"Know. I don't do like i. Don't meet a lotta people who one hundred and three shorts with variety. I can't. I can't beat those people. You know some not to say that there's other people again like i'm not. I'm not the richest guy i know. I'm not the guy making all the money. I know there's people with more followers than me of course But it it sort of. I don't know like like i just really have the desire but you know. Sometimes we're also seeing generational they like people don't like the guy who works really hard a lot of people find that intimidating and they don't want to hire that guy i. I'm sure i've missed out on jobs here. And there where people were were too afraid of of working with a guy who's like i'll take over you know. I have no problem doing that. And so a lot of people feel you know. I guess a lot of people feel challenge in that sense. They feel awkward and all that stuff. And that's just not the hollywood that i witnessed growing up where you're afraid to. That's another big thing. People are so afraid to work with strangers. People are so people feel like they have to be friends to work with people. What is that. it's so many times like like i. I hid up so many people. I i didn't know at all i hit up a guy who produced for missy elliott. You know a couple years ago and to to score a piece of my game. And i worked with him. I didn't know him at all. But now i do and you know. Is it awkward to work with people the first time when you don't know him. Yeah sure but you know. That's what separates the separate the men from the let's say have tried linked in. Are you on lincoln for guys aids. It's not really it's not a bad place. it's a good place to make connect. I'll tell you you could easily as as as you max. Field making connection as cinematographer director. It's a place you'll see. So i mean it doesn't take the effort is put your your thing up there and check it out and make connections. 'cause i've met some pretty interesting people that way and connections do come that way. It's it's a free resource and you don't have to pay for it. You can get the premium package and stuff but it's a way it's another way.

"You're trying to help them. Strive for their It's because i know they will take over my position it. It's it's sort of you know like some people say. Oh that's very very arrogant stuff but it. It's just look i've met. I've met thousands of people all trying to do this. do that. Whatever and it gets to a point where okay. I am different okay. There is something that sets me apart and you know a lot of people. A lot of people are really scared of verbalize themselves because they're afraid of the criticism that comes with that. I i don't really care Because you know if. I know that i'm busting my ass. That's all matters if i know that i'm working as hard as i possibly could. That's all that matters and so it becomes a thing. Where again i'm not. It's it's really hard to find multi talented people. When i'm hiring people like i don't know how to program. It's really hard to find a programmer. Do just you know it has problem solving ability and will consistently show up. That's really hard to find. It's really hard to find an artist who can do a certain art style and can show up for a decent amount of money and bang out one hundred drawings. You know like stuff like this like and so and so what i do. I do sound design. I do. I do writing i do. You know all this stuff that know. Sorta gives me a footing. Where if i'm doing enough jobs. I can just pretty much say okay. I'm the director too. I don't meet people that can do multiple things and it's it's like a thing where and you know the the big thing is some people more successful than you because they have connections and so would you take those things. Would you say that those people don't exist or those people exist but they're not willing to put in that work at all they. They have those raw talents. They have those skills they can program they can draw but they're not willing to sit down. I was watching a drawing yesterday with my son. And then the guys is just draw. Keep dry keep doodling. Doing you gotta keep doing it. And people are not willing to put that work in you. What i appreciate you above. You is the work ethic that you have. I think that's the core of what what drives you is your willingness to work and not all people have that most people don't have the level. Yeah no kid and they will do it for survival. Some people work to survive. But they don't have that level to succeed and to excel.

"Thank you therapists disagree. But that's how he likes therapist. I mean well no see. It's interesting because a couple years ago. I was getting really into psychology and i was trying to talk to you not therapists psychologists and. I was trying to talk to them. You know people that i knew through university connections and i'll try to talk to them about motivating other people because that's huge. You think about michael jordan. The thing they said is he made everyone around them. Better house trying to learn. Is you know it might seem a tad manipulative. But i was trying to see. How do i manage talent. How do i get people to do the right thing for them. And do the right thing for the greater good of the group you know and and and you look into a lot of that but on and so i would say some theories. Sometimes they confirm them sometimes. They deny like. I talked to professors to verify of my ass. I go to people and talk and ask before. I say things publicly and one time mistake before. I got the psychologists connection. I talked with therapists and i was like. Hey i'll give you fifty bucks fifty bucks. Just don't talk to me like a patient. Just i'm i have these questions about how the human mind works. Talk to me immediately. They're in their playbook. Oh how does that make you feel. I'm like i'm asking you like you know as that whole thing where it's like it's like dude just like don't talk like and i knew what she was doing. You know but one thing. I said to me was remember therapists aren't doctors. Therapists are not scientists so that was a big thing but now but now this lady she was trying to say. Oh this is wrong with you. you know There is we had a big disagreement. On what makes a human being mowder and and she's like oh so so. You work so hard like i work hard because that's what you have to do like you've got to work. We've been working since the beginning of time. And like i say to her. I'm like some guy who you know just like lives office. Parent's money sits in bed all day. Playing video games consuming consuming consuming consuming not doing anything. Not impacting anyone else's life like i'm sorry explain to me how he matters explained to me. You know and so. Because i'm busting my ass here trying to do this. You're trying to tell me that this guy's on the same level of me like sorry and that's where the competitive sorta thing comes out and a lot of people consider that screwed up. But i'm just like dude like i'm busting my ass and you're gonna tell me. Oh yeah he's just as good as you know sorry like is not how it works to me anyway and so yeah i think as a good director because that's like a manager right is in my wrong in a kind of standing. What director does but that'd be similar to business manager of sorts.

"You have to have short term memory loss of all the bad stuff and you gotta keep on An end but the thing is was unique about me is there are a lot of guys. Who are you know. Writer director people. It's it's hard to find a writer director guy who knows more about the technical end of cinema and that sorta that's was able to separate myself and really you know and be able to make high quality content and be able to teach others is because i just wanted to learn all filmmaking like so you want to be a director you know it's not just open learn how to write and direct in like think scenes and all that i ll word every part of the process. Another part is like never thinking. You're above learning something never thinking you know so i wanted to learn. How do they do audio. I wanted to learn. What kind of lights are they using. Not even how do i light something. What kind of lights are they using. That was impossible to figure out. You know five years ago because there wasn't like a million youtube videos on it you know how they are not five years say more like seven years ago but there is a million i was trying to light stands. Do they use. What's the real stuff. How do we get over headlights. What's a speed rail. What's you know you know. What our sandbags for apple box. How do we get a camera. Angled low how to. How do they get the camera to move so smoothly. How do they How do they make that. That live right here. Some of them might ask. How does he get the light to look like that. You know like just just all this stuff and a lot of it is it's kind of like mock apprenticeship where I got to knowing how to find the information yourself. I'd say that's another big skill but in terms of what i'm trying to figure out i don't know like it's it's it's been such a grind and you start you know so many people tell you you're ready you're ready over and over and over again to the point where it's like you know. I know there's still a lot. I don't know but it's it's trying to get to that level in two thousand sixteen all i knew how to do maybe shoot with dsl. Lar- use a couple led lights kinda kinda. Okay kinda lame. It wasn't so great..

"You may not have used dreamer goal but your aspiration is to direct your own feature film. Would that be accurate to an extent. And i do it here and there little bits like i'm producing a video game right now. That's the length of two feature films But still not you know. It's not that shooting. You know it's not. It's not what i wanna do. Which is you know like the classic american film. I wanna make you wanna make the next not even like not even like citizen kane. Like i'm not really into that stuff. Like i'm into like josie and the pussycats account two thousand and one. I love that movie. You know i. I like not another teen movie like i like. I like all the stuff that was on comedy. Central that everyone said. Oh yeah it sucks but me and my friends. We watch and we're like do this. Great you know blake and you know like you know. Kevin smith movies and spike lee movies. You know stuff like that stuff into so. What does this look like you. What does this look like for you to be where you are now and to be young too. You know you're exercising. You're working out on the side. You're doing all that you need to do to gain that experience to gain the knowledge you say. You're not an expert but you're driving to be. What does that process. Look like for you to get to the opportunity to direct your own feature film in. What are you doing to attain that Talking with an investor in singapore. Right now i might get some good money to do an animated pilot Doing animations okay. Because i sure as hell there's no way we can get the money together to live action pilot because god is too much money and too much organizing and hotels and all that but you know through doing that work it you know it gone my talents out there and so you would meet people who meet through the youtube one time. I didn't animated pilot for someone that paid. You know a couple of thousand dollars. They put it up Wherever they were trying to shop at the net flicks you know But the reality is that everybody needs a big break. Everybody needs a lucky break. You know that that's just of how it goes and you're waiting for that one connection the you know you have a network of people if one of them gets a tv deal. I know that they're gonna call me to do audio. I know that they're going to to write jokes. They might call me to act you know. and so. that's a big thing like creating this this tightly woven web of people you see okay if one of us take off raw gonna take off and Need out it's sort of..

"But i wasn't really doing as much as i did when i was in middle school and then and then one day I was in. I think it was in marketing class a senior year. So so this is what maybe three or four years later and they're like everybody has to a movie trailer and so You know like everyone else. Marketing is a kind of a big slack off classic. Nobody really cares. And so everyone's like. Oh i don't know and i was like okay. I'll do it because no one else is gonna fuck so so i do it. We we shoot it. I go home. I take into edit. 'cause i had like real editing software. 'cause you know back in middle school so i take. It edited every other kids thing is trash. And i was the only person who actually showed up with like something that really resemble the movie trailer. And so you know you know. I didn't really care about seventeen. I was disinterested in everything. You know. Depression all this. And so i m i specifically remember. The marketing teacher was like he's like do you view videos like is that what you do. Is that what you wanna do for money. And i looked at my and said. I'll do anything for money and so they're like. Oh you shouldn't say that a you know so that that's what i saw was that but zip you mean they're saying you shouldn't say that but but seriously i will do whatever but us so So you know. I sort of took that and then It just got to a point where you know. It's it's one of those things where Okay every kid is just sort of brainwashed into thinking. Oh will you need to go to college and so on eighteen now. And i'm like okay. I guess i'll do the the media degree like my dad didn't really care like what he's just going to college so so i do that. And that mentality is screwing over so many kids today. At least in america i don't know how korea's by so okay so but yeah not so..

"I made money was And this was before video. Game collecting was huge. You know after twenty fourteen kind of boomed but In you know own nine two thousand ten i would. I would go up to kids in school and you know like the old nintendo sixty four's and stuff like that. I go up to him and i be you know and these kids you know. They want money for pot. Or whatever. So i go up to him and i'm like hey you got in sixty four with all the games i'll give you twenty bucks for it and they would like try to like you asked me like twenty five. I'm like okay twenty five and so they show up with a duffel bag and sixty four ten games. I flipped out for one hundred dollars on ebay. And so great is right. That's what this is the idea of. What starts you. What gets you going and some people think. Oh my my professional career job. It wasn't until i was twenty five. Starting know what was the thing that started you when you were a kid and what really got your your juices flowing. I mean so it's weird. It's the concept of. I mean how do i put it the concept like you said the value of a dollar. That was that was instilled Since maybe eleven my dad would always show me. He had a a couple of basketball cards and baseball cards. And he showed me and they were in the top loader. You know the hard plastic. And that's another thing i do like. So for instance hear like you see how the card is in the plastic there and to sleep in itself to yet pennies. Leave you and so like this is probably like maybe two thousand four might dad showing me this and he was like. Oh yeah this is worth a lot of money. Because i kept it and the reality is it was. It was a michael jordan basic car. Not a rookie. Not auto not not anything. So it worth a dollar but i you know like you..

"Matter where they show up and you can expect you know everywhere from talked about him to come out of this in in a put up a good performance next time. I'll now moving onto the final graded stakes from Churchill this weekend. That that's of course the Matt Win in that featured the return of the winner of the British thirty last year Max Field and. They're relax questions about him going into this race. How would the layoff affect him? How he come back off the injury and he answered all those questions with flying colors this week and with the trip that he had and the all the problems that arose from him He the only horse that was wider than him was major fed and we were very high on major fed going into this race but major fed as wide is he was he ran last so with. Max Field just being a little bit farther inside than him and for him to win the race. The way he did that speaks volume to him Again this is a very deep thrilled crop even with losing even with losing doll earlier today. It's still very tough three-year-old crop but even Even if Nador had still stuck around Max field would have been definitely one of the horses. It's at the top of this crop. There's not many that are better than Max field. Not many horses are supposed to come off. Not many horses should do what Max Field did coming off a layoff of what he did so the fact that he did what he did. This weekend was remarkable. And there's some big things in the future for the source whether they decide to go to the bluegrass or whether they decide to take a shot and over the Belmont remains to be seen. But whatever they do max field is definitely one of the worst. It should definitely be on the radar for the Kentucky. Derby.

Moore's second enforceable third. The rest are far back Max. Field Rep taking rod at the top of the stretch Hicks clear by six Max field to win the flavor and readers feature at a four Jose Ortiz. Welcome back to the equine form presented all month long by FAR PAINT DOT COM. Mike Penner with you from my home studio my producer. Lee Dela Pena is in our primary studio in the heart of the Bluegrass Lexington Kentucky and happy to have you back with me as Kurt. Becker brought him home with the call of the breeders futurity at Keeneland last October. And Max `field remaining perfect to for two and breathtaking was the word that Kurt used in the call and I think that's appropriate because this son of Darley Stallion Street sense has been nothing short of remarkable and everybody has been anxiously awaiting the return of maccesfield since he had to scratch prior to the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita this past fall. I know nobody anticipating this return more than Jimmy Bell. The president of Godolphin's US operations and he is with me now. Here on the Horse. Racing Radio Network Jimmy. Good morning my friend more and Mike. How're you doing? I'm doing well excited to see McAfee back in action later today value. I think quite a few others and I almost wanted to replay. That stretch called the of the flavoring beers dirty. Again that that It was breathtaking. And your juices flowing again anticipation. And that's certainly what we've been doing for quite a while but Days here we couldn't be more excited as I was listening to. Kurt's call coming out of the break I could. I could envision that move that Max `field made in that race and just sweeping by horses like they were tied to oppose Jimmy But impressed you most about field that day at keeneland well you know again In both the first two starts you know. He's a little tardy leaving the gate. And you Kinda your heart rate drops a little bit when you see him leave the gate. They go boy. You know in this grade one race like that. It's a little hard to make up all that kind of distance as you. Well know it's a short run to the finish line of Sixteenth poll. So a lot of times when you come out of that turned. You better better paid your spots. And the movie made beginning from the three eighths pole to the to the Top of the stretch and straightened away really was breathtaking. You don't see many horses that can truly circle field like that and just you know switch leads and draw the way did so Yeah it makes you makes you dream a little bit and and that was a legitimate grade. One performance yet. A Horse that Godolphin Brad. Obviously as I mentioned by street sense who stands at Darley here in in Lexington out of Bernardini mayor of Velvety. Tell me a little bit about the pedigree and the way this meeting came together from Max Field. Well as you know it really goes a little deeper than that it's you know. Velvety Miracle. Caress cat was a fantastic foundation. Mayor of the great harborview breeding and racing operation and You know as as you just mentioned Bernardini's got to be an unbelievable broodmare sire. And here you see at once again. You know his his Probably one of the youngest SARS that have soured as many grade. One winner says he's done so phenomenal breeding obviously on the bottom side and and straight senses certainly made his own noise as as a Siren. And we really really hopeful. That Max build is a type of horseshoe dream out that you always loved to see A young son of one of your stallions not only do well but nowhere. He's GonNa end up to yeah. We were all disappointed. We didn't get to see him strut his stuff in the Breeders Cup at Santa. Anita I told Brennan Walsh's trainer after the race that maybe that was a bit of a blessing in disguise. I in some respects because he could look forward to the first Saturday in May of course. Now it'll be the first Saturday in September but tell me about what these past few months have been like for Max `field sense scratching from Santa Anita Breeders Cup. Well you know you're exactly right. My you know you remember talking about it out the Breeders Cup and you know you always like to think. Perhaps there's there's there's the silver lining to this pretty dark cloud at the moment. And that's that sounds good philosophically speaking but Obviously a great disappointment At the time but it was never even a question mark as to what we're going to do and and Giving that time off and you know had that little ship removed it's given brandon all the time in the world to bring a horse along that that needed time you know. We always said he would does a two year old. Be a bonus because just he's a very much Is Our big tall or the likey immature looking but very balanced two year old? But you would envision what he might look like when he really hit that growing spurt until now is a three year old and and this time off You know to his advantage to the first four five months of the year. He's developed so much in filled out especially through his hand and got so much stronger and You know he's always had a phenomenal. Mental approach mental attitude. He's he's that's probably one of the greatest attribute mental toughness but the ability in time to really develop physically probably been the biggest key to where he is today and We really are. I don't know if you seem seeing on video. That was in the T and but he's certainly filled out the way we had hoped and He's a proper looking three-year-old. Obviously Jimmy you WANNA see him win today and you WanNa see him remain undefeated but I know. There's bigger goals up the road. So what are you going to be looking for when Max deal goes to the post later today? Well let's You know while while we're grateful to have all this time to sort of develop and catch up now. What he's done in the morning has been so pleasing every time. He's very willing very generous in the morning shuts off just like that when he comes off the track all the signs you WanNa see. He displays But let's be honest. He has run since Breeder Futurity at Cayman last October and He's stepping against very battle-tested horses that have all had at least three races this year. So that that's a question mark but you know. I think he's that type. Of course that doesn't need a lot of practice runs. Obviously you could tell his two year old career Surprisingly in his first race that he was able to get the job done there so I think that he's got the added benefit of a very good mind and I think that's probably going to be as big a factor as you come back and sort of not always stick your toe in the water. But you know you're probably get right to do some swimming here so I think he's physically ready. I think he's always had the mental capacity. And you know you just hope that The time off. There isn't too much rust. They're men and I just I. I have a feeling that he's ready to perform so again. You know it's rare that you're going to sit here and say you have no excuses but today we have. No excuses might have something later this afternoon but we're just very fortunate to be in a position where are both physically and mentally talking with Jimmy. Bell here on the Horse Racing Radio Network President of Godolphin's US operations. Jimmy let me go out on a limb here and say that if Max field doesn't win the grade three met wind today. You'd be okay with number one mystic. Get getting the victory the other one racing in royal blue. Well that's an interesting conversation. Actually Misty God missed a got. Is You know his his Got A lot of attention and breaking his maiden. I don't know if you're sheep follow or not but You know both have very very similar. Sheep numbers in their first starts. Their second starts In breaking his maintenance the second start going to turns misty guy got got an eight. I believe eight on the sheets and And and when Mexico won the breeders thirty guys seven three quarter. So you know they`re. They're both shown phenomenal ability. But what we really didn't WANNA do Is have to run each other run against each other again so early in the year as well. So the entry of Mr Guide into this race was an was a last resort Mike stem is a very conservative guy by nature not wanted to really just want to break your maintenance jump into deep in but you know we all had to. Kinda shuffle a deck here and and with racing on hold and so many places. They're just this was really the only opportunity to run at that time since then. Belmont came out with their book. There's a nice allowance race on June fourth going and sixteen amount eighth. I believe. And that's really what we prefer to do. Some misty guide now the race to point towards. We're running the allowance race. Belmont and and These won't see each other all right. Well there you go you're have mystic get and Max `field not going to match up here today but How about arms in the in stakes? Another godolphin runner been brilliant undefeated. Now she has to take on sharing he returns after winning the Breeder's cup juvenile fillies turf. Tell me a little bit about arms. Well it's hard to improve off a four for four so she's one of those you know. We started sprinting. In the first two races and then stretched out to a mile and and Senator to California Jimmy around at del Mar and you know she won that very impressively When you go when you go three for three and want to give her every opportunity. Winter gave her a little rice down. Fairgrounds in anticipation of some big races. King them back up in New York so again like everybody Mike. You know we've had to kind of reshuffle the deck and You know again. There's so many top horses ready to run with nowhere to go. And now when you have some racing dope enough you you look up here and you say GonNa run against the Beers Cup. Beautiful winner here In your first start you know of this season. So a tall order. Graham's got a great philly and sharing Eddie Canal. He's got a nice feeling there as well as done nothing wrong. And unfortunately you know we're in the fourteen hole there but No this really has shown nothing but class and everything she's done so This is a jump in the deep end. But we're going to know what we have come out of this race today..

"I'm guessing you've heard of the Kentucky Derby Abi to this race that's run usually early in May we haven't yet talked about the Kentucky Derby this year but that's about to change as we're finally starting to get into rounds of prep races that will winnow the field down to twenty for the run for the roses on May the second so to help us do that. We bring in voice. We haven't heard on this show for too long and and that's Jonathan Listener who writes for horse racing nation. Welcome back Jonathan. So before we get into a few specific horses. WHO's impressed you the most so far on the triple triple crown trail? I think Dennis moment to start the list. Dentists moment strikes to lead right at the top of the stretch at Delta. Two lanes lead our three lately for the final final furlong. Dennis this moment with five length lead scabbard with clear sailing up the second but Dennis moment kicks off the road at the Kentucky Derby in a big way. He barely moved a muscle. That we we have it. RESTRAINING NATION DOT COM user generated Kentucky Derby contender rankings and despite his trouble that experience career dentist moment has not left that number. One spot. You talking about a grade three winner. Who was going to be the favourite the Breeders Cup Juvenile L. Stumbles out of the gate? You know he could be undefeated if you look back at his debut he lost his jockey was really no fault zone so he has the two losses and between between them. He's sandwich to really really nice. Looking victories including his debut at Ellis Park they won by like nineteen and a quarter lengths. I think it was so there's a lot of potential there and he's one that I feel like every once in a while you hear about a derby prospect before they make their debut and then we kind of latch onto them I wanna say it was probably roadster roadster last year because Baffert said he could be his next justify American Farrow and obviously it didn't work out there but they'll Romans has talked up Dennis's moment since before he he ran a race. And so we're we're kind of going to the same thing here As far as a couple of other runners eight rings also out of the Breeder's cup juvenile. He's a really interesting. One didn't really run his race. You know the last time we saw him but I think the way he's going to be handled this season. You have to keep paying attention trained by Bob Baffert. He's he's GonNa run him in the rebel at Oaklawn. And then the Arkansas Derby potentially there as well and then another one that you know kind of on the fence about that you know. He's got a lot of towns. Is Max `field scratched from the Breeders Cup Juvenile. He had a little bit of an issue. There it turns out we found out a couple of weeks after that that he had had a minor surgery for a bone chip. But he's not even in serious training now. Well he's he's he's apparently galloping No works yet and so I think they'll have to do the to A. Ah kind of schedule where you hope to get race out of them and then you have a more serious race which I would expect to be something like the blue grass stakes if everything works out well and he's undeniable town. I'm and I think he's GonNa win a major race somewhere down the road. I don't know if it's going to be the Kentucky Derby and then the other one I feel like it's gotten all the conversation is independence hall at at Independence Hall now makes his move. Independence Hall is the leader getting away to lead by two prints of Pharaohs has moved up on the outside. It's Bourbon Bay Independence All L. linked and a half as they come for the quarto prints of Pharaohs on the outside Bourbon Bay. It is independence hall with the lead and now a furlong to the finish Jose Ortiz showing them the whip now goes to work on independence hall. WHO has a three likely? Just a sixteen to the finish at. It's the constitution called Independence Hall. Tailwind Jerome by four Knights won the national stakes by open links came back and won the jerome. It was a little more workmanlike. But he's going to go. Oh into the new year here as another one of the favorites and if I could talk about one more that has sort of attracted my attention a little bit. It's this ancient warrior horse. I don't know what his path is going to look like. He's Jerry Hall android or for trainee. And if you follow racing at all the last year or so. You'll know that. He's SORTA become embattled. Dan from the strike. Group's tracks out in California But I of all these horses that have won maiden races and we'll be going to the stakes. I want to watch that one closely. He's moved him over to Oakland Park. We should see him in an allowance. Race coming up at the beginning of February and then from then on he should be on the Derby trail else. That's one that that I definitely want to see more of well. You mentioned Bob Baffert. And it's tough to talk about the Kentucky Derby Trail Without Bob Baffert and he has a lot more than the one you mentioned. There's thousand words who ran a big race in the low sal futurity. I'm a Roger Federer Fan but you have to give it up for an doll who is also ambassador trainee. Who looked really really good? So I mean you know Bob Baffert certainly knows how to get horses to the Derby mean how many of these prospects aspects of pan out. I see a path for all of them. To be honest. You know and we also have mentioned authentic. It's still authentic coming to the three the eight ball. He's been in control throughout leads by a length and a half to uncaptured hero. It's all authentic as they pass the quarter pole and turned for home authentic and complete Khaliq Command turning it on. He's in front by sex with a furlong left to go. Zimba Warrior and Assault Coast as authentic is putting on a show. Here is a little green gene shifting about but long gone authentic strolls home in the sham. He'll win by about eight lakes green. It's Grafton stretch and just kept going there and another extremely impressive Horse Nidal I. I wonder about him a little bit. You know we've only seen him one time on Sunday and that six and a half for a long race he he looks like Dortmund Ortmann if you go back to two thousand fifteen big horse. That wasn't extremely fast out of the gate but once he got into stride he went straight to the pace and never really let up there. Yeah it's not not really the kind of horse you want to win the Derby but I think you could get to the Derby and then thousand words certainly has every reason to move forward his last race. I think they had probably a little bit the too much blinker on him and he ended up going head to head with that no door that ran in the Breeders Cup juvenile second. I think it's SORTA legitimize both of those horses that they ran so closely in the future. But I think thousand words is probably at least a couple of lengths better then a no door. He just probably didn't see him in the stretch until Flavian Kinda guided him out and it's like Oh with the blinker. The horse realized he had something to run against a win on. So I guess when you talk about horses that I'm looking at in the new year. Thousand Words is definitely on that shortlist list to Jonathan Listener of racing. Nation is with us here on the gate. We've talked a little bit about the Breeders Cup juvenile which was a topsy turvy race. You had three big horses that we've mentioned into all had their problems that day. We haven't talked about the horse. Who Wanted Storm the court for trainer Peter Martin and that would be a very popular win in the racing business? As you know what chance do you give storm the court to back up what he did in the juvenile. Oh probably not much not a lot of black type in the family. I'm not sure if there's any black type from Stanley I'd agree wise. And then you know he was obviously the beneficiary of other horses stumbles in that race You Know He. He goes gate to wire was not really pressed a whole lot and at the same time. I think they took the blinker. They put their blinkers on. I'm sorry and I have not a fan of lemon. That put blinkers was on a horse at that point in their career. I feel like you should be taken them off so that they can relax. Prepare to go a little bit longer. I think that race and the circumstances just all all came together for storm the court and allowed him to upset that race. It's forty five to one. Whatever he ended up that day I'm sort of in agreement? I think with everybody else that the the the better Derby Derby prospect was no door and second in that race going forward. I want to mention because these races have just happened. Enforceable label for Mark Cassie. Who is not missed? A beat after a son norm went out on his own. He had been his father's chief assistant and enforceable. Really good winning the Lecomte. But we haven't seen too many Lecompte winners. Go on to run well in the Kentucky Derby. Where do you put me as a tap it colt out of a dixie union in marriage? The breeding is good. I put him a really high on my list. As far as forces will be in the Derby but I would not put him on my list of forces that I think can win the Derby and I say that because of his running style you know if we go back to almost every year that the point system has been effect and obviously gets rid of those pure your sprinters. It's the horses that can put themselves near the front at the beginning of the race and keep that pace up and never be caught by closers that tend to win the Derby enforceable enforceable is one of those closers. It's inevitable that he's GONNA run into traffic problem you know. I almost hope he sneaks into the Derby and everybody overlooks. Because I feel like he's the kind of horse could come into the super factor. That's probably going to be a really common line of thought. Though I mean I'm thinking a few months out but the soup perfect You know in the era of a favorites winning the Derby is as remain because it's pretty high minimum of really profitable wager for people nonetheless so yeah for me. He's a super effective player. I I I think he's GonNa be okay as the distance is longer obviously is a full brother Mohammed and a half years day. There's a lot there in the pedigree just really impressive on paper and it was good to see him run as well as he did you know He. He broke his maiden at nine furlongs last summer at Saratoga and it looks like okay. Here's a real two year old and I you know he ran into you. Go into a little bit shorter and the breeder security at keeneland and Max field because two things came together and got him beat but he's definitely better horse than he showed that day and it was good to see him back it up the trump
Handicapping the Breeders' Cup
"It is finally here the world championships the Breeders Cup for the thirty six time and for the tenth time at Santa Anita it's time to handicap the world championship hip and for that we bring into our experts one we've had regularly and one for the first time we welcome back Ed Derosa of the brisket handicapping service and for the first time we bring in Molly Joe Rosen we followed her on twitter a lot it's good to finally bring her onto the show so again we said we're not going to handicap all of these races were GonNa pick the seven or so that we think have really good competition and will go with those and we'll start on the Friday card with the juvenile a race that has been diminished a bit with the defection of one of the early favorites Max field for Godolphin so we're really left with three big horses here to talk about Denis's moment the favourite eight rings and Scabbard Dennis's moment has been very consistent through his writer in his debut and then just missed a track record at Ellis Park can you really call a two year old and overwhelming favourite. What do you think here let's start with molly I think it's right open race I could not touch horse at eight to five not as you said not with two year olds you know making third and fourth fifth career starts I mean to me that just is crazy and I love him think he's phenomenally talented could wind up being the second coming of Secretariat obviously he's a freak of nature having won his to really his to start saying oh he's got that through the writer and the debut but you know he's one by twenty one lane I mean you can't knock a horse like that Dale is great with these types of horses he's prepped well he's looked great you know you take nothing away from him but eight to five in a eight Horsfield because not a MAC field scratch I can't touch a horse at eight five I do think it is a really wide open race I'm GonNa look at other horses you know take nothing away from eight rings also a horse who has done nothing wrong also worth who lost a job I do think a horse like scabbard for me is more interesting this is a horse who breaks his maiden by five then steps up and they had some has some learning to do and Eddie neely is great with these types of horses and I think if you're looking for price and you don't WanNa go towards one of the more so obvious sources for me a horse like Scabbard who's on the improve has really done nothing wrong in his career but you know seems to have maybe you have to overcome some some tendencies to find rebel trips of course to me like Scabbard is super intriguing? Ed What do you think well we're we're going to write off the rip because I'm all in on Dennis's moment and he's the only horse I'm using molly Jo Sung as praises appropriately and with the scratch AMAC's field unfortunately is is backers aren't even eight to five now so if that wasn't good enough for you Molly Joe I'm sure you're not gonna be happy with even money or six to five but the this horse You know the maiden win at Alice just blew everyone stores off so what can you say super professional in the Iroquois though defacto second career start I read got a handle for this horse got to test drive them so to speak and we've seen Dale ship out to the who've no at Santa Anita perform well with not this time it was second do horse I had a lot of respect for classic empire so I think he's early the horse to be an in a very competitive Friday car he's my big single day I'm with Molly I think scabbard had some trouble in finishing second today this is moment in the Iraq war and I think it's GonNa come down to those two I'm not discounting Dennis as moment but I think scabbard has to be more seriously considered than five to one lead move to the filly and mare sprint I'm really torn here about cafe when we get to the Saturday card I mean she won the Edgewood and the Miss preakness so maybe I'm not as impressed as other people are by the way she runs ed can she run her race from the rail She can for me either the bigger question and the rail is a question the bigger question is is shipping out west and she is not coming for a bar and that is it's been out there very long Dale with Dennis's moments that we talked about shipped out about a week ago see Asmussen's been there with his crew for seven her week so I am eager to see how horses on Friday to that hadn't chipped in versus the ones that have been there awhile local horses etc if I perceive a bias in that regard that might sway me offer as the favorite I will say on raw talent I absolutely think she is the best filly in this field for test was incredible energy titan or Churchill albeit against lesser was what you would want to see he coming into a race like this offer race like the test so I'm a believer but keeping an open mind and this is one of those cases where I am going to use information as it becomes available throughout the Friday card to see how liberal liberal I wanNA use her on Saturday molly what do you make of come dancing I'm not saying how do they poll she's got two and a Half Lake leaving don the destroyer next toward the inside at third special relativity first half of the year then the second half clearly has talent what do you make of her you know she's obviously you know a a really really lovely horses cool to see Carlos Martin on the big stage I I've known Carlos a real long time and he's just a phenomenal horsemen and She did have you know crazy good first half of the year her her win margins were certainly bigger flashier there was certainly more space there but running second to midnight visa in the VIPs you know other than that she's comeback her ballerina was beautiful her gallant bloom was beautiful I do worry a little bit about whether or not she can run in a straight I'm and that especially at Santa Anita we've seen over the years what was her name the Philly that ran second to beholder in the the distaff I wanNA say executive privilege we've seen horses who may not be able to run in a straight line not get there in time Santa Anita in the past and that concerns me a little bit when you do have other really consistent Phillies in here like FFA ed do you see attention long shot here in this race because I'm not loving come dancing I liked but don't love cafe what about dawn the destroyer will become a from the back and I guess you were saying you gotta see the Friday card to see whether anyone really can close at Santa Anita but what do you think about a long shot here that's actually and afterward oh so is this a matter where if you don't like the two favorites you chuck them and use them all I could see that as a strategy especially if you really where let's move to the turf to the mile not the dirt mile we'll get to the dirt mile let's go to the Turf Mile and here you've got to Phillies the headliners got stormy and Uni but now you've got circus maximus with a real European threat here it's not been the best year for eight and O'Brien really do you trust circus maximus here not in any way shape size or form and not at that price just in case you're wondering if I

Jose Ortiz Interview - October
"Welcoming Jose Ortiz who is a native of Puerto Rico and his one more than nineteen hundred races in what has been just a a stellar career and that career still going strong and he's with me now here on H. R. N. Jose Good Morning My friend Mike give having yeah. Thanks for taking a little time. I know you're a busy working horses. This morning. Never ends does it does not if you want to be the best which right now you certainly are my friend Brendan. You know it's interesting. I mentioned being a native of Puerto Rico one of the jockeys who mentored you when you came here and one of the people that you looked up to is his hall of Famer Johnny Velazquez who last week set the record for most greatest stakes victories by jockey in the history of the sport and that has to make you very proud. I know that yeah yeah we are happy about it and it keeps going throwing you know hopefully he can give winning some more on winning out much again until you know until heater dyers what makes him so good then you got a lot of these. Atlanta for the sport and I think that having taken to the next level where he's been for awhile you know yeah he certainly he's been doing it for a long time and still doing it at a very high level. How many great stakes victories are you behind him now. I don't know I have made the way to go yeah one day well that win yesterday and the Phoenix was impressive. This is a horse. You've you've been on before you knew him. You get back aboard him yesterday and he's able to hold off Whitmore who was putting in that late run. Take me through the race Jose. Well we broke. We broke very good. expect expecting a much faster pace but they did in in came out of five dollars. I thought they would and I was able to be closer than I than I thought. I was going in two weeks so I think that well We have a very pain trip when I ask him to. Well what they're for me the whole time. You know he's a horse worse by intimacy if that when you were riding him last year and even this year at Saratoga he was trained by Chad Brown now he's trained by Steve Asmussen. Ah when you were riding him before he was always knocking on the door but he couldn't quite get past horses like promises fulfilled you yesterday you beat him and everybody everybody else. Is there a difference. Did you feel something different now with engage than you did last year. He always been a ah very nice or worse. I think some more mature before others on. I think he'd take a while but I think he finally figured out you know. Did you know that Moore was gaining on your yesterday. I didn't knew what Whitmore Kabaya fell somebody coming out. You can tell yeah I could yeah. Did you know you had enough left in the tank. He very game he always has been and I knew what GonNa try but you know something this all horrors you know he's just turned four so there's all live orders season and they are very good. You know they they come in. They coming at you like wait Marino. He's very nice or you know that win. In the Phoenix was part of a Multi Win Day on opening day of Keeneland then you you've had several days in your career where you've won multiple races like that. I asked you what makes John Velazquez so good. What makes Jose Ortiz so good. I don't let somebody out of that. Answer that question. I guess right to be myself on gave that horses the best chance to win but you also worked very hard I mentioned you're out working in horses this morning. I know you're being humble and and that's what's part of makes you part of. What makes you so good but Jose you work your tail off and put me the in in the saddle with you for minute if you will if I can use that term take me through like your routine in your approach to riding races. How do you get ready to go out there. Every day and ride was everything star on the when the overnight comes up so I have to see we shorts on on quantum there I go the R F and and they got the raises and I put him whatever I think they should be and you know I have to talk to a trainers on and follow their their instructions but at the same time I want to I want her to be relax and that's that's what I try to be happy and I think they control and relaxed. We'll give you a running the end of it yeah you know. Johnny will always tell tell me about his different plans that he has going into the starting gate the plan a plan b the Plan C. and you hope you don't have to get any further than that but once the gates open you can listen to the trainers instructions all day long but once the gates open things can change quickly right very quickly. What do you you do at that point. Do you say Oh my God. I gotTa follow his instructions or do you say I just gotTa. Let my instincts takeover in and try to ride this race the way it needs to be ridden now so you've got to let your instincts they over because it's very tough to execute a plan when their plan doesn't work from from the gate you know. Yep You gotta change everything so I think you just gotTa Julia uh-huh. Yeah everything you could do everything changes in and you just have to adjust and that's why I've always said you know jockeys in terms of there's always that debate are jockeys true athletes athletes and I think you know I've said for years but pound for pound jockeys the most gifted athletes that we find in all sports and I have no doubt about it and you're certainly right there Jose. Let's talk about the horses that you're going to be aboard today. You're in all of the great stakes races at keeneland which is to be expected matter of fact. Thank you might be riding every single race at keeneland today. nice to be in demand extravagant. Kid is a horse. You're going to be aboard in the WOODFORD stakes. That's is the first greatest stakes today. What can you tell me about. Extravagant kid very nice hard. I had the opportunity to ride him. One time before and we won he's doing very good very fox. Horse doesn't need to be on the late which is very helpful full on way like junkets. Today we think is very life so right to win all right and then in the next race in the TC a talked to me and I think I'm saying that name correctly but talk to me the horse. You're going to be aboard there. You've been aboard her. The the last two starts second last time out in the Press Kyle downes master stakes on September sixteenth. Tell me a little bit about her. It's very nice to write very easy last time. She has run very very very good. we are expecting seeming to or better than last two times. I think she got shut all right and then the first lady turn our attention there you go to the first lady stakes miss bad behavior for Richard. Balta says the Horse Year aboard. What do you know about her. I won on her Kentucky Down She got some sleep but he's he's also stayed on the race so let's see how they're they're in writing about her because she he doesn't need elite. Also g come come on. We gotta go pole so let a break and make sure shade in a winning position I during your yeah how much different is writing this keeneland turf of course then of course like Kentucky Downs Kentucky down says the undulating up and down configuration. How much different is it run getting more like we do every day. You know saying Kinda you you know over same thing by Kentucky different. Go Up and down left right so I think in Kentucky and it's all about the horse like it you WanNa be okay. It doesn't like nothing you can do about like well. Let's hope that this bad behavior likes the keeneland turf course later today in the classroom breeders futurity Max Field for Brendon. Walsh is the second time that Brendan will give you a leg up in a greatest stakes today. Tell me about Max field. You went on him last time out to very nice coat a win first time out very nicely actually that day a he was a speed favor drug. Nobody was coming from behind and he did which is very impressive to me so I think we have something here. We got very nice coats so hopefully put it together and stay undefeated talk to for to all right and the last one admission office This is a horse who you road last year but haven't been on them for the last four starts you get back aboard admission office and that is in the the shad while Turf Mile. Tell me about him. What you remember about writing him before is on very cool hope to ride very easy going on to be honest? I love him. I think we had a huge show the winds along really how come because I think he's is a nice source if their truck come from behind and here something other threats you about to rush these sorts. BEC- they're stretchy short here. I wouldn't have to we go. We got our loan stretching so I think it was the drug I mean he. He did alright at one eight zero. He don't good with Y'all yup so he's got big right now. You can tell what what makes Jose Jose Ortiz so good. He knows every race that these horses have run before he gets aboard and he did indeed win. Three starts back at Keeneland in the spring which Joel Rosario Dario Award winning an allowance race getting up by neck and admission office the Horses Jose will be aboard in today's Shell Turf Mile Jose. I know it's a busy morning. I know you've got horses assist works. I won't keep you thank you so much for spending a little time. Congrats on all your success. My friend and I'll look forward to catching up with us. We make our way to Santa Anita in about a month. Mike thank you.
