"In studio with us producer and performer Amy Nico shorts and Matthew Torres who is a master Matthew Patrick tourists. It's unlike didn't have it wrong on this this. It's all my it's all my fault. I apologize and this'll be a very fun a fun night. You can go to laugh factory dot com. And now how does it work as the purchase of the tickets is part of what goes towards the organization, you're working with? Yes. Yes. Half half organizations that operation homefront. It's. Not only just homeless vets just help stabilize that's like have on. So has an air rating. So the largest amount of donations go to directly to the vets so operation homefront, if you look it up like there's no charity that has a higher percentage that goes directly to the vets. Well, when you say not just homeless, then because one of the things that struck me I mean, I only did one week in San Diego at the recruit depot just following everybody and going through some of the paces they even had us read that I had to call. My husband and read that script to him. You know, you're not gonna hear from me for the next whatever number weeks. I did it to my, mama. Got her voicemail. Glad you got the voicemail mail. Because they're yelling at you. Right behind you. Right. Yeah. I think I pretended like halfway hung up. But I I was on a very strict schedule, and it was all media and teachers and things, but there is something very very comfortable with knowing exactly what was going to happen with my day in just one week, and it was unsettling to then come home and like Disney not to do. So I imagine after a few years of having a life like that. It has there has to be a weird transition for for folks who serve in the military, especially financially because they're not really paying for food or housing or whatever. So you come back, and it's really hard, and you went straight from high school. So you never were actually like a full pledge grown up adult. So you're just like you went from everyone making all your decisions all the way to twenty one or twenty two if you went straight from high school, and then bam rents, blah, blah, blah. And then, you know, you don't get as much leeway live. What your parents has a grown, man? It's a really hard transition for a lot of people, especially some people who stay in even longer like, right? Eight ten years. How long were you in the marines six years six years? And what did what was your specialty? What was your job in the marines? I was a radio operator with the weapons company. What's iraq? We've just like raid people's houses and stuff like he's got. I know this is hard. Well, it's you develop a sense of humor to intense situations know, it depends on what you what you come into a situation with and how you really stress so I could see you could just be like. Talked on the radio. Well, everyone else. Exactly. What kind of what some of the jobs that the women you talk to what do what was surprising. Andrea. When you know, I think what was surprising. Well, not surprising. I guess maybe just a learning experience. Lightning. Yeah. Is that you know. I I went at this. I thought that they'd be terrific treated differently because they're women and they said, yeah, maybe in the start. But again, you know, with the age difference that was more of a factor. Yes. Would you probably saw as well being so young when you enter it as well. And then everyone kind of coming together as a team I love the professions that they now are in some are still in the military. One is to make a read is a teacher at the lighthouse Chicago lighthouse for the blind, which is very awesome wonderful. So she's paying it forward every single day. Once Andy Saldivar is a tactical officer on the Chicago police department and the dead cocky, and Leslie or Banik or air traffic controllers, which I thought was whole. So they were that in the military, very high levels Lieutenant sergeant and then they came out and they were air traffic controllers here and retired. Perfect. So it's yeah. The jobs that they had out the military, Amy. Did you ever think about joining the military? I kinda thought about going in for psychology. But I ended up going to LSU and then after Katrina I went to western Michigan came back. Yeah. You're you're in school during Katrina. Yeah. Yeah. It was it was a little wild to be a little stressful. I thought about joining the military. I actually my mom's just we want to launch. I took my ass. Vava did. Okay. Right. And and my mom took me out for lunch with the please don't do this. And it's funny. Because when I was when I was in San Diego at the recruit depot second to one of the marines had been in for about twenty years. And he said, you know, because I thought you know, should have done it. And he goes, look if it was something you wanted to do it wouldn't have mattered. What your mom said? Yeah. Portent to you is your mom your mom's opinion. And that's you know, that's how you live your life. He's like no regrets as like, okay? Fine. Speaking of no, regrets, one of the one of these. I talked to is a major in the marines. And she started out I met her because she was a former intern at WGN radio in two thousand five she was our news intern. And at the very end and I wanted to use this series. But I didn't. But she said, you know, and I said anything else you want to say, you know, at the very end, I'll always say that. And she said major Crowder, she said, you know, I really miss radio. But I really felt my calling was to serve my country, and I really wanted to do that. And I said radio I went oh my God. You're saving lives. Please nothing compared to what you sacrifice that you make and she has two little girls now, which I thought was very cool. She said she whenever she's been she's been to Japan, she servants off Korea. She said every time she has to leave. You know, she it's very hard because her daughters are very young. But she said I'm doing this for the greater good. And I hope that they are and will be proud of me. Sure for what I'm doing. I'm creating for them. And I'm you know from practically balling. At the end of the interview. I can imagine that they're they're they're your kids will say absolutely how has your family been when when you know after six years were they throw that you did it. Yeah. I think so because then I was gone all the time. So you know, they come back. I guess you could be got anywhere. Everyone loves you. But. Yeah. Like how she was talking about earlier. It's just it was super pro-military time. Yeah. So like you could have done anything everyone with a parade. Well, and that's and that's the important part is is to follow your heart and certain situations. Like that to know that you wanted to do and make that commitment even a young age. How it's gonna end up. Paul is a house comedy been for you. As far as you know that there's that ability to disregard authority in comedy. It's sorta the opposite of what you did in the marines. Yeah. It's really weird. I don't really have the confidence. A lot of people think like, oh, you know. That confidence translates. It's still really hard to like do like, especially if you're not doing well to do like, really like, I don't know rather Russell's whatever some physical things a lot easier like standup, so hard, no matter. Yeah. But you know, you keep doing it. Because you love it and Amy producing shows and performing how have you? I I produced my very first show. Just last New Year's the first one I ever produced like Fronta back with music and everything it just never I was fortunate enough that zanies gave us the space to do the funny females. But I'm trying to figure out ways to come back to that. What what motivated you to start producing your own shows? Well, I was trying to do more shows. I was starting to get a little better, and then a friend mentioned venue. There's on the beach. And I was like, oh, yeah, I'd love to do that. And then the friend had a bailing, but the venue is still there. So I got two different friend on board. Right.
