"John Lund Pop in line here on a Monday man on the home a guest line. It's Matty Naoko, NBC Sports Bay Area. What's going on? Matt? How are you? I'm doing great. Um yes, trail and throw it around a little bit on Friday, so that was that was climbed to actually get out there. Sees some semblance of football wasn't 11 on 11. They weren't pads, but it was still football. So what about week 8 40 Niners at Bear's Trail. Lance versus Justin Fields? Yes or no? Who, um My guess is that one of those, too We'll be starting and I still think that Jimmy Garoppolo is a good in a fella quarterback. And so I'd say that the my my prediction, and I guess I haven't been great with predictions this offseason, but, um my prediction would be that it'll take an injury. Um, for Garoppolo, Uh, just for Lance. To see the feel is a starter. Um, because I think if Jimmy Garoppolo is healthy, and he's out there playing I think the four years will win a lot of football games and as long as they're winning, and I know that in the Bears game, though, it's two weeks after the bottle of director of the October 31st. Yeah, but I think the thing that we look to is kind of where, Where's the bye week? Yeah, they're gonna advise on the chance that the week after that they play the 24. So it's two weeks after the, but yeah, So I think when you have a team that's not very good. And you don't expect big things from them. I think you you have the luxury of looking and saying, Hey, there's the bye week. You know we can mix the player in. We could mix a rookie quarterback in for you know a few snaps here and there and then let's ramp it up during the bye week and let's get that guy going. For coming out the bye week, but 40 Niners are are different animal. I mean, it's this season is not about Hey, let's get traded Lance out there. Let's live through the ups and downs of having a rookie quarterback and let's just kind of muddle our way through this season and then let's let's get it going in 2022 2023. That's not what this year's about this year's about winning. And if it's Garoppolo gives them the best chance of wedding. And if he as I think pretty much we all expect it's going to be the starter week one. Then if the team's on a roll, you know there's no reason to make that switch unless they see something and practices in the meeting room were like well, like our you know, Acropolis playing okay? Yeah, he were winning with him. What we think we could be so much better with Trey Lance, So I I just think that My my gut reaction is said we could talk a little bit more about this later. But you know, it's good. His tree Lance looks and again seven on seven, so not not a great indicator, But I just think that the winning football games is really the number one goal for this season. Where is I think a lot of teams that have the number three pick. And take a quarterback. You're winning games. That rookie year isn't necessarily the number one goal because for a lot of those teams, they're so bad that that's not realistic. And two years ago, this team was seven minutes and 13 seconds away from one of the Super Bowl. So you watch Trey on Friday. I went down on Saturday morning and watched him and just the smoothness in everything he does under center. Shotgun pistol. His footwork is one point. The ball comes out of his hand. Just beautifully and all throws, especially ones over the middle E powers the ball. On the hash marks in college or wider, But even the pros you can see the arm strength onto the back side left you through a couple of deep shots. But Jimmy's Ah, good thrower of the football as well, and I think Jimmy's arm Talent is underrated, and I think they're gonna get him on the field side by side, Hopefully coming up a week from today, But just from just watching the ball come out of Trey Lance's hand, because obviously he if they're not doing a whole lot of you said Just watching the ball come out of his hand. What did you see from that angle? Yeah, I mean, well, I'd even start before that is you alluded to it like the footwork and a lot of times when you have a rookie coming in, you know, the footwork looks good. It just looks like it's in slow motion, you know, because they're being taught. You know, kind of new things that college quarterbacks don't necessarily go through these days. But you know, I thought is, I thought you just look smooth all the way through it and look natural, and he looked like he had been He's been extremely well coached all the way through. And I think that's one thing that maybe we've lost sight of that. Yeah, he played it. North Dakota State. You know, they're not You know they're not the bull Syriza's caliber football, but it's a slightly lower level. But he got great coaching and North Dakota state, and they did a lot of things. You know the play action where you turn your back to the defense, The footwork. Hey, got great coaching from his private quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery. And then as you mentioned, I mean, it just looks so natural and so smooth, And when he you know when he throws the ball, he's not like Gearing up and just go on for that reaching back and thrown it to get more juice on the ball. It just comes out effortlessly. So I was Just the eyeball test, man. He passes it, you know, And his is throwing motion is any elongated, Um, he looks like he has. I don't know if we should even toggle pocket presence because when I saw there is no pass rush, but, um Yeah, He just he. He looks the part and he he looks the part not only on the field, but in talking. You know, the just those sound bites that you guys played when I was coming in. I mean, he just, uh You can see why is the number three pick in the draft and you almost wonder got they had played a full season. If he played a 2020 season like he played in 2019 would there have been talk? You know who's the number one pick in the draft, but he put him in that put himself in that category with Trevor, who would Trevor Laurence. I don't know. But, um Would say first impressions since coming here, man. Four years have to feel pretty good about the pick. They made it. Number three. Miyoko, NBC sports the area with us. The team announced the signing of wide receiver Marqise Lee earlier today. What's your take on that and what they're sort of tracking toward doing at the Wide receiver position. Well, it's a cliche but angry. You can probably back me up on this. He looks like a man amongst boys because he's a veteran, You know, he's played what 60 games in his career. He's had a couple of good years which acts and Bill and he was out there in a trial basis during the rookie camp, and he just he looks good. Um and so he comes in to compete for job You know, he is not guaranteed. Roster spot by any stretch. In fact, I mean, you could probably say that he's a bit of a long shot. He hasn't played much football the past two years actually passed three years got injured in 2018 didn't play it all from an injury in the preseason and then 2019. I think he's kind of slow to come back from that significant injury, And then he only saw action and about Sixteen's that year, and then the Jags cut him and he went to the Patriots and often doubt and then before even got on the field with the Patriots. They're cutting him so he doesn't have a whole lot of coincidence. And when you look at the wide receiver position right now for the 40 Niners I mean, you know, it's not a group. Necessarily that you just look at it. Go. Wow. What a collection of players they have. But you know you gotta love Debo Samuel and Brandon. I you So you know, those two guys are your starters. And then you know, I think Trance sure Field will make the roster because the special teams if Jalen Hurd is healthy, think you'll make it And then you have a bunch of guys who are kind of battling you When you look at writing, Richie James should make it but Mohammed Sunu Travis, Benjamin, Marquis. Cicely, You're Kevin white trying toe. Get his career back on track..

Richie James Jalen Hurd Trevor Laurence Jimmy Garoppolo Trey Lance Mohammed Sunu Travis Matty Naoko Brandon Trevor Garoppolo 2019 Lance Quincy Avery Benjamin Marqise Lee Debo Samuel 2018 Patriots 2020 60 games

"Nbr 1045 and 6 80, these sports leader. This one doesn't even okay, Mark, will it? Shall we continue into the end of our week? The start of our weekend. Hope you're enjoying it before you get there. Don't forget to check out some things that happened earlier today. I can be our that were quite know worthy. Let's start with the latest on the 40. Niners in the midst of Robert, solemn moving on. What does it mean? Guy Matty Naoko, stopping by with Murphy back this morning on these force leader Matt Naoko was breaking a lot of news. Who's gonna go with Robert Sallah? What layers of all the free agents for the $4 could go? A swell the draft. Big compensation All those things that surround Robert solid bone of the Jets at Mayo Co. NBCs, make sure you're following when reading is great stuff. NBC Sports bear Any joins us, courtesy of the human guests on Hey, Maddie, How are you? I'm doing good and my the gas. There's there's Schefter mean teeth. That's how he went on and on and on and on and on. And on a mountain just like yeah. What Schefter said. All right. Good night, everybody. He's the rumor monger or you have details. Give me more meat on the bone. We know it's five years. Do we know How much money he's going to make for Annam. And are they gonna introduce him as the head coach of the Jets today or what's the schedule? Have you heard anything on these types? Don't know, E I don't know what the jet plan is. Obviously, Urban Meyer just had his press conference. With Jacksonville, so I would think that that thing will be done as I think the I think the Jets announced last night that it was an agreement in principle, which means that your pen hasn't officially hit paper. So I think once that becomes a done deal where you know the ink is dry, then by move forward with Um, a press conference of some sword. It is Friday News dumped Dave so maybe they want What? Hold off on that until Monday, But I would I would think that they would be in pretty short order. But, yeah, Robert saw for everything that I've heard in. You look at the track record and how they've drafted, I think It seems like Joe Douglas is very competent at his job. He's the general manager of the Jets and everything I've heard about him. He's a straight shooter. Good guy to work with. And so I think that was kind of the issue that you had to look at. Like, who would Robert Sauna want to work with? And I don't think they had much or any kind of report before this, but It certainly sounds like and we knew this would happen that if Robert saw it gets in a room with somebody there's going to be a connection there, and he's such a good guy in such you'll thoughtful, detailed. Uh, hey, just he doesn't leave any stone unturned. So I'm sure when there is a press conference when Joe Douglas and Jets management or ownership talked about this I congratulate Inti you one of the things they'll say is that they were just blown away by the level of detail. I mean, I would I know that Robert Solid goes into those interviews you know with here's what we're going to do here is the blueprint on on whatever. On April 27th at 9 P.m.. We will be doing this like he has. You'll have like walk throughs scheduled for just the coach's as as they put together their schemes so that the coaches are all on the same page and they go through the same things that the players will be asked to go through later when they get on the field, So I mean, it's just He's a good situation for him, and I think the Jets made a really good higher. Miyoko giving us the details. Robert Stahl is gonna be the head coach of the New York Jets. We could get into the details in terms of what coaches air possibly gonna go wear. But here's what scares me. The Jets have a ton of cap space and I'm looking at the roster. And to me, it's what if it's not the least talented than this darn close. But they don't have a lot of defensive backs. I know that Kay Juan Williams went to high school in New Jersey and it's from that area It's about he's about 20 minutes away from where the Jets play, so that scares me. Jason Brett, that scares me. They don't have a full back on the roster. Juices of free agent that scares me. They can out of it. The 40 Niners for about anybody they want. He's going to run the same offense and same defense. So who could possibly leave with Robert? Solid from a player's standpoint? Well, it's that's funny that you should ask, because I'm I just sat down to do a piece on some $40 players who could be going to the Jets and the number one guy. The list is K. Juan Williams. Uh, Robert solemn, loves Kay Juan Williams, and that is such a specialty position. Not everybody conducive to it, and a lot of people who do do it. Don't do it very well. And there is this connection that's Allah has with Kay Juan Williams early. She feels it that Kiwanis So on point with his preparation of the way that he studies in place, fast and kind of opens things up for the rest of the secondary, because nobody has to worry about where K a lot away and there's gonna be. He's exactly where he's supposed to be. He can take some chances. They do do some things with him Blessing off off the edge there off the slot. So to me, he's that he's the guy because it's you that position it. It's not a It's not a big money position, but All right. The Jets Congar. Oh, it as far as they want to go to bring him in. And to me that that he just the number one guy, um for them to go out and and target And you know, some of the other guys like a guy like Carrie Haider. Other guys defensive backs. I think they're pretty good. At safety. The Jets are, um if they can, you know, but potentially Jakubowski tard. Um, it wouldn't shock me to see them. Bring in Sherman. Go after Barrett. Who would it surprise me to see them? You know, dear, they come a low level deal toe. Kelly Weatherspoon, see if he can Take advantage of an opportunity. Um Let me out that the thing you mentioned about youse check that. That's also interesting. Um, now the 40 hours will be retaining Mike McDaniel. And so that's that's a big key. Far is used. Check goes because you know Tuesdays. You know, they would a lot of times make the annual would give Kyle you second call in the evening and say, you know you will. You know that. I can't wait until tomorrow. When you walk in and see our installation. I have to tell you about what I got cooking up. This week in the game plan that you're gonna love it. And so there's a There's a trust their little tile use check loves the creativity that like McDaniel brings to the running game. So you know, I think the four years or are going to make every attempt obviously to re sign title used check. And I think the fact that make Daniel more than likely will be staying with the pretty Niners is a very good starting point for the 40. Niners retaining use Jack All right, man. Thanks is always have a great weekend. We'll talk too soon. Okay. So you think that's okay from the 40 Niners? Let's get to the Warriors. No better place to do that than to hang out a little bit with their head coach Steve Kerr with T K B today..

"Sports leader. No, It's not Murph and Mac Murph, his riding in an upgraded uber Somewhere in Marin. It's Mark Will it in for the guys Hope all is well, get ready for a happy new year and man, this is definitely going to be a very happy New year, looking forward to flicking 2020 out the back window. But before we do that, let's hang out with Matty Naoko for a little while on the 40 Niners, NBC Sports Bay Area What's going on that Nothing too much marked itself on a traditional coverted morning. Walk with my daughter way do about two miles every morning. And so you got me in a great time. Perfect. Perfect out in in fresh air. With the dog will bombing time with my 16 year old daughter. So, yeah, we're having a having a grand old time and no better time to talk to you about the The end of the season by a pretty forgettable season. The present 40 Niners. It's coming to an end. That's very true by the way out in nature, and it sounds like you're all masked up and being very responsible as well. That is true. Oh, goodness, which serves a good purpose as well, because it keeps your nose and mouth war. That's true, by the way, I was e told the listeners earlier a couple hours ago. I did something last night with my 13 year old son. I've never done before We played in a little nine whole Glow golf tournament at night. Um, And it was a ton of fun, except for the fact that it was like 40 degrees on you couldn't feel your hands by the second hole and and some people, you know when you're out on the golf course, and I was with one family member just very easy to distance and you don't necessarily have to mask up. But a lot of us did because we're like I need to keep my face from freezing right now. Yeah. And glove up to it Sounds like no, no doubt. No doubt. I could have been a two gloves golfer last night. It would have it would have made said so. So, Hey, interesting timing. Robbie Gold gets a two year extension after one of his worst days as a as a 40 Niner, but I think it makes sense and not just developed a few minutes ago. What's your reaction to that? Yeah, they had a deadline on Saturday that they had to pick up the final two options or final Two years of that deal, And so you know, the price tag was gonna be pretty difficult. So what they did was basically, uh, made a deal that was best for both sides, So they shave off some cap room and then keep him around for two years, so win win. Shaving cap room is an interesting topic for the 40 Niners. It seems like they're going to have to do that this offseason. Where are some of the other opportunities for them to do that? And is a Jimmy Garoppolo restructure, possibly one of them? Well, if the team decides that, yes, Jimmy Garoppolo is the quarterback and I think they have to do that. I don't think they have too many other options. But that's you know, that's probably one of the things that kind of opens the door and by the way, I'm walking uphill right now. So that's why I'm having panting away will be part of your workout. I love it. But one of the you know once they once they committed, Jimmy Holy, then I think you'll see a restructure, but before that, you know, I wouldn't expect The Ford Weston Richburg. Um, you know, those are guys that I think they can move on from, you know, guys who have pretty big contract for next year. So those are some of the areas where I think that they will Look to creation. Captain Matt are you feeling right now like that is the likely play a quarterback restructure and then either sign a high quality backup address it at some point in the draft, but but still have Jimmy G under center week, one based on Kyle's comments earlier this week. Yeah, I kind of read it like there was. You know, there was something that happened in the 40 Niners behind the scenes. I don't think that they just started talking about that this week. And so the way I read it was, you know, they've done their preliminary homework and They just can't find a reasonable solution. So to me, it seemed like Kyle's comments were pretty calculated. And so that that's definitely the way I read. It was. Hey, look, and he said it, You know they'll continue to explore options. Huh? In order for them to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo. There has to be a a knave, a new for them to get better. And you know whether that's you know, a quarterback that can give you what drop will give you And cost less to help out other parts of the roster or a quarterback. That's an upgrade a veteran guy who's proven, but that's kind of the way I read it was this fake. I think you'll be back or he said. I believe he'll be back. But they're keeping the door open, and I think the when it comes to the point Where it's you know, There are no other options. That's when you'll see them restructure. Yeah s o. I read something interesting this morning with regard to the actual Salary on the books coming next year for Matthew Stafford, and it's a lot lower than than what many of us thought based on the complexity of the numbers and how the cap it works. And all of that, so I would think, as you said, they probably explored a lot of these things. But but are those kind of veteran guys is that something that could still come up? Because I would imagine Detroit hasn't even They don't have a new group in there yet. So have they. Maybe not even addressed what they want to do. Going forward with with a player like that. Yeah, I think that's all part of it is that you know, there will be new decision makers and some of these places, So you know, the team will have to have conversations with whoever the The general manager is and Detroit's Where were the head coaches in Detroit and in the lines will have to figure out what they want to do at a number of different spots, including obviously the quarterback position, So yeah, that's why I think that you know they're not gonna And then when? Just so our listeners know here at least let me take my mask off. Restructure. I'm inside. Now restructure means that the player gets the same amount of money. It's just Structured in a way where the cap it is kind of spread out over time, and with Garoppolo is contract the way it is. Now there's basically no cap it if they were to move on from him, But if you you spread out that signing bonus, shall we give him whatever his base salary was gonna be, But you give to me as a signing bonus Now that money is spread out over time, so that's how You don't have to ask him to take a pay cut. He doesn't have to take a pay cut. It's just the way the money is doled out to him that has an impact on the salary cap. So the downside of that for the 40 Niners is next year whenever the team decides to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo. More money will count against the cap when he's not here or more of that, that money On this year will count against next year's capital. That's very doable this year of all years because the cap will be rising significantly in 2022. So that's why you would make that decision. But you don't do that until you know for sure. That grapple is going to be your quarterback that Naoko, NBC Sports Bay Area, our man on the 40 Niners joining us here on these ports later, Mark Willard in four. Murph and Mac. I don't text her earlier today. Asked about free agency and the texture named Trent Williams, Jason Moret. Kyle used Jack and carry Haider Junior and said, What do you think? Can they keep all these guys by answer? And I just want to check it with you and see if you back it. I was like I think that Williams and Moret will be prioritized Hiders probably gone juice 50 50. How would you have answered it? What I think I'll use check will be back because you look around the league and there just aren't very many teams that have a use for a full back so Would be led to believe that that used check will be back. I think I broke a one Williams in there as far as priorities. But here's the thing with all those defensive guys you mentioned are you of the belief that Robert Stahl is gonna be head coach in the NFL next year? Because I am right? And if you are.

Because obviously the Olympics, Okay, just throwing that ball away. It's in fact, it sounded like Haven't rewatched that play, but it sounded like maybe on the other side was Wilson and that's where he should have gone and additionally But then, once that kind of dried up, he should have just gotten rid of the ball, thrown it out of bounds of this chanting and said he should have thrown it to him on the sidelines. And he's a guy you can. You can always tell Kyle Shanahan. He's a he's always wide open. Remember one Russ started shooting his mouth off crazy Rust Westbrook and he was like I'm gonna do it is something to do that you could meet me and we had him on the show. And Paulie walnuts is like, how could I just get the guy in the head? I saw blood go flying. Guy gets up and run away. They never found him again. So that was for me, Murph. I still feel like it's a winnable game. I I wish our health was a little bit better, but I do not like I said earlier, man, it just I don't like not overly cocky, but it would not shock me. "Mark Wheeler show continues here on this Wednesday evening. But let's not forget Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon as well. It's time for the rewind first. David Shaw, head coach at Stanford with a fun chat with the guys this afternoon on T K B. Well, let's get to what you've been dealing with. And I just Take us through it a little bit. What you've kind of been dealing with is a is a head coach from is a season on, isn't it? It doesn't look like it is. Well, maybe it is in January. Oh, call. We're back on, possibly and now. Have you have you dealt with all the uncertainty? Well for most head coaches of any sport, and we are We are structured were ordered. We like our schedules. We like our calendars. And they've all gotten blown up repeatedly since March. So, um, we've had to have a lot of patients had to be very, very flexible. Our student athletes, in particular have have had an emotional rollercoaster ride to not sure where we're going showing up in June, working really hard for about a month and a half to get ready and postpone the season and oh, by the way, it's back on So we've had to deal with a lot of that. And and I but our guys, you know, we older people sometimes forget how resilient College age kids are and they've been able to bounce back and snap back in, and they're so excited to play there. So fired up to play. They're working really hard. Into all the social distancing and masking and what we can do this today? No, we can't do this. Now We can do this and borrow mine for them if they want to play so bad. They've adopted the phrase whatever it takes. So whatever county restrictions we have whatever school restrictions we have campus restrictions. Coaches tell us what we can do and what we can do. We just want to play so That's a commission from our guys have been the true and grow up a lot. In a short period of time, um and handle all the things that were going on, but I couldn't be more proud of how they handle it. Coach, You know, it's great, talked again, by the way, and I'm just you know, you got the season coming up and you're starting a little late, but everybody in the conference is in the same boat. But what is your concern? What's your primary concern or concerning you and your staff, guys try to get these guys ready to get to go. The biggest concern is this virus. I think we've had We've got all the precautions that we can have. But this thing has circled the globe multiple times, and it's everywhere. So the chances that that someone in arson are bubble during the course of the year. Well, we'll catch the virus is still relatively high, and there's still a possibility that it's going to happen. No more probability. So preparing for that Perry for the layers of your coaches now, you know. Hey, If we're gonna miss this coach, then this person has to has to take responsibility on Game day. You have to think you're all those things your staff European players just because you know that this thing's cropped up in its crept in AA lot of different places, so that's the biggest thing and then beyond that. Now It's just getting ready to play travel you're dealing with, You know different rules for hotels and claimed and buses, so I'm not a logistical things. But the driving force for me is you see, we're going to practice. But guys are so excited. Um, their daily lives right now. I said that's too group of alumni idea tonight. We think about all the things that We think about our college and outside of Class and our support our guys get none of that. All those other things that come to our mind. We think of our time in college right now. They don't get any of that. And I feel so bad for them, but at the same time they understand, you know, Gosh, At least I get to go to class and Lisa gets to play football. So have that appreciation for what we're asking these these young people to do is significant, but you see them when they get a chance to go on the field and run around and play this ridiculous sport that he loves. That's the voice of Stanford head coach David Shaw. Joining us on the only guest line here on the Tolbert Kruger and Brooke Show. Is there anything With this unusual situation that you feel you and your coaching staff and by extension your team can take advantage of Can. Can you use this as a teachable moment to get a teacher? Your individual players, sort of personal responsibility. Take care yourself and by extension, your taking care of others. So there's kind of a teamwide responsibility placed on their shoulders. I'm just don't nose out. As a couple of examples. Is there anything that kind of goes in that direction? Oh, there's no question. It's part of our usually our summer conditioning. We find different ways to tie guys to each other. It's the ultimate team sport and we could have one great player and not be any good at all. But you can have no great players and a lot of decent players and play great as a team, so We typically find ways to say Okay, you did. Great teammates didn't do great. So you've lost so we develop these competitions will. This is the biggest one. Now Every decision you make, you have to think about your teammates. Are you? Are you gonna wear your mask? Are you goingto do takeout and not dying in? Are you going to keep this is from people. War. You're gonna put yourself and your teammates at risk because it's not just getting the virus. It's also having high risk contact. You get the virus and you put other guys too close to you and your highest contacts. You can wipe out a good portion of your team for 14 days period. And that's that's where that's what's happened all over the country that bunch down a bunch of different campuses. We just keep pointing out to those those those of the dead. This is what happened so that it may creep in just because is a really, really tough bug. Um, but Are our effort has to be doing everything they can to keep this virus today. It seems like AA team leadership to me would be important here because the coach you could say that's all they want. But let's be honest. I mean, kids that age are engineered to just do stupid stuff. When we all work that we do step that we look back on a regret. It seems like this is worth more. You go ahead. I would. I would definitely be in that category. There's any doubt about that, you know, but it seems to me coach the team like the leaders in the team. Would be more able T get through to some of the players saying, Hey, this is us. We want to play. You want to play? We all want to play. We've got to do this together because you know it. Just messing it up for you. You mess it up for all of us and the all of us, and it seems like a message like that coming from the team from team leaders. Would really, really sink in, at least to me. It would There's no question about it, especially guys that Our seniors and plan on playing these seven plus games and going going to the NFL, and they don't want to lose a game so they don't want someone else causing them to lose a game. So You know, the unit from those guys is great because I still said I had great coaches right on. Denny Green was my head coach Bill Walsh is a head coach Brian Billick, that receivers coach turned Willingham was on the staff Ron Turner. Coaching, and still the most impactful voice that I had in my time was coming from. Shall we go to the pros? Let's talk a little 40 Niner football. Matty Naoko stopped by the morning show today with morphine back on these sports later we've been talking about just wrapping her head around this patriot. You know, it's a team we don't see ever You know, everybody has sort of a passing knowledge of the Brady Belichick patriots. But they're not the Brady Belichick Patriots anymore, and they delayed a serious egg against the Denver Broncos last Sunday. Which kind of heightens your radar, right, But In your early scouting here of this Patriot team. What's the vibe? And is it a team? The Niners Khun Go beat, Or is it impossible to imagine Belichick losing multiple games at home in a row where you had mentally as for the in terms of the matchup?.

"And big moments earlier. Today on KNBR will start in the morning show when we got updated on everything that is 40 Niners with our buddy Matty Naoko with Austin, NBC sports Be area as he stopped by with Murph in Mac. Hey, on Sunday, speaking of the Rams, so just before we let you go, man, we got to get a hit here. So, Jimmy Looks like yes is Rand. I mean, the matchup looks bad. I mean, the Ah, nine year old line is not playing Well, here comes Erin. Donald. Jimmy Garoppolo is not playing well. Here comes Erin. Donald. You know George Kittles. You're one weapon. Here comes Jalen Ramsey. You know Jared Goff's throwing the ball great. The Niner DBS air Hurting. I'm looking for a positive match up here. I'm looking for Ah, a positive match up here. Ah boy, get back to you on Ellen that. I mean, this is the Rams are playing well, you know, they're playing well, they they had that hiccup last season, which really Wasn't that much of a hick up when they were nine and seven, the year after the Super Bowl, and everybody was talking about him like you know, they were this disastrous Super Bowl jinx year, Andre would have made the playoffs if the 40 of the NFL had the same. Playoff formula last years they're going to have for this year, which is seven teams to reach conference making it in. This is that this is a tip difficult one. Um, but this is also A good opportunity for the 40 Niners as a potential season turning around game too, Because the Rams they're healthy. I mean, I think they have, like three guys on I R. Compared to the 40 Niners 13. As well as three other guys on PCP. So the 40 years are banged up. No question about it is it is a huge I ask for them. To win this game. Defensively, They're going to have to come up with something. You know that they're not getting the pass rush. They they might get mostly back. So that's a good thing for its been playing Well. Ah, there, they're superstars. We're going to have to step it up and play like superstars. Grapple is going to have to spread the ball around. They're going to have to control the game on offense. With the running game with short passing game. You can't You can't get in third and long is because Aaron Donald will wreck your day and so it is. It is a tough task, but I guess that's the way to look at it is it could really have a huge impact on the rest of season that foreigners can pull this off. Oh, yeah, We had a call used to come Wednesday, said McCroskey. Tarts said to him. Hey, this is the week we get the win that turns it around. Immediately. I said that on Twitter and immediately a fan retweeted and said, Niners lose my 16. So stick around and tell them tell the coach where writers killers, But, yeah, brother just already on the text line. We have a gentleman sent a picture of her who sent it him or his girlfriend or the girlfriend and his boyfriend. It's a couple. They're wearing the red hats and they're saying this is the answer. Bring back the rake over the red kill hats. So That little that little little tiny member of small that logo wasn't like. Microscopy is hard to see. I don't even know that was a nine hour head. Got him to the ball, though. Come to the ball. Well, it's going to be like you said. I was going to be something unexpected and, you know, listen, They have talent and you know it's a It's a football game and strange things happen. Turnovers, of course, can play a huge role in all this. But we'll be watching Matty and then we'll be watching your zoom Q and A's with Kyle. We'll see how that goes. Okay, but hashtag WW What would I radio? Well, I will say that I fully knew that I was taking one for the team. I do that there. I would be subject. Think, subjecting myself to some ridicule. And perhaps some got think skin are coaching him. I do it. I knew it going in. I was ready to pull it. But you don't you know you made happy is Louis from the beer drinking club He's happened. I did. I did. He is now like now we've We've planted the seed and she and he has mine now, Kyle, you'll Kyle's pretty stubborn so Now he probably will really blow up. And if there was a chance of him putting on the red hat now, no chance he might actually were actual full on Raider hat on Sunday. Now, you know, I mean, like an actual like that's the cross that with the eye patch and everything so All right, Maddy, be good. Enjoy the game. Sunday should be fascinating. Either way, and then we'll radio, of course to take care of you later. That's great. Matt Naoko asking the questions. Others won't even dare to ask from the news with the 40. Niners tow the 40 Niners. Here we go. Head Coach. Caution had all with T. K B today, Coach what's going on? How much guys are you guys doing? Good looking forward to the game this weekend. So let me just ask you what in your mind What's happened The last couple weeks like if you could boil it down. I know it's all kinds of different things, and in fact, we could boil it down to a couple of things. What's been the Ah, the biggest common and nominated the past couple weeks for you. Um, let me go back to Philly game and I think we started out the game That's in a number of opportunities. And then when we had a chance to get a run game going, we had a couple of guys off that got us in some second alongs, and I thought we did pretty good on defense. But then we ended up turning it over three times, put them in a bad situation, and they end up getting a gore out there at the end, which and then we gotta pick six, which got us down two scores, But I mean, I think we're mean it seems like forever ago right now, but I think we're up 14 11 and the fourth I want to say on and then very quickly did that change with the pick six with another turnover are sorry. The pick six and the go route and we weren't able to come back from it last week, Verse Miami, but that was a different situation. You know, just coming out the way we did the injury that we had and what we weren't expecting throughout the week toe where you know, I felt really bad the position that we put Brian Allen in having a moving up from practice squad at the end of the week, and that was just something we had to deal with. With an injury that surprised us and you know he went out there and that's went out of every single play. And by the time we stopped the bleeding and tried to make a change, I figure what the score was then. But I know going into halftime. Those 32 7, especially with those two picks that we had right at the end of the second quarter, So anytime you give spot a team that many points, then you turn it over that many times to start the game. I don't care who you're playing bad things are gonna happen, but You know, I mean, I was I was excited about a run game. You know, I thought we were grabbing over six yards a carry. I thought Rahim looked as right how he left off, but we were able to give it involved as much playing catch up like that, and I didn't play a good game all across the board, but tough thing about football..

"Yeah. I don't do a lot of that in terms of scheme. You know, I leave that to those guys now. Um, uh, You know, I think a healthy dynamic we have in this building and I spent a lot of time downstairs. I say downstairs in my office is air upstairs and downstairs with all of our coaches, And you know the one thing I mean, the position that I know safety. Sometimes I talked to that group a little more on things that I'm seeing, but in terms of scheme and all that, you know, I love it that sometimes solid. We'll say we're thinking about this one. What do you think? And you know, I always I always approach these things. You know, Because part of my job A great way to see pending free agents is to watch. The film, so I still study it like I'm playing that week. And like I'm preparing to play because it also allows me to see a lot of people lot of players throughout the league that may someday become free and things and so Yeah, I try to stay up on it. But no, I'm not calling plays, not doing any of that. That's not my job. But you're always Schouten. To a certain extent, You're always evaluate you always looking for talent. John Lynch joining us here in the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooke Show. What can you tell us about Jimmy Garoppolo the chances of him playing on Sunday he's been limited in practice. Thes these first two days of preparation. Yeah, well, I think Jimmy has has done a really good job on this rehab, just like he does. I mean, he's a very hard worker. He's been very intent on being out there as soon as possible. It's hurt him not to be out there. Um, and you know, the good news is he's been out there now. We're through two days of practice, and he's been out there both days. I always think it's a positive step when you practice Wednesday, and you come back feeling a little better on Thursday. That's typically a good sign when you don't regress and You're making progress. And I think that was the case today. You know, we, uh, the other guys, they're getting reps as well. So we'll see. You know, Kyle will make that decision along with our medical staff as to where exactly Jimmy's that, But, um, you know, I think there's been a lot of positive signs. But we just You've got to make sure that everything's right. There's you know, the The Dolphins all these teams. I mean, he's either big men coming at the quarterback, and that's their job. And so you have to be able to move, perform and and, you know, be capable of keeping yourself healthy. So all those things will go into the evaluation. But there's been some good signs this week. All right, there's lips. Now let's go to more of the newsies side of it and check in with our guy. Maddie Naoko, who paid a visit to Murphy, Mac this morning on can be our man. So I mean, I know you were sort of put that game in the rear view mirror. But before we move ahead of the Miami game, just you no reflection on that is that The Trent Williams Mike McGlinchey performance. I mean, you know it's game, it happened. Whatever Trent Williams. His record is as long as anybody's in the league for great play. But McGlinchey just kind of wondering, Is there any thought or analysis that he's not having a good year? Yeah, I think that's I think that's fair to say it looks like he's he's struggling in pass protection in on Sunday night, he struggled in very inopportune times on that last drive. I I don't I think he was doing okay for most of that game. And according to Profootballfocus, he still hasn't allowed a sack this season, while Trent Williams has allowed three. But there's no way he comes out of that came feeling good about his performance and It was those back to back hits on the final drive with the 40 Niners were up against the clock and and and move the ball down into striking range. So yeah, that that had to be a disappointment, I think is his blocking in the run game is good, but Yeah, it's there's always going to be that that thought in everybody's mind that here was a guy they took with the number nine overall pick and you need More consistent, better all around performances from him. I don't think the 40 Niners are necessarily panicked by this. You know, there's clearly no talk about shaking things up on the offensive line. Because the best guys we're playing right now, But yeah, no. I think that everybody would expect himto play more consistently. Better consistently, and I mean, that's that's one of their issues. I guess the good news for those guys, they're probably not could be going up against the defense of line quite like that from. I mean, you know, Erin Erin Donald's coming down in a week or so, but that's not gonna be Mike McGlinchey. His problem. Right. Eric Terran doll is everybody's problem. Basically, he's a failure. You're right. That's a good point to the quarterback who will have to be worried about Aaron Donald next week, but this Sunday, so Maddy, I know nothing has been revealed. But you know you study Kyle and you study. Trends and the way these things roll. What's your? What's your veteran observation on Jimmy Garoppolo? I mean, I know he's limited in practice yesterday, and Kyle doesn't want to say anything, and I imagine Asking right now is a little premature because they've got to go through a couple days of practice, but what you're feeling Yeah, this's speculative, but in my mind Jimmy Garoppolo. You don't put him out for a walk through and potentially be taking reps away from a guy who could use ever the set of you know every bit of preparation possible. So in other words, yesterday morning when they went out for their walkthrough, Jimmy Garoppolo was a quarterback, and it's just It's just that if they walked through it if you're walking through the plays You're seeing very slowly how the defense is going to play certain things, and then you got a synthesize your view and the decisions you would make, so it's a very It's a walk. If it's literally that a lot to me, if if you didn't think that Jimmy Garoppolo had a chance to play You would. You wouldn't have him out there because Nick Mullins could sure use that. Those wraps that experience or CJ Beth So my thought is that they're going to give every chance for Jimmy Garoppolo to go out there and play and he didn't make it for a limited practice yesterday. What? That in in tails. I'm not completely sure. But will we'll check out how much he practices or if he's more full go today, and if he's full go on any point to their tomorrow, I would think he he would be Out there playing on Sunday and then the other part of that is okay. So let's say he doesn't play. Then who would be the starter? And I just think that even though I believe that Because she any and thinks that she did that there might have more physical tools and might be able to do everything that he would want to do it his offense. And maybe even a higher level the neck Molins. I just don't know that he can pull off of Nick Mullen so quickly. But I would. I would also suspect that if morons runs into issues like he did Sunday night. Kyle would make that change on a heck of a lot quicker, TJ. Right, so, man. Oh, man. I mean, it's it's interesting. All three guys are on the table really are watching practice. The next two weeks. I guess if you're talking about the good news is and I see you guys have a piece up on Deebo Samuel in 25 snaps last week. I saw that If Jimmy goes in, Rahim goes, actually, I should probably pause before everything is Any word or thought on Rahim. Same same kind of question. Given what you know what, you know the knee or you. Would you be more if he on that wonder what probably because of You know, in the with most her, you know he's going to take hits. I mean goal for Garoppolo is to keep him upright and not taking any hits. And everything is is a little bit more structured and predictable for a quarterback, where is for a running back. Yeah, You got it Make split second decisions that your knees and ankles have to be in tune with, so I would think that I would think that's probably a little bit more if he with with most hurt playing, but it would have shocked me to see both of those guys out there on Sunday. Nice there it is. The rewind. John Lynch. Matty Naoko, appearing earlier today on Can be our Jason Verrett with us right before that, coming up next, some final thoughts. "And obviously, we don't have to say Russell Wilson twice and Kaehler another time and in camp. Look that murderer's row that they're facing. I mean, after this game against the Dolphins, they have so that this is this is the fifth game, so they have the 11 games left and they play Washington in December. And then take that one out of the mix. The other 10 games are Like against really quality opponents in my thought was, you know you look at the first five games of the season, 40 hours should win those five. Then they should beat Washington in December so erratically They could have should of whatever or had the possibility the likelihood of going six. You know in those games and then all you have to do Is go five and five against the really good teams on your schedule and boom. There's 11 wins. You're in the play offs. No questions asked. But through four games of going 500, all that does now is it puts pressure on those 10 games against the really good teams where you have to do better than 500 just to be sniffing the playoffs? Yeah, buddy. Well, this is why we have fun. That's why they play the games and we'll see what happens against Miami on Sunday, so Great wide ranging chat. So yeah, that that had to be a disappointment, I think is his blocking in the run game is good, but yeah, it's there's always going to be that that thought in everybody's mind that here was a guy they took with the number nine overall pick and you need More consistent. Better all around performances from him. I don't think 48 hours or necessarily panicked by this, you know, there's clearly no talk about shaking things up on the offensive line, because the best guys we're playing right now, But yeah, no, I think that everybody would expect himto play more consistently better consistently, and ah, I mean, that's that's one of their issues. I guess the good Good news for those guys. They're probably not could be going up against the defense of line quite like that from. I mean, you know Aaron Aaron Donald's coming down in a week or so, but that's not gonna be Mike McGlinchey's problem. Right. Aaron Doll is everybody's problem. I mean, I know he's limited in practice yesterday, and Kyle doesn't want to say anything, and I imagine Asking right now is a little premature because they got to go through a couple days of practice, but what you're feeling Yeah. I mean, this is speculative, but in my mind, Jimmy Garoppolo. You don't put him out for a walk through and potentially be taking reps away from a guy who could use ever The set of, you know every bit of preparation possible. So in other words, yesterday morning when they went out for their walkthrough, Jimmy Garoppolo was a quarterback, and it's just it is just that it if they walked through its you're walking through the plays you're seeing. Very slowly how the defense is going to play certain things, and then you can synthesize your view and the decisions you would make, so it's a very It's a walk. If it's literally that a lot to me, if if you didn't think that Jimmy Garoppolo had a chance to play You would. You wouldn't have him out there because Nick Mullins should could sure use that. Those wraps that experience or CJ Beth So my thought is that they're going to give every chance for Jimmy Garoppolo to go out there and play and he didn't make it through a limited practice yesterday. What? That in tails. I'm not completely sure. But will we'll check out how much he practices or if he's more full go today, And if he's full go it any point today or tomorrow. I would think he he would be Out there playing on Sunday and then the other part of that is okay. So let's say he doesn't play. Then who would be the starter? And I just think that even though I believe that That call. CNN thinks that C J about that might have more physical tools and might be able to do everything that he would want to do with his offense. Maybe even a higher level the neck Molins. I just don't know that he can pull off of Nick Mullen so quickly. But I would. I would also suspect that if morons runs into issues like he did Sunday night Kyle would make that change a heck of a lot quicker if we go to TJ bettered right, so, man. Oh, man. I mean, it's it's interesting. All three guys are on the table. You really are probably still watching practice. The next two weeks. I guess if you're talking about the good news is and I see you guys have a piece up on Deebo Samuel in 25 snaps last week. I saw that If Jimmy goes in, Rahim goes, actually, I should probably pause before everything is Any word or thought on, Rahim. Same same kind of question. Given what you know what? You know the knee are you? Would you be more if he on that wonder what probably because of You know, in the with most her, you know he's going to take hits. I mean, the goal for Garoppolo is to keep him upright and not taking any hits. And everything is is a little bit more structured and predictable for a quarterback. Um, where is for a running back? You know, you gotta make split second decisions that your knees and ankles have to be in tune with, so I would think that I would think that's probably a little bit more if he with with most hurt playing, But what it shocked me to see both of those guys out there on Sunday night, I would almost think you'd want them. At least to get out there a little bit. I don't know if you'd want to bring them back after three weeks off for actually in both their cases, 3.5 games off When it's the Rams coming to town, and now you're starting to get in that position where The game's started getting important..

"Only the guy that that they keep around, so they yes, they've done a very good job of extending the draft beyond seven rounds and picking up guys and you know there is no eighth around. But if undrafted free agency is the eighth round, they've done a really good job in the eighth round. All right, there it is from Matty Naoko. Now we go over to Tim Ryan, who stopped by with Papa and one today. Yeah, it was fun, man. That was and I kind of feel like Were, you know the first game at home, and it was all different. First day on the road was crazy, different being being at Levi's doing it in the third game. I think we start to get our sea legs about us a little bit in terms of just How the accident was gonna unveil and you know, with all the limitations and all the injuries that this team you start season, beat up on on offense with the weapons and then kid, although goes down right away, and then the week to debacle of everything on defense and trying to figure out how they're going. Fill those gaps and man it was fun to watch it on Sunday at New York with those gaps getting filled and just playing great team football that and I just felt like it. We do you feel the same way Pop like we kind of started to get a little bit of a rhythm in terms of how this is gonna work. Oh, totally. And I first game, you know, just for more we're at. I didn't know how it was gonna work. I mean, we told the story last week about how the iPad you know, saved us because we didn't get to feed the feeds were up. The all 20 twos were better. We figured out the glare issue. We put some cardboard boxes up. It was Tim's great idea. It's still weird, though, on you know what I'm excited about is Sunday and at Sunday night football and I'm gonna be waiting all week for Sunday night. But I I was just talking to Bob Lang 40. Niners played three in a row at home. When was the last time it's like a baseball like a three game home standard basketball three in a row in baseball, you get it all the time in a serious but this is a great opportunity. And I know you know, going on the roads not is down Ting and being at home. It's not the advantage. It used to be to him, but After being away for a week and a half to have three in a row at home. It's highly unusual. Yeah, and you would. You would think that it's that I don't remember the last time that it happened, But you would expect the batteries to have more juice in him, for sure, with guys being home being with their families being back to somewhat of the normalcy in terms of the You know the protocol bubble They live in every day. But it's It's different than being on the road for a week and a half in and out in New York, and I get a lot of credit and the coaches in the game plan and the execution and, most importantly, the execution. And going going back their own one and coming back in two and one, and, you know, obviously, Seattle hasn't lost yet, but Right back in the mix with a whole lot of football left to be played. So you look at the next two, and that's where I think Philadelphia is going to be dangerous set on three. You look at their next two games. They're at Pittsburgh and then they've got the Baltimore Ravens. The team doesn't want to start on five. They've had injuries through the through the roof. But the same thing with the 40 Niners. You've got to come back and and build these winds and start stacking these winds one at a time when you look in the next two opponents and nothing's easy, but certainly winnable games. Setting up for the big Ram game in the third of the final homestand, But there's gonna be a dangerous team Philadelphia I don't care about all their injuries and yes, they're going to have an impact. They're going to try to win this thing on defense Pro. Has Johnny Linwood, It's gonna get crazy crazy. Hey, I know you as a former player, and there's there's a mantra there. It's next man up, but a lot of times. It's easier said than done, But we could start with that. We could talk about every position group who stepped up against the Giants. And while most people wouldn't say this, I would I think it was one of Kyle's most impressive wins because everybody who had to step up literally did Yes, and called the right place and getting the right guys involved in the game plan. I mean, I know he'd like to have run it better in the run game they stuck with with it enough, Johnny that it started getting cranked up right at the end of the second quarter and Ended up providing some points. But with that front and where they were challenged with A lot of new players on the back end of that defense with a whole new system. You know, the 40 Niners looked like a well oiled machine in terms of knowing what they're doing. No. One where the beaters are the quarterback being patient getting the ball out on time getting it toe to guys that were certainly part of the game plan during the week in terms of how they tried to build it. I mean, it was To me obvious, getting 11 the ball early in the game with a couple of touches and end arounds and then coming back out in the third quarter and And taking what the defence gave him but putting him in position to go make plays and pop. They move him all over the place for a rookie to be able to do that. After missing, you know the the opener and not getting a whole bunch of Whole bunch in in week two. He he's You knew it was going to beam or and you can see it coming to fruition. So moving him around and him been ableto handle. All that mental is I think kudos to him and then Kent born you guys and we'll go down the list of the guys that he got to step up Rasta. Well, he stepped up to the roof and had a bunch of big blocks on top of some big time catches and yards after the catch the running game Jeff McKenna and not just receiving And running, and he made big plays in both departments. But with the protection and then most importantly, the preparation and the execution of the quarterback. I agree with you in terms of putting all that together against? I don't know what the Giants were ranked fourth or fifth. Me and they played, you know, play the Steelers, and they played the Bears, who have certainly have had their challenges on offense, but For Nick moans to do that, with an extended period of time that he hasn't been on the field for real against NFL defenses. I thought it was unbelievably impressive, and now comes even a bigger challenge or a much bigger challenge with this Eagle D coming in and So much of it when you watch tape, Jim Schwartz, and you can link it upto back in the Detroit days and I did a lot of those Lions games when Jimmy was the head coach there. And Crisco Sarah came in is the defense of line coach and following Jim Washburn, who's legendary coaching You know, truly coaching all gas, no brakes with defensive lineman and those wide nines. Brandon Graham sweat Barnett pop their face master about six inches off the ground all their weight's forward. And they're flying off the edge, trying to box everything in and force it back to those to those animals inside in Fletcher, Cox and Malik Jackson, it's how he did it in Detroit. Within Dhammika NSU..

"With the lights go down in the city. It's time for the Mark Willard KNBR 1045 and 6 80 sports leader. Mark will show Thursday night. You know how I loved by Thursday's. It's when you start smelling the weekend smelling the football. There was a game earlier tonight. You could sort of call that a game. Broncos jets I don't know. Bit of a J B thing as we get ready for the real weekend as we do that, let's get into the rewind and hear a lot about this. 40. Niners and Eagles match up starting With our buddy Matty. Naoko, NBC Sports Bay Area who was on with Murph in Mac this morning on can be our Matty to questions. A Are you okay? And be How the hell did that happen? Yeah, Too good questions. I'm okay. In fact, if it's such a sharp And vicious plant that I didn't even realize it was like if you get stabbed with a butter knife, and now I'm not speaking to experience but I'm assuming if you get stepped with a butter knife, it's going to feel one way you get stabbed with a really sharp knife. Might do more damage, but you don't necessarily, uh, Maybe the impact of it isn't his great. That's probably a horrible analogy. But anyway, I'm all ears. This God, a plant. It was like a scalpel. Tze sticking out and I walked past It brushed past it on our porch as I was going out there to feel the phone call and And didn't even react. L like something like that. I don't know where that came from. But that might leave a mark. And then later I checked it out. And, yes, it did. Leave a mark. It looked like Edward Scissorhands got ahold of me or something. It's gnarly. Everybody steer clear of your by the way. Do you guys get tequila out of your goddamn plants? Um well, the I did not realize we haven't got a plan. Don't I quote her with it Fairly new addition to the porch and I wasn't Ah, I didn't expect it to be in my my foot Traffic path s O. I promptly moved it to a place where it can do no damage. Do no harm. I got a plan. My goodness. Alright. Mattie, who's playing quarterback on Sunday for the 40 Niners on Sunday night against the Eagles. My guess would be Nick Mullen. The thing that Kyle Shanahan wants to see from Jimmy Garoppolo is that he can protect himself that he has enough ability. Jimmy's not the most noble guy, but he really pretty good about moving around in the pocket and and then largely avoiding hits if he can't do that. Then it's Nick Mullins. And as you could tell on Sunday, and as you could tell from the final eight games of the 2018 season, there's no reason for the 40. Niners not have confidence in Nick Mullins. And so Garoppolo did not practice yesterday. I don't anticipate he'll practice today. And if he doesn't practise thes two days, you know when they're doing Wallens playing most again of is their that install that what you're feeling is as Then well. I just I don't see why Yeah, they would That's what it's looking force like. the Jimmy issue Garoppolo hasn't and put Garoppolo practiced out there Wednesday on or Sunday Thursday. night, So And typically, my those guess air would those be it air the 40 will be Niners, the same most sort quarterback of intense situation practices as we saw a week. Friday Sunday is more of ah, in the more metal of a walk and through style sort session, of look forward to so it like Washington play, Kyle Shanahan So if said it this is the week case, was that yeah, in yeah. order I mean, for he's Garoppolo just to play, Yeah, he would need to prove he's out on the practice you know what? I field think? that Why? he could move around Everybody and protect likes himself to watch on him that play bank up is because right it ankle, doesn't Obviously take too much so of a stretch It doesn't of the imagination look like that's gonna happen, or to at least picture if it crop load does return You to practice being there would be doing for that that? walk through Because he and I don't is know if that's going just to be enough to a convince Shanahan ordinary, or normal or the team's guy performance staff, so that let him back out is there. And exceptionally if you look at, focused you know well, like on what you said, he does. what what McMullen's But did last you week. know you could pass him on the street And and just the way he and you operates would have the offense killed there you that wouldn't there isn't give him a a whole second. lot Look. of drop off in terms You know of you passed there's a drop me off grapple in Tallinn, on obviously, the street but and there isn't you're a whole lot you're of tugging drop off at your wife's in terms of how arms Mullins that manages refocus the offense because and you run don't want things, to fall enough and the sidewalk, the team But believes he can you know, still be Nick productive. Melissa, So just I Every think the man 40 Niners Yusa. air taking a long term view. He really is, And we had him on the show Similar yesterday, to and he's just what they substance, did with George A likeable kill these and last very couple likely weeks now and that you and know they're saying, everything you about know, we could probably everything afford about him to is give and Garoppolo I look forward another to him week on Sunday. at least So before before before we get Teo getting just back a quick in the question mix. on When the Eagles, the this some schedule more starts to stiffen George up Kendall. in a Sure couple sounds weeks when sounds. you Assad's know they play the optimistic Rams and that he the Patriots he'd be out there and and boy the be Seahawks nice to see and him the again. Packers and all those Yeah, games I coming would think up so, You know, last I'm getting week Garoppolo. he did Healthy limited for that run practice, is probably more important, and that basically particularly consists given how of going the out Eagles there for have looked warm in these ups first and three weeks. individual drills That's not to say that and the Eagles no 11 can potentially on 11 upset work, the 40 Niners. And But yesterday they're it not was a full team go. that So I that's think kind is of is been the putting way that a 40 whole years lot have of approached fear in it the through 40 Niners three games right now, just is that because if a Of how guy they gets play in a the full first week three of weeks practice, and certainly he's their injury going situation. to play. I think they only had one If he's receiver limited on the active and doesn't roster get the practice full practice. today, He's not going to play which is sort of emblematic and of you how know so things far have gone on in the Philadelphia. injury reports. They're you Anybody know, 02 who's and listed one so as far, questionable so On a Friday has not played on the Sunday So My guess is that George Fiddle who was a full ago yesterday will not even appear on the injury report or the status report on Friday, when teams have to say You know out doubtful. Questionable. My guess is that we want even see George Skittles name on That list would be exciting to see. Well, especially is Jordan readout so they you know, we talked it. We talked to. Ah, Nick about Ross Dwell E. I mean, that's it doesn't yet another guy who? The Niners just whether it's Jeff Wilson, Nick Mullins or Ross Welly. I mean, that's that went against the Giants was just a triumph of the personnel department in the depth chart. It Wass in and it's been, You know, it's three years in the making, you know, Think about the team and 2017, especially the team in 2018 that had all the injuries and once they had to dip into the reserves, it was over. And you know whether it was you know those guys coming back and getting better. I mean, what it really is. It's a testament to how well the personnel department and the coaching staff and work together. The personnel Department of the coaching staff gives the personnel department the sketch of what they're looking for. The personnel department goes out and find the right guys. And in in the cases that you mentioned, some of those guys are all the guys you mentioned were undrafted rookies, you know, entered the league undrafted evening throw Emanuel mostly into that mixes well, and then it's up to the coaching staff to say Okay. Yeah, these are the traits we like. Now, let's let's refine them. Let's develop him. And AH, in the case of Mostly. He was cut as a rookie, comes back to the practice squad. Nick Mullins was cut two times as a rookie in his second year, so time's come back to the practice squad. Jeff Wilson's been cut comes back to the practice squad. I'm trying to think with dwell E. If he was on the practice squad, I kind of think he might have been But You know in that In that case, I mean, think about they drafted a guy, The Kaidan Smith from Stanford. And it's in ends up being rushed..

"Is the NFL. So everything starts and ends with the quarterback. But in this case that's a good conversation to have. But I was just saying to the guys a while ago. You know, last week, there was this thought leading into the game that Nick Mullins wasn't going to threaten downfield and then he comes out and right off the jump. He's hitting receivers on the second level. He's not drinking. He's not Duncan. He's not, captain. Check down heaps. He's looking for the guy that could get him positive yardage. And I believe you wrote about this that passes over 10 more yards. Moments was 10 to 15 for 169 yards. You know if he makes one or two more starts, I think that would be the extent of it, but in terms of his play and what that means going forward. You got a guy that's ready to operate this thing at its full capacity, not just be a just a caretaker out there. I don't think there's any question. Yeah, No, he's he knows the system and he made that great comment after the game against the Jets, he said. This is my fourth year. There are no excuses that he expects to play well. The 40. Niners expect him to play well, that that means the coaching staff and his team mates and I think the Giants went into this game, saying, Okay, let's let's stop the porting hours running game. We know that that's going to be done in a constant of what they're trying to do. Regardless of whose back there. Even if most starting Coleman are back there, they're still going to try to run the ball. And let's see what the small ones guy Khun Dio because I sure that even this coming week, you know that'll be kind of the thought process don't make make no more beat up, and I think the foreigners have a lot of confidence that If you do that, he'll beat you and the thing that kind of struck at kind of watching this game and GM and of the first half they dominated, but they didn't punch it in the end zone and at the end of the game for touchdown, when basically, I mean, that's that's what you would expect. If the 40 Niners had all of their players, and they were rolling 20 was a 27 point win, and to do that kind of Dominating performance That could have been a lot more than 28 had. They cashed in in the first half that had held up the plated Mullins. Sure, later in the game, he would've hit Ah, touchdown that came back because I think the defensive lineman greased up his helmet That's not called it out. Helmet just doesn't go flying off was a decisive, decisive win against a really bad team. But still a 27 point win in the NFL, regardless of who's playing, whom and and read, and when you take into consideration the number of backups and backups to backups, the 40 Niners had out there. It was just a really impressive Surgery. You know you Shanahan is just such a He's just a ruthless plate collar Me comes across so kind, nice and easy. No, he'll give you a thoughtful answer. And this and that, But then he is just So cut throat when he starts playing playing, you know, play calling. He forced the Giants to defend the full width of the field and clearly the tight end. Reid was a huge part of the game plan. And then when he went out dwelling You know became a huge part of the game plan. But he saw those huge bodies inside and said, You know what? I'm gonna I'm gonna make this team defend width of the field on we saw you can and makin and try to get to the edges and successfully do that. And it just really, really worked. I thought that was incredibly impressive. But I was saying to the guys I like the game plan of and he is funny because he said the opposite the post game, he said. I don't like long drives. To me long drives the 40 Niner. Defense is all right, you know, without me, even with the injuries, but they're better when they play 45 plays like they did in this game than they want are when they play 70. Six plays like they did in the Arizona game. I just think Ball control's the name of their game going forward. Yeah, And I think by the reason he says that it's because so many of his plays are are designed to take shots, and you know Lou in that game against the Jets, where they just came out, and the first play of the game is an 80 yard touchdown. You know, that's kind of how they draw it up. Assed faras. If everybody's accounted for if everybody makes the block and then most make somebody missed after Nate E R touchdown, Of course, it's Rarely going to be in a tr touchdown, because not every play is going to be executed at a level of profession, But yeah, he the way he builds his past plays and and even the run games. Uh, it's designed to Go the distance. And so that's probably why he's saying that is there doesn't necessarily want of 14 play 85 yard drive. He'd rather have. Ah, six play 80 hard drive, but Yeah, I think it's it's incumbent upon the defense to not be out there for all those snaps because you've got to get off the field on third downs, but I mean, they did about everything execution allies that they Could have wanted Teo. All right. Good stuff from Matty Naoko crew. COA's? Well, That's the rewind coming up next, on example of, unfortunately, why Sometimes the nice guys do finish last one classy coach one. "We were all having the conversation about fake crowd noise, No crowds. What do you pipe in? What do you not? Of all the sports in football, the one that's just going to sound the most bizarre. Without that in the background. I mean, Tim scream and feels great baby, and then you hear like an echo feels great baby feels great baby feels great. It's just That's going to be ah, that's going to be really, really difficult, Tio To stomach but at the same time if we get football at all, I think we will all we will take that Aaron Rodgers at the Celebrity golf tournament in Tahoe yesterday. I was like that that someone was like, What's the biggest question with regard to you know, everything that needs to be worked out for the football season is just like are we kind of have a season? That's that's the question. And by the way, all the other stuff that you're hearing about. I actually don't think it's a big deal at all. It will totally get worked out. In the NFL. We are not about to head into a baseball style labor disagreement between owners and players in the NFL won't happen. Not gonna happen. I promise you Ah! Will it delay the start of camp? That's possible just because there are a lot of items to go through, and let's be honest. Nobody's all that motivated to get to camp. Deadline's deadlines or what sort of decide What's gonna happen, and when and if the players were sitting there going, we don't want preseason games. Why would everyone be motivated to get all of this discussion done in time to get to camp for preseason games? When nobody wants any preseason games? Let's talk to Maddie Naoko about it. NBC Sports Bay Area Matt How worried about what's going on? Nothing too much. I'm doing well, How's everything there? Everything is cool. I was just saying, you know, all of this discussion about whether or not the two sides are going to agree could delay the start of camp. I don't think this is gonna look anything like what baseball did. And could there be some minor disagreements? Could it drag on a little bit, I guess, but I look at everything on the list for the NFL to figure out and I'm like they'll figure that out the they'll be fine, don't you think? You would hope so. But you know, in time their finances involved, and you know, the NFL is talking about putting a percentage of pretty large percentage of salaries and escrow. You're talking about. You know the NFL players not wanting you wanting their full money now or whenever they should get it. Ah, they want the guaranteed money to be exactly that guaranteed in case there are no games played guys who have guaranteed salaries. In some cases want that money? Uh, so I mean, there are some issues to work through. Not just not just financially, but also the working conditions. What precautions are are in play just how things were going to work. How testing's gonna work, so I think it's You know, I I guess deadlines always gonna spur action. And it certainly would appear like the end of this week is ah, deadline. Considering that training camp is set to begin the following week, with the least players coming in to their respective teams, So I do think there are issues that need to be worked out. But it doesn't appear, I guess along with what you're saying it doesn't appear a Ziff. There's such a huge difference of opinions. Unlike how baseball seemed to be for quite awhile, there that it would cause A complete shutdown of the NFL. It might delay it a little bit, but you know, we'll shut it down completely. I don't think that that will be the necessarily the stumbling block Maddie. I want to get to most heard and some other stuff with the 40 Niners but with the big news this morning, which is not surprising at all, but that the Washington team is now Finally admitting they will change their name. They haven't said What that new name is going to be. I wonder how far you think that this is going to go. Is this going to get to the two the Chiefs and and and what might happen there? Yeah, that's that's a good question. The thing about Washington. I mean, everybody's known that it's that was just so over the top of a racist name. So You know, I think that that was mean I why, that wasn't done no more than a decade ago. I mean, I I don't know. It seems to me that Ah, you know, there is you can have money involved in it because you're fans of the team are going to go out and buy even more merchandise. So I'm not sure why. That That decision wasn't made a long time ago. I guess just pride and not feeling just feeling like you know, the ownership there is in control and you're not going to tell me what to dio. But I don't know. I mean, I know that you know a lot of California high schools. High schools across the country have abandoned names of that of that sort. I don't know exactly. I haven't heard necessarily the hue and cry for some of the other team names to change. I mean, they're certainly been You know the Ah I guess the the insignia of the logo's that have Native American imagery. You know those I think, certainly need to G O some of the mascot cartoonish mascots, if you will, but I don't know that. It certainly doesn't seem like anything is a foot as faras getting the Kansas City to change its name. I wonder if it's more in the Braves in the in baseball have sort of already indicated this. I wonder if this is going to get more to fan behavior as opposed to imagery. And team names because the chief's Florida state the Braves, a lot of them do this. This shop, which I got itl I made a lot of us have been bugged by it for years. I got to think that's they gotta find a way for that to come to an end, don't you think? I would think so. And I think that you know, obviously the sound systems, you know, encourage it without music they're playing. And so that would be the first step. And I don't think you can. You can't ban a section of the crown from I'm doing it, but Ah, you know, bye. You don't have to encourage it either. And I think that is probably the next staff words with the you know the ending of The music that props everybody, Jack like lemmings and do the Tomahawk chop. Matty Naoko, NBC Sports Bay Area with us. All right. How do you think this moster thing plays out? Boy. I just don't see the 40 Niners budging. Maybe if if something happens down the road, but Yeah. They signed the Mostar to a three year deal just last year at this time, and I think they don't want to get in that situation there very much about precedent. You know, they always have been about your contractual precedent, and they have their way of doing contracts, and they have their way of Ah, you know, if if a player you're what a re negotiating a contract that's been side, But in this case, and it is a unique situation in the 40 Niners don't want to get put in that position where they set this precedent of you signed a three year contract. Can you play exceptionally well after year one. And now let's rip it up and give you a you know, 100% pay increase. I don't see them. Certainly They don't want to do that. Will they be forced into doing that? I mean, I think it's going to be a battle. It depends on how Determined. Raheem Mostert is and his agent Brett Tessler to see this thing through..

"I don't know the quote in front of me, but it was like We don't even know if we're going to activate Wentz on game days. That's how long he's got to go. We don't even know what we're going to do with this guy this year. Ah, pretty sure we could look back, and it's a pretty sure he started week one. I think he started week one. Four weeks after Doug Peterson was like, I don't know if we're going to activate the guy. This is another time honored sports tradition. You draft somebody, really. I you love everything about him, but then You A You don't want them to get cocky and B. You don't want to put too much pressure on him. So you go to the media and you're like, Yeah. I don't even know if we're going to see this guy this year. I don't even have his phone number. I don't even know where he lives. You know if we can figure all of that, out between now and the last week of the season, maybe he'll pop up and pinch it. Or something like that. Let me tell you something. Joey Barton's gonna play for the Giants this year. Joey Bart is going to play for the Giants this year. I don't know if he's playing next week. I'm pretty sure he's not. They've I think they've They've gone down that road already. With what Gabe Kapler Farhaan Society have said for sure like that. That's that's not the plan, and they're not going to do that big of an about face in Ah in 10 days. 10 days. By the way, 10 days cut a game seven days. There's an exhibition game. They're not going to do that kind of an about face and they're probably being truthful when they say there is some Development that still needs to happen. They're talking mostly about on the defense of side rather than the offensive side. He probably would already be one of the more advanced hitters. In the Giants lineup if he came up next week. But there is no way with everything we all just talked about. And everything were thinking and feeling right now there is no way That the Giants are going to play a 60 game season. This sort of funny sprint that that we don't even know if people are going to remember. We don't even know if they're going to finish. And Their longtime stalwart catcher, ops out Because he's adopting twins. Congrats again to Buster Posey and and his wife and now growing family. There's no way he's opting out. The Giants have this hopeful superstar in the making. Who plays that position. They've got a 60 game season. With very little pressure attached to it. Let's be honest. They're projected to be in last place, and I'm not sure anybody cares who's in first place. It doesn't matter who wins this thing. It doesn't really count. It's somewhere between exhibition and what we normally D'oh And they're going to take all of that all of those factors and no no fan spending money. So they don't have toe. Feel guilty about Oh, we're going with the youth movement, and these people are spending all this money. No fans in the stands is going to do all of that. And leave Joey playing practice in Sacramento. No chance. No chance, so I'll set the over under right now. Not 20 games. You could hit me with over or under. When we see Joey Barton love to hear what you think the Giants should do with this whole thing will get to some 40 Niners coming up as mentioned. Matty Naoko. It is right around the corner. And and there is some breaking news in the N B. A. And we've got to get to the Adrian Awards in a row ski thing because there's ah There's kind of a part of this that I would love to address, so all of that is on the table pop in London out all week. Mark Willard can be are one of 45 and six. State of the sports later. You're smart speaker is a radio. You here. Papa and London home. Just say your apple pod play KNBR.
