"Don't get it twisted. That looks like a missile off the bat. Of Nick fortes, but it was a little flair over Matt Olson perfectly placed, especially the outfield playing deep right now. And what do you know? Somebody on nobody out. Marlins got action. I told you that before we went into commercial break. We're going to tie this sucker up in the 9th inning. Here's Brian Anderson all for three tonight, 7 hits in his last 58 at bats. Converse hits the target away, Janssen fires missed his spot, missed inside ball one. Marlon's been shut out. 13 times, only the tigers with 18, the royals of 15, the pirates of 14 have been blank more often this year. He's been held to one or no runs on 30 occasions this season. Chance the one O'Brien Anderson, big cut and a foul ball, third base side. Might be able to steal a base here. I know it's a little dangerous, but county Jensen takes quite a long time to release the ball of the plate. And Contreras doesn't throw particularly well 5 out of 34 this year. Opponents are 8 for ten stealing against Janssen. There's a soft toss over to first base

"The wall. I asked the guys in the bullpen today. They had a couple of wall scrapers last night. And they said, that one was just over the wall. Probably could have been caught. On one two, there's a ball deep to left. This one's way over the wall. Way over the bullpen up into the second deck and left Riley with his 35th of the season and it's one nothing braves. That was not a wall scraper. That one was not a wall scraper Glenn. I don't know if we had a crane out there if it would have been able to been caught, but that was a hanging breaking ball right over the middle of the dish. That was a curve ball Didn't freeze Riley. That's for sure. Riley homeward in the last two games against the Colorado Rockies here Wednesday and Thursday nights. He's Homer in the first two games of this series. So for the second time in his curry's now gone deep and four straight games. Did it in July of last season as Matt Olson takes strike one from Cabrera. Riley's had safely in 7 straight 11 for 24. And again, four homers in his last four games. Matching screw bests at last July. That's high in a ball to Olson one on one. That was 11 one 11.5 off the bat 439 feet and not a wall scraper. Marlon shifted against Olsen, former Oakland athletic swings and misses. Curveball down one and two. Marlon is going to be home to take on the New York mets next weekend and loan depot park. "Let's get right to it a ton to cover after the American League made it 9 straight wins. Over the national league, got Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night, three to two. A couple of home runs deciding that game. But the big news for the Red Sox and the Red Sox fans is, what is the deal with Rafael Devers? Alex speer of The Boston Globe and Boston dot com reporting that the Red Sox used to comp with Matt Olson when they were in initial negotiations before the 2022 season. In arbitration and they were discussing the possibility of long-term extension, the name Matt Olson comes up. Why is that? Because he had just signed an 8 year $165 million deal with the Atlanta Braves. Well, that brings up the question, Alex barth, of what is Rafael Devers really worth. And I thought it was interesting this week at Dodger Stadium on Monday before the game on Tuesday. He really did a good job of deflecting. But what did you think of the red one that news broke that the Red Sox used that comp? What was your initial reaction, Alex? Well, did he do a good job of handling it? I mean, he laughed. He said he laughed and he should have. That's what I'm saying. What did you think of the Red Sox bringing that up in the spring? It's brutal. That's absolutely brutal. As zombie and I've talked about it when I've come on this podcast before. I'm still scarred by John Lester. Why? Because Matt Olson's not as good of a player as Rafael Devers. Matt Olson is older than Rafael Devers. Wouldn't be giving up a year of team control. Like Rafael Devers would be. It's asinine in their whole thing about what we're worried Rafael Devers can't stick at third base. And we're comparing him to a first baseman like Matt Olson. Now's a real convenient time to start caring about defense, hi, I'm a real convenient time to start caring about defense, John. It's been two years. This team hasn't had a real first basement on the roster. Now all of a sudden, you know, they were the worst defensive team in baseball last year. They're pulling Kyle schwarber over first. They don't have a they don't have a full outfield this year. They certainly don't have a first baseman. Now all of a sudden it's well, we don't know if he can play third base long term. And that's a $100 million, a $150 million problem to us. Get the hell out of here with that. You don't get to suddenly start caring about defense right now when a potential franchise cornerstone player at 25 years old is going to walk out the door because you decided to lowball with who with Matt Olson, who most Red Sox fans probably had to Google before they realized that this was ridiculous as it is. And let me say this to the Red Sox fans tracks. And I know I'm going beyond what you asked, but I no, go ahead. Pick me off. That's why we have you on Fox fans directly.

"Much the same way that there is a gap between a couple $100 million and the billions of dollars that the guy writing to check has, right? So it's just a lot of different stuff that goes into it. Some guys are like, I want a ring and so I'm going to go to the place that pays me really well and is also hyper competitive. Some people, maybe you've always wanted to play for the Yankees, or maybe you don't want to play for the Yankees. There's a lot that goes into those choices and I think while we often get sort of the after the fact TikTok of what went into the decision to sign somewhere, right? Like that's one of my favorite beat writer stories is when they get the guy in the room and they're like, okay, walk us through how this came together. But we don't tend to get as full or even accounting of all of the other offers that they looked at and said, no, that's not enough or no that is a great amount, but I'd rather be here. So yeah. Yeah. And I think, you know, Zach says that if I were already a multimillionaire, I wouldn't need any more money. Well, I don't know how many multi millionaires actually feel that way once they are multimillionaires. It seems so sadly, perhaps like Cuban nature that no matter how much you have, you just kind of want more or at least you do if you're the sort of person who becomes a multi millionaire, maybe. And athletes are competitive, right? And maybe they're competitive in the salary realm as well, or at least their agents are. And so they see someone else who they think they're better than making this much money. Well, they don't want to make less than that guy, right? They want to get what they're worth, even if they don't actually need the money in order to buy something that they want. They still want to be paid appropriately. And especially if the money otherwise is just going to go to an even wealthier owner, right? And then I think also some of these other factors like loyalty to your teammates, loyalty to young fans, well, they're going to be young fans wherever you play, right? And so you'll make some sad here, but you'll make some happy there. Loyalty to your teammates, well, yes, but you know you'll have teammates wherever you go and you can't count on those teammates staying there, right? 'cause the teams may trade them away or they might leave via free agency. So you can't really predict these things. It's not like well if I stay here, then this team will definitely be a winner and we will keep this entire cord together. I mean, you never know. It's out of your hands, so you just kind of have to worry about yourself. And you can't necessarily plan on this team or that team being great for the long haul or you getting to stay together and play with your Friends, especially in this era where there's more turnover. And I think some of the hassles of moving, like, sure, moving sucks for anyone, but moving sucks a lot less when you're rich and you're moving from one mansion to another and someone is moving your stuff for you. You might like a certain city or a certain place more than another, but when you're in that tax bracket, you can live somewhere really nice no matter where you are in the world. And so I think some of the regional advantages or disadvantages are muted by the fact that you can just afford to make your immediate surroundings the way that you want them regardless of where you are geographically. Well, in a lot of players, you know, they have where they live during the season and then they have where they live in the off season. So that might not even be a permanent fixture of their life. And I think we always talk about the importance of free agency in part because it's like, you know, you should get to pick your employer. Like you should have some say about where you work and where you live. And I think that that's a big part of it. But teams have some influence on that process, right? And so if keeping players with their home team for the duration of their careers were like a core value of a franchise, they have a way to try to put their thumb on the scale. They can offer the best contract, right? It's not as if we were any number of reasons why Atlanta might prefer Matt Olson to Freddie Freeman. And we don't have to relitigate that whole situation, but it was clear that part of what happened in that instance was that the braves were ready to move on to someone else, right? Like they were ready to move on to a guy who was younger that front office was ready to have their guy at first base in a way that Freeman wasn't for them. And so I get why fans like the player who plays for one team their entire career, there is something really special about a guy being your guy and not having been someone else's, right? There's a bond in a relationship that can develop there that I think is really special, but the player isn't the only person building that relationship, the team is doing its part two and sometimes the team that had a guy during his team control years will say like, hey, we want you to stick around forever. We see a lot of extensions. We see a lot of we see a lot of guys test for agency and then still go back to their old team, like that definitely happens, but it's not as if they have no say at all. And then the other turnover related question was from Ted, who said your recent discussion of raster turnover and its effects on rooting interests in episode 1836 reminded me of an ad. I heard recently for a service called Jersey assurance, which attempts to.

Back here on the rich eisen show, 8 four four two O four rich being the number to dial here on the program. Are you ready? I've got a four downs for you right here. I'm ready. I'm just constantly hitting refresh because there's so much going on. Do you want to get do you want to tell us what's going on first before we get to four downs? Two, two crazy. James White back to the Patriots on a short deal. The falcons up their kicker. Coup, he's coming back. It seems like tyron Matthew news is coming very soon. Everyone's kind of waiting for that. And let's see. The braves signed Matt Olson to an 8 year extension. 8 years. And 8 years. What happened with Freddie Freeman, Chris? Why would you say why would you trade your top two prospects for an Oakland top ten? Okay. I look at that like Freddie didn't want to come back. Just wasn't happy with the deal. One of the 6 years wanted to get 7 years, he was 32 years old. So they're not going to give a 32 year old guy a 6 year contract. No smart GM would do that. So instead you trade for a guy 5 years younger, and you walk him up for the next 8 years. 8 you're dealing with. Earned 68 million. Great deal. Good for Matt Olson. He's sitting out there in Northern California for the Oakland. And a kid, George of guy, born and raised, braised fan growing up, so hometown kid comes home because the play for us on tattoo. And Freddie Freeman's gonna either come out here to Los Angeles. Or somewhere in the aliens. I mean, you talk about those at polar opposites. I mean, you're either living in Canada, you're living in New York or Boston or you're out here in Southern California where he's from. I mean, those are totally different lifestyles. Totally different lifestyle. It's probably not all up to him. I heard Kyle schwarber Mike become a blue Jay. Yeah. People can crank it out. I wanted him back in Boston. We're going to win all their games 15 to 12. Is that what it is? Guerrero now. Spring training games in two days, boys. They're gonna play games in two days. Guess we are. Okay. We're back. So it's interesting. Who's still out there on the free agent market, right? For baseball? Well, no, not for baseball for football. Isn't that amazing? We're at the same time here. Okay, here we go. Ready to hit four downs? Hit.

"Very much It's now 6 36 on Wall Street That's time for the Bloomberg sports update and here's John stat showing All right John no secret the Giants need to improve their offensive line They don't have a lot of salary cap space but I'm opening day of free agency They did add two offensive lineman Mark Lewinsky had been a starting guard with Indianapolis and center John Feliciano who was with buffalo another guard Lake and Tomlinson He's joining the jets coming from the forty-niners jets also got tight end CJ azuma from Cincinnati They reached on Braxton barrios who was an all pro last season as a kick returner tight end Evan engram leaving the Giants He was once their first round draft pick he's headed to Jacksonville Josh Donaldson joined the Yankees in Tampa the day after the big trade last year Donaldson while with the twins accused his now teammate Garrett Cole of using sticky stuff to help doctor the ball cold and stuck Donaldson out three times Whatever happened Obviously he felt like it was a better idea to probably strike me out but she did a few times So at the end of the day I'm happy to be on the same team And I have to strike out against him more Yankees have been in talks with Oakland about acquiring first baseman Matt Olson He's instead headed to Atlanta which means Freddie Freeman will likely not resign with the brave Nets way tonight in Orlando the unvaccinated Kyrie Irving couldn't play but did attend Sunday's home game also went into the nets locker room for doing that sitting in New York find the nets $50,000 Cameron Smith won The Rain delayed players championship golf in Florida by one shot John stash that one Bloomberg sports John All right John thanks a lot It is now 6 37 on Wall Street and that brings us to stocks and some of the names that are moving in the pre market this morning for that we're joined by Bloomberg radio and TV markets correspondent Gupta fresh offer 12 hour nap Fresh off my 12 hour nap folks I got so much sleep You're so refreshed So great Not to brag on a Tuesday but here we are You are seeing some futures higher when it comes to the NASDAQ 100 The S&P features kind of flat But underneath the hood only 16 stocks are actually higher in the pre market So that does tell you that there is looks like to be a little bit of pain here at the opening Let's talk about what is moving to the upside and that of course is going to be this airlines Delta coming out seeing one quarter or first quarter revenue excuse me about 78% recovered compared to 2019 levels That's a big deal because their previous view was 72 to 76% but that news is pulling up delta shares da L is your ticker up 1.1% in the pre market It's also pulling up the other airlines with it southwest for example LUV your ticker up 1% in the pre market UAL is for united up 7 tenths of 1% Even American Airlines catching a little bit of a bid here up four tenths of a percent AAL is your ticket there That's unusual on a day that's pretty risk off to see the airlines actually outperforming also keep in mind you are seeing some moves to the upside and the defense spaces a Lockheed Martin LMT is your ticker up four tenths of a person This looks like a continued bid from yesterday after Germany said it would purchase Lockheed Martin's F-35 warplanes as well as €15 fighters of course we know it is upgrading its military response creating a budget of a $110 billion to modernize its armed forces Of course on the back of Russia's invasion of Ukraine So you are seeing those defense names take a leg higher as well LMT like I said up four tenths of a percent But then there are some downside stories and we should stick to this Those downside stories for example are a lot of the oil companies Occidental zero XY is your worst performer this morning down 4.9% and with it some of those other oil names this really comes back on the idea of lower oil prices perhaps coming back on the idea of the China lockdown in Shenzhen This morning 97 24 is so under a $100 a barrel Ugly morning overnight in the Asian session Very ugly morning and once again it comes down to those COVID restrictions that they're putting in zero COVID policy It also comes down with some kind of concerns that perhaps China is the next country to be sanctioned just because of their ties to Russia and you're seeing that show up in those U.S. listed Chinese stocks The likes of Alibaba for example BAB as your tigger for the ADRs down 6 and a half percent in the pre market JD as well JD is also the ticker Also declining four and a half percent So keep an eye on those ADRs That's where you're seeing a lot of pain Yeah we were asking the question M live I should say was asking the questions My former employer Yeah And where are all the dip buyers Because they've jumped in since 2018 and so you know one of the questions to mold this morning as the NASDAQ futures turn green up 12 points right now Pretty Gupta from our markets team S&P futures right now two points lower and the NASDAQ the.

"At 31° in buoy 26 in fairfax we have 28 in the nation's capital At two 41 a specialized unit focused on domestic terrorism is being established by the Justice Department That's the word from the department's top national security official assistant attorney general Matthew Olsen He appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee today The threat posed by domestic terrorism is on the ride A number of FBI investigations over the past two years since March 2020 has more than doubled Olsen's testimony comes just days after the nation observed the one year anniversary of the violent insurrection at the capitol Meantime even though there was no violence at the capitol on the anniversary of the January 6th attack authorities remained very concerned Joining us now live to talk more about all of this is WTO national security correspondent JJ green So JJ do we have an idea of how it's early but how this domestic terrorism unit is supposed to work We don't have a lot of details like size and precise marching orders but according to assistant attorney general Matt Olson it's designed to enhance existing DoJ efforts to deal with domestic terrorism cases some of which can be complex and the threats that go along with it Their primary job is to make sure that these cases and these threats are handled in a manner that they consider proper and effectively well coordinated across the Department of Justice and across all of the U.S. attorney's offices across the country It's a significant development at DoJ in its operations and its evidence of just how much a problem domestic violent extremism is in the country right now Characterize for us how federal law enforcement officials are so concerned about domestic terrorism in the U.S. Very very serious It's very very serious problem right now In fact the FBI DHS and the national counter terrorism center just published in alert recently that talks about how to recognize indicators that a person has been mobilized or is being mobilized to engage in domestic terrorism We call it radicalization When we look at international terrorism but they're calling this essentially mobilization It's the same thing There is a significant concern about this They have said and we've been reporting about this all day today that just because January 6th is behind us nothing took place that day that doesn't mean people aren't planning because they are and what they don't know about which is what's happening behind the veil of encrypted social media is of great concern to them JJ is there anything that stands out that warrants all of us to pay closer attention to domestic extremism because it does feel like not if but when Yeah it's gotten very personal FBI assistant director for counter terrorism Jill Sanborn told the Senate Judiciary Committee today which is what Matt Olson was testifying before as well that they're seeing a trend in very personalized mobilization which is often what pushes somebody to go out and conduct whatever kind of domestic terrorism act they're going to do And this personalized encouragement is driving force that's very challenging for federal authorities Basically it's like somebody's whispering in the ear of a potential extremist and it's difficult for authorities to get to that person and do the same thing to say don't do it So this is a part of why this is so significant right now And we play a big role in that They want us to notice these things and to let them know about it All right JJ thanks You're welcome National security correspondent JJ green two.

"I don't think there's anything even really talk about here, but before we dive in, I'll obviously ask you how you feel as well. We can talk it out. We can add the debate. But Lance mccullers junior sounded like somebody who's gonna pitch in this series after Tuesday's game four. To be fair. But he was scratched with forearm tightness. He's the Astros best pitcher at this moment without him, the Red Sox road to the 2021 World Series could be through Shane bars, drew Rasmussen, Colin McHugh, Jose or kitty, Jose Garcia, framber Valdez, a Christian Javier Zach Greinke hybrid. What the fuck is that? It's insane. It's absolutely, and the way that Greinke's last month of the season unfolded. He was on the cover of all he came back and made two starts, then went back on the IO and then was only able to throw a bullpen ses because it was the end of the year. So he's probably not going to be able to fill him into the rotation. And if he does, I don't see him going like four inning seems like his max at this point. So the Red Sox if the colors is out, the updates don't sound bad. I think the coaching staff weighed in on it yesterday and think that he should be fine. But getting a forearm tightness to diagnosis right before the ALCS is supposed to begin on Friday is just classic bullshit Red Sox look. And this is why this team pisses me off because like we talked like I talked about on the last episode, hilarious. Absolutely fucking hilarious how the Yankees run into the race. Look, the Yankees should have got the job done against the rays last year. I'm not making any excuses. Blake snells on that good. But no, but they had Blake's now. They had Charlie Morton. They had Tyler glass now. I know they battered Tyler glass now. I know they they handle Blake Snell too at some point. But that was and then the race had a beast bullpen that year too. So if you have pictures that can actually give you length and then you have a bullpen behind it, that's worth something. That can at least be competitive. The Yankees when faced with competitive situations usually lie down. So the Yankees get that version of the raise. And then the Red Sox get this version of the raise, which, yeah, a 120 very good, but starting rookies in games one and two, and then a hybrid pitcher and game three and then Colin McHugh and other hybrid pitcher in game four, like give me a break. I'm never gonna forgive Brandon Lau, either. Like we can't over 18 but 9 strikeouts in the LDS and he beat the shit out of us with three home runs in like ten RBIs in the final fucking series of the season. This is what we're complaining about. The Red Sox are not as good as the raised, but the Red Sox didn't get the raise. They got Brandon low getting no hits in a four game series..

"I am not saying he's going to be the centerpiece of a deal right now, but why instead of Anthony volpe or Oswald peraza, why wouldn't you glom pitching prospects onto Luke Voight and tried to turn that into a trade? And again, this could be Clark Schmidt and peraza, I would keep one of Opie or peraza. That's sort of where I fall right now. I would do I would do peraza Voight and Luis heel for mattson. Yeah, I would do a number of things. I would go as far to say that you don't even need to include prospects if you didn't want to. Look, what if you, what if you packaged Luke voigt and glaber Torres? What if you packaged Luke voigt Joey Gallo in like a top ten maybe one top ten prospect? What if you did Luke Roy Aaron hicks in 8 half Aaron hicks his contract and gave them a center Fielder and then, you know, popped in popped in somebody else. It doesn't have to be a prospect heavy deal. I also don't think that's cheaping out on I don't think that's trying to screw the a's over at all. I think Aaron hicks may have some good years left. It's just not working out here and it's a liability for the Yankees at this point. I think they sour the relationship with Luke Voight. He can't be here anymore. They disrespected him. They traded for somebody else. They didn't get and then that other person went on the COVID IL, Luke .1 AL player of the week and then they benched him for essentially the rest of the season. Gallo Gallo seems like a guy that age would love to have versatile defensively, lefty power bat, played in the AL west. I'm can't believe we're drinking Joey Gallo. I laugh every time we talk about it. I mean, yeah, I mean, I laugh in a sad manner because this was a great, this on paper was a great move to help us in 2022 and how I just don't understand where he fits on this team. If you're not going to play him in center field. So I don't want him in left field. The Yankees shouldn't want him either. And they play tourists..
