"What we asked. How always team old is probably really is. And give off on f one twenty. Three races twenty-ninth Formula one season. And we're starting to get a clear picture of the competitive order and the kind of racing that will characterize the year, of course, each of the first four tracks of the season. I'll park Bahrain Shanghai and the pacu Cirque on visits this weekend, a little bit unusual and very specific tracks in terms of the column on, but we're gonna try and make some sense of what we saying and to get to the bottom of some of the big story, so far I'm your host store. Joining me, I is a special guest crossing over from another podcast, Michael Minolta from the F one strategy report podcast now listeners really able to guess where you're from buyer accent? But a little bit about yourself and the stress one report put cost. Yes. Hi, ed. It's tempting to put on an accent at this point. Now, you've led me starting to that from a strategy. Of course, the name is talian and the noise leanness is a common aeroplane cold symptom, which I suppose you guys into that. And yeah, the F one strategy report, of course, is well, so. This isn't the name doesn't it rapper strategy in rices we managed to put together after every going pray and appropriate enough. We will have a little bit of look about strategy later on in the way things have gone so far this year. Now, we have a sample sets of three races. But yeah. Well, well with listening to that you're in Shanghai a few few days ago. I was in Shanghai. So we've woven recording this in Shanghai where everybody's in the same place. We've waited ten thousand miles apart may as well use the internet is modern technology that will probably last the whole show. Exactly. It's global production. So that's very good. Also, joining me is podcast regular, Ben Anderson. Now, we talked to the past about your latest tracks. And there's a video I was watching the other day with you driving around in a latest Seventy-nine with the three d three d video. Yeah. Mazing and the wonders if modern technology, which as we say, we hope doesn't fail in this international flavored podcast. Yeah. Thank you for recruiting yet. Again. Some of the finest memories of my career Sifi driving the latest Seventy-nine, very special. Lillo your helmet strat wasn't done it. So it was points. That is flopping around. We that confident you ain't gonna go off. And I just thought I would invoke the dangers of the Aira by being blase about safety standards. No, I think it's just the, you know, the tightening of the helmet strap leads to the the over running of the strap flapping around in the wind as he just got a little play. Because she just got loggerhead one. Well, yeah. Exactly. Yeah. You you to grow into your race helmet. I guess I'm not used to that much play when derisively overnight used to rice of slightly larger net larger larger neck, motions etcetera. So it's a say large neck fast driver. Exactly, exactly comprehensive. He disproved. Well, let's get on with with talking about about what we're going to talk about guys. A Michael I now in China last weekend, we saw for retirement self in not so over the management of its two drivers guy the the challenge to press on early on. Then eventually ordered Sebastian vessel pass Cozma few problems. How big a problem in general rather than just not specific rice? Do you think team principal? Matthew Eappen also has got here because we've seen this in a couple of races, even Australia. You came quite close to coming together in the first coolness. So this has got to be an ongoing problem hasn't it? Yeah. Miss a beautiful irony in this happening as well. Because on one level shell LeClair. Signed up here in the second Jia to to give Sebastian villa? Bit of a push into sort of reenergize the team a little bit. Is this young upstart? It's a bit of a different direction Ferrari. But then in the free season Matiba, not said, well, of course, we're going to give Sebastian vital the benefit of the doubt in the fifty fifty situations. Maybe to take a bit of pressure off Charlotte in in east sort of junior year. But then I guess he just didn't expect it to happen. So quickly it sort of three twists in this story. And despite having all that time to prepare for it. It really seems like on the basis not just of the first three aces..

"Better. I heard you mentioned the whole water thing. I do believe there are people out there that will not drink water because I don't like it. Really? Yeah. Absolutely. Nothing. Base except the milk. Like, we need lemonade five that you get it. From a lot of different sources doesn't mean. He's going to be drinking eighty ounces a day. He probably drinks it sparingly. I could see that. Really? Yeah. So when you need. You see all these sports drinks, you really need to drink water when you can drink was it body, armor and water. Yeah. I mean, but like your body craves it man when you're thirsty. On the football field. It's the only thing that you have. It's like. This transformation of Greg. What do you mean? You're in eating right. Drinking water. What was the most unhealthy version of me? I understood that water was an important thing. There's a difference between having like twelve ounces. Have you ever Eddie have you ever gone days where you realize you lay down you haven't had one ounce of water? Never all right. So much Matthew Eappen to me on Friday or Saturday or other? Yeah. Absolutely. A cold. Like fall winter day, my ending one ounce of water on Saturday because you didn't like water. He said, I don't like. I do believe there are people that don't watch stupid. But just one exhibiting you drink has the squishy feeling of it. What does he nuts? That's a little much. Hear was Pat Shurmur in terms of winning need to play a clean game. And then we'll see where we are. I haven't heard any coach take the podium and say this team played the perfect game. And that's the goal, and you and you really don't worry about the results you just try to eliminate those executioners. Who's gonna see where we are? You don't worry about the results doesn't every head coach worry about the results. It's where they get fired. Al Franken when you're one and five you don't worry about. That's a different issue. "The future, even future movies are about fighting the present. I think that the the reality of it is that the western exists in a world where classical virtues masculine virtues still deserve to be defended and champion. And because I think we can all take a little bit of our tribes have our computer against eastern. Is that Chris religious people in particular Christians in this country over the last, I don't know twenty five to fifty years started this view of men at star, this view of sin as masculine behaviors. Christians did okay, and they actually let us down the bad path as a society. They started saying, you know, being a good Christian as being quiet in church, not fidgeting with your with the flyer, not staring at your shoes. Being women became t- you know, in public schools, women disproportionate teachers over men, and they started taking these sort of this view of male behavior as needing to be disciplined or even meditated out of existence. And it's, it's not that masculinity became worse. Masculinity of anything probably became better with time, but it's just that women became the standard bear the standard setters for what they're going to accept, and they didn't want to accept in either a religious setting or in a public setting masculine behaviors. You know, there's that story, you all covered it. The story of the woman, the seventy year old professor who told her husband that she? Yes, we're screen That's right eighty. eighty. The more interesting part of that story to me is something that she says, you know, that wasn't an arrays in raised voice and she, she said, not in the entire history of the feminist movement have men self selected into a group to defeat the teasing and the bullying behaviors of men. And I thought, right because I don't agree with you that they're bad. I don't agree and other people may good points like, yes, we do. It's called father's. Yes, we do his. There's an even bigger point which I don't agree that teasing someone talk to. That's how many targeted. I don't agree that every form of bullying is equal. I don't agree that that men toughen each other up, and I don't agree that that is in every instance a negative, but because it isn't feminine, right? It's not a value held by women and because the church seated its responsibility, and then parents needed their responsibility to the state. And these female virtues became the only purchase now. She actually can't believe that men aren't trying to destroy men. You know, I think there is. Something about this. And this goes back to the western as civilization advances does become more feminine. And there was a famous line. I don't remember who said it about England at its really as it was rising to its peak after the Napoleonic. Wish somebody said England is heaven, paradise for women Pretoria for men and Hellum abortions. And I think there's something about that statement that is generally true of great civilizations that they do become restrictive for men because you do not go out anymore. You do call the police at some point, but this. Sidey was still, I mean, the metro Matthew Eappen for you need to translate masculinity into civilized form. At that moment, I will say that that I think that what you're saying has a lot of merit in the sense that great civilizations once they reached their peak are about protection of civilization, adventuring fourth new things, and what the western really is at route even be a male female stuff is about the idea that you have people who are leaving behind safety and security in venturing into places that they've never been before where there's a pretty high likelihood of sickness and death, and they're doing it specifically to better themselves and their family, and that that is a uniquely American thing. It's the westerns uniquely American from, and it's also why I'm not sure that I actually don't buy the. We now focus in the movies on the future as much. I think that because Star Trek is a western..

This is the bullrushes sports radio six ten with an irate irrational. I'm fine angry. What else Josh beard? I'm Jeremy Brennan intolerable. Yeah. Unbearable? We're going to do the same show tomorrow. We're just gonna have listeners calling the entire time and tell us what's wrong with the Houston. I liked that Frank has his has the back of Houston Texans. He's writer die. Like, I like Ryder die fans. Even if it's irrational to be honest with you, and I've lived in Houston, my whole life. I've lived through the disaster of Houston sports until the Astros won the World Series last year. And of course, the rockets in the mid nineties, but football in this city has not won an NFL championship in its history. And they've had some close calls with the Oilers back in the day. Look, I remember watching him I begged my mom not to make me go to the mall with her. So I can watch the Oilers play the Buffalo Bills and had my heartbroken at such a young age like we've been conditioned as Houston sports fans to have our hearts broken. I get it. I've lived it. I I'm still being conditioned. That's the problem. I haven't I'm not fully brainwash, but even with that broken heart. Like, I like fans that are jaded. I don't even even. Having all of the history of failure. I don't want the fan base to be jaded. I want the fan base. Here we go again here the Houston football. We're going be on our way to another losing season. I wanted to be hot. I wanted to be passionate. I wanted to be upset when their team falls into. I want them to be questioning Bill O'Brien. That's one of the things. I like about, you know, sports talk radio up in the north like when when the Philadelphia Eagles when they play poorly, even though if they win the Super Bowl that one week they played poorly. They wanna fire everybody. I like that. I loved that passion. But I also like it when people listeners fans like they'll be mad, but they're also going to ride with their team. I'm I love sports fans. No, I wasn't. I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about Frank. I liked the Franks Frank was not very happy with you. Sounded like you were jumping off the bandwagon. And Shawn Watson and all this stuff. But Frank cats and points, I like fans like Frank texture saying there were smoking crack if if it sounded like I'm jumping off the bandwagon. I'm not I'm not mad about the law, especially optimistic moving. I'm always going to be an eternally optimistic guy in a couple of days. And we'd be like she fits the giants. This is the giants offensive line. It's pooh-pooh Eli manning. They're going to be fine. That pass rush is going to get in this phase all game long. It's going to be great first game at home. But just in the moment, I get passionate. And and I get frustrated and the only thing I don't like about fans like Frank is like, oh, you didn't live through it. Well, that doesn't mean that I'm not a fan of the team that doesn't mean maybe I don't have. I didn't grow up here. I didn't spend thirty. I didn't watch the Oilers games. I was I was in another city. I can't help but I moved here now. And I love this team. Like, I love this team. I I grew up in Dallas, I grew up loving the Cowboys and at this point the Texans going, oh, and sixteen would be more disappoint. Pointing to me than the Cowboys going Owen sixteen like the Texans loss on Sunday. Hurt me more than the Cowboys beating the giants made me happy. Like, that's that's where I'm at with the Texans. And yeah, I didn't grow up here. But I'm I'm passionate fan more than anything before. I'm a radio host like I do this because it's fun. I like sitting in front of a Mike, and I love making people smile love making people laugh and talking about sports. Sorry. Wondering if you're sharing your life story talk about some football. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if I can. I never compared to Sean watching Aaron Rodgers. I said that Aaron Rodgers after the relaxed moment led his team to the playoffs and that this moment from to Shawn Watson saying that. We're not going to panic reminds me of that moment. And I still think that the Texans are gonna make the postseason. I know that they're are to to Shawn Watson doesn't hasn't looked as good as he did last year, although he had a good game against Tennessee. He made some questionable decisions that if you were with us in our number one. I said maybe we jumped too far ahead when wherever we talked about how great his quarterback awareness is awareness is absolutely fair. Play like that at the end of the game against the titans. The way that game ended like you deserve to be criticized. You're going to be criticized when you have a play like that even if you're Tom Brady the interceptions that he's had in the first two games when he's thrown it just to jump onto the in zone on second down and seven aren't good football decisions and Bill O'Brien tried to have his back at the Monday press conference. And that's good on Bill O'Brien had his plan having his players back. And I'm sure that will play well in the locker room. You can't have a quarterback doing a jump onto the end zone and a second down and seven and the other teams territory, you just can't do it. You can't end the game the way that the Tennessee titan game ended if you're going to be labeled as somebody that has good quarterback awareness because that's not good awareness. It's just not. No, no. It's terrible. It's terrible awareness. But there's optimism moving forward. It's not like one bad play in a specially a second-half where he was. That's why that one bad played like I said earlier was so frustrating because he was making good decision after good decision. Good play. Pause. The play after positive play. It's really a microcosm of the Texans. Sees especially that game especially that game. Because I'll throw out the patriot game. Look the patriots. They're supposed to win the AFC. It's the greatest quarterback in the greatest coach you're probably not going to win that game. But the titans game really was a microcosm of that. Final play. The second half of Watson at least where you play pretty good. You had your your bits and pieces of the game. Where you look pretty good. But you just didn't put it all together and get a win. And maybe it started with a bad practice last week, cutting up all of this audio and listening to all this audio something kind of jumped out to me that didn't sound right. Like it sounded off, and you you were very critical of Bill Brian earlier, and you were pretty upset these last couple of segments about the Houston Texans. And I'm really curious to see what you have to say about the these couple of soundbites after hearing them because they jumped out to me I will fuller was talking after the game. And he said that you know, maybe we didn't practice all that. Well, last Wednesday earlier in the week. We didn't have a real good Wendy. That's always start things off on Wednesday. So further your practice. So. Probably better throughout the week in practice safely to willfuller there. It was very cut and dry. We didn't practice well on Wednesday. And it starts there when you do better at that next week. Tyron Matthew said something along the same lines. His was a little more of a subtle hint. But here's timer. Matthew Eappen does the NFL is doesn't matter who you're playing stuff to win at somebody else's place. Like, I said we we gotta get back into. We gotta get back to the film. Come back to work this week to work workweek. This. What we get a w just one win. You hear what he said? They're a true worse rework week. We've we've been very critical of Bill O'Brien. And when you're talking about practice and Wednesdays the day Wednesdays when you're installing game plan Wednesday to me is the most critical day of the week when it comes to regain preparation because that's the one day you need to be clicking on all cylinders. Everybody needs to be wise, paying attention, etc. Etc. And both of them kind of mentioned that we didn't get our weeks started the right way wins as the start of the week Monday. Come in the review film on the previous game. That's what they did yesterday. They were looking back at the titans loss players get an off day on Tuesday. Maybe we'll have a light lift something like that. But Tuesday's the day all the coaches are scouting for the New York Giants. And in Wednesday's the one day that's the start of the NFL week for these players. And last week the Texan didn't start off all that. Well and hearing that sound bite from both of those two players to me is more concerning about Bill O'Brien, then any sort of game management or. Clock management that we've seen in the first two weeks. Yeah. Honestly, I haven't really we've been out of practices a lot. We're not really there though. We're we're like we're there. We're watching ten minutes of a very very light drill. Yeah. That's fair. But but I'm talking more of the practices. We were out at training camp. We're at every single practice, and we were watching a while of it. And I haven't wanted to say anything, but honestly, the practices look kind of soft, man. That's the NFL nowadays though. I and I get it. But but like even the reaction to weigh things happen, a soft something something bad happens. I don't know maybe this is antiquated. Maybe maybe I'm a different kind of person. But there needs to be yelling. There needs to be anger. There needs to be frustration. And then to be some kind of passion and energy there. And sometimes I I'm not gonna let you just say that whenever I've had. I haven't seen it. I've seen I've seen O'Brien get onto his guys I've seen Romeo Cornell. Maybe not as loudly get onto his guy just happening there at least needs to be one loud mouth. Like, they hire me to just yell at people. Probably just are they probably I'll fight me after practice. I would come come with a bruised face every day. But then needs to be one one person, that's fiery and loud mouth that just kind of gets under. Everybody's skin. I don't know, man. I just haven't seen it from him. This. I've seen it from him in the past. I haven't seen it from him enough this year and that, and that's that's an issue. And and and that's that's the thing with practice practices like practices need to start off good because hopefully this week they go out there tomorrow, and they have a great practice. They have a practice where everybody is out there. They're going one hundred percent the trying they install a game plan. Everybody feels good because that'll bode well for the game on Sunday. I just wanna see more fire from this team from the coaches from the players whatever they need to do to get more energy on Sunday. That's what I need. I have something about the fire on game day because there was no fire against the patriots that first week of the year. And that was something they even talked to Shawn Watson Balaguer where was your energy? Where's that swagger that? We see where's that pep in your step that we saw last season. And I saw some of that some of that fire from the text, and it was a small dose, and you're right. It needs to be from kickoff to the very end of the game to the final horn. Yeah. I saw a small dose of it against Tennessee. I whenever does Shawn Watson through. That touchdown passed away jumped into somebody's arms. Leaping up. Like that was the fire that you're talk second half. I saw almost the entire second half, especially back of the third quarter. And in the fourth quarter. You saw that from him. You saw that from the offense. And we've seen it from the defense for the most part. I mean, you look you look at what the defense did against the titans and even against the patriots. They didn't allow a lot of yards. Like you didn't allow they didn't allow too many big Chuck plays. It's not at all bad spots. They gain one hundred and fifty yards, and that's the we were seeing the positives. And that's that's where these frustrations come from. As we see all these positives. But we're getting these negative results from it. It's almost more frustrating that they should be better than they are like if they just had a terrible roster. If they were the Cleveland Browns and their own too. It's like, okay S the bed. Fred like, we've always talked about for Oliver the number one pick in the two thousand nineteen draft. But whenever they have the talent, and they had the pieces again, the offensive line is a huge question. Mark in his why I had the ceiling lower for the Texans and a lot of people. Did they still a better? Better team that Owen to there are better teen in losing the titans with the backup quarterback without their three best tackles on the offensive line. And to be honest. They were the better team on the field on Sunday. There's a reason they outgained about one hundred and fifty yards. The problem was they made these critical mistakes that cost them the game. They didn't defend a gun or on a fake. Punt -pletely changed the game script of what would have banned between the Texans and the titans. They racked up yards. They didn't score. Once they got into the red zone. They missed a field goal. I mean you threw an interception into the end zone. You just a small little details. Which is part of the reason that it makes it so frustrating is that it's right there the winds right there so easy to to beat the titans. All you had to do is limit some of the mistakes some of the penalties..

"Temperature tends to spike around late afternoon early evening in then, and so you're literally more warmed up and then exercise in the afternoon, early evening seems to be better for certain kinds of formats are lung function is higher. That time of day are hand eye coordination is better. Our speed is greater, so they're actually disproportionate number of world records in speed events that were made between four pm in seven pm local time. Wow, that is really effective. In this kind of thing is true for many other activities. Of course, we've handpicked exercise because it is such a universal thing. Hopefully all of you listening to this show you participate in regular exercise, but Daniel, they to ask you at a more personal level. What you mentioned that you do your exercise in the afternoon. What other things has this research can prompted you to do Chan, how have you changed your own behaviors in response to this? Oh, a lot of ways. So for instance, you know, I'm more of a morning person than evening person on a not a full-fledged lark, but I'm, you know, more much more early than than than late and so I should be doing my analytic work in the morning and I didn't always do that. And you know, I'm a writer and so writing is analytic work in the sense that or writing is at least work that we're that requires high levels of vigilance because the the enemy of writing. Is distractions. So you wanna be in you wanna be writing when you're in your in your least straggle mode. I mean, you know, for writers, the entire universe is conspiring to distract you prevent you from writing, and so you want to up your odds a little bit that way. And so what I what I have started doing on writing Dave's like come into my office, which is the garage behind my house where I'm talking to you right now from where I'm talking to you right now, and I give myself a word count, and I don't do anything else until I hit that word count. I don't open my Email. I don't do those administrative tasks right ahead of time. As you know, as you mentioned earlier, I don't even bring my phone with me the office. I just a question that period of time to do my heads down analytic writing work, and I don't do anything else until I hit my number. And I found if you do that every day, the pages really do pile up where. Wasim previous times I might have a spire to do that, but I would come into my office and check my Email and all I need to clear the decks if I can just clear out all my Email, I have a clean slate and I can actually start and other just, you know, those are just delaying tactic. Yeah, so you need to so so that's so did that way. I'm also become. There's a whole body of research on breaks on science of breaks is where the science of sleep was fifteen years ago. It's about to break through the serpent, and I was someone who never took breaks. I always thought that breaks were kind of a sign of weakness work concession out when in fact, what the scientists telling us as it breaks are part of work, not a deviation from hard performance. Yep. Yeah. I actually you shared some information to believe on your Twitter account. My mother's a teacher. I shared it with her about how having a break right before test actually improves test scores pretty dramatic. Absolutely, absolutely. And, and actually in also taking a lot of research showing taking standardized tests on the afternoon, decreases performance here, but the, you know, the bigger effects there. I mean, if you look at again, it goes back to the time of day. That's a really important study of the LA unified school district showing that kids who had math in the morning versus kids went Matthew Eappen noon, learn more, learn more math, got higher grades, higher test scores..
