"Discounts not available in all states and situations. So Lawrence is worth noting here that the F one experiment on ESPN has also been working so far. By the end of the season, numerically we're talking about as many as a million viewers tuning in on the Sunday mornings to watch these races, which is super encouraging for a sport trying to grow in this nation still specifically. And so how do you explain the why, why in this fragmented sports and media landscape is F one working, do you think? Well, what a fundamentally comes down to is the owners of Formula One Liberty Media who took control of the sport in 2017, targeted the United States as an area for growth. And part of that is the new races. We've got Miami, came on last year. We got Vegas coming in this year. A big part of it was drive to survive, the Netflix show, the realization that you have all these wonderful characters in Formula One. Well, how do you get them across to somebody who doesn't want to sit down and watch 20 cars follow each other around a circuit every Sunday morning? Well, you put cameras in them, you have fly on the wall, microphones where they can pick up the conversations, the bits where the true characters, the true personalities come out. You make a soap opera lords. You make it soap opera. You essentially do make a so forth. And then we were very lucky in the regulations kind of created a situation where in 2021 we had one of the best title battles of all time in Formula One and I'm not exaggerating by saying that between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton where it came right down to the final race right down to the final lap. Here comes Lewis Hamilton though down the back straight. He's got a slipstream. He almost touches Verstappen. They almost make contact into turn 9 Verstappen stays ahead of Lewis Hamilton of all the drama of all the controversy of all the magic moments in Formula One in 2020 one. It comes down to this. And so I think a lot of people were hooked on that point onwards. But the championship can only be won by one and it's going Dutch in 2021. Max Verstappen for the first time ever is champion of the world. Well, let's talk about the americanism, though, the increasing americanization, so to speak of the sport insofar as, hey, in November, there's going to be this Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is going to be scheduled to run annually through 2025. And so Vegas as this next sort of pin on the risk board for Formula One, how did that specifically come together? Well, from one wanted, they said, destination cities. That's what we want. We want to host races on the streets of destination cities. And there is in the United States, Las Vegas is right up there as someone from the UK. It's a place that has always lived large in my imagination and I have visited. And so it's a place that I think you can really build a lot of excitement around the fact that they're going to be racing down the strip past some of the casinos. Right. I mean, one of the visually arresting aspects of this sport is that when you do flip it on early in the morning and ESPN, you will suddenly find these cars racing through actual cities. Like not on a track as in NASCAR, but sometimes through a historical town, somewhere, but in Vegas, this would be them speeding past like the Bellagio fountain in a literal way. That's right. And doing so with very little margin for error, a factor or a characteristic of a street circuit is that you have concrete barriers right next to the track. Now, lots of purpose built tracks we go to. So places like Silverstone Monza, you have these big areas where if the cars have an accident, they have plenty of space to essentially stop before anything else happens. A street track, it's right there. The barriers are right there by the circuit. And Las Vegas, I think, is going to be like that. Of course, there will be safety precautions in place. It has to be signed off by the FIA, which governs safety. But it's going to be a high-speed circuit with long straights, 90° corners for the most part. With Las Vegas, they've made real efforts given what they're dealing with, which is basically retrofitting a race circuit around a city, which is not an easy thing to do. They've made big efforts to try and make it exciting to make sure that when F one does turn up to Vegas among all this hype, it delivers and it delivers good racing. Yeah, Lawrence, at the end here, it occurs to me that the job you have is pretty remarkably different in perception than it used to be. You describing going to Vegas, taking these trips around the world to Monaco, you're in Bahrain right now, your expense reports must be pretty wild, but also I imagine when you explain what you do to people who are on the outside, there's probably a different set of reactions than when you first started. Well, it's nice in the United States. I went to the first race in Austin in 2012 and it was really a case of people not knowing what Formula One was. You'd say you work for ESPN informed one. There's no DSP bit, but they wouldn't know the formal one bit. That's certainly changed. I love sharing my passion for the sport with other people. I love trying to get them excited about it. Trying to get them into the engineering side as much as the sporting side in the personality side. The great thing is, is that the more people get into it, the more they want to know about that kind of stuff. You know, there's one thing watching a race on Sunday and

"Win. He was a very good racer himself, but never quite made it to winning championships. But with his son, you know, I mean, call it tough love, called it slightly worrying in some aspects. He just made sure that his son was out there doing everything he needed to do to win races and to instill this winning mentality in him and you know what it's worked because max is a winning machine. It's all well that ends well. Form hags Verstappen, taking the line, winning the Belgium Grand Prix. It's a 9th victory in Formula One in 2022 for the reigning world champion. If Red Bull is now the clear favorite, I'm wondering, where are the tensions underneath the surface here? Like maybe they are expected to dominate, but what are the potential challenges here? Well, one relationship that every Formula One team has to manage certainly when you start winning races and going for championships is the relationship between the two teammates. Right, because each team in Formula One has two drivers on the grid as they call it. Then mince work together. You know, that's what every Formula One team wants they want their two drivers working together, helping to develop the car coming back with feedback to make it go faster. But of course, they're also fighting each other. And when you're going for wins and championships, they're fighting each other for their childhood dream, a title. In max's case it will be a third consecutive title, only four other drivers in the sports history of achieve that. In Sergio Pérez, czecho Perez is Mexican teammate, the dream is just to win the first title. We already saw last year that there were a few fireworks along the way at the Brazilian Grand Prix by which point max had already sealed his second title. He was running ahead of his team mate and in a teammate scenario Red Bull were trying to allow Perez to secure second place in the championship. And so he needed all the points he could get. So the team asked max, can you move aside? Let check go through. It's the last lap of the race. We want to get the points for Perez. And max didn't do it. Max, let check go through please. Max what happened? I told you already last time. You guys don't have to ask that again to me. Okay? Are we clear about that? That says a lot about his winning mentality. But at a time when Red Bull had won a championship, won both championships both the drivers and the constructors championship, they were still having to deal with the relationship and manage the relationship between their two drivers. Yeah, look, underneath the hood, I'm using an inadvertently all of these puns, but underneath the hood of this sport, there are familiar ego management dynamics that you find in sports and the name that I feel like the ego that I think the most casual fan knows about is Lewis Hamilton, who you've already mentioned. And Lewis Hamilton, what his ego took in terms of a hit last year is staggering, right? I mean, he was winless, Mercedes, as you said, was third behind Ferrari and Red Bull. This was after a decade of just utter dominance. And so at 38 years old, as the record holder for most races one ever, as arguably, yeah, the best to ever do it, Lawrence. Is this the end? Not to go Tom Brady on him, but does he have another run in him? Where are we with Lewis Hamilton? very good question. And when you say witness, winners for the first time in his career, every other season in his career, he's won at least one race, and he didn't last year. And you're right, that was very, very tough to take. And it wasn't his fault. He didn't drive in a way that was really any worse than previous years. It's just the car was not capable of competing for victories last year until the very end of the season when his teammate George Russell took a victory in Brazil and I don't think that went down particularly well with Lewis and Eva. So yeah, it's tough. And is he going to retire? Well, he said, very open need that he wants to extend his contract. His contract currently comes to an end at the end of this year. He sees several years more in the sport. And I think he realizes that if he is going to win another championship and it will be an 8th world title, which is a record, because at the moment he's tied on 7 titles with Michael Schumacher. So if he's going to come back and win more titles than any other driver in the history of the sport, it's probably going to take a few years. So I don't think we've seen the last of those Hamilton yet, but look, if the car is uncompetitive again this year, it will be very interesting to see how he deals with it. And so the third team at the top here, Ferrari, I do want to put a button on them. I understand they have these two talented drivers. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, but what needs to actually happen for Ferrari and those two names to make an actual run at Red Bull. Well, they nearly did it last year. So last year at the start of the season at this time of the year, they were the team to beat going into the first race. They won the first race. In fact, they won two of the first three and Charles Leclerc had a big, big lead over Max Verstappen after four races. So they always had everything they needed back then, but Ferrari, I don't know. It's something about that team where things just tend to go wrong fall apart be at the strategy. They had issues with reliability. And as I mentioned earlier, they've come so close so many times over the past 13 years, which is the period in which they haven't won a title. They've been runner up so many times. But they've never just quite had the edge. And I feel like maybe it's still missing. At the end of last year, team principal matia bonato he was basically pushed out, officially he resigned and they brought in a team principal from a lower team, Alfa Romeo, a guy called Fred for sir. Probably a more charismatic individual and has shown real strong leadership skills. Having seen the way he's approached to start to the season, the way he's been able to put a slight cap on expectations while also addressing some of the issues that were there from last year. I feel like he could be the right man to make that extra step for Ferrari.

"Because it is the story of a niche sport. Long beloved by science nerds. Overseas. That has become a reality show, unto itself. In these United States, and so today, ESPN F one editor Lawrence edmondson catches up from Bahrain on everything we need to know before the season starts on Sunday. And he tells us exactly how much has changed. I'm Pablo Torre. It's Thursday, march 2nd. And this is ESPN daily. The basketball and hockey seasons are heating up and baseball is just around the corner and nothing beats seeing your favorite team live. So make up for lost time and go enjoy a game. Vivid seats. Life happens live. So Lawrence, I should be clear that Formula One is this global enterprise that has had hundreds of millions of fans all across the world, which is part of the reason why you find yourself in this Middle Eastern country right now on the Persian Gulf, getting ready to kick off the new season in Bahrain. And that location as the place where F one begins its season. What do you make of that? Well, we've got used to the season starting here in Bahrain and really the reason we're here is the money that they contribute to Formula One in order to get that first race of the season reported to be around 45 million a year. Right. It's still great, a nice fight because you come here and the weather's very good. Formula One teams when they're testing the cars, which is what they've been doing in the build up to this first race. It's like a science experiment. You want to remove variables as much as possible. So if you go testing in Europe at this time of the year, you can have rain. You can have freezing cold temperatures in the morning. We've occasionally had snow testing in Spain at this time of year. So coming to Barra and they have all the variables level so they can get a really good understanding of their car. The last time I had you on the show, we sort of marveled at the arc of your career watching this thing, go from truly an obscure niche thing in America to know something that is searching in the United States itself, but for the people who are still on the outside of this who are in the general audience. Just give us the kind of pecking order here at the top in terms of these racing teams. I know these are companies that we've probably heard of in different contexts, but explain how 2023 is looking for all of them. Well, if we trace back to 2010, there are only two teams that have won championships. So we're talking 12 years of racing and only two teams of one championships. And that's Red Bull who we talked about a little bit with Max Verstappen, of course, the reigning champions. And Mercedes who we just talked about as well. And then the other big player is Ferrari, but they have a one a championship for 13 years. They finished runner up 6 times in that period, but they've never quite got it together. But the thing about Formula One because it is such an engineering led sport. You do end up with periods of dominance because when one group of engineers gets it right, they tend to then unlock more and more performance from the car. And the regulations informed one are quite restrictive, but once you start to understand them and once you get a really good concept going, you'll hear teams talk about this a lot. They're car concept. And once you have that, you can start to pick away more and more performance. Anyone that isn't doing that at the same rate gets left behind. So if you're a team that's picked the wrong concept at the start of a new set of regulations, not only do you have to figure out why you then have to unpick it. And then you have to try and get back and catch up with the team that's got this brilliant idea that's unlocking a huge amount of performance going forward. So you really do end up with this big split between what we have to talk through teams, Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, and the rest. But it's very funny to me. Again, as more of an outsider here that like, yeah, Ferrari, McLaren, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, just not fast enough, Lawrence, like sorry, sorry to these brands that I only know is being like the fastest cars in the world. They aren't up to snuff because there is something essential about this sport that's different from the way we talk about like the NFL, for instance, being a copycat league. It's actually really difficult, it seems to be a copycat here when your engineering secrets are in fact secrets. Exactly. And once you're copying, you know you're already behind because the other team has figured it out already and are on the next stage of that development path. The other thing I should say is that the margins are very, very small. When we talk about the margins between finishing in the top ten in qualifying, which sets the grid for the race. And the bottom ten, we could be talking about half a second difference in lap time. So the time it takes to do a 3.5 mile circuit, the differences are measured in temps of seconds. So they're not far off, but unlocking that last little bit is the key to Formula One. So here's where I want to introduce or reintroduce the sheer human element here because Max Verstappen the name that you mentioned, the name that a lot of casual sports fans now know as this young 25 year old star, the sun in the Red Bull solar system, who has won the individual championship two years in a row now. There is the constructors championship, the team championship, which Red Bull one, snapping Mercedes is run of 8 straight titles, but Max Verstappen having this individual run now. I want to understand what he is like as a person as a driver. How do you put into perspective what he's currently doing? It's very impressive. One because of his age, he's some way off the big records in the sport, the hundreds free victories that Lewis Hamilton has to his name. But because he's so young and the trajectory he's on and how easy it all comes to him, I kind of feel like he's got the potential to do it if he wants to stay in the sport for another ten years or so, which is entirely possible his age. What's he like as a person? What's he like as an athlete? Well, he is just a 100% dedicated to this sport. He absolutely loves racing. To the point that when he's not racing on the track in real life, he'll often be at home in his gaming chair simulates or whatever you want to call it, racing against people online. Wait. What is max for stop and actual F one superstar like in video games? He's very demanding, in fact, just like he is on the real circuit. He took part in LeMond 24 hours style online race over the winter and his server kicked him off and he got very upset about it. This is just incompetence. They can't even control their own game. And this is already the third time it just happens to be now that get kicked off the game while doing this race. Honestly, it's a joke. It's not even you can not call this an event. The clown show. If you want to try and understand Max Verstappen, you have to understand his relationship with his father, who is a previous Formula One racer, raced from 94 through to about 2003.

"Learns edmondson, I don't know a ton admittedly about the country of Bahrain, but I do know that it is in the Middle East that you are there right now and that is also where the Formula One season is about to start this weekend. And so as you were at the precipice of this season and you're surveying, not just Bahrain, but the whole season in front of you. What are the big headlines here? If you had to boil it down, that are going to be of our interest in 2023. There's a huge amount to look forward to. We have 23 races, which is a record, and one the new ones is Las Vegas. For a long time, F one's been trying to get itself into Vegas, obviously into the U.S. market. We have Miami as a new race last year. We've had Austin since 2012. So three races in the United States and it's the penultimate race, so we could have a championship battle by that stage. So that's something that a lot of people are very excited about. And then at this time of the year, there's always the question of who's going to be able to challenge for titles. Can anyone beat Max Verstappen? Max Verstappen has taken the checkered flag to win the Japanese Grand Prix. World champion. Well, what can I say? Incredible, of course. Last year, they changed the regulations. So the parameters by which you could build these cars, the rules by which you could build them, they changed. And the idea was to improve the racing to make it more exciting to allow the cars to go wheel to wheel with each other. As a Dutch driver, a Dutch national and it is double Dutch delight for Max Verstappen, who crosses the line to win the Dutch Grand Prix. Fantastic, isn't it? Red Bull got it right, and they really got it right. We've seen Ferrari and Mercedes struggle a bit last year, with various different things. Mercedes did not get it right. They got it very wrong. In fact, to the point that the car at certain circuits was almost undrivable. Lewis Hamilton has crashed, has gone into the barrier. Let's hope that he's okay. I can see the crash out seems going to this part of the year hoping that they're going to do better than last year, but of course not everyone can improve on last year. Some teams have to lose out. So for me, the big question going into the season is can anyone catch up, learn from the lessons of last year and take the fight to Max Verstappen?

"To change my mind as I get older, but I just know that myself, I've got kind of an addictive personality. My immediate thought was, well, why not put a $100 down then? Right? Because then you make 4000. I mean, so I would just be, I just know that I don't trust myself to gamble. I would probably lose too much money and be stupid and aggressive and think I'm right and so I just don't even go there at all. I don't allow myself in that world. I don't take sponsorships from that world. I just stay away from gambling completely. And I don't know, but I got a text from my buddy yesterday was like, hey, I was talking to someone at FanDuel the other day about you and they said you know, they were frustrated by a little bit, because you don't take any gambling sponsorships. And I was like, yep, and I just don't feel comfortable with that. I've turned down a lot of money in my career, and my dad is like, dude, take the money, be a mercenary, and I just, I don't, I don't want to do that. I don't want to, I don't want to promote something that I think would be bad for me. So if I don't use it myself, I'm not promoting that on my show. So I stay away from gambling and it's pretty weird because they're the biggest sponsor in the sports world, right? Like everybody has a gambling sponsorship on their show. And I can sleep at night. I try to stay away from it. I think it's bad for me. If it's bad for me, I'm not promoting it to anyone else ever. So I hope people respect that. And I don't think I'm weird. I mean, I am weird, but whatever. Okay, let's end the show with this today. Sorry, if you had to put a warning in, so I'm going to go back and make a cut here. I'm going to talk about Formula One now for the rest of the show. If you don't like Formula One and you've had a good time, hey, I appreciate it. Have a great day. "That's unheard of. That means you've been from the moment you set foot in the Formula One world. You are winning and doing very well. And man, here's the 11th one I want to add, add on top of all the records Lewis Hamilton has put out there. He is amazing. I don't know who you, is it Michael, is Michael Schumacher? Is it less handling is the best ever? I don't even know how you do. I don't know he even determined that. The different eras. I don't want to have that debate. I don't really care. But the thing that Lewis did that I will never forget. And I don't really know that max is going to win another world title. We see often it took everything and then some like max needed a lot of help. To win this world title, not to mention those two. So Nicholas Latifi, the race stewards. It took Sergio Pérez. I haven't even talked about surgery over a Sergio Pérez was just amazing. Slowing down, causing trouble really backing down Lewis Hamilton, there was a moment where max was behind Lewis. And checklist in first and check up Perez really was probably the best of racing I've ever seen from Sergio Pérez, just would not allow Louis Hamilton passed a minute. It allowed Max Verstappen to catch up and close the gap from third to second to get closer to his Hamilton. And that's because Sergio Pérez was in the first slowing down. It's amazing amazing crowd. I feel like I'm so sorry. Haven't even talked about Sergio Pérez, and the amazing, the teamwork. And what he brought and so many people allowed and helped Max Verstappen in winter world title that would not have happened without them. He needed a lot of help. And so I don't know that we're going to see another world title for Max Verstappen off. Do you see great drivers? Can we reichen in one only one? And can we write it into a great driver? I mean, this happens a.

"Controversial way. And I'm going out of my way to talk about Lewis before max because it really impressed me the way Louis handled what happened on Sunday. He was gracious, he was respectful. He was celebratory of max. I honestly, he handled losing that way way better than I would. I'm pretty sure I would have lost my mind. If I lost the way Lewis Hamilton lost on Sunday. And he is a better man than me. I just was blown away. By the way, Louis Hammond Hamilton handled all that. Now here are the two big moments of controversy among others. I want to highlight from this race. Number one, early in the race, Max Verstappen passed Lewis Hamilton. He made a movie dove inside and he kept all four tires on the track, Louis lost his positioning. Louis ran wide. And then continued off the track and just took a big lead over max and continued off the track. And my mind took a lasting advantage. Now, Lewis by the race stewards Michael Massey Lewis was not forced to give the spot back. I thought Mac passed Lewis and then said, ah, you know, dipping out, left the track. Satan first, and they will argue Louis slow down a little bit to give back the gap that was like, I don't agree with that. I thought that was a bit nonsense. I'm like, I think Louis should be forced to. Give that spot back. But it's funny how I remember being really frustrated by that moment early on in the race and then that moment with max and Lewis max passing Lewis and I feel like getting screwed over a little bit by the race stewards. That moment feels so small and inconsequential compared to the second controversial moment in this race, which was basically won the race. I mean, there were 6 laps left..

You have this great commodity, this really fantastic quarterback. Don't screw it up. And I think Jack's screwing it up by hiring the wrong guy. It's going bad man. Gardner menchu, I don't want to bring this up. But Gardner to start his career, looked way better. Than Trevor Lawrence did, and it's not because Trevor Lawrence is terrible. It's not because he can't play. It doesn't have a good arm. It's because the things around him are somehow even worse than they were around Carter Mitchell. That's bad. I don't know why we're hanging on to urban Meyer. I don't get it. SHAD Khan, the owner, it's like, I'm gonna take my time and do the right thing. I think the right thing is getting out of there now. I think the longer urban Meyers in Jacksonville, I said a weeks ago, and people were like, pushing back. I don't really care. Those people that were angry when I said urban Meyers should be fired after the weird cheating scandal after Thursday football. Where are you now? Do you finally see things the way I do? Do you also think urban Meyer should be fired? Because if you're a Jaguars fan, and you're actually either you're an urban Meyer fan or you're a Jaguars fan. At this point, I don't think they have the same interest. An urban Meyer fan wants urban Meyer to be employed. I don't know why it would be an urban Meyer fan. I don't know what he's done ever really to make you like urban Meyer. I certainly don't respect him or like him. But if you're a Jaguars fan and you want what's best for your football team. That person doesn't support over Meyer, right? There's no way. There's no way a person who wants what's best for Jacksonville. Also wants urban Meyer to keep his job, right? So I got a lot of questions. Please write and let me know what you think, but I'm over urban Meyer. In Jacksonville, he should be fired. Let's be clear. He should be fired. One topic left, guys..

And I think I did say this is episode 427 I want to start with the general statement. I think that there's something that's gone a little bit underappreciated this year in the football world. It's been an insane year. We're now through 14 weeks of NFL football. 14 weeks in four weeks left, and I have no idea what is going to happen. If we look at the AFC playoff picture, for example, if we started the playoffs today, the number one seed would be the New England Patriots. They are 9 and four. Behind them number two, the Titans are 9 and four Kansas City's 9 and for all so there the number three seed. The ravens are 8 and 5, they are the number four seed. LA the Chargers are 8 and 5 as well, they're the number 5 seed. Then it gets wildly interesting. You got 7 and 6, the colts are the number 6 heat right now at 7 6 also you have the Buffalo Bills as the number 7 C that would be the playoff picture of the playoffs started today. But then you have another set of four teams that are all 7 and 6. The browns, Denver, and Cincinnati. They're all three of them 7 and 6. And then behind them, the Steelers are 6 6 and one. And then still not eliminated. You have the number 12 number 13 seed..

"Now, here are the standings in Formula One after Sunday. The driver standing look like this. Max Verstappen is in first with 351.5 points. And second, you got Lewis Hamilton with 343.5 points. Vader Botox has 203 points in third and Sergio Pérez, the other Red Bull drivers got a 190 points in fourth place. And the team or constructor standings you have Mercedes, which is narrowly narrowly ahead of Red Bull Mercedes isn't the first place with 546.5 points Red Bull is in second with 541.5 points. There are only 5 points a part of each other. Lewis one, but Valtteri Bottas did not finish. So with max getting second and Sergio Pérez getting fourth in Qatar, Red Bull actually gained a lot of ground on Mercedes, and it's very possible we see a world where Lewis Hamilton could win the individual drivers championship, but Red Bull could still very much win the constructors..

"That was not a clear headed calculated Max Verstappen that caused that accident in Italy. So max got a three place grid penalty for the start of the next race in Russia. The best at max can qualify next week in saatchi is fourth in qualifying. And because of the penalty now, red win might also double up, they're like, hey, we're going to maybe start forth anyway. We're going to have a penalty of three place, grid penalty. Maybe we start max at the back of the grid because max is gonna need a fourth engine or fourth power unit at some point during this season. He's already had three power units he's gone through. He's on his third right now. If he has another power unit and uses the fourth, he's going to have to take a penalty like the alter Botox actually had in Italy where he started the back of the grid. And it's likely, again, the foresight for Red Bull is, hey, max is going to need a fourth power unit at some point anyway this year. Why not bite the bullet? We're going to get penalized anyway. Let's double up, take another penalty start at the back of the grid, and get him his fourth power unit now Versace in Russia. I think it's risky, though. I don't know that that's a good idea. I think it would be an unforced error to make that happen. I don't think it's a good idea to switch out your power unit before you really need a new one. Because what if max crashes and then ends up needing a what if he has his fourth one in saatchi? And then crashes and needs another one, a 5th one, later down the road. Later in the year. So I would wait to swap mine into Lewis does, because then you both take the grid penalty at the same time, both start from the back of the grid. Plus, again, max can qualify forth inside if he gets first place in qualifying..

"First, you're never going to regret. It took took a leap of faith and saying that. Hey, I want to go. Try this whole thing out and Italy and you know, my coaching career back home can wait, when it when it happens, it happens, but I ended up learning so much in Italy. It actually helps boost my resume and and I became a better Coach because of that experience. Yeah, my buddy Marcel one of my my close friends played in in the SEC at Missouri. I played with David Douglas in Portland and he is right now coaching in Spain in the Revival of NFL Europe and like he's like he's not making a lot but it's like, dude, I get to be in Spain and Barcelona coaching football on the beach like it's a Priceless opportunity for him as far as like life experience and just getting to play football or getting the coach football and be around the game. He says there's no. He's like all he can say is positive things. It's crazy how like happiest and how much he enjoys it. I'm in the food to me was the biggest thing like in Italy credible. Oh, just a regular pizza to them is like probably a top-five pizza in the whole country here in America. Like they take their food, very serious. It's very rich in nutrients and they got the quad ingredients and all that, but it's real. It's real organic natural. You know, ingredients, unlike how we just advertised that here at America and then we're just still using the same process foods they have real job. You know, natural ingredients and you can see them, you know, farm-to-table a lot of their Foods. James. I got to let you go you're amazing night. We've talked for, you know, between the time we recorded and the time you just talking about life, we talked for more than an hour. I want to say thank you, I really appreciate your time. And I just I see you're like living room open behind you. So thank you so much means a lot and I just I'm always rooting for you. "Amount of preparation before they get to college. And most of those students, go on to play big-time college football, whether it's SEC, Big 10, Pac-12, whatever it maybe that's kind of their Niche now, the varsity program is more structure out for your typical High School varsity program. You see around the country kids come from all over the world really some kids have never even played football before. And obviously, that Varsity program service is a whole different student. A Thursday. You know, then Bo scarbrough let's say who is you know a national team running back back in the day. So and then we have our post-graduate football team, which is a really cool opportunity for those people. They just feel like they didn't have enough opportunities offered chances, or maybe it was academics or injuries. We have the post-graduate football team, which Services, those student-athletes needs, or maybe they had a coded season taken away from them, the post-graduate football team is something. I feel like it's really beneficial to those student-athletes that use that. Do you have fun? Cuz I mean, I you're not a normal high school coach. You're not at dinkey, like frankly, Skyview High School. You're not a gym teacher on the side, like you get to work with the best in America at what they do. And sometimes in the world, I mean, is that fun to like have? Cuz it's a no, I mean, it's so crazy. You're twenty-four years old, roughly, you're my age and your the Special Teams coordinator your receiver coach work with these incredible athletes. Like how fun is that? It's incredible. And honestly it's what's the reason I do is because I log In every single day. And I only not only learned from the other coaches and learn from, you know, my own experience I learned from the players as well and I get feedback from them. I might teach them something, teach them a concept, teach them a technique. And then I'm like, what do you guys think of that? I want their feedback and their response because then I'm grown as a coach to. So it works hand-in-hand for me and that's why I love this job and I get the most out of it because there's a lot of high school football coaches out there that would love to be coaching at IMG Academy. And so, you know, I'm, I'm blessed to be in this position and I have fun every day showing up to work. Yeah, you have a job where I have a job to like this, where I look around, like so many people loved to do what I do and I'm never going to take it for granted. I love talking about sports. It's the most beautiful thing I could ever have as a career. And I'm sure you feel that same way just like, man, I'm so glad I get to do this month..

"Love lost right now. And you know, you crashed our guy and we were young Petty and steal fastest lap from you. Anything they can do these two competitors are neck-and-neck, their Christian Horner. The Red Bull team principal has been openly very, very unhappy with total will. I've seen them talk? Very friendly in the past, seems like all that's out the window right now. They are not happy with each other. They are going to fight tooth and nail to the end, it's going to be a very very interesting but this it's heating up and it's going to be very very interesting and intense from here on out. So that's one way that you know Formula One really really benefited from this past weekend at the British Grand Prix the second thing that happened. Yep. Is that the pack was brought closer together? The gap between Max and Lewis has been closed. I mean the lead Max leads Lewis 185 points 277 Lewis is now in Striking Distance of. And and even as someone rooting for Max verstappen, I acknowledge that's good for Formula One and that actually makes me happy because I would love to see Max for staff in win the form of the one title may I shamelessly admit that but what I do not want is a blowout I hate when one person wins decisively and it's not interesting and it's boring till the yet so and no I respect, dating wind but I if I'm honest with myself I don't enjoy that. I would like to see it had come down to the final race there within a couple points and I've wanted to matter all the way till eventually ended the season. I would like to see that. So when one guy is dominating the other, I don't love that. It's not my favorite thing in sports, so to see the the the Gap closed between these two drivers. That's awesome. No, Red Bull. Also only leads Mercedes now. 289 points to 285. Red Bull had a massive lead going into the weekend that lead is gone. Red Bull. Only got three points the entire weekend. They got three points from Max for staff and getting first. In the Sprint, Mercedes got three points as well in Sprint, qualifying because Lewis got, you know, they got second and third. So that's, you know, two points for second, one point for third three points total so that's neutralized, right? And wrong in the race. They got a total of 35 points for first and third place, and so Mercedes made up 35 points this weekend in their battle against Red Bull. So not only did the battle between Mercedes and Red Bull get tightened down. Also McLaren and Ferrari are very close together in the battle for third. Ferrari got second place with Charles LeClaire and 6 with Carlos Sainz, McLaren, got fourth and fifth Landon or Scott forth. Daniel ricciardo got V McLaren right now, is in third and form of the one with a hundred and sixty three points in the constructors. Standings, and Ferraris and fourth of 148 points. It's close, it's interesting. This battle between the my other favorite battle right now, inform, the one is this battle between Ferrari and McLaren? And so there's a lot of battles in Midfield. I don't need to go too much into it. I think it's interesting. What what's going on with Alpena is really interesting form. Bonds is making significant progress, but right now, the two battles at the top are dominating my headspace Mercedes and Red Bull, and Ferrari, and McLaren. And I just, I walked away this weekend thinking, like, this is really, really good for Formula One..

"And half now. And so, take everything I say with a grain of salt, but I to me it's not as black and white box, as other stuff has been in the past. And you have to point out that Max and Luis are both very, very stubborn drivers. And the reality is that neither guy was going to pull out of that corner. And man, I think about if the roles had been reversed, if Louis had been on the outside and in the lead and Max was passing Louis on the inside. I don't think Max would have pulled out either. So if the roles had been reversed, I think the same thing would happen but to the other guy and anytime Lewis and Max verstappen race each other. It's almost the game of chicken where it doesn't end until one guy pulls ahead or crashes. They're just neither, guys going to concede an inch, they don't. And then, you know, in the replay life. It looked like, hey, Max could have done more to give Louis more room and it looks like Louis could have done more to give Max more room so it's like I I don't know. This is very muddy and very ugly and I'm curious what other people will say. But these guys are so competitive. Neither guys going to back out of a corner like that no matter who has position. And so all all the only take away I really can make from this past weekend is is it Lewis as fault or not? Some people said, some people said no, What I do know is from here on out, it's going to be very very intense, this battle between Lewis and Max is heating up there, the intense rivalry there, Max's, angry and Lewis doesn't care. All I know is as a fan of racing that's going to make some really really interesting and dramatic storylines. Come in the future. Now, Red Bull had an awful weekend. Sergio Perez, find out during Sprint qualifying, his dnf put him in last for the starting grid on Sunday for the actual grand jury. He did not get any points this weekend. Sergio, Perez did not he finished 16th in the race. The only kind of positive you can find it all for Red Bull or Sergio. Perez is that often took a pit stop with stop at two. Laps to go. He sacrificed any chance at a top ten finish but what he did in that pit stop is get new tires and get the fastest lap. So we stopped Louis from getting points for a fastest lap that kind of stole a point from Lewis and he kind of he's like I'll sacrifice appoint for me if.

"And so I mean it's a weird conversation. I don't like talking about another man's money necessarily, but what I would like to see from Chris, Paul is to say I've made so much money in my bank career. I want to see Chris Paul, pull a Tom, Brady, and maybe put winning ahead of money for his whole. I mean, we've actually so many times, I've heard Chris Paul compared to Tom Brady. And the one thing Tom Brady is always done is said, I want to win championships and put that at the Forefront of every decision. He made with his career. Then it'll be interesting. Does Chris Paul do that? I don't know, but I'm really got, you know the same way. I'm really excited to see what happens with Ben Simmons. Like what's going? Is he going to? Where is he going to go? Who's going to take like, what's going to happen with Ben Simmons, in Philadelphia? I'm also wondering what will happen of Chris, Paul's contract situation, this offseason. Now we're real quick. I want to give a shout out to the Suns head coach Monty Williams. He went to the Bucks locker room and congratulated them in person, which takes a lot of Man, that's a tough thing to do. You lose an NBA championship and you go to the other team's locker room to congratulate them and that's almost feels like something. You really don't see. You see that in like literally baseball game and like when another team wins a tournament occasionally the coach go walk over and congratulate the other team. But here's a Monty Williams said in the Bucks locker room after the game. Remember the opposing team's locker room as they are wearing goggles? And there is tarps everywhere cuz they're about to shoot champagne everywhere. He said I want to come and congratulate you guys as a man and as a coach you guys deserved it and I'm thankful for the experience. You guys made me a better Coach. And you guys made us a better team that is Monty Williams, talking to the opposing team and their locker room after losing an NBA title. That's so classy, man. Let me love Monty Williams even more. And man, I really, I just wonder what's going to happen Phoenix next year. Other teams are going to be even better. I would imagine. I mean, there's just a lot the wet NBA West is up for grabs like a dog. Year and I would love to see Phoenix come back. I'd love to see Monty Williams win a title with this team. I'd love to see Devin Booker do well, let me see Chris, Paul get a title and I just woke up like what's going to happen? What is the future of the Phoenix Suns? Moving forward, will they be back? But of course, the story is Giannis and for many many, I mean, I years now, but I remember saying, like, can this be the year that Jonas can carry his team to an NBA title? He had helped but he watched him score fifty points in that last game six and you're like, it's just ridiculous. I I remember almost every year when I do like an NBA preview or talk about my thoughts on the NBA go, like, can this be the year Yiannis can push through and go from being, just a great player or two actually winning a title. And this is the year he did it off, he did it in his home City. And I am so at home, meaning like the place where he built his career and I'm so happy for you honest, and happy for Milwaukee. Correct? Congratulations to them the Milwaukee Bucks are a dog..
