High Fees? Bitcoin Is Working As Designed by Matt Odell

"High fees, Bitcoin is working as designed. By Matt o'dell Bitcoin transaction fees limit network abuse by making usage expensive. There is a cost to every transaction, set by a dynamic free market based on demand. There must be a limit to how much data is transferred across the Bitcoin network. In order to keep the ability to run and use your own node accessible. A node is required to interact with the global Bitcoin network. If you do not use your own node, then you must trust someone else's node. If nodes become inaccessible to run, then the network will centralize around the remaining entities that operate them, threatening the censorship resistance at the core of Bitcoin's value proposition. The Bitcoin protocol uses two main mechanisms to keep node operation costs low. A limit on the amount of data in each block and a robust dynamic transaction fee market. Bitcoin transaction fees limit network abuse by making usage expensive. There is a cost to every transaction, set by a dynamic free market based on demand. It is an incredibly robust way to prevent spam without relying on centralized entities that can be corrupted or pressured. After the 2017 Bitcoin feast spike, we had 6 years of relative quiet to build tools that would be robust in a sustained high fee market. Fortunately, our tools are significantly better now, but many still need improvement. Most of the pain points we see today will be mitigated. The reality is we were never going to be fully prepared. Pressure is needed to show the pain points and provide strong incentives to mitigate them. It will be incredibly interesting to watch how projects adapt under pressure.

"Joining us now is the prophetic and the very wise Glenn Beck Glenn, thank you for making time and joining the program. Let's dive right into it Glenn, do you think Tucker Carlson is going to be able to get out of this contract mess the struggle that he has right now with Fox News? I have no idea what's in his contract. I just know that it is important to understand they did not fire him. He is still being paid and they did that for a reason. They'll continue to pay him. So we didn't fire you. You're still a consultant or whatever. And that's an intentional move, but I think he could fight that in court. I think it would take a while, but I think he could fight it in court and win. Unfortunately, the time that elapses is really precious time. I'm a huge fan of Tucker Carlson. I thought he was the only person that was on a platform the size of fox that was telling the truth, night after night after night. He is a crucial voice to all of us. And the Fox platform had to be dismantled because the left just can not handle other people having other opinions. And I thought he was very calm, collected and he's just wicked smart as well.

"I'm going to ask you to speculate a little bit here and I know it's going to be imprecise. What percentage of legislative decisions are made with members stock portfolio in mind? I don't know if it's always the legislative decision. That could be as low as ten to 15%, but there are ways members of Congress can impact stock prices without a legislative act. For example, who a committee chairman calls before a hearing, how a particular CEO is treated with white gloves or going after them. Whether or not you have requests for information, subpoenas that go out to particular entities. If members of Congress have securities in a particular entity, then they function as part of the protection ring for that entity for stuff that you, the American people will never see.

Rep. Matt Gaetz Describes His Unlikely Team-Up With AOC

"Us now is Matt Gaetz, Matt welcomes the program. You're going to have to explain this one to me Matt. You are co sponsoring a bill with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Tell me why. Yeah. I'll work with anyone and everyone to make Congress less corrupt. And you can disagree with a lot of AOC's views. I certainly do, and she probably disagrees a lot with mine, but we are not part of the bottom paid for caucus. She holds her view sincerely whether you like him or not, and so do I. And one of the things that's really frustrating is when you even try to engage in debate with some of the colleagues, you don't get a sincere reaction or response to the substance of the argument because it's all about what stock trades they have, what lobbyists pay for their votes and what interests they're beholden to. The legislation I've sponsored with congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez ends Congress insider trading stocks. Members of Congress should not be allowed to trade individual stocks. It's like letting the referee bet on the game. And I can't believe we've allowed it to occur. So frequently, and when you look at the backgrounds of some of the representatives and then see the wizardry that they are able to deploy in their stock trades, it's really a head scratcher.

"Asked how likely is that cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 election? What did you learn? That's also a record setter for us. Again, a perennial favorite we've been literally, I think the only pollster routinely asking questions about election fraud. And the trend seems to be that as time accrues between us in the 2020 election. And as mainstream corporate news media ignores potential evidence of election fraud, people's concerns have not gone away. In fact, they've actually increased. So in this question, I'm now 62% of all likely voters think that it's at least somewhat likely that cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. Wow. The implication there is that maybe the outcome would have been different if said cheating hadn't happened. So very important question. That's 62% number is the highest we've ever seen. The previous record was 58%. So the media conduct all of these, if they conduct these concerns, as long as they want, people are not going to stop thinking that there's fraud in elections. And even in the 2022 election, we got a very similar signal recently about that same 62% of people think that she didn't affected 2022 as well. Trump and DeSantis Dominate in Latest 2024 Election Poll

"Who's the chief pollster for Rasmussen, joins us now, Mark welcome to the program. Hi, good to be here again. It is definitely a lot of numbers. Yeah. That is so I have all these charts and graphs in front of me and why don't you just start with the most significant and we'll work our way through it. We did this poll and it was a sponsored poll so everybody can go to our website and download the stuff and look at for themselves. There's like 20, 25 questions here. Really dense, but the poll was done for one very specific reason. Our sponsor for this poll, Larry word from political media. Was really sick of the infighting that he sees on the conservative side, and he thinks that desantis is perceived to be very favorable among Republicans just as Donald Trump is. And that potentially together the both of them on the same ticket might be better in whole than in part. And so that was what we set out to prove. And I think we proved it pretty resoundingly. So we started by setting a benchmark of how would Trump do alone in a 2024 rematch against president Joe Biden. And Donald Trump beats him 48% to 41% in this poll, which is in line with what we saw about a month ago when we ran that same question. Then the next thing we did was we said if Florida governor Ron DeSantis was Donald Trump's running mate against Joe Biden, would you vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris or to Santa's Trump? And now, Trump does better. So we have Trump and desantis beating Biden and Harris, 51% to 43%, which is a slightly larger lead 8% instead of 7%, but it gets the Trump ticket over the 50% hurdle, which is very important.

"I want to get some other stories here. That we have a story here for breitbart dot com. I want to read the headline. Speaker McCarthy and video special how the world has changed in new Republican majority in-house. I'll never give up. Matt, you've had the opportunity to interview him a couple times. I mean, I think that he's doing everything that he said he was going to do over the course of the beginning of the year. And if anything, that really rainbow chase first week is speaker or the week leading up to him being the speaker the first week of the Republican majority where they had 15 separate speakership elections. We talked about this in the interview. So we did it in our on camera interview. We talked about a whole number of different topics, immigration, China, the border. The debt ceiling was a big part of it. The one of the things we open with was the new Republican majorities like. And that was very much focused on what that first week was like. And he talked about how it was. You know, pretty tough week, you know, 15 rounds like rocky Balboa, but he made it through it. And he said that while it was tough going through and he wouldn't wish that on anyone, it's still he thinks that that made it made the House Republicans come a little bit closer together. And I think you're seeing that happen right now where they just pulled off the remarkable passage of the debt ceiling deal that is forced President Biden to the table to negotiate. And now the Senate Republicans are united behind the house Republicans heading into these negotiations next week at The White House. So. There are a lot of things to like about what McCarthy has done as speaker so far. And I

"Yesterday we were talking about your background in behavioral economics, behavioral strategy, and how a lot of this field of economics is super relevant in the crypto space right now. And I'm fascinated by it. You know, I come from an econ background. I love having these kinds of conversations. So tell me about what you're noticing, not just at consensus, but in this space right now when it comes to game theory and people's behaviors in terms of the market. Yeah, I mean, I think we started crypto economics in the space as drawing on economics, but it's increasingly become behavioral in the sense that we're now paying a lot more attention to sort of non rational, non self regarding human behavior, which is more the domain of behavioral economics, behavioral game theory, so you'll hear vitalik wrote this great essay. The scarcest resources legitimacy, right? Suggesting that maybe at the root of much of what we're doing, there's this kind of interesting socio psychological concept called legitimacy. So that's just naturally handled pretty well if you want to model it formally in behavioral game theory, but there's all these others as well, right? You read about AMMs and people will model noise traders. So noise traders are irrational traders in what ways are the irrational. You can model it with behavioral game theory. Certainly Dow behavior right around social identity NFT behavior is really interesting psychologically. And so I just think we're in a space that's pretty much a behaviorally driven space and we're not fully using the tools for it. But I think we're using the concepts at this point. So I'm sort of like I'm pitching us to get a little more formal.

You're the Washington bureau chief for the wonderful website breitbart dot com. So Matt, let's talk your top line thoughts, your analysis on the Tucker story. What do you think we're missing that is the most important part of the story? Well, look, it appears as though the Murdoch family is trying to silence Tucker Carlson, the Fox News board, which includes Lachlan James and Rupert Murdoch as well as Paul Ryan, the former Speaker of the House, various establishment Republican. They want to silence Tucker through the 2024 election. Tucker Carlson has a is currently under he's not been fired from Fox News. Everybody's saying these fire, they're just wrong. He's been his show has been canceled, but he's still under contract. He's not allowed to go out there and negotiate something new or go to somebody new until such time as the Murdoch's and Paul Ryan, the Fox board, allow him out of his contract. His contract runs through December 2024 right now. So they are trying to silence him and what's really going on here is that, you know, we see these weaponized leaks by Fox staff arena burgundy, who is the head of corporate communications for Fox News, has been weaponizing text messages, videos, all sorts of different stuff to different places to try to tarnish Tucker's reputation. That's backfiring on them. I think people are turning away from Fox. They're turning two places like breitbart and other conservative validation places like your show. Other conservative media outlets that are seeing a huge spike in attention because people are turning off Fox News, which is an honorable thing. But ultimately, what's happening here is that the Murdochs are trying to retake control of their network. And

"Medical workers applied for religious exemptions to the city's vaccine mandate In Los Angeles roughly a quarter of the police department is expected to seek religious exemptions to discuss this latest complication in getting more people vaccinated were joined by NPR business desk reporters Shannon bond and Andrea Shue good to have you both here Sorry Shannon to start with what if leaders of major religious groups been saying about getting vaccinated Well so far no major religion opposes the COVID vaccines In fact prominent religious leaders are endorsing them Here's Francis telling Catholics that getting vaccinated is an act of love He says love for oneself for families and friends and for all people Even the Christian science church which councils prayer rather than medical care says it doesn't have an official policy on vaccinations It leaves it up to individuals to make that decision And that's exactly why this is so complicated when it comes to religious exemptions from vaccine mandates for employers for schools because it's not about what religious institutions or leaders say it's about personal belief And so what kinds of objections are people raising on the individual level Well so I covered tech I've been following a lot of these discussions on social media and in particular I've been looking at Facebook groups that are opposed to vaccine mandates And a common question I'm seeing pop up in these groups is members asking each other where can I get a religious exemption What should I say trading tips on what to tell their employers And one line of reasoning that people in these groups often cite is the false claim that these COVID vaccines contain fetal cells And people who oppose abortion have raised that as a moral concern Now to be clear public health officials say fetal cell lines developed decades ago in the laboratory were used to develop and test the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and that's a common practice in pharmaceutical research Other fetal cell lines are being used in the production of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine But these vaccines themselves they do not contain any fetal cells Okay so Shannon you've been following the conversations among objectors on social media and Andrea Shue you've been talking with some of the employers who are seeing these requests come in What are they saying Yeah Ari Well I talked today with Matt true He's the CEO of Conway regional medical center That's a hospital in central Arkansas He's gotten 45 requests for religious exemptions way more than he normally gets for the flu vaccine And they're all based on the fetal cell issue that Shannon just talked about You know Tripp told me that he took this as an opportunity to educate his workforce He had his team compiled a list of 28 common medicines that also used fetal cells and testing or research or development And this list which I have right here it includes things like Tylenol ibuprofen claritin even tums He set this list out to everyone who applied for a religious exemption And here's what he said about why he did that They need to know that they're going to be consistent in their beliefs that applies to a lot of different things other than the COVID vaccine Now I should say that list didn't change anyone's mind They still wanted the religious exemption And troop granted exemptions to everyone who asked for one he points out it's only about 5% of his workforce So the vast majority of his employees are vaccinated and those that aren't will have to go undergo regular testing So that hospital is an example of one that did grant religious exemptions How common is that among employers Well it's really hard to say but remember every employer does have an obligation to keep their workers safe And the law puts employers in a pretty strong position when it comes to religious exemptions Under the law employers have to provide a reasonable accommodation for workers who have these sincerely held religious beliefs unless the accommodation poses an undue hardship So what's not to do hard to write Well I talked to Roman and Hernandez about it He's an employment lawyer in Oregon An undue hardship is one in which the employer must bear more than a de minimis cost in accommodating an employee's religious beliefs And ara you can guess what de minimis means smaller minimal So it's a pretty low bar something as little as having to move people around to different shifts That could count as an undue hardship so that employer could use that to deny an employee and accommodation And have you found employers who are saying it's too hard for them to make these kinds of accommodations Well yeah last week we saw the NBA deny a religious exemption request from Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins San Francisco of course has a vaccine mandate for large indoor events and the NBA said wigans will not be able to play at any home games until he's vaccinated And already there's also United Airlines they announced back in early August that all their U.S. employees would have to be vaccinated A few weeks ago they informed staff who had applied for religious exemptions that even if granted those exemptions they would be put on unpaid leave So by the legal standard of reasonable accommodations does that qualify Well that is the question Is it reasonable You don't lose your job but you lose your income for an indefinite amount of time Rahman Hernandez that lawyer I spoke with he says unpaid leave has historically been upheld in court as a reasonable accommodation It's probably not the accommodation that those workers wanted that that is something that the employer is providing Now a handful of united employees have sued saying their rights for violated the unpaid leave is not a reasonable accommodation These employees who include a pilot and a flight attendant they were granted religious exemptions They weren't fired but they say they're basically being cut off from their jobs United told me they think the case is without merit And by the way they report that 97% of their workforce is now vaccinated So that's Andrea with the workers view to come back to you Shannon rather with the company's view to come back to you in the workers Shannon what should employees thinking of applying for religious exemptions keep in mind Well you know it's been interesting looking at these Facebook groups Ari right People are sharing links to get paperwork sort of proving that they have an example They need an exemption So there are some pastors and online churches that are offering people letters to give to their employers Sometimes that's an exchange for a donation You know there's sort of there's opportunists in here There are links to people who claim to be consultants who say they can help folks get exemptions There's this one group that offers different packages so you could pay a $175 to.
