"Promo code Atlas. You have also in action this weekend, the welterweight prospect and one of the one of the two or three fighters keeping golden boy alive Virgil Ortiz gets the 9th round stoppage over Michael mckinson, you know, entertaining fight both undefeated guys coming in looking to prove something. I think the main takeaway for me at least when I watch Virgil Ortiz who I love, I think he's got all the potential in the world. I don't see based on that performance. I can't see him seriously challenging the likes of a bud Crawford or even someone like a boots Ennis. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm dying to hear your take on this 'cause I really like Virgil Ortiz, but if this guy McKinsey had any punch in power, I think he could have hit him a few times and done some damage, but like I say Virgil eventually warmed down, laid some beautiful uppercuts and body work on him eventually 9th round. I think the corner stopped it in the 9th, after having it after having McKinsey down in the 8th. How'd you like it and would you think about Ortiz's performance? Do you think he's ready for that next level? I like goat cheese. The only 24 years old. I like them a lot. I like them we have to fight the way dogs himself the way he talks. He saw articulates a gentleman. He's humble. I like the way he fights. I like the way he's developing. That's the key word to your point, developing. Let him continue developing. He's young, and he's let him keep growing. Let him keep getting better. Keep him away from Crawford. Keep him away from those guys you just mentioned. There's no need to go there right now. And listen, it's no knock on them. Those are special guys you just mentioned. You know, we still got to find out about boots and as he still has to be tested at that next level, but he looks pretty damn good. But qualified doesn't have to be tested. We know what he is, and we know what spencers. So keep them away from those guys. And again, it's no knock on them. Those guys are special. Those guys are fine. That would be like back in the 80s saying, keep someone away from Sugar Ray Leonard or Tommy urns while Roberto Duran. No, not condom. Those guys are special. Keep them away. They're not ready yet. And today I'll say this about our tea is just for those who may not know. He's 19 and O with 19 knockouts, but more importantly, his progressing nicely in terms of the step ups, he beat Maurice, he stopped Maurice hooker, then he stopped calva lacus, the mean machine, I believe they call him, and now he's got Michael McKinsey who was undefeated when he beat no, that's not me mission cave lakis was 21 and 21 zero and one when he stopped them. So he seems to be progressing nicely, but like you said, he's still young and you probably need some more seasoning before he gets to that top level. Although he's such a nice kid in such a tough guy, I'm sure if they offer him the fight he'd jump right in there, but from a promoter standpoint, you may want him to have a little more seasonal listen. As you have, there's no way that the Hoya is jumping into that. First of all, he's not really completely stupid especially when he's sober. But you know, the la Jolla only adds him and Ryan Garcia rally. I mean, without them, he's out of business basically. So there's no way. There's no way he's feeding them to the lions. Let's leave it at that. So that ain't happening. Now as far as this fight, Mackenzie, you know, he had no power exists outpour, which could be tricky. And it was very gutsy. No doubt about that. But you know, he was a cutie. He was a slick cutie with no power, and but the steady pressure body work of Ortiz finally broke them. Broke them down, Mackenzie tried to try to fight with them, which I thought was kind of not the smartest thing to do with a guy who's just better in that area and stronger in that area. But he did try to fight with Ortiz, but Ortiz was too strong. That he tried to use his legs and Ortiz did the right thing. Would you want to see in a small fighter devolving phyto fugit champion maybe? Ortiz took the air out of his tires with the bodywork. At the end of the day, it was a workman like job by Otis getting it all done. And as I said, you know, give him away from give him away from those monsters right now, you know? Like they have that thing on the pack of cigarettes. Where it says smoke and these could be dangerous to your health. The Surgeon General says to stay away from cigarettes. They can be dangerous to you. Right now, I'm not the Surgeon General. But teddy Atlas and Ken write out on the fight are giving you a little bit of advice you probably already know because you have smart people which stay away from those guys. Don't let your eagle get involved. Stay away from those guys. Give yourself more time to develop. Great advice. And we'll just keep rocking through these because we've got a ton of stuff to coverage for relatively quiet weekend. There were some notable action in terms of at least in terms of the UFC and some of the developments going on in boxing. But with that being said, let's talk about next week. Tia femo Lopez back in action after suffering the loss to judge Cambodia's lost all his belts had to be a big blow for Tia fema very proud guy. They loved being the unified champ. They took it from Vasily le machinko and they didn't miss a PR opportunity to get pictures taken with all those belts. And hey, they earned them. They deserved it, but the point is suffering a loss when you're riding high like that, especially when you've just won all the belts. A lot of people argue, like, to be the champ, you really have to defend the title once, or you know, to kind of solidify your position, at least. And tough loss for Tia fema, especially then, you know, George loses all the belts to Devin Haney is next time out. Nevertheless, we've got Tia fema back in. He's in with Pedro campa, a guy honestly I didn't know him too much about his 34 and one. He's got 23 knockouts, but the one thing that sticks out to me and he's got to draw. The one thing that sticks out to me, teddy is look, there's no problem with fighting in Mexico. They have some scraps down there as everyone knows, but this guy is in 34 fights. He's had one fight in the U.S. and you know it's hard to read into someone's record when all the fights are in one particular foreign country. You know, reporting of the results, et cetera, et cetera, aren't always completely accurate. Nevertheless, looks to be a bounce back fight for Tia fema. I'd be surprised if they'd even use a guy like camper as aspiring partner, had they won that fight against Cambodia. But nevertheless, it's on Saturday night. What are you looking for in this one? I'll go down to road a little more you did a good job going down there. I'll go down like I used to go down the road when I was corner fights and I wanted to give the fans every bit of information they could get to to handicap the fight before I even quoted and to have an idea of what was going to happen as you said he's 34 we're talking about camper Pedro campa. He 34 one and one 30 Pedro campus 30 years old. Yeah, 34 one and one. Yeah, then the I didn't say he's 34 years old. He's 30 four. Oh, sorry. You said 34. I'm sorry. I thought you said his age. Sorry. You're right. 34 one, 30 year old guy. Can you hear good? You all right, those things work. All right. 34 one O one. He's been knocked out in his one and only loss. And he was knocked out in that one loss to fighter who had a record at the time of 11 wins 8 losses and one draw. So that tells a little bit of the story right there. That's a great Carlos Jimenez. Yeah, now listen, it doesn't mean that a guy with a bad record can't be a steady, good solid guy, of course that doesn't mean that it doesn't. Because a lot of times they say, oh, they're experienced guys that just woman managed well and they fought everybody in their hometown. They got some bad decisions, whatever. But it's the right guy. You're on the right track. We're on the right track.

"All right, finally, on the undercard of this show is what I think is going to be the best fight of the show. 440 pound champion going up against Blair, the flair cobbs in a welterweight fight, Sergio. This is exactly what an undercard fight should look like. You've got a crossroads fight between two guys over the age of 30 who are looking to get back in contention. Both these guys coming off knockout losses for hooker, it was a year plus ago against Virgil Ortiz for Blair cobbs, more recently, against Alexis Rocha, the winner will get right back into the welterweight picture for a big fight. The loser probably done as a high level fighter or at least a contender in the 147 pound division. What do you think of this fight? No, not probably. They are. They are because they realize not only especially if they lose by another knockout. Yeah. There's phases in a fighter's career and they're in their 30s already. They already experience what it's like to fight a formidable opponent. It's not even championship level. Alexis Rocher wasn't a championship fighter yet, but he got, it was a hell of a fight, Blair cobbs, he put on a good show, there were the main event, but he came up short and got stopped by a guy that has been proven himself on the championship level either. So you already got stopped by someone that's not that was hooker, at least got stopped by champions. He has amateur pedigree. He's already picked up a strap, and he's only lost to really hard punches. Ramirez a beast, you know? So Virgil Ortiz, a future beast, and he's proved that on the championship level 'cause he's been former champions Ortiz has. So that's why I got a favorite Maurice hooker in this fight. The technique, the long jab, the 80 inch span in order to get past that. And then the body shots for a tall fighter. Very good body. Excellent body punching. Yeah, I just think it's gonna be too much for our flare. A Blair flair because cobbs has a bad, a bad thing about leaving this chin up. And it cost him with Rocha. You know, once the fight starts getting into the later rounds, his technique goes out the window and it's gonna catch him in this fight as well.

"Problem. We're going to see if he can carry that problematic style into the second half of the fight because he's going to do it for 6 rounds. I promise you, he will do it for 6 months. Once he gets out of that 6 round, that's when hell gets unleashed. And that's what we're going to see what he's made of, but he's just as tall, he's a muscular guy. He's a pretty big guy once you see him in person, and I think he's going to fit in nicely with Virgil's size wise. So I even go, I even go as far as to say he gets stopped very late or he might even make it across the finish line, but I just don't see him winning rounds. Yeah, I mean, survival, it might be a win for Michael McKenzie. Going being the first guy to go the distance with Virgil or tease might be a win here for Michael mcinnis because I don't know how he wins. Virgil is such a great pressure fighter. And you know, you look at his last couple of fights. He fought Maurice hooker, who's well-known for having an excellent jab. He fought a Velasquez, who has an excellent job. Virgil Ortiz threw better jabs than both of you. Yeah. And he knocked kavala's down twice with what looked like a jab. They were jabs to the gut too. Yeah, I mean, he was putting him down with Jeff. This guy's got blunt power all over the place. So I think for McKinsey, it's more about Kenny survive than Kenny win. I just don't, he can make it ugly. He can probably mix it up a little bit with Ortiz tie him up. But Ortiz fought this way against Brad Solomon. Another mover several years ago. It took him a little bit of time to get to Brad Solomon, but he eventually did and knocked him out. But McKinsey has more things in his favor, not just he does. He has the inactivity, you know, first time Virgil's been out of the ring this long. He has a new team that he has to build this new chemistry with. What do you make of this? Anyone with many role Liz or Robert Garcia or Freddie roads or any of these West Coast grape trainers? I never worry because they're just so great at what they do so they can mold Dan goosen's another one. It's up to Joe Biden. I'm sorry, Joe goose and rest in peace, Dan. No, it's up to the fighter of how fast he catches up. It's not the trainer. They're just gonna train the fighter exactly the same way they train their whole stable. It's up to the fighter to adapt and evolve. So it's not up to the trainer until the fighter. Yeah, I mean, I did find it curious that Virgil Ortiz undefeated 18 knockouts leaves Robert Garcia to go work with many robles. But, you know, it's his career in many robots is a very good trainer himself. The sidelight of this Sergio is that in the building, on Saturday night, will be Terrence Crawford. He's there in support of Maurice hooker, his stable mate, Crawford's here in the hotel right now in Texas.

"There's a limit. There's a limit, man. These are natural one 68 and one 75 pounders. This is a 5 foot 8. Stocky explosive, great Mexican, but there's limits, man. There's limits. It would have better be of Smith would be, that's the limit. And that's a tough fight. And look, I'd rather, I'd rather him face go to Cruiserweight and face elanga junior, macabre than a Joe Smith junior or a better be of type winner because those are some legitimate one 75 pound monsters and it only takes one punch and both of them can crack. Both of them are the two of the biggest punchers in boxing. They don't need to hit you cleanly. They can hit you with half of this. And they're going to rock you like you've never been rocked before. That's the scary part about going up in weight that it only takes half a punch. They don't have to hit you clean. The idea that Canelo was ducking anybody is absurd. Just utterly absurd. And these guys can prove that they rubbish. They are worthy of the opportunity by finding each other simple as that. All right, let's talk about this weekend. On Friday, José Ramírez returns his last fight was in May of 2021 against Josh Taylor lost a close decision in a battle for the undisputed 140 pound championship on Friday. He returns, he's in Fresno, his home area, and he takes on a tough opponent in Jose pedraza a couple things here, Sergio. I was surprised that Ramirez stayed at one 40. Like he's kind of a big guy for a 140 pounds, sturdy stocky. I got a stocky, but well built for that weight. He stays at one 40 because he wants to get his titles back. And he's coming back against pedraza, who is not, this is not a give me fight. Jose pedraza is want to think three, four fights in a row since his loss to Jose zapata. He has been in with vasili lomachenko. He lost by knockout to javonte Davis, but he's faced tough competition. I'm a little concerned about Ramirez in this fight. Ramirez is surprisingly a big guy when he fought Maurice hooker and I sized them up. He's 5 foot ten. You know, and he's a big one 40 pounder. I think if he goes back down, he can pick up those straps again. He can be a force at one 40. One 47 can wait, there's still big money at one 40. Look at teal female Lopez. That would be a big fight. Huge fight if he can fight him. I mean, he can get a rematch with Taylor. I mean, that would be a big fight. But you don't think like Regis program, right? But you don't think that I'd love to see another fight with program. But I'll fight with progress. Teofimo, after he lost, was like, man, I shouldn't have stayed at one 35. Josh Taylor after he lost was kind of like, man, I probably shouldn't have stayed at one 40..

"So top rank did have pack and they don't know more. He left coto left and margarita left. I don't even know why. Would you say that you sound like you know boxing. Try to pick fighters this stood with him trying to pick fighters that retired with them. So your your argument makes some sense now. All fighters that left margarito gave top break everything and he's still got cut. The minister hit the fan. They associated themselves with them. Benitez talked to me. We read something. That's how you doing today man. I'm loving you. See some of those alleged reports men that tape. That's gonna that's gonna be making around five million for this fight in doubt it you know saints about buyers of we walk away with one point five. I win doubted. That shit man. Now see that just shows you right there. That takes a pound for pound king between one thirty one thirty one forty pounds you know and who the fuck really cares man about I mean why people keep screaming this josh tale the name like you say he fought in front of seven thousand people. More people should came. It was really that big fight. They would open up more top rank out a big bag. They would have made things happen. Don't discriminate ella. Because the belts. No don't know wanna see him lose. They wanna see. Josh taylor lose right they wanna see tank lose right so in there is tank is faking that he became a chance. When josh is the real chant yes so they say they san fight him. He's saying. I'm just i'm just doing me. Okay let's let's let's let's be real. How many of us. Who truly sold on jose. Ramirez know A few people were so definitely my man. Alexander was so and he definitely converted a few people with his. Win over maurice hooker..

"Britain uncle boxing. I think they're doing the i. It's not it sounds barbaric and definitely you know. There's a lot of juice on the faces of these guys at the end of the night. But it's a sport and that respect it takes it takes a set of grapefruit stick to get in. The ring is a little bit different male. When somebody's now. No no i would. I don't. I don't think i should be hitting anybody with with rattan i. I don't think i mean. I've seen the knuckles are exposed. He expressed their their wrists. Still basically man. It's no you fight in the gym. Okay streetfighting jim. Let's switch gears course today. Arkansas beat obama's going to defend his and a few minutes. I believe on espn. And he's his prohibitive favorite Is he the guy wants. Seventy five is either is he. The the main man number one guy at one seventy five In my opinion he is I know that we will who fights in. May i believe you know it can definitely Maybe beg to differ with me but be better be. I think is what better competitions. And he's just a beast man. I mean he's a little older to shame that he turned pro at a later at a later age So his clock is ticking. He's got really good coaches john sculley and And the rival guy forget his name Abner very well schooled in a vicious puncher in. He's to me. I think he's the monster at light heavyweight And i hope that they unify Later on the between him and people. And i don't think danes has anything i think is going to be walk through better be today. Looks like his shot. tend to win. Fight some other fights on today's card. Of course from reese hooker in very hooker one's junior welterweight stepping up to one forty seven. He went from a star at one forty and then losing at one fight to be an a minus. Five fifty underdog. I yeah no take it back to favorites minus eleven hundred. He's plus five twenty five so the bottom line is he went from a stud to an underdog a prohibitive underdog year is version. T's really the guy who wants to come back in first fight against well new way classroom hooker. The last time he was in the public spotlight he for another chain rubber garcia fighter. Jose ramirez and he was stopped in a barn burner five. He's got the bad exchange and a ramirez was able to stop them and one of the better of the year. Maurice hookers have very good fighter. He's things have the height advantage in this fight. Always but he's fighting but he's fighting a bigger naturally bigger guy impaired ulysses and the one thing. That kind of makes me like what's going on here. He had to strip down to make weight and the second attempt. So i don't know how long that physique and hold one forty seven. Actually the second time this happened him. I believe last year. He had issue with the weight. So i i believe that his best days maybe at one before i like hooker. I think he's a good fighter. But i think it should be to to have his way probably somewhere in the middle of six seventh around. I think coke is going to be able to hang in there and another thing. That's pretty intriguing. They both are in great fight. Camps one is trained when trains We tense crawford and jamal herring and those guys and rob. Has jim fuller killer. So that's that's something. That's pretty intriguing. And i'm looking forward to Jose ramirez in josh. Taylor gonna do it one hundred and forty pounds. That looks like on may twenty. Second josh taylor. Is this a chance for him to like. Make the entire world look at him. Hey he surprised the heck out of me when he We just pro grazed and to win that That was as a boxing tournament that they had He's a real really good. Fighter throws a lot of punches Ramirez is very strong. I it's it's good stylistic should be lots of fun both guys are easy to hit but i think the punching power for marriage. Maybe too much taylor okay. The postman that fails to delivered letters. Doug mcgann you. Garcia is now talking about hundred and a hundred and fifty pounds. He was small at one forty seven. I think danny looking to just make money at this point in. And there's nothing wrong with it but i think eventually it should catch up to. I mean one. Fifty four star studded. But you got guys. That would probably stop before i was like eriksson. What's up with terry. What's up with terence crawford. Cut you off real quick. We'll kind of like a million half from rate. What's up with terence crawford haven't heard much There's been some rumblings bridge alert tease. I you know saying that he would fight carpet next And oscar waste that he would okay it afterwards You know. I don't know if he's just gonna play things out and he's going to be the latest fighter that leaves top rank and and maybe eventually we'd get the big fight that we anticipate of him in there will spens Project will fire you know and We hope that we communication by later on this year. But i don't think it's going to happen okay. So so arab loses both team in like in the same year quick. Yeah man something. Something's up you know. I mean you wanna spend the money. Bob doesn't want to spend any money flops. Doing your don king things vicarious somebody else money i don't want to get involved bottom line is soccer balmaceda loaded age yours and of course they loaded sebastian for me. "I'm not sure that they would. In fact her has been saying that they won't that they're not you know he wants ten million dollars for you know to fight haney or tank or ryan garcia whatever. I completely understand a ta lopez it's perspective in the sense that he took what could only be considered short money to fight the silly chanko and he went out there and as an underdog three to one underdog won the fight. Now it's time for him to be paid and he wants to be paid appropriately. Whether it's fighting devon haney devante davis ryan garcia whomever might be. He wants to be paid and he should want to be paid easily keys. The only lightweight out of all of them that has gone in there and proven that he is the elite guy division. He's the only one. Now you can say that loma are smaller fighter older fighter or whatever he was arguably the pound for pound best fighter in the world lopez took the fight believed in himself took again. What would be considered short. Money went in there and good more than he was supposed to do and now wants to be compensated properly. So i guess this all comes back to whether the fight can be made. I don't think so. Because i don't know that a tia. Fema lopez devon haney fight at this moment while it's a very attractive fight. I would love to see. It is going to generate the type of revenue particularly for stolen in this pandemic for it to be worthwhile for anyone to pay what they're going to want to pay because it's not just fema lopez is to want to be a lot of money. It's devon haney who is already being paid a lot of money to fight. Or york's kim boa now prado santiago and you know our of the live. He's already been paid a lot for fights that are nowhere near as risky as he will. Lopez so what is he going to want there. Enough money there from espn or disown or top rank or match room. All of them combined. Satisfy these two guys and i don't think that it is. I don't think that there is yet chris. The lightweight division as you well know is is hot right now right. We have these guys and there's all these ups that can be made in everyone's all excited about it and everything and none of them are going to happen anytime soon. On twenty twenty. One looks like it's going to be off of these guys fighting different people and by the end of this year. I think it's more likely than not tiffy has gone. I mean he's gonna move up and fight the winner of Taylor versus ramirez. Yeah i i don't believe that to your point. I've heard the same thing top top-ranked tiff over to zone. In one of those maurice hooker. Jose ramirez types of deals. It's not going to happen. I think. Eddie would happily send devon haney over..
