"In Denver, Denver's mayor Hancock is sending a message about wearing masks to reduce the spread of Corona virus Face coverings are required in Denver. The mayor says he is concerned about an increase in the percentage of people testing positive for covert 19. The last time I updated you on our co bit impacts Our positivity rate was around 3% and today our lease as of July 3rd, we set at 4.5%. That is not good. We're going in the wrong direction. With regards to our positivity rate, the mayor warns. If the trend keeps going in the wrong direction, the city might have to reinstate measures that would devastate the economy. To help restaurant survive. Denver has approved 250 applications that allow for outside dining areas for restaurants and bars. This city has received 300 applications and has approved 83% of them. Several street closures have been approved for the outside dining. The permits are good through September 7th, Golden City officials unanimously passed an emergency ordinance requiring masks and all indoor and outdoor areas of the city. Golden officials are hoping the mask rule will stop the spread of Code 19 and keep businesses open. Douglas County officials are so upset about Tri County health officials mandating masks they voted to leave Tri County Health. Commissioner Laura Thomas says the Tri County Board of Health ignored the advice of its director John Douglas, who did not think Douglas County should be included in a mask mandate. Dr Douglas had not recommended That Douglas County have a mandatory mask order. That was his recommendation at the Board of Health meeting on Wednesday. However, at that board meeting those nine board members did not follow. Dr Douglas is recommendation. Thomas tells KOMO news radio that mask orders should come from elected officials. "Of different Peter Boyles that a friend of mine earlier today say that he had mentioned me several times on the air with respect to wipe wipe evidently had not called out mayor Hancock on but I and I didn't hear it a number of things that evidently Peter thinks would be important number one we were talking about that yesterday it was not that was not a topic the number two one thing I've learned in doing talk radio on time in a row Peter Peter I work together back in the eighties late eighties when I first started in in really good guy in and one of my friends but I have a hard enough time keeping track of what we talk about on the show I I never worry too much about what other people are talking about on their show so I don't know this seems like a pretty good suggestion third term to conduct yourself that way we want to talk about was my goal Michael Hancock was our story here about northern Hancock that we missed but I don't remember because I have no idea what he's right well my friend said he made reference to was something that Peter's been banging on the air for months and months and months so I don't know did you got you've got my number text me if you if you disagree we can chop it up but I I can't worry too much about what somebody else does on his or her show I got a hard enough time worrying about what we do on this show that sounds like you stay in your lane commenter my friend and I say that were they were very good friends but maybe Testamentum what what it was all about idea I don't they can't come on the air here no but I mean he could maybe tell you what I can do on his show probably not US anybody here anymore I mean we don't have a are we to which we don't listen we walk through here it's like the buildings falling down I mean we're gonna start working hard it like one of the call those hard hats hard hats actually you guys out on the third floor and worried for you because floor is a rack every time I go down there I'm just covered in like piles of dust right some just loud bang you know they are they are changing dramatically changing this building it's been going on for I don't know feels like about forty years eastern what a year and a half maybe yes they started last football season that when they started okay so I think before that because it's bad because these got done before last football season this floor yeah because you remember they said the bathrooms were gonna be close for like oh that's right I think that this is the year this floor has been done for a while this just this is more for yeah the fourth for that we're on the third floor it is done now yeah I think it's been longer than a year have you been done on the third floor it's unbelievable not recently I used to I used to go down there because it was the only floor couldn't figure this out there was only four that have like little goodies little little sacks like snacks so I could either steal a few and then because we were out here and you know nobody's going to nobody's going to you know put put new stuff in here so then then then all the stuff on the third floor was gone too so it's like Hey if you can find one little thing a coffee and a coffee mate you feel lucky it's been a good day Abbott said in your neighborhood look at you Kathy ever out snuck into the starting third floor I I eat you're walking to the bathroom I had to walk under scaffolding there's the hallway was filled up with these guys and scaffolds they're doing something with the dry wall you never walk in or schedule that's the only way to get to the bathroom and I didn't have time to run up to the fourth floor and is that these guys all got hard hats on and tools and stuff in here I am walking under them in there they've all been you know courteous they've they're great the guys are good guys and they're they're trying to be as courteous and respectful as they can but this is a full blown construction site we're working at and Dustin but there's a layer of dust on the third floor it feels like it it's affecting my throat like I am I feel like I've got allergy issues all the time and we're trying to feel sick know what I'm wanting you to I get check dust congestion yeah you should check my temperature you have a temperature I'm surprised I don't have a thermometer in my purse because you have to be very well Morrow you brought brought it today you're sort of R. den mother right now I mean every every young lad needs a den mother that's one of the nice things about were you cub scout Rick I was young did you not have a den mother yeah a seat I mean I'm just telling you the world would be a lot better place you don't you don't we don't have to get rid of dead mothers like for nine to ten years old when you're sixty we still need them we need went up strong willed smart on top of things women that can make certain that we stay in the middle of the road listen you and I or if we were to cub scouts long enough to learn how to tie knots also currently speak for yourself I said you know not a Tylenol but I you know what I could there was one night I learned how to time I could make a hell of a good ashtray but you can hi Rick I don't remember what it was but there was one I learned it and then I dropped out I could it doesn't it doesn't count if.

"Listen to new twirled on the I heart radio app however you get your podcasts news time seven twenty three now in Colorado's morning news the city of Denver moving closer re opening however mayor Hancock says don't expect to immediately get back to normal life this will not be just say exercise of flipping the switch well this is gonna be a gradual turning on the Denver Denver stayed home order set to expire on April thirtieth and the mayor says this week will be critical when it comes to deciding how to move forward she says any re opening effort will have to come in phases let's hear right now from the horse's mouth shall we right now we're getting a closer look at what those plans could look like with mayor Hancock live on our show good morning Hey good morning April good morning Marty are you booked on L. great thank you and and we're excited about trying to slowly get back to a semblance of of normal in the state let's talk a little bit about the difference between the state stay at home order in Denver stay at home order we've asked you this in the past is it because Colorado's needs are different than Denver's needs well I think they're more a very the governor we have a much more diverse you know cryptography and demographics that he has to manage the rule Colorado was in the some expects different than urban you know settings including Denver in the metro region so we have to take different things into consideration and so one of things that I think about it always talked about is that our incident in the Denver area is something that we have to consider and as well as the more robust certain industries are including restaurants and bars and night clubs and and what have you so that cause us to be closer and have a greater combine bill we have to take those things into consideration some of the things that are slowly coming open golf courses and some parks obviously with restrictions in the city to me mayor it sounds like it's almost that's almost like a pressure valve to we're saying we're not quite there yet but you can go outside and recreation some if you do the rules properly my reading that right yeah we've always said that we watch the private concourse connected by for a couple weeks before the termination that there are some protocols we can put in place to keep people safe and we watch as people you know implemented those protocols on the golf course is anything to be successful and so we decided we can go ahead and roll that aspect out but that's part of what we've always said party let's watch the data let's see how it impacts than it worked within the setting of Denver and then we can make some good decisions hopefully for the people down but it's all about keeping people safe and healthy and though that's how that's really the guideline and how we're going to make decisions but anytime people hear about something like golf courses they say why can't my kids play on the playground why can't my teenager skate in a skate park what do you say to them yeah we always have that we even answer some of those questions as well but again able we gotta be careful in terms of second guessing we are looking at data we're not doing the same coverage earlier even based on economics there based on what we can do to keep people safe and healthy for example you mention playgrounds you know the the virus living on the surface of the playgrounds with the number one concern why we decided to shut down the playgrounds we could not determine how long the buyers would live we cannot sanitize them in a in a way that you're able to keep people apart and to make sure that people are terrified and not sharing clubs on the golf course so it's a much more difficult complex situation one which we thought winder ga restore young people last time we had John we talked about the Colorado convention center being converted into a facility to care for people and obviously the the hope is that you never have to use it but I see that the delay to open it is what mid may so is a delay I take it as a good sign that things are going the way you would hope to yeah absolutely and it and it as well as making sure we have a little bit but mystical simply including the right medical oversight and operations there but what what the guards who you know not regarding the legalese and and and and the the the fine points of this you know as I said to the lieutenant general as we walk through the center and look at the magnificent operation that was in place I mean it was built in ten days it's amazing what they did in ten days I joke this is the kind of people you need to have on your basement what is the the build out this is without operation but I said to them as we walk through there and I spoke the entire group of construction workers my hope is that all your effort was for naught in terms of the fact we never need to use this and and they all of it the creed that we hope that people could exercise and then we would never have to use the the the facility knocking on wood we saw the market the iconic Denver either in low to announce that they're closing for good after something like thirty seven years many restaurant bar owners are up against a very strong possibility they won't be able to stay in business if they don't re open soon what do you say to them right now yeah you know what I've had conversations with many of them in a lot of companies are in peril a lot of business owners are hurting entrepreneurs are hurting jobs lost and that's what you know one of the leading reasons why this is either such tough decisions but you know what purposely as I said in the paper the other day you know we're going to work to save lives we can build rebuild economy prove it prove it over and over again that we can rebuild economy repeal companies both things can happen what we cannot rebuild our lives are lost and that's what we don't keep our focus from this point from day one I will keep doing that and we'll do everything we can to help our businesses and business owners when we go inside of this tour to hopefully revive division in our dreams and operations and our economies to dove tail off of April's question that's probably what you said about the Denver business relief fund right two million dollars in grants to support some of those small businesses yeah we had a total of four million Marty and and thankfully some some banks and credit unions and other donors to come forward and help those that four thousand dollars to it we're going to keep going the goal is to help you know some of this is about an hour after you get through this very difficult time opening a partnership with the federal government hopefully they passed a bill that really gets to the small ones at this time around and helps our spokesman businesses stand but it's been a difficult time we're not we're not at all ignore that it's one reason why very beginning that phone was put together every week on an effort of cobbling some of our resources here to city from day one was put together so you know we gotta find a way to help our small businesses they're critically important and by the way there are number one employers and our economy and state of Colorado yeah mayor thanks for the time as always we're crossing our fingers the city can reopen sooner rather than later thanks for what you all do always love talking to you thank you so much said just at seven thirty here your drivers which I can get a job most her email just Hey we've got ourselves a really good nice drive going for about ninety five percent of us this morning I guess there's a little bit of construction on that was bound by seventy six drive back you up from ninety six down to eighty eight yeah now they've got that construction project on the boulder Terbaik he's found right around federal that's got your back up before federal all the way down to pickles right lane is blocked it clear that crash going down at the tech center to better drive there it was southbound I. twenty five right near Choo Choo five that is out of there got a crash up in the high country well that's a southbound two eighty five approaching and Terrel junction on the other side of fair play per the state patrol Colorado's on statewide action alerts so if you're in a minor crash no alcohol or drugs involved nobody gets hurt are you can file your report online this report is sponsored by your local Ford store coming together makes a strong word for his bill to lend a hand.

"Kaelin is radio time is four thirty I'm Cathy Walker top story we're standing by to bring you live coverage of governor Poloz he'll be in the west for a day of the state capitol with a briefing on corona virus twenty nine new cases have just been reported by the state health department bringing the total number in Colorado to one hundred sixty Denver is ordering bars and restaurants to close drive through and carry out will still be permitted that's mayor Hancock saying that mass gatherings will not be allowed but that order doesn't include things like the pharmacy a bus stop or the grocery store it would also not apply to either a church or a homeless shelter there is concern in the metro area about how arts organizations will handle all of this the bond V. Stanton foundation says it will be ready to provide emergency funding to forty three all arts and culture organizations that it serves across the metro area we are again are standing by for the governor but first let's check if the bad drive at the Brighton area we had a crash on Bromley lane between eighteen to twenty seven and that was that closed abruptly lane in both directions so that's been real real ugly address your drive though anything but ugly is spending a pretty decent drive this afternoon I twenty five your I. seventy drive two two five yeah you're heavy through downtown northbound is jammed up as you make your way up toward the up towards Sixth Avenue southbound is in pretty good shape into the techs are overall a pretty light traffic day.

"Pinpoint weather mostly sunny and clear day ahead right now thirty eight on our way to a high of sixty five right now in Colorado's morning news Denver St Patrick's day parade now cancelled the large gatherings of people are being discouraged due to corona virus and we had a chance to talk to mayor Hancock earlier today or this morning and asked him what led to that cancellation personally you're free one of things we talk about our money was this was an evolving situation as we learn more information as we dig deeper we have conversations nothing could change and so one of things I want to do is to make sure that the public understood that you know we're not going to make snap decisions we're gonna make sure we understand what's happening and what's going to be in the best interests of everyone but I did speak with the organizer's of the of the parade on Tuesday morning yesterday morning the phone number of committee very energetic and dedicated I tell you this was a tough call with that that was a tough call for them we talked with him earlier there are now nearly twenty cases of corona virus in our state in the growing problem led the governor to declare a state of emergency the bottom line is this the more people we test and the sooner we do it the better chance we have a successful containment let's get into it live with the governor good morning and thanks for coming on we appreciate it good morning I'm hope everybody's being careful out there and you know it's not going to work what does a state of emergency due so you know this is what's done it's been done when we've had wild virus in the past the great flood of twenty thirteen the number of times in this case it allowed those additional authority to help combat the spread of corona virus D. two steps we've taken the date is normally people that are sixty five and a half to going to a DMV to renew their license they can now renew it online just as people sixty four and under can do so if you're seventy seventy five out there need to retract license do it online on a mobile populations need to be protected as much out of the policy rate for people over sixty the second thing we're doing is we're ordering that there is short term sick leave for workers include handling in in home care work in health care work we want to make sure that people don't feel they have to go to work if they have what is normally a head cold or might be a mild case of flu in this case it might be corona virus get dot your doctor and and and see if you can get past it but for three or four days we want to make sure that you're able to get paid so you can make your rent and then if you have coronavirus or fourteen days off governor I know you've done a nice job of trying to stem people's concerns you've also let people know that likely the cases in the state are going to rise so how do you balance the the being prudent in being abundantly cautious but at the same time not over reacting to the situation either so we thought we test about three earn five three and five people in Colorado you seventeen cases that have been a positively identified were expecting they'll be more now we have a lot of tour is coming to our state we're expecting there could be some some hot spots and will act quickly in those areas with with decisive actions for those regional outbreaks but in the meantime again the personal individual responsibility of this is key if you're ill don't go to work wash your hands regularly I mean you know before before handling food after going to bathroom during the day which sell for twenty seconds right if you cough cover your mouth just as this common sense things that sometimes people get a little lax on because we're not too worried about the seasonal cold but this is something that is you know thirty forty times worse than that we really need to act boldly to prevent it from the outbreak from occurring washer in Colorado governor are you worried that people here state of emergency and they think well I'm gonna hunker down and not leave my house I'm talking about well people and that that that it has a severe effect on the economy restaurants shut down its after well yeah there's no there's no reason to hunker down and not leave your house and you know obviously people are going to work or recreation the only general warning for the public is that if you're in a overall population believe you're over sixty or you know compromise avoid large gatherings such as sound advice over the next few weeks the victory in the one the highest risk groups the best advice we give usable at large gatherings of of people in in the meantime again we're developing the protocols around protecting our nursing homes if you look at what happened Washington state they've had nineteen deaths in a single nursing home or just check on like wildfire when I talk to their governor the other day they said it literally like a bomb went off so we're trying to establish as particles protect our nursing homes or senior care facilities here it will be rolling out more today again in the meantime we just want to make sure the people who are ill treated very seriously of course if the if your diet and we we have we set up a drive through testing facility at Lowry today did you do to doctor's orders so you need to talk to your doctor communicate with your doctor and Haskins approved that's a safe place to go our goal is increasing testing capacity have been very disappointed with the lack of testing we need to be able to test tens of thousands of Coloradans everyday right now we're only able to test hundreds every day so would you be disappointed in that but then how do you get the resources and tools to do that is that a fed problem do you go and say I need to have more test it's here in the states where where do you go for that we have a device president no level at the head of the CDC email we have about nine hundred test your we have about fifteen hundred that we're hoping CDC send us we're also working with and encouraging our local partners like children's hospital you see how much of a developing scalable local testing finally lab core and class to come online these are the two big testing comes very tested for anything you know by your doctor or even a lab that's where it goes they're doing it that now they have a three or four day turnaround on the past week which is good now our state lab as a twenty four hour turnaround that's better but at least we're able to scale up the longer turnaround where they can send out samples so they can just quest lab core samples the most any facility in the state the take samples for other purposes but again call your doctor the main concern of doctors and hospitals are they don't want people just that might be contagious just coming into their lobbies and spreading it so again if you have the cold if you have the flu the chances are that's what it is right I mean most cases where people have it that it's far more common but we want to take those precautions and be more careful than you normally are that's ready to others this is a respiratory virus it generally the symptoms are a cost it's not so much the head cold stopping us and it's not a stomach virus so you're less likely to have it if you have the stuffed up congestion head cold or give some buyers is largely respiratory breathing problems cough those are the first line symptoms and of course it's it's much more severe than even a bad case of seasonal flu there's one elementary school Corey elementary in DPS that is closed today because of a parent who was affected or infected out of an abundance of caution should districts cancel classes in colleges be online we're working on those protocols now again for for what districts and when destruction cancel classes if a student has it at the school other needs to be a period of time where we see if it's if other students are caught it before decision to close the school for a period of weeks takes place but we're working on those protocols with school districts with the commissioner of education we expect to roll those out either today or tomorrow governor Polish thank you as always for your time we appreciate if you thank you checking drive once again John Morrissey because others say Patrick's day parade was quote was canceled in Denver they were all so fast this morning maybe that's why we're crash in our cars with amazing regularity I you've got a bunch of accidents are you a new one I love that you have seventy are they clear the crash on northbound abilities so a little bit better drive through the tech center but you're still real heavy they're still got that crashed or about Santa Fe approaching middle that's a real mess new crash on eastbound two eighty five Hampton they clear the one pretty much at what's worth now you've got a crash eastbound two eighty five Hampton at university add one over twenty five so double trouble that he's bound him to drive westbound C. four seventy still clogged up by an earlier crash coming up for Morrison road up to I. seventy the crash right here before I seventy up on the north side you still get the lays on one twenty eight at Sam's or hundred twentieth depending on how you call it westbound I. seventy at chambers that crash in the clean up stages but that is still slow from tower road and.
