"Yeah, we took a while for us to find out that in fact that we did not have an explosion at the State Department. Go ahead. Yeah, well, no, I beg your pardon. What I was going to say was that's one of the things that we do in every episode is we talk about what did broadcast journalism get right that day. And what did they get wrong? And one of the people that was gracious enough to do. An interview for this particular episode was already flashing. Who was President George President George W. Bush's press secretary, and he you know, because we we In every episode. We tried to look at it from a 3 60 point of view, for instance, in Princess Diana. We also had not only did we have pressed the broadcast journalists from the BBC and CBS and NBC and all the networks, but we also had Dickie Arbiter who was the queen's spokesperson at the time, So we want to see how was news covered. But also how was news managed and Ari Um Talked about the fact that there were some, uh, some anchors that that went with erroneous stories about a fire in the mall and a bomb outside the state Department. That sort of thing, But he also readily admitted that in the fog of war Um, And when you are, you know when you're when you're broadcasting to the world to a global audience is CNN Did you know you just kind of have to go with your gut and hope that you don't make too many mistakes. Yeah. And again Be sure before you plunge ahead on something like this can cause in from McCleary, Washington on the Jim Bohannon show with our guest, Joe Garner of the We interrupt this broadcast podcast. Good evening. Can do you recall what you were doing on that morning? Yes, Jim. I was working at Fort Lewis. "Welcome back on this weather War night After this extremely quiet September afternoon. We have thunderstorms brewing, though, believe it or not, They're just going to ripple right over the top of us. As most of us are asleep, you might be rattled awake by some crashing and booming out there. Not everybody will see the thunder and lightning, but it certainly is possible in the cards for many of us tonight in western Washington. This is the view as captured by Thomas Lie of the Milky Way. And some beautiful views of the planets and the stars out there where you don't have any of that light pollution from the city way on up at the visitor center at Mount right near a beautiful September late summer night up there right now, but that's also going to be a great vantage point. To watch some of these thunderstorms as they roll on into western Washington. Almost everybody gets a little bit of rain. Some of us will also see or maybe hear the thunder and the lightning as it pushes past us in Puget Sound here over the next couple of hours is currently 67 notice the humidity coming up it does that every night anyway, But it will be more noticeable overnight because well, Have that cloud covered a tech in the heat, and the precipitation is going to bring that humidity up even a little bit more on the satellite and radar picture. You can see the leading edge of this disturbances. It starts to lean in from over the ocean and over Oregon, where it's already been pushing on by historian Cannon Beach Tonight, you can see that heavier rain at times, with some hail or some lightning around Newport and back toward Lincoln City and Tillamook, too. Eventually it curls in our direction and just a little bit of light rain so far for us here in the southwest interior extending from to Hola and McCleery back down toward the Long Beach Peninsula, el wacko and the will of the hills temps right now, primarily sixties stay kind of warm overnight tonight as those clouds start to tuck us in and eventually start to leak a little bit of precipitation. So again, A look at the weather maker and the timing on this rain. We check this out a few minutes ago. But here's the review in case you miss it. Missed it. This area low pressure, just a little summer disturbance with an associated Cold front here and there. You see the line of showers where they're sitting at the moment through the western section of Oregon. This front continues to move pretty quickly such that it lines on up right over the top of Puget Sound by about two or three o'clock in the morning and notice it's coming in from south to north. So we get the rain in the South end first. Then it marches over. Olympia Tacoma makes its way up the I five corridor until it exits out of the state and out of the country for that matter across the border into British Columbia by early tomorrow morning. So rain totals because we certainly could use some rain. It's been so dry for months on end. We're talking about at least a couple of drops in most of our gauges, but most respectable around Friday Harbor and Forks where we should pick up a good 10th of an inch during the overnight period. So overnight tonight, again a chance for the rain for sure, and then a slim chance for some thunder and lightning for some of us in the mix as well. Overnight lows fifties to low sixties so kind of mild compared to what we had last week. Remember, we were falling in the forties pretty routine late last week, so this time around, it's going to be a little bit warmer. And then tomorrow it's a memory again. We've got the sunshine we had today. We've got sunshine tomorrow. So it's nice to get the rain out of the way during the overnight where it doesn't get in your outdoor plans in the way of that are in the way of your morning or evening commutes, either. Be a great day tomorrow attempts back into the mid seventies in Tacoma Close to 80 out of SA Kwan back toward Monroe through the Strait again, you get the rain and maybe some thunder and lightning very early in the morning, eventually back to 71 in Anacortes and upper sixties at a Port Angeles Ocean beaches already raining now, not tomorrow, it's bright and blue with 64 around Long Beach and back into the low eighties Iran Castle rock And then in eastern Washington. A few of these passing showers perhaps surround Shaolin or back into. Oh, Mac overnight, always a little worrisome because of the chance for lightning when we have such high fire danger, But by tomorrow afternoon, bright and blue and very warm mid nineties again, it is definitely still summer there in the tri cities. So again, Mary, we've got the weather worn label up here for the overnight because of the chance for the widely scattered thunderstorms. And then tomorrow it's kind of hot, little bit sticky again. High schools to 80 on our Wednesday afternoon cooling, though, to just write conditions as we head toward the end of the week and look at that weekend as well, low to mid seventies.

"Not putting them in a press release next time, so then we get to the crux of the matter here. So Steve, the Landra writes back to Brandy. Uh, I've read your stuff before. Listen to you on the radio. On occasion, senior on Air. Watch your question Guests live, including one involving commissioner cried work, but what I can never forget. Is your actions for a story you did with me about 10 years ago involving an employee and another agency I worked for in a similar capacity. It was a legitimate story in the employee's actions, as at a public agency deserves scrutiny. The employee's actions at the agency were wrong. The media had every right to report that story. But what I never got over is how you and Dori monsoon Mocked and ridiculed the employee on air. You're not acting as a bona fide reporter reporting the facts. Instead, you were willing and obviously happy cheerleader for mockery and harassment. Listeners to Dory show called the employee at home and flooded the employee's social media accounts with vile names and language. You encourage this. And then Steve Lander said. In my seven years as a newspaper reporter and editor, I never engaged in such behavior. Neither did any of the other journalists are associated with in my capacity as an editor, I would have fired anyone who did. And then he said the commissioner declined your interviews on my advice. So Steve Landra will not let Mike Kreidler Discuss his Taliban comments with me or with Brandi Kruse because of a story, he said. We covered on my show about 10 years ago, and I had no idea what he was talking about. So I did a little searching this weekend and I could only find one story. From about 10 years ago, when Brandi was working at our radio station when I was still, of course, doing this show, and I had gotten a tip from a listener. And in that tip, we've been told that there was a state employee in charge of credit cards for other state employees in charge of $10 billion in contracts. Who took money from the taxpayers to get manicures and pedicures. So a listener tipped me off on this brandy working here at the time. I asked her if she would be instead of working on the story, and you know she's the best going after stuff like this. So she did. So this from 2013 and playing this for you because I want you to understand. How challenging it is to be a watchdog of government because everything that was in this guy's email if it involves this story, and we sent him the audio of the story before Iranian idea And he didn't. He didn't suggest that this is not a sort of some other stories. And if so, everything in his email about ways declining the interviews is a lie. So Brandy came on my show in 2013 and explained what the state employee was using this these accounts for, and it includes a lot of purchases around Olympia and in the city of McCleery. So it was caught because somebody was looking at those and thinking, you know what? This is a travel card. You're not traveling in Olympia. You're not traveling in McCleery. And so they started to go back and look at all of the reimbursements She had put in for for the state, and we're talking about things like Personal groceries, personal gasoline trips to a rite aid. Um, our source on that actually says that was for personal prescription medication. And we're also talking about a trip a $30 trip to a nail salon and spa. Aw, so things that obviously the taxpayers should not be on the hook for Oh, I think we should by Pettis and Manny's for all state employees. And why not? I get petty and man, Why not? Why? Why don't we just start providing that to all state workers? Okay, so there's a great story. A woman who works for us with stealing money to get manicures and pedicures. We broke it on our air brandy at the time. Talk to this guy Steve Landra about this incident again from 2013, and I know you talked with, you know, the spokesman for the age I did so, Steve Landry, the spokesperson for the Department of Enterprise Services, says. She has been punished for this. She has been reprimanded. She understands that She's no longer allowed to travel. And she's not going to be In charge of the contracts anymore. She's helping transition those contracts to somebody else, but she has no oversight over them any longer and she's not involved in any travel, so she's she stepped up to this and admitted to it, So I want to clarify a little bit of that She stepped up and admitted it. After they caught her. There's also another interesting twist to that. She didn't self report this, right. No, no, no, This was okay. So we buster and now, Verlander says, Okay, we're gonna make her stop buying Manny's and Patties and then also this Philando guy said, Well, it was only $700 that she stole. Why not fire her? She made one mistake she owned up to it. Any amount of money involved than We're talking about here totals less than $700. Okay, boys, and she didn't make one mistake. I mean, how many different purchases were made there were from you know, Like I said, January 2012 up and through June, there were several purchases, So it's not one mistake. She didn't own up to it. She admitted it after she was caught. And this notion that well, it's only $700. As I said earlier. If some guy goes into a 7 11 and grab $650 out of the tail we don't say is less than 700 bucks. We're not going to prosecute well, so that was the extent of my commentary. But we broke this story. It's a good It's a great story. Brandy went after it. And and then she asked me, uh, you know this because we're joking about it a little bit, but not. I mean, I'm going to play this and I'm gonna read you again. This guy's email why he's declining interviews in 2021. It didn't even pack and get a reduction in pay. They're like I said, I think I believe it's a lateral transfer. So really, she still has the same job title, so the so it's no punishment, the consequences. They canceled her travel card. She's no longer allowed to travel for the Department of Enterprise Services to represent the company in that way, and she was transferred to a different desk, essentially and and severe punishment. She's going to have to pay for her own. Manny's now can I get you to pay for my Manny's? Because they are $30 Amandeep it? I already got three daughters and a wife. No, You can't. No. Okay, This is how I wrapped it up, because, yes, we want to watch dog and make sure that government employees have to play by the same rules as us the bottom line. Niva Peck Peck him got away with stealing from taxpayers. Keeps her job and that it proves once again what we always are saying that there are two playing fields, one for government employees and one for the rest of us. That's it. Okay, Now you've heard this the actual audio from 2013. Let's go back to Steve Landry's email Why he's declining Brandy and my interview requests of Mike Kreidler. He said. What I never got over is how you and Dori Munson mocked and ridiculed the employee on air, Okay? What you just heard were joking about it because a state employee was stealing from us from the taxpayers. But he says that that was mocking and ridiculing the employee. And then he says that we were happy cheerleaders for mockery and harassment. And then he said listeners two months and show called the employee at home and flooded the employee's social media accounts with file names in language. You encourage this. Did you hear anything where we were encouraging people to call this person at home to flood her Social media? No. We reported a story. We reported a great story about a state employee who was stealing from state taxpayers. And now, eight years later, this guy Steve Landra, he's declining interview requests from Mike Kreidler to Mike Kreidler from me from Brandy because he's carrying around a grudge and then lying unless there's a different story, but he didn't When we wrote to him, he didn't say no. That's not the story I and they lies and says that we encourage people to arrest this woman at home. And I am telling you when government employees he did all this from his official government account, so it's all a matter of public record and I don't appreciate it. When government workers tell lies about me. I don't appreciate it when they tell lies about my journalist, friends like brandy, and when they use those lives to try to prevent us from pursuing another great story, just as we did eight years ago, So if you want to know how difficult it is to be a watchdog of government, you have just heard Everything that you need to know about the kind of headwinds that we bet the kind of hurdles they throw in front of us to make sure that we can't do our job. And when you're a public spokesperson for a government official, you're not supposed to pick and choose based on erroneous personal grudges. I could take quick time out. Check the news for you. And then we will continue the big lead with all the new masking vaccines, sporting events. Regulations coming up here on the door months and.

"Of sound and fury. Presenting Hannah Scott, Tom, Uh, as long as you didn't say, signifying nothing. I didn't. No, no, I know that. I know that line. You walk right up to that line right on it right on it. Hey. And how are you? I'm good. How are you? I'm good as well. So are we hearing something from the Washington state? Police troopers saying that the story that we're hearing isn't not necessary. The truth or we don't Yes, they issued a statement. In the last hour Super work, Johnson put out a release and said That they were aware of what they called erroneous reporting going on in the media about an arrest being made in the case regarding the person who had stolen officer Harris is car On I five after she was killed and what we they said in no uncertain terms all bold type and capitalized in a larger font that they have not in fact made over and arrest. And then it's also the the statement talks about how first thing they would do if they had made an arrest would be to call the family and there are kind of processes that need to be followed. So it doesn't jeopardize the investigation. That kind of thing so very much did not want any further reporting on anybody being arrested and absolutely denied that they had. I see. Okay, so there They're holding back on it or just that they don't have anybody. They don't there. They say they don't even have a suspect. They did not say that one way or the other. They were specifically talking about an arrest. And that could mean a few things. I mean, maybe they Maybe they detained a person and they are not yet haven't yet actually arrested that person. It could be. The questioning is going on. Um, you know what I mean? It could be a lot of different things. What I know is that there was definitely clear that they're concerned that any reporting could threaten the investigation. I got it. Yeah, this is I think this sounds to me like it's I don't know if this is allow this language like premature reporting. In other words, they want whatever news there is to go through the proper channels, and we managed to get the information. Outside those proper channels. And so they're they're kind of like dropping the hammer. Don't you think, given all your experience as a reporter that this information since it's based on Revealed internal memos that it will eventually proved to be the case. It's just sort of prematurely announced because they want to contact the family and they don't want to jeopardize investigations that be every my hunch. I think it's very, very possible. I mean again and it could just be a technicality. They internal information could be that detaining versus arrest, so I think it's very possible but Look, here's the bottom line. This is an officer who lost her life. And if there's anything that is jeopardizing that case, it needs to not be done. It needs to stop. That's my take. Fair enough, Okay? All right, Um, and we are free to disagree with me. But no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I understand. Just say we have any. We have no more information. Um, regarding who? This individual? Maybe I got correct. Correct. We'll leave it at that, Hannah because as you say you, you don't want to, in any way sort of disrupt the process. By the way, there was something in the earlier report that piqued my interest. The suggestion was that this person who apparently wasn't arrested was the primary suspect. But it sounded like there may have been other people involved or something. That may be part of the investigation. They don't stop. It sounds like there. It might not just be a single person, for instance, and it's possible and again. Look, you know you heard me just say that I don't want to do anything to jeopardize the investigation. But the cops especially don't want to do anything that's going to jeopardize that investigation. So if they've got multiple people that they're talking to and you know they're doing whatever kind of cop stuff they do. To get one to talk against. You know what I mean? We'll go four minutes. Excuse me. So to recognize with the man gentlemen from Ohio in control of the time on that side of the aisle wishes to yield four minutes to the gentleman from California Correct. Yes, The gentleman from California is recognized for four minutes. Thank you, Madam Speaker. You know, I didn't like the president's speech on January 16, either. I thought he was wrong to assert that the vice president needs Congress can pick and choose which electoral votes to count. It was wrong to set such a confrontational tone in a politically tense situation. What did he actually say? Write his exact words were quote. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotic Lee make your voices heard unquote. That's right. That's impeachable. That's called freedom of speech. Now. He also threatened to oppose candidates in future elections and by the way that was directed at Republicans like me, who resolved to uphold the constitutional process and protect the electoral college. Well, So what? That's called politics. If we impeached every politician who gave a fiery speech to a crowd of partisans, this capital would be deserted. That's what the president did. That is all he did. He specifically told the crowd to protest peacefully and patriotic Lee and the vast majority of them did. But every movement has a lunatic fringe. Suppressing free speech is not the answer. Holding rioters accountable for their actions is the answer, and we are If we prosecuted BLM and and TIFA writers across the country with the same determination these last six months This incident may not have happened it all Wow. Now short of declaring war, the power of impeachment is the most solemn and consequential act that Congress can take. They use it in this manner In the heat of the moment, with no hearings, no due process, many members phoning in their votes after a hastily called debate. Exactly one week before a new president is to take office trivializes this power to the point of caricature. The Democrats have won everything inside the House, the Senate and the presidency. In a republic. That calls for magnanimity by the victors. Only in a banana republic. Does it call for vengeance? Well, Guys Good. Franklin warned us that passion governs. And she never governed wisely. Oh, in our passion is this week we've set some dangerous new precedents that will haunt us for years to come. Yesterday, we redefined intemperate speech as a physical incapacity requiring removal from office. Today. We define it as a high crime and misdemeanor. The moment Any member of this body gives an impassioned speech and a lunatic fringe of their movement takes license from it. Be prepared to answer to this new president that we established today. Now, I could cite plenty of provocative speeches made by Democrats that directly preceded violence this summer. But we've already had enough of that. You know, after 600,000 Americans had perished in the civil war. Abraham Lincoln appealed to the better angels of our nature. He said, with malice toward none with charity for all, let us bind up the nation's wounds. Those words were so important to the unity of our nation there inscribed in marble at the Lincoln Memorial. I cannot think of a more petty, vindictive and gratuitous act. Tend to impeach and already defeated President a week before he has to leave office. President elect Biden's promised to heal the nation. Becomes. Ah ho mockery in the harsh reality of this uncut Conference Constitutional Act God help that expired..
