"And a wonderful artist This was part of a an art show. We had a couple years ago where were Artists who were inspired by breaking bad came up with areas Artworks and this is one of my luggage. We're going to put this on the wall. We will always have a place here vince. I we were on the air. October thousand cleanable. I in studio guest in the history of the rich eisen show eight four four two four riches. The number two dow latest guest in the history of the rich eisen show has been on before pleased to have back year after his second draft is a head coach in the national football league. Carolina's matt rule. How are you coach. I'm doing great. Thanks for having me. Thank you for coming on greatly. Appreciated it. What was it like in your draft room of the number of times. I'm sitting there on the set. And i'm here in the panthers trading down i lost track and then you moved up all over the board. What was it like that night in the there are. There are a lot of nervous coaches and scouts right there. They watch other people draft him. You know we I think the other day it worked out it was It was It was nerve wracking at the time to be quite honest. 'cause you're taking some gambles but You know at the end of the day. Know the risk you know. The risk wasn't outweighed by the reward. So let let sell. Let's jump right into it if you don't mind. You had the choice of every defensive player on the board. I mean that's incredible that's dead. It never happened in the history of the draft that that Somebody eighth overall could be sitting there having every defensive player at their at their ready because the drafted never started with seven offensive players in a row Were you close to make an eight offensive players in a row. We had we had thought about it. I mean we. We liked a lot of guys that obviously the guys who went before us and and The the guys that were there But you know we. We looked at jc hornets as like being the perfect The perfect player for us. A great player. You know son of an nfl player so we've grown up in it. Love the way that he plays and then obviously fills a need for us and so I think anytime you can get a guy that you feel really good about. Not just what they do on it but also you know who they are and their and their mental makeup. You know It was it was a pretty easy pick for well. I mean you you had like. I said every defensive player available to you and there was patrick ser tan as well. I know you mentioned that. You like the fact that his dad played in the league and he might be grew up around the sport. What why why else. Jc horn over. Patrick ser tan from alabama. I don't think anything Negative to either player you as we as we as we spent time with. Jc on zoom. I went to the pro day. As i watched him walk around and interact with people. You you can. Just feel his competitiveness. And so you know that. That's that's something. That i that that i love and There are lots of other guys that we do like. Hey these guys would help us. They come in and play for us but but jc There was just a certain edge. A certain vibe to the way that he plays that that just kind of jumped off the tape. And i think it wasn't just me i mean i think our our our secondary coach or coordinator are g. gm. I thought i think everyone felt that. And and you know he is the way that we want to play and was at any point of view because again. I'm very happy to get him excited to get him any point at all. Your am i ever gonna choose an offensive player in the draft because your entire first draft was defensive players coach. Get crazy yeah. I looked over the offense of staff and you can see them. And then at the mr temporal and or you know he was you know he's he was kind of saying we ever go to someone on offense and it kind of in a joking way but You know again we we we. We love the kid and then now i've got back in the second round and we were able to get a wide receiver and then you know a couple of offensive players after that so But yeah there were there. Were definitely some guys on offense that were like. Why do we even write these reports. If you're not gonna nice. I mean why doubt tackle tight end from notre dame and tommy tremble and juba hubbard. Who had a terrific career at oklahoma state. all all four offensive players after all of that but in terms of An offensive player coach. I i'm not telling tales out of school that the nfl media writ large. Number of people. That i spoke to prior to the draft that were saying carolina absolutely would take a quarterback if the quarterback was available despite having acquired. Sam darnold who. I'll get to you in a second. You had justin fields and also mack jones on the board of were were. They not ranked high enough. Walk me through why. You didn't actually go in that direction. No no i love those guys. And i think that they're going to be great. Nfl players You know i just think for us When we got sam and Just you know again. you know what. He's twenty three years old just turned twenty four. We we just felt like Sam plus another player you know what would be better for the team overall. You know bill parcells once said you know one one player can't do it alone and so we're just trying to build the whole team and and i just believe in sam. I believe that you know he deserves the opportunity to go out and play with us and I think i think those other young quarterbacks are going to be fantastic players but you know the the the hit rate on first round. Quarterbacks isn't real real high and have a chance to get jc and have sam darnold. We just kinda felt like hey. This is two for one Now we just have to make sure sam's a great player for us. Well i mean coach. Matt rhule's carolina panthers here on the rich eisen show. I think i've said this to you before. And if not you may already know it or a jet fan Who was at the time. Also hoping maybe you you would get hired there A couple years ago hearing the words deserve the opportunity and associated with sam. Darnold like You know who's off for that like yes. He deserves it. He deserves the opportunity in the conversation about him..

"The buccaneers. Just shit the bed against the saints like they were bad against the saints like that was not a primetime worthy game that they just played a and i miss her number two. They didn't get their three points until the thirty eight. Yeah yeah it was a big deal. So we don't get shut out the world said it was the will must champ special. The world's go go. Yeah yeah so the the box kick the maximum score so people don't it doesn't strike them as like. Oh got shut out. Yes lost badly. Wanted to say it was forty one to nothing. It was on like the thirty yard line and he kicked a field goal. Yeah man you gotta you gotta save some dignity you you gotta you gotta prevent the shot. Do whatever you can do you know. Losing forty eight to three is better than losing forty one to nothing. I tell you what priority for the game priority number one that priority to is. They'll get hurt. You can't allow that other team to get their shutout stickers on their helmets so christian mccaffrey and so i'm gonna just genuinely say this. I don't know what his status is. I just know that he had a shoulder injury from sunday But it sounds like he probably won't place that's a bad thing for carolina. I could be wrong though so wreck me. Is that press mystic right now. All i've seen is day today. Yeah well day to day could also mean. He has to have it amputated. Blake lie coaches coaches. Say day to day. Not really knowing anything like last year candidate was day to day missing tire season. Okay so i mean. But i think matt rule is a little different than men ron rivera when it comes to that kind of stuff. If it's bad enough. I would just shut him down for the rest of the year. Did they say what the actual injury is. He landed funny on his shoulder. Read exactly what it is. Or at least i haven't seen it so i i don't know it could just be a stinger something like that those. Ac joint sprains get a lot from landing. Yeah if it's anything worse than that like if he's going to have to be out another three to five weeks i would just shut him down for the rest of the year. It is reassuring that he did. he did. Go back into the game after he heard You know play like one snap. But the fact that he was not field so and also. It's i think you know considering. He's a running back. It's more of a feeling. It's more of a pain tolerance thing than a functionality thing. I mean you need your shoulder. you don't really need your sellers run. But like italy a quarterback. He's probably for few weeks but with with an injury like that. I mean i don't know what it is but assuming it's really messed up. But he has like a sprain or something. It's like it's not going to get worse. You just gonna hurt just gonna hurt so it's up to you if you want to try to gut it out or wait a little bit. Well if they say to him it's up to you. He's going to play like he's not ally apple like he's forgot about that guy already. But i i mean like. I said if it's anything worse than a sprain or a stinger or any of those whatever i would just put him on the shelf for the rest of the year. We're not gonna win more than eight games like. That's our absolute ceiling it. Everything goes right. We're not gonna win more than eight games. So there's no point in running him out there and screwing up what could potentially be years. Two three four and beyond of the matt rule process for two more wins than a year that. We're not gonna make the playoffs anyway. You don't. I don't think you really wanna like have mccaffrey. Rehabbing the offseason. Like even though the offseason long time. Like i do it now like it like this year is this year's the experimental year. Like i think that that was part of why like matt rule went balls to the wall with play calling chiefs because he he knows like even even of carolina like somehow manages to pull out like enough wins to make the playoffs. They are not going to be a super bowl contender so like why would you take that chance. Yeah it's i understand all that but as a fan. I just want to mccaffrey play. I want to watch christian. Mccaffrey play football. Yes oh yeah he. He is so much fun to watch regard like from an entertainment standpoint. He is just fun to watch. So that part. I get so. It's it's a tough thing. I'm sure they'll probably sit out this week and then be fine. Like i don't know next week. Probably yeah i just. I don't want them to go to. I don't want them to hurt their draft prospects by winning meaningless games with an injured christian. Mccaffrey yet it's kind of a like losers all way around like if he's fine i don't mind them trying to win as many games as possible because i want to see them win but if he's if he's hurt i i i don't want them to jeopardize his career and then i also don't want them to win like i don't want him to go seven and nine instead of four and twelve.

"As a top as a top. I wouldn't say top. I shouldn't say top but like a upper tier level offense in real if you take other than the offensive line and granted. That's probably the most important part of a running back is one of the the the two best arguably the best running backs in the league are wide. Receivers are good. We have robby anderson who has finally been had a renaissance since he got away from adam gays surprise Dj more is a good Slot game we have curtis samuel. Although he gets a lot of hate on this particular podcast he's turned into a really good number two wide receiver Slash gadget player our backup running backs. Mike davis he's a good veteran. He is worth his three million dollar salary. Don't at me We have a good quarterback. Don't at me teddy. Bridgewater is a good quarterback No he's not elite. No he's not cam newton in his prime. He's good enough so we just need an offensive line and we need a tight end. Because i don't think ian thomas is going to be that great but we have pieces. Yeah i think. Ian thomas and chris manhertz are fine as your second third tight ends but you wanted like we need a number one tight end and we just don't have it and you know defense is a whole nother story. I mean we've got shack thompson. He's starting to be on. The decline. And jeremy chinn and brian burns are two cornerstones. And then you turn gross mottos is going to be good with some experience and then it's a whole bunch of who is that guy. Yeah and even the guys that are supposed to be good are still young. Like brian burns is probably our best offensive player right now. And he's in his second season. He's still got a lot of young sophomore because he was like twenty one when he got drafted so he's still got several years before he reaches his prime. There's nobody on this defense. That is either good or already. That's good and has like peaked other than try boston other than the j. Boston and in boston is like trae boston. Yes i think trae good morning coverage in runs. But he's like is good not great. He's fine you trae boston. You can get away with trae. Boston if other safety is really good against the run. Like we had with eric reid or yeah for a little bit or if you're corners are really good where trae boston can. Just be that quote. And i hate to steal this from another sport but where he can be your center fielder. I despise that but but you know try. Boston can't be your best player in the secondary. That's one problem and is right now. So yeah but i like lots of be excited for like i liked what we do on. Yeah i like what we do on defense. It's just the players aren't there yet and it's hard to say you know what would happen if the scope of the players were better or more developed but i just like how we do. Different things. Different each week depending on who we're playing against the depending on who's available. It's amazing how that works. And i'm excited that that will eventually bear fruit fruit. Once the players are better. Yeah matt matt rhule's process-based evaluation and process based approach to the way teams play. Football is definitely bearing fruits. Think because he's not really he he. He really focused in on his on the idea of of like having the right process in place rather than being more results based and it's clearly working i mean like carolina's obviously not winning these games but nobody really expected them to. They've already exceeded expectations of people. Yeah i mean. I i thought at the beginning of the year we would maybe win five games. We've already won three and we were having. We still have a couple of winnable games to go here. We were three and two at one point and we still have a couple of winnable games left while we play denver. We play somebody else. That's bad i can't remember. washington charleston. Already played the chargers replay washington and we play detroit. Detroit minnesota detroit so we have some winnable games left and green bay and green bay when we injuring in december. Yeah we got that. No problem i hope to god. I hope we play the in green bay. I hope we play that game the same way we played against kansas city. Just all oh yeah wall fuck it do whatever surprise kick on the opening kickoff fist. Yes just just yet like that. I hope we do that again. Yeah i want somebody to do that. I know teams have done surprise. Onside kicks the start. Second half i wanna see teams surprise on kit sidekick to start the game that can defer to the second half and kick it and then you get the ball to start both halves. That would be great baby. They'll try it against tampa because we just gave it away. You got to look that and then also listener to the podcast. I forgot sorry. I really also can't go that hard. Like back-back weeks because now like every punt the coverage team is going to be on alert every kickoff same thing. They're going to be ready for all these while things happen. You got to kind of save that for when it's more necessary my favorite thing about the fake punt to while we're talking about fake punts. He had two receivers. Why field like it wasn't just a desperation thing like it was an actual play like. He had to two guys wide open in the middle of the field. Yeah that was that was. I wonder what they saw.

Where do the Cowboys go from here? To the trade deadline — but as sellers instead of buyers

"The Cowboys easier to write about when they win or when they lose? Uh, they're easy to write about what they lose. When they win. People feel good. You sell more newspapers when they win. That's a proven thing. So there's that. But, man what you know now, sometimes when they're bad, they're just not interested. And they just kind of go away. Like I don't know what it's like to right about when the Detroit Lions are bad. They probably just people are waiting for the Red Wings to drop the puck. But when the Cowboys are bad, there's usually nine different things in Iraq, And this year there, there might be that might be multiplied. So there's you can just pick out of a hat. And and and go from there. What is Jerry? June Jones do now? You know, one of the really disappointments with serious disappointments, obviously of code. But one of the rial lighter disappointments of this year is that he doesn't do press conferences after every game, because I can't imagine. What level he would have reached yesterday. Um, you know, it's Tze one thing to get beat up by Seattle or airy Arizona's offense. They can't stop the run. With anybody, not the Washington football team. They run for over 200 yards. And if you want to pick one area of the Cowboys that does not beat up my injuries. Their front seven They've got Jalen Smith. They got banned arrest. They've got the Marcus Lords they've got. They've got elegance. They got Everson Griffen. They got Tyrone Crawford. They got guys were supposed to be there, and they can't tackle anybody. And then you have the hit on Andy Dalton and that nobody seems to concern about the chief shot by Jon Bostic. That wasn't it took the announcers of minutes to kind of recognize, but they did eventually, So okay, that's that's a brutal Yep. Be Amari Cooper is standing there and there's others around there had to be a number of players see it. I would think the entire offensive line and to see it. On nothing. Nothing at all. I mean, I can't imagine. If that was Dad getting hit like that that they wouldn't have done something but that that just pointed to the the give up factor of this team they looked like in the first quarter. They're out there to see when it's going to go badly, and you know how much it's going to feel like a ground hog day. They got nothing on either side of the ball, but quitting is worse than losing to him. Yeah. And of course, coaches will always and players will fight. You didn't quit. Everybody has a great attitude by when you see something like that, and when you see it That And when you see a team that just gets gassed in the run and announcers every week, whether it's the money, night crew or yesterday was was Moose. Ah lot of destroyed job back and they get very quickly. The out of position on these place. They really get outflanked quickly without defense. I mean, they're they're talking around the fact that team looks very poorly prepared and has no idea what to do in the players. Never respond if Jerry had to do over coaching. Well, I mean, that's what What was it about Mike McCarthy flying in and spending one night at the Jones house and all they were just so wowed by this guy. They couldn't believe it. Now, what have you seen in any game that he brings? You didn't call the plays so anytime the offense was playing well earlier in the year, That's Kellen Moore is offense. So what is he doing over there that he brings Emily brought in all these coaches? Guys he had in Green Bay 10 years ago. Mike Nolan, who hired him 20 years ago. It's just this. This cronyism tied coaching staff. And you wonder, and you wonder how much Jerry thought about like a mat rule. He mentioned Matt Rule one time last December, just after Baylor played in the Big 12 championship game. What a great young coach to thought. Matt Rhule wass. And you're Matt Rhule took over a team that was just God awful and got ready Cam Newton, and they released whatever they are three and four. They compete. Uh, yeah. I mean, I don't know. I don't know that he wouldn't like to rethink this lot. Now it's the first year so I think both the pandemic the DAC injury, the offensive line being completely wiped out. Those going allow the coaches to skate for year. But he has to be thinking this. This may have been a Terrible higher. The Cowboys buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. You know, I don't think they have a lot to sell. I heard somebody saying trade one of their wide receivers. They don't need that many hundreds of it. That's the one thing they have is good wide receivers. You want to trade one of those go You know, Draft Ah, linebacker with a neck injury. That's what that's what excites you about rebuilding the team. I don't think they will do much. There's certainly not Myers, they get by. I mean, I don't know why in the world you would add. Do it to a terrible collection of talent as this many injuries, but I don't expect him to do a lot, actually.

"The pros, which is, it's, it's the team building and the organization building, and it's the scheme. It's the combination. Great coaches can do both and his his coaching was extremely inventive, so he seems to get it whatever it is, but he also is bringing Joe Brady from Lsu and to get back to the whole thing with Cam Newton. I've assume Matt Rule One hundred percent made that decision or that he was the biggest voice far. I assume that everything in the panthers. Organization he's the biggest voice by far and I. Know I know ownership. is going to be part of it, but I think David Tepper is signing up for Matt Rule to be that guy and I think when you heard him. Talk about Teddy Bridgewater. Look I think I think they. There is no mistake that they. They released that statement that Cam. Newton trade the day before they signed Teddy Bridgewater when you can assume they basically agreed to terms with Teddy Bridgewater the day before so once. They knew they had teddy the guy that they wanted to go after and it's less money doesn't mean he's going to be there guy forever, but it's the guy that they wanted to go after for this year. WHO's played for Joe? Brady his his offensive coordinator I mean I I assume they they looked. Looked at the camp situation thought for whatever reason I don't want to deal with that. And I do want to deal with Teddy Bridgewater. Who One of our coordinator knows well and I think that rules set up for success because they don't have to win like if they go five and eleven, and they're an exciting offense. Everyone's GonNa love that rule. At least this year. In terms of public perception just points, and people will love Matt rule whereas Stefanski and McCarthy. They're going to have high expectations. I mean they're going to be expected to win. Matt Roll like what a six seven year contract I mean. Has To. If they go seven seventy nine again. It's like well. Freddie. Kitchens got seventy nine and everyone's talk about him like he's the worst coach in the history of the US. So that's it's actually kind of a high bar for first Kevin's defence. Give the. History of the US. People now talk about Freddie Kitchens. Like like he is the worst coach ever basically and like I, get it. He did a bad job, but like he was not the only person who doesn't think so. Joe Judge who hired him to come coach, tight ends I believe so you know these guys keep each other, no matter what happens. Well the one thing we know about Freddie. Kitchens because we got a chance to meet and talk with them like he's seems like a totally cool guy that loves football and his passionate about it, so maybe sometimes guys just not right for the big chair in the browns learned the hard way. That appeared to be kitchens estate. The one guy might as well just touch on quickly. I think. McCarthy is the best setup for success in Dallas, but also and I think you've. Alluded to this a few times. Mark this off season. He also is under the most pressure because people are gonNA expect the cowboys to win that division. You can't really say that with the browns and the giants and the panthers. McCarthy is GonNa need to get that going in the right direction, and when ten eleven games or he's going to be seen as. A We hired the guy that was burned out and Green Bay and it's still getting the same type results so that there is a pressure there, but he certainly has especially on the offensive side of the ball an awesome setup. Don't discount the piff that he had during this year away from the Gridiron, so I think that's probably the secret sauce right there, I think you hit on it. You don't hire McCarthy to rebuild and develop young players and you know it's like they hired him because they're ready to win. Now it's okay. That makes sense and the kept Kellen more. They kept calling more Kazaa ready to win now. I mean they are one of the. In the desert and I've already seen among some of our cognitive senti. They're one of the favorites. They're one of the top five or six favorites to go win the whole thing and I don't think that's a crazy when you have economic I don't think it's great. I also think of other years where they're the favorites because they're Dallas and it's presumed that they'll roll into the NFC title game I mean they've found a way to not do that for twenty plus years in a row, but. What could go wrong? All right. Man You do not like Mike McCarthy. No I like that's more of a the cowboys have view themselves as a super bowl team since one hair and all of a sudden. You know Mike McCarthy. No. Really wanted to get deep into it. You could almost read this. You always mentioned the the epiphany in the off season pr that he did I mean if I'm out there in Tom and I'm Tom Pal Sarah and we know he doesn't listen to our podcast, but if he did. who kind of put together the biggest piece about McCarthy I might take some offense. That you're coming after my work well, that is not true, but if you WANNA fire back, oh, look at anything. I've written for the site over the last three months I mean what is talk about unnecessary fluff. Mark very hard on himself to just I. You know I look. I question the nature of You know sitting around in your phone reading eight thousand hours of sports articles right now, but people in different situations, so that's fair. I've also moved on piffle. Wise I am now all on the Baker Mayfield. I'M NOT GONNA. Talk Trash anymore epiphany. Epiphany I'm for now we move in silence. He's going to like he's gotTa like show up the game or buddy. Like, a Ninja outfit on in just little small letters, silence on his right move onto the next part of the show. Whatever you guys said cooked up all right. Let's spin the wheel. It is time to the wheel of teams, which is our weekly deep dive into one team in our league. It started off with the Arizona cardinals. Last week. We had our buddy. Bob, Glauber talk the New York giants and now Ricki Hall, and Hey Ricky. How are you by the way? How are you? I'm okay. How are you is what? Hartley. Dykes the the former Patriots first round receiver. Yeah, no such a boss. Right Ricky I heard. There's there's demonstrations going right outside your window to. In helicopters going on, I, just got a notification. That curfew went from six to five PM. About five minutes. The helicopters are unnerving, so there's helicopters the entire day nonstop La yesterday from the morning until about ten thirty PM. It went away and then they were back around five five thirty, and I was like we're in the morning today I was like we're doing this again, but. For the most part they've left. Yeah, it's scary out there so. Stay Safe Ricky Hollywood We're going to spin the wheel and find out which team we will be diving deeper on on Wednesday show Erica. Are we ready? "Thirty, five for three, forty eight. He just destroyed us. And then I went on a walk them in Minnesota without knowing who well watch them, you know, take you know. Take a team to the playoffs that they your to whatever it was, and then have that terrible injury, and I think if anything you know about Teddy, just just go back and watch the game. He comes back and finally plays watch teammates. You know I'm a big statistics guy. I'm a big analytics guy and they're really important, but they only tell about half the story. The best players in the world bring up best in teammates and I can tell you since free agency started the amount of guys. WanNa come WANNA play with Teddy has nothing to do with me as nothing do with. They want to be a part of eastern doing because he brings out the best in people to watch wit. Brief stint whatever the jets watch what he did New Orleans last year, and so we're getting ready to play George in the Chicago practicing at the Saints Facility and he's out there by himself with a couple of guys. He's still in red zone route to drew's GonNa. Start he's the backup late. I think it's you know dame for the playoffs. And watching them throw them. Watch the way people respond. I have no idea I'm GONNA be in Carolina and we start a little jog through taekwondo. Words is great, young receiver for us. From Miami and Teddy walks through our practice. He walks over to says hello to him now. Maybe eight years older than him and he's talking to them. Shopping incomes comes over, and he's like Hey, coach, interrupt rupture walk through I sat there and told him I said he just wants to. How much respect I F you having coached against you having seen what you've done haven't seen the way people respond you man I. I wish you the best so you fast for a couple of months, and we have a chance to get him here. I believe so wholeheartedly, and he is as a quarterback I believe in his abilities. Leave his arm strength that we've in his accuracy, his decision making. Beyond that? It's GonNa make everyone else that much better. That coach that's. All right question for you. We're sold. Here's my question for you because I just wonder from. You've come to the NFL. People talk about the lack of experience on the coaching staff. which I think you kind of have said, forget all that business we're going. We're going to attack the way we do everything else, but it is. Is it a bit of a mental polar shift to have your mind occupied with like? How do we shut down a sophomore? Three technique from Rice University to? To now in the middle the night you're thinking. We've got drew brees to deal with. We've got a Matt Ryan to deal with Oh and by the way they Tom. Brady is going to leave the golf course at some point, be shoved into a bucks jerseys. The NFC south stacked isn't is it for you just starting to gain plan for these guys watching for so long at all? Striking mentally are a challenge. Well I mean you know take out the XS and os mean drew brees and Tom Brady. In Matt Ryan Aren't Great. Because of just the XS and os I mean.

"More than to walk around my own music. Matt, it's even in the best of times. Being Rookie NFL head coach is a challenge, but it seems like you're entering the picture at a particularly fraught time. You're entering a division that has a perennial super bowl contender favorite in the saints, all of a sudden Tom Brady's in the mix and Gronk. You have no traditional offseason activities and. The organization decided to move on from the most popular successful player in history in Cam Newton in franchise history. This is a challenge I know you just rebuilt bell from the ground up, but this one. This one feels like a tough one. What are your thoughts? You. Know I'm excited about it. You know. I mean it's not like I. I didn't walk is wide open in terms of hated. There's things we have to do, but I'll even. Now now it's it's not but don't let. that. These these these this adversity, these obstacles. They forced you to try to be at your best I. Know this I know myself as a head coach. Mike System coaches being in the virtual aussies I think we're better teachers now than we were a month ago I think being home and being like head teaching. My kids as made me a better teacher that I was a month ago or two months ago, so just trying to take the positives out of it not worry too much about the negatives. I some home-schooling tips from you then. I don't know if they've gotten any better. Out caster to tell you that. I I wonder maybe Teddy Bridgewater is one of the guys you met. Maybe not I wanted to ask you about him. Because these clowns on the on the other side of the screen for me, they'd like to make their little jokes about Teddy. They talk about his air yards per attempt i. mean they like him as a person but. Not as exciting as a quarterback to explain to me why you guys wanted to bring him in Saudi was a fit for your system. Yet you know. I had a chance to coach against Teddy. My first year at Temple actually put the stats. The other day for our team was like twenty, five,.

There's a lot of stuff going on the world right now. He was on Jackson on the Lane Johnson podcast outside the lane. Get it. And he talked about what something what something that the NFL could do to juice, the telecast and the event that there is no crowd to add that adds that natural excitement. Here's what D- Jacks had to say. I think they should mike up players. They should give fans the insight to see what really goes on between the lines. It gets crazy. "But he was also solution driven in the solution. Driven is kind of. What I talked about on the small-scale. Talking to your kids. You're talking. About are talking to your kids about when you see something wrong like your friends avoiding another little black kid because he's a black kid, go play with. You know to stick things that are far more macro than Josh mccown, other member of the players coalition, and of course, a white quarterback who's been very active for years talking about a black people walk around life with a weighted vest. Right whereas he do this great comparison screen analogy as to. He said he said a different offensive coordinator every year this, what nineteen twenty or NFL career, so he was always learning new offenses while the incumbent quarterback new. The offense was preparing defense, so that person had a lega. Racist White America has always been that incoming quarterback. You can, you can attack the opposing defense. You have that leg-up. Were Black. Folks are the guy coming in just just trying to figure out. How to navigate enough to survive. and Michael Robinson very passionate. We had some great conversations about Brian floors in his message. And how at only was the inspiring, but I would call it out. People who were awfully noisy during capper nick. Of his colleagues. In, how had two separate lose friendships? Because where are you now? Some of his bosses I think was a subtext that I read into it. Maybe yeah very very much so very much so and isn't it interesting? How some of those boxes its players? You are no longer. There are being far more outspoken about subjects like this than they ever were kind of makes you think. Well it. Dan where we are going to spend two two other NFL news, but it is interesting because people say when they stick the sports, it's like. This sports because all the coaches and players. They're dealing with this today. Frank Reich. You know he had a statement to the media, but he talked about what he talked about the plate. It's like there's no avoiding. This is what the coaches are talking about is what the owners whether they're releasing a statement or not. It's like this is that they're having to handle it. It's not like there's a choice to go run and hide when that's your when that's your workforce. View avoid it. You're losing your guys. You avoid it. By. And Steven Oh you're gonNA. Continue to be part of the conversation NFL network this week, so make sure everybody you follow along for those important conversations Steve would you mind sticking around for the rest of the news which I wouldn't say, it was at the same level of importance, but it's pretty close. George Kill doesn't have a new contract yet, so maybe we should talk about that as well always love hanging out with you guys. All right. This is what's going on in the kind of news of the NFL We'll start with Mike Silver. Mike Silver NFL network reports that the forty niners and George kibble tight end quote far apart in extension talks we'll see. What happens with this, but Steve. I mean kindle is. One of those dudes, those dudes. You absolutely build a team around and Austin Hooper I. Believe Mark Is Austin. Hooper is now the highest paid tight end in the league, and I believe the agent said I don't care about the tight end market. I'm being paid to do a George kiddle deal. He will be expensive couldn't afford it on his afford him I guess that becomes the biggest question. Yes, looked at clear. A lot of cap space is one of the reasons why they traded to force buckner. We're seeing the same thing George kill that we saw Jimmy Gram. Tight end but I got wide receiver numbers. You say I don't block in line. So I'm a wide receivers. Give me that wide receiver money. You know that Big Stefan digs in los sixteen seventeen million dollar numbers. And, You know the course that went to arbitration. Whatever Jimmy Graham was tight, end and George closing to get tight end, but. They're going to have to pay him, and this is one. They've already got their quarterback on a big contract. You know they've got a couple other big deals, but you can finesse. You can work these numbers. This is what wide receivers making big. What offenses skilled player other than Jimmy? GAROPPOLO's making money. Not Right, you can work this. You know you've got. You Know D.. Ford in. You've got some other defensive players making big bread. Just pay Derek Armstead. Quite. Alexander's making money, but play that franchise tag game which killed him? Oh, go! hedmark well I would just say I mean the concept of back pay. This is a player who has given you one hundred seventy plus catches over the past two seasons, twenty three hundred yards, ten touchdowns and mates injured. His right made seven hundred nineteen thousand dollars last year. The Jimmy Graham comparison is is so apt and. You look when you go into the pro football focus and you dig into the positions. Nothing is weirder than the tight end position because the rankings are all out of whack because we've dealt with this before you get one Gebran. Really well, but he had eight catches all season anything heartache. And Heart sock the number one tight end when you're, there are distinctly two different. Jimmy Graham played the different version of Titan George kiddle plays it times too i. mean he has a better argument to make? an incredible paycheck based on what they've given him for what he's produced while. No, he's he's a fascinating case of you're into contract because he should be making more than Julio, Jones I mean he should be making double. What probably the highest paid and to me? Not a great comparison. Really I understand at the time. It was like an argument, but Titans are so underpaid if they're as good as George Kitto. Who's who can change a whole offense? In terms of the the the the of the know what you're going to do on a play to play basis he such a good blocker, such a good receiver that. Of course to me, he's worth as much as an AJ Greener Julio Jones and that's almost double. WHAT ANY TIGHT END IS MAKING! I really think like tight end to just be pissed at Rob Gronkowski for the contract that he signed early in his career I know he did it with two years left his rookie deal, but titans have been underpaid ever since because he took a totally below market deal for his entire career, and he's the greatest tight end of all time, and everyone else got stuck. Just being like. Wow, you're not as good as Gronk so you're getting slotted under that like Kitto, and I think he's GonNa. Try, IT IS GONNA. Be. On Bell unsuccessfully did for running backs, which is just blow up the entire market for tight ends, 'cause they're all underpaid. In these trying times everybody together now. Everything's Bella checks fault. Your love this, this is your favorite. subplot. Hey. We mentioned Matt Rule is going to be on the show. Today was actually an interview. We did Friday for the around the NFL broadcast and NFL network which Steve Why steal it? All ties together sat in last week. Chris wesseling pregnancy chair Although you didn't? Why? Apple signs a one year three million dollar deal. It went nearly two months between when Apple's deal with the raiders fell apart at the beginning of free agency, and actually seventy one days until you've agreed to terms with the raiders so more than two months. And this was. With the panthers. This is a spot marks Tessler that Carolina needed help at Apple's not a big star, despite being first round pick, but he should bring something to that group..

And so to me. By having. Legitimate. Who Do I look up to to aspire to? and so I think that's where it starts and I also think. Guys like you and other people in the league just in private conversations. Someone's dropping in bombed or saying. This net gotta can't believe. These people are are breaking up buildings. Here's why they're breaking buildings. 'cause, this is the twelve million time we've seen this in nothing is happening. We've got your freaking attention. It may not be the positive attention made up. Be The thing that honors. To know the problem with the police state that black people have in this country, the new thing is cellphones really and in hopefully a new generation Kind of speaking up, but I do think the NFL's in. In an interesting place, because a capper nick and we talked about on the podcast then how? Him Not coming back into the. League. And everything that they went to. You even knew then. Look! He's going to be one of the most important NFL. Figures we've ever covered in. You knew that you knew that then. And that's growing even more so now. I do think it is interesting. To think about where at least the League was publicly then and a lot of white people frankly were publicly then where it's like there was a lot of division even among the owners of. Coaches of how we're GONNA handle this and a lot of a lot of teams did not want their players neely and we remember that and a lot of coaches and then different ones wanted to do it in certain ways. Okay, you can do it wants if it's with the honor, and then that's that's it whereas I think today, you're seeing at least publicly more of a rush to with a lot of them to. Embrace the right message of fighting police brutality. Publicly and and I do wonder if like. And you see a little bit more with white players speaking up like white quarterbacks. I'm, new, grant. and. Of course, you can say a lot of pr in this or that, but cabernet helped open that that space and that change, and even even the the social justice initiatives of the NFL has done like that that is I think a reflection, so it does put the NFL and in this interesting spot, even compared to other leagues I think of. What happens from here, but I would say this. Remain Shameful What happened to the Colin. Kaepernick message what it was about and what it got turned into by. People unwilling or unable to embrace it more unwilling, and if anything, when I mentioned that I think there is a bit of a polar shift that we've now seen it with our own eyes, and we cannot deny it. And it's not new. It's been going on for a long time. Cabernet! Is validated entirely by this, and I will not listen to anyone. With a different take on that I mean in the League should realize. That it could have been handled completely differently from the start. Yeah so we'll continue obviously to talk about this and talk about it from an angle, and however we feel like is important and and Steve. You're at my last thing I was just thinking about with capture. Nick was I think it was last November the workouts for Copper Nick Had A public workout for NFL teams. It reminds me that he at least what we hear is still wants to be an NFL quarterback. And how many years has it been since he played now? Where do we? "Complied he had a criminal background. There was always something to give somebody peace of mind why murdering an unarmed black man was justified. There's no way you could look at that. When you saw this man lifeless body on the ground for three minutes. And smug Derek Shaw would his knee on his neck and his hand in his pocket. Seemed to be dislike. Thinking about planes, taking off or sunsets Jamaica while this man's air is being lost in his body. That, you could sit by and be okay with that the aftermath. With these provocateurs and agitators, vandalizing breaking windows and looting, taking away from the positive protesters is a sad. But people like me had enough had enough. This comes on the heels of Ahmad Armory in. Riyadh Taylor were so many people are in my opinion, participating in cover-ups saying well, you know that's just another black body gone, and that's what people wanna say. Black lives matter mean that's what it means that they're superior to anybody else, but that they actually mean something. Many overall landscape and again. That's why this. Is Different. We'll see if anything comes out of it. They've already changed the out of the prosecutor in Minnesota no faith in this person. To actually go after these police officers. It's already out of his hand so I salute to that, but in all these other stage where this craft is going on is still going on the cover up. Of. The actual ugly act. That's what needs to start as people need to start being held accountable. Yes Steve I. I love the way you just expressed all that and. I I. Think we're all in one similar boat where you know we're. We're at a time where. Were housebound. For many reasons and you know the fact that corona virus. has been buried as a B. storyline because this is. Much more striking more critical to who we are as people and you know I am in a state where I'm just sort of observing. Trying to make. To listen to make sense of it all but I feel like what I've watched over the past three or four days that. Like nothing in our country will ever be the same, and that's a good thing. I'm thankful in for one thing that that video was captured because without it. I think it would've just been another. Hideous incident. That sale down the river without much notice. Because it was captured because we because anyone with with a beating heart inside of them are horrified by what they saw. It forces us to confront, and frankly you know those of us with children. You typically maybe hide the rise from some of this in my my feeling is the opposite that if things are going to change, it starts with. The people inside our own home seen. How how wrong things are in Hal as you said corrupt? The system is from the deepest levels outward and so. Total Change from here on out in should be serve as an eye-opener unless you are walking around as a total Zombie. And, that's you said Mark you know. Nothing will ever be the same that that to me is when I look at the big picture all this. To me, the jury's out on it and I really hope this is the catalyst. And this will be different than the other times, and it does feel different. We're old enough all enough to remember the La Riots in ninety two but this seems like and there is a call for not just to be a black and people of color, speaking out, but white, America also getting behind this cause and I feel like that's different to you. Sense that as well will be enough to to spark real change, and on the on the subject Steve of the NFL, the NF obviously has. A seat a chair in the history of all this going in recent history about the idea of police, brutality and social injustice and Colin Kaepernick, who who seems to becoming a bigger and bigger figure in American history by the day especially now it almost feels like what he was doing when he was kneeling, was pression, and it was in a way that was clouded by all the political stuff and all the. The trump stuff now it's so clear it should be at least what that was all about. It wasn't about not being good and American about. Hey, this this is going on this stuff and now maybe Steve What with the advances in camera phones, and the fact that people are getting more and more fed up not just black people that it's going to lead to a real change. The the Cabernet side of it. How do you think the NFL side of it? Steve like they released a statement obviously doesn't get received well. The greater public because a lot of the greater public believes that the NFL did not do right by capper. Nick on the issue and hasn't done enough. To support causes of related to social injustice, how do you think the NFL a beyond a press release? SAYING THAT WE'RE GONNA. Continue to work with groups can actually make positive change and not just positive words on a press release while I'm in look, it's it's. It's accountability. That's you know like you. I'm with you, Dan! What he said. We'll see if it makes change because we've heard this before. Remember Twenty Sixteen four years ago today election cycle. Would con- cabinet took a knee because you had. All of the all the armed black people with previous couple years. You know Tim your rice and Michael Brown and everybody getting killed. We're still here man so in terms of the NFL. To me starts in their own house in look. I'm going to air a little dirty laundry, but it is what it is. Yes, right number, one manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao has won eight division world championships. Twelve different titles. Eight divisions. He's also a singer joy. Yes, he has released three albums and two other singles, not an album and oh yes. He's currently a Philippine senator serving a six-year term until two thousand twenty two, so he's the most. Accomplished fighter! A singer with albums. And a senator in the Philippines. That's that's called versatility. How about Shohei Otani of the angels. He is a pitcher for them. and. He's a designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels. He joined Babe Ruth Yes. That's how far you have to go back babe. Ruth is the only player in Major League baseball history. With ten pitching appearances and twenty home runs in a single season. That's incredible, right? We get that that's incredible. I would say cuyler Murray. Who I think's the best athlete in the NFL. So, he was a top ten pick in the major league draft, and he was the number one pick in the NFL draft, and you can tell me how great Lebron is. Lebron played high school. Football didn't even play college football. This kid was a top ten pick in both the NFL and Major League Baseball, and the as for the record still retain his right to be ever wanted to go back to baseball, so he is a these the best athlete in the NFL. How about Portland's own Damian Lillard? Not only a five time all star. What are the great shot makers in the last ten years in the NBA? Have you need a bucket? They're not a Lotta guys. Damian Lillard is behind. But. He does also like a legitimate hip hop artist by the name of Dala. I'm going to give you a sample. A lot of guys think they're hip hop artists. "Your credit. Learn more at discover dot com slash credit scorecard limitations do apply We are waiting for Herm Edwards. The Arizona State Sun Devils head coach, ed eight wins last year was the. Most Games. They'd one in six years. Herbs and interesting cat great motivational speaker. Had? A lot of success with the New York. Jets Three playoff appearances. He went to Kansas City I coach. The franchise history a Kansas City to make the playoffs in his initial season. He was a former player in the PAC twelve. I was stunned I. Remember when he took the job and I I had a friend inside the athletic department I'm like. Does herm. He hasn't been around the college game I mean. D- D-. Does he have an understanding? Of the recruiting and all, but it's funny Pete Carroll. When he came to USC, I remember being on a plane in Mexico with a buddy. And we were laughing at the move like they just had Paul Hackett. He was an NFL guy well. Why are they going after NFL guys? I didn't think Pete. Carroll is GonNa make I said he does he know how to recruit? He's out in the East Coast, Herm, Edwards was out in the east coast and he's been. He's really been quite a success for Arizona State. He's very good in the room. The players love him. He's built a really really good recruiting staff. They've rebuilt the stadium in Tempe and a herm. Edwards is joining me. There are few people I've ever worked with that have left more of an imprint, common indelible imprint on watching him lead watching him talk. He's an entertainer. And this is one of the reasons. Arizona State's recruiting has been unbelievable. By the way you know. We're talking about all these quarterbacks. They got a kid named Jaden Daniels play last year as a true freshman, all folks. In about two years Jaden Daniels, will not this trap a two drafts from that as a true junior Jaden Daniels. Maybe the number one player picked by the way Herm as a defensive guy. How did you convince? A unbelievable quarterback to come to your defensive in running program. How'd you do that? L. This is where you have to make him understand. That is any head coach. He's only as good as a quarterback has. Just guide that just left the New England Captain America Guy Yeah. His coaches the the guy. Right you once told me herm. You said I remember this. We were ESPN together New said Colin. If I'd had a healthy quarterback I wouldn't be broadcasting sitting next to you. I'd be in the League you. You had a lot of success. You know it's funny. Because here comes the draft and I liked Joe Borough. He's a nice player, but good God. The LSU team was loaded. I like to, but there's the injury, but I wanNA. Talk About Justin Herbert. You've faced him twice and you gave him fits. Boy in Tempe it was a mess for him. You're intercepted four times in two games one one. You lost one, but let's go back to this. You brought NFL concepts to the College Game Arizona State. What did you throw at Justin? Herbert? That both times confused him well. I think you know all quarterbacks Their ability to read your mail. Before pre snap. Help them. we try to disguise coverage on. gave him. Some different looks up front. Four statements force them into some meltdowns to as well Colin, you know. When I when I think the known downs. In division where he has to throw some yeah. and. What we've been. Fortunate up early in. The game we bought question. and. That got him uncomfortable a little bit I think the guy has tremendous skillset, big and strong athletic. I thought we saw his athleticism roles. Yes, yes, when he ran. You know people can run that good. He can run. You can avoid got a strong arm you know, but but the colony logos and I've said this many a time when I was on. Your show is back in the worldwide leader that both quarterback system needs. Ninety percent of them league. Yeah, and I think we're ever. These guys go with his job girl with her love, with Herbert with his to. What? What what? The, are the coordinators or the quarterback coach willing to build a system around the kids skill set because if they're not gonNA fail the prime examples. Say What you want. Is the got. It plays for the rams now. All of a sudden. The skillset. And Development that guy was built around what he could do well. Yeah, it's first couple of years. Everybody did this guy's buck. Well all that he comes in he in. A little bit around with this guy to do pretty good quarterback. Right. Yeah he does a jared. Goff of course, a very beautiful beautiful got a lot of Matt Ryan qualities. He tells an incredibly catchable ball. Probably a better long ball than Matt Ryan hasn't become a very very good quarterback. So. When you look at this draft, you were a defensive guy. You are a very good corner in the NFL and college, so that would lead me to believe boy. If he was running to franchise the jets and the chiefs. He would know defensive guys, but then I think you faced offensive guys, so maybe you're better at knowing offensive guys when you were with the chiefs and the jets. What did you feel most comfortable drafting? Well. I kind of in a position because I came into lead. As a part time coach but a scout. So. I learned how to evaluate players. And the first thing I did I remember going to training camp with the chiefs. My first time there Howard mudd was the offensive line coach weight off into line. And do enough.

"You'll have your team logo. Somebody start designing those merchandise. That's our new normal. Okay with it. You know things change. You have to adjust his lungs. We're doing everything we can to be smart and healthy and be mindful of others like you said. If you see someone walking on the sidewalk, just walk over a couple of feet. Yes, don't be a jerk, just his or both of you. It's not just for you, so it is interesting. We just had John Middlekauff often the the the the most pick on the draft of the dolphins. They have fourteen picks. The Miami Dolphins are GONNA. Have a very good draft. Okay, they had a lot of cap space. They had a very good free agent situation. They got Byron Jones Van Noy. So Miami is GonNa win the draft. Because, they're going to have fourteen picks and they're gonNA. Get on. A bunch of them are early, so Miami's going to win the draft. The raiders won last year's draft. Some of it is because they drafted their but off. Some of it is because they're bad and could could play guys, but this is what's interesting. So during Super Bowl Week I had a dinner with an NFL Exac, and he said Oh. My God you just don't understand. You gotta deal with the owner. You gotTA deal with players calling it three in the morning. I gotTA deal with agents. He said it would just be nice to watch tape. He goes, but when you're a general manager in the NFL, it is your are the principal of the high school. You gotta deal with the students. You gotta deal with the coaches. You gotTA deal you get. The phone calls in the middle of the night, so general managers. This is the most underrated part about being general manager. You gotTA deal with a billionaire owner, and they're impatient and they're mavericks, and they think they know it all your babies and they often have multiple kids you're dealing with, and it's hard to be a general manager. You get the phone calls. I mean. You would not believe what general manager have told me they deal with. It's it is a psychologist era therapist. You're a scout. You're a CEO and sometimes you get calls in the owners in a bad mood. Mike may didn't have to deal with that for the last six seven years. Mike Mayock just watched film. He was the NFL networks NFL GM. He was there scout guy? And this is what happened with Pete Carroll Pete Carroll's at USC. So he's living in recruiting all these players. And so pete gets a job with the Seattle seahawks in Pete, Carroll's first three drafts. He aced. because. He knew of these players. He ended up getting guys like Malcolm Smith. In the seventh round. Who became a super bowl, VP? In the seventh round Jr swayze second-round started he Russell Wilson in the third round. He got K J. Right in the fourth retired Sherman and the Kam Chancellor in the fifth. Pete's I. Three drafts are the stuff legend, or made of now since then he's had more whiffs. He hasn't been able to get those six round stars although they did a good job at running back with a Carlson, the kid from Oklahoma state. But the point being is. Pete's proximity to the college game all those recruits I mean he went out. He recruited Bruce. Irvin, you know He. He saw tape of Russell Wilson. He you know He. He coached against Richard. Sherman. That's why he knew him. At Stanford it's a huge edge will think about Mike May Alter the raiders. He was essentially a general manager for the NFL network he was there scout guide. That's what he did, but he didn't have to get. The phone calls at three in the morning didn't have to deal with a needy owner and the owners, Kids and a coaching staff that he had to fire three years in and agents and free agents. He have to deal with any of it, so Mac walks into the NFL with all these years of experience and total utter focus on tape. And he goes out last year, and the raiders were able to get a receiver in the fifth round. who was a home run hundred fro, a tight end in the fourth round, who was the highest gritted rookie tight end according to pro football, focus a defensive end in the fourth round that had ten sacks the second most by a rookie. The. Trayvon Molin in the second round Josh was a home run late in the first round. People thought on not sure if that's a good move, so it is I think you know Bill Bella check is very good acquiring NFL players. But Bill Belichick with a lot in the draft. Why because on Saturday night bill bell checks not watching Clemson against Boston College. He's not watching. Oregon Arizona State. Mike mayock that's all he did for several years and I do think now I think some of that advantage will wear off a little bit, but I think it's a real thing. I. I think you can look at guys who are in the college space. They go to the NFL in the first few years. I've never looked at Nick Saban's first couple of drafts for Miami. My guess is they'd be pretty good. Golick Jimmy Johnson was a college coach goes to the NFL. Engineers Trades Golick Jimmy Johnson's first several drafts of the Dallas cowboys. He had all that college information. He took it to the NFL. He nails his drafts. So I didn't look at savings this morning. We probably should his first do drafts with Miami. Probably pretty good. He was at, Lsu. He knew all those players. I did think it was interesting. Peter King's column. Peter King's column. He had a small nugget nugget in his weekly column for NBC. He said the Patriots Love Justin Herbert, but probably not enough to trade out for them. Arrival General Manager told Peter King. I would like to say one thing about just in her. If you do a deep dive on the Oregon Program Mario. Cristobal is the coach for a couple years. Mario's an offensive lineman. That's his smile's. Very, Glib very verbal, very good recruiter. Good in the room offensive lineman. What do they do when they.

"We are. Are we are about halfway through this thing in terms of forget the economy about the waves vaccines, and that we got a long way to go but I am seeing people stay at home. We are seeing a decline sharply and hospitalizations and the need for ICU beds shockingly, so in places like Florida, but you know this is the land of the free man it. You're going to get some pushback from the peeps and it's getting warmer. People want to be outside and people want to go to work and make money. Here's joy Taylor with the news go. Heard on the news. This is the third line news. Was We know the Bengals have the top pick in this year's NFL draft and head coach Zach Taylor doesn't see scenario right now where they trade out of that top spot. There that you believe in. That can really change the franchise over the next ten fifteen years. then. That's a hard thing to pass up on people. All the time asked me. What would it take to give up that pick? And if there's somebody there that people are willing to go a lot for that, they believe, and that really verifies, but we think about those players as well. Have somebody offered him. If Miami's said, we've got fourteen pigs. Here's ten of them. I mean you've got to be A. You have to take phone calls, but they're not moving, but you have to take the call. No I do think you have to take the call. It looks he's right. If you believe in Joe Borough truly then there's there's really no. Draft or trade package. That's going to be more appealing than Joe. Because you need that position. You need that guy and you're in the position to take that guy without making any move, so they truly believe in him. Of course you shouldn't move you. Take the call, but. I don't know this could be away to drive up the price for Joe Boroughs well if they're still interested in possibly moving off of him, I don't have a lot of faith that there's going to be any movement at that position. Obviously, we all kind of agreed that the dolphins are really the only team that are in the position to make a trade phone call like that, and it would have to be a hall, and if the Dolphins don't believe one thousand percent. Percent that job is a guy. That trade is not a good trade for the dolphins, either although I, think it is so Dwayne Haskins has struggled in his rookie season, and with the second pick in the draft, Washington could make a surprise move and take one of the top quarterback prospects, but when Safety Lynton Landon. Collins was asked if he would want to on his team. He stood by Haskins and he doesn't want the team to give up on. HIM REJECTED A. quarterback last year I think to be a great aspect team, but you only have one I think we should. Keep the guy we have now but I ask because I mean. He's twenty when he's prepared and he knows what he has to. He's he's. He's gunslinger. Push downfield through. He'd make a place. Next plasticized. Give give Haskins a year, and if it's not fair at this point Wayne Haskins said what how many star seven I forgot. How many starts is he had got to give him you gotTA. You gotTA. Give them more than although the Arizona didn't give Josh Rosen many starts well, that's my point I. Think Arizona kind of set a very interesting tone for the rest of the NFL, but it's. It's not really the end of the world. If you have taken a player quarterback in the top ten, and you don't think he's the guy. Dude again and I'm not really against that I. Mean I thought Josh Rosen kind of got a bad deal there? But you know they're happy with. Calorie looks like he's going to be end up being a great player for them if they make all the right moves and put put pieces around him, so the quarterback position is just too important. You have to get the guy if that means. You got to drop the guy three years in a row. That's what you gotta do. Because until you have that guy, it really doesn't matter what you do with the rest of the team. You can have all the talent there in the world. World if you don't have the guy the quarterback position, you're going to have a great team and you're only gonNA. Go so far as we know, so I'm not against that I. Don't know that I've seen anything from Haskins. That makes me feel like he's the guy. Maybe that's unfair and he doesn't need another year and Washington's in a unique position to have a little wiggle room with with the Rivera there. He's not worried about losing his job. You have a little bit of time with the fans and a little bit of patients there and then obviously, we're all dealing with the situation with the pandemic. That's going to you know. Give two teams like Washington a little bit more more space. To make those decisions, but I I would not be against them taking a quarterback again I mean, if nothing else, trade him so I don't know if I've seen enough from Haskins, speaking of that chase young as wildly considered to be the best player in this year's draft and his former, Ohio state teammate Nick Bosa expects big things from young at the next level, both said I think he'll be defensive right of the year next year, or even more I think he's potentials as good as anybody's just with this physical attributes. It's a little different playing. NFL tackles, but once he gets the hang of it. He's going to be the real deal. Young set the school record in two thousand, nineteen with sixteen and a half sacks. In a single season I pretty much, everyone feels like he's going to end up at Washington. Best Player in the job and that's the position Elton is in there. They also. They're already pretty good up front so Ron Rivera. I mean He. He draft chase young joy. He can go for the next seven years in DC and say I mean they. They're defensive. Front is the best part of that team, and it's going to get significantly better so if you have Carson Wentz and Dak in your division and Daniel Jones, and they can all move little. Washington saying. We got the guy who can chase them. Right and this is a position that you can take that kind of risk on like. That's a big. High impact player position, and he is like I said considered to be the best player in the draft. I'm really looking forward to seeing seeing what he does in the NFL, because he is so highly praised, and he's just an electric player to watch Ohio state guys, let's be honest. They're usually good in the NFL Ohio. State guys over deliver Michael Thomas Lattimore Golick around the NFL right now a lot of Buckeyes they they. They don't have as a maybe. I'm just recent memory. Maybe it's confirmation bias but Ohio state top picks the Bozos they work. A lot a lot of speed and a lot of talent you have. joy with news. Well. That's the news and thanks for stopping by. Heard I if you really listen to people carefully, sometimes, you don't have to say much. To say everything? Matt rules the new coach of Carolina. "Ways some dramatically. So if you're a team, say New, York or team in Carolina you're going to be affected. Indifference different scenarios and there's different. Restrictions for each state so in order to make it fair for everyone you can't have you know a team in a state where there are much more lax rules for gatherings than for others so basically they just put together a blanket virtual program. Everyone right and you know everyone's going to have to deal with the same circumstances. As far as that goes good stuff, joy Taylor with news. Well, that's the news. Thanks for stopping by. Heard, thirty minutes from now my mock draft I'll do the top twelve picks it so much fun doing this. Plus after our mock draft at the next hour, rams going to get all our hall of fame, votes left tackle. Andrew Whitworth very smart guy. Former lsu tigers going to be joining us his thoughts on what's going to be at tremendous offensive tackle class? People are saying six tackles taken first round four could be taken in the top twelve fifteen picks with that Peter Schrager, joining us now sponsored by Mercedes Benz the best or nothing. I said this to start. My Show Joe Berlinger compared yesterday by boomer. Assias Lebron James. He's being compared to Joe Montana, Peyton, manning and I think it's ridiculous I don't think he's physically elite. I think he's got smaller hands in average arm. I think he's going to be a nice quarterback, but he's also going to an organization that doesn't win in division with great owners and great coaches and great rosters. That is hard to dig yourself out from so when you talked all your sources shrugs Are they more. This kid's going to be a legend or they closer to me. He'll be a nice NFL player. They're saying he's the cleanest wide receiver. Prospect I'm sorry, quarterback prospect in this draft, but I talked to one coach. I like Tyler Murray more and I thought another Trevor Lawrence more so every year. You can have a Lebron James it's not like Lebron James Generational, but that said what lebrons did for the city of Cleveland Lebron Business State of Ohio I similarly off the field, but no Joe Boroughs Not Andrew. Andrew Locker John elway Joe, boroughs, not Manning, or at least he's not viewed that way as a draft prospect coming out that said he can do something for that market, and for that franchise that would put him in that status. The bengals suddenly became a team that Wins Playoff Games and challenges for division titles, and who knows eventually gets to a super bowl again. Then Joe Borough is in that conversation and. And boomer assassin comparison to Lebron would be what he did for the city, of Cleveland, but no it. This isn't some superhuman athletes, and it certainly isn't the best quarterback prospect we've seen in recent years, but to yesterday Nick Sabin said listen he the reason he gets hurt. He is a playmaker. And I'm sitting there, thinking as great as Brett Farve was he. His default mechanism was great arm. It's going to. To Save the day, people are what they are, and when a pocket collapses, quarterbacks do what they do. It's innate it in their DNA forbes arm got him in a lot of trouble got him out of a lot of trouble. Is it possible to people you talk to worry that to? This is who he is. He gets hurt because he. He sees himself as a playmaker. That's his. That's his default move. Colin I. Haven't said this anywhere, almost been waiting to say to you, and it's nothing against the kid, but the more I look into to with these teams as we get closer to the draft. More of the teams that have quarterbacks that I wouldn't go to say well, what do you mean? This corona virus situation put such a red flag on the injuries. And then you start wondering. He's six feet tall. You know he's got four NFL wide receivers out there. He's got a Jack Wills going to be a top ten NFL ticket tackle. He's got to save and he's got to be. Everyone's picking apart to a right now, and there's no way for to to really answer those critics because they can't get him in the room, so you're doing stuff over skype as opposed to getting a chance to actually work out to a chance. Chance to look at a pro day where you are present in a chance for your doctors to really check out I, would have said I. Haven't said anywhere yet. Everyone's got to on the top five and maybe six. The charger I think six where I would place some right now, but there is a chance to to takes a little slip in this thing, and it's because of the last two months. Not because of what he's all about her about his character, because these teams want WanNa. See Him up close, and it's a great great. To not be able to get your hands on to and have your doctors give him a personal physical and a personal medical examination in the weeks leading up to the draft I'm not sure where to a goes right now, and yes, he is a playmaker and he tries to make. But that's led to multiple ankle injuries that's led to a hip injury in a game that they were up by thirty point that there's questions of why he was even in the Game I. Don't Know Colin I was so high to a about a month ago, and I think a lot of teams were at the combine I'm not sure if this guy still looking at the same way as he was even three weeks ago. Wow, that's.
