Democratic debate: Elizabeth Warren evades question about tax rises

"Dominica I want to ask you about Elizabeth Warren as you heard earlier I was saying that she was their primary target the other Democratic candidates and one big issue that kept coming up again and again is that worn whitten say weather middle class taxes would go up under medicare for all and Pete Buddha judge caught her on it here he is let me be clear on this costs will go up for the wealthy they will go up for big corporations and for middle class families they will go down I will not sign a bill into law that does not lower costs for middle class families Mayor Buddha Judge you say Senator Warren has been quote evasive about how she's going to pay for Medicare for all response or you heard it tonight a yes or no question that didn't get a yes or no answer and lots of the candidates kept hammering her or going back to her on that Dominica what do you think how did this moment resonate we'll look last week was the first time that Elizabeth Warren caught Joe Biden in the average of the national polls and congratulations is what happens when you wind up at the top and the polls you become a front runner and you get a lot of that scrutiny and for people to Judge Amy Klobuchar we should remember they really pinned in Elizabeth Warren on what is her biggest vulnerability and that is whether she's electable that's been the number one issue with Democrats in this a lot of folks were just saying she also did not answer that question your thoughts about she didn't she didn't answer the question but that's the point is that she didn't answer the question and the the problem that what people digits in particular was pointing to is that her policies are too liberal to be elected and she doesn't want cops the fact that that people would have to probably have see their taxes go up because Bernie Sanders did say that that's what would happen aiming on the other hand was saying she's dismissive of other people's ideas and that's interesting thing and we're gonNA see how worn responds to all that that's right and she actually spoke about Warren's wealth tax listen I wanNA give a reality check here to Elizabeth because no one on this stage wants to protect billionaires not even the billionaire wants to protect billionaire we have different approaches your idea is not the only idea so dominica were hearing they're mclovin Shara Pete Buddha judge everybody just kind of puppy piling on but how you think Elizabeth Warren held up you know she's going to have to be at the centre now I mean she did not answer that question about whether people taxes are gonna go up she also didn't really respond to people to Judge when he said that you don't have a plan on this you have a plan on everything else but has basically been using Bernie Sanders as a heat shield to sort of keep the pressure off of her are when it comes to Medicare for all and there's a reason why people to judge kept bringing up Medicare for all who want it as he calls it which is essentially Medicare for all who wanted a medicare for all as a choice instead

Andrew Luck's Retirement Highlights the NFL's Growing Problem

"Know what it wasn't long ago. I think it was last week when two weeks ago when mclovin said hey how about this poll question is andrew lock more likely to be an slight disappointment or hall of famer and this is when the ankle injury came. I remember it was the calf and then the owner robert say said i think it's an ankle and then i started to think there's more involved in this. There's more to this story. Sorry ben just glynn from the calf to a high ankle. I don't even i still don't know what he has but we know it serious enough that he announced his retirement and everybody's got an opinion on this. His decision to retire was a shock to the system for you know the the entire n._f._l. Nation when people say boy oy this is the most shocking football story we've ever heard i mean like new. No no no no how about we start with o._j. Simpson michael vick aaron hernandez. Those are shocking stories. Andrew looks different cat all right he is. He went back to college to get his degree. He could have left after his junior year. He went back to get his degree in architectural design. I believe he there are guys who are or football players and then there guys who play football most our football players j._j. Watt is a football player. Should he still be playing football. No no not at all but it andrew luck is a guy who is a guy who was good at playing football. I don't know if he's a a football guy and there's a difference in that but that doesn't mean he wasn't good at it or didn't love it. I just think that we're we're so unfamiliar. Oh you're with an athlete who uses logic where you go. What are you doing. Most football players in pauley had the analogy. Let's say you have a rock rock in your shoe. Most football players will continue to play in fact. Stop down on the rock. Where is andrew luck goes. How about. I just take the rock in my shoe. I mean it sounds logical. He just took the rock out of a shoe. Football players will tie the shoe differently like they'll somehow find a way. Hey i'll walk differently who care i'll take madison. Shoot me up. Whatever andrew lucked just said. I'm gonna take the the pebble <music> out. He's removing football from his life. Everybody has an opinion on this and when he started rattle off the list of injuries it makes a lot of sense but it's hard for us to imagine and by the way athletes are just commodities. We've moved on from all of these athletes. We don't care really don't care eric. Dickerson joined us in los angeles when we were out there and here's one of the great running backs of all time any looked great. I said the kind you look like you could give me a couple of carries. He said people don't realize the toll that this takes on goes. I slept in a reclining chair for two years because i had neck and back injuries. Nobody cares about eric dickerson's injuries. Nobody cared about jim. Mcmahon's injury his health. He thought about killing himself. We move on and andrew luck realizes that and yes he got paid paid and the reason for people to be upset and how do you do this to your team. And how do you quit on your team. I understand those emotions. I really do but i have to look at this and say andrew. Luck did what andrew luck thought he needed to do. Is it inexcusable to you know oh colts fans. Yeah i get that. I don't think he's saying boy. Watch what i'm gonna do. I'm going to set up the colts for failure now. I don't think i think that he had to process this. It took a long time. It's something you do you do well. It's your identity and maybe he doesn't want that is his identity and can you get away from this. You know the guys who had all the surgeries. I'm seeing all of this stuff here. Everybody's saying how do you do. I understand all of those emotions. Russians here but andrew lock did what andrew lucked thought he needed to do. If barry sanders was a quarterback and he walked away we would have abba bigger issue with what barry sanders did at age thirty-one calvin johnson at aged thirty. Jim brown age thirty. What are you doing walking away from the sport. Guess you've got a contract extension. There are a lot of questions. I have ranted you luck in this situation. When did you really know and when did you let the cold snow and what is the reason. Is there more surgery down. The road like you went through shoulder. You had and i put some of this on the colts by the way ryan grigson in particular the former g._m. What did i say for years. You have this investment. It's like having this unbelievable engine but then you have a car that's falling apart. You traded for trent richardson. You didn't use any lyman you finally went out and got quinton nelson and what happened. Andrew luck had the best season of his career. He had the fewest sacks. It's not something that takes a whole lot of thought. Hey how about we have a good offensive line. Chances are andrew. Luck might be able to play play a little bit longer but so many injuries and then you start to get down on yourself and you get in your head and you don't wanna go through it and and i look i couldn't play the game. I've told you if you ever watched a game on the sidelines. You never let your kids play. It is violent. It's more violent than you think because when you hear it you can close your eyes on the sidelines just listen. There's no way you go yep. I want to play play. I know we're macho. I know we all wanna play through pain. I did stupid things with my knee and my shoulder waited thirty five the years to get my torn rotator and i'm not even a pro athlete. I have an artificial knee because i was stupid when i played this guys out there and they're taking shots at him. He's getting hit lacerated kidney. He's got shoulder. He's got yeah. I understand all of these injuries. Do we want him out there. Yes because it's about us he. What are you doing to my fantasy team. Hey what you doing to my colds. You're you guys got a chance to. I understand hold loose things but this is something that we don't understand an athlete who says i'm gonna take a logical approach. He's a guy he's got a flip phone. He's got a book club. I mean he he's not your normal guy. Hi and we can't understand this. He's newly married. We can't understand this because all of us would go. I killed a play and make that kind of money and be a starting starting quite yes. This story is about us in how we perceive. This people didn't play wanna tell you they would play or how oh you need to play or. What's wrong with your your soft. You gotta take a step back and andrew luck. Doing i see all of this twitter chatter. Oh this is going to stay with him forever. I is very sanders. A quitter calvin johnson a quitter. Is jim brown a quitter right i. I haven't heard that i'd never heard somebody say. Jim brown's a quitter. Barry sanders quit walked down on the <hes> the lines how can you do. I guess andrew luck is a quitter but i'm guessing will move past this calvin johnson. Is he a quitter or see smart. I don't know i just i saw this reaction this vitriol that andrew luck how dare you do for this. He walked away from his team. I get i get it. He gave up on a sport. He excels at but no matter what people say. I think we can all agree. Andrew luck was outstanding when he did play and wishing luck and no pun intended with his life after football.

"There was also another store it had to do with the n._c. Double a. an agent eligibility polity story and i don't know if you're interested in this but maybe the interesting part is lebron. James thinks that this is the rich paul rule and of course <hes> you oh that's his agent rich. Paul rich paul represents anthony davis john wall draymond green ben simmons and others the n._c._a._a. Says its athletes must use only the an n._c._a._a. Certified agent considering whether to enter the n._b._a. Draft to return to college basketball if not the player will lose eligibility permanently for the agent to gain that n._c._a._a. Approval he or she must among other things have been certified by the n._b._a. Players association for at least three years have a bachelor's degree provides seven years of address history had come to indianapolis to take an in person test of some sort. What what is that what's. It's the in person test well an exam. Let all right one to take an exam of being an agent i i. I have one question about this and if somebody from the n._c._a._a. Would join us. That would be great. Why now why not last year ten years ago fifteen year way. When did you really start caring about these basketball players and why bring it up now. Yes mclovin isn't that piece of the rule change about going back into college after the draft. I mean if you have all these requirements. It's to basically represent somebody who's probably going to be a second round draft. Pick right right. Can my parents represent me. What do they have to get certified. You know i don't know if i'm just kind of baffled by this that why now and why do we care so so much about basketball players probably because they're the ones that are stirring a multibillion dollar business called. March madness got to do what we can. We gotta keep them in school. We don't want to get them to the n._b._a. Too soon we got to protect our brackets here

"You love. Mark Lee Sherman. It's thumbing for him. I really believe that. Yeah. Okay. Mark leash. Mun is off the board. Mclovin. I Justin Thomas, Justin Thomas is on the board seat. No Connor back to check. I really liked Zander sharply, by the way. Yeah, that was my guy. Okay. My go Patrick can't Lee. And and, and. Can't play. I'm gonna take him giggling. Layup. Chris Berman would say, okay, can't lane who. Tommy fleetwood. Yes. I thought you would take hang farewell. Jesus, would you do it? All right. Mclovin, I'll take Tony female Tony FINA. Right manda. I'm gonna go Francesco Molinari. I knew you were going to do that. And paulie wanted Frencesco mon- on eight already made a jersey. All right. Paulie? Bring this guy back out of the mothball Jason day day with Tigers old caddy on the bag. Frizzle is Jay. I'm going to grab Jon Rahm Jon Rahm. I'll go with the man who looks better than his swing. But his swing is one of the best looking ones on tour. I'll take Adam Scott and then I'm gonna follow that one up. God, I'd love to go. Brench snout occur after the way played over the week and snatches we like to call him. Hey, sned. You don't have a lot of great nicknames on tour, MandA, by the way, you know, like leftover. Phil mickelson. Come on. You guys. He's trying to make their way Jesus. The thing and I don't think it's thing I think you've got to come up with a military negative. Well, we're in a PC world. So I can't imagine that Joe buck this weekend would say, and let's go out to eighteen for Jesus here with his second show. Just I can't imagine Jim Nance sang that on CBS broadcast. No. I can't either. So. I'm going to hate myself here. I wanna do Webb Simpson again. I I'll be grudgingly, take a decade. Mazzi yamane. It's so boring. So that is that it you got to great picks. I do. Yeah. Okay. Is that is there, another round here when we're okay, go ahead? Guys. I'm going to go with bracing Shambhu for my land. All right. All right. All right. Who's next? Volley not a great Tipper but a great player. Mccutcheon coots. Oh, wow. Amanda, I think you're next. Yeah. You know, I'm gonna go with the big guy here does EFI barn. Route. Scientists there Anderson. Yes, I'm gonna go old favorite of mine. Mr. Jim furic, who I believe, is in the field, so you have picked Feerick when he had been feeling wanted to majors. You're very loyal to Jim furic. I came up to us at Pebble Beach super nice guy says he said, thank you for picking me and majors that I didn't compete in Seton O'Connor with the last pick go with one of my other sleepers here, Dan, see Kim see Kim hundred and fifty to one sT gone Kim junior, the third. How would you assess Tigers game here? Amanda going into this. Yeah. Listen. I, I will tell you when I spoke in at the memorial and, you know, he was extremely happy with where his game was coming into form on Sunday. And I do them off camera, I said, are you ready for pebble in? He gave me the biggest mile in bed. Absolutely. Many kinda I it reminded me of the same sort of calm excitement that he showed during the masters all week. And I really kind of like he he's ready to do this again. So I think he learned a lot about what he needed to do to get ready after, you know, the PGA championship performance he wasn't happy about that. But it's a learning curve for him of, how do you not play a whole lot? But still, be ready to peak, you know, four four the major, so I think he has figured this out. He thinks super confident at the memorial obviously, this is the place that he knows how to win on like most places on the PGA tour. So I think there's no way you can count tiger out this week. Thank you. Amanda have fun this week. Thank you guys. Talk to, you know, MandA valley onus from us. CBS sports covering Gulf,.

"A couple more phone calls that it's asked for tomorrow off. So they could rest up for next week at the start of the season. They already cited load management here and I said, okay, they got practice game after the show preseason is what this is now. We're not going to be like the NFL and look to expand the regular season, the NFL still throwing this out there eighteen games for the regular season. I think it's a tough sell you know they keep trying to say, hey eighteen games but then they're worried about player safety can have both and what you're what you're saying to the players. How much are you willing to take how much money are you willing to take to forego your health in the future? If you wanna play eighteen games schedule, what's it going to take? And that's what it's going to come down to. But I think it's going to be a hard sell for the players from what I'm told the NFL has come to the players, sociation awhile ago and wanted to get a deal done and players, sociation say hold on. Hold on. But if you're going to be adding more games, I think seventeen is a real possibility but I think eighteen would be a hard sell. But that's what we're looking at. Yeah. Mclovin wouldn't players if there was enough money about what they want the extra revenue. Because it adds revenue, they get the same cut. I would take a lot of players say for a million or two million or three million. Yeah. Played extra gate but I don't know how much everybody's getting and it's really hard to stay healthy and entire season. How many quarterbacks play all sixteen games during the regular season? It's really rare or at least it's been rare. Now I know we're protecting. The quarterbacks. But then you have these other position players where you know, they're banging heads every single play for eighteen games..

"The Dan Patrick show, foresight, sports dot com. That's F, O, R, E site, sports dot com. Mclovin, just sent me something I was talking about Kevin Knox with the Knicks there's a stat called real, plus minus, it's important to a lot of these front office guys, st- they cover analytics. I not sure what real plus minus means I guess, when you're on the floor it is your team a plus are they getting plus points? And then if you're not on the floor, you know, is it a, plus or minus excuse them? Yeah. Okay. I guess what it means is are you? You a benefit to your team when you're playing when you're on the floor guests who ranks five hundred fourteenth out of five hundred and fourteen players in the NBA with real, plus minus Salo to Kevin Knox of your New York, Knicks, yeah. Most approve player next year, you can't help but be the most improved player, I get the feeling the Knicks might not have a single player, they wanna keep here, but Kevin knocked has the worst, plus minus of any player in the NBA five hundred fourteen out of five hundred fourteen this guy's, plus minus is through the roof. He's doc Emmerick, the lead play by play announcer for NBC's NHL coverage. He'll be on the call game to blues Bruins tomorrow night, eight or non NBC. He's won the sports, EMMY, I believe six times doctrines down the program. Good morning, doc. How are you? I'm good. Outhouse you I don't know. I think it'd be an interesting contest duck. "I know. Yeah, I'll one of those paid if the af. Yes, fritzy, I apologize. I distract the seat moments ago when you went to him because I was bragging about how actually our team won that exhibition game yesterday. Oh you guys still while I'm talking to him. You're trying to your show. I'm trying to get attention. I pulled his attention away to talk about us winning. All right. Final hour of the program poll question. Mclovin, it has to do with Klay Thompson. Klay Thompson more overrated underrated seventy eight presidents as underrated. The reason why we brought this up is he found out live. He was being interviewed by the media yesterday found out. He wasn't on the first team. Second team third team all NBA, and that cost him close to thirty million dollars. At least people ten show for a supermax contract with the Golden State Warriors, and that would've worked out to about two hundred and twenty one million dollars. Instead. He's going to have to get by on a five year one hundred ninety one million dollar contract. I have a problem with the media voting on this, because some members of the media, probably are very serious about it, and other ones are giving out second team all NBA, Dwayne Wade, and first team, all defense to James harden, in some of these guys picking and choosing if they're having fun and some guys taken very seriously. But there's a lot of money at stake, and the future of these players with some of these teams is at stake, believe it or not. Because you go back to Paul George had Paul George Ben, I think on the first second or third team all NBA. He would have gotten a supermax deal from the Pacers, and it probably would have been tougher for him to wanna leave. Now, you could have done the sign in trade with supermax deal. But, you know, there is there's more at stake here than just, hey, I got the designation of first second or third team. Lebron James third team all NBA. But your first team was the Greek freak in James harden. They were you. Ananymous by the way, Steph curry Paul, George and the joker Nikola Jokic from the nuggets that rounds out your first team. But we talked about Klay Thompson, and I've mentioned I think Klay Thompson has the best of both worlds. You get to play with a great team. You're not the go to guy. You don't get blamed when you lose you get praised when you win when you contribute. But he's a great player. Great two way player. He's right there with Paul George in my opinion. But doesn't make the all NBA team in Cairo made. It you can question that I guess a little bit with his lack of leadership. If you want to throw that in Kemba Walker got in there. I it's a nice tip of the cap to Kemba with what he's doing while he sort of mired in mediocrity with the Hornets there. And I wonder if he continues to stay with the with the Hornets this day in sports history, Satan, do you have that for me since police, not here? And then we'll get to a couple of phone calls. I should do k four. Interesting things today, and we even have a actually this day in show history to, if we're you, okay. Nineteen fifty one Willie Mays began playing with the New York Giants. Interesting nine hundred sixty four Lima, Peru, a riot, followed an unpopular ruling by a referee and a soccer game between Peru and Argentina more than three hundred people were killed and five hundred injured. Holy moly could you imagine that happening in soccer? Yes. What that's crazy. Oh, that's.

Lebron put together a team with second tier guys like not secondary Kemba Walker the center from Orlando one of the issues skies. Yeah. Is it possible that the west looks a lot different last year and LeBron doesn't necessarily need an Anthony Davis. But Golden State is still going to be very good. Houston is going to be good. What LeBron needs is shooters in each shooters? And for some reason they didn't put shooters on the team this year. I don't know why they didn't. But they didn't put shooters on the tape. Yes, volley. I just checked the Space Jam to IMDB, Dan, the only people credited to be part of the cast right now is OJ Jackson junior son of ice cube the Bron James Charles Barkley is listed as a cast member. I don't know if that's in a reaction to our interview from a half an hour ago. And then the only current slash former NBA player. Shawn bradley. Well, that's he was in the first one. Okay. I I miss that. Yeah. Also, maybe they left that story line open from the first space jams, and we wanna find out what happens to Shawn Bradley is a kids movie or a kid's adult hybrid movie. I Charles Barkley made it sound like it was a kids movie. I never saw spaceships. Yes. Yes. A kids movie. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Mcleod, who is an interesting thing in the first one all the stars like Patrick Ewing, lose their powers and Shawn Bradley went method actor and played the entire NBA season. Without he actually why come on five visa Sixers spent the number two pick on. Why aren't why are you picking on Shawn Bradley his fault? Sixers were stupid ago. Remember had that highlight where he's dribbling down of core. Yes. E y you, and I know you it out interview. Like, I was so he's seven seventy do everything. Now. I honestly thought Shawn Bradley was going to change the NBA. I did I because you had a guy who was seven six had a handle great touch shoot a fifteen footer and it didn't work out. Plus, I think he weighed about as much as I did. So that didn't help him either. Yes. He did change NBA. He allowed to every guy linked to dunk over a seven six guy for once in their life. It was where you had a poster of somebody dunking, and somehow Shawn Bradley was always in the poster dunked on like, and I used to think that they were Shawn Bradley posters. I'm like, oh, I got my Shawn Bradley poster. No, that's corron Butler dunking on him. Oh, I thought it was Shawn Bradley getting dunked on that was his poster Radley's got so many posters here this corron Butler opposed. I don't think so. I think he's got new hair though, I think Koran Butler showed up on TV and he had like new hair. That's exciting. Yeah. Is kids didn't even know about it. They're like oh look at dad got got a new hairdo there. Yeah. Paulie? Why don't you get in on Space Jam to they they did have some media people in Space Jam one?.

"But if you have that hat can be a pitcher and a hitter, then the curiosity factor is still there. Yeah. Mclovin. Aaron judge is one of the. Yeah. Aaron judge because of his size and how far he hits a baseball. But I don't know what his personality is. You know, it's Bryce Harper is pushing this a little bit, and Scott Boris is certainly trying to sell this. But when you I don't want Zack greinke at thirty four million. It feels like if you get to that point. I there's something else than just a good baseball player. I'm a good pitcher. I'm good hitter. What else? Do you have? Yeah. Fritzy? But that's got a fascinating too. When you're looking at you can get a great player who's got really no personality just goes about his business or an above average player. That's wildly flamboyant. Like, what does the average team or GM when you're trying to look to sell? Tickets which direction you go. Well, might transit better player. But Bryce Harper's a better brand. And Bryce Harper is going to make the Phillies relevant. They're going to be on national TV, you're going to tune in to see them. You know, the difference in is I sometimes look at Julio Jones. He would be Mike trout, and then I look at odle Beckham junior. And he would be Bryce Harper. It's a brand look at that guy. He's incredible. He's so much fun. His locked to be a hall of Famer well on his way. I mean, his numbers for his age or crazy. Yeah. Paulie? He is not even close. If you look at the numbers that take where the star power. He's had one great season out of seven Bryce Harper. I look he's very good. But it it just doesn't compare Bryce Harper has won MVP has been top ten in the MVP porting voting once in his career in seven years compare that to alva- pools, our PU. Holes in his first seven years. He was top ten for MVP seven out of seven years. Mike trautmann's? I seven years was top ten Fram. VP us six of the seven years. It's really that close. He's got one hundred eighty four homers, and he's twenty six that's a really good trajectory, and also, but what home runs matter anymore. Yeah. I mean, total do they matter like last year, for example, like he was getting pitcher rally he had the highest one of the highest on base percentages. But he strikes out all the time. What's trout got Charleston trout's in the hall of fame if you but but Harper is going to be compared to Mike trout. Contemporaries. But you say he's not a great player that dude one and MVP, obviously is a certain level. He had a great. I said he has the potential to be great. I don't think he's a great player. He's only injury prone. That's the only. Well, okay. Do you get healthier as you get older? That's the problem. It's not production production when he's healthy while it consisted is really good. "Mclovin. Then sent me something from the the Boston Globe. Ben vol-. In one aspect that. I believe prevented the patriots from making any trades today was that they seem to be collecting draft picks for twenty nineteen and trading them away with the idea of taking a quarterback. They currently have a one to two and three and possibly to more compensatory threes here as the patriots could be loading up to finally draft. Tom Brady's successor. So that was a different take on this with the patriots. And would they do something where they're going to add gold intake because I thought they were going to get golden take. And I still thought that there was a chance they would do something defensively. I've is told that Jacksonville wasn't gonna deal. Dante Fowler to the patriots. If they were interested in Dante found yes, boy, I'll season we heard that. The only thing the Rams don't have is edge rusher. Defensive tackles Dante follow off the bench last year for Jacksonville had eight sacks. If he can if he can regroup, and they basically got him for almost nothing. That's that's. Huge if he ends up because he's twenty four years old. They got a guy who was top ten draft pick for basically nothing. Yeah. I like the move. But the Rams are all in. Now, the Rams were trying to get Khalil Mack. Even for one year. I mean that if I'm a fan base, I'm going whatever, it takes could you imagine? If the Rams had Coloma just for one year. Because you want to win that Super Bowl. You know, any if you have that opportunity, and if you're looking at the Rams member when the season started we're looking at Green Bay, and Minnesota they're going to do it out who were going to be the other teams that we're going to be really competitive in the NFC in the Rams looked at this and said, all right? We might have to deal with Minnesota might have to deal with the saints, but we can win this thing we can go to the Super Bowl and by all accounts. That's where they're headed. Jared Goff will join us in an hour. Yes, are yes. Mclovin. I read a few things that one of the reasons Fowler was on the outs and Jacksonville is he's had some locker room issues, and the Sean McVeigh's now a assu and Fowler on that line. That McVeigh has a lot of confidence that that's not going to be an issue. I mean would that explain why? Because otherwise why this guy out there? He's clearly can Russia passer. Yeah. But he wasn't a starter. Right. And that's probably why wasn't know good locker room guy. He had one start in three years and from Jack. Ville standpoint. I mean, how much drama have they had had extent. Are they they're sellers? Right. Yes. And you know mess. I text mclovin yesterday. I think Jacksonville was taken a flyer on some quarterbacks around the league..

"Mclovin put up the poll question. Are the analytics hurting the game, a lot of tweets here. Paul Severino who's the Marlins play by play guy, weighed in. Strategically, it'd be stupid not to utilize the massive amounts of great information, terms of entertainment, killing it balls, never in play game loaded without lettuces them, rarely do you see it on display. Bob convert? Yes, yes, yes. They made the game boring for fans even die. Hard fans by encouraging a dull style of play, devalued guys who can actually hit pitchers who can actually pitch of taking the job of managing away from managers and put it into the nerds hands. Hey, hey, hey, Bill, dubs, tweets, yes. Analytics are to be input to the coaching staff for decision making purposes as other things during the game analytic shouldn't displace all the other things that help meander through game strategy or eliminate situational hitting. Let's see. Be saw a four, seven analytics are fine. But the danger is they can prevent conic moments like Bucky dent or Kirk. Gibson home runs. Z. Schreiber analytics only work when the odds are spread out over long season doesn't work in a one game or seven game situation. C. j. d. s. p. n. radio, yes, might as well play the games on XBox. I'm sure fans were expecting to see Chris sale in Clayton Kershaw pitch past the fourth inning where they weren't pitching well, but sometimes you'll get. I one of my favorite pitchers of all time is Jack Morris. And you know if you've listened to this show the last fifteen years. I've campaigned for Jack Morris to be in the hall of fame because what Jack Morris did was he would take the ball even if he didn't have great stuff, but he would eat up innings. If he gave up four runs, he didn't care. It was about nine innings. It was about. I'm gonna give you as much as I can give you. I'll take the stress off the bullpen. I'm not afraid of a big moment in Jack Morris was one of those guys. He was the ace for three different teams at one World Series, and he wanted the ball in a big time situation and it wasn't all on a pitch count, or I gave up four runs or get me out of here. I don't have my best off. I don't want to be embarrassed. Jack Morris went out there and said. What do you need me to do? And I'll do my best to give that to. This is from Randy MacLean, be fully not to take advantage of the data and technology that exists today. That said, I still think the best teams would use a blend of analytics and good old fashioned baseball skills since I still think it comes down to to trust my manager in in a, you know, just a gut feeling situation. And there are moments when you hear a manager say, I just had a feeling about him today, whether it's a pitcher, whether it's a pinch hitter, whether it's regular position guy, I had a feeling and that's what I love. Because I think if you like, Joe, Joe Girardi used to have this notebook. I mean, he had the binder that was huge and it was you become robotic and that's what I worry about with the game. Yeah, club. Move the football for a second and Alexei gopher to in that situation where Mike variable and the titans went for two against charges. But I felt like watching it all the momentum said, don't go for two. Why? Because they were. They were winning the second half against the chargers. They were going to win that game. And I thought if you go into overtime, the titans were playing better than the chargers and they were going to win. I know we get caught up into you. Go for two when you go for to..

"Then that's another thing. But it just didn't feel like that. That was just hey, that's cut and dried he may have looked at it and said, we're not sure, but we think he was going to catch it. So the righteous thing to do would give them credit for like the catch almost by enforcing the rule. I'd love to hear the conversation. You thought he was going to catch it. Yes. I think a lot of people thought. Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. My Mookie is going to catch it. But I did think it was a homeless. He almost got it. What else? Do we have mclovin? Okay. What Milwaukee did with it? Starting pitcher pulling him after one batter is that gamesmanship smart gains manship or is that I'm looking for word here tacky or well. Actually, I'm going to guess in the unwritten rules of baseball that have yet to be written down that it would probably be like. Maybe tacky. But I thought it was great strategy on council part. Absolutely. You're okay with it. Yes. Absolutely. I want to win the dodgers didn't know what was coming. John Smoltz in the broadcast booth. Didn't nobody knew what was coming. And then you're going to load your lineup because this is all strategy here. You know, when do I get to my bullpen who am I bringing in who can I use after thirteen inning game? Who do you have on the bench? Are you going to run out of players? Like, this is the strategy. That's being played here. The only issue that I had was you have to be a hundred percent right because you're going against Kershaw. Now council might have looked at this and said, you know, Kershaw had to pitch out of that inning where he got the strike out and what second inning. But after that. You know, he realized Kershaw was dealing and your margin of error was shrinking rapidly. And the dodgers got a couple of hits there. And then all of a sudden you start to blow it open there. But I I have no problem with Craig count. I'm not going to second guess him at all. Because it almost worked. What else? Do you have? Okay. I have a couple wild crazy overreactions opening night in the NBA if you'll allow me, okay? Is the NBA coach of the year contest over David Fidel. The Knicks has won it whenever the Knicks ever scored forty nine points at a quarter ever whether facing the hawk I know, that's the other one was I'll give you the Andrey Eytan or the field for rookie of the year after one one night who do you got eight and is going to put up numbers he has to you expect him to. But is he going to be an eighteen ten guy the entire season? And I'm just curious the development of a team that doesn't have a point guard in its young team. And sometimes everybody wants to be a star in a situation like that. But I think Phoenix is building something. I don't know exactly what they're building it help if they had a point guard, but eight Aden's ready to go. What happens is you'll see some of these guys that by the second half of the season. Then they start to understand the game. It slows down and then you're going to see somebody emerge. That you didn't think was going to be a star. Yeah. We saw that with Utah last year. It just there's certain time. Plus when you see these guys because you're not going out of your way to watch the Utah Jazz. And if there's a national TV game, which is rare, you know, then you might it's it's like, you know, if the jazz play the Lakers, then you might go. Oh, wow. I didn't know they have the stifled tower in here. He's pretty good. Josh Rosen tonight gets his chance because it's the cardinals by the way the cardinals ranked last in their conference in points passing yards rushing yards. The last team to rank dead last in its own conference in all three of those categories over a full season two thousand to Houston Texans that was their first season as a franchise. Days.

"Somebody's a little sensitive today. Mclovin is having a pity party here. I'm fine. No, I don't know. We kind of called your bluff a little bit on the Tom Brady system quarterback. And then you said that you never said he was assistant system quarterback and Seton did a little research and we have an I team investigation. And now go to the newsroom for an investigation. The motto of our news team is we don't break news. We sprayed it. Let's go to the newsroom point. Dan to recap over the past eleven years. Mclovin has accused some peel VM system quarterbacks benefiting from being in a system, etc. Etc. I think that's fair to say. Yeah, and last-second including Joe Montana, which he said to his face. Yeah, and responded by saying I afford to his face and then exactly. Yeah. Last segment, Andrew went against the grain said, Tom Brady is not a system quarterback, and he doesn't really think he's ever been assistant. Correspondent O'Connor has more all right. Yes. You because I think it's been making that case for like the last ten years, Tom Brady, he's like the poster child of being a system quarterback in interested. I never said that you guys said that guy, and would you find so Google to Andrew Pearl of system quarterback. A lot of results and an article called an inconvenient truth comes up in the first line is Mr.. Perfect. Was Mr. average in Super Bowl, blah, blah, blah. And then when you go down, it says, even with the record and accolades Brady is a system quarterback boy, that must have been the editor. He. Explanation. I shouldn't say obviously. Wow. Obviously mclovin. That was ten years ago. I've evolved my system quarterback takes that these, so he's not a system quarterback. He doesn't have like what his offense. I don't even know what you call it. It doesn't have like a classic system. So I was wrong radio's not a system quarterback because it feels like they've won with a variety of shapes and sizes at wide receivers and running backs and tight ends offense. Everything's been interchangeable. They're paulie helped me out in the break. He. He said, the reason people under breeze drew breeze feels like a run and shoot quarterback, like kind of like the Warren Moon, Jim Kelly, just like an offense. It puts up big numbers indoors. There's just a vibe around breeze. It may not be accurate by think. That's why the perception around breeze is a little bit less than the top three guys have all time Yashwant, but you would think drew Brees having so many attempts would have a lower percentage passing percentage. He actually has one of the great passing percentage of history. He's led the league in completion percentage, four times. He's a sixty seven percent career. Passer, compare that to Andrew luck whose. Like fifty seven. So Brees is mastered the system even without another Super Bowl. He's probably he's certainly a top ten quarterback. Does he get bonus points perception wise for being small? No, it feels like it's used against him that you just refuse to acknowledge that somebody that small can be one of the great quarterbacks of all time. I, I don't think we look at it and go, yeah, you know what?.

"They did not, but that was a different era, maybe? Yeah, was Darryl green. One of the nicest people that I've ever met let alone athletes he, he was a if you could be a polite defensive back of play corner. Fastest man in the game, champ Allie was professionally should say that they were professionals that they respected you and you respected them and I'm talking about receivers, quarterbacks, they respected those players? Yes, mclovin I agree with everything you guys are saying, but they're also chance of trying to get in quarterbacks heads get a competitive advantage, hey, this guy's gonna come up against me and he's going to be thinking that I don't think he's, I think. Do you think Joe flacco is really going to go to the line of scrimmage going, you know, screw the playbook. I'm going after noticing, but I think Josh Allen who's of rookie it is probed by nature rookies are a little insecurities could be like, oh, man, this guy thinks I stink. He's going to go out there. It's going to be in his head. There are a lot of guys who probably said publicly. They questioned Josh Allen going that high to the Buffalo Bills, but look at Blake Bortles. I feel like his confidence was shook by everybody questioned him. I mean, I think like maybe they're trying to get in these QB's had not that it's easy to do, but well, let's put it this way. If Jalen Ramsey doesn't have these opinions than g cues, not doing an article in Jalen Ramsey now he mission accomplished. They got somebody who's going to quote something in their magazine and Jalen Ramsey got national publicity that that's that's what you're looking for. That's the game plan, mission accomplished there and Jalen Ramsey the they'll be a window here. Just like there was for Richard Sherman member, Richard Sherman, bad dude. Now, all of a sudden Richard Sherman. All right. What what he's gonna do when his football career is over, you don't look at him the same way that five year window at those positions where you can do all the talking, you want, you can taunt, you can be the man, but then all of a sudden you're going to slow down. On defense, not as formidable, get nicked up. Maybe you run into a quarterback who picks on you a little bit. It will happen. It happens to every single one of them. Well, ninety, nine percent of them, but that'll happen which alien Ramsey they better be great here. Yeah, they better be. You know, you're, you're a couple of plays from going to the Super Bowl. All right. You're sort of in that same position with the Minnesota Vikings, you better be good mclovin. The Rams happened. Interesting. Parent. I keep to leave and Marcus Peters. They talked to. Yeah, Yep. And they're really, they're both all pros to. They're both amazingly good can be really good for you. It could be really bad for you. Those two first team all combustible and Donna consumer Donald, not being there. Yes, that I did have a poll question to the Browns the most interesting team, but you kind of got me thinking about the Rams to I think the Rams have the potential to be interesting for all the wrong reasons. 'cause Jared, Goff is not a quote machine. Kupa cop is not either Sean McVay we love you know, his energy, enthusiasm, Todd, Gurley. You know, what did he say? Hey, I think he talked about he'd like to make an NBA contract where I made eighty like that. That's as controversial as as he gets, but that defense, that's where Wade Phillips gonna earn his money this year, you keep moldy gather in his greatest weight is this might be as greatest accomplishment. If he's able to have that defense play the way it should live up to the hype and it would help if they got Aaron Donald back poll question mclovin, do you have one I want to put up? I did put up on Twitter actually are the Browns. Most interesting team seventy four percent. Say, no, that means twenty five percent think they are. But we have some other side questions like is Baker Mayfield confident or arrogant, and this is not based on hard knocks alone, but in general, it's a young guy like that confident or era Ghent because I would need to know the definition of arrogant..

Yes. So I got a three and thirteen four and twelve is that a hot take through three and four, three wins and four wins getting into play. All right. Anybody else a hot take? Yes, I want to hijack mclovin. I think the Cincinnati Bengals will make a wildcard. Okay. Wow. Mclovin right out from underneath you. Some people like don't and some people don't. Yeah, apparently, mclovin jumped off that bandwagon. I love the Bengals this year. Well, you didn't jump on Ben Wagoneer. Anybody else got a hot take on who is going to the surprise team going in. The chargers are not a surprise team going in with the Oakland Raiders be a surprise because two years ago, everyone loved them. They were six and ten, they'll let. A moderate surpri modern mclovin. What do you think of the Detroit Lions surprise factor there bit pinned in by the Packers and the Vikings, but some people think Patricia is going gonna, be great. There. They got Stafford. I'm not saying picking them, but his that hot, that's haunt. It's warm. I got hotter one for you. The bears making the playoffs that's hot. I can't even handle them. Smith is in camp. That's all they needed. And that division? Yeah. All right. Anybody else got a hot take kids. We know that four teams are going to go in and four coming out at least Packers it Fritz just take cue. I thought that the second coming up, I don't know who wants to jump on. I'm not on the Niner bandwagon. I, I don't see the magic this year. Yes for it. So what about Sam darnold jets, especially if the patriots are going to have this horrible season coming up here comes Donald in saying it, are you just throwing it out? I'm kind of throwing it out, but wouldn't that be great. Not what we're doing here. Great. I told you the Packers, ravens charges, and giants are all going to make the plans, dear unity, great. If the Browns made the playoffs, that'd be really Craig about the five, eleven Broncos making the playoffs that's hot. Oh. Just throwing it out there. You know what? I think here we go. I'm banned from the sex next year. You're you're not allowed to talk about the Broncos until they win a regular season. Okay. Longtime, he had might be really long. You can't talk about the Broncos till they win a game. Okay. Have until case keenum gets a first down. Oh God, they should. They should put him in there. You. So that's so, oh, I was mean to just brought up. You brought up the first two series of a preseason. Gotta people were talking about a lot of people in my circles. Anyone who. "Junior the third we also got on the topic of russell wilson mclovin said first ballot hall of famer right now if his career ended first ballon hall of fame while did i say that exactly yes no i think he probably would be a hall of famer but he will end up being a first bound hall fame but that's my contention that's what i want to go with does he and his career seattle no because he might get a championship i don't get another championship in seattle but if he goes to another team he's a free agent in twenty twenty and then maybe you'll go to a team where he can win another championship but seattle sata i wonder how competitive seattle is going to be in the coming years yes ma'am i read too i believe we were looking to sat he led the league touchdowns last you know but i think that was because they never gave it to a running back down there they didn't have any running backs but it's getting better so i think he has a good chance i still every time i'd want seattle be like nine six going into the fourth quarter and then all of a sudden you know you'd have to go all right let me see if i can score some touchdowns here oklahoma city not done yet but they're down three one to the utah jazz first round series in that means we could see an end to that oklahoma city experiment and it seems like a long time ago that they were going to form their version of a super team with russell westbrook poll george carmelo anthony but so far their prime example or the latest example of why talent doesn't attala alone doesn't win in the nba the jazz have this combo platter young players journeymen but they have chemistry here they got a great coach they do what the thunder don't do they moved the ball.
