"11 with so many eyes on TVs tomorrow for the Super Bowl. It is no wonder the networks in command, those high prices for those commercials. TV guides Matt rauch, talked about WTO sandy kozel about those ads and what else is in store for the big show tomorrow. When you get like a hundred plus million people watching, you want to give a night. Yeah, that's why people are paying up to $7 million for 30 seconds of advertising time. And these ads get their own marketing campaigns. They have their own publicity departments. You can't really escape a Super Bowl. The whole hoopla of it all. And this time, one of the trends I've noticed is that they're going heavy on sort of like pop culture spoofs. There's a really great ad involving Breaking Bad selling something called pop corners, but there's also homages to caddyshack, the movie grease, clueless. And that sort of thing. So if you were a pop culture fan, maybe that will bring you some pleasure. And I'm sure there will be talking animals and all the rest of that stuff. But also we're looking forward to the halftime show with Rihanna. That should be pretty spectacular. And it all becomes part of it's as much spectacle as it is a football game. It's so much bigger than that. And I guess a lot of people just tune in or non football fans just tune in for those commercials all by themselves. Well, they could, yes, indeed. But here's another thing that interests me as well is what the network chooses to put on after the game. Usually it's a big show that they're really trying to put some extra hype in. But this year, it's just one of many Gordon Ramsay cooking competitions. The season two premiere of something called next level chef. It's like a cooking competition after the Super Bowl. I don't know. I just don't get it. It seems like sort of a let down when usually it's a show that really has a lot of noise around it. But we'll see it'll be certainly the biggest number that that show has ever gotten. Okay, interesting. Now briefly, how about your pick of the week? Well, if you were a Star Trek, trekkie, whatever you call a nowadays, but I would say geek out on Star Trek Picard, then the final season begins on Thursday on paramount plus. Patrick Stewart back is the admiral John Jean Luc Picard. But he is surrounded by all the members of many of the members of Star Trek The Next Generation for a big adventure. TV guides Matt rauch joined our sandy cosell earlier with details. They go so far back into the history of Saturday Night Live by having the guys who were the costars of only murders in the building, which means Steve Martin and Martin Short, Steve Martin, who's been there when he was a wild and crazy guy with Dan Aykroyd, he hosted the show like 15 times. Martin Short was a former cast member and he's guest hosted three times, but now they're doing it together as a tag team and should be lots of fun. It kind of feels like an event to have those two major comedy legends coming back onto the stage. And maybe they'll reprise some of their great, greatest hits. I would love to see Ed grimley one more time if Martin Short, but put his hair up and all that kind of stuff. And it just pans up. So we'll see what happens. We'll see what tricks they have in store for us, but that kind of feels like a real event tonight on Saturday Night Live. It does. Now, Sunday, something that's we go from funny to really serious, white lotus, there's a lot of mystery and deaths that we can expect on this finale, right? Well, yeah, because the first episode just like the first season of the white lotus indicated that there were going to be in this case multiple bodies floating in the Mediterranean Sea in this case because the show is in Sicily this year. But yes, the buzz all season long is who's going to die on the white lotus, which of these characters, all these unhappy travelers, which ones are going to meet a very unhappy end. We'll find out in Sunday's episode. It's 80 minutes long. They've titled it a river dairy. So we'll see who we're saying a rivet Archie too, but the last episode was just the undercurrent of dread was so palpable about all these characters. Whatever situation they were in, it's not going to end well for probably anybody, but for some cases, for real. "Show, joining us to talk about it and more TV guides Matt rauch. Good morning, Matt. Good morning. So, yeah. Two big names tonight hosting the show. For real, they go so far back into the history of Saturday Night Live by having the guys who are the costars of only murders in the building, which means Steve Martin and Martin Short, Steve Martin, who's been there when he was a wild and crazy guy with Dan Aykroyd, he hosted the show like 15 times. All right, and finally, tell us how Disney is marking the 30th anniversary, can't believe it's been that long of Beauty and the Beast. Yeah, that doesn't make me feel at all. But nonetheless, he has Beauty and the Beast on Thursday night can be a big crime time event where they did this with The Little Mermaid a few years ago, but what's going to do? They're going to show the classic movie, but then intersperse it with live or in live in front of an audience performances. Live action, performances, toggles back and forth. They sort of restage Beauty and the Beast or you're going to get her HER playing bell Josh Groban without amazing voice of his as the beast in this. Martin shorts back on TV again, playing lumiere the candlestick. And so the idea here is that you're recreating Beauty and the Beast while you're also showing parts of the film that people have known for generations now. I can't believe it's been 30 years old, but that should be a fun event also, Thursday night on ABC. It does sound fun, okay, thank you very much, Matt. You bet. TV guides Matt Roush. Don't wait. "Temperatures on Monday will be in the mid to upper 40s and that's about it. Dry conditions with sunny skies on Monday. I'm storm team four meteorologist Samara Theodore. Well, we're starting to see a little bit of that cool down, 60 at fort belvoir 65 foggy bottom 65 in Silver Spring. Now 8 40 at WTO P. Yellowstone Yellowstone starts its 5th season Sunday Night, the show has revived the old western. It begins with Kevin Costner's character winning an election. TV guides Matt rauch spoke to our San Diego zell. He's now is the new season begins with back to back episodes on Sunday Night. He has become governor of Montana. Not a very happy politician. He doesn't really want to be in the state House, but he figures this would be the best way to save his ranch, which is what the whole show is about. And he says, I am not progress. I am the wall upon which progress crashes. He is not looking to invite investors from outside. He doesn't want the elites to be building casinos on his property. So he's going to use his power to basically do for himself, I suppose. That's what the whole show is about. And also about the family that fights within itself. The dutton family is about as dysfunctional as the ewings were back in the days when Dallas was a big hit show. And to me, this feels like this show has always felt like an R rated Dallas where they could swear like sailors and do all kinds of other kind of nonsense. But it's very adult. And I tell you what, his chief of staff is played by his daughter, and that is Kelly Reilly, who is one of the best Spitfires I've ever seen on TV. So her power moves are like astonishing. But you also have stuff back on the ranch too to remind you that it is a modern western, like you said. So Yellowstone kind of hits all those buttons and into the huge hit show for paramount network. It is. And I'm among those really looking forward to it. Awesome. Well, let's stick with Yellowstone's creator. Taylor Sheridan, he has another show premiering tomorrow with another very big star. Yeah, this guy can really attract talent. But now he's got Sylvester Stallone coming to TV in his first major TV role. He's playing the Tulsa king begins Sunday Night on paramount plus, so it's a streaming show, but he's a mobster who gets out of prison after 25 years. He's been a good soldier, but his only reward is to be sent to Tulsa in Oklahoma as he's a fish out of water trying to start a new criminal operation. He gets his hands dirty with a local pot dispensary. But here's this guy with like old school and he doesn't even have an iPhone. So he's a real fish out of water, but it is a fun role for him and really, so this flows quite good in this. It's played more humorously than dramatically. So I think that will also appeal to people, but Tulsa king begins on paramount plus on Sunday. Can we wrap up things with some seasonal offerings? Yeah, big deal. A lot of holiday movies out there now, but there are two big ones that are coming on Wednesday, Disney+ gets the Santa clauses, which is a sequel, a series sequel to the Tim Allen franchise about becoming Santa Claus. Now he's looking for a replacement. And on Thursday, HBO Max gives us a Christmas story Christmas. A follow up to the classic Christmas story movie that airs all over the place during Christmas time that Ralphie is now grown up, goes back to Indiana with his hometown, so it was nostalgic then its nostalgic now. "Show of the week is The Crown. It's new season begins streaming on Netflix on Wednesday. Joining us to talk about what this season will bring is TV guides Matt rauch. Good morning, Matt, this show just keeps getting more and more popular. Well, it does. And it certainly has got a lot more scrutiny in the wake of the actual queens passing away earlier this year. And there have been some pushback in the UK among people who thinks maybe it's disrespectful to keep telling this story or tell it now And it's moving into the final stretch really in this season and one more season to go. It would be because we're now into the point where this is stuff a lot of people still remember. We're in the 1990s. We're in the downward spiral of Charles and Diana's marriage. The sex tape, the phone sex with a Camila comes out in the newspapers. She gives that explosive BBC interview and all things kind of blow up all over the place and at the same time there are polls saying Queen Elizabeth has Queen Victoria syndrome. She's been in the job too long as she relevant. Is she out of touch? And there's a lot of metaphors to sort of make that kind of clear. So there has been some controversy around this season, but I think it is still done with the same sensitivity and empathy for these characters humanizing these very, very public figures. Yes, some of it is imagined, but that is what docudrama does. And I think that the Peter Morgan has done a really good job here. Again, we've got a new cast, so we have a meld of Staunton, the terrific character actress, now playing the queen and her twilight. Jonathan price is her Prince Philip. And Dominic West, who you'll know from the wire, is Charles. And a woman who I'm not that familiar with, Elizabeth de Becky, is uncanny in her impersonation of Diana. Just you can't believe it's almost not her in some regards. But she is a very pained person here. There's a lot of conflict. But if you like The Crown before, I think you're going to like it again. And this is such a unique thing about this series, the cast changes as it ages, there haven't been any misses yet really in these recasts. No, they're really haven't. And these are all really terrific actors and they were in the first two seasons and then again when Olivia Colman and Emma corrin and Josh O'Connor were playing all those parts and what we've also got Leslie manville, who's all over the place. She's got a current masterpiece mystery thing, and she's and she's playing Princess Margaret. And again, you just have one great British actor after another. I think sometimes the sour grapes are the ones who didn't get cast. Because it really is, it's amazing how they have kept the sort of credibility of these characters, even though they're played by completely different people every two years. But here we go. We're in the final stretch now. Okay, thank you, Matt. You bet. TV guides Matt rauch. Moments like watching my grandson's deal

"11. Fans of classic TV shows were no doubt sad to hear of the passing of leave it to beaver actor Tony Dow. TV guides Matt rauch joined WTO's sandy cosell to talk about the impact of Wally cleaver and the impact the show had. Generations, I think were weaned on, leave it to beaver over the many decades and syndication, it's still out there and the nostalgia channel me TV is going to celebrate him tomorrow afternoon, starting at noon for a 5 hour marathon of his most memorable episodes. Episode titles include things like Wally's job, Wally's weekend job, Wally's car while these new suit. I mean, you get the idea that the stakes were pretty low on leave it to beaver, but at the same time, that's what we loved about at the general humor, that idealized depiction of a sitcom family in the middle country, everything was just so benign. And as the older brother went, I mean, he was a really nice and sweet and earnest older brother. He kind of thought beaver was a creep sometimes, but yet those moments when they were together in their bedroom just talking about things where beaver could open up in a way he probably couldn't to his dad ward. There's something really sweet about that depiction and it has endured over the many decades. They revived it there for a while as you saw beaver and Wally as parents themselves. But what people really remember is they leave it to beaver series. And so yes, I think when his death was announced this week twice as it turned out, but when people come to grips with leave it to beaver and the legacy that it had, it's a pretty significant one for such a quiet little show. "Guides Matt rauch man what do you have for us Well I'm calling it the clash of the streaming Titans on Friday because on Friday is when that fix flicks after three years finally gives us a new season of Stranger Things The Supernatural young adult thriller that has that sort of Stephen King vibe to it but it has been delayed a long time because of COVID and other production delays and so we're finally going to get the first part of this season There will be a few more episodes that's going to drop right before July 4th and then there'll be one more season after that But that has been the anticipation for that has been huge The Disney+ is not lying down and on the same day on Friday they're going to launch the first couple of episodes of the new Star Wars based series built around Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ewan McGregor is going to be reprising that role from the feature film So Star Wars versus Stranger Things Of course if you're streaming you can watch them whenever but still having these two launch at the very same time It really does that's going to be pretty amazing And this is also a big week for finales Well it is season finales are all over the place this month but this week there are two in particular that are creating a lot of noise which includes the very series finale of this is us which just laid to rest their matriarch Rebecca last Tuesday some very emotional episodes have been airing recently And so we figured this final episode which will send the big three siblings off into the future will be against something you'll reach for the Kleenex for And there's no show quite like this is us So people are going to miss that But also on Thursday Ellen DeGeneres after 19 years in daytime is going to sign off of her daytime TV talk show and that is I think as bad as big a void it's going to leave is when Oprah left daytime television She was sort of the inheritor of that crown doing it very lightheartedly with a lot of entertainment and a lot of charity stuff and all that sort of business But Ellen DeGeneres really found her footing as a daytime TV show host bringing sort of a late night energy there And so yeah an end of several eras but one in prime time and one in daytime Yeah and laughing and crying left behind us Okay thank you very much Matt Oh you bet thanks TV guides mad rauch Coming.

"1111 A big change involving a popular TV show is creating buzz this weekend Joining us to talk about it is TV guides Matt rauch Matt this is about Dancing with the Stars and where it's going Yeah it's totally a ton of side of the times really that show that has been on ABC and for a long time was a real anchor for the network for 16 years There's 30 seasons that have passed on the show It's not quite what it used to be And maybe that's why this is happening but also what's going to happen in the fall is that instead of airing on Monday nights on ABC as it has been for many many years it's going to move to Disney+ the company's the Disney Company's streamer Disney being part of the ABC being part of Disney and all that So the thing though this is a very traditional show with a very traditional audience And that audience a lot of them still haven't really embraced streaming And so this is going to be one of those tectonic moments one of those inflection points where it's like wow you said if you don't stream you're going to miss out on this But there's a lot of elements at play here apparently that ABC is considering more simulcasts of Monday Night Football with ESPN When that moved away from ABC that opened up the whole for shows like bachelor and Dancing with the Stars on Monday But that used to be one of the biggest hits that ABC ever had But with the expanding Disney empire it moved to ESPN and Disney+ itself as planning and later this year to do a lower cost ad supported tier and this could be one of the tent poles with Dancing with the Stars drawing more people over there with the add option which is a very popular thing and streaming now Everybody but Netflix is really considering and even they're talking about it maybe putting it cheaper if you watch ads while you stream Anyway Dancing with the Stars is on the move and a lot of people are going to be unhappy about it I'm almost afraid to check out my mailbag right now For sure This announcement didn't say anything about the host did it No apparently they're going to keep with Tyra Banks but really affected dance for the stars when they fired Tom Bergeron and took let her take over the show You're really became a different show I find it kind of hard to watch right now myself But at the same time it's still a powerful title So we'll see how that goes but they did not talk about the host yet Okay and briefly meant some finales happening this weekend Yes big week for saying goodbye to shows Killing Eve on BBC America that twisty spy thriller it goes away for good Walking Dead has its second midseason finale And on Tuesday one of my favorite network comedies in years Abbott elementary which came on at midseason It signs off If you haven't watched eben elementary that's my biggest recommendation You can always stream it on Hulu but the final episode airs on Tuesday Okay thank you man You bet TV guides Matt rauch We have some sad news for Washington football fans Steve dresner is next with sports I'm Count Dracula Too many angry villagers made it difficult to stay in layer So I asked caps center to help a vampire out Then they say they could list it for 1% with their full service agents I thought That book could believe that I know because I also gave them my spooky life And people seem to respect my spooky life Even kept center anyways.

"Guides Matt rauch joined me earlier to talk about the draw for viewers in both events being covered by NBC I don't know if that's ever happened before but NBC wanted it this way when they realized that the Super Bowl was going to be pushed a little further into February and coincide with the Olympics They're doing both but on the big day NBC was all networks do spend the whole day doing the build up and the hype to the game all afternoon So what would normally air on NBC moves over to USA Network and all of it of course is streaming on peacock all the time The real energy here is to drive audiences to the streaming service which is everybody's sense of what the future of television is going to be But yeah free NBC Olympics have been a ratings disappointment so far With a few exceptions for the big moments but the Super Bowl I think will not disappoint if playoff games in the ratings for those exciting games for any education they'll have another big hit with a Super Bowl with two sort of unexpected teams including my sometimes sort of hometown favorite the Cincinnati Bengals being the underdog of the rams So that'll be interesting of course a lot of attention to the ads although in recent years they've leaked most of the ads already So I don't really know what the excitement is about that And then I think in the halftime show is going to have a real energy with all these rappers Dr. Dre Snoop Dogg Eminem Mary J. Blige Kendrick Lamar So that'll have a different feel to it as well Networks always seem to use the time slot right after the Olympics to push a new show will then happen this time Yes but it won't be an NBC show usually it's about trying to coordinate or launch a new show for the network what they're doing is they're going to be launching on the very same day as the Super Bowl a big series for peacock It is a dramatic version of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air called Bel Air treated like a drama comes from Will Smith that it's like okay I'm not sure we really wanted to see a dramatic version of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air but nonetheless it's much more serious story about a kid from west Philly who runs afoul of street types flies west on his mom say so to go live with his wealthy relatives the banks family They're all the same names but they take it so seriously You take the visiting prince was named Hamlet for crying out loud It is a very different tone than The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air but the guy playing the young will his name is jabari banks He is very appealing So maybe they will go The first three episodes are available on Sunday so I guess they're figuring If you want to take a break from the Super Bowl hype you can start watching Bel Air But nonetheless it's going to be promoted heavily All through the day and NBC wants that to be a hit but not for NBC But for peacock it's a whole different world I got to say TV guides man rauch won 43 Being heavy was so.
