"Information station. Thanks for joining us. It is 7 o'clock. From an ABC News. I'm Daria aldinger. Former vice president Pence says he was surprised as anyone to learn classified documents were found at his Indiana home. Pence's lawyers say classified documents were in fact inadvertently boxed and transported to Indiana. They say that after it was revealed earlier this month, the classified documents were found in President Biden's personal residence, Pence asked his team to check his house as well, and that they discovered roughly one dozen documents in sealed boxes that did not appear to have been unpacked. ABC senior White House correspondent Mary Bruce. There was a vigil tonight in Monterey Park, California for those who were killed at a dance hall Saturday night. Mayor Henry Lowe asking for a moment of silence. Has suffered a tremendous loss. A frustrated governor Gavin Newsom. One common denominator these damn guns. I got no ideological opposition to someone owning a gun responsibly. But what the hell is wrong with us? That we allow these weapons of war in large capacity clips out on the streets of sidewalks. Why have we allowed this culture, this pattern? To continue. The new Simon half moon bay where 5 men and two women were killed in a workplace shooting. The only way to end the debt ceiling crisis is for House speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Biden to reach a deal in neither side appears to be ready to budge right now. I'm going to be responsible. We're going to be sensible, and

"Celebrations in Monterey Park. Here's congresswoman Judy Chu. It is horrible that such a thing could occur at a time of celebration for so many in the AAPI community and in the Asian community worldwide. I mean time extra protections are in place and that is according to Monterey Park mayor Henry Lowell. We want to express our condolences to the victims and their families and moving forward. It is important that we be there for them to provide services and support they need and what will be a time of healing and next week's months if not years. And as that situation unfolds President Biden says he has authorized his Homeland Security adviser to mobilize full federal support to local and state authorities like Monterey Park mayor, Henry Lowe, who you just heard there. The FBI has found more classified documents at President Biden's Wilmington Delaware home Delaware senator Chris Kuhn says he remains confident that President Biden has nothing to hide and will be exonerated of any wrongdoing. What's going to matter going forward is how this is handled and President Biden has fully and promptly cooperated. The reason there was a search of his house here in Delaware was he invited them in. And couldn't speaking there on ABC's this week heard here on Bloomberg radio. Republican Ohio congressman Mike Turner meantime among those slamming President Biden for document hoarding. I can think of no reason why the president should have taken home as a senator or as vice president, any classified documents that clearly have no protection, they're available and open to anybody. And Turner there on CBS face the nation which you can also hear every Sunday here on Bloomberg radio. President Biden is about to name Jeff zients, his next chief of staff sources say official announcement is coming tomorrow sciences the president's former COVID-19 Tsar. Hong Kong could be about to drop COVID PCR test requirements for travelers to and from Mainland China. That's according to RTHK world more on that coming up in just a few minutes here on Bloomberg daybreak Asia. Treasury secretary Janet Yellen says she expects Congress to eventually reach a bipartisan solution to raising the debt ceiling, but she says for now she is concerned. I believe members of Congress will understand that this is would impose a self imposed calamity on the United States and the world economy. And Yellen in an interview there with AP. And Buckingham Palace has just released new details on King Charles coronation. The palace revealing the king and queen will be crowned Saturday, may 6th at Westminster Abbey, question mark though still hangs over whether we will see Harry and Meghan the duke and Duchess of Sussex at the event. Global news 24 hours a day, I'm Denise Pellegrini. This is Bloomberg, Brian back over to you. Denise, thanks very much, 9 minutes past the hour here. Let's get to our guest Peter McGuire CEO at XM Australia. Peter, great to have you with us here. It's difficult to imagine the U.S. not slipping into recession. My question is one do you think that that will happen in two if the U.S. does go into inflation? How much does the rest of the world suffer? Well, good morning, grand. Happy new year from Azure slash Australia. Thank you. You're more than welcome. Sunny Sydney, I'll tell you what one would hope that you don't go into recession. But one looks, I think, through the lens of reality and it's looking rather shaky across mainland U.S.. I think one savior was certainly being the capitulation of U.S. dollar and that may be a very important part of this whole equation over the next matter of months. So if we can keep equity growth or at least not have a large seller, then that I think adds some horsepower to the overall sentiment out there. What keeps the dollar in muted, Peter? You know, I think there's just a lot of fear, the U.S. that was over. I think in some ways, when it was certainly I have a board at one 14 that U.S. dollar index now under one O two. And you've had a strong move to the upside for all of those currencies have a look at the Euro one O 8 60. You've got the yen now under one 30 and the pound is really being a very strong move since September. So all of that needs to be considered. If we see China reopening big time as we do, shouldn't I get long commodity currencies and how do you sort of see the Canadian dollar in the Aussie dollar moving here in the shorter term? I think they've got to have a nice move to the upside and I agree with you from a commodity play and certainly we've seen that in the last couple of weeks with strong base metal pricing on or and considering where we've also seen energy prices and have a look at the price of gold and silver. So it's been a strong three weeks since the start of the year for that whole sector and that would you would think bode very well for the likes of the Aussie and the Canadian dollar. So many traders have been long, and it's been a nice try to enjoy since really Christmas. What other kinds of trades if you do think the U.S. is going into recession, Peter, where else are you looking? Well, I'm conscious as far as gold and it's had such a massive move when out 1947 or 1948 and it just seems to be very solidly bit up. And, you know, maybe it's getting a little toppy, but I think there's probably still some momentum there with that U.S. dollar situation and a lot of uneasiness out there. So people, I'm not going to touch equities at the moment in the sense of trying to go short. I just want to see where they are over the next matter of at least on February 1st with decision time and then looking at China's back on play within the next two weeks or in two weeks time. Where that general momentum remains for all of February. So yeah, there's a lot to consider over the next 6 weeks and I think it's going to be quite an exciting time for trade. So let's talk a little bit about strategies for playing the China reopening. So far, we've seen a massive balance in the Internet stocks and the ecommerce stocks. Quite significant because they're big, they're pretty liquid, easy to move into. Does that continue or do you look for other ways to sort of get the next wave? Well, it's just being an almighty trade over the last in a couple of months and even if you look at the CSI 300, where it was in that October slash early November period, it was very, very heavily sold off and it's had a huge move to the upside. So I take on board from a technology play, I just want to consider which honor we've had a lot of green shoots was certainly oversold and whether that big move up. So I just want to see a possibly some consolidation at the moment, Braun leading into February and hold these sort of levels and then maybe we have another leg up. Come march, but I don't want to see a sell off globally and impacting the China market as it's starting to open. Well, on that, you mentioned Tesla as a company that you're interested in that you've been looking at pretty closely. Yeah. Yeah, we get earnings this week from some of the mega tech companies in the United States this weekend next week. What are you looking at in terms of tech firms and whether they're overpriced or overvalued? Well, like seem to be pretty much a
