"Stuff coming up. Okay, let's move on to the really good stuff. Sunday afternoon, rams at Buccaneers. And this was a game that looked like it was going to be a blowout that looked like it was going to be not competitive, halftime score, 20 to three, rams come out and score again in the third quarter. It's 27 to three as many people noted at the time. Awfully close to that magical 28 to three number. And things started to feel like they were warming up and everyone's like, nah, it's not gonna happen. It's not gonna happen. Like, the bucks don't have it. They're struggling. Defensively, they haven't been able to do much unless the, you know, unless the rams are turning over the ball and explicitly. But the thing is, the rams continued to turn the ball over inexplicably. And when you turn the ball over inexplicably against Tom Brady, little a little lightbulb goes off. A little switch, a little on button is pressed somewhere in his cyborg brain. That says, okay, now it's time to find the Enzo. I'm done. You're going to give me the ball back. So we've got fomos from cam Akers. We've got fumbles from Cooper Cup. We've got Matt Stafford looking for butterflies while his center snapping the ball and giving Tom Brady an extra 25 yards, right? So what happens? Tom Brady Tom Brady's. That's what happens. It happened. And the bug scored 24 points in a row. It doesn't matter when the opposing defense isn't playing you well if you're just going to give the ball back Tom Brady yourself. And that's what happened. So we were staring down the barrel of Tom Brady taking the rams to overtime when Matt Stafford did what he does best and close out the game with the home run on broken coverage to Cooper cop and the game was over. Gay and Phil gold range in boom, final score, 30 to 27. Matt Stafford, a lot of people don't realize this. One of the great game winning drives quarterbacks in the NFL. Very good at executing game winning drives, even when he was in Detroit. Usually it's not with like 40 seconds on the clock, and a playoff game, but it's a new era for Matt Stafford. And for all the mistakes that were made, the rams were the better team. Matt Stafford wasn't the better quarterback necessarily because he was on the field with Tom Brady, but he played well enough, and they are rightfully moving on to the NFC championship game. A lot of people at this point are saying there's no way Tom Brady's going to go out like that, right? Losing the divisional round. He was clearly defeated. It was an incredible comeback. It was one of those games where everybody at that point was prepared for Tom Brady to pull it out. Because we've seen so many times. So while they did lose, was there such a vintage incredible Brady quality to it. He was so masterful in the last quarter and a half of that game. And he dragged that team to the point where they were, you know, 40 seconds away from taking it to overtime and things didn't go his way. But I'd actually don't agree that this is a game that would prevent Tom Brady from retiring. He's not stupid. He has to know how difficult it is to retire after winning a Super Bowl. The only way you're not going to retire after a loss in the playoffs is if you win the Super Bowl. So maybe he wants to at least play it. I don't know, but he had a chance to do that last year and he didn't do it..

"Who cooks cooper cup and matt stafford earl captains. I don't i don't like seeing all those sees also their Their end zone stoop too many colors. It is yeah. I like i like. The idea is a throwback. It's cool but it just it looks fake or the problem is like the first three yards of the end zone. Or it's a yellow stripe that runs across the field of makes it look like you're not in the end zone right right like sometimes teams do that the back of the end zone. I think they're out of bounds. You think that you have to go further to get in. Then you really don't know but the rams are really good that was that was to mismatch teams Two teams going opposite directions. And that's what we got for sunday. Football all right. let's move on. Let's move on to some other games. oh one last thing about the bears game that i that i like five minutes was so fucking funny. How they ran the ball back. Nice brownback back david. Montgomery whose awesome. I fucking love david. Montgomery he makes me happy. Then they get all the way down to the four yard line and y'all frozen interception and the mass safran throws a bomb and it was like game over. Four minutes into the game was a whole game. No i'm out of breath. It can't handle all right. Eagles falcons jalen hurts. Might be the guy and so so week. One is a big like oh we probably should have paid attention to this little more nick serianni so my question is coming out of this game. Nick serianni good coach. Jalen hurts the guy or do they. Just play the falcons. I think it's a little bit of both knicks by the way knew that he was going to be on. Tv for the first time like on a big broadcast so he wore his most extra medium polo shirt that he had made him look like he was in good shape. You have to come out strong as his first impressions are everything for people like us that crtv and if you look frumpy at all that's what we have in our minds for you for the rest of your career. Yes serianni past that first test. He got dressed using a mirror today. Which is good and then on the other and we had arthur smith just i think he said after the game i sucked getting us ready for this game. So he pulled the old that sesa falcon style take a look in the mirror myself and it starts with me. Well i feel bad. For arthur smith in the fact that i think the falcons are just cursed totally new coaching staff. You know who you'll leaves. They draft kyle pits. They still can't score in the red zone. They they get six point they. They drove down the field in the first two drives very easily scored six points total basically did nothing. The rest of the game and i am at the point now where i officially a wanted on the record. I officially feel bad for matt ryan. I feel bad for matt ryan especially after watching what matt stafford got matt. Stafford is like the middle aged puppy that got adopted. Matt ryan is slightly older puppy that might smell a little bit or not puppy dog and no one's adopting him there. He was like in a long term foster situation for about a year right and he looked great. Anyway you know. He had like a bushy tail. Happy disposition he was. He was finishing his meals going outside at the appropriate times not pissing in the house and then the foster parent had to give him back and they're like we can't. We can't handle this pump. I thought going into season. They were good at this point. It's sad like he's not. He's in the most sackable quarterback in the nfl yvette. Move when they were good he was. They were still kind of bad in like weird way. They had a good run like he had a good run. He wanted to mvp. I just winning the super bowl one eight two three at this point it feel. I feel bad for him. Because it's like he's if you're going to play out the stretching atlanta it's probably not going to get better before it gets good defenses bad their i mean their defense really bad. Their offensive line is not good and i don't know i just feel bad for my. He's clearly he's not the same guy who was when he won the mvp. I just feel bad. So sad to see quarterbacks he's a really nice guy and it's not it's not the falcons are going to be good that if you compare that ryan to matt stafford. I would've agreed with you going in this season. Where if you found matt ryan a good home like this year i still would have agreed and said yeah. He can be a very very good quarterback this year but he just. He doesn't look good just when he does have open. Guys throw it. I feel like the last two years last year and a half has really like sunk him down really defeated. Yes this this season is probably going to be. I would say that. He's not in danger of getting benched. Because i think his backup is josh rosen. Who looks like aaron rodgers. he looks like have you. Did you see that picture of him. He after the game he looks still believe he looks like aaron rodgers got captured by isis being forced to label even hold newspaper up to his head still. He's been on every team in the nfl so far. He's gonna keep getting chances. But i don't see matt ryan pulling it together. This season. the falcons being team. Because like there i think they're leading rusher. Today was quarter patterson. He i know he gets. He's dynamic anywhere. He ends up he just becomes the the guy that you run every plate for by the way. I'm just going to push back on one thing. Josh rosen. doesn't get chance. He gets chances but without getting a chance he gets chances. He doesn't actually get a chance he gets. He gets home. Yeah he never gets an actual chance gets passed around. And then they're like okay. You can be the third quarterback. But you're not gonna get a chance. And he's the guy that will show up and get the third quarterback position and then he won't get a chance to even get a rep impractical we reps. Yes resigned him. We caught them days later. Jalen hurts second touchdown pass. That was so. We know that we always do this. Where if you see one play that you love guy or bad play you can kind of just right how you think of him jalen hurts the way. He moved up into the right in the pocket. For a second touchdown pass again. This might be. Just the falcons being this bad. But i was like. Ooh he's good. So i'm a believer in jalen hurts now and i think i'm a believer in devante smith. He's big enough to play in the nfl putting to bed..

"Worst Who wins the M V P I say Tampa Bay finishes the best wins another Super Bowl Texans. Oh, they're going to be the worst. It's a bad team, bad, bad team who will try to get rid of a guy that some people think he's a bad guy into Shawn Watson. And I think there can re wins the M V p this year, stacking up those seasons if he pushes 2000 yards again, I think it's going to be really hard for The traditional voting media to ignore a feat like that from someone like Derek Henry. What say you America, 855 to 1 to four, CBS, Josh and Michigan on the grass show on CBS Sports Radio. Hi, Josh. Hey, man, how you doing? I'm all right. What's up? Alright, so I got Pat Mahomes as M v P. I got hometown by Detroit Lions Worse in the league. I receivers are not it right now. Defensive, terrible. And then Super Bowl. I got our boy Matt Stafford going to the Rams, taking them to the promised land. Alright. So, Josh, you're in Michigan. What would it mean? If Stafford gets there, like are people in Detroit rooting for him? Or are you an outlier in terms of the way you feel about Stafford? I love Stafford. But I've met people here who absolutely hate the guy. They don't think that he was the answer. I just hope he goes and either wins at all or that you terrible and get the number one pick for us, So there's really no in between. I got you, uh, that's that's pretty That's that's pretty interesting in your right. You forget about the trading of those first round picks and how as a fan from afar Can really get wrapped up into rooting for another team to fail because they own that first round capital. I mentioned it Earlier, When Matt Stafford came up, I just have no reason to believe. Why a different coach is going to be able to get a different result out of Matt Stafford. Mattie Stafford, his head multiple coaches in Detroit. It hasn't worked. Stafford is, uh, you know, had the luxury of Never really being challenged for starting quarterback job for a decade. And that either level of I don't know how you want to look at their at that level of security, that level of comfort. You know, it didn't necessarily lead to Matt Stafford really getting settled in getting better and finding a way to lead his team differently. To be able to get a better result. I just don't believe that when you put a guy like that, with Sean McVeigh that now all of a sudden things are just going to change within the career. Matthew Stafford, because he's got another coach. Once again. He's had different coaches before. And it just hasn't worked. So or I, It's very much like I could be being too rough on Matt Stafford. Because I've never really been a fan to begin with. I just look at how come he wasn't able to affect the right kind of change there in Detroit, and they had that one year where they won when 11 and five And then we know how that turned out. I said, We know how that turned out. We know how that turned out, and it was a term heard of a turnout. 855 to 1 to four, CBS Vic in Detroit on the grass show on CBS Sports Radio. Hi, Vic. How you doing today? Aggressive alright. I'm good man. I hope you are the same. What do you have this evening? I'm first of all I got to tell you about what you said about mad Stanford. I mean, Being from a guy that's been watching Billy Sims. There's Sanders, Calvin Jones. I mean, Matt Stafford really didn't really have a great chance is the trick. He's going to have a lot of better chance in L A. Don't get me wrong because it's just it comes from the top in Detroit, and I hate to see because from the fourth family, they just don't know how to run an organization. Just bring people in and shoot him out. Every company that has been rebuilding you and I'm talking about I've been I've been watching the Lions since Wayne, France. Was a coach and and and used to come out on the field to cigars and stuff like that, and I used to be a ticket holder. And I'm just they just don't have The finesse rather than intelligence and how to run a professional or a football organization. I'm gonna give you always give you and all your friends the groups that now I'm sitting here right now in the parking lot of Motor City, Dracula, and I am betting Am pounding the understand the Lions economy under and the games in light of this season because the lines are going to be the worst football team in the NFL, everything the Jets, uh is going to be, but I think you know to use them. But Some way. Somehow the lines just completely. I mean, they're going to get demolishes their division and that's what I got for my M V. P is Aaron Rodgers. These intellectual speaks officially, he's gonna be throwing that ball over the president, and at least I could put up over 300 character, an alliance defense alone. She's looking for that big money contract next year. Then why? And Rogers went out of Green Bay the only way to get out of Green Bay like every mistake the NFL's business when it comes to dollar bills. You know what people react. Aaron Rodgers looking for that big big painting like Tom Brady got like Russ Russell Wilson kind and then I have also, my team said it is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Because their team there's so much and think that even Tom Brady confessed. Larry for that didn't even want to get the vaccine shots for Covid 19 totally against it. Only that we're going to no matter what happens, one of the risk, isn't it a thrill almost found it. And Tom Brady can do. I mean, I'm not talking about how much a man has got. I mean, and I know I'm in Michigan guy and I'm Michigan Father. Yeah, but with you event, so I'm kind of buying. I'm sorry. And I know you know, I've been a time Brady fan all my life. I've seen the kid play instead from your them, but we're talking about a 44 year old man who was convinced his entire team to get vaccinated. Because they want to make sure that nobody gets out of a football game that you told me that that's not disciplined. That's how much this team has got disciplined. You've got everybody on board and they're willing to take this. The best thing all the way through the Super Bowl. They are. They will try. I and I like the bucks to go all the way As you had mentioned. I am fascinated with the people of Detroit and their various thoughts on guys like Matt Stafford. Their thoughts on their team being a really bad this year. You know, I thought there might be a little bit of optimism in Detroit, just because when you bring in a new head coach, and you have a new quarterback that people would look at that organization with a different purview. But instead? No. They think the lines are gonna stink. Uh, Tony in Wisconsin on the grass.

Hey, Joe, What do you doing with avocados Today? He was almost station today by the Joe Montana threw for 3653 yards that year with 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, the great Dan found, said 27 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. We people say, Well, I mean Manuel food, they don't make them like him anymore. What Jimmy Mac that year had a quarterback rating of 82.6. Which let me see in that year for all of the guys that were Like Ken O'Brien, I think statistically had the best year of anybody that year. It's just crazy. How they remember to away games daily. The quarterback rating also is a lot of ways. It's tied to completion percentage, right. I mean, they weren't throwing wide receiver screens they weren't thrown as many hitches. The rules on how you can cover a wide receiver were completely deaf Review completed 60% like Remember Joe Montana in the 40. Niners played that West Coast offense where that little swing pass was That was the first time you ever heard anybody say Well, our passing game is an extension of our running game because we get the ball in the hands of our receivers in her back really quickly. Joe Montana that your completed 61% of his passes. So I mean, it's just It was your right. I mean, it was a different era. It was a different era. But statistically, yeah, you're I mean, you're right. Jim McMahon was never leading the league in any statistical category. I guess you could tell me more this than I could tell you because Was too shocked to hear the gym. McMahon's Hi touchdown here was 15. Yes. You just told me Ken O'Brien and that same year had 27. Yeah, No, I am. I am surprised. But I think Jim Jim fit that team. I mean, that's that's kind of that's who they were. That was their DNA's. That was there. You know, they were just a different It was a different style. Um, you know, I like I said you you would know better than I didn't even get here until 89 played with Jim and one training camp and I was I was Absolutely totally impressed with the guys football like you. Yeah, despite despite his his body haven't taken a ton of abuse, and he physically wasn't at his peak in that time. Paul was always on time and camp. I mean, he knew where it was supposed to go. I was really impressed with him. I think his body had betrayed him at that point. When then we traded him. I think to San Diego. Um, yes. Yeah. I don't think anyone will ever look back and say Jim was one of the all time greats in the history of the league. Well, people bring that up about. Hey, will you had Jim McMahon? That's what people a lot of people bring up, and that's why I always say. Google his numbers, you'll be shocked. I wanted so Everyone has always said about the quarterbacks, and that's why we're talking about Nick. Man we're talking about racks were talking about Tre Biscuit. We've talked about Cutler these air, the greats of the modern era for the Bears. We've never had a truly truly great one. So let's play the There's rumor of the day, okay? What's it? Newton Garoppolo Menchu cousins Glennon. It's time for the QB. Rumor off the day, you know, mija love it. This is from that Maggie from a Mike Silver article on NFL that club dot com. Talking about All the quarterbacks moving around, had tipped to believe her nation. One person watching closely is Chicago Bears coach meant Nagy, whose team is actively seeking a replacement for Mitchell. Travis Key, the number two overall pick. In the 2017 draft quote. With all these quarterbacks out there and all those young guys who will be in this draft. It's gonna be a fascinating off season as far as the quarterback position, Nagy said. And once one goes, it's going to be like a domino effect. So was that one Matt Stafford or is that one to Shawn Watson? And another name to bring this to moved. Off. And you ever remember. They know we're swamped for one another. But there's been two names that have been moved in Stafford, right. I'm just reading you his quotes. No, I know I'm not like I'm there's really nothing there. And the thing that the rumor the chatter today is Carson Wentz could very, very Likely be traded is the way Adam Schefter said it. He was on a Philly sports radio station yesterday. Does he interest you and Woody interest met Maggie considering Doug Peterson, who is close with Matt Nagy was the guy who wanted Jalen hurts. I told you this yesterday. That's not the route I would go. I'm not convinced that a quarterback that needs to be fixed that the people here can fix him. Wanted. I want a quarterback. This isn't need to be fixed. I don't think that you have the capacity. The time the patients the proclivity, whatever the word is that you want to use that don't believe that their best Option is to rehabilitate a talented quarterback who has gone south made. The other side of that is a quarterback who may not be have to be fixed could just be a little above average. And you could be paying a very, very high cost for him. That's true, But you're still gonna have you're not gonna have to pay much, probably in terms of trade compensation or less. Probably for Carson wants, but you are gonna have to absorb that contract. And Like dare cars playing better than In Carson Wentz right now, Right, So, yeah. Mean again. I think he can be. I think there's talent in there. I think he can be fixed. Think even you don't even have to go back to that season where he got hurt. The artist stats from the 2019 season and I can't profess toe to tell you that I've I've watched every eagles game from two in 2019, but I think his his performance in 2019 wasn't Bad. So like it's a newer phenomenon him not being able to play his position. Yeah, I mean, he still wasn't ever a zoo. Good is the year that he did get hurt. There were still still things that he did that would drive you crazy. I'm looking up his stats right now. Then we were. Why don't In the meantime, When I get some callers, I need 10 callers. Let's go every inch every five. We're gonna play a game based on the Super Bowl 3123323776 in increments of five all the way up to 50. Carson wins here. I've got 27 touchdown, seven interceptions in 2019 quarterback rating of 93 threw for 4000 yards completed 64% of his passes. That's what I mean. Like 2019 wasn't horrible. So maybe you don't think you fix him as badly as you think. Well, that may be true, but I think he still needs to be fixed a little. All right. "Call Greg O'Donnell at 866496 23 100. He's got an event going to we're going to talk about in just a minute. But our brief hit with Brian greasy starts now, Brian, Welcome to the Murph in Mac Show. Brian Murphy. Paul McCaffrey, the 40 Niners flagship. So you can imagine what we've been talking about the last couple weeks. Quarterback might be the topic. But how you doing, Brian? Happy Super Bowl week. I'm doing great guys. Thanks for having me on this morning. Oh, yeah. So before we get to Brady just love your opinion on the 40 Niners quarterback situation. You know, everybody here in the bear is torn up about it. You know whether or not you run it back with Jimmy G. How that they miss out on Stafford. What can they ship for Dish on Watson? You got to see this team this year. What's your view of what's the best move for the 40 Niners? Yeah, It is a tough situation. I think if you if you're honest with yourself, you take a step back and look at it Objectively every every general manager every John Lynch out there, and every Kyle Shanahan, a head coach should be looking to improve their team. I think that there are quarterbacks out there that are better than Jimmy Garoppolo. And I don't think you could argue that Jimmy Gras blows a serviceable quarterback. But there were limitations on Deven in the Super Bowl year. You could. You could argue that objectively. S so I think they're looking to upgrade the position as they should be. Um, Matt Stafford would have been a great edition. Now. They lost out on that, too. Shawn Watson would be pricey. I don't know that they're in that. I know that this John Watson would be interested in a roster and an organization that is well put together like the San Francisco 40 Niners, But I just don't know if they're gonna be able to push over the top. Teams like the Jets and the Dolphins that might have more capital to give up. So, um, I think Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch smart there together and how they're approaching this on going to try to upgrade their team anyway, they possibly can. Either. The one that's not nearly a sexy that gets mentioned on occasion is Kirk Cousins. I don't even know if there's any wind behind it. But if you're the 40 Niners is that even worth investigating Well, there's there's history. Obviously, with Kirk and Kyle s, so I think it is worth investigating. And everything is worth investigating. You know, I think it might not be a starting position for you. May you may cycle through two quarterbacks. Um, you know, I think the one that if I was them, the one I really be kicking the wheels on because he might become available. On these young and has upside, um, is Sam Donald and I think that Sam Donald with his skill set and mobility and that offense. With those playmakers would be one that if I could get him for the right price I would be really interested in. Okay, There you go. So in other words, serviceable but with limitations. And if you're Jimmy, let's say they do have to run it back with him. Ultimately, everything follows through Do you have to Do you have to coddle Jimmy's feelings? Do you have to tell him? Hey, I know we try to get somebody else, but we still want to win a Super Bowl with you. The NFL's a big boy leagues. You just don't put on that alligator skin and go go play, huh? Yeah, I think I mean, this isn't the first time that there's been wandering eye. Okay, so I think Jimmy gets it. Um, you know this. Jimmy needs a focus on Jimmy what he can do better, overcoming some of his limitations and focusing on him. You know, they're having the same conversation of a lot of NFL towns Right now. Two people are worried about two. A thunk of my lowest feelings in Miami. I mean, Come on. This is the NFL at the quarterback position in particular. You gotta have really thick skin. Yeah, For sure. Brian greasy, the voice you hear and the Super Bowl Week, So, Brian, you've got an event going on. Right? Let's tell us a little bit. I think it's virtual people can check it out. What's going on? Yeah, thank you. I appreciate the opportunity. You know, I, uh, my mom passed away when I was 12 years old and you know, I was living down in Miami and it was a very difficult time for me and My wife and I started a organization 18 years ago called Judy's house, and it's named after my mom who was duty on we were working with grieving Children and families trying to prevent Negative outcomes of unresolved grief and promote positive coping skills in families and s. So I think that people don't realize how many grieving Children there are in our everyday life, no matter where we live nationally. The number is one at a 14 kids under the age of 18 will have a parent or brother sister died. And we all could be better, You know, talking with the Children in our lives, whether it be our family or friends, family business partners. Talking with them about grief and loss and helping them through that most difficult time. And so that's been our mission for the past 18 years. We've served over 11,000 Children in their caregivers in that time. On beer. Gonna do an event on Saturday night to make people more aware of how they can help the people in their lives that might be grieving. You know, in this pandemic, there's so much more lost, and we can all be better in communicating with each other s. So we're gonna talk. Football on Saturday night. It's at 4 P.m. Mountain Pacific time We're gonna preview the game. Get everybody ready for the match up. I'm gonna have an interview with Charles Woodson. My former teammate, Um, talking about him getting into the Hall of Fame, potentially on Saturday night as a first ballot guy..

"And I love watching, But I'm having a rough time by the day rougher, fundamentally like mentally co signing the notion of giving up You know three. That's one thing. Four first round picks and a starter now I know And it's four relative to Detroit. Does Matt Stafford because they gave up a player also? That's the difference, right? Uh, well, yes, but also the difference? Yes. Yeah, you literally. Yes, but also, you know, you're acknowledging that Stafford's good Watson's great Yeah. I mean, you know, so right away, you know, even if even if it wasn't to offset the contract of God, which is what forced you quote unquote forced you to throw an extra one, or, you know, or that third or we're both into the hopper to entice the Rams to do it. Apartment, enticed the lines to do it. The differentiating factor here is while Stafford's good Watson's great and he seven years younger, Yeah, I mean so. You know, I mean, I know there's a report out there, you know, you tell me because maybe I'm too close to the situation. If you're Joe Douglas. Now, I don't know what the dot will the Dolphins. You would think it would be to us all right on define the Dolphins. I would obviously do that, because if you're getting rid of two, and he's the player and you're inserting, watching that it's mean, of course you do it the Jets to give up three or first round picks and Winning Williams. I'm not. I'm not inspired to do that. Yeah, No, I'm not sure that's the way Ugo and you know, And if you're going to say, you know, if I think the Dolphins in the best position, because if you're the Texans, you have all of that draft equity plus two, uh Obviously you're moving on from two but two was still on his rookie deal. Got three years of rookie deal money, as opposed to say, I'm Donald has only got no he doesn't have any year, so he's going into year forward. You gotta get picking up the option. That's exactly right. So like immediately rescinded, but still but still like your immediately put in a position to do. We pay this guy $30 million next year or 25. Whatever it is, whatever you ever is 28 million area next year. The answer is probably gonna be no. So the Jets kind of don't feel like it's the asses. Muchas it sounds like it's the when we said that's all Last week. It's the it's the preferred destination. I don't know if it actually is. I think from a Texan standpoint you you'd want equity. But you also want maybe a project as well at quarterback, and then the Dolphins with one that give you that if the Dolphins really are ready to move on from Tua if I'm running the Texans right now, I don't want to, Although I understand contractually why he's far more appealing than Donald. So of the two I would prefer to or because they're just based on the money. And you know, you can theorize, even though I think that you know, I know Donald's bigger and whatever, but you can certainly theorize that, you know, three years in the book's fore Donald versus one year or a happier of to, uh, that there is untapped potential. It was to, uh okay. I mean, I could bore Americans say there's also untapped attention with Donald. Whatever you know, I think that it could be good, but that the point is, is that I wouldn't do that I would not want to. I would not want Donald. What I would want to do my target upon the Texans would be the Jets. But I don't want Donald the thing I don't that would then be incumbent upon the Jets to flipped Arnold and to get or keep Donald, you know for a little bit and then and then flip him right before the draft. Maybe get a third round their fourth round there for sure, maybe third. But if on the Texans the most appealing thing for me is Had that number two slot unless I am enamored with two uh and I don't know that they are. I know that I'm not. But if they're if they think like me, I don't want to. Ah, I want the number two spot. I want either Zach Wilson or fields. I want my choice, or I want the ability to go from two to wherever to take another quarterback, whether it's Mac drone, Mac Children or trail and whomever I want to know. That I am just accruing. Ah, small, you know. Or, you know a new army of number ones, and I'm not married myself to a quarterback that I don't love. I want to pick the guy that I love. That's a good point. I like to, uh That's one thing if I love t Oh, that's different if I love Zach Wilson. Oh, yeah, if I love fields like that is what we don't know. So we'll talk about this every day until we know what the Texans feel about the quarterbacks that we just mentioned. We don't know which way this is going to be T the Texans have not been In the market for a quarterback, and so they'd likely did tertiary work at best. I was out on standing on to write because they weren't looking and probably Donald. Too old, too. They have been looking for a quarterback for four years, so it's not. They're not worried. I've been worried about these guys. So there's your what you're saying is there's no chance that they love one of these young quarterbacks who hasn't quite hit With someone else on another team. They want to pick their own. And at this point the way that they were building you have to pick you pick your own. Um, yes, because there is no expectations. This is this is similar to what we were talking about with Detroit. And you know our buddy Dan Campbell up there now in Detroit, like there is no expectation right now. For the Detroit Lions. There's no expectation right now for the Houston Texans. So you're you're going to get the benefit of the doubt of a re bill. You had a new coach got a new general manager you got it just feels like it's new on starting over is probably the best thing that they can do unless they can convince the Shawn Watson to stay which again. We don't believe that that's happening. But the only way Tonto kind of make this thing like disgusting, nasty taste. That's settled in really all year with Bill O'Brien getting rid of Brandon, Uh, DeAndre Hopkins and then the dysfunction and finally get fired and then You know your limp to the finish line Despite having excellent quarterback. The only way to get rid of that is to start over with new pieces Almost everywhere. Listen, t we think about how we criticized the Eagles. Right? And you know the deterioration of Carson Wentz and How Doug Peterson was so red isn't to give Jalen hurts any postgame props or or annoyed him. The temporary starter like that was a mess, and that was a talking point for every show, but we were all over it on this show, right? Now, now, now can't that was bad enough, but contrast that to the Houston Texans who fired the coach first had all season in essence from the halfway point forward. To consider every option and line up every single person that they needed to line up to hire the best person to not only lead their franchise, but also maybe placates the wrong word. But ah line their higher with the hope of their future of their franchise quarterback, right? So not only did they mess that up But Carson Wentz right now is unrecognizable. John Watson basically won the NFL Triple Crown quarterbacking. They have butchered it at every conceivable level. It is and I said this last week if you tried, if you try to make this much of a mess out of it. You wouldn't be successful. No, you couldn't. Now you wouldn't shame. It's disgraceful. What they've done. It is Watson doesn't want. I don't care. What what Kohli says. He's not gonna go back there. He's done. He's not. He's out. He's out, So I ask you every day. I'm gonna continue to ask you every day. What team? You think Watson's on next year? I asked you Friday. I'm gonna ask you to them. But here's the thing If you would've asked me what team is Matthew Stafford on? I don't think I'm saying the L A Rams. I don't even think it's close to the top of my mind. To be honest with you to say the L. A Rams. For from Matt Stafford. And so I'm gonna I'm gonna say Atlanta I'm gonna say the same about you said this the other day..

"I don't see them going too. Hard and free agency. Maybe they do draft a quarterback but who knows maybe drew lock still the starting quarterback. There's a. I feel differently every single week about drew lock. It's really really true. And that's what makes this offseason. So fun is all of the uncertainty surrounding and brady where i am right now as much as i want the broncos to draft a quarterback in the first round this year. And and that's what i would do. I just think with with this offseason likely being another off season. I don't think the broncos won a half to turn to a rookie without getting any offseason time right now. So i'm there with you right now. I think it's going to be drew. in a veteran hedge. And we'll just see how How how much competition. The broncos bring in at hedge is it a guy that can come in and start right away or is it a guy that's gonna come in and really just be a good back the boy this is gonna be so so interesting. Zach always appreciate you doing this coming on talking to us. Whatever that story might be. We might be knee. Deep von miller news next week. Who knows what we're looking. "Boy there is a lot to get to today. We have quarterback a lot of quarterback news. Matt stafford has a new team. And it's not the broncos dylan. Mccaffrey has a new team. And it's here in greeley and as the voice the bears. So that's gonna be pretty exciting. We'll talk about that later on Get to my game of the week. Nolan aeronautical is gone. I mean the joker had a thousand points yesterday almost at least close to it. There's a lot to hit. We're talking quarterbacks. I though joining me now zak stevens from. Dnv are broncos zach. My friend matt stafford. How close were the broncos in landing this deal boy. Brady good to talk you. What a weekend of court it was. And i would say the broncos deal kind of land in the middle knowing her an auto trade absolutely terrible horrifying can't believe that deal happen. The not making the deal for matt stafford seems to fall in the middle. Because of course the big news especially up where you are dealing. Mccaffrey going to unc. That that is to cool. That's obviously the best. And like i said matt stafford deal not getting done kind of falls in the middle. But it's a great question. How close were the broncos. And i think there's two ways to answer this. The broncos were one of the final teams in on matt stafford. They did show a lot of interest in him. And everything i've heard and also being other reports seems like the broncos were willing to give away and equivalent of a first round. Pick now from what. I've been told i do not believe that number nine was available but i don't even think number nine would have got the deal done so in terms of how close they were. They were one of the final teams down the stretch in those talks. But i think they were pretty far away from actually getting a deal done just because of what the lions were able to get from the rams. The broncos offer was probably about a ninth. Pick away from being done. I think the broncos would have had to trade to first round pick in order to get this thing done future first and the ninth overall this year and the broncos. We're willing to do one of those in terms of First round value..

"Bill barn. While i am sorry. I off retold you on friday explicitly. You'd have this rare sunday off from your job making a smarter about football. But just when you think you're out espn daily always pulls you back in pablo. I was ready to record at one in the morning to talk about the madden pro bowl. So this is slightly more newsworthy. So happy at least we have more something something more compelling perhaps talk about here with matthew stafford trade bill barnwell is a senior writer for espn and the host of the bill barnwell show podcast compelling but also kind of the closest thing football gets to a video game transaction. Two starting quarterbacks getting swamped. We have matt stafford. Go into the rams jared goff plus two future first rounders and third rounder. This year headed lions. So when you got the adam. Schefter claxton on your phone saturday night. Your first reaction was what. What my first reaction i would say that the rams really hate traffics and want to get rid of them quickly and efficiently as possible and then my second thought was that the rams really were done with jared goff and wanted to move on from him and weren't going let anybody beat them to the punch with an offer. We knew that a deal was coming this week because there were reports on saturday that the lions were expecting to get a deal done by tuesday which is essentially when it comes to the nfl their way of saying. Hey get your best offers end because we're gonna make this deal sooner rather than later We knew the rams are questioning their commitment to. We talked about it over the past couple weeks on. espn daily. Even though his four year one hundred thirty four million dollar extension has not started yet. And then on top of all that brad homes the new general manager with the lions just like the rams after i believe eight years as their director of college scouting under less need. It was the other. Gm who made this trade so put all that together and the rams made the most sense as a possible destination for stafford but the fact that the deal was announced late on a saturday night probably tells you that the rams were not especially proud of how all this went down. Just given up on the quarterback they have been propping up and defending public years while giving up two extra first rounders justice upgrade under center

Obviously, look, you can't go wrong with either of those coaches of every NFL court. Back wants to play for college. Shanahan, a Frank Reich. I'll go. Indeed. I like the idea for him of continuing to play in a dome like that. There's just so many things to like about that situation. You put Matt Stafford Quarterback in Indianapolis, and I would say they become right there in my view, neck and neck with anybody to be knocking on Kansas City's door. Kansas City is the favorite to win the Super Bowl every year for the foreseeable future. They're number one. As long as Patrick Muhammed is their quarterback. They're number one in the conference. Then you start thinking about the other teams that you see in that discussion. Baltimore with Lamar, Let's see what they wind up doing there. Let's see what have Pittsburgh kind of tries to retool. Well, no, I He doesn't have a note a note straight anything like that, and he's still under contract. So Detroit's gonna have toe You know that they will have a lot of say, and honestly, the only way I think they would listen to Stafford is just know you've done a lot for our franchise for the last decade, So we're gonna listen to you a little bit, but Their new GM, Brad Homes, their new head coach, Dan Campbell. This is just who I You is right now in your four of the Archie Miller era, and that's an extremely inconsistent Normally below average, Big 10 team went out like people ask, What's the identity? What's identity? That's what the identity is. It's been a boon of below average big time basketball team in year four of the tenure. Baby. How's it that per duo and matte painter? Find a way to get better as the year goes on every single year, but yet replace you know Archie Miller with Tom Creen or whatnot. The Hoosier teams don't ever seem to do that. Yes, it's a great question. Hammer. I would say couple of things. I think Matt Painter is a great job assembling a puzzle because building your roster and knowing when the pieces needed plug in and when they're ready to be plugged in. It is a puzzle. If you look at two of their starters this year, they're both red shirt. Freshman, you know, red shirt to me. You don't hear that a whole lot. And today's college basketball certainly at that level, but brain and Newman Amazing, Jealous. You know, two guys that have helped him out big time this year. Again. We're patient understood their role last year, and now the sudden they're starting for four produced. I think Matt has just a great understanding of exactly what he needs to recruit. How those pieces fit. You know when it's time, Okay, let's focus on player development. Now, now that we really need these guys as well, and I also think he understands how to manage a season. Produce never been a great nonconference team under matte matte painter, But he knows what the gauntlet is waiting in the big 10. And you need to be a sending. Because as long as you take care of business in the big 10 this conference offer you plenty of chances. I mean, I used to last an entire month full of chances to possibly, you know, build some sort of in state tournament resume. Yes, I think you know produced done that it kind of reminds me honestly of the Pacers under Nate McMillan of your grinding it out so much to win these regular season games you get to the playoffs. What do you have left in the tank? I felt like we saw that kind of into Tom Crean teams and certainly in some Archie Miller teams of decent on conferences, maybe better, better than decent. But in the big 10 play, you just run out of gas. Speaking of the Pacers, just real quick you got about 60 seconds left Pacers better without all the depot. Well, cast that that stuff. Yes, they are better, but they're not better when they don't have vehicle Depot or careful, Bert like that. That's the issue. The guy who traded for Is not here. Unfortunately, and so right now, so much pressure's on Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis to do your score, and you really need Jeremy Lamb, who's now back, so I think, Get in the starting lineup. Take more of that scoring burden off. So yes. Trade was the right decision. But unfortunately, Laverne you know again is dealing with the whole different matter right now. So you're pretty much down in 18 20 point score at the shooting guard spot, either Victor or careful, Vert. He covers all things sports at one of 75 the fan. Where can we find you out on social Media? KB Yeah. Cabo in 10 70 on Twitter and one of 75 fan for all the content and you won't find any phrasing that Tom Brady there like like night. Going down that road appreciated, brother. Thank you, baby. See you guys. The hammer and Nigel Show. We're coming right back..

"Your quarterback that there's no going back to drew lock in this situation so to me. All of those deals seem pretty easy for me to do. If i'm george peyton quarterbacks the only one to do with 'cause all agree i'll i'll admit that when i'm looking at a top ten pick. I want denver to get a shutdown corner. But if that is okay but instead of that you can get your quarterback that might actually get you in all right. I'm taking that i. I wasn't crazy about moving away from that ten. Pick to go. Noah fant and jerry jeudy. I ended up being okay with because it's jerry. Jeudy he had that explosive ability. But it's hard for me to want to part with a top ten. Pick unless it's for a proven quarterback or a prospect of quarterback that we really think is going to be the next big deal because that's what we've learned. This weekend is most of the time nine hundred ten times. Eight hundred ten times. It's gonna take a franchise quarterback to get you there exactly and brady. That's the only situation where i'm not okay. With the broncos trading their first round pick to get matthew stafford if they identify someone in the draft that they love at quarterback and remember math. Or patrick mahomes was not the first overall pick. They got him right around. Where the broncos are right. Now so let's say the identify trae lance their guy and i'm okay with the broncos trading up in the draft to get him or let's say zach wills justin field then. I'm totally okay. With them hanging onto that pick but if not. It's easy for me because with matthew stafford. You're getting the guy. That is twenty five touchdowns ten interceptions. It's the broncos have that On the team they're going with and twenty one. They'll be competing for the playoffs and that'll be a huge step up for them. And then you know what what i love about. Matthew stafford is you're not locked into him for the next five years. Now you can be..

"Way, Matt Stafford as Niner quarterback. We hardly knew ye because Aaron Rodgers is the new nine X squared to that shifters, Schefter Stern it up their folly, stirring it up, saying managers could say, you know, by the way, How about Jared Goff going? Whoa, Wait, What? No. There's a lot of people get moved, driving Garoppolo and and Jared golfer like on a conference call right now going hey, jeered this. I guess we're both out of a job, apparently, because so forget it by if we were doing this show Saturday, Matt Stafford was locked and loaded as the next Niner quarterback on then, if we were doing the show, you know, a week ago, which we were to Shawn Watson was locked and loaded as the next night or quarterback. Att's some point. Matt Ryan was in there somewhere, wasn't he? He was in there somewhere. Ryan Watson Stafford Aaron Rodgers. What happened to Zack Wilson, the BYU quarterback member? There was a point in the season where he was the guy who, Um, who my forgetting Justin Fields out of Ohio State. Maybe. How about the quarterback to actually have Garoppolo? You're the only guy They said You're the last guy standing with. I'll tell you. Come on. What do you give me? Floor poly Standing with Jimmy G to the bitter end and me standing with Joe over Tom Brady to the bitter end, Right? Probably. That's pretty good. 10. You and me both follow. We're both in our trenches. Right? We're in the foxholes. You're with Jimmy on with Joe. Yeah, but anyway, there's some sound from yesterday. Um, Aaron Rodgers making news. I mean, I my immediate taken. That was like, Well, there's no way and how the Packers are trading them, And so is this just like this is just wrong Emotion after a tough loss. Oh, auras. Schefter said You're Aaron Rodgers. You could make life hell on the Packers. He could be like, you know, I'm not coming. Trade me. I'm not gonna play. Yeah, whatever. He certainly doesn't need the money. So I guess that that that almost you could sort of interpret all this by saying like, I guess Roger's looks at yesterday. I mean, I'm just guessing this is what's in his head that he looks at yesterday and says Okay, I finally had my chance to win a title game at home because of my coaches, bad decisions. Was unable to win that title. Maybe if I go someplace else, I can do it. See, But to me that doesn't That doesn't have Roger's taking enough accountability for himself because the floor had nothing to do with the fact that Roger's wouldn't touch the ball under his arm and just simply run into the end zone instead of forcing it across his body into double coverage for an incomplete pass, that's on Rogers. You're absolutely right. And there's also Brian Baldinger has a breakdown. A pretty savage breaking. I said Thanks for swinging by the way. That was a great tax. Now that was one of them. Orange Rogers. I mean, we talk about these times. Jimmy doesn't see the field because we've seen all those Jimmy doesn't see the field. This doesn't see the field. Rogers was missing guys all over the place. Had a shocking lack of vision on a couple of plays would really shocked. Yes, that would have changed everything. What did you by the way? How much more like severe. Does it sound too? When you got baldy breaking it down? He's like, not lucky. Missed him again. Look what happens here, like ball degrading you in a tough fashion is like it makes it all the more severe. They're human beings playing in a high pressure environment. They're going to make mistakes. And Rogers made mistakes yesterday. He did. I mean, as good as he was. He did not see he goes to specific plays where he had Lazard. Why, on the third down, play Crazy Open the second, downplay. Where he throws the back of the end zone. That was the worst one of them all the one where he forced it back to Adam's Lazard wide open. I mean, there's like it's like it's like he snuck out in the field is like a security guy. There's there's nobody. Nobody near him yards. Yeah, and then and then the one you pointed out the rot. The lack of the tuck and run was just I just don't know what he's thinking right there. I don't know. You know that those are the moments. Those are the moments and and to give Tom Brady all the credit in the world. His moment was right before the end of the first half. Yeah, but he was fine. I'm gonna find watch me. This is my moment. I'm gonna see here. Hand me the knife so I can put this up to your throat carp A Brady. Um, you know, I mean, he seized the moment that was that was arguably the biggest play of the game. If not in arguably the biggest play the game. I think it was. I think it was the biggest play the game. That's where Brady gets all the credit in the world, man. For being so ruthless gangster as you called it, Bo. He's a gangster. Yeah, Here's a little Rogers afterwards about the fourth down play like that. The disconnect between him and the floor to about not knowing about fourth doubts Rogers on down. Did you agree with the decision to kick it there on fourth down? Well, I didn't have a decision on that one. Yeah, it wasn't my decision. Understand the thinking about two minutes with all of our time outs, But.

"You feel like you know more about him. Nick Suryani had he was offensive coordinator under Frank right again in the apples for for for three seasons, but he also didn't call plays. So I think for a lot of different reasons is an eagle fan. You're kind of like, all right. Like, what are we getting here? As far as what I think I mean, everything that I read is this. His players, love and former players love him, Frank writes, speaks very, very highly of him. Ultimately, you don't know what you don't know. I don't know what he's gonna be like in in calling a calling plays. I don't know what he's gonna be like within game management. I don't know what he's gonna be like when he has to stand in front of his team and speak to him When things go bad when adversity happens. I don't know what But he's going to how he's gonna respond to that. But listen. Andy Reid was hired by the Eagles in 1999. And Andy Reid was never an offensive coordinator, was never coordinator. He was a quarterback's coach. He was a tight ends Coach two quarterbacks coach and he was hired by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lori because he wowed him in the interview. They had the interview, and he said, This is my guy. He hired him. So Nick Syriani Weld them in the interview to where they said, You know what, Like he wasn't catching a lot of buzz for head coaching jobs. This is the guy so we will see exactly what happens. With that, but it's gonna be a fun fun off season because, as we mentioned earlier with them With Matt Stafford. That stuff for going back to Detroit is his boring is as anything that could possibly happen. Matt Stafford needing a new home and now maybe going to San Francisco or going to The Colts, the Washington football team, the Saints, the Patriots, the Steelers, maybe like Matt Stafford being available to go to a team that's missing a quarterback and maybe could do something from that, like that's awesome, just like Tom Brady's.

"In the NFL, right? I mean, with the way that passing is in this league and everything else, like he'll have those same numbers. He'll have the numbers of the vehicle. Wow. Matt Stafford. Unbelievable. Look at me. Look at me. You look at me yards. He has Get 45,000 yards right now. 5000 almost 5046 50 42 42 43 44 He almost 4100 passing yards this year. His Children 82 touchdowns. 144 interceptions numbers wise. You can't compare him to guys that have played in different eras and different generations. It's easier to pass these days. So Matt Stafford can start winning some playoff games can make a run. Maybe if he gets with a good team. I know New England looking for a quarterback. I don't know their roster is good enough for it to really matter. But I'm excited to see mats after go elsewhere. Is no one should have to play their entire career and my family in suburban Detroit. I've root for Detroit teams. My cousins went to Michigan State, so I root for US party over the over the Michigan Wolverines. But like I want to see now, when that's African do while not in Detroit, and I'm gonna see what Detroit could do with a with a guy Dan Campbell, who had one of the more embarrassing press conference I've ever seen. I mean, I laughed at and I played it on my show. Connor. I'm sure that you know it got your attention, as well with the kneecap breaking and everything else. But like Is that really the that really what you want to hear out of your head coach when he's having his introductory press conference? I really think you want to hear maybe just a tiny bit more professionalism, and I really do wonder if that's one of the reasons Matt Stafford was like. Look, I got to get out of here. Guys, Please send me somewhere else. You need to rebuild the young quarterback. When you hear your new head coach talk about biting kneecaps. I don't think that's a good sign. Total Savage. He's speaking in profanities, by the way, no one else was interested in Dan Campbell is a head coach and the dot and the and the lines even a six year contract. Right, like if you would if you would have given him a four year contract. If you would have said no. Then he goes back T o the saints right? Like he had no leverage other than you wanted him. You give him a six year contract. You want her to? Stafford saw that press conference has said, you know what? I'm good. I'm all right, like sent me to another organization. Because this this is a listen. I would love to be wrong because I have nothing against Dan Campbell. Like I said, I would like to see the lion succeed. But this is your head coach that you hired If you're a player on this team, and you see this mean, you want to be laughing at your head coach? Because I mean, that's what pretty much everybody was doing people Carthy has an update will come back. We have predictions on the game, and I had some plot some prop predictions as well and well, I will talk to Maura's. Well, It's John Marshall, CBS Sports Radio. Here's people Carthy with an update. Los Angeles: QB Philip Rivers To Leave Chargers, Enter Free Agency:
"The Philip rivers thing is really interesting because there's a whole bunch of things going on number one. The chargers need to find a new quarterback. The chargers need to find somebody to kind of become their guy here in this city. Philip rivers is may or may not play again where does he go and and then there's just the totality of Philip rivers career at this point. He's I think he's going to get in the hall of fame. Because it feels like good quarterbacks get into the hall of fame but he his career is a little bit of a mixed bag because he's the numbers are great. They've won a bunch of games but they've never been to the Super Bowl. I think they've only been in the AFC championship the game. Once in his career he played a long time he sees it one of those. It's really really nice and this is the thing about La. I know allies career is is a mixed bag to but there are two super bowl. Wins in that thing. There's a bunch of Nice long play offerings. Philip rivers has really never had that. I'm wondering if he's low key odor. The Matt Stafford met staffer when he does say goodbye is going to have some healthy numbers. And he's not going to have very much postseason success. And he's GonNa kind of be a guy and I know that doesn't sound like a good thing to say about Philip rivers because he's had occurred as better better than Stafford but the reality is that he's going to be remembered in the same grouping as Matt Stafford big numbers. No postseason success. Yeah you think about it. I mean ah you. Let's do the game real quick. Best Charger quarterback rivers is not Dan. Fouts Philip Rivers for me like Dan. fouts is still the guy that oh I think of when just off the top of my head and Philip Rivers has had a really nice career but he to me and make me. I mean you said Philip Rivers I but to me. It's still Dan fouts. Stan Humphries freeze is not the best quarterback in charge. He's not going to the super bowl super bowl so it's not the best ever which I think fouts is that guy and if you're not the guy that took him to the Super Bowl who are where are you in this whole thing and oh by the way. There's this whole element which absolutely sucks Philip rivers. I'm not a charger fan. I'm not not necessarily a Philip rivers fan but it sucks that they're the dude is homeless in a football sense and I'm not talking about where he goes with. Its indie or Miami or Tampa. He doesn't belong belong to anybody anymore because the chargers came to La Nobody in La Cares about Philip rivers as a football player. We don't have any history with him. We don't have any great. I remember seeing Filbert's do x Y and Z people. People Sandiego certainly do lay there anymore. And he doesn't even play for that team anymore. He's down the road. So who does he belong to at this point. He belongs to the San Diego chargers which don't exist anymore lousy guy that's had that career should have a home forever and he won't

Cowboys clicking on offense heading into matchup with Lions
"Golladay going up against the lions our. I should say going up against the cowboys who have a very good pass. Defense ranked number two actually against receivers and fantasy points fan duel. We don't know what Matt Stafford Status Status. He's probably not gonNA play or if he does play he may be limited because of that back injury just really kind of hard to trust this. Lions offense right now and Golladay they in particular is I guess a big. He's kind of like a boomer bust. I player just be based on the fact that using less deep threat. He's he's scored a lot of touchdowns Over the last like five or six weeks so it's just it makes me a little bit nervous at seventy six hundred this week going up against a very good Dallas defense and Particularly just against receivers and so I just don't love that matchup.

There's is no like hoard report that the dallas cowboys offered dak prescott thirty million over x. amount of years guaranteed this that but if dak prescott was offered thirty million a year and said no no that's. That's something makes you scratch your head because that's top tier money. That's that's right near the top of the harry. Matt ryan matt stafford that at the top of the list yeah but but i but i don't know that he turned down thirty real sea right. It doesn't sound right. Maybe it was a thirty average. You know the numbers the guaranteed number the money is guaranteed. Is it ninety eight guarantee plus because that's the going rate.
