Handicapping the Breeders' Cup

"It is finally here the world championships the Breeders Cup for the thirty six time and for the tenth time at Santa Anita it's time to handicap the world championship hip and for that we bring into our experts one we've had regularly and one for the first time we welcome back Ed Derosa of the brisket handicapping service and for the first time we bring in Molly Joe Rosen we followed her on twitter a lot it's good to finally bring her onto the show so again we said we're not going to handicap all of these races were GonNa pick the seven or so that we think have really good competition and will go with those and we'll start on the Friday card with the juvenile a race that has been diminished a bit with the defection of one of the early favorites Max field for Godolphin so we're really left with three big horses here to talk about Denis's moment the favourite eight rings and Scabbard Dennis's moment has been very consistent through his writer in his debut and then just missed a track record at Ellis Park can you really call a two year old and overwhelming favourite. What do you think here let's start with molly I think it's right open race I could not touch horse at eight to five not as you said not with two year olds you know making third and fourth fifth career starts I mean to me that just is crazy and I love him think he's phenomenally talented could wind up being the second coming of Secretariat obviously he's a freak of nature having won his to really his to start saying oh he's got that through the writer and the debut but you know he's one by twenty one lane I mean you can't knock a horse like that Dale is great with these types of horses he's prepped well he's looked great you know you take nothing away from him but eight to five in a eight Horsfield because not a MAC field scratch I can't touch a horse at eight five I do think it is a really wide open race I'm GonNa look at other horses you know take nothing away from eight rings also a horse who has done nothing wrong also worth who lost a job I do think a horse like scabbard for me is more interesting this is a horse who breaks his maiden by five then steps up and they had some has some learning to do and Eddie neely is great with these types of horses and I think if you're looking for price and you don't WanNa go towards one of the more so obvious sources for me a horse like Scabbard who's on the improve has really done nothing wrong in his career but you know seems to have maybe you have to overcome some some tendencies to find rebel trips of course to me like Scabbard is super intriguing? Ed What do you think well we're we're going to write off the rip because I'm all in on Dennis's moment and he's the only horse I'm using molly Jo Sung as praises appropriately and with the scratch AMAC's field unfortunately is is backers aren't even eight to five now so if that wasn't good enough for you Molly Joe I'm sure you're not gonna be happy with even money or six to five but the this horse You know the maiden win at Alice just blew everyone stores off so what can you say super professional in the Iroquois though defacto second career start I read got a handle for this horse got to test drive them so to speak and we've seen Dale ship out to the who've no at Santa Anita perform well with not this time it was second do horse I had a lot of respect for classic empire so I think he's early the horse to be an in a very competitive Friday car he's my big single day I'm with Molly I think scabbard had some trouble in finishing second today this is moment in the Iraq war and I think it's GonNa come down to those two I'm not discounting Dennis as moment but I think scabbard has to be more seriously considered than five to one lead move to the filly and mare sprint I'm really torn here about cafe when we get to the Saturday card I mean she won the Edgewood and the Miss preakness so maybe I'm not as impressed as other people are by the way she runs ed can she run her race from the rail She can for me either the bigger question and the rail is a question the bigger question is is shipping out west and she is not coming for a bar and that is it's been out there very long Dale with Dennis's moments that we talked about shipped out about a week ago see Asmussen's been there with his crew for seven her week so I am eager to see how horses on Friday to that hadn't chipped in versus the ones that have been there awhile local horses etc if I perceive a bias in that regard that might sway me offer as the favorite I will say on raw talent I absolutely think she is the best filly in this field for test was incredible energy titan or Churchill albeit against lesser was what you would want to see he coming into a race like this offer race like the test so I'm a believer but keeping an open mind and this is one of those cases where I am going to use information as it becomes available throughout the Friday card to see how liberal liberal I wanNA use her on Saturday molly what do you make of come dancing I'm not saying how do they poll she's got two and a Half Lake leaving don the destroyer next toward the inside at third special relativity first half of the year then the second half clearly has talent what do you make of her you know she's obviously you know a a really really lovely horses cool to see Carlos Martin on the big stage I I've known Carlos a real long time and he's just a phenomenal horsemen and She did have you know crazy good first half of the year her her win margins were certainly bigger flashier there was certainly more space there but running second to midnight visa in the VIPs you know other than that she's comeback her ballerina was beautiful her gallant bloom was beautiful I do worry a little bit about whether or not she can run in a straight I'm and that especially at Santa Anita we've seen over the years what was her name the Philly that ran second to beholder in the the distaff I wanNA say executive privilege we've seen horses who may not be able to run in a straight line not get there in time Santa Anita in the past and that concerns me a little bit when you do have other really consistent Phillies in here like FFA ed do you see attention long shot here in this race because I'm not loving come dancing I liked but don't love cafe what about dawn the destroyer will become a from the back and I guess you were saying you gotta see the Friday card to see whether anyone really can close at Santa Anita but what do you think about a long shot here that's actually and afterward oh so is this a matter where if you don't like the two favorites you chuck them and use them all I could see that as a strategy especially if you really where let's move to the turf to the mile not the dirt mile we'll get to the dirt mile let's go to the Turf Mile and here you've got to Phillies the headliners got stormy and Uni but now you've got circus maximus with a real European threat here it's not been the best year for eight and O'Brien really do you trust circus maximus here not in any way shape size or form and not at that price just in case you're wondering if I

"Very few successful athletes get to win their illustrious career here's by going out on top a handful come to mind John elway one super bowls in his last two years with the Denver Broncos Peyton manning went out with a super bowl win I'm for that same team Ray Bork left the NHL team with which he'll forever be associated the Boston Bruins to win a Stanley Cup with Colorado and then jet off into the sunset it could be the same kind of fairy tale ending to the career of one of the most successful jockeys North America Eurico Rosa Dasilva who was written primarily at Woodbine race course in Toronto for the past fifteen years the forty four year old rider will call it a career sometime in mid December he's one six sovereign awards for best writer the sovereigns are the eclipse awards of Canada he's been the leading writer at Woodbine five times and won back to back queen's plates the Kentucky Derby of Canada in September he took down for what will be the only time one of the tracks signature races and by so doing wing now has a chance to cap his career with the Breeders Cup win they come to the home stretch the Rica Woodbine Mile Lou collina's Kliot down the outside of mass up the rails all across the track and L. Tournament coming through God's stormies in front to Second L. Tormenta Luke Collina's they're raging bull starting to build a run late in the latest what stormy that Philip Dodd Manta up the inside strides astrid L. dollars Meta on the inside and L. A. has one Rico with by L. Tormenta was forty four to one that day and now he's being pointed to the Breeders Cup Mile he'll no doubt be a long shot Swell facing the likes of got stormy Higher Power Uni and possibly circus maximus but hey a win for L. Tormenta over that group would be a real story book ending the career of our next guest Jockey Eurico Rosa Silva who joins us for a few minutes here on in the gate you've been around logging enough to know that forty four to one shots don't come in every day especially in grade one races so what was going through your head as you powered down the lane to win the Woodbine Mile Tormenta when when I was on the race what's compete under moment I was not thinking winning or or lose us me and him we both doing the weekend through two hundred race right and was completed on their moment or so folks all we want it could wire I you had not much experience with that horse before the Woodbine Mile I think but he had been a turf sprinter last year at age three free so what do you think made trainer Gail Cox decide to stretch this gelding out a little yes I think falling these horse he used to go to the elite before and he was a sprinter and you know they start taking him back and he learned how to relax and then they stretch him out and I think that was the key for him you know to learn how to relax and today he is I can say that they did very good job because he's he's not a horse to ride you know he relaxed that easy for you as we talked about an are open you're retiring basically at the top of your game made now the right time the right time for me is that I'm young to start a new business and my kids I really really want to focus on my family you've said that you grew up without family and you don't want that to happen to your three young children including a nine month old daughter congratulations what do you mean that you grew up without family when Noah's keeping my mom was always working I completed grew up Foodie much without my father and that's almost could create a black hole inside yourself you know as much I want to win before the races and I used to have a Lotta anger and I know in fewest I work on myself and that came from being a kid that most of the time King or in the street you know trying to make a leave and when I started understanding more that and I see how important for the keeps to have their baroness supporting them when they're growing up you know and because they didn't have that and also I want to enjoy seen my son my daughter having that with me you know he's not been better for myself I can say that when I'm not tired and I can take my keep to the park and play with them is very subtly fight for me because I raised for the time here and take a lot of promo body and he's very high from to do that well two things first of all I hate to break this to you but eventually those kids are going to become teenagers I have one and it's not really going very well so yes enjoy it all now while you can the other thing is you said you're racing here and you know as a top okay you'd have less trouble than less successful jockeys would booking mounts if you follow the money during colder months let's say to Florida to Kentucky but you've not real he done that it seems I believe once turned down a Breeders Cup ride to raise woodbine instead that day so what is your thought process for how you have set your skin Joel in the wintertime people think oh he's home he's that but you know I really work in myself I have entertained that work inside myself to come through to the recall you showing up on the track you know and he's the kind of really Really set the myself down and work on the brain I I really I never stopped working on the tire year I'll take two weeks like I am free as I'm not going to do anything and just deal with the family other time I use the time that I have time to work with myself inside myself oh jockey Eurico Rosa Dasilva joining us here on in the

"Elsayed good morning I'm good said I didn't think to ask this accept the fact that The dirt mile fresh top of mind off of Mary's visit a we know that it's been an intrusive edition in a handle generator but what's what's its role really as a contributor into a stallion the prospect it just doesn't feel like it it it's all that valuable or or important from that standpoint well I think if you you know look at what Dick Mandela had told recorder as Lake to build sending in the article in the end his leaning towards sprint because appeals to more prestigious rates in the Breeders Cup Mile Dirt Mile and I kinda tell your you need to know the dirt mile probably lack of You know better word probably you're spot for unquote but he decided to go and sprint because it's much more prestigious rates you know the thing is mile races are important yet cigar mile obviously metropolitan mile those races are a pretty big stallions resume the Breeders Cup dirt mile as opposed to the biggest cup mile on on the glass doesn't have that cachet which basically question and with that idea in mind and absolutely right just looking at the and and here's you know here's the list of winners and of course city alight last year Battle of Midway Thamar coups Lemes map and certainly his his stallion career off to a very nice start golden sense back to back tap czar calebs Ossete Dakota phone furthest Land Albertus Maximus and Carinthian the first of the the dirt mile winners so it it isn't it's not as if you know that list golden sense in recent years golden sense and Leems map can't you can't argue with the with the early returns on hairstyling efforts no you know Liam's math at one of the prestigious Woodward Cutler is like Golden sense showed us forum early by winning Santa Anita Derby Day later cut back in in trips in one the I think he wanted dirt mild lights right no I mean you know both those horses are promising career tally as well obviously you know came into that race Legitimate prospects beforehand you know a wonderfully Catalina cruiser interestingly enough going this dirt mile and I don't know if they will or not because the only blemish is record I believe is that the dirt mile from a year ago the way he's he's perfect but the one thing he's whacking is that great one and that that would be important Chris his careers balancing now that's a fair that's a fair points for for a horse like for a horse like him just getting that yeah just getting that mark is is probably is probably enough and so from that standpoint you you WanNa pick the the race that is more likely to you're more likely to win remember I think when when when Vinnie Viola and and Todd pletcher made that choice with Liam's map it felt a little this pointing I mean because he looked coming off the Woodward way yeah it just felt like go for the brass ring although at the same time going off going off with a slam dunk slam dunk to some degree in the in the so you still have to go out and win it they don't give it away no exactly I so I just hit the big my biggest frustration I have no problem with anybody that goes in this direction it just it it in the breeders cups interest in handing the event it just invariably has taken courses from you know from two of the much more important races the classic and and the sprint although this year it's certainly not going to hurt the sprint this year the sprint which has been kind of limping along with smallish builds and and you know a little less interesting than it used to be not this year it's got every potential to be as as entertaining his any race on on the on the card over the two days said aside from Breeders Cup I've got a bunch of boy a whole bunch of things to talk about

If you WanNa know what's going on in the world if you want to have a couple of laps while you're at it also viral hits. This is the place to come and enjoy those three things righty lo I guess well you weren't. I think it's number if for gaffes for weekly gaffes who else is doing weekly gaps. Nobody you know there's that's it <hes> guys keep it up on the I tunes chart smashed that review button because look it's kind of embarrassing. We're I know most of our views are on Youtube and they're very good. I'm very proud and happy the but I mean we're slacking on the itunes charts and it's kind of embarrassing because if I'm foolish maximus if I'm Lord Foolish Maximus and I'm not even the top one hundred chart and I know nobody even listens on audio. Maybe some people is a very visual podcast. It's more of a show really because we watch stuff and I'm not very good catering claudio finishing our podcast well traditionally podcast just audio. It's it's something things that you listen so really I mean I guess it's not really starting to wall yeah. I mean you know let's look up the definition in what is it the parkers on the wall focuses audio why well here let me let me <hes> oh here's the definition a digital audio audio file made available on Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device so what we do have a digital audio file if you are listening <hes> but but you're really listening to an audio video. This is a video you know like when you're making a podcast so you're not you're not talking about the I depend a lot on on visual elements when I'm watching I'm not I'm not very good at catering to audio listener but now the I really think this third way when we started this podcast no it's really a show but people know what a podcast is. If you go to sponsor and you're like we've got a new show. Hold on yeah exactly a show on television new. It's on the Internet podcast SORTA kind of we'll think about it. Yeah could give us a call back later we only you know what can we call it. A pod show pod show you know we had a lot of trouble getting sponsors.

"Welcome to text the nation. Joining us as Mark Honeycutt the of a company called Maximus. Thanks for joining us. Mark. Good to be here. Thanks for having me. Well, maxima sounds like a big company. Background about it. Sure. Well, Maximus actually is the brand of our lighting business. So we've got a a full-blown lighting business commercial business residential for LED products, both smarter non-smart and about four years ago. We launched our first smart home product and really focused at our main growth category moving forward. So our again because we have a lighting background. We we've really done a really nice job of integrating smart technology with camera and motions answer and control into our light fixtures. So that's that's sort of the gist or the background of maximum, lighting and smart on products. And now at the consumer electronic show, you're moving into a new but related category video doorbells, and it's getting to be a pretty crowded space. So you've tried to do something a little unique here looks like. Yeah. Yeah, obviously. And if if you if you read the report of us on our other products in the market, we basically have porch lights in floodlights both with camera. You know, we are goal is to provide, you know, better product better performing product better platform than our competitors. A better user experience with our app, and so forth and and into your question, you know, at the huge demand from our current customers. They're asking for two things beyond outdoor lighting, which which is where we focused, you know, up until now they've asked for hey, you guys are great at outdoor lighting with with camera will how about a doorbell and how about an indoor cameras. So, you know, we're basically responding to huge demand from our customers to sort of have the full complement of of cameras for outside the house inside the house and doorbell. So yes, so we're releasing nasty. Yes. Or launching our? Announcing to the to the world our newest product for platform, and it's called answer. And it is a state of the art video doorbell with and I can get into all the details if you'd like, but it is a market changer 'cause it's going to have capabilities and features that just don't exist in that crowded space, you know, yet. So we've we've pretty much, you know, kind of leapfrog the whole industry with this new product. So tell us about those features. Yeah. So the main thing is we're using Amrullah and they've given permission to use their name, but Amarillo is a chip manufacturer for camera there. Anyone knows this category? Nosy umbrellas, the you know, sort of they're the the Cadillac of the industry in terms of camera. Chip we're using their news chip, and it does support do cameras. So we've got the forward facing camera which are competitors have as well. But we. We also have a downward facing camera as well. So we have a full hundred eighty degree vision with no blind spots. So the way that works is the when you're doing the camera live or watching the prerecorded video it stream simultaneously both cameras. And of course. And if you wanna again, you have you can maneuver inside that to do picture a picture or make one bigger smaller, or whatever you have at your disposal now to cameras instead of one when you're doing that, you know, viewing the doorbell very interesting. And so if you want to keep an eye on say packages that are on the ground in front of the door that kind of thing one of the. Focused on that. Yes. Yes. So you basically can see if you again when you see the demo of the product if you're it literally if you have a package, and it's going to be as close to the doors you want or the porch is you want in views from the door about five feet, both directions. So it shows you the entire viewing area of your of your porch or wherever your front door would be in on in both sides and forward, so there's lily- there's no blind spots. There's a package or pets or or or children or whatever it anything down below that it has visibility of. We're also adding a a package mode to our to our platform. So you'll be able to use artificial intelligence. Hey, I to know win the package is there, and then you can actually turn on tax package mode, which will allow you to actually make the doorbell behave differently. Wants wants wants package is there to sort of protect that package..

"To you by Maximus lighting, Danny my boy two days ago. I put up my maximum spotlight on the side of the house. Yes, it is awesome. In fact, so I had this moon. Just tell the story by the way, if you're looking for security cameras. Remember, I've talked about I've got all kinds of lighting on the outside of my house. Now over the last three years, I'm corporated some Mr. beam light, you know, what Mr. bean lights are probably not because they've been talked about for awhile now. Very very cool their floodlights that are LED if you make a fist they're about the size of a fist maybe a little bit. If you make a fist on top of this. That's the size of a Mr. bean and they run on their LED with a motion detector. Okay it runs on batteries. So were you don't really have an electrical outlet, maybe on the back porch or something you put these up no camera involved. It's just a when you walk by terms. This little light on nice to have like three or four of them. Maximus lighting have coach lights for the porch. Coach sites were by the garage, and they also have floodlights. So I got a floodlight Maximus floodlight in. I had a flood light at the end of the garage at the end of the driveway. Not even looking down the driveway. Okay. So these things are really cool. They're very flexible if you will. So I took them off the power took off my old floodlight in. This thing is like the easiest thing in the world to put up because you're put a flood light up. You got to floodlight you're trying to get to screw into the box. And you got the wires. You like you need six fans. This is already got a play to kind of wire the plate. You're not working with floodlights. Why are the play? Yeah. And then you screw the plate to the box. Any take floodlight new twists it on. It's very very cool. And this floodlight you have total control. It's actually sinked with your phone. So it's LED lights. And there's little camera, and even though it's facing away from my driveway. This camera turns all the way, and then shoot straight down the driveway shoots right in front of the garage doors, and it you can you can you can turn the lights on you can talk all through your phone, you bluetooth. It's very cool. So my wife was taken my daughter to the airport, and I saw when they left this home when they came back because it alerted me that someone was at the door. I love the app. Yeah. You love the app we've been looking at it. It's kind of cool. Yes. But you know, it's not just follow people in and out of your house. But you know, people put FedEx UPS post, they'll put packages air. So kind of have a record of that. And it's just the security measure in on on the phone if you want to you don't see who this person is and your look like they're breaking in the door. You can you can do this in two thousand miles away. You can actually call nine one one right from the app. But anyway, it's Maximus. Maxima sliding very cool. Very cool. Anyway, that was my project for the day after thanksgiving you like that. All right. Eight hundred eight two three eight two five five Mike. Welcome. Gary. Yes, sir. Who actually okay? I thought that Bobby disposal. This is about four years old made by g and due to lack of interest in my part. I guess it's stuffing a bottom crud. Like, I wonder is a proper UCLA are in that. You know what I would do? There's no I wouldn't that's a mild acid. So is it. We don't know what the crowd is. Is it is affecting the operation of it around. The edge water supposed to drain out. It's got a little bit of rushed in that area. Maybe the Seattle on my help that. No, I wouldn't use. That is the rush doing any damage, or is it hurting anything? That's that's my main question not doesn't appear to be. But I put another one in struggle to get to counter that. That I get that. Why don't you just if you wanna use a little bit of an acid to see if it'll help what I would do is. I would quarter a lemon, okay? And. The lemon in there, and maybe some ice cubes and run neck grind that up. I ice cubes a little bit ago didn't seem to help much. I mean, the crowd is still there. I'm not so sure anything's gonna take credit off unless you get it helps sand it and prime all that. But you know, when you say crud, you're calling rust crud. Correct. I mean, you'd think it's this actual credit in a very the very bottom of the garbage. You're supposed to not to the side. There's no very center. Like, okay, I'm gonna give you a couple of things to do first. Let's try to lemons and some ice cubes. I did ice cube. All right. If it's still there there's a product called drain. Bo. I heard about you heard you talk about that before. So again, we don't know what that crowd is. But let's assume that it's food products some 'Bacterial and just go down there, right? Okay. Rainbow is a it's actually a culture bacteria that we'll eat bacteria so old would be bacteria. So it's a bacillus that goes in and starts devouring the bacteria use like four ounces do a court in poured in then don't use it overnight. And then the next day you just go back and use it regularly. But it is designed to eat. Bacteria? Yeah. Well, like, I said it I I would do some more ice cubes do some lemons. And if that doesn't work try the rainbow. Okay. No. My second line. You're a big proponent of the LED bulbs. I'm faced. Well. I was gonna say, yeah. That's where the whole world's move into a proponent, but I love them because they're inexpensive operate. That's for. Sure. Right. Do they generate any heated? All no. Well, that's the problem. I've got I've got I had one ball blessed. I put my kitchen receptacle with two sixty watt volume. I suppose put three sixty total for I guess for the heat. And now the the LED seemed that gets going off to gets hot. It goes off man goes back on cools is that my phone involved in the well, let me ask you. So it's next to in a fixture with incandescent bulbs. Also, correct. Correct. The three altogether and only once all by itself. Yeah. Well, it sounds like the incandescent bulbs or creating the heat which are making a go off. That's what I'm wondering is probably event. Sounds like it. Yeah. I guess I'm just go to more LED's. Yeah. I mean, does it say what the maximum wattage should be in terms of bulbs in that fixture. One eighty which would be three sixties. I thought it wouldn't be that much generated from the to sixties. But I guess I'm mistaken is a fixture so down. It'll eventually come back. Eventually come back on you know, it's really interesting because the the dimmers for LED or even different than the dimmers for incandescent. Well, I've got dimmer in here. It's not. So you got something going on in there. I would try the LED bulbs and see if that doesn't take care of your problem. Okay. I'll give it a shot. See what happens? All right. Thanks, gary. You bet take care. Bye. Bye. And you may have even change out the dimmer, but maybe not either. But the it's definitely heat has got a breaker in there. That's just cutting that thing that back. All right. Kenny, sit tight let's take a little break when comeback enough time to walk you through the whole project..

"And there's so much more that we can talk about, maybe we'll have to do around to, but for the sake of time, I do want to ask you a couple of digital questions. The first one is, what does it mean to be a man? You know, I've actually thought about this a lot in there. It's actually funny. There's this movement afoot where there's almost an anti man movement. Have you heard of this where? Yeah, of course been any way or so. Men are almost like encouraged to become softer in what ice feminine, but yet. But at the same time, there's a lot of dads out there that see their kids every second weekend. Like you'd think if I'm supposed to be more sensitive. Guy, I'd be a better Gad, but that's not okay either. Like I only want my kids every second weekend, which is bullshit. So being a man to be really what it comes down to is doing the right thing, even when no one's watching and setting a better example for your children, it's powerful. I wholeheartedly agree with that, but it just to me because you want me to be more sensitive. You want you to be more and I'm going to yell at anyone or or put anyone down who's in any way aggressive, but I'm not even going to spend time with my own kids. It makes me sick. Yeah, I think we do have this. I, it is saddening because there's so many young boys and girls who are growing up without father figures they just they just are. And there's a lot of reasons for that and it's all unfortunate. But yeah, I think we have a huge moral obligation to be engaged in our children's lives get in really, I could word it another way that's like more flashy for your podcast, but Endel your business. Yeah. Yeah, actually just handle your business situation. You created you handle that shit. That is how I would word it. Nice, nice. Well, how do we connect with you? "And so I expected my goal and therefore when I got to the place which is point six miles where I usually stop, I just kept going not because I was more capable of doing it. But because in my mind I had a new goal, new objective that was greater than what I had previously done. So I- -scribed that it's a lot of it is just your mindset in how you approach the goals and the things you want to accomplish. We'll let me ask you a question. Do you make it to the top of the mountain day one? No, no, not even close. Another question. Do you want to be rich? Yes. Would if I put a bag of ten million dollars topic about you ran your ass up. That's true. That's a good point. Really. Good point. That's what I mean where people want it. You think about how you're motivated, but like you want to do something for your kids. You want to build a better life for them. You put a bag of money at the top of that thing, you'll figure out how to run up their day. One will. I think the challenge though is that people have a hard time connecting in this case running up the mountain and having ten million dollars. Although it's very likely that if you continue to do that, you will achieve that level of wealth and significantly more note for sure, but there's something about you gotta believe, you know, and again, you live in a society where if you believe in yourself, you're an asshole, yet people are going to put you down, you know your era, Ghent your cocky, your egotistical, and you're a whole, and and then you start to believe that stuff. I just don't understand where confidence became a negative in people's eyes. I don't see anything wrong with that. I like confident people because it means they believe in themselves and and hopefully there's something I can learn from those individuals. People are insecure. That's why. Yeah, confident person. I mean, you're assertive, you know, we're having this conversation, you're, you're fit, your assertive, you communicate well. And so I think people are going to be naturally intimidated by that. Well, here's, here's at y'all actually going to bring up my wife. My wife grew up in a very affluent part of the country, but it was also very insecure in very showy. People are very insecure there in it's all about what car you drive, what Ty you wear, what shoes you wear. That's what people. So my wife always had some self image issues, and she talks about this on her Instagram a lot, and I'm very proud of her by doing a lot of self work. She really learned to love ourselves and the moment that that transformation was complete. She cut off all her hair. So she went from girl who before she used to hide behind her hair extensions, hide behind her makeup, hide behind her jewelry. All of a sudden the, you know, the makeup gets cut in half Harris, super short, and she. Loves herself. It's amazing from the outside how sexy she's becomes a woman. Oh, coerce because she's got that. But it's also funny the people that she used to know the have to make negative comments about her hair being short bed had to take a little digs in. You know what it is. It's not the hair what we were able to come up with. It's like back that she's genuinely happy and they sense it and they fucking hated that. She's broken free from the chains that were keeping her back, and everybody else is still in chains, and they don't want to do the work to unwind themselves because hair extensions don't make you happy dresses. Don't make you happy shoes. Don't make you happy. Your husband doesn't make you happy. Happiness has to come from within people sense that you're really happy or really proud of yourself and you've done the work. They hate it because it makes them uncomfortable in their own skin will. I think this goes back to what you're saying is finding the right people because if you surround yourself with confident, assertive, people like there's no way that a confident assertive. Person who values themselves is going to put her down for that? No. And guess what else you see? Here's the other one that happens. I call it termite terminating. If you ever heard that term. No, maybe I invented it..

"But there's also again, all these negative voices. I mean, when I quit my job being a police officer to move down here, there were a lot of people that said, Bobby, don't throw your life away. Bobby, you're giving up a good job, Bobby wood. If you fail, why are you moving to another country? You're family doesn't live there like the negativity. I got about how I. Was going to fail was overwhelming. Think about a lifetime of that in the effectiveness, how your brain, how did you overcome that? Mentally, because I'm sure some of that. I mean, let's be reasonable. I'm sure some of that to some degree did get to you got inside your head a little bit. I imagine I don't wanna put words in your mouth, but how do you overcome that? Fortunately, work with my sports psychologist guy's name is Brian Kane, if you wanna know where I mean, a lot of the stuff that I've done over the last ten years has been heavily influenced by this man. Was that your original sports psychologist that you fired, and then did you hire him back or is this a different guy? No, that's the same guy. Interesting. Okay. And he taught me a ton and really humble guy, really, really good person really knows his stuff. The thing he taught me was the ten words that were ruined your life or what will other people say, and what will other people think. And I had to work at blocking negative voices out to the point where one of the exercises he had. Me do was sit in a corner in repeat over and over again. I don't give a damn. I don't give a damn. I don't give a damn. I believed that shit. Yes. And that's a challenge because obviously most most of us do to varying degrees, but man Ag is a challenge not to care what other people think about you. Yup, but it ruins you. And so if you think of a lifetime negatively, there's governor there. So we have these self imposed limitations while physically it's a little bit different pain is a governor art and you push yourself, you're paying. That's a one well, and I imagine it's hard because if it's acute enough pain or severe enough, it might actually be signalling to yourself that there's an injury you ought to be aware of versus this is paying this just making you feel a little uncomfortable and you've gotta work passionate? Yup. In uncomfortable mean discomfort, I guess not uncovered or chose you what? A thirty thousand dollar English degree. Often. Some some discomfort will shut people down. How do you know in your mind? What's just going to be uncomfortable and what is a potential red flag you ought to be aware of or do you just intrinsically? No. Does do people already know that? I think people intrinsically no, and people that say they don't know or full of shit, you know when you're hurt or injured? Yeah, I agree with that. You kinda quit on me one day in the gym in McKay Ryan. What's going on? Oh, my knee hurts. How bad desert, like you know, when you've done something versus not done something, you know what I mean? I'm so your heart's racing a little fast. You feel some acidity near muscles in your legs burn. You're clearly not hurt, not injured, not injured, right, right. You might be hurting but you're not injured. You know, it's also funny about this is the other day there's a mountain. I'm looking at it right now just outside of my window and a couple of months ago, I decided to start doing some trail running. And when I started, I could literally get up this little trail about a tenth of a mile because it's pretty steep in some areas without having to stop and walk for a certain distance and just. Yesterday as of this recording, I ran to the top which is about it's just under a mile and a half. I ran to the top without stopping and yet I've been doing it for a couple of months. So obviously there's there's something there for sure built up some muscles or whatever. But I think the other side of it I was thinking about this yesterday is that I had in my mind before I went to the mountain at in my mindset. I'm going to run the entire way..

"Are you talking about you individually or somebody else? What do you mean? No, like you need a guy in your crew that your hype man shower you up, right. It. Yeah, I Fred zips Joe, Joe, I hope you're listening, but man, that guy made me feel good about myself. He would always tell other people in front of me how strong I was a bad ass fighter. I was out good. I was at stopped, UNITA hype, man guy that's gonna promote you. Do you feel that has any negative connotation, like you begin to believe something about you that isn't necessarily true, and in a way, let your guard down. You know what? I actually don't, and here's why we are surrounded by so much negativities days and listen, here's what really bugs me. Why can't I be proud of what I do the minute. You have the nerve to say that you have a good podcast. Guess what people do they call sure hockey, Eric? Yes. Jealous. Like there was a thing with LeBron James every year he was been asked, should you be the MVP and his answers. Always, I'm just proud to be nominated with the other great basketball players and you want people do they shit on him for that course this year he was asked, should he be MVP? And he goes, I vote for myself. But he goes, I've been the best player in the league for Kenya's. I would vote for myself. I played more minutes than anybody. I score more than anybody I built for me. And then you had this whole group of people that were like blown away, like, how can you say this? Yeah, we'll what's LeBron James supposed to say it's suck at basketball, right? It's he's one of the ultimate competitors yet. You don't want. He doesn't want to be a loser. That's not his ambition. So yeah, he should be in a position where he feels confident voting for himself. Well, the other thing is I've been in position as a fighter when people find out I was in the USC they have all kinds of questions. Someone says, you think you're pretty good at fighting, right? How the hell am I supposed to answer that? If I say no, I sucked. They think I'm being an asshole. If I say, yeah, it was a really good fighter. I'm being cocky, arrogant prick. I don't get it. It's because people are really uncomfortable when you're proud of yourself for something you've accomplished. So what you're saying is there's enough negativity out there that you don't need to worry about having negativity around you to keep you humble because it's going to happen anyways. I want as much positive shit around me as I can get. Yeah, that makes sense. Because that's going to build me up because like I said, people with try to tear me down at any opportunity. Yeah, that's a great point. Two great perspective. What do you mean when you talk about killing your governor? Because this is one of the things that you're talking about as well, and you know, overcoming some of the challenges that you might face. What are you referring to when you say that? Really what? It comes down to a self imposed limitations. We have this internal shutoff where we don't really believe or we don't think we can do something. There's there's actually a psychological and physical component to this. The psychological component is. Self imposed limitations where you're governors or something in your brain right now, Ryan that's telling you you will never get over. Fifty thousand followers on Instagram, but when why do we do that? Is that to keep us safe in some form or or or what is it? It's multifaceted. I mean, if I could figure out the answer to that, I probably wouldn't be doing what I'm doing. I will be Egion at Harvard or Oxford or Yale or something like that. But the reality is, I think it self protection because that way we can never be scared of fail. Emmett, we're scared of failing. So if you put some out there and you believe it and you don't get it, it's really disappointing. So there's a self protection mechanism there for sure..

"I mean, that's just one facet of it, but you could take. The podcasting of the business world or relationships, and it's a hundred percent. True. I think a lot of people believe that's up in the sky and kind of Wu and that there's no real tangible benefit of that. But man, it's proven time and time again to be true what yet and this is going to be a shameless plug I both. But if you're lacking motivation, listened to an order of man podcast and then go to Bobby Maximus, Instagram, get your motivation, build your community and then inspire yourself to be better. Yeah, hundred percent cuts your somebody. Frankly. I mean, I'm from town eighteen hundred people. If the world was like it was twenty years ago, I would have never heard of you would ever connected. I mean, shit. I didn't have Email twenty years ago. Yeah. Yeah, Slyke yet. You kinda got stuck with what you had not like anymore. You have a whole people talk about the evils of social media, and I could talk about that for days about negativity and trolls and haters. All this stuff. But the reality is, I think there's more positive than good. I think there is. I agree with that. I think it's it's infinitely easier to focus on the negativity. You know, you can get one hundred comments on Instagram, for example, and ninety. Eight of them will be positive and supportive enough lifting. And then you're focused on the two and responding back and having conversations with two eight holes that you shouldn't be engaged with all shit. I'm bad for that. Like I've got a group of people that really dislike me. It's funny because my my whole thing is number one, if you dislike me so much, why are you keeping tabs on? Yeah, interesting, right. You've got fans that pretend to hate you. You know, I mean, here's the reality. If I hate what you do, Ryan, I can block you from my life very easily. So why I go to your page every day and look up what you do, something's off their Dami. Yeah, don't that's warp for sure. Number two. Why am I gonna take time out of my gate to make a comment or to get involved in. This kind of stuff. I obviously care a lot and they always say there's been lying between love and hate. What's the real issue here? You hate me or do you love me? What is it? Because it seems from my side of the fence that you love me enough that you're investing it. Yeah. Yeah, you're you're investing time and energy into the relationship. That's true. That's a good point. Yup, that's exactly it. And so those are some of the negatives and listen I can get. I can go on for this for gays by a group of people right now, and I suspect to they are, but they make fake accounts in fake Email addresses in comments up. And here's the other thing with that even if I don't like you in even if I don't like what you have to say, just be yourself, like put a comment under Ryan Michelin and say, hey, dude, I hate what you stand for. At least you're being a man about it like you guys always talk. What is to be a man, at least you're standing on your own two feet and giving your opinion. Yeah. Yeah. Like what you're going to go and make a. A fake Email and fake Instagram account trying to hurt my feelings. That's pretty sad. Yeah, it's it's interesting. I mean, it's it's really sad how much we get consumed in other people's lives. Like, imagine if we put that much emphasis on our own lives as opposed to other people's lives. And that's, that's another thing, right? We always blame others and there's also this, this is something else I've been going off on lately. There is this movement in society that whenever you have a problem, you blame other people and when any one else is successful in -ccomplish is something you didn't. You've got devalue their success by putting some excuse around it. You know why LeBron James is better at basketball than you, it's because he had a better coach IMI. He's on steroids, it's because he just was given some genetic gifts that you were given. It has nothing to do with the fact that the guys played basketball ten hours a day for his entire life going to be right..

"So that always taught me that moment taught me anyone is capable of anything if they want something bad enough and they have the right would all internal or external motivation will. Let's break that down because I think it's really easy. In fact, anybody who's listening to this podcast for any amount of time is heard me say, or anybody else say that, oh, you just have to have your y or you just have to know the reason behind it and everything else will fall into place. And yet I talk with people every day who say, you know, I've got my kids to me that's a strong y, and yet they aren't able to bridge that gap between what they know they should be doing and what they're actually doing. So break this down a little further for me. Okay. So internal motivation is something that you generally want or genuinely want for yourself in? It's something intrinsic. I can't tell you why I wanted to be one of the best fighters in the world. I just really wanted to, and it made me feel good in those can be powerful drivers for people. I feel that way. One of the reasons why I'm so fit is because I love being fit. The gym has always been my anchor. It's the one place that I have where I'm in complete control over. I can be the best husband in the world, and my marriage could fall apart. I could be the best guide in the world in my kids could turn out horrible. I could work as hard as I could in my business could fail because of factors that are beyond my control. The reality with the gym is of I show up every day and work hard. Good things will happen in no one can ever take that away from me. So it's very intrinsically or internally motivating, I genuinely love it. External motivators. On the other hand, are things. Like money success, apprise, think of, have you seen the show the biggest loser? Sure. So think of the biggest loser house while there's a lot of external motivation Mon positive, negative, positive. If you win, you get a quarter of a million dollars, right? If you lose your your, there's some sense of shame on TV I guess, right in front of everybody at you. Put yourself out there and you didn't. You didn't succeed. So there's very powerful internal and external motivators and usually what people need to get better because people inherently aren't any transit cly motivated to be fit. It's not high on people's lists. I'm assuming that these are different levels like external motivation isn't bad if it's producing the result corral exact, but then the deeper level would be this intrinsic can. Can you make in bridge the gap between being externally motivated and internally motivated in? Do you even need to, you know. I think that's a nature nurture question. Why was Eric Clapton or Eddie van Halen drawn to play the guitar? I have no idea. Why is my son drawn to working out? Is it because I work out so much? Is it because it's all he's ever known him. He was in a gym. Both kids have been in a gym since they've been diapers. Sure. So I think there is some genetic component to it where you just love what you love. You know, my nine year old son said to me and my wife the other day he goes, I really wanna take violin lessons, and I was like, where did that random? Right? That's some that he didn't come from me. I'll tell you that some internal driver there..

"But do you have any suggestions or thoughts or insights that go a little deeper than the surface level as to why we are looking for the easy route and easy solution? I think a lot of people today are coddled Inc were raising us society, children that everybody's a winner and everybody gets a chance. And I've also noticed that we live in a society where an there's a fine line here. I don't think troll. People on Instagram is okay. And I don't think being being to a person for no reason is okay. Also live in a society where we placate others. Yeah, Yeah. I don't think you have to be mean in order to have a disagreement. No, and we always make by placate others. We make excuses for other people's behavior. Whatever happened to the days when you could just call an asshole, an asshole. Right. NatWest's while somebody has a problem. Yeah. What about their feelings or what about their background or will what about it? They've still decided to respond to certain way is not beneficial for them or anybody else or dealing with exactly. And you hear excuses made for people all the time and it used to never be like that. What's interesting coming from because you have a major in psychology as well. So not only do you have the fitness side and the physique in check obviously, but you've got the mindset component place to yet informed for that. My dogs go crazy for a minute, but probably FedEx site the door, something like that. They go nuts. I'm not dog trainer in the world to see you guys there. No Mike Britain. We have a with another show. So if you guys wanna dog trainer, go back and listen to that show because really good. In fact, I'll give you an introduction to, but I'll check it out. But back to your question about the psychology, I really think the psychology aspect has helped me more in terms of being a good trainer. Good coach in any other area of my life. Yeah, it seems like once you get that in check, I'm not going to say everything else is easier, but I think it ties everything else together. Whoa, the reality is training is easy. At the end of the day, you're just picking shit up and putting it down there. Simple. Right? Very simple. Yeah. I mean, I'm gonna guess maybe there's some people listening out there that were Olympic champions. Maybe there's some people that are you don't professional basketball players or or professional football players, things like that, where fitness really does matter, you're at the top of your your your game..

"Next, it's your regular reminder to take things with a grain of salt. In this case, we hear all the time that self driving cars will actually be on our roads in just a matter of two or three years tops. But as I regularly hear from my friends in the automotive industry and not just those with an ax to grind, maybe not so fast. I wanna point you to a piece in the verge which throws a lot of cold water on the self driving car Maximus, and echoes a lot of what I've been hearing from people that are a little sceptical of self driving technology in this case, because as the verge points out AI systems maybe just aren't quite there yet quoting from the piece, but the dream of fully autonomous car may be further than we realize there's growing concern among a experts that it may be years if not decades before self-driving systems can reliably avoid accidents as self trained systems grapple with the. Chaos of the real world experts like NYU's. Gary Marcus are bracing for a painful recalibration in expectations. A correction sometimes called the winter that delay could have disastrous consequences for companies banking on self, driving technology, putting full autonomy out of reach for an entire generation and quote, by the way, I'm not coming down on this in either direction. I have no skin in this game. I'm just pointing out that for all the hoopla one should always watch out for vaporware. It's worth reading the piece to weigh the probabilities for yourself. Of course.
