"That's sports in a UT DOT COM and the reason why I'm having a Warriors Guyana no it it might seem kind of random but the other day I was thinking that the current Dallas, Mavericks remind me a lot of the Golden. State Warriors from around two thousand eleven two, thousand twelve when they had Stephan clay to stars. But still a very young team i. think that's where the mavericks are now and over the next three, four, five years they grew into a championship team and Really, a dynasty in the NBA and that's where we want the mavericks to gets. But right now we can we all can kind of see areas where they need to grow. The word that comes up a lot is young. This is a young team and I think the warriors from you know five six years ago were that same kind of in that same boat and so I wanted to get the perspective from somebody who covers a warriors to see how did they grow like what were some specific areas where they grew from that young team to a championship team? How did Steph grow from a young player to an MVP What were some specific things that we can look forward to? Fans or that we should. Expect to see or hope to see as these players grow and as they grow into hopefully a championship team. So it's a really interesting interview. We talk about that and there's one quote I ask him if you had to. List one thing that was the major difference between that Young Warriors, team and the championship team of two, thousand and fifteen. What was that one thing that one major difference and his answer I think is is huge. So make sure you listen to the whole episode..

"Would you give up? Xavier Woods the next two first round picks for the cowboys, a third round pick next year to get Jamal and on top of that. You have to pay him all right on top of all that you have to pay him very soon. And if if things go south with him, we saw how he acted with the jets, and I'm not trying to kind of ride both sides of the fence, but that's a real factor. And maybe that's just the jets of it seen a lot of players. Be Disgruntled with the way that organization treats them, but that is. That is an inordinate amount to any player and I think it was very wise of the Dallas cowboys to not be the ones to pay that price. But yeah so. It is what it is, but Jamal. Adams, by the way who does now play for the Seattle seahawks will take on the Dallas cowboys in week three the cowboys do visit Seattle and three soon posses in happened, so it will be interesting to say the least to watch Jamal Adams play against the Dallas Cowboys, considering especially what Earl Thomas did in the game. He played against the cowboys after they did not trade for him. yeah, so good types. Speaking of good times. We had a very time with Rebecca Lawson Genaro here on the podcast and. Get ready to learn about the Dallas Mavericks. It was a fun conversation and look I'm a Spurs Fan, but I'm a spurs fan. Mafsfan we are rare breed. We exist, so let's learn about the Dallas Mavericks here is Rebecca Lawson Genaro right here on the OCHO. Pleased to be joined now by the legendary, the iconic, the internationally famous the one, and only you've heard from her better half I hope short, say here on our podcast airways, the one and only Rebecca. Lawson Genaro are LG. Some strong initials, Rebecca how goes and great I Jay. Thanks for having me. I think you guys are the first husband and wife to both appear on our network, which is a pretty big deal. If I, say so myself well. We are both kind of a big deal. I think so myself to. To connect the DOTS everybody your husband. John is a big deal at espy nation. The bigger steal. Some would say if anyone asks if he asks rather at that's what I said but yeah, so John was on around the Super Bowl We were doing a lot of things together, so his voice was heard he and I I know we interviewed Cynthia Free Live together and we did a bunch of roundtables and things like that and so You know in typical. Genaro fashion everything. I've learned about your family. keeping things a little bit random a little bit off. Off The beaten path in a good spirit way, and so we tease this last weekend. This is our Monday episode, but we're recording on Friday the day after the Dallas Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Lakers in their scrimmage inside the bubble and I figured you know a lot of our fans love the Mavericks and so the restart is happening. You're the queen of all things. Dallas Mavericks So, what do we need to know like like? If anybody because I think there are a lot of people that now especially. Maybe if they weren't big fans or saying, there's nothing else you know I I want to get into this now. WHO's this Luca Guy? He thinks seventy seven cool on basketball uniform. For some reason give give us the four one one on the maps. The Mavericks Are Really Really Fun Team, and if you're just getting into them for the first time, or even if you're longstanding fan, this is in my opinion. One of the best times in in their history to be maverick Stan NFL if you will. Try to steer away from that because I think it's Corny, but sure and. On they have maybe one of the most, if not the most exciting young player in the NBA in Lugano, which who was the rookie of the year last year? Who is an MVP candidate this year? Who might even be a candidate for most improved player, even coming off his rookie of the year campaign into just one of the more elite superstar in the We'd already in his second year. they have a duo in Luca in kristaps, porzingis. The former nick who came over in a trade last year I was during the Super Bowl that that trait happened, but the one before this most recent, obviously yeah, exactly and so that that was a big deal, and they've been able to really take the season to gel on both dealing with injuries. When the NBA stop do now they both have time to get healthy and you know from what I saw. Saw last night. It's looking great, and they have a really great supporting cast around them to do a little lack in depth in some areas, but you know set career for anyone who watched the scrimmage last night, the brother of Stephan Kore- and is an amazing sharp shooter in his own right, and you know he's going to be a key piece for them to run through. Orlando this this restart. Restart of that and you know. Jj Buran has been around the team for forever veteran leadership. They just have some amazing pieces. It's really special team and you know they all love each other. They have fun together. If you follow them on social media, they're always doing hilarious things. You know hanging out together and it's just. It's just been a joy to watch not away the beginning of the season as they. They started to come together as a team. But you know just this bottle that they're all in together and the fund that they're having you know getting play basketball again together, and for those who don't know Rick Carlisle whose their head coach, one of the greatest coaches in the NBA, and he's going to be obviously one of the big keys to success well, yeah, the mavs have a youthful energy. My wife and I just moved with San Antonio forever very different than the spurs the Spurs. Have like I mean, even you know circa twenty fourteen when when they were still operating at an elite level. Road trips, they would. They'll get coffee together. They had like wine nights and things like that like they were very stereotypically old or older veteran..

"This six years moving up three spots from number ten last week to number seven this week perplexes me what did the Sixers do they increase their chances now this is power rankings which isn't exactly the same as handicapping chances to win championships but they go pretty much hand in hand are you telling me signing Ryan broke off this Australian three point shooter who's a liability on defense and was out there on the scrap heap the Dallas Mavericks who are having a pretty darn good season thought so highly of him did they release them and the Sixers pick him up off the scrap heap that he's a difference maker I get a date Ben Simmons now looks good in one hundred percent healthy and should be good to go but they did a power ranking just last week so what transpired in this last week did move the Sixers up in this one individual's estimation tell me nothing happened the ticket didn't add again other than Ryan Bocaue broke off which I don't think he's gonna get minutes here at all he's I think more of a safety net than anything else it may I. Kate Middleton who really open some people's eyes in the last month of the season before they shut it down or for Concord my eyes can't throw the ball in the ocean then yeah this guy is there just in case to be able to potentially step in but if the Sixers are healthy and have the players that they've had on the roster all year I don't think this guy ever gets off the bed so what was it did it would lift the Sixers up in anyone's if the

Thank you for joining us. As we've been doing throughout all of our episodes during this crisis I wanna make a note that it is a May Twelfth Today. The reason that important is because who knows how the world will look in a few days when this comes out but it is here. We are may twelfth about really Two months into this crisis in most intense form because there's actually march eleventh the day that the NBA was cancelled. So two months in mark of just from your perspective. All the different things you're involved. Then how does the world look to right now sort of big picture and with the businesses that you operate and invest uncertain confused hope cautiously hopeful looking for guidance? Looking for leadership. We just don't know who to trust with our lives effectively and that's keeping people from doing things the way we've always done them. So you invest in a lot of small businesses. Could you maybe give some specifics? About how your portfolio companies are getting impacted right now. What are the biggest problems that they're currently facing big? Promise that the fall in demand you know. There's just people are very hesitant when it comes to buying products and services right now unless they're related to things you can store in your home. You know the companies. I have that are selling athletic equipment. You know those are doing well. Companies THAT ARE SELLING FOOD PRODUCTS. Those are doing well. Companies that are selling pretty much everything else are not or their businesses down is some percentage so you know people trying to get. We're trying to gauge. When consumer demand will come back and that's the most difficult aspect of trying to figure out what's next so Hudson in your view what's been done from the You know sitting aside what the right approach to health prices. We've seen we saw the cares. Package passed at the end of March with the idea of helping least small businesses keep employees on payroll to not to prevent the unemployment crisis from getting worse and for people to have businesses to be to to go back to work to when the health crisis lives also seen a range of things from the. Fed in your view. How effective have those measures band? At least dampening the pain from this some some To some extent you know I'll refer to Mike Tyson. Who said everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth right and the cares package that the plan was great. The initial timing of it was great. It was it happened very quickly. The implementation was was too slow and so when we got you know the day the NBA was cancelled march. Eleventh and people started really realizing that there were issues that we're going to have to address from out perspective and then you know relatively quickly for Congress the beginning of April. We had a cares for stimulus but unfortunately from that point in time till the time small businesses small medium size is actually got funding was several weeks. Add to that the fact that there wasn't enough money add to that the fact that there was uncertainty about how the money can or should be spent and what would be the case for forgiveness and that caused a lot of small businesses to hesitate and that led to a scenario where you know a month in a month. After the cares OB- stimulus was passed. Businesses really weren't able to take the steps necessary to try to continue as much business as usual and that really created a cascading negative effect. That were still in right now. So the concept was good. The plan was good but the virus punched in the mouth and the execution was near where it needed to be.

Drones for helping the COVID fight

"Who would have ever thought that a drone could help in the fight against Kovic? Romeo Derbyshire is out there doing it. He works for. Dj The drone manufacturer. And he's going to tell you all about it today. Romeo Howard using drones to help in this fight Jefferson. It's good to see again. It's been a little while since the last time we talk. A lot has changed since and We're we're seeing this global endemic. That has a huge impact for so many of us. I'm but we're also seeing amazing ways that new technologies being used and integrated to help especially our first responders and we launched our disaster relief program for Colored Nineteen at middle of March to PR- provide fire departments and police departments with not only the hardware but also our suport on utilizing this to help fight covet in various different ways and part of the program was a pay it. Forward component in essence. The departments have to be willing to work with us to capture lessons. Learned we've also seen a department. That was extremely creative with the use of drones one of our smaller platforms. Maverick to enterprise used ability to put a speaker on it so you can do one way communication and after you know the first few weeks of people being at home not being able to go out. They came up with this great idea. If a child in their community has a birthday they can sign up on the on the website and if there is a an available police unit or fire unit. They will go to to the child's home and outside the home run the sirens and waste the kid and and wish you happy birthday but this department also used the drone with the speaker to fly on the front yard and sing happy birthday through the speaker and to me. That's a wonderful us because this is community building. This is something fun and put smiles on. Not only the people fate on the tug faces but also the parents and so that to me was one of the more creative ways now what happened in Tulsa in Tulsa especially in California but Often Tulsa. We'VE DENSITY OF HOMELESS POPULATION. And that's an at risk group of individuals not only uncovered nineteen but also around the entire rest of the year and so- drones are being used to help bring information To those homeless camps that sometimes are in difficult areas to get to. And you don't necessarily WanNa send a nurse or a doctor down the difficult path but if you create Station where they can come to that they know that. Hey we will. We have a nurse. A doctor on standby personal hygiene kits available for you have some sued and water And and Houston drove to to give that message to those homeless population camps. That's just another additional way to be more active and cover a much larger area in shorter periods of time. And when you're not doing public safety what are some of the images that you like to capture on your drum like the two right behind me? Riga Latvia and Coppleson Luca's in Mexico. I love aerial photography The creative aspect of areas to talk because Again you know for for so many years we have been taking pictures from an eye level perspectives. And now just going up a few seat a changes the way we can see our environment and then you can do create if things like in this one. I did the little worm hole where everything looks very different than in real life and you can be creative and can have sun and explore your environment from a different perspective. Just follow the local laws and regulations. And you'll be fine

Bluey was not the air and was never trained in the skills necessary to rule. It had been expected that he'd go into the Church so we spent most of his early life in monasteries. That changed when his older brothers suddenly died and Louis was thrust into the spotlight from the start. Their relationship. Louis was submissive. To and reliant upon eleanor when he accepted the task of leading the second crusade. Eleanor made it clear that she was coming along. It's not surprising given Louise Limited leadership skills and existent travel experience that the crusade was not a success. Eleanor is famously. Recorded by medieval historians treating the trip more as a big adventure than a serious endeavor brought more than three hundred ladies in waiting with an accompanying baggage train spanned miles still the same historians. Note that eleanor was a better leader and more respected than her Mika's even though the crusade was a series of misadventures eleanor managed to increase her social capital during the trip while Louis was continually marginalized by the time they reached. Mavericks & Legends: Anne Boleyn

"Today. We're talking about one of the most controversial figures in English. History person to and fall from power. Were extremely dramatic. She helped bring about England's split from the Catholic Church became the queen of England and had a daughter who would serve as one of the most famous monarchs of all time. Her opponents accused her of witchcraft. And slandered her name and historians continue to debate her real intentions. Let's talk about the mysterious and Berlin and Berlin was born around the year. Fifteen hundred in Norfolk England. Her father was a respected royal attendant and her mother was the daughter of a powerful duke and spent her teen years at the French court as a companion for Henry. The Eighth Sister Mary who was married to the French king by fifteen twenty two and was back in England. She wore glamorous French clothing and copy attention of many suitors. She even caught the eye of King Henry. The eighth himself and may have I come into contact with King Henry after acting as the lead in a court play in fifteen twenty six. At that time Henry was still married to his first wife. Catherine of Aragon though the pair had a daughter they had been unable to produce a male heir to the throne and Henry was getting desperate. The story goes that Henry tried to make an his mistress but she refused to sleep with him out of wedlock. That may have served to increase. Henry's infatuation yet. Divorce wasn't an option. As Henry was a devout Catholic. Henry attempted to get his first marriage annulled but the pope refused his please. An may have inspired the eventual solution. It was the era of the Protestant reformation and and gave Henry a copy of a book called obedience of a Christian man. The Books Protestant author argued that kings were actually the rightful head of the church. Not The pope. This book greatly influenced Henry who ignored the pope's wishes divorced Catherine in fifteen thirty one. An Berlin married King Henry. The eighth in January fifteen thirty three the next year Henry broke away from the Roman Catholic Church and established his own. The Church of England. This move caused conflict in the country for the subsequent two centuries after her marriage and helped gather and support a new royal court that bolstered. Henry's decision to found a new church. Not much is known about Ann's time as Queen but she may have helped transition monasteries into a new role as educational institutions. She and Henry had a daughter Elizabeth I but they struggled to have more children. Henry was starting to doubt the marriage. He waited so long for to make matters worse. The separation of church fueled foreign enemies and incited domestic opposition. In fifteen thirty six and was charged with adultery and plotting against the king. She was locked in the Tower of London. The king ignored olivennes protests. She was declared guilty in a bias trial and sentenced to death. She was executed by sword in. How the Warriors stack up against Jordan's Bulls

"Everybody in the free world. Watch the last dance the other night. It appears Draymond. Green did too and draymond green went on a podcast yesterday. uninterrupted W RT s after. Show party with Paul Rivera and Maverick Carter. No less And he likened their last season with Kevin Durant the warriors to what he had just watched on. Tv with the last season of the Bulls and he didn't hold back and he said one of the things from watching it. Was that what you saw? Is everybody kind of set it up like this is going to be the last year and so there was none of that elephant in the room hanging out there for their team That last warriors team with Durant and said that you know. Steve tried to deal with it but Kevin was asked about it every day. Dream on saying I want to be a warrior for Life Klay say and I want to be a warrior for life and then there was this elephant in the room the entire year and it was almost as if he watched the last dance and thought Jeez They handled that a lot. Better like hanging out there the whole year. Everybody knew that was going to be the end and so they just treated it that way the whole year. What you guys think. I mean ownership didn't handle it better. The player of the players may have the players may have handled it at worst. And Scottie Pippen you know getting the surgery when he did wanting out you know Jordan thinking was selfish but ownership on the warriors side of things. At least their goal is building with sustainability. They WANNA keep steph curry and Klay Thompson and continue winning. Reisen Dorf in Krause and the Bulls were ready to pull the plug after the first three championships. Trying to trade pippen for camp granted that still a win but then after it it's about China. Tear Down Arriba. I don't see that from the warriors now but it is fascinating. How much history has repeated in some ways with the disease of more and whatnot that manifested with Katie? Always being jealous of steph curry in the spotlight that he received and you look at what the Bulls went through in the nineties. I it is hard to see the parallels from the players side. We think I didn't see it. I just think Jerry mind was a I think he was a little narcissistic with it is totally different situation. Durant in that situation is basically the Rodman character. Rodman was on the Bulls for three years. Durant shows up for three years pushes him to another level but other I mean the bulls thing was so different Jordan and pippen were together for you know twelve years and there were Phil Jackson for. I don't know it was at least nine or whatever and everything was the same and they were just going going going and they had all these different ups and downs and that warriors thing you know they durant was on that team for blip was if you add up when when he actually showed up and then when he left. It's less than three years. It's like thirty months It's not a perfect comparable for for either team. But I do think you know the players you know seeking that attention. Wanting what's there's at I think with that aspect there's some similarities but overall though I mean I'm with you in the sense that ownership in front office objectives here are far different in what the Bulls wanted to do in the nineties with Crowson. Reisen Dorf is far different than what the warriors are trying to do with Myers and and warriors ownership. Now right I mean the differences with the warriors thing. It was one person undermining the whole thing. Durant yeah the Bulls thing it was. It was like a bad marriage with you. Know eight nine different people. All knowing like the marriage is ending and I think with the warriors they kept trying to pull durant back in that second season when he was there was when it started to fall apart in the third season. I still feel like they felt like it might be salvageable until they had that clippers game and then after that I think there are some similarities with the chemistry. Let's say let's say this. Let's say draymond. His way would have played out the way he wanted to write like. I don't buy for one second. If Kevin Durant started that season said this is my last year with the warriors it still would have been a problem like the right here the whole year by the way. He should have done that though. That's how he should have handled it and I think part of the problem is he didn't handle it that way. And you know the players and the team new organization. They knew he was leaving. They knew about all the New York stuff they thought it was gonna be the Knicks but they knew he was leaving. It was by especially by February march ever in the league new so I think from that standpoint underminded what's the elephant in the room. That draymond talking about that. You know what I'm saying if they all had this understanding Kevin. Ain't going to be with US after this year. Then why is he acting like it was a problem throughout the entire year? That Kevin was just saying Oh. I don't know we'll see we'll because I think Kevin probably agree with this. I think there was still hope that he might do a one eighty. You know I I think that. And honestly with the with the ninety eight balls and you're gonNA find out in the tenth part it came a lot closer to everybody coming back except for Rodman I I think they knew Rodman was done but I think once they actually won. I think there was a moment there where they were like Holy Shit. What are we doing? We gotTA defend this again.

You Don't Have To Be THE Leader To Be A Leader

"Welcome to day. Seventeen the lockdown here in Malaysia. And that is a quote. I picked up from Cuban on his twitter handle the other day. Those that don't know mark. He is the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks and also happens to be of course one of the shocks on the reality business. Show Shark tank and to me. It's a great way of I guess. Summing up what leadership needs to be at a time of crisis like right now especially pardon me especially a global crisis and one that's impacting and affecting just about every business every industry around the world because leadership conscious come from the person the front it has to come from every levels of an organization and every little group within the organization every subgroup within that. And that's just in a business context. The same thing applies in a social context in a family context. Leadership has to come from everybody in their own little way in every part of an organization or structure organism. It's the only way really that I think we're GONNA get through the Arctic and it's a great way to describe the type of leadership that is required and I guess some of the leadership needs at a time like right now.

"Six minutes and then didn't play again by yourself that Carl might be close to moving on from him. I'M GONNA sell because I'd I'd Carlisle gets these things in his head and he will ride it until somebody smacks him in the face in snapchat so he can snap out of it. I think we're seeing Justin Jackson for the rest of this year. Yeah I I I sell it. I think can't really suck. Yeah I I mean. I don't know like he might play fifteen minutes. He might play twenty he might start some random game like Jackson. You know you just know that. He is going to be out there every single game. And so yeah. I sell that okay. Last one over the last seven Games kristaps Porzingis is averaging twenty eight points ten rebounds and two blocks while shooting it almost fifty two percent from the floor and forty one percent from three buyers. Sell that Chris Stops is back. Oh are by it. I mean even if you look I know the last seven. Those numbers are good but if you look at the last fifteen games sound that the microphone. It was a lot more intense in the microphone. It's supposed to be but now I think he's back. As long as he can stay healthy. This is the guy that they thought they were getting. Yeah it's okay my only thing would be that Some of those games were without Luca. Like yeah but even with Lucia. I mean tonight. She's still at twenty four in the Alaska. Twenty seven okay. Yeah so I mean. I don't know if it'll be twenty. The thing is he always got his shots. Even when Luca was playing he was still getting shots. There's going in and now they're going in so he's going to continue to get his shots and I think he'll shoot a high percentage the rest of the year and and I don't know like seven games out of eighty two again. It's a small sample size but I don't know a seven games to me. Seems like enough to say like I feel like it's not even the total points per game? It's just when you watch him play. You See. He looks more comfortable out there. Yeah he's now taking advantage of mismatches. When he has a small on him he literally turning around and rising up over him his mid Ringo's in yes. His mid range game is coming around. He had a couple of post plays tonight now. They were fadeaway post plays but they went in and man's fans should be really happy about that because we spent twenty seasons watching the post up where it was just a fadeaway so it looked really good. He looks really good his shots going in. I definitely think he's back. Yeah he saw his last few games. Twenty seven this was so twenty four tonight and then twenty seven twenty eight eleven thirty to thirty eight thirty five and then before that nine fourteen. Fifteen twenty ten. Now he was out for like what was it. Ten Games or something with the knee thing. So the ten twenty fifteen fourteen nine. Those were the first games bag but then since then again thirty five thirty eight thirty to eleven so I mean I don't. I don't expect the thirties all of that. I don't know if I expect twenty eight but yet the rich wanted twenty s and on a high efficiency and his rebounding this season and blocked shots. He had five blocks tonight. And you know what I've noticed. Also he's actually a pretty clever passer He's doing a really good job when he gets the ball immediately. Passing it to the corner because he can sense or feel that that guy has leaked over and you saw in the last game and this one when Luca. Kinda dragged the defenders out to him on the double he threw it into porzingas but porzingas could feel the wing defender was on him or the defender and he immediately pass it over to Dorian for a wide open three on that note. He had five assists. Tonight HE F- five assists in the previous game. That was a career high so so he did it. He tied a career high but he did it again tonight. Just to aside. No can you believe the New York? Knicks traded porzingus and Tim Hardaway for Dennis Smith Junior. And two first round picks. I mean like it depends on how you feel about Dennis Smith junior but know how I feel about tennis junior as a player. So yeah it's I mean in regardless of how you feel about us nine point what he's doing right now so yeah that that was a steel. And I don't know if Donnie like just was like smooth talker or the Knicks are just stupid and and the pigs that they're going to get are GonNa suck because the mavericks are good so there's GonNa be like two picks in the twenties so the Knicks gave away porzingus for nothing. I mean honestly though they made the mistake that the mavericks make a lot a were like it was more about cap space for them like I think they were intrigued by Smith but I think the cap space because they thought they were going to get Kyri in durant. But this isn't about the Mavericks Failures. I'll say that the Mavericks won the trade. If they only got Hardaway Oh snap I mean? That's that's cold. That's cold Marty? But Smith I mean he. He struggles to contribute Smith sucks the NBA level. Okay he shouldn't be in the NBA. He might not be well. He can noted China and average thirty points. He actually actually would. Yeah like who is it. Oj Nearly Jim. Refer dead when over there drawing leg or something. Yeah so anyways. How do we start talking about that? Chris Chris tops has been so great for them. Yeah he's averaging nine rebounds a game this year for your heart. Yeah his career in New York. He averaged seven like. Is this deliberate or is this. Just the mavs system. I don't know I mean they score efficiently. It's not like there's there can't be that many more rebounds available but actually I WANNA see all. These are defensive rebounds or not even offense. It's not really a good offensive rebounder. Y- defensive rebounding yeah. His total rebound percentage has gone up so in New York. It was twelve and a half here. It's almost sixteen. Yup Well One thing. That helps is teams. Don't have a lot of biggs. They don't play a lot and so typically. He's the tallest guy I mean. He's always the tallest guy. But there's probably one other big that he's going to have to fight. There's not to like there used to be. Yeah that's true but he is. I'm not to take anything away from what he's doing. He's definitely been a much better rebounders than I was anticipating whenever we got him. I WanNa ask you a question so I think about this and then I never actually get the answer for myself. Do you think there's any team in the western conference playoffs that have no no let me reword that how many teams in the Western Conference playoff race have an elite big man like a real actual traditional or close to traditional big men traditional thing that I can think of would be Anthony Davis but he even does a lot of turnaround fadeaways. It's not like he's doing hook shots and we'll shimmied down. That's what I mean. But it's a guy like you know the seven footer. That Samson Davis is the first guy think of the West the have go bare. Yeah but he's not a offensive player true so he's really he's an all you guy but you're you're not just going to give him the ball and let them go to work so yeah okay now. The nuggets with Yoke Yokich yet. He plays a lot is in the post game. Yokich the clippers They have herald but he's not done. Exaud rockets definitely not the thunder Stephen Adams again. You Defensive Guy we're talking about well I mean I kind of mean both sides so I guess my quiet does it. Not Matter that he's not they don't play offense well. We saw the last time. We played the thunder. Stephen Adams was essentially taken out of the game of Porzingis The Grizzlies Oh they have. What's his cheer John? Tunis Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah Yoenis Eunice. The trailblazers does whiteside. And and your natch. Norwich is bad. I mean is he coming back? Okay and then the Pelicans Have Zion. Williamson was appointed. Yes my porn name every player on every team. Let's go through the whole league. My point is is kristaps enough because before it was like they had Chris Stops and Powell. They had kind of that size they had the two bigs out there and now is just Chris tops and they play five out a lot like do you see. Apply like say they match-up against any team in the playoffs. Not Not just who? They are right now but just any team in the playoffs. Do you see a match up where it's like. Ooh I wish we had more size. The only one would be the Lakers. But we haven't played the Lakers with the five offense as the Lakers. Already beat the Lakers. Twice yes and well yes. Okay well yet the Lakers. Also they won't be able to play to white and Anthony Davis on the court when they play the maps they won't be able to play both of them at the same time because of the spacing that the mavericks will ride. Maybe they'll just put Davis on Finnish Smith like the jazz put go bear on any Smith. Yeah but you're still pulling him a little bit away from the basket and yeah that's true. They could do that. But then Dwight Howard who's guarding KRISTAP. Is he going to guard kristaps on the three point line? Yeah and then you can't switch input Howard on finished. Yeah so it's to me. They would have to play the man style of basketball not the other way around. Okay mainly retort to that. Would be that the Lakers are forty one in twelve. I don't think they really need to adjust to a whole lot of teams. They haven't played with the five out. Okay and we've already okay. Jim Ones on their home court once at home. And then the rifts who rip that away yeah so we have shown that we can beat them. Now I'm not saying we're better than them. Were not right now but I think that we would provide a lot of challenges for them because they have this traditional lineup and I just don't know if they can score enough with the marriage am. I saying they're going to beat the Lakers absolutely not. I gotTA series. The Lakers would win but I think the man would give them a lot of challenge. I think what you mean. Like the principle of what they do and I think that's why you saw the rockets. Do what they did. And the Mavericks didn't have to make that trade in order to make that happen because they had porzingis. Yeah and honestly. The clippers are kind of close to that too. I mean. They don't have a very tall lineup. Now they're very long in athletic and just a bunch of good defenders and it's not even well. That's better than what the Lakers have. It's not about size it's about can you guard out on the perimeter and when you have two bigs out there like Anthony Davis in Dwight Howard or veil McGee. They can't guard out on the perimeter. Like that when the Mavericks Play Porzingas at the five in my personal opinion now I think they would find a way to beat the mavericks anyways but who knows. Yeah okay that's all I have. I feel like we kinda just got to talking towards the end but Anything else you have to add about this game that you want to say to our listeners. Like thank you for listening well Thank you guys so much for listening. We really appreciate it. "Twitter at underscores city Myers Martin is at Martin L. Myers. You can listen to new episodes and read exclusive articles at Dallas whose cast dot com. I just published an article today. That is a deep dive into Michael Kidd Gilchrist. Pretty much anything that you want to know about what to expect his strengths and weaknesses. Hit the shot like we have to talk about the shot. The shock of everything is is in this article so it's pretty long but there are there's Lee there's a table of contents link or links all of that at the beginning of the article. So there's something that you're interested in like the shot or his defense or whatever. Just click on that and you can read that section. I also included in audio version. So if you don't feel like reading the whole thing you just listen to it. It's a lot easier. I thought I would try it. If you like that feature. Just let me know I might do it for future articles but that's Dallas whose cast dot com Yes so let's get started the Mavericks Played The Orlando Magic Ninety. It was their first game. After the All Star game are all star break. They won one twenty two to one. Oh six it was a good win on the road. The magic aren't agreed team. They're twenty four and thirty two but wait on the raid. Yeah it was. After the break they showed a lot of focus. I didn't see any rust. Or you know any hangover from the party or anything it was. It was a really solid game And it was. I think it was a good win. We're GONNA talk about that. We're going to go over the good the bad and the ugly. We're GONNA do or sell some of the things that we saw in this game. Do we expect to see them going forward? But I I I do WanNa talk about Michael Kidd Gilchrist. Just because it was his first game. He didn't really play a lot of he played five minutes. I think let me see four minutes. He played four minutes. So there wasn't really. There's a whole lot to break down here. But it was. It was called to see him. I mean at least we got to see a glimpse of him. He wore number nine Which I don't know how I feel about that because yes that reminded me of Rajon Rondo but also I don't know what these times are correct because it says that Justin Jackson only played five minutes and fifty one seconds. And if that's the case that was the longest five minutes and fifty one seconds of the season. I mean we're GonNa talk about Justin Jackson in the good the ban the ugly thing but I think it's correct because no I it is. I'm surprised when I saw it. I felt like he was there for the entire game. But I don't think he got on the court in the second half who doesn't Jackson Michael. Yeah Yeah I mean. There really wasn't a lot to see from Kilgore is I think you saw basically what he does. Which is Defense? I mean he picked up Aaron Gordon Yeah I was GonNa say the ballot he picked up three fouls so it didn't go very well. On one of the replays we saw. He didn't even yeah. Yeah I don't really know what to expect from him other than his defensive abilities when you watch him play Modo surprise how long his arms are he does have a really high reach for a guy. That's six But I don't know where he fits on the team especially if he's a negative on the offensive side. I don't really know what their plan is for him. If they can't fix his shot I don't see him playing much this the rest of this year. Yes so about his wingspan. He has a seven foot. Wingspan for a six six guy. That's really long He actually has a longer wingspan than Dwight Powell. Who Six ten So that's that's pretty impressive and obviously helps him on defense. I think we'll see him more like when the mavs play a team. That's probably got a little bit more offensive wings. Obviously playing the clippers. He'll probably get some minutes in there to either guard. Paul George or Kawhi Leonard just because they have two guys that are really good on the wing but there may be games where he probably doesn't even see the four. Yeah and I think also gets more comfortable with the with the team and with the offense. I mean there's there's a possible which we'll talk about this. There's a possibility he doesn't ever play like assuming that he does. I think it would take him some time to get used to the offense. I talked about in the article. Like where exactly does he fit? Because you're rightly he's never really been an offensive player but honestly you know. Everyone talks about the shot. He's got this ugly form and all that first of all he's worked on it and so I have some. I have a video in the article that shows the form is a little bit better now But he actually like. There's other things that players can do on offense besides shoot and he's he's good at some of those like he's good playing off the ball. He cuts to the rim at the right time. He's very active He gets two right angles. He's always in the right place off the ball for easy looks. I mean it's not like he's dropping fifteen at night but for a couple of shots here and there he can do that. Yeah I I don't know how much time we can spend talking about. I mean I feel like we literally just broke down his entire offensive game thirty second. Clip that you just drop. So Yeah I do. You want to spend another twenty minutes talking about him. Well no we don't have to but it's just you know you were talking about his fit like does he. I would say that. I don't WanNa see Justin Jackson on the court again and now that we have another wing. I don't see the need. I don't. I was surprised when I saw him in there. And then it was in there for so long and I'm like why is he even out there? What was the point of signing? I would rather you just play. Michael Kidd Gilchrist. Even though he's no good on offense he's just a better player than Justin Jackson is and I. I don't know why Carlisle just will not let the Justin Jackson thing. Go Kidd Gilchrist if you give them minutes given confidence he is a better player than Justin Jackson. Which is not saying. No but if he's better play him now Justin Jackson. I mean the only thing I can figure is that like I said he has to learn the system and so until then you have to play somebody but I we were like you signed a play. Your and yet you're still gonNA play all your normal guys plus a new guy. Like who's minutes did he take? Will he take? I was just as confused. I thought in the first half now granted. Seth did not play that. Well in this game but you know. Seth is one of those guys that he is earned his minutes already so even if he's having a bad game he even in the fourth quarter he should still be out there because he's earned that right in my opinion and I felt like if Curry's having a bad game his minutes get removed And Justin Jackson will get minutes or Jalen Jackson got more minutes. Jalen Jalen Jackson. Brunson got more minutes. And I just you know. Just play curry more. And take that five minutes that you gave to Jesse Jackson and just give it back to currie or I mean curry played twenty-eight Gilchrist so like you know like you said there's not a lot to break down from this game so obviously we have to see more games and more of Gilchrist to see how they use him if Moore could gilchrist means less Justin Jackson a Mauve win but if we're gonNA play both of them at the same time yeah just shoot me now. He's Carlisle sometimes. It's just so frustrating. Yeah so in the article. I talk about two ways at the Mavericks. Might use him they they could use him as a dwight power replacement or they could use him as a pseudo draymond green and he actually has the ability to do both of those things. I know it sounds crazy because he's four inches shorter than Dwight Powell. But I break down his offensive skill. Set His athleticism like we talked about his wingspan but his vertical. And you'll even the size of his hands are actually very similar so he has the ability to do both but again we have to see more games before we really know how the him really. There's no need to have a rolling big if Porzingis is willing to play the fine. If you're going to do five out if PORZINGAS is willing to play the five then there's no need to have anybody rolling to the basket because now you can just spread the floor with bunch of three point shooters so I don't see that working out to where he kinda takes Dwight Powell role. In fact that would kinda close the offense a little bit and and for all those at maybe. It's too early to talk about this but as you can see. Dwight Powell was not the reason. Why their offense was so amazing. Because it's still it's still amazing. It's still number one in the league. Even since he out the games that he's been out so that whole argument I I know it's not the right time for that but I just felt like throwing that out there. I've been saying for years but yeah I don't see Michael Kidd Gilchrist fill in that role again. My comment for him is Dorrie and if they can turn them in the door and it's a huge win well and that's you know another thing is talking about like the jump shot. Can they get him to be a good shooter and it sounds like it's just so far out of his reach right now but I mean you know Dorian. He went from shooting twenty nine percent. I think on three pointers to now like thirty eight percent and that was in less than two seasons. Yeah but the differences. He started out with the Mavericks and the first thing they did with younger. Yes and And Kill Chris has been in the League. Now for he's a veteran is gonNA changes his form. So I don't see it like I said I think he's more gonNa play if the Mavericks going against a really good offensive team that has really good wing depth. Then Kidd Gilchrist will be out there to take ten fifteen minutes to guard. Paul George Kawhi Yeah Okay so that's really the bottom line is we just have to see more games to see what he can do how they utilize him if. Carlisle can unlock something in him. let's move on now so going back to this game specifically the good the bad and the ugly obviously in a win. There's a lot of good I thought we both talked about how the first quarter it was. Just beautiful like a perfect. It was the the way that every game should go Luca was on fire but he didn't have the ball the entire time you know he he deferred and other players got involved but he still had a huge impact on the game Porzingas was playing well like that quarter was just perfect. Like that's how I want every single game to go the entire time. Are we talking about the good right now? Have we got okay Yeah I think so I. The first quarter was what what I mean is. Did we get into it so yeah? The first quarter was great. I thought to me What you can see is Porzingis is is. He really is a star. At how. How much of a star? I don't know and you can see the difference on the court. When he is out there now that they have another guy who can attack you can get his own basket which he's been doing a great job of lately it really makes you true contenders because when you have that one guy if you shut him down our he's having a bad game. Your whole offense is shot and I think we saw in the third quarter which will get into the third quarter when Luca was Kinda struggling. Porzingis was able to carry them offensively and keep them engaged and he had a huge third quarter so to me. The good is kristaps Porzingis. Yeah it was just. The the first quarter was just really balanced. It was there was a lot of flow to the offense Luca and Porzingis leading the charge. I mean it's not like you know all these other guys had the ball the time like they were leading the charge But it was just there was there was a nice flow to the offense and I thought it went really well Another good thing from the game Maxi cleaver awesome. Yeah yeah he finished with. Twenty six point career high. Yeah and there was one point where they were saying. He had seventeen points and we were like. What did he get seventeen her but he hit. He was three for six on three pointers. He had a couple of alleyoop shots. He had a couple of dogs that were just will. Yeah they which is not very good on the defensive side of the four and obviously you can see porzingas and maxine had huge games because any time which was in the pick and roll. They struggled to stop. I mean it was either all uber. Wide Open your were foul and Maxi really took advantage of it. A shot was going down it a nice dunk. It I was.

"I don't know I feel like I thought I remembered looking looking at January and the first three games in January the only three rows of Charlotte Chicago. But that's it is ten and the and the Games aims after that but then they also had golden state Sacramento and Portland. Of course they won all those games but and then also Utah at the time such that so then suck but they weren't sad Portland Utah so it looks a lot easier than was remember that ten game stretch in in December. Remember where it was. All the travel got hurt. They went five and five in it so far this month there one two three four five six seven and one two three four five or seven and five. So which sounds about right. Yeah you gotTa Win The thunder game. I think is important. You GotTa go into that game with with thinking that they need to win and they have a back to back the very next night they play at home versus Phoenix. So another tough game. Yeah anyways so that's you know I'm still a mass fan. I love everyone on the team and I think they're going to be fine. But those loose news. Yeah those were some feelings really. I don't even know if those were thoughts. They were mortgages feelings that I had about the game. If you feel differently any or if you think I'm an idiot let me know It's not a good idea. "I shouldn't and even be a starter because it only the guy that wins it is the guy that was the only one that Syria and I think he will. And of course this is all the first dog in on him so much. I don't care yeah. I think he's going to go for it and therefore I think he'll win it. Yeah and and look trae young and I signed again. Isaac Harris Mention this nothing against trae young but you are literally on the worst. You are literally no offence. Offends is but you. But he's literally on the worst team in the league. Yeah how you start a guy in the all-star game with the best players in the League league when he is on the worst he emily and like obviously I don't think trae young sucks not far but yeah it's a starter. It's it's so hard to judge his talent level because yeah they are the worst team in the league. So it's like every every sucky team has a twenty point point scorer and you never know you're like is he really that good cassette. Put Him on a good team and their fifteen times like Anthony. Davis was very good on the Pelicans when they sucked and he's very good on the Lakers. But some guys they average twenty on a sucky team tin on a Yes Bosch Kevin. So it's it's like is he really twenty nine points today. I don't know and that's that's not a Kinda disc but it's just a question that I can't answer and and honestly defensively like first of all. Actually you know what I can't answer. He doesn't really try defensively but even if he did he so little. Oh in so unfeasible on the defensive in He provides zero resistance. They can't stop anybody yes I don't Wanna I don't want this turn into a tree is yes and he'll probably take it seriously to prove that he belongs. MVP and everybody else is just GonNa be like having fun okay. So who picks Luca Iran or Yoenis. I think Lebron. We'll pay Luca I think he's GonNa talk to Anthony Davis so Anthony Davis doesn't get but her but he picked Anthony Davis last year. I yeah that was his way of saying. Hey come play with the Lakers. But I think this my prediction is Lebron is GonNa Pick Luka. Maybe not. Because he's he may not be deserving to be the first pick which I think he is once you take off Jaanus and Lebron. It's Luca either it's Kinda hot topic. Yeah so I think he'll pick Luca I think will be the first pick. Yeah I kind of think that too just like and they asked Lebron you gave his first last year. You're going to do the same thing. And he kinda just laughed onto his. I like him that much. I don't know what that means gave myself an out. Yeah Yeah and I even filtering on purpose is due to a one as soon as I saw that. That's what I thought because I think Lebron Iran has a lot of respect for Luca and I think because Luca grew up crying over Lebron posters. You know that it's going to pick him. Yeah Yeah I mean. I don't know I I think he will be his only chance to play with them. I just ran into chance. Yeah to Luca could mean a lot. Yeah I think ron recognizes that and quite honestly I might cry little if I was Gonna say something until you get all only motion on me but you know. Luke is going to cry when he's on the core as soon as at ball's tipped up into the air realize wait. I'm on the same team. We're Lebron Alley with Lebron. Like how how would look even react to that like he would cry. Yeah and then he better come back home to Dallas it just race all of that from his mind cause it ain't happening because he was coming here what was just a guess. Yes okay All right so summarized to summarize the potty Mavericks Guy Tyson Chandler Junior all my God Dhillon is being traded. Missing is should always play. The five agreed and Luca is going to go down as the the greatest player ever to play yet. You know what. That's exactly what I was going to say. I think he is okay. I honestly believe he will be considered considered the greatest player to ever play the game at some point at some point in history. Statistically somebody's going to have to be better Jordan. It cannot be the greatest player of all time forever. Somebody's GONNA surpass them. People say Lebron. That's a load of crap but can't Lebaron has done and in our is he still hasn't surpass Jordan but he's only I got three rings how many. VP's five. I think for yes. He's he's the top three all time leading score top viewer. He probably will get to talk to the second and I don't think as Korean at most. He's equal cool to Jordan. Also say his second I do too I think is it's Jordan and then we'll braun but I just for what I've seen from a guy as young as luke is as smart as he is in a skilled as he is when he is twenty seven twenty eight years old. He's GonNa be on stoppable. It doesn't matter what defense you put on them. His size and his athleticism will athletics. Yes his athleticism to do what he does. A six seven many conversations. Because you know I. I'm arguing with people. That are you know what they're going to soon as they hear that fast. I don't anyone listening to this. podcast would say that but anyways I I know I'm a fan boy and I I know I'm biased But that is are you wrong. Yes if I say it now and I turn out to be right. You can claim so I am claiming it. I think luke is going to go down as the greatest player to ever play the game. And we'll see see you in twenty years when he retires. Yup It all depends on championships. Really he has to win at least one and honestly to vote to be the greatest latest of all time. He's gotTa win or four to five yet or match Jordan. Of course even short. I mean Bill. Russell won eleven. So it's not like yeah but that doesn't count. It was like one hundred years. Glad we decided that well. There was like four teams in the League. But he's also playing against Wilt Chamberlain Guy Oscar Robertson. All these guys were. The fact is getting higher starting lineup of the All Star game. I'm just saying saying like all these guys. It's not like he was playing against Allen Iverson tracing the these guys are all time greats in themselves another one another guy that played laidback yes. I don't know exactly because they're not that good. Yeah you named the only bream told you bar I mean later yeah. Later Bill Russell ever played Kareem. You played well. I don't think now Kareem. Yeah you're right but Karima wilt overlapped. Yeah but one. It was a lot older. Yeah wasn't much you're right. Yeah so the fact that you named Patrick Ewing close shack. Apparently shack played so long ago. That maybe he did play then because the game talks now in their minds. Yeah I'm trying to think. Think of other guys. They don't exist. Pistol Pete BEC. I'm just naming names. Thank you have to ask that question. I'm just going to throw out random names to make me. He sounds smarter. Hey member fat lever. Wasn't he a good guy was in the eighties. Yeah we'll be free you know how it's say. Yes he you what he reminds me of Johnny. I love when Jeff Skin way that does that he. He has such a knowledge college. You know what he reminds me of Alan Parker seeing because he only he knows that because he's washed it he knows those dues. He knows their skill level for like dude. We don't have that mind. Luca will drive in for like a wide open layup like like Yep just like Johnson Monroe. Yeah I remember handed layups Jersey A. We don't know these guys like you do can. Can you use somebody with no anyways. Yeah so great pod good trade and we'll see when fifteen years when Lucas the goat and his statue can be right next to dirk statue. A statue is going to come. I don't know I heard that. His Jersey will be retired as early earliest this year. But I think that I feel like they should do it next year. Just because when after Wade has done his that's all I care about how they already do ways you hear. They're doing the three. I'm going to another thing. I'm going to go all it is the most overrated player to ever play this this. I'm right there which I'm sorry there with me. Let's run it down first of all never want an MVP okay second of all. Oh six rig rig I I mean and his other two rings and Chris Bosh and Chris Bosh but we act like an and they win against the thunder who did not belong there anyway anyway. 'cause they just happen to beat the Spurs and the previous series at the Spurs really should have won. And No dwayne Wade is the most overrated player ever. I'm not saying he's not an all-star I'm not saying he's not a hall of Famer but let's stop acting like he's a legend a first ballot hall of Famer. I don't know I don't I don't know I mean I think he'll get in but I don't think I don't know if he's deserving I mean I guess maybe he's just he's just not on the level of Tim Duncan Yeah Eh. Kobe Bryant Dirk Nowitzki. I don't care what Miami people say he's not on that level and we. We're treating him a three day ceremony. I now now. I mean for crying out. Now what he meant to Miami the franchise. I get that about the well yet true but you know he went back and retired there. Yeah well but he left. Yeah they didn't want him. They didn't resign and he went to go play with his La- bum. Mm I feel like we're just at this point. I feel remy. I think you know why because the mavericks played on the West Coast last night and we didn't go to bed to like twelve thirty thirty right. Now we're just running off indoor. I'm a little delirious as act delirium I am delirium are you done. Are we done here. I was done like tournaments. Simmons go okay. Thank you guys so.

"In general Another reason why I liked it is because it took another ball handler off of that second unit. I thought not one of the reasons why Dhillon Jalen have been kinda inconsistent and really set for that matter is because all three played the same time. Yeah they're minutes or sometimes yes and Jalen will get ten minutes a game and moving seth to these starting lineup allows Jalen a little more freedom and Dhillon a little bit for they played together Watt and the game and they're able to have more minutes have more opportunities to make a play because it kind of shortens the rotation. I Know Carlisle. The Mavericks only played nine players against the blazers. And I know that's not. How Carlisle likes to do it but really honesty when he short in the lineup? That just means you're best employers. Have the ball in their hands the most frequently instead of trying to run eleven guys out there. Yeah they were Reggie Miller was talking about during the game. How Carlisle L.? He always likes to go like ten or eleven deep. And it's like it doesn't matter who is on the roster you could have Michael Jordan and then a bunch of just. Nobody's no buddies but he would still go fifteen in the game and it's like it's just not necessary. I know they have all this data that if they look into about longevity of players and all that I get that but that doesn't mean you have to play that many guys. Yeah so once you get to your bench. Those kinds aren't going to be playing alone in minutes anyway. So I like to how it shortened the lineup and he gave more opportunities Jalen Dhillon to make plays and not just stand standing there staring at some point. So here's a question What does Willie Cauley Stein? Bring to the team. I mean we think he's going to come off the bench but regardless what do you think are his strengths. Or what can they look forward. The only I have it looks like Tyson. I haven't watched a lot of Willie Collie early Stein. Other than the fact that he's a he can jump really high and really good at dunking only use. But yeah exactly you know so it. It sounds exactly like Dwight Powell and a lot of people think that he's just GONNA fit right into that starting lineup and he very may well they their decision. The Mavericks decision may be for him to start. Yeah Eh I don't see how it works defensively. But that's what they they say that they probably GonNa do. But I think it's more of having a guy who can roll. I think you'll see a lot of minutes with him and Maxi playing together and I think he'll be a roll man for Luca he'll probably be playing with Luca. But but it's really just having a quality big. Come off your back. Yeah so this year. He's averaged eight points six rebounds and one in point two blocks as a starter. He's playing twenty three minutes a game and then last year he averaged twelve points. Eight rebounds for that is about thirteen point seven rebounds. He's really not. He's not a skilled big. He's like an energy big but he's a role guy he'll he'll roll role and dunk it or he'll say around the basket and get a tip in or hill apart yeah blocker he'll hustle the ball away on on the offensive board. He's he's that kind of player. He's like the energy and like you're not going to give the ball to him. He can't really shoot. It probably doesn't have any post moves but he fills that that role of a big man role and I mean like you said they might start him. He's played center his entire career. Maybe they thinking play power forward. I mean that remains is to be seen. Yeah next question. Do you think that this is the last trade. They're gonNA make because like I said all they traded a Whiz the Utah Jazz a second round. Pick as far as I know I mean all these other assets that people talked about they still have yeah. I don't know I'm curious to see what happens with this Dhillon right situation situation. He has complained in the past about maybe not so much complained but he has mentioned about the whole bench star thing you can tell. He didn't really agree with the decision. But whatever the coach needed fine but then Dorell Wright your brother came out with the tweet let me read this tweet. He said a some dudes. Get the bag that means money they make a lot of money. Just okay cool. I did not know that. Some dudes get the bag and be happy to play. Maybe play play play play. You GotTa do that. Does all the little things to help your team when every night and you don't use him. Ll Watch out. I'm fed up. I I don't know what that last part means but basically we assume he's talking about delong. Obviously not the Portland in the clipper game He didn't play a a lot of minutes but he made a huge play at the end of the game. We getting the steel and he does do a lot of the little things. Now he is a little inconsistent. It was scoring the ball. What is impacting that as him his decision making or is it because we had too many guards out there with him he didn't have enough opportunities? Yeah I feel like I feel like I interrupted. You know I just so it it. It remains to be seen really. Yeah what what's going to happen with Dorian island avalon with Dhillon personally. I don't think they will make a move and less. It is something that's going to put them in true contention Incheon status but I don't think they have the pieces to do that. Yeah my thing was Dhillon is like he's more skilled than I thought. as a ball handler. He's a pretty good playmaker and sometimes he has these drives. It require a lot of skills to make the shot but then sometimes times he's hesitant or I don't not aggressive. Yeah every so in sometimes he wines which annoys me but yes so so I don't know it's like the hesitancy that's that's different from a lack of skill like he clearly has skill but he doesn't always use it and what causes that. I don't yeah you've seen games where he is being aggressive and he's impacting. The Game Carlisle will keep him out there and play him a lot of minutes. But then we'll have a game where he kinda just disappears. Here's he's not really involved. He's not really being aggressive. Carlisle's Lamela those games and it's hard to say. Well you need to play more. But when he's out there he's not doing anything and Carlisle's really big on if you've got a player who that's why he plays fifty players at night is because one of them's bound to have a big night and that one's GonNa get rewarded awarded with with Heavy minutes or heavier minutes. Yeah it's awesome. I don't know it goes back to the same. We've said or that I've said before I feel like AAC. Some players have a really short leash and some players will get their minutes. No matter what from Carlisle questions favoritism. Yeah Yeah and and I mean I guess that is the definition of favorites. It is. Yeah but yeah. It's like some guys and he'll say this like you. No you gotta you gotta be ready. Stay ready you gotta play hard be aggressive. You know persistence defense. Like that's going to be on the court and some guys he holds them to that. They're not focused or not. Playing will out of the game and then some guys they play thirty minutes no matter what no matter what. And it's like I don't understand I like the logic of what you do with this other guy but it doesn't seem like you do it across the board well and then there's two players one story an Fini's Smith the other was Dwight Powell l.. Who are favorites of Carlisle? He loves them. I think durians leading the team in minutes so I mean I don't know if that means anything but as much as I love Dorian is he really the guy that's overall impacting your game. So much where he has to play the most Minnesota a lot of this probably because his body type and his jeans were he he heavy minutes and have Gone Lake. How many minutes can your body? Yes and he's never injured. He's never store. He's never sprained his ankle. He doesn't do anything like the amount of minutes he plays seems to have no impact on him so he averages twenty nine and a a half minutes porzingas is at thirty one. Lucas thirty three okay. So Ms third-highest and the guy was Powell in both of those they can do. No wrong Tom. Yeah with with Carlisle but other players just I mean they are has done that in the past. Yes so I think I feel like Dhillon is on them. He and his brother isn't helping him. Yeah Megan at work. His Carlisle's aren't going to be like. Okay Wow I got a lot of. I'm surprised he played it all. Yeah but he played in Carlton's kind of grown a little bit too. He's not as has tough stiff if knows as it used to be. So maybe he's you know. Hey you know I have a young guy here. Wants to place who played them and Dhillon played well against Portland. Yeah I mean so. It's like to be fair. Delone does sometimes lack urgency or aggressive but on the other side on the other hand he is a skilled offensive player. And he's a very good defender I don't feel like defense is a priority for any of these guys right now but he has the skill to be a good deal. I think the lawn is he. He's an elite help side defender like He. He's good at at cutting the passing lanes or jump in the passing lanes getting his hands when somebody's driving this not really his lawyer he can kinda reach over and still ball but one on one on defense. I think he's okay with that. There's been a lot of times where he's Kinda slow footed laterally. He gets blown right past now he can recover sometimes and sneak in there for a block or elite rip but a Lotta Times he gets burned and it's a wide open layup so I think he's an okay on ball defender but I think he's in a wheat help side defender okay. So here's my thing with the defense right now because Dhillon right. We've seen him be a good defender during an Fini's Smith I know that he's a good defender but I don't feel like anybody is is really focused on defense right now and and those guys are included so I feel like I know that during Finish Smith or I think he is a better defender under than what he's doing right now and same thing with Dhillon because I don't think any purchase not informed. I think collectively the team just doesn't prioritize it and so those guys they've they fall into that 'cause they're not the leaders they fall into what the team does. Well they also know they can score basically need time down the court and so deep down in the back of their head they gotta be thinking a we're gonna be able to score on this guy so their energy isn't there all the time on defense. The problem is is when he played teams. That do bring the energy on defense and slow you down. Can't score time downright and one thing I thought about when I was driving home. My hour commute from from work is the Mavericks. Don't know how to win ugly right. Yes yes they don't want him. Oh Yes let's not freak out is okay okay. But elite teams like the clippers. Even if they're not shooting well or things aren't going their way in its physical they're able to to win those games but the mavericks haven't developed that ability to play uglier water that's experience recognizing that we we got to win games when our offense isn't and always going. Yes you you are saying everything that I've been feeling that I haven't been able to put into words it's like I don't know what it's like. Why why does this? Why do these things happen or like what are they always do this? Or why can't and linked and that's what it is if they're shot the now. Okay okay taking out the Portland game because I know the blazers went on a run as because we're GonNa talk about that Ryan okay. I feel like we've already talked about the game. So hey but like my point was dead it just just racy okay. But yes. Whenever like? Their shot isn't falling or the defense playing them.

"Not only do you have a guy that is quote unquote ball dominant as if that's some kind of negative connotation to it but you have that guy who can create plays. That is unstoppable at scoring. The ball can create for others and then if for some stupid reason team decides they're going to double him or take the ball out of his hands. You have other guys understands or on your team that can step up. So this is it's like this is the recipe for a great team. Well and I think the key really is that Luca can play off the ball. Aw if he needed to yeah well yeah but would regardless he can in fact whenever teams started doubling and trapping him a lot he he plays more off the ball now not not all the time. It's not like he does it a lot but they they do that. They'll have someone else. Bring the ball up he gets. We're catching shoot shots. Yeah I mean that's it has happened more. It's still not very common. What I think the fact that he can? Yeah I think what you see more is is when he does bring it down he passes it quicker now eventually the ball may come back and meet him again either for a catch and shoot or him with a screen of justice. The defense off balance But yeah I know to me. That's it's not a negative light. You should be happy that you have a guy that can do anything that he wants to do on. A Courtney plays figured team well so my appointed like saying that he can play off the ball. Is I think if if a guy is ball dominant to the point where it becomes a problem. It's because he also can't play off the ball so I think guys like Carmelo Anthony James James Harden James Harden Russell Westbrook guys like that. That really can't play off the ball so that's when it does become. The problem is if you do need to adjust or if you do Chattanooga wrinkle they can't do anything off the ball whereas with Luca you're not going to do it a lot but just say hypothetically so you need to do to few times. They'll just take it that he can still do that. And I think that's why is not necessarily problem now. Now the other problem would be like say. You're in a playoff series and Luca goes out. Is it automatic that they're gonNA lose that series and if so is that will be a problem. Now who's the series any team that loses their best player is GONNA probably lose this series. It's not a negative connotation on unless you have Freakin Steph clay and dream on and durant on your team where we're durant can go out and you could win but you know that. That's it's been one team in the history of the League. So if if the Lakers are in a series with the Mavericks and will broncos out the maverick and destroy Roy them. Yeah 'cause they have nobody else so and they rely on lebrons so it's not a negative that you have a a ball dominant guy. I don't even like wording it that way to me. You have one of the best players playmaker we want to give him the not. That has well. And it's it's it's not like it's it's such a more efficient player than other twenty point scores that you've seen in history. You know you have. Yeah you can have a guy that can put up twenty twenty five points a game but it doesn't equal wins and yeah those guys you don't really want the ball in their hands all all that much because you need to spread it around so you're GONNA win a couple of games and with Luca that's not the case it's equaling winds. Here's an interesting point. So Oh the since two thousand the player that has won league. MVP also won an NBA title of that year. Only five times since since two thousand. So there's always talk about Luca be an MVP candidate which I love and I want him to win mvp but does that say something about the Mavericks as a team that they have some holes they need to fill. If just looking at that stack. Clearly you know basically if you're winning. MVP It's because because you're the only guy on your team that can get it done but you're good enough to take them to fifty wins. I mean I'm such a vague. I don't know like whoever came up with that. Just needs to burn day. Came up with what that find. Well it's true. Yeah but I don't think there's any correlation there like you know. I think it's hard to win a championship even for MVP players so you know in in two thousand six two thousand seven. The mavs were the best team in the League and Dirk won the MVP who also they have on their team well. It did matter the year before they went to the finals and had a bunch of trash trash hopefully none of them. Listen to this podcast. But you know well. He had players like Ciganda Jaap out there making big plays for them and they didn't win a ring. Yes but I don't know to me it's such I don't there's so much more involved winning a championship than just. Hey well you know this is happened and this must be true. My point is though that if you have a guy that is a clear undoubted. MVP candidate on your team. Then maybe the rest of your roster you need to find a way to improve it so that he does not such a giant gap between him and the rest of the players. You did that sentence with but maybe maybe if this perhaps like okay. I don't mean that in I mean it just take out the maybes and the rest of the statements still oh stands. If there's such a huge gap between Luca and their next and the rest of their roster yes that's great for MVP's but in terms of winning a ring at maybe it means that roster isn't good enough the fact that MVP's have also won the championship even though it's not as often is it takes out of that because has fm if you're the MVP you're just the best player on the best team is typically what happens in the regular season. But you know that whether your team mm isn't as good or not doesn't matter still won. MVP Yeah. But I want to win a championship. Yeah I just feel like this is such A. What are we arguing about here? Like his first of all. He's not GonNa win. MVP this year. He's just not as much as I want him to. He's not GonNa win. MVP So we don't have to worry about that. Our chances of winning championships just went up. Dramatically changed it. Would you say she's such a weird stat. I just there's so much more involved than in just those two things going to work. I don't know whether it's so funny but it was. I like that though like if he doesn't win. Vp to our chances of winning. Go Riga Skyrocket rocket. This is so dumb. I can't believe or even talking about pot is such a dumb stat. I thought it it's an interesting factoid. And you clearly disagree. I think she's I think is completely pointless. I it's nothing to do with anything else. The moral of the the story is that Luka is amazing and that's it I don't even think we even said okay moving onto the next topic. You've said recently to me that you think that Tim Hardaway Junior is the Mavericks Shooting Guard of the future and it came up because obviously trade season is four months away. So we're all predicting what trades there but you know we're we're kind of about these trades and and some of them center around Tim Hardaway Junior because of his contract and all that and But you said you know not only should they keep him but he is. They're shooting are the future like you think he's going to be when you say it like that. It makes it sound. Like I'm saying that he's future all star I don't know but he's he's like they're gonna like he's in the role not just by default but also because they want him in that role and they wanNA keep him in that role and I think that Eventually really his price tag is GonNa be a lot lower okay so you know. Obviously he's not going to continue to make seventeen eighteen million dollars a year when this contract it is up if it is. It won't be for the Mavericks because I don't think they will resign him for that. And when he goes in averages twenty points a game on forty five percent from three. You know who should go after him if they win they cap space the Lakers okay And the bucks okay. Sorry continue any with your point. You were saying oh his contract if he gets a big fact. It's not going to be with the Mavericks. So so I think that they like what he brings as far as his athleticism and his size and his quality defense. He's not a lockdown doc down defender and the price tag that it will be and I think it's actually a good fit next to Luca and I've mentioned this before in the past. It's not the fact is not just the fact that he he can shoot. Threes is the fact that he can get his shot up. Even when. It's pretty well contested. And I think that's important next to because because Luke is not always going to get you a wide open shot. So he's got a quicker release than say seth in he'd jump jump higher than said and he's just tall I think is a six six six six six. Yeah and he's athletic. And I think the MOMS want straight athleticism next to to Luga and so I think Tim Hardaway will fit that bill plus he can step up in games that you need him to or in a playoff okay off series. He's the kind of player where he'll help you win. A series GIS by himself now the series after that he may be completely garbage but the garbage but he he will travel to contribute yes so but for one series he can help you win this series. I think. Also he's as a car while Kinda Guy I'm not guaranteeing he's going to be that but I think they like the idea of having that athletic guard next to Luca and he can get his shot off even when there is a contest there. I think you know like you said about how he can yet. He's athletic enough to get it off. which is important because like you said he doesn't always get a clean look and he doesn't need like he's not the Kinda guy that needs to dribble the the ball six times before he gets a shot up I'm enormously? He can be that player. We've seen that even if you tell him like no. You're not going to do that. You're you're gonNA catch and shoot. He's still really effective. The ball's not in his hands for very long. Yeah usually ever like even when he has to make a play he. He's not sitting sitting there for ten minutes thinking about what he wants to do before he goes he just goes. That is one nice thing about him is just go just go and sometimes you're like Whoa. What kind of shot shot was abbot? You know since the beginning of the season we haven't seen some of those ridiculous Yolo shots as long as he's moving within offense and the flow. It's GonNa you know. I think that's why he fits well with Carlisle system because he doesn't hold the ball he's not one of those Kinda guys he just. He goes sometimes passing sometimes. It's shooting right away. That's what you want for Carlisle. System Carlisle wants movement and flow and Hardaway contributes to that. So I think they like Hardaway Way. Obviously they don't WanNa pay him as much as they are and that potentially will go down if he decides to stay in the Mavericks decide to keep them but I think they will because I the price tag is going to go down. Do you think He's like a Jason Terry kind of now Jason Terry so so this is kind of the conversation we had the other night. Where a.

"No okay so I think okay. Klay Thompson is a superstar. Yes now he's not on the level I guess I. I don't know it depends on what you classify superstar. He's a stud. He's a star in the league. He's a champion. He shows up on big moments. The steph no he's never going to be considered for MVP no but he is a perennial all star. And I think that's kind of what I'm saying about a Persian S. I think that's probably what Porzingas is only because you know mainly you have Luca true. Yeah is already that guy. Well I think like like on New York even I remember before he got injured he was just outside of the. MVP conversation like there were some people who threw that around early on. I mean maybe more because he played in New York but twenty two and seven. But I remember I remember. Remember that being out there so then he comes here on an actual good team and he's no no but again more of this has to do with the fact that year. Yes so let's give him five years of him and then we'll revisit this quick this question because our pod will still be going by then an but wait this episode. But I do think you're comp to Klay Thompson I think that's a good one and I would also say that doesn't disappoint me. Well no yeah I would I would love to have you turned out to be Kevin Love. You're talking about a champion and help them. Ah Ah Ring. Yeah so yeah. It's like right now. I think it's probably not the best time to ask the question of why we even brought it up. I meet especially after the game. He had Wino- The injury and and I get all that and he's actually he gets better with every game so it's I don't think it's something that can be settled right now. Oh but it's something that kind of lingers in the back of my head and then I I always wondered. Even when he came here it was like New York sucked. He put up over twenty points. The game is that is this a classic where he comes here and he's maybe just very you know okay. Not that level. There is a gap between him and and Luca but to be fair. There's a gap between each and every. Yes it's kind of like Lebron true in his prime. You Put D. Wade eight or Chris Bosh for Kevin love and suddenly they're like they. They're just as good as they were. But now they play with this Megastar in Lebron James and they're like man Lebron that good or was Kevin Love non-fat good. Yeah so one thing So going back to comparing him to Klay Thompson PORZINGAS defense. Yeah you talk to you. Yeah how he can be that law downs of anchor compared to away Thompson does for Steph. It's a lot of the same of what KRISTAPS does with Luca and his defense this year. And I know he talked about wanting to. It'd be the defensive player of the year and he has been really good like so first of all rebounding I think for his career before for this he averaged like seven. Yeah it was like seven six and a half rebounds this year. He's averaging nine rebounds and and two blocks per game was she's always been a high blocks guy but even if you dig into the analytics of his defense so he's allowing opponents wants to shoot only forty seven point four percent at the rim which is two point six lower than Rudy Gobert. Who went defensive player of the year twice I tweeted this the other day. So opponents field goal percentage drops by twelve percent on shots within six feet of the rim when defended By porzingas fifth best best in the League and then overall opponents field goal percentage drops by two point eight percent on any shot defended offended by porzingis. And that's that's fifty fifth in the League but that includes just like every single shot a guy which could be so many different situations but the point is I mean he's still elites and he's become elite and I think that's a perfect point how he compliments Luca who is not a terrible defender despite what people say but he's not Lebron on and you don't want him exhausting himself on the defensive end so and it's you know Porzingis right now I think would I would say as a better help side defender than he is one on one defender. There's been a couple of times now. Granted it's like Anthony Davis and Janas and some of these top OP names where he kinda gets buoyed. A little bit He gets pushed out of the way a little bit too easily So he's got to get a little bit stronger. I I think to help. When he's defending one on one? I agree with. I think he can do well in a guard. The guard isn't as physical. They try to shoot over him but his arms or so long that it affects them where they try to beat him but again armed for so long he blocks it but when he's going against Other forwards that Dr Elite He struggles a little bit with them. He gets pushed out of the way a little bit too much. Or they're a little bit too quick for them so I think he's got to work on that aspect in order for him to be that lockdown. Because you would you would love to see him. Have the ability to if let's say in three years we're going against the Lakers. You love to see him going toe to toe with Anthony. Anthony Davis on the defensive end like shutting down. Anthony Davis using his length on Anthony Davis. But he can't do that right now because he's just a little too light so he's still got to get a little bit stronger especially in the legs to help him be a better one on one but held side defense. He's amazing on the health side. Yeah well and it's amazing. That help defender that. He put on so much muscle and you can still see. Some weaknesses is like actual physical weakness. and which I think also affects him in the post one reason why he hasn't shot well in the post is because either he he doesn't or he can't back guys down but yeah defensively that affects him too and but it just goes to show how weak he got why. That's such a negative thing. But but you know he surreal and you know he was twenty years old true any seven three so apparently it's actually so yeah. He didn't have a lot of strength. And so I think he you for the next couple of off seasons. He's going to have to build that strength to the point where he becomes an anchor down there where he doesn't get pushed around or anything like that. That'll so help also with these late-game rebounding issues. Although he is a better rebounder he still getting beat by a faster stronger guy and him building that strength and his his quickness a little bit will help them with that as well. Yeah I think just the fact that he's improved the way that he has and and also we've talked about before the way that he plays how he doesn't force anything you talked about the last episode. How you just love his attitude and his maturity ready and the willingness to come in and you know you you come from being the man and you come to this new team when you're thinking this is going to be great? I get to be the man with another guy that's the man and we're GONNA dominate. And then it turns out that you're not as good as you hoped you would be deep in injury. Or whatever and Luca is way better than you ever were anyway and instead of causing problems or trying to force it or trying to take over which we've seen that dynamic how it doesn't work he's gladly just said I get it. You're better than I am. I'm GONNA play within the offense. What really helps is that? Luka is undoubtedly yeah like it would be ellen if Luca was out there averaging twenty game efficiency and then it's like well. Hey maybe I should be getting these shots more. But it's clear so it's like even a porzingas wanted challenge. There is no competition. And that's not a shot on porzingis. You know it's just Lucas. Having such a monster year it was clear last year. Well I don't know I mean there were still problems. I will say that the Knicks must have the greatest. Pr Team in the world. They do they turned what the guy that we have have is not the guy I was expecting. There were rumors that he had attitude problems. Yeah well I remember listening to someone else's thoughts on this podcast. I can't remember was saying. How like the Knicks? Pay attention to the stupidest things like they could have. They're like so much drama going on in the front office this with their GM and then they're firing their coach and they have all of this crap and they they don't care about they don't fake they don't change it but yet it. If Richard Jefferson says that takes off they were like no we. Didn't they released an official statement. They have a tweet as Eddie to worry that just shows the organizations insecurity on their brass team like for them to feel feel the need to have to clarify a. We never offered. Nobody cared you shouldn't care about all the bad or negative things that people care about with the Knicks don't address yeah but the one time publicly. Somebody says they offered me contract and they didn't. Did you hear that. The Knicks Higher David Blatt as Like I dunno president of something Yeah I thought that was interesting because I don't feel like it solved a problem that they were dealing with. I mean it's not surprising. I mean well. He went to college with one of them. So I mean I don't know all all the details but it just seems surprising I was like I don't know if that really souls what you guys are dealing with what you gotta do. I'm not going to spend any more time on my point. Wait was that the Knicks. Pr Is great because the guy that everybody thought we might be getting is clearly not that good. They said attitude problems his brother is always involved. Ah Yes all of these. And we haven't had any of those problems he's been in like you said his attitude is awesome. I love his his attitude his honesty in in his interviews yeah well in his willingness to play within the system to accept his role. which which is it's not like? It's a bad roles like he's coming off the bench but he is the secondary guy to Luca I mean and he. He wasn't that before so to accept that role I think it says a lot about who he is and I think it's a big part of why they're they're winning because if you see like for him to set that example I think is valuable for the rest of the rest of the locker room for guys like Tim. Hardaway Junior. Who's always been kind of the number one guy or I South Korea who may be thought he was going to start or all these different guys? I think it sets a good example and also builds that kind of culture that because really winning being requires sacrifice guys have to be willing to accept their role and when they don't accept their role that's when it causes problems and so I think it's just an important part of their culture. Okay another topic that I wanted to talk about that. This ring article addressed and I've kind of been thinking about it in the back of my head. A little bit is the next Kevin. Neal is there isn't a problem that Luca why is ball dominant. Is that something that we should be concerned with. And here's the reason why there's a couple of things couple good points. So first of all. They rely on him and this is really the point of it. They rely on him so much. I guess yes. A lot of stars are ball dominant but the fact is they rely on him for like everything he leads. The lead the leads the league in recession. Yeah in touches. You saw whenever the clippers just focused on him solely they took him out of the game. Mavericks lost that game and they couldn't Khalid do anything Yeah that's one game though. You've also seen games where like in Denver Hookah couldn't get anything going true and we we still want and then we against the bucks. Yeah and so. That was kind of my next point of like a lot of times when you have a team that relies so much on one player. Not Now you can get it done in the clippers game. They couldn't get it done but I I was like well but since then we've seen those players step up. Yeah and you'RE NOT GONNA win every game anyways so they could have just been. They just wasn't there that night against the clippers and the clippers. I don't know but really what what you're seeing is best possible scenario for the mavs..

"Okay and yeah. It's a problem. Here's another good comment from J H at underscored Jay. Actually GONNA do. I wouldn't mispronounce all these okay. He he said Need another star. I don't think Porzingis will be that guy and end. Want one guard that can be a really great defender. Now we're talking about pausing using. He's obviously struggled this year. We've said in the past that we don't think that this year is going to be any indication of he'll be like for the rest of his career. But I guess if we are talking about. Are they a championship team. Now than what I said it does depend on Porzingas. I do believe he is a superstar. I still believe in it. Just might not Nazeer. Yeah maybe not this year or maybe later on this year we see a little bit more of it. You know one guy tweeted that He can feel his porzingas breakout game in his bones. And it's like to me. That's the best way to describe it. That's how I feel at some point is going to break out of all this and it's GonNa Click and handle things are going to move forward so I don't believe they need another star I think you just need quality role players in enroll players that actually can hit big shots in the playoffs. Yeah or in big games because really how you win in the playoffs. Is You have role players that show up in big moments Sir not stars but they show up big moments and that's what helps you win so I think you need to get those guys. I think they have porzingis. And Lucas said I think it's the other guys that matter that remains to be seen. Maybe some of the guys they have are those people I don't know so he brought up. They also need a guard that that can be a really great defender. And so this kind of goes into trades because part of my question when I tweeted this was if they're not contenders. Now what moves. Do you think they should make to become a contender. And so that's why he brought up getting at guard. That can be a really great defender late. Do you agree with that. You think they should be like a lot of people. brought out like this one comment from at Ashish area. I am sure mispronounced said but he a a lot of people said the same thought he said I like what we have. Their chemistry is so good right now. I don't WanNA trade any pigs away if anything. We just need an elite rebounder or someone to lock doc down the paint but that idea of like not wanting to ruin the chemistry a lot of people said the same thing and I cannot feel the same way so it's like yeah. They need to make improvements. But I'm I'm so afraid to mess with the chemistry well. It's the right kind of improvements. I I don't think we need a elite rebounder I think are rebounding is actually actually pretty good. This year in the League were tenth right now. In rebounding percentage in defensive rebounds fourth in the League in total so oh I think we're actually a pretty decent rebounding team. Yeah and that's probably because Porzingis is way above his career average. Luca obviously is a freak. Yuck so now points in the paint Where do we rank with that when we're seventeen so we're a little bit on the the bad side and I think porzingas it's not being himself in the beginning but you see even the change with him lately Eh? Really the last ten games as far as defense. He's been really good. But yeah that's also a factor porzingas his a really good rim-protector. He's just not porzingas yet. We'll have led the points in the paint. How we're whatever you say? Seven point defensively seventeen so were on the the lower end We allow forty eight points per game the paint and the Milwaukee Bucks are number one in the league at forty. So it's not like it's a huge gap now so I don't know if we need either one of those to me. The the way the roster is set up is the way it needs to be set up with The athletic wing to guard. Tim Hardaway the the defensive three guide. Dorian yeah the four spacer porzingas and then the rim roller in Powell. Those are the right kind of structure structure. Is there just the upgrade of debt to me the biggest upgrade you can have is that three yards spot during vinnie Smith. I agree and that's so. Do you like that guy saying they need to a guard that can defend really well. I think you could say finish Smith that spot guard or or forward a a wing. Yeah this other Guy Carlos he said the same thing we we still need a guy and so like my first thought was well during finish. Smith has actually become a really good guy. I'm a good defender. He's still not a good shooter. He's much better. I feel whenever he shoots it now I I don't I'm not upset because it normally goes in and he's like I've trashed him a lot in the past but this year he's grown a lot has become a very good three. Andy the guy that being said what I think though what that would put them over the edge as far as championships team or not. Is You need an elite. Three Andy Guy. Yeah in a week. Three D. guy is a guy that can get his shot off no matter what whenever he catches and even if the defense closes out like Klay Thompson Awesome sometimes sheets with the guy right there in faced any smith is often wide open. Yes so and Tim Hardaway Junior. That's kind of what makes him so valuable within the starting lineup. Because is he can just rise up above the defender and shoot it. Because Tim Hardaway. Junior is very athletic. He's got great size great length. He's a decent. Defender resigned lockdown defender. But he's a decent defender lately. Yeah and but he can catch and shoot with the best of them doesn't always make it but when he's on he's on and I feel like Tim. Hardaway is going to be one of those guys in the playoffs. He he gets in a playoff series. He stays hot the whole series the next series. He he might go ice cold but carlisle's great at finding somebody else that that can contribute. So I think that that three D if you had klay late Thompson at that small forward to me this. This team is a championship team. Yeah no in somebody else mentioned that. I don't have the tweet in front of me. But they said and Klay Thompson listen to this team and their ship and and I was like well. Yeah obviously I would love to have Klay Thompson but just don't grow on Jack's not happening. Yeah and so you know that brings up the other point line of like okay so they need a three d guy will. Who is that? I mean who's available like you said the these guys don't go on or grow on. They can't just outside and pick one up so it's like how many elite three and d guys are there in the League and then second of all what team would give that guy up her nothing. Yeah like when you find find that you don't really want to give that up And we can get into trades a little bit later on. Because there's been some new stuff about Ego Dolla and Kevin Love which I know a lot of people talked about but but there is that a lot of people talked about how they need that a guard that a guy Peter Hogan at Pistol Pete. He'd Hogan cool name by the way Brought up a good point. He said the mass bench is really good but come playoffs. They won't be able to take advantage of weaker. Benches because other teams teams don't play their bench in the playoffs. I think they needed to find a solid third starter or defined. Sixth man to take the next step. I think in terms of you know we're we're talking about benches and to get off three guy. I think a defined sixth man maybe is more important than a third starter like you said I mean they have poisoning is. There's there's no three all star games anymore really you what your bench does in. The playoffs doesn't doesn't get destroyed. While you're you're stars on the bench and went coaches. Just don't play. They don't go nine or ten or eleven like they do in the regular season and that's why I think he was saying that a defined sixth man that's like kind of like a sixty career candidate even if he doesn't win it is so important you so I'm going to throw a name out there and they're restricted free agent next summer. Now there's a couple couple things that have to go the MOM's way in order for this to work out in the past. I was never a huge fan of this person. But this year's Ason tatum. No very very close though. Oh I know you're gonNA Jaylen Brown. Yeah is a restricted free agent. That's important because they have locked up so much money on Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker while some people think hayward is gone while they would have to trade him okay. So then I take Jason. I Take Gordon Hayward we're yeah but let's say so in order for the Mavericks believed to have any money is Tim. Hardaway is going to have to opt out of his contract that it doesn't mean he's going to leave. He just got an opt out. The best case scenario for the mavs. Is Tim Hardaway Junior averages. Seventeen points a game this year on pretty decent efficiency efficiency on a winning team. He's going to opt out because he's GonNa get a long term deal. My belief is the Mavericks Really Liked Him Hardaway away they will kind of communicate with him have him opt out and he'll resign Dallas but what that'll do is once he opts out. It gives them cache to spend in free agency. Of course this is freaking fantasy land. The marriage never sign anybody. But I'm just saying there's a chance they can have some money this summer. Do you think so the idea of them getting a more defined six men. Do you think that's important because right now. Who is there six? No I mean. I don't think that matters just just having a solid bent just having a solid team. Well Yeah but we're trying to get bench the bench. Yeah is is important to have but I don't think you need to have like the sixth man of the year type of guy coming in so personally. No I don't think so. Okay let me go. Oh through and read some of these other comments. There's a lot of people that like I said are saying that they need another shock creator. They need another three in D. Guy or a wing defender so a lot of people are saying that and I mean like I agree even though I think finish Smith has developed really. Well you have to. You need to upgrade somewhere..

Tim Hardaway vinnie Smith Klay Thompson Porzingis League Andy Guy Guy Carlos Jay Gordon Hayward Mavericks Milwaukee Bucks Ashish area Nazeer Peter Hogan Lucas Kevin Love Luca mavs Dorian Ason tatum

"mavericks" Discussed on Dallas Hoops Fancast - A Podcast for Dallas Mavericks Fans

"It's going to come out in January Really excited about it. I think mass fans are GonNa like it a lot but in the meantime there's an article up where Martin listed his top five games to watch for this month and that's a monthly series so in January who have his next top five games to watch for that month. We're GONNA talk about the maverick schedule into wolf for the rest of the of December because it is brutal but I I wanted to show start start the show off with a little bit of Trivia. I shared this on twitter and it was so amazing I just feel like I have to share it here in case anyone listening is not following me. So so it's about how the Mavericks got their name which you probably know. They came into the to the league. A local radio station in hosted a contest contest and invited mavs fans to send in submissions for what they thought the name of the team should be and then they sent sent those submissions to Don Carter and they could choose the name so once. The name Mavericks was chosen. The fans who suggested that at work entered into a drawing to get season tickets. But what's interesting is the number of people who suggested the name Mavericks. Would you like to guess Martin. Seventy seventy seven forty one just as good. I mean no better. That completely blew my mind when I saw that because I thought I was like no. What are the chances who I was like no freaking way and I had to? I found an archived version version of an article that was published on NBA Dot Com. So I know it's legit and it said this very thing that the number of people that wrote in and submitted the name name Mavericks forty-one people and for those that don't know where Mavericks fans known for those of you that don't know Eh Dirk wore the number forty. Yes I feel like that is also just as obvious as you ruin the joke. The joke was going to the obvious. No better you ruined. I made it better anyway another little tidbit piece of Trivia the Mavericks First Game as a franchise was the kids to the San Antonio Spurs. Did you know that. And they also won in that game which I thought was interesting because I was like man. I can't imagine after that game. Everyone was like pumped up and like yeah. We're here we have arrived and we're going to be competitive and all this stuff and little. Did they know that you know the spurs would be like the big brother rather as Derek called them to the mavericks and the Mavs went on to go like four and sixteen or something over the next twenty games. It was not a good start but we got that win. We got all losses. That we've had against the Spurs win anyway just some Trivia. It's research I was doing for the article I was talking talking about. That's coming out in January. There's some other little nuggets that I've been finding that are super interesting that I might share on twitter but anyway I wanted to start with that so something something else I shared on twitter twitter moving onto actual topics for the podcast. I asked this question because I don't know I it. It sounds crazy but I feel like it's legit. The question was are the Mavericks a championship team. And I know when you hear that it's like whoa slowdown own. No they're not but I was like I mean seriously so are you asking. Are they contenders or could this team team when it all I mean I guess in the question. I'm I'm saying. Could this team win at all. No now when I ask that I don't even vigneault if I believe that but I think I think it's worth I think they're at the point where it's a conversation we can have. I think we're at the point where you can say in. Someone doesn't think you're a complete idiot. Well I mean they're the third in the West record wise they are tied. Will they have the the the number one offensive rating at one hundred sixteen point. Nine point of the offense is of all time per one hundred possessions of all time yes. They are currently fourteenth and in defensive rating and that it went up to twelve for a minute and then back down to fourteen after the kings game I thought at one point they were eighth eighth. No okay now. I don't think they ever that high but net rating. They are currently tied for second at nine point. Four both look at these teams James here. The the top ten teams in overall net rating number ten year the Denver Nuggets a lot of people would say their contenders number nine. The Houston Rockets. Another team that a lot of people say are contenders. I don't well for the sake of argument. Let's just say that most people consider these teams is to be well. I don't next what's next on your list. That's needed the list. It's next on the list number eight. Wait we're already on number eight. Oh did you start at number ten. Okay okay clearly. I wasn't paying attention very well. Okay continue on with your list to start over my point here. Okay so if you look at some of the top ten N.. Teams in overall net rating. And I think that going into the season most of these teams most people thought were contenders and this is kind kind of the level of play that they're playing at right now number ten. You have Denver Nuggets. I think a lot of people consider them to be contenders in the West. Maybe not win it all but contenders tenders of the Houston. Rockets are number nine. Obviously the the same way I mean they have James Harden people got better with Russell Westbrook. Then you have have Philadelphia at seven Toronto at six. Most people didn't see them there the clippers at five Boston at four Dallas at three. You will actually tied with Los Angeles for to the Lakers and Milwaukee at number one so most of those teams people. I thought coming into the season. We're going to be the or the best teams in the League and the mavs Mavericks Her right there with them. So can they contend. I definitely think they can contend with a lot are these teams. They've beaten some of them already true. Can they win it all. I don't know I think it depends on depends on porzingus in my opinion because is when you get deep in the playoffs. Everybody's good at defense. It's who can score despite. How good the defenses? Any need people that can put the ball in the basket I know Luca is one of those guys. PORZINGAS is going to have to help. Yeah I think You know when I think about it. That's a good point about are they contenders or can can they actually wouldn't it all because I think there is a difference there And so when I think about it I I kind of related back to like the thunder when they were sort of young or other teams like that kind of like the Trailblazers Navy lying on here or the warriors. When they hadn't won yet they were still kind of young? Like as a as a fan of those teams you felt like yeah. We're really good. I mean these guys are amazing. We were winning fifty plus games like yes we are contenders but as a person on the outside a you know maybe knows what it takes has seen what it takes to win a championship. You Know Oleg they're just missing that thing and you don't quite know what it is yet you just know that they're too young they can't do it yet. And so as a mass fan I think yes. They are really good and Luca I feel like can do anything. And you know the offense the defense the net rating all this stuff but I have to like if I look at it objectively objectively. I think they're they're like those teams that were really good but we're just too young and they couldn't quite get over the hump yet. The only agree hundred percent percent. But I feel like Luca is on another level like if you if you're looking at the thunder the young thunder a young durant. The argument could be made in fact. The argument is there is no argument Lucas better than Iran than he was and he was at this age. Yeah and it's it's not even close. Yeah same with a young Steph curry a young Klay Thompson all of these younger teams yes. Those superstars were kind of becoming who they were. Yeah but Lucas already at another eleven I saying he can. I mean he's gotTa prove it in the playoffs and I think it's a lot to ask ask for a twenty year old second year player to dominate in the playoffs. But if anybody can do it it would be. It would so when I'm posted this on twitter. I got got a bunch of responses and so I wanted to share them and then we can also go through insurance thoughts and one guy brought up the point that you just brought out about experienced Daniel the annual. I'm going to mispronounce his last name so I'm just going to say his at its at dizzy. Underscore to one four. He said I think the gap is experienced. We haven't been in. Those dog fights to to know how to come out on the other side. I think we'll get our hearts broken once or twice and then become a dynasty and I think that's Kinda like what you're saying it's just that experience what it takes like you know. These players know basketball. They know how to play. They know how to be good. They know how to shoot. And rebound and all that but there's that experience of like what what it's like in the playoffs and how you take your game to the next level and we saw that against the clippers like they had an ex- another level in the mavericks don't and I think that experience. This is something that it gives you something that you it's not tangible. Yeah and I don't know if you look at any of the great teams in history. The League I doubt any of them wanted all their very first year of being great they probably like Jordan got eliminated by the Pistons. I think two years in a row. Yeah I was thinking only the Celtics one. I can remember with Allen and Garnett and well that was a little different because you had the the you know. They were inveterate veteran. Yes and you had three stars at that point. They were already veteran. Yeah even the heat didn't win their first year right. Yeah and So I don't know I think it's a lot to ask. I think a lot depends on our awad depend how far they go in the playoffs. Kind of depends on the match ups who they go against and that was when point point so the other twitter is GonNa bring out from Jeremy Morris He said clippers are really really good. They're built for the playoffs and we don't match up super well with him but there isn't really early anymore Moves that allow us to match up well outside of adding someone like Drummond so in terms of trades. Could they get better. He said I I say we roll with with this. We can hang with anyone else. And so that was one point that I was making is like the clippers are the only team that really scares me. And so if it like you were saying the matchups they fall the right way to where the man's don't face them until maybe the conference finals or maybe not at all that. I think that really helps them. which you know the Mavericks have seen? What the clippers? I did that same kind of style of defense as seen that sense that clippers game true and they broke through it. I mean they saw it with the Lakers and we really struggled ruggles in the first half but in really in the first quarter in the second quarter he kind of figured some things out and that Lakers game in Los Angeles so I mean who who knows. Let's see what happens when we play them again. We see them again This month I believe Or maybe next month. We have the clippers again. And let's see what happens. I mean maybe the the mavericks have figured something out and maybe they don't scare us at all but I mean in my saying. They're going to beat the clippers. No I don't believe they would in a series. I don't think they would beat the clippers. I think they could take the Lakers. Only because of the the style the matchup Is kind of in the mavericks favor because the Lakers just don't have shooting mm-hmm and Carlisle is the king of beating teams. Don't have shooting zone defense. It takes like you have to be able to shoot threes. Yeah and so. It's it's not quite as effective as it used to be because most teams can shoot threes but against a team like the Lakers. You can zone in the zone. Also prevents prevents people from getting in the pain and as what Lebron his primary thing is getting into the paint and then either finishing the pain or dishing out. They beat Lebron before with his own. Because of that very reason. Yeah so I think the Lakers would-be a favourable matchup. I don't think I think the rockets would think we would beat the rockets rockets. The nuggets the jazz jazz knowingly sons. I don't none of those teams scare me. I think the mavericks are better than all of those teams. Yeah like I don't WanNa get cocky or anything But just I feel like I'm looking at it objectively and I think they could beat the right now avenue. I mean the Runaway Bunny Beats The rockets in the playoff. Yeah true. I've been on the other hand I I could. I wouldn't be surprised if the rockets beat them the rocket got beat last year by the Golden State Warriors Without Kevin Durant. Yeah they got beat deep by the Spurs they just lose in the playoffs because the harden effect. He's not as good in the playoffs. I don't care what anybody says. He's just not as they don't call fouls the same way..

"If it were that easy then every player would just come back. And there's there's so many players players that never really recover from a tornado that are never really themselves. Include Thompsons GONNA struggle his first year back to his shooting. Percentages are going to be lower. It's not I say this Salat about analysis and stats and all that. It's nothing personal. It's just it's just numbers it's just a fact you know it's not personal. It's just the way it is well and I think the Mavericks Organization understands the bigger picture or looking taking into account. They have insight into the matter. They're taking into account everything that's happening. They're taking into account that the torn ACL the coming back after a long layoff and then all the other factors with the the new coach in the new team and the new city and all of those things so and their mind. There is no need to force it. And even Donnie Nelson on on another podcast. He was a guest on and he said this year is really a year for. We are Porzingas to learn carlisle system and learn how to play with Luca. And that's it and I think that's why you see porzingas even after struggling to shoot the ball in this game when they showed him on the bench he's laughing he's smiling. He's having a good time because he doesn't have that pressure pressure. Yeah because he's got Luc. Help carry them in their winning and he can just enjoy it while he's recovering. Why we're making a big deal about about him? Not Banging down low with other players just doesn't make any sense to me. Well and to be honest you know I before before Porzingas came here. The only Knicks Games I saw was if the mavs were playing them or if I happen to catch it on a national game so I knew a bit about pausing his game aim but not a whole lot and so now when I go back and watch his highlights his games. What was his game? It's not really a a lot in the post now. He could do that. There were times that he did that and I think he's not the same when you compare those plays from what he was healthy to now he. He is not the same player but a lot of his offensive game was things that happened off the ball. And that's a lot of like we've talked about the past few few days especially but since the season started the players. Don't look for him as much in New York. They look from all the time because he was the only guy that could really do anything you think. So if he cut to the basket or if he came on a curl or or off of a screen they looked for him all the time and here. They don't really do that. I think one it's the offense to. They're not used to him and I think also because it's a new offense for him he's he is the kind of player. Sure he's kind of like a six seven wings slasher that can shoot threes where he would slash around or he'll get put back. dunks put back rebounds or all US. That's that's really kind of how he plays. And whenever he's within the flow of the offense he does a really good job of that. And we've seen stretches this season where he has done. Amen Yeah the Houston game. I think was a great example of kind of what you would see from core from porzingis whenever he's healthy and he knows it was the offense but you're GonNa have games where he just looks lost or his not going in and again that's just a factor of learning the offense and and learning became again. Yeah yeah well in another thing that I noticed that was different is his confidence. Level is not there yet. I never really thought about it. Although I feel like in the the past few games he's like lost his confidence more and more but overall I thought he was. Okay just kind of kind of slow or learning the game but really when you go back and look when he was on the Knicks he had this undeniable confidence. You could see it in his foot speed. In the way that he moved in his explosiveness in his reactions to plays afterwards he does not have the same confidence it might be because he's been gone and he's trying to find his way back mentally uh-huh and also could be the injury I mean I know that players do have that in their head kind of feeling uneasy about the leg and he said that it's not dare But you know it might still in the back of his head play a role or just whatever it is. The confidence is not quite there. So those same moves that same explosive. Oh so this you just don't see it right now. I think he'll be fine. Yeah obviously I would love for him to play better. I would love love for all of our hopes and expectations that all the fans had going into the season that the marriage is going to be completely dominant. Porzingis was going to average twenty five points a game. Even I thought he would average twenty points a game and he still might. There's a lot of season left. But he's just not that player right now and I. I don't think everybody should overreact. Based on what Shack Shack says I mean honestly but I think that's kind of how all mass fans are feeling one right now and we're trying to hold it in and when somebody else says it justifies. Don't get me wrong. I feel the same way I just have to. I have to hold back. Because there's so much more going on than just porzingas playing within the offense and I think the bottom line is that the mavs needs to get Ed Porzingas more involved and I think chuck and check might have had the wrong idea of how to do that. That's true yes they're on the right pay. I think you see that with mom's twitter. Yeah yeah that's kind of what everybody and I'm not sure everybody knows how to say they. They know something's not right. Yeah Yeah they're watching the game. They know it's not right Porzingis. This needs to be more involved. But I don't think any of US myself included know how to get him involved and it looks like Carlisle doesn't even know how yet so so I think that like you know. They talked a lot about how they re. The moms. Rely too much on Luca. Kenny Smith said in if they want to be a championship team they have to get poising is more involved larger part of the offense. We're talking about that. All the Hollander hundred percent agree. Yeah just not doesn't have to be in the post which is more involved in. It's just not gonNA happen this year. True Yeah I mean it now how the Mavericks are much better than I think. A lot of people thought. Yeah and so like that might cause them to oh expedite their expectations and that might be. Why Carlisle was given the ball? Maybe he's in his mind he's like it's time it's time to get this guy going. Even though he struggled it's time to to get him into the flow the offense One hundred percent agree. I think Porzingis has to be a franchise is player a dominant player in order for the championship team. Yeah I just I just don't think we're GONNA see it until later on this season and maybe not even until yeah I think that what the Mavericks in Porzingis together should try to more his game or model his game after would be somebody. Somebody like a Kevin Durant even a little bit of what you saw from Brandon. Ingram cassettes. We talk a lot about how porzingis should be like Dirk because he he has the same body type and he has the same game and a lot of ways but the way that the game is played nowadays durant is like the Modern Dirk. He does all those things. But it's more about spreading the floor and even more about shooting than than Dirk quizzes. He's not as much in the post and so I think in terms of getting porzingis involved volved is closer to that style of play. Not so much the post yeah. I mean no matter what style he plays. He's going to have to like any great player. You have to be able to do multiple things offensively in order if durant has a small on him. Yes it's GonNa take him down in the post it back down and yeah if he's got a big on him he's either GonNa do with three or drive to the basket so porzingas is going to have to be able to take taking advantage. No matter what I think he will the one thing that I do think he should model it after is more towards Dirk because as you get older your mobility goes away. We're going to see that with durant. Eventually it is the mobility is going to go away so the reason dirk lasted so long was because he had developed shots that that lasted or aged well and I think porzingas. Because he's seven three should he needs to get shots at age. Well ill matter when when he's or how old he is so that you got fifteen time worry about that. But like that's why I think even the maps don't like those like the contested two pointers. I get that but he is going to have to be able to take a small guy if they put him on him and actually back him down and get a shot. Close the basket comp- as opposed to what he does now like. He is going to have to be able to do that even if it's not you know ten times times a game no one hundred percent again and I think he will just this. You know Sierras is not any indication of poisonous is going to be like for the next ten years. Yeah Dude I what is he. Twenty four twenty three. He's either twenty twenty four so he's still young in a lot of young offensive so players whenever they recognize a weakness in their game. They spend the off season. And I think like we talked about a couple podcasts ago about his strength he developed L. upped or he gotta watch stronger this offseason but you can see how much strength he actually needed to develop as much as he'll not trust gets pushed around a little too much so a couple more off-seasons of building strength and then it'll get to a point where he doesn't get pushed around at all. Yeah so yeah. I think it's just. This is not really an indication of what went and again you can read the article if you want to on the side Dallas was cast dot com where we go into like what these guys were like. The year they came back from injury. Even there's another article published about the you're talking about the six stars that came back from a tornado. You guys are actually recovered and became superstars again. Even all of them their first year a bag they were not very good at all. So it's just this is just not who he's going to be for the next ten years. Okay that's enough about porzingis another major development that I know you were happy about was. Jj I thought thought JJ primarily came in because Carlisle could recognize a lack of energy. And I think he also recognized because it's been a long road trip and all these factors so he put in J. J. J. J. can help this take this team to another level and I thought the biggest thing in it it was was only a few minutes but the biggest thing that it does is when Jay Walker on the court at the same time allows Luca to play off the ball. Luca got a catching shoot. Yeah like unbelievable. He never gets those and he got one tonight and I think playing with Jj rows him to to play off the ball but jj not only can you not he can get his own shot..

"Just not now now. It doesn't hurt you every night because you know. You're not pointing the clippers every single night. Luca yes Luca covers a lot of sin. Yeah but he's just not a very good player is just not. He's not good. Defensively is fine. He got muscled around. He's not uh he's a terrible rebound and for that body for two six ten and that muscle Vladic and athletic. You should be a double digit rebounder. But he gets destroyed down will on rebounding and yeah and it's like okay. He's not that good fine. You know nothing against him. Whatever it happens but why is he starting why is he playing? Why is he? I mean I don't understand why he's playing. It's like I've said before when he first came here he could barely get off the bench and then he became a bench player earlier and now he's starting but I don't feel like he's gotten any better like I feel like he's still the same player. That shouldn't be getting minutes but now he's starting it's like. When did this happen like winded? Dwight Powell become a starter by default. That's the one thing that out of everything else. It's like all the role players struggle. They have a lot to learn physicality clippers Brazil. Better all that. I don't understand that one. He won't budge on Dwight. Yeah he just will not budge onto why Powell and I you know what sucks is if you look at the plus minus of the game and this is my problem with there are a couple love advance. Stats out there. That I think need to be thrown away. One of them is plus minus. Because you look at the plus minus for this game. Luca was Wego. Lugo Powell was zero. Everybody else was basically a negative. Yeah Luca was minus seven. Yeah they're negative. Powell was minus nineteen. Yeah exactly Powell was zero so if you were to look at that you would think Powell had a positive impact on the game just based on that one staff but that's the problem with that staff the equation on that stat or whatever that Status Ellen. You there's something wrong with it because when you watch the Game Powell's getting destroyed he can't rebound he can't defend he can't catch a pass he can't make a shot you know. He's not a very good player. But the box plus minus or the PLUS MINUS He. He was the best on the team tonight. So it makes it seem like he deserves a continue to play. And that's why Carlisle continues to play because Carlisle has a couple couple of advance stats that he falls on every time. And that's why players like to wipe Powell continued to get minutes. Even though when you watch the game you can clearly clearly see the guy sought is not good. Sorry I well. My other problem is like doc I know that. Like Powell is a lob threat and so there's that there's that part of the offense that kind of keeps the defense honest but I feel like cle- can can do that too now a threat at all like we're talking about. We're we're starting guy because he does one thing saying well and that is a role to the rim and jump in jump high. Now I get I think timing is a part of it I mean I know. There's everything thing in basketball is harder than it looks. Get that but I just feel like Cleveland could do that too. I don't I mean it can't be done if he's not as good at that one of your shooter her and federal defender and rebound. I feel like it balances so much better at every other aspect of the game and I feel like when Max acsi plays more minutes. He's a better player he. He has more of an impact on the game when he's taken out or he's not playing as much because we gotta get Powell his his minutes then Maxi doesn't impact the game as much so okay. I don't want to talk about why toweling it's too frustrating. Yes okay so sorry. Sorry about you know we talked about. There's things that they can learn from this game. There's things that you can't teach like players just being in better like you can't teach someone to be coy. Leonard Right okay. But there's things that they can learn from this game. What if you had to think of the number one thing saying that the mavs can improve on in the next game going forward? Would it be well the next game. You just go back to what you've been doing. I mean until you face the clippers again. You're going to Phoenix. You're better team than Phoenix. Now they're they're tough at home but you gotta go out there and beat them and then you play the Lakers. Would you match up. Really well against the Lakers. Just don't match up. Well against the clippers. I mean the two strongest positions had the clippers have are two of the weakest ones we have. And that's as to guard and small forward true. I mean we have tim. Hardaway Junior enduring finished meant they have Paul George Kawhi Leonard you know. It's just whatever so the what the Mavericks Organization can wear which is like as a team a less than they can take from this in order to be a better team going forward. I mean there's a lot you gotta learn that when a team is playing physically you gotta drive it. Yeah you gotTa take that physicality and and take it right back at them. I thought looking at a good job of that but yeah alice kind of didn't yeah. That's what you gotta do. Team team is playing that physical in his that dial in they can be beat off of back. Door cuts Or sometimes they'd take gambles but you've gotta drive it you got to take it into the lane and they're gonNA value Y- I was gonNA say kind of the same thing like A. We were Taiwan during the game. What could they do to to counteract this really tough physical defense and we talked about adding more movement like just if players moved a little better off the ball cut to the basket when if Luca gets doubled give him an outlet for to keep the offense moving? I would say that just kind of not getting stuck with leading the defence dictate while you're doing continue to move and forced the defense to to defend instead of just letting them set up and say like okay. This is what you're open and doing what you're not GonNa do another thing. I think Carlisle is going to have to to do differently and do what every other team in the league does is when you have two guys that are good one of them's on the court at all times. And when one of them's on the bench the other one's going to be out there and we had a lineup tonight. Where will we do all the time? We always have five five guys five bench guys against a content in a contending team a real good team when you play Milwaukee the clippers and and those teams you can't have five scrubs grubs out there going against because they either Paul Georgia Hawaii on the court the entire time and they have we Williams yet. We saw that against against the rockets. There was a stretch where I was just bench guys and like man they were really struggling. And the rockets were kind of chipping away at the lead and so oh Carlo put Luca and Porzingas back in in this game. I thought he waited really late in the flick. He put Lucan his back in their normal time. Six minutes. But I I was like you're down by twenty. If you WANNA make a run you're GONNA have to put them in earlier but we're not even going to talk about the like. Can you just be a little flexible flexible with like understand this situation. I felt like when it became a fourteen point lead with eight minutes to go. That was a good time to bring back your starters or like the there was a dead at ball and he brought in. I don't know who it was one or two players and then like a minute later. He brought in Luca and PORZINGAS. So we will see it wasn't even. It was literally the next possession as soon as the ball was inbounded. Yeah he goes like. Why didn't you just bring a minute was a waste of a minute? Yeah so that that that kind of flexibility with those rotations as frustrating but things they can learn the movement I think whenever Lucas getting doubled or whenever the defense is focusing focusing on him. Keeping the offense moving like. Don't let the defense just control everything and the second thing is really just a mental thing but being ready to match that intensity and I think that's when you're not expecting it I understand it's hard to adjust to it But again just keep taking it at at them. Yeah you you're solid team on one side. WHO's a veteran playoff team? And they know what vent playoff basketball's like and they brought playoff basketball tonight and he saw another team the hadn't in. I don't know how many years I don't think anybody other than Jj. I don't know if anybody's been on in the playoffs. They don't even know what that kind of an and you saw it against the Knicks in New York. Although the Knicks suck the environment. The hostility of the environment was a playoff magnitude avenue and the they didn't play well so they got to learn that now having some veterans that can play. Jj It would help if they get a trade for Donna. which is the rumors right now? That'll help but you really need. You need a guy that can score for. Yeah I think obviously Luca and Porzingas have playoff experience I mean located especially one championship and Mvp and all that and Euroleague but as as a team. They don't have that playoff experience. And I think you saw that in games like this relate to the knicks game like we were saying earlier. The clippers took took it to another level and the Mavericks. They've never they've never done it as a team. They don't know how to do it as a team. They just they just don't have that experience experience and so it's like all these. There are some things that are frustrating. But I think like one of the things that makes me down the most is just like they just got got. They're just not good enough. Yeah I mean that they learn from this game I mean it's it's possible. They learn enough and the next time they play them they. They're ready. Yeah well on Carlisle Himself Sullivan said that he didn't get ready yet for the game. And of course like I said. I don't think they were expecting that. Because they hadn't played that style style that defense all year so they just came to play and the Mavericks did too but not as Levian Leviev. Yeah I mean the Mavericks. I don't think they I mean they thought they'd put you could see the effort. You could see the focus. They were playing a normal game name but that was the problem. They just showed up like a normal game whereas the clippers relating seven and final mavs just couldn't match it. They've they've never done that before. But this whole thing about them getting punked or the mavs or soft or it's just one game like you're not gonNA so every time they lose your they they got punked. I mean I think they just got they. They're just not as good. I think they're just not as experienced. They're not as good as the clippers. Yeah they're just they're younger you know and less experience and yeah they're just not as good Really briefly you talked about you mentioned Igwe Dolla and I was sort of on the fence about whether or not. He's the right fit here because yes he would improve them the team defensively which they need. But I don't know I also think like their role player. Sometimes they struggled to be consistent. Offensively I mean does evolve release solve. That problem is eating Daum Loom. Ecuador is a big time player. And he's a big time player and he's a big time defender. You WanNA talk about walk down one of the best defenders. There's in the league the Dude one finals. MVP His defer his phone on Lebron James. So if you can bring in Iguala you gotta bring any Dala is. It's so low. Risk high reward type betrayed where he fits. I don't know if he starts where he starts. I feel like You know he's does. Doreen continued to star as much as I love Doreen with all due respect equality. It's a better player. I do think with the mavs house would end up doing is whether he starts her not. He's going to be closed in the game and the mavs will kind of play a smaller lineup with Porzingis. At the five Fini's Smith Igwe Dolla Allah. Tim Hardaway and Luca. I feel like that provides a lot of of wavelength and defense out there but who knows either way he he would instantly become one of your best players on your team. Just from the fact that his experience alone if he's motivated and ensure yeah you yeah that would that would have to be communicated with him does he wanna come to Dallas now. Maybe after watching this clippers obviously his first choice is the clippers. The Lakers the Memphis. Have the grizzlies have no desire. Apparently to trade him. I don't blame them I don't either. Yeah so if we can get him and he wants to come here and make the playoffs you gotta take him well see. That's the other thing is I think it's a win. Now move because you know some of these as young players that the Mavericks wanted develop maybe finished Smith may be right would lose minutes and you begin to an older guy..

"Go down to the clippers. Won Fourteen ninety nine. You know there's a lot of things that like we're frustrating. Obviously in a loss bad things happen. That's why you lose but ultimately I think what really happened is the mouse. Now's got beat by a better team. I think the clothes are just a better team when the clippers came to play. Yeah they They came with especially defensively. They've been hearing so much about the mavericks offense and they took it personally tonight as a personal challenge and they did a great job. I mean let's just be honest. They they came with everything they had tonight to kind of put their foot down as. Hey you guys are a nice up and coming team but it you're not on the same level and it's actually the man's it hurts because it's like man we got destroyed tonight by them you can take could ask compliment that The clippers took you seriously. And that's good to see because I don't think they took the rocket seriously because I haven't seen. I've wash a lot of clippers games. This year I haven't seen them play defense like that. They were locked in. They were locked in from for the entire forty eight minute not one minute it at all and so you know the mavs. They took the mavs seriously. They did a great job on them. They did a great job on Luca in the mascot. Beat I mean it's they won five in a row. You're going to lose some games. Well and the the clippers showed that you know they. Their record might be similar alert. They might be close in the standings but the clippers have just another level they can go to and the mavericks don't have that. Well it helps when you have Paul George Kawhi Leonard Williams Mantras Herald. You basically have four three or two. MVP candidates and a six man of the year every a year. Who probably could be an all-star mantras Herro who probably will win six says? Yeah and then Patrick. Beverley is a really good role player. It helps when we have really good players and they have just better players in the Mavericks and we have one guy that's on their level and they crowded him literally every time we get the ball. There's four or five guys around him. Yeah they definitely slowdown Lucas. So he finished with twenty two points but on four for fourteen shooting now he did shoot sixteen free throws and made fourteen of the but but they found a way to to kind of take him out of it. I didn't think he really had an opportunity to to go off. Or to takeover or to show the kind of Luca magic that we usually see and then yeah outside of that their role players have been hot lately. Would we've asked every episode here is. How long is this going to last? Because this has not been the norm for the past however players have been here well in. I think you you saw with Tim. Hardaway junior with all due respect to him. He's just not a star and you saw against other teams. Yeah he can get hot and he can play well but when the when you're going against championship level teams. You have to be able to create your own offense despite the defense and this whole thing defense wins championships. A load of crap. I mean I know the Clinton as one tonight. But that's just because the mavericks offense wasn't good enough and it's because they have one true legit star right now porzingas. He's he's just not porzingis yet but having another guy out there that can really really make a play and make a shot no matter how. Good the defenses. Those are the guys that help you to win and Tim Hardaway. Just isn't there yet. But you saw glimpses if you have that guy how good you can be. Yeah Yeah like the the hot street that he's been on it just shows you. Yeah when you have a player that's playing at that level. How good that makes your offense now? If only he could do that consistently and he does. He's been shooting like eighty percent from the floor as a starter literally doesn't have to continue that but just that level where he can be that third guy and you saw like Dorian played great defense on collided still made a lot of his shots because Kawai is a superstar and that's what stars do no matter. How good your defenses? They put the ball in the basket. That's what Michael Jordan. That's how Michael One. That's how coli won the championship. Tim Hardaway is just not at that level. If you play really good defense on him it's really GonNa shut him down. Yeah so but I don't want like like it's some it's not it's not. The problem was that their role players had been hot and tonight. They just weren't they. They missed a lot of shots. Yeah Okay so you talked about the clippers defense and one thing then. Rick talked about his his post game. Interview was the physicality ability This is the third time that I've seen a team super physical with Luga now tonight. It was the whole team against the entire mavericks but thought the Clippers play a little more straight up than other teams like other teams. I feel like they're just trying to get under his skin. Whereas I think the clippers were just playing it ED hardy? Do you think they went too far with that or like. Were you okay with that. Or how do you think that affected Luka. I don't think it really affected him. Luka to me was smart when he recognized the physicality of the game he was driving it a lot he got a lot of free throws rose. And that's what you have to do. Teams play really physically like that. You have to drive. You have to put them in a position to foul because more like they were just swipe at everything jumping on everything you got to force him to value and Luca understood that. I don't think anybody else on the teamed. Yeah that was one thing that we noticed was it. Seemed like everybody else was afraid to drive it. There is there is long stretches where they would just pass it around the perimeter. Internet was like someone who goes. They didn't WanNa get hit. I guess you got to want to get hit. Unfortunately you have to thrive off that that I think one player that thrives off that really well is Berea. Yeah obviously if you listen to podcasts you know I believe Berea area should be playing and I believe he should be playing for games specifically like this anytime we have a tough match-up against a really good team. BEREA comes to play and he shows up and he plays well. And that's the kind of guy that you need to help Luke and Porzingis right now because the other guys you saw they they were kind of shell shocked by the whole game. They were thrown off by the physicality seen Kawai. Am Paul George on the other side. I thought they got intimidated. Now berea played sixteen minutes. Some of that was in garbage. Time Interestingly he was the only player you're outside of Justin Jackson who also only played two minutes of garbage time he was the only player with a positive plus minus he was plus five. The sixteen minutes will say they managed garbage garbage time. That's thirteen to fourteen minutes. Do you think that was enough. Are you saying that he should play every game. This many minutes. Yeah I believe. Jj should be playing every game. I think he should become an off the bench and I think obviously that means somebody's minutes are going to go away in a lot of people. Don't WanNa hear that. In my opinion the minutes need be taken away from Jalen. It's not that Jalen. Did anything. Wrong Jalen Nice promising young player but if you want to win big time games or if you want to win more consistently play big players big time players and JJ has a history of being a big time player in a game like this where the clippers came out early and you are struggling to get offense. That's a game you could go to. Jj Little Bit early. Bring him in let let him go out there and create some space. There's a reason why he started in the finals. Because of that very thing he he makes plays. He's a playmaker whether he's scoring or getting somebody else open for shots and I believe he should be playing every game. Yeah I am. I thought he played really well. He had he was five for eleven at twelve points to for three on three pointers and yeah. The rest are role players they struggled with. They didn't really drive it. They also struggle with the physicality and then they just missed miss shots. I think they got intimidated. Yeah I think they got now. Okay I want to say something about that because a lot of people on twitter are saying that the Mavericks Scott punked and showed that they're soft which it's funny because I feel like we are kind of saying that but I'm also not saying that soft or pong hung first of all this whole saw thing that started a long time ago. It really the the soft phrase came out derk Dirk that that was never used in the league until somebody decided to use it with Dirk. People believe that if you're not pushing back or you're not physical back your soft oft yes you have to be physical but being softer tough does not depend on the physical nature of the game. It's in your mind and yes yes I do believe that some of the players were intimidated by the fact that they had Paul George and Kawhi Leonard on the other side of the court and they struggled. They didn't want to drive. They pass it around. But I think that's more of a sign of youth and inexperience Agnes now now any other team. I understand the concept of what what happened and why you could describe it as this but just based on what I know of the Mavericks I think the youth and experience and also they're just not as good as the clippers liberal have. Yeah they just have better players and and the clippers decided to come out to play and you lost. It's not at the end of the world. What were you expecting to win? Emily Sucks yes I know and trust me. I was hurting for the first half of the game. I didn't WanNa talk to anybody but you come back to reality and it's like it's just one game and it sucks but you can learn from it and you just go on if they win the next to no one's going to remember this. This came. Yeah I think really again. I just think it showed that the clippers have that next level to go to the Mavericks. Don't they have a lot of guys that they're developing guys is that are young and I think you just Kinda saw that that split whereas like the older veteran team guys I have won championships. have been in the playoffs playoffs consecutive year. And they were like we get it. You want to win. But we're just better than you again. I think the mavericks they the Clippers took you seriously that means the mavericks are a good team. Yeah now the clippers just needed to show how good the mavs aren't ready to compete yet. Ah But the clippers recognize the mavs. Were a good team and they came to play. I haven't seen them play defense like that all year long. I don't think they took the rockets seriously. I watched that game. They didn't play the same defense against rockets. Because no one's a free hard until the last one so it's just it's a loss it sucks. You know it hurts and you got to move on one thing. Do you WanNa talk about Dwight Powell. I mean okay so so of all the things in this game they were like what the clippers are. Just better good effort. There's definitely some things they can work on. But they're just not as good right now but the one thing being in that just makes me WANNA tear my hair out is Dwight Powell and I just. I don't understand why he's and I say this there's two things I say every time first Maxi is a better shooter render and rewound or yes and second I feel like Dwight Powell. He could go out out there and stand at Center Court ring at Center Court and he was still get his minutes I I just I don't understand he was. He had ten points screens and three rebounds. I just it on defense is like he's not even there rebounding. Forget it and he's he can't can't shoot. I just I don't understand it.
