"McDonald. And we're the hosts of the new podcast from Hln Down the hill, the Delphi murders and Barb, I think you know it's important for us to kind of tell the folks that are gonna be listening to this podcast. The real goal here is to tell the story of this horrible, horrible thing that happened in Delphi and do it through the voices and the people of the town of the community and really give a sense of what it was like to live through such ah, horrible, horrible crime and you're going to hear from friends and family members of both Abigail Williams and Liberty. German Who were murdered in 2017, and it's still unsolved, and it should also be noted that over the course of this podcast for not going to try to solve this crime that is for the authorities to do, But what we're going to do is try to make some sense of it because there's a lot of layers here. There's a lot of speculation. There's a lot of theories and so we're going to try to make some sense of what happened in this town. You'll.

The Even More Minimum Wage working at Olive Garden

"Back when she was in high school caroline. Zola was working at mcdonalds in houston texas trying to save money for college but all of her friends were working at other restaurants where they got tips. They got to lead every night with like cash and they would say. Oh my gosh i win and i made one hundred dollars on one night and i was like wow. She starts playing for su- positions and she gets hired at all guarded. I did go in with some sort of Blind optimism. And i was like oh this is so cool. Because they're so busy all the time it'll be it'll be great But it was a lot. It was a lot harder there than i had anticipated it to be part of why it was so much. Harder is because of olive garden is known for like if you know one thing about olive garden. It's the breadsticks unlimited breadsticks breadsticks forever. Overload and unlimited soup and unlimited salad. I think a lot of people don't realize that The servers olive garden. Make the salad and soup themselves which we need to have a party and people want different things they want extra this and this on the side it makes it very complicated you but the money could be good on busy days like the weekends. She can make twenty five dollars an hour but then there were the slow days if you're standing there and you're not getting any work not getting any tables. You just know that you're absolutely wasting your time. It's like oh man. it's very frustrating. For sure the worst part was customers who would leave next nothing tips or actually nothing when someone just disregards you by not leaving you anything it it is. It's hurtful like you know. Andra Day, 'The United States Vs. Billie Holiday'

"An exceptionally good movie out. There now called the united states versus billie holiday and my guest today. Andrew day is playing billie holiday in such an exceptional incredible way that she's already got two nominations from the golden goal actress in a drama. In best song you know. So what more is there. come on. let's go out and sell them. I like iraq is gonna drama cly waiting to make that joke for like a week. I hear under that. You just desperate to play billie holiday. Dismiss this what's it. You had to go begley daniels and say this is my part as groveling at his feet on what i want all my life getting acting for all my lack of what just never never so yes. Deadly the exact of that is what happened. I'm just terrifying. I had not acted before other than in high school writing middle school like musical theater. Some plays but i never acted before as a major motion picture leading a cast. It was the idea that to me was like unfathomable unanimity at n ridiculous. Actually to be honest. I was like this is a terrible idea so now but i met with him and his he was thinking the same thing he like now. I really don't to preserve his role in so we didn't want to win a perfect meeting. Yeah it was amazing. Actually i know want you. I do not want to do this part anyway. Why don't we just sit here. Should be here these orders and we can go home so it was interesting. We bonded because we both were like. This is a terrible idea. But i saw him a desire to authentically. Tell billy store. In as a fan of billie holiday that was part of my fear is that i'd be staying on her legacy. that'd be stay on a great. Diana ross's legacy lady sings the blues or audra mcdonald on broadway. So i think we both saw. He was worried that he would also be that in casting me in so so we both had a great fear to overcome together. I think really for both of us. I mean through face into a lot of hard work and and and a great team right at gargantuan effort by our entire sort of ecosystem of people in family. you know we got together. We dove in. We move to get her here. We are win injured. Did the fear goal way Fear number one. Which but what happened was that i was uncomfortable and i was scared being but i had piece about. I had a piece about my purpose. Does that make sense. You know so was muscle. I was terrified. But i started to sort of feel my spirit. I try to stay. Spiritually grounded connected. I started to feel that. Okay just i was just reading. Certain things in has started to feel okay. I think i'm supposed to do this. I think this is something i suppose to say. Yes to i am. I actually read a scripture about being caused to face your fears doing act great faith and that's when i know care have to do this so i was still scared but it was one of those things that was like okay. You're gonna have to actually face it in a recumbent. Can you remember that. I seeing the did whatever that day was like where you're actually being billing. What did he was he gentle with yuli daniels and not starting with some. We actually very well. His the first day in the very first scene was gentle and our industry with natasha. Who's obviously incredible veteran actor writer like she knows this process from the top down so i was blessed that my first thing with her lee was extremely tender with me in two the entire process. You know so. It almost didn't matter with see we started with he had such care unanimity. But we did start. It's latasha leone is too little. The bank of holiday walking through central park in enemy talking about in his ability never jail talking bar tabarre card demand that she's dealing with stating from her. So it was. It was a little restricting through the park with the dogs. You know but it wasn't easy in the sense that it's technically my first day of shielding ever so that air ejector a by can't walk through parks sizably talulah bacon back and then the very next scene was actually her and i just making out in jewelry store so it was great. Second you know. Joe right in with lynching sexiness his first week little stroll in central park. That never happens again. Naked in front of strangers. That was gonna ask you before. I we talk about billion and the connection that that the two of you have of that night before you went to work the next day. What kind of a good night's sleep did you have. I'll regularly so. I really didn't sleep that i i'm not a. I'm not a sleeper. That's skill in the talent. I have not yet developed. Maybe somebody can hire me to be asleep. Let's see if some miracle pops out of that. That would be great so you know. It's interestingly enough people. Ask me what scene i struggled with the most non my okay was very emotionally challenging with a cenex. Struggle with divorce was in the hospital. But they're like billy's sleeping dislike. Relax a little bit like you just sleep Get closure is billion now. I there was no sleeping before going to set. Did it help you all that you have this wonderful musical career that you've been on stage in front of people. It's not the same thing as acting but in a way it is known as a singer as a musician. You have to feel everything you have to make it. Look like it's rolling off a lock that this is it. You can be confident than within the confidence. You can be inspired. He ended up at all. Yeah i think it did excellently. I mean you know one of the things my acting coach thomas which say she's like you know when it comes to acting. She knew how just terrified was she said it is. They are different but it is sort of the same. What she she calls. We ought announcing Chapman tuna says. Okay you know so. I think it did help in the sense that i know what it is like to go onstage. I know what it's like every night. The pressure before you go on stage the need for audience to love you for them to be satisfied for them to feel your love them. And i understand the washing process that once you're in it and you're in the music in your is i look at it as sort of a washing kind of cleansing a healing. Because i think that's it. And then i understand the feeling actor a performance of like. Oh my god that went so great or everybody's loving it select or arable like oh my god i i never wanna perform again. You know what. I mean. So i understand. Bill got sort of arca the most. There's so many permutations that yeah there is. It's it's definitely an entire roller coaster that you go on before gain state while stays in after you get on stage so we'll could save you years of therapy. You

Chicago-area worker fighting for minimum wage raise for all

"Negotiations on the latest code nineteen relief bill are underway in congress but a key democratic priority is in question president. Joe biden had initially pushed for proposal in the bill that would raise the federal minimum wage to fifteen dollars by the year. Twenty twenty-five no matter what happens at the federal level chicago goes to fifteen dollars this summer while illinois is on a path to fifteen dollars by the year twenty twenty-five earlier this week. Parachutes had a conversation with rob car president of the illinois retail merchants association and adriana alvarez mcdonald's employees and a leader in the chicago chapter of for fifteen. He began by asking alvarez. What's important to her to continue pushing at the national level. Despite illinois's hike being done deal you know. I do believe that this is Everyone's fight I'm not the only one struggling here in illinois you know There's a bunch of people out there struggling So i believe that the federal the federal minimum wage should go up to livable wage of fifteen dollars. An hour rob car. You represent businesses illinois. What are you hearing from your members about the most recent hike in illinois and in chicago again expected to go to fifteen dollars this summer struggling great word for it. There's a lot of employers for struggling as well which is why we historic on them. State as a result of the pandemic. It's going to impose. I think for us for for washington. Elways cautionary tale in that. You don't want to do this and you want to think twice about doing all certain epic because it makes components I what about that. The nonpartisan congressional budget office put out a study this month saying that raising the minimum wage to fifteen dollars an hour. It would live nearly a million people out of poverty but it could also lead to the loss of one point four million jobs. Could it actually hurt workers instead of help in my opinion i don't think so The more money. I have in my pocket. I'll be able to go to these small mom and pop shops that i have by my house. I don't have to make the trip to you know those big corporations that Have the deals So i'm not going to be saving any kind of money. I'm going to be spending it right back into the economy rob car if you look at the minimum wage adjusted for inflation over. The last several decades really hasn't gone up at all in fact it's gone down. Should the minimum wage at least keep up with inflation. Well i think the calculation depends on where you start. Become finished from sixty eight has been chosen by the advocates rather randomly choose from other years so different story. But no you don't wanna have wage on automatic increments. Sales are not automatic increase for example. When i when you talk about the retail sector. I represent It's been horrible policy. The state of illinois to continuous minimum wage increases in the midst of this pandemic when she would have something automatic on like that so that would be a terrible approach. What about that Again Rob is saying there shouldn't be automatic raises but if you look at the minimum wage adjusted for inflation It really hasn't moved at all. And then we're talking about fifty years since. Yeah it's it's been you know. The federal minimum wage has been stuck since two thousand nine. And i mean everything else has gone up We have to work two three jobs just to you know by essential stuff and i honestly don't think that that's that's right And seventy five is not enough

Should Biden raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour?

"And why are you against the minimum wage. Well because it sets a precedent that says if anybody's willing to work for less than that they cannot. Right i mean it's the federal government inserting itself into a business arrangement between two people and the idea that somehow the minimum wage in new york city or on an alaskan Fishing boat needs to be the same as somebody working at a mcdonald's in rural mississippi I know that mississippi is the poorest eight right now. So i mean this is a big country and the federal government doesn't really have any business Getting involved in people's individual deals but if it does it at the very least should do ones that doesn't get people fired at the I think it's the government accounting office I believe is the organization they have done a nonpartisan look at this and yes the people who retained their jobs would have a better life after the minimum wage was raised however some people would lose their jobs over the course of the period of time after the minimum wage was instituted. Well and think about what it does to the people who are earning currently. So you've got the eight dollar an hour worker. You've got the ten dollars an hour worker. You got the fifteen dollars an hour worker. All of a sudden they all make fifteen bucks an hour but the one guy who is making the fifteen worked hard to get more than the eight in the ten but worked hard for ten years to get there and now he's just

"It's already happened you know like your radio show when you thought about it however many years ago it already existed for you so all you had to do was move towards it with your inspired actions and make it happen but if you had got caught up in the fear of it'll never happen then it's possible never happen i love that you say that because i'm extrapolate that because i talk about it on a different level but it's even a deeper level now that i'm talking to you based on the subject matter of what we're speaking about here but you know when i talk about being a manifesto being visualize are taking the intuitive nece out of it and maybe you can't but in terms of just like for semantic sakes with the conversation piece when i talk about what my goals are and i'm very clear on what my nonnegotiables are i can see it clear as day in the future i just in the tangible sense in the here now through taking massive action and being very focused laser focused on it it catches up and so when people when you know when i've done this and proven this to myself time and time again for things that i impress upon myself as being inherently important or it must do must have in it comes for a wish him it's gotten to the point now where i'm so confident with myself that if i see something where identify something and i do use social media's three d visionary board because i do give people permission to hold me accountable if for example i'm saying i'm going to go after a certain guests that i wished to showcase on radio and in some cases it's taken me two or three years in which for that to materialize but i stick to it because i can so clearly see the outcome and i just have to in present time catch up to it for to align and then it manifest and then boom it's a reality yeah you're tapping into what already exists for you so that's thought in the it that's what you have the thought because every thought that we've ever had already exists it's already happened like we are already that's the whole thing the i am i am i am thirty happen it's already happened it's like i always say it's like watching yourself if you walk into a movie theater and i showed you a movie of your life and i was like all right lisa mcdonald buoy ever life this is everything that's going to happen to you and your life and you're watching it and you're like oh my god i'm gonna meet mazing guy i'm going to get married and i'm gonna have children and then i'm going to have a radio show oh my god and then i'm going to interview oprah oprah winfrey god they're gonna make them won't be of my life and this is going to be a cram mother like in your like business amazing would you ever walk out of that movie and be like oh that's not gonna happen or would you be like i saw it with my own eyes and that's gonna happen will we lived our life that way if we lift our life as if we watch the movie our life when we already know what's going to happen imagine how quickly we could manifest all the things that we want so you're just tapping into that vision you're already seeing what it is you already created and once you move towards that without fear boom it manifest for you it doesn't always take a day a week could take a couple of years but as long as you're not going back into the fear of i can't do this i can't do this and let that doubt and then you can absolutely create those things that have come into your vision because they've already already happened love it absolutely love him and so for the listing audience here laura what would be your top tips nuggets gems that you could impart the listening audience and.
