My colleague Jordan Morris is speaking with actor Richard Jenkins Jenkins Stars alongside Evan Rachel Wood in the new movie kajillions air. He's also the star of the new film the last shift where he plays a guy who's worked at a burger joint for almost four decades. Anyway let's get back into his conversation with Jordan Morris. You've made a couple of movies with people from the world of sketch comedy and Improv, which is different than the training you had when you're shooting a scene with like will ferrell. Can you tell that you and him have had very different kinds of training? No not really I mean it's when you're in a movie with will. It's like you you I, watch them you know I watched. Will John Riley. You know these guys are just there. In stoppable I mean and get guys like Adam, Scott, and he just it's just a whole other way of working. It's a it's a you know you if you come from the theater. You have you have the text and it's your job to fear it out and make it come to life. And you know movie that sect but sometimes, that's not what's required. It's required you find other things and and it teaches a freedom and don't make decisions you know. Coming to conclusions here let's just let's just let open this up and see where it goes. You Know Trust Yourself. You really have to trust yourself in and and with somebody like Adam McKay who directed stepbrothers you know there's you never feel you can even though you may say something so stupid you'd never feel that it's a problem or they're they're rolling their eyes. If they are, you don't see it. Really. It's a safe place to to to. TRY TO BE. To try, to have fun. And I think that's important with a movie like stepbrothers and working in that world you have to feel. Safe. Did it feel uncomfortable at first? Working on a movie where people are more loosey goose about the script? No no not really I mean you just you kind of marvel at it is what I was doing me. You know and you kind of watch them your Oh, I'm in this scene. Okay It's it's. It's amazing. It's an incredible process. and. Was it didn't take me long to to. Jump in there and. Have as much fun as I did we. To Mary Steenburgen I think we're having too much fun here. I comes across it really comes across in that movie. When I was a little boy I always wanted to be a dinosaur. I. Want to be torrential source rex anything in the world. I may arms short and I wrote in the backyard I chased the neighborhood cats and I growled night or are everybody knew me was afraid of me and then one day my dad said bobby, you're seventeen. It's time to throw childish things aside and I said Okay Pa but he didn't really say that he said stop being dinosaur and get a job but you know P- I thought to myself. Go to medical school of practice for a little while. I was the skill. Your human. You can never be a dinosaur. What's the point? Yeah the point is don't lose your dinosaur. In your in your other new movie that we're talking about today the last shift you play a fast food employee I was wondering if you ever personally worked in food service or anything that's kind of similar to you know a minimum wage fast food job I. I made pizzas when I was in high school Doco but it was it was really different because it was A. Mrs Back Nineteen Sixty four, sixty, three. And pizzas were just starting to become the big thing in. In. My town was university. So it was a place called beat Sevilla. It's still there actually just together. Still Got Great Pizza But it was a lot of my friends worked there too. So it was kind of hang out. So it was..

Yeah Now, that sounds like something that would cause a lot of trouble on Tumbler Yeah Oh. Yeah. Sure. You know you would think and yet the crossover for street fighter fandom and people who call things on Tumbler is not wide. That's A. Tiny tiny overlapping the Ven Diagram on the famous acronym AKA BECO-, which is all cops are bad except Changli. Actually out there saying that I think most people are forgetting. Because, she is a cop in a world where magic is real and also there's like an international fighting ring where people who can use magic and variety of fighting styles show up in each other's asses. "What were your best memories of that? Time was the best part about that. I you know eight nine years of your adult time the navy. Yeah well. There was a certain validation for me at that time. If you were black a you know you you expect to be a steward or something. You know the guys that served the officers you know like you see in the movie stars so there was a chance to prove yourself that you could. You could do do technical things. I remember arriving in Pensacola Florida. When I was eighteen years old and having to overcome the perception that you weren't smart enough to be an aircraft mechanic. I mean what kind of genius does it take to change some spark plugs or something. So there was the noble pursuit of trying to change perceptions. You see you gotta remember You know there was the sixties DNC. What's going on in Iran now with the street stuff? Well when I was young. That was my reality. If I went to Birmingham the you'd have to go unity. You know you know you didn't even need to go very far. That was my time in life. Where you were trying to change perceptions when you got out of the Navy you Held a sort of variety of of regular guy type jobs the kind of jobs that people pulled when they get out of the service for a while When did it occur to you to become a musician while when I got out of the Navy? The my goal was to do something else. Good goal and I knew from you know you. You don't when you have a talent like that you know you have it when you're five years old. It's just getting to it. You know it's getting around to your about thirty when you made your first demos right Somewhere You know a probably older than that you know. So it's like you add. Football Games trump. Okay figure on Sunday. Maybe there's twenty forty million guys watching football game. A thousand of them think they could or maybe ten thousand of them think that if they got the chance they could play quarterback three of them probably could so I was one of those guys it was. You know living run. I saw these You know I think I could do that. slyke becoming playboy centerfold. I have run into people who have expressed a desire to be in playboy who it's unfortunate because they just say cute you know to so so in the process and as big funnel you got all these people and it's hard to do you know to get into business like this first of all you gotTa have the talent and then you gotta figure out the terrain you know. What's the path to it? I'm from Slab Fork West Virginia so I managed to figure this out. And you know through some luck and some and some conniving or whatever. The question you get asked most often is. How'd you get started? You know if if I knew how to write the book on how to get into Showbiz. I wouldn't have time to talk to you. I'd be too busy working on my book that I could sell. A lot of books will hear more from the late. Bill withers after the break. Stay with us. It's Bullseye for maximum dot org and NPR. "On and that was pretty safe one too. Yeah like wait time. Yeah we'll so okay. So January twenty nineteen. Some people still were hanging onto the idea that next year we might arrive the fall. Twenty nine that fall I had been saying for a year before that like since two thousand eight hundred ninety. been saying no alternative to any based on all the chatter. I'm hearing Green So my dot. Yeah it was right about that. But that was the inside info part so I wasn't GonNa like predict that because that would have been based on insane Info and our rule is we can't make predictions inside Info so my thought process was. I don't even think Sony is GonNa Tease it this year. I think they're going to wait and just do a full-on blow out but instead they do the opposite thing where they did this trip. Feed of information like I a wired magazine Article Than a second wired magazine article and then a blog post. That was like it's called the playstation five. It's been very strange very strange marketing strategy and there was that and don't forget the out of the game awards for that whatever game that Fighting reading yeah their first announced. PS Five game was very strange anyway. So that's an Oh that is a big fail number. Five Microsoft will buy a major company not just a mid tier studio but something that says that makes us all say. Wow that did not happen. And it's south face that any of their acquisitions this year. Where was it? I feel like that was kind of surprised because I know people there and like that studio so I I guess I said wow I was like wow but it was but I said I specifically said not just another like Mariah studio. We're imagining like something. Like a major tech company. Yeah I was imagining Capcom like at Capcom. Acquisition those zero six Konami will announce a new silent hill game. Just to fuck with Zima. That did not what happened. Number seven Microsoft will bring game pass to a non Microsoft Platform. They did bring into PC. But I think it's like windows windows the Microsoft Platform. Although I will say Phil Spencer did say like we WANNA bring game pass to everything so it seems like this will happen. It just didn't happen. So it does not count writing the number eight Lucasfilm will announce Star Wars Games are no longer exclusive to. EA that to not happen. I'm sure it will at some point. Or maybe they have to sit through this contract. Who knows number nine the PC flush enhanced edition of Red did too will include a remake of red dead one? This would have been so cool. Great well well because remember. Our theory was because the two has the entire map of red did one for and like barely uses it was that they were set. My theory was that they're setting up for for a remake. But nope. Oh yeah number. Ten fantasy sixteen will be announced. Nope I still think that will happen. I still think that will happen this year. But Kirk you and I both so if it was being you again. Yeah if it was just a due to a state arguing for an hour about that breath of the wild thing and craigslist. Would've what an especially amazing because that was a twenty eighteen prediction of Jason's that is definitely been contentious episode. That would have broken up the band. Probably good that your body Mattie give us your prediction of Oi okay. Well my first first one is that Super Smash Brothers Melee is not going to be on the main stage. Even by fan submitted. Vote and I was right about this okay so you get away with this. But we didn't really really tried to stop me about this one but it was it was we were in the middle of the recording the episode and Kirk and I were both like wait a EH pretty easy. I know. Listen I was new at this. I will give you the way Jason. We're being kind to me. Yeah I was relatively new to the show Blah Blah Blah. Let's see let's see how the rest goes sure. Got Any the second one I would say was not actually obvious. I predicted did we not see a reveal of any metric prime for gameplay. This actually was shot in the dark for me and I shouldn't have won this but did because I want to do to like absurd circumstance and I didn't have any inside Info Retro Games or any of that other stuff at all. I just predicted it based on nothing really. So yeah. That's another one for you tad. That's a solid win three. This one is very funny then. We'll continue to not stream with a woman so I lost this one. You Good Ninja himself. Got Too cocky and tweeted at Lady Gaga thereby instigating or instigating the debate around the fact that he is never streamed with a woman on his own channel and so he did stream with Rachel Hoffstetter. Who goes by Valkyrie on twitch and that happened it's a done deal he's Settled the debate. He's done it. Prediction failed the fourth one. Capcom will announce DLC fighter packer updated marvel versus Capcom. Infinite infinite thing that will include at least one of the Fox Property X.. Men Marvel characters no dead this game. mm-hmm is dead. I don't know why I thought this was going to happen. It did not happen at all. That's five Bantainam Co will launch an actual World Tournament Tournament series result caliber. This did not happen. I really thought it would. It was announced on December. Second that they will do this in twenty twenty. I should've thought last year they weren't going to do it because you guys remember last year. How Band Dynamic Co is Kinda shifting the bed with its Dragon Ball fighters tournaments and like? were making fun of them for that and being like. Why are they doing doing this? But I still made this prediction anyway about them. Because I don't know I was wildly optimistic but anyway it didn't happen. Six Dixie Kong on Raymond and Banjo Kazoo. He will not be dismantled. I wait how many of them were added the smash just Banjo just being okay. Okay if I think part of why added Banjo to the list was because I was trying to make it more fair and like included character who had actually seemed fairly likely would be added so oh that's a no seven bayoneted three. We'll have a beyond say Escott drop and it's out today this. This was definitely hard. This is this this is a true. That's not true. And we still don't have banded a three so I could make this prediction again but I I don't know it's probably just a dream. Eight Valve Valve will announce a game. I would say got this absolutely and this wouldn't even be like. This is even a question. This is a true prediction that came. What if I had said valve will announce a half-life game like that would have been cocky as hell and I still would have done it like I feel like maybe made a similar prediction a couple of years ago when they announced? I it might have been artifact. Yeah and it was. I think I got it right but it was like a much more bitter sweet like. Yeah okay fine you can have it for the dumb card game but this is like fully announced like half life game like this one it. I just thought maybe they would cooled number. Nine Nintendo will announce a peach game. This didn't happen. I'm sad I'm waiting waiting. I'm waiting for the redemption of Princess. Speech character still waiting number ten. Another one you guys shouldn't have let me do. No more overwatch. Characters will be revealed to be Queen in two thousand nineteen. Of course I got. Massive Corporation will continue to play it safe died that was. They're never going to announce anymore tracer and soldiers. Tony Six. They're done and done they've they've done it done with that now anyway. Those has been ticked. Yes both check boxes. They did a man and a woman and the game is complete. The diversity completed diversity. What is that Mattie? Five four four. Yes okay. So the winner is Mattie Myers which means we will all be playing Kirby Planet robot for the Nintendo Robot. I Coroda Tova Perot. It's Kirby Planet Robot. I actually genuinely sorry that you guys have to find your your three D. S.'s. Like charge them and put this idea. I guess game and twenty twenty is like what the fuck that Lake Collector's edition majorities mass three s used for anything and so. I'm happy to get it out to play a Kirby game. Excuse to talk about it. Mattie you might WanNa replay it just at least a bit to get your refresh refresh. And so what we'll do is we'll pick it a day to talk about it. We'll pick a date when we can just like dive into it. And congratulations to maddy winning. Wait ago You did it your first year for Dixon's that was also like your first or second episodes since joining the I know this. I'm now that you're more comfortable. Well now that you're like an established part of the show this time we're not GonNa let you wait you like we all like purposefully embrace worse and worse predictions every year exactly and then. I tried to follow this team. Spirit this year and then things that I don't really think are going to how did so. I thought that it would be. I think you guys agree. I thought it would be fun to add. Rule that kind of helps make them harder and just a better road and comes to predictions which his no more will not prediction so like no more Sony will not announce the PS five like nature will not stream the stream. The women like domer- will nots for this area so once again again. Just say over the rules and we'll start getting into our twenty twenty predictions No insight in phone no super obvious things no delays or anything just completely off the table yet. Yeah and I think we made a rule also that like you can't say this game will be a disappointment. Subjective objective. Yeah I think I had had a couple of this game will be fine. Wasn't that prediction. We'll just five Rixon was this game.

"It's a movie about a true story of a woman Leigh Israel who was a biographer and eighty and ninety s who then became this scammer who started making fake versions of letters from literary figures figures and then selling them to collectors as real and make money yeah it's cool so it starts Melissa McCarthy and it's like a a serious issue. It's a funny movie but it's pretty serious and she was nominated for much of a words for these amazing that she's an amazing actor and it takes place man man. It's it's a really dour movie. It's very kind of these. People are just kind of bad people. She's a really just kind of spent exhausted pissed off lady lady who just is mad about life and things just aren't going well. She makes friends with this guy named Jack Hawke who is played by actor named Richard Grant who I didn't know who's also just this kind and a very sour person and the two of them form this unlikely kind of friendship kind of you know they don't like each other because they don't really like people both kind of misanthrope and start this really blundering wondering scanning operation so it's this kind of a character study of just this woman who exists at this certain period of time in the literary world of New York which is not. That's something that I know a whole lot about. It doesn't sound very pleasant at all like this sounds fascinating to me. Movie is like I really liked it and founded. It's a fun story. It's not like it's like a peppy fun. Movie Stars like Pretty Lights and no one's dying or anything like that. There's not it's not like a high mistakes drama. It's more just this character story but a few things that I thought were interesting about it. I guess the way that it makes the nineties like very early. Nineties look is just not appealing at all. It doesn't doesn't Romanticize it it. Just everything just seems Kinda. Shitty like things don't really work. New York too seems kind of dirty. I guess New York is kind of dirty clothes. Just look awful. Everybody doesn't look look good in the clothes that they're wearing. It's all these weird sweaters suits that don't fit men and stuff and it's just like that's that's what we were doing baggy clothes in. That's yeah it definitely definitely was fashion with just not really happening and there's a lot of like I feel like if you're really into like literature and literary figures and writers you'll. There's probably a lot of jokes that I didn't didn't quite get because as much as I'm like like reading books I also you know I'm not like a huge literature about actually on last week's episode I totally feel like I said that Emily Dickenson row pride and prejudice someone like made fun of me for that. I was reading pride and prejudice Emily Dickinson. I do want to say for the Jane Austen. Jane Austen wrote Pride Pride and prejudice but anyways so there's actually some pretty funny Tom Clancy jokes in this because this is like Tom. Clancy is taking off music the worst writer everybody's super successful but anyways I liked it it it was it was nice to watch a movie like that kind of abrasive character study movie that isn't a superhero movie or like endless TV show but it was just kind of this thing about this lady that I didn't know anything about and it does make me read her book because the book Kenya ever forgive me is written by the Real Li is tells the real school yeah so so so pretty cool movie and is my recognition for that. So why don't we let's wrap things up with a music. I've got a pretty cool music. Pick for for this week so a listener strong listener emailed me. I just get recommendations for music and I really do try to check them out because so often when someone sends me Music Recommendation Nation I'm like I don't know who this is and just look it up on apple music and I'm like okay this person's amazing and that's what happened in this case so this is a singer named Natalie Press and and this is from her twenty eighteen album the future in the past which is a dope album and Eric Schmidt everyone chicken out the song's called. Oh my and I'll I'll play a link aura play a clip of it. Now thanks to me so she's super cool. It's this man she has. This like Erykah. Badu meets like Hannah huckleberry meets. I Dunno almost like talking heads. There's so many different cool like five going on site. Sarah usually liked it. I think I'm going to check out this album. You always have good good rex. Yeah I feel like I feel like everyone who gets credit for making a music. Recommendation actually usually does that music mission to somebody else like this is this is a shadow takebe. WHO's a listener a strong seventy this email about this and I did a whole thing on this and like the recent Q. and A. Episode on her song because he asked me about it and I feel like that happens a lot and that's the magic of music recommendations now everybody can recommend Natalie press to their friends and they can seem really cool doing that exactly they'll be like that was such a great recommendation admits she could help them but it is good? It's called the future in the past and I recommend people checking out cool all right well. That's another another episode on the books. We've done we will be. We'll be back next week. We'll see how much destiny I play in the meantime for that matter going to check it out. That's true man. This'll be exciting. Next week is going to be exciting destiny to the PODCAST Graig here we go until then Mattie. I will see you in a week by Kotoka. split-screen isn't official PODCAST BROADCAST COCOON DOT COM. "And welcome back to another episode of Kotoka split-screen. We are here. It's gonna be eat three. I'm so frigging pumped, and I'm here of my two colleagues Kirk Hamilton who's not colleague, but is it coz scream colleague accounts. Hello Matty, and my other colleague, who's a real colleague Jason Shire. What's up Jason? Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello happy three happy pre three week. I don't even think I said my own name, which is Mattie Myers true. And it is your name he three. So, so a couple notes before we get into the show a couple of three notes this week we are going to be making some predictions guesses expectations. Maybe even a couple of scoops next week, we will be coming at you on Tuesday, right after all, the I ready for the Nintendo press conference to recap all the Nintendo all the press conferences, not just the Nintendo only Nintendo, we're leaving. We're used to acknowledge that any other press conferences, exist. And then, and I will be doing interviews from the show, which will be all up in your split-screen feed all throughout the week. So get ready for split screen overload next week also should say have front happy pride month to all of you out there who are celebrating or not celebrating or whatever. It's important as three there's almost identical in scope and import, I would say, you know the my favorite thing about pride month. This isn't my favorite thing. I think I love about pride month is the Kentucky logo changes to that amazing looking rainbow. It didn't always do that. That was doing last year and wonderful and looks. Awesome. And also, I feel like if it if even I was thinking about this a lot this weekend about, how like it might seem so insignificant to people or even like pandering to people. But imagine if you will the one attack reader out there, who's like a struggling, I'll teen or even adults who feels a little bit more welcome because of that private. We do it for them. We do it for that person. We do it for them. Although it's also just for us. I, I like doing it. I think that's why it originally happened was just because I was like, I think it'd be cool, if the Kentucky logo was a rainbow, and if we wrote some articles during pride month that was my last year and if. Other people enjoy it. Then that's really awesome to. It's a multiple benefit unaware. No, I don't care. What you're saying. And yeah, I agree. I think it looks awesome. Also, I liked it makes the icon, the bookmark on my phone. Look really good. It's just like a great. It's just beautiful looking. And so it's great on multiple levels. So everybody could talk has just the right number of letters for the rainbow. It's really great. It's a match made in heaven, any e three also exists. I have I have a minor update on. You know, we've been talking about this privacy stuff in data stuff. I don't know about the tooth now that we've been talking about it. I've just been seeing stuff in the news everywhere. Apples announcing all this stuff, there's all kinds of articles, I'm not gonna recap any of that. But tons of news related to privacy that I'm just much more aware of now. It's been nice. But one thing that I've been doing since last week is I have been using Firefox cts and duck duck. Go instead of Google, my search engine cool. And it's been fine so far. I it's not fire foxes a good browser seems like pretty much the same as Chroma still have chrome to use for things like, you know, apps that can only use chrome but so far I have. Not really missed it at all. And duck go is basically, good to this is a search engine that specifically doesn't track your data from your searches or sell them to anybody or anything like that, and, yeah, it's been okay. It's not as powerful as Google and there have been times where I'm trying to find a thing. And then I'll go Google it. You know on using Google. There'll be way better as all. So clearly, Google is more powerful because it's more widely used and they probably just have access to more data..

Pick of the week. Let's head it. Welcome back to another upset of Kotoka split-screen. I'm Mattie Myers. And I'm also joined by my co host Kirk Hamilton. Hello kirk. Hello, matty. And you know, what we're also joined fi Jason schreier. What's up Jason? Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello here. We did it. Another another week to see the two of your smiling faces Jason your faces slightly obscured by your microphone, I'm assuming that your smile. Yeah. Always. Smile. We before you jump in video game talk. I see in the show notes here that you wrote the following. I'm just going to read what you wrote which is cable management, baby. An exciting day for Kirk his new elaborate on sure those are two separate things actually, oh, I will begin by saying links because like. Linked able. Entire day right engine cables, a very well managed cable. No, I just wanted to say that I'm feeling pretty good because I managed all the cables in my home office, aka home recording studio, which if you're in a home occurred in studio specific, Mike up, some drums, you get a lot of cables everywhere, and it it kind of I've always had a pretty complicated cable situation under my desk. But I got in there. I pulled a bunch of stuff out it's sort of like weeding when you like we'd the front of whatever somewhere, and you come up with this huge amount of weeds that just were in there. And it's kind of a nice feeling kind of wind up with a big pile of cables. Pull them all out. I like us some twists ties and put the cables together. Find some weed. I did not find any we'd just cable just metaphorical weeds. And so that felt very good. And now my cables very organized, which also feels very good. So that's different thing. Exciting day for Kirk. Yes. Exciting day for Kirk is today at long last is the day that I can change my PlayStation network account. Excited about it. What are you going to change it to the changes people? I'm not going to say on this show because I might have to get a variant of it. I think this some people could probably guess, but I won't we're not gonna guess I'm gonna pro I'll probably to eat what I change it to talk about next week. It's not live in the in North America yet, I've been sort of like refreshing the page to see when it goes live because I'm very excited to do it as people who listen to this show, and or followed my work when I was writing for Kentucky. I talked quite a bit about my terrible name and. What it is. And why it is that deep I'll tell one more time since it won't be my name for much longer. It is I DP L underscore M A L, which are the first initials of the modes of the major scale, I only Dorian Frisian etcetera. And yeah. Real bad, real bad. Learn for twenty finally yes, yes. Something much more dignified, and it will be honest that Don Lord for twenty is. I think more dignifies terrible because it's trying less hard. It's just the the major scale thing is trying so hard on lorries in some ways. Yeah. Maybe like went on Lord, really meant. You're trying to tell people that you were a dengue Lord, then you were trying hard. But I think Vercelli right at this point..

"And then the people they play with and other people in their lives, and it's really really cool, and it just more than almost anything I've ever seen as a couple of movies that are out there too that actually like were made by jazz musicians and and capture it in jazz, totally legit. And the whole thing is real the only thing about on this a little not legitimate. How good they are really really good at jazz. I've never heard a fifteen year old. That's that could Chas. But but so the, but whatever it's more fun to watch really good jazz players and the show is great. And this song plays a really important role. It's the name each episode is named for jazz. Tune the first episode is called Monan, and it starts as great scene where the drummer is sort of showing the piano player, and he's in the piano players like, no, no, that's not how you play the piano part. He plays it. There's a whole discussion about swing and he's like you're not swinging. Then you're not doing it. And then the song keeps coming up through. The show throughout the season. And they're just a couple of really important kind of character moments built around that peon apart in then playing it together, and like a couple of really cool part. So I liked that that this song is this kind of also this sort of Lynch pin for this really really good anime that I hope people watch on Hulu and crunchy roll. I think you can it's really easy to find it. So that's cool to song is great fun to talk about anime is also really good, and yeah, those are my knees related recommendations for this week. Nice. Thank you for that. And I think that is it for this week's show we will be back next week same bat place same bat channel now. Same bat time there you get it wrong. O'shane's is same time. "I wanna I want it so burly anyway, the point of that is coming to PC and MAC which thank God. Because then I can play it on back. But I don't know if it's coming to switch tell good I just know that I want it was gonna say, let's build sick gaming PC's with lots of colorful lights. No, no. But I support you what if you wanted to gaming chair where would I put it Chelsea? I don't know, man. Ask yourself New York. I don't ever been to Europe New York. New York City, baby. Somewhere to have always wanted a gaming chair. But I have no where would put it not a gaming PC gaming chair. Well, presumably by how chair of the P C God, I really need a gaming PC, which I will probably be money idea. Yes. Everyone out crowd fun gaming PC's for us. No. You make a gaming chair that works like a pop socket? So you can just like extend the chair up and then push the chair down and folded over and story chair put down. I'm out. Nope. It seriously. I have sat in those chairs like at Pax east since stuff. And I was like, oh, so such good lumbar that I am not getting right now on just over on Kotok. Oh, Mattie Myers reviewed one of them. And she is like this is gonna be ridiculous. And then she got it. And it was like, oh, yeah. There's a couple of share ugly. But good. I feel the same way about the gaming glasses because they are so ugly. Yeah. But they actually kinda were what do those honors gunners because they block out like day block out certain types of light. It makes it easier screen. I found the very useful. But. So you still use them? I haven't used them in a little while. But I used to a lot more, and it was like, incredibly helpful. Oh, but all I just felt kinda dumb. And I didn't wanna do. I would like I've only using these the privacies in my home. Yeah. I mean, that's I think of people with gaming chairs for Christ's sake. I mean. Gaming chair and my gunners on the subway. I just set up. Right. You can't sit on the subway bed. Oh my game. You should I have seen people. I'm not kidding. Like it was. It was rush hour. Subway. Someone comes in at the Bedford avenue. Stop. Okay. For people who are listening from New York. Okay. Yes. I'm scratching my face up right context of very busy place. Puts down to chairs. What's like, no real? Chairs. Okay, puts them down doesn't even stack. Them puts them down in the middle dozen, even it's not it's not like this person's with like a bunch of people. This loan asked person with their to ask chairs taken up room on the you don't bring chairs on the subway. Did they sit in either of them? You know, what I don't think? So wait. No, wait. Yes. Okay. Okay. Wait there three chairs there were three chairs and this man sat down in one. And actually, I think there was a person with him. The other person's sacked out of the in the second one and the third one was just open. Why? Where were they better ways e y OC people bring your own chairs to the crowded subway him this everyone off here's my pet peeve. When there is an empty seat and someone is standing in front of it. And sitting they are taking up more stuff space. If you sit down there's more space to just sit in that seat than you have to like move. Sometimes I'll be like across the the car, and there's a bunch of people between me on them. So I can't like gets to sit down and nobody around apparently wants to sit and it's like crazy year making life, heart valuable, stand up and have blood flow into your leg. How dare you? It's. It is. You're just letting that seat goad, you know, how precious that. But reiterate why the hell would bring two big ass chair and not even gaming them. Not even game. They weren't long chairs, and they weren't gaming chairs so disqualified room chairs. Yeah. They were dining room chairs was offensive. Why wouldn't take frigging lift with those? Afford those fancy ass dining church, you couldn't afford what kicked off the street, and it was free trash take left's you save money. Then you walk with that free trash. This is New York..

And we are also joined of course, by the one in also only Kirk Hamilton. Hey, Kirk what's up? Hello. Hello to both of us. Very nice. All here. Other than Kirk Hamilton's twin rather sh- Milton. Yes. But that's a different person technically, they may be genetically identical. It's actually Dirk Hamilton. It is the noted singer songwriter, Dirk Hamilton who is a real person, and is my evil twin? Wow. We're going to like get a double Bill, and then we will have to like do a saxophone battle on stage or something. Singer songwriter named Matty Myers as well. But she moved to the UK for a while. I think we're well shot of. There was a period of time. When we were we were to proximate, these guys think that Derrick Hamilton has a podcast called jacked tracks Jack's tracks with Dirk Milton. I hope that he does. Now, if Dirk if you're listening to this go right into good. I feel like Dirk Hamilton and anti Mattie Myers should do a show together like a competing, anti-matter pun. Of course, I played a little base on this one. Which was fun. I'm not that good of a bass player. There's an incredible base hook in that song. Yeah. Man. "And we're back for another episode of Kotoka split screen. I am brand spanking new co host Mattie Myers, and I'm joined perhaps as always by other co host Jason Trier. Hello, matty. Hey, jason. And guess what? I'm also joined perhaps as always by other other co host Kirk Hamilton, you sure are. Hello. Matty, it's nice to see you today since necessarily both. Yeah. Three days at St. sec-. Even though Kirk you have some news that you have to share with all of our listeners out there. I do I do some news to share. So your listeners may have seen this news on Kentucky dot com. And I will preface this news by saying that nothing about split-screen is changing. And I am staying as a co host and producer one big thing is changing. Yeah. Live in Manny. Nothing further is changing that changed last week. Nothing further is changing related to my announcement. Which is that I am leaving Kotoka at the end of the year as a fulltime staff. I'm excited about it. But I understand I understand why people then trumpet call. I get. Yes. I gotta go. I gotta go play the oboe. This e is calling Kirk is leaving. That would be great. I've got some some shipping manifests to go fulfill. No, I'm I'm leaving talk you as a fulltime writer and staying on as a host of split-screen. This is something I've been planning for quite some time. And kind of always knew that I would eventually do. But just never I don't know. Like, they're kept being a reason not to. But you know, I was a musician and a private in a previous life. I'm sure a lot of people know that. And that was always something that I wanted to do with my life, and I went to school for that. And studied that into that for a long time, and then sort of wound up what the hell I'm gonna write about video games for money. I guess and then that just kept going going and getting bigger and more. Between those interests for people there is. Yeah, it's not the most games are basically music, and Chris Dahlen write something about that of Kirk Hamilton actually like that several times I was just trying to as just trying to bait. That is one of my fundamental sort of of understanding games anyways. Yes. So I am I like announced this an hour ago. We record this. I'm sort of going to be a little bit at loose ends because I'm very caffeinated and have been, you know, getting ready to announce this obviously telling about it and stuff, but it's a major move in my life. I'm moving on. I'm going to be doing music full time. I have a bunch of musical projects to be doing. I'm very excited about also keeping myself open to just whatever may come yet. Anyone out there wants to hire Kirk to do music for them. They should hit them up. They I mean, I am. I am happy to talk about that. If anyone wants to and you know, I'll be doing strong songs my new game or my new music podcasts. She game podcast. I think it's that now because we were talking about how games and music are the. And so, you know, it's kind of. So I'm all mixed. Let's the final boss of beyond phase of a single eighties. The final boss is actually also beyond say, but it Sasha. Here's I was going to say the final boss is getting a man to commit to you finally. But. Right. Anyway, I'm excited. We don't have to go talk about it forever. It's it's wild. This is like the biggest shift of maybe ever made in my professional career. I am nervous about it. But also very excited, and it's mental to hear from people that I've heard from so far that just said they liked my writing, and I don't know that's been a little overwhelming. But really cool. I'm feeling a lot of feelings. Well, of course, you'll still doing the pocket. So you'll be like updating us as time goes on. We'll talk about your life and your like newfound born again. Resisting career? Yeah. I'm sure I'm sure we'll talk about that too. I'll still be playing games and this'll be my main outlet for like games thoughts. So I'm going to be just saving all my thoughts for the podcast each week. So that'll be funny guys left to deal with me coming to be like, okay. Yeah. So. We're talking to thirty minutes by Kirk gambles. Get ready for a monologue..

"There's the obvious parallel here where people created all of these theories about what characters they thought we're going to be in it and somebody like basically told everyone by creating this very convincing fake people were so let down by the smash an ounce mints, and the Parana plan is a door -able and everybody hates them because they wanted to. But then that's like the same kind of weird. Sad anger that people have about on phones where they're like. Well, we were expecting one thing. Based on either theories, we had one hundred comment reset era thread, or any number of other just logic. Like, yeah. Of course, the four is going to be the next thing. Right. Like, sure. But it just creates the problem of people being so excited about what they think is coming next. And then that's not the thing. Maybe that's why there's so much rage and video game culture, there definitely some some through lines. I find I think we need more rage. I say keep it up keep up the rage. Mattie myers. Keep it up need more rage. All right on that. No. And then we are going to get into some off topic discussion, including kirks music pick of the week. So let's take. Hi, I'm Madeline Davies host of jazz avows dirt cast, Dirk cast digs deep on the shallow industry of celebrity gossip giving you an inside look at how famous people publicists tabloids and even Scientology come together to create the celebrity news you love to hate. I saw criminal activity and even one death that were covered up in order to protect the church. You can find the show on apple podcasts. NPR one wherever else you get your podcasts. And we are back. It is time to conclude the show by talking about some off topic things Mattie, you are still here. But I'm actually going to throw it to Kirk for some quick off topic talk before we close things off so Kirk what are you watching playing read or not playing what are you watching reading don't? You dare talk about video. Absolutely nuts off topic. And that it's fucking it. Okay. Let me go quickly through some things finished the first season of the chilling adventures of Sabrina on net. Flicks. Great pretty mixed on it overall. I think I mentioned that last week when I'd watched half of it that it sorta start strong, and then becomes of very much TV show. My overall thought so this is obviously Sabrina from the Archie verse. There was already one TV show about Sabrina the teenage witch this is a sort of much darker, but still generally TV friendly remake just sort of has some more legit horror and gore in it, and is kind of a mix of fun on frustrating thought it I think that Netflix has sort of established in new style of show that stranger things embodies where it's feels like you're watching a movie and less like you're watching TV show. This feels much more like just a TV show. It just has a lot of the same conventions as show like Buffy, which clearly is very very inspired by things like oh, something bad is happening at the school. Because of course, it is. Let's all. Go to the school like oh. And now we have to go to our kitchen because we have these two sets. And we're always on the same two sets that you feel like it would be better. If you were watching it week to week instead of bending it. No, it would have the same problems. So the problems that it has it's and it's very fun. I mean, we had a good time. The finale actually, kind of is pretty good. I'll probably watch the next season fun enough. But the problems that has a really lower problems it has problems with its own mythos, and that overtime started to really bug me..

"Back. We are still here with Mattie Myers. Hello, matty. Hey, I'm still here. Many. Are you ready to talk about the news? I guess so. It's not as fun as talking about. Go back to that. Besides to the president turn the past on. This is an interesting news story that probably like should've been relegated to like forty fifty years ago. Where it belongs because Nintendo as it turns out had been showing off the new smash game last week during its direct. And then the treehouse livestream afterwards and in their footage people discovered that Mr. game and watch his little black blob character looks like dude is from way back in the day. He actually turned into this native American caricature, and he would wear like he had a feather and Tomahawk and stuff, and it was just for like a second one of his moves, and this is really strange first of all because it's really offensive catcher. But second of all because Mr. game and watch has been in previous games, but never actually done that they actually removed it because it's a throwback to an old game. Like an old mini game. He was in where he where you would actually like be fighting off native American invaders as a cowboy, but but it had been removed for not only for a port of that game, which was called fire attack. But also for previous match games. He's been in a couple of their previous mash games, and he to not do that move. So after some controversy this morning intendo said that it was removing that imagery from smash. So, yeah, I'm curious to hear you what you guys think. Manny. Why don't we start with you? Do you? Did you see that imagery? And do you feel like that was did that strike you as like black face ask as the type of thing that should really be kept in the past. Yeah. I. Shocking for me. They should take. It wouldn't be weird. If I was like, I don't know guys. I I love. Got complicated. Thoughts about racist. Very open and shut thoughts on it. Which is I don't even fully understand. How it made it into this promotion, especially given Nintendo's quote that they gave to us about how they're sincerely apologizing. This change was not noticed in our marketing material. And I'm like really didn't notice it. It's very strange to me. But yeah, okay. Yeah. Didn't notice that artist was designing this for your game and put it into this. Yeah. Sorry, I said a Tomahawk before. But he's actually holding a torch and just has a feather coming out of the back of his head. So it's not the imagery that it is. Yeah. Pretty pretty open and shut case. I don't think that many people than like the gamer gate crowd, anti S J W crowd who think that people are being sensitive would complain about this Kirk any thoughts. Not really I mean, it's the right response at least and I'm shared your feeling. Matty, it's weird that it was in there. It seems like maybe one of those things at the disconnect between intendo in Japan and intend to America, given the jets. Making it. They may not have the same awareness or sensitivities those sorts of things. So that could be how it happens not excusing, obviously. But just saying that that's how that kind of thing can sometimes happen, and yeah, I mean, you know, it'd be cool. If more people do this kind of thing like it'd be cool if the Washington Redskins weren't called the Washington Redskins. I think there are a lot of it's a good response. So I'd love to see more of that. That's my main. I actually kept thinking about that as playing red dead and they use the word Redskins as a racial epithet, which it end, it's a slur. And I keep thinking I cannot believe that in two thousand eighteen there's a professional sports Washington Redskins. It's hard to believe that it's still the case. Yeah. "Talk your news editor Jason schreier. Hello Jason Kirk. It is good to back fern other week. It is nice to see you too. We are also joined by another host guest host Mattie Myers. Hello, matty. I may let everyone down, but it's not going to be this one this really blow away. It's going to be perfect. All right. Why don't we jump right in? So we have a lot to talk about today. A lot of interesting news a lot of crazy controversies. But first we are going to talk about some of the games that we have been playing, and I want to start my throwing it's a you Maddie as our guest of the week, usually go, I also because your main game is the oldest of the gains that we're going to talk about actually, no, maybe not the oldest. But definitely the one that. Now a lot of people are playing right now. So Matty, what are you playing? What is your main focus at the moment? My main focus at the moment is still assassin's creed origins, which I talked about on this very show not so long ago because I had finally started playing it around the time of e three they had a sale, and that was when I picked it up, except Except I think. I think I gotta stop. I wrote a story for this week about how much I like the side quests in that game..

"Websites start popping up that are a little less sketchy about sports gambling and yeah it's been interesting as actually talking to my friend who i bet with with our own like semi illegal thing and i was like are you where this is going to run you guys out a business he's like now whatever it'll be fine the sports betting world is so big that if feels like everybody is just going to win from this so yeah it's really cool it's it's cool to see the us moving in a direction that isn't quite so puritanical between this and lead being legal say so this reminds me of drug legalization because it's again a giant industry that exists illegally but that so many otherwise law abiding people people you know engage in or support or give money to and even the discussion you know like like the we dealer who you know whatever sell weed to random friends and stuff now has to contend with the fact that we'd is legal and is probably going to business just like the person who who would run you know run betting on some games or something now has to be like oh maybe i'm not gonna be able to do this anymore but then also going to be huge tax benefits it's it is interesting actually has a video game impact in that mattie myers how about eastwards is of course the question of gambling on sports i've been following this a little bit you know i don't gamble and i don't really watch a lot of sports but it is fascinating just to see you know why this happened this is sort of one side of the conservative bent of the supreme court coming down in a way that sort of seems like it makes sense it's very state's rights focus they're saying i think sammy lido wrote the majority opinion was basically it was like a textbook example of the federal government getting in the way of states governing themselves and it makes sense to me it seems like i just watched molly's game actually we were talking about that a couple of weeks awesome yeah movie the and i thought it was okay i thought the main character is kind of a cipher but i thought it was fun and.
