"We've got a few of our friends and partners that are college coaches involved in it. It's it's it's awesome to see how much it's grown originally originally started and then thinking even back to Which would the lessons you learn especially thinking about and try to inspire guys and that must be so hard especially from high school college. It's always a challenge. But especially at the g. league level where you have so much roster turnover. It must stay. Get especially challenging. What's been like now becoming the first head coach of the blackhawks and kind of how that ended up happening. Forty one in what you've taken from experience so far. Yeah so. I got really lucky. That the new orleans. Pelicans you know the new orleans. Pelicans bought the g. league team. In when i was there orlando had owned it. And then they moved their team to lakeland than the atlanta hawks owned it. Then move their team to atlanta new orleans. Got it in for me. Out very four towns coaching in jerusalem. And they were looking for an american international coach and when david griffin. I got the job. David thornton a little bit in recommended me to him in general and then they were looking for an american and international coach. They reach out to their international scout. Iran are bell. who's israelis living in israel. And he'd put together a list of coaches in. My name is also on the list. So that was kinda the second name and then i heard he was interested and we happen to have amari stoudamire. Who on our team and part owner and I'd coach tomorrow. That was my second year coaching him. And a maureen david griffin ward together in phoenix and so amari made a phone call Which was huge. Help me get the job. And my agent. Brian elvis in they. They did an excellent job. pushed in an interview with trades in line. And this really fortunate. You know it's what you learn as a coach and in general ride is you need someone to believe in you in whether it's the player whether it's who is a coach in your career for most players and people you need someone to believe in you and give you a chance in at thirty three was trying to be an intern in the nba. In and was like. I'll be an intern. Mba i don't care if i'm an intern. I'll out work every one. And i'll work my way up then right and no one would hire me except fred hoiberg fred. Hoiberg was only one who is willing to hire me and he couldn't get it approved. Because i was too old and too experience to be an intern and i go from more than willing to accept in an intern to getting offered the new orleans. Pelicans daily job. And i got really lucky. That david griffin in trajan langdon took a chance on me and believed in me. When you look at it. it's something that we almost. All of us need whether it's a player whether it's a coach right you need someone with in your career to take a chance on you in believe in you and for some people have had twenty four ride for some people. It happens at thirty four for some people happens. Forty four and for some people. Unfortunately it never happens. And it doesn't doesn't determine who they are as a coach or who hours of player right. It's not like when i signed contracts. Become the head coach. That i was a better coach. That day was the day before. The difference was david. Griffin trades in landon took a chance on me and they believed in me and i was super fortunate to get the job what you realize when you get the job..

"They're true right. Okay Spun. Take Davonte out of this then Roger Martinez or food is Maury. Who would you rather have? If you're Paul mcdonagh an Inter Miami Let's just say the amount of legal Alonzo I'd rather have food has Maury Lori. 'cause I've worked with him at Monterey and he was successful under me and he's consistent one thing you know is he will score goals if you create chances for for him. That's what he does at Monterey. That's what he's done his whole career. He's I think third all time leading scorer Monterrey in probably one of the greatest moments in their club's history. This is a guy I if you set him up. He scored in the club World Cup against Liverpool. He will score goals. He does not create anything. And I don't know that he's a guy that you can build your team around and beat the star. You know now off the field vocally all those things. Roger Martinez is a huge question. Mark but if a game is dead he can pick the ball up at midfield and create a goal out of nowhere and and I think he'll connect with the Colombian fan base in that area. So those two. I want Roger Martinez because I think he's awesome. He's it's fun. He's going to be a part of this league but food has more. He's a great player. You just need the other pieces around it. I don't think that that alone says like hey this is a team. That's ready to compete. Atlanta did yeah. We'll see Inter Miami sort of trying to figure it out on these now soon as Maureen David Silva. Yeah Yeah that that's goals golden echoes. How about this? How about Rodolfo Pizarro in the Fire Kalem? It's still going. I don't know if it's credible I don't know if it's real people talking about Adidas chipped in money and guess they did that with Bossi's Weinstein Monterey says they won't Twenty Mil. That's a lot of money being Emma's transfer record. No it'd be more than pity. I understand understand some of the criticism towards the fire and wanting to get. I heard a ton of it around the teacher Ito or slim my thing. Honestly I'm looking to judge Ashikaga by in time and by the totality. What's the word to take some of their moves some of that because because I don't think there's a quick fix there and so it's like okay? Yeah there's the one thing it's not just GonNa changing the brand isn't going to necessarily fix it or moving downtown isn't necessarily going to just fix it the dark signing one player although could help. She's not necessarily just going to fix it so I'm looking to see sort of the breadth of what they're able to do But yeah art would would would signing. We've talked about on the show. I like came as a player. He's not Niccolo Darrow. No one really probably. Yeah but if you're spending that if you're setting them less record transfer fee can you get closer than that or is Hamas Berridge. They'll look at me on them and I am along with Frankowski and cj all of that and total enough to be really good at least next year and none of them are guys who are approaching aging there. You know the ends of their prime. You have a few years maybe for wikki to work with this group it seems it seems like an odd signing a record mls fee. I think he's a good player. I think he'd be effective in this league. I don't know if he's the one that you break that signing him for four to five years saying you are basically. Yeah you're the you're the fulcrum chrome will build everything else around you. I don't think they need to be really good next year. I don't think they will be really good next to this. Need to be better need to be at least in like in the bottom into the playoffs. I think it'd a good enough and play some fun home games and you're probably good. Well let's go back to what we said about the crew. These signings at their age for their numbers with the way. You're going to sign them. This is what you're locked into. So yes the structure could change but if Chicago makes this signing Jimenez twenty-eight Barrett Twenty six those year. DP's that numbers probably not can change create like that's your team for the next four or five years is being good in two thousand twenty worth setting yourself locked into this level for for the next few years to figure out right. That's the knows Bruce Arena's trying to do the same thing. In New England Branch Metzer is done at once championships in Seattle. We're GONNA take a listen to those two interviews interviews views with Bruce Arena man management and Schmidt. Sir I'm being a Seattle life where we come back. These guys are GonNa tear apart. My top ten biggest signings list as everyone on the Internet has done for the last week. Ten minutes with Bruce Bruce Arena. Let's Talk Man Management Bruce and that is a buzzword a cliche. Maybe but I'm wondering what it means to. You know you've studied it and you've been a practitioner of it for a long time. Men Management is coaching. I think in this modern day where everyone gets excited about analyzing games and drawing arrows and all those other things and think that that's the difference in Games but coaching is managing your players. Not Not only your elite players any player you have on your team and The responsibilities the coaches understand the strengths and weaknesses of players. You team position everyone accordingly. Where you you put them in the best parts to make plays and if you do it right they make more good it plays in bed plays and you have a successful team? And that's all part of a man management where you have dialogue with players understand each other. You're you're in the same same wave length and you give everyone a chance to succeed and really. The goal is position players where they can play. Ah it optimal levels so soccer. It's part of it but the human side is a massive artist walk and that's in every sport and if you see any of the top coaches in any any sport in this country they'd kind of tell you that the same you know. We all know how to put eleven players on the field. It's not that hard and basketball. They not put five on the field. So it's really a a being able to get the most out of each and every player and that comes with communication and that's what men management is players are different so you have to learn how to do did that and communicate and get on the same page. I WanNa take you back through some former players who are very different big personalities maybe big egos and different sorts of profiles start with Marco Etcheverry L. D. Oslo. What was he liked to manage? How did you get through to Marco Etcheverry? Some interesting stories about is is a great guy. I like well. You know one of the qualities of basically all these plays you're GONNA mention and we've heard of. Is they all want to win so they WANNA do whatever is possible for To help the team win. Marco Was a fabulous talents. He had a at times be reminded that he needed to be a better professional. And and understand what his qualities were and not that he didn't know that. But we always wanted Marco positioned in the right places on the field. Be Successful so at Times Marco would come back and try to take a ball off the Senate back when we told him that You know we don't have players that can do that. Then we gotta get rid of them or get rid of you because we need you plan closer to go so convincing Marco that I remember from game one onto winning a championship that year. That And I hate to use this as an example but I actually showed him a chart where his touches were and the the game that we one here in Foxborough for the first. MLS Cup were. Marco really positioned himself in the attack and half of the field and he it that allowed us to be more dangerous than the attack. And will we able to use Marcos quality so overseas and you develop a relationship with a player. You you communicate understand each other and you put them in a right position to make plays maybe nobody. You have a better relationship with long term success club. Country Landon Donovan. Landon a terrific person. Maybe in my view too many ups and downs. When he was a player that could have really been at a high level all the time? But that's that's all part of it so there's always those challenges with Landon but Landon showed up in the big games in the right moments but land in We spent a lot of time together discussing things both on and off the field and challenging but Wonderful person in in a great player you willing to do that is a coach. But that's that's man management aspect to it as well. How do you balance the professional side that you both have responsibility? Both of with the inevitable inevitable friendship. That comes with time together I it just it just tells your players that will people were humans and I and we can. We can have relationships both on and off the field. David Beckham Allieu managers are cast because the first couple years with La. I mean in large part you were brought. In to get the culture and the ship righted and getting David to be in the right place was a big part of that. David wanted to win. They played in the in the biggest clubs in the world and he was success and he he didn't like his first couple years in La and Knowing that he had a burning desire to win and to be successful was important. David David David took a big gamble professionally to come to the United States and play and We had to get it right and I think we got it right. That's why David Beckham is Owner of a of Miami F C today so You know I I again again. I go back to Santa One of the characteristics of all of these peoples. They WanNa win and not they don't don't and it's not always easy that they they always. I want to do it the way you think they should do. But the end of the day you develop a relationship and you reach an agreement on how we're going to work together to be successful. What would you characterize that agreement with David? Like how did you communicate with them. What was what was your relationship like? Yeah I think David. Probably obviously Z company in the United States is a heck of a lot different than playing at Manchester United in relationships. And in the way we've used sports and and all of that and just getting a David would probably hate admitted to say get more Americanized and he he. He couldn't be via the player he wanted to be in Europe and the United States and he had understand what our culture was about but at the end of the day he such a good person and in my. I've you very underrated. As a player I think he he was absolutely a world class player and he did a lot of great things for our team on the field field and he did a lot of great things for this league off the field robby Robby Keno healthy guys win. Some titles he is. We know that footballer. What's that mean?.

"That's a lot of knowles and you're hearing that straight from me. Good old brick knows all right so the the the kids at Notre Dame obviously have some issues going on and they're producing this terrible art and there. It's so incoherent. It's laughable that they choose to go to a Catholic university named after our lady and then they're shocked and appalled and horrified because some of the students is there were Catholic. I bet not even most of the students are practicing Catholics but just some of them are in the spouse. Catholic us and you're not allowed to do that at a Catholic school. The two thoughts on this first of all on the broader political point with this shows us is a big aspect of this debate between so rob Maureen David French and whatever you think about those guys whatever even you think about the debate the premise here the premise that so rub amaury as attacking whether you think it's fair or not the premise is that in the liberal society. We're not going to make any grand moral statements okay. We're not gonNA everything's just GonNa it'd be neutral and what the religious conservatives and so Robert saying is. There's no such thing as neutrality like that. Everybody's gotta serve somebody and so the liberal society is going to enshrine certain virtues and moral oral precepts and those will either be conducive to the good or will be detrimental to the good. The other thing is going after is that in this kind of liberal idea yeah we'll just carve out one little section of Society for religion and look you can practice your religion there and you're not gonna be able to practice it everywhere but your practice at their and that's going to be okay and and with so rob was saying is that's not true. You're not when you have that little cutout for religion. They're just going to go after that next and if you look at the story it's hard to disagree with them. We're not just talking about a religious institution. We're not just talking about one university. We're talking about the Catholic University in American Notre Dame. The students are trying to shut down Catholicism at Notre Dame and by the way increasingly they're being successful at school has really gone downhill in recent years so that's that's just the broader political point it shows you gosh we really are in the midst of a culture. Somebody's GonNa win. Cardinal Manning said that at bottom all political disagreements or theological disagreements agreements and we are fighting in many ways a religious war..

"Sat down to get reacquainted. At last call in invited Edward back to his place to keep the party going when Edward stumbled with Ian toward Mirus car and noticed her in the driver's seat. He has attained sensing Edwards fear, Ian, casually introduced Myra to Edward as his sister Myra played along and soon they had successfully coaxed the teenager into the car with them already. We can see the differences between Ian attempt to lure victim in and Myers. Casual ways of encouraging the children to come with her Myra was friendly and appealed to the children through a request for help. And she was aided by the fact that many children instinctively trust women more than men on the other hand, Ian, used alcohol and the promise of a good time to get Edward in the car research with engaged in has found that are fighter flight response is deeply ingrained into our perception of the world when we make decisions our brains are micro calculating factors. Like body language. The environment memories of past experiences. The prior warnings of loved ones and so on Edwards fight or flight response should have kicked into high gear when he saw Myra waiting in the car. Instead his guard was lowered both by alcohol, and the fact that he already knew Ian additionally studies by the adult development center have found that a fear of missing out on an important fulfilling or pleasurable experience often switches off our instinct that were in danger Edward may have ignored the situations. Danger cues because he was distracted by the promise of a good time at ends house by the time, they had reached Mirus house Edwards instincts might have been kicking back in, but Ian and Myra suppressed them, but popping the cork on another bottle of wine easing, an already tipsy Edward into a full blown drunken stupor, Ian, eased Edward onto the floor and told Myra it was time. For her to summon David Smith Myra slipped out of the house and walked three blocks to Maureen David's home when Maureen answer the door Myra told her she felt unsafe walking alone. So late at night, David offered to walk her home along the way, she told David chits something for him to take home with him and brought him inside David waited patiently in the kitchen as my reduce appeared into the living room. And that's when he heard the scream David burst into the living room and saw Ian wrestling with a teenage boy within seconds e and tossed the boy to the floor and reached for an axe as Edward Evans screamed for his mother. Ian, brought down the axe with a sickening. Thump blood splattered everywhere, Ian, pulled the acts out and swung again. And again each time David could hear the click of metal against bone as the axe buried itself deeper into Edward's head and finally. Split his skull apart after his fourteenth swing. Ian tossed the access side and finished at were off by strangling him with a wire afterward intern to Myra and David still smiling and boasted that this had been there Messier kill yet. David felt paralyzed. He felt like a hot spotlight was bearing down on him. He and Myra clapped him on the back joking that he hadn't believed them when they said they had killed before. He wondered how long that come rotary would last if David let them know how terrified he was inside. If he didn't smile back didn't act natural wood, Ian and Myra kill him to David made a heart wrenching split-second decision. His only hope of getting out alive was to play along with them. Ian, suddenly began to limp realizing that in his fury to kill the teenager at his feet. He had twisted his ankle ianto. Them. They wouldn't be able to move the body out of the house until tomorrow Myra asks David if he would help them rap Edwards body and bed sheet and carry him to a spare bedroom upstairs and David did just that his heart was racing with every step as he and Myra carried the dead bleeding boy up. The rickety stairs, my reassure David that he was one of them now that they were in this together forever. Myra finished cleaning up the remaining evidence and then invited David to a Cup of tea as the three of them sat at the kitchen table, Ian explained to David that they would need him to help bury Edward in subtle worth more in the morning beaming with pride Ian lapsed into a story about how a police officer patrolling the Moores had spotted them burying one of their victims Myra had cleverly convinced the police officer, they were simply looking for glove. She had lost the same lies. She had used to lure Pauline read and John Kilbride to their debts on the outside David hoped. He was putting on a brave face inside his mind was racing. He could feel his stomach desperately trying to recce up his dinner. But in the back of his mind, he believed if he gave away how he felt he'd never leave the house alive. Finally, the conversation began to die down David told them he would return first light to help them move the ball. Eighty Myra walked into the door and told him good night David walked slowly to the corner. But once out of sight, he bolted down the street toward his home. David told his wife, everything he had seen everything he'd felt she was also afraid of what might happen. If David didn't return to help them bury the body in the morning before sunrise on October, seventh nineteen sixty five Maureen and David slipped out of their house carrying carving knife for protection they made their way to a public payphone and called the police. They told the police where the payphone was and that they would wait inside it armed with a knife until they were rive to take them to safety at the police station. Once they're David recounted the previous night, he told the police of his fears of being killed if he had tried to flee instead of helping to clean up at words body. He also told them about Ian claims of having killed before. And his casual story. About bearing their victims in subtle worth. We will question the nature of the traces fandom given the fact that he has been known to walk into the studio wearing Notre Dame and Penn State gear and went to Penn State Notre Dame fan and the trace is wearing a Notre Dame. Is that like a light jacket trace going today slight pullover? Very preppy, very stylish. I like it a lot and my parents who are standing with the Trason and Stewart our big ten fans went to Iowa Iowa grant from Iowa Hawkeye fans, and Michael this'll be nice little connection is be kind of a nice little conversational point little big ten talk.
