I used to lick the back of his neck and stuff after doing the show when he would come in at a remember that you're bringing back memories here and but i'll tell you what gordon when i i did started doing the radio show. It was. that's where i met you at. I guess it was oh. Sr ottawa sports radio. One al davis was was the program director and i was brand new. You know and the and the first show i did. Al invited me. And i i was. I was mc a roast for brian kilrea. And that's how i met alley came up to me after it was a riot that night and he said jeez. You gotta jump on the radio you know. You're one of my buddies. Kept bugging me on. Then he met and walk by went onto the radio on the so went in the very first morning i forget who the guy was but he was sort of ryan scott. It might have been brian scott and anyway i came in. I was super nervous. I didn't know what to expect that i was asking. What am i supposed to do that. Don't worry this guy. I'll take you through it and you know you just you just do whatever you want. You know sort of thing. And and i went in there and i said hey i i'm jungle gym you know and i guess brian goes oh okay and i was like well doesn't sound like it's going to be a lot of fun and he said so. So what's your deal i. Just i don't know. I was asked to command and sort of sit in and have some fun and maybe tell some jokes and he goes well. It's a sports station. You know so anyway. I'm in the fetal position and he goes anyway. We got this guy on today and He's it's jim is it. yeah and it was just. It was being being bounded like a boost and it just went down and down and the guy wasn't interested in it. And and i guess i find out after al calls me after the show i go into the office. I'm just drained. I'm like this is the worst experience of my life. Okay i got an house laughing his head off. I heard this outta go. Awful man is off because yeah well. A lot of these guys are always nervous about new guys coming in and they get a little threatened. I guess whenever we bring people in which it was so he said we're going to try some other guys with you and he said tomorrow afternoon You're going to sit in with with gord wilson. Okay gorge you. You're doing some hosting of the afternoon show is a great guy. And you're gonna love me. I know of gordon from from the sense and and then you came in and we're laughing like a three six days great to meet you. Jimmy can't wait to do this. And don't worry about things and and look after this and i just felt like ten million times better you know how nice you were and gordy the the best straight man ever okay because my wife was pregnant at the time and late interpol costs. You're not bringing this story for sure. Guardian for sure. Okay so something. She's late in pregnancy. And a bunch of a bunch of unflattering stuff happens to women you know when they're about to give birth and so do and i'm. I'm following along with her and we go over to the hospital. I guess and all. You're not quite ready. So go home. And we'll probably see a back here in a day or two and okay and then i'm doing the show and gordon concerns is here we are. We got jungle. Gym get some great story jungle. How's it going and i go. My wife lost her. And there's a pause right and goes who. I hope you'll find it. I don't even know what it meant and gordon with a missing pizza. That's great you. Know if i could give you a hand at all. Maybe we'll go look for it and it was the best experience of my life gordian i it really on a serious note it it made it. I said i wanna do this man. I want to do this and we did. We did a bunch of shows just fantastic. And he's a terrible influence on your gorgeous what it comes down to. I think about that story. Think about you know when he kind of pushed you in the direction of defining what a threesome. What my mom. I forgot i forgot. That was awful. It was the best. It was the big question you know. I got a question i think. What if you're getting plowed and a dog comes in. Is that a three. So i i think it was look bomb but anyway i have to. This is credible. Nhl journalist talking about here jimmy. How dare you. He's the best. I've been a fell in love with gordon back then. I still am in coming on here today in thinking about coming on here today with you to you know who i kept thinking of the producer. Talk sure my gosh the second guts bloated sack guts and the end of the day though an enabler. That's what he was everything. Fantastic yeah versions and those were the days that out that all ended. I forget how it got fired. So i love when you came on one time. I don't know two or three years after you were let go jimmy and you came on and just as a guest spot and just just catching up. Your first thing is said. Is you jumped on the line now. Where was i before. I was so rudely. I i i say the podcast. Forget your word word. Goggles dirty word spilling be you got to. There's a guy who saved all those clips gordon yes. Tv introduced himself to stevie and and all that all that stuff is on there in the in the days when when shock radio was alive. And well you know you don't say yes or no all your game there. That was fantastic. And you know what else comes to mind. Obviously yesterday with the passing the john muckler your dominant cash impersonation was very very good. I've had about a million requests for when mattie mock la. John bob not to be good guy. Good out watch double crotch double into injury and what was it. Steve reflector reflector muscles conductor muscles. That's okay. I i see that dr michael and dr Anyway got mattie my great guy. We talked about mucks yesterday. So how'd you gordie like everything is good. I mean this kovin thing is affected you more than most of our friends starting right out of the gate with a positive diagnosis on that last road trip out west back in march. How's your health for health is good thank. You all is good. Get back to normal here a lot of breath at times but that's just because of fat and all turned in about seven days which is That all better keep this short. He might fall asleep. The that'll be my impersonation of you in a morning show so yeah but yeah all is good like everybody else You know we talked before we started this little stir-crazy and ten months ten months and not being able to go to the rank has not been pleasant. This is Twenty nine years of covering senators hockey air and We've experienced a few difficulties over the years but obviously nothing like this so Anxious to get back and get back into a semi routine Doing what i love best. That's for sure. yeah so. How's that going to work this year. You get a brand new season. That's happening starting next week and kobe is still upon us. Maybe talk a little bit about how that's going to affect your job in particular when it comes to covering a game day skate or the actual play by play itself. Yeah and i think the word that best describes the whole scenario is it's fluid middle change probably on a daily basis or certainly on a weekly basis or just waiting Were on word from the federal government and the provincial government to give us the okay to re enter scotiabank a apartment canadian tire center To cover the games were right now. Following training camp via zoom so After teams skates skates scrimmages. And things like that we off on the zoom machine and interviewer players that way. Find out certain things Go from there. It's a totally different kind of preparation. Obviously so yeah with the senators. Starting on the fifteenth of january were kind of We get the word from the various governments levels of government to say you're okay to go into the rank. My guess is from getting inside the rank Training camp will be covered from the press. Box and We'll be in our booth basically for the broadcast of games and if that doesn't happen will be calling home games from eighty seven george street down on the market. So what about road games. Gordon if we look at the whatever it is now the corporate name of the canadian division sponsor yesterday so are all cities playing in their own cities. I should know this. But but of course that. That's the whole but now as it stands right now i think ontario and manitoba are the only two provinces jungle that have not said yes. Ornate two teams playing in their home. Rinks it looks as though it's going to happen But until there's a definitive word It's still up in the air and the season starts for the leaves on. Well we tonight so they need to know. They're they're they're mayor has said yeah. We're okay with you know the protocols that have been put in place now. They need word from the provincial government and the federal government to say you're good to go and once that happens then it'll be fine go ahead jungle. You've got a question at the back. You're gonna have to ended up to stop john garden. That's for me. That's the lesson steve gave me. You know yeah. I question though question. I'm almost sixty two by the way. So but i'm still following along quite well So let's walk through. Walk us through then gored let let's say winnipeg does come in. Let's use them as example and you're going to travel to winnipeg With the team. What happens in terms of locked down and quarantined. And all that when you get to the airport you guys off all after bubble at the hotel. You have to travel in the same bus or what. Explain how it's gonna work well very good question. I should've stopped. You're right at what happens if because we're not gonna travel. Nhl has announced that there will be no broadcasters traveling with teams and we're fortunate for those who don't know dina meyer in a situation or a position where The company bell media in this case Has a deal with the senators to allow to broadcasters to travel with the team. And it's been like that since the beginning of time We've been lucky enough to be able to do that. up until this year the nhl has said nope there will be only team personnel on charter flights. So we are not traveling where we're not going on the road we will definitely be calling games From a studio somewhere whether it be a canadian dire center or whether it be at eighty seven george street but just a unfortunate but it's the way of the world You know for the plan series that we saw go off so well in toronto and edmonton in the summertime Almost every broadcaster was off site For those games there were some obviously the national. Broadcasters were onsite. I think doc emrick on. Nbc was in the comforts of his debasement in michigan. Doing most of the games For his calls. So what do you think you. Tarot says no to the sends and the leafs were will they play is is. It is a natural that you go to the bell centre and playing montreal. Yeah my guess is. Montreal would be the the city of choice for both for both teams toronto and ottawa proximity wise. It just makes sense Getting an opportunity to play at the bell centre In an nhl rink with an nhl facility would would certainly make sense You know if it doesn't happen in ontario they have to go somewhere else. The next closest province would be la belle province in in quebec Davi of manitoba says no as well. Then you know. Do they go to saskatoon. Not likely right okay. Let's take our first time on the program. Gentlemen we'll be back with more with gordy some sense talk talking world juniors and much more after these words jim kaye. You're enjoying those rich delicious. paiko flavors. Old world pizza made the way it's supposed to be paiko online. Drop in at two thirty six richmond road or one seventy metcalf. Now let's get to the million dollar question. Gord are the sends going to be any good this year and they're going to be filled with veterans or finally youngsters now. Dj smith has already indicated that This team will have more rookies in its lineup than any of the other teams in the canadian division so It's going to be a young team sprinkled in. We'll be some veterans like derrick. Step in and i know we're all a little bit taken aback by the acquisition of step on the acquisition of thirty five year. Old grade coburn from tampa bay along with cedric. The cat But it's a team that you can't win the majority of games with the youth movement with the infusion of no matter how well they played in belleville of the american hockey league last year it was still the american hockey league and so the job and going from the h. L. to the nhl is massive. And it's perhaps even bigger for eighteen nineteen twenty year old young man and they need some veteran presence and to that. And that's why the likes of derek stepan Will play and play an awful lot to brought into play. It's interesting you know you asked. If it's going to be a better team. And i. I really don't have a sense. We're all excited. What belleville did last year. What tim students lead did with jake sanderson has done at the world junior championships. And certainly in the case of students la. There's reason to be optimistic. But here's an eighteen year old coming in. And we tend to forget sometimes fellas that this team finished thirtieth last year and thirty first year before that and then make the playoffs the year before that the client has massive for this team to get better while other teams are getting better as well. so I couldn't tell whether this is going to be a five hundred hockey club or a team that may be over five hundred and sniff around for a playoff spot. My own personal thought is. It's got a lot of work to do and There is hope and there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. But i i'm not sure it's bright light as it stands right now right. So let's talk a little bit about tim. Studiously mentioned him a moment ago. Any dazzled everybody at the world juniors. It was fantastic. What is the likelihood that he'll be in the opening night lineup. I'm wondering if the la kings right now maybe also going By field stood slow. I'm sure the kings are still thrilled with by field. But i'm sure that again slow. And his performance of the world's gave their scouts the king scouts Some pause for thought is stewed salah in the nhl right out of the gate this year. You think now. Despite the fact that there won't be any fans in the stands in fact they do play a canadian tire center on the fifteenth of january attempts. Suits will be in the lineup. I don't think there's any question about that. You know when you take a look at the overall scenario here. The situation for ottawa. In an canadian division. So they've got six other teams. That are probably better than right off the get go. It's a fifty six game season. You're part of a rebuild. You want young players to get an opportunity to play in the nhl this year. You could almost take the attitude. What have we got to lose here. Okay what we got to lose. And i know that coach is going into this saying i wanna win every ocoee. I want ice my best lineup. But at the same time he's got between that rock art place in that you know management of saying we gotta get we. We have to find out if these young players are going to be able to play Tim suits a will get the opportunity to play and it will be beyond the six games where they have to make a decision on whether they send them somewhere else likely mannheim germany. He's gonna stay and he'll play the majority of fifty-six games he'll get some time off but my guess is he'll get an opportunity to To really show what he can do. Because i think he showed and i realize it's against other teenagers at the world juniors but he showed that is a really good player pretty simple chord that speaking of the world juniors. You've been around like god. I didn't know gordie thirty one years. You've been doing the twenty nine years. Congratulations how much weight. Gordie is put on those world. Juniors like everybody else each year and Let's look at the goalie for example levi. Right where this kid stood on his absolute head had had three no hitters there as they. Usa kid said last night in his interview was it was great. He said yeah. I like our colleagues threw a no hitter. And i hope i hope Usa hockey looks at it to you. Know it was. It was kind of a cool interview. Anyway just levi guy played so good and everyone's saying look out. There's this kid here. Here he goes he just signed himself a lifetime. Deal in the nhl. That's what i think right. That's what that's what all it's sorta on knowledgeable fans thing. Does it have a big weight gored with their. You know Scouts or management of other teams. Is it life altering for these kids when they come through the tournament or is it okay. Well that's good. Yeah that's a boys game and wait and see yeah. It certainly can't be life altering and in two different in going opposite directions as well. You can have an absolute standard tournament. Like levi ad. He's a seventh round. Pick of the florida. Panthers the guy at the other end of the ice last night and i think they were equally good Equally as equally. Good at either end of the ice spencer night is a first round. Pick of the florida. Panthers so these guys are going to be teammates. Eventually at some point be on the same training camp ice at some point. But in all jimmy for every wonderful story like that where you see a young man. Who's definitely i wasn't even invited to the summer evaluation camp for heaven's eggs. Here's a guy who sent in tapes. Said you know. I deserve to be here. He had a phenomenal season. It carleton place of the central junior hockey league c. h. l. last year and was worthy of getting a look at and he took full advantage of it. But there are other stories where you've got a captain of a western hockey league club who Has has done phenomenally well in his junior year. He's got all the character in the world and he's a first round pick of an nhl team and within three years he's out of the nhl. Curtis lazar is a really good example of somebody who can go from the top of the mountain. Slowly trickled down to the bottom of the mountain and fight your way back into the national hockey league and to his credit. Curtis has done just that he'll be a regular with the sabers. I think this year. But here's a guy who fell from grace in an awful quick way and just quite simply an awful way so yeah it. It's a tournament that can consent your career in either direction relic of raking. Yeah yeah so what. We impressions of the gold medal game disappointing for canadians to settle for a silver medal. America wins at two nothing. What we are impressions keita. Victory all that while the americans played a good solid canadian style game in terms of how canada wanted to play the game. The americans did and you know at one point and p the game last night. So i'm i'm scrolling back in between time outs. The shot clock read seven to canada and it was zero. Zero and canada looked like they were pretty good control or pretty they. They look comfortable in their own skin. And then the united states had want shift that ham them in and it lasted in more than thirty five seconds in the canadians got tired and the americans had a couple of good scoring. Chances and levi was good and then the next thing you know. There's the next shift where they're hamden again. This is midway through the shot. Clock went from seventy two I think to a twelve eight in favor of the americans. In other words they had the puck enough that they were able to get ten shots. Canada's one in about five or six minute span and during that ten to one shot clock run. They scored the game's first goal and eventually be the winner and i don't think canada at the midway point of the i realized what they were in for and the americans just continued to skate. And you know for for all the stock we put into good solid. Forechecking team steve. You know as well as anyway. Everybody loves to four check. The four check is the easy part of the game. You know more often than not afford check is the result of somebody just dumping the puck in the possession of the puck dumping it and you want to go and get it back and it's fun to catch somebody off guard or hit somebody. The hard part is the backcheck and getting the puck back when the other team is going in on the attack and the americans did a marvelous job and we saw canada through the first six games played. You know this back and forth game where we'll get the puck back at our own blue line if we lose it no big deal there. The americans didn't let them do that and They just skated tremendously. Well and you know too little too late for canada and in fact you know what even if they were. Two more periods added to that game. I don't think canada would come back. I really don't. I just think the way. The americans embraced their role from the halfway point of the first period on was Was going to tell you that They they were gonna win. I'm not a big fan of the expression. They wanted more Certainly in a gold medal game. It's dom the americans proved that they they played like they did. I read on. It was Sorry jimmy my read on. It was first. Half of the game was full on. Canada adjusting to the american speed. They hadn't that that level of speed in the tournament that includes the four check. You talked about but they did adjust and from the halfway point on. They were buzzing. They are making stuff happen. But that american these own coverage led by the way. Jake sanderson the sense. Fifth overall draft pick. That's that's what won the game at the end that and goaltending. They really didn't get despite the fact. They had lots of offensive zone time. They really couldn't get to that slot area to get in those really dangerous positions. All mclean used to say one and done won't cut it in the nhl. You got one shot. The goaltender is expected to make the save more often than not did every often Night made the save. But there you know i. I'm hard pressed to think of. How many good quality scoring opportunities there were were there a dozen good-quality chances that canada add to score last night. I don't think so. And for the reasons that you just mentioned You gotta go to the slot and pay the price you gotta go to the top of the The price they needed something ugly and ugly in a game like that would have been a thing of beauty for the canadians. But you guys are guys are talking like they lost eight nothing. It was pretty good on your right. What did you think gordie. I'm interested in what you're you have to say. After they won seven thousand to two in in the rain the first game. I was like okay. I'm gonna watch this man. They made light it up here the whole tournament. that was. Yeah well you know what when they add score their opposition was it forty one four through the first six eight forty one to four. Yeah and for young players. You can't tell me that they don't see those numbers go gold medal it on here. I'm going to have that around my neck and sixty minutes And then all of a sudden you know eleven minutes into the ocoee game. They're they're spinning their tires there. Just it wasn't working for them. The score against the germans were. It was what it was. I mean this happens in world junior hockey There there was nothing candidate could do or not do to change that outcome. I mean they had to continue to try Steve has been on the ice with me. And steve you know as well as anybody. I could've stopped a few of those I think that's fair to say. In fact i could've stopped four or five more than the german goaltender. Did so on sanderson before. We get away from him Have you talked to the sense. Did they have any sense of when this guy's game plan for coming out of school is going to be he in tyler. Cleven or going. Back to north dakota now but With this nhl schedule being kind of weird He would be technically available for at least some games this year. After north dakota is Is playing hockey. This season. You know of sanderson is in the plans for this year next year. I don't but certainly. I wouldn't close the door on next year. As far as this year is concerned. They're gonna want him to get his schooling and get acclimatized there and get a little bit bigger and get a little bit stronger. And again you know it comes back to being catalyzed enticed by a dominant performance against other teenagers in for tim students. It's going to be different going up against some of the players that he played against over the last week. And a half as opposed to march your dano or a shea weber. It's going to be completely different a complete eye opener. I think as well even though he's he's played against men and mannheim you university hockey for jake sanderson is a Going from university. Ocoee for jake is going to be a massive job that i think they'd probably wanna see him as a training camp before you know putting them into an nhl lineup with that. Might the pure. Maguire is a yeah ten pounds over the course of the next three or four monson eka very easily. dna already another time out. More with gordon wilson coming up after these words. Show gordie wilson joining us talking some world juniors talking some sense and as a means of our final thoughts today in this episode and we'll of quarterback for our next one. Let's talk a little bit about matt. Murray gordy are the angry goalie. of course Give us a sense of your optimism. Level that matt murray with a new address in auto as the sends goalie contractually here for the next three years. What kinda goalie. He's he's going to be From matt murray. I think we're going to see a probably goaltender who is quite determined to find his game again or get his back on track. I won't say find his game. I shouldn't say that because he didn't loses game he's still in. Nhl goal tender and to me. He's an nhl goal dinner at the age of twenty six. Who's won two stanley cups for ovens sake so if i have an opportunity to get somebody like that. Then you're saying by the same time to a thirty nine year old who's Played the last ten years for your ocoee club. Say yeah let's try and make this move and Even though the senators have a puff of goaltenders sue on the horizon are probably going to be. Okay goaltenders The pedigree of mcmurray is something to me that you just cannot pass up on. Add to that the fact that he's willing to sign here in ottawa for an extra three years and then throw into the mix that you know what he wants to be more of a leader in the auto locker room To me that's just a a formula for the perfect scenario and acquiring goaltender like this when you get a goaltender. Who sat beside sidney crosby for the last couple of seasons and gone through Ag to ocoee sticks and back with a guy who is more committed to hockey than anybody on the planet You'll learn an awful lot and to have matt able to come in and you know show young players not just the other goaltenders but young players How to be a pro and how to prepare for each game on a nightly basis. That's that's that's a huge. Plus for me i have. Zero qualms vote Acquiring matt murray my good stuff well that is what we call it quits for today. Jimmy gordian i'd lots and lots to talk about so we went way over like we talked for about an hour and a half so we make this up into two shows. Gordon will be joining us once again for tomorrow. But how in the world will we sign off the show at this stage of the game gourd. Conine everybody we'll see you.

And there's you know there's fifty different headlines. All the time and every headline was about the corona virus at at some point at some point Steve. What's going to happen is well who knows what's going to happen but at some point a player on the team says okay. We're GONNA play this game. There won't be a crowd and a player's GonNa come and go I plan. I'm not coming in you know and what what happens there. What happens with players who start to do that? When when the team saying well we should play and the answer is no. You shouldn't be playing at all but NBA star rightly. She's out there guarding a guy. And the guy's got the ball. And he swivels around and gives the guy a sweaty elbow in the mouth or something like that. It's like there will come a point to where the players are going to start being concerned. I mean the the reason you don't get this mass thing going is that you know just when you're in large quantities like that obviously it ups the odds of the virus being spread and right. Now they're just not just sports. It's like every walk of life really where people are gathering. We're thinking about music festival as we're thinking about golf tournaments cycling events were a mass amount of people are gathering that's in jeopardy now. I don't know it's risen to the level yet in Canada where we need to be canceling things when there are only sixty five confirmed cases in the entire nation. But if that's what the doctors are saying we should do then. I guess we should well. What's your answer you know I? I'd like to know someone's answer when they say no. We're not we'RE GONNA play. We're going to have our games and if people show up at the arena. Great if not then fine but we're still going to play and I WANNA know why I assume they believe that. The risk is not high enough where you'd be willing to change your life. Change Your plans. Around are they are they are they? Are they specialist in this field that they can say? I see all the doctors and everyone all the Health Organization World Health and all these other people are saying. Don't play and we're well that's ridiculous. It's the it's the most stupid reaction I've ever heard to this thing that that hockey coaches general managers presidents of leagues are saying. No No. We're fine. Fuck is like what what? Well money's part of it too right. Money will always play into any decision. Right where you say. We cancel this. We're not GONNA you know we're not gonNA make the kind of money. I assume everything in in major leagues are going to be postponed and not necessarily if it gets to that if it gets to. That postponed not cancelled outright. But who knows how things are actually going to go? It's not like it's completely unprecedented. It just hasn't happened lately We see the Indian Wells. Tennis tournaments been canceled outright but in terms of leagues You'd have to go back to the NHL. They had an influenza outbreak back in the early part of the nineteen hundreds and they wiped out a season. There was no stanley. Cup awarded that year because of an influenza breakout and they wanted everybody to be safe so it was a bad idea to just keep on playing. Yeah if someone's answer to that's what I'm saying why. Why are you going to play? And if it's money then that's the most disgusting response I've ever heard about this thing. That is real okay. It's absolutely real. Watch television yesterday or or this week. You know all the all the new shows. Twenty twenty did a two hour thing last night on on the education of this stuff. They had a panel of doctors on there. And I couldn't I couldn't watch the whole thing but but to take questions people how can you? It's just it's beyond worrisome thing and if someone says well we have to play the Games again. I'm like finish that sentence. Well it's too much money really pal really now. Is that the smartest thing in the world you know. So what do you think about? We talked about it yesterday. A little bit and I don't want to talk too much corona virus today because we did hit pretty hard yesterday in the last episode but I mean the world. Women's hockey championship has been canceled Outright not postponed done And this is in a nation. We are hosting it here in Canada and again there are sixty five confirmed cases and. I don't think a single fatality at in Canada and yet those were numbers that concern them enough to cancel it outright like the those do seem like soft numbers though. Jews do not seem like dramatic numbers to get all worked up about and yet they cancelled it. We surprised well. No I think it's the right thing to do you know I. It's you know all the news of this thing. Steve from every corner of the planet saw you know when people when people say well. It's not really affecting us here. That's wrong it is affecting people you know. There's there's cruise ships that are sitting out at sea that there there's a cruise ship that there's forty or fifty cases of it on on a passenger ship of thousands. I guess most of the crew who ended up getting it and they're saying their income and the shore you know we're way they're helicoptering in test kits for it. That's there you know. We spoke about Italy. The state's F. One again was not people are not coming out to it and so. It's not an overreaction in my mind so Indian Wells the tournament that beyond rescue one last year for Canada which really put her on her way in twenty nineteen as our athlete of the year. Just a terrific year for her Indian. Wells is where it started. That tournament is not GonNa Happen this year. Thanks to corona virus. We need to take a time out on the show Coming up we're going to get into some other things got Brooks Kapka story on Gulf. We're going to talk about the most hated team in all of pro sports and the all female NHL broadcast crew. I though it's your heads up for Tuesday march ninth periods of rain. To serve you time now for rb Computing Web Pool and we're recording this on a Monday. It's good to be feisty and hateful embrace the hate as we say so. Our poll today is besides the leafs is. I thought that would destroy the pool. Besides the leafs. What Pro Sports Team do you hate the most? I guess for You James. Because I don't know the answer but being an oiler fan. Can I say Calgary flames okay? Yep I'm not. I love sports like you do but in the day it was. I'll tell you in the day it was and it brought out the worst. Steve brought out the worst in me. I've got to admit when when The eighties late eighties flames. Who were who was it. Was a great team came to town. You'd sit down your seats and everyone would look at each other rubbing their hands together going. Yeah I hope someone dies here tonight. What we'll show you know that's eight it was. I don't know if it's so much haters. Love to love to beat a certain team. You know love you know. That's how I look at that thing. Who which which team do you love to see? Get get pounded by your by your favorite team. And and certainly it was Calgary. There's no doubt about it rolls days and the fights were great. The hockey was like high-level rough tumble you know rumble hockey man. It was it was crazy. It was crazy. I always come down to whatever your FA- hated team is. It COMES DOWN TO K. Take your favorite team and then decide. What team has faced your team the most in the playoffs and generally they'll get you in the vicinity of the team. You hate the most. The leafs are right there number one for me but they're excluded so I'd go to the next guy on the board and actually the team. The Senate play played the most in the playoffs. And that'll be the Pittsburgh Penguins. I really dislike them a question. You know it's a great poll question and at some point Steve. I'm saying we have to address this thing. Where a well documented stevie about your love of the Toronto Maple leafs and you're not the only one right who knew despises this team. And why why do you hate this team and I know a lot of press guys talk to them right who are on the inside and a lot of them. Don't like the leafs because of because of this. We are an elite team. We're above any other team. They make apparently very difficult to get interviews. Where other teams? Don't they crack the door wide open? They're happy to get the coverage whether it's good or bad or otherwise so a lot of it might stem from the media. I don't know this this hatred for the leafs. And but conversely Steve. There are massive amounts of leaf fence. I wonder I wonder Steve. If there wouldn't be as as many haters or as many lovers of the leafs if their if their nickname wasn't the maple leafs. If it was the Toronto bulldogs and wouldn't have felt for me. It wouldn't for you I but I I'm looking at the people who love the team who I always drove me nuts stephen. We did the show in Ottawa. That that people were phony who've lived in Ottawa? Their whole life okay and our massive sports fans and their season ticket holders or ten games and do the right things that fans should do to support team Quantico. Yeah but I'm a leaf leaf guide through and through their my number one team. What what you live in town with an HMO team and a massive amount of kids that come forward who don't live in Toronto who are Li fence stemming from their parents. I guess brainwashed brainwashed. Yeah something like that. Well Team Steve. That's my point. Toronto Maple leafs. Baby was a brilliant name of the team back in the day and because of that they've got this absolute phenomenal number of fans around the world certainly Canada. They've got one hundred years of tradition behind them as well right and one generation to the next passing it down. If your friend candidate you cheered for the hands if you're English and candidate you cheered for the leafs and that's the way it was forever and that's been passed down generation after generation obviously the NHL expanded in nineteen sixty seven from the original six. And this kept getting bigger and bigger but those bloodlines and those ties to the past. Remain strong a lot of cases. Let's part I think why people who are from Ottawa and Cheer for the Senators. That's part of why they don't like the leafs in that. It's like you guys still hear you know Ron town. Don't this is Ottawa. And I think there's an resentment there there's resentment and you don't need to wonder about any of this because I've got all the answers for you. There's resentment about those early. Two thousand playoff failures going over four against the leafs in the playoffs and a Lotta hateful players on those particular leave teams as opposed to our. You know not so much anymore. I don't hate the players per se. There's the media factor you alluded to write that Everything is Toronto. Maple leafs if you go to you know go to sports net or tsn tsn has the sends games. It's still wall to wall leave coverage if you're a fan of another Canadian team you gone could leave coverage well the the numbers bear it out that business wise it makes sense but that doesn't mean sense fans after like it and then the fan base to close it out believe fan base has always been strutton about as though they've won twenty cups since expansion when they've won by the way zero since expansion and that bothers. I think fans as well that you sense fans watch that building when the leafs are visiting. Fill up ninety percent these days with Lee fans all of that. It's a it's a big cocktail of hatred for the leaks from the from those perspectives. Yeah and don't don't kid yourself. The other thing is ratings for television and it was always told to me and I don't think that stories in any different today that it will always be that way because of the massive amount of people who live in Ontario. I was talking to the brier. Was this week. Congratulations Newfoundland Brad. Gucci Wins Again. Give over Albert Gucci. You had a little shoot like a little ghost shoot. He used to do all those events as you know and I would mispronounce his name on Purpose Steve. Right just to bug him. And he's a great guy. Brad red goose shoes. Great guy and multi talented curler. And he's succeed Goshi and I do my little Mr Rogers thing you know. It's if you have a little Goshi Doll Furby furby member Randy. Furby was totally. Did you see the Tom? Hanks movie just as a side note real quick. No is it good. It's all right I I was expecting more. I always expect more when it's a Tom. Hanks lead film and he was very good in the role. I just thought it was a bit plotting. It was okay. It was fine and it had a really nice message but when it was all said and done I was like no that was that was a nice hour and a half spent but didn't didn't have any kind of Academy Award feel about it to me. Didn't okay yeah my five years ago when when what's his what's his first name. Is it bill rodgers Fred Fred Rogers? Yeah so he went in front of a committee to get funding because he was on public television of course right and they needed more dope when he started this thing and you should look it up on Youtube and the chair of this committee. Say Okay lay it on me hair sir. Sort of sarcastically. You're in you're you're looking for a million bucks or four or five million dollars and he says okay. If you'll just give me a few minutes of your time and Fred. Rogers sits up there and addresses this committee. Imagine the pressure you know and you know. They're all sitting up high Steve on a bench and and in. I don't know five six seven. Eight minutes He gets his Dole from level. Yeah it's it's very cool. Look it up on Youtube. His speech that he gave this committee cool in the guy. The guy says at the end I got I got him. He was almost emotional. The guy listening to Fred Rogers. Love for For Kids and what he did anyway. It's really cool and the guy says you got it you got it. We're giving you your money. You know. Anyway it was. It was excellent time for that kind of thing and I'll get us back on track in a second but I have nothing but the older I get to the less I'm concerned with cool and slick and hip and I'm more gravitating toward the kind you know there was there. Was this wonderful. Little story of one of those dog shows the other day and it was Was In new. Westminster is that what is called the dog. Show something on anyways. One of the standard dog shows. I don't know if was that one. But it's one where they're running around with their dogs on a leash and strutton and Blah Blah Blah anyway. So there's a little girl who's autistic and she's got a stuffed dog cute little dog. She's got a little pink dress going and let stuff dogs on a leash and this this judge comes over. And he's a he's an interesting character. He's all dressed in a in a big pink sued a crazy hat and stuff very flamboyant and the old me would say that. Guy. What is he doing? What's he up to? But this guy was so ultra kind went over as a judge and basically let the little girl do the spin around the track. If you will. Isn't that strutting her stuff and just gave her a big hug at the end. And my point is that even though the person may not be slick and cool and Blah Blah Blah like. I am all about people being kind to each other so fred Rogers and that character boy had all kinds of time for well. You don't let you speaking of sports right. There's so many beautiful things that happen in sports with young fans. You know the deal now that they're doing Steve in hockey games in in the pre game skate. The warm up is players are going over to the glass and kids now are bring signs. Can I get a stick and get a puck or an autograph or a Selfie or something and someone some kid put up a sign saying I'll I'll play rock paper scissors for puck and the guy came over right and he said okay a player skated and now they're all doing it right and it just I. Almost I almost cry when I walked a crier. And and it's SORTA like nothing else matters in sports right now. When you see that sort of stuff happened you know young kids and some them end up freaking out just beyond themselves that they got a puck or or or you know God forbid a stick or the guy's gloves or something you know but yeah humane memories for a lifetime. You made a fan for lifetime. That's how you get a fan base just little moments like that takes two seconds as well like if. I'm running an NGO marketing team. I'm absolutely encouraging that you see it in the warm up all the time now the sense of a couple of examples pop to mind immediately for me. I think about Bobby Ryan in one of the last games where there's a guy holding this little baby girl and he just basically high fives on the glass and the girl. This is all electric. Oh my God one of the guys on the ice. You know acknowledged me just acknowledging wasn't like anything happened. It was just a quick high five and there was another one where a little kid wanted. Brady could chuck to do a floss off last season. That whole and so two. So in the middle of the warmup Brady could shock and starts doing the floss and they took pictures afterward and became a real neat meam online and so that stuff is I guess it takes two seconds doesn't affect anything about the warm up but sometimes that's a more interesting storyline than they two and a half hours of hockey that we ended up watching that night right. I'll give you the two best. Steve and you're going to say absolutely. I know you know about the two best I've ever seen last year. It was at the Phoenix Open in a practice round. And Gary Woodward is playing the famous sixteen par-three where it's wrapped in an arena fans and he called a girl out. I don't know if it was preplanned. Not a girl. I believe she had down syndrome. Yup and member and she played played the whole hit it into the bunker and I shot and you're sort of just waiting for things to go bad here going. This poor girl might end up embarrassing yourself trying to get out of the bunker flips it out of the bunker in the first shot to about fifteen twenty feet away and knocks it in for three and I was on the ground. I was on the ground. Not only the whole act of kindness that they did but but Gary Woodward was just his reaction was like you are the most awesome thing that's ever happened to me ever happened to me. You couldn't write it and that was just you know what I mean like everything just flies to your body about competition. Yeah Gary Woodland by the way and it's like he I think is woodland sorry. No that's all good. I think it's agree with you. It's his his sincerity. In that moment. It wasn't one of those you know. Lean in for the standard Selfie and then get on with your Gulf around like he was genuinely emotional and it was pretty amazing leg. I don't care who you are to watch this girl her name. Let me get it for you. Because I feel badly that we're just alluding to someone by their disorder. Her name was His Amy Blocker Stat and she was Believe a special Olympian and woodland gave her a chance to be playing partner for a whole and The joy that he took from it was every bit is Much as as hers so woodland says I've had a lot of good memories in my life. That is one. I will absolutely never forget. I've been blessed to do a lot of cool things on the golf course but that is by far the coolest thing I've ever experienced. She was yeah. And these are guys. These are athletes. Who when they Gary Gary Woodland won the US Open a by the way Brennan little is his caddy whose Canadian from London Ontario. Any Caddie for Mike for many years and now he's on Gary's beg and having a great great career and these are these are people steve who when they win you know? Finally that they've been playing this game their whole life. Who WILL SAY? I never even dreamt that I would win the masters or a major or that I win a Stanley Cup or world series or an NBA title. And you know. They put the microphone in their face after. And they're just they're just so overwhelmed going. I can't express the feeling that I have a right now about what I've accomplished. And what it means to my parents and the coaches and everyone who supported me and then and then this thing right comes forward and he just he never you know he was. He was completely overwhelmed. So that was one of my favorites. The other ones Steve. That you'll remember was A. I believe a high school basketball team and one of their trainers that they had or waterboy or was an autistic boy. Get on that team and you couldn't write this and they put them in. They brought him into the game and the kid. I don't know he knocked down. I don't know four or five baskets a three hundred hundred after three pointer. Yeah it was. It was incredible and it was just. It's just a phenomenal thing to watch. You know when you talk about what that means to kids when they get to experience athletes their their idols up close. I went Gretz and I were golfing last summer the summer before my golf course and he he showed up at the backdrop and the kids who were cleaning clubs in the back where we're going. What the fuck here visit inhabited right. And there was a girl who was shaking shaking as she carried his clubs from the from the car onto the cart and I could see that you know and she was white and I said you want to get a picture right and she got all dry mouth and saw Wayne was overheard. He's like absolutely get over here. You know put his arm around her and we stood there and she ended up uncontrollably crying. When when when when the picture was taken you know so Cool stuff snow question and it's too bad that it's just it was all about what team you hate that right. That's amazing how it transferred over to a really nice discussion about kind moments in the world of sports of which there are many but I do have to dial it back to the original poll to give a little feedback from those who voted on the pole for rb Computing James Lt Rights three way tie in the NFL cowboys. I think it's women in sports is just like who would have ever thought who would ever thought we'd come to the day where where women would be able to participate in this. They really have looked at this thing and said many years ago. Now it's time to get women. Most of the sideline reporters in sports are women that I can remember. You brought up a bunch of like Erin Andrews and some others. I think it's great. I think it's great. I agree you know you're so it gives you a new appreciation for play by play and color people when you see someone trying to do it and it and it isn't quite right. Yeah I didn't think she was there but Tsn for example. The sports desk has. How many pairs of women doing that show right?
