Fresh update on "mcdavid " discussed on Schlereth and Evans

"To Denver, Alex Gibbs, the offensive line, and even Mike would tell us, we had John Elway. You guys set the tone. Our office will be the practice or not practice will based on the tone you set up front. And I believe that about every football team. You set the tone up front both D line wise in O line wise. And if you can't dominate that facet of the game, you can't set a tone. It's really hard to set a tone outside the numbers, right? In the periphery, the ball handlers. It's really hard to set that tone because the tone gets set through physicality. And if you're getting your butt whipped on every gun on one of every two dropbacks, if you're not setting the tone in the running game, it's really it's really difficult. Yeah, and the other concern is all these guys on offense are just looking at rust like Russ will do it. Don't worry, Russ will do it. One of the great things about covering you guys back when you were winning back to back, man, you walked into your locker room, and there were, well, to steal a line from a key to lead, there were dogs all over the place. There were leaders all over the place. Yeah, you had John freaking elways your quarterback. Right. But at times, you'd walk around that room, you wouldn't even know John was there. But, you know, there's outsized personalities like Shannon. And rod, and just pros like, you know, Howard Griffith and that's just on the offensive side of the ball. And then all you guys down there in the corner in the old line. So it wasn't like everybody on that offense was like, well, don't worry, John will take care of it. No, you guys all, you had plenty of guys. Who knew how to lead and to take control and to get in people's butts if needed be and you wonder if this offense has any of those guys? Yeah, I think that's part of that's part of the developmental phase and you just can't. You can't allow one dude. You can't let it all fall in one dude's shoulders. He can. But you know, it's hard when you don't have an established group up front either. You know, when you're like rotating guys and you don't have one group that says this is these are our guys and you're still waiting for some injured guys to come back and play and that's hard to do. Well Peterson writes at Denver fan dot com about how it's time for the avalanche to pay Nathan McKinnon whatever price he's asking. He talked a little bit about this yesterday in the wake of our avalanche insider Adrian dater writing that indeed Nathan McKinnon wants to become the highest paid player in the NHL and if you're looking at Connor McDavid's 8 year 100 million 12 and a half million per year contract as the standard bearer, you know, can you afford in a tight salary cap world like the NHL? Can you afford to pay Nathan McKinnon that money? Will says, yeah, give him whatever he wants and in this case I completely agree with scrappy will. He's earned the right to be the highest paid player in the NHL? You make him the highest paid player. And you know what? Ultimately, it's a feather in the cap of the organization. Once it gets done, I believe it will get done, Mike. It's a feather in the cap because. You do it the right way. You play the game the right way. And there was no question. You know, going into that series against the oilers where everybody's saying Connor McDavid is the best player in hockey. There is no question who the best player in hockey was when you put them in a side to side comparison, you want you talk about you talk about playing all 200 feet of the ice. On the defensive side and the effort that you give in the attraction that you are and the freeing up of other players that you create, there was no, there was no question in my mind watching that series like, you're just saying, this ain't close. So close. And will did a nice job of working the salary cap gymnastics as to how you can make 13 million per year fit. And you start looking around, yeah, they're paying in big money, car big money, landing big money, but you have enough contracts that you can have coming off the books, guys like Eric Johnson, maybe a JT comforter, you could trade eventually Samuel Gerard. He's a big ticket guy with over 5 million per year. And the avalanche have done such a great job under Joe sakic of layering their roster where yeah, you have the big star players, but you've also got these young players that are developing behind. Now you trust that the Alex new hooks of the world and the bow byrons of the world are really ready to step up and take, well, they roll. They did in the playoffs. That's why if you look at and say, okay, maybe if we need to move on with a Sami Gerard in order to be able to fit a Nathan McKinnon, we can do it and not miss a beat. Check all of the articles that Denver fan dot com were of course all the content is free. As we get set for the arrival of the Dallas Cowboys, who better to have on than former cowboy great, one of your Fox teammates in the broadcast booth. One of the other guys, it gets forgot all the time when they ask questions about back to back championships and they don't call on me or moose. Daryl moose Johnson joins us. Most good morning, thank you. Good morning. Yeah, we do seem to get left out of that way. Yeah, yeah, I mean, it is just atrocious. Now, you're a Syracuse guy. You know my partner, Mike here, is a Syracuse guy as well. And I was just wondering, you guys were on campus at the same time. And I was wondering, no, but I think we did bump into each other multiple times at Sutter's mill. No longer there. Very disappointing. No longer there. No longer no moose graduated. I was a sophomore. I got to watch moose play for a couple years. Did you ever try to get his autograph? I didn't make time. I never tried to get his autograph. No. Hello, mister Johnson. This is so much fun. Mister moose, can I get you? No, I never did. Okay. All right, good. So I know you're driving cross country, right? You're taking your daughter's Syracuse? Yeah, we're going to be hitting out a little bit later this morning. So, did I happily get the Nashville today? And then actually it's been great because I live about three and a half hours from there. So going back and forth a couple of times a year, I've got and see my mom and dad. On a much more regular basis. So it's worked out really well. Well, actually, most of this is kind of funny because my daughter is going to Syracuse as well. And I did that same exact thing last year for her freshman year, drove her across the country with all her stuff. So you're going to have a blast. It's a great, great job. You did Colorado to Syracuse. I did Colorado to Syracuse in two days. Nice. Where's your halfway point? It was it was in Illinois in basically where are you near there? Joliet. Illinois. I got half of that. I got to about Joliet before I said that's enough. That's awesome. And yeah, that's just an awesome. Hey, hey Musa, as we get ready here, cowboys 12 and 5 last year, which means, as you well know, they won't win the division. This year, because nobody's back to back division winner since Philly back in the early arts 2000 what four and 5 or something of that nature. So, but where are you with the cowboys right now? What do you think of them as a football team and kind of how they're constructed and what the Broncos

"To jump in front of you. No, I don't go right ahead. But basically they could have called up Hutchinson, but they would have had to send someone else down and they might have been exposed to somebody. So it's not that they couldn't call somebody up. They could have they just would have had to expose another player or move another player. So I have no sympathy for the least in this case. No. Me neither. Nobody else has seemed to have this problem. So, you know, maybe it's a leap thing. But remember with that soft cap also if you're overpaying that money, the Toronto Maple Leafs are 2 billion. So like some of that money is going to trickle down on these organizations that don't snap it around like that to where maybe they can strike when they're finally develop their prospects and say, all that money we got while these guys were fucking be in the Yankees, now we're making a work. I get that some people are like, no, I love the parody in the league, fuck off. I'm okay with that too, but there's got to be there's some solution in there that can come out. Are there people? Are there people who like there being a cap? I don't know any everyone hates the cap. Players hate the cap, fans hate the cap. Owners owners love the cap. She can't stand the cap. The cap sucks. With the cap will be here forever. It is never going anywhere. And my first year pro, 2005, that happened and it is here for good because owners do not want to lose money and the cap creates a way for them to be profitable and not lose millions and millions of dollars. The players lost that battle. It was split. It was an ugly, completely canceled season and in the end, the players all said, they'll never be a captain of your captain and recap. There's a cap. I think for that reason, there shouldn't be escrow. That's where I think that that's where I think that the league over. That's a different argument. But different arguments. And we can sum it up here. That's why I think overall the league is a little greedy in a sense. And that's a fuck yeah, the owners are greedy, dude. They always win. They always do, 'cause they get unlimited billions. They can sit on and wait for it. This is their hobby. Yeah. We got home. Did we go off the rails there? Was that kind of somewhat on top? I mean, it wouldn't be. We're off the rails. It's first week. We're hopping whatever pops into mine, games and storylines. I wore a whack a mole right now. I wore my camel because it's been an absolute war so far this season. Preseason in the intensity has led into some pretty aggressive situations on the ice. I mean battle of Alberta being one. McDavid. McDavid off to just buzzing start. They can quick, easy hat trick Edmonton looks nice, dude. Yeah, that game was nuts. You know they're always gonna go at it. What was the one hit that really? Anderson. That was a Vancouver versus Edmonton. That was the first one. Tyler Myers. I know all right, it's true. He's rounding the net and talk about a guy who's basically made it impossible to hit him throughout his career, Duncan Keith. Well, you know, the puck's a little bit out of reach. He sees Tyler Myers coming down 6 8 or whatever tall he is. And he takes a hit to make a play and moving the puck up to the winger, but got bundled. Buried, I believe he was bleeding and stuff like that. Yeah. You know what, on the bench, though, you see a guy take that hit to make that play. That's the little things that add up to create a successful team. So you've got to keep Duncan Keith healthy, but that just shows the type of balls he has, but he got crushed. And the fact that right away he gets up and doesn't let his opponent see defeat. That's fucking old school. That's what I love about that. You know what I'm saying? Like maybe these younger you know, there's some guys that are going to stay down. He's like, fuck you. I'm right back up. That didn't phase me. He caught me big fucking deal drop the puck. I was gonna call this. You can call it, I'm sorry, all right. You can call it old school Neanderthal thinking that all you pussy hockey fans nowadays think of me. If your leg, if your upper, if your lower body doesn't have an injury, like my dad told me, skate off the ice, it's pretty legit, man. You can get up and get off this concussions are a different story. Completely different. But for the most part, nonsense unless you're Keith. Get up and get off the ice. Very impressive to see this. Oh yeah, unless you're Duncan Keith, because he got rocked there and you know, you know, you don't want to go as black for a quick second and you're like, okay, we're back. That was played the next game, didn't he? Oh, she fucking. He was back out there that later that game. There was no concussion. Yeah, and how to like, it was almost like he appreciated the hidden, you know, some guys get up and they want to go after him. He kind of get up and was like, yeah, you know, he took his lump like a fucking NHL player shouldn't get back out there. Yeah, it was almost like he appreciated being hit that high, but I think, you know, he respected the fact that I've gotten into a game by getting lit up. You know, all you get, you take a pretty big hit early dude, you're into the game. Now, a lot of people would rather be the one who delivers a big hit to get himself in the game as I was never me. I was the guy who got run over to get woken up. You'd win the draw. You had gone just throw out my corner. Just get bundled. You get a DD. Was one of those times by the two by four that tripped you? No, no, that was just a fall. That wasn't being hit by someone. Well, that'll wake you up, though 'cause you're going crashing into the wall. That's a bit of a, I don't think I woke up that game. I really don't. I think I was just so embarrassed and disgusted with myself. Flurry was still pissed. But the one hit we were talking about was on Yamamoto. Was it not Anderson? I only saw a couple of angles of it. Some people said headbutt, some people said from a different angle, it looked like fists first. I don't know, man. You're a job out of the bit here. What do you think? Yeah, no, first off, when you said I wasn't thinking cocoa but he basically looked like he had my cocoa butt like the wild samoans used to back in the WWF. It did look like it from the first angle, but it looks like he actually punches him even before that. And then he kind of catches him with the headbutt. He didn't get suspended 5000 for rough and I don't know. I thought if he suspended him for it, it would have been maybe a little excessive. I mean, the guy finished the game. I don't think he was concussed, which is not used to seeing head butts. So I had no problem with no extra supplemental discipline. As for the game itself, Edmonton beat calorie, like I said, 5 two McDavid tenth Korea hat trick. He's already in 7th place for points in Edmonton's team history. Only three active players have more hat tricks than him. OV genome sit. Like, this is crazy. The guy hasn't been in the league all that long..

"You know the same reasons that people have for putting the cops below them And that they have put below them for the past. Few years are the same flows that the oilers currently have you know. Let's go over. They have a shit defense right. Besides darnell nurse. They really don't have much on the defensive end there's like oh even bear. Yeah i was gonna say it didn't get any better only got worse. This offseason exactly. They also have no bottom six. I mean what. They have worn fogel northbound six. And that's it. They're goaltending has also dog shit like this team has being slaughtered on because of mcdyess title and you know rightfully so yeah. They're amazing pieces. But i'm not convinced that they can continue to be the only good players on the team. You know this top six can't be the only good part of this oilers team in order for them to succeed especially when everyone's especially when everyone's playing each other you know they're not playing the same teams multiple times you know it's like they really won't have the top six and that's with the addition of hyman. You know. I mean if qatar yamamoto jesse puja. Rv they have good more. They have another good year. The sure yeah. Maybe maybe i could see them being like the bubble team because i do for them being bubble team but now the bubble team. Sorry like a wildcard team. I could see them being a wildcard cartoon. But i'm not convinced that they can have a solid year like to be at the top of the vision like everyone's production be second. I don't think that they're better than the flames. Connects or wriggled nights. I don't think surrogate team. So i i know people say 'cause mcdavid mcdavid effect i get it i get. How amazing mcdavid is he crack. One hundred forty points. That doesn't mean of this team is going to be good. No i one hundred percent agree with you. And i really wanna now hold the The point about the goaltending I think that's going to be A real sore spot for them and it's not like they have money to move and money to make a you know. Make a splash at the deadline. Because i i don't know what their prospects will be. I don't know about the pieces. And they definitely don't have the space of all the money that they're shelling out for guys like nurse and fucking mcdavid and tries. how so. it's just this team. I feel like getting stuck in the idea that like they're just going to. I don't wanna say overpay. 'cause mcdavid interest deserve the money that they're getting and dreidels definitely good value for what his contract is on a percent but the money that they're spending on these top players. It's just too much for you to build a team around them and It's getting to the point. Now where you know. You need for leinster role to be that team to be that great team you know. Yeah sure as you mentioned mcdavid could score one hundred forty points a season. But how is that gonna fair when he's outpacing everybody by two three four times. You know. it's not not really gonna help as you're not really gonna help this team out so And god forbid what if one of them gets injured..

"The sun is has wrecked the whole day. So i just it was. I watched the first period and it was just terrible hockey on top of everything else right so guys. We're falling a lot going through the neutral zone and all of a sudden they just they just dive. They look like they're diving onto their stomach. Because their skates had just run out of the ability to slide and so it was just a joke but it was dangerous. Guys were like almost taking headers into the inboards. But the hockey itself take away all the falls and all the mo the near dangerous moments. It was terrible hockey because the puck wasn't sliding rights and the guys were afraid to really hard because they know at some point they have to come to a sudden stop so they're really kind of playing gingerly out there because they knew that if they had to stop it probably showed the ice down right down to the base. Blow out their knee or something like that. So it's just a terrible terrible bit hockey I appreciate the nhl wanting to try something a little different particularly because they won't get a chance to do this again but it was a mass to be honest. Well they're onto something with the location of this thing. Right was like wow what a what a great idea to throw this thing into the mountains because of the beauty and the and the you know how how unbelievably fantastic luck trite and the nhl may be going. Hey you know we're we're onto something here so we got jasper we got. We got whistler. We got all the you know the mountains. You know aspen all these places down the states where we can Play these games. In the in the mountains you know at these resorts the thinking. Corporately steve down down the road. You know like. I said those three spots jasper bannon and live and breathe on on tourism. Of course right sooner right sponsor out of this deal right yeah. There's lots of opportunities to do it. You know in a season like this. But what else do we got here. We got A great weekend for hockey and certainly the storyline so far in the young season would be the individual place of both austin matthews and connor. Mcdavid mcdavid is Is just going bonkers here. He's he's guys is averaging one point. Eight five points per game is on pace for one hundred fifty one points. No one hundred fifty points since the eighties in the nhl and Right meanwhile austin matthews eighteen goals in eighteen games. How's it going fifty goals in a fifty six game season. I didn't think that that would be even.

"We always liked to catch up with our friend down in Las Vegas at his Bruce Marshall He runs the gold sheet for all your prognosticating needs needs. He will Join US IN A sack. I mean we will. We'll talk about the gold sheet in a second but Bruce we had The All star break we had the The All Star game Any takeaways that pop into your head from the the matchup there. No not really I mean it was I actually think that division division thing with the in the The Games itself. The three periods is actually a pretty good idea to try to make it something that you know. It's not like watching a Oriole game and I'm so in love with the real stuff here. It's just seems like sort of a gimmick but I mean I look at it is just sort of a fun thing and it's really more fun for the fans who they're who can experience experience all this stuff they haven't the fan fest and all that and it's more just like a little celebration weekend but I don't get even the skills stuff anymore you know by this point. There's so much else else going on in the sports world that that that takes a big vaccine for me and I sort of can't wait for the break to get over it and then to get back to real action which we last night no doubt and I I think one of the things that I always M interested in is who's fastest around the rink and it's funny. When you know you see mcdavid mcdavid win it every year and he got upset this year by Mab bars all and from the islanders and he wanted by three one thousand two or three hundreds of a second but I I remember when I saw mcdade mcdavid is just this highly skilled kid? Who's got good mid-size? I I kind of forget that. Dang he's like the fastest guy no wonder he's so good. Oh yeah and that's what I always note when I'm watching Edmonton. It's his line out on the ice you and if you're for the other team we're just GonNa hold your breath the whole time and that's why to me you know he's been the MVP the last couple of years years just because how you react. Everybody reacts when he's on the ice I mean you really just hold your breath and his line is out there and he's gotten a little more help. This year in Evanston is back in the playoff. Mix the first time in a couple of years. But that's what I've always thought about. mcdavid I mean he's he's he's he because he's so fast. I was surprised. Bars all would have beaten eaten but you know that's a credit to bars all too by the way you know violent people tell you we you know we. We need another another goal scorer here really badly. And that's Kinda showed you. How good bars all isn't it can skate score? And so that'll be something. I'm sure lyles might be looking at it. They get after a deadline here too because Right up in that top category too. You know the accuracy shooting that was always kind of fun. Because you have the plates and guys guys would step up and smash the plates but the last couple of years gone with these digital markers and to me. This was kind of a disaster because Tomas hurdle hit hit three. Didn't get credit. And then Jonathan Hubbard ill. His last shot missed and got credit for hitting it. That one has to go bruce I agree I agree. They got something like that up at the hockey hall of fame and Toronto. which I everybody should go to that then once interactive stuff in there and you think how what gets me is how these guys can put that part? Those of us who haven't played much hockey. You try shooting that and you think you know you're just lucky to get it anywhere close but I mean these guys ask put this thing so that is that that competition always amazed me probably have to do some tweaks to it like you say I'm a few years ago. I I wish I could remember who was but somebody on the sharks got hit in the head by Shea Weber slapshot remember. Peter Divorce said He got hit by Shea Weber. And you know what I thought about that when you know the hardest shot competition that almost felt like why are we even having this. We already know it's going to be Weber but he clocked in in two hundred five point nine and they go okay you one. And he's like well. Don't I get another try. And they go. Yeah if you want. And then he came in and one hundred six point five and it's just another reminder of Gullies that is you have to be brave but I think about how many guys not even just blew liners but wingers and centers actually lay down in front of their shots on a nightly basis. Those are the guys who really are the dare-devils out there. I mean the goalies are now. They're all pretty. Well Pat. I think even better patio the the cage face Max and all that now so I mean not I mean it's not for the faint of Heart for sure but I am continually amazed at these guys who get in front of shots and a lot of them. Don't I mean they might have visor on But they don't have all the All the all the padding that goal has to so it's those are the guys who are the real they're like the oil rig firefighters the NHL. They're there for sure more questions for Bruce Marshall of the gold sheet all right We know that Alexander Alexander Ovechkin if he stays healthy and continues to play well and to play on a good team could end up being the all time leading scorer. He has six hundred ninety. You too he's In the top ten now that was interesting Wayne Gretzky said Hey I hope he breaks the record and I kinda thought that that was just him being gentlemanly but then when I read the article on. NHL Dot Com. He went into great depth about how records are made to be broken and that when he was chasing Gordie Howe and ninety four that Gordian his wife Colleen Lien flew on the The the plane to every game to be there with the kings when he broke it and he says I hope I can get on the capitals plane. I think he's actually sincere that he wants a broken. Yeah I think so I mean and you kinda learn I mean a guy. Gretzky grew up in the game. Aim like that and idolizing Gordy Howard that picture up when he was like a kid how and when he saw how do that for him. It's sort of set that example and there Up and you wonder if the future generations of these stars and you know. I'm sure some years down the road probably doing the same thing but It doesn't surprise. Ah Somebody who grew up in that era like Gretzky did and have those examples. You Ain't shells got a lot of guys like that and So it didn't didn't surprise me that the Yovich Galveston keeps on going and by the way they survived without him last night the caps are hot and they You know if the season ended today They'd they'd win the presidents trophy now. That's Kinda poisoned chalice. But I mean it shows you how things have gone well there for coach Rudi in for education and everybody else that the caps 'cause there's flying and yeah yeah and you think about how you know Gretzky was of course the the greatest score the history of the of the League and if you took away his goals and just had his assists he'd still be the top score. I mean it's pretty amazing what he accomplished. But you know he didn't fight he had guys like MC sorely and Messier. Ah Fight Forum. Ovechkin will knock you out. I mean it's just he's just a he's got it all. He's an incredible talent. Yeah Yeah we ask resort having the hurricanes last year And he can he. He can do that and he's a you see him in the line. I mean it looks like nobody to mess with when you see him in the locker room after the Games you know You know he's he's a even customers. He's the full before deal for hockey player. He does it all and the cats and for for his sake I. I'm really glad they got that cup. Two years ago they might get another one And before he's done to I mean they're they're in there and It was just reward for him and for coach. I trust everybody a couple of years ago to win them. But I'm his AAC. I'm glad he's got that Stanley Cup under his belt as well one more thing from the all-star game which I thought was pretty funny and the the Central Pacific matchup had an awkward moment and win Matthew could chuck assist on a goal to the on-drive Seidel and they the the flames and the oilers do not get along and especially this year but prior to the game dry Seidel said that if he had to play with CA chuck he would get off the ice. Well he didn't get off the ice and so afterwards when dry seidel celebrated Kachuck didn't celebrate an ellipse told said that he said to him. It's the all star Star Game Bro. Chill so it's funny. I always think about forcing these rivals together at the Baseball Star game. They're all high fives. But I don't know I kind. I don't like the fact that I'll play with you but I don't like you buy like that and you know this battle of Alberta is really heating up nice a good war words troll job billboards by the fans He had a bunch of guys playing on the same team and the All Star game and they spouted mostly nothing but compliments. But you know they're playing again tomorrow night and In Evanston and have a feeling this is. This is a rivalry that has been reborn. And I think it's great. Do you think in a way that that the the All Star game is because it's a it's a long break can we don't have this type of break and other sports but it's It's a celebration an of hockey or do you think in a way. It's it's kind of a speed bump and it takes the momentum away What do you what do you think about the break in general being so long hi more the latter I think Just my own gut feel is. It's a it's a pretty good. Some of these teams are off ten nine ten days Some weren't But a lot of them were I tended and it kind of slows the momentum a little bit now we had it has. There's I got. It was worse than they did the Olympics when they were planning the Olympics ticket to two and a half week great But I tend to make it slows the momentum dollar. Maybe hockey needs it. Because of the nature. True the game and she loves you guys too you know regenerate but I do think it sort of slows momentum the season if it. Yeah I would probably say to our hockey question and you look at the division leaders. There's right now in Boston. Leads to abandon Atlantic and you've got Washington and Pittsburgh in the Metro and Saint Louis We know about Colorado. They've been playing well but a lot of people. I don't really talk about Vancouver. And they're currently first place in the Pacific. What do you think about the connects? This year I was ready to write them off a few weeks ago. Go and but they have regrouped. I thought it was very It was very important last night coming out of the break and to to dominate. Donate.

"You'll also get a big shout out on the show. Our latest member by the way today is Deby. If you sign up you're welcome to use your full name or into a little shoutout of some kind as well at the same time. DB Bit of a minimalist. But we're very happy to have him or her aboard so thanks once again for all that and For US hotline as well. That's something we want to use a little more as we move forward as we kind of break down the sends games and things. It's always good to get some listener input on all of that. Now let's bring in our good pal. Jimmy tough are is it to get your smokes again. That's about two blocks two blocks three blocks but I don't walk Dr Steve Of course participation salutes Jimmy. I'm out of breath for some reason as one walked out of breath. So I WANNA get there okay. So let's maybe begin today with our computing web poll. We talk a bit about this as we do with Jervis thing in the last episode but is Connor mcdavid the most skilled hockey player. You've ever seen and if not who is and I'm very keen to hear what you have to say given that I'm sure as well as a pal of Wayne Gretzky. You've got a certain affinity for that guy's your selection but even as such such you gotta be blown away by what mcdavid can do. Yeah off the charts man. You Know I. I kept watching that thing last night. The singlehanded single-handed movie made starting from the redline The whole the whole goal was fantastic. And if I'm to agree with everybody WHO's more in the know than I am about hockey and watch way more hockey games. Color commentators. Sports Columnists Suffolk that. Everybody his saying they've never seen a goal like that. That's I don't know what you gathered from a lot of it but that's what I saw And so so really what that saying to me is no one's ever shown that kind of skill on the cheeky to write the this whole thing just looking back looking back it just it was. It was a treat to watch. It was very inventive and ultra skilled. Not any of the the edges. He's using the the acceleration he has The the movie makes on the goaltender where it kind of draws it back to himself. He's cutting to his right. The goal is going with mcdavid mcdavid however the stick blade in Parker doing something just basically on their own and Basically the goalie clears out as he's able to Tuck it inside the left post. It was a gorgeous goal for sure. But I you know what I mean if there's many ways to gauge what makes a great player but if we're just talking skill oh like the skating the puck handling the acceleration division boy. It's awfully hard to think of anybody who's done at better better than Connor mcdavid Ken. Now we're not I'm not I don't bring up this poll either just because of that play obviously just got a wealth of skill in so many ways he he will finish this year. I think is your leading score We'll see but I thought that was a good excuse to talk about it. Some of the feedback. We got on twitter because because that's where the RB computing Web Paul resides at. TSN Steve Get Jason Night Writing. Pablo Bora would be as Joyce Terry towed goes with Mario lemieux an IT includes an ice career highlight package from youtube which was pretty damn impressive. rob be rights right now. Yes but Gretzky Lemieux lovie and crosby it pulled off. Some breathtaking moves themselves Mike D Tongue and cheeks Casper's dog ovens K.. As is a guy from the Ottawa senators and his claim to fame was that he took a a penalty shot and had is the tip of his stick blade on top of the puck the whole time so he's basically work in the park like it's like it's ring at an almost scored but did not and that's what he's remembered for with the Ottawa. Senators Stuntman Stu Rights Rod. Lang way was always great to watch finally outta voiced. Ah Let's see Conrad writes Bob. Your owl of senatorial is rights The greatest of all time number ninety nine and other vote for Bob your from David Lang Wa Joshua Rights. I say Ovechkin in his prime hard to beat their scoring on his back and don't forget Connor mcdavid was making a leafs chiefs. Blue liner look silly. Remember most people do so. Thank you for all their comments. Yeah I think what the most significant skill play in the NHL is not so much how the guy scored okay tons of guys can rip it high they can they can throw a nifty pass. You know there. There's there's there's tons of guys who can score really effectively actively right there. There highlight packages all day. Long you know about a guy in a FIFA weapon it in their slapshot you know. He's got the ports or and all this stuff to me. Not the most significant skill is when guys can beat guys can go around them. I think when I watch when I watched the NHL. I'm like that that to me is this guy is the bomb right and they're highlights. You've seen you've seen lots this year. Where guys go around in close where they do the hook and drag the they flush the puck up in between the guy's legs and step around them and I think that's the biggest chart of skill is how you know when guys can go around other guy this is the NHL two men beating when they beat? So that's my and the center for these defensemen are also so well schooled like they've been trained train so beautifully throughout their lives with coach after coach you just teaches them. You know maintaining body position and Playing the body and it's so difficult built in a one on one setting for a guy to beat a true level. NHL Defenseman like that. And mcdavid made Morgan Riley look like a junior B defensemen. It was ridiculous. Yeah so you know. Even Chris Chellios has said in his whole career. That Mario Lemieux beat him every time. Maryland meal every time Maryland was busting down. The Ice Jelly talks about it. Saying the guy got around me every freaking time I I did it all by the book You know he talks about one incident that you know we said we're playing Pittsburgh tonight. I'm not letting this guy get by me. You know and you know watched the video and all this stuff and he saw Mariel beat them a bunch of time so we all figured out and so Mary rose busting down the right boards and Chellios backing up with him and he's in front of him He's he's got him sort of set up as he tells the story where Mary has nowhere to go. He can't he can't run straight up up the boards because they're going to be able to check them. I mean close. He can't go around me because I'm I've stepped out far enough that I got another defense went over to my right here so he can't you know and he goes. I got him. You know I got him and he he he tells the story that all. Here's his mariel literally saying lookout Jelly. Here I come you know. And and and Mario goes left. You know to to go around in front of Chellios. Shelia is kind of follows him and he leaves the Puck there in the boards and reaches reaches out with his right hand and huge long stick and flips it up on the glass up over Chelsea Ed and goes around him and picks up the PUCK. You know hell of a move so Mary. Obviously we'd be right up their own. No doubt that's that's the big scale that I like. That's the big skill that I liked that. When you see a guy guy you know destroy a guy defensively around yeah? A lot of those guys are artists for sure and I. It is a large portion of the. Don't play very good defense. So that's not the entirety of the game but it certainly is an impressive skill to have to be able to beat somebody one on one. It's almost like they their brains process just faster than the rest of us like I think to myself like if I'm coming in one on one as a SCHLEP rock men's league player and then everything around me went into slow motion mode. Yeah at that stage with the PUCK. I can like put the puck. You know in that in that triangle between the stick and the skates or I can put it between his legs and go around him will. Of course. The game isn't played that way. Everything's at full speed. But I feel like the greats of the greats like mcdavid leg Mario Lemieux I feel like they do see it kind of at slow motion and they're able to easily easily process where they can slide that park where they can move to little Shimmy here to To take is off. They're off their game and get them off balance so they can beat them wide or whatever whatever they just seem to process things they seem to possess this brain that the rest of us don't have Stevie the polls brought to you by rb computing MM from computers to business networks and everything in between rb computing solves.

I WELL STAYED UP Steve Till five thirty in the morning. Oh watching TV. You know. I used to watch well you know I love Netflix. Love Netflix but I watched a movie. I hadn't seen in years good good flick. Good Flick haven't quite finished Michigan but called breach from two thousand seven about a true story about a CIA the FBI. Agent spy That that they nailed in two thousand and one Russian Russian turncoat Colt and anyway. Good good movie. I love to pass on the good movies Stevie so a twelve year old movie. Had you staying till five thirty in the morning because I was going to just come. I'm out in your so excited but no it's been years. I'm sort of a two o'clock guy in the morning. I get all my shit done at night late at night. Practice my piano and everything at midnight and and I'm doing sorta sort of sort of weird my time. Schedules turned and went to bed. I sleep with my IPAD. Steve Steve. She's beautiful not you know what I'm saying. Bring the IPAD with me into the rack for. I don't WanNa hear that what's that it's there's nothing dirty. I'm not watching porn or anything. Just you don't have I watch I watch movies or shows you know and watch how she's beautiful so I just immediately jump to that conclusion. Well that's my little ipad name for but Today is as we record this and too big birthdays taes both Tony. Gabriel and Daniel Alfredsson. Alfie is forty seven and Tony. Gabriel the longtime Ottawa. Rough rider. What did you say was seventy one or seventy two born in forty eight nine thousand? Four hundred seventy-one. Anyone an interesting story. I saw twitter today that he actually was a free agent. Nobody I didn't hear what his rights belong to nobody. NFL WERE CFL in the first place he went was the Toronto argonauts and they said no to him. They weren't interested. Did and you know who was the head coach of that team. The great auto a rough rider. Russ Jackson all Russ and so. It's actually Russ Jackson. That was responsible for Tony. Gabriel ending up with the Ottawa rough riders at one point. Yeah of course people who will remember ever hearing twenty Gabriel being interviewed He was and probably still is. I guess an incessant talker right I mean he. Just you'd ask him a question and it became almost laughable laughable. How how Hollywood drag on his answer and go into areas that eventually he forgot what the question was? Do you remember doing those interviews with them. Of course yeah. Another famous question about tell us about that. play the play that won the nineteen seventy six Grey Cup clements Gabriel and then he you went off and Guys Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah. We played it back for the longest time. Always you in the background chuckling. I don't know if we excited you at that point but Tony was none the wiser but man he must have been a fifteen minute answer. I'm not. I'm not sure Tony. What what renovating in your bathroom pass clements to you when we asked you about that trip? He went on to Spain. Talk that come in. Yeah well he had. He had a one moment where I was doing this by the way thing in his story. And so he digress is over here and literally talked I five minutes and then dismissed the whole thing the and goes but that doesn't matter right now and then got back. Tried to get right back on track. If it doesn't matter right now. Why did you just talk about? But if for five minutes bright you know what I take away from that and I was at that game actually in Toronto up there with my folks in sorts. Seventy seventy six Steve Guests of that pass. That's why my mother so kind. AS WE'RE TAKING A Streetcar From Exhibition Stadium. Back back downtown towards the hotel they might have had a few Steve at the game they might have had a few pops and my mother was quite tired and decide to lie down. Stephen the Aisle of St to rest. That's my mother paid or Berry. She was here she was wonderful. That was but I just can't can't picture berry doing that. She did Yup Yup up very very did a couple of a couple of very funny things totally funny things. Yup that was one that was one of them. That's pretty amazing game though and if you're interested. Youtube Uber has the entire game like the entire broadcast commercials analysis. All of it. So if you're if you're if you're that if you're old enough to remember the nineteen seventy seventy six grey cup. I was very little vague recollections of it but I came across it on Youtube. It's their from start to finish pre-game interviews everything post post game celebrations so as cool to find that you know when I remember watching I watched you know it was kind of the only game in town right back. Then you know. We didn't hardly had cable. I don't think and so- CFL right. I remember watching what my dad. We've talked about this before. Great Great Childhood Memories Watching the Games going out at halftime in the art to play interception. My Dad me and my brother defending each one for the smell of cigars Stephen. The Living Room watching watching the game my dad giving me one so I can have one with them when I was thirteen it was nice. what What I remember watching? Tony Gabriel okay. And and him running downfield going. How can you possibly you not defend this guy? He can't run JOE like if you looked at them. These long spindly legs he would. It was almost take a new hip when he ran. And it's like. How is this guy getting these passes? You know watching a workhorse in the Kentucky Derby. Yeah it's just watch the game now you brought it up. It's on new. I'M GONNA go back and look and I was reminded of it over the last couple years every time I saw him. It's like Rob Gronkowski. You know in in New England the guys like just a massive man and when you see them come off the line. They're not they're not gonNA know speed man you you know and yet the guy was incredible receiver same with Tony Gabriel. It's like every time on this guy so slow and can't fake or anything and yet it was fantastic. That's what I remember about. Gabriel Yep watching. We always found a way to get open. Always one big catch chapter the next and celebrating a birthday as we record this on December eleventh and Daniel Everson is mentioned. forty-seven I really hope that the sense can mend fences. One more time with Alfie. Here's the thing I've come up with Steve for. I don't blame them. Here's the thing I've come up with for mcdavid David Okay. Because I love mcdavid like everyone they call them. Mc Jesus Steve Okay. Here's something I've come up with that I think it's GonNa go viral praise mcdavid. Hey Hey how's that one appraise mcdavid. It's absolutely fine that you do that But if there's any money to be made I'll l. expect my royalty checks made out every couple of weeks or so that'd be fabulous otherwise you're free to use it it's good. I started messing around with the Church of Carlson. When Bobby Ryan I think Bobby Ryan arrived in town? He was briefly The leader of the Church of Ryan Tala G. O.. Not Bad I was pleased with the name however didn't exactly pan out. No no no you pick the right guy. There's only one Alfie. Go to pick a guy with a little staying empowers Steve. So maybe that's on the clowns doing just right you don't name names you you just so that everyone on that team goes oh I better step it up and then we'll see right who can and can't now. I don't think COMPLA- anymore. Well let's we we don't we won't name names. Yeah so I opened it up Satun twitter is. I told twitter that we would be doing this until I ask them. If there was any questions that they specifically wanted to ask you so I'll start with this one not from from deep from deed Berry seventy-three on twitter. Why do we sit guys? Like a Mario in Carter so much deserving of the press Lexi you. I think the kind of address that earlier about the record yet thing But but yeah generally speaking. It's one game I'm not. I don't worry too much about one game. It'll if ah AH drags into three or four or five games. Then I'll start stress. Yeah and I do think at some point juggles it just like you just like He did last year right oper- every these too much pride and all that stuff in his all kinds of other considerations. But you know. I think there's going to be a a couple of games where he's GonNa sit and they'll bring some kids and see what's what a couple of games. Your question is from the prevail. Sorry to cut you off there. Yeah Yeah this one specifically for you What do you think about Brown not wearing a letter this year? I didn't like it from the GECKO. I don't I don't like when teams do it. I don't quite understand it and I think he should be One of the assistance. If I guess he can't be the captain I duNNo. I guess none of us really know what happened there. But I didn't like it when they did it to Thornton. Frankly even though I don't like to sharks and I don't know what other team has done it but I didn't Dallas take the captaincy away from silent. Remember now who they didn't they take it from either moral took it or it was taken from moral. Don't know but has it ever worked. No let's just say yeah so I don't I don't know I don't I don't like I get it. It's not the be all end all of the world but like he's clearly the heart and soul of the team. He's been on the team the longest one two cups I I think he's still the hardest working king guy. He's still the best interview right. He's still you know I don't get it. I'm a browns fan. Yeah I know even when everyone else was saying trade in my kept saying no browns are not a dime a dozen there there. You know one in a million the next Christmas from Kyle. We sort of addressed this already was. How do you guys feel about the use of Think he'll stay if he doesn't get more consistent time we're traded. I have no idea what what he wants to do. No idea but like what little he did. I thought I'd like to see more of them. I guess that's about as much as I could say. Yeah I'm all for seeing more from him but I feel pretty much the same way I do about him as I do about Kodjak which is at the end of the day. There's so many kids under the age of twenty two. Well yes you're right that's the painting Brzezinski in unless he comes in and sets it on fire he's twenty six and I'm GonNa give him the chance but but I just don't like I I'd like to see a couple more games. And then they'll figure out what's what Atom Adam was to know. If campaign continues the trajectory of underperforming and gets relegated to the third line. You think he gets shipped out sometime in the next year for picture players. I might my entire hang up with KEMP IS I. Don't think that they have ever evade being the kings clearly defined. What his role and expectation expectation Should be and I don't know if he wants to win. When they played the Vegas two years ago in the playoffs and Stevens was raving about him? You know talked about you know. He made that very point comment about I love big boy hockey or something. I don't remember heavy right yet. He said I love heavy hockey and Adrian Kempe advise Abbiati and he was sort of looked on to be like the third line. checkings will advance what he's GonNa be than fine. Get Him off the power play. Get Him off the second line in quit selling him as the heart of the offensive. The thing moving forward but they don't seem to do anything. He's finally winning face off so I mean I he. He could be a useful role player. Let's define that role. No I agree. And I think that's where again McClellan Blake will find out right because it is far as I'm concerned if you go if you skip ahead of year two okay Lewis is now starting to get old and So maybe kept he's a fourth northline player right but a good one sure right and penalty killer. Who who you can move up with injuries right right and there's nothing wrong with that? I think people forget you know we love Louis. Louis was a first round draft pick and he's so careers been third third and fourth line. But you know but one of the you know. He's great. Yes oh I could see campaign doing that. I don't think they necessarily have to trade him and I don't. I know that any of the kids are necessarily fourth line. Kids right all the people we talk about Campari. Jd like what we certainly the money. Yeah well I've I've seen people refer to Anderson Dolan as potential third line center but they're generally speaking people don't talk about minor leaguers and said like Oh. I can't can't wait to see that guy. Play eight minutes a night of. I know we should write. Every team needs those team needs a good for the line and so maybe as as Lewis is getting older camp as the guys takes his spot you know I don't know I mean as possible or he's another guy who who could be traded. Yes because there's lots of teams that would take a chance on them one hundred percent and I mean the thing the thing that keeps banting me about campaign is willing Carlson in Vegas. Right William Carlson's numbers right before he got to Vegas. You're like okay. This kid's a bus these nothing. What's the point? And then he gets is the vagus and he scored forty three goals and everybody goes. How did it who knows? I don't know they could absolutely be that guy absolutely for a it could be that for whatever reason. It just doesn't seem to be happening here. It doesn't I still think he's a great player. I think he's really good But I don't know Oh that if he underperforms I think the first thing I would try and do is just like you said define his role changes role in define it. Yeah and let him relax exactly like now. It just looks like he's pressing so hard. It'd be offensive Juggernaut. He's supposed to be an Dan Just play I don't know but that's what I yeah. Yeah and Lord deliver me from the play where he comes screen scream screaming down the right hand side with his stick to the left and he tries you know. He tries to pick the far corner on the goalie from the top of the faceoff dot. Yeah chest chest. I've seen enough fast. left-handed Shooting Kings in my lifetime. Try that try that goal and not have it work that I just know remains eating next next question's from Parker this goofy question but we love Parker's go easy on him and he thinks the team players are very good but McLaughlin's not a good coach of Parker. I love you but I don't agree with you. I mean I you know who I mean. I don't know right like I say he's been the coach for twelve games so I I only only say that because he has I when he was in San Jose and in that series. I guess if you're a bunch of times like I think he made some huge mistakes and in pivotal mistakes and I wasn't crazy about some of the stuff he said about his team after I I didn't really pay attention reason Edmonson In fact I was sort of stunned when I heard there was three years. You thought it was like six months but I remember not thinking. Saturday was a really good choice either. Oh yeah tons of US didn't the Stanley Cup before he got to know exactly and he was a hard Aso is think McClellan might actually be the right guy. I think that it's you a couple of weeks. Go and I thought well. Maybe I don't know what happened to Emerson Pay attention but I think maybe the maybe for him. The problem imaging was it was just all young guys and everything meeting was mcdavid mcdavid and but in San Jose where he was certainly very successful. I didn't WANNA cut but it's not like the good But he had a nice combination of older other guys and younger guys. That's what we have here. You have coach. They can still go to cope John Brown and endowed in checking quick quick but also can handle kids and so maybe the news the right guy. I'M GONNA burn through the answer to this one When do you make minorly line? Changes before the twenty game marker after Richard Tonight the third period clearly answered that. It's before 'cause they started doing it tonight. Yeah then the next question from Sparky Wellington Lincoln should the Kings start looking to make big trade soon if yes who know. There aren't any big name trades to be made. Well you know that's where you and I do but not right away. Maybe after thirty games. Yeah Yeah then I look I know like I don't want them to trade. The Not that this trade trade would happen but let's say they traded forward into Foley for Pinera right like obviously New York would never do that but the point is like what why. What's the point like the team's not good adding one guy isn't GonNa make them better and well? Yeah that's where you and I differ. I would say yes because a just shake it up e you do have to cater later defense as someone said I think it was McClellan. Actually and I thought it was a really good answer when someone asked him. What was the most important thing he said? Most Burnley were entertainment. Yeah that's right apart from everything else quite entertainment and apart from that but I also think in order to get going for the the next year you make some moves this year right. They may not. They won't work out this year. But you're you're getting ready to see well now got this guy will. I'm fine. I'm fine for making trades. I just don't think that the answer is quote unquote big-name trades right like Visnovsky for stolen. Green wasn't a big name trade. Our best defenseman no fine. No no if the big name is one of one of our big names going out. I'm all for it. I'm just I don't see the point in and bringing in bringing in a big name though I okay. Yeah if that's what you're saying no I don't think there's I don't think we need big names. I think we need really better role. Play not a better but yeah different role players exactly. Yeah W. Time to go hunting for big names for right now if if Turcott got kaliev. If Interest Dahlen of Anderson if grunts if Bjorn foot if fog Amo- Peterson for those guys don't become big names it. He kinda doesn't matter so no and not all of them are going to end up on the kings. That's the other thing people just get. Get their hands right. It might only be one or two of of them were. So there's a lot of jockeying it's going to happen and so but you know me I'm always for the big trash final question. Mike wants to now at growing up to Jesse always listen with parents said no to something or were there spankings with hockey sticks involved. So y you don't you don't have to give any specific stories but go ahead and tell them what kind of Kid Jesse was a perfect child. I never had displaying. Certainly it's now with a hockey stick a tennis racket. Oh yes known. Judge Jesse was a good kid. Never had any trouble awfully nice of you to lie. Nothing big I mean I never did like I never got arrested or anything. No no and all the stuff that Oh you did do you would tell me for years later. I'm like okay but generally speaking No we we went to a lot of hockey games and I went to a lot of concerts and you know I mean school gone in my concerts. Not Yeah no not concert. I mean school on suits unveil everything else was relatively relatively ably regular. I think basically with extra joining me that Dad Yep. I'm sorry we have to keep doing this when they're losing. But what are you gonNA do next time. Hopefully they'll be on a win streak going. Yeah who do they play next and win. So.
