"Now probably I i still think he's a top five player. and i mean obviously what the nationals do in this off season will determine. What is counting. That'll be around him They still have josh bell. I guess aside someone they're gonna they're going to bring in a couple of why i was somewhat right. This is a team that has never really rebuilt at least not in recent memories now but they have all these contracts expired. They got to do something. Yeah yeah but. I'm wondering like if this is one of the teams that just goes on a spending spree this season. There's a lot of free agents when they'd be better off doing that. They're like they don't even have a rotation. Yeah i mean they literally have so many i go back and they get i go back and get sherzer. I think they I think they are one of the one of the teams that are in on story or korea I think this is a team that signs like two or three like major free agents In the off season to see how the dumpster fire that the least ends they could certainly regroup and see their lot closer to jumping back in it than they originally thought even after breaking down so they could certainly do the math on that. Yeah and that's what i mean. That'd be my guess you know. Then you know like you go out and get carlos correa or Or trevor story You go out in. Get i i. Don't you know like go back and go get a sherzer and hopefully you have a healthy strasbourg and joe. Ross then your team's looking in a little bit better not to think not that i think. Either of those pitchers will be healthy next year but Least on paper they would be looking a lot better Let let's talk about a guy who on paper always looked really good but really struggled to get things going in. Tampa bay against traded over to the brewers in willia- has been Absolutely amazing Since coming over to milwaukee jason. Since he's the former former. Ray alette you kind of lead us off on this one. Where should we be taken. Willie adamas next season. So right now. He is the fourteenth shortstop by dachshund value in the season and that obviously has being weighed down by spending the first two months In tampa bay where he just was not doing anything And soon as he made the deal we talk about on this podcast just to say you know. Jump all in rhode willie as road. Willie is going to be awesome. And the fact that he gets the play all of his games away from tropicana now should be fantastic and young. He's out there doing the damage. I think if we were to give them a full season in in that ballpark in that division It can be fun. I mean the guys in front of him somehow hami baya's still in front of him Despite the he's got the whole money's got the steals are really pushing him on a bias. Korea krahn worth crawford anderson. Swanson taylor the problem with. Here's you look at a lot of these names through here. There's not gonna be a lot of movement down out of this group and it's like cronin board of anything this cemented his value there Again we talked earlier about. Baya's tim anderson's not going anywhere. Swanson's not going anywhere else. It may be you're like okay horry Lago this has been an awesome year. Nice be surgeons but whatever but there's not going to be a lot of movement in front of him so if you're taking willie. Adama says a top ten shortstop. You must really love willie adamas. 'cause you don't have to let me. He's fourteen right now He should absolutely be a top fifteen shortstop heading in the next year. I just don't know how he gets in the ten at the position. Just because of the depth shortstop position would you think matt were you taking it on us. I tried i. Tried rank them When when we got this list earlier actually. I have him not necessarily where i need to draft him. I have him as a twelfth shortstop which basically puts them just around where. Dan's be swanson and carl's career were going in drafts. This season Depending you know. I think outdoor bertone monte will be kind of written off by people's so i think andre cement has we'll have the helium he did markelle simeon will move up so like like a. He was saying that. The i don't think jason was saying that i don't think they'll be much movement. I kind of agree there. I do think he kind of butts up to That entire group though like right after there was like tommy admin de gregori so it doesn't take a lot to kind of move up so i but i do think he kinda groups up into that like you know starting shortstop like in a twelve team league. He obviously should be starting shortstop and a fifteen team league. I think but Yeah i think. I like kim is my. I like him as my shorts up. Twelve and That's me discounting a bounceback from gleyber torres. Which could be to my detriment. I actually would move him behind I'm not sure if. I would rather have heavier bias sometimes. I don't like the palette the really low batting average depending on the format. To if you can pout strikeouts. But i think you should be going kind of right right there So i think him. Swanson is like a perfect area. So i think i'd put him to wear those who were being drafted this year interesting. I understand that's not necessarily why. Why have to draft him. That's where i would rank. I fully on board with jason. Where i think he should be there. There's probably no reason for me to have to take them there though which is beautiful. So if i if i believe in you know i'll probably be able to get significantly later than that. And it's worth while. It's also worth adding when i talk about the depth shortstop position is because sending and turner and palumbo and taylor and kronenbourg Him have other positional eligibility including shortstop. So that could make some upward traction if those players are drafted at other positions like you could see krona worth being taken to somebody's second baseman But that's what's creating some depth their position. Some of these guys have are multi multi eligible And it's added some some length to the shortstop that yeah i think he's gonna probably go inside the top one hundred d my guess. I think i think it'd be your your that so I i've always been a big dumbest guy. He's always kind of been a guy targeted towards the end of dress. I don't know if i'm gonna pay much higher than top one hundred But if he's gone just inside the top one hundred or just outside the top one hundred. I think i'll be. I'll be drafted a fair amount of him Especially if. I'm okay with getting a second shortstop kind of that early in the draft so I i like adamas alive. I mean you know he. He talked about how much that batting. I in tampa bay bothered him And so you know. He's been just absolutely fantastic since coming over to to to milwaukee. So i don't see whether he can keep up pretty close to that level of brushing.

carlos correa Ray alette Willie adamas josh bell tampa bay hami baya crawford anderson Swanson taylor Baya horry Lago willie willie adamas jason bertone monte Swanson tim anderson tommy admin de gregori brewers tropicana

"He's he's already cut his twenty rebels already. Hit for the average so even if you try to bake some things out. It's still gets back to now. Maybe he gets taken right around Marcus semi-in Because again he's he has the The the the quantity out there so even if he does struggle if his average slides back in closer to seventy three oh nine that is right now he still gonna put up numbers just because of the volume as long as he stays healthy And there is value in that. As we've seen this for the guys that have been able to stay healthy and stay on the field. Production matters And so with him. I'm not gonna fault. Anybody for taking them in the top one hundred but yeah. There's been a lot of volatility in the outfield position this year. Some of it due to injury some of it just due to not be able to hold it up like hold up expectations so like example. Said there's mullins the fourth most valuable outfielder and then the of darling coming into the season right now arose arena is the twenty second most valuable outfielder gonna false somebody if they go out and take mullins in front of a rose arena Next year absolutely not. I can't fault them for doing that. Now are you holding the to step down. We got hundred renfro now. Top twenty five outfielder based on production Are if i if you take renfro in front of mullins. Am i gonna fault you. I'm absolutely going to fall for that. So it's a there are different things around there like that So that the position as itself has been extremely volatile this year. Because you know mookie. Betts is outside the top thirty in outfield but his body has failed him pal. Schreiber is barely hanging on top. Forty stanton who got outfielder eligibility which helps him because he's not utility only but if these are the types of names that are further down the chart but there's been a lot of risk of injury at the position this year so i could see mullah's making a significant jump but let's be really earned it and the fact that he can stay out there and play every day and still put up. These numbers on a really bad team speaks to his potential Where would you start considering taking embassy. Is he a first rounder. Second rounder third. Rounder fifth rounder. It's it's so hard to peg. Were a guy like mullins. You had like pretty much. No track record bussing on the scene having a season like this. So where would you start looking. I i like him. I think a little more than jason was saying What do you guys feel about. Randy rose marinas price this year for for just an example for it get started. Either of you like where he's going. Because this is maybe entrapment. Because i'm looking at a tgi fbi my league jason's in it and you took randi at fifty one. I like mullins more than randy last year. So i think i think i think mullins top twenty outfielder easily. I think i draft him in the top fifteen. I'd wait until starling as off the board but i like them right around the ranging navy top fifty volumes. I said i agree when you look at the volume of what he's capable of doing For him to artemis at his twenty twenties now for what two plus weeks. I mean he didn't need much of august to get that twenty twenty under his belt by the end of the he could be thirty thirty by the end of it and again again. It all comes back to a volume and the fact. He's gonna hit high in the lineup. Every year i mean it's we've mentioned widmaier field. I mean he's the second most valuable player by alfie because of what he's doing with steals this year i mean he's not hitting with the power and he's only fifty seven runs driven in but he's got sixty nine runs scored nice thirty seven steals in a league in when nobody else's running. That's how he's differentiating. Subsidies not hitting for a lot of average but he is out there every single day producing And that's where the mullins is doing. This mullins is out there everyday producing even if he's not driving in runs. He has forty two runs driven in. Because that's how bad the bottom of the baltimore lineup has been but he's doing everything else. He's doing it every single day and that has to you have to give credence to that. That type of thing. I don't care if you're on a bad team. If you're hitting high in the lineup playing every day you will get your numbers man. I reserve the right to change my mind once. I do my deep dive. I always do but Slight blinders on the fact that i already believed in mullins. I mean not as much as as as as our friend here but he was obviously someone who had opened my eyes to a more. But i have him on most of my teams this year. So i think it's a blind spot for expecting someone to break out when they do. You feel almost a personal commitment to them but he does have like a eighty seven point. Six z contacts. Fantastic only seven pointy swing strike rate. So there's a lotta things there to suggest that the plate discipline carryover allow him to continue to get on base And he's not a perfect player but Yeah i mean like you said the opportune everything. I like it a lot. I don't wanna have to overpay for him. But i actually do believe so. I don't think. I think it'd be a lot of people that are going to say that he's a bus next year at least at adp. Which i'm hoping we'll drive back his price so i won't even have to draft or more. I'm willing to which is the hope. Yeah i mean. I think i think he's gonna be kinda one of those guys especially in early drafts that are kind of all over the place I think are to some people wanting to take. Kim know right around where you guys were zantop. Fifty ish in some people are gonna try to push him up into the second round I think some people are going to be just completely fating him. I think i'm on board with the top fifty top forty five kind of end of the third around beginning the fourth round.

mullins Marcus semi renfro Forty stanton Randy rose mookie widmaier jason Schreiber Betts mullah Rounder randi starling fbi alfie randy navy baltimore Kim

"You're bored not actually not. I think this will give us a nice discount like last year. He pitched the cy young level but we knew that he's never seen them. Maybe that kind of work before. The dodgers always treated him with kid gloves and he threw a ton of slider so there were there worries but i was actually invested this year because i thought where he was going it was possibly worth it He has this. He has a reputation for being so injury. Prominent six years. He's only been on the i l. four times in hasn't even been lengthy for any of them. None of them have been arm injuries. Obviously this is an arm injury. So we're gonna want to know more information with how serious this is. Rocco daily said that it looks like it could be a lengthy thing. The twins have you know are not competing so he probably won't be back so Cheating answer is i need to know more and see how serious this is. Because i don't think he. I am still going to keep them on my board if this isn't too bad because i think some people in their mind have him of as just horribly. You know unhealthy pitcher were in reality. He's never actually had arm trouble before. So i just i need to know more but i think i'm not as worried as like maybe the ash person jason. What about your your you worried about this short term long term. i'm with matt. You gotta get some more data to see where things are they gonna shut them down for. The rest of the other reason did let him go out. This look at this. This has been the same thing. At least the mets are still trying to hold onto some playoff hopes with degrom and similar injury. That's now had out now. What six weeks. And we don't know and he may not pitch again. The season amis nine team has just died on the vine that was in first place. Losing kershaw and degrom is just. I'm so depressed but anyhow getting back to my you know when we look at it though. It's this'll be three times in five. Seasons year has been over four and said his high water mark for his workload was his rookie season here on the state side but since then one thirty four one twenty five hundred fifty. Four one six now This year And discounting last year. Even if you were to extrapolate what he could have done last year it would have been about one fifty five one sixty so once one fifty five hundred. Sixty is a new one eighty. The way baseball is played right now. But we're still talking about a guy who's got a era over four in three of the last five seasons with it and so he he's a number one on that team but in reality he has like a sp low s. p. three in my book and not somebody i want to even the news where it come out good on this not somebody that i want to go out there and be like always low. Sp to now. Do you think he'll drop to like like we're frankie. Montage issue is going this year. Do you think he'll go to that area the driver. That's where i'd be interested. But do you think that he his name. Do you think he'll still get pushed up higher than that. Assuming everything is like okay issues that you think you'll be you think you'll be drafted a lot earlier. Lower on thoughts coming into the season. People were still up there on him coming into the season even though he hit shown the volatility. It gets back to something. We'll talk about a little bit later. Where some people have a like the pitching ninja tax. Or you see video. Like oh my god. Look at the potential of this this pitch. This could be amazing right. F in a in a vacuum guys could look awesome but on a whole there are there are awards. There have to be over comment with montage. Splitter was incredible and it was spun. if you're on the front end of that montage train but you go back and look at some of the preseason data where he was going He was a top sixty pitcher. He went as high as one on one. Eighty p of one sixty four during draft season And you look at your try to look back at where some of the other names of the thing is the way kitchen is falling. Apart this year i'm scrolling down the list. Trying to look for guys you may have missed out on because you chase montas and quite frankly. He didn't miss out on much. I mean there's so many other these are he's he's out he's hurt he's done on the didn't so at the end of the day it was kind of like he was appropriately placed based on where he's being drafted only because so much behind them. Except maybe i tyler molly. That's one guy who has outperformed montage. But he was the next guy on the list. It's not like you missed out on much or that guy tiny epic you pronounce his last name. He went one round after after. Frankie mom i think that's the only reason i picked montage level the draft because right after the patrick corbin area where i figure it's one of these like where people take these name guys that had helium at some point and they'll bunch up together in the middle before people start taking sleepers and start taking shots on these guys that's kind of. Why identified that area. Well there's chris bassett Chris bassett's Thirty picks after that was a that was a miss. If you took the upside like vat you watch the two guys pitch like getting montage. He throws harder. He's got the great splitter. I'll take them all day long over bassett and that's why there was the basset hound group this year. As or like okay fine bulldogs take guys sitting down there. That's been pitching well since. August of two thousand nineteen and unfortunately until his last outing Has been really good. This year was like it was Wasn't like he wasn't good in his last outing. You just didn't get a chance to finish it. He's doing good in his recovery. I mean huge. Bummer for inefficiencies. In that way a mobile he can make it back at some point for the playoffs. But he's probably i. yeah. I'm with you guys on around with madame made. I think he's gonna come at a a a nice little discount coming into two thousand twenty two if he's going outside of that top one fifty one seventy five area I'll be getting lots lots of shares the guy. I don't think by any stretch that he is done. I mean obviously with wait for the. Va injury news to clearing. If he doesn't again this season That could make him extremely cheap coming into next season because people would see the bad performance but also have had been injured a this season so all right Let's let's move on to the next set of news upfront francisco lynn door and havi bias or returning from the i l. This is special for matt. is a mets fan. How excited you about these returning. What can we expect from wrestled away. And what are you thinking about for them in terms of their value for next season as far as rest of the way. I don't know. I mean. Linda were really started to kind of pick it up. But this you know this derailed all possible momentum and with him coming off an oblique and the mets by the time he comes back..

"Anymore. You're just playing games for Sacramento River Cats, right? So how many is he allowed to to make And what do the I wonder? Are the Giants looking at Aaron Sanchez like they looked at Drew Smyly like they looked at Drew Pomeranz. Get a guy back, maybe for a brief stint, get him a couple outings and try to package them. I don't even know if there's enough time for that. What do you make of this situation? How they're handling this? It's a tough one right now with Aaron Sanchez because I don't know that his stuff is major league ready and like you said seventh rehab appearance scheduled Thursday night in Tacoma for the Sacramento River Cats, and the reason he is able to do seven is because he did the first one but felt a blister issue and that slowed him up so He was able to pause the rehab assignment and restarted and that means you get a fresh 20 days when you restart, so he started this one July 10th, which means the Giants have to make a call on Aaron Sanchez unless he gets hurt again before the July 30th trade deadline, So I really don't know what they're gonna do here, Cope said. Do you bring him back to you sliding in the rotation? Would he even be willing to come in and be a bullpen guy for you, even though he signed as a starter with the intent of solely starting in San Francisco? I think this is one of the bigger questions that the judge is gonna have to deal with it right now under the radar question because he's disappeared. He's been in Sacramento for so long that so many fans have forgotten that Aaron Sanchez was supposed to be a big part of this giant rotation. All right time to get into the sound survey, and just we'll update here and Sanchez situation As more information becomes available. Let's start with little giant sound. This one comes after Tyler Rogers gives up the Will. He walks the leadoff guy, Then he wants the next guy nine pitches to walks on on Tuesday night before Will Smith comes up and hits a walk off home run. By the way, How crazy was it? You have this note? Last time the Giants have lost to the Dodgers on a walk off home run in which they were trailing. Happened in like 1953 or something like that, Uh, which is with Roy Campanella doing it? You also had a note that they lost on a walk off home. Run the last time at Dodger Stadium. 1994 was that correct? 1994 was the last time they hit four home runs in a game and lost out was the note. That was only other time. Yeah, that was the no crazy crazy stuff. By the way, I looked at that box score. Todd Benzinger. Two home runs off Oral Hershiser in that game, Barry Bonds at one and Matt Williams.

"It's hard to compare athletes or teams of different generations. Right we hear that argument a lot in sports. But i think it's hard to compare trainers of different generations because the game itself the economics were different. Everything was different in the approach back. Then as opposed to what is now is that right. Yeah definitely. I think so. You know. I guess you know evolutionary changing in the breed you know with ours- selective breeding and training methods and all of that. Yeah things have definitely changed. Yeah yeah i believe that. They they probably have. Do you think the horse has changed matt from from years ago. I always hear people saying you know they're. They're not sound or whatnot before you know for me. It's kinda hard to say you know i. I'd say it's really hard to say. You know 'cause sometimes you see some really good horses around. You know like america quran justifying how well they run. You know so. I think it's really difficult to say. They changed in any butter. Good way where you know for sure. They've changed you know times. Change everything changes. Yeah yeah so. We spent a lot of time. Talking about your big philly dream marie. But you've had other horses that you have done pretty well with two taught me about some of the other horses that have come through your bar in the past few years that you're always going to remember well. I'm probably skyline view that that was my very first tourist. I was the first source. I bought And i agree on twenty six times a year on a couple of seconds and thirds but he never broke and We retired him earlier this year. So he's actually wrote him the other day on the little time there. So he's out there with a shetland forty and They're kinda inseperable now Also did pretty well without horse Are you talking to me. We want. I can go on three races tim. He cleaned him Hiding for a while. They claimed him from this are so he put you up for us to yoga. Hard knocking are trying horse. I saw you could've been like you know maybe a claiming crown ironhorse typo horse last year in the mid april may june. Things didn't go that way for him to give him breaks on what. I have another horse but i really like. His name is emperor. 'cause i he still amid nothing join like eight times. E the first time he ran by late closing half flint so I you know. I really thought i before you even run as a two year old training. I thought he was the best horse. I've ever trained you know And he's still made what he's been running some good races. Just gelded him. The for iran. First time bucks into being gelded. He lost by two knows it. So i was pretty happy with that effort Hopefully he wins soon and he was How length behind charlotte's brother earlier this year ago stream. So you know. I've always thought he's a good horse but we just haven't. Yeah yeah fantastic. You get a horse like that that you know you think can really run it. it perks. yup it makes you want to to the bar in every morning but it doesn't sound like you have a problem with that matt. Yeah well you know. I i i i do miss my sleep. Sometimes you know butt out so you have to be a morning person if you're going to be a horse trainer and that's certainly what my special guest matt williams is he's gotten out there and done it and and is making a name for himself Here in the united states since coming here a few years back from jamaica e- ever gotten a chance to talk to. You mentioned the horse. Are you talking to me. you ever get a chance to talk to saffy. Joseph junior about his triple crown winner that he had in barbados. yea he had the same name right Any name same about dot. Horace outspoken cleremont number of occasions. I never actually spoken to him about that. Yeah you know that's a again. I become very good friends with saffy and his family and A minute you said. Are you talking to me. I said wait a minute. That's the same name as saffi's triple crown winner the same name. I think it's slightly different spelling. It is yeah. I think he was a r e in the letter. You talking to me. is how his triple crown winner spelled. Yeah yeah you're one hundred percent right Talking trainer matt williams here on trainer talk presented by phasing tip in matt. We are inside the final furlong now. Just the inside of five minutes left here on the program. Been wonderful to hear your story. I always like to end the show by asking trainers to tell me a little something about themselves that we have not talked about yet and people might not know. So what else should people know about matt williams other other interests other hobbies other sports that you enjoy following what what else makes you tick man. Well you know. I always a big sucker signed Used to play soccer in high school as well but in the past two years i've been just so consumed with horseracing on all the goings on you know Also play cricket. I thought if i was ever to play professional sports it'd be crooked because my dad played. I'm on my uncles played. You know. I thought i had some kind of ability there but never actually paid ten real professional level or anything like that. I have only watched cricket on television. And i grew up. I played baseball through college. And i'm thinking man that looks like you think. Baseball is tough to hit. That looks like it could be tough to hit the what are they as a cricket ball and may even saying it correctly. Yeah yeah it'll be a cricket by a cricket back yeah. Are there similarities. Do you see the good baseball players that can play cricket and vice versa Well i can't really think of any you know but it's it's somewhat similan somewhat different technique rise. You know baseball your jolly starting with the bottle behind your back. Cricket you're starting with Below your hip type thing done. It's a different shape but the ball bonds before generally in crickets so yeah. It's slightly different somewhat. Similar hard to find a good pick up. Cricket game in south. Florida.

"I think korean shackle end up being too wild wicker. Linda being too boring so like a the three little bears. I'm selling class say well. I think it'd be a nice mixture of the two. But yeah i think they should be rostered and this will probably be a headache for the foreseeable future. Okay so i got asked the question. Because you said you don't like to roster crappy relievers right yes so is this bias because to me. It seems like it's either whitman. Or there is no guy like it's you know it's one of the two situations in as much as i like claws and i do think long term and maybe even now he's the best reliever of the three. The indians are very money conscious. And they wanna give the the young kid arbitration negotiating power later on. I mean they just traded their face of their franchise for i like andres jimenez anti like ahmad. Rosario put a bag of balls to your matt. So like i to me. It's like if the organization is involved. I don't think close a really has a chance honestly at this point. I don't think anybody on this team gets the twice as What i think that with grin likely leads the trio the to your first point about not rostering bad pitchers i don't have any current shares in in real leagues. I've took him like mock draft. That's about it. So i i'm not willing to take on the risk there but i'd put them in a different category due to his electric ability to strike people out so i think you can. I guess there's a diagonal where you can be this crappy if you strike out this many hitters in in a more often than not something he he'll get you there but yeah it's a risk i'm not willing to take wiccans. The only one actually do have a class a actually went undrafted in quite a few of my league. Scoop them up in fabric palooza i. It's just. I would just say that. That's who i would bet on leading the team in saves like you said. I don't think anyone gets twenty. And i think i think it'll be pretty even group if i bet on one of them actually taking the job i would say it would be wiccan. I think would be the one. I'd be the most interested in keeping But i mean it's a thin margin checks the only one. I don't actually have interested if you're in. Let's say a ten team league. Are you rostering. Any of these guys. Know oak and and i i might roster went grim but i don't think i don't think he needs to be necessarily owned someone asked me a question appointees someone asked me. This question on. Twitter was interesting using a might have been a ten team league. I think he had weather and romano and he really wanted to get current. Jack and i was just trying to tell him. If you drop one of the blue jays guys in you're wrong you could end up with nothing or you can end up. Double winner I don. I didn't like a whole time so i just said. Do you have anyone else to drop. You can try to do those three. Maybe trade a guy. I went through a lot of scenarios with them but overall i said For now i think. I just hold onto the blue jays. If if that's what you wanna do. I'd rather have both blue jays guys than drop one of them for current check. So that's i guess insights how i'm thinking. Yeah i completely agree. I would rather wrap up. Blue jays saves then like you said end up with nothing Let's say he dropped ramono And in picked up well cringe getting he saves and then at some point they go. Oh no romano's the guy in toronto now you got nothing and so no. I would much rather just wrap up. Jj saves than play the guessing game. A is it chat. 'cause i honestly don't think I think check is going to be a valuable reliever especially deep performance. But for the most part. If you're making a decision whether to drop a romano you're not playing in a deeper format. You're playing in a shallower one and at that point. Just wrap up. The blue jays incurring check when i mentioned the his risk is worth the rewarded strikeouts. Only these getting saves if you just want a good ratio guy who strikes people out. There's plenty of guys not getting saves. That are going to be superior option of grinchey completely agree are. Let's let's move on and talk about guys who are often slow starts and if we're doing anything with them what we're doing with them And i think we start with guesting era only because our good buddy mike kirwin and i have a vet from the start before the start of the season on Who have who would be better. This year. kettle morte. Just justin hero. The loser has to wear the justin mason swimsuit on a livestream I have guessed in europe. He has started out. Oh nineteen with ten strikeouts. He has marseille who is now herds. could kettle march be out for the year. And you still lose this. Theoretically radically Theoretically i could Because he is not looked good at all. He is swinging wildly Like i i wasn't even a cast here. A guy who was more a matter of trust the health of marseille or Necessary by that he was going to tap back into the power that we saw in twenty nineteen But i thought you know while here is not necessarily good baseball player or good hitter. He was gonna hit some home runs and steal bases and it at least finish higher than Marta but over nineteen..

mike kirwin toronto Twitter Jack twenty andres jimenez justin mason europe nineteen Marta Linda twice two two situations ten strikeouts three Double first point This year kettle morte

"There was no talk about in dealing with anything other than i think. They're like yeah like a calf issue early. Spring training came back pitching fine. Everybody was drafting him. As a top ten closer and then on opening day he gets placed on the i l. with a shoulder issue. Okay you know. This is disappointing. But hopefully he'll be back here on the next month or so and then the last couple of days. The outlet is bit used on a rask outlets specialists Now they're talking that he may need surgery that would least put him out for three to four months of. But i mean this is ruined guys careers. Right this is what ruined matt. Harvey's career This is what derailed outs. Cobb's career in. Cobb is one of the few examples of someone who's been able to come back and be somewhat effective. I mean obviously not stitcher. He was early in his career but i think the question becomes. Do you draw. Trevor rosenthal. Because i am tgif with a bunch of other injuries including sprayer. I'm dropping in this weekend unless we get some sort of news as that he's going to i don't know if i don't know if there's news that would prevent me from dropping him at this one yet. The only news would be doctor would come out and say that. He was paid off to say needed the recipe outlet syndrome when he's actually fine if that happens Than then like the crop report in trading places like something like drew devastating than. Yeah sure other than that. Yeah it's this is a career ending surgery for thirty year old reliever probably that's too bad So coming back this year. Not there's no way he's gonna come back and be an effective closer so it's time it's time to move on. Unfortunately i'm yeah i agree i. It's a huge bomber. I know job. The morning of opening day dropped a my bold predictions article. Where i said. Trevor rosenthal lead. The american league in saves So that ended really poorly and very quickly Very much in the same fashion. That years ago i predicted that garrett richards would win the cy young and then he got tommy john months into this So my luck of boll stopped doing bold prediction articles. I did love the. I did like the april first bold predictions i was. Yes yes i. I've read is the earlier that day. I dropped deepfake one. Which i the most unbolt predictions but also gave analysis to why Like mike trout would like hit above two hundred. You know stuff like that. But in oakland do we think diekman is the guy here for the same reason for more straw. I feel strongly more strongly about it but for the same reason in i think diekman would be the front runner simply because he's did it before. He's the lefty but they have a couple of left these independent. I think wendell. Ken could certainly sneak in their sergio. Romo will probably get the occasional one and I guess also similar to how. I brought up the wild card in arizona. Aj puck obviously is not going to be a rotate in the rotation long-term. They haven't been the bullpen right now. I would love for them to simple. Simplify things up for that guy. He could be a dominant Reliever but again nothing to count on. Jake diekman i think is the guy to roster. If you're in a deep format in your desperate. I think wendell cynwyd second choice. I know a lot of a lot of guys on romo. But i don't i don't like i can't i don't like rostering bad relievers. I can't do it even if it's for saves it's just not my style so i mean i'll i'll pass on romo even though i think he's probably the likely second choice but i think deepens easily out front. Yeah i think the team is already said that diekmann's gonna lead them in saves for them as the closer for right now. I think wendo kin and romo will get some sneak stuff but right now i have no reason not to believe the team unless diekman deacons first outing wasn't great Or i think it was. The second outing wasn't great but whatever it it's one of your really sad that the team like the as go go out there and they make the move like it's not a ton of money but for them it is in the you know they get they get a guy to really put them over the top in terms of what kind of moves they're going to make It's just it's just too bad i. There's a lot of as a lotta as fans out in the industry. I feel bad for. I feel bad for do. I don't understand why they made this move and the money towards rosenthal instead of just putting it towards simeon. Yes well yeah. We'll walk there too busy. Low balling him in passing himself. Yeah i mean you're going to put the money towards just one player like i just do it towards the player that is you know. Been part of your franchise and in really good and you were getting a discount anyways. Just don't offer it to him in one million dollar installments. Yes it was. That was ten years for million for ten years or something. I think it. I think it was like twelve million over like eight years for a one year contract like yeah i mean. Come on like you know. You've got a billionaire owner like really. That's that's what you've got that. That's like the whole the fact that they act as if they don't have money is insane. Oh i don't feel bad for the. I don't forget team. I feel bad for the fans. I mean the the guy on the mound for the mets today looks pretty good time on walker. Spent money on a guy like that. You know their injuries they have in the rotation. You know you're gonna need a guy so they they definitely i mean if they just made a couple more moves. They're already contender. they could. They could afford but yeah. We don't have to go down this road. Eight anybody out. James paxton is at the iowa forearm strain. He was looking really really good in spring. Looks really really good in the start that he got injured in and then all of a sudden he's removed from the game forum issue. He has said that. The forearm issue was worse last year than than it is right now But at this point there's no reason to believe that this is not going to end extremely poorly to anyone. That's trying to convince themselves yet. You roster james paxton. You're like it's gonna be okay. He says it's fine. It's going to be fine. He's gonna come back. He's gonna be great. He james paxton remember who it is. A seems packs has a current form injury. is there a need and then look at the waiver. Wire you're telling me there's no one on your waiver. Wire the you think will end up as a net positive over james paxton who currently has a form injury If you know if if if you're serious about the answer you'll know you just gotta move on if it's even if he comes back..

"Yeah it plus not only do you have to worry about him not going the length. It's just is he going to be right Because he said he has a lot to worry about on top getting the rust off if he were completely healthy. So it's Yeah that's a lot to deal with. So yeah most scenarios. I would say i'm with you. I'm probably going to be moving on arm Speaking of which george springer He worked his way back from the oblique injury. We were hoping that he was going to be back fairly quickly. he interest is. What in In the rehab and now it seems like he's going to be out for longer. I mean i think this is clearly spot where you're kind of just stuck right. You mean you're not able to cut him. Necessarily you have to just hold him on your or even an nfc leagues where he is a. Where were you have. No i l spots. But i mean how worried springer you right now what's not to love like a second third round pick with two soft tissue injuries e you can't do anything you can't you gotta wait it out and see how it goes. I can't i. I can't imagine a scenario where i drop him right now. I mean they can always drop like a bomb on us. No i mean you gotta keep them and there was. There was no planning forty. They look like they plan on him being ready for the home opener like he was it's not like he was still nursing his other injuries. The oblique and he was still away. He was back so this. It's hard to tell but yeah there's nothing you can do with him but weeded out. Yeah yeah. I don't think there's anything actionable here so But i. I can't tell you how stoked i was to get him in the fourth round of my tgi league And now i'm just like. Oh my god i so many injury. I had the bat ex. I think they had him is like a top ten hitter by get your overall. So yeah. he's he's in it. He can be an absolute. We see how well the blue jays lineup is doing without him. So that could be a good thing at least you. If you're a springer a shareholder you want them to take their time with the soft tissue injuries so at least there's no reason to push him out a one thing i'll say if there's anyone listening shall leagues because i do articles at nbc. They have a partnership with yahoo. I noticed that They're outfielder the the guy is taking his place. Right now agreed agreed check. He still available sixty percent of their leaks. If available absolutely him. I picked him up in the first round of bad in out. Oh yeah yeah. Absolutely he should he absolutely must be only. He's in there. It's not like rowdy to less where he gets in there. Three out of the five days of the h creed sex in there every day. He's hitting well. He's sitting for bauer hidden. Well i mean it's Yeah he he's a must own right now thinking i if you're if you're if he's available on your waiver wire go Go pick them up right now. So good call Arab judges dealing with minor soreness in his side or a. I think they said I can't remember the exact quote but it's soreness in his side. They're not worried. That's as the day off today. I i'm always worried when aaron judge is dealing with something And a surprisingly. I found out today. Do have him on team. Apparently this year are even though. I can't imagine that i actually drafted him but I i was out on judge especially at the price because he was going really really high when second round of one of my leagues Towards the end of draft season really stoked on him And i mean. I love the talent on a per play parents basis. Obviously but i just worry about is situation in injury proneness of are you worried about aaron judge now. Has anyone ever stop mean. I guess there's people out there that aren't but yeah. I'm always worried about aaron judge. Minor soreness should be as new nickname They see this announcement over the loudspeakers. And there's nothing minor about anything with judge because remember like he came last season in the spring training one point with that injury that he sustained at the end of the year and it was nothing and all the sudden he was out for all spring training into the regular season. there's minor Especially we already know ab leaks which i assume side soreness means oblique. I don't i wouldn't want to. I would assume. Yeah so yeah. I'm very very worried if they haven't announced. They said that they don't know if he'll be in this weekend or not. If you if. I didn't have news going into any kind of like a friday lineup swap. I would be pulling him Butts yeah you just gotta follow the news for but yeah i am worried but this money can do again nothing. You can do but wait if you do happen to have shares yet Aaron boone the manager of the yankees Called it general soreness in his left side I don't like that but I mean hopefully he is okay and we able to get back into the lineup but If you if you have daily pick ups make sure you've got a someone to to play for him because it sounds like he could miss the weekend all right And obviously even if he goes out. You're not dropping it right so His you've you spent way too much draft aalyah Trevor rosenthal think. You'd think if you drafted aaron judge You'd be prepared right like you would have drafted a superior bench option. Maybe before filling out the rest of your pitchers in anticipation of him. Being out. if not that. That's kinda on you. So e kinda should have this covered to a degree so hopefully you are everybody. I i completely agree but he you know if you look at the tally of the nfc drafts. That includes all of their formats. You went as high as twenty one. He went his is thirty. One in the main events like people to people took him very highly as. Add in the main event was fifty four So trevor. Rosenthal may need drastic outlive Surgery this is. This came out of nowhere. I mean he was..

yahoo Aaron boone sixty percent thirty Rosenthal george springer fourth round today this year second round One first round aalyah Trevor rosenthal twenty one forty Three five days fifty four nbc springer

"Welcome to episode nine thirteen of the sleeper on the bus. I just in mason without pulse for today a all got the vaccine and we're happy for him that he is going to be healthy but today he is feeling pretty sick from the after effects of that so i had to bring in a guest. I bring a ringer. I to bring in someone who could equal paul's level of talent clearly as much better looking and funnier and that is matt williams wrote a fanatic. How you doing. i'm doing. I'm doing pretty good. I'm happy to to pinch. Hit here for the the amazing pulse. Poor feel better buddy. I mean some some some people can avoid the side effects. Some can so gift get better soon. He he was he got it a couple of days ago and yesterday i was like a yoga and he was like a up my arm sore but i'm fine and then today i'm not fine. I reminds me of when you cut it. You tell your well member. I got it. And i responded to you. I feel fine and like eight hours later. I'm like i don't feel fine. Yeah seem so. Yeah if anybody's going to be getting the vaccine a just plan for maybe a couple of days off after or get it scheduled for friday's the weekend off But we're going to roll on without him. We had a ton of news to kind of cover a. We'll go through the news quickly. And then i wanted to talk to you about some players. Who hadn't some slow starts to start the season and whether or not worried whether or not we're going to do anything actionable with kind of they're slow. Starts a bullet start with kennel. Morte he pulled up lame Running out a ground ball first Seem to be an a lot of pain. It looked really like it could be a pulled hamstring or a torn hamstring. Early reports are that it's a cramp which seems doesn't seem to line up with what it looked like the lease right. So what do you think about this matt. You cover a lot of news Over there at the a world. Oh sorry. Not a nbc. Sports edge site so What what what is your take on this. Are you worried about kettle table. I mean i am glad to hear that they think it might be a cramp like if you watch the video you went down like i mean not went down. It went it. Looked like he was shot. And that's usually a hamstring. The way he limped down and then he went down to the grass and was off the field by trainer. So yeah i have a lot of shares of of martin so he added amazing. Spring was off to like a crazy start so far this season. So i mean even if he's out for a month that would be pretty catastrophic second basis such a shell position this year. It's unlikely you have a anywhere near a reasonable backup. Probably you'll just deplete. Maybe you're middle infield spot if you're lucky but yeah i'll be optimistic about the cramping that assure didn't look like it like you said from. The video looked worse than it is. Just hopefully they take their time with. I'm willing to just take l. for a week. If that means it's something minor just don't just don't rush him back because these things like the oblique like this kind of stuff can just You come back to early all sudden boom. You're like you know you pull josh donaldson. Yeah i'm. I'm i was actually texting with paul and jason in e-e-e-e-no yesterday prior to this happening And we were talking about. Just how good he's looked and i was like i'm ready to take the l on is said. I think i think. I'm gonna have to take the l on being out on kennel marseille coming into the season. Because he's looking like the guy he was prior to twenty twenty and then this happened. And so like i'm not gonna sit here like victory lap over an injury And i hope he is. I hope he's okay because he's a fun player to watch when he's good. He's lucky it's one of my favorite players in the league So open that. He's okay We'll get more news. Hopefully you know over the next day or to kind of keep attuned to that. I did forget to remind you to let everybody know where you grew social media and then plug everything you do so go ahead and do that route quit. Yeah like a well-known commodities over. It's like who is this. Disembodied voice who listening to my name is matt williams. I'm not the former player slash poor manager or the creator of home improvement. There's a lot of matt williams out there. I work at over at nbc. Sports as you can find me on. Twitter at at matt williams. Mit twa seven seven. I m s In almost row fanatic. I the circling the basis. Podcasts over nbc. Sports edge. in turn to podcasts. You are in a ton of work. I love what you do If you're not falling that on twitter go follow him right now. He does player breakdowns. They're absolutely amazing. We're talking like it. Feels like a forty tweets threat. I know it's not quite forty but a you go into a lot of debts. It's teaches me a lot about things. That maybe i'm missing on player so i always really appreciate it That you do that and do it for free publicly out there then you do a lot of great works so please please go follow matt ghaffari. Guffaw matt everywhere. Go do it yet everywhere. Now pause the podcast dove not lake. You know where i live. That's crossing the line. Yeah no no. Yeah definitely detrimental. Don't follow him home from work. Our next piece of news is areas of diamondbacks. Is well christopher dickey. Who had got to save. I talked about on the last episode. Having picked him up In a number of leagues because he looked like he might be the guy with walking soria on injured. He has a weird out it It doesn't look good and then directly after the game. He's placed on the restricted list The diamondbacks said that this for personal reasons. It is not illness related. it is not injury. related We don't have any other information about that as of this recording time which is eleven a. m. thursday morning on the west coast Setsu pm eastern But what are you doing with christopher dickey right. Now i mean people just blew some fab on him to pick him up And now they're like a what we do here. Here's an embarrassing thing. I'm going to admit. But i'm going to admit it because i want to be completely transparent. The the minute. I found out chris evans. He was on the diamondbacks was when he came in for. I forget because mean i take. I take notice of all the players. I mean a lot of deep like draft champions traffic hold type leagues. But of all the people that i made a room for the diamondbacks bullpen. Who could work into their future plans. He was not one of them. I pissed a lot of innings over his career. I mean he's like you said he didn't look good his fastball and exchange of down five miles per hour. But i mean here. I am thinking. Kevin kinkel's steph crooked. Gb perkowski different guys. That could win in there. And i never bet on him so Yeah i i guess. Fortunately i don't have any shares of him. But i have no idea. I was worried he was injured with. I mean it's one thing to have your velocity down a ticker to during april. It's cold weather. People are ramping up especially relievers about five miles per hours problem. But like you said it's the restricted list. Not the i nothing. Nothing weird so yeah. I don't know what you do. I mean if you have and you absolutely need a closer you just hold on for now. 'cause he seem like the preferred guy But you know. I don't know how long you can wait for that in the hopefully there should be an update today. I can't imagine there won't be they promise. Yesterday they'd be an update after the game but there was not yeah. I looked before he started recording. I have not seen anything yet. So this is a weird situation because typically if you're having a baby you go into the paternity lists and we were talking about this before as we'll maybe it's a dozen family but a believe. There's actually a brief list and so this being placed on the restricted list typically means players decided to walk away from the game. So i don't know what that means hopefully before fab runs this weekend. We'll have more information. Maybe he's the for babies. The first pine tar guy. That's why is the his stuff was off. Maybe they're taken out for pine tar. I have no idea who do you think is next man up. You think it has ginkel. Do you think it's crichton. Taylor clark young lopez like i i don't i it's make this bullpen. If i had to put my money. I'd say krykun right. Because he had the experience last year. I think the best pitcher to take over his kevin ginkel at least on the staff. I think jay gu because kaz takes this at some point. But i assumed.

"Bucks Arjun and so new with this being your first appointment. I mean it's it's nothing short of amazing to be honest with you. I mean I was I think. All of Nineteen years old when I pinned on five and I probably didn't have maturity really until I became about twenty four twenty five years old relatively young and I mean now being a master sergeant you get a chance to see some of these young guys that are five and you look at it and go my God. That was that was me. You know. That's definitely strange. I mean I think you know it has to do with life experience and I mean the way I was raised. Honesty you know had a lot to do with it. You Know My Dad. Tanto steady young age for sure You know his work ethic and loyalty and all that stuff in and all that kind of comes to play I think subconsciously. And it's you know that day you know anybody. There have been a firefight with with really. Anybody doesn't matter who they are. They're brother that point and it's really a no brainer that you're GONNA do whatever is to make sure that everybody's safe in can can get out of harms way You know it's not something that you even really think about. It should APPS. Think about. It's it's it's second nature and it's kind of you know it's what you signed to do. Really Yeah what are some of the things that you've now started passing on to some of the young guys you know to some of those five thousand six hundred now coming in as eighteen x rays. You're the biggest thing was actually just left. Hendra my team couple weeks ago so I'm not a team anymore. But it's kind of it's pretty good vulner- no doubt but now it's one of the biggest ones. I've tried to do in some learned to from from Scott I guess in offered in our community You always remember your first team sergeant for sure whether he's a good owner battling Luckily ad I had a really good one Scott was an awesome start in in a great mentor. allows stuff. I learned from him. Was basically you know you put put the onus on the guys put trust in the guys and? I tried really hard early when I took my team Copiers goes I I was out in Nbc and I been with them for about a month We did a back together Which is worse than serving conduct course based like so you can be marksmanship and stuff like that. I did that with them. And then we went out there and actually a few. My seniors weren't able to make the trip which actually worked out well because I told them. Look look here's the deal. Is this kind of our I. I kind of thing PMT. But I still wasn't that concerned about it and I said I'm GonNa let you guys do your job like I'm not gonNa tell you what to do. I'M NOT GONNA get into Your Business Micromanage U You know here's the mission. Here's the intent. This is our situation in so execute basically and put the onus on them You know to be professional. We'd like to extend ourselves you know in Isas forces quite festivals and I think the professional word gets thrown around a lot but doesn't really get executed as well sometimes and that's one thing I learned early was if you want somebody it'd be professional cheating like professional and give them that opportunity to be a professional and in most guys will You know you always have those a couple guys for whatever reason while step up to the plate but they weren't really going to happen anyway Guys that join. Our community joined the special operations being in general. Most of them understand what they're being asked to do and have the inherent professionalism immaturity handle it just letting them do it It's it's Kinda hard. It's easy to get sucked in as a team sergeant to micromanage. Could you want everything to be perfect? But I just kind of found that I. I don't like being micromanaged so by no means I wanna be a mike manager and that kind of found that brought US brother team allows success. Actually in it let guys be a little bit more. Inventive dig outside the box and solve their own problems. And that's exactly. I learned that early on into something that is trying to still imply Impart on the young guys today. A sister talk a little bit about leadership. I I'd like to ask you how that event in which you are awarded the medal kind of shaped your decision making maybe from a planning perspective as you as you were looking to to plan operations yourself as a teams order true planning executive of course You know it's easy to hindsight's always twenty twenty always know when something extraordinarily bad happened. There's always a better way to do it. You know the next day and all that stuff you know the biggest thing with planning is is really keeping it simple. Honestly as some of the best thing I've I've learned a kind of still think about today's we start getting in the weeds and coming up with ridiculous ways. Do the simple things that you've done a thousand times because you want to be new as we really ran problems So you know the you're taught from an early on No specifically army whether you go to school leadership schools the course whatever your todd the basics and the pencils patrolling and all those things all the battle drills and all of those things we're designing written to be allies in combat in those things are all successful in combat if you employees to put them in the right at the right time so and that's the biggest thing that I just keep it simple in you know. Do the things you're trying to do well and you'll be successful. You were speaking of that. Mtc even on the conventional conventional army on that side. I remember as platoon leader. We had one of those one. It's time to go to an. Tc They want to take you to make sure everybody goes and some guys that wanted to go to ranger school and they're also NCO. Yes goals really made. That pointed pushed it up higher that these guys need to go get professional developed to and at the same time these younger guys. Can you know that next man up can learn because a big army side of that? It was really hit. Dc is a systems is what you get really evaluated on your system that the brigade and battalion level giving tactics at this at the company platoon level. But you know what better place to go train to know? This is what I've got alert kind of get a self assessment. So that was yeah absolutely really made. Our platoon was a very cohesive tune after that deployment. Yeah Yeah I I think you know. I think a lot of times. He will overlook the value in in those kinds of things. It's really to know failed. Train Answer CISE Your opportunity to put put the young guy in charge and let them let them see it. We'll see what happens. You know easy accessible. Or He's GonNa or is GonNa talk shit the bed but he weighs and learn it and that's the time the place to do that kind of stuff you know. Nbc's reciprocally For us we do like more unconventional warfare. We did exercise out there. So it's a little more tailored to us At the time but still it's not easy for the young guys to get out there and do the things that you know. They've been taught to do and actually put into practice. And no one's GonNa die from it. Think there's going to be a lot of young guys that either haven't joined the military or maybe in your exact same situation that are in a unit either the conventional army or within special operations. It's going to hear this and and it's more about. I think the lessons that you took away in which you're now sharing is a leader. That's most important that I took away from this whole thing because Focus on the moment. Focus on the needs at hand. Take care of your people and don't sweat the big stuff you know. And that that's huge. Yeah no one hundred sons Ivan. Nothing's that big of a problem You know and stop dwelling on your look at look at the situation and and solve it you know. We don't need to worry about why this happened. Inner who's doing what and all this nonsense. It's got a problem than fix it because it's not getting any better if you don't yeah I'd love to have had you as a team started nourian. Nco BECKON THE LAKERS. Mostly most of the guys. They didn't think the way you're thinking you know they. They were very different for sure. I learned. I probably learned how to be a better leader because of the failures of the leaders that I had along the way I had a few good ones but the The failures taught me a hell of a lot more. I know I mean I tell you. That's hundred percent. That's something else I tell. People is look every leader. Or you know everybody you interact with specifically in leadership S I'm the teacher whether it's you know. Some of them are good. Some are bad but even the bad ones have some the teacher. And it's those lessons are sometimes more important takeaway than all the good ones honestly. Is He actually that you take from that right if you get mistreated and decide out? This isn't for me and you end up just checking out. But that's not the right approach so it's all in how you handle those situations so now autumn sent. Yeah sounds like you've handled quite well and you've learned from them. It's always good that you also have a good mentor in the very beginning so Scott was a good guy. It sounds like they're really touchy guys. Well and obviously it's left lasting impression. Sounds like you know that's the same kind of legacy same types of things that you're trying to do today absolutely. Yeah Yeah we definitely got lucky. Yeah Matt wish nothing but the best and again thank you for coming on the show now absolutely. I really appreciate taking the time and want to wonder very talkative. Matt thanks guys..

"It kept getting pushed right as as it does So we basically know. Finally everything lined up loaded up on the Chinooks flew in. They came to the valley. We were going to land and we knew we were going to end the Dalai and have to kind of get up this mountain side to the actual village that was on top of the mountain We knew that going in. And for whatever you know tall the planks that rations and all that take into account it was just the way it had to be basically for that situation but helicopters came to a hover And I remember I was one of the first guys off and I looked we got to the RAM and look down. We were like ten feet off. The ground still looked at the crew chief and I was Kinda like Kinda game. You Shrug like a you know you're gonNA like lower this thing or what. He looked like you guys go so it was like Oh shit So he kind of ended up bailing off the back of the chinooks rocky boulders and stuff kind of river. Drive the drive riverbottom. Anybody get hurt coming out. I mean not not bad enough. Yeah you know. I don't know if anybody landed on their feet. But you know it's one of those deals so did that finally got everybody off and organized and back into our our elements and I was actually the with. The trail is a myself. Teams are the medic. Rancher was also were the medal for the same same day You know our commandos guys never Rails pushing forward and basically by the time he got into the the valley we were kind of surround on both sides by nouns at our lead element was almost to the mouth of the village is basically when everything kind of kicked off so they were about to the top in a gunfight. We were down in the bottom Taking fire from from the hill over the mountain sees me but you know the acoustics of it was Was KINDA worse part. Because it seemed like it was literally coming from both sides for a while. We thought we were literally shot. Bill sides Which you know made it worse. 'cause we had you know. Pricilla fifty sixty guys in the river bottom itself and then everybody else halfway up the mountain about that. After that happened we basically got got. The radio calls that we had two guys wounded. So teams aren't Scott. He Howard Ron the medic knows. Okay we gotta get up. This got this hill Get these guys so I actually heard Scott. Are you wanting to come? I had the heavy weapons Scott Day. Sounds like I'll bring my with you. He's like yeah. Let'S GO SOO ran. Cross cross the river and made our way up and found the first two guys wounded. They were kind of all pinned down with the C. Two element so it was a cap then the CC T- To calm is conduct. Amagai all kinds of pinned down on this little time. Kerak outcropping on the on the terrorist part of the mountain That you guys are wounded is actually an Intel Intel guys. An accom- guy both been shot in the in the legs. So the Dylan had been shot in the head of the hit for moral or head of the steamer right in the hip area. Then Lewis was actually shot trying to help him His ankle in the leg and stuff like that. So Ron again like I said it'd be not only medic out there start. Treating those guys are combat. Command quickly jumped into help. His camera been shot already so he was. He was a soldier again. pretty quick You know then we basically we're GONNA do really consolidate at that point and get these guys down the hill the best that we could and then basically trying to continue mission Santa at that point with cows. He's you know it's a bad deal. But you know it's not a deal breaker yet and we were better off getting into the village at this point and trying to at least get into a structure and fight out of there. So that's that's what we're GONNA do. I actually went back down the mountain to start con- some guys up we're basically and tried to hand over hand these guys down and just get them in a secure area and then continued fight While I was doing that as wind Scott the team starting in another Combo Guy got shot a John John hitting the Shin and it basically amputate his leg right below the knee and then Scott was hitting the plate and armed So went back up there to where they were and runs working on all the other all three of them and Scott's GonNa turn it on and he could walk so I grabbed him in helped him down the mountain. Pass him off to other websites Taken down a little goat pen at the bottom of the hill is take him down there. It was a hard structure hard enough Get Him put it in there and we were GONNA at that point go back up and try to get these other guys down Anyway Kinda Day kept going on and they obviously they pin that location down pretty well and they obviously they found. They knew that's where we were say. We're just hammering it pretty hard and the ground was just like Torah with bullets. And Everything. Where they hitting you from both sides to they. Well I mean so. This is basically like Dan Bush at this point because the way the mountain went so terraced up all the way right so you kinda go up wild and climb up a little bit and then continue up on so there was village basically to our front and then high above the left is also village houses and stuff so they were able to kind of maneuver in that area and kind of pinpoint us the best they could you know. And the best we had was air I lasker dropped something. Like seventy some just danger. Close bombs in a whole bunch. More of in a gun runs kind of stuff. But the so we kinda the other ones. Aren't Seth Howard myself after. I don't know how long did in town lost medication with those guys up there. So we were. We were kind of talking to the. Kayla we gotta go get on one or the other You know we're GONNA start side dead bodies off the side of the mountain or or or they're up there and we're GONNA help get down with you know either way it's pretty much got to happen So I knew from several times. I knew that the way we had gone was obviously not going to happen. They already shot at us. Pretty Seth night quite a few times from where we were. Kinda had a little bit of covering away. Llosa almost got hit got hit a couple of times so they they kind of found us as well so we found kind of a the cliff kind of went around basie. Kinda hand over hand climb. What kind of scale laterally this cliff face and then found a little outcrop time on climate to those guys Luckily they were still everybody's good you know no other injuries in the ones we had. We had an interpreter was killed early on in a couple of Afghans with minor injuries. But that was really it and Dave Sanders actually found a route down the back of the mountain so we started lowering. Everybody down Seth and I kind of late up there he had he had. Sr Twenty five of them and he was kind of laying down cover fire. We were moving everybody down in basically expo the backside mountain and then once that happened we were able to. Kinda like had to fix the cabinet. Radio obviously His cabinet are terrible radios but once radio back up he was able to kind of get on the horn and bass called. In the MEDEVAC PAS. Awesome a they came in. I think for sure one got shut up pretty guessing when the pilots got hit They came in put it down the best they could landed. And we were able load off counties in a couple of other minor wounds. Load them up and get them out of there And then after that it was just basically a kind of establish security protect ourselves best we could and continue dropping bombs and then move out for ex bill. That's kind of the long and short of it. I guess when you guys came in expecting a short mission did you guys come with rucksacks. That looks so no yeah. We didn't have me rucksacks It was just. It was going to be a you know a day thing Get in get it done and then get out we were. We were able to stain or so for the day No we're not. We didn't plan for an overnight. Deal was not not going to be Come to find out after the fact that they were going after was there but so it was another one. And that's why security was. They had security so high You know the end around estimating a couple of hundred of them And so they were not not waiting for US necessarily but when I heard is coming they were ready. And that's kind of why the situation went the way that it did. It's kind of one of those deals as we're obviously the right place at the right time. It's not the didn't work out the way you wanted it to you. You talked about Lots of gun runs and drop a bomb danger close and everything. Did you have enough basic load on your or did you get resupplied? Ama- throughout the day. Now the good thing for us to at that point was so all the Afghans had enforce and then those dudes carry more ammo than anybody could ever need. I mean I think they were carrying like fourteen fifty magazine piece so we were actually able to carry our basic load in knew that we were we. We'd have Ammo basting where we needed it because we had a hundred plus guns and they all had all their magnum also. That was the nice thing about being. Dan was a day. Had All brown weapon system. So you know is is easy tradeoff if needed so did you guys ever get the two I know I know the one in You know getting killed later on Several years later actually I found out On a different deal actually don't even know the the story behind it But no we were not. We didn't get them that day. You Know Ron you mentioned earlier. Was there as well as was the only medic so I mean some of his story of courses that you know he's he's there burn along with you. Both of you guys Were trying to deceive these guys going taken back down the mountain and everything else and I guess you said you was a heavy so you end up having what five Five total team guys into becoming casualties and then left you with about ten guys still. Yeah I mean he did like like I said only medic on the ground. I mean. That's the biggest testament to to him as a medic and and really medics generalists. How well they're changing. What they're capable of. I mean he had one bag and you know three for sure. Life threatening casualties one. That definitely could have been You know and everybody got home and everybody's fine Vise can be And doing well living living life. Great things so I mean. That's that's an actually estimating story to sell for sure. I mean what you what you did. I think we're all amazed at being a bucks Arjun and so new with this being your first appointment. I mean it's it's nothing short of amazing to be honest with you..

"Joined by Don by Mike by Zach and we have a very special guest. That's Matt Williams and Matt. I just like to you to the metrics military podcasts. Whether I really appreciate you coming on guys You know reaching out and having on its pro. It's an honor to be here Still getting used to be one to hear apt to say so. I can imagine always good. Yeah oh no. I'm sure it'll all be you know when I was looking back at your background. I started noticing that you you began in. I guess it's called born. Texas is then originally. Where you're from Bernie. Yeah it's a nice I know exactly. Where is that? So it's a San Antonio Just basically West on Itin. I mean it's kind of I've been back in quite a while actually I think it's more or less partisan on this point from what I understand. Gotcha okay so now. You went through high school and everything there. As a younger kid lived in Houston and went out to Bernie An elementary school so basically school to high school there In that area and then moved out I went to college out in San Angelo out in West Texas from there. I joined the military going back. I mean you got your bachelor's degree in criminal justice yeah did so You know back in Graduate High School in two thousand so You know always had an interest in serving in the military law enforcement wherever so in criminal justice route planning on going you know had big hopes of joining the FBI or something that along those lines and then in college obviously September eleventh happened and I mean for our generation of changed the landscape of of military service and opportunities that are out there in the country is kind of at need network and all that. So that's when I started looking around. The military has an option Did do quite a bit research Looking at the navy for the seals I knew I wanted to do special operations some form. So we're GONNA seals Looked at reinforced RECON. This is the premark days and then I found you know the Green Berets Army special forces and I kind of liked their mission set what they had to offer and had eighteen x ray program which they still do which basically to join Sign a contract saying that. I would go to selection basically posts interschool airborne school all that and then had the opportunity to afford Brag and go to selection. You know so pretty much off the street or whatever it was awesome. Awesome Path That's kind of what I what I set my sights on there. Yeah so you end up going in this is about September. Two thousand five. I guess it was when you join right. Yeah I just finished my team short time in two thousand and five these laughing early mad because I was talking about fully shit. This kid was an eighteen x Ray. Two thousand five. I worked out at chemical as accurate program was was kind of brought online and I think brought it on line. Two thousand eight thousand one early two thousand two and the first group kids. It came through just awful terrible. You know Because he brought about seventeen eighteen year old kids at maybe eighteen nineteen year old kids and it really shifted focus toward Catch just like you right. College graduates little little life experience a lot more maturity and then and then brought brought them but man I I I left already. Teams rotated in and out of Iraq. A couple of times and I was on. Honestly when Zach was big vote because I am so fucking old I was I was a cio of eighteen branch manager when you came out of you so it's entirely possible that I processed your assignment to your first duty station in Special Forces group at boss appreciate it though. 'cause IT worked out it was my choice worked out. Just say thank God. You didn't become a seal. Yeah no I know you had the same program. But I couldn't do it. I'm not a not a fan of water to be honest. Didn't have the hair and the APPs and everything else weren't ready to do tell while they wanna take me out by now anyway. You were aspiring to be an author or an actor so you ended up becoming a weapon. Sergeant was this something by choice. Or how did that ended up coming down. It was? Yeah so I actually got lucky You know during my time my first choice was actually third group. The Base Hackensack your assignments that you want. Mls Language Group And I knew I wanted to go through a pick that and then French as my language because at Kinda coincided with their group and then weapons start and so i. I don't even remember what my second choice was. It might have been might have been medic. Luckily they didn't think are smart enough for it. I guess it worked out so Why Third Group At the time you know they were they owned Afghanistan Pretty much in a I mean. We just kind of transitioned out of their four. Five years ago. At this point you know they were originally africom aligned than ten took over the brunt of of Afghanistan at the time and shared most seventh group did did the back and forth them so I knew it was somewhere that was going to be. You know where you're surely GonNa go to Afghanistan And that's why I joined You know to to take part in the the war so They're was wow. Yeah Robert Lobby bigger. Let me make a plug for Thursday. Because I think they're groups since its inception at least until Afghanistan really got a raw deal. Nobody wanted to come out of the Q. Course and go to third special forces and I think primarily because the African mission. I was the same way on the Tenth Group. Guy I want to go to. I wanted to hang out nightclubs in eastern Europe tone. And you know I guys say the same thing about going Asia a great environment but I when I was working You got you might know this guy when I was working at Camp. Call one of my partners out. There was a John Crenshaw. You Know John. He's second battalion. Third Group I guess New Year's I'm pretty sure he's retired. John told me he goes in no uncertain terms. He's like if you WANNA do Green Berets. Shit go two thirds fourths of group. He kind of cut his teeth on all those African missions. You know and you guys were heavily engaged in Afghanistan still and I was a battalion. Csm We had the third route. Mitch are the Africa mission. So I- deployed guys on Jay sets and get Kony Michigan and and the Horn of Africa stuff and all the other task force out of West Africa for the whole time Algebra Ninety. Osama and he was right. I mean when you go out you visit. Those guys are living in austere conditions in the middle of nowhere with a huge partner for us. And they're getting after it just like you read about guys in Vietnam do so I think honestly it was always unknown to a lot of us in the other groups but third group is a great place to be. Yeah it is I mean license so we we've kind of given up not giving transition out of that. The Afghanistan being lead honest or back in Africa. I just did a trip to West Africa team sergeant and it was a good deal it was. It was interesting mission at different problems than we were used to but it was opportunity to. Kinda take you take what they give you and and you know the Catherine I saw it for what it was and looked at it and I've seen do s stuff so we we expand our pardon for Via Lot ended up. Kinda taking on multiple mission sets splits the team and it just kind of staying busy having guys you know in small little groups out there train and doing as much as we possibly could The client has changed a little bit. Obviously with some of the things have gone on the past years but I mean it's still a good opportunity for for guys. It's not what everybody wants to do anymore. And everybody wants Afghanistan rotations. And and all that. But it's still a valuable. Sf South mission. This time line. Now you're about two years into this whole thing into training pipeline graduate actually graduated the the key question August seven and then I got to group early October basically. It was right on my birthday so first week October. Got There and then left early two weeks later we was on a plane. Afghanistan. I it was and it was an interesting transition. Yeah interesting is an understatement. So at this point you know like most guys go eighteen x Ray. You're already a buck sergeant right. So you arrive at the Unit Buck Sergeant. You're going on your first deployment and then you find out its operation commando wrath. Yeah so we did We actually got lucky that trip we had the first commando Kanak our battalion and they were. Actually they just got up by seven. Crew Vetted and whatever tests. But they were the first operational battalion when we got there. So we basically had all of Afghanistan to ourselves we We traveled quite a bit Did stuff in the central like senator. The country we went down south for awhile spent like a month or so dente Kandahar And then once the next candidate on line we transitioned over to eastern Afghanistan basically worked at Jalalabad For the most part. And that's where we kind of finish off our trip out in that area. So that's where we ended up going on. The wrath was one operations that we ran out of that area. Okay so this particular mission though you were supposed to be in the shock valley and you're looking for high value targets that's right yes one hundred commandos with you we did. Yeah so we the way we kind of worked it You notice a basic red immigrant cycle within the battalion. So we always had a company that we operating with Yeah it's about a hundred Afghans at the time and our team was actually A little bit beefed up so only twelve guys we had a couple of extra Bravo's couple tries basically Extra few of everything except medics lead or not So one medic but we ended up with new on the team things. Fourteen or fifteen guys. Plus you know if you got straight task Ajay tack or Ct. All that stuff. Kind of run down through the events of what what happened. I mean when you guys got the call to to head out to shock valley. Yes there was something we've been planning for a little while you know. Typical of of Afghanistan especially in the mountains weather deal constantly battling weather and trying to get helicopters. It was cold snowy. It was called. Yeah and there's you know in the mountains up there you know it's like the weather can kinda come in on a win and Kinda screw everything up but with finally got the call ago We're supposed to go early morning. It kept getting pushed right as as it does So we basically know. Finally everything lined up loaded up on the Chinooks flew in..

"Thanks very much for joining us. Now, we're going to go through the quarters and try and work out who's going to make their way fruit to the latter stages the crucible, so we'll start in in court one. We've got Mark Williams. Dave Gilbert, Barry, all kins- Karam. And then the the seeds in their Adria come to you. I who would you anticipate to come through that that Corta really tough little section with carbon Wilson, unburied Hawkins. Just Kearns Kearns. That's what better season won three titles, and he's just appeals a bit more as a sort of winner. The Barry Barry, Mark win the Tautou one year. Hopefully, you will. But so I'd go with Matt Williams could be one world class player in the long run. So I'll go with current win that quarter gonna go wave, Barry organs. I just think these think the young apply on Kearns, maybe a bit different. But these younger players they don't play that many longer distance matches. Do they signed? Barry hawkins. Just in terms of Endre. Be voter the experience guys were just. Think they used to playing the longer matches? And I it seems to sue on some of these young Chinese ones doesn't seem to see, you know, they probably the best to seven shoot outs. And it doesn't seem to suit that they gain these or two, and then when we get into free sessions are at a look Hawking's Wilson's head to head record earlier and Hawkins, I think he's remember big hole can leads but in recent years carbons Karak terms back eight into it. So okay, Dave, come through this a few older stages in their Williams, of course, mountain goal. John Perry play well with the crucible before who's coming through court one while thank you. It just hit the now bang on the head. They're talking about the these longer matches. Lot of the tore now is best of seven went. Bam. Thank you, ma'am. It can be done within an hour. Now, they go as a plan over sort of eight nine frame sessions coming back the next day or a day after to go again, a Nike experience that Barry Hawkins is gone. I think we'll see in through malt Williams's is. But I was just surprised to see Barry Hogan's, I think thirty in in the betting into win cool to number one. And that is a big round of this year. Okay. I'm gonna go car Molson quarter. One could say he's got a fairly holiday. I very much in comparison to Hawkins. So. Yeah. Had car Molson for for quarter on the Frank. Actually, Mark Williams could maybe lease eight in the Saginaw. Did you a not going to be a successful defence? Mark Williams will at least we won't have to see him naked again. So that those does at least one positive to that in terms of quota to Dave will come to you first. We got John Higgins among the siege. Sure. Bingham? She'll Murphy, Neil Robertson. I'd expect one of those four I think it's fair to say so to top Cuarto who do you think's going to be in the semifinal that lot? What I think that one of the Gibbons is is that new Robertson. We'll be playing someone from either John Higgins, Mark Davis. Stripping of granddaughter because I can't see Maku GIO show Murphy or Hong help causing much problems. Robertson will be there for me. In.

"At one to your contracts. So they need to make couple deals season couple of deals right now and get some off its players in their out saying again, not just one two and brings things together to pass the brazen than they are the team to beat the l look at that is there potentially. And I'm not asking you to pick on guys that are running baseball teams in and major league baseball. But I look at I look at that national. They've changed managers quite a bit of the last seven or eight years. Then with Matt Williams, they go to, you know, David Johnson dusty Baker now. Dave Martinez is at least have to ask the question is Mike Rizzo. Just not very good and his staff just not very good at picking a manager. I mean is that a skill that maybe is missing there in Washington as a group, whether it's Mike Rizzo, mostly by himself or just a collectively there because there seems to have been some issue or else they wouldn't have made a change a manager every time on the way you get a couple of years in they make a change get a couple of years in make a change can't get over the hump in the playoffs. And now here they are just a couple of games over five hundred with a new manager and Dave Martinez at some point when the issues keeps showing up, and you know, the talents on the field. Right. You have to look who's making the decisions above that to change the personnel. It just seems stable might resist dealing with long enough here stands that. And frankly ownership over there does too. Okay. Usually, and look, I don't really mean man, I'm gonna say, what's on my mind. Usually when ownership makes it the. You're never going to hear about it. The GM's gonna wear it the way that works. And if and if ownership is making these changes because they want to get results because they see the money they're spending. And they know what's on the field. You can't do anything about it. She would present peaceful officer general manager. Yes, go ahead making move now when it comes to to Rizzo. Mike had excellent track record scout directory. Excellent tracker is an executive and it's time for him to take that step to he needs a trophy. He needs a trophy as well. Kind of cement what he's done in Washington. I think maybe maybe for all this time of him being there. And after these things not bearing out the way, they would like some substantial pressure being put on Mike Rizzo, and that's trickling down hill of the clubhouse even with one Soto coming up, and he's been amazing. He's been up eleventh in the National League and runs per game or the NATs and their ninth in slugging just in chrome. I'd never would've guessed that from from that particular team stayed in the National League east before we before we move over to to the AL the Mets, obviously. Blow up my question to you is it should they blow it up because they should light the fuse now and light another fuse a week. And then light another fuse all the way up to the end of the season. How much can you actually blow up during the middle of season?.
