"Stern fan? I am still a big Howard stern fan. I'm no longer in their fantasy league. I guess actually how I was able to get back in. I had to leave the league because of Disney, it was just sort of, you know, Michael rappaport sort of up to the, you know, up the rhetoric in that league, maybe is the nice way to say that. And so, you know, I'm friends still with a lot of those guys. I still text with them a number of them texted me on the NBC move. Don't tell any of them, but a lot of them in the league, so text me for like half that league. So yeah, no, still a stern fan and still less than it's still friends with all those guys. It's a great show and, you know, he is to me the greatest broadcaster of my generation and probably ever, right? So it's funny, you know, you see the money that all of the NFL broadcasts have gotten and I mentioned Joe and Troy and Romo got this massive deal and Tom Brady's getting three 75 and I'm sure you know, you jump ship, you get to make more money and keep your businesses. There's no one in the history of the earth who will ever get a better deal than how it's turned off for the entire the reason I bring it up is it hit me this week. This was the week I was like, this guy need this guy back. I need new fresh Howard, the summer's over. I can't wait till Tuesday. It's time. It's time. It is. I'll tune in. I'm like, well, maybe it's a replay that I haven't heard. And so far, like all summer long, it's like, no, I'm good. And one on one has been tremendous. They've played a lot of good old stuff that I have not heard before. One O one has been tremendous over the summer. But yeah, it's time to listen to it. It's tougher for me because I have young children. I've twin daughters that are tan. And I'm having them around a lot. And so, you know, Howard's not appropriate for them. But I've got an hour commute to Stanford from my home in Connecticut each way. And so I'm very much looking forward to listening to Howard when I when I do that. Yeah, but yeah, still a huge fan. And by the way, I agree with you that no broadcast will ever get the kind of contract that power got. But by the way, I don't think any broadcaster is worth that. Serious mixed number is worth billions now and it's because of him. Like the percentage of people that signed up for that service literally because of him. There are very few broadcasts that can move that massive audience to not only pay for content, but pay for a new service at the time. Like the idea of satellite radio back then was like, wait, what? And I would think that, you know, Howard's old school and so he'll never do this. But I would think, can you imagine like you think about this? Joe Rogan got a 100 million from Spotify, right? Out super got 60 million from Spotify. Like I think if big cat and PFT were suddenly free agents, like what would those guys get from Spotify? What do you think Spotify would pay Howard Stern? Bill Bill got 200 million for the bringer, right? So people with massive audiences are getting paid massive money by Spotify. What would Howard Stern if he was going to be a podcast only? Well, I honestly thought he was going to leave serious with the last contract because I thought of Apple and Amazon and Spotify. I thought they would just break the bank, I don't know if with Howard, you never know, he's so close to this. I don't know if it was him showing loyalty to serious. I know they made like a 12 year deal where even if he goes, they have the rights to the old stuff. I don't know if, you know, maybe the other companies would have maybe one of them. He works three days a week. I know he works more than that putting the show. He's on the air for three days a week. I don't know if Spotify. I mean, I guess for Spotify that would have been fine. I don't know. I think that, I mean, I'm a hardcore Howard fan. I'm not a hardcore Howard fan like you are. I follow you on Twitter and so I know like I know levels do whatever you're on, what is it that super fan? Yeah, no, but was it Ralph frigging, what's the Mark spring? A mock string. Let's bring it. Your mark's frigging level. I'm not that level. I'm like, I'm celebrity super fan level. But not that I'm a celebrity, but I'm like, at that level. In terms of knowledge. But what I would say here is that having listened to Howard for close to three decades now, he's old school. To me, that I think he likes the idea of radio. Like I just want to say that. That's exactly the thing I was going to say. Right. He's like, look, I started my career wanted to be a morning DJ. I wanted to be Soupy Sales, right? You know, and I have been, I've been a DJ in some way, shape or form or fashion my entire life. And so right, you know, seriously, it's, you know, yes, it was pay radio, satellite radio versus, you know, over the air, but it was still radio. I just don't think he could, you know, he's had successful podcast on the show. And he was like, podcast, what could you make from that? It's just like, he's an old school guy like that. And I think he would view himself as I want to be a podcaster. You know what I mean? 100%. I want to be a radio broadcast. I'm not a podcaster. He would never say that. He would say like, yeah. I was going to say the exact same thing. He's old school. He loves the medium of radio. He has shit all over podcasts for years. So I don't know if that's a fact. But you know, I'm a firm, you know, I know the fans get mad at the schedule. I, to me, you get what you can get. And the fact that he got it, I said, God bless him. I mean, I always say that too. Like you're like, look, if last contract, if Howard said it's either I retire, or I do one hour a week, everyone would be like, we'll take one hour a week. He's getting older, getting up in the morning as a but I feel like the home studio now, you know, the schedule and the home studio now. I feel like we've gotten bonus Howard. I remember, you know, Gary's a Gary's a friend of mine, Gary del bate, and I remember talking to Gary, not in this past contract, like the contract before when it was coming up, and Gary's like, I'm like, how are you feeling? And you know, again, Howard plays it very close to the vest. I said, what do you think? He goes, he goes, I don't know. He goes, he goes, I think there's a legit shot Howard calls it quits. And by the way, if he does another deal, like that's going to be the last one. And then Howard's now since done this new deal since the one that Gary thought might be the last one. And I do think being at home has rejuvenated, he's very open about the fact that he loves being at home and he's a homebody. He doesn't want to go out and, you know, everything with COVID. I do think he would, again, my read on him. I've only met him a few times, but and I certainly not for long periods of time I wouldn't say I know him well beyond what I hear on the radio. But my feeling is that he would go crazy, that he's too creative at least that he would and he's even joked about this. He goes, I would probably retire for 6 months and then be nuts. I need to get in front of a microphone and like that's his, that's what he does. All right, so give the people now that you've moved me into NBC. Give us the full rundown before I let you go. Where everyone could find your stuff. Obviously you have the fantasy football how happy our podcast. We're gonna see you on football night in America. Is there anything else people obviously are on Twitter? What else do people need to know? So two things. So yeah, so the fantasy football happy hour is available on live at noon on peacock every day and then on demand on peacock both clips and full episodes. It's also available on demand on the NFL on NBC YouTube channel and of course wherever you get podcasts. So that's Monday through Friday. Starting not this Sunday, but the next Sunday. So every Sunday of the NFL season from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we will be doing fantasy football pregame myself and Michael Smith, my old friend from ESPN. So we're reunited. And we'll have other guests as well, including Jay croucher, who's the head trainer for points bet. He's really great. He's the guy that sets all the lines for points bet. He's really good on air. He's been my co host on the podcast and so we will more cast members to be announced soon, but we'll have a Sunday morning show that will be available on peacock and the NFL on NBC YouTube channel live 11 a.m. to one every Sunday leading up to kick-off. Football night in America, I'm also doing the wrap up show the Sunday Night wrap up show after the game with Maria Taylor on peacock. And

"I prefer Andre Stevenson. Like there's just a bunch of guys that you just you don't feel great about and they're being drafted there because, oh, there are running back. And so I don't love that particular area. And I'd much rather wait a little, I'd either get a superstar running back, first or second round, maybe even two, but if you're not doing that, if you're not getting at least one, then I would wait until after that, you know, four to 6 round running back dead zone, as I say. And then a little bit later, there are guys with more upside that I prefer Ramon Dre Stevenson, AJ Dylan, to give you an example. Travis Etienne sometimes slips, you know, like chase Edmonds, you know, I think has a nice year here. Those kind of guys. Gotcha. Can you even check your Twitter mentions? No. Every once in a while, I will. I have them, Jimmy, I have them at this point. I have them so filtered. You know, I have like, I have them, you know, in terms of high quality and. Anyway, so I will occasionally check my Twitter mentions, but not like it has to, you know, Twitter does a good job. I have a lot of people muted. Other people blocked as well. When the season starts, when the season starts, how it usually goes is and it was supposed to last year because it was on behind a paywall that people would just complain about, love hate being buying a paywall. But the normal progression is, is love hate comes out on Thursday. And I get nothing but love, I get love and questions, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday till kick-off. Right. Well, the column love the story, great fact. Who should I start? You know, this guy, that guy. That's what it is. As soon as kick-off happens, then they're MF ing me, then they're gonna have a piece of shit. You are exactly. I will say this though. Because it's interesting. And I'm gonna be fascinated to see what it's like now. Just being super honest here. That the day before, you know, in social media wasn't nearly as prevalent then as it is now, but like when I joined the day after I joined ESPN versus the day before I joined ESPN. Like whatever good, whatever level of analyst I am, whether I'm the greatest analyst ever or the worst analyst or somewhere in between. Whatever level that is, it didn't change the day I got to ESPN. But the day I got to ESPN, the feedback I would get, whether it was, you know, on Facebook at that time or from emails, it's like the minute I became ESPN's senior fantasy analyst, which was my title. Suddenly was just like, I had to know everything. Hey, absolutely. How do you not know everything a 100% perfectly? Right. And so it was super weird that literally like when I was just on my own site, you know, people were very happy for me. And then when I got to ESPN, there was just this anger. That makes sense. I got it. And it'll be interesting to see what happens now at NBC. I will tell you for all the negativity towards I will say this. I did read my mentions every single one of them. When I announced I was leaving ESPN. And we kept it really quiet. I was actually surprised it didn't leak. Thanks team to have a way of escaping, especially at ESPN. So I was surprised it didn't leak and so I think it took a lot and I hadn't really been talked about Peter king mentioned in my call and it is Colin but people hadn't really talked about the fact that I think you mentioned it in your column two, but people hadn't really mentioned that I was potentially going to be that there was an opportunity for me to potentially leave ESPN that that might be coming up soon. And so I think it took a lot of people by surprise when I announced my leaving and you never know like are people going to care? Are they going to are they going to give a shit and what will the reaction be? And we'll be like good riddance or who knows and the amount of love and positive feedback and kind words and well wishes was overwhelming. Like literally couldn't have been better if I wrote them all myself. Like it was just touch me to this day like it was one of the, one of the 5 best days of my life in all seriousness and that particular day and as I said to my wife, I said it was very cool. It was cool to be trending on Twitter and not be dead. Right, right, right. I liked it because I like anytime there's something where you get so jaded in this business and you're in every day. So like when you do see something like that, something like that where I went, wow, that's a bombshell. I enjoy it from that standpoint. I mean, we got a lot of it with the NFL at Joe and Troy going. And stuff like that. But, you know, for a writer or a podcast or to jump ship, you see it all the time when it happened with you. That was one where I think everyone was like, oh, that's an interesting move. Yeah. And then when I announced then we see a few a few weeks later and I popped up on football night in America. Again, people could not have been more kind or supportive or so and by the way, since, you know, you never know, right? You know, like I'm leaving the mothership of ESPN, this massive platform, where they have billions upon millions of people that play fantasy with them, and we're going to NBC where we don't have a game platform, right? We're purely content. And so you're like, are people going to follow me here? Everyone's wishing me well, but will they follow? And so when the when the podcast debuted at number one and I haven't checked today, but for, you know, we've been at number one in sports. Number two on Spotify. Number one on iTunes in terms of podcasts. Top 15 on both sites in terms of overall, that was mind-blowing candidly. I was thrilled that everyone's come over on NBC's obviously very happy. Well, yeah, I mean, listen, I think people who like you these days who make those big moves, it's because you have a following and those people follow and enjoy, I would enjoy all the good wishes because they're going to end the weekend. Thank you tomorrow at 1815 when Stefan Diggs has three catches for 14 yards and it's your fault. Exactly. Exactly. I've been hyping Gabe Davis and watching Gabe David score touchdown, but we call back due to penalty in your right hand. Are you at home? Right. "Still there's still some rules and I'm candidly I'm working through all that, but and learning what we can and can't do. But in essence, that's the idea. Is the idea is that it will be, it will be informed analysis that if you are in a state where sports betting is legal and you hear my analysis and Chris Simms as well I'll be doing it with Chris Simms. We think you'll be able to make a more informed decision on whether or not you want to do something. I just read a great book and I can't believe I'm forgetting the name. I don't know the, I forgot the exact title, but it was about, it's about the old NFL today with Brent Musburger, Jimmy the Greek. God, I wish I could remember. I plugged it in my column. The author was rich podski, I think, is, but I forgot the title, but it came out in December. I'm sorry. Of course. Young Titan for the Vikings. Sorry. It's a great book. I highly recommend it. It's about the old NFL today. And. You know, the stories are in there about how, I mean, especially back then, gambling was so taboo. And how Jimmy the Greek would work around it because they would pick the games. And he couldn't say, you know, I like this team minus three. You know, he would have to say, I like the cowboys. I think they win by 7. You know, he had a sort of. I feel like it's still like that in a way. They don't want you on the pregame show going. This T minus three and a half. I feel like the Dell still doesn't want that. But you don't have to be as obtuse about it. It could be a little more direct. Yeah, I mean, listen, again, I don't want to speak for the NFL, and I just got here. So the last thing I want to do is step on any toes here. I will tell you like we are, I literally haven't had this. We had the football night in America when the pregame show with the Hall of Fame game. And so we did fantasy there because it makes sense preseason. And we wanted to promote that rotor rule dot com is coming back and NBC sports edge and everything we're doing digitally here at NBC. But so the next appearance I'm making is bills at rams and we're actually tomorrow. We're having a rehearsal where I will learn, I'll be able to answer that question on Friday for you. In terms of that. But as it's been explained to me so far, is that, yes, I don't believe I will be sitting here saying like, hey, I love, you know, here's the wine, and I'm hammering the over or whatever. But I think it will say like, this is a game that I think is high scoring and here's why I think it's high scoring and here's me and Chris will be doing here's the X as it knows and here's the stats behind why we think this is going to be a very high scoring game or very low scoring game or why we think this particular player is going to have a big game or it's going to struggle, et cetera, et cetera. I would say that just to your point, it's not only is it that way, but I mean, I think about, you know, I think about Chris Berman, boom, you know, who's been a great friend to me for many years, but you know, boom, when he would do his swamp stuff, it was always like, first off, it wasn't cowboys. It wasn't cowboys eagles. It was like, I think Dallas speaks Philadelphia. 27, 21. You know what I mean? Like it would always like he'd just give us score. Always gave the score. You had to use the cities and you gave a score. You didn't say, I like the, I like the cowboys to cover the three and a half. It would be, you know, hey, you know, cowboys 24 eagles 20. You know, something like that. The Swami was great. Let me ask you a question. Yes, absolutely. A couple of fantasy things. Since I don't play, but I want to serve my audience. I want to give you a couple of things here. First of all, I will say, I'm very happy for the fantasy football players out there because with the three preseason games, now you can have your draft, you don't have to have your drift in such a little window. I would think that's a big factor this year because I know when I did play, I wanted the drift the night before the season started. I didn't want to take any chance. To do drafts so far in advance and then have to get deal with injuries. I always thought was so with only the three preseason games. I mean, people could draft starting from last from this past Monday all the way up to next Thursday, which I think is a great thing this year, right? Is that a big theme in the fantasy world this year? Really a theme. I mean, there is a lot of debate about when you should have your draft. I agree with you just in general for general redraft leagues, you know, your fun leagues, the close to the season you are, the better, right? So you have more information because injuries do happen in the pre season. Players get released, you know, you have more information in the preseason. The people in the fantasy community, though, the sharps, if you will, will say you'd rather do a draft earlier because by this time the night before the season, everyone knows. So the idea is like, for example, right now, everyone's a pre season darling as Damien pierce, who's The Rookie running back for the Houston Texans, Marlon Matt got released, and he's clearly going to the RB one. But I think for people that were drafting sharps, like we're not surprised about Damien pierce, like, you know, coming out of the draft, you know, he was somebody identified as like, here's a guy that should have been drafted higher and he's going to an opportunity in Houston where they're going to get a lot of opportunity here. And, you know, we think this is a team that, you know, they may not be able to run the most efficiently, but they're going to get a decent amount of volume. And so you could get pierced a lot later in drafts in early July than you can now. And so certainly especially if you're playing best ball if you're in a dynasty league or a keeper league, I think some people prefer to draft earlier, but I agree with you that if you were to, you know, your basic redraft league, you're not, you're not sitting there doing mock drafts, you know, in early June. You know, if you're not a hardcore nerd like me, then the best is as late as possible. But to your point, fantasy value changes all the time with every chef to tweet. Right, right. And preseason games too. Everyone says the pre season joke, but I know, when that Texans game was on Amazon Prime and pierce was running up a storm and Alan Chris was talking Alan herb street was talking them up. I was like, oh my God, the fantasy people are going nuts right now on this. As a percent, I mean, think about think about last year. Jamar chase had a couple of bad drops in the pre season and fantasy managers like, oh, we got a T Higgins, you know? Tyler Boyd, Jamar chase, hasn't played football in a year. Bad drops, and then of course, you know, obviously Jamar chase had a absolutely monster year. So pre season absolutely affects fantasy value. Sometimes I think too much. But yes. All right, so for the man or woman listening to this who's still has a draft to do. What is your number one tip? Not in terms of player, not draft Tom Brady. But number one strategy tip that you would suggest. I think it's interesting. I'll give a plug here. So we just literally did my so I have a new podcast here with NBC. It's called the fantasy football happy hour. It's also available on peacock and on the NFL on NBC YouTube channel so you can watch it on demand or you can get it wherever you get podcasts wherever you're listening to this. It's available. And we did the draft day manifesto episode literally today. So I take you through for a full hour entire draft strategy. I think you listen to that, you'll have all the theory. But if I was going to give you one piece of advice, I would say in terms of running backs, which is always a crucial position in fantasy. So I think you either want to go early on running back or you want to go late and go use a strategy in what is known as zero RB because this year there's like what's called a dead RB zone, where it's guys like Josh Jacobs and David Montgomery that you don't sit up in Montgomery might be okay, but guys that just aren't free tall, right? I think going to be more of a committee, Damien Harris.

"Pro football talk, you know? And so I mean, it's a different corporate structure and the concerns that NBCUniversal have, I think, are different than Disney, not saying they're better, they're worse. They're just different. And so that was also really important to me to be able to continue that and NBC said, not only will you continue it, will help support it. Yeah. It's very interesting to me and I don't want you to comment on this. I'm just gonna throw this out there for my listeners. Just sort of evaluate it. There's part of me that thinks, okay, you're the top fantasy guru and have been for a long time. ESPN maybe should bend the rules and to keep you. And then on the other hand, NBC, ESPN is very different from NBC that ESPN has a billion personalities talent, whatever. Where do you want to use? So if they open the door for one, they got to open the door for everyone that becomes a dis so I get, I get the situation there. So tell me, so we'll be seeing you on football night in America in the studio every Sunday Night as part of that show. About once a month, I'll travel with the so I'm going to split some time between 75% of the time I'll be in studio about 25% of the time I'll be on the road. I know that I'll be in, I will be in LA on the field for the opening night game, bills at ram. So I'll be it SoFi. I think I will be at there's a, albeit the chief's Buccaneers game in week four, I'll be at I think there's a there's a cowboys eagles game and week 6. I think I haven't memorized the schedule yet, but I think I'll be there. You're a full fledged member of the show, which is what you want it. That's great. I'm in the cast photo. Tomorrow, Jimmy, I am tomorrow we're doing we're doing individual headshots and we're doing the cast photo and I'm in the cast photo. Now, I don't know where they're going to line me up. They're probably going to line me at the very end. But I'm in the cast photo. You know what I mean? Like it's one of my take is it's like, you know, there's going to be Maria Taylor and Tony Dungey and Jason Garrett and, you know, and like I'm in the cast photo and I think for somebody from a, you know, have a fantasy person who is like, and it's not hidden. Like we're not trying to like, you know, oh, he's an analytics guy, which I am, but you know what I mean? Like it's like, it's pure on like, I'm a fantasy guy, and I'm this is part of our coverage. I'll just tell you one quick anecdote here, Jimmy, and then ask me whatever you want. But the very first day at NBC. I came in, I came here to Stanford, and the legendary Sam plot, who's the executive producer of all of NBC sports. And I got walked into a conference room. And there's probably like 25 of the monkey muckety mucks at NBC sports. And they went around, they introduced me, you know, and this is who introduced it. Fred was there, right? You know, the legendary Fred go to LA who produced his Sunday Night football and produced in the Amazon Thursday night as well. So it's like a little who's who of NBC sports in this room. To welcome me to the team and for me to ever get to know the one. And Sam just says, I want to take a moment here to welcome Matthew berry to NBC sports. He is, he's going to be a part of our NFL coverage. I just want to be clear here. Fantasy and betting are part of our NFL coverage in Matthew as the guy. Right. And I was just like, I'm blown away by that, you know what I mean? Sure. Thanks. Sounds like it's not a separate, it's not a separate thing. It is, it is part of our it is a part of how we cover the NFL here at NBC. Gotcha. All right, I'm going to move on from the ESPN NBC thing. I want to get into the business of fantasy and betting because I find it answering, like I said, you're known as the fantasy guru and have been for a long time, but you've mentioned several times that you're going to be part of the betting coverage. Could you, I mean, could you have believed when you got into this? This day would come where NFL pregame shows are embracing betting coverage. It's still hard for me to believe. It is. I'm surprised I'm not. I'm surprised in a sense like again, like I'm old enough to remember when a fantasy football convention was canceled because it was going to be held in Vegas. Right. You remember that? Yeah, Tony Romo. Tony Romo's fantasy football convention was supposed to be in Vegas and it got canceled because Annabel players were going to appear at a Las Vegas convention center. And they felt still just NFL players being in Vegas was problematic. And now there's an NFL team in Las Vegas. So I'm surprised in that sense, like from that moment that, you know, within the last whatever it was, 6 or 7 years, we went from, you can't even appear to fantasy convention in Vegas to, you know, here's the halftime show presented by DraftKings, vandals, Caesars, bed MGM, pick your, you know, whoever it is, right? Points bad, blah, blah, blah. So on and so forth. So that's shocking to me. On the other hand, like the NFL is then how smart, right? I mean, the NFL, you know, the NFL is great at a lot of things. One of which is driving revenue. You know, in the NFL, you know, they're sitting here going like, here's how the landscape is and the tone of the country has changed. I think the point of view on sports betting has changed with the overturning of paspa and other sports doing it as well. And I think there was just, I think, the NFL, again, I definitely do not want to speak for the NFL. But my, you know, whatever view from the cheap seats here is that the NFL looks around and says, okay, you know, perception of sports betting in America has changed. It is that we've done the studies. We realized like our fans really care about this. This is a way for them. It's another way for them to engage with our product. And so in a, you know, in a smart measured way, we should embrace this. And it's also, by the way, a huge revenue opportunity for us. The NFL is great at making money. You know, they are. Yeah. "Was never integrated part of Monday night countdown or sunny NFL content. Any of our biggest platforms, even NFL live. I was never, I was not only was I never a big part of any of those shows. I never was going to be. And I knew that, you know, and that's no disrespect he has been, like, it's not my job to run that company. The people that run the company have made that decision and they've done very successfully. You know, they're running a business and it works for them. But for me, it was important. And as it became apparent that there was a chance that I might leave ESPN, we had me and my agents had conversations in some cases, multiple conversations with every NFL partner. And that includes ESPN. Every broadcast partner of the National Football League. And we expressed that desire. And, you know, we felt by we, I mean, my agent, we felt pretty confident that if we left ESPN that there would be an NFL broadcast partner that would want me to be a big part of their NFL coverage, not sort of off to the side, not of like, oh, here's a small clip of them from the show or whatever and just and so that was really important to me. So you said you spoke to all the broadcast partners of the NFL, what was it about NBC that made you decide to go there? Well, there was a lot, right? I mean, first off, in my opinion, I mean, they have the best. I mean, it's football night in America. And they have the best game of the week, and I say with no disrespect to any of the other NFL broadcast partners. I think the inequality did a great job with the schedule sort of doling out all the big games. But Sunday Night is the best game of the week. It has been for a long long time, and I think it is, once again, this year, you know, you look at the schedule and it's just a ridiculous schedule, starting next Thursday night, bills at rams. That's on NBC, and then Buccaneers cowboys on the first Sunday Night and think about like week four chiefs at bucks, mahomes and Brady. Anyway, it says it's a ridiculous schedule. And so when NBC said to me, we want to put you on football night in America. And not as like not as a token, not as like you'll be from some, you know, from some set of your podcast and you'll pop on with like, here's one sleeper for 30 seconds. Like, you're going to be an integrated part of this cast. You're going to do multiple segments. And you know, I mean, it's football night in America. It's the second highest rated show, not sports show. It's the second highest rated show in all of television, second only to the actual game itself. And so it was sort of like, you know, there's a lot of other reasons at NBC. There was a familiarity and comfort level with the executives. I had multiple meetings with them and just sort of, and they recruited me. And it was really, honestly, flattering, really flattering. And the cast that they had, the getting to work with a lot of the people on fans of a lot of the people, it was and they've all been incredibly welcoming and so there was that Sunday Night game on a personal level. It's in Stanford, Connecticut, where I would be where I'm going to be based out of. So I wouldn't have to move, I went up to yank my kids out of school, I live in obviously because of ESPN. So just not having to uproot my family was a big thing. So the fact that NBC said to me, like, hey, not only is it going to be football night in America, and we want to help we want to use you to help us with peacock. But like I said, you think about the breadth of events that NBC has. Because we just talked about Olympics in any 500 Kentucky Derby NASCAR MLB Premier League, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. And obviously ESPN has a ton of events, but I was never I'm a football guy at NBC at ESPN, I was a I was a football guy purely. And so they were like, we want you to be involved in all these huge tentpole events. And we're going to look for other opportunities with some of our entertainment properties. We think there's some potential there. Just all of it. And then the last thing that NBC said to me and all of that to me is, you know, enough, right? I mean, it is sort of like you had me at hello. You had me at football night in America. But the last thing, Jimmy, and this is the second reason why I left ESPN and that NBC was into NBC said, we know you have these businesses that you've started. These small businesses, fantasy life dot com, the fantasy life newsletter, the fantasy life app. So a lot of things under the brand of fantasy life. We know you have these businesses that you care about. And ESPN has been very graciously offered me a new three year extension and a race, but part of the part of that offer was that I would have to get rid of all those side businesses that I'd built up over the last couple of years. And my previous contract with ESPN, I had carve outs for all those things. I was going to say, yeah, I mean, I should know this and I don't. And I'm sure my listeners would be confused. Like why were you able to do all those businesses and then you wouldn't be able to do all those businesses? Yeah, I think I don't want to speak for ESPN. That's not my place. But my perception, if I can, is that that my previous deal was a 7 year deal. Wow. And the sports landscape has changed significantly. And something that they were okay with 7 years ago. Right. In terms of, you know, 7 years ago, betting wasn't legal, passed but hadn't been overturned. And so I think when they approve those 7 years ago, they didn't contemplate that those businesses. Neither did I. I mean, who knew? 7 years ago. That at some point those businesses might get into sports sports betting. It might get into paid content, you know, 7 years ago, that was not a focus of ESPN or Disney, where it is now. And so I think they felt like, you know, again, I don't want to speak for ESPN, but I think they felt like my perception is that their opinion of those side businesses changed from 7 years ago as to now. Gotcha. And in terms of competitiveness or what have you. And so they basically said, here's a new deal. We love you. We want to keep you around. We'd love to, you know, norby Williamson, who I like very much and would work for norby again, love norby, norby, you know, I had a meeting with him. He's like, look, we love you here. We want you to be here as long as you want to be here. But as the conversation continued, it was new three year deal. Here's a raise, but you have to get rid of these side businesses. You have to end. We want you to focus on only ESPN, which I certainly understand a corporation having that point of view. Right. But for me, in terms of what, you know, what interests me, I've spent a lot of time building these things up. I have, we've raised investment money from investors. I have CEOs of these companies that have people that work. I mean, we have full-time employees, all these companies have full-time employees. And I think all of them sort of signed on investing in the company or came to work because they thought Matthew was going to be able to support these. One of the assets that these companies have is that Matthew can support them. And NBC back to NBC, NBC has said to me, he says, listen, Chris collinsworth owns pro football focus. Right. Jim, you know, Jim Cramer, Jim Cramer has his investment club. You know, and worth a port of those businesses, you know? Mike L'oreal, Mike

"Everyone to the SI media podcast I am your host Jimmy trainer. Thank you for listening and watching on YouTube if you're doing that. We have a good show today. Matthew berry, fantasy football guru, just made the jump for me as kenta NBC sports. Comes on and talks about his decision to make that change and what the world of fantasy football covering fantasy football is like and what he's going to be doing at NBC and some fantasy tips for fantasy players and we talk a lot about gambling and the influence of gambling these days on fantasy and on the NFL following Matthew salad is back for train of thoughts where we read some apple reviews and talk about what it's like when you meet a hero and then even get a follow from that hero on Twitter I think you guys will like that conversation. So Matthew Barry followed by train of thoughts right here on the SI media podcast before we get to it just a quick reminder. Give us any recent episodes last week, Roman Reigns, WWE superstar and Andy Staples on college football were on the podcast. Two weeks ago, Tim Burke, who was bubba Prague on Twitter, was on to talk about the excellent anti teo Doc on Netflix, Linda Cohn, and former WWE head writer Brian gartz, three weeks ago, check those out in the archives. If you missed them and subscribe to the SIV podcast, they will review on Apple. We will read it down the road. And that's it. Let's get to it, Matthew Barry followed by train of thoughts right here. On the SI media podcast. All right, joining me now, man, it was made a big media shift at a time when his content is in high demand as the fantasy football season gets ready. He is Matthew bury the longtime fantasy football all sports, Matthew, how's it going? It's going great, Jimmy. How are you, my friend? Well, thank you for asking, busy time of year for you as we all get ready for the football season. Pray for the football season, yearn for the football season. We all need the football. Do you still do fantasy baseball? I know that was big for you with your new deal here. You left the ESPN, you're at NBC now. We'll get into it. Are you still doing all the sports? What are you going to dabble in? Well, so on a personal level, I haven't played I didn't play fantasy baseball last year, just got too busy. But, you know, I'm in a fantasy basketball league. I do, you know, I do, you know, March Madness, brackets, and that kind of stuff. I've done, I've played it all. Like if there is a way to keep score on it, I have played a fantasy version of it, but I've been in I've been in fantasy NASCAR. I've been, I do fantasy hockey. So you name it. And I think one of the exciting things for me is at NBC, I will be doing multiple sports. So I will be doing fantasy and betting analysis for not just the NFL, which would be my primary focus, but some of NBC's tentpole events. So think about The Kentucky Derby you think about the Indy 500, you know, obviously they have the Olympics. They have the French Open. They have, you know, their partners with NASCAR and Premier League and Major League Baseball. And so I'm really excited about that diving more into a lot of other sports. But football is in will always be my bread and butter in my true love. It's everyone's bread and butter. So speaking of bread and butter, let's get into this. I know you've talked about it a little bit here and there, but for my listeners. Sure. Why did you leave ESPN after I believe 15 years? 15 years, yeah, I mean, I think ultimately for me and, you know, I want to say this off the top because ask me whatever you need to ask me or whatever you want to ask me. I'm happy to get into this and I'm excited to talk about it to an audience that is interested in sports media. But just I'll stay off the top that ESPN did right by me. Nothing bad to say about them. The reason Jimmy that you care about me, the reason that anyone's listening to this interview is thanks to the power of those four letters. And so, you know, please take everything that we're about to talk about here with the idea that I leave ESPN with love in my heart and nothing but good things to say about the company. But in terms of why I defeated why I decided to leave is that I thought ultimately that for this stage my career, there were a couple things that were really important to me. In addition to just the obvious stuff, right? So the obvious stuff is, of course, being able to take care of my family and provide for my wife and kids. And also be able to do fantasy and ultimately betting analysis on, you know, we always want to have a large platform and be able to broadcast or write to as many people as possible. So with those caveats, the things that were most important to me were I wanted to be part of NFL coverage. I think that when you have a fantasy conversation when you have a betting conversation, you're having an NFL conversation. I don't think they are separate. They were maybe back in the day, but that is a, you know, when if you and I were to have a fantasy conversation right now, we're doing the same thing. We're talking ball. We're just, you know, we have a slightly different lens on it, but it's the same thing. You're talking about players, you're talking about matchups, you're talking about the game and what you think will happen or what happened and why it happened. So I think it's an important conversation. And to your point about like being everyone's bread and butter, the NFL is the premier sports league in the world. And I believe fantasy is a massive way that fans engage with the NFL. And I wanted to be, I wanted more closely aligned with NFL coverage. I wanted to be a part of it. So that was reason one. And let me interrupt just real quick just to get into, I just want to follow up on that because I know, I don't know if people listening and thinking this, but what I'm thinking is the ESPN has NFL coverage and they probably have it better than ever now. The NFL is giving them a good schedule. Joe buck Joe Troy Joe buck, Troy Aikman, they're getting better games. They're getting more playoff games, Super Bowl down the road. So is it that ESPN never had you on their NFL coverage or because ESPN has NFL coverage. So I'm just curious. Correct. I mean, I've done some NFL coverage over the years, you know, when I first started there, I actually, I would do a segment on Sunday NFL countdown, I had a, from the set of the fantasy show on ESPN+, we would do a 45 second hit that would run on Monday night countdown that was sponsored. It was a sponsored element. So, you know, that one of the sponsors had paid for there to be a fantasy element and said they would use me for that. So, you know, when I, you know, over the years, I've popped up on NFL live. I haven't recently in the last couple of years, but I was there 15 years. So I've certainly done so I popped in and out of NFL coverage at ESPN. But in terms of where the company sits today, at least at the time that I was still there, fantasy, the fantasy department and the fantasy coverage of ESPN. And the NFL department, the NFL coverage, are two separate entities. The people in charge of those entities are different people. There's not a lot of interaction between the two interactions, probably not the right word, but there's just there's not a lot of overlap. I should say, maybe that's a good way to say. And so, you know, we did our, you know, Sunday NFL countdown had their own producers and their own cast and, you know, fantasy football now on ESPN2 Sunday mornings had their, you know, I was part of that show and we had our own production staff and a lot less promotion. And so the answer is that, yes, ESPN has a lot of NFL coverage and they do a really good job with it. And they've been real successful with how they've approached it. They just, whether it was they just, they didn't dig me or they just didn't believe fantasy was a part of, they just, it just wasn't going to be, I

And it's going to be really fun to be able to watch this play out live every night. I can't wait. And what about my kukupa in the hall of fame. Well i'll tell you that that's going to happen. He was a finalist this year. Normally there is a progression. You go through like you become a finalist and then you may not get in the first time you become a finalist. I predict michael. Cooper will be in the hall of fame within three years. He was the best defensive player on nine different finals. Teams the lakers. Don't win magic's five. Titles without micra. And the tesseract get ultimately stolen by loki. And then we don't know where loki goes with the tesseract And so the premise of loki. The show on disney plus starts with that team literally that scene and the premise of the show is what happened with. Loki disappeared from vendors and game in that moment and so Yes people are like matthew. I can't believe lucky escape. And i'm like yes. The league does that just to give us just to give us up to give fodder so alexi lawless who is the soccer analyst was talking about chicken wings okay and he described them. Here's here's what he said. In a tweet he said chicken wings are ridiculous food if it can even be considered food. It is an abomination in a basket. Now is that not kind of un-american. We love our chicken wings. That might be the worst take and alike. Alexi is great. There's a big soccer game last night. Usa guatemala guatemala. We beat on jurists. Thank you greg. And so i like alexi nothing against him but this reminds me of the time. When josh heart tweeted one line white castle is better than in and out of god. Stupid is the scariest movie of their childhood. I'm happy to take calls but well well john. I saw them right. So let's try mo- again. No can you hear us. Yeah allow me to bring a little levity to this situation foods Scary movie that stuff. That didn't bother me because they back. Then that based on a reality my the movie that really really shook me up And i was actually a little bit older but the move there should be was boys in the hood. Okay when you come from. Oh mo- i don't think can wrong here. I don't i was i was. I was an athlete. I played college football. And so but where i come from. I saw people get killed outside. People get shot up. People fall into drugs Throat situations. And i had good family. Okay i went to a gary very very good school and i played college football there but my biggest fear was the situation with with morris. Chestnut who was name was ricky. That was an all star. Cast by the way if you go back and look at catholic cuba gooding junior. I think everything so but to see him be such a good athlete. And he's on his way to usc the east coast. You're not just usc but the goal is to usc. And then to be gunned down like that. That was like do that cannot happen like anything but that you you like a guy like that is not supposed to have that type of ending and that really really messed me up there. I mean in a way that said don't let you don't let yourself become that person don't be and that situation but sometimes it happens and it's not your choice but that was a that was a. That was a rough on for me. Yeah i late. Great john singleton. Who i think was the first african-american director to be nominated for best director at the oscars. Great movie great movie but scary agi totally. Get the fear and that that's just like real life. Fear it's not like some slimy monster and ernest goes to whatever scared stupid and it was terrifying idiot. Eric inconven- hey eric. You're on seven ten. Espn guys well..

"Yup and john hates my quarterback picks. Got jalen oh yeah. That's right we're going to get. We're gonna get matthew on here in a second to judge these rosters blind. He does not know who's roster is. Who's and the winner according to matthew. We'll get twenty five hundred dollars for back in mythical dollar spending spree and taylor if you get them just speak up. Just come around in the air and say god and i after matthew. I'll tweet out both of our rosters and you can weigh in on who's got the better roster right and every year we'd been in the same football fancy football league for years. Bergman was in it for a while but okay we admit. Our league is somewhat archaic. Yeah bit it. It tends it. Tends to i mean even even now mace. If you wanna make roster moves in our league you can't do them on the internet. You you have to email the commissioner and he does it yup like we're one of the few leagues. It's still does that. We're also one of the few leagues that in most standard scoring leagues. If your quarterback those touchdown pass you have four points in our league you get six points and we don't give a lot of points for for number of lake. Matthew has said over the years that are he's referred to our league as ancient prehistoric as stupid. All of those things actually are true. We just have never amended our rules and joining us. Now is the one and only talented. Mr matthew berry matthew. Great to talk to you man how you doing. Hey guys i'm good always great to talk to you guys Happy new season as it. Were yeah listen I the worst. You said was somewhat archaic. Like i mean like stone age like honestly like i mean it's like like i mean like i mean again like you had me at. You can't make moves online like most leagues have mobile apps. You can at least make move on your mobile app. Is he planning. Espn you can. You can use You can use our app right and just make moves you pick up a player like you know when the injury happened to like what happens. Does that you're gonna meet during your phone now. You have to look literally like how how. How do you have to email. The commission like you said committed dropped this guy. And i want to pick up this guy. You have to do it before noon on friday and we argued. We'd love this commissioner. He's been the commissioner for thirty years and he does all the work. He's a great guy but the problem is if we if we try and change the rules too much. Were afraid we're gonna lose them and somebody else left to do the work. So so that's why we keep doing it that way but here are a couple of things before you tell us which one of these teams is better. Goodness our founding fathers were as lazy as all of you guys have made happened in our country. You know like whoa we. None of us want extra work. So we're just going to. We're just gonna keep doing it. This awful awful backwards way right. It's even worse than you think he. He opened the draft last night. By saying hey guys my son's getting married so i'm gonna be gone weekends. Can anyone fill in. And it was like a bunch of lawyers in a stock brokerage. Everybody would know nobody. Okay so matthew in our league part of this prehistoric thing you're talking about in most standard scoring leagues. If the quarterback throws a touchdown pass you get four points in our league. He gets six points or it's or is that many do like in your lease that you're in. If a quarterback does a touchdown pass how many points do you get. I mean standard scoring is four. But i've seen plenty of leaks. Have get a six point for touchdown pass. That one's not a weird. That one's fine okay. So we get that. And then we don't reward like a receiver could get fifteen catches. It doesn't matter appr. We're only we only rewarded for yards. You get a point if you're a receiver running back. You get a point for every twenty yards and if your quarterback you get a point for every fifty yards other than that. It's still the same so on one team. We haven't we haven't said anything and we haven't told you who drafted who so on one team by team won. The starting lineup is jalen. Hurts a quarterback christian. Mccaffrey and mike davis or the running backs. Aj brown terry maclaurin. George kittle are the receivers of and the dolphins defense kickers are all the same so it doesn't really matter on the other team. Patrick mahomes a quarterback. Austin one running back gerald henderson at the other darren waller tyler lockett odell beckham and the rams defense matthew team one or team to and by the way we have twenty five hundred dollar mythical money bet on whoever you pick the other guy has to cough up two thousand five hundred i was. Is there a clear winner in your mind between team one team to. I think they're close. But yes i have a team that i prefer. Okay which one that. I prefer one and why it it is team. One team one with Team on with jalen hurts. Who my bold prediction. If you read my love hate column today. My bold prediction what am able predicted. That jalen hurts. Finishes is the number one quarterback and fantasy. You have the number on play player in chris. Mccaffrey i love those receivers in. Aj brown and terry maclaurin right. I have both guys as top. Ten wide receivers Mike davis is fine number. Two running back. You know not a lot of competition in atlanta. Who's the tight end of that team. I forget seattle tied in kale. Yeah i mean right right so it's like that to me top to bottom. There's no weak link and team like the weakest link is mike davis and again i think is a viable rb to arthur smith. Taking over in atlanta loves love to use his running backs. Obviously mike davis very differently. Built derrick henry but they want to play action. They're gonna use them even ice pass catcher as well..

It's funny because you could just basically walk right in and destroy yourself around. There was no admission or anything. My momma called that. There are probably bought one hundred and fifty other people there that day. I imagine all of them pulled up in dodge caravans. Most certainly there was a there was a critical mass of dodge caravan. Certainly we make our way to the outfield to have a catch with dad. You do have to fulfil ryan. Of course the have a catch with dad seen that gets everybody crying where kevin costner has tossing the ball with you know the ghost of his dad. Dad catch yes but as a kid thinking that sentimentally the thing i remember. I didn't just want to play catch. I really wanted to make a play. You know what. I mean like my field of dreams web gem moment throwing these nice easy balls. It's just a simple game of catch. And i'm kind of bored with it. I'm like this is a challenging enough. So i say dad throat over my head so that i can run dive and catch it and have my moment. Yes so what happens next well. I got my dad online. Taking alvin kamara early in your fantasy. Football draft is pretty much a no-brainer. Anyone can do that. But like in real life building a fantasy championship roster requires discipline. It requires principles so today with fantasy draft season now upon us. We bring you news you can use. As the king of the keeper league be pharaoh of the flex position basaltic of survivor pool the helper of cove himself matthew berry shares his draft manifesto and the habits that enabled him to build a truly ridiculous life. I'm pablo torre. It's friday august thirteenth. This is espn daily matthew berry. You are a personal fantasy football conciliatory to like legitimate a list celebrities rappers actors athletes. And i've summoned you here. Because i want to give our listeners. The same vip treatment. Because i'll be honest you. America is addicted to football both real and imagined. And you've manufactured this entire incredibly strange career premised on the latter. I've been very blessed and thanks to the popularity of of fantasy football and espn. I've gotten to experience. And meet a bunch of amazing people that i never would have. Otherwise matthew berry is espn's fantasy football expert and the co host of the fantasy. Focus podcast so incredibly grateful and Yeah it's been a good ride. It's definitely been a good ride. No question yeah. I mean look you're fantasy league with jay z. You're on a fantasy league with all of the avengers. That has not even a joke. That's a thing that you do. I'm actually in the avengers movie. That's the crate meeting in a fantasy league isn't that crazy beaming and the highest grossing movie of all time. Worldwide is a crazy thing to me. Nothing very further record yes on. Imdb an agent of shield innovators endgame congratulations unnamed dropping yourself that is an incredible accomplishment necessarily unified guest. I are we done. Is that good. We've done the interview. We're no hold on hold on. Yeah so what. I what view now is numbers instead of names. How many fantasy drafts have you participated in your lifetime. In general like ballpark. Do you think at this point. Oh how many lifetime. I mean hundreds of thousands. I would think so many if you include mock drafts if you include. Yes like what. I'm doing if i do like a draftkings or a fan duel or where you know setting a lineup. Like the process of selecting players. I mean hundreds of thousands of times hundreds of thousands of drafts at so. I'm just trying to like that. Is that is a staggering thing. Try and imagine as a matter of just like calendar timeshare but but speaking of which where are we at this point in your calendar year matthew. The way you live your life. How busy are you right now. How do you describe for those uninitiated into your inner circle. What it's like to be you right now. Listen i'm an accountant and it's tax season. It's crazy busy to be honest with you. Pablo i am so just today. I'll give you an example so today we're supposed to be writing my big. Preseason love hate com. Which is my biggest common season. But i won't start my writing process until about seven o'clock tonight because i'm doing this podcast We're doing a were not sportscenter featured piece for the marathon. I've meeting about the fantasy full marathon. Which is starts next tuesday at seven pm. Doing a new episode of the fantasy show on espn plus tomorrow. So i have a meeting with producers about that so all that stuff is gonna lead up until seven o'clock when actually can turn off the phones and do my job that makes any sense. It's like the hearing what feel like meeting or email alerts in the background which just adds to this notion though. Okay no this is. This is the documentary. That i wanna make with you. Matthew this is the peak which is sort of fitting right like fantasy football league experience. If we're being honest with ourselves is really about the draft yeah totally. These are the two busiest weeks of my Generally every year. And you know you're getting taxed from from friends and people who writes rappers movie stars. Ceo's the whole bit brand asking for You know asking for fantasy advice asking who you like. But that's the gig powell. That's that's the reason it's when people are like that. I mean people are like. Hey i trust your opinion because you know fantasy football serious businessman. You don't want to screw up your draft and so I'm always. I'm always flattered when people reach out and want my help and guidance so i am here to ask for your help and guidance to really just open my third eye of fantasy football because listen you have this manifesto that you've written that you right after now. Forty years or so of experience it's on espn dot com. It is called the seven habits of highly effective drafters. So let's get to habit one because it turns out matthew that there is stuff that i need to do before i even enter the physical or increasingly now virtual draft war room so before i even see the spread the dips various vices. I indulge in on fantasy draft day. What are you to do. What's the first habit you have to understand what you're preparing for right. You're going to need but like it's not just enough to know about your players. Somebody's like hey. I'm in a tight and premium scoring league with pick three. Is that too early kelsey. What that means is that titans get more points for the receptions than other players so you might get half points per reception but if you have a tight end you get a full point for reception in an scoring system like that. Yes travis kelsey is absolutely worth a top three pick. I guess put another way like okay. Hey pablo i want you to go. Take a driving test and you'd be like okay. Great but jimmy like well as it. A stick schefter is a you know is automatic. What a nightmare my god. What a nightmare. E stickshift driving test would be for me right or just anyone like you know like when i was a kid. No way was i doing that. I can't even drive a stick shift now. the idea. there is like what you see. you know. You have to parallel park. Is it going to be a written test is going to be a driving test. Like you're you're gonna be on. Are you going to be in on you. Know on back roads or are you going to be on the freeway like you gotta know what you're preparing for so understand what you're scoring system is understand. How many people are in your league understand. You know things like how big is the roster size right. we're going into a season where covert is likely to impact the game again. Are you gonna have. Irs spots gonna have spots that allow you to put players that have been placed on the kobe. Nineteen list ended. I are spot if you have. I spots you can take more chances on injured players but if you have a limited bench you only have like four or five bench spots and no i are like you know what pretty much everyone on. The bench is going to need to contribute at some point. I can take less flyers. Okay so i understand why knowing the law of the land is vitally important. I'm getting all my accounting. And order..

"Is making sure that ready exactly. Listen listen. he's a company that's exactly that's the one they have. They have a win. Win percentage by based on draft slot a aspect. A little thing one of their tools and it shows that the early for two three draft spots have a higher percentage of winning your league most years and or if not all years so what three are does three hundred hundred versus does is it flips that round to give the back end a little bit of an extra boost to try to counter that effect in balance. It where you have a you have more even shot to win from all draft thoughts in in my experience. Sometimes that happens. Sometimes it over corrects. Like a year where. Mccaffrey and barkley go out. It's going to. it's going. Overcrowded dragged back end. But that that's the idea behind third-round reversal is to even out the your chances of winning from all draft spots and so that which puts interesting thing because i'm trying to you have graciously offered me to pick my own draft spot in the league and decide. Do i want one or do i want like i'm thinking more six like in the middle of around just to going back and forth on that i don't i don't want twelve but yeah the third round reversal makes the first pick a little dice here. Yeah a little dice here. And so is getting mahomes or mccaffrey. Or kelsey worth it versus. You might get six. But i thought from a homes is just that thirty. Some pics into the into league fifteen quarterbacks could be gone you know yes so i that's it all depends on your league. Every draft is different. But that's my fear so that's probably why would lean that and i think i think you're absolutely right to that. Fear like the league last year. That quarterback crazy. I picked my first quarterback in the at the at the basically the end of the third round top of the fours rights aware. Where which would be your second pick now with a third round reversal. Yeah it was. It was daniel jones But you know who obviously thought last year was gonna be good year but dave jones and he was quarterback twenty like before. You think like oh. I can't believe you reach for daniel. Jones like nineteen quarterbacks went before it got to me in in essence. What would be my number two. Pick this year Yeah my my league was like quarterback crazy. I think i tweeted something like find yourself. Somebody looks at you the way my league. What's quarterbacks drubbing raise just insane and You know and so the other piece of it. It is interesting is that this is not alive. Drafty email dropped. It's a slow draft. How does your scott. How does your strategy change when you're in a slow drive by the way and by the way the first year i was ever in fishbowl cuts the concert. It'd be great. you should do it. It's fun and charity. you know. Help promote above awesome like right. Yeah i'll try it. I'm happy to help out do it. Can you know believe the cause. And he puts me the link again. This is a we. We're not going to year scott fishbowl and my league. That first year was the second. Slowest draft and scott fishbowl history. I think it's correct that i think a that title. Yes it was unbelievable. I hate every single person that lead. And i got i got boned out of You know. I got bowed out of james conner. That was the lady annabel. Hold out here in Because my league was taking every single person was taking twelve hours to make their pick. Schefter broke the news. That le'veon bell was thinking about what was going to hold out like inbetween. Yeah everyone else was done on but before you tried before it could get connor and it was like in the seventeenth round and i looked at the adp. And like james conner was going like the twenty was going like in the twentieth round the nineteenth twentieth round going much later and so i was gonna take him like in the seventeenth. I was gonna take two to three rounds early just to have them. But then you know shepherd breaks the news and all these other leagues. We're done if i'd been in any kind of league from now on. You just need to talk to adam to run the news by you. I yeah heard before. Yeah yeah or maybe talk to scott fish about not putting me in a slow was to beings on the earth and what does it. How does the strategy change for you. Scott in terms of a slow graft versus You know one where you're picking every minute minute and a half you know i. I wish that i had a great answer for this for. But i don't i don't change my strategy much at all. Like for the slow drafts. I think just when i get on the clock. I go reassess the league in where it's adding seattle. How the draft has played for my the whatever strategy i was going after for the previous picks we alive draft. You just don't have time for that. I guess i guess that's the only real difference. You just don't have time for as much strategy. You only have a minute to try to figure out. I think in a in a slow draft. You can kind of play out your next few rounds as you're making your pigs like mentally played out out you'll get a chance to win a live draft so Yeah i think. I think that's right so a couple of last questions very minimal. What yogurt so. We asked for some twitter questions from our some of our listeners. dirk thornton asks if it was my first time in the league. Hypothetically speaking of course piece of advice you'd give to have the best chance of having raped. Team won for first timers in the scott fishbowl. What's the piece of advice you'd you'd give them for. Having the best chances of success honestly i would say it because having your best chance of success it's really. The scoring system is always incredibly balanced across the position. So if you know going in you're going to have one position it's going to be weak and the rest of the okay but you'll come out of it happy because it's got the prefers down for running backs that helps them. It's got pr that helps wide receivers. Lots of flexes helps wide. Receivers superplex helps quarterbacks tight end premium. boosts tight ends. No matter what you do. You're going to feel good about your team. One thing i do like to do though is to have a decent stable tight ends. They're the they're the anchor. They're so safe. A four for forty day out of a tight end could be a double digit fantasy day. And that's a pretty easy common stat line for tight ends. So i like to. I like to buoy my teams with some some of those middle tier tight ends. That can they can stabilize a decent. Like at least give you a nice floor. You always got the other thing you gotta do. Because it's this big huge tournament with nine thousand nine hundred people you have to take risks. You have to go for guys that are that have an possibility to explode. Otherwise if you go safe the whole time you're probably not going to win the thing you might make. The playoffs. might make a little run but you probably need to take a few risks if you guys that can explode mentioned having wanting to have a nice stable of tight ends. Use the word buoy on which doesn't often happen on this podcast. Interesting choice awards there. But rob warner asked on twitter. Who is your favorite sleeper tight..

dave jones daniel jones daniel james conner rob warner seventeenth twelve hours dirk thornton seventeenth round adam twelve second pick Scott third round kelsey Schefter last year connor nineteen quarterbacks twentieth round

"Jameis winston. This is right. Exactly this is james. Winston literally can kill your you know minus sixteen Half point p pr With a negative point per incompletion point. Ppo half per completion minus one. Point per incompletion yeah. Basically completion percentage of a quarterback manners. Right yes so highly accurate quarterbacks Matter in in this particular league yep it's tight and premium so it means so you get a half point. Pr for all the positions except for tight ends where you get a full point cracks. Oh travis kelsey becomes travis kelce. He's going to be a top five pick and pretty much every draft this year. I would first rounder most ears for yes and you also get half a point per first down both and receiving yep poor thirsty kyle was trying to do projections there and drove him crazy to see you know And then kickers get kicked decimal scoring. There's one too. So i think it's an important thing because the scoring so weird but it's just an it's an important lesson to always know your league scoring and look at those look at those quirks and you know what what these scoring two quarterback becomes pretty important in these leagues. Tight ends having tight ends. That that Do well become really important. Listen staying healthy. Obviously is important but having accurate quarterbacks that don't throw interceptions becomes wildly worked. Yeah i do this specifically with the quarterback scoring. I brought it in last year specifically for the reason to show people. You can adjust your quarterback scoring so that good quarterbacks get really good. Points and bad quarterbacks can really hurt you. It really separates the normally quarterbacks you can stream those quarterback thirteen through seventeen or whatever and make up for the difference in this. You don't want bad. Quarterbacks good quarterbacks a lot more value in something like this and it separates the tears between them. I know that you have the you have the number one. Pick in your own league. Somehow that worked out and always take number one or number twelve just. It's still busy day for me. I need a corner sure. And so you have the number one pick. And i've seen some mocks. And there's a whole by the way scott fishbowl community out there in terms of where once you know your draft spot like if you're picking whatever force you can find a chat with all the people that are picking four in their individual leagues of scott fishbowl and you can people talk about strategy and there's all sorts of moxico on and there are there are charity best ball leagues where you can draft from your own spot as well. Yep and so I guess. I probably should have screwed ice created by saying this but by the way. If you're unfamiliar with fishbowl basically everyone's divided into these nine hundred hundred people are divided into twelve team leagues. I should have just done this. They're all divided in twelve team leagues. They play through is a week twelve week. Thirteen this year. I haven't loved duprat. it's it's going to be eleven or twelve. I believe it's it. we have to. We have to start early because with them may teams. You need to you. Need to You need to have the playoffs. Be longer to have cuts each time right now. Basically they'll check. Yeah so the double. The upper half of your league makes the play off of your division makes the playoffs and then you know the the gets habte basically a Every week that it goes on so mine playoffs between everybody and then half the field gets axed every week until you get to a champion pretty much. Yes so you have the number one pick. Scott are you taking mahomes. I've seen Mahomes go number one overall in some mocks. I've also seen mccaffrey obscene kelsey. I've seen you know. I've seen those seem to be the three that i see the most that the those are the three considerations at number one yup. Is there anyone else that you're considering. That's the that's so two questions. Are you taking mahomes if not who you taken and also who are. Is there anyone out of the other than those three that you would consider it one. I don't know that there's anyone outside of those three for me. There's there's i guess. There's a couple of the top quarterbacks but it's gotta be mahomes if you're one on one i actually. I actually flipped to do the twelve. Now you didn't know about this. But i actually flipped. I'm going to do the twelve now because it's my league. I'm going to do that but at the one on one. I would probably take mahomes just because of the third round reversal. I'm i would be picking one. Oh one and then i would pick again one dot twenty four but then it reverses so i don't get the one dot twenty five i have. I have to wait another round so right so the third round reversal. I think is important in and so for people that know what that is. It's exactly what scott just described so typical snake draft. You know one through twelve and then twelve through one in the second round but instead of the third round starting with the first pick the third round starts once again with the person picking twelve getting the first pick of round three right and the idea behind. This is what the the idea behind this. It's actually been around for like fifteen years and there's two types of three are through third round reversal. The i is it. Snakes for two rounds than the entire drought flips on its head and it snakes for the entire draft. That's what we're doing. that's the most common. The other one is where the third round is. The only round that's reversed its you. You set up the whole draft one way and the third round is the only one that's reversed but the idea behind it and if you're a subscriber to wrote of is or row pass because wrote a visit part of our pass correct got that in there for you matthew appreciate that promo code six zero gets you. AP Source: Chargers' team doctor punctured Taylor's lung

"Adam, Schefter just reported that tyrod Taylor. The reason why he did not get to play this past week in an intern air bear started for the first time against Kansas City chiefs at ended with hitting a fifty eight yard field goals and another fifty eight yard field goal. But a highly contested matchup between the chargers the chiefs it is now being reported that the chargers team doctor accidentally punctured his own quarterback tyrod Taylor's lung just before kick-off. Sunday while trying to administer a painkilling injection to the quarterbacks cracked ribs league and team sources have told ESPN. According to my sources. Adam Schefter says, now, this sounds terrible whenever you give your I read this and like especially the way she afterward it there the chargers team doctor punctured his own quarterbacks lungs, and that sounds absolutely bad and I was kind of mind blown by this believe it or not. We are given a heads up on this yesterday but we're not a big news breaking world I don't want to dive into the news breaking world because there's a bunch of Peron in sharks in. Going ever dive in there. So I asked around to a couple former teammates in friends of mine that have maybe gotten the same procedure how the hell can something like this happens this sounds terrible in the answer I got from everybody who has had this procedure done, which by the way is marketing, which is in the Novacaine. There's another Cain the mark which is. A numbing agent basically that gets shot directly into the area that is injured for instance, in this particular case, the cracked ribs. Now, the reason why it's done. So close to game time is because it only lasts four four and a half hours so they can't get it done in the morning because the numbness wear off, they can't get it done the night before because. Off they have to do it right before the game, which is why it was surprised to everybody that air bear was starting over tyrod Taylor, including Air Bear, and I would assume the entire chargers offense. Now, what happens though just like whenever you're in surgery now granted this happened to the people I talked to harm percents short happened to tyrod Taylor but just like whenever you go in for surgery for anything, they tell you the possible side effects this could. Potentially happen because surgery this could potentially happen. It's like basically this small print at the bottom of contracts like, Hey, this is all the good looking come from this but also this can happen every person that I talked to got a similar treatment as this said that they were told by the doctor that there was a chance that along could get punctured in the process because when you're giving a shot into the ribs, the long obviously is right there one. A. Hundred percent sure of tyrod Taylor. Was told that before we got the shock. I'm just telling you what I was told by people who got very the exact same situation here free. The bruised ribs are cracked ribs allegedly this is a much more common practice than even I knew about I've probably seen guys potentially get this shop before and didn't even know this was happening because I had nothing to do with me but I guess this is a pretty Common practice whenever you have a crab or bruise rib because it works like a charm I was told and I was also told that they shoot it a little bit above wherever the crack or the bruises in. Let's just settling in for four and a half five hours. You feel amazing. It's that next day you see more that night when it wears off that you feel absolutely terrible thus why I am incredibly happy that I played a position where no motherfuckers. where I could potentially need that. So that is what happened. We obviously tease piece for the punctured lung and the cracked ribs for tyrod. Taylor but from my knowledge of my research calling people that got a similar thing, they said that they were told that was a possible outcome. It's like point one percent that it could happen. But in surgery just like anything in the medical field, there is obviously a chance at something bad to happen it happened tyrod Taylor. I'm not giving an excuse for the doctor do your fucking job right? Especially whenever the people that told me, they said it's like a ninety nine. percent chance it goes well and nothing happens. So if you get that one percent and it's a failure, obviously the doctor did not do here and I would assume would have to answer for that. But that is what I've been told about this entire process. That is why it was such a shock to everybody including air bear who said he was surprised in ancient said, let's go and do this. So I think that is why everything happened the way it is I've been told I'm not a doctor they are not doctors but a punctured lung on punctures itself somehow I don't know that means I guess. Shout out to the human body for puncturing itself. He could play week to week is really could potentially play next week. What do you say day breaking news just from in report he's not GonNa play this week harbored is going to start. Okay. So here we go. There's big news not playing this week. So as long isn't completely on punctured and also. I think that is why because the way one down in him losing the starting job was actually the chargers fault that is why Anthony Lynn came out and said unless. tyrod is he's still are started because I would assume Anthony Len former player was like we gotta fuck this guy here. So whenever he was asked about who's the starter even after incredible debut by Air Bear in the game that they had against the Super Bowl Champs Anthony Lynn probably was. I mean, we couldn't say it obviously because worn one hundred percent. Sure because at the time they're probably still reviewing and Anthony Lane. Prada. Didn't get a chance to do a full checkup on house whatever the case maybe didn't and he didn't want to be like. tyrod Taylor's by the way. We're the reason he's out and he is we made this disease like they. Couldn't say that. So that's why I think I was confused by the way insulin handled the question I think a lot of people are potentially confused but now we know air bear starting this weekend tyrod Taylor not only has cracked ribs but also punctured lung hopefully that unpunctual quickly we're not doctors they have no idea but it is nice to know that this type of thing does happen has happened in the past we probably. Haven't heard about it for whatever reason, and this is something that happens on a regular basis with success. So it's not like they were going above and beyond to make him put him on the field. This is something that has happened in the past

What could TE Austin Hooper bring to Packers offense?

"Was a report from. I think it was robbed a mosque. Who covers the Green Bay packers and he made you know at least the packers are aware that they need more pask actors? They reportedly planned to add two of them via free agency and the draft. And you can certainly get a bunch. But I'm not sure that the guy that he talked he said they're played into. Target Austin Hooper. I'm not sure that's what Aaron Rodgers really needs. I would rather see somebody more explosive. I don't know what you think about that but either released Jimmy Graham who's just Zaslov signing for them. I would note that Matlin. Flair was the Falcons quarterbacks coach when Austin who was a rookie in two thousand sixteen in Atlanta But Yeah I. I don't know I'm not sure awesome. Hooper is exactly what fixes. What's wrong with Green Bay right now? Which is clear. It's Green Bay at margin only feels comfortable throwing to Davante Adams. Yeah I think they're awesome. Hooper would be fine signing You give the packers a solid possession tight end just really reliable. Almost eighty percent career catch. Ray Can block enough from a dynasty standpoint. He would block J Sternberg who drafted in the third round. This past year in. I mean I really liked him coming at a at a Texas. A&m But you know. Yeah he he would be a big roadblock in the way of j Sternberg. I'm completely with you. Though in Syria I mean I. I think that they should sign two guys. I mean I think that Al Having Allen Lazard as your number two option. The passing game isn't good enough and I think that even if they signed someone like Austin Hooper. I think should go robby Anderson. You know I think that Robbie Anderson Opposite Davante Adams would give them Just a completely different dynamic in their passing game. I think that they need some any they I think they need an explosive field stretcher. And Yeah if I was. I would focus on a guy like Robin Anderson. I mean mark has vowed is scant laying in theory had the skill set to be that guy but he just did not take a second year. Yeah there were some reports from Our friend Matthew Berry had noted that era jittery like Salazar staff-related Allen. So I think they're going to add a wide receiver for sure. But for now I would consider Allen Lazard the front runner for the number two wide receiver job. Assuming they don't add anybody which then was certainly

"Is perhaps the lease refined thrower they'll face during their schedule this year. Put such a bad defense. That's a brutal defense. And honestly the falcons again this game is in Atlanta. So we expect the falcons spill to put up some points on Dallas. So I think this could be there's a little bit of shootout appeal here as well. And just to your point about that Prescott. So add Atlanta this week field. But then home to Washington home to the saints home to Philadelphia three straight home games at Indian week fifteen week sixteen the championship game in many leagues home to Tampa Bay. And then if he played an ESPN Stanley which goes to week seventeen at the giant it is a really favorable schedule coming up here for Dak Prescott here each of the next six games indoors or retractable roof as well. So good good. Good conditions to your point. He started rushing more. I think the I think having Amari Cooper, just stretching the field opened things up for that. And not only does it a talented pass catcher for. But also just opens up the field. Allows more running lanes for Zeke Elliott. Helps set up play action better helps you know running lanes for for Dax. So I think he is not only a very viable streamer this week. But I think is a viable top twelve guy the rest of the year. I mentioned this point yesterday on the show that after next week by week no longer thing.
