"To a halt have Reality ended and late night talk shows are back, but when are we going to see those scripted shows return? Joining us live with the answer, I hope, is DV guides Matt Roush. Matt, how is the timetable shaping up for those scripted shows? Well, that's the question I get asked most often by the people who write in to me, the and situation? Here is a look at what's happening in late September. It's going to be being in mid -January, mostly in February first they've already announced that there are three law and order shows and there are three Chicago shows be back in mid January on on the 17th and 18th, and then for CBS, though, they're going to use the Super Bowl on February 11th as their launching pad, and that night they are premiering a new thriller show called Tracker, but after that on the Monday after the Super Bowl on the week of the 11th of February, you're going to get all those shows back. NCIS, the FBI shows, Young Sheldon for its final season, Blue Bloods for what's going to be its final season, but all those on other individual nights. It's going to be a big premier week for them in mid February. ABC is bringing most of its shows back in February. The comedies will first. show up I think Abbott Elementary will be back on February 7th, but we won't see Grey's Anatomy, one of their still long -running hit shows until mid March. If that's the timetable, they could probably still squeeze in 10 episodes. Most shows are going to have 10 to 13 episode seasons as opposed to the usual 22 or so because, of course, of the delay of the strikes. At least for half the season, you're going to get what seems like a TV season. But it's wait been a long for those people who like those shows on network TV. And so that essentially scraps the second half the of season, or would we see that mid -season happen in the summer? You think the summer's still going to be off? Yeah, pretty much so. I think the economics of it all and the fact that viewing habits really drop off during the summer. And when they put scripted shows on, people just don't tend to tune into networks. They've, of course, been conditioned to watch TV on their own timetable. So all bets are off, but pretty much they're only going to do like a half a season for most of these shows. Alright, TV Guide's Matt Roush, thanks so much for that info. As you said, a lot of people asking you when are the shows coming back? just We can safely say mid -February should start seeing things rolling. That's right. Be patient. They'll be back. Alright, thanks so much. And now a quick look at the top stories we're working on at WTOP. The exiting delays have picked up if you will around 123 around Tyson's corner and we're seeing the volume also increase 123 Route 7 as folks head to Tyson's and the surrounding areas of Galleria as well. Route 7 also a bit crowded in Leesburg and increased volume as you expect can around the outlets and 95 northbound remains jammed up leaving Fredericksburg. The delays continue all the way up through Aquia Harbor it opens up just a little bit but once you get to Dale City it's still very slow over the Occoquan Street to the Springfield Interchange. "Matt Roush our Sandy joined Kozel to talk to us about one big one that's starting up this weekend. This is an interesting one cuz you know CBS has a hole to fill after 60 minutes on Sunday so they're turning to their cable partner Paramount Network And we're getting the original Yellowstone series coming to CBS which it's a it's an interesting fit But it's also a weird fit because Yellowstone I've always described it as what Dallas would be like if Dallas had been made for HBO because it has such profane language and and very graphic sexual stuff going on in it It's like that Doesn't just fit the CBS brand as we know it so we don't know how much bleeping is gonna go on whether the character of Beth played by Kelly Riley this ferocious daughter of Kevin Costner whether she will sound like she's talking in Morse Code because they're gonna bleep her so often I can't quite fathom it but nonetheless it's happening starting this weekend and so they're gonna start from the very beginning of Yellowstone they say that 80 % of the CBS audience has yet to see this show which seems a bit surprising but nonetheless if it's new to you it's on CBS on Sunday and there's a lot of violence with that show too so it'll be interesting the way or how much of it they present to the general public do you think any other networks might try this hearing something that people had to pay for previously like we have Dancing with the Stars back on ABC yeah the fact that that is now going to be sharing both on ABC and Disney plus you will see more of that and you're seeing them reach across the pond to get things either from Canada or Europe to fill some of the slots the British version of ghosts is going to be airing after the US repeats of the US ghosts that's going to be happening later in the fall and yeah in terms of turning to their streaming services CBS is also going to later putting on episodes of SEAL team which used to air on the network and went to streaming and now it's back on network because like I said they got holes to fill okay what else is new coming up this week well two big franchises come this week at least one of them is new to TV but American Horror Story the grizzly show that's on FX comes back for a twelfth season and the twist here is that Kim Kardashian is going to be in it so that's both scary and campy and she's going to end the idea this episode is going to be more like a Rosemary's baby type of thing revolving around Emma Roberts so a lot of the familiar faces will be there but American Horror Story is calling themselves delicate this season which it never is and then on Friday Peacock gives us the Continental from the world of John Wick it does not star Keanu Reeves this is an origin story set in the 1970s about the hotel where all the assassins are and so if you know the John Wick series you can expect a lot of mayhem just don't look for John Wick it's going to be about the early version of the guy that Ian McShane plays in the movies. That TV guides Matt Roush. "Neutering and more, AWLA always is there to help. For more information about AWLA's many good works, visit AWLA .org. This is UTOP News. It's 5 15. Good Sunday morning. I'm Liz Anderson. Thanks for being with us. Hats off to TV Guide's Matt Roush, who joins us weekly, for still finding shows to recommend or talk about, even the though SAG and Rider strikes have production stopped, and he spoke with our Sandy Kozel and started update with an on those strikes. They are back talking, which is good news, because there was nothing happening for, you know, almost 100 days of the strike, and now it's gone into record -length territory. But they were at an impasse again, and the producers and studios nobody did any favors by putting their latest offer out publicly, breaking the media blackout, and the guilds looked at it as, you know, trying to work around the negotiators. So now they've hired a crisis firm to sort of set themselves straight. We'll see what happens, but something's got to happen pretty soon, because September after Labor Day was the time, if they don't start getting back to work pretty soon, we may not see anything until winter in terms of network -type television, or maybe even later, so I don't even know what the next season's going to look like, but it's pretty bleak right now, unless you have streaming services, because there's stuff still happening even before now Labor Day. And there's something there that you found that may be of interest to those who like a little dreamy romance on their screens. you know, Yeah, rom -coms are all over the place, they drop a couple a week everywhere, Hallmark Channel's full of them too, but this is different. Netflix On on Thursday, they're going to drop a show called Choose Love, and this is an interactive rom -com. They've done interactive programming before, but never in this genre. The idea here is that you've got your female hero here, and she's got several choices. Does she stay with her steady boyfriend? Does she go back to the one who got away? How about the rock star who's in the recording studio with her? What's she going to do with him? So, at certain points in the film, you know, it's going to pop up a the thing on screen and say, kiss him or don't kiss him or be honest with him or hide your secrets or whatever, and then you can take the story in the direction you want it to go and you'll see who she ends up with. I suppose if you don't like the way it goes time, one you can watch it again and take a different path. But it is an interesting idea about a way to get you engaged in the programming and they've done this with sort of like sci -fi and action programming before. I think Black Mirror had an episode like this too. But to do it with com a rom as something new, and again, you can choose your own ending. What romantic wouldn't like that? That's TV Guide's Matt Roush. It's back. Try the giant crab cake platter with a house -made kewpie sauce and Old Bay crispy fries at Silver Diner. It's lunch redefined. "-T furniture outlet dot com. OK, we are back with Matt Roush and we were talking about The Idol on HBO. Matt Yeah, it's a show about a pop star, sort of a Britney type pop star played by Johnny Depp's daughter, Lily Rose Depp, and she's had a breakdown and she's going to get back in the business, but she falls under the spell of the Svengali type sexually of Svengali, who is played by The Weeknd, the rapper The Weeknd, and they had to retool the show almost completely while they were in production. And some people who were screening it in the Cannes Film Festival thought that it was maybe even like softcore porn, very exploitative or very trashy. But then again, Euphoria made its bones by being so very shocking. It's so shocking what these young people do. So anyway, we'll see how the idol goes. But it is a red flag when critics aren't given advance look at a show. And with HBO, that's almost never happened. So we'll see what happens when the show starts on Sunday. Uh huh, okay. We'll check it out maybe. Alright, thank you very much, Matt. Oh, you bet. Thank you. TV Guide's Matt Roush. It's 1118. Traffic and weather on the 8th. Rob Stallworth in the WTOP Traffic Center. Heads up in Virginia on the Interloop as you leave the Springfield interchange headed toward Braddock Road. Watch out for the crash response headed to that location. I -95 Southbound, the heaviest delays as you approach Garrisonville and emerge from the express since the main lanes then delays continue south toward the Rappahannock River. Northbound I -95 off on the breaks and pockets of volume between Triangle and the Springfield Interchange with travel lanes open. No problems on I -395 up to and across the 14th Street Bridge. Traveling in Maryland, southbound BW Parkway south of Powder Mill Road headed toward NASA Goddard. till That's we where have the right lane block for the crash delays southbound on the BW Parkway are approaching I -97 headed south toward that crash scene. I -95 southbound you can expect to be off and on the breaks anywhere between the ICC and the Beltway ramps on the Interloop of the Beltway delays leaving Route 1 in Collins Park headed toward the BW Parkway. Outerloop slowdowns approaching at this point University Boulevard off and on toward Georgia Avenue travel with lanes are open. If you're traveling Route 50 across the Bay Bridge three lanes are east and two lanes west. Keep in mind festivals are taking place so in Glen Echo MacArthur Boulevard closed between Claire Barton Parkway and the Glen Echo turn around as a result of the Washington Folk Festival. At this point if you're traveling in Virginia on 110 it still may be closed between Route 1 and I -66 for the Armed Forces Cycling Classic and Challenge ride that's taking place hopefully that'll be wrapping up pretty soon. "If you're a Netflix customer, TV guides Matt Roush, join me earlier to talk about rock's Netflix special tonight. Netflix for the first time, they do a lot of comedy specials, but they never done a live streamed comedy special live, but Chris Rock is the headliner. He's got a show called selective outrage. It'll be on tonight live on Netflix. And we do expect him to address this among other provocative topics. The fact that Netflix going and sort of heavily into the live event space was kind of an interesting development for them. So I think you'll see them do more of this kind of thing in the future, but tonight it's live. There's a pre game show and there's a post shows there's an after show, so they're making it like a full night of comedy with people like Leslie Jones and Arsenio Hall and David Spade and David Dana Carvey all these people are going to be on one end or the other of the special, but it is Chris Rock's night. So we'll see what he has to say. Yeah, you're getting some for your money tonight on Netflix. For real. Next, along awaited sequel, which has Mel Brooks making history. Well, yeah, Mel Brooks, you don't see a lot of them, but you hear him throughout what they're calling history of the world part two, which is a sequel to his movie all the way back in 1981 and the joke was history of the world part one. There was probably never going to be a part two. But now there is, and he's the guiding spirit of this, contemporary comics Nick Kroll Ike baron holtz and Wanda Sykes are the stars, and they're the ones who are really doing the show. And that's all these running gags. So making fun of world history, the Russian Revolution, the Civil War, and in the best running sketch at the story of Jesus, which begins as a spoof of Larry David called Kirby curb your Judaism. That's pretty funny. So anyway, it's shameless. It's tasteless a lot of times. And the grin to grown ratio depends on the sketch, so sometimes it's funny, sometimes just lands, but anyway, it's four nights, starts Monday through Thursday on Hulu, and if you're a Mel Brooks fan, you're going to want to check it out. And this could be a new look at a legendary entertainer for a lot of younger folks, too. Well, for sure. His legacy is huge and most people know blazing saddles and young Frankenstein and his great movies, but he also had a lot of television. He was the early writer for Sid Caesar. He was also, of course, I had the guiding spirit of get smart. So he's been around forever. And it'll be fun for people

"It's one ten. How do shows end up on your TV screen? TV guides Matt Roush joined me earlier with one example of a big movie turning into a TV show. The intellectual property bug as they call it has struck again with CBS turning the movie true lies, which dates all the way back to 1994, the big James Cameron movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. Now it's going to be a series starting on Wednesday, and not with those big movie stars, though, taking over the roles are a guy called Steve howey and woman named jinger Gonzaga. They're both incredibly pretty people. But they're playing basically the same roles where he is a super spy who has kept his identity a secret for 17 years in his marriage to his wife. Once she finds out, she becomes part of the game and goes into training and they go on missions together. It's pure escapism. It's actually quite a bit of fun. In most of its regards, and they even recreate the part of the helicopter stunt that was so famous from the original film. So I think they blew the budget on the pilot that appears Wednesday, but really this is part of a trend. You see a lot of shows that seem familiar because if it's a movie title or something that was successful once, they're just going to keep a milk in the franchise as best they can. So that's happening with shows like Dexter and billions on showtime. Those shows are either over or nearing the end, but they're going to be spinning them off with new iterations, stars exploring a prequel to its hit outlander. There's multiple walking deads on the way, even though Walking Dead itself is over. So this is the way TV spins out. Anything that is recognizable. That's what they develop nowadays. Leaving not a lot of room for originality, but nevertheless, sometimes they work out better than others. Yeah, and that's even the traditional network here with CBS and not just streaming. Well, yeah. Yes, sure. So you take a movie title, you train a TV show, or you take something that was successful once, and then you bring it back. I mean, we have reboots remakes, and all these things, anything that's familiar to an audience, that's one way to keep you trying to tune an end because there's so much clutter out there on television nowadays. This is the strategy they're doing. And for some of them, it's a survival strategy just by trying to milk a franchise until they just got nothing left. Right. Well, let's wrap things up with a milestone for NCIS. Very few shows make it this far, but on Monday they announced that it is a 4450th episode, only a very few shows like The Simpsons, which is above 700 and that Law & Order series and gunsmoke. Very few have made it to four 50. But if your NCIS fan, this is not the end of the road because they've already knitted for a 21st season for next year. So the number count just keeps on going. It's TV guides Matt rauch, coming up on WTO P in sports, we'll take you to the caps game. One 13. Save big during

"Looking for something to start binge watching joining me now. For all the latest on what shows to check out. I have TV guide magazine senior critic Matt Roush, Matt Thanks for jumping in with me for a few minutes. Obviously, everything was disrupted last year because of the pandemic. So where do things stand right now, with new shows and returning shows? Well, it it sort of is a bit of a mess, but shows have continued to produce. They've had to shut down from time to time, but they're all shooting under covert protocols, and it's taking longer for some shows to get back on the air. Some shows haven't even gotten back on the air yet. Um people are still waiting for shows like New Amsterdam on NBC, which is a popular hospital drama that will be back till March. A lot of the like another hospital drama. Grey's Anatomy is on the current hiatus because they had to do a pause. And so there's game shows airing on ABC on Thursday, But again in March, they'll be back with new episodes of Grey's Anatomy and the other Thursday night, ABC shows, Um and others have delayed their premieres until quite late in 2020. So there were only a few episodes that were there before the holiday hiatus. And so you will see as many episodes Of most of those favorite shows on network television, in particular, the ones that normally do like 20 or 22 episodes. There will be shorter seasons. Aziz a struggle through this, but they've tried to keep the lights on as best they could. You have seen a lot more like game shows and other filler shows from Canada have been imported. Um, Tolo, the networks that you would normally have North not ordinarily have seen on Prime time s O. They have tried To maintain sort of an illusion that businesses usual, but certainly it isn't but at least the TV is back in most regards and streaming never really stopped, although I think the last month or so I haven't really seen too much like popping on Netflix ever since Richardson became a big thing around Christmas, but they really haven't had much You know, they keep putting new product that but nothing That's really like that a real pal in that regard, But the truth is, though it took a lot longer for some of the shows to make it to air. Things haven't happened that we would have expected to have happened and the new streamers in particular, like HBO, Max and Disney and a and a few others. I don't think I'm Peacock didn't really have the launch that they wanted to have, because they weren't able to produce all the shows that they were hoping to have this big push. But there has been the steady stream of television it never really ever stopped and more people are watching the never because people don't go out the way they used to, and Another really interesting twist, of course, also is like HBO Max for this entire year. Premiering big feature films, starting with Wonder Woman at Christmas. But just just this last week, they put Judas in the Black Messiah really great, a drama about the Black Panthers in the sixties. That's a feature film that's already gotten Golden Globe nominations. It's going to get an Oscar nomination, and it premiered the same time that it would be on the big screen wherever there are big screens. I mean, ah lot of places they still have movie theaters operating, so these movies are premiering on HBO, Max at the same time, they're premiering on theaters, and that's changing the whole equation of what the movie What's telling. Vision, all that kind of a thing. So it's a really interesting time. I'm joined by TV Guide magazine senior critic Matt Roush. One thing I've been doing while a lot of shows have been on hiatus, I've been watching some of the more critically acclaimed international shows like Foul odor on Netflix and Israeli show or go Maura on HBO, Max and Italian show and and they dub in English into these shows. Now it's not, You know the most ideal setup because how their mouths Are moving isn't what you're hearing, but it's a way to watch these shows for a lot of people. If they're not into the whole subtitles thing and I gotta tell you I have enjoyed the shows They are just tremendous. Yeah, I mean, fell in many ways was like a better version of homeland. You know who might have had a great season fun show time, but it really went off the rails at times have felt is really tight, really and groom or is like a terrific mob drama from Italy. You could watch the original show. Subtitles If you if dubbing throws you off, it throws me off, so I tend to watch the originals. But these are both like you said. Those are terrific discoveries and yell people who either discovering shows from international places or they're also going back and discovering shows that they should have watched long time ago. I mean, I still here, of course, people who discover shows that have been around forever, But once Netflix gets him all of a sudden, it's a new show to them. That's how shit's Creek became such a big Sensation and its final year and made any history on the show. Nobody even knew about what was airing on cable on pop TV. But once I got on Netflix, it became a big, big hit. So what are some of the things that are either on right now or are coming up that have caught your attention that you've either watched in advance or looking forward to watching? Well, just this week. It's interesting that quite a few major stars are getting new comedy series and one is on Netflix. Starting today. It's um, the first season of the crew. The crew brings Kevin James back to TV and Here's a guy he was a major star for. CBS had two big hit sitcoms, especially the King of Queens. But here he's playing the chief of a NASCAR crew, the NASCAR Racing team crew. And so it's It's set in the world of NASCAR very well timed coming right after the Daytona 500. And also Kevin James, just really at home here in this setting of being a guy who's got like these wacky people working on a NASCAR team. But when the team's owner steps down and has his daughter take over the team, it creates this conflict within their world. But it's the traditional sitcom like you would normally see on CBS. But it's on Netflix. Which, of course, does some great sophisticated comedies like Dead to Me, But they can also do this. I mean, they're trying to be all things to all people, but to get a talent like Kevin James to come to Netflix again, it just Changes the equation One night later on Tuesday, you're going to see two big stars get NBC sitcoms including Dwayne Johnson, the rock He's got a show called Young Rock, where he looks back almost like in a Wonder years thing, where he's looking back a turning point in his life, and there's 33 young actors who play him at ages. 10, 15 and 18. Um, well, you get a sense he was raised in this world of pro wrestling is that it was a pro wrestler. The stuff of these 10 years old. I really like I'm not some of the other stuff I wasn't crazy about the framework is that he's running for president in the future, like in the 20 thirties or something, and he's telling his life story. The framework I'm not crazy about the part of the young rock is pretty good. I just wish it were funnier. But then also Keenan Thompson Has a show called Keenan not not the best name. But then Keenan Thompson.

"Some Maryland lawmakers hoped to rename Maryland to 10 Indian Head highway in Prince George's and Charles counties to President Barack Obama Highway. Charles County State Senator Arthur Ellis is one of the lead sponsors of the bill. Along with Prince George's State Senator Obi Patterson. Ellis says they want to honor the nation's first African American president. Maryland Matters. Notes. There's some apprehension about the stowing that honor on a highway that's so well known for illegal street racing, fatal accidents and epic commutes. Proponents of the idea say the highway needs a rebranding. The Prince George's County Council is expected to discuss the idea at its meeting on Tuesday. If you're looking for some laughs and something new one TV, we have a solution for you. TV guides. Matt Roush joins us to talk about some big stars in new sitcoms. Good morning, man. Hey, Good morning. So who do you have? Well. The first big name is Dwayne Johnson, who has become quite the movie star since becoming sort of dropping the name the Rock. But here he sort of embracing again. He's got a new NBC sitcom called Young Rock, where he's sort of the narrator of the piece. You see him in every episode. But he sets up stories about his coming of age and apparently had such an eventful childhood that he has three young actors playing him in different timelines. One of 10 years old when he's living in Hawaii with his wrestler, father and all those other wrestlers and then 15 when he's moved to Pennsylvania, and he's almost drifting into delinquency, and then it 18 when he's in Miami University of Miami as a college football draftees, So you see all these different life lessons that he tells the framework is that he's running for president the year 2032. Then he's telling us all these little life lessons and stories not terribly funny, but it's a sweet show. And if you like the rock, you're probably like this, but To me. The bigger deal is that Keenan Thompson is coming to prime time after all these many years on Saturday night Live. He's the longest running cast member on that show, and he's got a show called Keenan where he's playing a Widow, Dad, He's got two adorable daughters. He hosts a morning show in Atlanta, and he's processing his grief. But he's got a big family around him, including in a big surprise. Don Johnson playing his father in law, who is really funny, really laid back and Sonny here a nice surprise there. But Keenan, you know, he just got a great personality. That's a good fit for him. Yeah, he does so well in SNL. I'm really rooting for him to do well on this show as well. Yeah, Me, too. Yeah, And who else? Well, we also have Kevin James, who's a big who's had a couple of big hit shows on CBS. And he's got to show that set in the world of NASCAR very well timed, coming right after today's scheduled running of the Daytona 500, the show is called the crew, and he's the chief of the crew of a struggling racing team that's in turmoil caused. The owner of the team just stepped down. He has his daughter running the team. It's a workplace comedy, really, but that Kevin James is right at home in the world of NASCAR. So if you like NASCAR, you like Kevin James, it's a really rich. It feels like a kind of show that could be on CBS. But Netflix is all things to all people. First season drops on Monday, Okay, and finally briefly, Mad, something that's making you happy. And Disney plus So much the whole five seasons. Never before all five seasons available of the Muppet Show from the 19 seventies made Kermit Miss Piggy, a star. All the stars who were stars in the seventies, played backstage with the Muppet Show played with all those great characters. Whole thing drops on Disney Plus on Friday, and I will be reliving reliving my childhood all weekend long. You can count on that love that show too. Okay, Thank you, man. You bet TV guides Matt Roush. It's 11 14. I like that. That's really firm. I'm something.

I don't know who those people were on the show. I don't know what their background is. But they made a pretty convincing case of this was a man made virus and that was the original theory way back when this started that they were developing biological weapons in on the escape the land i love it was quite dead sinister but there are making the case that the distant look like a nature created vires. Look more like a man created but again I know we don't know. But i mean people are talking about this now. Yeah they talk about it since the beginning and we are worried about whether they'd been unscreened virus all you know on off december. Why why is there so much concentration of ammonia in the even in december of twenty nineteen as we were thinking about that for a while and A couple of things number number one one of the people will bring up and rightly so is that this virus normally the natural progression of the evolution of iris. Is that it. It becomes more transmittable but less deadly. And the reason why why up while your host However in this case that's rapids no finding a limited number of hosts already in this case i but a pandemic all over the world is not just not nice little area so we're getting a lot more genetic mutation and a lot more selection for different kinds of voters we normally would have so overall. I think it's still very unlikely this escape and think it's likely just a arisen from nature and that we will have to fight it as that even if it was was a A man made virus. There's not much difference. You know the your do unless you unless it was purposely developed and then had a had a a natural a natural way of killing it The also which knowing what we do make these things. Those needle can't produce again Experience than that kind of We we put in a some codes bet that that will kill the virus That creating these. These sites are extremely downs. Very hard to imagine that it would escape Though a lot of overlapping systems having failed simultaneously we would have known about that. I think so. I think it's highly unlikely But i i But there's some things about the virus that are weird. No and we don't know very much we're still finding out frankly and and So i got to keep an open mind if they find something that i there are some things that are weird about this virus. That would make that. There's some there's some evidence you could build up soya true said you know. There's there's a little bit different expected but I don't think it's overwhelming yet If these guys come back from the who it indicate that there's evidence this then. There's a lot more to talk about. But i so far. I haven't seen any evidence as convinced me and i've talked to people who are close to this. They're also not convinced about a possible escaped bias. A lot of things wrong with that theory did to cancun too much violence. "If you have plans today, make sure you have a nice crepe. Already. I'm in the parking lot of a grocery store in the area, and the car seemed to have accumulated some snow and ice. So far, the main roads as well as some secondary roads nearby are clear. But these conditions are expected to continue for a few more hours will be careful reporting from Prince George's County occasion, James W. T. OBY News Well, it is Super Bowl Sunday, and the events in Tampa are a big TV event for CBS San for viewers joining us to talk about in his TV guides. Matt Roush him at the network doesn't just Cover the game but really makes the whole day of it. Oh, it is. I mean, the pre show is like hours and hours and hours, and they're going to, you know, brand from, you know, it'll be a Nickelodeon aspect. There will be other aspect. You're going to see pro most for all kinds of things. And yes, So it really is a full day in full night event that you couldn't pick a better day to stay inside and watch the Super Bowl, hopefully in small in small, intimate gatherings, not super spreader parties, but nonetheless, it is a day of celebration. And then you know, then from CBS's point of View, unification and all eyeballs on one network for one night. You know you It went that the peak you'd get somewhere around 100 million viewers, and you just don't get that anywhere else on television any other night of the year, and they always put a special show at the end of the Super Bowl. Yeah, you know, famously years ago, the 18 launched after the Super Bowl, and since then it's always been what's the net? We're going to do what? Sure they're going to put out there. And so tonight if you were able to still function after all those ads and all those get all the game and all of this next you've had, um around 10 o'clock. You're going to see a new version of the equalizer, which is now equal opportunity because, after having been played by an older, white male and then Denzel Washington in the movies, Queen Latifah now takes on the role of the Guardian Angel for the underdog on ex CIA agent and she is a one woman demolition squad and it fits her really well. She's got the right attitude toward it. So Queen Latifah is the new equalizer and after this, it will be on Sundays going forward, but it's kind of the perfect CBS show and also action oriented Syria. You don't have to think too much about it, so it's like it's just the right kind of show to put on after the Super Bowl. Okay, a lot to look forward to today. Thanks very much, man. Most of us have gotten an interest to three inches. That's a common range so far. For this storm system on storm 24 radar right now kind of a little bit of a lull, so to speak over most of the area right now, But it's still light to moderate and it's still accumulating. Just not as heavily as it was earlier in the day, there is a stripe of some brief heavy snow right now in the middle of Frederick County, including the city stretching westward into the Panhandle of West Virginia, is also a burst to some heavy snow near Fredericksburg. Down to the parts of northern Spotsylvania County, going down the northern neck over the title Potomac, So looks like we'll see another inch or two on top of what we've already gotten so far today that would be through the mid afternoon hours getting as close to that 48 forecast range getting us into that range chapters will hold in the upper twenties to the lower thirties during the day today, and then as we head towards the late afternoon into the evening, that's kind of the middle of the two day event apart. What of course being today we'll start to see that wintry mix is some sleet, freezing rain. And some plain rain. Getting involved in that was seemed to knock down some of the accumulations, but it's not going to lessen. The impact is going to be icy, and it's gonna be slushy as we go into the overnight hours, his temperature's holding the upper twenties to the lower thirties for tomorrow Monday. That's what the new area of low pressure part to the storm forms off the mid Atlantic and heads up towards New England will get the colder air back in the mid levels that will change us back to all snow and moderate times but mostly north of D C, which is where most of the additional accumulations will be occurring during the day tomorrow. The Dow closed 12 points lower Realtors report on December sales of existing homes after the markets opened this morning, Jimmy back to you. All right. Thanks a 22 here in the program. Timeto talk about television. Yeah, please, To do that with as we always do with TV guides and critic Matt Roush, Follow me into a TV G m. Matt Roush and pick up TV guys. They ignored you, Matt. Hey, Jimmy. I've got a date with with Netflix tonight in Bridgeton, and I understand it's terrific, but you got some news about the future of this, huh? Well, yeah, It was a good week for them is it almost always is, But this is the week they officially announced they had hit the 200 Million subscriber mark. You know, around the world they are. Truly global brand, And there's something for everybody on Netflix, of course, and also a big news with them. Business wise is that they say that they're doing well enough now what subscribers that they don't have to keep borrowing to pay for this endless figure of programming that they're doing, which is very, very expensive and the deals they make, But they are also sitting on a mountain a colossal mountain of debt because they've just been borrowing to be able to produce a so much as they produced. But they say now they're not gonna have to do that anymore. On. But this again just shows just the supreme Asi of Netflix is everywhere. But the good news for fans is that their latest buzz hit, which was Bridger iton, which is sort of basically Jane Austen meets gossip Girl and it was. It's been a big hit since Christmas when it launched when it launched That it has been renewed for a second season is nobody doubted. But Netflix you know, you never know with them because sometimes another show go on two or three seasons. Then all of a sudden it's over the way that they they decide what successful what is still a big mystery to most of us, But you do know what a show pops when something like the Queen's gambit comes out or or Bridgeton, somehow or other they pop from the mix because I also sometimes wonder. Was anybody find anything on that flicks because they just keep pouring it out. And you know in movie studios wouldn't do what they do. They bury their product and new product and so, but the fact is that I guess that there's a limitless appetite for people whose now they're big teeth. When they talk about watching TV. They're really talking about watching Netflix. Yeah, We're really not worried about their debt. I mean, look with 200 million subscribers they could pay over a billion dollars off every single month. Well, that's you know, that's the thought, but I mean, they are spending so much money on programming and getting all this talent. So it zah new business. That's for sure. They're changed the way everybody else works. They are. Another of the biggest hits for them is the crown. Is that Showtime? Who is that? Know what? Yeah, I think with the crown of what I'm saying here is that that that Showtime looks like they have paid attention. The fact that the crown is such a big yet this is the new announcement this weekend showed that I'm gonna be looking forward to in the year to come Show time is doing sort of like a Washington D. C version of the Crim. They're gonna call it the first lady and it's the anthology. Siri is where the episodes will be built around. Um, some of the most famous first ladies of recent past history, and the casting is so far is pretty outrageous. Viola Davis, who's if you haven't seen more Rainey's black bottom on Netflix. Now that's something to watch The Violet Davis, one of our great actresses is gonna bring Michelle Obama and they just cast Michelle Pfeiffer to be playing Betty Ford. And in the first season, it will be dealing with Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and also Eleanor Roosevelt, who they haven't cast and that's gonna be the first season of the first lady. Um, you know, down the line. Like, you know, there's gonna be so many more so I think this could run for years if it's any good, but you think about how fascinated we are with the crown. But if they could do that kind of drama for the White House, but focusing from the first lady's perspective. I think that sounds like a hit. Ya know, Roosevelt. I mean, you could find the 6 ft four inch person to be able to play that role. I think that she's just got such character to or two. So, Yeah, this'd sounds like something I would watch. Yeah, right. You have a pick of the week. For us. My pick of the week comes Wednesday on the sci Fi channel. I haven't really looked at there for low for, you know, for a long time, but they have a show called Resident Alien Resident Alien is a sly fi comedy about extraterrestrial who crash lands on Earth. He is planning to destroy all of humanity. But he loses his equipment in this crash landing. He has to take over a human body. And then he becomes the town doctor in a small town in Colorado. He learned all the human waste by watching Law and order and Jerry or Back is his idea of the perfect human. I like that, too. But he's basically a bad guy, and he's like a wolf in sheep's clothing, And as he learns how to be a human, he wonders whether he should really destroy them or not. So it's It's more funny than it is everything else. But it was a really an original idea, and then it makes the end of resin alien. Yeah, OK, so it's resonated in next Wednesday premieres on SciFi Channel. Hey, thank God. It's TV guy. Check out today. Thanks. We're talking next week's, You know, you bet. 26 minutes. Here's getting into sports is man. What you gonna give me the 2021 summer games, reportedly on the verge of being.

Definitely. The biggest one in recent times is Disney Plus, which ended the year with something like 86 Million subscribers, which was way ahead of their projections, and a lot of it was built on. You know, the brand's within the brand so that you know the Disney classics.

Emmy Awards 2020: Stars prepare to dial in for virtual ceremony
"It is time for the Emmy Awards They'll be airing tonight on ABC. Earlier, I talked with TV guides Matt Roush about how Cove it will affect this year's ceremony. Like everything else is going to be so weird and remote as most things are. Nowadays, you can't gather a big crowd like that. There's no red carpet. The nominees will be home or somewhere like that. And so they sent cameras about 100 locations in multiple countries. And wherever the nominees are whoever is gonna win. They're goingto win at home or somewhere, and they're not all going to be in the Big theatre. They're probably going to be dressed in their jammies or something, or some people might be Glammed up, we'll find out, but it's just gonna be so strange. Hopefully, Jimmy Kimmel still find some humor in all of this, but it's going to be just a very different Emmy than you've ever seen
