"Junior and Odyssey insider Cody decker. Well, we are a week and a half into the 2022 season lot going down. Welcome in to another episode of big time baseball. I'm Tony Gwynn junior alongside my guy Cody decker Cody. Man, this first half of the first week and a half of the season has, I don't know, it hasn't been too surprising. The teams that I think we expect it to be good are good and it seems that we expect to be bad or bad. As of right now, it's only what, 11, 12, 13 games at this point. And another couple of teams have been surprising and the other couple teams onto some slow starts. I'm looking at you, New York Yankees, and you know, teams that I've really, I think even like areas like Vegas have faded certain teams that I think deserve another really good look. And two teams that immediately come to mind, Detroit tigers, I think, is a very good baseball team that's gonna cause a lot of trouble for a lot of teams and Major League Baseball throughout the season. And the Seattle Mariners are my team this year, man. I love these guys over there in the ALS. So baseball is about as exciting as it's ever been. Well, we got a lot of ground to cover today, but I want to talk about something first that you covered. I think you and John covered last week in that giants Padres series, the whole once a year, it feels, it feels like we have to have this conversation about these quote unquote, unwritten rules, and how archaic or how irrelevant or whatever your stance is on it. It popped up ugly head up again after the Giants were really bludgeoning the Padres through the first couple innings. You had a stolen base up. I think it was in the second inning that didn't really bother me at all. I thought everybody was understanding that it was so early in the game. You can't really, you can't really have a problem with it, but there was a bunt. I think it was in the 5th that raised a lot of eyebrows, the heat from the Padres, certainly looked like Gabe capler was telling Mauricio dubon that he was in the wrong. But then the following day, he told the press that, you know, this is how we want to play baseball. And I want to get your take on this. I don't know what you and John actually talked about on this, but there seems to be some confusion about these so called unwritten rules. Yes. And, you know, we touched on this a little bit with John, but at the end of the day, you know, you and I both played this game. We both dealt with unwritten rules. We've dealt with consequences of unwritten rules. Many times, but this was one of those scenarios and I do remember this very vividly this particular play because it was in the 6th inning. They were up the Giants were up 9 runs. And here's where I get into my things because I'm seeing both sides of this entire argument. One, do I like unwritten rules? Do I like people getting after each other foreign written rules? No. But on the flip side, I totally understand taking exception to being down 9 runs and someone laying down a drag bunt without a doubt. Because there is something Gabe Kepler said, we want to be competitive. Yo, we want to fight until the end. And he is right. You got to go for everything you can. You can't let go of the jugular on any team. And but there is the aspect. You're talking about being competitive. There's nothing competitive about a drag bunt up 9 runs. And you saw a Gabe capillaries reaction. Hell, you saw the Padres react. You saw bob Melvin's reaction. They were pissed. You saw Mauricio duban, come back in the dugout and get a stern talking to from Gabe capler. Certainly seemed like it, right? Yeah. And it seemed as though Mauricio was nodding his head up and down as if he completely understood what he did and made a mistake. And then Gabe Kepler came out the next day and defended his guy. One first things first, kudos to Gabe Kepler. I think everything he said was right. Right. Two, I love that he went out and defended his player and I hope that Tony la Russo can immediately learn something from this. Absolutely. Three, do not bunt up down, up 9 runs. Don't do it. It's just stupid. It's not competitive. There's nothing about it that's competitive. If anything, it just seems as though you're trying to catch chase your own stats and raise your own average. So if it honestly to me, it seems more of a selfish play than a team play. Four, on top of that, listen, the Padres. I'm a little confused on why the Padres of all teams are so angry 'cause this is a team that breaks more unwritten rules than any 5 teams. This is a team that two years ago hit the Grand Slam up 5 runs with one or three count and everyone was mad at them and everyone was like, well, what unwritten rules? Unwritten rules are stupid. You can't play both sides, Padres. You're either unwritten rules or they're aren't. You can't be mad and happy at the same time. Stop being stupid. That is a 100% a fair argument to have in terms of what happened two years ago and what happened in that first or second series against a giants of the year. I'll say this. I like what Gabe did because as a manager, you do have to at least project that you have your your guys back. And they know it. It's one thing to say something to them. In private. But it's a completely different thing to go public with it. And we saw the ramifications of that last year with the White Sox and Tony La Russa. Now it worked out for them. Those guys seem to be able to get over it. But I say this. I think too many times when we start talking about the unwritten rules. The competitive aspect gets lost in this. Regardless of what sports your plan, nobody likes to get beat down, right? And when you feel like somebody's rubbing it in, of course, you're going to be mad about it. There's no unwritten rule about that. Like there's, that is just the concept of competitive sports, right? You're not going to, you don't want nobody kicking you while you're down. Secondly, I think technically, when Gabe says, this is how we want to play, I think he's a 100% right. That is how they want to play. I think every team wants to keep their foot on the gas and play their best baseball. However, like you said, I don't know how bunning is getting you there, right? And the other thing that I think complicates it, complicates this whole situation because I think those who have played the game understand the rules. They understand why they exist, at least most of them. Some of them I think you and I both agree are just stupid. They never have made sense, but that's neither here or there. I think for the public that's on the outside looking in, that doesn't understand it, it certainly doesn't help things when Gabe is at least visually looks like he is coming down on Dubai, but then publicly saying something different because it keeps this narrative that, you know, baseball's archaic and they have these stupid rules that don't make sense to anybody who hasn't played. So now we have to have the conversation. Kim Rosenthal kind of wrote an article about, you know, basically praising Gabe capler for his throwing away of the unwritten rules..

"Doing it like at them. All they were just doing it, 'cause that's what they're there to do with the ballpark. And I think that it's important in moments like this to like acknowledge that what is what is a terrible feeling for you isn't necessarily the problem of the other person, right? Like it would be one thing if I don't even know what it would look like. Like I'm struggling to think of what it would look like for the Giants to be like in the wrong here. Like what they would have needed to do for me to be like, all right guys, that's a little much like you're up by a billion runs. You can relax, but I think you just get to play baseball, I think Kepler is right that doing that does press an advantage later in the series. And I know that some of the guys on San Diego were like, well, you know, maybe I think it was will Myers that was like, this is inviting other teams to do the same to them in the reverse situation. It's like, yeah. Okay. Sure. That's the project here. The project is playing baseball. And I think it's especially important to keep sight of the fact that while the team wide stakes in this moment were pretty low for San Francisco. That doesn't mean that the individual players involved in this game don't have stakes themselves, right? There's no asterisk next to your game log when you've kind of given it up for the other team because you're ahead by 13 runs, right? Like we don't blow out adjust your stats in that way. So, you know, if you're a Mauricio dubon and you've played a season's worth of games across four years and you're trying to make a case to be an important part of a contending ball club, like you just gotta get on base. What are you talking about? The stakes for Mauricio dubon are his career. It's not you feeling disappointed. And again, I don't want to discount that feeling of disappointment, but I think that we have to as individuals have a moment of self reflection about how much that needs to be the responsibility of other people. And again, if they were behaving in a way that felt pointed or mean or inconsiderate, I guess I'd get it a little bit more, but I'd like it if these guys would just come out and say, you know, I wish we had won. It sucks that we didn't want that felt bad. You know? Like it's okay for it to feel bad saying it feels bad, doesn't become this huge statement about the game and playing it a particular way. It's like, it just isn't acknowledgment of your reality. Like, that felt bad. I wish it was different. Like, that sucked. But that'd be fine. Air cosmos should say that. He should be familiar with it one would think. Right. Yeah, and to their slight credit, I suppose there was no retaliation or anything. They didn't drill anyone the next day. They were sure stand up, guys, 'cause they had to throw their baseball the other team. And what are we doing? That's where the fire has been set by baseball history, but instead they just got dominated by Logan Webb and like a two hour 13 minute game, but no benches cleared, no brawls happened, nothing, so that was refreshing. But I think I appreciate this not only just stating it so plainly, not even saying like, oh, I don't have a problem with it, but saying like, no, we are actively. We're doing a press the point. And of course it makes sense. It's so not to and how can you ask one player who if the pitcher is trying to get him out, he's just not supposed to get on base or whatever, like, people are paying based on the results. It's not such. But to make it a team philosophy, if the Giants are successful, if they continue to be a winning team, I could see that really breaking down whatever resistance remains. And the Giants are a respected team and a respected organization and a team that's coming off an incredible season. So for them to do that with a lot of veteran players, I think that furthers the idea that when some credibility to the idea that we don't have to abide by these old rules anymore, what's interesting to me is Kepler is basically making it sound as if the Giants are doing this, not because they think the unwritten rules are silly, though they are, but because they think that there's an advantage to them. In pressing their normal advantage. And that kind of goes along with something that I remember Sam Miller writing for ESPN a few years ago in a very similar situation. I don't recall the exact circumstances, but I think it was a bunt that was laid down that involved the twins, it involved Brian Dozier and Brian Dozier was upset about an opponent's bunt. And the way that Sam broke it down, he wrote unwritten rules are a scam that players run on each other to trick their opponents into acting against their own self interests. Yes. They are stupid, of course, the unwritten rules that is. But more than that, they're brilliant on multiple levels, and they seem to work, and ever since I realized this, I've been a lot less annoyed. So Sam pointed out, for example, is that his goal is not to get the opponent to quote unquote, respect the game, whatever that means, but to get the twins opponents to go easy on the twins. As Sam wrote, run down the unwritten rules that are most often enforced, and almost all of them hit these themes. Don't bunt to break up a no hitter because we want to throw a no hitter. Brilliant. Don't yell ha, right when they're about to catch a pop up because that would start with us. And we might drop it. I'm sure it would. Don't but ten times that our pitcher who has the yips because he'll probably mess up and you'll get on base, et cetera, et cetera. There's always an ulterior motive here and an advantage to the team. What I wonder, though, and I don't think there needs to be any great advantage to justify doing this because it's only logical to just play to win at all times, but I could imagine that there could be a Clubhouse chemistry morale boost to this, like hey, it's us against the world, right? And we're the ones who were going over the hump here and we're going to take on these old rules about baseball and maybe that could be a bonding exercise. But do you buy the idea that there could really be like a season long season series type of advantage to the Giants in this? The idea of forcing the other pitcher to throw as many pitches as possible, just getting more footage on video seeing the opposing pitcher more times. Do you think that is a significant incentive? Is that a reason to do this over and above just why wouldn't you do this? I guess I'm skeptical. Well, I'm skeptical that it is a huge advantage. I think it would be silly to think that there's no advantage, right? Like the idea that you run through part of a bullpen or tax particular guys that you're able to rest your dudes and employ lower leverage relievers because you've expanded your lead such that you don't even think about touching your high leverage guys like, yeah, I'm sure there's something to be had there..

"It's just a Brave New World here in Major League Baseball and I'm glad to see it because it's been a long time coming. Yeah, I mean, it's absolutely great to see that and listen there and has been a very productive coach for them and it was nice to see her get on the field be a first base coach. Nice way to break in there and certainly broke a nice barrier, fantastic. And you're right, Rachel balkavi, she won her first game, managing for the Yankees minor league demon Tampa. And you know, it's nice to see these barriers being broken. We obviously have a female GM with the Marlins. It started this couple of years ago with Kim Aang and, you know, you wonder how long will be before we have a major league manager who's a woman that would be a very, very nice thing if we get to that point. While we're still around in baseball fans and I certainly hope that does happen. Someone fortunate news in her first game, though, because right out the gate, in her first game coaching first base, she is dealing with a very angry dugout, not directed at her, but directed at Mauricio Dubois. Now, I know a lot of old school guys, I'm listen, I love game the game growing and changing and making adjustments, but I am still very, very got a lot of old school in me. Let's be real clear I was trained my whole life by Reggie Smith. No one's more old school than Reggie. I remember when I was 13 years old, I got thrown at by Brad Leslie who at the time was a major league closer. I mean, it's part of the game, but watching Mauricio Dubai on Tuesday evening, lay down a drag bun with nobody on up by 9. Now I'm normally not a guy that sits around going, oh well, you know, the unwritten rules, you gotta respect the game. I'm normally on the other side. When you see a guy swinging three O listen, if it's three O just hack, let's get it going. But I do kind of see the Padres and bob Melvin's point of being angry by a drag bunt up 9 runs that late in the game. I'm a big believer in the 5 after 5 rule, however, you know, 5 is still not exactly a done deal that you're gonna win that ball game, but 9 feels pretty comfortable. I would have taken exception to it as well. I've known Mauricio double bond since he was like 17 years old. He's a great kid. He's extremely talented, but, you know, he does have flashes where he makes mistakes like this and I truly do think this was a mistake. You saw bob Melvin reacting, you saw Gabe Kaplan reacting. What are your thoughts on this, John? Yeah, I mean, you're a young old school guy, I guess I'm an old new school guy because it doesn't bother me at all. I mean, obviously you were a professional baseball player. I didn't get past the hungry harbor little league in 19, I don't know what that was. 73. It was my last year playing baseball. So, I mean, you're more the expert on this, but to me, they're all professionals, they're major leaguers, just play the game. And do it however you can. I mean, make a better pitch if you don't want the guy to bunt for a hit and keep playing. And, you know, I've seen a 9 run lead go by the boards. I can't remember exactly when, but I'm sure I have. And I just, I get that there were unwritten rules. I don't like any of them. And I think you just got to play the game. I agree with your Kepler did not react with well to it at all. So I'm assuming that he didn't like it. Based on his drug reaction, although he supported Dubai afterward, you know, his comments didn't suggest he was upset, but I kind of believe what I saw in the dugout and you know, I think probably every real baseball player agrees with you, but you know, I'm not a real baseball player. I'm a fan and a journalist and I think you should always keep trying no matter what. If it's college sports and the score is 63 to nothing and there's a minute to go, yeah, don't throw the bomb, but in baseball, you know, it's not timed, you know? Theoretically, anybody can come back. So to me it didn't bother me. Yeah, I'm kind of with you, John when it comes to unwritten rules because as much as I am an ex player and I understand the purpose of unwritten rules, here's one thing that I do not think should be tolerated anymore. If Mauricio dubon are one of the Giants is thrown at, this is where I think the game needs to grow up a little bit because at this point throwing out guys to me is just beyond childish. I don't think it's a part of it. It should be a part of the game just because you don't like take exception to something that somebody does. I think this could be solved with a conversation. Basically what Gabe Kepler did in the dugout, I think is all that needs to be done. You know, I think it's something for Dubois to just learn from and everybody should move on. But if the Padres escalate this on Wednesday night, now I have a serious problem when it comes to the quote unquote unwritten rules of baseball. Yeah, I mean, I'm with you. I never liked throwing it at anybody, and hopefully we were going to get beyond that. At some point, I know it's not completely as we have suspensions. For guys throwing it guys and I like the fact that MLB has stepped up the suspensions. Giving them more frequently and longer suspensions, I would go even longer to me it's dangerous to throw at somebody, particularly if you throw, you know, above the neck area, it's not good. And you know, I'm with you on that a 100%. Yeah. I mean, trust me, if you've never been hit in the head by a 98, it's not fun. I've been hitting the head with 98. It's a very unpleasant experience. And it's not just the unpleasant experience of having it happen. There's also the unknown of the residual effects that can be happening afterwards. There was one time I got hit in the head in double-A. I didn't really feel the results of it until three days later. I had to sit out two days. Oh my gosh. Yeah, it was a very unpleasant experience. And it wasn't like the guy was throwing me on purpose. It was a fastball that got away from him, and accidents happen. But, you know, when you're doing that on purpose, listen, a baseball is a deadly weapon. That is a ball coming 98 at you. That bowl is hard. It is dangerous. Guys get hurt. And I don't think that's something that should be threatened throughout the game in my personal opinion. But can I absolutely with you on that?.

"Maybe Aaron Sanchez comes back to the I l I've got questions about how effective he can be Sammy long. Still on the aisle right now. Maybe he joins the bullpen is the left handed asset. Yeah, maybe Farhaan Anxiety doesn't need to do all that much at the trade deadline to upgrade the San Francisco Giants. If they do stay healthy, I'm of the belief that you can always use. Another starting pitcher. Another right handed bullpen arm. Perhaps another power hitting outfielder. I don't know if the Jazz will go out and get all three. But I do think that The composition of this roster and the possibilities for this Giants team in a really difficult second half 35 of their last 73 games against teams that are currently in playoff position. That could change if they were just healthy. Of course, you're betting on a lot. When you're talking about one of the oldest teams in baseball. Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford. 34 year olds having career years who would have guessed? Like I said on Tuesday morning show. Back in 2019 Buster Posey, one of the worst offensive seasons of his career. Ever got it going coming back from the hip surgery hitches to 57. He looked done. Brandon Crawford worse qualified hitter in baseball. He looked like he was ticketed. For a dude FA as opposed to potential contract extension at the end of 2021. Give these guys credit game Catherine his staff credit. They've kept the group healthy in terms of those two guys outside of poses recent thumb injury and they kept the group productive. So health could be very important. For this Giants team. Going up and down the roster. Think that Crawford might be The only two. He's one of three opening day starters who hasn't missed time due to an injured list in this season. It's Crawford. It's Mauricio Dubon, who's down in Triple A and it's awesome, Slater. Of course, isn't producing the level. The Giants would love 650 on the text line. A few other people in the text line Charming and they would have liked to have seen more Giants love on the broadcast for the All Star game, And maybe it could be bulletin board material. I'll tell you after talking to a number of Giants players this season about how they were doubted. About how they came into the year with low expectations what they considerable bulletin board material. It's just the stuff from the off season. They don't really care how they're treated in season. They know that the power rankings are never going to give them the same type of love that they traditionally give the Dodgers and they know that they'll continue to be overlooked despite having the league's best record. But They were fueled by the 73 74 75 win predictions. The 75 Win over under total in Las Vegas that they could be poised to hit by the middle of August. Don't think there is fueled by Not having The type of shine during the All Star game at some of the other teams did And speaking of the All Star Game on Tuesday morning. Press conference. Outside course field, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. He had some interesting things to say about the future. The immediate future of baseball. Some things that will Surprisingly, Resonate well with the listeners on this show. I know after talking about my affinity for seven inning double headers that the text line always blows up with people telling me I'm wrong Well, Rob Manfred says The seven inning double headers are probably coming to an end. It was a covid change, and it's not something they want to continue and look I've seen the light. I now understand that the worst thing going on in baseball right now is the split admission. Seven ng doubleheader where I've seen this a few times this season. The Giants and Nationals participated in one in D. C back in June. You have an afternoon game. You clear the ballpark. Then you have an evening game. It is ridiculous. If you're doing Saturday night doubleheaders, you have to do them back to back. You cannot have pants. You cannot have fans paying For two separate games in a day. There are only seven innings that is robbing fans that is mistreating fans. I'm fine with 14 innings If you just play him straight through you take a 30 minute 45 minute break in between. Sometimes it becomes a necessity with wet weather with In 2020 the covid issues that some teams ran into. But it is probably for the best seven. Any double headers are coming to an end. Another thing coming to an end, and this surprises me a little bit. Because this has been well received by major league players. The runner on second base in extra innings is probably Going away in 2022, according to Rob Manfred. I'd be interested to see if players would negotiate into the new C B A. The current one expires December 1st. Some sort of a tweet where you start to put around runner on second base in the 12th inning or the 13th inning to really limit those long games. They all seem to hate so much. I will tell you that this 10th inning change has not fazed a whole lot of players. Because for one so many have come up through the minor leagues, where it's already been in place for the last several years. For two. I hate the 16 17 17 inning games that.

"Having him out there for the first six innings of the game. They're going to get the necessary offensive production. Has been completely barren offensive season for Dickerson, eight home runs 407 slugging percentage, but this is not what we expected. In the left fielder who was so key that platoon last year with Darren Rough and Austin Slater. Just mashes right handed pitching, Dickerson, someone who I think we can all agree. Could be a huge key in the Giants lineup if they let him and look Maybe Farhan Zaidi seen enough? Maybe at the halfway point of the season, he decides to go out and get another left handed hitting outfielder. Maybe he pulls off the blockbuster that so many Giants fans have texted and tweeted about. Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers. But I do think that Dickerson will have an opportunity coming out of the All Star break. Against the Cardinals against the Dodgers. To try and get hot one more time before the Giants consider making a move. Maybe that's all he needs. We've seen how quickly he can heat up. We've seen how quickly He can carry an offence. Put a team on his back. So let's Stella and Dickerson to me. The two left handed bats. Who could step up and keep this giant season has been a dream so far. Going at that current pace. On the mound. The Giants need so much more from Johnny Cueto. So much more. They're paying him to be the ace of a staff. And look, I know that the decision to pay him 22 million for the 2021 season was made back in December. 2015 It's been tough for Johnny Cueto. Ever since that Tommy John surgery ever since he first felt the twinge in his elbow. Back in 2018. Man. The Giants have seen glimpses. We saw it. June 25th. Oracle Park first game at full capacity. First game where the fans could really Have their presence felt. 35,000 plus Johnny Cueto, seven innings, five hits, No runs, six strikeouts, He dazzled against the Oakland A's. He brought that season E R. A down at 3.63, quite respectable in the Giants would take That kind of an effort. Not a seven inning shutout. Of course, they'll take that any night but 3.63 from Johnny Cueto over the second half, they would love that that would provide tremendous ability to rotation. Looks really good at the top with Kevin Gausman and Anthony DeSclafani, who might be the most underrated starter National League right now. Johnny Cueto. They need more length from the any more consistency from they need him to keep the ball in the ballpark. A more regular basis. His last six starts. He's given up nine home runs too high of a rate. So Johnny Cueto very key. 209 chiming in under the radar. Dude is Tiro Estrada. He could step up and play a big role, not an everyday guy, but he can come up big. I love that. I love that idea. The one question I have about Tiro Estrada, who's hit over 300 since joining the giant from Triple A Sacramento. Great suggestion there plays a variety of different positions. Has anyone checked in on Mauricio Dubon is doing a triple A Sacramento averages at 4 20. Right now. He's played a variety of different positions. I wonder if the Jazz would give him one more opportunity to come back. Improve himself instead of sticking with Estrada, maybe you send him back down. Just get some more consistent at bats Bring to bomb back up. To me. There is no reason to mess with the success that Estrada has had. We saw the Grand Slam at Chase Field a few weeks ago. That was a big moment for him. This is a guy who is a former top prospect in the Yankees organization, So I like that call on Tiro Estrada. And then one more. Again, hard to say under the radar, but definitely someone the Giants could use more of and what he's given over his past few starts that have been separated by a long stint on the injured list, and it's Logan Web. The right hander. Completely turned a corner in spring training down in Scottsdale. I saw Logan Web looked like a polished veteran during spring training, and then he came out at the beginning of the season was throwing far too many changeups. Was predictable. And his ER once again soared up over 4.5. It looks like he might be ticketed for a role in the bullpen, but in his last four outings, 20 innings Two earned runs. 23 strikeouts really hard to hit. We saw glimpse of the brilliance that he can provide with three innings of one hit Ball four strikeouts against Washington Nationals last Friday night. I believe that we will see him. In this Giants Dodgers series down at Dodger Stadium next week. So those are some of my picks. Would love to hear yours on the text line, so it can be our who needs to step up for the Giants in the second half. Who needs to play a big role in keeping this Giants momentum going? "But my tweet was this is like if San Fran was a uniform, the words San Fran, Whenever I hear a new player come to the Giants, and they're like I'm so happy to be here in San Fran. I just cringe. And that's kind of what happened with this uniform, Just like no, you know, centered a little bit. But no. And then I got on with my day. It's not life and death. You know, I made some fun with it. I got to call him out of it. I went and found the ugliest. A uniform that the Giants war for one day in 1999, that was uglier than that, And then you know, I'm not angry, but I think it's an ugly uniform markets and I know we're in disagreement on this, but Well, I think it's an ugly uniform. But I have a predisposition that I have to admit, like you have a really hard time. Uh, like upsetting me with anything that's orange. Like orange is just my jam like No. And this is where again you and I differ because you're Burlingame Panther like Sam until bear cats. San Francisco Giants Orange is my favorite fruit. There's an orange peel sitting by my foot right now here. At my house that I just ate for lunch. Like if you make it orange, I'm going to be like, Ooh, pretty. So that was kind of the way that I looked at this, but I also want to just wait and see what it looks like out on the field. So you know, maybe that's me. But do you not even like orange Fridays like do you want? Do you want the regular jersey all the time? I think Orange Friday is like radical for the Giants and as radical as they should get, but even Orange Friday the logo they're very careful to make things like little subtle nods. The way the stripes are done. They're like The way the stripes were in the eighties, and the Giants logo is kind of old school. They put them out there in orange, but then they push it back by putting a lot of things that remind you this is the Giants. There's nothing on this new uniform. That reminds you that it's the Giants like even that, G. I'm like where they get that she I've never seen that G on any sports team in San Francisco and I I like orange. I don't even mind that they creamsicle did it and made it. You know, I don't know why they didn't use international arms like the Golden Gate Bridge, something we can connect to. But if you're going to do a different orange, that's fine. But I don't like orange. With the absence of any other color mark. You could put on a pair of sunglasses that are orange tinted, and every player would look like their uniform would be completely white. There is nothing on this uniform. There's no black trim. There is nothing. It's just orange. So I thought the hat was okay. I mean, again. It's got the Golden Gate Bridge. I mean, it looked a little bit like appear three. Here's 39 half, but I like Pier 39. Alright, that's fine. They've got to sell. Sell the Giants to international audiences. That was okay. Mike Kruger came out in a hoodie that again It looked like a Gatorade hoody. But I was like, that's a pretty sweet looking hoodie. It looked better on an orange hoodie with white And I was like, I'd buy that hoodie, but this uniform, I just look at it, and I think it's going to look worse on Friday. Um, is that the first day? They're playing with it? Yeah. Friday and the Giants appear. Yeah, well, we've been told is the people inside the organization say no, It looks better. It looks better on the field that it will at that, you know, in the modeling shoot pictures that we've seen. If it looked better on the field. Then why do all the players who put it on and modeled for it Looks like they're in a hostage situation. Brandon Crawford, and it's because I found that 1999 Jersey It's just like Sleeveless Jersey was awful is for turn ahead the clock day and no joke. The Giants like created a jersey for what jerseys might look like in 2021, Okay, and all the players back then, too. It looks like a total hostage situation that this is true the city jersey when they debuted the city jersey for the Warriors in the seventies. Same thing. All the players like look like, Oh, God, so maybe in 50 years this will be the new City, jersey. The Creamsicle giants jersey will be sold internationally. And revered, but I don't think so. I'm not going to bet on it. I love that. You said that they look like they're in a hostage situation because Mauricio Dubon is one of the guys. He is at a hostage. He's being held hostage by Sacramento right now, So maybe that's why he has that look on his face. Yeah. Good point. Well, alright, well, okay, so fun to connect with you on this and and let's let's text Friday night. When we see what it looks like on the field. I would love to know if you think it got better or worse. That sounds good. We will talk about that. And I will dig up some old math department party. Photos from Out in the late seventies early eighties and see if we're wearing tough skins. And you know what? The fashion was back then I'm going to play kazoo on the show on Friday, if that's okay with you. Okay, you can. All right. Thank you, sir. Great to talk to you Always. Yeah. Good catching up. Have a good day. All right, you two. There he goes. Peter Hart lob the kazoo joke. He understood. Don't worry. You didn't. He did. My dad and his dad did And it was for them. Peter Hartlaub San Francisco Chronicle. He hates the jerseys. I don't mind them. At least not yet. I want to see him on the field. Plus, I love orange period. No questions asked. My daughter said the same thing that, he said, which is little black trim. Might have made this whole thing work a little bit better. I'm open to that idea. "In many ways that that took place historical park, but one time we'll cut you some slack one time. For fans who are just getting used to getting back in the ballpark with 30,000 plus We can understand it the greater atrocity from Monday I think that many people will agree with this. The city connect uniforms. That were released by Nike released by the San Francisco Giants. Pumped up on the T V broadcast by John Miller and Mike Kruk. Oh, great company men If you haven't seen the picture of John Miller and Mike Kruger, wearing the city connects sweatshirts and the hats Please check that out. Because It is quite something the orange creamsicle color scheme that the Giants are using with these city connect uniforms. I don't know any other way to say it, but It's not attractive. It's not a good look and social media was a blaze. Lot of people very upset with the design that Nike came up with to honor the connection between the Giants in the city of San Francisco that's existed for well over 60 years. And look, I get it. And at first I thought, Okay, This is probably overblown. People are making too much of a big deal about these jerseys. How bad could they possibly be? They're just gonna wear them for a weekend or whatever. You'll forget 2030 years from now that they even wore these jerseys. You'll go back to some highlight, you'll see. Oh yeah, those awful city connect uniforms. They were in those for three days but buried in that press release. Was the note that the Giants to wear these on Tuesday nights at home for the rest of the season. Don't know if I've seen any other team using their city connect uniforms as much as the Giants plan to do during the second half. Look, I think Nike got it right with a few of them. The Chicago White Sox Southside uniforms are sick. Those jerseys are awesome. Those are a great connection between The city of Chicago on the South side. I thought that was really cool. The Serbian these uniforms that the D backs have with the gold look kind of faded, but those were really cool. The city connect uniforms that the Giants have They're worthy of wearing once or twice for the novelty of them, but every Tuesday for the rest of the season. The Giants host the Dodgers on July 27th City connect Giants host the D backs August 10th City connect the Mets August 17th City connect But the final week of the regular season 28th of September they'll be in their city connect jerseys. I I mean, some of the social media commentary was pretty funny, too. I when there was the shop that Nike put out of, like Brandon Crawford, Mauricio Dubon, Buster Posey, Ellis, Anakin, all in the city connect jerseys together. People were saying it looked like half the Giants team had died and gone to heaven. And that's exactly what it look like. I mean, That was tough. That was tough to see. And like I said, I don't think I hate these jerseys as much as everyone else. I love the golden Gate patch on the side. I think that it is nice when you work in an alternate uniform once or twice a season. Few weeks ago on Juneteenth when the Giants war Tribute to the Negro leagues. Those uniforms were awesome. That was exactly what you want. In an alternate jersey, where at once. Great. Honor some history. You are an actual connection with the city of San Francisco that existed 75 years ago. I love that. I would have been totally fine seeing these golden Gate bridge and fog jerseys. Once twice, maybe a whole weekend series like a peacock. Series like they had on T V. We can put up with that. But every Tuesday for the rest of the season come on. Kevin Gausman Giants starter was asked what he thought of the city connect jerseys. After his start on Monday, and he had a pretty good idea. Let's hear it. Yeah, I think it's about 22 weeks ago. Um Yeah. You know, they're super cool. Super unique. Um, you know, I was joking. I think they probably could have made him a little bit more, uh, like loud, You know, I think the fog is a little I think there's just so much more that goes into the city and in the fog, But you know, that's just my personal opinion. I think they should address this up like prisoners at Alcatraz or something like I thought that would have been great. But I don't make those decisions. So you know, but it will be sweet. You know, I think the fans are really like, um like having the orange the go the golden Gate on the sleeve like super cool, and, uh, I think the fans will enjoy seeing Well. Hire Kevin Gausman, Nike hire Kevin Gausman. The fans aren't going to like him. We've already heard that much from the text line 415, pointing out the orange color used on the jerseys of the international orange of the Golden Gate Bridge. Sure, that was Nike's intention. Does that look like the international orange from the Golden Gate Bridge? Sure didn't to me. No. So the city connect jerseys will be a hot topic of conversation around San Francisco this weekend, and then I figured they'd fade. It appears that every Tuesday for the rest of the year It will still be a hot topic. Lot of Giants talk coming up. We're going to keep things focused on the team on what this club needs to do before the All Star break and what we could see later on in July. Some of the concerns have cropped up for me after being down in Phoenix, watching this team closely against the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend, Carrie Crowley sitting in for Adam Copeland, you're listening to the leadoff spot can be RD sports leader. Four chunks of audio that really get you going. I have a gift and I am trying to not be selfish about it, but to use it. On K NPR 145 Inch 68 the sports leader. All right, this first one. We didn't get this to you yesterday. This was actually after I believe the first game. And, um Mauricio de Bond about locker. We talked about the chemistry in the locker room. This is, uh what Mauricio Dubon says makes the clubhouse students a locker room, the clubhouse so good for the Giants. It's been fun has been really fun. Especially because we've got great people, guys. Um, uh, I'm sorry, but we don't have any freak. So that's the good pick up later. We've been we've been having guys that now hopefully charge And all the guys moment comes. I get pink hair dye for Doug are for somebody else. Get it out. I teach it. Hey, come on. That can't bring it in like we got Really great group of guys and incorporate China. That really is the key to any positive work environment, No pricks. It's what I always say That could be Mario as marketing Bearing a welcome home. They're doing all that. Resilient. Uh, we don't have any pricks. Well, we got a dick. I'm going that way. I think you just came up with the Giants 2021 marketing slogan. No pricks, but a dick. So what do you the actual Definition of a prick. Now I have to look at it. I could practice me. Sure I could prick my finger. I mean, it's a multi, You know, multi definition word, though, right? That is true. Yeah. What does he mean by what is the actual the one that maraschino Dubon his prick Ege usage. What does that actually mean? Bad guy. It refers to a despicable individual offensive, someone who is offensive. It's so much better than Mauricio said, Prick. Could you imagine? We don't have any despicable individuals. You're amongst us. He said. Jerk it wouldn't have near. As you know, we have any jerk sign. Whatever. So can we not say that? Did I get trapped at? Hola? Drive me for using? I don't even say the word. Do bonded. I know it's about it's It's in the bad word that you use it if we if we use didn't if we Yeah, you think polar polar endorses pricks if we if we used it in the, um Context of, um In Oregon. That would be that wouldn't be a guy. I pricked my prick. There wouldn't be good. No, they Yeah. Did I just get drafted? They might have gotten drive for that one. But I'm trying But if you say they'll ask, he's giving me a bunch of things to say, a spiteful or contemptible man off, you know, it's Yeah, it's vulgar. So yeah, that's it. But the male organ is that is that that's that You can't you can't use it in that context, but appear slightly with a sharp point or to put yourself you could use it. That's not a problem. I don't want to prick your prick that is really quickly. Let's secret Compare. Let's see. Can I use it in that context? No. Let's see, Uh Mm uh, to feel the caboose pistol, Janet, I'm just I'm looking at it to feel discomfort as you're looking at What you're looking at your pricked the dictionary definition of pretty good. Uh, she felt the prick is the Thorn jabbed her foot. He felt the prick of a needle. You wouldn't want to be called as she Never mind what? She feel it barefoot. What is this? Maria Webster. I'm just gonna. Yeah. Should go Urban dictionary. Sure. Yeah. No, no, I'm going to go on the urban. Do not go on Urban Dixon. I'm gonna go urban friction. Eri, go do That? Yeah, This happened yesterday. Amongst all the chaos of the game. Dave Fleming had to say. Goodbye. Here is videos understand? Realizing that he's gotta go call the Padres and Dodgers at home nationally. Well, he's doing the extra innings of the Angels and the Giants. Here's how it went. Interest of full disclosure here. We do have a very unusual situation and and most of, you know, we're playing a little shorthanded these days. "A way to blend the two in trying to do with the numbers tell you to do but also trying to take into consideration. There's a human element to this game that you've got to take care of, as well did is that a tough thing for people that like the numbers to try to figure out or people that love the just the human element? Try to incorporate the numbers because they feel like they're losing some control. It just feels like the best managers are going to figure out a way to use both of those. I think you have to use bulk and in in this game, and I think one of the things that has been really helpful for me. Continue to be helpful for me is I remember how hard it is how hard the game in how hard it is to get ready for a big pinch should have bat. Um, and that it's not always the same. Like some days, your body feels great. And you get down there in the cage and You're preparing for the big moment and you, you get lathered up quick and other days maybe your little locked up. Your body is not moving as well. And, um, remembering little things like that when I send Slater or or Vossler or any of our options off off the bench up to the plate and then from, you know, starting players perspective, remembering how hard it is to go over eight. And and the back and sometimes spill over and into the next game, considering that when we're making lineup decisions and vice versa. Sometimes a guy just feels really hit Irish at the plate. And maybe his numbers don't suggest that he should be in the lineup. It just look, none of these things should make the final decision. They should just always factor in do like how we interact with players. And and they should always factoring into the game strategy decisions as well, from my perspective. Yeah. You mentioned you mentioned Vossler and you mentioned Slater and I mean, you could go on and on and I wonder how important it is because I always love teams that use all their players, and it's becoming more commonplace now, But in basketball, it's always nice. If the 10th 11th guy, you know you get a chance to play. You might not play that game. But you're probably not going to sit for two weeks in a row without without playing, and I just think everyone buys in because even if you just contributing a little bit, you feel like you're contributing. And if you're contributing, you just feel like that much more invested. In the team. How important is that? For You guys to like, Make sure guys are continually getting playing time. Whether it be I mean, it's not little league. You're not gonna give him a Here's your two winnings. Uh, but But to get him invested and get these guys keep them going to keep them mentally stimulated as well. A couple of games back. We were in D. C and we got cross out of the game. Is it in D? C. I think it was in D. C. It may have been more recently than that, whenever it was an opportunity to get cry out of the game and gets later in it back. Talking to both guys cry. Want to want to give you that the bat off Because you've been grinding and playing so much, and I talked to Slater about it that I want to give you this a bad because we don't have any left handed starters coming up. And you haven't gotten that many reps. And and I think both players understood it very well. And if you're right, this is not about like getting everybody there. They're playing time. It's more about making sure that everybody continues to feel part of a team A and B. They don't get rusty because we will go. You know 678 games in a row without seeing a left handed pitcher, So some of these guys have to get their reps. Somehow. It's great that they come off the bench and they bang regularly, so they don't feel So out of place when they get back in the batter's box, But, um, I especially for like Mauricio, Dubon and and often Slater of late. It's great that they've gotten at bats off the bench. Gabe Kapler joining us on the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooks show pitching at the timely hitting the power that that's been the kind of the dual spear tips for you guys getting the job done, but your defense doesn't get as much recognition but as far as the three of us are concerned. The defense is just as important as those other two disciplines. Obviously, the players are getting it done as you mentioned credit to them. When Longoria's in you've got a gold Glover there an all timer it's short. Plus defender at first Buster doing his job. You got outfielders that can play all outfield spots. Basically, they're all center fielders were curious about the positioning because that sure seems to be a part of the success and mud tracking on that, where those very good defenders are seeming seemingly in the right place at the right time due to The information that's given to them. No. I think you're tracking on that. Very well. Um and and again. I never want. You know this to be about like coaching and positioning and and the way you know the way we're seeing this because to be honest with you Brandon Crawford didn't need any positioning to be a Gold Glove shortstop before we all got here and I played with. I played with Evan Longoria and in Tampa, and he was elite then so, um, I will say this. I think I Correa has done a nice job of getting our guys in the right place in the infield and Antoine Richardson, Dallas, Anakin. I've done a nice job in the outfield, putting our outfitters in a good spot. You know that those might talking in place plays that he, you know, pulling back home runs. Those are all tough right there. Just him being a good athlete out there and, you know, kind of Duggar flying around the outfield. That's just him being, you know, having a little elite sprint speed, then a guy like Donovan Solano, Um, who is really starting to come around and and look really good going to his right. Making good, strong throws to first base with good, Carrie. That wasn't there when he first came off the area, and we still kinda feeling his way through it, and and look you you went through some struggles over there. But since I would say I don't know. Maybe right Before this road trip, he started to look really good together. I feel good about where he is, and to your point about Brandon Belt and look, there's a lot of guys to mention a lot of credit to go around from a defensive standpoint. Adults stabilizes everything because you know, his footwork around the bag is second to none. He makes everybody throws look good with that big, wide ranging target. And, um I appreciate the acknowledgement of the defense because we were not good on the last year. I'm sure you guys remember that. But that was A point of emphasis, and we were going to work really hard on him. Guys have stepped up. A couple of those outfielders I want to ask you about. I mean, what an incredible year it's been for Duggar. Um, I know. I know The numbers don't look good. But I think talk man has given this team just an incredible shot in the arm. And then love that yet and then Yeahs came out this week and said that you know that after his home run after his Grand Slam gave that that he had been working pregame with Danny Ecker quite a bit on some on some things. Um, talking. You gotta outfield crunch coming up. You've got a ton outfielders. We got eight or nine outfielders at all Big League caliber guys. Um, but talk about those three guys and what they've given you so far. Yeah, I'm glad you actually brought up talking in in his contributions to our major league law because it is easy to look at the batting average and kind of roll your eyes and I understand why that happens. I don't see it that way at all. See good deep at at bats, where he's fouling off pitches and look, he's he's run into some balls that have just landed in outfielder's gloves with with good defensive positioning, you have a huge grand slam for us. In in Texas. He's been an excellent defender and an excellent base runner and a really good teammate for us. So, um all of those things should be celebrated. You mentioned dug round thing. Anybody expected him to They kind of flawed the way he slugged I think everybody knows he can run around the outfield and everybody knows that He's got elite speed, but I think anybody fully recognize the powered up to the opposite field..

"It's an accomplishment in itself, and you've seen what Crawford's been able to do. It's just awesome. Be able to do it with them. So I think we just have a lot of fun out here. I like Brandon Belt, Man be school He is And we had them, uh, going back to right before the pandemic hit. We did the Fan fest with him. It was Buster. It was brand that it was a young doobie. Mauricio Dubon, Uh and he's just so He's just a delightful guy. You know, people get back and forth in the belt wars on the guy, so just You know, last night we had to take a commercial right after the game ended. It's called a turn break. And it's just based on how much how many commercials we got in before and a lot of it as if there's a bottom of the ninth or not. But what that means is we kept writing about waiting. You know, two or three minutes to do the interview and we were chanting before we get on the air. And he's just an affable guy. A lot of people would be. Let's get this going on. Let's go. I want to take a shower and move on. And we asked him about the over 16 7 strikeouts and all that, and they fed his swing a little bit both of his doubles last night. We're on low pitches, and you know there's the Kelly Seal is above the belt and even higher Fastball. But he did pass. Will Clark So the top Five now are very bonds $381 Willie Mays, 376 Stretch Willie McCovey 308 Buster to 76 then bell 2 50. Will Clark finished with 2 49 Jeff Kent with 2 47. So they were all on top of each other. Brandon Crawford with 2 43. So here's the thing. We'll finish with more doubles of the Brandon's And I say which Brandon has more home runs career, John. Which one would you pick? Mm. By the way, Crawford's going and Brandon gets her. Brandon and Bell gets heard of it. So I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go Crawford Crawford. It's tight. Brandon Belt has 146 career home runs. And Brandon Crawford as 121. Oh, career zone runs so belt Scott, but he's a first baseman ever. You know you're by a poll. Here's another one, and whenever I introduced red Shadow respect for Ridge I always introduce him as the And I know a lot of people have written things since crop past Travis Jackson. But still, I think, Richard Aurelia Is the greatest offensive shortstop. In the history of the San Francisco Giants. Maybe the whole franchise would you can see that craw. But here's the thing. So the one caveat is rich. His big year was 2000 and one He had 37 home runs that year. Cross on pace to get them. After 58 games when Richie had, uh it is 37. He only had 10 home runs. Cross got 15. And when you extrapolated out Cross on face to hit just a smidge under 3rd and 38 37 somewhere in there, so it can Crawford break riches record and hit thirties, eight home runs this year. Kick on that 38 is a ton and I just like I love across doing and I felt like he came to the plate for the first time, and he had still the 14 home runs and 41 RBs and I keep thinking of myself. He's sitting like the low to fifties and I'm thinking to myself well, he's going to start hitting the wall. He's just started. It's not realistic. I mean, Last night. He hits the bomb. He has good at bats. He just He looks good and hopefully the same thing that they're applying to Buster. Maybe not, too is larger than extent because catching is more demanding was still short, substance demanding position. They just got to keep them fresh. You know. So you're saying he will not hit 37 30 can't see it. Well, he hit 30. I'm gonna you know what is he? That's a great question, because how long has it been since 30 right, Barnes. So the last, uh last San Francisco giant to have a 30 Homer year was bonds. In 2000 and four In fact, bonds as the most home runs since 2000 and 17 to 28 Homer year, Hunter Pence in 2013 to 27. Pablo Aubrey Huff at a 26 1 year. Pablo at a 25. They have not had a 30 home run season from anybody on their roster since 2000 and four So 1 30 Homer YEAR easing Will it be multiple 30 Homer years, George contest predicted three. Both Brandon's and Buster. Buster. Have a 30 homer year. I don't think so. We got to go back to our remember our poll. Yeah, we did the year start Who? Yeah, who was going to be picked to lead the team in home runs? I think I went Wilmer Flores. Oops. Sorry. I think I did something like that. Very well. Ver Sorry. I love the friends of your day. This it was It didn't pick belt and I didn't bit crossed. I sure as heck didn't. I don't think I picked Posey either. But I think you're right. We might have both done that. We might have most subject. Longoria, we pick we pick. I think I may have picked out in Longoria because I remember. Um, didn't Flores Liederman home runs last year with 12? That's why I picked 12 ever was. Yeah, I think both of you and I picked him. No, I don't think we did. I think we I'm not even sure he made our Polish big poll..

"Johnny Cueto's bodies looking good, and he looks sharp yesterday as I mentioned seven innings, pitched five hits, just wondered, Run, five strikeouts and 97 pitches. He got a huge ovation coming off the mound yesterday. Everybody knew it was a good giants crowd yesterday. That kind of knew what was going on. They knew it was gonna be the end of his days in my top men and in a pinch hitting for him. In the bottom half of that evening. By the way, Shut up My talk limb may be the most beloved 1 90 hitter in baseball history. It's crazy. It's talking to the Waterboy about this last week that because he came over from the Yankees and Yankee fans just love this guy. Apparently, Yankee fans were not just bummed when he got traded over but have been continuously bummed that he hasn't been in the lineup or has not remained in the organization because of all the injuries they've had this year. People there, miss him, and I was texting my buddy Paul yesterday he was saying, Dude, I've never loved the guy. Who could not hit well as much as I love my talk, man. He does everything else I don't know if perfectly is the right word or terminology here, but hey, certainly helps the club and you can tell. I hate going to the staff because I never know how How would you figure it out or exactly what it means? But evidently, the good players have good ones on that's war wins above replacement. My talk with 1 95 right now he is a positive war. Right now. He's good for like, half a win. My top man is and so I don't have anyone. 90 hitters have a positive war. But for a guy who's playing excellent defense and left the guy who runs the bases pretty well. He's a great late inning defensive replacement again. He's out there. Just trying to draw a walk. You said Wait. 15 walks to 30 strikeouts, which not a terrible ratio right now. I think he has Actually under 30, So his walk numbers are not bad at all. Anyway. I was just thinking about him coming in for Johnny Cueto yesterday, but, ah, good. Good Giants fan presents. I thought yesterday and a great ovation. Johnny Cueto even acknowledge the crowd. Sometimes you get guys you just won't even look up or acknowledge, especially this early in the season, but one third of the way through the year. Was all bummed out. I was pissed on Friday throughout the idea that maybe they lose all four of these games after what we saw against the Dodgers last weekend in the fact that there are a half game up on the Padres, and it's just a half you sort of go out. Okay. The Padres were coming there. Red hot. Here They are, Um You know, the Giants played them pretty well, and they're not going to see him for a long time. We were looking Walter and I this morning, actually, at the schedule in September of what the Giants get the Padres for like 10 of their last like 17, or 20 games to wrap up the season, So if they're in a wild card hunt, or it's just tight as it is right now, at the top of the division, the National League West, maybe the division to pay attention to at the end of the year. Dodgers are getting healthy. They had a big game last night against the Cardinals and the Giants are gonna get one more today against the Angels wrap up this Series off day Arrgh Wednesday off day and then a four game said against the Cubs, which starts Thursday. One of their elements yesterday's game There was a lot of fun, not just Mauricio Dubon hitting yet another home run, by the way. How much did you love the home run off a Clayton Kershaw for do Bond and then putting the sword in the chief. Did you see that on Social media afterwards, Trevor Bauer got sour about it and said all you're you're doing it to the wrong picture. He's like guys right here, covering their eyes to the wrong picture. And remember, he Trevor Bauer was doing the I clothing to the Padres and then to tease hits the home run and then covers his eyes. He's rounding the bases and powers like Yeah, well, you didn't do that against me. Apparently, same thing with Du Bon Dieu. Bon hits the Khobar Enough. Kershaw Does the sword in the sheath and then Chuck Barris again? Yeah. You write her doing it against the wrong guy. My Trevor say he's an idiot. You appreciate you, Walter. Get over it, man. You didn't hear the Giants that it down there just took three or four, and that's the way it goes. So, uh, I've lost my train of thought here where I was going with the The weekend of all bottom line is I did not think they were gonna take three or four from the Dodgers. They played great baseball to wrap up that syriza Kevin Gausman kind of a scary moment on Sunday where, hey leaves the ball game and there was some speculation. Maybe he had some arm problems and had some Uncomfortable, itty, I guess there and maybe he might miss the start. They didn't m r I he said after the game. Yeah, I'm feeling pretty good. And I have not Mr Start yet. I don't anticipate missing another start or missing a start. At this point. He's been absolutely nails. What's he 16 hours? Something right now? Five and right now with an E R a under 1.5, So he's been insane. So hey was fantastic on Sunday. Looks like he's gonna be all right to go in his next start. Actually, The other guy who gets banged up yesterday is Evan Longoria leaves the game with with some tightness in his side after hitting the home run, so giants get the big lead. They put into bond a third time to bond hits the home run so poor The good stuff, But anyway fun baseball this weekend. The one other element I was going to get to in the game yesterday. That was my final thought on. This was show him Tony getting that bad, I guess. Last week, Larry Krueger was upset that after missing his Bart train or getting stuck on Bart on his way out to the Coliseum. He wasn't in a pitch in this serious. He was not lined up really to pitch in this series anyway, just based on the number of days in between starts he takes to rest. It's usually about once a week, and they weren't gonna use them after throwing him late last week early this week. That when they were gonna use them, I mean, anyway, yesterday he comes up in the perfect situation for the Giants fans to see show him Tony at the at the ball game yesterday, 19. He comes up one of the angels around 6 to 1 at the time run around for was around first, and nobody was on leadoff hitter grounded out..

"Welcome back to pre game Diamond notes Larry Krueger with us We'll get you ready for the Giants and the Pirates. The first of the eight game road trip giants so far, really strong at home, 14 and four on Lee, eight and 10 on the road, And as I just said, eight straight on the road starting tonight in Pittsburgh. Let's go places now with the Toyota out of town scoreboard. And we already have five finals in the big leagues. The Blue Jays beat the Braves in Atlanta. 84 was the final there. The Nationals top the Phillies in D. C. 5 to 1. The Tigers with a 43 win over the Kansas City Royals at Comerica and Detroit Cardinals are playing good baseball. They shut out the Brewers in Milwaukee at Miller Park. To nothing, Cardinals. And how about the Chicago White Sox? The White Sox playing some outstanding ball, They leave the major leagues and runs per game. They rank second in runs allowed per game. So the White Sox in some ways might be with the most impressive team thus far, and they get another win today, 4 to 2 over the Minnesota Twins now elsewhere beside the giant game tonight, the Yankees were in Tampa against the raised the A's and Red Sox go at Fenway Park. That should be an interesting game as well. Because that is Sean. Man I against Skerritt. Richards in the A's are playing really good baseball out on the road. Rangers Astros The Battle of Texas in Houston and the Reds will take on the Rockies in Denver Marlins in the desert. Against the Diamondbacks and the Indians up in the Pacific northwest against the Seattle Mariners, Mariners, 18 and 19 Indians roll in at 20 and 14. Well, there was one transaction. We should tell you about today, as well as the Giants put Jose Alvarez on the 10 Day injured list. And recalled Lamont Wade Jr and Wade is in the lineup tonight, hitting seventh for the Giants. Now interesting numbers for Will Crow. The Giants have never seen him before. He's a he's a right handed pitcher. 26 years of age played it. South Carolina second round pick by the Nationals in 2017. And he's got the reverse splits usually right easier. Tougher on lefty or, you know, writers could be tougher on righties and lefties could be tough on lefties. Righties off Will crow or hitting 2 94 lefties are only hitting. Oh, 95. It's limited amount of innings, but that one will be will be bear watching tonight in the in this matchup Now the giant lineup, of course, is out. And this is how it goes. It goes talk hman. So they go Lefty Lefty to start talking then. Yes, then Posey. In the three hole hitting 3 85 by the way belt in the four spot, then Longoria Wilmer Flores will not wait, hitting seventh and Mauricio Dubon eighth in front of disco. Funny so Should be interesting Disco Fine. He's got great numbers this year. He's got horrendous numbers against the red against the Pirates. What will rule the day we find out next? That does it for pregame diamond out? Screw can keep on baseball is next..

"He looked pretty good this weekend, pitching in the rain and get that win over the Marlins. But right now, I think that is the biggest gaping hole for the Giants. Right now, In the middle of this, uh, pretty fantastic start. I think a better start than that. All of us anticipated to this point, so The giant's right now still sitting atop Piano West tied with the Dodgers. It's another funky stuff from yesterday about that play with Mauricio Dubon just barreling over Ron Wotus and Boy that's a play that just can't happen. Those mistakes that you can make in April you can't make those mistakes When you get to the back. End of summer, the bond still a very young play, I mean, Young for for major league experience. He's not a super young guy in general. I think he's a 26 27 year old are coming up on that now a Zafar as being like not having tons of major league experience. He's not a top top prospect. But the Giants like Capital was not furious about it after the game, But you can't make a final out at home plate like that. I will say this. He probably that was the worst base running in the history of the game. You don't Ruben was there on me, huh? You know, it's so funny is Dave since that out. I was texting with my mama Suzy last night when the game went into extra innings, because I was like, dude, can we just win this in the ninth? And the Giants just roll this up in the ninth. I don't want to go to extras. I don't wanna put that runner on second. Do this whole stupid bit where we protect it. It's so it's so fabricated. To me. It is so frustrating to watch a run a run out to second day. So then they put up three runs. And you're like, man. What would what would Gregory scientists have been able to do if there's no run around there on second, you know, I mean, and I know we get knocked around and he was up with his pitches and gives it back to back home runs. I get it. He didn't have this stuff. He's a young guy. He's throwing his heart as he can. He's hanging sliders. I get it there. Tattoo in baseball's. He didn't lose it because there was a guy on second. I just cannot stand this rule anyway. My mama Susie hits me last night as they go to extra innings, and she e. Haven't gotten her permission to read this on here, but I'm going to read it on there anyway, she says. I'll take 1/10 inning where lions come onto the field and the team with the fewest players mauled to death is declared the winner over this Bs, and I was like mob down with that to forget this runner on second nonsense that we went off into a into a sort of a digression about John Miller. Calling the Tigers on the field of the license on the field mauling players, and that is the worst base mauling in the history of the game. You gotta day five second brings now.
