict Americans' transactions. This is not just alarming, it's downright un -American. We've already seen examples of governments weaponizing their financial system against their citizens in China. We need to counter China by being the best version of ourselves. This bill expresses that sentiment that, yes, we're going to innovate and we're going to lead on blockchain and we're going to lead on digital assets, but we're going to do so the American way. And the way we do that is decentralized. We don't do this by centralizing it in a central bank. We can achieve the innovation potential of blockchain and the immediacy of payments and the frictionless payments future with what we did in July. And that is to create a regulatory framework for stablecoin. All right, so there's some fire in the belly of the lawmakers. I like what I'm hearing so far. This sounds pretty good. But we get into more. And remember, there's always a bad guy. So let's go, maybe girl, we'll go to the next clip with Maxine Waters. Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman. Unfortunately, Republicans are marking up one bill that is not bipartisan. We do know that 130 countries around the world are racing to develop and implement a CBDC. What will happen if CBDCs issued by other central banks gain traction as a preferred method of payment in international trade transactions? Are we comfortable allowing the Chinese yuan or currencies from other countries to overtake the U .S. dollar as a principal global reserve currency? Republicans are making baseless attacks against the CBDC that does not even exist. So with that, I yield back the balance of my time. All right, so Maxine in rare form, I shouldn't say rare, normal form with her. She's, of course, for the idea of CBDCs. The other thing, a lot of what she said could be applied to stablecoins. And what we're seeing around the world, this is the first time I think we are chasing other governments who are actually trying to suppress their citizens. I would kind of be in a position or the camp of not going that direction. I like what I'm hearing so far. But let's go into our next clip. This is going to be Mr. Sherman listening. And allowing the Federal Reserve to continue doing what they're doing, literally recruiting and hiring people in the San Francisco Fed office to build a central bank digital currency is the financial equivalent of allowing the empire from Star Wars to build the Death Star so long as they promise not to turn it on. I'm struck by the hypocrisy of the advocates of cryptocurrency. They come in and they say cryptocurrency is wonderful because it's digital and it's high tech and it's innovative. And then they propose a bill which, in the words of the ranking member, is an anti -innovation bill. And they describe the U .S. government as Darth Vader. They describe any attempt to enforce American laws as the action of Darth Vader in the empire. As Sam Bankman -Fried has demonstrated, crypto is perfect for hiding from your creditors. And while his body may be in jail, his money cannot be found. I yield back. General McNeil's back. Thank you. I just have some, you know, obviously I'm opposed to this bill, but I just want to know what I'm arguing against. All right. You can't make this stuff. What am I going against? I don't even know what I'm going against. All right. Well, the point is, is that Sherman's usually in that kind of position. Anti -innovation. I thought that was a rare little piece right there. Both these guys are going to go against anything that I think the Republicans or even to a certain extent, the bipartisan Capitol Hill lawmakers will go when it comes to crypto or anything that is even related to blockchain. Let's get into our next clip. This goes into a little bit more about the unbanked. Listen in. And the idea that this is somehow going to help the unbanked is insane. Because when you ask the unbanked, why are you unbanked? A lot of it is because of surveillance capitalism. A permissionless system would be something more similar to Bitcoin. You could digitize it. And frankly, that's why a lot of people have been drawn in the unbanked and underbanked community to crypto currencies like Bitcoin. I think one of the speakers for this bill said that people aren't banked because they oppose the quote surveillance state. People aren't banked because they don't have any money. It's amazing. The people who aren't banked are the people who don't have any money. I'd be willing to support this bill if it also ended crypto. Well, that's an interesting statement there. When you go to the FDIC site, this is the 2021 FDIC national survey of unbanked and underbanked households. Look at some of the data here on this. An estimated four and a half percent of U .S. household, approximately 5 .9 million were unbanked. This is 2021. OK, likelihood of this is much greater. Remember, we have a lot of immigrants in our country that in many cases also are coming from countries who they've seen their banking system maybe not work out so well for them. And they are very, very skeptical because of that. Some don't have enough money to meet minimum balance requirements, as cited, but around 21 percent. But most don't trust banks. This was the second most cited main reason for not having an account. Avoiding a bank gives more privacy was the third most cited main reason, 8 .4 percent. Further into the report, this was a piece right here. Who are the unbanked and underbanked breaking this out? Most is distrust of banks, inconvenient locations, high bank account fees, needed products and services are not offered by banks, poor credit history, you know, check system, etc. Typical challenges I think a lot of people in the unbanked sector face. Let's go to our next clip. I think this is a good one right here. This gets into the privacy side of things. I think there's what 2000 stable coins that are out there right now. None of them, none of them protects the security of American citizens privacy. And when an American citizen puts all their information out in the private sector and it's available to 200 different retailers and banks and and other governments, there is no expectation of privacy. That's our problem here. Some of my colleagues gloss over the fact the whole reason they're collecting the data in the first place is the government makes them collect it. Frankly, if you don't agree to spy on your customers, you don't get to operate a bank in the United States. You don't get to operate a money service business in the United States, essentially get permission from the government to act as a financial services institution. So long as you spy on your customers. About million 350 pieces of evidence sitting over at the Treasury on private sector activity, these giant, enormous government databases, which have been hacked, both the IRS and others, Office of Personnel Management and others do present tremendous targeting by bad actors. You know, this is really where it gets into the destruction of personal privacy. And this is the problem that we do face in our society. Some of the countries that are already down this slippery slope, countries like China, as an example, right here, China's central bank digital currency. This is the digital ID to deduct fines instantly from your digital wallet if you're caught for speeding or jaywalking by a surveillance system. So right there, this kind of shows the actual crime of jaywalking now portrayed on basically a bulletin board in front of everyone. And then, of course, automatically deducted. These are the kind of invasion capabilities. Talk about, you know, search and seizure. This is going to be able to break down the walls of search and seizure and do things within our own economies and within our own society that we would never dream of, especially around the Constitution. This is China right here. Super SIM cards now featuring new digital yuan functions is this super SIM card right here. It's going to function as a digital yuan wallet, smart card and I .D. cards as the nation's CBDC pilot continues. So this is going on to phones and will make its way into a position where you can no longer utilize because you have digital wallet. Now your wallet and you're going to be able to use this in a way in which you go to a grocery store, you go to any retailer and you use that as a payment for form. And that's where they can lock it down. And that's exactly what I think these lawmakers are fighting against. Let's go to our next clip. This will continue to show you a little bit more about this slippery slope of privacy. Look at my uncle and my cousin helped me get a cell phone that is linked to a Chinese bank card so that I could buy anything pleasing and I have to pass facial recognition identity verification, which is insane, because all I want to do is just spend my gift card balance on this debit.

Scherzer rebounds, Mets blank Padres 5-0 in playoff rematch
"The mets got two run doubles from Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor on their way to a 5 to nothing win over San Diego. Max Scherzer struck out 6 in 5 scoreless innings for his second win. I always want to say I want to go deeper. You know, it's tough to say you only want pitch 5 innings. But they did a good job of grinding with me, but it seemed got to win. So anytime the team wins, I'm happy. You Darvish suffered his first career loss against the mets after 5 wins. He allowed 5 runs in 6 and a third innings. The Padres had won three straight. Mike thank you so New York.

"High school, Aryan was just getting started in Athens. Okay, the B-52s, you know, Ariana would just get started. And Michael saw it and the rest of them would play and you brought up this and I want you to emphasize this a little bit. 40 watt club. Georgia club. I mean, the not owl, which used to be out for country out there off of full 41 north. We're seeing and there's still all those scenes today. These new bands, these new, you know, that new music is coming out of. But Michael sobbing and they would do a buddy of mine, Steve McNeil, he used to go down and to Athens and they would play a set and then they'd sit out in the bar and just hang out with everybody. And that was another cool thing too about it is, you know, I never got the chance to see REM play at the 40 watt and one of those impromptu sets. But what I did see is a lot of members of REM and other bands, David schools, or Mike Mills, or maryam, just hanging out at the bars. And when I would go, I mean, I remember there was a brief period of time and I believe it was the summer of 2000 spring of 2000. I had gone to see a band called the old 97s at the 40 watt, and I was going up to the bar to grab a beer and I looked over and it's Mike Mills next to me and I kind of gave him a nod and a knowledge we was, he obviously had no idea who I was. And then a little while later, radiohead played a concert at Stone Mountain in a very small venue. It was amazing to be there. And I saw Mike Mills again, he kind of bumped into each other, and it was that sign, again, he didn't know who I was, but he knew that I knew who he was and we had both been too amazing concerts and brief period of time and he kind of gave me that sign of acknowledgment like, all right, kid. You obviously have good choice in music.

You know, that's tough, but tonight we got what we deserved and was a victory. We played well. New York currently the tenth seed. They're on the outside, though looking in four points between themselves and the penguins, the 8th seed. Islanders, they host the golden knights Saturday, both teams will be playing back to backs. That's because the golden knights, they were beaten up something fierce at MSG four to one at the hands of the rangers, quite a night for Chris kreider his 700th game is 20th goal of the season. 20th assist for Vincent schrock, as well, yaroslav a loch, brilliant in net 33 saves rangers of the 6th seed. Bloomberg radio on demand and in your podcast D on the latest sound on podcasts, the debt ceiling debate has brought back the idea of minting a $1 trillion platinum coin. Is this really a good idea? I ask Bloomberg's Joe wiesenthal. You know, look, if you run out of borrowing authority, which is what the debt ceiling means, and you still have obligations to meet your spending authority because the Congress is also passed a budget. What do you do rather than default, you could admit this coin, say, put a $1 trillion on it, write the word 1 trillion, deposit it at the treasury's account at the New York fed with the treasury general account. And now you have a $1 trillion in there that you can then spend. Is it a gimmick? Yeah, of course, writing a trillion on a coin, but on the other hand, the idea that we would have this sort of fiction called the debt ceiling, in which we arbitrarily threaten publicly, we might default on our obligations. There's also pretty silly. If the prospect is your defaulting on the largest liquid fixed income asset class in the entire world, the definition of safety, that maybe it's okay to use a gimmick in that case because the alternative is so catastrophic. Maybe we warm up to the idea of a gimmick. That's right, come on. Look, I don't want to do silly things either. I want to have a serious government that operates, but like, you know, I was just in a conversation with the other day and just like, okay, if it's a choice between going over a cliff and the Grand Canyon or pressing a silly button, why is this so hard? Right, since it's a self imposed debt ceiling to begin with. If you're going to really insist that the dead ceiling is this sort of like catastrophic apocalyptic moment, right? Where if you

"This is the green and I'm the publisher of telecom reseller, and today I'm with Mark McNeil, who's the strategic healthcare program manager for TBI. Mark, thank you for joining me today. Thanks, Doug. Great to be here with you. Well, Mark, thank you for taking some time out here on a busy morning. We are at the TBI the biggest ad here in Chicago, 2022. This is really exciting. We're meeting a lot of your partners and so on. But Mark, what you are the strategic healthcare program manager, what does that mean? What is strategic healthcare program manager meaning CDR? Yes. So it means a specialist focus obviously in healthcare that is keeping an eye out for new technologies that are coming up in that space, whatever they may be collaboration technologies around telemedicine, remote monitoring, whatever it may be. And then communicating the benefits of those new technologies to our partners who are interfacing with direct customers who are in the healthcare space healthcare providers. My goal is to educate them to train them to work with their sales and marketing teams on how to approach healthcare providers. And then to get them to a position where they're comfortable, opening up conversations where they can then access my resource to come in and help them with those engagements. Now, healthcare is probably not the number one it's very close to being the number one sector in our economy. Yes. But historically in the managed service provider market, it's never been really as big as some of the other industries that people pursued. No. And the whole reason was cloud lack of control over patient data. We look at healthcare as a highly regulated industry, there is extra scrutiny on how healthcare providers take in, manage, and distribute patient information. And anything that was not inside the four walls of the hospital within the firewall was looked at as, okay, that's not secure. That's something we can not do. So as a result, unfortunately, healthcare lagged behind in this whole as a service kind of movement in our company. And as other industries took advantage of the efficiencies of cloud based solutions, healthcare was reluctant to do that. With the advent of better security, better hosting locations, better control over things that may be in either a public cloud or now a private cloud, healthcare has come to the point where they're more comfortable in accessing those kinds of solutions. Those cloud based solutions. So we're starting to see that proliferate through healthcare as it did through the other industries as well. And we should be really clear that your focus is both on telehealth and telemedicine, but also basically on regular service services, cash services and so on that we're in for hospital or medical clinic and so on once to basically use a managed service, even if they're doing it on prem. Even that was something that people were hesitant about. They were sort of wanting their old fashioned PBX or teeth system longer than a lot of other industry. Correct. And you have to think about in their environment. There's only so many dollars to go around. If I'm looking at an investment, I'm making an investment in diagnostic or clinical solutions or technologies that address patient care. Some of the things that may suffer are some of that backbone infrastructure that we all look at is as a necessity that may have been second or third in terms of priority when it comes to where are we spending our IT dollars as a healthcare provider. As we've moved forward, and of course, COVID, the whole situation with COVID has brought collaboration, communications, remote care to the forefront, even healthcare providers are now looking at that as a strategic asset, just as they would look at in EMR system or some kind of diagnostic tool. So they're looking at that kind of investment with the same kind of scrutiny and importance that they would look at some of those other technologies. This is the long game of the crisis. Along came the pandemic and all of a sudden everything was off site. The people scheduling appointments, the contact centers athlete. There's a collections or some sort of operational operation. And of course, a lot of medical care was now and you were just telling me right before there was all sorts of platforms, no one had ever even thought of ever using for healthcare, including really unsecure stuff. Right. And the state governments were like, okay, go ahead because at least you can see your doctor. It's a pandemic. It's an emergency people make exceptions. So in the past where, you know, talking on my iPhone or doing a FaceTime call with a patient or not secure not protected, the regulator said, we're easing off of that. At least during this pandemic, because we know it's really the only way now that you can safely interact with a patient and determine symptoms and determine if this is something that needs to be brought into the hospital environment. So that has changed, and that's why now, one of my roles here is to say that former use of communication and collaboration with the patient is not going to fly in the new environment post COVID, here are some platforms that are secure that do allow you to collaborate in the similar way. Maybe even a better way more entrenched way more extensive way. But they offer the securities that you need that regulators are one thing. You're going to go through HIPAA audits and that kind of thing. And that's one thing. But let's think about protecting the patient and their privacy and their information. That's what's most important to most healthcare providers. And that's where as I communicate, the progress that these other collaboration and communications platforms have made recently, that's where that acceptance is starting to grow. And that's why we're seeing healthcare starting to invest in those kinds of technologies. So now that we're entering the post pandemic era, I guess I think at least I hope. Yes. What does telemedicine or telehealth mean? What is the definition of that? It's a very good question, joke. Because I think a lot of people for 20 years now were saying, oh, we've got to do telemedicine at some point. It never seems to bubble up to the top of the priority list. Something for tomorrow. Exactly. But it was always in.

"There is some data out there that you should probably know. I'm actually kinda struck by something. don mcneill wrote now. Y'all know him even if you don't know him you know the name He was the writer. Donald mcneil at the new york times. Who was fired. He was their science writer and he took a class of privileged white high school kids to central america on a travel trip by the new york times. That rich parents were sitting there. Kids on so they could claim something distinguish them to get into college and mcneil. Use the word now. He didn't use the inward as a pejorative. He didn't use it in casual conversation. A student accused another student of using the inward and mcneil sought to investigate the truth of the matter asserted and so asked if the kid used inward and he did not say inward he said the actual word and the result was donald. Mcneil got fired for uttering the word. I am not making that up. It sells like the guy is on the spectrum. Frankly and he didn't deal well with his colleagues and the young folks at the new york times didn't like eamon so they pushed him out but his writing is essential science writing and he writes with clarity others. Don't and i want to read you to three sentences. He wrote three sentences in this country. Ninety nine percent of cova deaths are now among the unvaccinated. Data doesn't get more convincing than that. Death has a false positive rate of zero. Now that was. He actually wrote that last month. The data has changed a little bit with the rise and growth and spread of the delta varian. But not by a whole lot. Let me put this. In perspective of the the new york times of all things actually does have a pretty helpful chart With the data across the nation has to death rate so for example In georgia where. I am An unvaccinated person is eighty seven times more likely to die vaccinated person An unvaccinated person is one hundred sixty one times we're likely to be hospitalized than a vaccinated person And i it's kinda now some states because of the vaccination rates in the lack of spread. It's different so for example in indiana you have a seven times more likely chance of dying if you're unvaccinated vaccinated but that's in large part because they don't have a lot of people dying neither way In another state Let's do new york is Well we're is new. York new york is not on their list here in new jersey. One hundred twenty six times more likely to be hospitalized. If you're unvaccinated vaccinated fifty times more likely to die is staggering staggering..

You're saying if you do a normal neck you do at the other side. None like normal. Knickknack is the only noble fight off with using your rot foot out of the black. Yeah yeah yep so. They don't do your opposite up. Nak is opposite. Why exactly yeah you can do neck both save up knack all turned down to the rot and still take and still take my normal neck foot off. Does that make sense. So my knickknack am i up. Neck are still use the same foot rod. Naw darn opposite the yeah. We ate On on never learned to whip the other way. I tried and tried. And i just i don are my brain conduit my body conduit our water is just i still try like i still try the motorcross tracks like if i can learn to whip the other way that'll be my goal until the mafikeng. Fill different both ways. But i can do both ways. Whips can do both ways I have a favorite side and a not so favorite saw but not opposite side. I try and still do the same exact movements as if i was doing Like literally copy does movements if that made sense like yeah like i just i just try and mirror them. Basically i've tried to mirror them of almost crashed. Every gonna get onto this. I'm gonna look like jared mcneil. Aw not on still coming in sideways to the it's just walk with your throttle being different feeling different like the way what feels comfortable to you. This is like when you bought. It's like locked into the steering and stuff like that. Dispels adults feel a lot different. Yeah i mean. I can tweak it out yeah i could. Jim whip that way but it doesn't look that good and it certainly doesn't feel that good. Yeah yeah. I never feels that good. It feels awkward familiar. Look even for your turn downs. Both ways don't feel weird but not a main as we it is. I already feel but lack. As far as what i do like a seatbelts whip. They both feel like my irregular. Feels comfortable Opposite just feels like not very comfortable. It's just a weird. We'd feeling man doesn't cry. And then with all of your whips already said now with max and dobnak of one hand axe. Did you get a nar handed. Knock once on. I've done those before you have done our handed nine but this so they hard but lock you never get. And i was really not going to believe him until he sent through a video showing it which he did so that completely came out of the blue. And i didn't expect this interview to go that way. What Do My Cravings Mean?
"So there can be numerous reasons. For cravings there can be many layers to cravings for people a lot of people think about cravings that is being a result of a particular psychological or emotional reason. You know maybe it was tied back to their childhood or or got into some kind of habit but today when we're in studio we want to focus on the physical or that biochemical reason for creating certain things in general. I think here at nutritional weight and wellness when we think about cravings we see cravings as a sign that there is something out of balance in the body. Something that's not quite right and one example of an imbalance could be could be deficient in a certain nutrient and that may be the cause of cravings. So we know when clients say they have trouble sleeping or they have muscle cramps or they have charlie horses we know these are signs of magnesium deficiency which then also typically coincides with cravings for chocolate. It's almost magical when i'm working with someone and they start taking maybe four hundred to six hundred milligrams of that magnesium grayson their muscle cramps. Go away and they no longer crave chocolate or it's the craving has gone. It's just more of. Hey i like chocolate rather than i need chocolates. I have to have it. And i think the important part to to kinda back up little bit as to explain magnesium licensed. Why do we say that form. I don't you just say magnesium because glysophate Mcneil glycemic is key late to that amino acid so it helps it absorb better so sometimes when you go to stores you can get a different form and it's not as absorbable. It doesn't work as well. So i've had people tell me. Oh yeah i've tried. This and my muscle cramps actually came back so we really liked that magnesium blades so there's no doubt that magnesium is can be a nutrient deficient deficiency and can be directly related to those cravings yup absolutely. I think that's a great point. Nikki is that there is a major difference. Just in that glycemic form with magnesium and when most of the time where people are buying supplements they want that supplement to be able to work well for them which is why we're just huge. Proponents of that magnesium clayson aid. So here's another craving. That actually came as a surprise to me. If you crave salt it is a good chance. First of all that you may be dehydrated so you were working in your garden all day in the hot sun and you're so focused on trying to get those plants in the ground or you're so focused on trying to get the mulch down or whatever those those little gardening chores are and you didn't hydrate properly and then suddenly you start to create that salt.

Get to their psyche. They're saying, Okay, you got one. Let's get it out. Reminds me a lot. Okay. I'm overstepping my boundaries here, Dan, but it reminds me a lot of Lola Marymount back in the Late eighties with Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble, how they would score 140 points a game and people like how are they getting over 100 points because they don't care If you score. They want to get out and run. I'm old enough to remember them. Yes, 1989. They played Michigan in Long Beach Arena and in its intent, a tournament. Hey, Bo Kimble, head. Four files in the first half. Think Tim gurgle, which was a coach at that time he left them in the game. He finished with 45 points in 19 rebounds, did not file out and they beat Michigan. You say 45 points in 19 rebound 19 pretty good game. I'll shut up and in for Jeremiah Davenport, so he has five in the early going, and Cincinnati has a two point lead 86 full court pressure by the cats who played four minutes in 10 seconds. Now Davis will bring it up the floor and Mike Saunders will pick him up defensively is the freshman point guard has checked in for you See?
