"What possessed you to possibly go into politics? Comeback, after the Navy Ed, what possessed you to say, all right I'm gonNA throw my hat in the ring. I actually got out the military to get involved in politics I. Got An administrative separation Jenner Arnold conditions. So career in politics and it was because through the two thousand, sixteen election the voice of the younger people were not being hurt and everybody called this lazy millennials they caught lazy. They said, we will worthless. We couldn't do anything in mind you in a navy. An anti military in itself is is about four million millennials that wake up every day at four o'clock. In the morning, we do more between four and eight. The most people do all day and so whenever we will bring our issue to table, they'll say. Wait or is not your turn yet or we're GONNA, take care of it for you but our voice was never heard so I wouldn't voice to be heard. So I got out the military hop in politics I actually started off as a presidential candidate and You know after I learned a lot because you know you can't get involved in politics in the military. I was sleeping outside the lighthouse renters pilots. I was going to her office every other day trying to get help I feel the job applications, internships, barter flowers, and I was met with silence and that really made me set because a majority of the people who live on the streets are homeless veterans and sixty percent of them are black and so you have this lady who says, well, I'm pro black this pro black that Faisal blind people all of this stuff and here I am young black man and you're not fighting me we have forty four thousand homeless people in the street sixty percent of them are are black Veg, not fight it for those people. So which which black people are fighting for you know and so she has this she got her she got to go. Yeah. So why is it? You know I'm in La as well and why is it do you think that people in l. a. and Really California as a whole but I think l. a. and San Francisco specifically seem unable to connect the dots between always voting in Democrats and things always getting worse they seem to not be able to realize, oh, we keep doing the same thing and things go the wrong direction..

So what you're saying is That these rallies where the president is and the people are not wearing mask, and they're not socially distinct ing themselves. The 6 FT. 2020 State of the Union Address

"And welcome to live coverage of president trump state of the union address I'm Evan handing along with White House correspondent Bob Constantini and Capitol Hill correspondent Linda Kenya and Bob this is an address being given by an impeach president expected to be acquitted tomorrow he's heading into an election he faces a sharply divided electorate and Congress and apparently trump made some surprising remarks to news people a private lunch this afternoon any indication as to how Donald Trump is going to address some of the issues before him tonight well certainly of what we're going to have according to the excerpts from the White House that have been released the president will open up with comments about what he's calling the great American comeback Evan and shattering the mentality of decline Phil takes waves that president Obama with us some statistics talk up trade agreements fossil fuel energy production and spending over two trillion dollars on the military there will be a tax on socialism sort of a repeat of what we heard from last year more talk of wall building on the border with Mexico and taking action against terrorism in the Middle East and of course first and foremost the president will be playing up of the economy almost no question about that event the plane up to the hilt the exerts have no mention of impeachment and we may not hear that from the president we understand what Linda has for the mood in the chamber several Democrats say they're not even going to attend tonight's speech that's right they say that they do not wish to honor this president's through the house Democrats impeach and the Senate is the most likely as you say going to acquit tomorrow when they voted for clock eastern time there are ten right now and they include al green of Texas Alexander because you're Cortez of New York on a on a Presley Maxine waters Bennie Thompson Bobby rush Steve Cohen Earl Blumenauer Hank Johnson and Federico we Wilson some of these have personally tangled with president trump and have a have no love lost for the president the United States others also boycotted by the way previous state of the union addresses six house Democrats boycotted last year fourteen boycotted in two thousand eighteen so there's a fair number of people today who will not be there for this speech are any of the senators running for the democratic nomination going to miss this so they were up late last night and then took off straight to New Hampshire I have not heard any of them looking to miss tonight's speech but I guess we're about to find out I can see the president is standing in the doorway right now and he's about to walk into the chamber all rights the president is about to enter and we hear the gavel the president of the United States applause and now the handshake you the long trip to the podium where the president change hands in perhaps points to some of the crowd getting a few pats on the back First Lady Milan your truck is applauding she's sitting next to Rush Limbaugh he has been diagnosed with lung cancer president trump says he will give him the presidential medal of freedom within a few months but he is invited to be at tonight's address well yes you can be there tonight publicize Russell involved well the most prominent danced obviously sitting right next to the First Lady of it a deputy chief of the border patrol and the sister of a man found in field in California nine illegal alien will highlight the president's efforts to build more wall along the southern frontier a little and son of an Army fighter killed by a roadside bomb in your walk with the the White House in the technology for that bomb supplied the militants buy can seem silly money the Iranian general order this estimated by president trump Wally log in to your old Ellie Snyder from Kansas city will be with her mom to highlight her story of being born just be on twenty one with a station in living at the night of course to pro life voters we also have been told the Venezuelan opposition leader one why Joe is going to be there tonight and another of Venezuelan mayor

Breaking down the White House's quid pro quo argument

"And I want to keep talking about impeachment I want to bring in Marc Lauter many of you know marquees the trump campaign director strategic communication and former special assistant to the president mark thanks for joining us later Avenue and so you know the war for witnesses has begun to monopolize both sides what do you think we're gonna see moving forward when it comes to this impeachment trial and are we gonna see witnesses well it it doesn't look like it and I think of the fact of the matter is we've got to come to an understanding of what is that it does not matter who they may or may not call as witnesses it's not going to change the fundamental facts of this case that we were in the tree we read the transcript there was no quid pro quo the Ukrainians and made and there was no pressure the aid was released and there were no investigations announced and there is no witness that could be called it's going to change the fundamental facts in this case right and you know we we see that the president's defense team went up there they deliver their closing arguments which many feel you know really collapse the Democrats case for impeachment of course and a lot of people now are talking about the fact that policy agreements don't merit a grounds for impeachment and while this may be great for the president for the campaign when it comes to people going to the ballot box in November of twenty twenty what do you think the long term implications could be for our country and for the potential of impeachment turning into a partisan tool or game well it was ashes for our country long term never in the history of our country and we ever had a one party purely partisan impeachment and that's what this was despite the fact that in the nineties you had Democrats saying you couldn't have a partisan impeachment few even at Nancy Pelosi last spring saying you can't have a one party impeachment and yet here we are I think you know it's not only need to policy Adam Schiff I think you know someone and Louise joined the squad and they took this party right off the cliff and it is a dangerous precedent that they're sitting here and it will be even more dangerous if it gets to the point where any future president or this president can not have a robust discussion and even disagreements with members of his senior staff for with a national security adviser because they're afraid that they're going to get home before a hostile Congress from hostile party and have all of those disagreements expose it will put national security at risk regardless of what party future presidents may represent it isn't the Democrats argue that this is in the interest of national security markets that we keep hearing from them yeah it really was such a national security threat but they had to wait thirty days to even turn the impeachment articles over and they could not use the tools at hand I mean how much is there talking about complaining about witnesses and they didn't clean and these witnesses and they didn't want to avail themselves on the courts to decide on the president's right exactly the privilege of having these conversations which is something the president of both parties going back to the founding of our Republic had just ended Amy just shows you weren't for double standards the Democrats wouldn't have standards at all sure and you know the polls continue to show mark that Americans are broadly opposed impeachment while the support for the president continues to grow and so you know as the Democrats impeachment champ continues and and you know we're not quite at the end yeah but I think one of the things to note here maybe you can touch on this a little bit for listeners as the scrutiny of the bidens crop family business practices I think that's finally increasing to this you know may have had back fired more than the Democrats expected you know especially just days before we head into the Iowa caucus it really is backfiring and and for good reason I mean the American people you don't have to know all the fine details that you can understand when the sitting vice president of the United States he's leaning policy discussions and his son is getting paid by whether it's Ukraine hand or China and now we're coming out and we're finding that they were even more sweetheart deals with members of the Biden family involving his brother and and getting the land deals and contracts which she was not qualified to get there's been other members of the family is now just recently been exposed I'm also getting sweetheart deals and the American people get the realized state we wouldn't tolerate a city council person who's getting hit their family paint on the backside while they're making the official decision and we shouldn't we should expect the same thing that's wrong and my friend and the United States and someone who's running for president to get those same sweetheart deals and nine point on this you know Biden is in trouble when it actually had to come out and say well he now if we if he's nominated or if he wins we won't do that anymore course and you know when you we lucky that going back to impeachment and you know what how this is all kind of come out when it comes the bite and we see the multiple Democrats of course it in swing states coming forward saying they're undecided on the president's gonna name even come over and vote with Republicans Joe Manchin of West Virginia Christensen amount of Arizona children's of Alabama how do you think this is going to play out and you know give give our listeners a preview of what you think the next steps in the in the conclusion of this impeachment hearing and trial it's gonna be well I think there's no question that he will be exonerated by the Senate and again today and there's a very high likelihood just like in the house of representatives in the Senate you will have a bipartisan vote no I don't see any Republicans crossing over which means it is women entirely and engineered Democrat hoax that is being reviewed by bipartisan vote in both houses and house Republicans and Democrats saying no and so I think that will obviously Sir was a strong platform we seen the president's poll numbers going up the impeachment numbers going down and there is not a single person on this campaign with for president trump wanted this to go this way we'd rather talk about the issues the economy rising paychecks buses Democrats went down this path you can be assured that we're going to the fans and maximize it to the most that we can see and we're seeing it hundreds of thousands of people are crossing over into signing up to volunteer and Joan eight and you can look at that rally we just had the other night in New Jersey all places deep blue New Jersey most requested number of tickets ever for a presidential rally and when we look at the daily even further order of the people who were there were Democrats I mean that shows you this problem is bringing new people in the party it's one of those reasons why I think combined with the fact that you got a cell phone socialist and communist sympathizer in Bernie Sanders who's leading their ticket I think every state in the union in an alley in July with the exception possibly being the people's Republic of California right and you know when it when it comes to this impeachment what do you think the effect is going to be that has on the election were obviously seeing a lot of energy very far out from November for the president at these rallies which we covered on the first just a few days ago we think that Altman effects gonna be in and do you truly believe that the Democrats are only doing this because they know they will lose in November and we have American people of course very irritated with that because they see this and they see the Russian collusion house the same way this is time and taxpayer money that's been wasted with no resolve or direct benefit to the American people well I think we may be legal or seeing it and I think that's one of the reasons why the president's supporters rising to the highest levels we've seen since he's taken office in multiple goals and the Democrats know that they're in trouble and yet you have to wonder because you got crazy Maxine waters and others out there who are saying we're not we're going to impeach him again I mean they're already talking about going down this path no one they're going to lose this impeachment and openly talking about impeaching him again I mean this is going to be a never ending cycle they want him impeached from the day he was elected and they're not going to stop until the American people remove them from power in the house of representatives and also send this president back to the White House before we close out mark you know when I ask you a question really talking a little bit later in the show about the chance of a brokered convention for the Democrats obviously you look at the end who's on the ballot for them these primaries and going at Iowa caucus it doesn't seem like any of these candidates could beat president trump do they recognize that you think they're going to go to a broker convention is there even anybody out there that that could even you know compete in November against this president I mean when we see the economic numbers and we see the promises made promises kept from twenty fifteen twenty sixteen all the way till now hundreds of promises that have been kept you think there's anybody out there and could the Democrats even even try to post make that this summer what a looks more and more likely that they might because you do you do and Bernie Sanders is leading in the polls and now you're seeing a lot of the DNC and the mainstream Democrats coming out against him because they're afraid it's almost like twenty sixteen again we're trying to gang up and keep him from getting the nomination but they can't agree on who should get the nomination and it's very possible that they could go into a brokered convention but regardless we we really don't care which one of them comes out on their nominating process they're all gonna have endorsed such radical policies as taking away people's private health insurance a lemonade in the energy independence that our country has now achieved and that her drive up people's agility bills are talking about eliminating millions of people's jobs and just telling them well you can learn to code I mean that's not how we work in America so it will be fairly easy for us to take on whichever one of those crazies actually comes out of their nominations and were fully prepared to together battle a IBM mark Kleiner thank you so much for joining

"Groups bribery extortion and bribery drive an ally that's a that's bribery first full as the founders understood bribery it was not as we understand it in the law today it was much broader it connoted the breach of the public trust in a way where you're offering official acts for some personal or political reasons not in the nation's interest all Adam Schiff tells us that what you think is bribery isn't really bribery and what the law says is bribery is it really bribery sexually Adam shifts version of bribery this is the life of twenty nineteen least number nine joining us now on the line got congressman lease Elden in Congress but I know I'm gonna ask you just a moment about these terrible tax in New York City but just for a moment can can you reflect you were one of the guys down there doing the tough work taken the depositions wading through the evidence did you ever hear any witnesses mentioned bribery no not at all as a matter of fact I heard witnesses refuting what would be the elements of bribery went right out of the gate they bring in former special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Voelker who's telling us that president so if you didn't know that there is a hold on aid until was reading political on August twenty nine that the aid gets very shortly thereafter in Ukraine and have to do anything in order to get the Aprilia so elements were actually disproven it would not only did not come up but if you actually read the transcripts and listen to the open hearings none of these people had any evidence to support it down should point you to ignore all the evidence that actually supports the president's position that there is no bribery or extortion or control well so you're down there listening to the depositions I've read all of from thousands of pages the word bribery is only mentioned in the context of bear Reese mine the bidens in their nefarious activities never mentioned as it relates to the president but yet there was this there was this like whole week where we heard nothing but bribery from the Democrats a we've seen reporting that that's a consequence of their pollsters and pundits who told them that bribery would sell better to the American people even though they had no evidence and so if you're just a regular American out there doing your job raising your family you're trying to keep up with all this nonsense in Washington what are you to make of the fact that Democrats made a claim and then couldn't evidence it and now we still remain an impeachment limbo I think that this is a a warning shot also just how important next November's election is these are people who are not responsible with their travel when you get get when they got double this past January when dance you close to become speaker gunship becomes juror jury dollar becomes Jr and Maxine waters becomes a chair they'll get the devils in their minds their instincts the first thing that they want to do with them is beat someone over the head with it they want scalps they want to go after the president they want to resist oppose impeaching obstruct everything and anything what should the American people make of what they're doing right now is that we should feel empowered understanding of just how important is that that you all the listeners who are out there he control of our Republic next November with their vote to reelect Donald Trump to another four year term and to refuse gavel that the hands of these people who just want to be folks over the head with it instead of working with colleagues on the other side of the aisle to work with the president

Oh it's a racket. I can't even. I'm trying to think of which was the dumbest but you know they spend twenty out. You're allowed twenty hours a week of practice when you're there another twenty hours of volunteer work and now you're forty plus classes studying in. You know you signed this piece of paper saying Oh spent twenty hours practicing and do they send it to but for those things but the minute they wanna find something like the IRS. They'll find some. Oh absolutely yes better yes better believe it What one Olympic sport were you involved in baseball baseball? And then they try. Yeah try to grab every sport into the Football Nado and it just does not work. I me yes in the amount of games that you experienced between two sports. You know it'd be transferred down a level you can play me lazy transfer of the level. You gotta sit one ear. You gotTa sit if it's an injury it's right that's right for the call. Thanks Prague document if you document your time as a redshirt freshman if they if they if you're a freshman and they don't read if you haven't played for more than I it's four or five games than they can come back and redshirt you call that a redshirt season right that gives you another year of eligibility or if you were sick I mean they. That's how that's that's how my boy ended up getting an extra year because he they they read showed them because they they had documented. They redshirt because he was sick. MHM because he came into camp of sick that counted as no probably give you an extra year. Yeah I and there seems to be no no rhyme or reason to their decision Byu had three transfers to their basketball team this year one of them came from Arizona to came from another Utah School and they all applied for an exemption on the transfer rule. So that could play this year. Here is usually you have to sit out a year when you transfer if you transferred to a D. One school from from A. D. Ones right anyway one of them gets the exemption or at the other two. Don't no explanation on. Why one of them got it? The other two didn't none. It's just just arbitrary. No explanation no knowing so why did it right and you just never know. It's weird weird and the rules are always so arbitrary and it's just like they're William more their mood on any particular day you don't. It's nothing you can count on on. Yeah it's just a corrupt organization bent on power and using Missouri as an example the being in the SEC now the head of the SEC is on the board so because they we go back to them self reporting they self reported the head of the SEC is on the board and he says as well you know what. I'm going to sit out because it doesn't look right. You know that I'm going to be voting on this. It's still good no right. Why did you sit go? Sit yourself out what you're there for right. The deck is stacked against you so you might as well right Triple eight nine hundred thirty. Three ninety three. Ah David in Georgia. Hi you're on the blaze. Yeah I was seeing crazy anti maxine. Their mom I'm hoping that when the Republicans Republicans take the house next year that they launch all sorts of ethics investigations and And investigations impeachment style against all these wacko Democrats including shift were pushing these false narratives and put as much of a bad label on them as possible. Absolutely and I I hope I I mean from your mouth to God's ears I hope the Republicans do take the house next year lease. Let that happen Thanks David appreciate it. And if they do would would they do the investigations. I have no confidence in Republican or that you know even if they get back both both houses of Congress and keep the presidency do you. We have any firm belief that they're going to do any of the things we'd want them to do. There's no indication they would because they never do they never do. They certainly haven't we've saw we've seen examples of that where they had everything and nothing I mean they could have gotten healthcare taking care of that's completely they know they didn't I mean we had. We had everything right. We had yeah we had the house we had the Senate bad. The presidency presidency completely wiped out. It's gone we're back to back. Obamacare has just gone right. No no not right now. Got Nothing done on. Immigration Wall built didn't get health care done none of that stuff so there's actual evidence that it doesn't work. Yes yes there's a lot of actual evidence that it doesn't work it really is. That was that was frustrating time. Oh man very frustrating time. I don't know if you know. Have they ever learned their lesson. I don't know I doubt it. I'd I'd love to think so but I I have no confidence in the Republicans Bill. Meanwhile did you see that They're making a movie about Griffin Berg. She's a subject. Good upcoming movie called Greta creatively. I don't know where they came up with following her around a documentary. Yes what it is. It's an actual documentary. Yes it's not going to be based on a true story. It's an actual documentary off on her life. I I do I want to see that me to Premiere on Hulu in Twenty Twenty So Greta when she was a fifteen year year old Swede. She started at school strike for the climate her question for adults. If you don't care about my future on earth why should i. I care about my future in school. Well frankly I don't Greta. So I mean. Why do I care about whether she cares about our future in school? I don't care that's between her parents not me. Why what I? What a stupid question for nobody answers that way do Sudha void this building to take a y? Yes excited states everywhere. This building would go so hello everybody else's giving her all this difference like we have to you know here. We have a sixteen year old autistic sixteen year old that we're supposed posted breakdown and follow down a road of economic ruin right right. Yes for the planet because she's been so horribly horribly indoctrinated by irresponsible sick adults in her life. Were supposed to all bowed down Greta now and all the the difference in the world nope the planet. Why should I care about my school? I don't I don't don't care one iota about whether you go to school or not. Frankly the only reason I want you to go back to school and so they just stopped the rest. Is She ate eight. I just can't take it. I mean that's so ridiculous and we're just supposed to fall in line and be really rev reverential intial concerning Greta. It will be kind of fascinating. I hesitate Snack about this but it would be kinda fascinating if they're going to actually give us some You know unfettered insight behind Greta so that maybe we actually get an idea of how How will difficult time? She's struggling with in her life. And I don't know that we see that I think we're GonNa just see the struggle that she has because of the planet right And instead of saying ooh Greta just go home baby Little thirty minutes in. You're like just go back home. Yeah no it's it's going to be one sided. I mean you know that that all the carrying individuals in her life that are making sure she's able to show up all of these pro rice and you're gonNA have the footage of her sitting on the train with all their luggage. I'll be because she had actual first class ticket hotel bog me. But I sense that I'm just talking about shoot. She was forced to sit at the back of the train with all her luggage right. Because because because heaven forbid climate because climate right Y- because trains climate live the train. People big train rain rain so mean life on the train. Age Man. Don't even mess with big. Train is three the railroad man to mess with big railroad. You know what Europe is. Welcome to big railroad. You just keep taking trains wherever you go. And they do and and we'll fly and they're they're a little bit quicker and a little bit more refreshed yet. We still pay for all the trains across the country to a UH we still. We're still foot the bill for which is stupid but true. Triple eight nine hundred thirty three ninety three all right we all know how a VP and protect your privacy and security online ripe helpful. "Today on the daily charge twitter down in the dumps reporting revenue stall in the third quarter and sucks out of luck facebook founder and world renowned punching bag go back to Kevin you know attention to them and I think especially because facebook being facebook there's so M- so many more is on this there's a lot of concern about getting this right to make sure people don't certainty of libra actually coming out as far less whether that is or isn't going to happen it's hard to say it's expected to come out sometime in the first half of next year think initially as maybe a year ago two years ago there would be these ISOS that would just come out with very little regulatory scrutiny very little automatically unscathed at all like the first time around but at the same time I mean he just got walloped over was there money to make sure that this doesn't destabilize global monetary policy so I would say especially after the hearing yesterday the there's still a little bit of time to figure that out anyway next more people are on twitter but the social network badly missed Wall Street's revenue expectation fix our grilling on Capitol Hill yesterday with lawmakers taking the billionaire CEO to task for a slew of issues including data breaches misleading by just going after him not only over libra but on a variety of different topics so he got hit from all sides I think ultimately I watched the entire six hours thing there isn't anything really weighing over him specific to the hearing I think if anything it really does suggest like for antitrust concerns or some other regular gle ads and its new libra crypto currency okay so this was a lot to get through guys by ultimately what were your impressions soon they seemed much better prepared questions seem to be far more sophisticated but at the same time I would give credit for not appearing overly defense live every single time he was interrupted he just kind of let them take their time back and just lay into him so again it was a hearing it's not like this was a criminal case or any did you think Zack did okay did he mostly survive he'd he took a beating definitely took a beating Tori issues at least the house is taking a posture that like hey we're not going to be very friendly to you we're gonNA take a much more aggressive approach well you've been covering cryptocurrency for a while the most viral moment was like the him responding to Orrin Hatch with senator we run ads in so I think which were so pulled out she's a lot of negative publicity do you think this survives or do you think facebook pulls out in sort of like let's go off on its own that's a great question ends as it seems advertisers are avoiding the site every single time we bring up twitter on this show I feel like it's bad news and that's kind of a bad story for facebook twitter pulled at the congressman right for not knowing their stuff and so this time around they they boned up on it they they did their homework and maxine waters it has definitely talked a lot about trying to demystify twitter and a lot of ways like when you're adding people at the very beginning of tweet you have to put a period at the beginning these are really all sorts of things so whether this is going to result in anything the other question now is it just a hearing or is it going to sort of action I remember the last time we'll curious like to get your take on this like libra is lieber dead or is it is it still going to be a thing because a lot of major supporters like visa MasterCard pay pal for the daily charge. "Revenue to your country it's going to give you some money and it's probably going to ruin your country and give you a terrible governor and that happens in little countries it happens in US states it happens in big countries and that corrosive effect of oil and gas industry particular on governance is something that we're really reaping the whirlwind from right now when it comes to Russia I think it's going to be a really big deal when it comes to the change that we're going to have from climate change all of this sort of spectrum between Equatorial Guinea one of my obsessions as the daughter of Congolese geologists Guinea so I think he wrote this book just for me the only here's what we think of as the portable Third World actually hate that term but yeah you know the part of the world where oil is all you've got deaf and so your government twists and turns itself in you dictatorial hell in order to please American oil companies and European Companies Matt and then on the other end is the Americas of the world that's able to as you said maybe some state blind up in that situation but governance wise we set we have a stable government own country and in the middle is Russia and what's fascinating about the that you write about Russia is that they have the same resource curse in this dependence on oil as their resource and they're in the struggle between not wanting the West to control them wanting to control themselves and then the things they've got to do in order to keep control the things is willing to do that's right and I think that that is for me why I ended up writing the book because as you know I'm sort of obsessed with Russia's attack in two thousand sixteen and I was trying to think about it from Russia's perspective like why did they throw that wild pitch at us that's a really really high stakes crazy thing to have tried to do why did they do that why did they throw the wild pitches that they've thrown all over the world why did they invaded Ukraine countries don't send their military take pieces of other countries in Europe anymore why is Russia doing this stuff that we're not seeing any other country like them doing well in part it's because they've decided to become a petro state didn't have to do it they could have built a diversified economy hooton decided that he wanted royal and grab gas to basically everything both because it produces all of this revenue which creates the trap in countries all over the world but also because he realized that oil and gas was a really excellent weapon that Russia might post Soviet Union not have a great military it might not have a lot of other things that could use to control and coerce countries that used to be in its orbit but they can turn the lights off right and they can threaten not only a former Soviet states but even western Europe in terms of turning the lights off and he realized that he could control if he personally bottom you're Putin could control the oil and gas racist of this country he could use it as a monkey wrench to threaten other countries with anywhere in the world and that was too tempting for him to give up because that's the kind of guy he is and so- Russia's in this weird position that were they have been basically trying to make themselves into an energy superpower but Putin wants to run this control those companies himself so he's got his thoughts eggs in henchmen running those things Russian oil and gas companies are terrible yeah and it turns out kind of all the easy oil and gas in Russia is already pumped yeah and they're going to need to use Western oil companies to be able to get the rest of their oil and gas out of the ground God forbid Western oil companies are very help very happy to help them do that but with sanctions against Russia for their behavior they can't tap western oil and gas expertise to do that that makes sanctions and existential gambit for them that makes something as wild as in our elections worth it well what's interesting is it made it worth it yes but on the other hand attack in Crimea then gets the sanctions to kick in and said it stops them from being able to do business in their main extractive and the thing that is controlled their economy yeah and so one does wonder if all these machinations that we're seeing in our president doing everything possible to try to get Russia right to give them a clean bill of health is about allowing them to do business again he did rex tillerson nerve is a great zero right if that is the answer because no one understands why donald trump is so obsessed with getting Russia writing again fifth is it as simple as that well it is if you think about it from Russia's perspective that's the conclusion that I came to like you know there may be a million different reasons why Donald trump looks into Vladimir Putin's eyes gets off at heart I mean there's a lot of things about Putin I can imagine a guy like Donald trump my love but in terms of what trump has done four Putin and what trump has tried to conceal in terms of what he's doing for Putin during the campaign all of those you know secret peace deal talks all of those communications they tried to keep secret and that only were outed by federal investigators relied about I mean during the campaign during the transition immediately upon trumpet heading to Washington even what's going on right now on the impeachment stuff all of those things the thing they have in common is that they all go toward Russia being freed from sanctions and both in terms of their invasion of Ukraine and they're taking Crimea but also in terms of the messing with our election trump is trying to do all of that to free Russia from the sanctions Russia needs to be freed from those sanctions specifically because it needs access to Western oil technology to drill what is under their sees and what is under their land which is their only economic asset and if they don't have that WHO has no other plan he could build a diversified I mean it's a tragedy Russia's Russia's incredibly incredibly resourceful tree with incredible historical achievement in terms of culture and science technology and innovation and all of this stuff and instead there this backward petro state with an economy modern Italy yeah that's what Putin did and Putin needs to keep fueling this oil and gas economy in order to keep himself in position he'll do anything I want it's to the earth now oil companies are willing to perpetrate and belies in the science you know the magical atom our friend the atom compare everything that mentality in our oil and gas industries feels like it's also killing US telling us in terms of the environment in terms of future are we in the United States now I think that the reason having oil and gas money even when there's a ton of oil and gas money having that the base feerick economy is always a bad idea.

"There Rosa Brooks thank you very much for being here to Tasha we'll see you back a little later in the show senator and presidential candidate Cory Booker joins me next to respond to this morning's breaking news for an joy after the Break Hi it's Katy Tur WanNa keep up with MSNBC while you're on the go subscribe to the MSNBC daily newsletter you'll get the best of what you've missed during this unprecedented era of news text MSNBC to six eight six six to subscribe breath senator what does happen in the Senate if the house does get get through with this inquiry and decide that they are going to impeach president trump under the Senate rules wired to take it up if the house does go down that path and we'll follow the Senate ruled it's a Senate rule related to impeachment that would take sixty seven It's to change so I would have no choice but to take it up how long you're on it is a whole different matter but I would have no choice but to take it up he's done a Senate rule on impeachment on Monday Mitch McConnell admitted he'll have to follow the rules if the House votes to impeach Donald Trump but in his new campaign ad on facebook the Senate majority leader makes it clear that trump is safe as long as McConnell is an office which is a lifeline mom finally convincing they surprised them all you know your constitution sauce is under Senate majority the majority leader joining me now to discuss is senator and Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker senator thanks for being on the show Jonah's good to be with you this morning so we've been talking about this one particular thing all morning it's the interview of Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin on meet the press with moderator Chuck Todd and WanNa play it again and then get your reaction on the other side take a listen I have my third letter into the inspector general tells the senator asking to just confirm just confirm are you investigating those leaks that Peter Struck talked about senator no idea that's that's set up on this point why Fox News conspiracy propaganda stuff is popping up on no I D I Bet I've no cd in that is senator this lying exactly president trump is upset why his supporters were upset news media good meeting the Johnson Johnson please answer the question that I asked you instead of trying to make Donald Trump feel better here that you're not criticize it not a simple question vice may juice what made you wince what I'm asking a simple question about you clearly were upset that somehow there was an indication that was being frozen because the president wanted the investigation why did you because I didn't want those connected and I was supporting the eight as as Senator Murphy as everybody went to that initial inauguration but here's the salient point of why came forward when I asked the president about that he completely denied it he adamantly denied it he really angrily denied he said I'd never do that so that that is the piece of the puzzle I'm here to report today Senator Booker Your Reaction and to Senator Johnson what he said to chuck todd look everybody has got to have a line we is your line that this president will cross the will make you not be a partisan but a Patriot this is a president that clearly to me now has used his office for his own personal gain in that more information that comes out more whistle blowers come forward more facts come forward where is your ally and every Republicans going to have to ask themselves because this story is evolving we're seeing more and more atrocious offensive deeply violative behavior by this president of his oath to uphold the constitution so I think that there's going to be a lot of discomfort for many of my Republican colleagues it's the truth continues come out well I hear what you're saying in terms of discomfort but we've we have seen and read and listened and watched to a lot of things that under normal mm stances should have everyone in sort of fits and spasms of because of the discomfort the senator former Senator Jeff Flake recently said that if the if the Senate had to vote by secret ballot thirty-five Republican senators would vote to convict the president remove him Office on Friday the Wall Street Journal has had the story about Senator Johnson the confronting president trump about the holdup of aid to Ukraine for personal political gain and then we see him come on meet the press and do a complete absorb pod person conversion spouting off conspiracy theories is there you say where is the line I'm wondering the fact that there is no lie and and if Mitch Mitch McConnell is out there saying that you know as long as I'm Senate majority leader President Trump will stay in office are we in a city Waesche in here as Chuck Todd said on his meet the press daily earlier in the week where we are in a national emergency we clearly aw in a crisis in our nation when you have people like Mitch McConnell and others saying that they're partisanship is going to rule on this and not their lawyer not to this nation this president on its face has betrayed his country by putting his interests ahead of national security interests and was doing things that you're right Senator Johnson and others I served with him on the Foreign Relations Committee were up in arms about that these resources were not getting to the Ukraine when we've been there we've you did that country and have seen the urgent crisis they're facing the life or death attacks that the Russians are are are perpetrating and so for the president to hold that up it's outrageous and so again this is all coming to ahead we're going to see whether people evidence profiles in courage and put their country first or they're gonNA fall into partisan ranks and at the end of the day begin to eviscerate very laws and ideals of our country begin to erode values and the morals that have driven this nation that we have laws and that no one is above those laws that we have norms of behavior that can I shouldn't call norms of behavior just ultimately presented serve the country's interests that office is not there's that office belongs to the people in this invite every thing he said in his own words has violated those ideals those rules has violated that oath of office so he are you put forward this is senator let me get your reaction to the big news breaking news today and that is the revelation that second whistle blower has has come forward reaction to that my reaction is what I've said from the very beginning this is why the process is important because we saw from the first whistle blower complaint a tremendous amount of evidence that there were moulting other people involved and therefore implicated and I- confident others will come forward and we'll tell the truth that are not willing to blindly follow this president into potentially illegal activity and so there's another whistle blower showing their patriotism showing their duty and telling the truth as they know it there will likely be more and we'll continue this investigation eighteen us I think to paint a pretty damning picture of a president who's portrayed his office Senator Marco Rubio recently said that he the president was joking when he called on China to investigate Vice President Biden if memory serves and also now we're getting news that Senator Roy Blunt also said that you know that the president was joking we shouldn't take him seriously the president was joking to your mind was the president joking no I look I don't know if this is some of my republican colleagues going through many stages of grief that they know that this in many ways could be the end of this presidency and now they're in that stage of denial this is a president who stood before the can people like he did during the campaign when he invited the Russians to illegally Hack Hillary Clinton's servers he's now standing yet again calling for foreign interference in our elections what standard he's setting here literally is going to erode vary the foundations of our democracy this idea that foreign countries it's been warned about by past presidents that foreign countries should begin to further engage and involve themselves in our elections with this president is doing is a portrayal of that office of the ideals of this country that our democracy Chris by inviting foreign powers to begin to medal and undermine our democracy is a very serious thing and that is oughta joke senator if the house votes out articles of impeachment and trial is then held in the Senate you will be you will be there as part of the quote unquote jury because you would have to then vote what question would most want to ask the president or at least the president's lawyers in a trial look I'm I'm very much looking four to the evidence coming out right now we have implications for the Department of Justice and the Attorney General implications that the State Department was playing roles in this from the ambassador was recalled all up to the secretary of State himself has been implicated there are many witnesses to what I believe is this savior that was a violation of his office an impeachable offense so I think that the American public everyone should be wanting the truth to come out the public deserves the truth and everyone should be asking I don't care what party you belong to is what are the lines that this president has to cross because you have a line you got you can't think that this president no matter what he does is right because we shift from being a democracy to a dictatorship and it's not who we are this time it calls for a serious sobered review of the facts and the evidence not with any kind of partisan glee or despair on either side we now in this process must be patriots evaluating the evidence and come into the conclusions because this is not just about this moment in time this has implications that are far reaching about what our democracy is going to be going forward and the president is allowed to engage in this kind of behavior then we will begin to see the unraveling of this democracy with presidents in that office to conduct themselves in ways or not the leader of the free world the protector of democracy but more like a dictator and the people who follow him blindly no matter what he can do nothing wrong they are implicated in complicit in that undermining of our democratic ideals is senator real quickly at your your coming to us from from Iowa I believe Hiawatha Iowa is anyone talking about about any of this on the campaign trail look I I think that this is not the main shoe people are talking about right now Americans are struggling out here whether it's a cost to their prescription drugs or the safety of their kids at school and and I swore an oath they'll hold and defend the constitution I need to do that but right now look we will beat Donald Trump I will be donald trump this is a weak president was continuing to show his inability to solve the problems with the people and that's what I'm talking about on the campaign trail most are the challenges we face in our democracy and the lives of everyday Americans and how we could clearly be a nation that better keells and comes together and pursue our common purpose as a nation again Senator Cory Booker from my home state of New Jersey thank you very much for your time thanks for meeting that Your Jersey.

I think first the all we have a number of things that we have to do fortunately we now have almost all of the members of the caucus on board. That's extremely extremely important and you know Nancy Pelosi the leader flipped and she's providing the leadership on moving toward this impeachment. We have six committees that have been involved in investigations. We will continue to do our work and we will be working together to try and determine the articles of impeachment meanwhile we think it is very important for us to get certain kinds of input about what people feel about the articles but what emerging is this latest shock this latest scandal candle about the president and his attempting to leverage the power of the office of the presidency to get dirt on Biden from the president of the Ukraine is at the top of the agenda. let me move for because. I do want to talk about Ukraine but you were just talking a moment ago about Speaker Pelosi yes what changed because she I just. I interviewed her earlier in in September and she. I didn't ask her about impeachment but it was. It's pretty clear that she was not going down that route and now here we are was there something in particular that change i. I don't know if it was one thing but I do know you know a growing number of members of her house we're coming onboard each day and I think that that had a lot to do with it and of course the president in his own way continued to make outrageous statements leading into this latest scandal and I think all of that had something to do with Nancy Pelosi saying we cannot avoid the word anymore that we have to really move forward to talk about impeachment will not let let's talk about Ukraine because I do think that unlike the the Russia Investigation S. Gatien which was complex and very hard for people to follow or even understand what we're talking about with Ukraine is so it's it's easy what what is it about the Ukraine story that made moving. MP moving on impeachment easier if not a no brainer for your colleagues one of the things that happened happen was the president himself said that he had had the conversation with the president of Ukraine and it's easy to understand stand when you look at this particular incident hearing him and Juliana talk about the back that they were interacting with the president and of Ukraine and others it seems to understand when you say he appeared to be leveraging the power of the presidency you and holding out on point pairs that was due to go to the Ukraine in exchange for a commitment from the president that he would work with him on that investigation and so people get that and don't forget he's done enough now for people to kind of understand understand who this character is even though they may not have come out for him impeachment the stories about him his lies his undermining people basically a man of flawed character who is capable of these kinds of things. It was absolutely believable. Now uh-huh you mentioned Mayor Giuliani former mayor of New York who is the president's personal lawyer. He's not he's not. A federal. Employee is not in employee of the of the executive branch. How unusual is it that someone who's not on the executive staff playing such a central role like this is that is that illegal or just under traditional it is not illegal. Go Not because it has not been legally put together by the Congress had the United States in terms of a public policy. The constitution ever envisioned anything like this. You know what I'm saying and you can't envision everything but who would have thought that a president president of the United States would use his personal lawyer disregard all of his cabinet all of his staff this regard all of his foreign adviser and cut deals sales and basically this is what he did using Giuliani as his spokesperson to interact with the president of Ukraine and the president of the acquaintance grains advisors and so yes this is highly unusual and again the constitution never envision anything like this as a matter of fact I see room for a whole new body of law that must be created to build the gaps and loopholes that this president has opened up using his the presidential power. Have you had a chance to read the whistleblowers complaint we did. How shocked were you well. I may not have been as shocked as others because I had identified this flawed character along time ago as being capable of doing almost anything and when I looked at his pass and the way that he cheated folks contractors who had worked for him the way that he denied African Americans access assessed to rentals that he and his father own the way they had up bake university where he took money from unsuspecting people that wanted to become developers all all of this. You know I understood exactly who he was. I wasn't shock as a matter of fact I may have been more saddened than anything else sadden because because sadden because we had come to a point in America where we had the president the leader leader of our country who was capable of doing what was now made known to all of us because of the facts that emerge urge about his attempts to get dirt on his opponent his political opponents and use his personal lawyer and and bombed the attorney general would already demonstrated you do anything and so I was sat in that. We're in a point in time where we have to deal with the statis- has really happened that this. This has really happened with the president. I'm talking about the president well. That's why I was asking if you were surprised because it's one thing to know his character and in all of these things I two in that regard was not surprised yes but when you view when you read the whistle blowers complaint with the eye of of knowing that lead us to character this is the president of the United States doing this IRA match. What's shocking to I remember saying Whoa. Wow I remember saying that I was reading it with them with Ricky here I remember Oh my goodness you know because it hits you right right in the face that the words were there that this is what had happened. This is where it's been done any can't even deny they can try and spin in it any way that they want but they cannot deny that he's already admitted that he had the conversation and that he had asked about Biden it ask risk about creating an investigation I mean so it's on the record not only from him but from all of the others who heard this or experienced experienced him in a number of actions that he's taken that they thought were dangerous and urgent so you're the chair of the Financial Services Committee which is one of the six committees that have been looking into one of the six impeachment committees as the speaker announced when she she said there's an impeachment inquiry talk about the work you've been doing on financial services with regard to well is it. I call it impeachment Gatien or investigations. We have been involved in investigations. They were not considered exactly exactly impeachment investigations. We've formalized that inquiry now so that that really is what it is because you've been looking at. You've been trying to get records from Deutsche Bank. Thank yes I my staff and I identified a relationship with deutchebanks early on. We knew a lot of things first of all. We knew that they were the only bank in the country that would lend him money out. We also knew that Deutsche Bank had a reputation as a money laundering bank. We also know that in addition to the president they had loan money to other members of the family we also knew that the president had sued Gotcha Watch your bank and in spite of the suit they stale loaned him money and when we took a look at the fact that again that he'd been loan money from Deutsche Bank and they were money laundering entre bank and there were these relationships we said let's take a look and we started to take a look and that's what we're doing and you know we've subpoenaed the records from Deutsche Bank. His lawyers are fighting US mightily and because they potus had took us a long time to get into court for the judge edge to determine whether or not they had to comply with a subpoena and we did get that ruling on that and then the next thing was preparation a hearing on the merits of the case and of course between the judges vacations and other things it was been delayed and so now we're waiting on a final decision from the judges about several things and and so when you say the records and several things is one of them about the president's president's tax returns us because we we do know that there are some tax return information indoor two banks of some of the members members of the trump family and so so you're you're trying to get the tax returns trying to get other financial information from the president when you were interviewed on. CNN recently as people are trying to figure out. How is this impeachment inquiry going to work and you said when you talk about Russia you have to bring in Ukraine? Can you talk that through because I think that was in the context of the fact that before the announcement of the impeachment inquiry your work work has all been about the president and Russia how does Ukraine factor well as you know. Manafort who who will metaphor the former chairman of the campaign chairman of the campaign worked for Ukraine. He had a contract with with the disgraced president ex president of the Ukraine and bed ex-president was tied to Putin and Russia and so we we saw that connection and we saw the connection between not only manafort and Putin but lynn and others popadopoulos and a lot of them we could see that and we put together what we call the Kremlin clan it's on my tweet page and we show their faces and we put their names and so it's hard not to talk about Ukraine because of this relationship of Russia you came. They invaded Crimea He. He wants to take all of that back. He wants to Ukraine. As a matter of fact I think he believes he can reunite the old Soviet Union Putin. That's right absolutely so as you know. President Obama place sanctions on Russia because of that violation of the treaty going into uh-huh and basically invading the chromium and so you try to cannot talk about Russia without talking about Ah Ukraine because of the relationships that they have so in financial services what are what will be the articles of impeachment richman..

Rep. Maxine Waters asks Facebook to pause work on cryptocurrency Libra

"House Financial Services, tear woman, Maxine Waters, calling for a moratorium on libra until congress has a chance to weigh in. She said that Facebook executives should come before her committee to testify about these issues. She said that Facebook with this announcement is continuing its unchecked expansion and extending its reach into the lives of its users. She called it a wakeup call to get serious about privacy and national security concerns, now, the ranking Republican on the committee, Patrick McHenry has also expressed some reservations about the new crypto currency. We're also hearing, some skepticism from Senate Democrats as well. So clearly Facebook is going to have to answer to congress as well as it develops this new digital currency back to you. All right. Thank you so much. Lon Moi guy, what? So, so that's by, so it's interesting to talk about trust Facebook's push back, and I'm not obviously, on the Facebook board, nor do I care to be put their push back Behei. We're showing you how people trust us in the most. The most powerful way possible with their checkbooks affectively, if they trust us with information that we can have currency go back and forth, what better way to exhibit trust. So this works to their favor. I think so in a lot of ways, I think Facebook is trying to preempt exactly what they're trying to go after. The Senator Sherrod Brown. The top democrat in the house committee said in a statement, he said baseball's already too big into powerful. It has used that power to export users data without protecting their privacy wick, we cannot allow Facebook to run a new crypto currency out of a Swiss Bank account without oversight. Well, so this, this is a new tangent for Facebook is obviously, a very exciting business. But, but it gets you into a place where if we're already into a form of call this economic exchange amongst individuals that already shrouded in mystery for most regulators, the practitioners who don't believe it's mysterious at all for regulators. This would be another thirty dollar move and Facebook stock off of one. Sixty is all. About a recovery from libra. Yes. And the market overall. But from from headlines on regulatory onslaught. So that stuff is not left Facebook. And I think this is a reminder of such. All right. Well, our next guest says libra could be a watershed moment for Facebook and the crypto spice space, Mark Mahaney's, internet, arby's, capital market here in house. I mean this is a rare. A long time. It's good to be back outside, but he knows that. Look, went at all, by the way, so we're just talking about this. Pop Facebook stock, and, and some would say, oh, you know, it's libra, what do what do you think? I think that's definitely part of it. I mean the stocks up seven eight percent in the last three days, what other news is there. So the speculation started building up on Friday. We wrote a note on at that morning. Another one today, look this overstated this may be the way mo- moment for Facebook. In other words when I talked with really long-term-oriented investors on Facebook. They liked the business the core advertising business, but they want to know what the option value is what else can this company do besides advertising? They may have just answered the question, there's a lot of ands, or buts, and where the execute well in this or not. But I think the model to look for here is a we chat, and what we had is done in China, and they generate about ten billion a year and relatively high profit revenue its share of commerce. Assira transactions Facebook has these two great assets that people in the US under appreciate this thing called WhatsApp. That's over a billion people. You leave the US. This is very widely used and immaterial. Monetize.

Committee chair Maxine Waters has attendee removed from bank hearing

"Steve Mnuchin is the head of the Treasury Secretary. He's the Treasury Secretary. He's that guy who he and his so called actress wife posed in front of all the stacks of money at at the Fort Knox or someplace like that. And he's taken a lot of private trips, and he's a Hollywood elite. Yeah. You know, he's a producer. And he's and he's a creepy guy. And he got into a fire exchange with US Representative Maxine Waters on Tuesday during the committee hearing with lawmakers on Capitol Hill at the end of three and a half hour testimony before the house appropriations committee and financial services committee, which is chaired by Maxine Waters. Mnuchin interrupted the hearing to remind the committee of a prior agreement that he would be able to leave by five pm now. I know we have some of the audio of this. I don't know where it starts. Exactly here. We go. You have acted differently than they have acted as as I have said if you wish to leave you make. If you'd wish to keep me here. So that I don't have my important meeting and continue to grill me, then we can do that. I will cancel my meeting, and I will not be back here. I will be very clear if that's the way you'd like to have this relationship. Thank you the tension. The secretary has agreed to stay to hear all the rest of the members of the press and respect our time. I was next on foreign meeting you you're instructing me to stay here. And I should know you just made me an offer. I didn't make you maybe offers I accept it. I did not offer. Just let's be clear instructing. You're ordering me to stay here. No. I'm not to ring you. I'm responding. I said, you may leave anytime you want, and you said, okay. If that's what you wanna do. I'll cancel my appointment, and I'll stay here. So I'm responding to your request. If that's what you want. What I wanna do? I told you like to do what I've told. You thought it was respectful that you'd let me leave at five fifteen pre to leave anytime time, you make all that want plea-. Please dismiss everybody. I believe you're supposed to take the gravel and bang. That's least instruct me as to how to conduct this committee. What do you can just tell he can't stand? So yeah, I think without question. He common ground anymore. I'm sorry. You got a tweet by somebody who tweeted this out Reagan, we have a border crisis. Bush senior hold on. This is a response yet to Maxine Waters, Maxine Waters. Stupidity who was talking about every member of congress democrat and Republican must protect our constitutional power of the purse doing allow this president to run over us. You don't stand for something. You will fall for anything fake emergency fake wall. President. Shut up. So Jason re tweeted Reagan, we have a border crisis. Bush senior we have a border crisis Clinton, we have a border crow. We have a border crisis junior got a border. Crisis. It's a crisis at the border. Meaning that there's it. CBS News poll reveals what viewers want to hear at State of the Union

"I want to talk about the state of the union. But apparently that that's too much for somebody of your delegates years so tonight. Yes, the state of the union trivia question is this the president's third or second state of the union must be a third trick question. The first one was given when he was giving a joint speech to the joint session of congress. In other words, when you're in office for nine days, they don't you do a state of the union yet because you're just kind of find in the bathroom. So this is the second which is hard around here. On the way here. It's amaz- W O R in this. I heart media. No question about it. But I mean, obviously, these things they get a lot of hype. All right there. They're carried by something like thirteen or fourteen stations networks, right? Probably will get anywhere between. I think forty five million watched last year probably a trickle down a little bit. I don't think by much though, it usually does year after year after the first one, but still forty million people much less. Probably everything's much less suitable had ninety eight million viewers. Oh, that's horrible. And then you realize it's nine. Absolutely. And and the number one thing, I think is a that people will be watching lease is will Democrats behave themselves, and by that, you know, obviously, they don't like this president very much polls show that they that that their constituents want President Trump impeached. Not after the mullahs report. Right. Not after anything like that. They want him impeach now by seventy eight percent margin. This according to Gallup, all right. So by booing him or by not exactly showing any sort of respect. I think they think that will play well with their base. But I think what we got to start doing. Maybe you'll agree with me it stopped thinking to the base so much right and start thinking of in other words, forty percent of people in this country will will vote for Donald Trump. No matter what forty will vote against him. No better much that twenty in the middle. You've got to be thinking. Talk. Baby that forty percent could be away by whatever's in that Muller report, if the mullahs report is so bad. Stinky cheese that it could chip away at that forty percent. But I agree that that that forty percent Israel is there it would be have to be absolute collusion between literally a phone call between Trump and Putin saying, hey, give me the WikiLeaks WikiLeaks, and I don't think we're going to see that can you fix ethic. Yeah. We would have already had that everything weeks. And we would have heard something by now. So I think it'll be something. That's. We'll have some guilty pleas from Manafort, obviously, but they do Flynn, right? And it'll be stuff that sketchy, but nothing to do with collusion. And I think it'll be we we move on. Apparently that that reports coming out less than a month, according to we'll talk some more about X. I have some thoughts on that as well. But anyway, so let's let's say so we start with that. Where you've got you've got the hardcore base, and then you've looked at. And then you've got the dams on the other side, but they're there. This is feeling so much anger between both sides listening now to you know, this state of the union, it's gonna be Maxine Waters, for example. She's telling people, you know, turn off your TV's watch. Yeah. Boycott, and I'm thinking, wow. You know, we want to be educated. Right. We want to know what our president is saying to us whether we agree or disagree because I might really disagree with a lot of points that our president is going to make to us tonight. But I want to be educated about what he says. So then I can go out, and I can say, you know, have a conversation with you konczal. I could say, you know, I disagree with you or Trump on this point and go Mark down with you. And have a have an intellectual discussion with you about them. If if I tune something out, how am I ever going to have that? Discussion with you. How am I ever going to discuss the facts if I just tune you out, it's childish, right? And and child is like anything else in life. You just tuned that person out Chuck Schumer already spoke, basically, saying, we're not we shouldn't listen to this president there because what they're what the White House is trying to say, look, we're going to try to strike a tone of bipartisanship that that you know, that we look we had this government shutdown. The both sides were heard, and now, let's let's work at healing and find places we can work together like infrastructure, for instance. Right. Which always seems like a pretty easy place to talk. That's really a democratic idea. That's government spending. That's been a Trump thing in his support. And and and and you know, and I agree with this, by the way, that's the unifying message just things are crumbling, and we're going to invest somewhere. Let's hear. Just look around the indeed and Schumer's already rejecting it saying, we shouldn't listen to this president just just like Maxine Waters, and then you have Kamala Harris, the Senator who's running for president at a California. She's doing what's called a pre Buttle. Right. And that sounds like a bad movie skinny max at three o'clock in the morning, but she's doing the pre Buttle, and that's at seven forty five before the state of the union before she knows what the president's going to say. And then of course, you have Stacey Abrams doing the pulse rebuttal, which which is fine. But it just seems like everybody's going into this just like they have with everything else over the last two years in their safe spaces tribalism rules, and we're not gonna listener budget anyway because we're already in a presidential election season. We are. But I don't like I don't like the idea boycotting. I don't like doing that. But let's talk about what he's where's he going to go? He's going to go. The big the wall is the big thing. Do you think do you think he's gonna drop this whole big thing about nationally emergency I- Bloomberg? Is reporting that he will not well, he'll probably broach it he's not going to declare it. Right. Yeah. Can't do it before the negotiations are over. But that that will not be said tonight. You got some in the presence party, like Mitch McConnell, for instance, are saying, you know, that this probably is not a good idea. Exactly. So I mean, we talked to know are often last night from MSNBC a political commentator conservative. And he says just take everything that the that the Democrats are offering right now, and that that would be the better way to go. Yeah. Yeah. Actually said that that Trump would come out ahead. If he did that right? Embrace him more, the smart technology, even President Trump said today hedge a little bit. You said, you know, what we'll build a human wall. In other words, maybe troops to the border. So look as long as it works as long as you can deter people coming into this country illegally. My position is I know it's a semantic thing with the wall and the symbolism of it. But as long as it's works. Yeah. But the problem is though, he President Trump still has to be able to go and say to his the people that voted for him. Look, I I gave you what I promised you. I built you the wall. And as a little aside, I was reminding you this yesterday. Hey. We're going to have Mexico pay for it. We have to Mexico pay for it. Remember, it's not supposed to be us paying for member. I mean, I'm going to keep coming back on that. Because I don't forget that his e promised that the president has said because of the better deal that was struck with with Mexico and Canada, the new NAFTA deal that therefore the money from that helps supply it's not the money. All right. We have a four trillion dollar budget. It's five billion gazillion and have lots of deficits to sell please. But the five billion in all that much. Wouldn't you guys? It's not the money. It's not it's like a lot of billion out of four trillion. In a contextual matter is not all that much as one tenth of one percent less than one percent. Anyway. What some people will be watching tonight. They'll people like the political theory as well lis. Right. Maybe they're not there to listen to the policy or the speech or the see the reaction of Democrats. But you know, there are bet you can place now because you can place bets everywhere. Yeah. You could actually wager on what's going to happen at the state of the union, for instance, what do you think the president will mention I in his remarks is according to bet DS IRA, it's called prop pets. Okay. Yes. Well, he mentioned I all right. The vice president the Senate majority leader members of congress, my fellow Americans first lady or speaker of the house those words have to come out of his word now. Yeah. Well, if he mentioned his his my fellow Americans, he should convention. I I would think so. Right. If you wanna strike bipartisanship. Okay. That one hundred dollars on that you'd win three hundred. So. Lampley, you gotta get like, you gotta go to jersey apparently jersey, you can't bet New York. You have to literally take the path over hold your phone in the air show. You're in New Jersey by your locator. And then you could put that in from there. Sounds hard. Yeah. It's it's not convenient for New Yorkers. But there's another story for another time. All right. Another question. Another bet you push. President trump. Yeah. The interrupted by something other than applause. Other than applaud that a plot. Can that be what? Yeah. Exactly. Applause screaming hawk. No, I'm thinking. Flying paper paper like little like throw the paper. Make a sound though. I think they're talking about booze. Oh, I would I would think like rolled up paper like, you know, when you in in your grade school, and you had the little paper wads them, you know. Yes. That gets you four fifty back in two hundred dollar bet. No, however, saying he won't be interrupted by anything other than applause is at minus eight hundred. No. I think he'll be booed. It happened. It happened with President Obama with Joe Wilson. Call calling him a liar. Yes. That's right. Remember that that kind of behavior while the partisans would love it, right? Like, you showed them so poorly. And it's time when mcchord was just talking about this. You know interview that he did yesterday. I think it was with CBS early show. It's it's just like you don't it's time about civility. We've really I mean. I know it sounds cliche. Did I know it sounds so close? So sounds phony coming from him considering the way he treated Br Cavanaugh during those hearings civility, really all right? Okay. So I'm just taking the latest example, but come on we really are trying to be more civil now. So the the party. I mean, even if you guys don't believe it. Okay. Be it. I mean fake it till you make it right? Was was my saying got me through college. How many standing ovations or something? President Trump received the over under sixty nine and a half meaning received more than sixty nine and a half or less than sixty nine and a half standing ovation. It's exactly even. So what what the heck does. That mean? It's it's can't decide it's one number. It goes over that number or under sixteen. That's what he'll get. No. Yeah. You understand that? That's the bar sixty nine gymnastics. All right there. He gets more than sixty nine and a half or less than sixty nine and a half. What do you got half? The it's impossible because there isn't a half of was registering is. You never played high low with cards. No, no, that's not registered. You think? He'll get seventy. Oh. I

Saudi-led coalition troops take Yemen port neighborhood as country on brink of famine

"Trump to be held without bail. While he awaits trial Caesar Sayaka, Florida resident who frequently praised President Trump while threatening his opponents on social media is accused of sending bombs to the Obamas. The Clinton's former vice president Joe Biden next CIA director John Brennan, congress members, Maxine Waters, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, liberal activists, Tom Steiner, and George Soros, actor Robert deniro and CNN's main office building in Manhattan at the supreme court. Newly seeded Justice Brett Kavanagh appeared receptive Tuesday to the arguments of a condemn Missouri prisoner who says he's likely to experience extreme. Pain if he subjected to a lethal injection Russell buck Lou was scheduled to be executed last March before the high court agreed to hear his appeal. His attorneys argued at the supreme court, Tuesday, Buckley's rare medical condition could prevent a lethal injection drug from circulating properly through his veins likely leading to a death so agonizing it would violate the constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment. The supreme court split four two four earlier this year on whether to allow the execution to proceed meaning Justice Cavanaugh will likely cast the deciding vote in the case, and in Wisconsin, where Republican governor Scott Walker was defeated on Tuesday in his bid for a third term an office. The high tech manufacturer Foxconn says seeking to bring in workers from China to help run the factory under construction near the city of Racine. Governor Walker back to plan with the support of house speaker Paul Ryan and President Trump to. Died three billion dollars in tax credits to Foxconn claiming the taxpayer money would provide thousands of new jobs while renovating Wisconsin's economy, but Foxconn has scaled back its plans now saying it'll hire just three thousand workers in the short term, most of them and engineering positions rather than the thirteen thousand Matthew facturing jobs governor Walker had promised and the size of the tax payer subsidy has steadily increased to four point one billion dollars during two terms office. Governor Scott Walker which known for aggressively busting unions, and for his close ties to right wing dark money groups, and those are some of the headlines, this is democracy. Now democracy now dot org. The warrant piece report, I'm Amy Goodman, Juan Gonzalez, welcome to all of our viewers and listeners across the country and around the world. Democrats have seized control of the house of representatives flipping more than two dozen seats. This gives Democrats subpoena power for the first time since President Trump was elected two years ago, while the Democrats will control the House Republicans picked up two more seats in the Senate on the state level. Democrats picked up seven governorships huge turnout numbers were reported across the country. President Trump responded to the election results by tweeting, quote, if the Democrats think they're going to waste taxpayer money investigating us at the house level. Then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of classified information and much else at the Senate level to complete that game. The terms were a groundbreaking election for women for the first time in US history. At least one hundred women will serve in the US house of representatives, including the first two native American women and the first two Muslim women later in the program. We'll hear from. Democratic socialist Alexandra Cossio Cortes who became the youngest woman ever elected to congress. But we begin today's show with two guests here in New York, Katrina, vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of the nation. America's oldest weekly magazine. She's also a columnist for the Washington Post dot com, and we're joined by Rashad Robinson, executive director of color of change. We welcome you both to democracy. Now, let's begin with Katrina vanden who've oh your thoughts on what has taken place the house now in the hands of Democrats Republicans have expanded control of the Senate. I think taking back the house is critical is a check on President Trump. But also, I think it's important people know that a majority of the committees and subcommittees will be controlled by progressives. The progressive caucus will have about ninety members some of the women you mentioned will join and it will have thirteen committees. And I think thirty subcommittees that's important. And I think the ability to not only hold the president in the. Administration accountable on corruption on self interest on self-dealing, but the ability to lay out bold initiatives, bold, legislation may not pass with a Senate as we've seen it. But it's critical. I think that the progressive Democrats lay out in this war of ideas, that progressives have been winning to a certain extent fifteen minimum wage jobs program infrastructure, free higher. Ed. The governor's race is one spoke of critical critical both as a blue wall against the redistricting scams that we've seen from the Republicans critical also to rest back the rust belt from Trump who really did. Well, and key parts, Wisconsin. How sweet it is Scott Walker going down. I mean, my colleague John Nichols has written so much copy about this man who busted public workers assault on education has demeaned and degraded the Wisconsin idea, so I think that's critical amendment for renewed Robinson. And I were. Talking about it. One thing we've seen in this election. Amien won the barriers to democratic participation the will funded targeting voting suppression. So men men for restoring rights to ex-felons to vote one point four million Floridians will be able to vote I think is a vital step on the road to a true democracy. Statehouses? We haven't seen the numbers yet. But those will be hopeful as well flipping. I think Minnesota and a few others. So I think it was you know, it was a bittersweet night because we've seen the incendiary toxic. Nationalism xenophobia, any immigrant actions talk of this president and his enabler in the Republican party. You know, they they secured some wins. However, those who say was kinda split, let's all recall that the Senate map is the most horrific for Democrats. I mean, it's just, you know, the one third up we're really states in which the Republicans and Trump of played well, you mentioned the rust belt, and it to know that there were three states that really delivered for Trump, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania and of the and they're those three in those three states. The statewide all Ron's either for governor or for Senate for the US Senate of the Democrats won six out of seven. So you've seen a situation now where those key states now are really not as reliable Republican as they appear to be in two thousand. One. I mean, many of those voters went for Obama in two thousand and eight and two thousand and twelve so it was that flip in two thousand sixteen that has to be looked at. And I think last night was in good insight into what is possible in twenty twenty in effect. We can talk about a twenty twenty began last night, but that's a different discussion. But I think you see it with taking back those those state houses there were some good minimum wage initiatives in states very troubling that good initiative in Washington state, the kind of carbon tax the green new deal went down. You still see the power of corporate money in our system and at the state level. There were six states that moved into total democratic contrived and the one of the New York state where the New York state Senate, which was had been very evenly divided. The Republicans control now is overwhelmingly democratic twenty three. I think is now the number in the New York state Senate win that means in terms of what can be accomplished. By progressives. Progressives won a supermajority in the Vermont house neutralizing, the newly reelected governor fill Scott's veto threat knows this. I mean, it's critical on so many levels. But historically, as you will know we've lost over a thousand state legislative seats in the last few years. So this is coming back and saying Democrats progressives are going to play at all levels, New York state. You studied you've written one? It's a major win us. See what governor Cuomo does with it because he's hid behind the inability to do much with the independent democratic conference now defeated one last race, which I think is very important one. And I were talking about is Antonio Delgado in the nineteenth congressional district that race was supercharged with toxic racist rhetoric. John Foucault has held out against good people except for teach out, but he's gone. So I think you know, it's a bittersweet, but I think real gains were made. And I think it would be wrong to. Downplay those one of the nation's most closely watched races of the year remains too close to call Georgia secretary of state Brian Kemp, holding a slim lead over democratic challenger Stacey Abrams who is vying to be the first African American woman governor in US history, but Abrams is refusing to concede because thousands of absentee ballots have not yet been counted campus currently at fifty point five percent if he dips below fifty the race goes to a runoff. The Georgia race was marred by widespread allegations of voter suppression carried out by Brian camp. Again, who is as Georgia secretary of state is in control of the elections, despite the fact many demanded that he recused himself. Meanwhile, in Florida Democrat Andrew gillum conceded to Republican Ron to Santa's after a tight race Gillam attempting to become Florida's first African American government, but faced a string of racist attacks from outside groups into Santa's who told Floridians knocked. Monkey this up and in Maryland, Republican governor Larry HOGAN was re elected defeating democrat, Ben jealous. The former head of the N double ACP or shod Robinson. You're the executive director of color of change. Yeah. I think I think these. You know, what happened last night with particularly with Andrew in Stacy's race. I think represents the way that the south is changing.

"On monday representative maxine waters told gave a speech in which she or addressed a crowd in which he encouraged those who are disappointed with the administration to approach them in public to tell them they weren't welcome if you see them at gasoline stations if you see them restaurants and it to me seemingly clumsy way to encourage people to harass individuals in public and i thought it was a disappointing thought it was strange and then the of course the debate raged on social media and it was you know everyone jumping into the fight and it felt like an underdog you get this feeling he felt like people got much meaner almost quickly with people were angry and spiteful before and name calling but it felt like it was a quickening like everyone got meaner much more quickly absolutely absolutely i know we started and we wanted this to be discussion about civility and that's what it should be i just don't understand when i mean growing up you talk your parents were you know they were you both republican and democrat same with my family i can remember all my relatives some very democrats very republican but i ever remember anybody ever insulting each other i don't remember mocking each other my family and they would talk politics i mean think about think about as a kid all the family gatherings are talking politics i don't remember name calling or being rude or as you get to your point both of your points earlier you bringing this red herring you start attacking someone's character or something they like or dislike or a belief that they have which has nothing to do with the discussion you know why can't we all just have a discussion about it and be somewhat respectful why why kick sarah sanders out of a restaurant and why and on the flip side why is it okay for maxine waters which it's not to say oh you know attack these people in public i'm sorry here's the thing i can i can get on facebook and i can get on the radio and i can i can say i don't agree with what maxine waters saying and i can the democratic party can hold her accountable and guess what more democrats got down on maxine waters and that twenty four hour period so have republicans have gotten down on donald trump in a year and a half and the thing is i can say i will be civil and i could say i believe my party should be civil but let's not ignore the fact that you have the insult comic in chief as president who is constantly violating yeah every single norman every single rule of civility in attacking whether it's attacking name calling his response to maxine waters was you know to attack her i q that's a very strange oh to the he always goes to the black person and says the black person has a low iq oh he's lucky okay you said he was punchdrunk no i'm kidding kidding myrna what do you think about all this in order to i it's like the same buddies you want respect you have to give respect and trump supporters don't seem to understand that for before i forget thank you to your guest tonight and last night the republicans who represent what republican with education is because locally it's a whole different story and how republicans compared to the ones that are in dc the ones locally and i'm proud to say this about a little boy they've shown a lot of class the only agree with it they stated in a way that's very educated unlike the ones in dc who just keep supporting trump even though they know that it's you know he he's ideals are incorrect the don't seem to have the goan adds to see we don't agree with it they just go along with it it's very good thank you to your guests mcginn tonight everyone's last night for for having the golden edge to being republicans but to be true to themselves and to their constituents and i was telling michael that earlier i was reading that e men in the state where we'd be incident took place red st louis okay he man was arrested today for throwing a bucket or poop at the west went on to.

"Okay and obviously you know that's inciting violence there's no doubt about it that's inciting violence but an interesting question is who's inciting more violence i mean is it trump or is it maxine waters or is it both his is it you know i think you've got to i don't think it's you can just say it's oh it's all republicans or it's all democrats in the you got to pick out some people maxine waters has said weird stuff in the past donald trump is always said weird stuff no matter what but you know maxine waters said some interesting things that make you think remember what he said what he said to someone i would like to punch him in the face do you remember that mac yes you do yes that was on the campaign trail i don't think trump ever said that the punch him in the face i'll tell you okay maybe he said that one okay how about this remember when he said to the crowd the crap out of dan all i remember that no you're inciting violence trump never said so if you see somebody getting ready to throw it tomato knocked the crap out of okay maybe no one all right so do you get what we're saying do you understand what what we're getting too well but how do you quantify it but i don't know i mean i i would say this i would say trump has used more aggressive words i'd like to punch him in the face i like you to punch him if you do i'll pay your legal bills right of that one no on the campaign trail mon you are making stuff up i don't think i have oh okay but but maxine waters will claim that if you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato knocked the crap out of seriously there's not the hell i promise you i will pay for the legal fees i promise i promise okay now that's tell somebody to go after somebody else i mean come on they're both wrong right i mean.

"I mean it's it's ridiculous but maxine waters completely ignored that completely ignores it the truth is i i want people to uncover corruption that's that's actually what i want our media to do that so i love investigative journalism real investigative journalism because it uncovers stuff like what the dnc was doing the problem is the dnc is cooperating with the us media so who else do we have well you know we get somebody who uncovers who hacked in an stole the emails and they shared it with arteaga and rt start sharing rao rt being a russia television for those you guys don't know russia televisions is statesponsored media uh that uh that you can watch if you want to get an alternate view of what's happening in america now nothing wrong with rt just understand that it's russian propaganda and it is about his truthful as what you see in american media today to one of the things i try and do here's i try and give you the truth i try and i mean and i don't always get it right because i'm the but what i understand the way i understand it i always try and present you the truth and one of the things you have to understand is there is no unbiased media anymore if there ever was everywhere you go fox news msnbc cnbc rt rt america all the washington post the new york times the wall street journal all of it is biased all of it has an angle nobody is out there just reporting the news and in unfortunately investigative journalism has largely died in this country because it doesn't sell you know what cells to quote unquote talking heads on camera having will judge judy moment hannele jerry springer moment arguing back and forth i just saw did a as a side no did you see the jerry springer has new shows on the air i was just sitting in the bullpen gal sitting next to me and apparently jerry springer was on she goes i think we can shut off jerry springer which is playing there was no audio but i remember i was like man i can't believe that he's got that much traction like this many years later jerry springer is still on the air and reruns and she.
