"We might pick on Jesse winker if we were inclined to because he's was, you know, someone who the Mariners wanted to the point of being willing to acquire a hohenzollern is contract. And it doesn't go on great so far. Not terrible. It's going to pay for Suarez. Yeah, that's true. And then, you know, part of this list drives home for me just so good. The Dodgers are because we could say Justin Turner or you could say max Monty, but you don't have to because it doesn't matter. It really doesn't. Yeah. And dull is off to a very slow start with the White Sox, 69 WRC plus not nice. Look, there are players who have hit worse than all of these players. Sure, yeah. Christian pace with the a's now. No one really expected him to hit, that is kind of his rep is that great glove, no bad, at least so far. The notepad part has certainly held up. He's hitting one 55 one 97 two 33. That's a 29 WRC plus, and he is with a new team and obviously was a big piece of a high profile trade. So I guess that's a little extra pressure, perhaps even if it doesn't come with the salary of some of these other players, but yeah, I mean, if you just sort the leaderboard, it goes Christian patches at the bottom and then Jonathan scope, Martin Maldonado. Again, Maldonado pace, these are very much glove first players who don't have high offensive expectations, so. Well, and like in Maldonado's case, again, sort of like with Turner and Muncie, what with low expectations of the bat like it doesn't matter, the Astros are just really good. That's a weird one. And I guess Bobby dalbec who was a couple of Red Sox on this list here. Might be something to that. And I'm struggling. Who knew? Bobby dalbec has a 48 WRC plus and he was a somewhat popular breakout pick because he had a great second half last year and I think when we had Zach cream and Bobby Wagner on to preview the AL east this year, they or at least one of them, there was a lot of skepticism about whether he actually was a good breakout pick and whether he'd be able to maintain that. But yeah, he has completely fallen apart thus far. Maybe we just thought he was a great breakout pick because of how baby faced he is. We were like oh, he's baby face Bobby dahlbeck, so he's got to be bound for breakout. I'm just like right now grappling with eugenio Torres is line and hey honey, I would like to apologize for the slander that I perpetrated. Not bad. But yeah, not bad. Get on base one 28 WRC plus. Well done. I take back some of the things I've said about your hair. Jackie Bradley junior, another Red Sox who has not been hitting again. Jackie Bradley, junior's not hitting okay, well, it's not the biggest shocker. Today is the day that ends in Y man, there are a lot of Red Sox in the system. Is there a lot of that looks pretty good right there? Yeah, it's not. It's not been good. They have struggled. So what we might say is that all of the Red Sox need a nightlife Trevor story tonight. Yeah. That might be helpful to their pursuits. See it will be contagious yet. Nelson Cruz. Finally, maybe. I don't know, I don't want to be on a vigil for Nelson Cruz's pat because I want it to be everlasting, but it has failed to catch fire thus far this season. He has a 59 WRC plus and he's obviously someone who is only there for his hitting. So Carlos Santana also down in the Whitmer field zone for the royals, but I guess I don't know, have you sailed Garcia with the morrowinds by marwin standards was a big free agent edition and he's down at a 62 WRC plus so far? Yeah. Jacob stallings too. Yeah, there are a couple here where they're waiting for it to click as it were. Yeah. Well, you can all sort leaderboards too, so. Yeah. We won't read all the names, but we hope that everyone gets their Trevor story game sometime soon. And you know, someone else who could use a Trevor story game, Tyler O'Neill, with the Cardinals, 63 WRC plus one 95 two 56 two 97, he's now on the IL with the shoulder impingement. I don't know how like all of his limbs are not just like impinged by his muscles at all times. It's like a muscle like a bicep impingement. He can not move his arms, but no, it worked well for him last year and it has not, so I don't know if this is like legitimately like his shoulder has been bothering him and that's not why he's hitting or whether it's he's not hitting and we're just IL him for a while, but something has not been right there and he's been striking out a ton too. The silver lining though is that tower O'Neill's absence has given way to a couple of promotions and collapse contemporaneous collapse of the Cardinals maybe second and third best prospects, right? So infielder Nolan Gorman, who has some swing and miss in his game, but also plenty of power, he'll be coming up and should be seeing some time at second base. And then pitcher Matthew liberator, whom the Cardinals got from the rays in the Randy arozarena trade, he'll be coming up and making the start on Saturday, and those guys are lifelong friends and teammates. Not only are they both 22 and from the same draft class and from the same draft round the first round in 2018, but they've been friends since they were 5 when they were in the same neighborhood coach pitch team in Arizona and then they played on travel ball teams and other programs later. Minor league roommates kind of amazing that it worked out that way. So it's cool for them and for the Cardinals. That's exciting to have two top prospects coming up on one team at the same time. That is really exciting. That's like lefty grove and Mickey Cochran, I think in 1925 they debuted on the same day for the Philadelphia athletics and went on to be Hall of Famers, of course. I don't know that Gorman and liberator will debut on the same day because Gorman might play on Friday, but close enough, not that I'm saying that they're going to become healthy, but just to have two top prospects. I'm sure if we did a little step last style search, we could come up with other examples of two really prominent at least hello very good level players debuting for the same team at the same time exactly the same time you're roughly the same time and that can be super excited because it's like it's all happening and suddenly you get to see them playing at the same time in the same lineup potentially so exciting times for St. Louis, but not for Tyler O'Neill. And we will take this opportunity to shout out Mauricio Rubio who you straight for baseball. That's right. Who was Nolan Gorman signing scout. So congrats now. All right, so let us bring on our guest. Well, we are joined now by Patreon supporter effectively wild listener, Aaron Hartman. I believe an original and OG Patreon supporter who has recently leveled up his support to the Mike Trout tier, which entitles him to join us on this podcast episode. I guess it was redundant to say Patreon supporter and effectively wild listener..

"Driven down the left field line. It's in the corner. This ball is yard. It's a three run walk off Homer for Anthony Santander. And the Orioles line it. Their third walk off into the season. There's second one against the Yankees. And Anthony Santander awaiting a greeting from everybody at home playing. One of the Orioles had some rough comments about the restructured Camden yards I'll be talking about that with Carl ravage coming up. San Diego pirates manager bob Melvin is expected to return from prostate surgery on Friday. He had been away from the team since May 11th, Cleveland guardians start their basement José Ramírez will undergo x-rays and other tests on his right shin after he was injured in an at bat on Thursday. And by the way, guardians managed Terry Francona will miss today's game while he has some minor surgery. And some interesting news from the Cardinals. They called up top prospects Nolan Gorman, Matthew liberator. These are two of their best prospects, foreman's expected to start at second base in St. Louis's season opener against Pittsburgh. Taylor what else you got? "And really languished his first four years in the system but had a breakout year between springfield and memphis year. And then catcher alley sanchez. Who has been the third catcher. You know he was kind of the guy who was around most of the season on reserve. Had there been an injury so know. There's these group of young players. None of them are on the forty man roster except with exception sanchez. So you know if has for example that you know the cars wanted to add him to the twenty six players that they would have on their roster they would have to put him on the forty man. I but that could easily be done. Because of Pitchers that are injured players. That are injured. that aren't going to appear the rest of the season anyway. So it'd be interesting to see whether that got. The baseball has a history of young guys who nobody's ever heard of emerge in the playoffs. And you know one yep has hit twenty. Seven home runs this season In the in the system that you know topping the the cardinals and You know he's you know you never know. I guess you can say you never know what happens and thing unwind yep is he was named The triple eight triple a all star. First baseman for the east leake Just yesterday so he's being recognized around the aim one yep has a right handed hitter twenty two years old as a guy that could make some noise in a future. How about matthew liberator. Yeah matthew liber towards the other player who was named to the triple a east all star team and now he's a guy that we've watched all year and track very closely but you know and he's not among a group called up to saint louis right now. He's his chance will be next spring. But i think it's important to look back and see what liberty or did over his last ten appearances of the season. And i'm talking about from the beginning of august on He not only delivered. Era under three in those games. Those is ten appearances but he also pitched on an average of over six innings per outing. So you got a guy who came into the year had never pitched in a game above high was dropped into aaa so he skipped basically two levels of competition and you know granted yet last year in the alternate camping. All but that really went the same skip. Two levels took him a while to speed on the ground but was pitching exceptionally well in triple a. And so you know. Matthew laboratory has done nothing to change his status as the top pitching prospect in the cardinal system. I'm not sure he'll go home and have his list of things that he's being asked to work on This winter and be ready to come to camp typically camp..

"Currently at the plate now too small sample size not striking out nearly as much. We've seen how he settled down the defense. He's among the league leaders defensively and metrics in center field but that has been a big addition quietly for this club. Yeah i think there is no doubt that any fancy watch games closely over the last forty five years when here baiters uses hope that he doesn't fish at those pitches that are down in a way and he's shown much better discipline this year titled neil as well very much in the same situation you know hitters knew how to get him out and now Bill betas doing a better job against right handed pitching. Which was the key for him. You know coming into this year. He's always had left pitching very well but he had to pitch right be credible enough against right handed pitching that they were comfortable to play every day. And you know again. A tiebreaker is clearly his defense he also very good on the basis. So you know. It's nice to see harrison baiter step up and and have a solid season. That really helps that bottom third of the lineup. Brian lynch jump into the minor leagues will start with memphis. What what's happening right now. With the memphis redbirds. Birds are are playing well in spurts. Pitching has been a little bit behind but we saw both the infielder. The veteran infielder as it were brought in this year. Maximum off and Jose ron don't play well drug and a lot of runs. Hit four home runs. Each was a little bit of a surprise. More i've got the call to come up. But he was much hotter at the time then then rondeau and went. Saint louis had an opening lars. Newt bar who's an outfielder that we haven't talked much about up from aa hitting over three hundred. Opiates over eight hundred winning doing a nice job as well and then counter capable who is also playing. Well so it's nice to see that the the the red birds have some some backup on the offensive side on the pitching side. The scandal clearly has been a matthew. Liberator is made three starts as your as a little bit high but he's been very consistent fourteen strikeouts and seventeen third innings only four walks and that thompson on the other hand has struggled a little bit more Especially with the ox in gave up three long balls already so thompson actually pitched in one game out of the bullpen as they're trying to figure out how to get get right but you know one of the things that we've looked at for saint louis left-handed hasn't been solid this year. In you know. I don't want to say that it's going to happen anytime soon. But if liberty keeps pitching like this you know he could be a guy that the cardinals could call on in the second half to to work out of the pen from the left side versus you going out and picking a picking up a guy scrappy. How are they doing it. Is it a piggyback system primarily with memphis in the rest of the minor leagues. No there must be running five man rotation and it's interesting because as we've talked about before a big change in the minor leagues. This year is a six game series. Every tuesday through sunday. So you know if you go with a regular five man rotation what happens is the same. Starting pitcher pitches game one and then again game six but generally speaking. The cardinals have gone with five man. There's a couple of cases where they're running with piggybacks down in class but overall they're going with more standard rotation now guys aren't pitching in deep into games partially because of the fact that most of them weren't pitching last summer but also as we get more and more information on metrics and all. It's much harder for pitchers pitch that third time through a lineup..

Jose ron second half Bill betas saint louis Saint louis Each both last summer fourteen strikeouts one game six game third time five man over three hundred four home runs game one thompson over eight hundred seventeen third innings four walks

"A johann oviedo done quietly did a really nice job at spring but didn't get a lot of one o'clock aim action did a lot of games and that kind of thing but he sort of defacto six starter right now. So he's the guy you want to have one ready if they have a rotation opening now. There's a couple of surprises in my mind. An alternate camp when you look at Top left handed pitching prospects. Matthew liberator in zack thompson. Both of those guys made the alternate camp roster and that says to me that the cardinals are so impressed with what they did this spring that they are viable potential additions to the major league roster. Not right away but probably at some point this season now the other thing is that the core of this alternate camp roster will go to memphis. They'll be the memphis team to open the season in may so the coaches and the manager of of the alternate camp arthur memphis staff manager ben johnson brandon allen hitting coach pitching coach near roscoe etc. So this alternate camp Really are for one month sort of the next line of reserves. But then they'll be the guys to to start the season with some other additions to start the season for memphis chirp. And how about minor. League spring training brian. How does how does that all going to play out. Well minorly camp We'll begin in around the the the beginning of the second week in april in april Pitchers and catchers report first. Then the the position players report four days later the whole plan all along was that they wanted to wait. Until the major leaguers and the alternate camp players departed from jupiter. So they could do all the cleaning all the preparation and they'll have roughly a hundred players and camp they'll be spread out among three clubhouses three rosters. And they'll scrimmage against themselves and that's the interesting factor again when you look at the roster changes that occur because a couple of players that you thought have been alternate camp. The cardinals have decided instead to leave behind. For in this minorly camp and i'm talking specifically about catcher yvonne. Harare who's on the forty man roster the only forty man roster player. who's not in the alternate camp and infielder nolan government. And i think by them being in the alternate being. Excuse me being in minor league camp staying behind in florida rather than going through the alternate camp. That's a signal that the cardinals want them to get more structured work because with one hundred players in minor league camp. They're going to have games. They're going to have structured competition. Maybe play the marlins are some of the other teams in that area. And so you know what we know nolan garment not only needs. It adds but he needs work. At second base is new position. He's only wet for six weeks into the position. so you know by staying in minorly camp. Nolan gorman could get more reps at second base and get ready to potentially contribute in the second half or certainly in twenty twenty two. So there's this kind of this hierarchy by the decisions that the cardinals made which tell us where they think certain players are liberty and thompson seemed to be you know more on the fast path to reach the majors and guys career gorman While they still did fine you know probably need a little more work and so they're going to stay behind in florida. Yeah you just lead me into my next question which was about nolan gorman. And harare dc them starting at aa by the way that this hierarchy works probably. Yes dan you know looking at the catcher position. tyler heinemann..

tyler heinemann johann oviedo nolan gorman ben johnson Harare zack thompson six weeks forty man Nolan gorman one hundred players nolan garment harare arthur second half florida thompson memphis four days later one month Both

"So without further ado, we said it's a Thursday that means the man himself. Danny. Mac is in the house going on man Thursdays with Danny yes. Sir, let's do it the take machine himself the hot take care that I am again, Friday eve takes it's a very. Very I think even keeled approach to randy arose arenas, how I tried to do this. Buddy he's on fire. Yeah I mean we we talk so much about Gibson and sixty eight lowering the mound bill russell changing with of the paint will they need to change maybe the rules of the weaponry eh players are allowed to take to the plate. Damage that Randy A. Good player that's why the raise wanted a man. Well I, raise wanted him. Let's pump the brakes a little bit He's about one hundred bats into his major league career. Let's talk after a thousand at bats in the League is figured him out but good on him and he's had a great run here in this postseason play. And the League will figure them out and then he'll have to make the adjustment and I'm sure he will. He's hit it every level a professional baseball also he'll be of a very solid major league player. That's the thing though. He hit at every level. Yup. Put video game numbers. Last year got better as the competition got better was doing things that the cardinals were not doing it the big league level and then I think it was fair to wonder why even when he got called up. was still behind a number of guys and didn't really get opportunities. I, think it's also fair to say that just jumping right into it Well, hang on because this is a Friday eve take. And we talked about this on one one, the cardinals evaluations and and how they operate this off season. But I'll say as people are watching this postseason you said adjustments will be made He's good player and that's why the raise wanted him. That's why the cardinals got the piece that they got back into Matthew Liberator I guess it's maybe a little frustrating for fans right now that what you need and what you needed this year offensively might be randy arose arena. Yeah. I mean Claire Man Yeah Glad to see him having success. Yeah. The cardinals need offense I mean that was clear in two thousand twenty and they needed an outfielder to provide offense. They didn't have it now they got it a little bit at the end from Dylan Carlson but they needed somebody else to provide offense from the outfield. Well, look what the guys doing with Tampa Bay it's randy arose arena. I know if you're a front office guy if you and I are running a front office, but we're not we're hot taken. So what we do, that's what we do. We come in with hot takes. Front, Office is. What they do is they evaluate these things over the course of the period of the time of the trade. So Liberty for we have to wait until it pans out when he comes up and the course of the deal with the.
