Seven zero seven says those drum beaters you're talking about win thirty more games than your SE giant respect. Now. You got me there, buddy. You're right. Seven zero seven says not watching the combine is your loss. You miss out on a Mike Mayock saying things like this kid's muscles have muscles authority the guy. Now, if you wanna get I don't think there's any concern here. But if you wanna pull in a Paul MAC, if you wanna pull in an Adam Copeland, here's how you do. It you bring in Tim Ryan you put Mike in front of them. And you let them start riffing. And then on my watch or I don't know that that would be a start. That'd be a good way to say, what Mayock isn't what's going to get me to the like? That's not going to be my point of watching eight three one says they run with pads on when they play why care about their ability to runs another great question. Another great question. Matters to a degree. You gotta do said. We're gonna have these guys sit down at a desk and do math problems too. Well, they do they do the. TV nam saying put a camera on these guys. Well, they do the wonder forget to carry the two on that one. I'm not so much worried about the blitzing and pass protection. Don't forget to move your decimal long division versus talking about. These are my concerns. Four zero eight says come on, bro. There's af all day. Don't say there's no football. Have. We lost our momentum for the San Diego fleet. How we doing? How has dropped out shiny object? Nice run at a good two weeks, even QB one Lucas had a San Diego fleets sweatshirt. Right. But I think I mean, I don't tell you that's going to be collected hurt fleet or struggling. You got to check with Lucas had to check with local. Nine oh, nine says don't mention Jimmy and running. He'd better never run. Again, throw the damn ball away. Boy. Dillon. He now towards towards the towards the Garoppolo just wanna see boy up. Okay. I mean, there's a lot of this kid's got to deliver. Now. Matt maiocco will talk to us on the other side about what from the combine fits the forty. Niners needs best. Then we got total weekend recall homes and bombs daily dose of dubs recounting the weekend. Carla Latorre, no the Boyer beat writer. Nice profile Damian lead. Today's awesome. Is this going to be the guy or the rumors that they're interested in Andrew bogut loves evoke bat. Angry AUSSIE, you magin high level, right? Like if people are out there saying, oh, this is an injustice he'll be like come on. I just felt like he had made a comment that rubbed a bunch of people the wrong way when you left. I don't know that he talks trash very France. But he's he's very Frank. He's very candy. I appreciate that about my bogus the word. He's box. "In college hoops. Although I would say that a to me any ways a sneaky, close second and most people probably don't consider it a Arizona, California. That's a big one is definitely a big one. But now, I would bring them third. From last maybe. Is Louisville Kentucky. That one's angry. They can hike each other. You're right. That's an angrier. That's an Alabama Auburn type reverie where it's like. I don't know. These guys are almost so good for so long. The you don't I don't never since the anger in Duke in. It's just like, I mean, it's respect passion passionate all that. But not angry like Louisville Kentucky just seems like it's angry. Sometimes to me were the fans are lake. I mean, we lose to store a few years ago that like somebody like punch somebody that dialysis center. There was like a Louisville Kentucky family could Lord. Well, did you see did you see the latest thing which was Papa John's is given something like forty million bucks to Louisville, and then they basically throw them out. And then the other night he was sitting behind the Kentucky bench with Kentucky jacket on like really right behind the bench where the Kentucky jacket on like, they probably would. Hey, come over come over give us money. He sat right behind the bench. Big little Kentucky jacket off. I quit. So there's obviously something going on there. But like you said, it's just it's nasty Papa John over here that funny just seems like it's got a little more of an edge to it. But now, this one's great. It's fun watching one watching these two teams go at there's always pros on the court and this year because as I it's even even hyped up that much more and they're so good. They're gonna have three guys probably top five s with reddish merit in Williamson. And then Young's pretty good too. But. They surprised the line was so has like nine maybe they're telling you something that they expect to beat them down pretty good at at home. But I always enjoy watching that game. Like, if I don't watch and I watch actually the last week or so watched a little bit more. College hoops is kind of you know, that a lot but get into a little bit. But I always watch that one no matter how many hoops games of watched haven't do care line is always one of them because you're getting pros you get an intensity, and they're just I mean the history when they show the highlights of games gone by like, oh, yeah. Ooh. God. I remember that. Oh my God. It's amazing that one to give so many good games. And they usually plan at the end of the season. They're both kind of close together. So they'll be going to Chapel Hill pretty soon. So yeah, this this is one definitely absorb the ticket price or Saint just in college basketball game. It's it's it's a supply and demand thing with Cameron indoor being so small. He's so good. He's compelling. I I honestly I haven't watched this much of one college team. I don't know how many years, I just I watch. If if Duke is on I generally watch him because of him. Why is he says so explosive now I read a piece today that said he's the best prospect since you know, whatever and I'm thinking, okay. But again, the NBA game is different. And I'm not saying he can't be great. But he's six seven to eighty or maybe shorten that. He's not a great outside shooter. He's not long like into the Kubo. He's a soup. He's incredibly good athlete. But I would imagine the guys will be able to handle them or maybe he's just too strong too quick too big on. Nobody's nobody's long. No. But I'm thinking that's kind of his aim, right? Doesn't you have to get to the rim because he's not a great shooter. Yeah, he will. But he's got length these length, and he's massive like you watch him he bodies people and he can finish when he gets body because he's so damn strong. Is he Barclay ish? I mean, he's not he's bigger. I think he's a. Yeah. That's a tough one because Charles was headlong arms to and he had explosiveness not like this. I don't think he was. Explosive is this kid. He didn't really develop too much of a an outside shot consistently until later on news, actually, a pretty good. Pretty good shooter. They both can handle they both thing about Charles in that era. You had to guard guys it could post you up. Zayn have to guard that many guys 'cause don't post it up. And you have to go out and get guys. We'll have to go out and get guys. What do you think you can? I don't think that'll be an issue. He's quick enough. And he's got lateral quickness. So I don't think defending guys will be a problem. And I think the way the league's going it's actually be better for him than it was for for Charles because we're back then three point shooting wasn't a huge deal. So they would double down. They dig they'd clog, Elaine. It was just it was harder. It you weren't free to roam down there. Now, if you put some shooters around you get all kinds of space in the pain, you give this guy is based on the paint. I mean, he's going to eat you alive because of his quickness and as explosiveness so I think he's going to be now. I think it'd be fantastic. If he doesn't have the shooting around him, then it may get a little more congested. It'll be a little tougher for him. But but he's pretty special. I would be surprised if he weren't an all star. Will he be a superstar who knows that's hard to tell? But if he's not an all star at least. Multiple time all-star and his career. I would be I would be surprised, and I think the reason is because the game has changed and for a guy that is dominant inside is he can be his athletic as he can be when everybody's trying to guard shooters boy had. It's open. Yeah. Reminds me a little bit of what Steinmeyer was able to do back when he was with the sons 'cause you had so much damn shooting around him. He would just get these bigger guys and he'd take him, and he can shoot from the elbow and the pick and rolls were devastating with him. And Nash, I could see him being somebody like that. Tomorrow's little taller, the both super explosive Stottlemyre wasn't a great outside shooter. We're pretty good pretty reliable for probably about seventy and mid range. Yeah. And I think I think Williamson will probably get there with that. It's more of a set shot from now, you can shoot the set shot from three can't shoot it from fifteen. That's not gonna work, but the. I I'm just trying to imagine myself trying to guard him. I mean, you wanna go make him go, right, obviously and keep away from his left hand. But boy if he gets at step on you. And even gets even with you. We so damn big. You can't get back around him any bodies you. And he's going to finish over you. And. Smashed the ball in your head. I mean, he's super explosive Monique and really get up and he can really finish. I I don't know what he's shooting. I think somebody say shooting like close at seventy percent from the field. Maybe that was over the last four or five gains. But he's impressive. I mean Barrett's really good reddish is really good young is very good. But this guy is just you can't take your eyes off. And when you're when you watch Duke basketball, really compelling sixty eight point three percent from the field nuts only twenty nine percent though from from three hundred sixty six percent free throw shooter. So like you said he's got to get in the gym. And he's got to work. But even if like, you said if I were him, I I know the temptation for a lot of these guys is to go out to the three point line. But like, you said, you mentioned Barclay or a Carl Malone or somebody who got you'll find that spot like Malone from the baseline or the elbow, or, you know, just find that range because if you can just do that. And then at least so they have to come out to you. And then like you said use your quickness explosiveness get ROY. Him. He doesn't have to be a three point shooter. No, I think if he could get a consistent mid range game also a guard that could get out and he can run on the break or you get a guy could run with them. Get some easy points that way, he would be a monster on the prairie like who would take that charge. I mean look into the combo doesn't shoot many threes. He's getting a little bit better is getting little more accurate, and he'll probably his career progressive socially little bit more here and there, but what makes him so special you can get to the rim. And that that's the one thing that that Zion. Doesn't have that entered the combo hasn't. Nobody else has that length is length is absurd. He liked takes his spin from the free throw line one dribble. And it's like it's dunks it from nowhere like, oh, it's going to be a finger aware. Oh, damn and he gets way up, but it doesn't even need to get weapons arm. It is it's a spectre gadgets goes bounce back from Steph was silly. And it's still going up. He's he's man. He's tough. He just so tough. It's like Eddie guard that guy he's he's really good. But I think science it'd be really good too. I think he's going to be like I said multiple time all star. He's fun to watch. All right do Carolina tonight. Mattie maiocco is gonna join us coming up next the plan for the off season for the forty Niners. We'll get into that. Plus the rumors of receivers where they'll Beckham or Antonio Brown where the chances we'll ask me about it next only here on the sports leader..

"Doesn't. Taught we always love having Matt maiocco. Matt, of course covers the forty Niners extensively. I came out of the blocks today after looking at Rooney the second say, you can't see and Tonio Brown. Staying with the team is no great hot take. But I'm just thinking to myself what the hell that would just put a spark in his franchise you'd have a star on board and unless he's complete jackass who doesn't realize, hey, he talked himself out of one place. I better be cool at this place. Then he's worth it. I was Matt maiocco. See Antonio Brown as a forty Niner. Well, I mean, I guess the rub right? I mean, if he's going to be a good teammate if he's gonna come in and not do what he did it in Pittsburgh where there was a situation there where he had no reason to be upset from a production standpoint. And then when he kind of flipped out before the final game. Found out that he wasn't coded as the MVP on offense. Got it Schuster. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So you said it's worth it. We don't know what the price is. You know, we know what the other contractor is high. But what's it gonna take for the for the Steelers to get rid of him? And they're gonna have so much debt money as it is. So that it's it's complicated. But on the surface. Yeah. Why not you could make a case little deeper? Yeah. Lynch Lynch kinda rolled the dice. When he drafted Reuben foster. At least this guy is proven. He's an all pro player. True. Yeah. The the difference was that you'll Reuben foster was always kind of beloved by his teammates. And it was teen is a good team guy. And also, you know, the financial commitment wasn't anywhere near what it would be for Antonio Brown. So, but certainly a proven guy, but he is on the other side of thirty. That's something to keep in mind. And you know, where where does the forty Niners goes they do need another offensive weapon in the passing game. In addition to George kettle, you know, that you can get by with you know, to number two types of receivers. It's not a prerequisite to win a championship to have habit. Number one white out, in fact, it it just seems like those guys do win championships. But hey, if the price is right, absolutely. Would it be crazy not to at least make the phone? Call. So how the price is going to be high. That's the point. I think I wouldn't hold my breath about one. But I do think that the for years have wherever reason to at least got to kick the tires and see where the Steeler stand and figure out if it's if it makes sense for them, absolutely. They need wide receivers. He's a big time wide receiver. But I I don't know. I to me I think they've got a they're not ready for that kind of move. Just yet. I think they got a I think they've got enough significant needs that need to be addressed. But tell me again, what do you think it would take Larry I would say it's gonna take a first round draft choice between fifteen and thirty to get to land Antonio Brown and the Niners don't have that. Now, they can trade back and get other assets and wind up with a pin that window and send it to Pittsburgh. I could see that. But there's no chance they would give that top. You know that number two pick in the draft forum, and I don't think they're second round picks enough. So they they're gonna have to. But also, I agree that that second overall pick. That's that's a non starter. But I believe the had the thirty six pack, and then there's always, you know, decks, dear second or next year's third in addition. Yeah, I I don't think that they should I think there's this draft is. Is is deep enough in some key places for them that they don't need the mortgage. They should mortgage an entire draft to get one guy. But I could see where they would work something out where you know. There's there's a package of picks over the next two seasons. Well, I mean, yeah, it would have to be a creative deal and probably involve multiple drafts. But if they want him bad enough, it sounds like you got a motivated seller on the other end in Pittsburgh to say, the least, you know, this is the coaching carousel continues to spend most of the head coaching spots are filled. And now the new head coaches are all looking for their new offensive and defensive coordinators, and we're starting to see though, you know, the speed dial kinda turned up on all those transactions. I bring this up because it sounds like Mike McDaniel I'm reading here on Niners nation that he's the Niners run game coordinator. And there were some teams at least some speculation that there would be some teams out there that want him as their offense coordinator is are they going to be able to retain. Mike McDaniel, and obviously that's something that they have a lot of interest in doing the obviously have strong feelings about what he contributes. Yeah. I mean, I from what I understand or what I've seen over the past few years. They're not giving up their assistant coaches, and even if it's for a coordinator position, which would be theoretically, an upgrade promotion, the forty hours do not have to to give permission to any team that seeks to to hire one of their guys. So they did give a they give the run game coordinator title in the past game coordinator titles to Mike mechanical last year and Mike leflore last year as well. So I don't expect them to cave in and and and and led any of these guys walk. They have both those guys contract for one more year. So I think they're keeping their their staff together if you sat down with Lynch and Shanahan. And as Sam. How you feeling about this third year, and you gave him truth serum? Would they be like damn? We gotta come through this year. I'm a little bit nervous. Or you think we keep saying not having Garoppolo last year and having him come back gives them a little boost to confidence that they're gonna come into this year feeling good again as did a year ago. Yeah. I'm not sure that they Wade into last season feeling all that great. I think that they had a better idea of what that team was then most people on the outside. And I think that they believe that things would have had to go darn near perfectly for that team as it was constructed to make a playoff push and get into the post season. So that were just us in the media thinking they were a playoff team. I yeah, I do believe. So I think they knew I think they knew what what that team was they knew the halls. They knew what he was capable of. And then when you factor in jerick McKinnon injured before the season even started and then Garoppolo out week one or week three. You're talking about things that had to fall perfectly and he did it perfectly. Now, kind of the. It's kinda. You wanna think it'd be this way? But even though they had to fewer wins this year going from six wins two four wins. Now, I think that they believe that they're closer to where they were trying to get because they feel like there's more depth there. The guys that will be coming back are are probably in a better position to to put it together and play. Well, so I think they they believe that there's there are only a couple pieces away. I think they need to play maker on offense. They need to upgrade that edge rusher spots on defense. And I think that they believe that they can make a pretty good job with those guys who were injured coming back health players away. Matt that sounds pretty good. Yeah. I'd say like now we're not talking Super Bowl, but we're talking getting into the playoff picture in like, I said, it's, you know, a guy like George KENDALL is base is their number one receiver, but they do. Need another guy to bump marquess good? Went back to a limited type of role. You get a healthy. Mckinnon the offense of Lyon played pretty well for the most part last season. And then you get Garoppolo back then on the other side. Seven seven takeaways is the worst in the history of the NFL they need guys to come from the outside hit the quarterback disrupt the quarterback. And I think what you'll see is. Now, we're talking about three pretty big pieces talking about a playmaker. And to edge rushers. Those guys don't just fall off the trees. But if they can get those guys now it makes everybody on that defense better. So I don't think there is far away as the foreign twelve would suggest you think edge rusher is the is the the guy they invest in that second pick overall, and it's an interesting year because I mean, it could you know, who knows if Cuyler Murray or twain Haskins, and the you know, the quarterback's oftentimes get vaulted towards the top. I don't know that that will happen this year. But if it does the Niners could be sitting there too looking at their choice of Clelland Farrell from Clemson the kid from Kentucky's a big time talent, and maybe Nick Bosa. Well, I don't see how it can't be. And I would think that, you know, even five weeks before that in free agency, they're going to try to to sign a guy in a lot of guys a lot of names out there will be franchised. So you don't know who's going to be available. But I would think that their top priority and free agency would be to upgrade get one up grade at edge rusher in free agency and then come back five weeks later in the draft. And no, you're gonna get either. The you know, the first or second best guy on your on your board. So yeah, I would think that that far and away are the two biggest spots at the role looked at Phil. Let let edge rusher had right edge rusher. All right, Mattie. Well, good. We'll talk with you next week. And just so I know when I'm hanging around at the bar. "On KABC are sixty sports leader. Very wonderful time of year. Of course. How many people are actually out there? Scrambling right now as I'm talking trying to get presence because last minute details before you have all the family over you have a family over friends that are you going somewhere? Both both you're doing split. Yep. Like four Christmases. Yep. Polar polar said his wife's out shopping. I gotta go out shopping tomorrow. Anyway, kmby are is the number coming up in just a few minutes. Mattie maiocco is going to hop on with us. We'll talk about the forty Niners matchup with the bears this weekend week sixteen on the schedule for the NFL and the one game that obviously with all the playoff implications going on. I'm very much interested to see what's happening in the AFC with both the chargers and the chiefs in there's a lot of scenarios that can happen. I mean, the patriots for the first time in what nine years getting a first round. Bye could absolutely miss that the Steelers why still don't really know who they are. I mean, they can get the AFC north with a win. And the Baltimore Ravens losing to the chargers on Saturday, which is absolutely a possibility. So we could see the Steelers when the AFC north. I mean, you look at the ravens they can get the AFC north if they have a better record than the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's the last couple of games in the way that they can do it is if they went out and Pittsburgh loses one of the next two games. Now, obviously, they've got a huge match of this weekend against the saints. I think the Steelers do lose that game. But then they got the Bengals the end of the week. So it really depends. I think on what the ravens do on was it Saturday against against the chargers. So it's going to be so so interesting right now, this is my favorite time of year in the NFL with all the playoff scenarios going on heading into wildcard week in which I just love. Yeah. You look at if they're able to run the ball little bit the Steelers. There. Okay. He just fine. They will be did Jacksonville game was the only one where they really ran poorly and won a game. And that was based on some stupid plays by Bortles and in the defense. Whatever man for twenty six yards that game seventy five against the Broncos in a loss sixty five versus the chargers in a loss forty versus the raiders in a loss. And then one fifty eight last week against the patriots. They win. Right. I mean, so if they put up some some yards on the ground during their six game win streak falcons Bengals Browns ravens Panthers. They went one thirty one one twelve one one thirteen one thirty eight that was a huge deal for them. If they could run if James Connor in now, Jalen Samuel, Jalen Samuels. I if they can, you know feed off each other and make this a two headed monster in the backfield for them. That was I mean what a clutch win for the Steelers against the patriots last week, and Jalen Sammy's had so much to do with that what he had one hundred and forty on the ground. Unbelievable. I mean unbelievable. You wonder what the pressures like for a kid like that twenty two years old? There's like there doesn't seem like it doesn't seem like it at all doesn't appear to be any pressure forms, very confident. I love the way that he's been talking about how you know. Steelers say Jan Jalen same. He sees himself as a true running back. He's not scared of the NFL the game's not too fast for him. I love the attitude. I mean with Connor and Samuel's the confidence that both of them have in the backfield is amazing again, I still don't know exactly who the Pittsburgh Steelers are the last couple of years has been kind of weird with the drama and Tomlin locker room, but as far as the running backs go there, they're solid. I agree with you one hundred percent if they could run the ball. They absolutely could take the north into the postseason and then from there. It's just dice roll for everybody. Yeah. I mean going back on it with. With the two of James, Connor, Jalen Samuels. Yeah. There really isn't pressure on them. And the reason why I say that is because you have Antonio Brown. You have you have juju Smith Schuster, you have Ben Rothlisberger. So it's not all on you. You know, you you don't have to worry about the the outside stuff. You worry about doing your job to your job. Okay. I hope in rely on my teammates to pick me up because I have legit players behind you. I think that is a big key in the whole thing with those young running backs. They don't have to do everything. Just play your butts off do your jobs if it doesn't take care of itself doing that. You have other guys to pick you up. It is not all on you where I feel like at times, you know, the Steelers in general relied so much on Levy on bell. Yes. That when it came down to it when when everything broke down, and he wasn't performing everything crumbled. Yeah. I'm with you a hundred. Ben was going all that stuff. That's what happened. I mean. You're you're right. That's exactly what happened what he crumbled. He was like he's like if you if you imagine if you mentioned a table, it seemed like lady on bell was two legs that table. And if he went down the whole thing was slide in decline, and it was it was an opposite ends is on the same sags. Exactly. Exactly. And it was it was really weird to see again, the the identity of the Steelers still remains a mystery to me even week sixteen. Let me ask you this question before we move onto Matt maiocco when it comes to the Houston Texans. Obviously they started out own three. Now, they have a chance to win the AFC south with a win or an Indianapolis Colts laws. No, the colts again who have a lot. I mean as far as the equations go for a lot of teams getting into the postseason for some reason. The Indianapolis Colts were always are always involved. They're playing the giants is weakened the colts are the Houston Texans. Do you think that they are forever? Taking on the eagles right now. The eagles are still fighting their way. And they still are not mathematically eliminated. But starting our own three then go and nine one the rest of the way. I mean this Texans team if they can create steam like they have going into the post season, they can be very dangerous in the AFC. That's what I think is so interesting about both conferences cab. I mean, you look at the regular season looks like the AFC was pretty much locked up. But we knew who was going to be good in the AFC and the NFC in the regular season is all jumbled. Now, it gets to the postseason. These AFC match of. I don't know who the hell is gonna come out on top. I think it all resides on. Lamar miller. I know it's not really that big of a take on that sex. But because he hurt his ankle the other day and Alfred blue he's been. Backfield. There's there's two constants on offense aside to Shawn Watson. Yup. India dre Hawkins because the one thing that we can't say that is definitive on the defensive side is they're going to get to the to the quarterback. They're gonna get to them with JJ watched avian cloudy. The guys inside they are phenomenal. They have. You know, maybe a yeah. I would think a Super Bowl defense. I'm with you on that. I mean, they're taking on a Philadelphia Eagles team. Like, I said that is not mathematically eliminated. I mean to get the NFC east think about this situation right now, the shrine to foles, I have Chris long swine, Nick foles guys are lighting candles in there. So great Chris long from the eagles has a shrine Nick foles in his locker. It's an eight by ten photo of Nick foles. And then an autograph copy of Nick foles book with a bunch of canned scandals around it guy. They love him in Philly. Don't they teammates love, Nick foles? They do because they know where where he stands, right? They know that even though he led them to..

"Again. The risk reward is completely out of whack. The numbers are completely out of whack. I'm not saying we need to go back to the days of Mike. Bronson Johnson Vold where teams two to three pointers in Eastwood in a month. Get off my lawn guy will screw that. The I'll get on the Pac twelve now. Get on the game right now roast everybody today. But no, they need to make the three point line twenty six feet. All the way around all the way, I've not twenty seven feet all the way around. I make it a shot. You actually have to think about taking the problem is for the rest of the league. You just open. The warriors is what you can shoot shoot it up. Oh, man. It'd be a joke. But that's really that's what it should be. By the way. You're listening to Tolbert London. San Francisco KFC NHCD to San Mateo, these sports leader. Are you can continue? I just feel like it. It's not this extreme yet. But I just feel like we're at right now the three point line. It's the old ACC line. That was seventeen seven. Yeah. That was like, are you kidding me? We have a three point line inside the top of the key. That was like the biggest joke of all time. I don't know who thought that was a good idea that person should have been jailed maybe not for a long period of time. But for at least a day, the you just had a three point line. They came inside the top of the key. Are you drunk are you high night you're going to jail, but the NBA right now is just way to three point Centric. It really is. When you have a game where team shoots fifty six threes. Fifty six threes. I mean, I know the big man's dead. But I mean, come on fifty six Mike is rolling over his grave going. He couldn't get the ball down low. Let's go let the big man touch it assembly. Berkeley now get into the big, man. I just missed the creativity degree activities gone. I mean, he just he just you just do penetrate. Kick penetrate kick penetrate kick and then someone Jackson for three. Get the game's different guys run to the three point line on breaks. No, one runs the Dunkin more it's like this to the three point line and shoot it again. Here's the frustrating part. I get it. It don't make sense. It makes perfect sense. It's the right thing to do the numbers. Prove it's the right thing to do. But it's just it's not, you know, I've just been watching this for the love of the game or for the love of basketball. Whatever the hell it's called. And you watch. Yeah. It's fine. I mean, all these old time players in the creativity in in in in what they do inside just not necessarily the post game. But just inside the three point line, man. I mean, it's incredible to watch these guys go I mean, George Gervin and the finger rolls. Dr J and his creativity and Magic Johnson bird in the fall away. And all that kind of stuff now, it's just. Which is just gonna go. What is gonna shoot threes? And guess what? Guess all the kids are doing now launching his launched three big at three point shooter. You could probably get a scholarship, by the way, real quick look at a team rankings Milwaukee just wanted to see Milwaukee year to year. Okay. Milwaukee is up sixteen three point shots again twenty five to forty one. I'm looking at Boston's plus seven plus five Charlotte's plus seven. Knicks plus seven Minnesota, plus eight Phoenix plus for Sacramento, plus three, let's see what else anybody down through your. There's about five teams teams that are down. What's interesting? The rockets lead the league in three point shots per game. Forty one point two they were forty one point nine last year. The biggest team that's down. Cleveland Cleveland last year shot thirty one point eight twenty two point eight if crummy shooters crummy, they don't have anybody to dribble and get them open. Right. Exactly. Whereas the broad no one's claimed man. No one's in the defense right now plane, they got problems to the veterans are getting on concepts and insane. Isn't I read that? It's like he's a rookie. Yeah. He doesn't want to play basketball. And he's an Alabama team. Rebasing was LeBron dribbled all over the place. Ball wimp Sanders. Let's go. Do not play. He's a rookie. Yeah. Yes, they are. All right. All right. Governor is gonna join us coming up next. The former Stanford and Cal and worst coach oh, four thirty. All right. He's going to join us a four thirty. So in an open seven coming up next. We got going on NBA and three pointers stuff will reset the NFL from yesterday and the favorites one. So if you're a typical sports better you had a great weekend suck if you're a not somebody around here might not sucked contrarian than maybe be weekend. All right. We'll get into that coming up next and then Mike McCurry at four thirty and Mattie maiocco at five only here on the sports leader. From the Chilton auto body traffic.

"To gain day. Marquees Goodwin here. Not about me just making plays on the field. On sundays. Mondays thursdays. It's about helping my family and the people who've been with me from John just to be able to serve these experiences. Narms is grateful for that. Six eight sports. Can't give up five hundred twenty one yards. And in the first quarter. I was so excited about the, and I was so frustrated with the defense because it looked like we did like four or five days in coverage like flat out didn't cover their receivers. Like Hello might want to cover Davante Adams. Brad Jones who joins us every Monday on Tolbert Lund. John lund. Ryan Kobe game day at Levi stadium is we're getting ready for the Rams and the Niners before we do that, by the way, great stuff from Dennis Brown. And he just ran over to check out the statue. So make sure to follow us. We'll be sending out some of the pictures. I'm sure the guys from kmby over there as well. So we'll give you the unveiling of that in just a few minutes going to happen about ten minutes. And we're getting into the Packers game. We just saw because they're gonna they're gonna pay tribute to the ninety four Super Bowl winning team. Just saw Terrell Owens walked by. And of course, it would never be about him as he walked by his goal jacket and in LA hat. Yes. Oh, that should be some fun stuff and Dennis. I'm sure can tell us. Goes back from that. We'll get into that would Dennis returns about the ninety four team. And obviously about the unveiling we'll get you some pictures out on social media it as well. But let's look at last week. And that was Brent Jones is going to be here as well. Who joins us every Monday on the show. And he's talking about the defense obviously, five hundred twenty one yards against Green Bay hobbled. Aaron Rodgers the Niners got four hundred and one and scored thirty points. So as much as we discussed when Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt how they wouldn't be the same because CJ Beathard was playing quarterback. That hasn't been the case at all. In fact, Eric branch and sit down and no. On his Twitter account. They basically played the exact same quarterback Garoppolo and CJ Beathard played about to the same numbers. So it comes back defense. He said same old story not as many mistakes, but it comes down to a couple of different things, which is not playing up the opportunities. That's eight now eight turnovers in the last two weeks. The Niners are minus eleven on the year, which is by far the worst and leagues five two weeks ago tone, Arizona team is atrocious. They were terrible against Denver night. And then last week, look, I'm not going to say that's a winnable game. You win that game. If you don't turn the ball over the way, they turn the ball over here. We can get into. I'm sure the final drive wanted to discuss that and all these different things. But the reality is they gotta figure out a way for the first time this year to play a clean football game. You play a clean football game. You win a football game. Usually, and I know it sounds overly simplistic, and we want to delve into the numbers and really quantify. Why this team's losing football games? But if you want to just take that. Macro view turnovers. Protect the ball. You look at what they were able to do for stretches in this game. And it was terrific. They moving the ball markets Goodwin's getting over the top of the defense. So now they can't squat on the running game. After respect. The fact that Beth will throw over the top all the sudden holes are open up in the running game most running. Well breed is running. Well, all types of positives. You put up thirty points on the road in lambofield. That's terrific, but three turnovers to none. And then of course, execution in the fourth quarter forty Niners last three drives three now. Three now three and pick. And look you're trying to beat Aaron Rodgers on Monday night football. If you leave the door open he will roll on. And it's not like the Packers were scintillating in the second half of mean, look they scored thirteen points in the second half. The the Packers were threatening to put this game away early. But the forty Niners, you know, had some punch. I mean, they they were scoring with them in the defense, you know, found its footing for stretches in the game. And you know, I mean you look at the the second and the third quarter the holding the Packers. Just a couple of field goals. That's terrific. But this has been a recurring theme with Kyle Shanahan in this team. They're like right there. It's like Tommy boy, he's got the sale in his hand. And it's like he gets all excited and everything is on fire. And he's like, oh, you know. That's what happens in the fourth quarter. I mean, they they can almost aced victory. And they're like, oh, wow. This tastes zone familiar. And then everything just goes awry, well, I think what we what we saw Dennis was just talking about. This is a team that needs to learn how to win and the whole time is I'm watching the game. And I know you stop by. And we're hanging out with us for a little while as well. We had a great time at th born Arinda where we are for all the road games. And. If you're within a touchdown Aaron Rodgers he's going to beat you quarterbacks in this league where you've got to step on their throat. You gotta hit the pedal to the metal. If you're up you can't play in a conservative fashion. So Aaron Rodgers even on one leg made a play down the middle, and we can get into this. Final drive. In fact, now's the time is any but you got the ball. It's it's at the eight yard line after the interception. And the biggest player that whole drive is not the Richard Sherman penalty is not the Aaron Rodgers run is not three consecutive plays inexplicably. Where they allowed a guy to get to the sideline. It was timer. Grammar running for fourteen yards in the Packers went. Okay. I guess we got a shot at this thing. And they were going to run it out. They're going to run the football. You gotta make a tackle. Right. Then there and it stops everything. But they get some confidence the Sherman penalty happens after Buckner sack. They should have been off the field at that point. We can debate whether you call that or not I mean, technically, it's right. But I'm never for an. Official to that level determining outcome. Terrible. It happens all the time on every single play. You could call it on every single play much me didn't like that. But it comes down to two. I'm sure you did the same thing. I asked everybody I can talk to this week that smarter than me. Accurately played the game in some capacity or coach the game. Are we too hard on me being here because he allows three balls to the outside guy, especially the last one just look, I know Davante Adams is really good. But a free released to the outside when you know, all you gotta do they have no timeouts. I gotta do is tackle them inbounds easier said than done, I get it. But you can't let them have a free released. Can't let them outside got push him to the you've gotta get outside of that guy. So at least yesterday struggled to get to the sideline catch step out. Catch step out. Catch step out times a row. Yeah. That's it was just first of all terrific execution by the Packers. Aaron Rodgers like, oh, they're giving me this throw right now. Thank you. And it went from. Oh that might be a tough field goal. For a kicker that miss four field goals in a PAT last week to. Oh, wow. That's a makeable field goal to. Oh, that's a chip shot. And you're just watching it just disintegrate right before your eyes. And I know for fans it's frustrating. I talked to a lot of money show this week. And I understand you know, you had an opportunity. But schematically, I mean, I it just it leaves so much it just befuddling to watch John. I mean, look Robert Sala, I think like this scheme when you hear about the, you know, the cover three the single high safety what is supposed to be as easy to implement. So the players can be reactionary. It doesn't leave a lot to the imagination for young guys. Exactly. So mavens like how many times you go over this in practice, the two minute, drill, etc. Like, what do you do in that situation situational football? Like, you said keep them inbounds, no free release protect the sidelines. They they don't have any time out. I mean, it's not you don't have to be Vince Lombardi to figure that out. They don't have timeouts keep them balanced. Protect those sidelines and knowing where they're not protecting them. It was like they were content to concede that throwing and say this is Aaron Rodgers she can drop it in a bucket, and you're going to give them that brow. It just blows my mind it again players play coaches coach. There was a debate this week and Robert solid. I thought he did a very good job. Fact, we can play a little bit later in responding to a question of you know, you're getting a little heat. What do you think? He basically said there's two kind of coaches there are those who have been fired and those waiting to get fired. Then you kind of explain he's not on social media. He doesn't care. He's you know, he's grinding away. Look, Robert solid didn't say he doesn't need me to defend amid Robert solid didn't say, hey, let him get out of bounds. Robert Sala is stuck with Gregg maiden, who's a free agent for a reason he has a killer Weatherspoon who has regressed this year. We've all seen it. Nobody's thrown at Richard Sherman. That's great that Richard Sherman has the pro football focus numbers that he has. But nobody's throwing because who's ever opposite him. That's the most important guy in this football team right now, whoever is opposite Richard Sherman and tomorrow morning to Mattie maiocco, who will talk to later in the show said the third rounder might get an opportunity today. Just because it's look we tried. Maybe hasn't worked. We tried Witherspoon lacked. Some confidence got beat up early in the year a little bit. Maybe this guy deserves a shot now from what I've seen from him. And I'm not at practices, and I'm not seeing how he's developed but remember early last season killer Weatherspoon was I've, wow, this guy's not physical enough. This guy's too thin. This guy needs a redshirt year. All of a sudden he played pretty well. Last year. I've seen the same things for more. Remember third round pick third round pick both of them. More to me in camp was very raw didn't play a whole lot. He looked like a guy that, hey, this guy is gonna take a while. They're at the point now where we gotta find something. Because every team we're talking about the Rams here. Every team is going to say, hey, why through at twenty five when we can throw at twenty three when we can throw a twenty six when we can throw it. What's more aware? Now, I gotta look, but reality is they've got a lot of other young guys. Colbert is struggling back thirty three thirty three tart is hit and miss when it comes to pass carriage. I like him as a as a running force hit guy. But there's a lot of holes in that secondary. So why would I possibly throw it Richard Sherman? When there's a bunch of other guys that I can throw out week-to-week, especially given what the Rams weapons, and we can debate the modern state the NFL SARS it's so hard to play defensive back and the rules are all set up for the offense to score forty five points..

"John leash with Tolbert and Lund on sports leader. We talk to John every couple of weeks before we get into the to the football side of things is the Niners. Have the Rams at Levi stadium on Sunday. Very cool today. Statues of Dwight Clark, Joe, Montana commemorating. The catch are going to be unveiled at Levi stadium four hours before Sunday's game in his Mattie maiocco tweets out, the it is not open to the general public or ticket holders on Sunday. But the statues of Clark and Montana will be accessible to the public on non game days. And I just wanted to ask you about that. I first of all welcome John and second of all how cool to get those unveiled this weekend. No it is. It is exceptionally cool. And you know, that's I think when you when you do special things, you leave legacy, and I think Joe, and and and Dwight and that play have left a legacy in many ways that was at the beginning of of things to come which was with the unbelievable period of success and really became a dynasty the San Francisco forty Niners that won five championships. And you know, I take on top of that the impact those guys had on our community and watching Dwight who was involved with this organization forever. And then fight the fight. He did with L S. I think he means so much to to our fan base everybody in this building. And I it's just it's gonna be great time to honor him tonner Joe honor that play. And and I'm sure we'll be quite emotional as well. You know, you think about it. There just aren't that many icon EQ plays in sports like that every? Sports fan remembers you like. Yup. I know either where I was watching that game or member that play I just it's so vivid in that is just one of those plays. Not only did it kind of start the dynasty rolling here in San Francisco. But if you mentioned the catch to a sports fan, I mean, they make Willie Mays and in in baseball. But a lot of people would say, yeah, I remember that Montana declerk. Yeah. And and you know, why that is I think because you know, what it what it was at the beginning. It was a sign of things to come home. And then it was such a feat of athleticism, and and you know, I think a lot of people probably before Joe became great said you got lucky just throwing that thing away was actually creating skill. You was too tall. Jones somebody in his face up there high. It was designed by the great though wall. She always add someone running that red line in the back. It happened to be Dwight who is exceptionally tall and athletic, and and he went up and at the. Edge of fingertips brought it in. And you know, it's Chris Berman was there and reporting right there. It's just I I remember it. And I think most football fans do certainly our fan base to faithful do and it was against the Cowboys, which doesn't hurt. We're talking to Niners GM John Lynch says who do every couple of weeks to get the Rams at Levi stadium coming up this weekend. All right. It's been a few days. So maybe it won't hurt as much to reopen this wound but the Packers on on Monday night. And I gotta believe that. I was looking at Erin because I couldn't remember if you played against him. He didn't start until two thousand eight and you were done at that point. But any great quarterback Rogers Brady breeze. Any of these guys if you're within one score in these guys have the football. You got to be afraid. Yeah. I don't I don't know about afraid. I think you've I remember it's much like the guy who played before him, and I in Brett farve and every time we played them. Tony Dungy who had a way of telling us before the game like on Wednesday. If you do this this and this you'll win if not you'll lose in with far of it was always, you know, he's going to throw you about four to five opportunities through the course of that game. And if you make good upon them and catch them, and we turn the ball over or we we we take the ball away. You know, we'll win. But here's the deal guys. He's gonna throw it harder than everyone else. So they don't he's just too good. You know, he's he's that good of a player that if you give him multiple opportunities going gonna get you. And that's kind of how it was the other day. I think and that's what's so frustrating about what we're going through as a team. There's so much good that that's going on our offense. I I would tell you for about three quarters played about as flawless as a game from the opening drive as as I've seen it group play. I mean, it was just perfect design. Perfect execution people working in harmony. And you know, I think the one opportunity I looked to is you know, we were going down. And I think you know, was third in three. We went fast. We had an open guy out in the flat. C J D kid on it just went outside of kill off Kittles fingertips and we kick a field goal. But to beat a great one like Aaron Rodgers, you gotta you gotta score the touchdown there. And then we still have opportunities. And you know, it's it's it's it comes down to like complementary football too. You know, having your your teammates backs and win offense is playing. Well defense has got back that up. I thought at the beginning of the game we come out with a flawless Dr offensively. And it looks like you know, what this team came to play. You kinda let a team off the hook. When you give them to place with miss communications, and such and you have to explosives, it's just and to our credit. We came back from that that that's the kind of complimentary football when you have a drive like that step on their throat, come and have a three and out and say not tonight. We're we're coming, and that's just what we haven't done. And when we start doing that and playing complete games. It doesn't have. Perfect. But you play complete you have each other's back. You play complementary football will start turning these into wins. I wanted to get your perspective on this having played db at a high level for many many years at the end of the game with the last ride with Green Bay after the run that that occurred after the holding, and I'm not sure if it's holding or not, but who knows I mean, maybe by the letter of the law, but anyway, he throws balls back shoulder one. The other one gets out about the end of the bounds on both of them. I know those are really good throws. But should there have been either a defense employed that would have stopped that to keep everything inside more should've been played differently? Or do you say, well, you know, what a great throws. He's going to get out of bounds because I'm thinking to myself, John. In that situation. I'll give rises credit or credit. Do they're great throws. But I can't let those guys get out of bounds in that situation. Yeah. I understand the frustration. I think I think to me. When you look at that. And and I could be wrong because they do have Aaron Rodgers who they have the ultimate trust in. But I think the first play of that drive when we have them backed up. Remember, the pick was you know, it was a pick. And that was disappointing. Once you got over that. It's kinda like, okay, we had a long time minutes seven left in the game. I think they have a fourteen yard run and get out about the team. Now, let's go for the win. If we stop them right there, which if we just do our job, we do even with Aaron Rodgers threw they might be. All right. Let's give it one more play. It's not run some clock. And let's get this thing to overtime like in their chances. When we let that out you give a guy like that opportunities. Now, what you're talking about it by keeping people inbounds, you know, they didn't have any time out. You can't just yarn in the situation where you can give them yards in the middle of the field. But you're right. You should be garden the the boundary, and you know, they they had a receiver in Davante Adams who's an extremely good player. You have to respect his speed. I think. The first one was an out to him. Maybe he's gotta respect that speed. We didn't have a zone drop her underneath. I mean. So there's reasons we gotta clean those reasons up and that's part of playing a complete game. And you know, they later on which I think solid now is trying to protect your corner, and we play with the safety of over the top he back shoulders on a play where we shouldn't that shouldn't be allowed it shouldn't happen. And so there's reasons, but ultimately, those are just excuses, and I keep saying it. But ultimately, you know, you've gotta sometimes in those drives. I we used to always say in Tampa who you know, we first of all we relish those opportunities because we had a bad ass defense. And it was who who's going to be the guy I'm making this play Defoe made the play. They got off the hook on the penalty. And oftentimes it's just one play in a series like that that can get can put a put a team it can be that dagger. And unfortunately, the time we made it we got off the hook with the penalty. And we still had countless opportunities. We didn't get it done. Yeah. John Lynch get enough to join us forty Niners general manager of the Rams coming up at Levi stadium this weekend. There have been so many close calls over the last couple of years. We talked about it incessantly last year. And we've talked about it over the last few weeks, obviously turnovers two weeks ago against Arizona. You a few turnovers in this game as well. But is there something to learning how to win because I remember you guys in Tampa, all the sudden you guys turned the corner. In fact, I think it was against the forty Niners the day that the Jerry Rice got injured. You guys had I think the new pewter uniforms, and you got you guys kind of just turn this corner. Listen, it was like, wow, Tampa something is there something to that. Because like you said somebody's got to step up defensively. Somebody's gotta make a play offense. It's a few plays keeping you guys from winning games. Yeah. I think there is. You know, I there's are no doubt that there is you you've got to find those those people that and and the hard thing is that everyone looks for what you have to fight is. Everybody says, okay, I'm going to be that guy. But how how do you go about that by wildcat? And then just doing whatever. No. That's the exact wrong thing by doing your job. But just doing it very well by trust in your teammates. And you know, we we we seem to that's part of learning. How to win is just doing that trusting the systems that do work, and then ultimately making plays, and you know, unfortunately, Jonah I thought we kind of went through that at the end of last year. You know that learning how to win, and you would have liked to believe that we're struggling again, we don't, you know, I would tell you though that most one in five football teams, and there's no moral victories. There's not a whole lot of good going on. There's a lot of good going on. But that's all it doesn't count at this level because you have to put a complete effort together. And that's what we need to learn to do. Well, look, I mean, we can sit here and say you lost your starting quarterback. You lost starting running back. Good ones out a good portion of the season. And we would have difference. He makes but that's not something you guys can use. In fact, I would say is it team, John you almost got to fight against that. Like, it doesn't matter who's not here at this point. This is who's here, and you have to believe you're good enough to win. And I think the guys do believe they're good enough to win. And they showed it has been really really good for the most part. I thought the offensive line played their best game of the year against the Packers. And you're right. It's just cleaning those little things up. But that's the main thing you just got to keep believing. That hey, we don't care who's here. Who's not here? The guys that are here. Good enough to win. Yeah. We've got enough in this building. I mean, you just look at the opportunities the last three weeks, take take those just those games and within our control, you know, we can go put those games away. We can win those games. And you know, once we start realizing that and once we start putting it all together. We'll do that. The challenge gets a lot tougher because we're playing against a team that's playing better this week and who's playing better than anybody in this league..

"Live at k dot com. Rejoinder the year ship with this down on the Murph and MAC analysts here. Paulie, MAC, all the way. Let's sure. Yeah. You can absolutely. I'm going to open this up even more cope into my world into my areas of expertise. How about this? Even if I'm a fan of some of these guys just there LA proximity now disqualifies them f Jim Morrison. F Perry Farrell f Dave Navarro? Nobody forgetting over there. More for the great L A rock band. Oh, f gene Simmons, by the way, too. Gene Simmons who is a New York guy. But several textures had sent in pictures of gene Simmons the God of thunder cope with the dodgers had on. So we gotta say blank blank, gene Simmons. This all started early this morning. We recapping to dodgers Thursday, exercise stress by second guessing baseball strategies on text to each other. And I happen to be running around. I missed the whole council thing, and he was like genius. It's brilliant. Are you regretting your take by the way on that? I don't think I say, genius or brilliant. I said, this is awesome. Right. And I thought it was an awesome move at the time, and it just didn't work out. Okay. And I did agree. And I whispered new year when Mattie maiocco was on sand like the Bush league thing, I totally get that. And if you're sitting in the dodger dug out of your dodger fan first of all blank you but second of all be an upset. Okay. First of all blank, you know, get that out of the way now Middleton. Yeah. So it led to just the general frustration of the dodgers taken the lead in the sixth inning. And I was out of pocket. And I couldn't ask whatever I was doing it was running around. But the kids you're a swimming pool or whatever, and I'm okay what's going on. And you wrote back Muncie hit a ground ball that would have been a standard double play ball. Had there not been a shift. So I just got so frustrated. I swear I wrote I wrote f the shift I spelled it out. Yes. Okay. I said f the shift, and then I didn't stop there. I said f Chris Taylor. It's only if Christel. Yup. Yup. And then I said in blank dusty Baker is a dodger show. That's all I'm going after Dave Navarro, gene Simmons got you know, what I mean guys. I would like an enormous world. But during the playoffs blind throwback blank Kershaw. Yeah. Yeah. Duke Snider, right? Flank VIN Scully outside of the Dwight Clark catch blank pee wee Reese because I'm throwing that in the hat in peewee Reese, and then he wrote blank Casey Blake poll in Blake. Manny would has anybody said, Don Drysdale to go home. Drysdale? Should we go to the the sacred cow the one they all worship, I'll say it blend. Jackie man. She's. I was gonna say sandy Colfax. Now. That's funny. Blank stares, Ricky, you know, all those. Blink the romance of Ebbets field Ebbets field. Field. I saw I wrote back blank. Dave Roberts has a good guy. Yeah. That's a good one. I said blank Steve. Garvey sperm got a little little personal. Right. And then I wrote in blank, Mike Marshall and his week a that night at candlestick. I'll never forget him stomping on home. Exactly what you're sitting might at the Humby on how many? She moved it all man now. So now it led to an entire just an avalanche. Beautiful blanks aches. Yep. Coach when he went code red on us with the blank, Jackie. Code red. There's nowhere left to go. After that. That's it. But anyway, the point being that if you guys are wondering why we're talking about why that rejoin came about as good as it should we do this all again with Neil in San Mateo on tweet, PU we know let's see. Copes helped me out. I don't touch Edward Scissorhands every time. I try to go to a gallstone. I screw it us. Why let cope to kneel San Mateo. Good morning. Good morning, gentlemen. You know, when when BUSTER Posey house his eatable swing as a dodger fan, I can still free. She ate the fact that it's beautiful. I think there's one thing that you just got to put away because this is about the giants right now, you'll be better. Baroness cloud analysis of really good opposite field. Heading dodgers. They were the brewers are banking on the fact that those guys we're going to try to get the ball out of the park yesterday. Because that's all they think they can do they've done a ton of it. But Ballenger went opposite. Double Muncie went ball opposite in the five. Six whole hit the ball up the middle Barnes hit the ball up the middle. And I'm just gonna say you gotta look up and down. The giant giants lineup right now. Bro. Player from that team to replace. Trust me. There's no comparison and roster talented. It's unbelievable. I mean, that's why elebrate going down to stop. Body of work is ridiculously bad in terms of his the history on in the in the you know, you must be an off. My talent is so tired, my friends so tired. Yeah. Was it? Good hitting by up and down the lineup. Absolutely. Is the dodger roster. I mean seriously who on the giant roster. Would you rather have an A bomb busters defense? Maybe crawford. Stevens doom monogamous offers Crawford prophets claw up to three. Miranda. Long. And Derek Rodriguez. All right, Neil. So we're up to five or I we'll give you twenty. All right. So I'm just saying I'm just saying with all due respect that that I didn't understand why a giant fan wouldn't like week. But I'm telling you. It's very similar to the reasoning that I have for not liking today, Madison. Bumgarner, even though I appreciate what he did in his World Series fine. Two years in a row hits the guy to load the bases. Why? 'cause he got mad at him out the time with you hitting Bumgarner, I think that's awesome better the game. I love the you hate Bumgarner bonds Graham, and that's kind of your part of the fun, man. I want you to hate him. What he did on that was brush then. They head off. And afterward was a little bit of Justice for a guy. That's fine. Whatever I've all wear that. That's fine. I still the guy's been the guy's body of work is the guy's body of work is is oceans transcends by oceans Puig's body of work, especially given their their behavioral history to everything. Bumgarner does people are overreacting to anyway. He's at a couple of minor incidents where he just competes like old school pitchers compete is. So off the charts and stuff I've never seen before insists ridiculous. I've never seen a player like this guy. The over self evaluation is off the charts. So no, I'm not buying it. Neil. You're allowed to hate bumper. But you can't compare the two. Nah. So I'm just saying that this was to compare the two exactly what you did. What was never done anything and bummed. He's never done. No. No. No. No. No. No, no. He was trying to get it out there. I listened to what he said. And I told him he's he can hate Bumgarner. But you can't compare the two in terms of how they've lead their careers to their certain to these certain. Dodger fan base in this area. They got a lot of faulty kind of premises, Murph. When they come at you with their arguments like, I it shouldn't even be this complex. We hate the dodgers. Don't don't overanalyze things any other market. I mean, it's like we're so soft. It's unbelievable. You try gangqi in medicine. Explain it. No. You don't have to explain. No matter where he plays. We wouldn't like him. Yeah. Right. I wouldn't researcher Nastro intensified the dodgers on the ashes. I'd be like who's this? Jack on the asteroid told me who is this guy. I'm watching the Astros. And then people always say, oh, it enhances the I watched the Red Sox and Astros play. Unbelievable. High level baseball talent all over the video. Plays all over the field. And my my my my Cup is full with entertainment. And I'm like, this is amazing. I am so entertained and never once did I scrunch my face and say who's this Jack we're not one tongue was exposed in that Red Sox game. So look he's checking in our buddy Moselle Moselle. Hey, they're doing this out. He Moselle before you get going iron springs. San Rafael Monday, November fifth lock going on back. Mondays. Yeah. They're gonna do it for my little league. Which is so nice. Believe it or not even in a wealthy community. Like mill valley, we have trouble getting all the fields in equipment coaches and umpires and all that stuff. So we appreciate you guys doing the give back Monday November five I'll be there. You know, there's that. And then there's talk of no Moselle you. I don't even know if well you probably noticed put Michael's been reaching out. There's talking another paulie MAC said will you play that night? I know I think one he wants to be forced December. Oh, but yeah. We're going to go ahead and do it again. Let's do it again. We'll do it again. You know that I set you played was Mazel. Yeah. But he's not to me. You know what? I mean. I'm pissed at myself. And I gotta make it right? I I had some mistakes out. There wasn't polished. Now, I'm gonna come back, and I'm going to practice harder. And I'm gonna I'm gonna play the whole new set you're going to be happy. I'll be happy, and it's gonna be a good night. All right. I'm calling in regards to that last caller. I'm surprised you let them go as long as he did. I mean, listen people always say what player would you want combat team? I don't want anybody from the dodgers, man. I hate that whole team hate what they're about. Yes. I don't care what talent level. I mean. It's kind of like the Odell Beckham junior thing. The guys the great receiver. But but I would never want him on my teenager. No. Well, said yes. Yeah. Moselle? Yeah. Inlets? Can we have some fun here? And I mean, everybody wants to tweet. Yeah. It's almost like how I felt back in ninety eight when the Redskins signed Dion Sanders. I was sick to my stomach. Redskin the a chapter missile back to return punts for this Ganz wasn't. He just had a flashback to him. And then union was really weird. Yeah. Mazovia good, man. They hired Marty Schottenheimer is the head coach the next year. And he refused to play Marty Schottenheimer. Thanks, guys. Good iron springs in Fairfax in San Cup of that jam session. I liked it and nine says, gee radnich is an avowed tweet fan. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You like to nine says, I don't think he says pool week. Does that kick like labor intensive Kofi to keep saying pool week? I didn't do it out of. Laziness. I'm too lazy? I didn't know I was saying like wrong or differently. Wrong. When people say, I say wolf wrong, you do say wolf Ron well four zero eight says blank, Johnny Roseborough. Yeah. That's teeth. Now, did you guys know Johnny rose? He's the guy who took the bat mirror show or pardon me was on was on the receiving end. If one marshalls bats, a div more politically incorrect a reference to then can expect as blank, Neil, the caller. Sure. Sure. "Lucky years, you know. We had one guy. I heard on offense year common doesn't always out that way. So I hope to weather the storm and get through it and win some close games hope to get healthier last year. Kyle Shanahan talking injuries. Welcome back to nine or pre-game. Larry Krueger, John Lund. Dennis Brown rank Kobe faithful miles we get you ready for the Niners and the cardinals here in week five guys where you're only in week five in the forty Niners have lost their to the highest paid. And probably the guys he thought were going to be the most prolific leaders weapons in this offense Jimmy Garoppolo and jerick McKinnon, and that's just kinda the way it is in the NFL. You don't know. You know, you don't know when the injuries are coming where they're going to come from. All you can do is try to make yourself as deep as possible. Build the deepest fifty three you can build the deepest practice squad. You can and cross your fingers. Dennis is not a lot. You can do the forty Niners. It's nothing that John Lynch or cow, Shannon have done that have led to McKinnon and Garoppolo going down. It's just draw. Yeah. And and you know, you didn't talk about marquees Gutman. I mean, he is the big play guy offense. You know, even if a Jimmy's gone in a in a McKinnon's gone, you've got your big play guy down the field. And now, you got more keys Goodwin. Who is not going to play today. And he's the guy that you went to all last season for that big place. So are the guys you kind of have to stand up injuries or a part of football. But I've never seen a team like the forty Niners. It seems like every week. They lose someone starting guy on the defense or the offense. And you know, if another guys go to another guy goes down in the secondary. I don't know what they're gonna do. Because you know, they got Richard Sherman is down, you know, Jimmy Ward's not up today. So if they lose someone else in its secondary, you know, I may have to go out there, and, you know, get some drops. Yeah. Maybe this is going to play with and play. It does look like sherman's gonna play as well. Mattie maiocco joined us earlier Richard Sherman gets per game. Bonuses, you can bet that he's going to go out there today. And like you said Goodwin was a guy that we expected a lot of re-signed with the forty Niners got a decent chunk of change had great report. Jimmy Garoppolo the entire season five fifty four and a touchdown through the first quarter of the season. And he's had a lot of injury problems. So that has reduced the effectiveness offensively, especially when it comes to big place. All right. Let's get upstairs. Tim Ryan joins us. Of course. Ted and Tim will be on the call for Niners cardinals. And and they'll carry that final hour from twelve twenty five right to kick off at one twenty five TIMMY there, I am here. And I'm right now in my head in my mind's icy and big Dennis Brown as a buzz defender. See you. Big daddy. No problem. The flat. Easily done easily. Denison. We we've known each other since high school might maybe it was my second year in Chicago. They're like these guys to sixty five he's at Twitter. See if he can play a little bit of linebacker because we played a lot of that bear defense. Right. So they put me in the metal off off the ball. Everything was great in the run game. And then they say we're to we might switch in. Dave mcginnis was the linebacker coach he goes t- rocket over here, man. We ran seven on seven. I lasted like three plays. He goes go back with the line. There's a reason quickly experiments of line watching the bell watching the belt. Buckle doesn't work. But yeah, it's it's hard to kind of cover those guys when you run backwards. I always found that really hard. Hey, Tim, real quick. Now, we're just talking about this defense. Now, do you see solid bringing some blitzes? I mean with this kind of patchwork in the second or do you see blitzes or you just saying I think you have to? I think you gotta mix it up. I think that's what you do against a rookie quarterback. Everyone would love to see you throw the kitchen sink out him, though is the risk worth the reward because he's got guys with some heat, man. And you look at. Couple of their receivers. Are we all know about Larry FitzGerald Christian Kirk? They they use them. Just like golden Tate was used in Seattle. And with the lions and a lot of the jet. Sweep Salata the underneath stuff. A lot of the shallow cross given an opportunity to to run with the football. So you can get you can get bit. If you're sending too much pressure at the wrong time having said that there's going to be times when you gotta get some heads on Josh Rosen and get him a little bit confused. I hope this crowd is is crazy loud today. I hope they're ready to go at one zero five because they could be a big asset for this defense. But I think you mix it up you're going to see and last week. I thought Sala in the players in particular when they didn't Busta coverage in a couple of times it got bit bet Ford on both of them. I thought he did a good job of disguising the coverages showing zone turning into man and vice versa. And all of those sleight of hand things need to be there today against his rookie quarterback because he can hit that deep ball, and he can thread the needle on the underneath stuff. Yeah. I believe that you can't let this this young kid get comfortable. In the pocket. I think you have to get after them get some hits on them disguise some coverages and kind of bit him into making a bad choice. Yeah. In the biggest thing is is don't bust man when you're uncover three don't bus rally up and tackle when you're when you got the four-man rush coming, obviously, you've gotta get some heat, and you got to defend and you gotta have tight coverage on these guys. I don't think they're worried Denison, and Larry and you guys about these receivers really running away from them. So I think we could see some more match up man versus these guys in Rosen now he will run and he's got some escape ability, especially when he's running up the middle of the pocket. But there's no question you cannot let him get comfortable. You gotta get him off his spot. Matthew was saying that. Someone who's who's outside. Russia coming up from the Ryan BelAir, and I'm gonna tell you something Denison. And you know, I spent a lot of time with the defensive line during during practice, and he was on Carolina's championship team a few years ago in the one that played came here and lost to Denver in the Super Bowl. And ironically enough still had practice squad eligibility left, which was which was crazy. He's he's not a guy. That's gonna. Wow, you're getting off the bus. Not the biggest not the fastest. But he's kind of like Sheldon day in tonight. Sheldon's technically the best pass rusher. And I think you'd agree when you watch him play. He's always imposition and good leverage positions to to make his moves work into finishes. Moves I think this guy's the same way. He brings twit quick twitch off the edge. And I think the beauty, and I think it's a message to the rest of the team these guys really do evaluate practice. And and if you practice, well, you're gonna have an opportunity getting uniform on Sunday, if you're one of those guys maven got the opportunity last week made the most of it and Delaware today in he can help him. And he's got quick twitch coming off the edge. And most importantly, I think once he gets there. He's got that. He's got the craftsmanship if you will in the balance to finish on guy. So we all know what the hot spot is. And it's the at rush and without inevitably do in my mind is get Solomon more inside on an offensive guard where he's got a two way. Go that's where he's at his best. Jim Ryan is joining us from the booth is we're getting ready for the cardinals and the forty Niners Levi stadium. John lund. Larry Krueger and Dennis Brown. Speaking of the defense. I would imagine that Josh Rosen's best friend today. Other than the offensive line. Move checked it his David Johnson who hasn't really broken out both in the running game and something that has plagued the forty Niners out of the backfield. What do you think and how they'll handle him? Well, that's the key matchup for sure is him. I mean, look I think it was sixteen he had twenty one hundred plus all purpose yards. The guy is a problem. Not no question about it. And they're going to run they'll run a lot of you'll see three or four screens in this game. That is a key matchup on the linebackers, especially when they're in some of the cover three stuff with the linebackers. Got look inside a lot of play action. Then he's got to get out to the running back and go make that tackle that guy's heart attack on space. That's been an issue. I do think tart coming back and Richard Sherman being out there. And it's the best. I've seen the communication all year in practice. Those guys need to be tightened up. And Fred Warner in better. He gets in. The more experiences is get no more. I buy elation quarterbacks staring out of the window to throw right behind you. All. All that stuff has to get cleaned up. And I think it will there's going to be Rubin's third game back. No question about it. And if the team's not busting on the back end in giving me gimmes, it will be it'll be a tough day. I think for the Arizona Cardinals running the ball. And then we'll see what happens in terms of the past game. But as long as they don't bus coverage guys should be in position to make some place. It's here one for Steve Wilks zone. Four is looking for that first win, you know, coach with Ron Rivera and Carolina. And I know he's a Jim Johnson disciple. This is a four to five look that they show a lot of times with three safeties. Antoine buffet Buddha. Baker and trae Boston plan like ninety seven percent of the snaps Tim where where do you tack? If your where's the mismatch on the defense? I think well number one you're going to get into some some regular personnel and keep the full back on the field, and and right there. I mean when you're going against the even a big nickel team. They got one extra smaller body there a fast fly around defense, very aggressive in terms of what Ron Rivera. I mean last year, I think this team at fifty so Marcus golden is doesn't look completely healthy. And he is given the forty Niners fits he's not to jump in on you. But John just looked at the inactive list, Goldens, actually, one of the. There you go. I watched tape from last week, and he he did not look the same Somalia. Brinson mayo. Be that guy. I think you run at the edges. I really do. And and I think the tight ends gotta be huge in some of the down blocks wide. Ray you watch Seattle tape, and they were wearing them out with some of those outside powers and some of those outside tosses. So I think what you do is. You is your hammer the edges Chandler Jones is a great pass rusher. A great guy that can get in the backfield and wreak havoc. When he's getting penetration. Promise you don't wanna play the run. He don't wanna play the down block in the tackle around. I see it on tape. So I think you attack the edges I'd love to see Brita with at least twenty touches in this game. And then I think once you hit the edges I think everything's gonna open up in the middle including some read zone place. I think they're going to be there to hit there as well. Again. I think it's got to be close to thirty runs in this game. That's the blueprint for a win. And I think there'll be a lot of yards if they can achieve that out on the edge. As far as you give me your insights into into CJ last week, obviously he played better. But specifically what did you see that made him better from his rookie year to last week ball out quicker? I think that was obvious change in plays in terms of seeing what he sees and everything slowing down for them. You can see that. So all that stuff to me was better..

"Estate awesome spot, by the way, if you wanna come watch NFL ball, you got big screen TV's firepit twenty eight beers on tap. Great food all kinds of people hanging out price tag to. Yeah. Yeah. Perfect. All right. Five minutes before we hand the reins to Tim and Ted. They'll carry carry the final hour right to kick off one twenty five kickoff today by the way week four Niners chargers. Dennis you've got a final thought or or what's the key to victory today? Well, the key to victory is somehow keeping Philip rivers off the football field play sound defense, fundamental defense make the tackles. No your assignments. And you got to somehow figure out on the back in how to make plays the forty Niners need turnovers today. We're talking about you know, the short field. We're talking about you, interceptions fumbles. So it has to be some big plays and defense and you gotta get a short field for this forty Niners often. Somehow, I think that you know, what I think the start is key. I think that that last week they just got avalanched early. And I think there's the potential for that. If as we've talked about you got to run the ball with Matt Brita, you gotta tackle. We gotta do the basic things. I don't know how they're gonna react with Jimmy without Jimmy Garoppolo. But I have a weird feeling which who knows what that means that they're going to rally around C J a little bit. Everybody's got to play a little bit better. Not do too much but play better, I think the tackling it's been talked about so much. I think it's going to be better. But my concerns obviously, you don't have Richard Sherman out there. This is a really high high potency offense. Philip rivers is always talked about is one of the most underrated quarterbacks out there. You just gotta get off to a good start get some confidence. And you know, what's going to be interesting today? Mattie maiocco, talked about at Ted Robinson talked about it. Well, look, I mean, I think you have to operate under the assumption that to have some involvement in setting the scope, but if you go back and watch the tape Senator Jeff flake said that he supported this investigation where the scope and the amount of time was limited. So that was actually the assumption from day one that the scope and the amount of time. It'd be limited. I feel like in this case Democrats have actually been moving the bar to go back to a few. Days ago. Hey, man, we want, you know, all we want the investigation it only took three days for Clarence Thomas is is that asking too much. That's not that's ridiculous to this south for one week. How can you deny that as soon as Republicans agree to do the limited scope we start hearing. It's not enough. It's never going to be enough. And I think Donald Trump is critical as I've been over the years. I think that'll problem is actually sort of right? There's never going to be enough. You can do with really wouldn't be enough. This is a really difficult situation. I agree with. Senator char that it is tearing the country apart. Okay. So so Paul when when you hear limited in scope, what does that entail to you? Because we're also hearing a are vogue, and Jim Acosta reporting they've learned for sources that Christine Blasi affords people say she has not yet been contacted by the FBI. So what does limited in scope to you with the more obvious? Character is be a part of the investigation like Blasi Ford. Well, the the FBI has been instructed to do a one week investigation. So limited in scope means how many important witnesses can we speak to in a week. And the as the agents are looking at this. They know what Kavanagh's position is on it. And they also heard blazey Ford's testimony under oath as to what happened. They haven't spoken to Mark judge. So judge is a critical witness the second critical witness would be I think who drove her from the party home. If it was a close friend, wouldn't she have said something to the close friend about this assault if it occurred. So if I were an FBI agent investigating this. I'd be all over that. Where is this witness? And why hasn't that witnessed the named as far as I can tell the witnesses who were downstairs, probably we're not in a position to see or know anything. So I think the critical witnesses marked judge and whoever drove her..

"Matt ema? Mattie maiocco will be there for NBC sports bay area. Good morning, Mattie. Another fantastic. Good morning guys. Yeah. Yeah. So our big angle is pressure on Jimmy G. He's pressure now. Right. He's got he's got he's had the first Nick in his in his perfect resume. Yeah. I mean, he's still looks good. There's no question about that. Once you sign the contract in once you're not just you know, the the flavor of the month in in your coming in. And now, it's you know, he came in last year with with zero pressure, and it was it was kind of seen as anything. He did was going to be an improvement over what the forty Niners had. And there were so many built in excuses excuses. But real reasons why he should not have succeeded last year those final five gains, but he did got the big contract. And now and now it's on in week one. I mean, this isn't breaking news. You wasn't a great game. And some of it was his fault. And a lot of it wasn't his fault. But when you're the quarterback, you take all that stuff on any end. When when you're the quarterback when when the wide receiver like Kendrick born ones the wrong route in you get a pick six it's still. Your fault because it goes on your stats sheet at the end of the year when you're looking at how a guy played no one ever says. Yeah. But he'll x number of those passes were actually you'll those intercepted asses. Rationally the fault of of a teammate. Nobody ever says that so yeah, it's definitely on for Jimmy G. All right, Mattie. Good stuff in the lines out seems to be in big picture a favorable matchup. Right. I mean, even before they got squashed by the jets, which was incredible unbelievable. He gets for the jets at home. So that extreme I mean, it was just unbelievable even before that this appeared to be on paper favorable matchup right now. It's like it's almost like you've got this is a no brainer. You got to win this game. Yeah. I think coming out of the game in Minnesota. Even though it was a loss. It's to a really good team in the way that game went. I mean it. I don't know kinda conflicted on this. Because there's the way that thing went with as many missed opportunities as years had you would kind of think. Okay. They they must have lost by, you know, twenty four points, but they were right there at the end. And then so you come out of that game going. I mean, they could have easily gotten away from them. But when you think they should have won that game. So I don't know that anybody expected them to go to Minnesota and win. Now, this is the game. Where y'all a good team wins this game? You know, a good team does not start too. This is a pretty tough game stretch. I thought the chargers would be better than they were weak line. But when you look at the these first four games, this is the one home game. And the other three road games are are going to be difficult. So you have to win the games that you should win. Win. And this is a game they should win. Hey, as we always look for storylines and different angles. Mattie coming into this game. How how much of a factor? Do you think Patricia would be on the game plan on his knowledge of garoppolos tendencies, or whatever those might be from all the time they spent in in New England. I think that I think that that is an issue or something to kind of keep an eye on or keeping the back of your head. Also, I think calcium he had to spend a little bit of time looking over a Super Bowl fifty one where Patricia was a defensive coordinator. Yeah. And made made some adjustments in the second half of that game to do some good things from from the patriots standpoint, of course against the. In helping them come back to that to the big win in Super Bowl fifty one. So yeah, I think that you know, wouldn't win Patricia takes on this this approach. He's looking at you know, what he knows about what Kyle Shanahan does. And certainly you'll how that meshes with what Jimmy Garoppolo does. And he has six games that he can look back on now the most relevant being the game against the Vikings to kind of see after a fall off season what calcium and is kind of settling into as far as how this offense functions with Garoppolo at the hell talking to Matt maiocco NBC sports bay area. Forty Niners lions this Sunday Levi stadium. Matt is the linebacker situation. Pretty dire going into this weekend. With now the story of Brock coil being out and knock him Smith continued question-mark absence. And now are we looking at Fred Warner and xochimilco? Well, I probably Elisha Lee Martinez arches on the he's like a strong side guy. Yeah. I mean, I would say inside linebacker and right guard are two spots where at this point in the week the forty Niners don't know for certain who they're going to have. I would think it at linebacker Elijah Lee came in when Brock coil was injured. We one I would think that that would be the way that they'd be leaning. You know, a guy who's been around now for a couple of years knows the system has a working understanding of what he's supposed to do. But to me, the bigger question is on the other side, you know with. Right guard where Mike person got banged up as a foot strain. Don't know if he can go looking at at Josh regarding Ed hobble through the locker room yesterday. I'm fairly certain that he can't go. They picked up a veteran guy last week. Matt Tobin who's a guard the elevated a UCLA guy Najji Tauron who's is coming in as a guard. So there's yeah. Last week. It got to the point where NFL teams only carry seven offense lineman on on game day because of the forty six player active roster. So you only have the two backups and both backups had to come in one left. Dr Ned with the injury, Gary Gilliam, who's the backup cackle ended up going to tackle mcglinchey did something he's never had to do it his life, which is slide over. Play guard. So that ended up. Yeah. I mean, I think it costs the forty Niners the two degree last week. But that is probably the biggest part of where they have to kind of short things up going into this game any quick word on marquees Goodwin. Best bet. I mean, I know we're all guests in here. But just asking for guess. Yeah. My guess would be no. Because he's a he's a he's a speed guy ride. So if he's he's a little bit slower than normal than you know, what's the purpose? You'll you got a big guy who can kinda ward defenders off and make plays with his body. His game is speed. And so speed route running. So I would think that you know, that's a deep deep die contusion, and you could see how much it bothered him a week ago. I just my guess would be he doesn't play. So a lot more Dante Pettis. Yeah. And and the cat licking pause celebration. Right. You know what? I mean. Yeah. Hey, you know, sure. Why why not never seen before? At least that. Right. Exactly, mattie. It's something new valley last two minutes here red zone red zone red zone. Everything we talking red zone. They were twenty-seventh last year and went one for four yesterday's it's going to be just going to haunt Kyle Shanahan until he shakes the boogeyman off his shoulders here. Yeah. I think so just because now, you know, people who you know, even the casual fans who didn't even know what the red zone was. They know about it. Now. Yeah. Yeah. So it's a it's a talking point. Right. So every time they get into the red zone. I people are going to be like, oh, hey there in the red zone. Okay. Let's particular close attention to what's going on. You know, Kyle. If of course cows knocking to say all we have problems in the red zone. And and he was quick to point out that okay? We don't fumble. At the one yard line is if Jimmy doesn't overthrow an open Kittle, if you know Garcia comes down with that ball that he got up got bumped on but had both hands on a three touchdowns right there. And all of a sudden, we're four four. So you know, that I did his point is you don't panic. The plays were there to be made. There wasn't something fundamentally wrong. He was a different reason each time they failed. So yeah, I his point. Also is that you'll good offenses tend to do better in the red zone. And he believes that this is a good offense. And I you know, let's let's measure them as the season goes on. I think week one in Minnesota against that defense. Yeah. I don't think anybody really wants to be judged on that. Right. So let let's see where it goes from here. But I think all eyes are going to be you know on the forty Niners. Once they get inside the opponent's twenty we have Ronnie Lott every Friday, Mattie in one of the things he'll say sometimes about pressure. You said the booty hole gets tight. And so so maybe inside the red zone. I hope that doesn't happen. We'll see. After the game. Yeah. Red zone. Did you booty hoagie tight? Sports barrier. That'd be first question. Yeah. That'd make them headline. Yeah. Well, listen, I I'd be celebrating that question by licking the back of my palm. Nice Mattie on that beautiful note. Well, rounded note, we'll see you Sunday, Mattie. Thanks for the time. Okay. Sounds good. Thanks, guys. That's Matt maiocco. One football guy to the next Adam Schefter on these sports later.

"Terms of what he brings. Now that doesn't mean you can't have an effective one game. And you can't do two things. Kyle wants to do, but it won't be at the same level. Greg Cosell, the host of the matchup shown ESPN and producer at NFL films stopping by earlier in the week on kmby are six eighty talking about the forty Niners loosened jerick McKinnon and it was the game plan to add a dynamic weapon. Like McKinnon who believe it or not? This was going to be a huge day for him going against his former Viking teammates and McKinnon's done for the year. So next man up. It's the NFL on the next man up is is Alfred Morris, and Matt Brita and guys Morris has had three thousand yard seasons was really good in Dallas last year. He's never missed a game six NFL seasons. Life after McKinnon. What do you think the forty Niners going to struggle mightily all season long to run the ball? And they're gonna struggle today to run the ball with Morrison Brita. I'm impressed with with Moore's I mean for what I saw. And I think you know, he's familiar with a cow Shanahan offense. And he understands that track blocking and he understands how to be patient. He understands how to wait for that block were for that that lane to open up for him. I like I like what I saw in the preseason with amuses strong runner. He falls fort. He runs downhill he's in front of his pads. And you know, frankly, I I was excited to see breed of this year. I mean, I think he had a great season last. I think he was going to be that dynamic received McKenna. I didn't follow him that much last year with Minnesota. But I know he's he's a guy that you want to get isolated on on a linebacker one on one. It's a mismatch because he's so quick. And he's so fast and shifting space. But I was more excited about Brita. But then worse, you know, came around and I was excited. I think the run game going to be all right? I'm I'm I'm more worried about that offensive line. That's what I'm more worried about right now. I think the run game is going to be there. I like what Morris did in the preseason. And you look back. Look he had a great couple. I seasons with Washington with caution handed RG three and they're running to the zone read offense. It's obviously different now. But I think he's gonna have to carry the load, and then breed is going to have to be maybe what McCain was catching balls out of the backfield. Everybody says that he was his hand picked guy who could run who could throw our excuse me run. He could catch. I thought that. That's what he was going to do more than run it. Maybe it was going to run it eight or ten times a game. But then he was going to catch it five six seven times a game. And that's where I think where value is going to be. I think Brady can do those kinds of things today, especially because Morris has done it. I just think from a standpoint of you're going into Minneapolis. This is a really good defense overall. I think they're going to they're going to really try to stop the run and say, okay, Jimmy, go ahead. It's going to be tough. I don't know that they're gonna run the ball whole heck of a lot. But in McKinnon's case, I don't know, you know, he was kind of been going to be a split thing. Anyway. So. Plus, you see McKenna as a is it three down. I never saw him as he down bad though. But I think he was gonna get thirty million dollars. But he was going to be a guy who was just gonna he was gonna catch the ball. Brought the team. You know, I didn't see him being a featured back. I saw being a situational. Babs you make you design plays specifically for him to get isolated on a linebacker after you set up your short passing game you're long passing game and you run game. Then you bring him in for the mismatch. That's what I saw Matt you're gonna put him linebacker a safety on this guy. There's no way when when he was in Minnesota, he split out wide. They ran a lot of screens forum things like that plays Bill into the office or not I down and the ball off because you know, he's a little cat. Yeah. But he's gonna he's the only. He did have like thirty three reps of two twenty five the combine. So this this is a small gab a guy who spent a lot of time in the weight room. I mean, the one thing I was expecting. I thought he was going to be absolutely an ideal fit for this outside stretch running game. And a guy when you factor in the quickness that Garoppolo can get the ball out. And the accuracy that he throws that pass in the flat. And this guy's ability to make one guy miss in space and go the distance. I mean, I think there was every reason to believe that he was going to have a monster year as far as receiving yards. But Alfred Morris is no slouch either. And I believe Alfred Morris last year was fourth in the NFL in yards after contact per attempt. So this guy breaks tackles, and he's got a little picking side. We saw in the indie game he's real comfortable at any real veteran. As far as the vision the being able to run behind your blocks to run to daylight so to speak. I think they're. A lot of the they're going to be a different team and not nearly as dynamic without McKinnon. But I don't think they take dramatic steps back with Morris because he's not in his thirty three. He's twenty nine. Yeah. Primarily still in the prime years of his career. And he's familiar like I said, he's familiar with that whole scheme. I'm sure the tech the terminologies changed a little bit since the Redskins, but he understands and the and the key thing they'd understands is like you said those runs I mean being patient and waiting for the I mean, that's what the cow Shanahan offenses about those tracks reading it from the outside all the way back down to the center, and understanding, you know, how the defense is flowing, and where those lanes are going to open up, and he showed that you know in the indie game. I mean, very patient and just running taking your time take your time. And when you see that lane open hit run downhill, then fall forward, and I think that's where he's got what he's going to bring to this offense is just him being familiar with the offense and understanding the terminology. See I agree with you. I think that Alfred Morris is probably your first down back depending on how many yards you get. In breed is going to be what maybe McKinnon was the difficulty today is Minnesota was second the league last year to give up Eighty-three rush yards a game three point seven yards a carry which was in the top five. They just they don't give up a lot of Russia yards. And what Mike Zimmer does is? He puts those linebackers in the gaps any just challenges in those guys are gonna be up there kendricks is going to be up. There bar is going to be up there. They got a great defensive line. Linda Bill Joseph is a pro bowler. He's three hundred and thirty pounds logs safeties. They got from Cincinnati Harrison Smith by be the best free safety in all football. Those guys are gonna come up, and they they're gonna Xavier Rhodes be interesting. We'll hear from Mattie maiocco at the bottom of the hour. I don't know of roads is playing but again, another big corner if they can put their corners out on islands and just trust those guys and bring everybody up to stop the run is it's going to be a long day. But I think it's going to be Morris on first down. He's veteran as as Dennis said he can handle that. And then I think Brady is going to be a change of pace guy. I don't think there's any doubt about that. And. You know, the Kyle's asked this week house Brita looking course, breathe that went down in the first preseason game on a regular pass blocking situation. And and was hurt didn't play the rest of the preseason. Shanahan city is fantastic and practice, and I would imagine he's going to be a key part of this game plan here in week one against the Vikings. But you know, it's funny dentist you'll get. This Viking dean, we'll get more into it. But on all three levels. You know? I mean, it's it's a phenomenal. They were ten of their eleven starters. As John said Harrison Smith's the best free safety in the game. Kendricks is twenty five Anthony bars. Twenty six that you know, they're Pro Bowl caliber players roads is a number one corner. Deos a, you know, a hell of a safety at strong safety. They gotta get a low kinda got Winfield. Joseph Sheldon Richardson. It's a loaded team. That's on defense. It's not just it's not just a good team. It's a T defense that is played together. And log some time on the field together. And it's going be a hard team to fool. Yeah. And and and and and there are physical defense to and the key is going to get them on. How do you get on their toes? I mean, how do you get them run inside line the sideline instead of having writing up the field? How do you get those safety's not sitting there just biting on those you know, those short game which sets up the run game. So, you know, it's it's gonna be tough. And it's like it's going to be the offensive line. I mean, how what are they gonna do a front? How are they going to get these guys knocked off the ball because they're coming? They're coming. Like, you said they're veteran teams or physical team they played well together, and they put pressure on the quarterback, and they can do it from their base front. So it's going to be a challenge for that offensive line against specially in the inside there. No question about it. Niners off into line three new starters. It's one of the major subplots of the season. How does that line come together? Most notably with the rookie, right? Tackle, mike. Glenn? She who's gonna probably draw Daniel hunter who's a speed rusher. And a talented one at that through through most of the day. All right. Let's take a timeout. We're gonna get out to Minneapolis next segment. Matt maiocco is gonna join us. We'll check in on. What's breaking as we get you ready for kickoff? Niners and Vikings today on KOA ten KTLA Ted something sound like science fiction, but could soon be possible. We've learned how to.

"Because you have, the. Down and distance on. The field and a big thing, and it's it's. Color coordinated with, the team that's on offense all, kinds of stuff I just think, with the not even the kids nowadays it's guidance guys were kids? Fifteen twenty, years ago that. Are probably in their early thirties late twenties I wonder if they're like try. To make it look like a video game All the stuff on the screen interesting point, there's so. Many kids are used to, like football and it looks like a video game Well I mean Madden is a video game but it's like well let's make. The real. Thing kind of look like a video game somehow and they put different colors on there L. the younger generation maybe as used to that but they would freak. Out, they wouldn't, watch the on ESPN classic, where they didn't, even, show the school that part that's that's a that's good technology that we always have the t- the score on Drove me crazy like like like you say, ESPN classic and you watch. Game you're like what the hell's the score how much time is dragging crazy but that. You know what I didn't think of it like that that's a good point because Again it goes back to like when a uniform when they have certain uniform especially in college football or something, we you know we sit here and go oh terrible. But the younger generation will buy likes, it maybe that's. What they, are trying to do. Because essentially, what's happening in, all of TV not just sports. Is how, do? We get to watch, how do we get and watch, how to even watch they already have us like it's heroin we're. Watching it you know it If you're. A football fan we're they, we're the whatever the hardcore the p. one type of fan where my, kid is much as he loves. It, he isn't, because he knows he can, watch it, later get the highlights now get hit up. On Twitter Instagram like he knows it it's coming to him it's going to get delivered to him and he's not gonna miss anything so maybe, that maybe that is they are trying to make video. Game ish to appeal to him I, don't know I. Just love when When? Michael was talking about the green zone you'll get a new thing called, the zone this year and I think you're gonna like it you know we're not gonna like, you don't like now he's old snow cones. Worth doesn't like it IGA, course you, guys don't like it why, don't you like a good stupid that's why it's it's unnecessary that's the problem and. It distracts I can still watch the game not a. Problem with still follow the ball but it's distracting, what, do I need this. Like do I need. If it's like third and a happy little liberal green line in there. We're just going to show you where he needs to get crossed the green beyond the yellow and. We should be. Okay at that point I, think it's Kinney garden color within the lines So idiotic. Okay can. You follow this yeah can follow it I see Did we put everything, beyond the line of scrimmage going the opposite, direction, like pink called me it's going to happen and it'll be like. Oh you got to get outta, the pink. Zone into the green. Zone. And beyond the Ila? Line, touchdown it's credible. Go away Jeez Maybe you could able to pop up of Katy Perry singing while the whole thing is going on candy. Land Yeah Much too much too much too much too much too much too much too. Much that's. In it's like even even even baseball goes a little bit too far and they don't do much with the field which I, like. Yeah I, mean it's stupid launch, angles dumb rate that exit velocities, fine but at least they leave the fields, alone basketball Canada's that I'm trying to think they'd do anything in. Basketball it's kinda. Goofy I don't really. Know football's really the only. "Of dynamics? Going on there now I, do think if you were to, poll, people. Up and down baseball operations that minimum this is conversation and at maximum there are, people who. Would believe hey you know our long term health our best news here's the trade Madison Bumgarner and try to get you know some good prospects for him, and probably that was the best move you know two years ago or year ago anyway The more you know on his contract value as a trade but I. Think we, all know how ownership operates don't how the giants offering and it would. Just be stunning to. Me, if they traded Bumgarner before opening day next year because that's, just not the way that, they have, ever operated it would be so out of character for them to do that, so you know there's two? Conversations we can have right one is, should they, think about doing that in the second conversation is will they do that and I think that the first conversation just, probably more, interesting because the second one. The is probably a hard and fast now hey. Before, we let you go if you look across the bay man the as are, just this, incredible story I mean forty six and twenty two since the first, of, June I, mean they've been the, biggest surprise team, of in baseball for sure they have done it, with power, and bullpen I mean some in some ways you could argue is, the definition, of modern MLB they're fifty an hour When they lead. After seven if they get a lead in the seventh it's a, done deal and they hit the ball in the air they, ranked twenty ninth in? Ground ball percentage they hit the ball in the air they're sixth in the big, leagues and home runs they hit home runs, and, they got a killer Penn. Do you think that the giants out, of steel that template when they're trying. To rebuild is that just the way it's done in today's baseball. Where the, giants are thinking starting pitching starting pitching starting pitching in reality they should just kind of make do with. Whatever starters, you can get load up on power hitters and you know seventh eighth. And ninth inning pitchers Well you know I I we were in LA the other day and I mentioned about some Bumgarner how many complete games the giants. Had and he gets zero and he was right and I, said how many dodgers zero and he, was right and Padres Rockies zero there's one complete. Game the entire National League West this year Patrick Corbin, did it against the giants of. Other Diamondbacks so I mean yeah the game is changing but I really. Do believe that if you have that number, one who can throw you a complete game you know six or. Eight times a year like a Corey kluber. It gives your bullpen just a complete. Day off and allows them to recharge because I. Think the other option is you have like eight really. Good relievers that you can cycle through to keep these guys from getting burned out so? I think that there is a balance you can strike but to your point about power bullpen I think, the bullpen part works, at eighteen park the power part is a little tougher, because you know you have to be more proficient the giants, have, to be more proficient about You know supplying, power hitting home runs on the road to compete on. The, road it's, been a, couple of years now they've been you, know terrible on the road but they also have to keep in mind that they play half games in their ballpark. And if they're, relying on home runs. Too much and that could be a recipe. For Astor so you know I think it's it's probably more. Complicated question because of that but there's no question this. Team he's more, power, yeah no question about, that a bags good stuff thanks for stopping by yeah no problem good talking with you Andy bag early, covers the giants for the athletic man when, you look at that. As rotation I mean they're going to the playoffs they get Shamanee's they Trevor k. hill turf Kate anybody could have had Trevor kale giants cake tires on Kahlil in March Brett Anderson who couldn't stay healthy for anybody but the. As now he looks like a world beater in Edwin Jackson, and they are rampaging in headed towards, October who who would have thought let's take a. Timeout Greg posts Greg Cosell top of the hour we'll, talk a little forty nine raider. Football check in with one of our favorites And then at noon Warren. Sapp at twelve thirty five, Mattie maiocco.

"Lineman do it just how. He responds to those struggles so I think it's an, exciting year that CNN has more of the pieces in place that he wants for his offense mad before I let you go I want to, ask you what about the division? The NFC west I think Seattle and Arizona both have taken steps back going into twenty. Eight t, but when it comes to the Rams and the forty Niners I think. They got the two hottest play playcallers in the league with McVeigh's Shanahan but who has the better roster Oh I think the Rams do. Yawn on paper I think it's pretty clear, the the Rams have the best Rosser what I'm really curious. To. See is just how the pieces fit, for the Rams I think. I have a pretty good idea of how the pieces fit for the forty. Niners and I don't think there are, any chemistry, issues or anything of that sort I think all the people they brought in there's a, specific need for them and you'll guy. Who's a dominant personality type of player like Richard Sherman I think he sits well with kind of a laid-back understated defensive. Backfield so I think he fits. Really well with those guys I like the chemistry? On the forty. Niners the that the Rams. Went out and they played fantasy football you know they. Got some some really big personalities to bring to that team, and it'll be interesting to see how they mesh 'cause you know football at the, NFL level it's it's not fantasy You know you. Can't just necessarily grabbed the best players and, shovel on your team And expect them all to perform it's how, the pieces fit so the Rams definitely I, think on paper had the better roster but how they fit together as a team how, they, call ask as a team will really determine how. Far that team can go Matt thank you. So much for the time this evening it is always. Great to, talk to you I look forward to speaking with you throughout the season All right thanks a lot appreciate, it exert that's our forty Niner insider Mattie, maiocco at mayo co NBC s on Twitter let's continue this forty nine or NFL discussion, I, love it anyway KB arts and numbers to homefront..
