It happened outside the Williamsburg charter high school on their street about two this afternoon. The alleged NYPD cop killer has had previous run ins with the law, mayor Adams telling MSNBC. He's not surprised 38 year old Randy Jones as a criminal record. The revolving door recidivism that you're seeing in not only New York, but our country is impacting how we keep our city safe. Jones was arrested once in the city for strangulation and two other times in Virginia after his arrest and Robin county he's now charged with murder and attempted robbery and the deadly shooting of 26 year old adid valais, the officer and his brother in law meeting up with Jones in Brooklyn to buy a car they had seen on Facebook marketplace, cops suspect Jones may be connected to a similar crime in the area. In New Jersey, authorities are investigating after a disgruntled former employee shot and killed the worker at the PSC and G facility on western canal road and Franklin township. It happened about 9 this morning. David Lee Miller: Migrants Unprepared for Weather in Housing Standoff

"Few dozen migrants living on the streets say they will not move all of them are single men who were told this weekend. They had to leave their rooms at a westside hotel in order to make room for migrants with families, including women and children. The plan was for all the single men to be relocated to a cruise line terminal in Brooklyn that has been set up as a temporary shelter. Many of the migrants say the terminal is not acceptable and want better quality housing. They are now not being allowed back into the hotel a few dozen migrants remain there. They refuse to leave. Some holdouts were removed this afternoon, a number boarded buses taking them to that Brooklyn site while just as many decided to camp outside on the street outside the hotel. Now New York City homeless outreach workers have tried and failed to convince the men that living on the street is not an option, although the migrants did agree to remove a dozen or so tense. One of the migrants from the Dominican Republic who said his name was Wilson, broke down in tears, discussing his flight. He told me he came here to work and is not being treated humanely. He said the shelter is cold, uncomfortable and just not have enough bathrooms. He says it's not far from the subway and that they lock the doors at 11 o'clock, which makes it difficult for him to keep a job. The mayor's office for its part, issued a statement that reads in part and I quote, the facilities at Brooklyn Cruz terminal will provide the same services as every other humanitarian leaf center in the city and the scheduled relocations to Brooklyn cruise terminal this weekend took place as planned. We remained in serious need of support from both our state and federal governments. So with this hour, it's not uncertain, it's not certain what's going to happen to the migrants who are living on the street. Temperatures right now hovering around 50° later this week. They're expected to drop significantly into the 20s. These migrants simply do not have the clothing and the gear to withstand those type of temperatures. Meanwhile, mayor Adams is saying that the city is overwhelmed by the sheer number of migrants, 46,000 in spring. The migrants with their part say they deserve better quality housing that the city argues it can not afford.

"You know, I think it might have been that same speech or maybe the following year where mayor de Blasio talked about starting a new subway line, running south on the IRT line that currently terminates at Utica avenue. It never happened. You know, I think they may have spent a little planning money to sort of scope it out a little bit or talk about some of what might be involved just to make sure it didn't completely fall off the schedule, but nobody really expected those things to happen. We didn't hear a lot of that for barrack Adams. I was waiting to hear him talk about something where you could sort of say, oh, great idea, but it'll probably never happen. Now, this was pretty, this was pretty close to reality already. You know, you may have to knock a zero off one or two of these proposals, but he stuck to what mostly he stuck to what American actually do, as opposed to the things that you have to get a lot of help from the federal government from the state government from the city council. The mayor really put a lot of these proposals, he focused on what is clearly within his own powers. And that was a really striking aspect to the speech. You know, we didn't talk about any of this before. We got on online here to talk. And I agree with you. It was really remarkable how sort of nuts and bolts and city operations. It was, it was. In some ways, again, I think that's pretty refreshing in that it does fit a theme for Eric Adams, which has been that obviously he's been focused on crime and public safety throughout his career from the NYPD through elected office through the campaign in 2021 through the beginning of his mayoralty. But then beyond that, it's sort of, he's talked so much about making government work better and delivering more and being more efficient and effective. And I think this just continued along that theme. I mean, the driving force he didn't use this term maybe more than once or twice, but just sort of quality of life stuff for living in New York City. I think was a really major theme here that was very interesting to hear him talk about. I did, it did strike me though that even though he noted some of the significant challenges the city is facing continued issues with public safety, the asylum seeker crisis and some others. This not that this wouldn't be unexpected, but it was a very positive sort of fairly rosy picture of where New York City's at, which is not always the way that Eric Adams talks. What did you make of sort of how he presented that to me there was a little bit of a contrast in the way he's often sort of framing things because I think he can very often sort of be talking about the problems in a very stark way that sometimes undersell some of the work that the city is actually doing on them. Yeah.

"They're in the middle right now or the early stages of negotiating this year's state budget, which has to be done by April after which those city will figure out its allocation and start working on its budget. So yes, the mayor needs a lot of help from Albany, and that's just in the normal course of business. There's some extraordinary challenges that are going to require even more help. And the mayor alluded to a lot of that in the speech today. So yes, he was very pleased that the governor was there. We should all be somewhat happy that at least there's some kind of implied connection strong enough to have her break with tradition and actually show up at the speech. It would be unusual if she then went back to Albany and said, we're going to slash the city's allocation of funding by 30% or something. So we'll see where it all leads. But a very welcome sign that a different kind of negotiation than we're used to seeing is going to happen as the state puts its budget together. So other than the governor's presence in that sense of collaboration and that effort by mayor Adams to continue to ensure that governor hochul is on his good side, although I'll say there are moments that are pretty notable where sometimes he says some things that I'm not sure the governor looks unfavorably, but I suppose that's going to happen with any mayor. What else stood out to you from either sort of the broader themes of the mayor's speech or the way that he approached the speech or specific takeaways on announcements, policies, what were some of the biggest things you're thinking about here just an hour after he gave this speech. My initial take which I felt strongly even while the speech was being delivered was that it was very granular speech. This was not broad sore envisions of what the city could do or how the city could transform itself, used to get a little bit of that from Bill de Blasio. You used to get a little of that from mayor Bloomberg. This was not about transforming the city. This was about making the city run. So this was very granular about what to do with what he called COVID cabins, meaning those dining sheds. Talking about killing racks, talking about composting and garbage pickups. I mean, that's as basic to the operation of a city as you could possibly get. And here's the mayor actually talking about it. Not surprisingly, the mayor, sidestepped a lot of the most pressing problems like the migrant crisis in all of its dimensions, like the problems with Rikers Island, which are severe and always growing. Like the problems in the housing authority, including the half close to half $1 billion in rent arrears that could probably sink the finances of that agency. There's some real serious problems. This wasn't the place for that. And so he sidestepped those. That's understandable. But he also didn't do things like what we heard in the state of the city speech. I believe it was his first one by Bill de Blasio, where he talked about decking over the sunnyside yards and, you know, creating some whole new basically city within a city out in western queens.

"Hello and welcome to max politics. This has been max from Gotham gazette, a publication of citizen union foundation. Thanks very much for tuning in here for the show. It's Thursday. January 26th, 2023. We are speaking just a short time after mayor Eric Adams delivered his second state of the city address from queens, really in a sense somewhat his first state of the city address last year in 2022 his first year as mayor. He gave what was something of a state of the city, something of a 100 days in speech, something of a vision for the future, but now he's been mayor for a little over a year and he's really had a chance to dig into the job. And so this was him reflecting on his first year as mayor and then also advancing in agenda for the future. Joining me in a moment to break it down and discuss more broadly how mayor Adams is doing a little over one year into office and what to watch for in the mayor's year ahead. Is the great Errol Lewis political anchor at spectrum news and host of New York one's inside city hall is also a columnist at New York magazine. In his 2023 state of the city, speech mayor Adams portrayed the city as in very good shape and on the upswing while also facing several major challenges. He focused a lot on collaboration with others in government, especially governor Kathy hochul, who was in attendance, very rare circumstance for what we've seen in the past a very refreshing break from some of the traditions of the de Blasio Cuomo years, of course. Mayor Adams address was focused on what he called four pillars of jobs, safety, housing, and care. He outlined a very long list of proposals and promises. We won't be able to get into them all now, but we'll have coverage of course from Errol and his colleagues in New York one, and we will have a full write up at Gotham gazette so you can check out all the details in those ways and of course you can always read what the mayor's office itself puts out, but we'll get into some of the details in some of the big picture here, but some of his promises and plans included, but we're not limited to trying to focus on crime and public safety related to a group of recidivists. Equitable economic development, including increasing things like apprenticeship programs, he's looking to launch the country's largest curbside composting program over the next couple of years and some other climate related matters. He talked a lot about this big focus on housing development, including some new initiatives around a planning process for rethinking zoning in midtown Manhattan and on Staten Island's north shore. He talked about electrifying for higher vehicles all four higher vehicles in the city. He talked about providing

"Here, encrypted, it's 10 p.m. Pacific time, my name is nicodemus and welcome back to the crypto overnighter, where we take a nightly look at the crypto NFT and metaverse space, and keep in mind nothing in this show should ever be considered financial advice. It's November 27th, 2022, 10 o'clock p.m. Pacific time. Here we go. Vladimir Putin made a return to crypto news. The Russian president is unhappy with the current state of things. Specifically the near monopoly of the global payment systems. In addition, he called for an independent blockchain settlement network. Now he was speaking at the international AI journey conference in Moscow when he set a new system of international settlements could be created that would be more convenient and safer its users and would be resistant to the actions of third party countries. He said quote, I'm confident that something like this will certainly be created and will develop because nobody likes the dictate of monopolists, which is harming all parties, including the monopolists themselves. Now he's understandably not a big fan of this sanctions leveled against him and his country. And while he noted the financial difficulty that Russians aggression against Ukraine has had on global payments, he called the sanctions quote illegitimate restrictions. He said, the existing system of international payments is expensive, the system of its correspondent accounts and regulation are controlled by a narrow club of states and financial groups. Note that this comes right after the Duma announced that they were looking at amendments to their existing corporate to their existing crypto legislation, and that after the Duma also introduced a bill that would let Russian citizens mine crypto, and then sell the proceeds of their mining. Anatoly ask a cough is the chairman of the Dumas financial markets committee. Ask a cop said that the passage of the law will quote bring this activity into the legal field and make it possible to form a law enforcement practice on issues related to the issuance and circulation of digital currencies. Now let's go from the streets of Moscow to the streets of New York because New York City mayor Eric Adams has a problem. You see, he promised that he was going to turn New York into a crypto hub. This was before New York governor Kathy hochul signed a new law. That new law bans proof of work mining for at least two years. Now we do know that mayor Adams did say that he was going to ask the governor to veto the bill, which was clearly less than successful. And that means if Adams wants to turn NYC into the crypto capital of the world, he's going to have to figure out how to work with these legislators. Now he was speaking with the New York Daily News when he said quote I'm going to work with the legislators who are in support and those who have concerns. And I believe we're going to come to a great meeting place. Now personally, I'm just not as optimistic because this proof of work mining ban is a big deal. Now first, it stops new businesses from setting up shop. It also means the refusal of licenses for already operating businesses. Now presently, the U.S. is the world leader for Bitcoin hash rate. The United States produces 37.8% of the world's hash rate. A two year ban on mining just Bitcoin will really hurt the state of New York. Now throw all the other coins mined by proof of work. New York is just going to struggle to keep up. Much less become a crypto hub. The importance of which is not lost on mayor Adams. He said quote, we must become a welcoming place for all technology. And crypto is part of the overall technology we're looking at. The question is, how do we make smart choices so that New York City and America is a leader in this new technology? Personally, I would remind the mayor that New York has the strictest exchange rules in the country. They instituted the bit license scheme in 2015. Now a bit licenses for crypto organizations and it has been criticized as being overly hostile to crypto. Which means that New York would have to compete with Texas because their governor seems to have a much different opinion on Bitcoin than governor hochul does. Texas governor Greg Abbott was recently quoted as saying that Bitcoin is good for the power grid. He said quote, we are promoting Bitcoin. We are advancing it and we are providing a platform for it. Bitcoin is the cutting edge of innovation in the world. And like mayor Adams, governor Abbott wants his state to become a crypto hub. He said he knows the potential represented by Bitcoin and what it means for the world. The governor said that he wants Texas to play a major role in all that. He said that Texas represents a place where people who are active in Bitcoin. It gives them somewhere to meet and work together. When he was asked what Texas is doing to advance crypto, Abbott said that the state has established a number of regulations to make it easier to mine Bitcoin. Further, he said Texas has established a working group to take a look at what kind of legislation is needed to make Texas even more accommodating to the Bitcoin industry. Now one of the things that he brought up was that the power grid in Texas is open and independent. And most states have their power in a single utility program for the region. Because there are two things at present that seem to be making Texas more attractive for Bitcoin. In addition to the welcoming nature of Bitcoin friendly, Texas lawmakers, Texas also is abundant in terms of natural resources. Now incidentally, Abbott doesn't seem too concerned about the collapse of FTX. He did, however, call out his opponent beto o'rourke for a large donation from Sam bankman fried, demanding that any politicians that took money from SPF should return it. Now from Texas, let's turn our attention northward to our friends in Canada. One of their trading platforms is having some issues. Coin square is the first Canadian trading platform to be registered by the investment industry regulatory organization of Canada. Now, sadly, they suffered a data breach, which saw users personal information made vulnerable. However, they insist customer assets are quote secure in cold storage and are not at risk. Now, ironically, coin square builds itself as quote Canada's trusted platform to securely buy, sell and trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, and more. While they had to email their customers to report a data incident as they call it. They set an unauthorized third party had accessed a customer database that this database held things like quote customer names, email addresses, residential addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, device IDs, public wallet addresses, transaction history, and account balances. So they sent this email out on the 25th. Even though the breach was discovered last week, and had even been reported on Twitter. So if you want to coin squares, Twitter customers, you knew about the breach. If you're not on Twitter, you may not have found out until that email was sent. At any rate, they said that passwords were not exposed during the breach. When coin squared detected it, they shut operations down, which of course prompted rumors of coin square having liquidity issues. And with all the mess going around with FTX, who can blame them. As it turns out, customer funds are reportedly safe, full service was restored again with a tweet on Friday.

"News update. A trio of presidents are campaigning in Pennsylvania today. President Biden and former president Obama will headline a democratic rally for lieutenant governor John fetterman in Philadelphia. Former president Trump is set to hold a rally near Pittsburgh for GOP candidates he has endorsed. A new poll says a large majority of Americans are concerned about politically motivated violence, just days before the midterm elections, a Washington Post ABC News poll found 88% of respondents said political divisions are creating an increased risk of violence in the U.S. 63% said they were very concerned while 25% said they were somewhat concerned, after a threat against synagogues in New Jersey, the NYPD says it's stepping up security. Officials say out of an abundance of caution, its counter terrorism bureaus are working alongside the FBI to ensure safety at synagogues in New York City and the tri state area. Meantime, New York City mayor Adams and other officials are meeting with Jewish leaders. That's the latest I'm Julie Ryan. Your listening to balance and power with David Westin on Bloomberg radio. Midterm elections will be held Tuesday across the country. I got analysis from both sides of the aisle. Republican congressman Patrick mchenry of North Carolina and former New York congressman Joe Crowley. First, I asked Joe for his view on the New York governor's race. I think that perception is reality from any people. It's unfortunate that mister Zelda had an attempt of a stabbing at a political rally as well as having two people shot out in front of his house. And he's used the issue of crime and the perception of the rise in it, as well as the reality for people who are victims of that. To parlay that into the politics, Kathy hochul is a proven governor of proven legislative proven governor now. And she's going to do what she has to do to get the state back in order. And I do think when it comes to the issue of choice, as well as the fact that this is not a pataky Rockefeller esque Republican. This is an anti choice Republican. This is a Republican and Lee selden who not only works with Donald Trump embraces the theories of Donald Trump that the election was stolen from him. He was an election denier. He also voted against certification for Joe Biden. It's really hard for me to imagine that someone that extreme is going to be elected governor of the state of New York. But he comes across as perhaps extreme on crime, which is an issue that is really important to a lot of people. Certainly around the New York City area that you know terribly well. He's come out really tough on that. Might that not appeal to some voters because it hasn't been as clear that Kathy hochul is just tough on crime. Well, I think it will resonate with certain voters. I do think that Kathy hochul is someone who is a proven legislator was said she was a member of Congress. She was the she was lieutenant governor and now governor. I think she was going to do what needs to be done in order terrain in these issues once she's reelected. And really, really seeing what legislatures shall be dealing with in terms of the Senate and the assembly at that time. But I think she's going to use that bully pulpit in a very, very strong way to really realize some of these issues back in, especially as it pertains to the issue of crime. Let me talk about another race up in the Hudson valley for Congress with Sean Patrick maloney, who is in a leadership position of sorts. He's had a D.C., I believe, right? Yeah. And he seems to have a pretty tough race himself up in Hudson valley. Well, again, you know, those districts up in the Hudson valley are always contentious. Maurice and she always had a tough race. Showing himself has always had remember he took a seat from a Republican. His someone who's tried and true in terms of his results. And so it's where his house is. It's this district. He was drawn into this new district. And I think in the end he'll prevail. What also is happening here is that he's got the title of the chair of the DCCC so Republicans are loving the fact that the chair of the digital sea is under the duress. But keep in mind, one of the reasons why he is the chair of the D.C. is because speaker Pelosi recognizes that those individuals who actually are a battle tested in tough districts she wants them to be the chair of the committee because they understand what these people are going through. I think that's why she chose Sean in the first place. So you obviously are a Democrat, lifelong Democrat. And we have to take that into account. But do you think the Democratic Party waited too long to really go after the economic issues? They've spent so much time on social issues, things like abortion and things. I had to sense maybe they were trying to run away from it. Well, look, there's no doubt that with gas prices up. I think historically speaking, this is not historically generally a good year for incumbent members of the president's party. You want democratic Republican with few exceptions. But one point I want to make, there are other issues. Is the issue of abortion and the Dobbs decision. There is the issue of the one 6 commission and democracy itself. And I will say this, I know that many people are having difficult times with the economy. But bad economies come and go. Good economies come and go. Sometimes you're blamed for it, whether you have all to do with it or not. When Democrats control the Republican control, everything, you get the blame and you get the good side of that as well. But what doesn't come and go is democracy. If democracy goes, it doesn't come back. You know, this experiment that we've had for almost 250 years. It's really under duress. And I think that's what people have to keep in consideration when they go to vote this November. It's a terribly powerful point, but do you think it's resonating with voters? Well, I think for people that really have to think about that. What country do they envision for America? Do you want to totalitarian state? Where the government controls everything, every aspect of your life, including your

"Hall with a world premiere by Marcos baltar and works by Tanya Leone, John Adams and resign. Tickets at NY Phil dot org. You're listening to the BBC NewsHour here on WNYC. Clad for your company, I'm Tiffany Hansen, making headlines closer to home this weekend, mayor Adams is committing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in municipal construction projects. He signed an executive order yesterday that directs certain city agencies to use low carbon concrete and low emission vehicles and equipment for construction. The city passed a law last year that bans natural gas and other carbon based fuels in new buildings starting in 2024. Looking for partly cloudy skies tonight overnight a little 59°. Chance for showers moves into the forecast tomorrow afternoon. Right now, however, we are at 68° in the city. It's WNYC at four 20. This is Rebecca kesby with NewsHour live from the BBC in London. Now on Friday evening, Arizona became the latest American state to effectively ban abortions when a judge ruled that a law passed in 1864 should still be enforced. The Biden administration has called the potential consequences of this ruling, catastrophic, dangerous, and unacceptable, and said that it would set Arizona's women back more than a century, but how will the ruling be received in the swing state, especially with the midterm elections just around the corner. Let's speak to Stacey barce, who is a state political reporter for the Arizona republic newspaper and she joins us live Stacy, welcome to the program. Hi there. Thanks for having me. Well, first of all, tell us about this law. I mean, 1864 was when it came in I presume that's been sort of obsolete since roe versus wade, but of course everything's changed now. Yeah, you're absolutely right. So this law first was put on the books here in Arizona in 1864 for context, what was happening in the country at that time, the American Civil War, Arizona wasn't even a state. It didn't become a state until 50 years later, and this also happened 60 years before women were granted the right to vote in the country. Lawmakers here have re enshrined this law multiple times, it says that any abortions except for to save the life of a pregnant woman can be punished by jail time prison time. And it was the law of the land here for quite some time. The roe decision in 1973 led to an injunction against it. So for the past 50 years, prosecutors here have not been able to enforce this ban because of that injunction. Of course, that was thrown out on Friday, and now we're back into confusing territory. Yeah. Well, we know all the president thinks of it saying it's catastrophic for the women of Arizona, but what do people make of it locally? And of course we have got the midterms coming up. Could this have political consequences within the state? Oh, I mean, absolutely. We, you know, after the Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs in June, we already saw politicians here in Arizona. Seizing on the restriction of rights abortion rights as campaign issues and now that the existing law is nearly a total ban, the reaction from democratic lawmakers here was instant. You saw candidates for U.S. Senate and for governor immediately seizing on this, both as a fundraising call out for their campaigns, but just painting themselves as the candidates that are going to protect abortion rights, whereas their Republican counterparts only want to limit it. We saw a lot of rhetoric about Republicans being extreme on this issue. From the democratic candidates immediately commitments for from organizations like Planned Parenthood, which is one of the largest abortion providers here in Arizona to funnel money to Democrats to help them win in November. Okay, and what about, I mean, you're talking about Republican politicians, but what about Republican voters? Is this kind of a bit more nuanced there? Presumably, particularly within the women voter people there. That surely that's making a difference. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean, we were already watching what suburban women would do in November where they land. And we know from polling that arizonans overwhelmingly support a right to an abortion, not without restrictions, but they do believe there should be some access. With this ruling yesterday, there is almost no access, and so I think in terms of the decisions that even conservative voters are making ahead of November, this is really a pivotal ruling that came down yesterday. And so what are the chances that there is going to be even more legal wrangling on this? Perhaps another challenge to this in the court. Oh, guaranteed, I would say, you know, this is such a high profile and controversial issue. We have not gotten confirmation that there will be an appeal of this ruling from yesterday. Although I am betting that there will be and another sort of complication here on the ground in Arizona is today a new law that banned abortions after 15 weeks went into effect. So there is just confusion about what is the law. And that will need to be sorted out by courts going forward. I'm not easy for health professionals to navigate either. Stacey boche, thank you so much for joining us live on the line there. She is a state political reporter for the Arizona republic newspaper. Steve Bannon: 'They're Gonna Have to Kill Me to Stop Me'

"Is clear. This is all part and parcel of criminalizing conservatives in the speech in Philadelphia is the nadir or the crossing of the Yoruba con in that criminalization. But the idea that Steve Bannon, who's if there was one issue outside of the navy, perhaps if there's one issue that was closest to your heart in the last 6 years, it was building the wall that somehow you would build Americans out of money to build the wall. We've never had a donut. What we did in LPs. People want to see what we did their videos up and watch the movie saraka. Sicario. Sicario. Sicario is a story seen with Emily bloom. It's a story of El Paso, Texas, and Juarez. That's when we built the first wall straight up that multi cartels trafficked all the people. Look, I am so proud of the work we did and we're building one. Quite frankly, the ironies today is that mayor Adams has a team at the border today to find out what the causes are because he's made New York a sanctuary city. We literally have thousands of these unauthorized aliens coming into the country by 4.9 million. He's taken them when Abbas are busting up there, but now they're all going to New York. He's putting up in hotels in New York, social services are going to collapse. So Adam was actually sent a delegation to the, to the board of the day. He should have gone to the wall, or he should have, as you remember, Seth, we took it all over the country, saying every weekend of the phrase, every town's a boulder town, every space of border state, we went to Detroit. We went to Cincinnati. We went to Arizona. We started telling people we did conferences at the wall of the town of what were we telling them that this situation unless we finish the wall is going to get out of control and in 2022, it's so out of control that even Eric Adams on the day I get hold into a court is Senate delegation down there to find out what's going on. Look, I'm never going to stop. They're going to have to kill me to stop me, okay?

"The bill, which would gradually cap classes at 22 25 students depending on the grade level. I'm looking closely at it. I am inclined to be supportive. I just have to work out a few more details with the mayor. I spoke to him about it yesterday. Mayor Adams has argued a bill does not include funding for more classroom space and teachers, but the governor says she plans to resolve that with in days. The MTA's congestion pricing plan created a jam of another con yesterday when hundreds of people signed up to speak at the first public hearing on the matter. The plan was told drivers and Manhattan south of 68th street as much as $23 during Russia, the MTA aims to implement the plan late next year, but Bronx resident Luke sabado says it should only be the beginning. The MTA, this is great. We need this immediately, but we can go bigger. This needs to be paired with realistic and immediate micro mobility options. Revenue from congestion price and we go toward funding mass transit with about 80% going to subways and buses. A narrow victory in the crowded tenth congressional district this week has reignited calls to use ranked choice voting in more New York elections. That's a system that allows voters to rank their top 5 candidates rather than having to select just one. In the wide open race, former federal prosecutor Dan Goldman unofficially has won with 25% of the vote, the rest of the voters split among a crowded field, Deb Otis is a researcher with the group fair vote, which tracks rank choice elections nationwide. This is an obvious example where in a crowded primary ranked choice voting is really needed to help parse voters true intentions. "Not that you're laughing, but are you looking at the mayor's nimby here and thinking, told you so? Yeah, I think well, I'm glad that there are at least finally acknowledging that illegal migrants and aliens coming across the border can potentially be a problem. So, I mean, yeah, I mean, to see mayor Bowser mayor Adams, they're just having a fraction of what happens on the border. I mean, you've got, you've got cities of 20,000 people that are seeing four or 500 people a day coming through towns just a 100,000 that a thousand a day. They're complaining about a total of 4000 busted them from Arizona and Texas. And you know, well, grow up. I mean, let's face it, let's work together now and secure the border.

"Details and traffic first Michael Barr with what else is going on in New York and around the world. Good morning, Michael. Good morning, Nathan, New York mayor Eric Adams held round table style meeting involving community groups and the NYPD. Adams was asked about the problem of abuse of landlords in the city. Are we going to go back and see how we use the human rights division, the police department of DA's office to target those who are asked who are harassing older adults. Because, you know, it's against the law to illegally evict is against the law to harass. And I don't think there's enough attention on zero then on those bad acting on landlords. Mayor Adams dealt with a range of issues from oversight of homeless shelters and budget, mayor Adams said the police budget remained flat, can't live in a city where young people pick up a gun faster than they can get an iPad. "Gould explains. Schools are losing hundreds of thousands of dollars or more going into next year. Teachers have been notified, they're losing their current jobs and have to find positions elsewhere, and administrators say they may have to cut after school programs, arts, or enrichment as well. Mayor Adams says these aren't budget cuts. The city is reallocating money based on enrollment, increasing funds where enrollment is up and decreasing funds where it's down. Public schools have lost 80,000 students over the past two years, but many parents and educators say they need all the resources they can get to recover from the pandemic, and that cutting programs will just push more people to leave the system. Jesse Watters: Why Are We Feeding Illegals Before Americans?

"Jesse watters had his own unique take on this reprehensible situation yesterday on Fox News channel. Why are we feeding illegal babies ahead of American babies? Why can illegals get baby formula from border agents, but we can't get it at Walgreens? Does any of this make sense? None of this is rocket science. For instance, we have oil in Alaska. Gas. Just broke a record. It's almost what? Four 50 a gallon? What is Joe Biden do today? Shuts down a massive oil lease in the state of Alaska. Is anybody in The White House thinking? Inflation is at a record high. So how about we stop spending and stop printing? Right? It's the same thing with defund the police. We want to treat everybody on the street with respect, but we want to give the police the tools to fight crime. Everybody agrees with that. Judge jeanine said the other day, mayor Adams and Manhattan, taken thousands of guns off the street, but the crime is going up. Why? Because we're not taking the criminals off the street.

"President John Williams plus we got news this week that the CDC is extending a travel mask mandate will get an update on where we stand in the fight against COVID First up though as we have been covering all week shots rang out in Brooklyn Tuesday morning resulting in 23 people being injured at a subway station A day after the tragic event New York City mayor Eric Adams joined Bloomberg surveillance to talk about the rise of crime in his city Mayor I want to talk here about what we're going to do as governor hokusai about crime You know the numbers in Chicago You don't know the numbers here I would say that you are arguably the most qualified politician in the nation with your experience from bushwick years ago out to where you are now to talk about this First on cameras in amendments and civil liberties and all that London is covered with cameras after terror events Is this the tipping point where New York City one 5th of the cameras of London begins to monitor the public like London Well I think that I have been talking about this since the time I took office in January I sent my deputy mayor of public safety across the globe to find out how are we protecting human beings throughout the entire globe And we are not going to sit back and allow this technology to exist and not protect the people of the city and we're going to continue to explore it Mayor Adams you also had put more police forces into subway stations to protect the people of the city given that this is just one in a series of events that have unfolded over the last year during the pandemic even in subway stations acts of violence I know you've said you've given yourself an incomplete on crime in the first 100 days of your campaign is that incomplete looking more like a failure less like anything of semblance of a passing grade Oh we should be clear We've been here before as New Yorkers you know to talk about my mid 80s when I started in the transit police ironically And I'm aware of what it takes to turn around generational poverty generational crises that fight violence in our cities And then we can not ignore the over proliferation of guns No NYPD my administration has not failed We have removed 18 hundred guns up to streets of our cities since being elected One final question Mayor Adams you are expert at the study of games On January 4th you stated you showed up at a press conference and said we got to do something about gangs What are we going to do about the gangs that pull these kids into crime and violence At a zero a is called precision policing not just throwing out a wide net having a precision approach to those who are trigger pullers and violent gangs That is at the heart of our crises That's Eric Adams a democratic mayor of New York City Now for a view of New York crime on the other side of the aisle Bloomberg's Caroline Hyde and romaine bostick spoke with Republican congresswoman Nicole malliotakis I understand that many people are concerned and they are scared and the reality is is that we have a public safety issue in New York City that needs to be addressed On sadly throughout this last couple of years we have seen New York City a slip in the sense that crime in all categories whether it be a shootings or rapes or murder or robberies has increased and it is a result of policies that have been put in place But as I've always said we need to give the NYPD the tools and the resources they need to do their job We need to make sure that we're supportive of them And when they say that they need something in order to keep our city or our state safe we must listen to them They are the ones who are on the ground Representative I am curious I mean we talk a lot of course about a police resources and the need to either increase those resources or at least reallocate them to deal with some of the crime issues in our city There's also an issue of the infrastructure itself The MTA and the funding for the trains And the idea that that organization needs money or at least as requested more money in order to make the trains at least more efficient if not cleaner And of course safer And that is why I'm one of the 13 Republicans that supported the infrastructure Bill It was a bipartisan piece of legislation that will bring more transit funding for New York City New York stands to receive over a $100 billion and to hear that potentially the cameras in our transit system were not operating functionally That's an issue And that we need everyone to come together with the MTA the MTA police and the NYPD to make sure that our security systems are fully functional I've also been at the forefront of making sure that we deliver funding for our NYPD We just in the federal budget are able to secure funding for forensic equipment for protective equipment as well as for the canine unit which is incredibly important for anti terrorism and that is what I am focused on But one of the other things is many people the community have been pleading for police officers on our subways and that is something that I've been supportive of even though we have some elected officials that have said they don't want any cops on our subways So I think that's going to be a big debate that you're going to hear in the coming weeks about having more police on the street in our subways being able to patrol and keep New York City safe Representative of course many would say longer term course crime rates have come down significantly here in New York I want to address more of the also the funding that you said that's why you were one of those Republicans that voted for the infrastructure Bill for example We had the former mayor Bill de Blasio or in a little bit earlier talking about the emission zone and how in London that is something that's been embraced in a way to support financially the local infrastructure of what is known as the tube here at the MTA Is that something that you look for How would you look to fund What are the ways in which people could be allocating funds towards the MTA and mass transit I think the MTA is going to receive a significant cash flow from the infrastructure Bill to be able to upgrade One of the biggest things I've said we need to do is focus on upgrading our system to a communication based train control This is what they use in London in Paris and Copenhagen And I've been calling for this for quite some time Even when I ran for mayor myself in 2017 That's New York congresswoman Nicole malliotakis and coming up as COVID number surge around the world We get an update on.

Joe Biden: Second Amendment Rights Were Never Meant to Be Absolute

"President Biden promoting his plan for cracking down on crime in major cities. He visited New York City yesterday he talked about the so called ghost guns and other measures that he believes would be efficient, and getting crime off the streets. In a series of speeches, Biden as well as mayor Adams, governor hackel, they praised a federal government's new initiatives to crack down on these so called illegal ghost guns. And really attack the firearm industry in general. In cut number two, the president lays out part of his plan. Making sure that people who are not allowed to have a gun don't get the gun in the first place. And again, for any of the press any of the press let's see. This doesn't violate anybody's Second Amendment right. There's no violation of the Second Amendment right. We talk like there's no amendment that's absolute. When the amendment was passed, it didn't say anybody can own a gun in any kind of gun and any kind of weapon. You couldn't buy a cannon and when this amendment was passed. And so no reason why should be able to buy certain assault weapons. But that's another issue. So what does the Second Amendment mean? Does it mean that there are certain types of guns that we can on certain types of guns that we can on? That seems to be the interpretation of Joe Biden.

"And Eric Adams, he's right along. He goes right along with it all. He hasn't taken on a challenge this whack job prosecutor or district attorney. They've got in New York now. But he did back pedal on a bizarre promotion he gave his brother. He had given his brother who was, I think the assistant director of parking at Virginia Commonwealth university, nothing that is anything wrong with being the assistant director of parking, but I'm not sure you should become a deputy NYPD commissioner. Well, it turns out mer Adams has now already demoted his brother after the pushback, city officials confirmed moments ago that mayor Adams little brother is now going to be the executive director of mayoral security. That's a number of notches lower in rank from his previously. Designated title. He's still going to do pretty well. He's going to get a salary of $210,000 a year. The retired NYPD sergeant, but that's 30,000 less from what he would be getting his deputy police commissioner. So I guess even Eric Adams saw the handwriting on the wall

But either way, the next administration is going to be held to a benchmark of 20 new bustling miles in the first year and then 30 miles in each succeeding year for a total of a 150 miles in the first 5 years and assuming atoms is reelected. It's all going to be atoms for those 150 miles. There's a lot that can be done. And so we're going to start to see the needle move if we can get those projects done in full and on time. And successfully enforce them. Because that's the other piece of it is a culture change, a structure of enforcement and incentives to prevent bus lanes from being blocked. Often by official vehicles, often by NYPD patrol cars, and I think that we need to look at innovative solutions like incentives to keep patrol cars out of bus lanes. If you do a good job and never drive in a bus lane, there's a vacation day for you or something else like that. But we need to look at that because we need to keep us lanes clear for them to work well. Interesting. And so all right, Ben fried the transistor right after the election put out this plan, this agenda for the next mayor, Eric Adams. You know, we kind of knew that he was very likely to be the next mayor as of winning the primary, which was officially declared in July. But a bus agenda for New York City mayor Eric Adams, what are the biggest pieces of that and where has Adams either said he's on board or not on board or not made his position clear at this point? I think the first big thing we're going to look for is to mayor Adams of points as transportation commissioner. If he goes with someone who has experience in the field, who has a track record of pulling off ambitious transit priority projects, that's going to be an excellent sign for the next four to 8 years. If he goes with someone who's more of a political appointee, patronage pick, that's not going to vote very well. So that's very early on. It matters. So you put in that position and the confidence the mayor gives to that person to make change happen on the streets. And then, you know, I think, as Danny said, we want to see more bus lanes. We want to see better bus lanes. And we want to see the bustling network. Managed so that it actually performs the way it's supposed to. And that is going to entail programs that keep commercial vehicles out of bus lanes, government vehicles out of bus lanes, especially police and other placard holders. That is something that the current mayor never really got serious about and mayor ad is going to have to turn that around..
