"When Penco for turned seventy eight hundred. Eighty eight. The cities of Munich and Leipzig each gave him cash gifts to be used for his. Petco foundation of hygienic investigation in eighteen. Ninety he was elected as president of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and in eighteen ninety three he was given. Munich's highest honour. Which was the Gold Burgess Medal? And that was in recognition of his lifetime of work he ninety also brought some sorrow. Max's wife Helene died that year and the couple had also lost three of their five children over the years and all of this loss really took a toll on the scientists in his later. Life the most dramatic story of PENCO offers life and work took place in eighteen. Ninety two it is the part that I referenced. Grossing me out. When I read this outlined during breakfast he was so convinced. The micro organism alone could not make you sick that he put his own life on the line to prove it on October seventh eighteen ninety two. He got a culture of vitriol cholerae. From a sick patient he makes it into Bouillon and he drank it. The experienced quote light diarrhea with an enormous proliferation of the basilica and the stool but he recovered pretty quickly. Two of his students tried the same thing. They both survived but also became very ill. These penton Cofer thoughts on his rash experiment quote even if I had deceived myself and the experiment endangered my life. I would've looked death quietly in the eye for mind would have been no foolish or cowardly suicide. I would have died in the service of science like a soldier on the field of honour. Health and life are as I have so often said very great earthly goods but not the highest for man man if he will rise above the animals must sacrifice both life and health for the higher ideals in eighteen. Ninety Four Penton. Cofer retired from teaching two years. Later he also gave up his court apothecary position and then finally in eighteen ninety nine. He ended all his other professional obligations and retired primarily to lake starnberger in the southwest of Munich. We had a summer home there in one thousand nine hundred one. Petten Cofer entered a serious depression triggered by a painful throat infection on February tenth. Nineteen O One. He shot and killed himself. His body was autopsied and it revealed that he had been living with chronic meningitis. As well as symptoms that would later be recognized as cerebral calcification. Benton cover was buried in his beloved Munich and Kirk Nurse Cemetery today. There's a statue of him in Maximilian Square. In Munich the hygienic institute at the University of Munich which Penton Cofer had leveraged. His Vienna offer to get built was destroyed in World War. Two and it was bombed on July thirteenth nineteen forty four more than twenty years later in nineteen sixty seven it was finally rebuilt and it became the Max. Von Patent Gopher Institute that Institute continues today as a research and teaching organization focusing on micro biology epidemiology and variety and it also offers hygienic microbiological testing for clinical facilities his periodical archive for hygiene. Still exists today. Although it's now published under the name International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health Rex Cofer may have been wrong about the causes epidemics but he was obviously onto an important aspect of public health with his staunch defense of hygiene as vital for the wellbeing of all humankind. The work that he did as we said led to sanitary reform in a number of places which significantly improved communities quality of life and in modern epidemiology. There is a recognition that exposure and outcome can be influenced and modified by other factors. Although it's not a cause and effect situation like he thought yeah. They're definitely all kinds of things that can influence how easy it is for a pathogen to spread and infect people. But like it's not like you would only contract cholera with div specific things happening Like he thought so to quote with quite nicely summarizes pen coffers ideology about the importance of good health quote. Everyone who lives upon the Earth deserves to be well for a life without health is misery martyrdom from which everyone longs for release and when it may not be by other means even by death. I don't know that everyone would agree with that perspective but does see like some his whole philosophy. Yeah good health is is the only way to live. And if you can't have it it's not worth living a little bit grim. Yeah I like ablest right Yeah it's a he's such a an interesting creature in he his position in all of this really does get eclipsed by coke and by Louis Pasteur who were doing their stuff and again because he was fundamentally wrong about contagion but all of the other stuff. He did was amazing. I had no idea about his work in metabolic science until I had gotten pretty deep into research and I was like wait. A minute S- Which is really fascinating. Because that's stuff that is still used all the time today And it's an important part of some people's lives like if you were an athlete you're depending on science that he developed to like maintain your optimal performance Because most athletes have a very serious like nutrition plan that's developed after measuring how they're burning carbohydrates and fat and. That is all part of this. I love that. Here's a trick that is happening as we transition to this new age of recording at home. I usually keep a nice stack of listener. Mail prepped in the office and I'm bombed because that's one of the things that we won't be able to do a little bit Because we're not there to receive it and in fact I think That building is is not going to be receiving it at least not in the normal way that we have been Which stinks but we'll get back to it. I promise when all of this blows over and I can get back to your marvellous personals and postcards. They will be top of mind. If you've been thinking of of sending something to us. We definitely appreciate your thoughts and generosity. I would wait. Yeah hold off. Because I don't know the fate of that stuff right now I'm sure it's going somewhere. And it's probably like being stored somewhere but I don't know how long it's GonNa take for anything to eventually get parceled out actually to us once everything is back up and running so if you have you've been longing to send us to sit on it for a bit it'll still. It will still be sensible with her all done Yeah so what I will do is take this opportunity to thank our Listener Katherine. Who is also someone who I interact with on twitter and has become something of a friend and she Very sweetly sent me a Godzilla magnet and a little RTD to lapel pin rtd in this really stylized way to our office. It was one of the last things I was able to open before. All of this happen. So thank you so much Katharine Lick. That was just the sweetest and I loved it relates to both Star Wars which I love and got zillow which we have talked about on the show before and I also love. "After completing his medical thesis on South American plants that were believed to have curative properties. He received the degree of doctor of Medicine. Surgery and obstetrics. Yeah I'm not one hundred percent clear on why this whole science thing worked for him this round unless he was really just trying to step up and find a vocation in which he could support not only himself but his new wife. He was very dedicated to Helene But this time around it was like his curiosity Kinda worked out and he got pretty into his medical career Penco medical education had always focused primarily on chemistry and his first position after completing his education was working in a lab adverts Berg researching urine and isolating various substances in it in this work. He showed that hip uric acid and sulfur cyanic acid were present in urine and he also noted a component that was high in nitrogen although he didn't specifically identify it later. Chemists would identify that as creatine and creatine and he also developed a way to test year in for Bile Salt and that test has actually continued to be used right up to the modern day he then moved on to the University of Geiss in eighteen. Forty four to continue his work as a chemist but after working under mentor eustis. Von Leeb for a while there. It was apparent that he wasn't going to be offered a professorship which is something he had hoped for their just were not any open. Positions wasn't a an issue him not doing good work because they did not lead to a full-time job. Here's Work League was quite fruitful. He developed a copper amalgam for dentists to us as filling for teeth he also developed away along with Lee big to prepare meat extract as a soup base that actually led to a company being started in his interest in his skill in chemistry really suited industrial chemistry projects. Quite well so. We shifted away from medicine for a while. He was still using his chemistry knowledge on the job that he landed in but it was very different from what he'd been doing before he worked in a mint until eighteen forty seven and in his time there it was his job to refine and improve the minting of coins so the most valuable metals used in their production could be stretched as far as possible. One of the other things that he worked on at this time in his life was developing away to save paintings from mildew that formed as their varnish broke down. You know I fell in love with him for this He figured out a way to really carefully apply alcohol vapor to the services of paintings and in doing so reactivate the varnish so that it would kind of reseal the painting and protected surface from mold and mildew penco offer had been made an associate in the Academy of Sciences in eighteen forty six an eighteen forty seven he was finally offered a professorship at the University of Munich taught in medical chemistry there. This was a newly created position. He was paid a small yearly salary plus two measures of wheat and seven measures of Rye. We had a research space at his disposal and his lectures covered topics including public health sanitation. Diet Physical Chemistry and hygiene. Yeah his interest in all of those really really continues throughout his life and as we'll see It becomes very important. Three years into this new position. Petten Cofer responsibilities grew because his uncle Franz died in eighteen fifty and as a consequence patent gopher inherited from his position as court apothecary so he was kind of advising the government on matters of chemistry and this appointment included the residents that his uncle had lived in. In which Max had lived in as a child so he got a house out of the deal and he also got an additional salary for the apothecary positions. So things are going quite well. We are about to get into the work. That Penn Cofer did while trying to understand the spread of cholera. But first we will pause for a quick sponsor break delivery. You've been loading up on things from Walmart. I used my new capital one walmart rewards card interns unlimited five percent. Back on everything. I buy from Walmart on line. Five percent back in what five percent back with what the capital on Walmart rewards card earn unlimited rewards including five percent back at Walmart online on top of Walmart's everyday low prices. What's in your wallet? Trouncing exclusions apply capital one. Dsp A here's the thing saving money with. Geico is almost better than playing pickup basketball. Because there's always that guy who joins your game. He never passes the rock. He constantly bricks threes. And who completely hack you? And then put his hands up and say no foul no foul with GEICO. It's easy to switch and save on car insurance. No need to fake. An ANKLE SPRAIN. Because you're absolutely exhausted. So switch and save with GYCO. It's almost better than sports. Starting in the eighteen fifties cholera became the focus of much of. Petco I work in eighteen fifty five. His fortunes continued to expand and his standing in the scientific community grew as well and he was able to his lab into the newly built Institute of Physiology were. He had more space to work. And this was also the year that he published a really important work investigations and observations on the method and spread of cholera during this time one of the important concepts that he wrote about was the idea of a healthy carrier while he didn't agree with the contagion theories at the time. And we're going to get into that in a moment. He did think that there could be people who showed no sign of illness whatsoever and yet helped spread certain elements of disease. Max Von Penton. Cofer started sharing his idea. That cholera was linked to a microorganism but he was also adamant that. Whatever that microorganism was wasn't enough to make someone sick by itself. He thought a series of conditions had to be met to cause an epidemic there had to be the micro organism specific local conditions seasonal conditions and individual susceptibility. He really didn't believe in the developing ideas. That would eventually lead Louis. Pasteur and Robert Coke to develop germ theory. Yeah germ theory had been kind of developing over time but they really solidified it In the eighteen hundreds patent coffers idea was represented by the simple mathematical equation of x Plus Y. Equals Z. And in this model the outcomes e was cholera the variable x was the presence of a microorganism. Which again on its own. He believed to be harmless. And the Y variable represented the local conditions that were contributing factors that would enable that microorganism to actually become infectious. He thought that general cleanliness offered nutrients for that ex micro organism to thrive that waterer and warm temperatures. Poor soil. Were also important contributors. The micro-organism needed to ferment. Basically kind of the way a plant germinates and then building on Meazza theory it would release infectious elements into the air and idea of Co fers came to be known kind of colloquially as the groundwater theory it's also sometimes called localization theory this theory was in opposition to the work of British physician. John Snow who we have an episode on and the Archive. Snow believed that whatever was causing. Cholera was something that was ingested and was not Maya's matic in eighteen forty nine snow had written essay entitled on the Mood and Communication of cholera outlining. This idea in eighteen fifty four. It seemed like he had proven it when he identified a water pump in London's broad street that seemed to be the source of multiple people's infections very short version of his story. PENTON COFER WAS PRETTY ADAMANT. That snow was oversimplifying things. He acknowledge that John. Snow had clearly identified some factor in this whole process in the water and he actually wrote that. No one is right. Mind could dismiss that finding but what exactly was it about the water that caused illness. He felt as though it. Just could not possibly be waterborne pathogen by the way that word was not even in in the vernacular at that time it wasn't coined until later But he's not that anything that would have been in the water by the time it got to a human would have been far too diluted to actually be dangerous that big gap in understanding really drove patent gophers work for the rest of his life. He wrote paper after paper over the next four decades reiterating and refining his ideas. This stoked the fires of a long debate in the medical and scientific communities between the contagion ests who thought that Snow had identified the problem and the anti contagious to you thought there were far more factors involved than simply passing some sort of germ from person to person and bill. Cholera was a concentration of his work. Pankofer continued to develop theories and experiments in other fields This is one of those things where you don't realize how much he worked on until you really dig in. Because most of the the biographies.

"And not still be held accountable. Right like guys listen to me. I'm fucking NUTS THAT IS ALEC CHOP LAFAYETTE. Finally Gone Stew. And it's like wait a minute. This is actually a pretty good question here from John. Michael Harris at J. Hyphen M. six five. Espn had a pro football scripted series years ago that the NFL killed. What sport would you like to see a TV show about what was it? Usps had a scripted. Football series A couple years ago that the NFL killed so that makes me wonder if ESPN got a little gritty. With this you have to. Yeah I mean you can't the F. ballers surprised they still have rights because they portray like the like the party aspect and XIV rich and famous people. They like to party and they do drugs. And get girls and stuff. I'd be doing the same IDA. Millions of dollars in the bank but it's NFL or some of these organizations don't want to be preceded in that light no and it makes sports. It's family entertainment. It's so weird. It's that kind of push and pull between family entertainment and these guys are twenty year old. Millionaires do anything. It's like entourage. Like wait. Actors are going around doing coke and banging color me shocks. Well that's why the NFL family guys that commercial about an NBA player. Who's sleeping with another woman? He's like I will not physically touch you. I just want the the intimacy of sleeping with another person. I have a wife and family at home and it's like the NBA. Let's all pretend this happens as well. It's like Derek jeter just like go all these girls. He's been trendy all five boroughs living the life. It's like that's part of what being an athlete is. I guess what famous rich I? I've always said I want to see like a savvy. Brothers would do a great job of this. If it was a series or movie somebody needs to write a movie about AAU basketball because it is a circus. Imagine Lavar Ball. Times three hundred. They're just Lavar. Ball's all over the country. There are kids that are being exploited. Kids that are growing up too fast because of a U. Culture. People are saying that it ruins the game. It's not teaching fundamentals. It's become so commercialized. You can. There's a fucked up story within the AAU Community and circuit. It's it's wild and somebody who did participate on a smaller level in. Aau Basketball from my perspective. I know it's crazy but then you know we have friends stu where stupid go to Las Vegas for these major? Aau tournaments and you know hearing his stories high school kids the way that they would party and now it's like it's like they're they're treated like adults listened like hockey podcasts. At least spent chocolates. Were like some ex players there and they tell stories and have guys on. And you're like a show about that it's going to be pretty fucking hectic. Yeah it's pretty. Spn To have that story Cans the NFL is probably like. It's like the draft day. You know the movie drafter. Yeah Yeah Yeah you know the NFL Costner. Nfl wouldn't allow any team to lose a trade in the movie in a fictionalized movie. They said you can make the trades on the draft day and no team can lose it because they want to like tease wanted to keep the slight be shown in a good light even. Yeah it's like Oh we talked. I think we're going to give you. This team has to be like. Oh that's a good deal for both teams because the NFL teams. They don't want to be perceived as making a bad deal a movie A fictionalized movie which Chadwick Bozeman gets drafted it. Yeah it's it's a twenty year olds it's the shield you know. It's it's the brand. It's like we we what we were talking about with Disney where they WANNA maintain the family brand but also kind of branch out into more mature shows and that's the thing with like behind the scenes the NBA. The professional sports. It's chaos celebrities baseball. Probably the most boring couple of Toronto Blue Jays GOI- At a club. It's like. Yeah we'RE GONNA bluejays here not like. Oh what is that like? The local minor league pro like their marriage Zona on a road trip to go to the local bars like the Blue Jays. I duNno I guess. Does that sport involved contact? No don't talk to me poor guys. It isn't saying how no one knows who might trout's or pick them out of a lineup. Yeah it used to be like Joe. Dimaggio is the biggest star in the world dating Marilyn Monroe Baseball they were. They were the kings of celebrities. Yeah no it's fascinating. Who is the most recognizable right now? Derek jeter still playing like applying judge. It's always going to be Yankee. It's going to be the best player on the Yankees and I'm not saying that because bias. I think that's actually a big problem in baseball. Where it's like if you want to be a big mega star you have to go to the Yankees. Even the dodgers isn't enough anymore. I don't think NFL's gotTa Star problem to not to the same extent. Bless your the quarterback mostly or certain instances other players from their positions. But it's always a quarterback this question here from Christian you Lemberg at Music City nerd. Do you think every major movie coming out this Spring Summer. We'll get delayed slick and like no yeah. I'm the more that movies announced that they're being pushed back. I can't imagine many argue to stand pat. I wonder how like that works. Like a lot of critics sale. Getting screeners and things like that There's going to be a giant gap or fair to got screeners. Removing Assad coming up next year like yeah. You made the point about the of releasing movies at aren't necessarily expected to make huge money. Are those movies still gonNA come back a come out how? What's the extent in terms of movies being pushed back? We'll let you say Peter Rabbit to was pushed back. Well that makes like you don't WanNa bring kids instead of I and I guess but let's say like best case scenario in a month and a half two months we're good does fast and furious. Come back and say hey. Maybe it will release in October now. Maybe because if it's at with movies I feel like it is a bit easier for the NBA. They have a logistical problem with. Rescheduling the Games and making sure that they have time in the arenas they were. They were talking about how they were struggling to reschedule the game where they cancelled. Because a Kobe's death between the Lakers and Clippers. They're like we can't spot for this game. That's one fucking game like the nicotine centers they. Msg It's like will not only do you have the rangers and explain MSG but yet called Vegas concerts are gonna be there. The biggest shows it's I don't know it's going to be tough. Yeah we'll do we're just GONNA have to wait and see and you also gotta think too if you're Netflix. If you have an original movie that was set to be released in July or August. And it's already done and ready to go the move it up a little to kind of. I don't know it's kind of weird saying like to profit off of this but if know movies are coming out in the theaters and you have good movie and put it out during this time when you know people are going to be home looking for a kind of escape and something to watch. I think studios may be afraid of doing that because it sends the message that we're trying to capitalize on this yeah Which at the end of the day. They are trying to make money and people are good at still go to the movies. I'm pretty sure a lot of people are still going to kind of maintain the way that they live their lives for now. I'm going to go but I'm GONNA like look to make sure it's a theater. Where like two people in it for support. Yeah I'm interested to just go out and public just because I never do. Why WON'T THE TO GROCERY STORE YESTERDAY? It's pretty empty. I WanNa like five six o'clock when you think people getting home from work got to go get some groceries. It was not really no one in there. It's like you know how like when you go to this grocery store. Pick up off the shelf. You look at it a little input back and you. Kinda repeat that numerous times and I was strictly I will tell you. Can't you can't do the look around? You got to get that out. I was telling my mom was like no honey nut cheerios. I can get this. Yeah look at that. That fruit looks fun. Yeah that's like a curb episode like this type of Ten at the grocery store. Someone's touching to many of the meats. Yeah Oh we can't. It's a good. That'd be steak right there. You don't have to turn it around the look at it the steak. He touched five pieces of meat. Now I can't touch any of those right. I'm GONNA eat chicken for dinner chicken last night but you should do a curb. I tell you avi great just big pitcher guy. He'll do all the INS and outs he'll do okay. all right. We'll take one more question here this questionnaire from Noah Ross and Ross thirty seven what is your favorite and least favorite pixar movie and why favor lease here. I still need to see onward I was actually going to go to an early screening but I couldn't make it so and then I didn't WanNa go opening weekends because I felt like that'd be just too much going on so I might go now that it kind of calmed down but Pixar in general. It's hard to think of a bad one well. The cars ones lease favored yes. They've got a couple that are just like I saw cars and I was a kid so I'm not gonna I haven't seen it as an adult to kind of be like. Oh that didn't age well so in my mind cars kicks ASS. I almost want to go like least favourite of the legendary releases and I would say probably wally. I don't love Up Actually No. I do like up but up. His is definitely lower on the list. Like wally is probably my least favorite out of all them. My favorite is toy story. One will always be toy story. One did you see finding Dory yes. I like finding Dory lower-tier once again. I think there's tiered there's three tiers of Pixar. There's like the finding dory mid tier the elite tier like the Monsters Inc the first two toy stories. And then there's like the cars tear yeah Here's soul that's going to be a good one. They just released a trailer for that right. Yeah I'm excited for that. Coco was great to really inside out. All Toy stories are just phenomenal. So that's kind of like in their own different level. You're the first toy story is one of those just big bangs in cinema. There's just so much going for the fact that it's a great movie but the influence that it had been the first of its kind in terms of computer animation inside out to. It's another one that just got critically in that's fucked up movie. That movie makes you think I was like that. You're watching the kids movie and it's like Holy Shit that's deep and the kids are just like. Oh Yeah I like that. Initially you don't understand you know you don't. That's guardians of the galaxy. Jackson pollock joke play. That's for the adults and the kids. Don't get it but you do headed rocket. Get it already. That's a nerd supertalk. Today I am bow oliver jointed thereby Aaron. We are signing off Thank you for listening. Thank you for joining us. Make sure that you like and subscribe. Comet your thoughts and senator questions you know send questions to the email. We like them. How many comets? So we're GONNA get fast and furious. Pushback Yeah keep listening folks. Then here we know are dumb. They don't fucking CARE. And then the edits are going to be like all these dumb asses gets. They found out later to get. That's how it works when you start a podcast before news comes out what's trending. It was literally the last thing on my trending list who was fast and furious cycle. What's that Oh boy. Yeah we got lucky. Yeah we did. Arteaga's wash your hands..

"That's for the fan to decide. People you call up to the show you better be ready to do sitting there arguing China spell your name and all of this other stuff. It's not just show by show. I'm giving you that opportunity to speak among. Don't call me unless you've got to stack actually got some good questions. This one here from Pat Phillips. It's Pat at Pat Underscore Phillips Ninety. Three what is your most painful character? Death ooh painful to great question going through all them reliving all them. Thanks Pat. Yeah I you know what I'm GonNa say Logan Logan because the speech that she gets from Shane. I'm getting chills right now. I could cry right now but I'm GONNA hold it back flips that fucking cross to annex. It gets me. I'm DC. I'm almost tearing up. I always theatre. It's the whole theater was talking ball and Ariza like with the Red Wedding and rob when I read that I was more shocked than like said And obviously thinking back on it. I'm like it sucks but I was reading it. I was just like what the Fuck Rob's is sad. Yeah it's definitely shocking. For a while the savage from that was later chapters of other people reflecting on it and just hearing about it. It's like Oh man it's internationally happens. I think that's when a character death hits you Moses when it affects the people around that character. It's like series black and Harry Potter. It's like this kid finally has Somebody to look up to as a guardian as a parental figure and then he's taken away from him. It's it's less. I mean serious black guy but it's like faulk ban Harry can't catch a break. I billy cost again. That was shocking more shocking than said right and so. There's a bit of a difference there. I'm trying to think of what which one made me like devastated. I mean Marley Y- Oh that doesn't count though. I think it does just play with our emotions at that point. Yeah they knew what they were doing that one come on. I hate when dog Stein movie. John John Wicks talk. Actually Oregon is a good one came through just full of them so I mean nets nets aside death. That's another death whereas the impact that he had on so many characters with a kept bringing up and bring him back those feelings. Yes that's another one too though is more shots because I I watch. He's worn but I read wedding when I watched it. I it was episode nine and that was binging at that time size right like I didn't have much time to actually sit there and be like Oh man and the press. I got to see what happens next. Skilled skilled net though the scene where Orient and sounds are talking on top of the castle. When they're watching Mila Sandra now. Sorry that's not the right thing and season seven after they execute little finger and they're just remembering that that's the scene that always makes me choke up but let's go onto the next question. This question here from Zoey at Zoe. Why why so? Why two through seven favorite comedy movie for me. It's super bad super bowl. It cracks me up. I was actually washing. Twenty one. Jump Street Yesterday funding can move volley. I think people forget how. How brilliant comedies? This past decade jump street so big Jonah Hill Guy. If you haven't gotten that by now yes. Super Bad for me is all time. Great one of the best movies of that decade I wish comedies. Just got more respect as great movies but mine would be tropic thunder. I Love Tropic Thunder. I can watch clips of that. I can watch clips Robert Downey junior in tropic thunder all day near a lot of funny movies come out but most of them are kind of blend that John Rule Line where the difference between like an appetite comedy which I feel like most people classify as comedy then like the Nice guys right. Yes so like blockers. Comedy Yeah is no mistake about. Blockers was actually pretty. Funny is funny so it was good boys. Zoe also wants to know what would be your last meal. Wash your hands my last meal breakfast. Nice Nice Nice breakfast. We'll caught her breakfast any breakfast breakfast. So bowlegged at all as cereal OATMEAL A poor Faye. No a great breakfast. It's not like like if I'm with genie. And you know the literal wish if I tell Jeannie great breakfast he's GonNa know he's going to know what a great breakfast we all know. Pancakes Bacon Sausage buttered toast. I are lots of milk. Oj Ever see these posts on twitter or whatever. It's like the serial killer last meal. Was this so one of them was like I've forgotten. The food was but he he ate it while watching Lord of the Rings Trilogy. So said Kay so so. I fight like last meal. I'll just get like fucking massive amounts of just like all my favorites just a buffet. And just like watch. Like game of thrones hearts for you. Yeah that'd be great How do you say a man named Sandwich Cheese in Mayo Sandwich? It changes though because I have a lot of favorite foods and the big food guy so I today I'm GonNa move for its ribs. I Dunno rib mood but smile on that MATT STAKE THEY AFTER. GimMe Nights Chicken. Mac AND CHEESE MASHED POTATOES. All the all the fixings. We like food here. This question here from Taylor all swings you kidding me at Taylor. Also are you excited about Westworld? And Will you be doing episode breakdowns like previous seasons? Yeah westworld couple days. Santia undoing rewatch right now man. Good luck on them. Moving along season one is so fucking. Good Yeah I think it's pretty much perfect beginning to end Evan. Rachel Wood to the some of the scenes where she's having like a they bring her back online and she's experiencing her last moment in the park. She's like her and then she stops. She speaks it's in a southern accent. And you say. Lose the accident then. It's a normal accent. It's Jeez yeah yeah now. She's a fucking beef. Tanny new in and Jeffrey Wright and obviously Hopkins Hopkins is like Who's at nerd writer? Who broke down that scene? When he's Theresa my favorite scene of one of my top five favorite teams ever. Yeah but I think that's the best of the season. Scientists watched that episode and not just like in the beginning though things be perfectly balanced. Yeah it's incredible show episode breakdowns. We will be reviewing after the episode. We're going to do podcast this year because the episode breakdowns are just too much. I mean if something comes to mind maybe but right now. We'll do the podcast. Those will be out Monday so next week is Aaron Paul. Well you know a Russian robots by not the quarantine so maybe we'll make videos there. That is true or probably. Just be depressed. I'll people have plenty of time. Ketchup on Westworld. You haven't discussion here from Elliot. An ally your old intro was a talking heads. Song. What other music. You guys like besides rap. While I think he's saying they were spitting talking on yourself. Have Pref group talking had well? It's the answer the answer that everybody gives us. I listen everything so when people ask me what I listen to. I like to tell them the last thing. I listen to Just discovered Joni Mitchell. So that's cool. She's she's actually really talented. Always knew it's like one of those like Like fleetwood Mac. You know them but it's like how many songs can you name by for me personally? Yeah but yeah no I. I tried to listen to everything I like I said. I'm a slave to pitchfork if pitch work. Is You a good review and probably going to listen to your album yeah? I've been kind of slacking on music lately as far as new things but I do a lot of different music. It's just it's hard to explain. What about it I like? It's just something that really like connects or you can just hang out. Listen to music is. It's still subjective. Yeah that's why like I never like recommending music unless it's rap because it's like I don't really care if you like this or not and like you said it's something that you know. It's like a movie where it's like. This is why you like this. I can listen to a song that I think is amazing. I love it and I play every time I played it. It's like the first time it right you play with someone else and they'll be like yeah all right you the other day. I played the boxer by Simon and Garfunkel. My favorite Simon and Garfunkel Song for Teddy. No he was just here So what the focus shocks hurt me? He doesn't hold back then. Fucking hate that could levy like the newer music. I like I Mambo rap. It's not real rat lately. I've been like it's actually I can I can. I know I've been secretly Bob into rough. It's different you know different types that you can resonate in different ways you can sit down and listen to Jay z from any album really but just spitting bars and having this amazing flow. Then put on. I don't know you know when somebody yeah. You can't deny when somebody's spitting. Yeah royse the five nine. I don't necessarily like him artistically Teddy semi a freestyle the other day where you just going off on. A. B. for six minutes and I'm like this this motherfucker spit on future. It's a totally different style. But you could be like. Oh Yeah I do like future. Dirty sprite too. I never liked future but I saw coming around. I served a base. He's got a great Played a game of thrones which you really game of thrones. I want WHO A. Oh yeah she's an eight that even drop. I don't remember season eight man so we are. You know what's crazy? If they did extend the shell they would have been pushed back. Oh well definitely especially because they shoot all over Europe. Yeah that's true okay. This is actually a good question. I can't say the name. Come on Man. Fix Your username friends. And I often debate our favorite directors in which is the best. Would love for you guys to settle the score between Tarantino Nolan and fincher. I don't want to do this but I've been called to do unlike George Washington you know don't want to lead the revolution but who's GonNa do it? John you physical Edward Rutledge. He'd be Lord gloves refusing to call. Its was a Nolan Tarantino and venture who am I gonNA put one Tarantino Nolan could be could be finch. I'M GONNA go I'M GONNA. I'm GonNa take it and say Dan all I'll go tarantino personally. Because he has more of my favorite movies view would vowed rank all day. Put all their movies together in rhythm. I think Tarantino would be one two for Basser in Django and soft pulp fiction. And it's time Hollywood. It's crazy but I'm trying to think which is a I'm gonNA give the edge to who has the better the best movie out of the three and right now it's between the Dark Knight and the Social Network and I don't know which one is better for me it's best. My favorite Nolan is probably dark. Knight Mementos up there. I don't hate interstellar I love. Batman begins Dunkirk dunkirk. I haven't seen inception awhile. I gotTa Watch that again. I think it's easier to definitely to compare Nolan adventure. Yeah and I think I leaned towards fincher being slightly better filmmaker. I think he's a bit more consistent. One of the guys on red letter media once the Nolan gets a little sloppy in his films. That aren't so great and I think that was a great point that when Nolan sloppy it it it really takes you out of it I mean it doesn't take you out of it. But it's so noticeable like interstellar I love but not a perfectly main movie. No one's a better like his movies are written. I think bigger picture right yes. He's waiting shares at Fisher's films. I think have tighter dialogue and things of that Nature Ganga another one of my favorite movies this past decade that I feel like it's getting talked about a little more but fell like it got underrated. go back seven. We'll forget Aliens Three D. Well that was his first movie right. Yeah Yeah I love the girl with the Dragon Tattoo. What he's done with mine hunters people have really liked. He's been kind of pissed off at him though because he kind of. He delayed mind hunter for his latest film. Liven delay like they avoided contracts with the actors. Together we come back. But there's no guarantee in Asia while the last movie he did do was It was gone girl right. That's his last movie. Thanks so obviously Zodiac Teddy's favorite movie. Yeah I mean that's the thing. Nolan is a bit more ambitious with his style. So it's Nolan's kind of in the vein of James Cameron almost think. That's a better comparison. Yeah it's even like Spielberg. You could tell he loves Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick. Even fight club. I mean that's always a movie. Oh Shit if I make fun of like film Bros. Fight Club poster. But I I still like that movie. You Know Brad got doesn't he? He's not real. No it's all in our NORTHERNS head put he. They were now. That doesn't make sense. Watch it again okay. You need to pay attention to the soap seen. I do love that when they make the soap and sell it. It's a why does love that. I love it when he finally realizes any breaks and he's like the members of the fight club like respect him like like even I can break the rule..

"Mardell sad sandwich here. It's a McDonnell. This is I I really hope. Allison Brie gets the role as she hulk because the boss logic fan art look great and I think she's an underrated actress. Who else did he have his fan or a elect was The there's another one going around to. He can make fan art of like anybody as she hulk on Queen Elizabeth Three Hole. And I'll be like you know what I I I'm seeing it now though. Yeah Mark Ruffalo. I mean he has to be in it because he gives her the ability to turn into hulk through the blood transfusion or whatever it is you know some wacky science thing and I'm excited for she hoped to especially on the big screen because we've seen withhold now. He can control the power. I'd like to see another hulk. Be Able to control her power. We get a little amadeus show. That's the The other hulk the current hulk I think in the comics just hulk it up baby all missing the see how these Disney plus mobile series. Or you know we're going to get a little taste this year with WanNa Vision End Falcon into Winter Soldier. So just want to get a sense of like the tone and like how. Grandes are going to be how it looks with the budgets like because with a hook type. Cgi It's going to be going to be up there in price. Yeah I was wondering that if they're gonNA say oh I can switch back and forth now. I wonder if they'll do that with Ruffalo now because that. Cgi people some people complained about it. I thought the Hawks. Gee I looked pretty good and so you have to. Cgi looks pretty good. That means it was expensive as faulk. Yeah so What she hoped you can. Maybe even just do practical. You know Kinda put her in like a body suit maybe some. Cgi because she's not fully just Hawkin out. She's like ripped. Yeah Taller. Guess but the interesting to see how they do that. Maybe it's only certain occasions she can turn into the hulk and they kind of shy away from it and it's more about the character itself. It's like the game of Thrones Ghost in the dragon's you gotTa make sure that you use the sparingly. Yeah so less Disney just like fuck it. Who Cares you? Think like their fans out there. That are like hey. Why don't you just do the Hulk series? There are a lot of comics that that get really get into the psyche of Hawkin and metaphorically portray his transformation as I dunno polar dis disorder. Yeah I don't think so either because universal they need to get out from under that everyone was too wrapped up with Sony. People forgot about universally. Yeah they were just sitting there in the corner like those Sony. Bassett's Ronan everything. The bomb excited to see it. Because like you said dizzy plus kind of struggled there have been reports about that that there's worries behind the scene that they're not putting out enough original content and maybe that they should have waited to premiere it the service as a whole. Yeah because for me. Personally the man delorean. I know a lot of Star Wars fans of clone wars right now but other than that. If you're not a star wars fan what are you. I've touched it since Mandal Laurean. I need to cancel. It actually does paying for nothing at this point. I'll watch like the last thirty minutes of the game occasionally Because I'm just like this is awesome. I watch a couple of the star wars movies. I watched a couple of Pixar movies but other than that even for families. I've got to imagine it's worth it to tell you the truth. I don't think there's enough content you can put it on for kids. I think enough there. Yeah throw it out of the but I've been using. I got the bundle. I've been using. Hulu a hell of a lot more right. Yeah we'll see what happens when they start rolling this marvel stuff out but there's nothing to supplement that it's just moral so those two episodes from week to week. What else are you GonNa Watch? That's why Disney is playing this weird game where it's they want to maintain the family friendly brand of Disney but they also want to bring in people who are watching better call Saul breaking bad game of thrones. Because that's how you get the big blockbuster show it's not you're not catering towards families and younger people now. You need everyone when it comes to TV. So it's like here are three marvel shows and if they suck then you're screwed there's no guarantee that these shows are even going to be good so you're you're only putting out a couple original series a year. You your chances are not great here. Yeah and the thing. Netflix says they can put out content from everywhere new movies. I just got released the matter. What the studio last year. They're coming an ethics now new series coming on an F. fx AMC. Whatever as a matter will take your shows and right right right so and with our original content. So yeah and Netflix kids to let me. Just click a button. All of a sudden you got Disney. Plus if like if you're saying it's like oh we'll put it on for the kids kids on their behalf. There's pepe pig. He's Disney princess. Now I WANNA watch frozen like earn like Paul Patrol. Yeah put on like a documentary about climate change when on Al Gore. We didn't really listen to him. I'm not sure we'll say so not ten years before if he was really joking enough. Do we have any other major stories any breaking news. I mean there's some news way the quietness news. Would you want to talk about that? Yeah we're seeing more and more a lot of movies getting pushed back due to this new pandemic That's the name of a beer but I don't know if we can say it 'cause we team on its. Yeah I mean it's It's the obvious story. We can talk about what it means for. The I think more of these films are GonNa Start being pushed back. I mean obviously what the NBA has done. Yeah that's that's kind of you think that's the biggest domino but it's like a kind of a wait and see period you know it's this whole thing could be different a month where it's like okay. We can kind of resume activity. The trains are running back on time. But these studios not. I mean that's the thing. We're focused on movies but it's like everyone is kind of a bit shaken up by this because it's like how am. I GONNA MAKE MONEY IF I can't go to work. Yeah that's the thing too and like the NBA suspended at season but although arena workers and things like that and even think about all the theaters. All everyone working at the movie theaters. Eddie Jobson I. If somebody made a great point years ago on twitter they like you know we all take shots at Hollywood elites but a lot of the people who are working in Hollywood are working paycheck to paycheck. They're middle-class it when you see all those credits roll at the end of the movie. Those aren't all millionaires. I don't sell so you kind of have to keep that in mind. When these movies are being pushed back the economic effect it has on the studios and also the workers because now they're saying certain several shows have a have stopped production cabin America. The Captain America show I think A few of them have but some L. Fast and fast nine not moving. Its release date is the most fast nine thing L. multi we got family and they love coronas like if anyone's view to its US. It's yeah could see that coming a mile away. Or that's like they're gonNA find a way to work that into the movie they're definitely doing reshoot. Charlie's around like I have this bioweapon Johnson. I cannot every time I see that trailer when it's Don's younger brother living in it's like living in his brother's shadow or some shit or like always tried to be better than him at what stealing. Vcr's first movie. He's been like an on sizes super soldier. Yeah Mel Johnson is a straight up fucking assassin that strange entire life and Don Toronto has been like a very very secretive agent for like six months away knows he exists. There aren't any records. I doubt he's ever voted or pay taxes. Like what have you been keeping up with? This man's life of espionage. It's it's incredible. I love that franchise the plotters. They just don't living in my older brother's shadow it's Why are we super spy living in your brother shadow when he was racing backlots? Maybe that's he's like revenge is a dish best served as being super spy. It's like if you're going to be good at that. I'M GONNA take it to the next level. And then he becomes a spy and he realizes down became a spy with no training then diesel was he pissed to be hitting. That's supposed to be my thing. You can't just change randomly. And he's great at it. He wants to be the rock character. Yeah it he's basically become because if that was the story for the rock the rock had a younger brother. That always wanted to be like the rockets. Like I'm convinced he's he's been doing. This is entirely. What a ridiculous franchise. Good thank God. I'm glad pushing factor. God bless the fast and furious franchise. They might move it up. Just getting theaters right now. Let's get let's get ahead of this thing. Come on. It's part of these forty experience. Yes you'd get the virus go see this movie But Yeah we saw Mulan is changing it's red carpet date and For Europe and quiet places getting pushed back bond. That was the big one got pushback. Moulana hasn't been pushed back right and China has not China. Us and good reviews so far. It's a risk right now. I mean we see with obviously some like the NBA. The MLS. I think lollygag suspended some games the NHL. Probably as soon as they're taking precautionary approach to this. And that's good. I mean we'd rather overprepared under bear right. Yeah so some of these studios a might be will. We don't know what it's to be like in April or May. So do we try to stick it out a little here or do we take precaution? The that's the thing it's it's a situation that's going to be constantly changing and You know you look at other countries in the precautions that they're taking and you have to wonder you know. Does that come to us. Do we Or do we find ourselves in a similar circumstance where it's not necessarily where it's like. Yeah everybody's turning it too but it's like we have to be extra careful to make sure that the most vulnerable aren't exposed to this. I got a question if you're like a new mutants. Can you afford another pushback? Yes Oh yeah I think so. Nieminen's is like fine war. They can drop it on the intimidate us. They could. I could see that as an option for streaming service that actually is. I might be good for dizzy. Plus and if you think if you're like a not low budget mid closer to allow not nothing to too expansive. Would you consider selling her movie to inflex? Oh yeah definitely even in excel you especially if you have some actor or some positive positive early reviews coming for your film and we're not gonNA make too much money at the box office anyway. So why not sell it to Netflix? Hulu? Yeah I love the this idea too of new mutants. It's like you know. Maybe we should put the talk into Milan. And James Bond like yeah. Maybe we should push back doing they listen to you and nobody was going to see you anyway. No one knows you exist like James Bottom Milan. You can push it back. You're still gonNA make money right now. It's GonNa be interesting to see how it unfolds. Yeah definitely WANNA go. What's trending share? I wonder why I wonder what's going on. Let's try to stop market crash. Twenty twenty two former beatle. John Lennon was forty with John. Until.

Everybody wanting to wash their hands that Ted was never washing his hands right. That's gotta be true because he's always sick. Always effing or sneezing. Coughing hacking. Yeah there's no way he was a water no he in twos yes once. He's like no one's at his own house never says out why wouldn't think he has a sink. Teddy's it's my house. Get GERMS myself sick. We have some sad news but we also have some positive news in the world of movies TV and Video Games and you can listen to this podcast on itunes at the new podcast soundcloud spotify youtube. Of course and senator questions at Nerd suit for you EDGY MEL DOT COM nerds. Hoop on twitter nerds monkey teddy inert soup Anthony J Q Nash on twitter as well they can cut the last one such anti-national Rodley Bruin here joking but Bradley Beal John Wall. I'm deal okay. I think Nash would like John. Wall overrated I beat the last of us. Oh Nice Yeah how was it? How do you feel good? It's a good game. I thought it'd be longer now yet is It's about a sixteen hour story right. I finished like twelve hours. Oh okay played on normal difficulty. But it's it's it's Ville Lotta Fun but I thought it was more open worlds right now. Yeah it's map two map. Yeah the ending though. Yeah no the whole. The whole video game was a delight to play and I can't wait for the second one. I like the whole just game. Play like the whole stealth kind of you. Can you can kind of choose how you WANNA take it Situation Situation and I love how you don't just have an abundance of supply so you gotta go gotTa Scour. Yeah that's I. I enjoyed that aspect of it. But when when you would find like three bullets. Samis no when the flame thrower was the best one. Oh you got rights. But I got the The attachment sue finally got put the scope on the rifle. My actually doesn't I because it was just on the rifle Dave freaky Guy Dave which was saving the the. Do THE TRUST KIDNAP. Elie a hall. Yeah I'll fuck name fan casting. I WANNA Adrien Brody to play Dave keeping perfect not bad and I still want Hugh Jackman even the Logan is so similar neglect hostile. Waldo agreed gassing too yeah that would be cool and They everybody wants the girl from book. Smart I forget her name. Yeah so the. There's been a lot of fan castings but when he was like Ellen page like she was clearly based on Ellen page. Don't ages like thirty eight? Now come on but yeah there's a lot of fun. I love that game. I'm doing the site. Decide mission now. Oh okay the DLC where it's The prequel right. No it's well. It's kind of flashing between Deli in the past and Ellie now right right like a like a side quest. Oh that's one. How about those drafts. All those moment like competitor f our. Let's move onto our first door. We actually have a sad news here. We have Max. Von Sydow has passed away the legendary Swedish actor who is known for. I mean really everything. He's known for Hollywood blockbusters. He's known for domestic blockbusters in his own home country and he's known as really just one of the greatest actors of all time and he's ninety years old so it's not a big surprise at. He passed away but still sad. When you have to say goodbye to a legend and Raven for us yet three either even who's in star wars so it's kind of like every generation has some Reference Point when they have Max von Gorden really every generation now of course the excess is. Well it's funny too. It's like when we we always say like into capital. That's that's the pairing now it's like Gerwig and Shosha roden before any of that was Bergman Max yeah. They're one of the originals original parents and yet he's one of the staples of Bergman's Offi. So it's you can't tell the story of Burg without Maxon vice versa. It's a you're more of a fan of classic cinema than I am but I've seen a few of those films Seven seal is amazing. Shame and My preference in film leans more towards the contemporary Cinema but I mean going back. Even if you're not a fan of classic films watching those movies it's Kinda transcends the error kind of and you can still enjoy it and obviously Bergman won the best records of all time but a lot of that is Max's Acting Yeah. Yeah and Just recently like you said in Star Wars. He's great in that. First scene is lower SANTITA. His most probably most famous role for American audiences would be the exorcist you know playing the priest and the XS and it's funny because after the I saw the exorcist. I'd come off watching all these Bergman movies with Max wanted. Oh so I see him in the exits and I'm like Whoa. Did he have a bad five years? Between the last movie I saw him in because he's like forty four and he looked old as fuck but apparently that was just makeup and he convincingly played an old man. I threw me off but then I did research and I'm like okay. They aged him up and You know he's he's he's in that movie for maybe fifteen minutes and he steals the fucking show if he was an American like say he did that. Work and Hindenburg bender or just American an American duo. He would be thought of as the year. He is one of the best. But are there too narrow for us really? It would be like a clinic sort of like John Reid war around him. So that's yeah. And that's the thing he is so you know so. Many people respect his talent that he has broken into the to the mainstream audiences. The it it just said you know. It's one of those guys where he kept working until the end so you kind of expect them to just keep working forever but It it was so and I love him as the Raven. People were upset with that. It's like they go for the more famous actor the recasts but I thought he was good in that role. I love the three eyed raven likeliest touchdown before like at the end star. Wars game of thrones these massive franchises. He was still going. Yeah I think he was nominated for an Oscar for incredibly close. That movie The Tom Hanks movie so yeah now he's he's been putting in that work and now he lives forever. He lives forever his work. And it's truly. It's a sad moment but once again we appreciate his life and his legacy that Philly. So Max Lonzo. We'll be seeing you around seeing you at the movies and let's move on to our next door here. Which is I don't know We have some marvel news right. Yeah no yeah. Let next door immoral news. I feel like we should. We'll sandwich the The Saturday was with marvel hit. Yeah we had really sad sandwich as nice. Some some thor and Guardian or four hour shocked by the response to this. Everyone's like who asked for this. It's like no one asked for this. They told you. Did you not see the end of end game? Even like putting that aside I loved accordions and I loved order the best part of end game and the best part there were definitely a a welcome like addition to infinity war and endgame those pairings so if they said like thunderbolt. Ross was GONNA be in Thor Four. I'd be like Yeah but it's like yeah the wacky characters in your entire universe another wacky. Yeah right right. It's like the space bound. Wacky adventurers are joining another space bound wacky adventure by director. Who's who fits in so well with the EMC because he hasn't had to change his style. I think it's perfect me too and I don't think they're gonNA play a big part. I don't think it's going to be four and guardians movie the probably be in the beginning maybe grew to rocket will help him out with something. And it's not. I don't think it's going to be a major part of it but sprinkle it in a little and it could be a nice supplement to the main story. I would love to see what Tyco could do with thor and groot rocket. That's I. I hope he does where. They're the main guardians that come along for the adventure and then eventually they go back to the Guardians because James Gone loves those characters and you want to see what he does with the third movie but if they can kind of mix in Natalie Portman bail thor rocket groot while I wonder who helmed that aspect of infinity war because the Russo Brothers did bring in the directors from the other films to help him right those movies. Yeah that's kind of was at a mix of tycoon. James Gunn or was it more roussel brothers at at influence over that storyline. Well that's the thing to. Everybody looks at Ragnar Apple. Those scenes in guardians with thor and the Guardians. They do work so well. And there have been reports that James. Gunn helped them to write it. And that's the effort that they make these directors how they have no ego where it's like. Yeah you know these better you handle that but it just fits so well because Ryan Rock. Everybody was like oh so influenced by guardians of the galaxy. Now Taika was able to seamlessly. Step in. So what your? What was your point your question now seeing who had most influence over those scenes because like I said it's guardians and thor they T- they heighten it a bit but the MC is comedic. They have those comedic vibes and themes throughout their movies. So I I love it. Even if it's a small little cameo or just in the beginning I think it let something nice to it. Maybe they just go on the adventure for the whole movie too. That'd be surprising but the CAST is getting Kinda big here because we do have Christian Bale. It's like ten seconds in the beginning. Yeah no Texas when you get there. That's the people are saying. It's probably going to be like doctor. Strange Cameo on that either. I always love when they connect the universe in those small. Little ways Yeah I of people being upset about this though. It's it's it's mind boggling to me. Well how does this? What would like what are you going to your mom? We'd be like bummed out mom. Why because Thorn Gordian Group being the same movie I guess? People don't like the Guardians.
