"Time of mountain spindle in time. Almost do some seem better. Run away. Sleep better Stand still, I don't know. I've been told it's more wrong with the way to go to hell. Nothing thirties still. Hello, everybody and welcome in and welcome back into understanding CBD. Hello there. Max Sobel, Steve Woman Hello, Joy Beckerman. Pendant. Gentlemen, If you're just tuning in, we're talking live with the legend, Joy Beckerman about the purpose and promise of cannabis And that song was the Grateful Dead New Speedway Boogie. Joy. Tell us he really liked the Grateful Dead, huh? A real lot. You guys you kind of either, either. You don't like them at all, Or you could live without him or you are obsessed. And I am a total David. Yeah, that's great. I can tell. We've had a couple guests that way. Um Susan Leopold, unless you if you know Susan Lee apologies, an ethnobotanist and, uh, shadow um, you're from. He's a university professor in Maryland that has cannabis programs. NBC. Actually, there was a go arrundell committee. Anyway, We're getting sidetracked here, Joy. This is going to happen sometimes, but Anyway, It's fun. It's fun talking with you on the radio, and it's It's you're used to this right? You have a podcast of your own right? Tell us about that. I do have Baron is a podcast that I've been doing since I think June of 2000 and 19 and I and I do lots of, you know, educating and public speaking so very used to all of this and And tangents happen. I trust the plant during all those conversations well, and that's good. That's where we're going right now. I trusted the plan to I all weekend long I spent building a time machine for you build it out of hand by used the fiber. I used the seeds. I used everything actually had it like that. I believe it. You can do it all. And I'm turning the controls over to you because I'm sure you want to take us through a trip back in time before cannabis wasn't prohibited. And when the plant was expressing its true purpose, and really delivering on its promise, So I'm officially handing you the switch. You turn it on and go for it, Joy. All right, Mr. And I'm going to be mindful of time because what a journey it is so first, I like us to ponder when I tell this story just in America alone, although this plant, of course, is at least 10,000 years old, originating as far as we can tell in China, but let's bring it to America, Hempstead Long Island. Hence did county, Arkansas. Him dead. Texas Hill, North Carolina Hemp Field, Pennsylvania Guys, This plant has been a huge part of even U. S history. In fact, we wouldn't have the U. S. The Mayflower sails and all of its rigging and the clothes that people were wearing. And even the oak. Um, which held between the boards of the Mayflower? Of course. We're all hands. It was in fact of such Tremendous need for our nation's security that our very first cannabis law here in the United States was actually in 16 19 in the Jamestown colony, ordering farmers to make trial meaning grow of trial of the Indian hemp seed. Between 16 31 In the early 18 hundreds, We were actually able to use hemp as U. S currency. People paid their taxes with it. It was that encouraged and that of necessity. There were even times where we had periods of shortage in the United States between 17 63 and 17 67 is one example again in Jamestown or in various parts of Virginia. The farmers could even be jailed for not producing hemp. We depended on it that much and picking ourselves out of the U S. 1st 2nd because it comes back in the United States way analogous way when we get up to World War two, But in 18 12 Napoleon's war of 18 12 you put me in actually strategically invaded Russia to cut off the English Navy supply of hemp. Most developed countries, which time being all relatives, including England at the time still did not grow enough of its own demands. There was such a demand for him. I mean the world's supply of paper, textiles, all of those things And so they largely dependent on Russia. Napoleon was able to invade Russia crippled the English navy supply that was very strategic and successful. We'll put a pin in that in 18 50. Our own United States..

"Max Sobel. I am everyday people. Welcome back. Steven Waldman. Thank you, sir. We're talking today with Doctor and May Sonny and Natural path, Doctor. Big fantasy BD. On guard for the break. We were talking about how people do what kind of stress is there under? And typically, most people want a pill, The sob like a just a magic bullet. Just a pill for this pill for that Your practice is a little different than that. Can you explain that to us? Sure. You know, we all want to feel better fast. So this is something that I completely get. I mean, myself included, right so Certainly some of the things that I'm going to talk to my patients about are going to be. You know what kind of food going back to my experience of my first job, right? What kind of food are they eating, You know? Are they feeding themselves with nourishing healthy foods? Or are they eating a lot of Sugar and and carbs and drinking lots of soda drinking too much alcohol. You know things that are not helping them get where they're trying to go. Are they getting outside or they exercising or they connecting? Um, And for some people, meditation and mindfulness, you know, whatever it is, that's going to quiet them down. And get them out of that sympathetic. It's funny. It's called the sympathetic nervous system because sometimes it doesn't feel very sympathetic. Right, but it it that's our fight or flight. The opposite of sympathetic is parasympathetic. This is where we rest and digest. We have to use these dietary and lifestyle modalities to get people to be able to re integrate with their parasympathetic nervous system and quiet things down so Well, I may use CBD, other herbs, other supplements, occasionally even medication. If I need to. For me, I want those dietary and lifestyle things in place first. That's how we're really going to change things up and get where we need to go. We'll see you mentioned CBD. You said the magic words. So how does CBD fit into this picture? CBT is an incredible part of this picture. Which is why I fell in love with it right? I mean, I was talking about the broken or dis regulated stress response. Well, the system in our body that is most responsible for a healthy stress response is our Endo cannabinoid system, which I'm guessing you have probably versus your listeners on. But basically everybody hasn't under cannabinoid system, right? We actually make cannabis like compounds in our body. They're called Endo cannabinoid. And the end of Canavan noise or extremely important for how we respond to stress and therefore mood sleep in energy. And what CBD does is it goes in and it actually Supports the health and the balance of the end of Canavan oId system. So when I'm trying to get patients to do these dietary and lifestyle changes, which let's face it are not always easy, right? They may be simple, but they're not easy to really different things. Something like CBD. And often help the patient. And it certainly has helped me to be able to get into a space where I can start to make those kinds of changes because I'm starting to respond to stress in a more healthy way. The edge comes off of things. People aren't as emotionally reactive they can sleep a little better, which starts to become more of a victorious cycle towards health and healing. And so CBD, um Has been an amazing tool for me and my practice to help patients make those underlying changes that they need to make. And you know, we were saying I've been in practice for 20 years I discovered 75 years ago, Right? So I had 15 years of my practice with no CBD and five years with it, so I can say definitively. CBD has been a game changer for my patients and for my practice in this regard, added it Pop on the scene for you. So like you said in my bio, I've worked with different companies in the industry for many years, and I used to work with the biggest fish oil company in the country. And I had some friends who were working with them, and we're transitioning over. We're getting very interested in CBD. And these were very trusted colleagues of mine and They first suggested that I look at CBD in 2014. And I was like, Why, right? I mean, I was as uneducated as most people were at the beginning of this. I mean, I was like, I I don't need THC. I don't have a cancer practice. I don't have a pain practice, and they're like, no, no, no, no. No. And then they started sending me some things. No, educate yourself. There's a difference between CBD Nth. See, you know all of these things, and there's a big role for CBD, and it's not intoxicating. And I got interested and I started reading about it. I did what every good doctor does. And I tried it on my husband first, and he started sleeping. He when I met him, Um, he just Didn't sleep for a few hours in the middle of the night. He wake up wasn't particularly stressed out that he was, you know that he was identifying with he was just up. And CBD actually started got him back into a cycle of sleeping again. So I was very interested. I started using it myself started offering it to patients. Um and I live in Santa Cruz, California So people are pretty open. Yeah. Um and just started letting my patients teach me about it. Because again, this is 2015. There was like no clinical information for how to use this as a doctor to use the clinically. So I was making it up as I went along, and my patients were helping me. Did you find that your patients were bringing it up more often? Or did you and asking you about it? Or did you find yourself really recommending it more for them? Or was it a combination? In the beginning, it was May Um And then, of course, I mean, Have you ever seen anything skyrocket in into the mainstream? The way CBD has. I mean, in five years, we've gone from nobody knowing about it, too. Like, you know, Martha Stewart having a CPD brand? I mean, how does that When does that ever happen? So you know, it's somewhere along the road, probably maybe two years in I started getting asked more and now People see my website. They see the interviews and the information that's up there about CBD and people actually come to me to talk about CBD got it. That makes sense. I don't know how to use it. Yeah, which is which is really leading into my next question, And you gave us a good feel for how you're using it because it's a holistic part of your practice. It Z establishing a baseline with your clients and patients. But my question is. How do you recommend people get started with CBD? Yeah. I mean, I feel like you kind of can't go wrong if you start low and go slow. I think you know we are a We are a more is more kind of culture in general on by, think for a lot of people and again. I think it's different depending on what you're treating. But I think when you're treating sleep, stress anxiety, starting low you can off you will often be very surprised. How much benefit you can get from a small amount. So you know I'll have people for anxiety, for example, you know, Start is lowest 3 to 5 MG of CBD in a full spectrum extract on guy Find that you know when I create my way up slowly if I've got somebody with a lot of pain and inflammation and potentially chronic illness, particularly if there's if I feel like there's Um, neurological stuff going on. I do go higher, But most of my patients it's the slips, sleep, stress, anxiety, Triad and I can actually start low. Start low..

"Of alcohol because it helps regulate your mood, so whether your mood is really volatile or low. It restores it to balance out a home you a static level partner, actually smokable when we weigh when we fight, we smokable of DVD, and that helps mitigate things a lot. That's that's a really important point, cause all joking aside. I mean, the best way that I have ever described CBD for you for myself, especially is it just takes the edge off? You know, it just allows you to be a little bit more receptive to some other ideas. You know some more conversations, your waves or open kind of thing. I mean, that's how I see it. You know, and and and and, you know, to your point about you. I know you're passionate about full spectrum, you know, and I wanted to get into that because I know that there's a lot of products out there. Some of them are CBD. Isolate this, that the other we know if they go to technical, But why full spectrum? So research have actually shown that full spectrum, which is all of the plants, cannabinoids and Turpin's being president is not. It doesn't taper off in effect and a dose dependent way and what that means is isolate on Lee worked up until a certain point say, you take 100 MG of isolates. You feel in effect you could take 200. It's gonna be the same level of effect. It's not going to increase with a full spectrum extract. It increases those dependent Lee so there's no cap on the therapeutic effect. If you take 50 That'll be one thing. If you take 100, you'll have more positive effects. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. It was the time for the midway. So you're just joining us? This is understanding CBD on Max Sobel. You won't see your name. I'm Steven Wallman.
